Speaker 1 (00:00):
That show some money.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hey, im five seventy LA Sports live everywhere on the
iHeartRadio app and live today currently on the field at
Dodgers Stadium with David Vasse DV. Been a heck of
a day today, done four hours starting at three. This
is our final hour. We'll go untill seven pm and
then remember tomorrow four thirty pm. Dodgers on deck with
a first pitch coming up at five thirty eight. The

(00:22):
DS is underway and of course you will only hear
it here on your home with the Dodgers and show
hail TONI in the postseason A five to seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
I feel like this entire day is me getting behind
the scenes pass for Matt money Smith. I've been so
nervous the entire day that you are going to get
a celebrity pass ripped off, you know, like when everybody
asked me for batting practice passes. You know, I'm always
concerned they might misbehave and just ruin everything. And that's

(00:50):
how I have felt with you.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well, I'll say this, Dave, I have done my best
to sabotage your relationships with your many baseball contacts that
you have cultivated over the years. And your celebrity and
the fact that people love you as much as they
do was able was able to I guess exercise that
if I could say that, I think that's probably the
best way to put it. You overcame what I tried

(01:12):
to do to drag you down. And yet here we
are on the field, and you are still employed by
the Dodgers, and all your friends still like you.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
This is the deepest inland you have been in quite
some time, correct, the land of the ocean, and this
is city deep for Matt money Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Well, I'll say this, Dave. I said it when I
came up. It is odd, and it's not odd if
you live by the beach. But it's a twenty degree difference.
And it's six o'clock right now. It's six o'clock right now,
which is essentially a half hour after game time. It's
gonna be hot. Shadows are gonna come into play. We're
gonna hear that a lot in the broadcast. I'm just
prepping the people for these shadows and as they move

(01:50):
exactly exactly right from the pitcher's mound back across home plate,
and what that might do to the top of the order.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Before those things disappear.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
But you can just feel it, man, Like I know
there's four games tomorrow and the Yankees are playing tomorrow
and the Phillies are one of the favorites join the
World Series.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
But man, this is let me just feel it on
the field. This is the series.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
This is the one that has some rivalry built into
at a local rivalry and obviously two teams that have
done some damage to each other over the last few years.
And there's a reason why Major League Baseball put it
right in primetime and made it the nightcap.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
This is going to be the epicenter of Major League Baseball.
I know there's a lot of East Coast bias out there.
Everybody's drinking that Mets kool aid on the East Coast.
But don't get it twisted, Matt. We're here to set
the record straight. Dodgers Padres, not Mets. Phillies is the
epicenter of Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
And I will reset because I know you know my
positions in baseball, Dave, some have come around. They have
come around. Come to fruition one. Robot umps we talked
about at least fifteen years ago, and we are tracking
toward robot MPs and I'm going to continue to pound
the drum for non static brackets. You gotta reset in

(03:02):
the postseason because again, much like we saw back in
twenty twenty one when the Giants got absolutely screwed and
had to play the Dodgers coming out of the wildcard round.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Oh yeah it is Ohis. You know who could forget
that smile? Aj Ellis's smile very hard to for.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Filling out those pants really well, even us quaws.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
He's not even having veneers in his mouth. Those are
his real teeth when he smiles. Those are not veneers
or fake teeth. And everybody love Ajlis. Everybody now loves
him in slam diego, Hey, I'm still on the dirt.
I'm still on the dirt. By the way, he still
hasn't lost his sense of humor, joking that he doesn't
want me anywhere near him because that's the way he's

(03:44):
motioning right now.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I don't know if he would recreate the moments when
we used to do the broadcast above the bullpen when
he would throw water bottles at us. If Clayton Kershaw
was doing a bullpen and we were a little too loud,
aj would take a water bottle chuck it up into
our broadcast position to subtly say quiet down.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
It's kind of weird, you know. I thought it was
a j Ellis, But maybe it's Mike Soosha working for
the Padres. Now I'm not sure. Two great Dodger catchers.
I'm not really sure.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Listen, sometimes you got a patio and you want to
put a portcho of the patio.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
You know it, it gets called in Milwaukee does when
you're working from home, there's not a lot of movement
around the house.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Exactly what.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
You're very stationary.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
What did Patrick Mahomes say his trainers say about him?
You know, sometimes you got to make sure you're able
to absorb some hits. And the winner is coming and
the body is getting ready to absorb the hits of
a Wisconsin winner.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
It's weird. When Aj played for the Dodgers, he had
no idea where any good places to eat were. But
I saw him for the first time last week and
he had like five different restaurants to share with me
in Milwaukee. I didn't even know they had five restaurants
in Milwaukee.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
This is what I'm trying to figure out. How do
any players talk to you? You've done nothing but walk
over ackle ajut back to distance myself from you.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
We'll just walk back this way, exactly right.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
That was fun.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
If you want to get a peek into how Dave
ingratiates himself to players and coaches, there is he mocks them,
he peppers them, and he gives them the business in
front of everybody else.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
One of the good dudes.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Though, isn't it weird to see him in a padres
brown and yellow. He should be a Dodger one day,
and honestly it's his choice. He's not on a coaching
staff because he's prioritized raising his two girls and his son.
And there's a joke out there. I'm not sure if
you've heard him share this, but I guess during a
granky start or some game when he was on the

(05:34):
bench with Andre Ethier, they made a bet that somebody
was going to throw a certain pitch, or whether or
not a guy was going to swing on a certain pitch.
And the way the story goes is Ethier said, I'll
bet you your house. So the bet went Ethier's way,
and to this day Ethier still says aj Ellis and
his family are living in his house.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Is he going to run age. I can hammer some
fungos out there? Is that nice doing?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
He might. He's a guy that, definitely, I know, has
been asked to be the bench coach of managers over
the last five years and he has declined.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
We see it with catchers, you know, there's there's a
reason why catchers find themselves in managerial positions, in bench
coach positions on Major League Baseball stabs. They clearly see
the game in a different way, and certainly, much like
offensive linemen, they're responsible for so many more things beyond
just their immediate position. So not surprised at all that

(06:34):
a guy that Clayton Kershaw counted on exclusively to be
his catcher as long as as he was on the
Dodgers roster is going to work his way into some
coaching circles.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
It's interesting. You always thought aj Ellis would be the
catcher that caught more Kershaw games than anybody else, but
it actually has turned out to be Austin Barnes that
has caught more games than aj Ellis from Kershawn just
you know, the mutual respect they always had for each other.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And will that continue in the player You think, well, you.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Know, it's interesting, right last week. They did spend time together,
but the way Kershaw handles things and the way Ajlis
handles things, they may not speak during this entire postseason,
even though Kershaw more than likely won't be on the
NLDS roster.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I dealing with the toe and talking about the battery
between Kershaw and Barnes and Ajlis. We just get word
that Landon Nak is going to join us in a
few minutes, so we'll probably get him in the very
next segment, in our final hour. But it's a reminder
of something that you told us a little bit earlier
in the week and that we've talked about extensively here
over these three and a half hours, almost three and

(07:37):
a half hours, And that's your X factor. And Will
Smith kind of finding that sweet swing and being that
that big bat that they so desperately need like he
had and the you know that led up to his
ten year deal that they handed him this offseason.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
I actually heard former padre catcher Austin Nola on an
interview this afternoon and they were asking him about Otani
and how to really navigate that and allowing your starting
pitcher to go deep into a game, and he said
the biggest key to allow your starting pitcher to go
not only just two times through the lineup, but also

(08:12):
three times is finding a way to be able to
not allow the six, seven, eight to nine hitters to
hurt you. Well, the three MVPs are there, then you
got Munsey, ta Oscar Hernandez, and then Will Smith. So
to me, Will Smith, who got a huge nine year extension,
not let's be honest here for his catching prowess, but

(08:33):
for how he has separated himself as one of the
best hitting catchers in baseball, And frankly, he wasn't that
from June until the beginning of September. But he has
started to find himself, rediscover himself, and I believe that
he's going to find himself in a lot of big situations,
maybe with two outs, where not only can he keep

(08:54):
the line moving, but also come up with some big
hits with runners in scoring position. Especially with Munsey being
a guy that sees a lot of pitches, walks a lot,
he is the epitome of a three true outcome player.
He's going to find himself with a lot of men
on base and coming up in key situations. So for me,
no other team out there has a Will Smith hitting sixth,

(09:16):
and he's got to look like the Will Smith we've
seen the last two weeks and the Will Smith we
saw from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty one.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
And for people that don't know, because you're talking baseball speak, Dave,
a three outcome hitter is pop out in foul territory,
hit by pitch, and disqualified for stepping out of the battersbox.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Right close, it's a strikeout, home run, or walk.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Okay, I thought it was pretty dark close.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Everybody saw Moneyball Matt come on exactly right.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
As far as Will is concerned, though, it's something you've
talked about and we've seen him wear down through the
course of a season and have much better first halves
than second halves. And I don't think that's necessarily out
of the ordinary for catchers in general. But when ask
a catcher to catch as many games and you're you're
a single position player, don't lose your meal.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Ticket for tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
You would have thought they would have given us a
meal today. By the way, I'd like to point out, like, hey,
if you're gonna if you're gonna invite the media out
from two until seven pm, you would assume.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
We weren't invited. They just let us know it's available.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
That's all I'm saying. Can you not fire up one
kitchen and boil some hot dogs? Can you not steal
some funds?

Speaker 3 (10:24):
I didn't sausage.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
It's like, hey, we got to check. The check in.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Opened at noon. Most people are here by one. They're
not done until six, you know, when the media is released.
It's just I was goun up, but then I was told,
you got to get here. Dave, Mike and Manny and
and Dave Roberts might join you, and Friedman and and
Goals and and and you know, Tim Kate's understandable as
an executive producer, wants to make sure we're available when
the Dodgers are available.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
So I hauled asked to get here.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
I had to skip the ricks and next thing you know,
I'm on a diet of Coke zero and iced tea,
and I think the iced tea is a day old.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
By the way, I got a chicken burrito from Phill's
on the way in.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Must be nice.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
You gotta plan ahead. You gotta understand. Nobody's catering to
us out here.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
All right, It's been a hell of a day.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
We certainly appreciate the Dodgers, all their help, the Padres,
all their help. H ellis earlier in the segment getting
the business from David Vase. When we return, we're going
to skip out right now because Landon Nak is coming up.
So we'll be joined by the potential starter or beginning
in the second inning picture of Game four. And hey,
how about this, And I won't say it to his face.

(11:32):
Somebody we don't want to see somebody we would prefer
not to see things go the Dodgers' way in this
particular round of the playoffs, right they Oh, yeah, exactly right,
great tease, landin net will join us netch that shows
some money. Hey, I'm five seventy LA Sports Live everywhere

(11:53):
on the Iheartradiot Live at Dodger Stadium. Workout today for
each club, and today we have all access standing down
on the field right now, DV A conversation with someone's
going to play a big role in this divisional series.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yes it is Landon Nac, a man that made his
major league debut this year, got his first major league win,
and now is going to make his first postseason appearance.
One of the more relaxed but confident Dodger pitchers, and
that's why he has made for the postseason. Landon, thanks
a lot for the time. Great to introduce you to
my radio friends here today. Yeah, Hey, when you get

(12:30):
ready for the postseason, does anything change for you? You guys
have been basically with each other twenty four to seven
the last three days. What's it been like. It's been great. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
You kind of go with the same preparation, try to
be as consistent as you can be going into this
because I think it's really about hammering the little details
as you're kind of coming into this, because a lot
of the small things play a big part once you
kind of get to this level of game.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
And so yeah, I know we've been.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
Doing a great job of kind of sticking together out here,
really trying to get as close of a field possible,
and just I think we're all just ready to go.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Did the did the last week of the season of
the Padre series we talked about it feels it's playoff.
You know, the winner is gonna win the division. Did
it feel like that and did it feel like that
for you as you're out there? Was there any additional
I don't know, adrenaline, fan energy that that you felt
in that start.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Yeah, you could definitely feel a little bit of especially
the fan energy and kind of like knowing the implications
of that series. Yeah, we definitely had a little bit
more of like that kind of feel going into it
and really knowing that we need to take care of
business in that series. And so that was kind of
almost like a like a preluda, little precursor to this
to kind of get a little bit of that feel
before we really get the real thing here.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
When you pitched in Denver, you had an opener. Some
would say, once you have an opener, you never go
back for that year?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Is that what they said?

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Do you feel like that might be the plan in
the situation because yourself, Gavin Stone imaged she and it's
really remarkable how flexible you guys have been as rookies
to get off your five day routine and be ready
to go, whether it's starting or coming out of the bullpen. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
I think this year we've learned a lot about how
to be flexible in this. I mean, yeah, would for
the last couple of years I have been purely a starter.
I have not had an opener since twenty twenty one
before this season in the big leagues, and so yeah,
it this year has definitely kind of taught me how
to be flexible, what I need to do to take
care of things every day.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
And so now we're kind of just ready for anything.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
So like whatever they need me to be in this series,
whether it's if I come out of the pen, I
have an opener and do a bulk whatever they need
from me. Now I feel like we're ready for any.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Of those roles.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Land and Dave said it when when he brought you
on about your demeanor and we you know, we see
it or we assume we see it through the TV.
Nobody listens to this show just gonna let us know it.
Are you freaking out on the inside or have you
always been that way? Is it something that you figured
out in the minors. Did it come in your first
start when you're like, okay, this is no different, Like
where's it come from?

Speaker 1 (14:55):
And is it real? Like are you really just kind
of cruising?

Speaker 3 (14:58):
I mean, I wouldn't say crusin.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
I mean you definitely feel a little bit of the
nerves as you kind of get into this a little bit.
I mean, I think overall, I try to stay as
level as possible, especially when we're just kind of coming
out here being part of the things, and just try
to be as consistent of a person as I can. Obviously,
I still have a little bit of those nerves. I know, obviously,
I think you saw it in my very first game
when I kind of like looked up and around everything

(15:20):
that the nerves are still there. But then yeah, you
kind of realize as you go that it is still
the same game. And so now obviously it's just bigger implications,
a bigger stage, bigger media around, and so now it's
just continuing to try to be that same guy, have
that same feel.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
And just take advantage of the moment. I always hear
about players helping each other more than any coach could
really help you. Since you got here, has there been
one picture that you go out to watch bullpen sessions
or anybody said any little thing to you that really
clicked and stood out for you.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
I think our staff in general is really close and
likes to come watch each other throw their pins and
kind of pick each other brains.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
I think, Uh.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Obviously, like offseason, I spent a little bit time here
with Walker.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Me and Walker have had.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Some had good talks on like his different thoughts and
feels on cues and everything. Kersh is obviously a great
mentor around the clubhouse. Is a really guy who's obviously
he's been through everything at this point. He knows the
ups and downs of this game, and so he's he's
a great guy to talk to. So yeah, I mean
everybody has kind of been getting together a lot and
kind of going over like are everybody's thoughts and a

(16:27):
little bit of advice to push going into this so
that we're all.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Kind of ready to go going back to uh, just
kind of the demeanor and why it looks people point
to because it is important and what like if you've
ever if you've experienced it, what do you lose? Are
you are you throwing too hard? Is it adrenaline? Is
it are you losing focus? Is it control? Why is
it so important to make sure you're kind of in
that moment, in the right headspace, because then what what

(16:51):
gets sideways if you're not.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
I think it's it's a little bit of the focus.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
I think at that point it's, uh, if you're not
quite in that headspace, it's just it's to be as.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Fine tune as you need to be.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
I'm a guy who I rely a lot on my
command and my ability to kind of change speeds and
move things around, so kind of kind of making sure
that that focus has kept that like very small target
thought to where we're really moving things around. Well, I
think that is where things can every now and then
get a little bit off, is just if I'm starting
to miss that spot by just a little out here

(17:23):
and there. And so it's like keeping that demeanor, keeping
that same thought process as we go.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
I think just hones in things. Landon Nak is our
guest as Petros and Money Show rolls on here.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
David, Thank you, Matt. Yeah, that's right, all access pass
because of DV.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Have you heard about this watch party that's been going
on each of the last three days by.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Here right in the fancy seats underneath the fancy seats.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
So I'm just curious, as a connoisseur of great bar food,
what was served during these watch parties. Is it the
typical you know, potato wedges, buffalo wings or is it
healthy Dodger food being served? Yeah, it was a mix.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
So some things we had the first night, we had
a ton of sushi, uh, some some steaks, little like
lost from cheese. So they really pulled out the stops
for us down there. I think I destroyed about three
plates of sushi that night.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I go to sushi, I just kind of go for everything.
I don't know if I really have a go to.
I kind of oh, rolls, yeah, but rolls more often
than not.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
But it's uh, I kind of I kind of just
like get a little bit of every one of them
that they bring in exactly they because I mean obviously
every now and then we'll have it in the in
the cafeteria here too, or they'll bring in some sushi,
and like, I just make sure to kind of try
every little bit of everything in there because it's.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
All so good.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
More importantly, was there a bartender.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
There was a bartend Okay, just not just beers and wines,
but you can get a little little cocktail.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Yeah, they kind of they had a couple of little ones,
Is that right? Yeah? All right, So they just took
care of it for the first night.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
What is that kind of the the idea behind we
kind of so you guys do it?

Speaker 3 (19:02):
It was so I think it was it was to
kind of get that close feel.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
I think we all wanted to make sure that we
were together for the Wash party, to spend as much
time around each other as possible, continuing to build that
bond as we go into this, so that we all
are as in this together as we can be.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
We're all ready to go in the fight together and
and kind of just ready to take on this. What
have you thought about the playoffs so far, not just
the Padres and Braves, but what you saw with the
Mets and Milwaukee and just everything that's gone on that
you know, top seeds have been knocked out, It's been crazy.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Yeah, No, the postseason, I mean you always see some
wild stuff happening.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
It's always very competitive.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
You see some some kind of back and forth games,
and so kind of watching like the Mets, the ending
of the Mets game the last two days where it's
really been really late game heroics by guys. Seeing the
Pine Alonso home run last night was just insane. Yeah,
kind of watching the Orioles get knocked out early. I mean,
it's just you never know what's going to happen. October

(20:00):
it's always uh something happening, and so I think it's
it's already been a very exciting postseason.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
How do you guys watch the games. Do you watch
it like money and I would? Or are you guys
really looking at it with I watched the try, well
so do I, but when I'm not there, But I'm
just wondering if you guys really are looking at it
as a scot of report game video or are you
just relaxing watching the game and take it as it comes.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
It's a little bit of a mix, you're so as
we're watching, of course, some of these games were obviously
scouting her a little bit, kind of seeing what we're
what kind of is working against guys.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
What is not getting a little bit of that.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
And then the other part of it, of course as
we're watching some of the games is kind of the relax,
keep up with what's going on, spend and then like
really like spend that time together to create that moment.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
We haven't asked you about the Padres, so as you
get ready for this series, Oh yeah, that I think
they struck out twice in two games. It's a team
that doesn't swing and miss much. Kind of what are
the challenges when when you're going up against this lineup
and what do you need do to execute to get
a victory?

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Yeah, obviously.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Yeah, they have a great lineup over there, very hot
team the second half in general. I mean, yeah, I
know they they're a good team. I know they're gonna
come in here ready for a fight. And so yeah,
it's it's really just making sure we execute our game
plan to keep our heads in it and just go
after them. And so, like, I'm just very excited to
kind of see as we get into this, is.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
There as a group a sense of disrespect. It feels
like everybody's you know, all the so called experts are
picking the Padres. Do you feel like a lot of
people out there are not giving you guys enough credit?
And I hope you guys are giving yourselves enough credit.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Oh yeah, we definitely know what we are as a team.
We know what we can do. We're very confident going
into this. I know, Oh, we're all just ready to
kind of go after this attack it. And so yeah, no,
we're very confident going into this.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
We thank you for reminding me they're playing the Padres.
I completely forgot about them. But yeah, it's all about the.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Dodgers exactly what people are excited about this. It's gonna
be great.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Now, I'm all in with you. But I still feel
like the Dodgers have to remind themselves, like Daniel Hudson
did in New York, that we are the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
We are the Dodgers exactly right, Stuart Small, that's too
old of a reference. Or please, however, let me ask
you this because we think about Max Munsey and we're
not going to keep you out here much longer.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
It's hot.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
I think about Max Munsey and mad Bum. Go get
it out of the Yoshan, you know, just yeah, is
there any hitter out there? And you don't even have
to I know you don't want to give me a name,
you won't, but is there a hitter that you're just like, Hey, man,
f this guy, F this guy.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Is there a dude that you.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Like mowing down more than others in your young career
that you enjoy doing battle with.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
I mean, there's a lot of guys throughout this league
that are fun to do battle with.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
I mean there's guys. I mean, obviously, I've I have
being a young rookie right now.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
I mean there's a lot of guys that I've watched
as I've kind of grown up, and so yeah, getting
to kind of do battles with some of these guys. Yeah,
there's absolutely that level of edge that you get whenever
you get to face.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Them, and because you're so just stoic and your demeanor,
so what are you doing you just like you're kind
of inside when you get them, or because we don't
see it from you, you know, you're just you're so
even keel man.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
It's right in the middle.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah, Yeah, we definitely get a little bit of like, yeah,
that little inside of you as you kind of do.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
It for I don't know, if you go in the
tunnel and you freak out start with it, you know,
there's got to be something, right, Dave, some release.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I don't want to know about the release, but yeah,
it's just.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Not where I was going. It's not where I was going.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
I don't know where they do that stuff.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
You know, you're.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
After the game. You can't do that in the middle
of the game, right because you have to recalibrate.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
You got to say you got to stay locked in
because the second you show too much, you kind of
let it all out too much. Then it's hard to
keep that focus. You got to make sure you bring
it back in. So it's it's really trying to keep
the guy, very emotional, very after every win or every loss.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
For a week.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
There's only seventeen of them day, there's only seventeen of them,
Dave football mentality and listen, that's right. Landing lost a
pound doing this interview because of how hot it is.
So thank you for standing in the beating hot sun
to spend some time with us.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Landing, we have apreciate.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Yeah, pleasure hopping on y'all.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
All right, when we return, we will wrap it up
from Dodger Stadium, a full four hours Padres workout, Dodgers workout,
press conferences from show, hel Tawny conversations with Dave Roberts.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
It's been a heck of a day.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
We'll put a bow on it when we return here
on your Home of the Dodgers, AM five seventy LA Sports. Well,
this is it, Petrosen Money, last segment of our four
hour show, live from Dodger Stadium. As the tent, polls
have been removed, the tent has collapsed, and tomorrow it
will be the beginning of the Dodgers twenty twenty four

(24:34):
postseason run and chasing that World Series championship, their second
in five years. If they can knock it down. We
are your home of the Dodgers. AM five seventy LA Sports.
We will have every postseason game right here. Remember, if
you are in the Greater LA area, driving around or
moving around town, not by a TV, not buy a radio,
you can listen to the games on the iHeartRadio app

(24:57):
and the AM five to seventy LA Sports tab. Been
a fun day with David Vasse Petros out doing some
football so we were granted all access. Spent a lot
of time on the field, watching the Padres workout, watching
the Dodgers work out, consuming all these pressers, a ton
of conversations with people on the Dodgers and around the

(25:18):
Dodgers day.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
It's been a hell of a day today.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Yeah, it's been great, Matt. I appreciate you allowing me
to fill in and try to fill in those sized
twenty shoes of Petros Papadekas today. Where is he calling
those games again? Parts unknown? Do we know where he is? Well?

Speaker 1 (25:33):
At Syracuse versus UNLV.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
I believe the game is bat Is at Las Vegas,
two three and one teams. Tip of the Cap should
be a competitive contest. UNLV's kind of been getting a
lot of attention obviously, because of their quarterback and the
fact that the Pac twelve wants them, the Mountain West
wants them. A bunch of people want UNLV for that
Vegas market that's continually growing, but that is neither here
nor there. Day you mentioned the size twenties. One thing

(25:57):
I did notice today. I want to make sure that
Snap gets paid up. Dodger issued Nikes on a handful.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Of the employees. No, you choose not to wear them,
or they don't flip you a pair.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
They don't flip me a pair. Real guy's got Nike accounts,
mante they got a splurge of Nike money to.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Spend, they don't give it to you.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Crickets.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Crickets not cool man.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
I know I want to a pair of Kobe eights
that are out right now. They don't have my size.
I've said, hey, I'll be willing to buy, Like, hey,
can you help me out?

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Nothing?

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Nothing?

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Well, uh, it's not for lack of effort, Dave.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
It's a appreciate you noticing that.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Damn shame.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Yeah, you got your Petro some money vans on. I
never got a pair of those either.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Probably all you have to do is ask, would be
my guest. I think they're still I think there's still
a number of pairs a mater of fact from the
last five years. So choose your style, all right, let's
get to it.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Hold on, before you do, we want to know where
you're watching the games Saturday and Sunday.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Right, So tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, my dear friend Mark Cunningham is.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Happening Richie and Howard.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yes, exactly right.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
See like the brother they got rid of after the
first season.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
He's Maryon's great uncle. He is having a an all day.
Come on over at like two, let's watch a little
college football, then get into the Dodger Padre game. He
just redid his backyard, so you know when you do
the backyard and you get the TV out there, which.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
I'm fine with.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
He went and picked up two kegs from mister Keg
down there in Huntington Beach.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
He's tapping those. We got a mall and we got
a stella. He said.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
I said, hey, do you need me to bring anything food?
And he said, absolutely not. We're getting catered from John's
Philly Grill.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
So nice.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
It's gotta be a real Seal.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Beach affair with a bunch of dudes from around toime,
which I normally don't do. I typically watch it on
the couch with Carrie, my wife, and uh usually Preston's
the one that's right.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Yeah, kry Like's watching the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
It's like one of the only sports that she'll kind
of sit around and watch.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
But I've heard you talk about stumbling home alone. Your
keys are outside in the front yard, shoes are right
outside the garage, so.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
That that's a very real possibility for tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Do you even see the seventh inning stretch tomorrow? Yes?

Speaker 2 (28:02):
I think so, because I'll just be drinking beer. Mark's
not at the booze guy. Okay, he's a beer guy.
So I think what happens is you get around the
booze guys, and that's when things get sideways.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
So when you start blacking guy listen riding your bike
home not remembering anything that's right.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
That happened once because I went to Patty's place and
we were drinking boots and so that's here. Here is
ultimately what my problem is not that people cares we're
getting ready for an olds one.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
But I'll say this, theake care. I drink too fast.
I like to drink.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
It's when I get the beer poured, I end up
drinking like a quarter of the beer immediately me too,
And the same thing happens with a glass of Booze.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
I just like the way it tastes. As soon as
it hits my hands, I want to take it down.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
I drink a twelve pick a twelve pack of Laqua
within an hour. Laqua, that's right, whether it's Modelo, Lacua, Laqua,
cherry Coke.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
You haven't moved down to Waterloo or Bubbly yet and
still Lacroix, it's Laqua that is. You see Dino Evil
coming out giving you the eyes for your Laqua.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
He's my biggest fan. He knew Evil, I bet he is.
He won't admit it publicly.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
But about the.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Dodger Nikes as well, Dave, But you don't. I know
everyone's got the Dodger Nikes, but.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
You Dino's got a slush fun to Nike. But he
doesn't even help me out once in a while.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
I wouldn't either.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
All right, Dave, let's go two games this weekend as
we wrap this show up. Your idea of how these
things are going to play out and why they will
play out that way?

Speaker 3 (29:20):
I think Tomorrow is vital to the Dodgers winning this series.
You moved Yamamoto to Game one for our purpose because
you feel like he can give you a decided advantage
to get ahead in this series one to zero. You
Darvish has had the Dodgers' number, let's face it, the
last three or four years, especially with the Padres. So
that is a flip of the coin. But tomorrow, to

(29:43):
me is a must win for the Dodgers if they
have any desires to win this series.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, I'm right there with you, not that you need
me to validate your kick on med right there, But
I will say that people may not realize this. The
Dodgers I have lost six playoff games in a row.
We talked about it earlier. I mean they dropped the five,
they went up one to zero on the Padres, then
dropped the next three. They got swept by the Diambecks.

(30:08):
This is a team that has not won a playoff
game since twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
We're aware where are where they got to get.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
In the win column? Getting the win column immediately excise
those demons. Get Yamamoto to look his dominant self. We
know what it looked like against the Padres and his
two starts. Obviously the game in South Korea that went
horribly wrong in a single inning, and then the five
innings that he pitched gave up three runs, and those
five would love to see him get back to his
dominant self.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Jesus look at those arms and then.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Ha ha, nobody's rushing the field with that guy.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Absolutely not put you in a headlock and pop your
head like a pipple.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
By the way, one in six the last two years
means absolutely nothing tomorrow because it's the first time any
team in Major League Baseball has had show hal tiny
on their team. That's my whole point here. The Padres
are great, but everybody's given the Padres way too much credit.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
It's a great point to end on, Dave. It is
Shoh's debut in the Major League Baseball postseason. We know
what that could mean for baseball, for playoff ratings. If
the Dodgers can put this thing together and make a
deep run, you will see the highest ratings in the postseason,
especially if it's the World Series, especially if it's Dodgers Yankees.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Who is that that is?

Speaker 3 (31:20):
That's Fernando Tatist Junior Matt You might have heard of him.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Oppo. I mean he is crushing those Mike.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
When they were here last week. He was putting on
a show with no regard for life, as the great
Kevin Harlan would say.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
And by the way, that home run he hit against
the Braves, Oh, it looked like a pop up. Yeah,
and then he hit the damn thing so hard that
it still carried four hundred and thirty feet. That thing
had to go a mile high.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
I'm not going to comment on what it looked like
as far as a pop up. Some play by play
man would say, it's a pop up, and then all
of a sudden, it's a home run. I think it
was a home run all the way.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
No, I think it was.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Honestly, it was the steepest exit angle of any home
run at the season.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Yes, by three or four degrees.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
No doubts it was a home run, especially by his reaction.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
I mean, I knew it was a home run. I
couldn't believe I'll hide the damn tho, that's.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
What I thought you were saying, Like some of these
play by play guys on misjudge a fly ball from.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
A home run exactly right, canniccorn and it's seven ROAs
d all Right, so there we go, Let's get a
big win tomorrow. We gave we have a pair of tickets
to Game two, Kates and Sacks or Sacks and Kates
and Scam gave away a pair of tickets to Game one.
Let's hope we're talking about giving away tickets to the NLCS,
not Game five the NLCS.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
I want to know on Monday, when I'm listening from
Slam Diego, when they ask you how was your weekend, Matt,
I want you to remember every detail of every moment from.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Tomorrow exactly right from the Cunningham's backyard co Beach neighborhood.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Shut on Cunningham.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
You do go to see the fund statue every time
you go to Milwaukee. All Right, Dave, we appreciate it.
Big thank you to Katie back in the studio, to
Ronnie Back in the studio, executive producers.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Tolerable today, man Kate barely, and.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Uh obviously to all of our friends at the Dodgers
for allowing us to cruise around the field and.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
H they are not Actually this was contraband I brought
you out here.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Listen, we appreciate it, and we are very much looking forward,
don't forget tomorrow. Four thirty pm. I just touched the fly.
Dodgers on deck. Five thirty eight pm. First Pitch Yama
Modo versus Dylan Seesh. Hear it right here on your
home with the Dodgers. What's coming up next? Kate's Fox
Sports Radio. Oh, big head and bold guy, that's right
coming up next here, and they will continue. I would
assume not the conversation about the Padres and Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
But Davante Adams to the Jets, Mets, the Mets.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
That is what you're gonna hear.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
A happy Matt Harvey day, you hear a lot of
Mets talk, all right, Thanks Matt, Thanks Dave,
