ninety seven. To give us acall on this Hallcast hotline. That's kind
of scary speaking out set up forwe have on the back end of the
show Adam Well in geek News today, as we do once a year,
it's our annual tradition here I giveout my Halloween movie playlist, and it
(01:33):
is gotten a little bit longer,a little bit thicker, a little bit
bigger this year. Now, doyou yourself go out and watch all of
these? I say, go out, stay home and watch all of these
films every single year. No,I do not, but I've seen them
all at one time in my lifework, and I'll give you one hundred
and thirty five recommendations for you towatch. Is that all before the month
(01:53):
is over? Well, Halloween's ona Sunday. I guess there's time.
I guess there's plenty of time todo that if you, if you so
choose, you got time this month. I don't know if I have enough
time for that, but maybe I'llwatch a few of them. Okay that
you end up mentioning give me five, Give me five. Okay, five
is reasonable. You pick out fivefrom some of the descriptions I give and
(02:15):
the movies I give out. It'sa Halloween tradition. Some are scarier than
others. Some are thrillers, someare kind of funny. I have eight
different no, nine different categories, because we added one last year thanks to
David and Magdaleno. We'll tell youwhat that could be coming up. Yeah,
so there you go. That's comingup in geekness coming up here.
First off, we get into somebaseball, specifically keeping it at home side
(02:38):
here with the Dodgers and Giants.Let's go done. That's right, that's
right baseball. We're here for you. We're here for you Dodger fans today.
No, I can't say that it'sshaping up to be an epic series.
There's been three games, and obviouslywe know that the Giants are currently
as of this recording, up twogames to one, and the Dodgers had
(03:00):
that breakout in Game two but havebeen shut out otherwise. The crazy part
is the Giants are up in theseries and have scored what five runs?
I believe two two and one?Is that what it is? Two two
and the one and the one inGame three. No, Game one was
four. Game one was four runs? Right? It was four right?
Okay, so it's seven to nine. And the crazy part about it is,
(03:23):
you know, we talk about howthe margin is so thin with these
two teams. You go back overthe regular season series the Dodgers, the
Giants won the series nine to ten. I think the Dodgers may have outscored
with them by two runs or something. But one of the big issues for
the Dodgers all season long has beentheir feast or famine offense, and it
has basic. It is exemplified itselfin this series perfectly. If you go
(03:43):
back to how Game one and Gamethree played out and look at how they
convincedly won. In Game two, they got shut out by Logan Webb.
What he did in that Game one, it's only happened thirty times before where
a pitcher went seven and two thirdsinnings, allowing five or fewer hits,
zero runs, and striking out atleast ten guys. So they got owned
by my kid from Rockland High, the Thunder, Logan Webb. There are
(04:08):
some Norcow connections here because last nightDevol, who kind of exemplifies what the
Giants have been all about this seasonwhere they've been sneaking up on teams.
Nobody knew who some of these guyswere. And now they have a closer
who just came in five weeks agofrom Triple A, from the Sacramento River
Cats, was the reliever of themonth in the NL and looks unhittable.
(04:32):
He's getting the k Rod vibes.Say the same thing two thousand and two
Francisco Rodriguez Vos and the Giants.Actually, a couple of our writers from
the Chronicle compared him to k Rod. Obviously they saw him up close and
personal in two thousand and two inthat World Series and say that this guy
has some electric stuff, and heclearly does. Went two winnings last night.
Granted that last pitch to Gavin luxI guess under normal circumstances is likely
(04:57):
gone, but not normal circumstances. And the Giants to play in the conditions
too. Yeah. So if wewant to say like, oh, well,
we had our home run knocked downand then the you know, Evlon
Gouria is carried out like, wellhave more? So did you had more
juice behind it? I don't wantto tell you. Yeah, it had
one go to the warning track thatwould have been out normally. The idea
that and by the way, howmany fly balls did you see outfielders for
both sides, but particularly the Giantsin big moments when the Dodgers had guys
(05:18):
on base running around lost the ballin the sky like that adds another layer.
It's not easy to go out thereand have a ball that's whipped when
the wind is whipping at twenty milesan hour and you don't know where direction
is going in it looked like Candlesticklast night. It looked like their old
Candlestick Park for the San Francisco Giants. And it's not like those guys ever
played there. They wouldn't be comfortablein that weather or more comfortable, but
(05:41):
long Gloria admitted afterwards that he thoughtthat ball was gone from Gavin Lucks off
the bat, So Gavin sure did. You're right. In normal conditions,
that's what would change things. Buthe's the guy who comes in and last
year, and we talked about thisbefore the season started with the Dodgers.
Miss guys like kek Hernandez, missguys like October Jock Peters. They've done
(06:02):
anything in the last player or inthe postseason who have made Dodgers fans long
for those days where they could bringin one of those two bats late in
the game for a big hit.And it stands out a lot more because
the guys not that you overhauled. They brought in a bunch of different dudes,
but one of the key principal figuresyou brought in was Trey Turner.
He had one extra base hit inGame two and his old forever since I
(06:23):
think he's for the arrest of theseries. I believe he's hitting No.
Seventy seven and you look at hispostseason numbers as a whole, he's betting
just over two hundred as a playoffperformer. And that's in I believe thirty
one or thirty two games. That'snot a small sample size. So you
lose guys who have been glue guysfor this team, drop this entire you
know, winning all these division titles, going to all these World series.
They're still producing with their new teams. You bring in guys who have a
(06:45):
history of struggling, and they're oldplaces and when it matters most, and
it's manifesting itself right now. Asgood as he was during the regular season,
he could end up being the MVP, but he's not getting it done.
Aj Pollock has been miserable in theplayoff and by the way, he's
been miserable in the playoffs during hisentire at Dodger tenure. By the way,
yeah, well he is twelve forlike eighty six now at the plate
(07:10):
in his postseason career. Polic Ibelieve it. He looks like an automatic
out. Bellinger obviously has at times, but had a big hitting game too,
the only game where they scored runs. So the feast or famine description
of this team is very accurate.Yeah, and I don't want to just
put it on Bellinger, who,by the way, I mean at this
point in time, it's you're jumpingup a hitting backflips when he actually makes
(07:32):
contact and the ball gets into thefield. At this point in time,
your expectation level for him is lower. But it's not for Turner, It's
not for Seeger. Muki has laceda couple, had a big one last
night, and Brianon Crawford made aphenomenal catch at short. But these are
the guys that you're paying all thismoney to have ever invested a lot in
to come through in these moments, and they haven't done it yet. Muki
got robbed. There's no doubt aboutthat. That was an all time play
(07:54):
by Brandon Crawford. But that's whathe does. If you look back to
twenty fourteen, Game seven of theWorld's Series against the Kansas City Royals,
he and Joe Panic turned one ofthe most unbelievable double plays you'll ever see
when the stakes are that high, certainly, and he's come up with big
hits in this series. Obviously,he had a home run in Game one.
(08:16):
So the Giants guys who have beenthere for a while, the old
guys, even without Brandon Belt Poseyand Brandon Crawford, have been leading them.
And having Posey behind the plate,it's almost like having another picture,
another set of eyes out there tohelp guide pictures and call just an unbelievable
game because he has a young guylike the Vall out there on the mound
(08:37):
and he knew exactly what that guyneeded to throw to get his first six
out saved. That's as important asanything when's talking about the kind of year
they've had on the mound as apitching staff, and I know Posy missed
some time because he was in thefront run or at least one of the
leaders for MVP. The first coupleof months of the season. He went
down tailed off a little bit offensively, but they've been so dominant as a
(08:58):
pitching staff, and I think alot of it can be attributed to him,
who many people forget opted out oflast season, didn't play last year.
He's had more juice than his legs, and coming into the playoffs they
rested him also, so he's lookeda little bit stronger. Him going OPO
on Walker Bueller in Game one.I can't remember the last time he went
opposite field for a whole run atOracle Part may even Ron Darling brought up
(09:20):
the fact that it seems like he'smade a concerted effort to try to go
opposite on many of his at batsin this postseasons. Why that's why he's
had so many good at bats inthis series so far too. And I'm
not gonna le guy like Corey Seegeroff the hook. You know, some
people have criticized him for having onefoot out the door. That may or
may not be true. I don'tknow, but he was They brought in
Trede Turner. Yeah, he wasas vital as anybody for as you know,
(09:41):
last year, obviously he was theMVP of the World Series. Not
having Max Munsey, there's nothing youcan do about that. That's a huge
loss in the middle of your lineupfrom a power standpoint two. But even
coming into this series they were afavorite to win. Look, they still
might. They're down two games toone. That there's still they're still very
much alive. We won to Atlantalast year in the NLCS. They don't
have the depth in their pitching staff, at least from a starting standpoint that
(10:01):
they used to, so now they'regoing to be forced. They haven't announced
anything officially, but the assumption isthat Walker Bueler is going to start on
three days rest, something he hasnever done before in his career. Now
he could end up being fine, but you just never know. And now
you're forced to bring in guys likeGonsalin and whoever else to back him up.
To me when people talk about, well, this guy's never done it
(10:22):
before, because I remember Charlie Manuel, the old manager for the Philadelphia Phillies.
I thought he torpedoed their chances ofwinning that two thousand and nine becaust
the World Series because he didn't setup Cliff Lee, who had never lost
a postseason game, to pitch gamesone, four, and seven Kurt Schilling
(10:43):
style like he did for the Diamondbacksback in two thousand and one. And
during that playoff run, he'd onlygiven up Cliff Lee two runs in twenty
four innings. Heading into the WorldSeries, he was virtually unhittable, but
they didn't set him up because CharlieManuel's logic was, well, he's never
pitched on short rests. Well, yeah, because now it's the World Series
(11:05):
and the stakes are this high andyou have to have guys do things that
are a little bit out of theordinary. It happens pretty much every year
for the team that goes on towin the World Series. And I don't
feel like anybody's criticizing the Dodgers forputting him out their own short rest.
I feel like you have in thissituation. You have to because again,
your other your alternative is Tony Gonslinin a bullpen or Mitch White or something,
(11:26):
and you're not gonna do that becauseyou wouldn't even do the bullpen game
even just based off Okay, ifwe do win we gotta have arms to
take us into Game five or intothe into the following series after that too.
And Walker Bueller is a young pitcher. He through ninety nine pitches in
Game one. Didn't look like hisdominant self. Really the last two times
now against the Giants in San Franciscoto he's better at home. Right the
(11:46):
last series they played against the Giants, in that Sunday game, the rubber
game, he got lit up Ithink six runs. Yeah, and then
obviously he gives up three in sixinnings in one. But there's not a
bad performance on the role in theplayoff. He's not horrible. He just
got out pitched by Logan Webb andI think he only gave up three three.
(12:07):
Hey, he didn't get smacked around. I put him on on the
Dodger off and it's not helping himout. Then say like, oh my
god, Walker Bueler blew it up. I feel very good about him.
Even though that was the first timein postseason history he gave up two home
runs in a start, he stillhas been unbelievable. It was just his
second loss in postseason history. Ithink he's like twelve and two or in
(12:28):
twelve starts, he has only hadtwo losses two decisions not go his way
in the postseason, so he's beengreat. Yeah, the obvious move is
to have him start, because again, not having Clayton Kershaw on the mix,
I don't know if he'd want himanyway. What are you saying.
It's just like you mentioned he hasa young arm. Just because he's never
done it doesn't mean that he can'tdo it. And again you don't have
(12:48):
any other realistic alternatives. So he'sthe obvious start at this point. If
it's all hands on deck, ithas to start with Walker Bueller. He
may not have him go complete game, even if he's pitching very well,
but you let him throw eighty pitchesat least drag get him as deep into
that game as you possibly can,and at the first sign of issues,
Unlike what they did with Hugh Darvishin Game seven, when they probably leapt
(13:09):
him in two or three batters longerthan he should have, maybe you have
a quicker hook with Bueller and havesomebody backing up ready to go in the
second inning of need be. Andone silver lining for them coming off the
loss last night is they didn't reallytax their bullpen because amazing. Gave them
exactly what they asked for when theypicked him up in a big spot like
this in the playoffs, you tellme, you give up one home run
and it may or may not havebeen win aided either way. In a
(13:31):
postseason game, it gets one ofthe best power hitting lineups in the entire
sport and you shut them. Hegot got off to a slow start again,
by the way, really had tolabor through the first three innings and
then and they really just kind ofmowed him down until they gave up the
home runs a Longoria. I wasshocked a little bit shocked that the Giants
went with alex Wood instead of Discofaniin Game three. Alex Wood had in
(13:52):
the r ray this year at DodgerStadium over five. He gave up seven
runs and eleven innings there, andhe came out and pitched a Jim Granted
he had the bullpin back him up, and they were amazing as well,
And they used Rogers in a highleverage situation where normally he's the setup guy
for de Vall, so they madea couple of interesting moves there. But
(14:15):
alex Wood was unbelievable for them,as bad as the Dodgers were at the
plate. You gotta give credit alsoof the Giants pitching staff and just how
good they were. Dy P saysthey get paid too, you know what
I mean. And he's and he'sright. You know. Alex Wood former
Dodger twice around. Obviously he's hada very good season. But I didn't
expect that from him. I don'tthink a lot of Giants fans expected him
(14:37):
to be that dominant and match MaxScherzer pitch for pitch, Yeah, which
is difficult, like a lopside is, you know, pitching matchup. Absolutely,
the Dodgers had worked him over prettydamn well this year too, as
you mentioned, especially at Dodger Stadium, and I think they've had a pretty
good track record this season against descoFani as well, so I guess they
have that working in their favor goinginto Dodgers Stadium tonight. He's in three
(15:00):
against the Dodgers. Is here withthe r A of seven point three three.
Some of that is inflated because oneof the early starts against the Dodgers
this year he gave up ten runs. He had a couple other shaky starts,
but his last start against the Dodgerssix innings, zero earned runs.
So and that was a big seriesat the end of the year. That
(15:22):
was that last series that really endedup deciding the division because the Giants won
two of three. They won onemore game all year than the Dodgers.
So they have a good opportunity tonightwith Walker Bueller, with Discofani going for
the Giants to tie this thing up, bring it back to San Francisco,
and then you have Urias on fourdays rest. And he has been one
(15:43):
of the most clutch pitchers we talkedabout Walker Bueller, but as underrated as
he has been in all season inthe regular season being so good winning twenty
games but doing it in big spots, well, he's been that good in
the postseason. When it comes tothe Dodger offense, to it, there's
a lot of there's a train ofthought like, well, they have to
stop swinging for the fences and dosome hitt and runs and do some bunting.
(16:07):
And it's like the problem is,you can't ask somebody to change the
way that they play. When you'vewon one hundred and six games and gotten
this deep into the postseason, howcould they run more? Yeah, trade
Turner's gotten on base again once,Mookie's gotten on a couple of times,
and maybe they could be more aggressiveon the base pass if you want to
give them that. But they're notgonna start doing hitting and runs and start
doing things that haven't actually gotten themhere. Now I realize they don't have
(16:27):
one of the big principal figures inthat in Max Munsey. That's a huge
loss to have to fill. Giantsdon't have. Brandon Belly was one of
the hottest hitters the last month anda half. Yeah, So I'm not
trying to make excuses for anybody. From a Dodger offensive standpoint. You know,
he has been a Giant's killer.Yeah, and you know, and
I know kershall tour degree has beenas well from from a mound standpoint.
They're just not gonna change philosophically howthey play and unfortunately the way that it's
(16:51):
shaped up for this season and quitehonestly the last few seasons for them,
you know, they have been youknow, we can get we can score
two runs and hopefully in two toone, or lose four to two or
a week and tee off when youwanna scored twelve runs in the first inning
like we did against the Braves lastyear. That's how they're built and you
kind of have to ride or dieand live and die with the way that
they play that way. But asmuch as we're talking about the Dodgers and
(17:11):
they're inept at bats, the Giantshave overall, Yeah, the Giants have
only scored seven runs in this series. It's about getting those timely hits in
the playoffs. Yeah, you can'tcriticize the Dodger pitching staff because they've been
nothing short of amazing this entire series. And even going back to the wild
Card game, Mookie Betts got robbedby Brandon Crawford. He hit a laser
(17:33):
that would have at least tied thegame. They're playing that game on Sunday
instead of Monday, and gave luxhits that ball, That ball leaves the
yard and it's saying it's tied atone and we're probably going to extras.
I will say this about Julio Arius, by the way, who maybe well,
I don't think there's any situation wherehe comes in tonight. Unlikely he
(17:53):
has come in in and relief inthe playoffs. Obviously, he's been a
utility guy, which makes him evenmore underrated. But in his playoff career
nineteen playoff games, four starts,he's got a seven and two record,
a two point six eight ERRA.So you get out of tonight with a
win, you go back to SanFrancisco where your is just one game too
(18:15):
look dominant. Although the Giants hadsome base runners on, but and I
have you know, NorCal family membersand they're like, oh no, we
can get to Urias. We hadguys on. It's like, well,
that's when he is at his best. That's when he has to dig deep
and he finds ways to get outs, and that's what he did. So
I would still feel pretty confident ifI'm a Dodger fan, just based off
(18:36):
the fact we expect Walker to gotoday and Julio Urius almost on five days
rest is going on Thursday. Agree, And I do think I will give
credence to the fact. And youbrought it up earlier, you know,
losing it on guys that have postingsonexperience that haven't had big hits in the
past. Those are some of theintangibles that you really can't you know,
factor in when talking about why shouldwe pay to keep him? Should we
not? Now? In Jock andKey K specifically, those guys wanted to
(19:00):
start. There were not gonna beopportunities for them to start with the Dodgers,
and if they could have come backin utility roles, I'm sure the
Dodgers would have been willing to dothat. But that's just that's kind of
the blessing and the curse that comeswith being a good team and having the
depth the Dodgers have had over thelast decade or so. You know,
you have guys who play important rolesoff your bench, but end up they
end up growing out of the roleand going somewhere else. That happens,
you know, We've talked about andwe talked about this a little bit with
(19:22):
Eric Stephen on our last show lastweek, but the magnitude of this series
because it's the first time these twoteams have faced each other in the playoffs,
and I understand they've really only hada chance since ninety five, but
I mean, the Yankees and RedSox have faced each other four times since
then. We don't know when thenext time the Dodgers and the Giants are
(19:44):
going to face off in a playoffseries, especially when both teams are this
good the two best teams in baseball. They are the winner is going to
be favored to win the World Series. Well, and I guess based on
that, assuming the the Giants continuebuilding on what they've been building, and
they have all the money in theworld and the off season to suspend on
top of the guys you already have, they should, They're not going anywhere.
(20:07):
The Dodgers are not going anywhere either. So the feel is at the
very least one of these teams isgoing to be a wildcard every single season,
and especially if the playoff ends upexpanding, which is more likely than
not. They're one of these teamsis shoeing for the division. One is
a shoe in for a wild card, and we could end up seeing this,
if not on an annual basis, fairly off and over the next six
seven years, you hope. Butthe Giants have had a special season.
(20:30):
Yes, this just have come outof nowhere. It had career years.
They have had an inordinate amount ofguys having career years, including guys like
Posey and Brandon Crawford being rejuvenated toa small degree. Not because you're right
from an all whole season standpoint, the Angels just got hot at the end
of two thousand and two and wrotethat momentum, they were not dominant all
year long, the A's were intheir division. But it kind of has
an Angel two thousand and two feelto it, like how the hell of
(20:52):
these guys went in kind of feelto it, and how long can they
sustain this? Now they could reload, they could go out there and make
more moves and far anxiety. BigZ's a genius, which they were equipped
to do, by the way.So hopefully these two are contending for the
NLS for years to come, andthis is just the start of even enhancing
this rivalry more by having more bigmoments in the playoffs. But right now
(21:15):
it feels like the damn World Seriesbetween these two teams. And that's the
unfortunate part, you know, It'slike, then we only get five out
of this instead of instead of potentialseven, and that it's so early in
the postseason as opposed to being inthe actual championship series. But if they
weren't facing each other, now, what if one of them got knocked out
early? There's always that possibility theNLCS between them, there was always that
(21:36):
possibility. But I had a Giantsfan last night saying into the Western Conference
Finals a couple of years ago,I had a Giants fed How dare you?
How dare you? I had aGiants fan last night text me one
of my good buddies, like,I don't even care what happens after this
series. They can get swept, but gee damn it, we can't lose
to the Dodgers. And I knowit's the other way too, the Dodgers.
(22:02):
The Giant can't lose to this rivalin the first time they play each
other in the playoffs. So ifyou're the Giants, sue, you also
have house money in that we've gota three World series. Y'all got a
fake when last year, what havey'all done in the last decade or so?
We beat y'all and we got championshipsover our shoulder. We straight.
But if in the first meeting betweenthese two and the playoffs, the Dodgers
(22:23):
beat the Giants and the Giants beatthe Dodgers, bragging rights, especially if
that team goes on to win theWorld Series, you will be hanging this
over their head for who knows howlong If they don't play each other again
in the playoffs for a while,That's what makes it so much more vital
that the team that wins this serieswins the World Series two. The importance
of all this, the stakes couldnot be higher. It's been a lot
(22:47):
of fun so far. I knowDodger fans are down right now because they
feel like they can't score at all. But I will tell you you can
easily win this series still. Likeyou said, it takes just one guy
being hitting the ball an inches tothe left or an inch to the right
and makes all the difference. Andthat's no different than how postseason baseball is
almost always played. I can't seeLogan Webb being any better than he was
(23:07):
in Game one if it comes downto that Game five bat. That was
pretty special. And I don't knowif he was necessarily trying to take credit
away from Webb, but Dave Robertsdid say that. I think you said
we were swinging with one club, basically saying we were trying to play one
way. Everybody was trying to bea hero at the plate. We didn't
have good at bats. Again,I don't know if he was trying to
take credit away from Logan Webb, who did play a great game and he's
had one of the best second halfs. I think it's him, Walker Bueller
(23:30):
and Max Shirts or the three bestdr rays of the second half of the
season. Webb has been dominant.I think Webban won his last ten starts
or something like that. Hit itinto that game. But I still feel
like what Julio Urias did is morerepeatable than what Brandon Webb Logan Webb did.
It was a good picture two ifno if for no one of the
reason that Arius has the has thedepth of experience in these moments, and
(23:52):
and Webb doesn't which good work inhis favorite too, by the way,
he and Walker Bueller going the nexttwo games. Should you get out of
Game four wither on the mound, you still should feel good about things.
As a Dodger fan going into tonight, Absolutely the I know the the narratives
are gonna be like, oh theall the pressure is gonna be on the
Giants being back home. For me, the Dodgers are favored. They were
the team that was supposed to winthe World Series this year. The pressure
(24:14):
is always going to be on themfrom my outlook. From it, I'm
regardless of how this turns out.If it gets to a Game five in
San Francisco, which we all hopefor just from if you're a supporter of
the Dodgers or the Giants, arejust baseball in general, and we get
this. We finally get to seethis rivalry when it matters most in the
postseason. You know that that's whatit's all about. All right? Read
for some geek news. Do what'sa nerve? Playing DND tonight? I'm
(24:38):
gonna come. What's guys? Thisworld won't be jealous that I've been shining
online with babes all day. Justkeep it power clubs off her powers Grace.
So there's twenty days left in Octoberand I have over one hundred movies
to give you. So if youwatch six of these day, did you
(25:00):
turn this into a song like Animaniacs? And when you get the state capitals
and all that, you watch sixof these a day, you can complete
Adam's horrorbly long Halloween movie marathon challengethat will leave you sleep deprived and likely
jobless. But if you really getinto the Halloween spirit, like Ronnie Fossio,
(25:22):
or if you're just like dragging yourd across someone's grave like that guy
from the Bachelor, you may appreciatethis list. It's an f and a
tradition unlike any other, and I'vecontinued to add movies over the years.
We got nine different categories and classificationshere. The first category is old but
(25:42):
not old but not avingt in CastellaMeet Frankenstein, Old and campy, meaning
these movies might still scare you.The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and before you
fled the country, You're having Sexwith an underage Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby,
(26:03):
eight year Old Dude, the originalHalloween hearing it right now and one of
my top ten favorite movies of alltime. Forget just horror genre, Joss
the Yeoman and Not the remake withJulius Styles, the og One with the
Scientists from Secret of the Us,Pepperoni Heaven, and lastly, and maybe
(26:27):
the scariest of these, The Exorcistthat cross to the crotch sheen is not
cool, you don't say up.Next, we have the category. The
eighties kind of ruled the horror genre, with classics like The Shining Row,
(26:49):
Nightmare on Elm Street, the Firstone and three Dream Warriors with a young
Patricia Arquette, Poltergeist, which hasthe most settling ending ever where nothing is
resolved. They just jump into theback of the station wagon and drive away.
So does uh And you're probably gonnaget to this too. What's the
name of the movie? I oh, House a Thousand Corpses. House of
(27:11):
a Thousand Corpses? Okay, isthat in there is a rob zombie one?
It is a rob zombie one?Is that not in your mix?
Is that a little too gory foryou? It is? Yeah, I
haven't seen it. Okay, thatalso has Well, I guess there's closure
to a degree, but probably notwhat you would like or we will be
looking for. Yeah, but yeah, there was a Poulter Guy's sequel,
so maybe that's why they had tojust leave that fast. We'll throw my
honorable mentioned into the mix when itcomes to that. They're back. Yeah.
(27:36):
Two of my favorites that certainly qualifyas horror movies would be Clive Barker's
hell Raiser one and two and HellRaiser hell Bound. And I don't care
that Pinhead's going to be a girlnow all right now? Sometimes girls are
way scarier. Yep. They justtalked about The Exorcist. The thing is
(27:56):
a good one. The movie withKurt Russell, Goody cap that Ain't Chill,
Never come back again. It's gota death curse, and then we
got Psycho in there. Return toOz with the hot mangled teeth Girl from
Waterboy is an all time sequel andis definitely disturbing. If you thought Judy
(28:18):
Garland was going to show up andspread some sunshine, think again. Instead
you get some weird eurotrash dudes onroller skates and the most unfortunate looking man
in the world, Clint Howard.A much more attractive actor would be Jeff
Goldbloom, and he could be foundin the wonderful David Cronenberg movie The Fly.
(28:41):
Finally, for your eighties kind ofruled the horror genre. We have
Friday the Thirteenth with Kevin Bacon andJason For some reason, I watched every
Friday the Thirteenth movie earlier this year, and I must say I thought four
was pretty good with Corey Feldman andCrispin Glover. Now you binged all these
like back to back to back, like one of those TVs marathons or something.
(29:02):
Yeah, I'm a fool. Idon't know what else too. You
sleep well that night? It wasstill you know I did. Of course,
I was drinking hart that'll help. But Jason X, we talk about
the lord Z costume. Yeah,he is wearing it. There's no doubt
that they ripped it from Power Rangers, which is kind of said to be
(29:26):
honest with all. Right, nowwe're gonna enter. I love the nineties
horror, starting with one of thelast good movies by the great Francis Ford
Coppola, Bram Stoker's Dracula with GaryOldman back when he used to always play
the bad guy, and he doesplay a beautiful Dracula in this one.
Speaking of if you're into vampire hookers, well, the beautiful Monica Pallucci is
(29:51):
in it and I hear blood isn'tnot all? She sucks? Next his
interview with a vampire We're an elevenyear old Kursten Dunce gives a great performance
next to Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. She didn't win an Academy Award though,
like Anthony Hopkins did in his roleas Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the
Lambs. Another one, seven,of course, or Acnophobia Nightbreed the Prophecy
(30:14):
with Christopher Walkin and Vigo Mortenson, who's awesome as Satan plus Casey Jones that
actor's in. He's good. BrainScan with Edward Furlong listening to a lot
of primus while playing a virtual realitygame where if you kill someone in the
game, they die in real life. Of course, West Cravens, Scream
and Scream two have to be includedhere. The late nineties cannibalism movie Ravenous
(30:37):
is good with Guy Pierce, andI still love the og Blair Witch Project.
Even though you never see the Witch. It's psychological less is more.
I think it's just right. Alsokeeps the budget costs down to that's a
good point. It's about ten thousandfucks to make that thick. The two
thousands horror movies are called the Youought to Know about the horror movies from
(31:00):
the first decade of the twenty firstcentury. Here's a trilogy of good shaky
cam found footage like movies. Thefirst three Paranormal Activities, and there's like
how many now like seven too many? One knows a lot Naomi Watts and
the Ring remake is solid. GingerSnaps a werewolf coming of age movie that's
(31:22):
also a metaphor for girls becoming awoman, getting their period. Drag me
to hell. The last Sam Raimimovie that I can remember is pretty good.
Here's a horror movie. Is thatbecause you're drunk when you watch the
rest of his movies? Or no, it's just he did Spider Man three
and then he's never been able toget away from that. Okay. I
(31:45):
just thought it was like destroyed benhamWell. I thought it was like one
of those. All right, Well, every time I turned on one of
his movies are so bad, Ijust started drinking and then I fall asleep
and then I don't know how ithappened, now how it fitted? You
know? So this one is topten horror movie worthy to me. Strangers
with or thus Strangers thus Strangers.Maybe it's just strangers. I can't I
(32:05):
haven't seen it. Either way. It's got liv Tyler, it's got Scott
Speedman, and it features some slowchilling deaths. Oh. Now, I'd
go pretty quick if I had MichellePeiffer on top of me like Harrison Ford
did in What Lies Beneath. That'sa good, one quality thriller. Now,
the first Saw movie I'll give propsto. Okay, but they're up
(32:29):
to nine now, No way, seriously, they're up to nine. I
fell off after three Damn well thosestraight to DVD or straight to yours streaming
service of choice. Now I thinkthere was a spinoff one recently with Chris
Rock. I don't know Jigsaw's backstory, who cares? What about a thinking
man's acting tour to force type Halloweenmovie that would be Shadow of the Vampire
(32:52):
with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich,Okay? And then another top ten worthy
Halloween movie, The Psychological Through Sessionnine, where David Caruso drops one of
the best f bombs of all time. I'll put it at the end of
the show. Now we move intoa horror subgenre called freaky foreigner flicks.
(33:14):
But don't let them make you axenophoe. Let the right one in Wolf
Creek one and two, where youmeet Australia's Freddy Krueger Mike. Another scary
Australian movie is The Loved Ones, where hell hath no fury like a woman
scorned by her promptie. Here's atough watch for only the most debased and
(33:36):
desensitized folks. Suicide Club Martyrs fromtwo thousand and eight is also rough audition.
Train to Busan and Hey, didyou like the Academy Award winning film
Parasite. Did you see that one? I did not? Well, that
director did another movie called snow Piercer, which is now a show. Huh.
(34:00):
But he did one called The Hostfrom two thousand and six that's very
good. Also, do you likeblack and white photography? Are people fully
clothed in the photography? Yeah?I suppose so. Pass Well, there's
a black Abie movie called A GirlWalks Home Alone that's pretty good. But
(34:22):
not that Home Alone with Kevin No, no, no, I mean yeah.
Do you like home invasions while onvacation? I prefer not. Well,
you won't like funny games? Thenthat one's that doesn't sound very funny?
Tough Watch. Do you like theactor Michael Fassbender, Hey, he's
(34:45):
a good actor. Then you'll likeEden Lake where he fights a bunch of
kids but he doesn't have his magnetopowers. Well, so do they kick
his ass? Or what? Ishe outnumbered by the children? There's a
lot of them. You have towatch him it out. Okay. Next
is the category you were a littlescared but then you laughed. Horror movies
(35:07):
that are also comedic in nature filmslike Shaun of the Dead one of my
favorites. Evil Dead too provy andArmy of Darkness. Army of Darkness is
great. Both Ghostbusters, Yep.I know Bill Murray doesn't like the second
one. And by the way, there's only two. I thought the second
one was creepier if there's only two. First of all, well, they
did the one with the all femalecast a couple of years ago. Ever
(35:29):
heard of it? Was that athird one or was that just a written
a redo of the first one?No one knows because no one watched.
I don't know if necessarily true, but I sure as hell didn't watch it.
It just didn't look interesting to me. Did you see the Grindhouse films
by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. They're very good. Planet Terror and Death
(35:50):
Proof From Dusk Till Dawn. Boththose guys worked on that movie too.
Yep. Even though the second halfis absurd, I still enjoy it.
Only the second half Under the SilverLake with Andrew Garfield on a scavenger hunt
in our own backyard here in socal It's like ten movies or ten different
genres wrapped into one. There's somescary stuff, but there's some funny stuff.
(36:13):
Really good movie Mom and Dad withNicholas Cage, where for some reason,
all the parents in the world arenow trying to kill their kids.
That's a fun one. Zombie Landsthe first one. I watched the second
one and it jumped the zombie Shark. The Lost Boys, of course,
that's a classic Tucker and Dale versusEvil. I'd like a sequel to that,
(36:38):
Tucker and Dale versus Evil. Thatsounds like a buddy cop, funny,
stupid thing. It's two guys basedon the name. Yeah, wrong
place, Wrong time type movie. It's very humorous. Troll Hunter, well,
I mean any of the troll movies. I'm sure this isn't part of
the troll series, but you're right. We gotta put Troll two Control one
(37:02):
in here. All right, we'reup to one thirty seven. There we
go. Is this what happens?I feel like this happens every year,
Like, oh yeah, snap,I forgot about that one was added to
the list. What about the indiegoonies movie Monster Squad. I don't feel
like the Goonies. This was likethe B movie Goonies, but it's got
a cult following it. It's alot of fun and how about some six
(37:24):
Degrees of Kevin Bacon as he findshimself in another movie on my list,
Tremors. I know of Tremors, but I've not seen it. Now we
get to the category I saw theserecently. They're relatively new horrors that are
worth your time. The Witch, which I've talked about you have a lot.
That's the most well done horror moviesince The Shining in my humble not
(37:45):
so humble opinion, it's got thegirl with the big eyes also from Queen's
Gambit, who kind of looks likean alien, but a lot of guys
still want to do her. Insidiouswith the Darth Maul demon, The Contrary
one and two, Annabelle Creation,It's all part of that world. Then
you have Creep one and two, both are on Netflix. Those are good.
(38:07):
It follows one of the best horrormovies recently, The Invitation Solid Honeymoon
that has this redhead you know nothingsnow in it from a Game of Thrones.
Lights Out with My Girl to reasea Palmer Berlin syndrome with her two
are both good. The Pack abouta family having to survive and attack by
(38:31):
wild dogs. Hush with a deafgirl, who's stalked out in the Boonies.
It Comes at Night, The Giftwith Jason Bateman, Oculus Gerald's game,
Terrifier with a killer mime, TheVoid, which is like a love
letter to eighties horror movies like HellRaiser Hereditary Midsommer. Those are two of
(38:53):
the most popular horror movies of thelast five years. The Monster under the
Skin in where You See More ThanYou bargain For with Scarlett Johansson. An
excellent sci fi thriller, though allthe Boys Love Mandy Lane with Amber Heard
The Ritual, which is on Netflix. That's one of my favorites of the
(39:15):
recent Halloween theme type movies. It'slike a bachelor party, camping trip a
bunch of guys get Lost, HunterHunter, Murder Party by the director who
did Blue Ruin and Green Room, which are also popular. The Black Coat's
Daughter, Very Good Apostle Safe HavenNow. This is a great short on
(39:36):
the VHS two movie VHS is ahorror movie that's a compilation of a bunch
of different directors doing shorts. Mercy, Black Time, Share, Get Out
Us, The Killing of a SacredDeer with a young Walker Bueller. There's
an actor in this Kevin. Lookthis up. The Killing of a Sacred
(39:57):
Deer. You will see a youngWalker Bueller. I'm not kidding. Nobody
knows who this guy is. He'sbeen in Dunkirk and a few other movies,
but he looks just like him.The Lighthouse, although it is kind
of abstract and it's very artistic,it has some great acting, a quiet
place one and two although two isit's whatever, It's the same thing His
(40:20):
House Heartthrob, Better Watch Out BoneTomahawk, a western with the most gruesome
scene outside of anything in Cannibal Holocaust, The Devil's Candy, The Endless Raw
Cavin in the Woods, cam TheLodge, which I saw this year,
and Goodnight Mommy. Same filmmaker, both high level quality horror movies. It
part one. Part two is asbad as Part two was with the original
(40:45):
mini series The Haunting of Hillhouse andthe Haunting of Blind Manner. Both of
these series are on Netflix. They'reincredible, really smart, intelligent stuff.
That same director just came out withone called Midnight Mass which is on Netflix.
I blew through it. It waspretty disappointing, but it might be
(41:06):
worth watching. Still. Here aresome miscellaneous ones now that I have trouble
assigning to any genre or category otherthan saying they all qualify as good movies
that you should watch during the Halloweenseason. Donnie Darko, Do you Believe
in Time Travel? The Crow,Rip, Brandon Lee, Stranger Things?
The series on Netflix. Is DonnieDarko a horror movie? I'm not saying
(41:30):
horror, just Halloween season? Ohall right? They do a Halloween party,
true nightmare before Christmas? All right? Come on and ed Wood.
Now, speaking of woods, Ihave a Bigfoot category that I added last
year thanks to David Magdaleno and justbeing bored during the pandemic. That would
(41:50):
include movies like Willow Creek, Hoax, Stomping Grounds, The Sighting Exists,
Abominable, The Untold, The Hunted, and Devil on the Mountain. These
are all fairly entertaining and not toohokey. Most of them are legitimately scary
or at least have boobs. That'sall we can hope for, especially Matt
(42:14):
Dealano. Lord knows Bigfoot's Wild Weekenddoes. I didn't put that on the
list, but if you're interested, are you sure that is a Halloween or
a horror movie? Well? Genre? Did you find that in how many
exos were in that genre. Itwas on Amazon Prime and then there was
a quick apparental advisory thing before yougot to it. Hey, it's got
nothing on Bigfoot Versus dB Cooper, which is basically a gay port I have
(42:38):
been with gay But the name ofthe movie is Bigfoot Versus dB Cooper,
and it has really nothing to dowith dB Cooper. I don't even know.
No one jumps out of a plane. It's just a bunch of guys
in the woods in their underwear, running around with pop guns trying to get
after big Foot. But there's onescene where the camera just stays in one
(42:59):
spot while a guy on dresses Andthat's when I knew I wasn't watching just
any big Foot movie and theres beenwith no purpose behind this uh this one
shot, well there was, butnot pertaining a big Foot. The purpose
was, I guess for you totouch yourself. Yeah you're into that.
I think I'll pass on that way. Big Foot versus dB Cooper, Okay,
good, all right, I mightcheck out some of those on the
(43:22):
Bigfoot category. Who did you thinkyou're in? Thirty seven movies? For
you? I keep forgetting and maybemaybe you said it and I missed it.
Did you throw creep Show into thethe hokey, stupid funny ones?
There you go, because that creepthat's one of your favorites, would absolutely
fall into that category, right,Yeah, eighties, I'd say, like
eighty two, eighty three maybe,so, I mean the I would say
(43:45):
they there was no very little animation, although they did do kind of like
a Tails from the Crypt thing wherethey would have like cartoon evolve into a
but it was pretty cheesy and hokey. It was pretty bad at fun watch.
Yeah, oh yeah, it's good. Yes, it's one of those.
Look, go with the intention ofbeing scared. Just go there and
just try to laugh your ass off. You know, maybe pop a couple
(44:06):
beforehand, you know, I openup a drink, you know, whatever
your advice. Maybe it's like trolltoo, you know what I mean.
You want to cook chrystals at leastbit crack at it, not that at
all. You want to get whateverwhatever works for you know what I mean.
But I have a couple with yeah, well yeah exactly, but for
(44:29):
all your aches and pains and thensit there and watch some creep show and
that'll be fun for you, allright. So one hundred and thirty seven
movies. I'm sure we'll have acouple more to add to it for next
year. Show we will, butI think that's a lot this year.
That's enough for you guys to beable to steal on for now. I
want to get this out early beforeHalloween passed exactly have enough time to watch.
It's only a couple more weeks togo when it comes to that,
(44:52):

(45:35):
yeah, did you? But whenI saw these two teams and these colors
on the field against each other inthe playoffs, all of a sudden,
I was like, let's fucking go. Yeah. And I really embarrass myself
watching especially Game one. Were youwith the CBS from Rockland, like,
I get it, and he lookslike Landry from a Friday Night Lights Sacramento
river Cats with a Triple A affiliate. I can't help myself, I understand,
(45:58):
which is why you'll be so depressedwhen the I just winning on Thursday.
Kevin Rius got a chill, Nah, bring all that smokes. Gotta

(46:19):
It's going into twenty twenty two.Exture David Caruso saying this to John
Gurdon. By the way, justwhen that sound by comes up here,
I just want to get that out. Yeah, you know someone who stops
sweating this fast weekend was Urban Meyer. He was like, oh, thank
you, John, appreciate your brother. Got got a lot of heat off
of me. I didn't see him, but I could imagine. I can
(46:42):
imagine that was probably something a popularnotion going around the last couple of days
or so. Thank you guys forlistening. As always, we'll talk to
you later this week. On anotheredition of the F and A podcast,
Manna's Color Biz, I pushed Miraccalwins and nah, hey fuck you U
