Speaker 1 (00:01):
They say, the hardest thing in sports isn't winning a title.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's hard to repeat seasons. It's winning it again.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
This year.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Is not trying to win a championship, They're trying to repeat.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
It's October baseball for your world champion in La Dodger.

Speaker 4 (00:15):
The twenty twenty five Dodgers are the National League's Western
Division champions.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
And you know what that means.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Saxon Kates and AM is back.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
This is Saxon Kates in the Morning with Tim Kates
and former World Champion Dodger Steve Sacks.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Reacting taking your phone calls talking Dodgers playoff baseball all
postseason long.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Now here they are on AM five to seventy LA

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Steve Sacks, Tim Kaits.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Tim Kates and World Champion Dodger Steve Sacks.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh, what a glorious Friday morning here in the city
of Los Angeles and all across Southern California. As a
Los Angeles Dodger are now one win away from punching
their ticket to back to back World Series appearances. The
Dodgers a three to one win over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday.

(01:12):
Out of Dodgers stadium. I am Tim Kayes, joined by
two times World Series champion, rookie of the Year, our favorite,
number three, and he threw out the first pitch yesterday
out of Dodgers Stadium and throw a strike. He is
Steve Sacks Saxeyicon mornings himmy, how you doing? Oh man,
I'm fired up. The Dodgers keep right on rolling. But
I think the biggest story from yesterday wasn't what happened

(01:35):
between the nine innings of baseball. It's what happened about
seven minutes before first pitch. The national anthem beautifully sung
the American flag all across the outfield. The players lined
up along the first baseline and the third baseline, and
then out came number three and out came number fourteen
in Steve Saxson, Mike's osha, and you guys threw out
the first pitch.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Well, I think you can feel the weight of it
if you were there, right. It was an epic moment.
The flyover they had that for Sociani. You know that flyover,
did you know? Because socias out there was a very slow,
big kind of slug plane.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
But I'm just giving it to Mike for a little bit.
But you know. The great thing too, was.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Spending time before the game talking to the people about scam. Yeah,
and a lot of people listened to scam and it
was great. Didn't have a shirt. The guy didn't show
up with the shirt, but he got to spend a
lot of time yesterday with John Blundell, the former bat
boy the Yankees, who I used to rub my underwear
in his face after the game.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Now he's a bigly, a big wig.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
He's right under uh you know the commissioner right now,
he's right under.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
He's right there in real Manfred. He is a big deal.
He's a big deal man. That's a good person. You bet.
John Blundell, good dude.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
We had a lot of lot of laughs yesterday and
David Vassy was right in the middle of it.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
How was the uh, the environment on the field for
you to throw out the first pitch? I was up
in the am FI seventy suite and doing the pregame show,
and it was right around my pitching matchup about fifty
five after getting almost fifteen minutes before first pitch, the
national anthem beautifully sung, and there you are walking out
to the mountain. But I did see you warm up

(03:15):
a few minutes before that, I saw you along the
third base line there, Yes, getting some throws in. Yeah,
I got some in.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
It wasn't quite like the warm up I had here
in the studio with the with the tiny little uh
you know, mini mini hand glove that you you were there,
But it was it was great. I got to do it,
had had a great I got to meet show Hey
for the first time.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Never met him, did you really? I got it. Got
a great pick with show Hay. So I thought you
were joking when you told me that you no today,
never never met him till yesterday. You know it. I
don't live here. So where did you see him? In
the tunnel? Okay?

Speaker 4 (03:47):
So what happened was her? You know, the whole thing
was throwing out the first pitch. The game was almost
you know, it was second secondary worse. So Sosh and
I threw out the pitch. You know, I saw people
going for the exits after that, I mean it was
over right. Well, you saw my tail lights. I was
out of there they were. I mean, that was it.
The people are showing up for the first base and
so after the first pitch, you know, the catchers come up,

(04:07):
shake hands, you get.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You had Miguel Rojas, but I had cold Glove nominee Miguel.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yes, great dude, by the way, great dude. And so
after that, we're walking to the dugout and popping out
of the dugout like they just announced his name to
run out to the line. Oh tani, whoa, and he
came over. Whoa, shuitt cans. He was showing difference for
the people that came before him as part of their tradition,
and he came right over. Great handshake, nice and firm.

(04:33):
Big dude. Yeah, he was really cool. We talked about
stocks and bonds a little bit. I told him to
keep his shoulder in and you know it worked out.
First time up triple After the game, did you see
the signal from third base? Thank you three? Thank you three?
And you know he you know, he's a little advice
of game.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
But what okay, he doesn't pop out for anybody. He
popped out, dude. I've been to many a Dodger games
since he's been a Dodger, and seeing the pregame ceremonies,
I've seen my share. First pitch is being thrown national anthems,
the dignitaries that are out there the former players that
are out there, the celebrities that are out there. I

(05:09):
I don't remember. It was almost in slow motion. I
mean that's the way it came. Aywatch s right, you know,
just running on the beach, right, but walking.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
It was almost like Phoebe Kate's coming out of the pool,
cousin Phoebe. Yeah, you know, and and and in that
slow motion with the bathing suit on and everything fast
times the Ridgemond hak exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's embarrassing talking about it in family gatherings, but it's okay.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
But you know, and so you know, he pops out,
comes over and hand extended before he got to me,
hand extended.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Before he got it was it was great. I'll never
forget it in your mind. Is it also slow motion? Like,
my gosh, this is showy. I don't want to hurt
his elbow.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
You're you're a strong, kind of a large man, but
I don't want to hurt it too hard.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
So he's his hand too tight almost. It's like when
you shake hands with the lady. You give them what
they give you. You don't squeeze their hand too hard
because that's rude. Right, It's just like showing him not
saying he's a lady, of course. But I mean that's
that's why you know, that's a lot of donuts are
paying this dude seven hundred million. I mean, I'm not
going to shake his hand off, right, I'm gonna be
easy with the with the guy. Did he go fist

(06:11):
bump first, No, No, he went deep into the clutch
of the hand and a nice firm shake.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
I was I was great, brother, I like that. Yeah,
good dude, loved it and it was a it was
a great time. Did he express.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Any words to you or is it just the universal
handshake meant like, hey, I respect you.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yes, like I said, dude, you know, hey, shoulders got
to stay in. You know, he tuck it down there
a little bit, you.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Know, mention unlocking the hips at all.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
No, No, but but he he did speak English to me.
He did speak, of course, you know English, he does.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I can't. I can't speak Japanese. But but he did
speak English to me. At the end of the show,
I think I'll unveil what he said. Okay, yeah, all right,
so we got that to look forward to as long
as as well as Steve's keys. At the end of
the show, we're here till nine o'clock this morning. We
appreciate you being with us as the Dodgers victorious yet today,
Yet again, they just keep on rolling here in October,

(07:04):
now up three games to nothing in this best at
seven NLCS. But the series is not over. The door
has not been slammed yet on the Milwaukee Brewers. They
still have got life in them, and you do not
want to wake this team up. With Game four coming
up tonight out of Dodger Stadium. And wouldn't you know it,
the guy who Steve Sacks shook his hand yesterday, probably
to give him strength, probably to just bring the energy

(07:26):
from Steve right into show Ayo Tani kind of that
that moment they touched hands. I think it made a difference. Yeah,
he'll be on the mountain tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
He's Hey, how about how fast that dude is getting
out of the box again.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I believe you gave him the speed by just touching
him hand. Probably added a step or two. I think
it did the triple down line. He was out in
front a little bit. That's a double if he doesn't
touch your hand.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
I wish people could just watch him and they look
at him and they think, okay, he's kind of fast,
you know he's but man, you get there on the ground,
he is blazing. He's one of the fastest guys in
the league. Big dude with big stride, Big big dude
that's completely athletic. And he made glides.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
It's not like it's a heavy thump.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Reminds me of the way he runs like Kirk Gibson.
Kirk Gibson was one of the fastest guys. As a
matter of fact, Kirk Gibson came out of college at
Michigan State. He was one of the he was the
fastest guy in the combine. Uh you know before before
the draft. Crazy he could. I saw Kirk Gibson score
from second base on passball no way? Oh yeah, right
in Dodger Statium. I was watching it. I was on

(08:28):
the team.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
I mean, I guess in my mind and maybe a
lot of Dodger fans minds, you just picture Gibby in
Game one the eighty eight World Series, hobbling around the bases,
and it's like, Okay, older kid, Kirk Gibson late in
his career, bad neet, that's what you remember. You don't
remember the speedster.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Oh, younger Kirk Gibson, one of the fastest guys I've
ever seen in baseball.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
He just I mean blazing speed. Yeah, okay, and that's
what Otani reminds me. Otani leads off the bottom of
the first with a triple. Dodger Stadium was electric at
the point. Good on you, Dodger fans, a three to
zero eight first pitch. We told you get out there early.
You were there for the first pitch to fly over.
It was a great crowd for three o'clock on that afternoon. Yes,

(09:09):
and it just kind of filled in. And you know,
the narrative on National TV not to go on a
soapbox here, but I am for a minute, go ahead
a minute. The National TV is gonna do a wide
angle shot and you're gonna get the commentary. It's gonna
be like, look, there's some empty seats up in the
corners of Dodger Stadium in the reserve section. Let me
let me stop you. Right there, the right field reserve
was right in the sun, blazing hot. Okay. If I

(09:33):
had seats there, which I've had seats there plenty of times.
If I were sitting there yesterday, I wouldn't be in
my seat. I would be doing what a lot of
the Dodger fans were doing. Because I walked around the
entire stadium field level, loads level, club level, reserve level
during the game. I like to get different perspectives. When
I was out in the pavilion from left field to
center to right, there's tons of people out there. And

(09:55):
my guess is, which is great on them? They're not
sitting up in the reserve section. They're down there and
joined a nice cold beverage, sure, and watching the games
from the stand around circle bar and just kind of
hanging out, watching on the monitors, kind of watching from
the outfield, which you can do with just on an
elevated platform. It's a great view. So the game was
sold out, The game was packed, just because you see

(10:16):
some empty seats in the reserve section. It's hot up there,
yes it is.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
And and another thing you get, you get a little
bit of that jealousy from the national audience, well, the
broadcasters bringing you to the national audience, because remember they're
back in New York where it's stuffy, and you know
it's kind of.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Cool down around some parts of America. Yeah it is,
and so you see it out here. It's beautiful. It's gorgeous.
Jealous Dodger Stadium is a gem. It's still one of
the most beautiful ballparks in all of baseball, and say, yeah,
I mean they get a little little jealousy maybe going there.
I mean, what a glorious day. You got the American
flag in center field, a great rendition of the national anthem,
a great first pitch ceremony, both teams lined up for

(10:54):
the ceremonies pre game to introduce the teams. Is the
first game at Dodger Stadium in this series. And then
the game starts off with a great one two three
for Tyler Glass Now the bottom of the first inning,
the leadoff triple Dodgers take a one nothing in the lead.
Then it turned into a really good pitching break game.
Tyler Glass now was really good. He was phenomenal, if
not for the first two games performances with Blake Snell

(11:16):
and the Oshanoba Yamamodo, we're talking about what a really
good pitching performance it was from Tyler Glass Now yesterday,
even though he didn't get the win and didn't factor
in that him and Jacobzeroski, the miz right, that was
toe to toe. That young man over there has got
some huge future. That was the miss pre All Star
break that we saw yesterday. He got it.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
And the thing about that is, you know, you throw
everything you got at the dot. That's everything you got
right there. That's most of it. Okay, that's the big
that's the nucleus. And then after that, you look up
and you see the body language of the Brewers and
it's like, geez, we gotta do this every game. We
got to face a number one every time. We just

(11:57):
saw our best dude at him and we're still locked
up with them, you know what I mean. We can't
get anything ahead. But these guys are looking over at
the Dodgers and they're thinking, we gotta face this every
single day. We got to face the number one. Most
teams him are looking to find a one to two
or three on the team. If you got two number ones,
you're ecstatic.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
They got four. Okay, this is crazy. You could see
yesterday why people are excited about miss Roski though, and
you can see why there was some buzz about him
going to the All Star Game and him being one
of these young arms, like a Paul Skins that we
could be talking about for a long time. That's pretty
electric five innings. He allowed the two runs eventually on
three hits, struck out nine through seventy three pitches, fifty

(12:38):
one for strikes. He gave them everything Pat Murphy and
that Brewers team needed to stay in this series as
long as they could try to get a winning game three.
I like his future certainly. But him and Glass now
for that second inning through the fifth, sixth, yeah, it
was back and forth, strike out, wipeout pitches. The fans

(13:00):
were waiting anxiously for the Dodgers to do something offensively.
But from a baseball perspective, these two guys, big dudes, Yes,
go in toe to toe. It was like a heavyweight fight.
It was.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
And miss Rowski, you know what I like about him
when he came off the came off the field, when
he you know, thwart at a rally, I forgot what
he was. But he comes out and he and he
gives it the old you know, the fist up in
the air like an upper cut punch.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
He was fired up.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Yeah, Yeah, I like he's got a little bit of
that you know what in him, and that's what you
got to have. And that young man's got got a
huge future. I think it's it's notable that, you know,
the the Brewers started off with Ashby Okay, it seems
that they're trying to, uh you know, construct the the
the the pitching staff against the Dodgers to to eliminate
or try to mitigate whatever, uh you know, Otani can do.

(13:46):
And when you do that, you're affecting uh, you know,
the rest of the team. The problem is, it's it's
a positive for of course, for all the right handed
hitters on the team. They're looking their chops, they're trying
they're trying to kind of mitigate what Otani and Freeman
can Unfortunately didn't turn out that way for him.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, you start a left hander just to go after
Otani because you figure he's got four bats against you
in a baseball game usually right, sure, if you can
eliminate him in the first step bat. Yeah, you now
got to face Otani three more times in a playoff game.
You think you like your chances. But as you mentioned,
what about the guy behind him in bed who ended
up driving him in by the way to give a

(14:23):
one to nothing lead. And how about after that, you
get Freddie Freeman, you get a Will Smith, you get
a max month, you get a taoscar Hernandez. Oh oh no,
then you get a key k Hernandez. Mister October the
line Oh, Tommy Edman, the Rain and NLCS had a
huge hit yesterday. He's starting to heat up here October
like he did a year ago. And then it's like
the nine hitter. Oh great, always a threat now with

(14:44):
Andy pie has even though your production is not there.
My goodness is the guy who can take you deep
and it hits you five hundred feet and then it's,
oh my gosh, it's back to the top of the
lineup again. This is exhausting.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
And oh, by the way, we started out Lefty on
Otani and we gave up a triple, so that didn't
work out too well either. It was just constantly grinding
on you, you know, and I know we're gonna get this
to a little bit later. Tim, we're just kind of
throwing things out out today in the beginning. But how
about the play months he made at third base below
dive the spin in the same motion throws a bullet strike.

(15:16):
It was Smith at Hope play and you're out of there.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
It was a possibly game saves even play for Max
Munsey with a runner on third base, the infield drawn
in and the Brewers knocking on the door with an
opportunity to try to bust this game open. Take a
lead in this game against the Dodgers. Who knows, maybe
that opens the door for them to get back into
the game. And Max Munsey makes an absolute stellar play

(15:42):
at third base to get the runner at home, to
get them off the thread of scoring and to keep
the game where it was at for the offense. Then
to get after Miserowski. We talked about the Brewers in
this series, right, good pitching, a great defense, uh, very
good at getting on base, and when they get on base,
they are threats and they cause havoc and they put

(16:03):
pressure on the opposing pitcher. Well, here's the problem. The
Dodgers are playing electric defense, so anytime anybody even gets
on base, the Dodgers defense is neutralizing them. But then
the on top of that is when the Brewers get
on base, they're not getting on base, and that's that's
their game. And if you eliminate that part of their offense,

(16:24):
they don't have a threat for the deep ball.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
No no, and they can't. You can't steal first base,
so you have to have to earn that, and I
think one thing that was a a kind of real
painful thing to watch if you're a Brewer fan is
you know, they they thrive on their defense and whatnot,
and they were they were doing really well there early
until your Rebay had to pick off play in the
second inning. No, it was a first inning you had

(16:47):
to pick Was that the first inning or was that
the that was the sixth inning? The sixth inning, right,
and it's you know it's locked up, right, and he
makes the bad pick over the first base scores a run.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Freeman scores to give him a three to one lead,
which was he That.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Was a big, big misnomer for them, So I mean,
not a misnumber.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
That was a big terrible play. That's awful to throw
the ball down the right field line when you've got
the insurance run in an already close two to one game.
You're knocking on the door, you're trying to get into this.
You're down to your final asses seven ounce offensively, and
Reba comes in and he's been kind of a stinker
all series long. Good arm, you can tell, oh, very lively,

(17:28):
electric everywhere. He's all over the map, but he's all
over and then he throws it down the first base
line and Freddie Freeman literally walks into home exactly. And
what was a two to one game, all of a sudden,
it's a three to one game. It's the bottom of
the six. You're feeling pretty good about the last nine
outs of a ball game. When you looking down the bullpen,
you're like, oh, fresh arm, fresh arm, fresh arm. Haven't

(17:49):
seen him yet even pitching the series. Fresh arm. Yeah,
I feel pretty good about where this Dodger's bullpen is at.
But what a great win for the Dodgers yesterday. Electric atmosphere.
The Dodgers scored early, the Brewers did answer back against
Tyler Glass now and got back to tie the game
one to one. It was a great pitchers matchup, back
and forth between the two big right handers, and then

(18:10):
the Dodgers in the sixth inning. Tommy Edmund, Tommy Tanks,
as they call him, the raining NLCS MVP this year, again,
bothered by the same nagging ankle injury for a lot
of the season, never got going offensively slowly. Here in
October in the wild card round the DS, We're starting
to see Tommy Edmond emerge again as that great utilized

(18:32):
switch hitter that they have at second base. And yesterday,
with one out and a runner at first and second,
he was able to deliver with a base in up
the middle. And by the way, talk about the defense
of Milwaukee Brewers, that's a ball that's kind of a
flare in a center field just gets in the green grass.
Will Smith's that second with one out, Will Smith kind
of he did a secondary towards third, then he spun around,

(18:55):
didn't know if it was gonna fall or got caught.
You gotta read it caught in no man's land, but
then spun around again once he saw it was gonna fall,
and took off towards home. And Din, I'm watching this
as it happens to him, Dino Ebel to dodge a
third base coach is waving him in, and I literally
said out loud to my daughter, I said, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no, And I thought, Will Smith's not the fleet

(19:16):
is the foot right? I mean, the ball's not hard hit.
The center fielder's coming in to make the play. All
he's got to do is throw a one hopper or
a line drive to nail Will Smith, and he's probably
got him by ten feet easily. As it is. It's
a horrible throw. It gets cut off and they throw
it to third to try to get Freddie Freeman, who
slid in safely. Will Smith scored without a throat even

(19:38):
going home. That to me is a changer right there,
because it gave the Dodgers the lead, certainly, But it
was some bad defense by the Milwaukee Brewers. We're so
used to how good they are. A bad throw on
what should be an easier play, now is that different field?

Speaker 4 (19:53):
That was the guy that stopped the home run from Muncie.
He was at the center of the controversy on the
eighth two two, five, seven, five nine six double play
or double play. I don't know how well he throws, Tim.
I know he can go get the ball. I know
he's athletic. I don't know how well he throws. Typically,
the guy in centerfield doesn't have the best arm. The

(20:14):
guy in the outfield that has the best arm is
a right fielder, and then probably the center fielder, and
then the left fielder doesn't have to have the greatest
of arm. But usually it's a center fielder that's kind
of maybe have a short arm, but can really go
get the ball. I'm not sure, how Freelick throws He
Dino read that perfectly, absolutely, and a good throw gets
will Smith. Yeah, it wasn't even a go.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
It was off. It was just and they got cut
off by the first baseman. They tried to get Freddy
at thirty. He slid in safe with this big six
foot six frame, but Freeley's coming in. It's it's a
shallow ball. You got all the momentum. It's one of
those either you completely throw and fall as you throw
to get the momentum going with you. But hey, the
Dodgers benefit from it. What you know was Dodgers more

(20:55):
than just home runs.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
You're you're seeing that, oh every game, I mean none
the exactly zippo in the whole game.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Yeah, all the balls flying out of Dodger Stadium. Now, well, yeah,
not so much. We can put to bed that hole.
They're just a slug team. Yeah, all they do is
they do slug. But they are I mean this whole series,
I mean the whole postseason. How many home runs do
they have? They have hit two in the game two
and they had one and three for the whole time.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Yeah, and basically a non existent Otani in the and
the the leadoff spot.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
And yeah, here they are. Otani yesterday two more strikeouts,
one for four of the leadoff triple, Freddie Freeman, oh
for two yesterday with a couple of walks. Dodgers yesterday
drew fifteen strikeouts. So yeah, you think in your mind,
you think a Dodger team that strikes out fifteen, because
I've seen a lot of this happen this year. They're
they're a team that you know, strikes out a lot
in games. And when you see a fifteen in the strikeout,

(21:50):
probably some home runs with it. Yeah, no, but you're
also thinking probably a loss. You strike out fifteen of
your twenty seven outs. Yeah, yeah, a lot. That's probably
a loss. You know, maybe a couple of home runs,
but that's about it. But hey, they pull away with
a three to one win.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Were stuck out twelve. So it was that kind of
game again. Picture's due that that class.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Now Missanowski back and forth for four plus almost five innings.
It was a lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
See let me tell you too, is a former hitter
facing a guy like Glass. Now, I mean, people are
talking about all the time Otani and they're talking about
what Roki did and all that and very very well
that they should. But I'm telling you that glass Now
might have the nastiest stuff of all those guys. Because
he's thrown from a six foot eight frame. His arm

(22:36):
angle is different. He's got a lot of leverage. He's
lengthening out there, extending before he lets go with the ball.
This guy is really hard to figure out. And then
he drops that twelve six curveball on you. That's filthy,
So good luck with that.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
He said it a couple of days ago in the
air and Petro's some money. We're talking about yesterday, and
Petrol has jokes. He said, I heard Steve see this
a couple of days ago. Glassnow is so big. But
when the time he release that, he's almost tickling you. Yeah,
he throws the baseball. That's how close he is, yes
to home point.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
When he throws, it's a I mean, you can imagine
a guy that's six' eight then you're on top of the.
MOUND i, mean it's it's a way different angle than
facing the normal. Guy sixty one six.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Two you know today we're gonna see show hey O
tani up on the mound for game four eight sixty
six nine eighty seven two five. Seventy we got a

EL A. Sports It's sax And kates in the am
here on This friday. Morning they should being with Us Southern,
California Tim kats along With Steve, sacks as The dodgers

(24:43):
one went away from punching their ticket to A World.
Series game four this afternoon at A Dodger. Stadium dodgers
seeking their FIRST nlcs sweep in franchise, history which is
unbelievable as they had a three to zero lead on
The cubs in twenty. Seventeen they are unbelievable here in the,
postseason especially with their. Pitching six and one are their

(25:06):
Starter steve six and one with a one fifty FOUR
era and a one thirty four batters average. Against. Wow
we talked about how the big four The dodgers offense
they could thump with the best of, them and all
the home runs they hit and runs they. Score it's
starting pitching AND i just. Laugh and my daughter was
with me at the game yesterday and she, SAID i

(25:27):
don't remember this last. Year these guys pitching this, WELL i,
says because they weren't around a lot of these. GUYS i,
Mean otani wasn't. Pitching yamamoto was the only the only
starter they. Had Jack flaherty was here last year they,
acquired But Tyler glassnew wasn't a part of this postseason.
Run they were relying On Clayton kershaw for a lot
of it last. YEAR i, said it was all the. Bullpen,

(25:47):
yeah that's what got him through Last. October and it's
just it's it's amazing to see this team completely different
now and relying on starting pitching and deep starting pitching
into the. Postseas and then you look at the other
al'll see us The Toronto Blue. Jays down. Two they
give the ball To Shane, bieber Veteran Cy Young award.
Winner what? Happens good. Things they win a game last,

(26:09):
Night Max Scherzer Cy Young award, winner probably gonna be
A hall Of famer when it's all said and. Done
and what, happens he has a really good outing goes
into the sixth inning and The Blue jays win the.
Game starting pitching turns out pretty valuable for a.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Team, yeah the way they devise the, game the way
they developed the game is starting to show through pretty.
Good these guys are pretty, Smart. TIM i want you to,
elaborate if you, can for a second for our. Listeners
what happened With Max. Scherzer you, know you know he's
got some. Cloud this guy's is going to The hall Of,
fame no question about. IT i want you to tell
everybody what happened when the manager came out to give

(26:44):
him a talk and maybe a, spanking or if it
wasn't that he was going to take the ball and
get him out of the. Game what Did scherzer say
to his?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Manager, yeah last night The mariners and The Blue jays
up in The Pacific. Northwest Max, schurz as we, mentioned
was on the mound and they needed him to deal
so they can at least tie this game and get
back into. It, well what. Happened seattle scored, Early they
scored a run in the bottom half of the second,
inning and that place was going crazy At Safego. Field
but The Blue, jays like they have done all season.

(27:14):
Long they did in The yankees. Series coming, back they
just won't go. Away and they scored three in the
top of the, third they scored four in the top
of the. Second Vlad guerrero had a home run late
in the. Game their offense just absolutely. Erupted, Meanwhile Max
schurzer was fantastic on the. Mound and late in the
game When schurzer was out there, Pitching Bryan, schnyder the

(27:34):
manager of The Blue, jays came out And schuzer was
laboring a little bit out there on the, mound And
schneider goes out there to talk to, him And Max
schurzer didn't want any part of. It whoa basically told
him to turn around and go back to the dog
in a Politer but Yet Max schurzer, way and he's
a very hot headed. Guy he's got a, GOOD i don't,

(28:00):
know mentality about. HIM i THINK i, like at least
one he's on the. Mound he's got that, bulldog he's
got that that fierce attitude out there on the, mound
WHICH i. Love he doesn't want to come out of the.
GAME i, mean he's not one of these. Guys it's, like,
OH i made my. Mess somebody else pick it. Up he,
He i'll do, It he'll do. It And Bryan snyder
looked at, him surezers barking at. Him snyder turns right
back around and wouldn't you know, It Max schurzer got

(28:23):
himself out of the gym and The mariners lose the.
Game The Blue jays tacked on more runs and they
go on to win the game last, night eight to.
TWO i love. IT i love seeing the starting pitcher out. There,
yeah want is it and fight for? It, yes that
that's what you. Love and that's that's what makes the
difference between The Hall hall Of famer and they also.
Ran imagine if You're, Schneider you're going out, There you're

(28:44):
gonna talk to him and you're gonna kind of school
him on what's going on and maybe take him out,
again probably take him out of the. Game you're the.
Manager you're the.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Manager, yeah and you're and you're looking Up max's sixty.
Three he's pretty, big. Dude schneider's looking at, him and
he's got one brown eye and one blue looking back at.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
You weird, fierce.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
Looking like you, know like A i don't, know like
a like a caged animal out, THERE i guess she'd,
say and he basically tells him to shove and go
back to the dug.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
OUT i got, THIS i, think is what he. SAID
i think he read his. UP i got this.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
Right SO i know more than and he. Does he
knows more than. Him he knows how he's. FEELING i
think a lot matters on on the you, know what's
your pitcher and catcher are saying when you go out
there and make that, Change and you, Know max summed
it up for him pretty. FAST i got, this go
back and he was, Right.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Yeah he told. HIM i got. THIS i Mean Max,
schurzer during the final month and a half of this,
season had not pitched. Well his final six starts of
the regular, season he had AN era of. Nine he
had twenty five runs in twenty five. Innings he hadn't
pitched At september twenty, fourth a span of over three.
Weeks he was left off The Blue jays roster for

(29:52):
The alds against The. Yankees this is a forty one
year old, who quite, frankly you're giving the ball to
it a hopes that he can find himself of ten
years ago and find something dig deep down and get
just something that you need to get back into the.
Series and he left him out, there and he let
him fight out of a situation and he went five

(30:13):
and two third, innings struck out. Five he left it
out there on the, line and it was fantastic for
The Toronto Blue jays and their bullpen was.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
Great two champ and was three and a third of
shut down After max did he did come out at
five and two thirds. Innings, nonetheless the bullpen came in
there and just you, know throttled down anything that they
were thinking about picking. Up and three and the third
innings of just shut down. Ball pretty good.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Bullpen the incident happened in the bottom half of the
fifth and he a runner on first two outs in
a tight, game and The seattle lineup had just turned
over here again one of these all of these things
third time, through, yes exactly though the lineup's coming back
to the. Top, uh go the. Bullpen he can't face him.
Again and that's When schneider came. OUT i, Said Bryce, snyder,

(30:59):
Sorry John snyder comes out of the, dugout and he
had every intent to pull him out of the. Game
and to his, credit he looked at him she'ser, said,
WHOA i got this and left him out there to
get out of his own mess there in the fifth.
Inning as it turns, out he go back out to
the sixth and get two outs before going to the.
Bullpen so, yeah h credit To John schnyder for using

(31:19):
his gut. There, yeah and so's, Right, Okay, hey the
numbers tell me to pull him and not too you,
know too much ego there where he is going to
turn around and walk. Back that's a long, walk, Man
that is a long walk back to the dugout after
your player just told you to shove and get back.
There And i'll figure this. Out that's a long. Walk

(31:40):
but you know, what he did the right, thing and
his player's respect him for. It what happens to a backfires, Though,
yeah what happens Of randy Rose areno comes up and
that turns into a crooked number and in that inning
for The mariners and they.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Get back into the game And John schneider's on the bench,
Right imagine if The cameron centerfield is looking At John
schneider on the, bench nobody around, him his hands out
pleading and yelling at sures ARE.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
I told you? SO i well in the. Postgames in the,
postgame you you have to imagine the first question is
what do you regret leaving him out?

Speaker 4 (32:13):
There?

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Then and you have to answer all those. Questions and
who knows where the series. Goes who knows where that
game would have. Gone last, night in the bottom half
of the fifth, inning with a runner on in two,
Outs Randyo roserena comes. Up if he hits a home,
run two runs up on the, board they're back into this.
Game it could have. Gone it was a pivotal direction
with the left does it go? Right which way is
this fork in the road going to go For Max.
Schurzer but he got himself out of. It he did

(32:36):
eventually go get him in the sixth. Inning AND i
guess when he went out. There schneider this time jogged
out to the. Mound didn't want to walk a long
walk at, there And surezer yelled whoa when he came
back out, there and some other words as as so
he was he was lobbying to stay in. AGAIN i
think he was mad at. HIMSELF i think he wanted
to get out of that sixth inning with two outs

(32:57):
and And John schnyder, said, no that's. Enough we're going
on the. Bullpen but nearly had eighty seven pitches, THOUGH
i mean he wasn't like he was all tired out.
Whatever forty one he's out, there. Yeaheling you.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Know you know WHAT i can't stand, Though, TIM i
really don't like this is the press thinks think they
have free reign every after every. Game now you, have
you're a. Manager you have to sit there and just
take the. ARROWS i mean that's what leaders. Do you
take the arrows for other.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
People.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
Right but but it's it just gets to be egregious
a little. BIT i, mean these guys just go a
little too. Deep there's seven follow up. Questions it's, like
what is? This you know, WHAT i manage a. Team
you saw what. Happened you, know you don't get to
sit here and barbecue. Me it's not like shrimp on the,
bobby you.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
KNOW i mean you just hammer this guy every. Time
you know what it, is it's the media is looking
for a certain. Answer, yeah they want you to say
they want you to mess. Up, well they want you
to say something so they can write. It, yeah they
can put it in their story and they can make the.
Headlines they know what you they want you to. Say
they want you to say something specific leading, questions, right
and if you don't say it the first time and

(33:56):
you don't answer it that, way, okay follow up to,
That uh, Manager, uh well you phrase it a little
differently in hopes that he'll change his answer and say
it the way you. Want after the second or third,
time you're, Like, OKAY i really need this quote here
from the. MANAGER i really want him to. Say can
you say this for?

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Me?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Yeah it might write it down and give it to. Him,
yeah might as well just do, that because after the
third or fourth, time what do you want him to?
Say he's not going to answer it the way you
want because it doesn't fit the narrative that you're trying to.
Get what he's trying to do as a. Manager goes
back to What David vassa told us. Yesterday When showey
had met the media the day before and they kept
peppering him with, questions And showy it got frustrated with

(34:35):
the same question being asked over and over again in
essence about you, know being a two way, player how
is this affecting your? Offense can you do? It he
was getting tired of, it all, right because the but
the media wanted a certain. Answer The they wanted, yes.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
It's bothered me a little, bit or what, oh LOOK
i look at we're watching shirts her. Chest absolutely give
it to the manager and you know what it's it's.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
It's, okay you. Runner COULD i get back to the
back there in your room before you if you a?

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Whoopen he goes back and sure gave it to a big.
Time but you know another thing too Is Shotani AS i,
said you know the conversation we had before the game
Is i'll let you know. Later but he does Speak,
english and you, KNOW i think he's smart about having the.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Interpreter what's this interpreter's?

Speaker 4 (35:17):
Name we will will well and will is there to
to not to not let some of the words that
can get misconstrued one way or. Another and The english
language has a lot of words that are the same
word that mean different, things as we all. Know and
so he's not gonna let he's not gonna let show
hey say something that will turn. It even though show
he can Speak, english he's, not you, know maybe so

(35:40):
perfect at it where he can't turn the whole narrative
by saying one word that's a little off and so
it's a pretty smart.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Deal, YEAH i, mean all it takes is one word
in a different tense that you're supposed to say, it
and he gets confused and, yeah maybe doesn't say it.
Right then all of a sudden we're talking about, oh
show hey predicted this or show hey. Guys, no, no,
no that's not what he. Said he gets kind of
lost in translation, there and then you, know the tents get,
it gets used. Wrong that's exactly, why exactly, why BUT
i get. It why the the you, know managers and

(36:08):
show a couple of days ago got mad. Again if
it doesn't fit your narrative as a media, member what
you're writing to call? Them you already wrote the, Broadcast
you've already got the script, ready you, say.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
Say they write it, before and then they let me
see IF i can make it fit my. Narrative here
exactly and, uh you know that'sking a different way kind
of said it that, Way so, no just print what he.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Said, yeah let's go To oscar in L. A thanks
for being. Patient you're Always sax And kates and they
am here on a five seventy L a Sports Hi, Oscar.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Hey homieks mister sas. Winos.

Speaker 5 (36:37):
Gentlemen, yeah just you know, what, MAN i called BECAUSE
i wanted to say right now this, year Every dodger
FAN i, know which is every boy in my family and,
friends we're not stressed, out, Man we're not stressed out one.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Year we're enjoyed. This we're enjoying this playoff rocause we're
not stressed, out missed, up just miss them out close
games and stuff like. That but every everybody's come and
we've all been here ready, too so we're just kind
of waiting for The World series now and see what happens.
There but right, now The, Dodgers, MAN i have much to, say,
man other than, That i'm half feeling good Because i'm

(37:12):
not stressed out about, it and we're looking forward to
The World. Series And i'm going For seattle BECAUSE i
want The dodgers to have a hope foot. Advantage so you,
know SO i got this one of, guys and just you,
know that's. All you, guys have a good day Called, dodgers.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
All, right appreciate. It ask your phone. Call that is
important that if The dodgers get The, mariners they get home.
Field if The dodgers get The Blue, jays The Toronto Blue.
Jays we get home, field So games one and two
would be played up At Rogers center In. Toronto and,
again The World series does not start until a week from.
Today so no matter if The dodgers finish this off

(37:46):
at four or five or god, forbid this goes back
To milwaukee early next, Week game one is not until Next.
Friday how about, That, TIM i can see where you're
if you're planning things out months in, advance which they,
DO i get. It you're you're anticipating the four best
teams in baseball playing THE alcs and the N lcs

(38:07):
probably gonna go six. Games seven games gonna be too
evenly matched, Teams so you want a couple of days rest,
then and then The World series starts on A. Friday
but there should, be and they should keep it this, way,
right a built in buffer then in case there's a,
sweep in case it's a five game, series it doesn't
go the length that you think it, is you've got
to be able, to like an, accordingon just kind of

(38:28):
flex things around and move that that game one. Up,
YEAH i think so.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
TOO i mean even moving it up a couple of, days,
right would be much better than waiting Till. Friday that's
too long of a. Layoff it's not it's not fair
for either.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
Team, YEAH i, mean if these these series get over this,
weekend you could easily move Up game one To. Wednesday.
EASY i mean That's, Monday tuesday day. Off, Okay, thursday
that the latest if you want a third day to
have media and have the two teams get you, know
used to being a different whatever time. Zones if it
starts In, Seattle, La toronto Or, milwaukey you, know give

(39:02):
them some time to get accustomed to. That but waiting
Until friday just doesn't make. Sense and this is why
it was a big deal about a month, ago maybe
a month and a half, ago when they announced we're
not moving up the starting day of The World series
no matter, what because people, like wait a. Second in
the last couple of, years we've seen it where you
have and it's been. Beneficial so why are you just you,
know saying now we're not doing. It you're you're hurting.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
Yourself, well you, Know, tim we can go in and change.
Baseball we can make all kinds of different. Rules we
can make these guys come off the field and show
their hands in their gloves like little kindergartens and make
sure there's nothing on that, ball and make all these different.
Changes put a fake runner on there in the tenth
inning like a softball.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Game but, boy we're not moving those games. Up no.
Way wait a, second you've Got i'm. Serious you've got
a guy who is the number two in baseball that
you've known. Forever can't you put a good word? In
can't you text your buddy and, Say, john this is

Speaker 4 (42:12):
Break it, Is i'd, say it is what it? IS
i had. THAT i had a crazy question. Yesterday somebody asked, Me,
hey do you really think The dodgers are going to
try to maybe not win so they cannot have such
a long laugh and maybe win it later? ON i,
said are you? Drunk excuse? Me are you smoking? HASHISH i,
mean what is?

Speaker 2 (42:31):
It you?

Speaker 4 (42:32):
Know you when you can win, it you win, it
and you worry about everything else after, that AND i,
THOUGHT i just, said of course, not that's a ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Question did you do you see the PICTURE i sent
you of the guy wearing The Steve sacks. Jersey uh
is the pink? Jersey there was A U, no it
was a baby there's a pink. JERSEY i. Think so
there was a guy wearing a baby blue jersey and
it Says sacks in the. Back here it is right.
Here i'll show it to you right, now this guy right. Here,

(43:02):
yeah same.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
Guy, Okay, YEAH i was walking, yeah, OKAY i was
walking out of the stadium right And i'm walking out
AND i see this. Guy he's he's a big, man big,
dude big. Dude And i'm walking out in his shirt
is like two aisles wide And i'm walking and it's
The sacks three on, it And i'm, like, really this
dude remember. Me SO i walked up behind him AND

(43:24):
i tapped him on the shoulder and he turned. Around he, said,
Whoa i've been waiting for a long time for you
to come and sign my. Jersey SO i signed. It
he was such a nice. Guy, yeah it was nice
that he had my jersey. ON i, mean that's that
was a long time.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
Ago it's a cool like baby Blue, dodger really. Nice,
yes sacks number three AND i had his son, there
had his family. There it was really cool to meet those.
Guys that is way. Cool he was hanging out on
the club level on it. YEP i saw that AND
i was, Like, god take a. Picture so that's WHERE i.
WAS i was walking. OUT i was parked parked At LOT.
D i was, undercover covert taking the picture up. TOO

(43:57):

taking a. PITCH i Know steve called took a picture of, you.

As, Soon, tim but don't do it too, soon, really, No,
NO i, MEAN i mean there's a lot to spread.
Around but on one sense and on the other on
the other, hand there's you, know there hasn't been a
lot of, offense so it's been. Pitching do you spread
it out through the? Pictures? Uh you, know maybe maybe
it's one collective thing for the starters who have been

(45:00):
absolutely brilliant right. Now SO i think you might just
have to, say you, know, hey let's give it to the.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Starters i'm gonna throw a hypothetical out there for.

Speaker 4 (45:08):
You you want to Say yoshiobu's, name that's what he's
one of, Them he's one.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
Of My let's Say otani goes out there and just
deals today and does what the first three starters have
done in THIS Nlcs dodgers. Win can you give a QUADRUPLE.
Mvp we've had the we've had to try on the
try in the eighty one yea eighty one was on that.
Team we've had co en vps in some series in the,

(45:34):
Postseason but could you make an argument That, Snell, Yamamoto,
Glass now And otani could win quad IN. MVP i
think you think he'd, say, YEAH i, mean can you
make a case for.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
That you can't really believe one of them out because
they've all done the same, thing, Right and and you're
talking about four number ones on the, team which is extremely. Rare,
uh you'd have to go back to maybe nineteen seventy sixty,
nine maybe with The Baltimore orioles had four to twenty game,
winners remember those. Guys, yes this is like the closest

(46:10):
THING i can think to that because no team has
four number. Ones it doesn't. Exist and you, KNOW i
haven't seen. That you'd have to go back what year
is that? Team nineteen seventy sixty.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
Nine i'm just looking. Up there's never been a QUAD
mvp in any. Sport, wow there. Is there's never been
a QUAD mvp in, Baseball so it would be the
first time. Ever is telling, me, yes there's been a,
try we know that eighty. One there's been co, MVPs
but never four players to win THE. MVP i guess
you couldn't really do, that, right that's defeating the purpose

(46:44):
of having one player named The Most Valuable. Player you
couldn't have Most valuable players and at least four of,
them but it'd be hard to, separate especially If otani deals.
Today which one gets THE, mvp which one. Doesn't, yeah,
series so you got to go back to nineteen seventy
one before you get the four. Guys you Got dave,
McNally Jim, Palmer Mike quaar And Pat Dobson boom a

(47:08):
little bit before my. Time, yeah, well, yeah you were
just Little. STEVIE i was. ELEVEN i was That.

Speaker 4 (47:13):
Boom, YEAH i was eleven years. Old who does this?
Jingle it's my favorite.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
ONE i love. IT i have it in my head
during the. Day it's LIKE i can't get it. Out.
Tupac really everybody knows Is? Tupac?

Speaker 4 (47:24):
Right i'm liking. It whatever it, IS i dig, it you. Know,
Okay so McNally twenty one, Games palmer twenty, Games quaar twenty,
games And Pat dobson had Twenty oh can you imagine
that four guys had twenty.

Speaker 2 (47:37):
Games it's never gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
Again AND i think they had something Like Jim palmer
told me, this who was a genius at recalling. Things
he's eighty years. Old he said it was something like
seventy something complete. Games oh my, gosh that's is that?

Speaker 2 (47:51):
Crazy between the four never gonna happen, Again no, ever
not even the wildest dream will that. Happen one hour,
down two to. Go we're already starting to. THINK i
THINK mvp of THE. Nlcs last Year's RAINING mvp Was
Tommy edmond at a big base hit, yesterday give The
dodgers a. Lead they go on to win three to.
One your phone calls when we come, back you're gonna
hear From Dave roberts as, Well Rookie, Susaki Mookie, Bets David.

(48:14):
VEASSE a lot to get, into and we got a
pair of tickets as part of Our Surf SIDE Mlb
Network prize back game tickets To game four, tonight possible
close that, Game dodgers And, brewers right here IN nfi

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
