you the listener, podcasting and downloadingthe show and streaming it live. Even
though we move around the clock,we can always be found in the right
places on the dial. All right, Matt, it's time for the final
hour. Fun fast Fact. Yeah, we're three fun fact. Every time
(03:09):
an armadillo gives birth and we areyour Armadillo Show of record, they have
identical more of a Texas thing.But you're right, I mean, I
yeah, not even close. Imean, nobody talks about the armadillo and
digs into the armadillo's life like us. I think about that movie ten Cup.
You know, there's a lot ofarmadillo crossing the streets and stuff.
(03:30):
Every time an armadillo gives birth, they have identical quadruplets. Okay, pretty
weird, right, I mean, imagine if there weren't three more Michael Jordan's
running around that would happen if hewas an armadillo, And you know what,
we wouldn't have the Michael Jordan wehave today, No, we wouldn't.
It would water it down ruin themarket. Like Mike and the other
(03:53):
three guys. If I could belike them and his other Mike and the
other Mic and the other Mic,Mike Mike, Mike, Mike, Well,
that's great information on the Armadillo.I appreciate that, Matt. I'm
sure our listeners do too. Itis time for the word of the day,
Matt. You probably upset about this. I would imagine a lot of
people are the word of the day, his words, the word of the
(04:18):
day. Today's word of the dayis it's over. Southwest Airlines announced today
that it will do away this iswhen its bowline s. Sorry, can
I please? I know I'm sorryfor reading about the country. I'm a
(04:40):
headline reader, Matt. They're goingto do away with the longtime practice of
open seating, abandoning and abandoning afeature, of course, that made Southwest
Airlines Southwest Airlines without the heart,Matt. It's just a machine. They
used to board with groups of thirtyABC. You could throw a little bit
(05:04):
of money and get up there towardthe a's. You could be a humble
person and line up with the bees, or you could lament your life and
be with the c's. But nowthey will assign seats and unveil premium seating
options that offer more leg room. They say they expect that about one third
(05:27):
of seats across its fleet will haveextra leg room. They said they're going
to roll out the new seating andboarding options sometime in twenty twenty five.
They do have no immediate plans toimplement bag fees, but you know it's
coming. Yeah, it's coming. And that's what this is all about.
They're losing money. And they saidthat when people say they want to stop
(05:50):
flying Southwest, ninety percent of themsay it's because of open seating. That
is horse crap. I always appreciatedSouthwest because the fair was the fair.
They don't nickel and dime you likeevery freaking airline does. Now this seat
costs that you want to bring acarry on? Oh you want to jump
the line. How much is yourfirst bag? This is your second?
Back Southwest? Here's the number youpay it two bags? Open seating,
(06:15):
Bing bang boom, let's go.Well, Matt, you agree with Sati
Ready, a lawyer from the BayArea who told the Washington Post, this
is the end of the People's Airline. Yeah, I'm the people this is
my airline. That was their reputationamongst the carriers was the People's Airline.
(06:38):
And now Southwest will be like everybodyelse or at least you're an alfree country
al free anyway, that's the situation. No more lining up and hurting yourself
on. There's gonna be like afirst class in Southwest. And you know
they're not going to put those seatswith the extra leg room in the middle,
(07:00):
Matt. I'm not going to putthem in the back of the plane.
You know what they're going to do, Matt. Oh look at this,
I can I can take the flightto New York on United for one
hundred and eighty nine dollars. Letme click on that. And what's this
No assigned seat, no carry andright, well, I do want to
pick my seat. Oh it's nowtwo hundred and fifteen. Interesting, Yeah,
I definitely need to carry on.Oh it's now two hundred and forty
(07:21):
four. And come on, they'restill not going to charge for bags Matt
yet. Yeah, that's the newswith Southwest Airlines. Everything must change.
Cool winter turns to spring. It'shard to see things that we're comfortable with
go away, like riding in theback of a truck on the way to
(07:41):
school, or at least being ableto put your dog back there. All
right, it's time of the numberof the day, here's my number number
of the day. Number the dayis eight zero one P. Eight zero
one. A neighborhood you are veryfamiliar with. Eight zero one West Seventh
Street, the corner of Seventh andFlower, Downtown, Los Angeles, right
(08:05):
across from where we did our Hey, we gotta get that Kobe Wax figure
in the shade. Yeah, faya block away Seventh and fig Yeah,
block away Seventh and Flower. Thestreet runs the other way. They just
opened Taco Bell Cantina. Oh yeah, I've heard about this, just open
(08:30):
on the nineteenth, six days ago. I'm sure parking is great down there,
rap by the California Club and theBono Venture. Oh yeah, park.
I mean, you know, it'slike you feel like you can almost
just put your car in neutral andwatch it glide into a spot. There's
so many doubt. Now I'm ina Valet and an engine company twenty eight
on Figueroa's Get my Way. Ithas a rock and roll theme. There's
(08:52):
like a rock and roll stained glasswindow. There's guitars on the wall.
It's more of an upscale looking seating. The counter looks very similar. But
who's the bartender at the Taco Bellcantina. That's what I want to know,
exactly right. I got to bethe best bartender in the city.
There is where you separate. Theyserve beer. I'm looking at photos from
(09:15):
the people and I see a corsLight tap, a Modelo tap, a
dog Town Brewery tap, and aLucky Ipa tap. So four beers on
tap and whine only matter. Wehave a margaret. I mean, come
on, it's Mexican. We gottahave margaritas. Yes, they got booze
pee, come on, full liquor. I can see in the background a
(09:37):
bottle of Maker's Mark. So unlikethe pack two banquet, you will not
have to never get over it,spin your heel and walk out. I
see Gray Goose, I see BacardiRum, I see Malibu Rum. Basically,
what they have done they have mergeda Taco bell with chillers. There
(09:58):
are three wait a minute now thatno, wait a minute, don't tell
twelve slurpies liquor infuse Slurpees twenty fifteen. Ronnie Fossil is just gonna go get
an ice cream headache like no other. So they they not only have your
full Taco bell menu, they notonly have beer on tap but they serve
(10:18):
hard liquor pina coladas, Margarita's,but also their famous Baja blasts, and
all of those things are in slurpyform and you can have them blended with
whichever type of liquor you prefer ourseven am to three am w but they
have to cut off booze sales attwo am. Okay, all right,
(10:41):
that's fair. So topot two slurpies. You order two slurpees and one fifty
five. It is. It's funnybecause like the Eater Los Angeles article that
I saw makes it look like it'sreally nice, like oh wow, this
looks kind of like a like aBJ's or something of that scale, you
know, and then I go tothe actual photos of the place and it's
(11:01):
like, oh no, it's justa taco bell. Well you started saying
we can't get rooms at the Omniand make a night of it. It's
just a taco bell that happens tohave a bar and is kind of cool.
So yeah, if you miss ifyou miss chillers, and if you
like your chiloopas and your cheesy gorditacrunch, no there is a place for
(11:22):
you. Tequila Rum, vodka, whiskey. They call it twisted is what
you get. You can just geta virgin frozen Baja blast if you like.
But if you say, hey, come on, let's go. I
want my Baja blasts twisted. Letme get some silver in there, It's
right, get some of that Petronsilver in there. And I get said,
do you have Bailey's? Can Iget some Bailey's in there? So
(11:46):
get after that the corner of Seventhand Flower, Taco Bell Cantina. All
right, we got three Things Thursdaycoming up in the next segment. Song
of the Day, Ronnie, thisis a song of the day. Benny
Mardonas was a singer and songwriter bestknown for today's song of the Day called
(12:07):
Into the Night. A beautiful tunefor a crunchy groove Thursday, reminding us
of old friends in simpler times. Also appropriate for a late afternoon start,
as the Petrosen Money Show follows DodgerBaseball, taking you into the night and
right into Fox Sports Radio and theJason Smith Show at seven o'clock. Thank
you for sticking around, Thank you, Ronnie, and we'll be back with
(12:31):
three Things Thursday and jaunt around NFLcamps with the Voice of the Bolts.
Thanks for listening, everybody, Petrosend money on AM five seventy LA Sports.
It's a crunchy groove and Thursday. We're on a little late, but
on all the way till seven.Dodger Victory Kershaw looked pretty good, got
(12:52):
out of a jam. Troubles areover. Not to mention, we got
another game tomorrow with the Dodgers andyou show starts at two o'clock, So
stay tuned on AMPI seventy LA Sports. You're a home of the Dodgers,
and make sure you follow us onthe iHeartRadio app. Podcast the show on
the iHeartRadio app, stream it liveor follow us on social media. But
(13:16):
it is now time for three thingsThursday, Three thingsters right, First thing,
Pete, we start at Loyola MerrimountUniversity, home of RAMS training camp
(13:37):
as they continue to build and constructtheir new training facility in the Woodland Hills
area. I believe permits. Idon't know if they have a valley commission
like the Coastal Commission whose hoops theymust jump through, but I do not
believe they have broken ground yet,so they the architect we could get them
on. Let's now as long ashe's willing to talk about the water table
(14:01):
have mine. I don't think youcan have much of a water table problem,
but I want to make sure thewater tables on the table. Tip
of the cap to Robert Mays AthleticFootball Show. He's the national writer reporter
for the Athletic when it comes tothe NFL. He was out at Chargers
camp yesterday and today and was chattingwith him for a bit and he requested
(14:22):
to sit down with Sean McVay.They've known each other a while McVeigh,
so I decided to listen through itafter I talked to him about it yesterday
and McVeigh clearly likes respects his work. Invited Robert out to his house to
do the interview, and it's great. It's a lot of football junkie kind
of stuff. That's a lot ofthat stuff little Rose. Probably I didn't
(14:43):
hear it. He did not mentionRose on the talk about that's just for
his wife, Veronica. Her namecame up a few times. But he
is also very candid with his lowpoint when he was thinking about walking away,
retiring and heading to the media. It's a great conversation, probably a
little over an hour, you geta little bit of everything. But I
wanted to play this clip for you, Pete, because I know it will
(15:05):
not surprise you at all. Youknow him a lot better than I do.
But I have been lucky enough tobe around coach a few times and
he's just the best, like theabsolute best guy ever. So here's the
setup. McVeigh is talking about howhis mental health struggles ended up becoming public
through his kicking around the idea ofleaving coaching and taking the job with Amazon,
(15:28):
and he said one of the firstcalls he got immediately, someone that
he did not have a relationship upto at that point, was from coach
Pete. Chris Peterson is a guythat reached out to me. He knew
and he had to experienced some thingsthat were similar based on a press conference
that I had had at the endof the season where I said they needed
some time to reflect and kind ofwas honest about some of the struggles that
(15:50):
I had in the insecurities that Ihad to deal with, and he reached
out, and man, what ablessing it's been the relationship we've been able
to form. He reached out,he said, I know what you're feeling,
and then you're talking about somebody that'sgone through it. You know,
there's a lot of things as youknow, you know, as you're navigating
your space, Robert, like peoplethat go through a similar journey, there's
a lot of relatability, and there'san understanding of the way you move and
(16:12):
the rhythm and routine and some ofthe stressors and the things where there's you
know, a loss of perspective. And here's a guy that was an incredible
coach at Boise, incredible coach atWashington, and I really appreciated that,
you know, he had all thissuccess optically, but he you know,
he articulated to me that he wasgoing through some of those things. And
he has been an incredible mentor andincredible friend that we meet, you know,
(16:36):
all the time and have stayed connected. And I can't thank him enough
for helping me. It's pretty greatthat coach Pete would do that, Pe
and I'm sure not a surprise toyou at all that started to just reach
out to the guy in sense thatmaybe he was going through a bit of
a tough time. He mentors alot of coaches, you know, like
a lot of coaches at every level, and kind of helps him make decisions
(16:59):
about what's next, because you know, these guys move around a lot,
they move their families. There's alot of big money involved sometimes. You
know, there's guys that need money, guys that need jobs, guys that
need placing. And it's not abig world. So it doesn't surprise me
at all. Yeah, that's exactlywhat he is. He's a mentor.
I don't know how he has anytime for himself. Yeah, pretty great.
(17:19):
As far as the Rams go onthe field, their win total is
is surprised when I saw it eightand a half. They can go nine
and eight and you'd hit the overand you'd think they can probably go nine
and eight. They got all thoseyoung guys that ended up getting experienced last
year still won. Those guys area year older with a year of experience
under their belt. But of coursethere was a huge loss. No more
(17:40):
Aaron Donald. They closed the seasonseven and one to make the playoffs at
ten and seven, nearly knocked offDetroit in the wild card rounds. So
what gives Obviously, Aaron Donald,Matthew Stafford's a year older. Can he
stay healthy for the entire season? They were two and six against playoff teams
last year, but looking at theirschedule, it does look like nine games
(18:03):
is certainly attainable. He's cited asa top five coach, some people think
he's the best coach in the league. Something certainly to keep an eye on.
But a podcast I would recommend listeningto. It's kind of got a
little bit of everything. And atsecond where I was again today p the
Chargers camp back at the Bolt todayfor that later start certainly helped with the
traffic, no doubt, having tobe there at noon instead of at nine
(18:27):
am. And one thing because Igot there early instead of trying to run
in as training camp was getting startedyesterday because of how bad the traffic was.
Harbaugh superstar. As you know,he's out there, the fans are
freaking out. He's high five andhe's talking to people. He's signing a
ton of autographs, taking a bunchof photos. Probably the name that more
people are calling out than any othersave Justin Herbert, and I don't know,
(18:51):
it might be neck and neck betweenhim and Justin Herbert over who the
most popular Charger is at training campright now. And another thing i'd wreck
amend the Chargers posted a micd upof Jim Harbaugh from his first day yesterday
of training camp. It wasn't fromtoday, This was from yesterday and it's
about twelve minutes. And I thoughtone of the quintessential Jim Harbaugh moments came
(19:14):
in the middle of it when heyou know, it's just like the dog
and up and squirrel and Harbaugh findsa mouthpiece and needs to get to the
bottom of the riddle of whose mouthpieceit is? You remem missing the mouth
guard? Mouth guard? Anybody mouthguard? Got mouth guard? Right? They
(19:37):
go, no, no, no, no. T Shelby right way over
there. Okay. Harbor jogs acrossthe two fields. Kay Shelby, Kay
Shelby. Okare you're welcome. That'sa real friend right there. Yeah.
(20:06):
They have a names on him.You know. It used to be a
long time ago. Yeah, beforeyou get to college or I guess the
pros. You know where there's likea big it looks like one of those
things where everybody has like a member. You used to have like drawers for
your action figures, like a holderlike the Darth Vader head would open and
all your Star Wars guys. Yeah, properly placed. They have one of
those big old things for everybody's mouthguardon a football team. And your drawer
(20:32):
opens and there's like five of yourmouthguard molded to your teeth with your name
on it, courtesy of the USCdental department in my day, and so
they were labeled with your name,so you are able. You know it
used to be your mouthguard flew off. Who knows, who knows? Might
be somebody the time, you know, there was no way to find it.
(20:55):
This guy's got teeth like a shark. He's got three rows working for
me. You could really check thedental records if you were really into finding
the guy. But I hope thatguy makes the team. Harbaugh made some
nice strides for him. Certainly theUSC football team was out peat They did
not see Lincoln Riley, but i'dsee a number of the kids, I
(21:15):
shouldn't say kids, number the youngmen from us he were out, probably
fifty sixty of them. He mightstill be in Indianapolis, I don't know.
I believe he's doing like a crossfirestyle roundtable with Deshan Foster. I
think that's what's happening right now.But they were out very excited about their
teammate. Former teammate Brennan Rice beingout there. Every time he was running
(21:37):
a rout they got excited and we'recheering for him. Good energy. And
the one thing that I really tookaway, and this is something that you've
known forever, that we've known forever, that anybody that follows Jim Harbaugh is
known forever. Just the superlatives andthe overwhelming positivity about everything is infectious,
appreciated. That's just what he is. Everything is great, everything's amazing.
(22:03):
Quinton Johnston is going to be aproblem. Look at what this guy's doing.
He says that yesterday he had probablytwo or three routes that looked a
lot better than anything we'd seen lastlast year. And then he goes out
there today and sure enough, herehe is in double coverage, high pointing
the ball in the end zone andjumping up to get it. And I
don't think I ever saw him raisetwo hands to catch a ball and jump
(22:25):
ball. Last year he would, for whatever reason, only raise one.
So perhaps the positivity is working forJim Harbaugh and his players, and Ty
Shelby, I hope you're appreciative ofhim jogging across two football fields to give
you your mouthguard, because I wouldguess Tie as a guy that's probably right
on the bubble when it comes tointerior linemen, and I hope he shows
(22:47):
the appropriate bit of thankfulness that hishead coach would do that. The other
thing, P is you well knowJim Harber likes to wear cleats, and
he had some specially designed cleats.I saw in the micd up Chris Smith,
the director of the equipment room, out there asking if coach liked the
color scheme. Did he like theblue on the bottom, Was there anything
that he wanted tweak? Did hewant different cleats for gamers for practice?
(23:10):
Did he like the black? Wasit too hot? Was there anything he
can do? So certainly, ifwe know all about Jim harbaughs Khakis,
it appears as though his cleat's alsovery particular about how he wants those things
put together. When he's out thereon the practice room. You get paid
that much money to coach, youget to be very particular about what you
want. Finally, our third thing, we go down to Raiders Camp.
I don't know if you heard they'reout here. Don't be that way,
(23:34):
Matt, but I did find somethingout. The one thing that they can
now we talked about the boys justtotally changed. Matt no very excited about
it. I mean it was likea down shift. I mean, my
god, it's supposed to have anybodyout there. Guys, that's supposed to
have any fans. They are allowedto have VIPs as season ticket holders.
It is the LA, I guessLA based public that's not invited. I
(23:57):
did talk to some people that wentout there yesterday. Of course, we
talked to Tim Kat who went outthere yesterday, and they The one little
wrinkle that I did not know thatI now kept an eye on, well,
I didn't keep an eye and Iwent and checked it out for myself.
Was they are not allowed to saywhere they are. So they can
have photos, they can say likeyou know, ocean breeze or something like
(24:22):
that, but they cannot write thatthey're in Coast to Mesa. They cannot
post that they're at Jack Hammett, they can't mention that they're at Orange Coast
College. So it's funny to readthrough now the clips on their website and
their social media, knowing that it'svery much like us when the Super Bowl
comes around and we've got to saybig game, and you know the big
(24:45):
contest on Sunday and the battle betweenthose two teams the second Sunday in February.
Like they have to do that sortof jumping through hoops through all of
their social media and on their website. Geez, I mean people are still
getting down there, I guess, but I guess they won't do it again.
No, I don't think it soundedlike it was a the Texans were
(25:08):
supposed to use it. Apparently theTexans had requested it and they were going
to do it there and then whenthey pulled out for whatever reason, they
canceled, the Raiders decided to justtake that slot. But it was a
very last minute thing, is whatI was told. It's not something that's
likely to happen again. There's yourcamp update Three Things Thursday, Sean McVeigh
(25:29):
mentored by Chris Peterson. Jim Harbaughis popular and we'll bring you your mouthpiece
and the Raiders can't say where theyare froll it on three thingsters. This
(25:51):
is nowhere and it's now it's timefor your get and a live guy Birthday
of the Day next and then we'llgive way to Fox Sports Radio. Thanks
listening, everybody, Well, thankyou for listening. Not a long show,
but the Dodgers prevail back to back, Jack's nikomed and show hey Otani
(26:11):
in the bottom of the eighth onthe air, it is time for the
Dead Guy Birthday of the Day beforewe give way to Fox Sports Radio.
Matt, what do you got?One of the gnarliest dudes, one of
the biggest badasses to have ever walkedto the earth. And I got through
most of it before I got toa portion of the bio that was like
Odo. But we will celebrate katoKiyomasa born Barnosuki yosh Amaru. Would you
(26:40):
want to buy him an oi ocha, Matt, he could use. I'd
like to buy him a giant superDubie is what I'd probably want to buy
him. Not everybody reacts the sameto marijuana. This is what was written
of Yo saw guy Paul a steakknife once in a recruiting trip. Remind
me next time not to give youthe league. He was a military This
(27:03):
is written of him. He wasa military man first and last, outlawing
even the reciting of poetry, puttingthe martial arts above all else. His
precepts show the single mindedness and spartanattitudes of the man. They demonstrate emphatically
(27:25):
that the warrior's first duty in theearly seventeenth century was simply to grasp the
sword and die. Born in Nagoya, father dies when he's young, so
he enters his uncle Toyotomi Hideyoshi's service. He was trying to overthrow and become
emperor of Japan. Black Samurai moviereally is by fifteen, he's a professional
(27:48):
warrior. He is paid to fdudes up at twenty. While taking part
in the Battle of Shizugatake, hekicked so much ass he earned the name
one of the Seven Speed after heand six others charged the entire army of
Shibata Katsui. You know I waspart of the Seattle Seven. It was
(28:08):
me and six other guys he Theyultimately in that battle gained control of Japan
for hide Yoshi. He led thecharge to knock out the Tokugawa clan.
After multiple campaigns against the Kyushu andShimazu, he was granted half of heigl
the Kuma Mato Castle, from wherehe ran that province. One of three
(28:33):
senior commanders during the Seven Years Waragainst Korea, he captured Seoul Usan and
many other cities, and defeated theLastralians back there, right, he did
it all. Battle of the InjinRiver was him. He led the Korean
king Snojo to abandoned soul as theytook over his hobbies. P He hunted
(28:56):
tigers for sport using nothing but aspear. He was a renowned castle builder,
built several strategic Japanese style castles duringthe Engine War and in the territories
he concert conquered. When the emperordied, Heideyoshi struggle for power. Two
generals courted his support, knowing itwould tip the scale in their favor.
(29:18):
He chose Leyasu over Mietsunari, butconstantly tried to mediate the differences between the
two warring factions. She was adevout Buddhist. Died at forty nine when
he fell ill abort a ship atsea. Now that sounds like some game
of Thrones could be into a littlebit, right, Hi, it's period
peaceful man. Well, Matt,if you thought that was a gnarly guy
(29:38):
of Gnarly's story day, let's takeit to Mexico for your a live guy
Birthday of the day. Forty nineyears old. Today, it's time for
Lucha libre. Tiempo mi and manosiand manas nos otros, because today we
celebrate Hejesus Crystal Ball Martinez Rodriguez Mexicanluchador known as El Zorro y forty nine
(30:07):
years old today. Yes, ElZorro. Although first he was paired with
a guy named Tarzan Boy James Altmantype, bounced around a lot, his
first federation folded. He worked everywhere, even in the WWF, without a
mask, but the same El Zorrostick, same character. He found success
(30:30):
in Lucha libre, which is onlyright because Matt he was born in Jaliska.
At first he was a mid cardjobber, maybe a low card jobber,
but he climbed his way up tothe Mexican Heavyweight championship, most famously
in his feud with mister Aguila. He won, and that was kind of
(30:55):
like his first big conquering of aguy. He also had a big storyline
with a guy named Charlie Manson whobeat him, shaved his head, and
put an ancient Mayan cursed slipknot lookingmask on him that would not come off.
No fooler. That does not seemlike a mid card jobber. Now
(31:15):
this is a big storyline. Theygave that mask, gave Manson mind control
over El Zorro. Oh yeah, that's pride. And then El Zorro became
evil and did the bidding of CharlieManson, which is bad. You know,
that's what happened to those kids rightnow. Zorro eventually overcame those evil
(31:38):
influences to prevail, and I guessyou could say he's done it all.
