Speaker 1 (00:00):
And an exclusive interview with David Bassey or Dodger talker.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well, I had to grab this guy in Los Angeles
because in San Diego the popularity is off the charts.
Security follows him everywhere because people can't cut the cord
down there at Petco Park. But the Dodgers are very
happy to have Kirby Yates back. Kirby, thank you so
much for making time for the little people.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
I won't call you little but anytime.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
How did it feel to be back out there yesterday?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
That's good?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
You know, it's kind of good to get in that environment.
You know, there's nothing that can replicate a big league environment,
and yeah, it's good. You know, glad we won, and
glad it was kind of you know, a game where
it was you know, I had some room for air
and you know, even if I got into trouble that
you know, it didn't you know, the game wasn't exactly
on the line.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
I think that was kind of nice part about it.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
That's like managers speak, and I'm not sure if we
could always buy what they say, but in those type
of situations they do say. It's a good opportunity, even
for a veteran like yourself.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
I mean, you know, you haven't been out there for
a while. You don't know really what to expect. You
have an idea of what your stuff's doing, but until
you get into a game, until you can kind of
go out there and throw it against big league hitters,
I think, you know, you have confidence in your mind
of what your think it looks like and everything, and
then when you go out there, it kind of paints
(01:26):
a picture of what it actually looks like.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I guess, So what did the picture tell you? I
thought I did pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I like the command of the fastball, you know, I
thought the split was a lot better. I don't, you know,
I don't think it is quite back to what I
expect it to be usually. But I would say that
I threw, you know, some decent ones that got ground balls,
and I think that's kind of the main thing.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
It's like, what what does your bad ones look like?
You know? Or what do the not banger ones look like?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
So I think in that aspect of it, I think
we're in a really really good spot.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
We know that you were pitching not at one hundred
percent before you went on the iel. How much did
all that play into your money? Pitcher splitter, not being
the Kirbyates splitter.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, I mean it might have done something to it.
You know, I've always kind of said that to kind
of make it biting. To get into it, you got
to get into your hips, you got to get into
your back leg kind of get those hips to fire.
And you know, one thing that they kind of told
me what they saw is that the hips weren't firing
as well, So maybe.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
That was part of it.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
But you know, whatever it is, it's it's in the past.
We got to stick to what we got right now.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
And I feel good.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
This is probably as good as I've felt in a
few months. So I you know, I like where I'm at.
I think there's stuff to build off of and and
I think, you know, I think we're gonna be able
to contribute pretty heavily here coming down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Kirby Eight's is our guest. Kirby, it's got to be exciting.
I know you did not want to go on the
al but like you said, you're healthy now and there's
thirty one games to go in the regular season. You
and the Padres are tied for first place. It feels
like this is what you play for.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah, you want to chance to play in October. I
think you know, when you sign here you have probably
a really good chance to play it. But you know,
everything looks good on paper, and you always have to
go out there and play the games. And we have
to go and win, you know. I think everybody knows
that we're more incapable of doing it. We just got
to go out there and do it. So it's fun,
(03:26):
you know. I think anytime when September comes rolls around,
you're talking about playoff baseball. I think it's what especially
a guy my age, that's what we sign up for.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Do you feel like the bullpen, the Dodger bullpen maybe
is pitching with a chip on their shoulder. There's been
so much talked about about the Padres bullpen, how great
they are, and there's not been a lot said about
you guys in a positive way.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah. I don't think we really care to be a
completely just gave you bulletin board material.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
You know, I don't think we really care about what
people say about us, right, you know, to be truthful,
The only thing we really care about are these next
two months.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
You could have Bessie, are in the regular season. Going
the postseason suck and your season ends. So you can
have the worst r or whatever you want to call
it stats go on the postseason dominating you win. So
I mean, we have a chance to you know, we're
getting all our guys back.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
We're gonna keep getting some.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
We got another kind of arm come in here pretty
soon and koping and so you know, we know what
we have down there. We all know what we're capable of.
We haven't really had our collective group that you know,
it's been mixed pieces here and there and all the
you know, other guys have stepped up and done a
tremendous job. So when we're all back and we were
fully loaded, we really like what we got down there.
(04:41):
And I think we're as confident as any group down there.
But you know that's between us and we just go
out there and do our job and anybody can say
what they want to say about us. It doesn't really
matter until the season's over and whoever wins wins.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Kirby Eight's before I let you go? Can you believe
your bullpen made over here? Tanner Scott on television made
people believe that I am wearing a two pay.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Wait, you're not what is it super glue or like
Elmer's glue.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
I'll dare both of you this is nice lettuce. Give
it a tug, Kirby, go ahead, I don't care.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I'm scared, dude. I don't want to get on my fingers. Gosh,
let's just hope it's not a windy day for David.
Oh my gosh, good things you ever seen? Tommy boy?
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Hey, I could identify with fat guy in a little coat.
But this is all natural right here, baby, thanks to
my friends of Bosley.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
It looks real.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
There they go, the dynamic duo spreading lies about this
great lettuce.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
