I'm at Fallout of May. He's at KFI one at
FNA show on Facebook, Instagram and x bri Uh, what's
your handle?
Speaker 4 (01:13):
It's Bree Denise twenty six twenty six for Kyle Korver
NBA Legend, NBA three point Hall of Famer.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
The best ever?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Is there a three point Hall of Fame that I'm
not aware of?
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Adam?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Adam, you follow the NBA as closely as anybody that
I know. Is there a three point Hall of Fame?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I don't think he'd get in when he shot eight
percent for the Cavs in twenty eighteen in the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Putting them in there. I'll tell you that Lebron's like
I could have bricked that.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I'll put him in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Hall
of Fame because that face of his morph just like
angels did as he got older, just looks weird. The
milk's gone bad.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
You can't you can't even deny it. Br you know
it's gotten bad.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
The Dodgers had a great trade deadline, guys. Can we
talk about that?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Right? Ok?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
You?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Trying to reflect on the back end of the show,
I do think we have the return of our most
popular segments, Who's the A Hole? And I don't know
which one of the submissions came in, whether it's from
Bree or from Adam, but they're always.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Be found out.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
We just found out right now, who the a hole.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Is it's you, right, Okay, damn it, No.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
It's Bree. Bree's got a story on who's the A
hole today, probably dating related, as they usually are, but
those are fun stories.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
They are, all right, So we'll get to that in
the back end of the show, time permitting, we'll get
to a voicemail as well before we get into first
off on the Dodgers. Since I saw Adam tweeting about
it the other day, are you coming to the defense
of Steve Kerr when it comes to whether Jason Tatum's
playing or whether Joel Embiid's playing, Because some people are saying, like, oh,
he apologized to the media, but then he's like, I
feel so bad, but it was for matchup issues.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Why do you feel bad?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
And like, so I saw you tweeting about strategically why
it would make sense to put Tatum in or not
put him in?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Like, what is your thought on this whole thing? Since
I know you're following USA basketball pretty close to here.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I didn't have a problem with Jason Tatum getting benched
in Game one against Serbia for Team USA is long
as you're consistent with that, and when guys like Joe
LMBIID are giving you nothing and they lost his eleven
minutes that he only played eleven because he was so
(03:08):
bad against Serbian pretty much throughout the exhibition games. She
was pretty bad too. He just doesn't look right. I
think you're still recovering from aniscus. But when you have
somebody like Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
He's healthy, what do you mean like Kawhi Lendon is
the one who's hurt. He's the one that's running at
usc going up and down the court, doing fine, and
all of a sudden, Joelnbid, all of a sudden he
can't play. Kevin Durant doesn't practice the entire time. Now,
grant it, it's hards a question. He goes eight for eight.
But notwithstanding, I mean, Kawhi Leonard apparently was too hurt
to play for the team. But Lawrence Frank says, by
the way, who's more invested in his future with the
(03:39):
Clippers more than anything than anybody else. He's the one
that comes out and says, Kawhi is fine. Why the
hell is he not on the team? Tylu was on
the bench. That old situation is just weird to me. Oh,
it's completely weird to me. I don't know if it's
I know Jaylen Brown stated there's a Nike thing, and
I know that Kawhi Leonard's a New Balance guy.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Well, and he had that lawsuit with Nike right them
using his claw logo.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
And Kevin Durant is a Nike guy even though he
wasn't healthy enough to practice the entire time. That whole
situation is just very weird to me.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Now you got me triggered a little bit. Sorry, Okay,
I want to focus here for a second. Yes, because
Steve Kerr ended up benching Joe l Embiid yesterday against
South Sudan. Now I'm okay with the Jason Tatum because
he wasn't consistent as long as you're consistent with that
and not playing favorites. And there were rumors out there
(04:31):
that they told Joel Embiid he would be the starter
throughout and that's why he used his national citizenship to
become part of Team USA when he had other options.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Obviously, I thought you're responsible to promise somebody that. But
all right, yeah, I don't like.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
That stuff either. I don't know if it's true or not,
but people speculate about that, sure, But I'm fine with
it no issue. Derek White is a connector. He doesn't
need the ball in his hands. He's been one of
their best players so far. He and Drew Holliday and
huge doing all the little things for them. It's not
like Jason Tatum, though, can't do those little things. He
just did it in the NBA Finals when his scoring
(05:07):
wasn't there. He was rebounding, he was getting steels, deflections,
playing great defense. He was like a superstar role player
at times for them. That's why Jaylen Brown got the
Finals MVP. But I still see the logic, at least
in having Derek White, who might be a little bit
better guarding smaller guys on the perimeter and can still
guard up and his shot has been there. Jason Tatum started,
(05:27):
I think he's zero for eleven on jumpers or something
like that with Team USA. Right now, back to the
Kawhi now, okay, please, now this I don't understand.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
That's a bunch of crap.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Whether or not you want Kawhi Leonard to be playing
in the Olympics given his injury history is one thing,
but it's a bucket listing for him. It sounded like
he wanted to get a gold medal. He was supposed
to be with them in twenty twenty didn't work out,
then this was something to check off his list in
his basketball career. And the only problem I have is
(06:02):
the inconsistency and the seemingly double standard of well, Kawhi
doesn't quite look right and is injured, seemed to be
their logic.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Look right, he's on the court, Kevin Durant sitting down
on the bench.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
And Kevin Durant didn't play any of the exhibition games.
Granted he's made up for more so maybe he earned
the benefit of the doubt, but he hadn't played no
for a month with a cap injury. By the way,
he's a guy who had a cap injury that led
to an achilles injury before. How is he allowed to
stay on the team. And Steve Kerr at this staunch,
(06:37):
you know, support of him, saying like Kevin's gonna be
here no matter what it's like. He's earned it from
prior years with Team USA. I mean Jason Tatum, that
didn't help him at all. He still got benched even
though he was there for them the last two rounds
when nobody else even wanted to play as much Kawhi.
I I find it a little bit interesting, an impossible
(07:00):
double standard. And if you look good and he's ready
to play basketball and he wants to play basketball, he
should play basketball. And he's one of the top four,
top five best players of his generation when you look
at peak. To have him on this team next to
Katie Lebron and Steph I think would be pretty meaningful. Yeah,
(07:21):
So that was curious to see the least.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
When people say that politics don't matter and everything's a meritocracy,
I think you just this is exhibit a that ain't
always the case. Yeah, because I think it's one thousand
percent politics in this particular situation. Kevin Durant grandfathered in.
He's going for fourth gold or third gold, whatever it is.
There's a third or fourth for him.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Was he on two thousand? He wasn't.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
He just missed a cut in No. Eight for Beijing.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
He made it for twelve, so I guess he would
have been twelve, sixteen and twenty twenty slash twenty one.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
So yeah, this will be his fourth.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And he was their leader the last time around. He
was huge for them. They don't win it last time.
For all the people complaining about them in the exhibition
game against Sudan, they only beat him by one. It's like, guys,
remember they lost in Nigeria in the exhibition rounds last cycle,
so it's not the end of the world. They still
went on to win gold and this team overall is
(08:14):
better than that team.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
And by the way, it's called exhibition for a reason. Yeah,
no needs to freak out.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
It weren't taken it.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
But I just wanted to get your take on that
before he did anything else, because I knew you'd have
an impassioned one.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
So no, it's fair. The only thing I could think
is Kawhi said something to the effect of these two
things that may have sent up a red flag. He said,
I had a turnaround a couple weeks before training camp
with Team USA, So that could lead you to believe,
has his swelling been there this whole time? Did he
(08:44):
have a procedure? Nobody knows, because obviously he ended up
missing the playoffs or the majority of the playoffs and
missing the last month of the season. So how long
was he sustaining that injury? How long was that going on?
And then right before their first game against Canada and
the exhibition round on Tuesday. He said something right before
he was let go the next day, and they put
out that pressure release that made it sound like it
(09:05):
was this collaborative effort with the Clippers with TVUSA, which
was not the case. The little pr spin there, but
he said the day before he was let go Kawhi
Leonard that the knee is in a neutral state right
and that could make people think there's warning signs like
he's still monitoring it this closely. To use the words
(09:28):
neutral state, I believe was the exact phrase.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
I don't understand it scaring people off. The problem is
nobody would have more insight into what his health situation
is than Lawrence Frank and for him to publicly basically
come out and say USA Basketball he didn't use these words.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
They lied.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
They said there was this collaborative between the NBA, the Clippers,
and USA Basketball in agreement that Kawhi Leonard shouldn't be
playing right now and he should focus on next season
with the Clippers. And he publicly came out and said,
there's no reason for us to believe Kawi Lenard shouldn't
be playing.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
We want him to play for Team USA. This was
a goal of ours in for his.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Grand Hill drinks right and lies. If it wasn't for
the Kevin Durant situation, where there's an.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Obvious correct that's the thing that makes.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
The addiction going on, I would say, hey, you know,
I guess Kawhi wants to play, but they're not sure
if he's going to be able to play throughout the
entire campaign. I can't see the logic he's coming back
from a knee injury. But then with Kevin Durant not
playing at all and his status being uncertain, and maybe
it was more certain behind the scenes because Game one
(10:30):
he looked good. But yeah, still it's obvious.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
All right. So that's enough of that.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
We weren't planning on talking about Tmuosa basketball, but you know,
we did get to get some basketball, some fn NBA info.
All right, now, let's get the first off and talk
speaking injuries, Let's talk about the Dodgers's time.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
That's wrong, probably following up with the oh money by the.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Knee, talking about the walking wounded uh An insults injury.
He gets swept by the Padres in the two games set.
Clayton Kershaw looks like postings in Clayton Kershaw in his
most recent start he's I think they say he averaged
ninety miles an hour on his fastball, which is which
is BP fastballs for guys these days.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Wait wait, yeah, he got up to ninety five in
his fast ninety nine zero was the average fast surgery.
It worked. How well he got the Rookie of the Year. No, no, no,
he got the snap arm action.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
He only had a couple of swings and misses, did
not record a strikeout for the first time in his
entire career. And if you're at a point in time
where you're relying on Clayton Kershaw to be somewhat of
a savior for the staff, you got major issues.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Four hundred and four games straight, consecutive games with not
having a game where he didn't end the game without
a strikeout. And I think the only time it happened
was when he only tossed one inning back in two
thousand and eight. That was and that really doesn't care.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
I don't know what that situation would have been.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
A strikeout and when we only pitch one damn any
I uh would be a little bit concerned right now,
eighty three pitches and as you mentioned, got two swinging missus.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, two swinging misses.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Now, I'll say this, if you think of this and
we just take the step back, we're going into the season.
The way that this was all thought of was if
and when Clayton Kershaw does come back, he was supposed
to be some sort of added bonus. It was like, hey,
he joins the rotation. Our guys are already rolling. Whatever
we get out of the Kershaw will be excellent. There's
gonna be injuries, there always are. He can come into
the second half of the season and maybe give us
(12:32):
a little bit of a boost. Low risk, high reward.
The terrible part about it now is you're actually relying
on him because you've had so many injuries throughout your
entire rotation, and significant ones. They still don't know if
Yamamoto is gonna come back, which is terrible because he
was amazing, especially his last handful of starts before he
got hurt. That game in New York was electric. Bobby
Miller has been It has been mostly healthy but ineffective
(12:55):
since he came back from the injured list early on
in the season, and everybody else has just has just
just gone down with the rash of injuries. Bueller was
never hasn't been the same since coming back and now
going back down again to work on mechanical issues. Their
starting rotation has been in a world of hurt, to
say the least, literally and figuratively.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I have.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I have never seen a roster, a salary of payroll
this high, with this many guys missing all at once
or just returning not looking like themselves like this is
I don't want to be a panic bro here, no
(13:38):
here we go? Do you even panic bro? But this
is about as alarming with two months left before the
postseason type of situation you could have with the Dodgers
right now, Like, even if you get all these guys,
let's say relatively healthy after a three week period where
(13:59):
three times even less than three weeks, they had three
five run comebacks on them correct, yes, including the game,
not Game two, but game one against you got the
Houston game, the Houston game, and once again.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Dave Roberts pulled out Robleski for some reason I don't
know why.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Afterwards said that was when the momentum changed.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
You don't say, you don't say doc, all right? Even
then he did the same thing the next night. It
gains with the River Ryan. Thankfully they still won. But
my god, come on, Dave, Yes, I screwed up yesterday
and then do the exact same thing essentially the next night.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
He ain't changing. That's a built in concern coming into
the season, Dave Roberts. But now you just had their
rotation only gave them four point eighty six innings per start.
In the month of July, their starters averaged less than
five innings per game. And this is even crazier. You know,
(15:00):
Chicago White Sox. Would they lose about.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Fifteenth straight game seventeen I believe got to seventeen. Yep, Oh,
good for them.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yo, Wait, it's tough to beat.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
The Dodgers in July gave up more runs per game
than the three and twenty two White Sox. In July,
the Dodgers were five point seven to one runs per game,
giving up the White Sox in five point sixty four.
I guess they were pretty damn lucky to still go
eleven and thirteen, right.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Could have been a lot worse. I guess it could
have been. Sure, But let's.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Say everybody starts to get healthy and they all come
together just the right time before the playoffs. Even then,
I still see so many question marks and unknowns for
a team with this high of pay roll. For instance, Glass,
now he.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Has injury concerns, of course, always has.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
But his ERA in the postseason and ten starts as
five point seven two. Yeah, Jack flattery? Is that how
you say it?
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Flarity? Flarity?
Speaker 2 (15:59):
He's got the flair for the for the dramatics. Well,
we'll see in the postseason. But he's already at the
fourth most innings pitched he's ever been at in the season.
I hope he can keep it up and not burnout.
He's getting the start on Saturday. He in the postseason
solid three point six zero ERA and five appearances, four starts. Kershaw, well,
(16:20):
he goes without saying, yeah, we know what he's been
and he was bad when he was at the peak
of his powers in the postseason. So I don't know
what you could expect now, maybe more of what you
saw in game win against the Diamondbacks last year.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
I think your hope is Honestly, at this point, Kershaw
is not even a starter for you in the postseason series.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
He really shouldn't be, and I don't want to see
him coming out of the bullpen either. I don't want
to see this twenty nineteen ridiculousness, where you're trying to
chase some fairy tale story to have Kershaw close out
the series. They're always on this. What was the situation
with the Golden State Warriors. They say they're trying to
work on two timelines. They're trying to work two different
(16:57):
things too often with the Dodgers to me, where they're
trying to be a championship organization and look, there as
talented as anybody out there, and this team is loaded
with talent, a lot of unknown still, but it always
feels like they're serving two masters a little bit, winning
and also enhancing Kershaw's legacy, who continues to fail them
(17:18):
in those big spots. It's almost a blessing and a curse.
Sometimes it feels like with him, yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Well look, if all things are equal, I think they'd
even admit at this point in time, he's not one
of their four best starters when everything is moning's.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Equal, one of the sixth. Oh, they actually had.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Guys, and that's the issue.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Now, Look, if Glass now stays healthy, which for the
most part this season he's been able to, and they
can carry over whatever issues he's had into the postseason
or whatever success he's had this year into the playoffs.
The problem with the Dodgers is there's a lot of ifs.
If Movie comes back, which he will, but will he
be the same Will he be able to pick up
on the MVP ish type first half of the season
that he had before he got hurt? If Max Munty
(17:55):
comes back, does he have time to get his timing
back down to be an effective player? For you know,
if these guys you all traded for your Edmunds and
all these guys who I have even played all season long,
what are you gonna.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Get from him?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
If Momotos, if all this stuff works out, then great.
There's too many ifs for me to have full confidence,
and I know it's only August first to have full
confidence to say the Dodger should still be the favorites
to come out of the National League or second favor
behind Philly.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
I guess yeah, I definitely take Philly even if those
guys are available, though there's certainty with performance stuff like
their best pitcher has been Gavin Stone right, yeah, rookie,
he's gotten twenty three stars under his belt. Zero in
the playoffs. Bobby Miller. You mentioned he's was coming back
from the shoulder issue. It looks like he's lost some
(18:38):
of that confidence ever since he got sheld in Game
two when he should have been going in Game two.
He probably should have been going in Game one after
Kurshark gets blown up and put all the pressure on
him to have to be perfect in that game. To
last season, Riff and Ryan rookie Justin Robleski got pulled
early against the Astros. Rookie two pitches, Yamamoto. If he's
(19:02):
back for the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Cool still a rookie, a major league baseball rookie his
first year. It's a different level of pressure.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Walker Bueller used to be nails in the playoffs. He
used to be a different pitcher than what he's looked
like this season so far. And he's also injured right now.
Like any four pitchers you choose for your rotation, the
playoffs have a range of issues and uncertainty. It's a
nice collection of talent, It's an equal collection of unreliable,
(19:29):
unproven players, no matter how you slice it.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Now.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
One thing I'll say too, I don't know people come
down on the front office by the way they traded
for the best player they could have traded for.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
This just wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
It wasn't a robust deadline of there's too many teams
that are still in it at this point in time.
And I agree with David Assay's like, if you're gonna
have the extra wildcard, you need to push the trade
deadline back so we can have more time to flush
out who was a true contender and who's not. Because
the Major League Baseball trade deadline used to be really exciting.
It was an event to itself, and there are moves,
but there were so many, as Vic would say, and
(20:00):
jets and names are flying off the board. The other
day it was a lot of who this guy? He's
still playing? Never heard of him? If you move the
drade to trade deadline back by a month or even
by about two and a half three weeks, I think
it will be better at that point in time. But
the problem what the Dodgers is, I don't think you
can even blame Andrew Friedman or the front office for
something they did or didn't do in the offseason. I
just think it's an unfortunate set of circumstances that so
(20:21):
many people that you are relying on happen to be injured,
all at the wrong time.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
It's mostly just unfortunate bad luck. I don't blame the
front office. But when you talk about ifs and maybe's like,
just listen to this. If Jack Flaherty, if he stays
hot and continues his career year, perhaps he has put
it all together at twenty eight. Okay, it's possible. Maybe
glass and now pitches better in the playoffs being in
(20:46):
the NL Now.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Okay, Maybe maybe he's found something with you know, being
with the Dodgers, that the ones who call themselves the
fixers and all that.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Maybe Walker Bueller cat recaptures eighty percent of who he was.
Maybe Kershaw can give you a strong four five innings
in a playoff series. Gavin Stone's regular season maybe carries
over into the postseason. He becomes this playoff riser like
Walker Buley was.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Se We've seen it.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
We've seen your Josh Becketts and people have done it
in the past. But I don't know what something you
can rely on.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Maybe River Ryan or Rubleski, they somehow make the playoff roster.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Give you something.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Maybe Bobby Miller finds himself. Maybe I'm Amoto turns out
to be much more clutch of a playoff performer. If
he's back in the States than he was in Japan.
I did a little bit of digging. He was basically
the Japanese Kershaw. Like in Japan, he was known for
(21:41):
not showing up in big moments in the playoffs. He
has one win in five starts in the Japan Series.
From twenty twenty one to twenty twenty three, he had
a reputation of not being that great.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
There.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
It's like, maybe it all comes together for the Dodgers
this time, and everyone's running on all cylinders and performing
at a high level at just the right time with
the most high level situations.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
You can argue that happened for San Diego a couple
of years ago when they made a run to the DS.
You can argue for Arizona last year when they ran
through the Dodgers and made it to the World Series.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Teams with very little expectations though compared to the so
certainly teams can get hot and get healthy, or a
combination of the two at the right time.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
It certainly has happened.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Oh, by the way, who the fuck's their closer?
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Well, I was gonna get to that next.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
I was gonna say, at least you can rely on
their bullpen which has also been terrible. And not only
has the bullpen not been good recently, the guys you
rely on most say for Daniel Hudson, who's been lights
out trying in terrible recently. Evan Phillips horrible recently. Viel Vessia,
who was one of the best I mean borderline All
Star even though he wasn't a closer, has been awful
the last month month. So not only is their starting
(22:43):
rotation terrible, their bullpen is awful. We knew that the
back end of their lineup basically from six through nine
or five through nine, really was horrible all season long.
Considering that they're still in first place, it's actually a revelation,
a miracle that they sit where they sit right now,
considering all the issues that they've had.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
They're really they're four and a half games up, but
it's three and a half because the Padres have the
head to head tiebreaker.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
They've already won it. They've already won this season season series.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Now last night, you can at least say this, Michael
Kopick look great.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Well, he threw one hundred miles an hour's he's always
been able, but they were down seven to one.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
I don't want to take it away from the guy
and look again talking about finding things, fixing guys whatever.
Maybe that's a possibility, and it's another flamethrower to throw
into your bullpen when you need it in the postseason. Great,
they need help right now in their starting rotation and
high leverage situations which has always been locked down for
the last couple of years in their bullpen.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
But there's more ifs.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Brusar Graderol hadn't pitched all season long, so he's on
the comeback trail. You know, Michael Grove come back, I
think by the end of this week. But these are
guys Ryan Brazier who got who started the season and
was horrible, found out he was hurt, hasn't been around
since May. So again, there's lots of ifs surrounding the
bullpen as well as the starting rotation, and that we
could talk about the offense and the af The bats
(24:00):
have gone cold the last couple of postseasons and the
pitching carried them. You're gonna need some big hits, No,
without a doubt, they ain't. No way you're making a
deep run of the postseason If you can't pitch.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
We know that for a fact.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Great pitching overpowers great hitting. It always happens that way, right.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
You rarely ever see teams make it to the World
Series who are winning games ten to eight.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Like, maybe the bats are so good they can hold
up a little bit more on their end if the
pitching is down.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
But here and there, you can't rely on that an
entire series. Though, What about this? If who the hell
is Otani in the postseason?
Speaker 1 (24:33):
We've never seen it. You have no idea he could.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Be a god like Carlos Beltron in two thousand and
five or something like that, or Pud Rodriguez with the Marlins,
or uh, he could catch some of that I don't know,
whatever it is that infected from Mookie then to Freddie
Freeman last year too, some of that cold postseason stuff
that the Dodgers' bats have had, Like if all the
(24:56):
pressure is on him being paid seven hundred million or
whatever is a billion dollars to carry these guys when
they have other superstars and MVPs there and they started
doing the exact same thing they did last year with
Mooki and Freddy Freeman. It's like, I got to carry
these guys even more. That doesn't help Otani. He's into
things in his first postseason.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
One thing I'll say now, Mooki, this goes back to
even twenty eighteen, where he didn't have a good World
Series against the Dodgers and they still won.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Freddie Freeman last year was an aberration.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
He generally is a very good postseason hitter, and for
whatever reason, it just didn't work for him last year.
You think adding Otani with Freddy, with Tejoska Hernandez, who
is I won't say if he's slumping. The problem is
there's more pressure on him now because you don't have Freddy,
because you don't have Mooki and your guy who was
a five to six hitter and who was effective and
parl like that to an All Star. Now all of
a sudden is moved up on the lineup and there's
(25:46):
more his holes are more exposed. If he moves back
into the lineup to where he was before, then maybe
you have something going there. I have more confidence that
Freddy Freeman plays better in the postseason this year than
he did last year, because history would say that he has.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
He's got a body of work. The person I'm worried
about most who also has a track record, and the
person who would take the fall if they should implode
again early on in the NLDS or something is Dave Roberts,
because to me, this situation is perfectly set up for
him to fail because.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
You have to manage so much because there's so much
working against you.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
There's so many options and not enough clear cut obvious options.
It's not oh, we have Arius Bueller, Kershawn, Max Schurz
or those obviously are our guys who are going to
be pitching. You have a lot of guys to choose
from and small sample sizes this year because somebody have
been injured. You can't just go off the analytics. You
have to go with your gut. That's not exactly what
(26:44):
has been the strength of Dave Roberts over time.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Yeah, uh, it's gonna now. The good thing that they
have working in their favor is August first. So you
got two much disorders. Try to figure this thing out,
get guys back healthy, and try to fit guys into
their roles. But I don't know if I'm ready to
panic quite yet, because we're gonna make the playoffs, whether
or not it's a wildcard of the division. I think
they'll still win the division, you know, and once you
get there, like we said a lot of times, you
(27:07):
just you chalk it up to whoever's hot, whoever's healthy,
whoever's playing well. But you want to make sure you
set yourself up in a situation to where you don't
have to grind it out towards the end of the
regular season like they did that year they had Shuzer
and they have to endup beating the giants in the
wildcard round. You want to be able to get yourself
as healthy in a situation as possible going into it,
and right now, again, through no fault of their own,
you can't control whether the guys are hurt or not. Yeah,
(27:28):
they're just in the bast situation.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
They have a collection of talent that could form a
championship team, but there's so many just undefined roles and
who's gonna do what win. I've just never seen it
like this. On a payroll this high, with expectations this high,
it is going to be as much second guessing as
(27:53):
there have been over the years. With Dave Roberts, I
don't think there could be more least more possibilities for
that than now. Like Dave Roberts being second Guests and
Monday Morning Corps.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
I guess we'll find out because going into next offseason
he has not signed a contract extension quite yet, so
he'll be a lame duck going into next year.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
I think this is it like if they flamed out
this year, and I'm not rooting for this, I like
Dave Roberts. I think it depends because I think they
flamed out. Yeah, if they flamed out, I think he's cooked.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Well, what is the definition of flaming out?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
What happened the last year?
Speaker 1 (28:31):
So they get swept in the first round again?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
What happened?
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:34):
I think there's also context within that.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I mean, if if Mookie's not there, if somebody gets hurt,
if you don't have if you're literally piecemealing a rotation together,
there has to be some context added into those as well.
But if all things are equal, I would agree with you,
or most things are equal, I'd agree with you.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
There. I agree with you on the context part. It's
a case by case basis. But I think at some
point they're going to go who's the common denominator? In
what ways have we come up short? Pulling rich Hill
too early and back to back years in the World
Series putting Kersheye in in twenty nineteen. He has made
a lot of head scratching moves, and I like him,
(29:10):
and I think overall he's been okay, But I, you know,
I would have went out and got Boshee. Now, I
understand the front office and they're the puppet masters, and
they're wheeling and dealing.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
In some situations.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Cause I can remember that that National Series in twenty
nineteen that you're referencing, and they said it was an
organization for a decision that he was going to pitch
in that game anyway. Yeah, so was that his decision
was that predetermined by Andrew Freeman. I understand that when
things like this continue to happen, somebody has to be
the fall guy, and it ain't gonna be Andrew Freeman.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
So that's the unfortunate part for Dave Roberts.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
I feel like it would just be a way to
appease fans at this point, even if it was somewhat
undoe and they just were still banged up, and it
wasn't on Dave Roberts. He didn't make some glaringly bad
move like I don't know, leaving him lance Lynn to
get four home runs off of him in one inning.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Like, well, I'll also say he had limited options at
that point last year. To the fact that Lancelne was
starting a playoff game tells you the state of the
starting staff at that point last season.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
But at some point he did take him out right.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Eventually she's done a little bit earlier. Well all right,
uh abri, let's get to it.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Major asshole in real.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Life, surrounded by assholes. Thanks, but it's support asshole. Oh
did I catch you off? Artist and asshole assholes? What
do we got?
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Okay, yeah, thank you? I need like welcoming in. Okay.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
So I joined Bumble as kind of like a joke
with my cousin that I would do it for a
month and I would give it one more chance.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Like everyone has that story.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
It's true though, I mean everyone's always people.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Who have like here o my god, because it's like
a new app compared to Hinge.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Anyways, long story, I hear Bumble has.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Worked for some present company.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I did not join it as a joke.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Okay, Well, I thought I was playing.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
I have about a week left, so my timeline.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Is time is sticking the premium account.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
No, no, people pay for that.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Some people do that.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
You can see the first dating that's what they were,
Like websites like match dot com or whether you have
to pay for those, yeah, not.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
For these like little ones.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
No no, no no, I'm not gonna pay anyways, So
I matched with this one guy and the conversation was okay,
nothing too fun or dramatic or just very kind of
very chill and easy. He actually sent me a playlist
because we were talking about movies, and I was like, oh,
I like like music that he likes, which I didn't really,
(31:39):
I really didn't.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Didn't like make you a playlist?
Speaker 5 (31:42):
No no, no, no, no no no. It was like.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
I wish I can you imagine or bon Jovi like
worn to be my baby, like I would have married him.
So anyways, so he sent me like, you know, like
eight songs that he had been currently listening to.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
So we decided to meet up on a Sunday, like
after work, and we met in Belmont Shore like kind
of like Long Beach area because he had just moved
to the area from like South County. It's a different
part of Orange County.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Oh, is there some judgment going on from South County
that happened you before.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Okay, But in my defense, those.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Fuck boys from South County.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Well, I knew that he was gonna he was coming
from a different area. It's a different type of area
where just a little a little bit more, you know what, on.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
The richer side.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
And he came from like a richer part of Orange
County than like and then he moved to Long Beach.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
That's like night and day a rich yeppie, a.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Rich yuppye into Long Beach. That's just different, all right.
So I was like, okay, cool whatever. I didn't know
really what I was walking into. We didn't talk about
jobs or anything like that, so I didn't really even.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
Know what he did.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
It was probably the blindest I'd ever walked into a date.
We had very talked about superficial stuff. I didn't even
talk about work or anything else. We get I ubered there,
so I get out of the uber. I see him
right away, and I was like, oh, he's actually attractive.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Like I'm not getting like he's catfish.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
I'm not getting catfish.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
So I was like, oh, this is a good sign.
I actually like wore a cute dress, like I felt
like kind of pretty. I'm like, okay, we're okay, we're
like two for two here. So then he gave me
a hug. He's like so nice to meet you, and
I'm like okay, all right. So then we walk into
the restaurant and like the bar restaurant, and he was like, oh,
are you hungry? And I'm like, oh, yeah, I am
kind of hungry. He's like, well, I'm not hungry, but
(33:24):
if you want to eat, like that's totally fine.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
And then I was like bad move. Oh okay, you
asked someone if they're hungry, but tell them that you're not.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
And I'm glad we planned out this restaurant date here.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Yeah, and I felt like I had like been hit
in like the collar bone like that, like sternum hit.
And I'm like oh, because I was kind of like
positive thinking right, I'm like oh, and I'm like okay.
And then it was really packed in there. And then
he was like, do you want to go somewhere else?
I'm like yeah, man, wherever. And then he was like, oh,
there's a place across the street and I'm like whatever, fine,
So we go we or we sit down, we order
(33:56):
our drinks, and then I just forgot about food because
I was like I don't want to eat with this guy,
like truly don't want to even like order anything. I
want to make this as quick as possible, so I don't.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
So you're writing to ejector ride a little bit.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
A little bit, I was like, I'm gonna have this
one drink and that I'm outy. I'm gonna be like,
oh god, God, I'm so tired.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
I've been up. I didn't overnight.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
I gotta go ripcord breathe. So yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
And so then then actually then we started talking and
like he's sound and he told me that he had
just moved to Long Beach to do a grad grad
school program, Like, oh, what are you going to grad
school for writing fictional writing?
Speaker 5 (34:27):
And I'm like oh, and he's like yeah, like I
really want to write this book.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
And I'm like, oh, you're one of those dudes of
like I want to write this like dystopian first novel.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
He's like kind of like the hundred.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Sound like Chris Farlan and the SNL sketch.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Oh, look, he wants to be a writer over there.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
No, it was just the way he was talking.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
About I think you can get a PhD in fictional
writing and so it was a little you do it
in literature or whatever?
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Is he going to University of Phoenix fiction in Long Beach.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
Like fictional writing thing?
Speaker 2 (34:58):
And I'm like, liar firs Gerald the teacher, you're.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Going to go to Iowa do the workshop? Like why
are you doing cal State Long Beach? But whatever, and.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
So no disrespect the University of Phoenix, Sarah fine is yes.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
Very belief.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
I got rejected.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
So the fact of the matter was like he he
felt like I think he started kind of like, you know,
popping out his chest and be like, I'm going to
write this novel. So he started telling me about the book,
and I'm like, oh, no, I don't care, okay, and
so I'm like pretending to be interested, but he didn't
even ask me to ask him.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Hey, what's it like living with your parents while you
go through that?
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Well, well, actually he moved to Long Beach away from
his parents, like Mommy and Daddy are actually paying for
a Long Beach you know that?
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Yes he did.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
And I'm like, okay, so you know, no, good for him,
All the power to you, but I didn't like love that.
And then he was and then in the middle after
he started telling me about his book. He said, like,
don't let me dissuade you if you had wanted to
get food, Like if you want to order an appetizer,
feel free. And I said, okay, yeah, then I am
(35:55):
going to get an advertizer. But don't let me dissuade
you from leaving if you want, because like I was
a little like I didn't love the tone he said,
oh no, no, I mean no, no, get whatever you want.
I'm like, okay, I'm gonna get whatever I want then,
so that I, I well know. I did order a
mac and cheese kind of like mushroom thing, and so
I was really excited for it because it looked really good.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
The conversation was fine.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
We actually we kind of started talking about movies and
TV shows and I was kind of like, oh you're cool.
I like, I'm never going to see this guy again again.
That's always my mentality. I'll get halfway and I'm like,
never gonna see you again. So I'm excited for my
mac and cheese. Like I didn't get anything, Like I
was like, if I get sloppy, who cares, I'm never
gonna see him again. So I the mac and cheese comes,
I shit, you not you guys. He gets the spoon
(36:37):
and starts serving himself and I'm like.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
And I'm like, okay, only girls are allowed to do
that when they take fries from their boyfriend in.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Steeah, usually the other way around, when the woman says.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, yeah, I was like, I was, did it look
pretty good at the mac and cheese did have the
crumble bread crumbles on top?
Speaker 4 (36:56):
No, it did it, but it still looked delicious. But
it was just the principal I thought you weren't hungry,
and you know, you guys. I could get a little sarcastic,
you know, and I could get a little like, you know,
a little you know, meanish, but I was like, you're
not even worth my energy to say any kind of
like smart ass remark, like I'm just looking at him
like is this real? And then so then finally I
get a spoonful and then he takes the rest of
(37:19):
it and threw a spoons it all on his plate
and he finished it.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Are you sure you were part of like some sort
of reality show or something like you get like punked? Yeah,
like somebody run out with a camera and like you say,
it's a giant joke.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
I just kind of felt like, I mean, he I
think he was just really into the conversation.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
It was all about him.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
He was very that's the way to do it.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
He was all about himself, like oh, I mean, and
like I said, I should have known.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
I knew where you, I knew where he came from.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
I know people, place of insecurity, a.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Place of just entitledment. My uncle has a boat.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
I was in Catalina for two weeks.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
One of the worst things he told you that was
the time to inject breed, to be honest with you.
He probably told you that before you even met with him.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
And then to top it all off, so you guys, okay,
maybe I've said maybe ten percent about me, like this
is what I where I work or where I live,
blah blah blah, like maybe just the most basic parts
about me. Right then the asshole starts looking at his
phone and I'm like, oh, if you have somewhere to go,
I got the bill, like you can go, like please
feel free, because I'm like, oh, you're bothering me now.
(38:28):
Now you're looking like I want to be looking at
my phone too and get the fuck away from you.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
But you're looking at your phone, And he was like
oh no, no, no, I pay for parking.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
So I'm just checking the meter and I'm like, oh,
well you should go then, so you don't get a ticket, Well.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
I'm not going to get a ticket. And I'm like,
how the fuck? How are you not going to get
a ticket?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Can hit by it?
Speaker 1 (38:46):
Well, his dad, his uncle's going to pay for it. Yeah,
you got the chief of police office count against him
and so.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
And then then he was like, oh, can we get
the bill? And I'm like, oh my god, this is
just the it was.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
It's got so weird. I'm like, hey, yeah, this is weird.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
So then the bill came and then I got out
my car and I'm like, let's go havesies because again,
remember I'm I'm not going to take advantage of this.
Well I could have actually wouldn't have even felt bad
if he just, oh, he did pay for it.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
He's like, oh, I got it.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
You can buy me something at the bakery across the street.
And I'm like, oh, we're going to the bakery across
the street. Okay, I didn't know we were going across
the street.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
So wild goose Chase, what is that? No cavenger hunt
for more food than he doesn't want but eat anyway.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
So we go to the bakery and and I said,
bakery that's actually near my house, so I actually love
that bakery.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
There's two of them, so.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
I was kind of looking at what and then I
was looking at what I wanted to order, and then
I saw a sign cash only, and I'm like so that,
I'm like, oh, I don't have cash, I'm gonna watch
the ATM. And then he like grabbed me and like
hugged me to on like the side. He was like, oh,
I got you, sweety, and he sweetied.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Me get a kick on the nuts, and I was.
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Like, sweetie.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
I was like ah, and then I pushed him away
because I'm like, don't fucking hug me, you know. It
was just like I was like, you know. And then
I'm like, I'm going to go to the ATM. And
so then I got cash and I think he knew it.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
Yeah, don't call me sweetie.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
And then so I got the cash and then I
paid for it, and then I gave him a side
hug and he was like this is great, and I'm like, take.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Care, take care, waste of my goddamn tongue.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
Take care. And that was it.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
And then so, so, how exactly is this m I
the ale, because clearly I don't think any right thinking
individual will think that you're not you know, in this.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Sense, or that he is not so in the sense
of like I should. I had a little preconceived notion
that I knew where he came from, like I should
have known. Again, but I was right to be judgmental
because he was.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
I don't know if I don't know if the end
justifies that.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
I don't think you should just have some preconceived notions
about someone because of where they come from, Because granted,
you could have not dated him at all, and he
could have ended up being the nicest guy you ever met,
and you say you know because you're some yuppie from
South Orme County.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
I don't date guys like that.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
So there's a if you want to call it a
dive in for whatever you want to call that, those
