Speaker 7 (00:51):
Ah, Good morning, scam back with you here on this
Thursday morning, October ninth, as your world champion Los Angeles
Dodgers now find themselves in a fight with the Philadelphia Phillies,
who stave off elimination last night with an eight to
two win over the Dodgers, forcing a Game four this
(01:14):
afternoon right here on AMPI seventy LA Sports. First pitch
at three to eight, Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck. We'll
get you all started at two o'clock this afternoon. Tyler
Glass now in Christopher Sanchez the pitching matchup. Sanchez, the
starter in Game one, was really good for Philadelphia. Tyler
glassnow looked good out of the bullpen for the Dodgers
(01:34):
in Philadelphia. Now gets to start here in Game four
out at Dodgers Stadium. Limited tickets available. Dodgers dot com
slash Postseason Dodgers dot com slash Postseason is the numbers.
Dodgers last night had an opportunity early to strike in
the first, but stranded Mookie Bets in the first and
it kind of was the well, it was the symbol
of the night. The Dodgers just couldn't get the big
(01:56):
hit when they needed it. Offensively, Yoshi Yamamoto didn't have
his best stuff, but pitched okay to give up just
three runs and pass it off to the Dodgers' bullpen,
which well, Anthony Bonda did his job, Blake Trynon did
his job, but Clayton Kershaw got roughed up last night's saxony.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
And that's where I think we should get going here.
Speaker 7 (02:14):
This hour is with Clayton Kershaw and what happened in
that seventh and eighth inning. And I'm not going to
put all the blame on Clayton Kershaw. And for some
of you driving around thinking what in the world, why
not he's the one that gave up those runs last night.
I look at how it happened in the seventh inning
that he was out there, and how was he was
out there in the eighth inning again, and why he
(02:36):
shouldn't have been out there in the eighth inning. The
seventh inning was well, he got hit around a little bit,
he allowed the first two batters to reach. Then he
got some good fortune. Tay Oscar Hannan has been a
diving catch to steal a hit from Bryce Harper. Kyle
Schwarber then got caught in between pitches and a ball
in the dirt was picked off first base. Two batters later,
Brandon Marsh hit a ball one hundred and eight miles
(02:58):
an hour and line drive at tay Oscar Hernandez. Crisis averted.
Clayton Kershaw gets out of the seventh inning last night
without giving up a run and keeps it at three
to one. In my mind, there's no way Clayton Kershaw
should have gone back out there and pitched the eighth inning.
Not the way he was getting hit around in the seventh.
(03:20):
He averted disaster. He walked that tight rope in the
seventh and got help. But in the eighth inning, Steve Sex,
he should not have gone back out there. We find
out Tanner Scott wasn't available, so Dave Roberts needed Kershaw
to give him at least another inning at least, and
it was costly because JT. Real Muto hit a home run,
(03:42):
mass Kepler a walk and air and things just unraveled
there in the eighth five runs put up and what
was a three to one game still right there for
the Dodgers. Taking Kershaw's eighth inning really let the game
get away.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, and it is what it is.
Speaker 9 (03:58):
But look still, you only score two runs, and at
that point, you know, with with them having three, you're
still gonna lose. I know, things and the machinations of
the game that come and go are different when they're
tighter and when its score is close. But nonetheless, you know,
no Tanner Scott, you know personal reasons. I don't know
it's gonna come out. I'm sure, like Dave said, I
(04:19):
pray for his family that everything's okay.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
But you know, you need That's why you need everybody.
Speaker 9 (04:25):
We talked about that yesterday that you're gonna need, you know,
to have an extended bullpen. And those guys are all
down there for a reason. They're all extremely important.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
It's not like it was.
Speaker 9 (04:35):
Years ago where the middle relievers were just kind of
mopping it up. No, these guys have significant roles. Everybody
does on the on that staff. And you know, I
think what you just have to do is say, we
didn't score enough runs anyway, we lose eight to two.
It was three to two at best for us. So
we come back today. We washed this one out. We
come back today and we really put it on them.
(04:57):
You had a chance to see Christopher Sanchez very recently,
which is a good thing for the hitters. They know
how much depth that that change up has for him.
It's his best pitch, and I think they're going to
be all over it. I think this gives shoe Hey
Otani really a chance to come out, even though he's
a left hander, to say, hey, you know what I
got to look for for all his Arsenal, And the
(05:20):
way that you're going to hit that ospeed pitch is
to hit it the other way. So eliminate part of
that inner third and try to hit the ball right
back up through the middle. I think, you know, you
can still pull the ball, but I think that'll help him.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
The fun part about this is we get to react
after the game. We get to react the next day,
good or bad, to what happened on the field and
really break it down. And you know for Clayton Kershaw,
that was the only option for Dave Roberts last night
in the eighth inning or was it? It's a three
to one game. You have to make a decision, and
it's a tough one. Do we go to our high
(05:52):
leverage relievers in hopes that our offense is going to
get us a couple runs and get us back into
this game with nine outs still to go, you know,
because you're going or six outs. You know, you had
the bottom of the seventh in the eighth and night,
so you had nine outs to go. You're hoping your
offense is get going. So do you go to a
high leverage reliever in Bonda or excise me out Vesia
(06:12):
to pitch the eighth inning to keep it a three
to one game, or do you hope that Clayton Kershaw
can go out there and grind and battle and get
you three outs and hopefully you come out of there
still at a three to one game, because it's it's
within reach, right, three to one game is within reach,
and all of a sudden real Muto, it's home run.
It's a four to one game, and it might as
well felt like fourteen to one, and then they just
tack on four more runs after that. But that's a
(06:35):
tough decision for Dave Roberts. No Tanner Scott, it's a
three to one game. Maybe he doesn't want to go
back to Clayton Kershaw, But do you go to Vessie
and Burnham maybe if you can't use him now in
a game four, if your offense doesn't get any get going.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
It was a tough decision for him. Was a roll
the dice.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
I believe for Dave Roberts, and I'm not gonna put
the I'm not gonna put the blame on him. It's
just one of those things where you're open your Hall
of Fame Pitcher can go out there and somehow get
you three out and keep it a three to one game. Unfortunately,
it just didn't work out.
Speaker 9 (07:09):
Yeah, and if Clayton goes out there and he gets
the three outs, it's a great decision, right, I mean,
that's not beyond the realm of possibility, though.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
I mean, that's that's a really tough situation to put
him in, because you can see it coming off the field,
Steve and the seventh he realized, he he realized, he,
oh my gosh, I got out of here unscathed. WHOA,
I'm done now? Oh wait, you want me to pitch
the eighth again?
Speaker 9 (07:35):
Yeah, Well, you know what, you just got to go
out and get three outs some way. And if you
get some little help from your friends, great, But it's
not it's not certainly not impossible. But I understand where
you're coming from.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
And he did.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
He went out there. Clayton's been a warrior his whole career,
very selfless. He probably knows he wasn't dealing with his
best stuff. The slider wasn't going, you know, in the zone,
and he had, you know, like Dave said, he had
a tough time with his command and maybe he thought
he'd find it going out there the next inning and Uh,
it didn't work out, but still your offense only scores
(08:11):
two runs and you need more than that against this
Phillies team.
Speaker 7 (08:14):
Let's hear from Clayton Kershaw talking with the media post
game last night. Obviously not the kind of out and
he wanted to have at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 10 (08:22):
Oh it's just a tough Yeah, tough couples there.
Speaker 11 (08:24):
Kind of got bailed out there in the seventh good
play by Tayo and then.
Speaker 10 (08:29):
Yeah, I just didn't make enough good pitches. I was
battling command.
Speaker 11 (08:33):
You know, It's it's hard when you're trying to throw
strikes as opposed to get people out.
Speaker 10 (08:36):
So that was yeah, I just wasn't fine, of.
Speaker 8 (08:41):
Course, I do you feel going up for the eighth thing?
Speaker 10 (08:43):
I feel fine? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Fine.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
Did you feel like you like maybe they're gonna come
back hitch you in the eighth when and he would
just obviously didn't really.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
Have your best stuff.
Speaker 10 (08:53):
I don't really think about that. You just try and
make the next pitch.
Speaker 11 (08:56):
You know, that's not really it's not really for us
to do, you know, just try and you get people out,
and uh, yeah, I just yeah, I wasn't I wasn't
throwing strikes and it's hard to pitch behind the count.
Speaker 8 (09:07):
Course this is not just for you.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Would would the pomp of their mind have to struggling
in the first two games you worry about, you know, them.
Speaker 8 (09:13):
Having success tonight later getting some momentum going into the world.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Uh no, not really.
Speaker 11 (09:18):
I mean I think it's your momentum is only as
good as your next day started, right, So we got
Glasgow when we feel good about it and will be
ready to go tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (09:25):
So we got two one leads, so when he gets
fun So it's.
Speaker 8 (09:29):
Almost like you should have m needs you when you
get into a position like this.
Speaker 11 (09:33):
Oh yeah, I mean it's a great thing about baseballers,
a new game every day, you know, So game four tomorrow,
be ready to go.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
What is your level of disappointment after the mass?
Speaker 10 (09:44):
I don't know, that's kind of a not a great question, okay.
Speaker 12 (09:48):
And why do you think your command was.
Speaker 10 (09:50):
Off the trend?
Speaker 13 (09:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 11 (09:51):
I just, uh, you know, do everything I could in between.
You know, it's been a it's been a while, but
you know, through flat through on the ground as best
I could.
Speaker 10 (10:00):
I'm just uh, just wasn't there.
Speaker 8 (10:03):
Tonight anything was good coming out of the pen Didelod.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Yeah, yeah, okay, I said, really one of the great
mysteries about this great game.
Speaker 8 (10:13):
You just don't know, do you.
Speaker 7 (10:18):
All right, there's Clayton Kershaw some interesting questions. Uh to
Clayton there from the.
Speaker 9 (10:23):
Level of disappointment, Uh, it's uh, I don't know. It's
a what do you do it? You say it's a six,
A seven, eight. I mean, I mean, how do you
answer that question? It's as bad as it gets. We lost,
you know, of course it's bad. I don't know how
you answered that question. And I think I think he
answered it right. You know, Clayton said, it's not it's
not a very it's not a very good or appropriate question.
(10:46):
It's it's rather redundant. I mean, you know, of course,
Oh no, this one didn't hurt at all. Come on, really,
it's just a it's a bozo question.
Speaker 7 (10:55):
Clayton said the right things early on there that he
felt fine, and you know, he admitted he need to
get strikes and he couldn't find strikes and he was
falling behind in the count early on, and they were
teeing off on his pitches. And that's been sort of
the mL this year for Clayton Kershaw. When he's got
that slider and the osped stuff biting, so to speak,
it sets up that fastball that's only eighty nine to
(11:16):
ninety ninety one miles an hour. That isn't, you know,
piping fast anymore. But he can get guys out with it,
and he can get swinging misses because his offspeed pitches
are so well. But when it's not working, it's just
like you feel for curseh because it's one of those
things where he gets hit around if those off speed
pitches aren't working. And last night, unfortunately in the eighth
inning he got some benefit of some nice defense to
(11:37):
the seventh, but the eighth inning is certainly it unraveled
for him. And again, I it's one of those tough situations, Steve,
for Dave Roberts. Do you go all in with your
high leverage relievers down three to one in the eighth inning,
hoping your offense will get something going in those final innings,
or do you ride Kershaw and hopes that he'll get
you another zero out there and you can keep those
(11:59):
high level guys in the bullpen and kind of save
them for Game four today. And that's ultimately what he did.
Speaker 9 (12:05):
Yeah, I think Dave made the right call, and you know,
there's there's a lot more baseball to be played. But
wouldn't it be something? I mean, I think the Dodgers
got a great chance to close this thing out tonight.
I thought they did yesterday too, But it wouldn't be
something if they go to Philly take two, Philly comes
here and takes two, and then you got the last
(12:27):
game in Philadelphia. I mean, that would be the strangest outcome,
no matter what the outcome would be in the fifth game,
because both teams are strong at home and they give
it up in their in their home place, So that
that would be a really strange twist of fate.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
It definitely would be.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
And I hope, I hope there's no Game five and
they have to go back to Philadelphia. Eight six six
ninety seven two five seventy. Let's go out to bowman JJ,
thanks for being patient. You're on with Saxon Kate's and
the am here on a five seventy. How you doing, JJ?
Speaker 14 (13:00):
Great?
Speaker 10 (13:00):
Guysbuch So doing okay?
Speaker 7 (13:02):
What's your sense of panic? What's your sense of feeling
right now? After the Dodgers last night? Let Game three
get away, and now they have got to win a
game four.
Speaker 14 (13:10):
Well, I like you said, don't put on Curshaw.
Speaker 10 (13:13):
They didn't get to hit you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
That didn't happen. So I feel good about tonight and
go Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Man, We're gonna do it tonight.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Don't worry about it, all.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Right, JJ.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Appreciate the phone call eight six six ninety seven seventy Eddie,
and put coma next up here with Sax and Kate's
and the AM on this Thursday morning.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
How you doing, Eddie, Hey.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
Tam, good morning. Uh yeah, Tim and Steve. I think,
and this is just my personal opinion, but I think
we should have brought in Trying in that situation. I
know Clayton Kershaw and all the lore and everything, but
I think in that situation we bring in Trying them
just three to one. I just felt we we brought
in Kershaw and left him in after the JT home run.
(13:53):
I just feel like Dave play at the game. But
you know that's just the fast opinion. Thanks so much.
You guys did a great job.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
I appreciate that, Eddie. They did end up going to
Blake Trying for the ninth inning. He had a clean
inning through ten pitches, got out of it unscathed. Maybe
you go to Blake Trying there in the eighth inning,
looking it up, who was up? It was real, Muto, Kepler,
costianos In Stodd. So you're looking at six seven, eight
nine in the order. You know, I wouldn't have been
(14:20):
mad if he went to Blake Tryning there in the
eighth inning. And then if the Dodgers' offense somehow can
get back into the game, tie it up, make it
a you know, take the lead or whatever, then you
have your high leverage guys for the ninth inning. Sosaki,
you still have got Vessie ready to go, and you
still got I machine if the game goes into extra inning.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
So I'm not mad that decision.
Speaker 7 (14:40):
If you would have gone to Trying in the eighth inning,
certainly you know, twenty four hours ago Dodger fans didn't
want to go to Blake Tryning ever.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Again, Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
That was my next question to you. What happens if
Trying goes out and you know, lets it down, then
you were we're going to hear that, oh, this guy's
should have never gone with him? Would look what he's
done before. But as we sit right now, the Dodgers'
bullpen looks good to me. With Sasaki and Shun able
to go multiple innings if need be. You got Banda
(15:09):
trying to dryer in Vessia. Although they you know, dryer
and trying to pit, end, bend and pitch yesterday. They
should be able to go at least an out, yeah,
or maybe an inning. So you got you got a
bullpen that's well suited to go down and knock it
down today.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
No doubt about an eighty sixty sixth nine eighty seven
two five seventy. Again, it's an early pitch, three to
zero eight, first pitch from Dodgers Stadium. Well I Wrongo Casino,
Dodgers on Decade. It all started at two o'clock this afternoon.
We keep things going, Joe and you, Kaypa, thanks for
being patient. Welcome to Saxon Kate's in the am on
this Thursday morning. How are you feeling after Game three
last night?
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Joe?
Speaker 4 (15:46):
They no, I'm feeling good.
Speaker 12 (15:48):
I think it's gonna light a fire under this offense.
Speaker 14 (15:51):
Mooki's hitting good, and.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Otani's a smart hitter. He's gonna turn it around. And
so is Freeman. So I think we're good. The only
person I blame is my six month old babies.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
He threw up on his ones.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
He's been wearing that ones he threw out the playoffs
and we've been undefeated.
Speaker 14 (16:07):
So I don't know.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Man, all right, we can blow We can blame the
blame the six month old for us throwing up.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Did Joe wash? Did they wash the onesie? I'm just curious.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
It sounded like they did, and that's why they lost because.
Speaker 9 (16:19):
They yeah, maybe you keep the you know, keep it
like it is, Yeah, and you know players do that.
They would they wear the same undershirt and not watch
it if they have a great day, and and they'll
just wear it for a month.
Speaker 7 (16:30):
I mean, if you're a diehard Dodger fan, I mean,
you're doing everything you can to help this out, right,
So you's got to suffer through a little stinky onesie.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Right.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
The kid's not gonna know when he's grown up. I mean,
you know, what the.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Hell I I I shouldn't say this, but I'm gonna
say it. There there was a uh, a Dodger and me.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
There was a Dodger fan last night at the stadium
and I'm not going to say, all right, come on,
you got say Tim and Pasadena your next up here
on saxon k today.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
And how you doing, Tim?
Speaker 13 (17:01):
Hey, We're doing great, man.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
How you guys doing.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
I'm doing fantastic. What's your sense of panic? What's your
sense of feeling after Game three last night and now
a game four got away?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Worry about it, Mandy, there's a crack in the liberty bell.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
You got hate Ben Franklin.
Speaker 14 (17:16):
You know that was great, dude.
Speaker 15 (17:17):
I paid attention to elementary school.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
But don't worry, dude.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
We're gonna be fun.
Speaker 16 (17:21):
Love Billy Roger Kowski, the Eagles and all that, and got.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
The history rocks about both four eggs.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
In the morning.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
We love Rocky, but the Dodgers are gonna do it.
Speaker 15 (17:32):
Yeah, mate, me go blue?
Speaker 3 (17:34):
All right, Tim, appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
I love us optimism at seven twenty in the morning
after Dodgers let Game three get away.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I wish I had that optimism.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I wish I.
Speaker 9 (17:43):
Wish, I wish you had the temerity to go ahead
and say what you were gonna say. I hear You're
ducking now, Tim, You're ducking me and your audience.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Okay, I listen there was.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
There was somebody in the stadium last night, a member
of the crowd, okay me, had a little incense going
right to the good vibes at Dodger Stadium. And I
was like, what in the world is that? And it
was it was some incense and it was a certain
smell of incense. And I was like, what what are
we doing. It's like, it's we're burning the stage just
(18:16):
a little bit, just a little bit to get it going,
a little bit of smoke, a little bit of good
vibes inside.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Just yeah, And I was, I just I couldn't believe it.
I was seen.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
I was like, I've never seen this before at Dodger Stadium.
And it was just for a second, just to get
the good vibe. Nothing malicious about it, but it was just.
Speaker 9 (18:31):
Tim Do you really think that all the people that
come to Dodger Stadium that somebody isn't gonna once in
a while strike up a fatty.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
It wasn't this kind It wasn't. No, no, it wasn't.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
It wasn't what I kind of thought you were getting
it was. They weren't smoking weed. It was it was literally, uh,
I thought incense. That was a certain smell and I
literally said, what what is this? And they said it
was a smell. I don't remember the name of it.
I wish iould I should have wrote it down, but
it was just certain name and it was for good vibes.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Okay, Polo Santo, that's what it was. Thank you, Michelle Polosanto.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I'm gonna I'm gonna get some of that and put
it in my office. Maybe it'll maybe it will be
good for me.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
It didn't work.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
It didn't work. That's the that's is that the catch
right there where you want to say it.
Speaker 7 (19:15):
I mean, I was all excited about this, and I
was like, cool that I do. It's mostly for the
mostly for the bullpen. It's the good vibes for the bullpen,
all right. It was just for a second to get
the good vibe. Okay, cool, appreciate it. Hey, all hands
on deck, let's go anything we need, let's get to
let's get a win tonight, even if it's burning a
little polasanto.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
But it didn't work.
Speaker 9 (19:33):
But but let's say somebody burned it tonight. Would you
would you haven't burn it in the playoffs like against
say it's the Brewers, would you would you burn it.
Speaker 7 (19:42):
Then if it works and the Dodgers win that I'm
all for it, whatever it takes, including not washing your
six month olds onesie.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
If they threw up on it, that's a good idea.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
You gotta keep it dirty, Nick and Irvine, and thanks
for being patient. Welcome to Saxon Kates and they. How
you doing Nick?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Hey, guys, Saxy, did you ever believe because you and
I had two of the best seats in the house
for Gibbey's walk off, and you were in my line
of view. And there are two things about that. Number One,
I could not believe it happened in the way it happened.
And number two, never in a million years, one million
(20:19):
years would I think it could happen again. And then
it did to the minute, and.
Speaker 8 (20:24):
You witness that.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Can you what are your thoughts on the Gibbe home
run versus the.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
Freddy Freddie home run?
Speaker 4 (20:35):
And then I have I have just a short prayer.
I wanted that I wrote from my heart that I
want to I want to read for the Dodger faithful.
Speaker 9 (20:44):
Wow, Okay, so I'll get I'll get out of my
part quick. So because I want to hear your prayer.
I think that's really cool that you're doing that. First
of all, but I think they were very much, you know, comparable.
Freddy's being a grand Slam was a little bit more dramatic.
Give him the edge on that, Gibbie's as far as
being the first and a long time and the timing
(21:05):
of it. I give Gibby that one. You know, hey,
I would say you could probably flip a coin. The
emotional factor being that I was the next guy up
and I was really in the moment with that. I
I kind of got to lend that one to Gibby.
If I was on deck for Freddy's, I'd probably give
that one to Freddy. I think it's so close you
could just flip a coin, dude.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Really.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Okay, this is my sincere prayer for the Dodgers game today.
It's going to take.
Speaker 10 (21:32):
About one minute.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
All right, go ahead, Nick, Okay, dear dear Lord who
I love, please provide me with the patience to survive
the miscalculations of the Dodgers manager former Red Sox Dave Robbers.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
All Right, Nick, appreciate the phone call. Yeah, it started
off great.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
I saw, I saw where you wanted to, you know,
do something positive. But I quickly turned. Yeah, that's that
quickly turned mm hm and didn't didn't need that, Nick
did not need that.
Speaker 9 (22:04):
So why are you going to get you know, well
again ambush like that anyway.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Everybody wants to point the finger at Dave Roberts.
Speaker 9 (22:13):
Yeah, that's like like Dave's running and throwing and hitting
right exactly.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
Eight six six eight seven two five seventy David Vatilate
he joins us at eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Coming up.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
We'll hear from Mookie Betts. We'll hear from you as well.
Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy sax
and Kate's.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
In the am uh oh. The Phillies are back in it.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
They win Game three last night, Game four this afternoon,
right here at three o'clock on a five seventy l
A sports You know, I'm not a fan being called
a time slot terrorist. More and more I hear that
more and more.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
I'm like that.
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Just at the grocery store yesterday and some guy was
in line like at the next you know, ready to pay,
and I was getting ready to go. By the way,
I don't I don't like the self checkout unless I
have you know, just two things or so. But I mean,
that's why they pay the people right to take you
through and cast.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
You out and all that. And anyway, I got off
on a tangent there, But.
Speaker 9 (23:12):
Yeah, I'm going through. I'm minded in my own business
like I always do. And some dude is like, way
over and he's got a Philly hat on. Yeah, yeah,
and you know the place is pretty full. But I
you know, I don't I don't bother anybody. I just
do my thing. I leave, and you know, this guy
(23:32):
is getting ready to leave, and he's checked out, he's
getting ready to go out the door and say.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Yo sex TST.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
And I knew what he meant, time slot terrorists. Oh
that's what he meant.
Speaker 9 (23:45):
And and you know, it's it kind of hurts when
you hear, you know, people try to sabotage you like that.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Yo sex t S.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
See everybody hear everybody heard it. It's embarrassing, it's it's
it's embarrassing, it's you know what it is.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
You hate to hear.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
Last night at the game, I I decided to float
around as a working member of the media and doing
the pregame show there. Once the pregame show end, Steve
I don't have a seat, you know, as a media member,
and so I'm just free to move about the country.
Like said, since Kevin wasn't in his seat, maybe you
could have sat in it. Absolutely, I decided to walk around.
(24:19):
So I watched the game last night from different perspectives,
and I started from the club level, the media box level.
Then I went down to the loads level and I
kind of went behind the home plate and just kind
of stood behind the back row and were floating around.
And then I decided to go down to the field level,
and I couldn't see because I'm too short or I
couldn't see over people. So I decided to go out
to the pavilion. So I was there last night in
(24:41):
the left field pavilion when Tommy Edmond hid his solo
home run in the bottom of the third inning, and
I was like, dude, this is awesome out here. I
can do this all day, every game, sitting in the pavilion.
And so for the next inning or so, I just
kind of made my way from the left field pavilion
standing in the back row and just made my way
(25:02):
to center field and then in right field for when
Kyle Schwarber hit the ball that He absolutely crushed four
hundred and.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Fifty five feet.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Were you out there for that?
Speaker 7 (25:12):
I was in center field making my way to right field,
so I just was. I was like, another two minutes
later I'm there when he hits it, and maybe I'm
right there catching it as he hits it out of
the park. But the pavilion last night, if you were
in the pavilion, great job. That place was rocking left field,
right field. It was packed standing room only. The walk
(25:37):
in areas were even full behind the last row, the
pavilions from left field to right field, where I was
at standing room only as well. You just kind of
stand and watch the game with other Dodger fans. When
Edmond hit the home run, I'm a high five and
five six seven other people who I don't even know.
Everybody's celebrating. It was a communal affair out there. It
was Dodger fans, ninety nine point nine of them. Some
(26:00):
of them were all Dodger fans out there. There was
a guy with the drum, somebody had a whistle that
was It felt like a soccer game right It was
just unbelievable. The atmosphere of the pavilion for this playoff
game last night. It was so much fun to be
a part of for about two and a half three
innings in the left field and right field pavilion. I
(26:21):
just want to make sure I shout out all those
fans in the pavilion last night for standing, cheering, booing
the Philly players and just being a part of the
game and making the atmosphere fantastic for a baseball game
for nine innings and showing support for your Dodgers because
they were all decked out in Dodger blue. They all
had their Dodger gear on, and in fact, a lot
(26:42):
of them had transistor radios walking around and I can
hear a five to seven. He was Stephen Nelson and
Rick Monday on the call, which was really cool as
well out in the pavilion. But the drum, the whistle,
the standing, the chance, the excitement, it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Steve.
Speaker 7 (26:57):
I was so fired up last night for Dodger fans,
a sellout crowd, but the pavilion. It been a while
since I've been out there, but man, I'm gonna go
out there as much as I can when I'm at
Dodger the game is that is such a cool environment
out there.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
Yeah, so it's kind of like the uh, you know,
the extension of Vinnie with the transistor radio is how
they used to do. Used to watch the game and
listen to Viny at the same time. So that's a
cool thing. The other thing, I think you had some
input on the excitement and the enthusiasm out there in
the pavilion with your kind of quasi ultimatum yesterday. I
(27:32):
guess you'd say, yeah, uh, you know you you kind
of put it to the fans to be early often
and loud, yep, and it sounds like that's what you
got yesterday.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
It was in the station.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
The stadium was was great as well, because it was
a sellout crowd and when two strikes were on a
Phillies batter and Young Moto was ahead, the fans were
up waving the towels. They were into it, and they
didn't need prompting from the jumbo tron. Dodger fans last
night were dialed into the game. And I've been to
a lot of Dodger games in the last couple of years,
(28:03):
and you can see when the crowd's into it, when
the crowd's not into it, when maybe it's a corporate
crowd as compared to like true Dodger fans inside there,
because there's a difference.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Let's just be honest. I got you last night was
Dodger fans.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
Last night was fans who were into the game from
the first pitch. They were there for every at bat,
and they were there and they desperately wanted their Dodger
team to win.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Last night.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
I haven't felt that in the last six or seven years.
The fans ready to explode, fans ready to cheer for something.
Because when Edmund hit the home run, it was rocking
out in the pavilion. Yeah, it was rocking out in
the pavilion like I hadn't seen in a while. Dodger
fans were there last night, in full force and ready
(28:49):
to go. Unfortunately, the offense wasn't there and the Dodgers
pitching let him down as well. But the fans, credit
to you, great job last night. Bring it today hopefully
for a three log first pitch. It was an unreal
environmental last So.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Are you are you encouraging again?
Speaker 9 (29:05):
From what I'm gathering from you, is you you want
the same enthusiasm, the same people to show up, uh
transistor and all?
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Is that what you're.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
Saying, yeah, bring your radios and be ready to go.
And it was see, you know what, Dodger fans get
a bad rap. Oh, you know, they're just out there partying,
and you know, they get rough and they'll they'll pick fights. No, no,
it was so communal out there, from left field to
right field. I went back and forth, and it was
so communal amongst the fans there. Everybody was just having
(29:36):
a great time. And there was again ninety nine point
ninety percent Dodger fans high five and hugging, chant and cheering.
It was such a cool environment last night. I hadn't
seen it like that in a while on ice and
it was him.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
I want.
Speaker 9 (29:52):
I wanted to bring you an example of another place
where I've seen this happen.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Now.
Speaker 9 (29:57):
Albeit these type of fans get a bad rap too,
I mean sometimes fans get a bad rap and it's
not fair.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
So I'm referring to back in the.
Speaker 9 (30:08):
Day when i'd go sometimes go to Oakland Raiders game
and they got what they call the black Hole, which
sits right behind the uprights, you know, in the end
zone there, and these guys dress up very gothic, very
scary looking people and be like, oh my god, if
I walk even by there, if I have to go
(30:29):
to the restroom or if I want to go get
a soda or something, if I walk by there.
Speaker 16 (30:33):
I'm gonna get mugged. I mean, look at these scary,
ugly people. They're just frightening. You know, there's there's gotta
be fights. They probably drove in on their harleys and
gangs and everything. Right, No, I went there, and I
went through. I walked through the black hole. I actually
went into it. Right there's some of the nicest, most considerate,
fun loving families were in there.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
I mean it was great. There was no it wasn't scary.
Speaker 9 (31:00):
They were great fans, and they got a bad rap,
they really did. And I kind of think that's maybe
what you get out the pavilion, because you know, Dodger
Stadium is kind of a throwback.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
It's such a gem.
Speaker 9 (31:11):
You know, you got you got the old fashioned kind
of stadiums in the outfield or seats in the outfield,
which is really cool. It's open, you know, you're not
crowded by anybody. And in some of the cookie Cutters
that were built after that, there was nothing like that.
Everything was the same Dodger Stadium features different points. As
you pointed out, you know, behind on play, you got
the corporate what off, and then as you go out
(31:32):
a little bit and get in the stands, you got
you know, you got you got community people out there,
people that they just want to come and pay a
few bucks and come to the game and drink a
beer and have your family out there.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
That's what it's all about. Yeah, and that's what I see,
and I see these people as amazing fans.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
Absolutely, it was. It was nothing I had seen in
a while at a Dodger stadium, and it again, I
just want to applaud Dodger fans because you were great
last night.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
You were ready.
Speaker 7 (31:58):
You were wanting this Dodgers team to celebrate an NLDS
and move on to the NLCS. It did not happen,
but it could happen today in Game four at three o'clock.
Let's go to Miguel in Norwalk. Thanks for being patient, Miguel.
Welcome to scam here on ANFI seventy ELI Sports.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Hey, good morning, fellas. I just wanted to let you
guys know that these type of games happen, you know,
loss happen. Pitching doesn't go your way, the bat's goal
cold it happens. The best thing that the Dodgers could
do is just forget about it. Today's another day. They
have already seen Sanches, they've seen this change up. They
got a good, good sense of what he's gonna throw.
(32:39):
I just think it's it's today's another day. Forget about,
forget about last night, and we got it today.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Let's go Dodgers, all right, Miguel, appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (32:48):
Thanks for keeping things going here on Saxon Kates and
the Am. Joe and Santel Karina joins us here on
an five seventy. Joe, good morning, how you doing. What's
your sense of panic? What's your sense of feeling right now?
After the Game three loss last night?
Speaker 12 (33:00):
I wouldn't say I'm panicked, and I think I'm more frustrated.
If you look at the offense over the last three
games that we really haven't hit and the approaches have
been weird. We've taken a lot of strike ones down
the middle or flailed at strike one, or taking strike
three down the middle or flailed at strike three. We've
kind of gotten away with it because the pitching has
been so perfect. But they've got to adjust something with
(33:22):
the offensive approach and start attacking some or attacking some pitchers.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
You're right, Joe, I'm glad you echoed what I kind
of said earlier, that they won the first two games
behind good pitching, and it wasn't you know, crooked numbers
left and right on the scoreboard where they're putting up
runs and blowing out the Phillies and the offense just
putting on a show in the Big Three are doing
their thing. They won because of some pitching, and they
won them because some timely hits and some great defense.
(33:47):
And they got out of Philadelphia with those two wins
last night. When you don't have the great pitching and
the defense is okay, but the offense is still not there,
it's exactly what you get is a lopside at eight
two loss six ninety seven two five said let's squeeze
one more in here, Sacks. Let's go to Luis and Whittier.
Good morning, and welcome to Saxon Kates in the am.
Speaker 14 (34:06):
How you doing, I'm doing well, boys, How are you guys?
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Uh doing okay? Uh well?
Speaker 7 (34:13):
Not as panics, but more frustrated, as our last caller
put it, I think that's a great way to describe it.
Speaker 14 (34:19):
Well, talk about frustration. I'm frustrated with Will Smith. I've
always thought he's been a great player, but his game
calling approach to all these games has been detrimental to
our loss. Because now'll give you an example, to the
last two three weeks that he was out with the
broken hand, the starters have been on fire, and ever
(34:39):
since he came back in the pitching and the game
calling has not been there. What do you guys think?
Speaker 7 (34:45):
It's been a one game It was his first start
since September fourth, last night. He has been coming off
the bench in the first two games of this series
been Roart Vett got to start behind the plate in
Philadelphia last night. Will Smith for the first time this postseason,
got the start behind the plate, struggled to get at
the plate, you know, struck out a couple of times.
The Will Smith offensively we saw the first half of
(35:06):
the season is not the same Will Smith. And certainly
the hand injury is gonna play a factor into it.
But I don't necessarily question the defense or pitch calling
a Will Smith. He's been doing it for the last
couple of years. He's been very good at it. He's
got a great rapport with these Dodgers starting pitching pitchers.
And last night, you know, Yamamoto just didn't get ahead.
(35:27):
Yamamoto didn't get first pitch strikes. Yamamoto couldn't get his
austy pitches over for strikes. And when that happens, other
teams are getting tee off on you, and they took
advantage of that.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
That's not Will Smith's fault.
Speaker 9 (35:37):
No, and one person is great as Otani is as
good as Will Smith's year was this year, it can't
be about one guy. That's the thing about baseball is
you can do some things to help carry a team.
You can't necessarily do it yourself. It's kind of like
an overstatement, but you know, they can certainly be productive
(35:58):
in their lane, but you can't go out there and
be everything to everybody all the time.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Baseball is not made like that. This is the complete
team sport.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
Game four this afternoon. It's a big one. Dodgers in Phillies.
Dodgers do not want to go back to citizens being
parked for Game five on Saturday. We'll have all the
action coming up at three to zero eight this afternoon
with Tyler Glass now on the mount eight six six
nine eight seven two five seventy. We'll hear from Mookie
Betts coming up, David Vats, we'll check in. It's a
Thursday morning where we try to figure out what's going
(36:27):
on with this Dodgers team. Even though they got a
two to one series lead. Can they bounce back today
for Game four? We'll find out together right here at
ANFI seventy LA Sports, Saxon Kates in the am here
on NI seventy la Sports Live in local as we
(36:48):
should be during October baseball, recapping every Dodger game winner loss,
getting you ready for the next one, which is today
Game four of the National League Divisional Series Dodgers and
the Phillies. Dodgers a two to one series lead. Tyler
Glass now will go for the Dodgers. Christopher Sanchez, the
left hander, we'll go for Philadelphia. Show Hey Otani last
(37:08):
night zero for five at the play show Aotani struggling
in this nlds now one for fourteen with seven strikeouts.
Last night, Freddie Freeman went oh for three with a
couple of strikeouts and the hit by pitch. Mookie Betts
was two or for four. He had a triple. He
was standing ninety feet away with one out in the
first inning. The Dodgers had a golden opportunity to get
(37:31):
after Aaron Nola last night in the first inning, but
they could not get a run across. Mookie Betts, hitting
over four hundred so far in this series at the
Big three, he's the one guy that is producing offensively,
had the great defensive play on the wheel playing game too.
Let's hear from Mookie Betts post game last night after
the eight to two loss of the Phillies.
Speaker 8 (37:51):
What does this do?
Speaker 10 (37:52):
If you got to worryal that they're await.
Speaker 15 (37:59):
I'll have to pitch to him, so I don't have
to worry about that. I just have to uh take
care of what I can take care of. That's my
effort and my attitude towards UH tomorrow's game.
Speaker 8 (38:09):
You hit that trip a lot in al Uh in
the first game.
Speaker 15 (38:12):
Do you feel like you, guys, you knows a good
chance to kind of score some runs there and you
set the teller.
Speaker 8 (38:17):
Yeah, for sure, definitely was a missed opportunity.
Speaker 15 (38:20):
But you know, as part of it, you know, but
don't know, made some pitches to get himself out of it.
Speaker 8 (38:24):
And uh, you know he did a good job. Then
there the picture staffed at ever a really good job tonight.
Well you just saw Rangers Forwars here a couple of
weeks ago.
Speaker 15 (38:30):
Line one was he so successful to Uh, he he's
pretty much always successful.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
I mean he's in one of the premier pitchers in
the league.
Speaker 15 (38:39):
I mean I think if uh Rangers Frrez can take
the ball for any team, I'm pretty sure they would
be happy.
Speaker 8 (38:45):
I feel like they have confidence to to win that game. So,
you know, I don't think we had much success then
if kind of the same. So he's a he's a
really good picture. The rookie beame like, you know, a
mental part of this game. You guys are still up
two games one? Yeah, I mean that's yeah.
Speaker 15 (39:03):
The consensus of this interview feels like we're very eliminated.
So I think we have to understand that we're still
up to one. Obviously there's a lot of pressure on
us to play the game. But you know that's a
perfect pressure is a privilege, and that's about play it.
Speaker 8 (39:20):
Well.
Speaker 10 (39:20):
I forever elimination games.
Speaker 11 (39:22):
So it's so tough fun in all of sports really,
in this case in baseball.
Speaker 8 (39:28):
Uh, I don't know. They're just hard and I mean
it's hard to explain. Yeah, I don't really know. I
just know that it's it's hard to put teams.
Speaker 10 (39:36):
Away and.
Speaker 8 (39:38):
You know, it's I don't have an answer for that.
Speaker 10 (39:41):
Okay, Obviously gon have to expect they would come out
like this tonight.
Speaker 8 (39:44):
So how do you how do you flip the script?
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Now?
Speaker 8 (39:46):
How do you put this one behind you? And then
it got off? Tomorrow night we do the same thing
we always do. I mean, Tomorrow's a new day.
Speaker 15 (39:52):
It's going to bring new opportunities, and so we'll we'll
see how.
Speaker 10 (39:57):
Difficult was it to apologize to someone else to way
back there?
Speaker 13 (40:00):
How difficult was it to watch a guy like Kershaw
with all that he's gone kind of struggle on the
big stage like this.
Speaker 15 (40:07):
I meant, it's hard to watch. But you know, we
can't use two inningsists. He's gonna have a statue and
from doctors team, So we have to kind of keep
that in mind and understand that Willie Grants came to things.
Kershaw always the first out Hall of Famer, one of
the best pitchers to ever do it. So if you
(40:28):
like tu innings kind of ruin that then you don't
know baseball.
Speaker 16 (40:31):
Last one, guys, Look, you guys are such creatures of
pilot for Tyler are doing?
Speaker 8 (40:37):
It's done, what he's through.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Last couple of weeks.
Speaker 10 (40:38):
Where yeah, you didn't start, it's gonna straight tomorrow. What
do you expect to give it a change? I don't know.
Speaker 15 (40:47):
I mean, I've never pitched, so I don't I don't
know how that's gonna work. But I have confidence in
him and I think he'll be ready to go.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
All right, there's Mookie Bets.
Speaker 7 (40:57):
I was just about to say, really good questions and
good answers for Mookie Bets, but the last one asking
about Tyler glass Now's routine, how do you think it's
going to affect him? How How is Mookie Bets supposed
to answer a question about Tyler Glass now?
Speaker 2 (41:09):
I would probably see Tyler right.
Speaker 7 (41:11):
Yeah, Why are we asking the shortstop about the next
day starting pitcher? And how do you think his routine
is going to be different since he pitched in a
game in relief in games?
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Come on, guys, what are we doing?
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Yeah, that's that's that's not a good question. We all
know that.
Speaker 9 (41:25):
All you got to do is go ask to you
know you can't miss him me six foot eight or whatever.
I mean, that's who you should talk to about that.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
No doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 7 (41:32):
Let's go to Terry and seem Valley is next up
here on a five seventy LA Sports with sax and
Kates in the am.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
How you doing Terry good?
Speaker 13 (41:38):
How are you guys doing doing good?
Speaker 7 (41:40):
What's going on? How do you feeling about Game three
last night? And if they're able to turn the page
for game four?
Speaker 13 (41:46):
Yeah, I think I think we're good. I think you've
got to go back to the opportunity. If you look
back at last night, the mookie bets third base, one out. Uh,
you know you have one job and let's get that
run in. Tescar should have been looking to hit the
ball the other way, right, Saxon, you know, we the
(42:07):
opportunity arises, we have opportunities. It's not like we're getting
shut down by Oral or Marianna Rivera. We've had the
opportunities when we're struggling at bat. We've got to take
advantage of those opportunities. First and second month. See, we
have that opportunity to move those runners. What's our what's
(42:29):
our approach? Are we moving those runners. We need that
energy to score that run, to get that momentum going,
especially when we're struggling. If you look at our two
hottest Hittersnoki Bets and Kiki Hernandez, we're spraying the ball
all over the place because we're hitting it where it
wants to go. When we got Sanchez tonight, change up pitcher,
(42:50):
we got to be looking to go the other way,
spraying the ball, hit it where it wants to go.
Move runners. One other thing, if you look at the
you know Roberts, if we bring Trining in in the
eighth inning, he's going to get scrutinized for that. I
think it was the right move to stay with Kershaw,
leave our high level pitchers for tonight. I'm confident we
get it done tonight.
Speaker 7 (43:10):
All right, Terry, appreciate the phone call. He mentioned the
opportunities a couple of times. The Dodgers were one for
seven with opportunities and meeting runners on base, runners in
scoring position, one for seven, and I wish I could
say it was one or two guys that had opportunities
with runners on the base and didn't deliver. It was
seven different guys that came up with runners in scoring position.
(43:32):
The only one that delivered was Tommy Edmund with an
RBI single in the ninth inning.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
That's it.
Speaker 7 (43:37):
Six other guys came up with runners in scoring position
last night and could not deliver with the base hit,
And so Dodgers had opportunities, as he mentioned Steve Sex,
they just couldn't cash in on those opportunities.
Speaker 9 (43:50):
Yeah, and sometimes the way it's presented, it sounds like
it's an easy thing just to move a runner.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
It's really easy. No, it's not. You know, it's easier
said than done. You know, hitting against these major league.
Speaker 9 (44:02):
Pitchers is a difficult task in and of itself. But
I think your approaches he was right about that. Your
your approach is important. I think it's it's it's massively important.
You got a guy in second base and nobody out.
You gotta get that runner over. You have to get
the runover. Now, you got a chance or on a
fly ball, you know, a base hit a ball and
play an error, pass ball, bock, whatever it may be.
(44:24):
You got a much better chance of scoring that run
with that guy on third. Now, if you're out and
you got two outs, you know, it's a lot harder
to score that run. It's much easier to score with
just one out, so you gotta get that runner over.
Speaker 7 (44:37):
Gotta get those runs in. They had an opportunity last
night in the first after the one out triple from
Mookie Betts. Tasker Hernandez struck out and the Dodgers could
not get that run across eight sixty six, nine two,
five seventy. Coming up, we'll hear from David Vazz. We'll
hear from you as well. Dodgers now at Game four
against the Phillies. Coming up this afternoon. Tyler Glass now
Christopher Sanchez. Phillies forced a Game four after an eight
(44:59):
two win last night at a Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium
will need to be packed again today like it was
last night, but it's an early start. Three zero eight,
first pitch right here on a seventy LA Sports
