Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talking.
All right, we're at Angels Stadium. A guy that was
part of the first regular season interleague Freeway Series is
the all time LA Dodger home run leader and that's
the one and only. Eric Carrow's closing out his regular
season broadcasting schedule. Thanks a lot for the time, and man,

(00:23):
we have had carros withdrawals.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'll tell you that I don't know about that, but
it's good to be back.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
I'm going to be around the ball club and excited
to see a win tonight.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
So as this is your final two games on TV,
do you just empty the tank as a broadcaster or
do you leave a little something just in case.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
I think I gotta leave a little something just in case.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
We still got a lot of baseball and you never know,
you know, people could go on the IL and I
have to come out of a retirement and everything. But no,
it's been an exciting season. Looking for more to come,
especially in this next month and a half, really in
this next week.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
One of your.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Kids, Kyle, made his major league debut this past week.
The Rockies actually put out the video of when he
called you and told you that he was going to
the big leagues. You show more emotion for a Taoscar
Hernandez home run in the fourth inning than you did
when he called you.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, but I don't think I've ever cried for a
Oscar Hernandez home run, So it was obviously it was
an emotional thing and exciting something that I'm glad that
I got to share that with him. My wife was
also around, Trish, so great family moment.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
We saw you Atrician the suite. They showed that too.
I feel like you squeezed the life out of her
when he got that hit.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Hey, but I do have to give a special shout
out to our former Dodger we go way back, Derek Hall,
who was president of the Diamondbacks and made all that possible.
But yeah, great to share with my family and specifically
obviously my wife.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Are you relieved the Dodger broadcasting schedule has laid out
the way it has because the Rockies are on the
scale next week and you're not broadcasting.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Ironically, typically the last few years.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
I do the Rockies because well, I'll tell you it's
you know, I did the Rockies earlier this year.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I have some friends up there.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
It's a great golf outing as well, and uh, but
this year I did not do both of my games
earlier in the year, so I'm gonna miss that trip
and I will be up there, but obviously I will
be enjoying it as a father.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Well.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Mike Levy, the Dodgers television producer, may mic you up
at some point. You may be put into duty.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Gonna have to find me first.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Eric Carrolls is our guest in front of first pitch
between the Dodgers and Angels, and it kind of feels
at this time last year, you and I had our
heated debate about where the Dodgers were and whether or
not they had what it takes. How do you feel
this time.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I should ask you the same thing.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
You know, it's funny that you say that, because last
night when I got home, I looked at you know,
it was August eighth, that the On August eight, the
Dodgers were two and a half games ahead. They had
just lost two of three from the Phillies. And I
remember at that time, you know, you were voting, not voting.
You were you had your horse tied to one team
and I had mine to the Dodgers, right uh, and

(03:12):
I still feel that way. I obviously this is not
you know, the Dodgers are not playing as efficiently as
we as fans would like.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
But I do believe that, you know, even regardless of
what happens this weekend or the following weekend, there is
still a ton of baseball left and nothing is going
to be decided one way or the other. You know,
even if if we knock off the Padres or the
Padres have some success against us.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Uh, still a long way to go.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
And look at it, I do believe that, you know,
the Dodgers are the best team and you know will
win the division.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Why do you believe they haven't been able to get traction?
They're four games under five hundred since the beginning of July.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
So I do think that we are in a lot
of different I don't want to say situations, but as
far as guys where they are and coming back. You know,
Glass now is starting to really you know, click in
and everything Max has been gone, He's starting to come back.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
You know, your guy snell Zilla, he is just starting
to click.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
So I don't think we've had everybody going all at once,
and so you know that hasn't allowed for us to
really get going.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Tao has really struggled, you know, and then we've.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Had some other issues where I think, though the best
is still yet to come, I can't believe it.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
We're going to go a whole season, you.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Know, where we don't have all the guys healthy at
some point, or where we don't get clicking on all cylinders.
And so I still even all that being said, you know,
we're still in first place.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
It feels like the Dodgers are treating it the way
that you're describing it because there's three night games here
in Anaheim and a day off on Thursday. Yet Will
Smith is not in the starting lineup tonight.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Well, and so again I don't think that it's anything
other than, look at, you're trying to keep guys fresh.
The season is not going to end after this weekend,
and it's not going to end after the weekend after that.
We have still got a ton of baseball to go.
We've got postseason to go. And if you're trying to
you know, if you're gonna live and die all with
one game now, you know, I don't know if that's

(05:10):
really the attitude I get it as a fan, Like,
look at I want to win every game. I want
to but again, this is something you're playing for the
end of October, beginning of November. You're not playing for
the end of August.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
How do you feel about the Dodger bullpen?

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Well, I mean, you know, it's I think it'll mesh
into shape and I think it'll get better. I think, guys,
right now, you know we've still got some guys that
are finding their way, some guys that you know, have
been hurt, some guys that are probably that are going
to go on the IL as well.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Is it is polished and as crisp as I would
like to see it. No, but can it be and
will it be?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
I think it will be, And I think a lot
of that also is going to have to do with
our starters coming back and them being able to go
longer than.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
What they've been able to do all year long.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Eric Harross is our guest. I got one more question
for you. All of our eyes started to light up
last night in the eighth inning when we saw Mooki
Bets in right field. Could you envision a scenario where
when the playoffs start, Mookie Bets is in right field.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
I couldn't envision this scenario, But that's not to say
that there isn't one, right, And I just I can't
believe that that would happen.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Not but I look at it.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I didn't think i'd see him last night, But again,
last night was a situation because they didn't want to
put rushing out in left field?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Right, So is that, you know, is that really the reason? Yeah?
I believe that that's really the reason until it's not.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Are you seeing signs of life from MOOKI at the plate?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
So I think he looks better, and I think what
we're looking at is, you know, we want to see
something that resembles last.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Year or Mooky at his peak.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Look, the reality is he's had a ton go on,
you know, both on and off the field this year,
and quite frankly, I'm not concerned about anything until it
happens in October, right, Like, yes, I would like to
see something from my own well being and fandom, but again,
like I still have confidence, and I still I would

(07:20):
ask anybody if who would they take if you had
to pick live or die? What team are you taking
to go to the postseason win the World Series?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I'm taking the Dodgers. Who are you taking.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
We're at a time.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
So good.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Thanks a lot for the time, Eric. Hey, we had
to squeeze every last bit out of you before you
call it a regular season.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I'm going to be a fan the rest of the way.
