Further, it is a Frogman Friday.

Frogmen, Frogmen, Frogmen.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Where there is c frog men, there is pirates. And
on a frog Man Friday, the Thatters Buddy Show discusses
one of the great things about living here in southern California,
the seed talk Man. Of course, here you got to
get over a bunch of hills and down into Malibu
or something. But we still love to see and palemage

(06:15):
to the Pacific Ocean, and.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
In particular, KINI I'm a pro man.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
We pay homage to a dear friend from yesteryear that
we've never met, Lloyd Bridges, who played the role of
the Great Mike Nelson and one of the greatest television
shows ever produced off the coast of Rancho Palaceartes Sea Hunt.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I don't make it, Mike.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
So where you found of manganese? I think so. But
get them in the sharks here, and I can always
tell when they're getting a little too curious.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
You have been in the water with a shark before.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Yeah, so far those guys.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
All right, Todd Light's down in touchestg Nuts.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
We still gotta take that FRDA man. You know what
that's like these days.

You got the Navy.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Everywhere, you got frogmen, you got the e C two
s with the satellite tracking, you got the bell two
nine of salt choppers up the ass.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
We're losing one out of every nine loads. That's no
duck walk anymore. Let me tell you, forget about money.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
What do you suggest that's reasonable? Tete Rold Dodger organist
with Seila Gya Gya gya guyer. No you doar doyer.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
Baerer doer doergers do you?

Speaker 3 (08:23):

Don McClain, hero of the.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Eight oh five, will be lost centerpiece.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Don't be afraid to approach Don McLean though he is
surly and mean. Jonas knocks our friend from Fox Sports
Radio and in the first hour here at the end
of the first hour, the La Times high school player
of the year. Sure Michigan got a little bit of
a slap on the wrist today, but I don't think
that's gonna stop his commitment. Brady Smigel, Newbury Park quarterback,

(09:01):
a beloved young man in the area will come on.
We haven't talked to a meaningful quarterback in town since
dj Ouyngalale.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
And look what we did for that kid's career.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
He's going to be playing tomorrow a Sofi stadium. How
about that?

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
It's never been possible without the Petrussen Money Show.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Thank you so much everybody for being here and being
a part of this. As we've get started, Ronnie a
little accompaniment please again, we are streaming. We are live
all the way up here in Thousand Oaks th Tarantula Hill. Now,
I was very disappointed so many years ago to find
out that the Tarantula Hill Brewing Company and brewery here

(09:44):
in restaurant and ice cream parlor and all the things
they have going on is not on Tarantula Hill. Tim
Kats explained this to me a long time ago when
he told me about Tarantula Hill during the pandemic.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Oh, you're planting the various seeds with David Vessai. No,
well not just. The first person to mention Tarantula Hill
to me was Tim.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Kaits, And when I heard it in my mind's eye,
I thought of it as being on a hill, as
I am very hill and gully rider oriented. As you know,
Tarantula Hill is somewhere around here, the actual place, and
what that way? Everybody's just pointing that way? What is
that northeast? Which way? Which way?

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Way? You're pointing that way? We have one what is
this the fan of Tuba? That's not cool.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
That's information. I trust John right here. He's a local,
he's a guy. Yeah, He's like, it's right there, it's
right over here. So if I started.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Walking, how long there's some people smoking we if.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
I started walking, how long would I have to walk
until I reached Tarantula Hill?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Thirty or forty minutes? You said most people twenty minutes
for you thirty r F. That was a fat joke
that you got a fistbound from the town down.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Well done, John.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Tarantula Hill is somewhere in Thousand Oaks amongst the white people.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
But kill the white people.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
It is somewhere else.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
This brewery that is deep in our Koda zone in
beautiful downtown to dtto downtown, Thousand Oaks. No hill, but
the hill is somewhere, And I don't know if there's
any tarantulas on is there.

Speaker 5 (11:32):
Looks like northwest p is where that would be northwest
three hundred and sixteen degrees, pulled out.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
His phone compass. What's that? God, at least we're saying
right there, I'll get you there.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
We've also discussed the history of the area here in
Thousand Oaks, but it's kind of sad. It's a Norwegian
family that made this place like a Norwegian kind of enclave.
But they were too far from the valley where there
was a doctor, and like eight of their ten children
died huff diphtheria. So they left the area and donated

(12:08):
their plot of land to what is modern day cal
Lutheran University, and every year Cal Lou I believe, still
has a Norwegian fest where people chew whale fat to
honor the family that was once here. And I think
some of the streets are named after the family. But
also how many of you have ever been across the

(12:31):
street in the same direction that Tarantula Hill is to
the Tipsy Goat. Oh, there's a few Tipsy Goat types,
a couple enthusiastic people. I do have to say, we
are well healed and mature crowd here across Thousand Oak
Boulevard at Tarantula Hill. I mean, this is a nice place.

(12:53):
I even saw a guy with a service dog a
little while back. And we have a full bar that
goes all the way around the corner there. We absolutely
love that, so here we want for nothing.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Unbelievable, It's an unbelievable setup.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
But I did do some reconnoitering not long ago, a
couple weeks back, and I was at my wife's my
why thirty year high school reunion right across the street
here at the Tipsy Goat, and I what I understand
is that the people in charge of the reunion tried

(13:28):
to book Tarantula Hill, but they were too late and
they got rebuffed, which is a lesson, Matt. If you
want to book a space here at Tarantula Hill, get
ahead of it. You gotta be like Tim Kaine's and
get here early and stake your claim, like like Far
and Away starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in happier times.

(13:53):
But in my reconnoitering, I did witness this around ten
o'clock on the weekend, and a real yc a real
young crowd shows up at the Tipsy Goat and they
start vaping hard and the DJ was blaring nineties rap
music hard vaping, hands on the floor, booty shaking from

(14:18):
the young people at the Tipsy Goat, and real kid
in playstyle nineties dancing too exuberant dancing from the nineties
that I guess you see again in the young of
today and a couple weeks ago. You can imagine you
know it's nighttime. You squint your eyes. I was over

(14:39):
there in the front patio of the Tipsy Goat while
my wife was talking to her friends from high school,
and people were just vaping so hard and doing their
nineties dancing, and I was staring across the street longingly,
wanting to come here to Tarantula Hill my wife, where
I'm more familiar and feel like more of an embraced person.

(15:05):
But now that time to have a great time at
Tarantula Hill is now. So we're gonna do our kind
of dancing with a great partner.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
You know.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Look, every year I do the last dance of the season.
Only this year somebody told me not to.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
But I'm gonna do my kind of dancing with a
great partner, Miss Baby Houseman.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
I want winners.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Thank you for making me baby.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
We're gonna have a great time here on Thousand Oaks tonight,
So thank you all of you for being here. We
will not forgive you. If you go over to vape
at the Tipsy, go to ten o'clock, I'll be long home.
Mostly white people over there too, what It is an
exuberant crowd, and we're happy to all be together here

(15:58):
in the here, in the the Rantla Hill. Don't go
over there unless you want to get your face baited
cleaned off. And I had no idea that downtown Thousand
Oaks was plowing off so hard.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
You apologize to him.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
No, So in the very next segment, we'll do a
top story of the day, set the tone, where we'll
talk about the Dodgers and the Dodgers struggles and why
the Dodgers are struggling and who is to blame for it,
and why Matt and I have to carry the load
of negativity with all these live shows while the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
Are in a terrible free fund exactly, they're doing us
no favors. P. I think these folks would be a
lot more exuberant and in a party in mood if
the Dodgers were a couple games up on the padres instead.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
You know what's tight, you know what's tight. You can
see it by the way they're sitting.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
Well drinking liquid candy hazy ipa as our crowd fills
in and sit back and relax because we are going
to do a couple hours.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Plus more great sports, talk of great.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Sports top and we're giving away all the prizes. We're
giving away all those prizes, so stay tuned for that.
I don't know what you're gonna give away during this
break right here.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Well, your friend Chuck said that he's got to cut out,
so he wants to try to win this guy right away.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
The two guys sitting right in the front, those guys,
and to a lesser degree, secondarily, the two guys behind
him on this front table. They're all spread out so
no one else could come there. They're all they got
the wide stance like the one politician in the stall.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Well, they got the isle in the window. And that's fine,
it'll sea still available.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
Those guys are what I picture each and every one
of our listeners looking like yes at all times. Yes,
And maybe that's why my disposition is the way it is.
But God, bless you all, thank you for being here.
We're gonna have a fun time. Thank you to Tarantula Hill,
which is a great and thriving venue. And thank you
to our great sponsors who are part of the PMS

(17:56):
Summer tour. Toyota Sweet, James bergener I heled Fork Foods,
Barry from Barry's Tickets, and Surfside Lemonade and Vodka, Surfside
Iced Tea in vodka and if you're crazy, Surfside iced Tea.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Lemonade and all three in the same camp.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
All are welcome. Thank you for being here, and we'll
be right back with more great sports talk. We'll give
away surprises and do the top story of the day coming.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Up, Mack.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer. Make AM five seventy or your favorite
AM five seventy LA Sports podcast a preset on the
iHeartRadio app using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto road trip
all summer with LA Sports.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Having a good time with the people, making our way
through the crowd here at Tarantula Hill Brewing in Thousand Oaks, Oh,
it is filling in.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
The people are excited. It's a wonderful crew. We're taking
a trip down memory lane. People went in trips to Hawaii,
Dodger you just give away a trip to Hawaii?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Is that what just happened?

Speaker 5 (19:01):
We gave away a trip about five years ago to
Hawaii at Golden Road, and it was right during COVID.
And remember you had to like get a test and
you had to go through this customs thing when you
got to Hawaii, and they were just like, whatever flipped
it to their sister, You deal with it. But a
benevolent act by the beautiful folks right here. So and
then we were talking about when we went to the

(19:22):
Floyd Mayweather Oscar de la Hoya fight Pe and we
were like, hey, that's a long time ago. Well A,
we fell asleep for a little bit because we were
so draw a lot of drink, and then b we
started recognizing people around us were getting a little unruly
and a little yeah we.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Got out of there.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
We were like we got the race ride between the
Mexicans and we were like we got to get out
of here day La Joya versus Mayweather respectively.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
And we were we played it smart. We chose wisely.
I remembered did loose out there? Now?

Speaker 4 (19:46):
I seen on the on the stream a lot of
people are criticizing my my shirt, like I'm supporting the Padres.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Oh, it is very Padre.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
I didn't think of that. Does it look like a
Padres shirt?

Speaker 2 (19:58):
It does.

Speaker 5 (19:59):
It's got the brown, the yellow, and the orange, and
I think that's what it is. It's orange with the
How about.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
That, Maybe that's the only way we'll be able to reverse.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
The car Oh, I was thinking you just take it off?

Speaker 1 (20:09):
No?

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Oh, okay, mister arms, all right, it is time for
the top story of the day to sorry of it.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
All right, pee, let's uh, let's get the folks prepared
here because.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Important. Here we go.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
I see all the Dodger jerseys out there, the Dodger caps,
some Brooklyn some jerseys of your favorite players, the Mookie bets.
You even see the city connect with the funfetti there
on there. We've got that role and a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
A lot of people spent a lot of money on
Dodger gears. Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Now, does it suck the Dodgers slipped out of first place? Yes, yes,
of course it does. Is it a bit stressful that
they can't seem to put all three phases together in
a ball game, pitching, hitting, and defense at the same time.
You bet it does. If they have anything less than
a three run lead in the late innings. Are you
going to have that tight feeling in your midsection because

(21:03):
this bullpen can't hold the lead?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Of course you are.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
But that's what makes a series like this in mid
August must see, must listen on your home of the
World Series Champion Dodgers AM five seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Instead of the Dodgers being up.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
You're saying that you appreciate the intrigue of the Dodger
season faltering because we actually have something to talk about
and cling to in what otherwise would be the dog
days of summer.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Isn't this great?

Speaker 5 (21:33):
Exactly right, Pee, We wouldn't be talking about the Dodgers
if they were twelve games up, building on their nine
game lead, once again cruising to another NL West crown.
And everybody's saying the same thing. They would always say,
wake me up when September ends, because I'll be here
for October baseball. Instead, we not only have the first

(21:55):
games against the Padres. It's been a while, it has
it's been so long that I wonder, and I decided
we would take a little trip down memory lane to
remind everyone the way the last series at Chavez Ravine
unfolded against the Padres, a four gamer that ran from
June sixteenth. Oh that was a happier time Drue June nineteenth,

(22:18):
the Dodgers winning. They pummeled the Padres in the first
two contests. There was a blown lead in the top
of the ninth and the third game followed up by
a Will Smith pinch hit walk off home run. For
some reason, that only happens at home games. When they
have the walk off, you can't. It's very difficult, very hard.
No one's ever done it. No one's said you can't

(22:39):
do it. That would break the strength that they're very,
very difficult to walk it off on the road. If
they did, it would certainly change their fortunes and in
the financial the game Matt the Padres salvaged one of
the four games. The wins were huge, of course, pe
but remember it was the dramatics that happened around the game.

(23:00):
The BS press conferences with fat Mike Shilt running his
mouth bitching about his guys getting hit while dismissing.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I think you really, I mean, you've really taken a
hard stance against Mike Shilt. I mean I'm not saying
I have. I mean you've really gone hard against the man.
He's just a baseball manager.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
I mean, I don't like it. He looks like one
of our listeners.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
I don't like the cut of his gym, and it's
hard dismissing Andy pa Has being plunked as just a
baseball that got away and that the Dodgers need to
get over it. That was the last time these teams tangled,
and it was glorious. It was a reminder that Cubs,
Cardinals yawn Red Sox Yankees shirt ten years ago. Maybe

(23:44):
that Dodgers Podres is the series that the eyes and
the ears of the baseball universe tunes into MLB network.
I am sure is focused solely on these three games
over the weekend because it has become the best tangle
in baseball. Dodgers Padres, it's the best story baseball hat

(24:07):
and it's not close. Remember pe June sixteenth, pa Hez
doubles to center field off Dylan Ceese and what does
he do a little bit too much of the Freddie
Freeman gy raiding, a little bit too much of the
sho Hao Tany Cosmetics commercial.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
I don't like the young Cuban showing out the way
he did.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
Exactly because he was a young Cuban at that time.
He had not announced himself as a borderline All Star
and a guy that might be the best hitter on
the team for about a month's right, And even if
that is the case, he is still a rookie and
a young Cuban. And so Dylan Ceese what does he do?
He bubbles Pahes in the fourth inning as he is
the batter after months, he just knocked in TiO Hernandez

(24:50):
and Will Smith Paz takes exception to it. Mike Shilt
on camera recall says, who the f do you think
you are? Remember that he barks that at Andy pyees,
who the f do you think you are? And good
on the Spectrum Sportsnet cameras for being trained right on
that fat face of his when he said, who the

(25:11):
f do you think you are?

Speaker 4 (25:14):
And you're writing a lot of checks about Shilt with
your mouth. I am the Dodgers win the game six three.
Shilt's not gonna take Cody to this if he hear's
this after your Drive show headed to Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Dad, I hope he's listening, because we fast forward to
June seventeenth, and do we remember who.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Was calling me a fat face on that Dodger station.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Do we remember how Andy Piez answered fat face Mike Shilt,
I don't I don't he Homer in his first at
bad a bomb the left center field.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
That's who the F I am? Mike Schelt Andy Piez,
And don't you forget it. It was one of the
greatest answers to one of the greatest questions ever asked
of a Dodger player, Who the f do you think
you are?

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Here's your answer? Home run left center field.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Not not unlike the old mister irre irrelevant profar on
the other way, exactly controversy of and that was a
David Vasse authored controversy.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
A Will Smith called it.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
I started hitting a bunch of jacks and they started
selling T shirts and all that.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
Oh yeah, And the best thing about Andy Pie's home
run is his answer to Mike Shilt. Just to make
sure the Padres got the message, Luis Trevino plunks Tatis
in the bottom half of the in or top half
of the next inning, says it was a pitch that
got away from him. Ninety five high and tight, tough
one for Tautista wear, and apparently.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
It feels like ancient history before that lead evaporated. Matt exactly.
I get what you're trying to do here, though you're
trying to remind that the scene, you're trying to remind
the Dodgers of who they used to be.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
The Dodgers, apparently, according to Mike shild aren't allowed to
have a pitcher lose control of a pitch against a
guy who crowds the plate because Shilt got panties in
a bunch and in the bottom of half of that inning,
p We'll never forget Vasquez. The hell does he think
he is? Drill's Otani show, hay Otani. I do remember
that ninety three mile an hour four seamer, and Otani

(27:15):
showed a great deal of restraint and class, a true gentleman.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
Right Yeah. I went around and like shook everybody's hands.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
And he was like, hey, we're good.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
He looks to the dugout he says, stay there.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
He looks into the padre dugouts signals all right, we
even huh push push, We're good.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Let's continue to play the game.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
And bottom of the fourth just to drag it across
Schildt's face, what does Paz do he Homer's a good
one of the all time great individual performances, if not
the greatest individual performance by a Dodger this season.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
I don't remember us being that excited about it in
the mallment, But now now in retrospect, when you see
the way things have gone and the way things are
positioned in the present, right, I guess it does feel
like something to celebrate. They need to rediscover that swing
into the midsection that they had back in mid June.
It was sheer humiliation for Mikey Shilt at this point.

(28:14):
Next it bad for Pahz single pouring it on eight
to three, a two RBI single, a three hit game
for Paz, and then just to make sure, Matt Soer
hits Jose Iglesias with a ninety five mile an hour sinker.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
The Dodgers win eight six.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
They win the next night, as I mentioned earlier on
that Will Smith Pinch hit home run in the bottom
of the ninth, and then what happens p the next day,
the fourth game, after the Dodgers are looking for a
four game sweep over the Pods, who had been doing
nothing but belly aching about what bad guys they are
and what bad baseball?

Speaker 2 (28:52):
This is three nothing.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
Padres Trevino again in the seventh ninety one mile an
hour cutter where at John's in top of the ninth,
they're up five to nothing. That rookie kid, remember he
looked like he saw a ghost. Little hits Tatis with
a ninety six mile an hour fastball. And that's when
fat Shilt comes juggling his belly out of the dugout
and Dave Roberts he starts barking at him. Remember David

(29:16):
rob not like he shoves them, That's not like he's
Charlie Weisse.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Oh he's a giant jomn.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Not that fat.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
He stepped up to Dave Roberts and his barking in
his face. And let's not forget what does Doc do.
He doesn't back down, he doesn't throw his pitching coach
in between him. He takes his four arm right to
the chest.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
Do yeah, that was very shoves him. I do remember
that this was fantastic. A ninety five mile an hour.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Fastball at the last shoulder the last time they faced
each and last time they faced each other. And then
we can't forget pee it's five to two in the
bottom of the ninth right three nothing count on sho
hey o Tani. Obviously Suarez is gonna walk him. And
what does he do ninety nine mile an hour fastba

(30:00):
I'll damn near hit him in the head. He took
it right off the top shoulder, had to turn away.
Bench is clear Otani again stopped pump the brakes.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Kershaw was the first guy over.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
Yes, but this is when the Dodgers had swaggering. This
is why the Dodgers are reading articles about how they're
gonna win one hundred and twenty games. Now, people like
Roger Launch, you're making fun of the Dodgers free falling
their quote unquote gazillion dollar payroll and they can't even
beat the lowly Angels. For sen we must rediscover the

(30:34):
moments that made this season feel special. Pe And there
was no more special feeling.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
It hasn't spelt special since early July.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
That's what we're talking about. Mid June is where we
need that.

Speaker 5 (30:46):
You get mister Peabody going and Sherman and let's get
in the way back machine and let's go back to
June sixteenth through June nineteenth and remind Tatis who's been
hit by the Dodgers six times, six timesimes. Listen, I
know Clayton Kershaw isn't pumping ninety five mile an hour
heat right now, but I say, just to send a

(31:06):
message right between the numbers.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
Wow, man, you're already calling first that bat right between
the numbers?

Speaker 3 (31:13):
How do you, Kurt?

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Send the message?

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Kurt?

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Now?

Speaker 4 (31:16):
I mean, that's exactly exactly right, p Johnny Lefever. That
is what this team needs.

Speaker 5 (31:22):
A Kershaw like eighty six mile an hour four seam
fastball right there between the numbers. And I will say this,
how could you people clap for that flat four m
clap four exactly right?

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Do not?

Speaker 4 (31:35):
This is a dangerous game to throw that hard baseball
and a young San Diego.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
And here's why he should do it, pee, because I
was reading the San Diego Union Tribune and the exceptional
columnist Kevin.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
Ace, the San Diego Union Trip exactly right. That's a
great Yeah, that's a free paper, but it's a good one.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
The locals call it the s dutt And when Ace
had a one on one with Tatis and he said
he was asked by Ac, why aren't you charging the mound?
And I will, I will tip my cap to Tatis
Junior and say, and here's big Clavis. That's right, he said,
quote I could charge the mount, but there's a reason

(32:12):
why I've been holding myself because if I go out there,
I ain't gonna talk to him.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
If I go out there, I'm gonna lose it.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
And you know how that And we know about Tatis, right,
we know he was suspended for those seventy games.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
He's a juicer.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
So you know when the juicer losing all royd it
up and you get that roid range exactly. I mean
we all we've had that, friend. How are you leading
me on? You're looking at my chick. You know you
never not to punch a hole in the dry wall.
So good on Tatis, the roid guy, the Juicer for
being able to control himself and not charge the mound
if he has to wear an eighty three mile an

(32:51):
hour fastball from Clayton Kershaw tonight in the top of
the first night, all weekend long right here, I'm your
Home of the World Series Dodgers AM five seventy LA
Sports seven to ten tonight, six o'clock tomorrow, one o'clock
on Sunday, Kersshaw Now Matt Wail Zillah.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Glass, let me ask you a question, Mats.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Since you know Matt Matt usually he does gymnastics to
find something positive, got to dig to talk about. Because
the Dodgers are flailing. Let us know, Matt had to
go back to the beginning of the summer and all
the way back to June sixteenth to nineteenth when I
ate my pride cake and the suite uh and the

(33:32):
Dodgers we have on video and the Dodgers beat the Padres. Now,
now all that being said, Matt, will we be able
to tell right away tonight if they have that swagger,
if the Dodgers have fire, if they're fire eaters like
the South Carolinians. Will we be able to know that
the Dodgers have girded their loins and are ready for

(33:55):
an epic battle on a five seventy LA sports. Will
we know if they're lacking daisical and flat to start
out the contests?

Speaker 5 (34:04):
Well, I think there's only one way, Pete, and that
is when Clayton Kershaw takes that ball.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
It's seven to ten.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
Now, would you be disappointed if nobody gets the ball
thrown at them tonight?

Speaker 3 (34:14):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Incredible.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
So it's not like you're really I mean, they need
to rediscover their swagger.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
They have lost their swagger. I mean by the angels.
The Lodge made fun of them. For God's say, that
is true. When Roger Lodge is clowning you on an
Instagram video, you have to.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Commit an act to rediscover your swag.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
You're in a tough spot. But that being said, Matt,
I mean all that being said.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Right between the two and the three, right in the
middle of.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
The almost like like being like, hey, how did you
guys do in the hockey game? It's like, well, we lost,
but but.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
We won all the fights exactly right.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
That doesn't that's not helping the Dodger situation. They're in
a divisional battle with the padres, okay, and and and
throwing the ball off Taktisa's giant clavicle, right is not?

Speaker 3 (34:56):
That doesn't guarantee victor.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
To your hockey analogy, what is worse losing the game
and not winning all the fights, or losing the game
and winning all the fights.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
If it's either or, I don't mean if you see
what I mean, but I don't know if it is.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
I believe a plunking by Kershaw and a stare down
by the old man with his old man body and
his big belly, just looking right at Tatis, who's all
swollen and ready to charge because he's all roided up.
You know, that sets the tone that lets the rest
of the Dodgers know this is no regular season sit
call for violence, exactly right.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Not surprised that's such a tumultuous time.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
By such a small, nonviolent man.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Well soon, I mean, if we were outside, Matt would
reveal his arms. Now we might have to wait till
next Friday at the van.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Oh, we'll be outside for Matt.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
To unfurnili his arms when I'll tell you one thing.
I'm leaving by Padres shirt off.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
I wasn't.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
I wasn't trying to wear a shirt that pisses people off.
But now that I know, I'm leaving this hot all night.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
I got a tank top in the in the back.
It's gonna look like a sports brad.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
All right.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
We'll be back with more great sports top up and
running at our first hour. Everybody seems to be situated.
We have our normal crowd here in Thousand Oaks. I
believe they set up the outdoor area, Matt for the
people that are not involved with our show. Oh nice,
So I don't think there's any speakers for these people
out here. You know, they have a nice balsamic, they're talking.

(36:20):
They got the kids out there with the coloring books. Yeah,
but I do know that the back Patio, which is
a pop off spot that opens at five, and we'll
have DJ Santana out there to rival the Tipsy Fox
right across SAT.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
No chance, right, oh, no chance.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
They got no change.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
I mean their DJ doesn't even start spinning till ten.
We got five hours on that son of a bit loser.
We're gonna open up in five right back there with
DJ Santana. Thank you everybody for being here in beautiful
thousand Oaks at Tarantula Hell, one thousand Oaks Boulevard. We'll
be right back with the best young cornerback in all
of California, committed to me Michigan. The LA Times High

Next week will be the finale down at the Van's headquarters.
Today we are at Tarantula Hill brewing a thousand oaks,

(38:18):
and when we come to the eight o five p
somehow we managed to dig up eight oh five royalty.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
Well, it made sense because if you come up here
and it's only like a couple minute drive from where
the young man lives, the number one quarterback in California
lose here in the eight oh five, and it is
Brady Smigel. We've been watching this kid play since his
freshman year. He's been starting for his dad at Newbury

(38:43):
Park since he was a freshman. Gigantic recruit. We talked
about it when he decommitted from Florida State. We knew
he'd be the number one quarterback recruit in the country.
He has committed verbally to the University of Michigan because
you can't sign until signing Day. They just won a
CIF championship. He got one more year of high school

(39:07):
football to do battle with. I don't know who that
I haven't looked at the schedule. Maybe the Pioneers, maybe
Royal High, maybe the Pumpkin of Calabasas Westlake Warriors. I
don't know who they're gonna play, probably all of them.
It is Brady Smigel on your Southern California Toyota Dealer
celebrity had set on the Petrust and Money Show. A

(39:28):
good friend of Trent McClain. You know they's be telling me,
Thank you, Brady. Now, Matt, when was the.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
Last time we had a young quarterback?

Speaker 3 (39:37):
You hit it?

Speaker 5 (39:38):
We were in Downy at the Rock and bruising Downey
when DJ Yueyungola Lea came out to see us with
his father and UH and coach Negro. We had LaMelo
ball and he was the number one recruit in the
nation went to Clemson.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
LaMelo ball was out.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
We don't you know, you gotta be a pretty damn
good high school athlete, pretty nationally impactful to make it
onto this stage.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Damn it all.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
So a guy like you, Brady, who's been you know,
you've been around for like four years, which is not
usual for a high school football player to have people
know who they are for four years. You're throwing for
Penn State and USC when you were fourteen fifteen years old.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
So what's it like now?

Speaker 4 (40:19):
You know, a mature guy that can do interviews and
all that stuff, and you got a whole year of
high school football left.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
How are you approaching it?

Speaker 7 (40:25):
No, it's great. I mean there were options to go
to other schools, and I really wanted to just come
to Newbury Park. You know, I grew up here in
Newry Park, I got to play with all my buddies.
But being able to play as a freshman of varsity
and just being allowed my brother with me. My dad
is not a coaches who dream come true. So really
just awesome sit scenario.

Speaker 4 (40:42):
And that is an interesting scenario, right because the balance
of wanting to play where you grew up, wanting to
play with the people you grew up with, and getting
enough eyeballs on you to get the scholarship offers that
you want, those are two things that you had to
spend a lot of time figuring out.

Speaker 7 (40:59):
Yes, sir, I mean I don't really believe in that.
I believe if you're the guy, then they'll find you.
I mean Newbury Park, they weren't very great when my
dad took over the job. So just being able to
rebuild that spot and build it with guys from the
eight oh five is really special.

Speaker 5 (41:11):
So you get to do the banquet circuit last year,
you get to be the champion champion, you get the
Mister Football Award. UH kind of walk us through what's
left for you to do your your senior year after
you accomplished so much last year.

Speaker 7 (41:23):
You know, just take it day by day, get better
every single day. I'm blessed to have Cameron Rising as
my offensive coordinator. What an opportunity that I have to
have him by my side, watching film with him, doing
drills with him every day. So just being able to
get better every day is the plan right now, and
just getting ready for a game. We got one in
seven days.

Speaker 5 (41:38):
No, I mean, like, literally, is there anything left for
you to do? You want to see if championship you won? Mister, like,
is there anything that you didn't do last practice tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (41:46):
You know what I mean? Though?

Speaker 5 (41:46):
Is there anything that like you didn't accomplish that that
you can still achieve this year? Besides another championship? Another
mister wins, more more wins, maybe a few more touchdown
for us. You know, it might be sneaking over a.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Couple of years. Let's get a couple on the ground.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
It is an unbelievable quarterback.

Speaker 4 (42:03):
You talk about Newbury Park and it's you know what's
what we love to celebrate because it's a public school.
So you have a great lineage of quarterbacks from Newberry Park.
When I was in high school, we watched Keith Smith
and what a star he was and going to Arizona
and then Wayne Cook right before that, Cam Rising and yourself.

(42:27):
Do you guys have like a secret meeting or anything
like that? Have you Have you ever been in the
same room with all those guys at once? And what
is it about cornerbacks in the area, because there's no
quarterback lineage from Royal High for any place like that.

Speaker 7 (42:40):
Well, you're forgetting when we have Bengal Branson too. He's
a starter at Stanford. Now he was at Oregon State.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
So there you go.

Speaker 3 (42:47):
What slipped through the wickets on me? I got.

Speaker 7 (42:49):
I gotta give him credit. He's a great dude as well,
and he was a great football player at Newbury Park.
But yeah, I mean no, we have not had a
meeting with all of us, but yeah, we all got
coached by Keith Smith back when we were younger, back
in high school. And then just being able to communicate
with Ben and Kim and what they've gone through, just
being through the process of college is a great person
to have, for sure.

Speaker 5 (43:06):
I'm sure a lot of people Brady here and listening
on the radio kind of find it fascinating because recruiting,
I mean, I remember, we've been doing this long and
it's coming up on our twentieth year when we'd think,
you know, talk about the fax machines and the letter
of intent. It's changed so much. What is it like
being recruited now? How competitive is it even after you're committed?
Kind of what's happening in that world? And how did

(43:28):
you end up settling on Michigan now?

Speaker 7 (43:30):
I mean, yeah, it's unbelievable, especially with the nil I
was telling him earlier. I was committed to Florida State,
and you just try to recruit guys, Hey, come and
play here, really good offense, and then you go over
to Michigan. We're really good academics, the alumni and everything,
and people. Really it's hard because people really don't care
about that as much, ay anymore. They really care about
their contracts and how much money they're going to get.
So it's extremely hard.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
What was your other question?

Speaker 2 (43:52):
Yeah, that hits it.

Speaker 5 (43:52):
Whatever, I'll follow up with that, because you know, some
things happen at Michigan just kind of I don't know,
you don't want to dig too deep into that, but
did you go to the Big House?

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Were you there for a game? Was there something that?
Like what day was it? What when were you there?
And like what was it that solidified that's where I
want to be.

Speaker 7 (44:07):
Yeah. So I went there before with my twin brother,
my parents. I loved it there. I just think the
rich history, the alumni, the offense that they play in.
Coach Lindsay he recruited me at North Carolina and he's
taking over this year. He's a They obviously like to
run the ball, but he's more pass heavy, so I
think they're going to be bringing air raid more to
the offense. But just being able to go out there
for the second time bring my sisters. I really couldn't

(44:28):
make a decision until I brought the entire family out there.

Speaker 1 (44:31):
Oh yeah, the Smigles.

Speaker 7 (44:32):
We got all six us out there, and we knew
pretty quickly, all six of us there and right away.
I mean, I would say three hours into the visit
on the first day, I ended up committing. When I
got home, I was actually at Sushi Oaks out here
in Newbury Park. Shout out SUSI Sushi Oaks Oaks. Yeah,
but uh, I ended up committing there. I called Coach Moore,
but yeah, I'm we got all six of us out there,
and I pretty much knew this was the spot.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
Right you know, it's it's interesting because you bring up
the recruiting and it's so because in college sports, regardless
of what everybody's saying in the back rooms, everything up
front is integrity.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
And the truth and justice and doing the right thing.

Speaker 4 (45:09):
But most of these coaches are trying to get you
to go back on your word to somebody else, you know,
which is a very interesting thing. And when you're seventeen
years old and you're sitting across from a guy you
see on TV a whole bunch who makes ten million
dollars a year and he says I want you, it's
not hard to say yeah, I'm coming and then end

(45:29):
up decommitting. What was it like decommitting from Florida State?
How hard was that conversation and out because we talked
about it on the show when it happened, How free
did you feel afterwards?

Speaker 7 (45:39):
I mean, yeah, you know, it wasn't easy at all.
I really love those guys over at Florida State, and
it just wasn't the fit for me anymore. I truly,
I don't regret anything. I think that was the right
spot for me at the time. But they're struggling a
lot of my class. I mean, I was one of
the last guys in my twenty twenty sixth class that
stayed committed. I really wanted to end up going there,
and it just ended up not working out. I had
a really good relationship with them there recruiting me since

(46:00):
I was a freshman in high school, so that wasn't
an easy phone call at all. But being able to
open my recruitment back up after a good junior year
definitely opening for sure.

Speaker 4 (46:09):
At least you made the call and didn't just tweet
it out and wait for him to wake up and
see it.

Speaker 7 (46:13):
I had a FaceTime like a man.

Speaker 3 (46:15):
Yeah, like a man. Let me do that.

Speaker 7 (46:17):
I have to make sure to call him.

Speaker 4 (46:18):
Yeah. Shane Rosenthal is a guy we were talking about
during the break. He did everything for you guys, returning
and catching the ball, and he's at UCLA and you're
still at Newbury Park. How do you replace that guy?

Speaker 3 (46:32):
Have you guys.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
Reloaded with skill position? And who do you open up against?
Like you said in seven.

Speaker 7 (46:37):
Days, Yeah, you can't replace Shane. Shane is a guy
that you're never going to see around here ever. Again,
I don't believe, and I think he breaks all the
records for California receiving and pretty much every single aspect,
so replacing him is impossible. I do think we have
a really good receiver crew, a lot of guys that
are coming in, a lot of transfers that are really good,
really smart guys. They do have to sit five games,

(46:57):
which is going to be hard for no little diversity
for us who was playing receiver in the first five game.
A lot of tight ends, a lot of twelve personnel
running the ball, just like what my dad wants, you know,
how beautiful whole line head coach, you know wants to
run the ball.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
So who do you guys open up against?

Speaker 7 (47:15):
Long Beach Millican? We were taking a Yes, they That
was my very first year down there. We are going
to Long Beach.

Speaker 1 (47:23):
That was my very first high school game ever.

my head coach for all three sports in my entire life. Yeah,

a little bit, but he wants to do it, and
he's a great coach. He does a really good job
and we have a wonderful staff. So just being able
to do one last round. We got three or four
