Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talk.
All right, I'm joined right now by one of my
favorite Carosis. My other favorite is Kyle's brother, Jared. But
Kyle right now will have to do as local as
it gets. Mira Costa High School UCLA, A proud Bruin
and now doing his thing, reaching the dream here at
(00:23):
Dodgers Stadium. Kyle, thanks a lot for the time, appreciate.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
It, of course, happy to be here and sorry I
couldn't be Jared, but I do have my dad beat
out in your standings.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
No doubt, no doubt you do. Don't ever forget it. Hey,
I was. You know, it's a little bizarre interviewing you.
You're taller than me now. Twelve years ago you were
this little kid showing up at Camelback Ranch and here
you are living the dream. Have you had that pinch
me moment yet?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah? It definitely comes and goes.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I always say, when I'm actually doing baseball stuff, when
I'm taking grounders, when I'm playing in the game, and
when I'm taking swings, it feels normal.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
But all the stuff off the field, like showing.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Up and walking through these gates, coming to play here
instead of watching game all that stuff feels a little different,
But like I said, once I get going, it feels normal.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
You major major league debut in Arizona, you had your
family there, you got your first hit in RBI. Is
it the same feeling Coming to Dodger Stadium? Doesn't feel
like your major league debut all over again?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yes it does.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
And I was joking around even the Dodgers series in Colorado.
I was joking around with Freddy and he said, dude,
just wait till you come to LA and play.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
That's gonna feel even different. And it does. Yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
I know I was going through my routine very similarly
to how I did it during my debut, just kind
of staying busy, keeping my mind off things. But it
definitely was a was a fun and it was a
second debut in a way.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I was giving your dad a hard time because he
showed up when you started taking grounders, and I said,
come on, you can't be this helicopter dad.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
We had that discussion before I showed up, because I
know he's normally on the field for BP, talking to
like the visiting team, doing stuff. And I had that
conversation when I said dude, you can be down here,
but stay on the warning track. Do not come onto
the field. Don't come onto the bubble. And he couldn't
help himself. He was on our bubble. He was super involved,
and I mean I gave him. I gave him some
(02:20):
crap for it after, but it was it was all good.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
What was the drive into Dodger Stadium like? Because he
said he drove you here too, m M.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I mean it was like any other drive, him playing
a lot of really bad music and me kind of
just going along with it. But yeah, we had some chats.
He kind of makes it more of a big deal
than I do. You know, I'm showing up to play
a baseball game like I normally do. But he's like, dude,
it's pretty cool. He had his phone in my face
to begin the drive filming, like it was like it
was some special day, which it was a special day,
(02:50):
but like I said, in my mind, it's just them
showing up and I'm doing my job here.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
How much of your crew did you have at Dodger
Stadium last night?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It was more than I anticipated.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I know.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I left couple tickets for my close friends, but my
parents went kind of overboard. With it, and they they
had a lot of their close friends in attendance too,
and then they were all down on the field after
the game, so it was it was fun.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Kyle Caros is our guest in front of first pitch
at Dodgers Stadium. The guy on the mounta tonight is
the guy you hit your first major League home run against.
When you hit that ball at Corsfield, obviously it's course field,
but did you feel like it was.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Going I buried it pretty good, and I was joking
with emmittt after the game. We saw each other in
the tunnels, and I was just thankful we threw me
a change up because I was having trouble with his
slider that night and he hung me one. So we
had a good laugh. But he's a great he did
a great dude, great pitcher. I'm excited to battle with
him again tonight.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
How familiar are you with guys like Emmitt Shean or
Dalton Rushing playing against each other in the miners and
then the veterans that you knew being around the team.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
And I think my brother also is a big reason
I'm close to a lot of these guys. You know,
He's super close with them coming up through the minor league,
and they naturally follow along with what I'm doing. But
it was funny my first first day here, I went
down downtown Manhattan Beach to grab a coffee and I
ran into Kershaw, Sheehan and Robleski down there. That's your turf, Yeah, exactly,
(04:16):
they were in my stopping grass. But I think Kersh
is living down there, So that was a funny run in.
I said, see it at night, could luck blah blah blah,
But it was cool. I'm I got a good relationship
with most guys over there.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
So since you brought up Manhattan Beach, I mean Paisano's
and your Dad's anonymous for Kyle Carros and Jerry Carros.
When you guys are in that grind of the baseball season,
what place do you miss the most of.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Hitting shellback Tavern?
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I love that place too.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, no, that's a good sport trends ole. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
No, we'll be We'll be there here in a couple
of weeks during our off season. But no, there's a
ton of great spots. That's my home. It'll always be
my home. I love Manhattan Beach. Honestly, Probably the best
spot is just on the sand and in the wa
but shell back is a close second.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Are you a big surfer? You and Jared surf a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, we do.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
That's our off season activity. I don't know how his
injury is going to play a role in that. I
think he's gonna be on the on the beach while.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Me and my buddies are surfing. He'll just be watching.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
But yeah, that's a great, great activity, super fun to
paddle out with my brother sometimes and my close friends.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I guess that was the silver lining for Jared. Unfortunately
season's over because of elbows surgery, but for him to
be there for you in your major league debut, that
had to be special.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, that was cool.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I always say the universe has a weird way of
working things out, and yeah, for him to be there
on a special day for me and my family, you
know it is. It's a small bonus of him being her.
But obviously we want him back healthy and he's getting there.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Before I let you go, don't want to get too
emo on you, but when I was watching you take
your first at bat, I was thinking about Tommy Lesorda
and how proud he would be of you and your brother,
and what you guys are accomplishing. Does that enter your
mind at all at any point?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Absolutely, Tommy.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I mean he's been an integral piece in my life,
and yeah, I would. I would love to have him
here and witness this day because he's talked about this day.
I mean, he believed in me before I even believed
in myself, and he always said I'd be a big leaguer.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
So it would be real nice.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
To have him sitting in his seat right by the
dugout that he normally sits in.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
But I know he's watching from above.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
No doubt, blue Heaven on Earth right here at Dodgers Stadium.
By the way, before I let you go, you went
first to third on the Dodgers at Coursefield. I never
saw your dad do that. Your wheels are ten times
better than his ever work.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I got a better wheels, better glove, and I'm gonna
have a better bat.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Just give me it, give me a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
I love it. Kyle, thanks a lot for the time.
We're also proud of you and obviously rooting for the Dodgers,
but rooting for Kyle Carrows to have a big night.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Thanks a lot, Thank you very much.
