Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now an exclusive interview with David Bassey for Dodger Talker. Well,
it's always fun when you find a big leaguer that
loves the hobby of baseball cards.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
As much as you do.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
And Will Climb, one of the newest Dodger relievers, was
spotted at a local baseball card shop in the San
Fernando Valley. So Will Climb is here joining us. Will
thanks a lot for the time, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, thanks for having me. You know, when you.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Start pitching for the Dodgers on this stage and you
have that beard, you can't just walk into any baseball
card shop and not be recognized.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
No, you're true, although a lot of times they go
for may or Kopek not. I don't get a lot
of clients yet, but yeah, it's it's hard not to go.
You look, you look familiar, and then they're like, oh shoot,
you know, and so that's you kind of get found
out quick.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
How quickly did it take for you to be spotted?
Speaker 4 (00:52):
So I'd messaged them and the owner and like we
kind of set that up ahead of time.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
But a couple of the employees in there like, like
you you look familiar, Like are you will Klein. I
was like, oh yeah, yeah, like.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
You know, like that's one most of the times, you know,
it's still dustin, but he know trimmed his hair a
little bit, so we're getting less of that, but you know,
it was it was kind of kind of cool. But yeah, yeah,
i'd uh talked to like the owner and and kind
of got like a little tour of that set up
ahead of time.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
So baseball cards are something that we expect fans to love,
but not necessarily the actual baseball players. Is this a
recent you got back into it or you never lost
the kid in you?
Speaker 4 (01:33):
I don't ever lost it, you know, like grow up
collecting you know, Pokemon baseball cards and dad collected and
stuff like that, and then you get a little bit
more adult money or like you know, what what did
I like doing when I was a kid, And then
you know, we got back into Pokemon cards and then
like with baseball, you're playing so many guys who are
(01:54):
looking for teammates, looking for like guys you played with
coming up and stuff and like collecting their cards, collecting
your cards, and so I just think like trying to
get people, you know, like definitely makes it a little
more interesting. So that's that's kind of where we refound that.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
When you open up baseball card packs or Pokemon packs,
doesn't it feel like Christmas?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Every time?
Speaker 4 (02:12):
It does until you don't get what you're looking for
and then you go buy more.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
What are you looking for?
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Will Climb?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
I'm like, like I said, I'm looking for uh, you know,
myself and guys I play with, uh, you know, try
to get like even just base cards, like of teammates
and go get him to sign it and stuff like that.
And then Pokemon my wife likes find all the cute ones.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
So that's what we're.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Looking for there, just something like, oh, that's cute, let's
put in the binder.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
You know, have you found a Hayes Song Kim baseball
card yet?
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Oh? I've got I've got some Kim as you.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
He's right behind us there he is.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I've got a I've got a black out of seventy
four Kim WHOA sent to my mom's house.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I gotta give him a sign.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Very rare, have you? So you haven't asked him to
sign the baseball card yet?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
I don't. I don't have it on me yet, but
one of the one of these days I'll get.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Him he's got a lot of swag. Does he have
those glasses on when he's in that baseball card?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
He's got a couple of good poses though, I'm not
sure what, like if he's got the glasses, but he
got he's got something with the bat like up in there.
He's got some good cards out there.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I need to get. I need to get some more camps.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Will Klein is our guest in front of first pitch
between the Dodgers and Twins. You know, I found a
Bob Garan baseball card from nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Will.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
I took a picture of it and I sent it
to Bob. Can you believe the picture of the player
is not Bob Garan? It's not oh my eighty eight
tops er, right, Bob Garan, who's sitting right next to us.
What's the story behind that baseball card?
Speaker 5 (03:33):
They just wanted to find somebody better looking, so they
just picked anybody.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Hey, Bob, Will Klein, here's a baseball card collector. That's
why we're on the topic of cards. And I had
to share that story.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Okay, all right, I didn't know that, Will.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
That's good for you.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Bob Garran. Cards looking the twenty five cent box.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah, they got a lot of those.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I'm sure much.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Inflation heading hard, Bob Garrett hsult be one cent another quarters.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Hey, Bob, since you're sitting here, do you have anything
good to say about Will Klein?
Speaker 5 (04:05):
He works hard, He's very diligent about what he does.
He went out PfP today and put on a show
all perfect throws, and that's what I expect.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Young big will love it.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Love it, Bob Garran, look for his card nineteen eighty
eight tops, it's not his picture.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Will kleinb what's it been like for you coming.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Out of the Dodger bullpen and being a piece that
maybe we don't know about right now, but obviously the
Dodgers have the track record of making guys like you
a household name.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
I mean, it's definitely makes you, you know, it makes
you feel, you know, wanted a little more special. When
you know some other teams don't want you and then
they go out and get in, You're like, all right,
what's the Dodgers? You know, they see they see something
and so you know, working with Connor and Pryor and
Bardo and all of them like have has really helped
(04:59):
different alley each way, like just throwing more strikes and
adding some varieties a little more, and you know, just
like having those guys behind you, like believing you and
other guys around like how they like carry themselves and
stuff is like definitely helps, especially with you know, all
the guys we have in the locker room, and so
seeing that and then being a part of that makes
you feel like that yourself. And you know, running out
(05:21):
of that bullpen with this place packed cheering for you
is pretty sick. So that that definitely instills a little
like confidence, a little swagger too, And so it's it's
been different than you know, past experiences, and you know,
we're having fun.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
So love it.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Will client stick around long enough so we could collect
a Will Climb Dodgers baseball card.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
That's the dream. I don't I need another one this year.
I haven't.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
I think I had one heritage, but I haven't. I
didn't make tops Crown, which is sad. But yeah, the
Will Cline Daughters card go sick. I try to rainbow
that one.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Will great talking to you and we'll check back in
with you a little bit later in the season about
how the card collecting is going Thanks a lot for
the time, Thanks for having me
