men in our twenties, and of course he is with
the Dodgers tonight. He has Marongo Casino, Dodgers on Deck, content,
Dodger Clubhouse, Dodger Talk, and of course what a crazy
day with the press conference coming up in about an hour. Dave,

how's it going out there and what's the overall reaction
and the vibe in the building.

Well, a lot of people are shocked that this happened today.
I started to get some hints in the last week.
I told you guys, just two days ago, I was
doing Dodger Talk and I had never seen Clayton Kershaw
after a game in the middle of the night at
Dodger Stadium go out and earth or ground, taking his

shoes and socks off, and his shorts and T shirt
and do what he does before every start, walk out
of the dugout, make his way to the center field wall,
and then walk back in. And he not only was
doing that wandering, but he was also you know, taken
in the stadium, So that was a hint to me.
And then I told you guys that I asked him

on Sunday morning whether or not he considered that last
Saturday night was his final start in a place that
he dominated at Oracle Park, and he never shot me
down and said absolutely not, it wasn't my last. He
was very reflective, So those hints the last week or
so were telling me that this was going to be
his final season. And I had a chance to catch

up with Freddie Freeman earlier today and he reflected on
knowing for a month but being sworn to secrecy.

I've already got a Jersey's sign from him. Yeah, I've known,
but he told me to keep it a secret, and
he wanted to do it on his own terms.

And I didn't know when he was going to do it.

And I think, knowing knowing Clayton, I thought he would
just not even tell anybody and just retire. But I'm
glad he did so the fans and not only Dodger fans,
but all baseball fans could enjoy his last start here

just a heck of a career, just an awe of

Clayton Kershaw. And what Freddy said about letting the fans
know and let them want to do what they'd want

does seem like that's been a little bit of a

he invited rookie Jack Dryer and second year pitcher Emmit

they would get back home, he'd wait up for them.
They talk around the fire pit, and Emma Sheen actually
told me that's when he found out in just a
casual conversation, this was going to be hit for Kershaw.

What do you make of what Freddy said at the
end there, Dave that it's a team that's been struggling
a little bit. We asked Oral about this earlier, that this, maybe,
I don't know, puts a fine point on your focus
for the postseason and realizing that you can send Clayton
out the best way possible, you know, in a Dodger
uniform at Dodger Stadium, playing for a World Series championship.

Yeah, I feel like that is part of the reason,
maybe not the main one, that Clayton made this announcement.
I mean, this could be a rallying cry and a
motivating factor for the team. I also believe that last
night's performance by Blake Snell and him showing his teammates

men in our twenties, and of course he is with
the Dodgers tonight. He has Marongo Casino, Dodgers on Deck, content,
Dodger Clubhouse, Dodger Talk, and of course what a crazy
day with the press conference coming up in about an hour. Dave,

how's it going out there and what's the overall reaction
and the vibe in the building.
Speaker 8 (17:58):
Well, a lot of people are shocked that this happened today.
I started to get some hints in the last week.
I told you guys, just two days ago, I was
doing Dodger Talk and I had never seen Clayton Kershaw
after a game in the middle of the night at
Dodger Stadium go out and earth or ground, taking his
(18:19):
shoes and socks off, and his shorts and T shirt
and do what he does before every start, walk out
of the dugout, make his way to the center field wall,
and then walk back in. And he not only was
doing that wandering, but he was also you know, taken
in the stadium, So that was a hint to me.
And then I told you guys that I asked him
(18:41):
on Sunday morning whether or not he considered that last
Saturday night was his final start in a place that
he dominated at Oracle Park, and he never shot me
down and said absolutely not, it wasn't my last. He
was very reflective, So those hints the last week or
so were telling me that this was going to be
his final season. And I had a chance to catch
(19:04):
up with Freddie Freeman earlier today and he reflected on
knowing for a month but being sworn to secrecy.
Speaker 9 (19:12):
I've already got a Jersey's sign from him. Yeah, I've known,
but he told me to keep it a secret, and
he wanted to do it on his own terms.
Speaker 7 (19:20):
And I didn't know when he was going to do it.
Speaker 9 (19:23):
And I think, knowing knowing Clayton, I thought he would
just not even tell anybody and just retire. But I'm
glad he did so the fans and not only Dodger fans,
but all baseball fans could enjoy his last start here
on Dodger Stadium in the regular season tomorrow. So I mean,
just a heck of a career, just an awe of
(19:45):
when I first came into the league, getting to face him,
and then obviously coming over here, that all just gets
bigger and bigger watching him daily, go about his business,
what he does day in and day out, not only
on the field off the field, but he's done in
the communities.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
He's just a special person.
Speaker 9 (20:02):
So I'm just I'm very happy that I got to
spend four years with him, and it's incredible. Even in
his eighteenth year, we've counted on them every fifth or
sixth day in this season alone. So he's just I mean,
he's not a Dodgy legend, He's a baseball legend forever.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
And I mean, the greatest picture of our gentery.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
Yeah, Dave, you guys, As you know, Clayton Kershaw is
going to have a press conference that you're carrying live
at five point thirty. And I saw Clayton earlier today.
He was actually doing what he normally would do. He
was pitching to his oldest son Charlie in center field
at one thirty this afternoon, and as he walked in,
he broke the eyes and said, well, well, well, Dave,
(20:43):
it's all about me today.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Dave, you said our Freddie said it at the start there,
and you know him better than almost anybody on that team,
or as well as anybody on that team, that he
thought Clayton would just not tell anyone and that was
just going to be it and rapid at the end
of the season, whenever that might come. But it does
feel like this is a little bit of a different
Clayton Kershaw. And what Freddy said about letting the fans
know and let them want to do what they'd want
(21:08):
to do, and that celebrate him tomorrow night, and that
does seem like that's been a little bit of a
change with him.
Speaker 8 (21:14):
Yeah, because I think we all expected, like Freddie, that
he would just put a post out on his Instagram
page like he has done the last few years, announcing
that he is coming back, and I felt like that's
what we would all get from him this time. But
I'm happy that he's allowing the fans to celebrate him
because he didn't want it to be about himself. He
(21:34):
did not want one of these farewell tours. But at
least he's giving them this. And I'm not sure who
convinced him I'm sure it was Ellen that convinced him
that this would be the right move and the timing's perfect.
Tomorrow night, his final regular season start at Dodger Stadium,
and then on Saturday, it says Bobblehead night, celebrating his

three thousand strikeout. But also, guys, keep in mind, And
we asked Freddie this as well, whether or not this
is something of a rallying cry to win it for
Kershaw going out? He said, we want to win it anyway,
but yeah, that sounds good. We should win it for
Clayton going out.

Dave was Breddy the only guy that you talked.
Speaker 8 (22:14):
To, No, we talked to Max Munsey, and Munsey and
Keith Y Hernandez are the two guys that have played
with Clayton the most currently on this team. And here's
what Munsey had to say. And he also was very
reflective and somewhat emotional when he was asked about this
becoming a formality now that Clayton making it official that

he is retiring. Clayton making it official, does it make
it more real or more surreal that these are the
final days of his playing career.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (22:49):
I mean, I know he's saying it, and I know
it's kind of reality, but I still don't know that
I believe it, you know, just for as long as
I've been here, it's been to and uh, you know,
it's a you know, it's a weird day. Like I said,
it's a it's kind of a strange day. But you know,
at the end of the day, it's one of the

best careers that we've ever seen. And that's you know,
for me personally, having gotten to play behind him for
eight nine years now, it's uh truly.

A blessing to be able to witness up.

How did you find out?
Speaker 10 (23:24):
Some of us kind of knew for a little bit,
but uh, yeah, he sent a text everyone this morning,
just wanted to get ahead of it before the media
found out, and so most most of the guys found
out this morning.
Speaker 8 (23:36):
And guys, uh, I haven't shared this story, but when
Clayton's family was out of town during the last homestand
he invited rookie Jack Dryer and second year pitcher Emmit
Shehan to stay with him at his beach house in
the South Bay, and they would they stayed with him
in their house and Clayton would leave the stadium before
(23:57):
they would get back home, he'd wait up for them.
They talk around the fire pit, and Emma Sheen actually
told me that's when he found out in just a
casual conversation, this was going to be hit for Kershaw.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
What do you make of what Freddy said at the
end there, Dave that it's a team that's been struggling
a little bit. We asked Oral about this earlier, that this, maybe,
I don't know, puts a fine point on your focus
for the postseason and realizing that you can send Clayton
out the best way possible, you know, in a Dodger
uniform at Dodger Stadium, playing for a World Series championship.
Speaker 8 (24:33):
Yeah, I feel like that is part of the reason,
maybe not the main one, that Clayton made this announcement.
I mean, this could be a rallying cry and a
motivating factor for the team. I also believe that last
night's performance by Blake Snell and him showing his teammates
and the fans what he's all about, the way that

Dugout erupted certainly gave that electricity that the Dodgers have
been missing for a lot of the year. And then
in the eighth inning. After all that, tai Oscar Hernandez
went first to third for the first time in months.
So come on, I think snell Villa got everybody fired
up last night as well.

There is no doubt. You know, Matt Matt mentioned it
in the first hour, you know, he talked about how

It would he's special for him to have another parade
