Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, we're having a good time leading up to first
pitch tonight, game one of an exciting series between the
Dodgers and Padres. And I'm joined right now by a
man that has already said his legacy and is just
adding on to the resume, and that is the one
and only Freddie Freeman. Freddie, thanks a lot for the time,
and man, it is electric already on the streets of
la Oh.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, this is gonna be exciting. It's so exciting ten
days for us with this series going into the Colorado
s eating back to San Diego. So a lot of
excitement going on and hopefully we can play a little
bit better.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I know everybody's trying to do the tail of the
tape between the Dodgers and Padres, But does it come
down to the Dodgers taking care of yourselves?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah, I mean that's kind of the name of the game.
I think if any team, no matter what the situation,
if you're not playing good, if you're worried about the
other team on the other side of it, that's not
the way to go about it. If we have put
ourselves in positions to win, we just haven't really finished
the wins lately, so I know fans that want to
hear the cliches and all that, but sometimes you just
got to live by that cliche and just keep going
(00:59):
one day at time. Forget about what happened a couple
of days ago. We got a whole new day, a
whole new team, whole new pitching staff that we're gonna face.
You're facing you number number twenty twos on the mound.
We feel good about it, so, uh, you just gotta
take it one day at a time. We're putting ourselves
in good spots. We just haven't been finishing it, and
so hopefully we can start by finishing it today.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
You're gonna love this. If I have to be held
accountable for these things, I have to ask you these
questions too. Players meetings. I've fielded calls for three weeks
about who's gonna throw some pasta like Tommy Lasorda, Who's
gonna slam a door? I said, it's not going to
be Freddie Freeman. I can tell you that.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
It's probably not gonna be me. But it's not to
say that. There's meetings happening every single day in our clubhouse.
We have hitters meetings every single day. There's pitchers meetings
every single day. There's meetings going on all day long.
It's not like we're just sitting at our locker waiting
for the game to start. So in the hitters meetings,
we have been talking a lot because we know offensively
we haven't been very very good the last couple of
(01:56):
months since and pretty much almost every area we got
told because we had we had a meeting and that
showed us that we weren't doing very good since about
June end of June, so it's the PowerPoint. It was
pretty much there's a lot of red numbers and red
is not good. So we have been talking about how
we could get better. We've been so good in the
past of working pictures getting into their bullpens early and
(02:17):
knocking starters out after four to five innings, and a
lot of pictures of me get into the sixth seventh innings.
So it's talking about quality of about bats, making sure
we're aggressive with the guidance scoring position. So you know,
it's it's ebbs and flows of a season one sixty two.
It's long, it's it's sometimes, but now we're kind of
in the sprint at the last forty games, so we
have been told. We've been talking about how we've changed
(02:39):
how we talk in hitters meetings, just kind of emphasizing
on our approach. We every single person that's in the
starting line of talks in the hitters meeting and we
go over what we're going to do our approach that
night against that starter. And usually it was the hitting
coaches would start and kind of give their mindset and
then we talk. And now we have flipped it where
we say what we're gonna do and the hitting coachers
(03:01):
just kind of add on to like maybe what they
think they're going to do in a big spot, running
into scoring position pitches and how they go about it.
So we've been trying to switch up some things and
making sure that everyone's doing their homework and we're prepared
going into games. So I feel like, all right, bats
have been much better the last few games. You know,
I think I feel like pitch counts are getting high
(03:21):
around we're taking our walks. You know, it happens, and
I know it's kind of getting toward the end. We
were now we're in second, so we gotta step we
gotta we gotta turn this thing around pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Though, Is this a fair yogiism. It's getting late early.
That's fair.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I mean, if if if you start looking at I mean,
we all know we're a game back, like it's everywhere
you look, there's TV's on and like it, there's no
way around it. We understand that. But if we start
focusing on that, then you're kind of losing sight of
how we can go out there and win ball games.
We've got to focus on ourselves. We've got to make
like we've got to execute pitches. We gotta get the
(04:01):
hits and scorpas to keep doing what we're doing at bats,
putting pressure on on on the pitching staff. So our
starting pitching has been much better lately. Our offense is
starting to get it going. We got Blake back, we
got who's getting his things going, so we got guys
that are coming back. We got you know, TAM's gonna
throw a live But we can't wait for We've got
to get going now. So there has been a lot
(04:24):
of positive things. I mean, we could easily have won
three for the last four games. It's just kind of
that's how it goes sometimes. So if we keep putting
ourselves in ours in those spots, we will I firmly
believe we'll start closing these games out soon.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Hey, they call them Steady Freddy for a reason. That's
the mentality the Dodgers have to have. And it's players
weekend across Major League Baseball, and Freddie, I'm just curious.
You know, you're such a great dad father of three.
How do you balance players weekend with three kids?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, I have three bats. I have three bats. I
we're gonna use. Maximis has his name on bat, Charlie
has a name on bat, and Brandon has a name
on the bat. So I let Charlie decide which order
and how we're gonna do it. And we're gonna do
youngest and oldest. So tonight is Maximis, Tomorrow will be Brandon,
(05:14):
and Charlie's taking the day game down. So he has
said Brandon's gonna hit the home run, and I was like,
what about you? And Max? I'm gonna need some home
runs there too, And so we'll see what happens. But
if I do break a bat, hopefully that it goes
down a hero, I'm gonna go switch to my normal bats.
I'm not gonna use all three bats in the same game,
(05:35):
because I don't want to break them all as long
as I go down heroes. But I'm gonna just do
one if I break it, and then I'll go back to
the old one, and then tomorrow I'll use Brandon. Sunday
I'll use Charlie.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Here's an idea. Maybe for the backup bats of your
three boys, you could just write David on it.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Maybe next year.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Huh Hey, Freddie, thanks a lot for the time. You're
exactly what we needed. I know you're the guy that
keeps things steady and doesn't try to overemphasize things.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I hope, so you know, I think that's one good
thing about us playing every day. We got to focus
on what we can control, and that's our work, our attitude,
and our effort. And we'll do that tonight and hopefully
with twenty two on the mound, and we'll score some
runs for him and we'll get back on the winning ways.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
And maybe tomorrow we'll celebrated hobbyers in downtown Los Angeles.
Freddie Freeman will receive a gift card a Hobber's Finest
Foods of Mexico. Enjoy, Freddie, Thank you, David.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
I was waiting for that
