Is not trying to win a championship, They're trying to repeat.

Division champions.

And you know what that means.

This is Saxon Kates in the Morning with Tim Kates

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Kates and World champion Dodger Steve Sacks.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Oh, we got ourselves a series now. Dodgers took both
games in Philadelphia, had to close it out with the
sweep last night with the Phillies fought back, and now
at Game four this afternoon out of Dodgers Stadium, first
pitch at three toh eight, Dodgers dot Com slash postseason
to grab up those remaining tickets for this game. Four
(01:13):
Tyler Glass now Christopher Sanchez coming up at three oh
eight WI Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck ind and it
started at two o'clock this afternoon. Mickey Hatcher joins us
at the bottom of the hour, coming up to talk
a little Dodgers baseball and looking forward to having Mickey on.
Also your phone calls eight six, six, nine eighty seven,
two five seventy Rogan to Ronnie will be on earlier
today Flexback starting at eleven am. Petro Some Money will
(01:35):
be on noon to two leading into Morongo Casino, Dodgers
on Deck and joining us now. The Dodger Insider, the
guy that you go to for all the latest Dodger information,
and we're lucky to have him right here on AMPI
seven ELA Sports. You see him on sports and net
LA as well, and of course MLB networked out as
the one and only David Vase. David last night certainly
didn't go the way that Yamamoto and the Dodgers wanted.
(01:57):
They had opportunity after opportunity until it got away from him.
But how confident do you feel about this Dodgers team
able to bounce back today? The way the offense is
is kind of struggling.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, I mean yesterday was struggling. But they had scored
four or more runs in thirteen straight postseason games, including
the first two of this series. So, like you said,
they had a great opportunity in the very first sitting
to get to Aaron Nola. They missed it, and unfortunately
ta Oscar Hernandez got a little over zealous with his
(02:33):
swings there. All they needed was a base hit or
a ground ball to the right side to get Mookie
Betts in and you have an early one nothing lead.
They needed to get to Aaron Nola before Ranger Suarez
came in. That would have changed the complexion of the
game and just the way the direction of the second
part of that game went. And for the second straight game,
(02:56):
poor defense by the Dodgers. To me, that's morgan earning
than the offense having an off night and Yamamoto uh
not not pitching well. After Schwarber hit that mamm A
home run. The Dodgers need to be better defensively because
they haven't been very good the last two games of
the series.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
David, good to be with you. I hope you have
if if in fact, it gets to the game going
to Philly, which I don't think it's going to but
I hope you just don't go there without any clothes.
I mean, you got to pack something. Bro Okay, anyway.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I'm not packing, Steve.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
I got you show hey at the at the top
of the order. To me, you know, it looks like
he's trying to do a lot. The guy carries a
lot on his shoulders. You know, he's Uh, is there
any talk that you've heard, maybe internally, that he's working
on something now to try to to maybe just go
the other way a little bit, maybe just take what
(03:52):
the pitcher gives you, whatever it is. You know, all
these things are magnified. But I'm I'm curious as too.
Is him just trying to do too much maybe and
to carry everything on his shoulder, which isn't fair to him.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
He's so competitive, Steve, and he wants to be able
to carry the Dodgers. That's how competitive he is. He
feels like nothing is too great of a mountain to climb,
or any picture is an obstacle to him, or any
hitter is an obstacle to him. But Dave Roberts did
say after the game last night, that he believes his
(04:27):
struggles is because of poor swing decisions, and when shohe
tries to go too big and swings out of his shoes,
it doesn't go well. So the Dodgers are hoping that
he can just I mean sounds like you've seen this before. Yeah,
maybe he shouldn't try to do so much. And you know,
Otani has been a really good teammate with team at
(04:52):
bats in the past, moving the runner over with a
ground ball to the right side. He's done that at
times and he needs to get back to that, and
the Dodgers need him. They can't go the rest of
the postseason with shoey Otani only having one hit in
the series, so they did Otani to get it going.
They need Freddy Freeman to find it. You know, Freddy
(05:12):
has told me multiple times he takes batting practice on
the field when he's looking for his swing. And I
have seen him take batting practice on the field before
each in one of these first three games of the series.
So hopefully it's starting to click for him.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
As as bad as it ended last night, David, with
an a to two loss, it was a three to
one game. They had the opportunities we talked about Max months.
He had runners on first and second grounded into a
double play. Clayton Kershaw came in and got out of
that seventh inning without giving up a run. Some balls
hit right at guys, which was fortunate, and he comes
(05:49):
back out for the eighth INNY. One were you surprised
that you saw him come back out there for the
eighth inning? And two were could they have gone to
a different guy's lake trying it earlier in that eighth
inning to keep it at a three to one game,
Because it felt like at that point Dave Roberts had
to make a decision, did we stick with Kerrshaw because
we don't want to go to our high leverage guys
(06:09):
down three to one, and let's just wait for our
offense to go and get going, because at that point
you don't want to burn your guys for a game four.
It was kind of a tough situation for Dave.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Roberts, it was, and I had no issues with him
going back out to the eighth inning. That's his role.
He's a guy that is going to pitch multiple innings,
So for him to go back out for the eighth
inning was not surprising. With the Dodgers down three to one.
You don't want to burn emit sheen like you said,
(06:39):
Blake Trning, is he really gonna go two innings? You know,
two innings plus everybody all of a sudden wants Blake
Trenton in the game after everybody's been tearing him down
for the last two months. Uh So he had no options.
You know who would have been the right guy to
come in there to get Kershaw out was Tanner Scott,
but Tanner's was not at the stadium. He was not
(07:02):
introduced because Dave Roberts said he was not at the
game because of personal reasons. That would have been the
guy to bring in if you wanted to get Kershaw
out in that type of situation, Which brings me to
another question. Do the Dodgers decide that they need to
replace Tanner Scott on the postseason on the NLDS roster
(07:23):
before today's game or do they feel like they can
get away with it because he probably wouldn't pitching this
type of game. But if there's another blowout situation and
you don't want to use any of your high leverage
relievers in any direction, don't you need a guy to
kind of clean that up late in the game. So
(07:43):
I feel like that's something the Dodgers may be considering
before Game four, whether or not they have to replace
Tanner Scott because of the personal reasons that has kept
kept him away from the team the last couple of days.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yeah, that's a good point. Point, David wanted to ask you,
or maybe just make a comment and see what your
thoughts are on glasnow starting this game. I think he's
I think he's gonna be rested. He's fine, he's well
suited and all that physically ready. I think he gives
the Dodgers, to me, the best chance of mitigating that.
That the middle of the order power with Schwarber and
(08:20):
Harper and the thing about him, he just has to
pitch his normal game. He doesn't have to try to
go in the fringes of the plate. That big curveball
in and of itself, changes the eye angle tremendously on
these guys, which opens up the lower part of the
strike zone for him and enables his fastball to pitch
on all four quadrants of the plate. He just buckles
these guys with that hook that starts over their head
(08:43):
and comes down the middle of the plate. They still
can't hit it because it's got great depth to it
and it's got a vicious break. So in my opinion,
this is their best opportunity right now with Glasnow in
the matchups, he matches up great against this lineup.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Yeah, when he's on his game, he's everything that you said.
The only question at times this season is when maybe
he's getting too much into his head, maybe overthinking the mechanics,
and when he does that, it starts to unravel quickly.
They need Tyler Glass Now to set the tone early
in this game.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
He needs to put up.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
The zero, be dominant like he has been since he
came off the IL. He's been a different guy since
coming off the IL. I'm talking specifically about being more
of a competitor on the mound. When things don't feel
perfect for him, he still battles and that's what they
need out of him today. And it's been a while
(09:41):
since he started a game. He hasn't started a game
since the last series of the regular season in Seattle,
and that was a unabbreviated start, three innings, thirty six pitches.
I know he did pitch and relief earlier in this series,
but this will be the first time he has started
a game in nearly ten days, so he is well
(10:02):
rested and he should be able to give the Dodgers
everything they need tonight.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
David Lasting for me, Andy Paijs has struggled mightily in
this postseason and it was on display again last night.
And even on defense. What has he got to do
to turn things around? It It feels like, you know,
he's got to be one of these guys in the
you know, middle part, bottom part of the lineup to
produce and whether it's a home run, get get on base.
(10:28):
He just hasn't done anything.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Yeah, Well, you want to talk about a guy trying
to do too much, that's Andy pa has. The swings,
the quality of that bats are completely a guy trying
to do too much and they're ending way too quickly
in a bad way. Defensively, he hasn't played well either.
He's given up extra bases. He unwisely tried to throw
(10:53):
out Bryce Harper at third base instead of just getting
the ball back to the infield, and that costs the
Dodgers not just one run, but two runs. And we
saw Alex Call start Game one of this series against
Christopher Sanchez and he had good at bats against him,
and he's had good success against Sanchez in the past.
(11:13):
I don't doubt for a second that Alex call is
going to be in this starting lineup, and there's a
very good chance that Andy pa has starts this game
on the bench.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Gay David, you know the games as they're playing out now.
You surely don't want to go back to Philadelphia. You
want to end this thing now in the right situation
with I'm saying, if the Dodgers are head by one
run or two runs late in the game, do they
throw everything in their pitching staff at this team to
(11:44):
try to nail this thing down, even if it comes
to matching up hitter for hitter for the last say,
six outs. Do they do this to avoid the possibility
of going back there or how much do they throw
at this team as far as the pitching is going.
If we're ahead late in the game.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, em Shean's on the table, Steve, he'll be ready
to go for three innings. I feel like and Roki
Sasaki an extra day of rest yesterday where it was
in a safe situation. So I feel like the Dodger
pitching staff is in a good spot. Alex Vesia never
warmed up last night, so he's been a key, high
leverage reliever. So the three key relievers for the Dodgers, Vesia,
(12:24):
Shean and Sasaki are well rested. And I would not
think for a second that Dave Roberts wouldn't hesitate to
go to any one of those three guys. So yeah,
I mean when you talk about the kitchen sink, Blake
Snell's not pitching today, but those three guys will be.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
David as always, Eli.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
One other thing to keep in mind. Talking to no
More and Jeff Francore yesterday before the game, they said
today's game for the outfielders is going to be very challenging,
especially the right fielders. Three o'clock at Dodger Stadium, right
side of the field, it's gonna be tough for the
out of the right fielders to see the ball. You
saw Castianos almost miss one in the first inning last night,
(13:09):
So that's something to keep in mind from two guys
that have experienced playing there.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Great point, great point, David, great stuff as always. We
enjoyed Dodge Talk last night. UH looking forward to hopefully
a celebratory postgame show this afternoon after the three o'clock
first pitch. Appreciate David.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
All right, guys, I'll talk to you from La tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
I hope, so, friend, I hope. So there he goes
David VS say he is not packing a bag for
Philadelphia as the Dodgers can close out this series with
a win this afternoon. Again it's a three to oh
eight first pitch, and earlier first pitch, then last night
three to oh eight first pitch. We got Morongo Casino
Dodgers on deck beginning at too. Mickey Hatchell Joys at
the bottom of the hour. But he brought up a
great point with the shadows, and we said, we bring
(13:51):
up the S word in the eight o'clock hour, and
usually we don't like to bring up bad words, but
the S word shadows. Steve Sacks, you played second base
many a day game, late afternoon game, early evening games
at Dodger Stadium in your career as a Dodger. The
shadows are real, aren't they.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Yes, a little different from me playing second base, but
the right fielders are gonna get a little flatter view
of of what's in front of them, and they're gonna
get more shadows. They're gonna get more, you know, more
of a of in and out, if you will, from
sunlight to shadows. So a little tougher for those guys
than the infielders, but nonetheless they're trained to do this.
(14:29):
They'll have the uh, they'll have the goggles on, and
they should be able to handle it, getting an angle
on the ball to get to the side and using
their glove to block it out. They know how to
do this and they'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
What about at the plate? At least at three o'clock
it won't be an issue. But you start getting to
four forty five five o'clock, when that's the shadows of
the stadium start coming into play at the mound and
home plate, that's where things could get interesting. How important
is it for a quick start early in this game
to get some.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
On the board. Then it's gonna be my point. You
get out to a big lead, you don't have to
worry about that. But you know, the good thing is,
obviously it's the same for both teams. You're gonna have
to you're gonna have to deal with it, and uh,
you know, hopefully it'll just be one more game like
this and then you go on to the next round
and deal with it then. But Uh, both teams got
to deal with it, and you just got to try
to really concentrate on being aggressive in your zone and
(15:23):
not to go out and chase a lot because people
have a tendency to do that. When the ball is
coming from sunlight into shadow, it casts a bit of
a different perspective that you got to deal with. So
let's try to stay in your zone and be aggressive
aggressive in that zone.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Explain it if you will. Is it hard to pick
it up and then you lose it and then you
have to try to pick it up again, or is
it just a good ball you can't figure out where
he's even at.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
It's good and it's good to see the ball. If
it's in the sunlight, you can see it coming out
of the hand and that's the most important thing. You
Then that shadows cast a different bit of a of
a view on the ball. It's sometimes you lose it
a little bit. You can see the intricate little details
sometimes of the ball where if it's a slider, the
seams create what is what they call a dimple, and
(16:08):
it looks like there's a dimple on the ball when
it's coming. That's what sometimes sliders do. A tight slider
will do that. You have a Tennessee to loose that
in the shadow, so it's a bit tougher when it's
coming from sun to shadow.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Shadows will be an issue. The S word will rear
its ugly head again today out of Dodger Stadium, but
it will be for both teams, as Steve mentioned, which
is a good thing. The Dodgers will have Tyler Glass
now on the mound. Christopher Sanchez, a leftender, will go
for the Phillies will come up. We'll hear from Mickey Hatcher.
We'll get to your phone calls as well. Here until
nine o'clock this morning, and then we'll turn things over
(16:40):

Nowhere else to go to get the best coverage, then
right here on a FI seventy l A Sports, Jacks

and Kates and the AM with you all postseason long,
live and local on your home of the Dodgers AM
five seventy LA Sports. Thanks for being with us. You
can find us also on the iHeartRadio app. Tweeted out
the link at Tim Kates if you want to follow
on x. Dodgers had a chance to close out the
Phillies last night in Game three of this NLDS, but
(17:24):
back come Kyle Schwarber and the Phillies with an eight
to two win as they force a Game four this afternoon.
We'll have Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck beginning at two o'clock,
and then we've got first pitch at three to eight
as the Dodgers look to close out the Phillies this
afternoon and avoid going back to the bank in Philadelphia
(17:46):
for a Game five on Saturday night. I'm just watching
the MLB Network. Mickey Hatch is gonna join us coming
up in just a couple of minutes. I was watching
the MLB Network during the break and Mark De Rosa
and Ryan Roland Smith, a former leftander out of Australia
now in Atalys breaking down show Hey Otani and his
struggles in this NLDS, and again I just love the breakdown.
(18:07):
They're showing his right hip flying out every time he's swinging.
Dave Roberts talked about his swings and his decision making
at the plate recently in the NLDS and it's on
full display, and they were showing what the Philly strategy
has been towards Otani. Saxy. They're throwing him inside, change ups,
inside curve balls, inside fastballs, inside splitters, inside, they're pounding
(18:30):
the inside part of the plate and getting him to
fly open on all of his swings, and then they'll
come back with the pitch outside, out of the zone,
and they're getting the swing and missus and the chases
outside of the strike sound. So the Phillies are I've
got a game plan and they have orchestrated it perfectly
against Otani the first three games.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
This strategy is is you know, been around forever. It's
called get you get ahead on the count inside and
get them out away. It's been around forever, and that's
why I'm a big advocate of knowing they're trying to
do this. A lot of the pitches that they're throwing,
if you've noticed, on the inside part of the plate,
(19:11):
are off the plate. They're three or four inches off
the plate. And if you get a guy like show
Hey to offer it that pitch, you just keep throwing
it until he stops swinging at it. When he stops
swinging at it, they have to come to the plate more.
If they come to the plate more, show he's going
to crush them. So it all starts with him telling them,
I'm not going for it. I'm not swinging at the
(19:33):
pitch off the plate. You're gonna have to come onto
the plate. When you come onto the plate, I'm dangerous.
Especially if he's looking up the middle and the other way,
he can hit the ball out of the park. Even
not being perfect, he can do it, and lord knows
what happens if he's on time and he pulls the
ball that is real dangerous. Then you're talking parking lot shots.
So that's all he's got to do. Lay off of
(19:55):
that ball that's inside, let him get ahead on the
count and then look middle of way and watch the
fireworks happen.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Hopefully he can get back on track this afternoon here
in Game four. Hopefully the Dodgers offense can get some
runs to pick up some cricket numbers on the scoreboard.
The Dodgers can get this series clinching win and get
ready for the NLCS. But the fighting phills are not
going to go away quietly. We saw that last night
with an eight to two win over the Dodgers. He
was out at the game last night. Mickey Hatcher, two
(20:23):
time World Series champ as a Dodger and of course
as a coach with the Angels, and he joins us
now here on a five to seventy LA Sports with
Steve Sacks and Tim kats Hatch. How you doing, Good.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Morning, Good morning guys, And here we go.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Again, playoff time to McKee.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Here we are again, the Dodgers and the fighting Phills
going at it in the NLDS and a Phillies team
last night that had nothing to lose, bats up against
the wall and they came out scratching and clawing, and
Kyle Schwarber came out swinging and they get the win.
And just your over thoughts on this Dodgers team. They
were red hot coming in. They had won nine in
a row underfeeding in the postseason until last night and
(21:04):
things just kind of got away from the Dodgers. How
confident do you think they can come back today and
get this decisive win.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
I got a lot of confidence on this team. I
think this roster is right where they want it to be.
Right now. You know, they got a lot of with
a lot of players of that lineup that lines up good.
They just had a tough game last night and you know,
Phillies was trying to let him come back with all
their base running mistakes, but Dodgers just couldn't get it going.
(21:33):
But you know it's like, well, like I heard Saxy
talking about Otani. Oh you know, Toni's he's a magic
part of the lineup, and I think they feed off
of him. And you know, the way he's struggling right
now is just kind of the way that the offense
is going. But I think he's going to break out.
He's just such a great tunidate, hitter and smart, and
(21:58):
like Saxy says, he's going to come out. You see
how you see his face and even he's going through
this slump, you don't see this like, oh I'm in
trouble kind of look. You know, you know he's gonna
come through and break out and this lineup's going to
be fired.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Yeah, Mickey, good to be with you this morning. I
just remember that big home run you hit, and I
believe I was Game one when I got hit by
the pitch. You were the next guy and hit a
bomb out of there. It almost passed me up on
the bases. I turned around after I hit on Playton Boo,
you were right right on my hind end. I thought, geez,
Mickey mus have been sprinting around those bases. But Mickey,
when you were in that situation, I'm trying to draw
(22:37):
a comparison here between what Otani's going through and what
you saw when you came up in the big moment
and hit a huge home run. Were you thinking just
seaball hit ball. Was it all just go up there
and instinctively just seeing and hitting it, or you know,
did you delve into the rabbit hole and signs of
hitting and and kind of break it down. Is maybe
a lot of us are doing too much with Otani.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Yeah know, it's just like anything else. You know, we
go out there, we take batting practice, We try to
hit the ball the other way. We try to use
the big part of the field. That was our big thing.
And you know, Tony's got when he's going good, he's
got powered all fields. And it does look like he's
just trying to really knock the ball out of the
park and pull it, but that's been his swing. You know,
(23:19):
he's all maxed out when he swings at a pitch,
he swings at a pitch. But I think if he
gets to the big part of the field, you know,
he starts getting some base hits the other way. You know,
that's when he's really dangerous. And right now, you know
they're just they want to punch him in, they want
to throw him, expand the zone on him, and you know,
(23:41):
he's one of those guys that man. He's like when
Barry Bonds was so hot, he had that little box
that you threw a ball in. It was gone, and
I think he's just got to get back to that role.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Series Champion Mickey Hatcher joining us here on Saxon Kates
and the AM on Your Home with the Dodgers AM
five seventy l a sports coming up in January eleven
through the seventeenth over a Camelback Ranch in Arizona. You
could wear a Dodger uniform. You can hang out with
Mickey Hatcher and former Dodgers at the Dodgers Adult Camp.
It's at Camelback Ranch January eleven through the seventeenth. If
(24:13):
you want to find out more, Dodgers dot Com Slash
Adult Camp. A lot of great stories are told and
your chance to put on a Dodger uniform along with
a lot of Dodger greats who will be out there. Momentum, Mickey,
we talk about it in baseball, and the Dodgers had
some momentum the first two games and they were riding
a nine game winning streak and the pitching was doing
great and feeling good about the way they were playing
(24:35):
against his Phillies team who snatched back. I guess this
momentum last night with the win is momentum thing in
baseball In a series like this that's so short, only
five games?
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Can it?
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Is it game to game? Do you believe in momentum baseball?
Speaker 3 (24:49):
I think it's game to game. I mean, you know
that this game is big because I think the Dodgers
a momentum, momentum is still with them because they got
two wins. But you know they're going to come out.
They're professionals. They've been in this spot for a guy
with the last I don't know how many years, so
you know they're going to come out and they're just
(25:10):
going to play baseball. And you know, I just think
that it's game to game with them. You know, they're
just they've been here all the time. They know it.
They got a lot of guys with experience, and you know,
that's how these guys play. That's how the Dodgers are.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, and again, Mickey, we're looking forward to the Dodger Camp.
We're both going to be there January eleventh, seventeenth down
in Glendale. It's going to be a blast. And don't
we have fun down there doing that.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I'm going to tell you what, if people are listening
to this, you have to do that camp because no
matter what you think, you won't be the worst player
that shows up at this camp. And we have so
much fun and all the players have fun and and
it's great, and you know, we got you don't have
(25:57):
to be an athlete, you don't have to be the
best shape ever. We could send you pictures of a
lot of our campers and it's it's for everybody and girls, guys,
And I tell you the stories, the bond that happens
with all the alumnis and the players, it's probably one
of the best.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Yeah, Mickey, I've made some great friendships. So some of
the guys down there that you see after camp and whatnot,
and you know, it's great to kind of mix with
them with everybody. So anyway, I want to ask you
another question about a bullpen with the Dodgers right now.
They seem well rusted with me, and we've talked about
this in the last segment. Sasaki and Shehn and Vesia
(26:39):
can come in there and pitch more than just in
any if they need be but banda and trying and
dryer and these guys, they showed that they're back on it.
They're on point, and they can come in there even
for you know, an out or two or maybe a
full ining. So I think this bullpen is back and
you can kind of squash the thing that says, wow,
the bullpens the weakness. I don't think that's the anymore.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
I think Sasaki established that. I think you know, him
coming out there in that one game and closing it
out just made a different different tone for everybody on
that team when you know you have that one guy
that could come in and close it out and do
a good job. And I think it's just going to
help the rest of the bullpen guys. So that's the
(27:24):
biggest part that I really like about the Dodgers right
now and their chances to move forward, is that just
putting him in the bullpen as a closer fil.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Thing for me, Mickey, you played for Tommy Lasorda. The speeches,
the raw rod, they get guys fired off. Dave Roberts
is not necessarily like that. If you're Dave Roberts today,
knowing you don't want to go back to Philadelphia for
Game five, does he need to say anything to his team?
Does he need to be different and give a raw
rospiece to give him motivational something in that clubhouse? Is
(27:55):
Dave Roberts just going to be who he is? How
does he approach today and what really is a pivotal
game trying to avoid going back to citizens Big Park.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
I just think how he goes around the locker room.
His uh, his personality, Uh just uh he every day
you just walk by a player and give him knuckles
and say, come on, this is our day. You know,
he's not that big speech guy, but he does it
individually with all the players and they just have that
great relationship. And he knows they're going to go out there,
(28:27):
they're gonna they're gonna play hard and and they're going
to do it for him. But his just having his
presence around there and that Uh, that confidence feeling and
that smile and that uh you know, he's got that
little energy that he does it, but he doesn't do
it all and he doesn't have to make the big speech.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Yeah, Mickey all conclude on this one. I wanted to
ask you, you know that the offense has been a
little bit muted lately. What do you think it's going
to take. What person do you think is gonna have
to kind of you know, make the you know, rising
tides gonna lift all the ships. Which which do you
think in this line is going to have to be
the one that steps up, gets that big hit, maybe
brings him from behind with a three run home or
(29:07):
whatever it may be. Maybe it's a double in the
gap that clears the basis, Who do you think is
going to be the guy to step up and do that?
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Well, they got so many guys in that lineup that
they you know, that that can do that, and uh,
you know, Tani's one of them. It seems like they
really feed on Otani. Otani's gonna come up there be
the leadoff hitter in a game like you are, Saxe.
I mean, it's big when your leadoff hitter gets it
going for the offense. Uh, that's a that's a big plus.
And I think that's what they need with him, is
(29:36):
you know, he hasn't done it, and uh, you know,
I think that's going to be the big part of
the game today. I think he's going to come out
there and do it. Uh and uh, you know, we'll
just see where it goes from there. But they got
so many guys in that lineup that can with one swing,
can turn it around and get that energy going. And
that's what those guys feed off of. And yesterday was
(29:57):
just one of them games where it just didn't happen.
And you know, I just like I said, I think
there's too many guys in that lineup that could really
be that spark plout.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
You can hang out with Mickey Hatcher, Steve Sacks and
Dodger greats at the Dodgers Adult Camp Dodgers dot Com
slash Adult Camp. It's January eleventh through the seventeenth at
Cammel Back Ranch in Arizona. It is a great time.
You get to put on a Dodger uniform and you
get to be surrounded by Dodger greats like Mickey Hatcher
and Steve Sacks. Mickey we really appreciate you coming on
(30:30):
this morning. Hopefully the Dodgers can get this clinching win
today and we can get onto the NLCS and face
either of the Brewers of Chicago. But first things first,
take care of business today. We really appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Thanks Mickey.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
All right, gotta be a good game today, all right,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
All right, there he goes, the great Mickey Hatcher joining
us here on AFI seventy LA Sports. This these adult
camp Saxy. It's fun for the campers that come out
and get to live out a dream putting on a
Dodger uniform at the Dodger Spring training Complex in Arizona.
But how cool is it for you guys to get
together again. You don't did to see all the former
(31:05):
teammates and guys who played before you and after you.
They come back as former alumni as well very often.
Speaker 5 (31:10):
But this is kind of a cool week for you guys, right,
I can kind of sum it up quickly. There's there's
one night during the week where it's kind of like
we have a barbecue at the hotel where everybody stays,
and after after we eat, we all sit around the
fire and we do we just tell stories. We tell
our Dodger funny stories. Uh, and are you know we've
(31:33):
been with different teams, the stories Mickey tells about being
with the angels and whatnot. And all the guys, all
the coaches, you know, Eric Carrow, Steve Garvey, myself, Mickey,
Kenny Landro and you know, I'm going to leave a
lot of guys out, I know, Jerry Harrison and everybody.
We're all we're all around. We're all around this campfire
at the hotel and all the campers that want to come.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Kind of we sit in the middle and then they
just kind of keep us warm because it gets kind
of chilly at night. But we're all sitting around the
fire and we're telling stories for like an hour and
a half. And I think that's kind of like what
is kind of like the epitome of the bonding thing
that we do telling all those stories. We get together
and everybody that wants to come can come and listen
(32:18):
to all these stories, and so they get to enjoy
it too. And I've been told that that's one of
their favorite times of the week, is to listen to
all these unbelievable stories that you can't make up. None
of them are phony and it's unbelievable the hilarity that
they're going to get to experience in this it's it's
pretty great.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Dodgers dot Com slash adulcam. You can hang out with
former Dodger greats like Steve Sacks, Mickey Hatcher and many others.
You can also hang out with us right here on
Sacks and Kates and the A. And we got one
more segment to go. Look at Steve's Keith Scamp, Steve's
Keys to a Game four win coming up next as
we get ready for Game four the National League Divisional Series.
(32:57):
Who's ready, Who's nervous? Who's who's fearless about today's game?
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Scam?
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Scam? It is okay today am lead you up to
Ruggin and Rodney Petros of money Morogo Casino. Dodgers on deck.
We are locked and loaded, ready to go Game four
of the NLDS Right here on AMPI seventy l I
Sports to a Game four we go Dodgers and the Phillies.
(33:27):
Dodgers a two to one series lead. Couldn't close it
out last night, looking to do it this afternoon, Yes,
this afternoon, three oh eight, first pitch, not at six o'clock,
not at seven to ten, A three to oh eight
first pitch, Get out to the ravine. Limited tickets still available.
Dodgers dot com slash postseason Dodgers dot com slash postseason.
(33:50):
Tyler Glass now Christopher Sanchez the pitching matchup. Dodgers saw
Sanchez in Game one. Dodgers were hoping that Clayton h
Tyler Glass now today can give him the great outing
and get to that deep end of the bullpen and
maybe we'll see rookie Susaki come in and close things out.
Last night, things did not go as scripted, as the
Dodgers were down three to one, and then things got
away with him. In the eighth inning, Clayton Kershaw gave
(34:12):
up the five runs. Dodgers lose eight to two. But
that was last night's saxon and we put that behind
us and we get ready for Game four this afternoon.
A must win Game four in my mind, because you
do not want to go back to Philadelphia for Game five,
don't want to travel tomorrow, don't want to play Saturday
night at Citizens Bank Park. Take care of business this afternoon,
(34:35):
and that leads us to Steve's Keys for a Game
four win how do they get it done this afternoon.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
I got the simple approach to Tim. I like David
Vasey's efforts of saying or non effort of packing, because
he's not going to have to. They're not going back
to Philly. Here's what I think is going to be
the key you need. As I asked Mickey, somebody to
have the rising tide that's gonna lift all ships. Hitting
(35:03):
is extremely contagious, very very contagious. And I think the
obvious guy to do it is we need a show. Hey,
Otani explosion. We need a home run to left center field.
We need some some rattling the ball off the off defense,
we need. We need to see, you know, Tani at
(35:23):
his best. They can't hold him down forever. He's too good.
I think you're gonna see it tonight. Otani's gonna explode.
The rest of the team's going to follow. And I
think the pitching is gonna almost be insignificant tonight, which
I never say. I always say it's the opposite. But
I think it's gonna be insignificant. They're gonna have. I
think it's gonna be one of these thirteen to two games.
(35:44):
That's that's what I think.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Oh, I love it. A thirteen to ten.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
I mean just a just an a whipping you know
what I mean, A big blank whipping tonight.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
I love it. And if shoe Otani can get it going,
that means there's some positive vibes. That means there's some polosanto.
The whole team will explode. Oh I love They need
everybody to get going top to bottom, and it all
starts with showey Otani. I'm absolutely with you. This guy
needs to get it going in Game four this afternoon.
Speaker 5 (36:12):
If he doesn't, tim, they're not gonna win it. That
that's that simple. It's that simple. He's that important.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
He is zero for five last night, one for fourteen
with seven strikeouts.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
In this series.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
He has struggled against left handers. Just the one hit
was an RBI single in Philadelphia, but last night did
not look good at the played. Show Hey Otani, some
positive vibes. Get at your pado santo right now. Dodger fans,
send that positive vibes to Dodger Stadium and show hey Otani.
In this Dodgers offense, I'm confident in Tyler Glass. Now
(36:46):
he'll go up and put up zeros. But the Dodgers
offense cannot put up zeros. The Dodgers offense needs to
get after Christopher Sanchez. Get after him early before the
s word comes in.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
They need a merry go round here. They need a
turnstile back and forth from that dugout with high fives everywhere.
Get it started early, get the fans involved, and watch
Show hey erupt tonight. That's what I think is gonna happen.
And it's got to happen sometime or you know, they're
going to be foundering. They have to have Show Hay explode, and.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
They better do it earlier. As you mentioned earlier in
the show, the shadows will come. They will creep onto
the field late as the game continues to go on
around five o'clock five point thirty. Those shadows will be
real at Dodger Stadium for the hitters advantage pitchers in
that case is the Dodgers want to score early and
off and against Christopher Sanchez. Show Hey o Tani hands
(37:43):
down the X factor, the key to the Dodgers getting
a Game four win. And tomorrow morning, Saxy, we're talking
about the NLCS. You're pretty confident that we're looking ahead
to the next series.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
Absolutely. I think that's going to be the case. You
don't want to go back to Philly. It's tough place
to play. Even though you scratched out too in the beginning.
It's not always going to be like that. Baseball is
a very fluid, very fluid game. Things change, micro changes,
macro had happens both sides of it. But you just
got to live within the world you're in right now,
(38:14):
and that is you need your stars. Your stars must
rise to the top. I mean you saw yesterday the
stars for the Phillies did. Now we need the the
Los Angeles Dodger stars to rise to the top, and
you'll see what's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Where are you show? Hey, o Tani, don't danced off?
Freddie Freeman? Where is Mookie Bets? Big three? Where are you?
We need you for Game four of the n LDS
this afternoon again, wronggo because you know Dodges on deck
gets it all started at two o'clock, first pitch at
three oh eight. Saxy, great stuff to morning, Always fun
(38:48):
and we'll talk to tomorrow bright and early at six am.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
See you tomorrow with a happy smile.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
All right. Thank you to Zach, Thank you to Michelle
coming up next, Colin calherd Rugan and Rodney getting early
start at eleven o'clock, Petro some money at noon and again.
Then we'll have Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck beginning at
two pm. First pitch of three toero eight. It's a
big one, Tyler Glass. Now, Christopher Sanchez, let's go, Dodgers.
Where's the Big three?
Speaker 5 (39:12):
We need you so long
