a little bird from Sacramento told me that Clayton Kershaw

(03:08):
Stuck his small needly beak in my ear and told
me that very exciting and that and we also have
a guest in the very next segment.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Mat do it is Dodgers a's from the Gallupin Motors
Broadcast booth tonight and uh Dallas Braydon, who was part
of the A's broadcast team. Been a wild year, wild
couple of years for the A's obviously, Uh, the exit
from Oakland becoming public and it being a very well,
uncomfortable at times situation there inside the coliseum. They will
(03:41):
play the next few what well they had the lady
they had, Yeah, you got a little bit of that,
and there's been.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
A little bit of this, a little bit of that.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Aaron Sacramento for the immediate future. Nobody knows how long
they're still waiting for some politics to get short it
out in Vegas politic politic. That whole thing hasn't been
squared away yet.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Are you telling me that they have not broken ground
on that thing yet? They haven't worn golden Vegas helmets,
hard hats and broken ground on that thing, Matt? Is
that what?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
I don't. I don't think it's even approved yet.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I don't think the site has been squared away.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I you mean they don't know if they're going to
the Trot of the Strat.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah, I gotta. I don't know if they're going Naked City, Well,
that's the Strat, And I don't know if they're going
to the Trop Pinball Museum. That's trop Trop Yeah. Yeah,
I think they got renderings and stuff, but I don't.
Let's see Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Well, it's not like we went through this in LA,
where there was fake renderings in fake stadiums and fake
press conferences and fake celebrity endorsements for decades before they
finally got some sucker of a rich guy to build
a stadium just so the Chargers could rent it at
a dollar a year Charger.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
They are going to break ground dog in the next
few weeks here.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Oh, so it is moving forward where just last.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Month the Clark County Commission approved the A's Ballpark zoning permits,
another step forward and getting construction undered away for the
one point seventy five billion dollar project, including a number
of waivers for development standards. It is going to be
built on the old side of what is it, the Tropicana.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, the trot the old down trop Okay that they
got their way, Matt.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Ah Yes, April second, my mistake.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
The Vegas come on, Matt, come on, man. Vegas wanted
to tuck them way up there in Naked City with
the crackheads and the freaks at the strat.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
They did, and the.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
A's were saying, look, we didn't leave the squalor of
Oakland just to I mean, we might be stupid and
terrible ownership, but we're not leaving the squalor of Alameda
County and going to the dirtiest part of Nevada. You
are mistaken. We're going to the strip. You're putting us
(06:07):
down town.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
And they still think it's going to be ready.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
You're not putting us down there.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
They still think it's gonna be ready for the start
of the twenty eighth season, So three years from that.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Well, how long did it take Alligia to pop up
like a big pimple out of the desert?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Oh like two weeks? Ye, so queer. It's like I
fell asleep on a cheeseburger. I woke up the next
morning with that pimple, the same thing, Dallas.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Braden is going to tell us all about it in
the very name. Well, that's good that we kind of
hashed it out right there, because we don't want to
look just a stupid right when we talked to Braden Vegas, Yeah,
did you get a condo a naked city, dumbass? They'd
be like, no, we're at the trop idiot all right,
matt uh. You know we've intimated earlier last week, you've
(06:57):
did the story. I talked about it too, and all
we have is the stupid rigged draft lottery and.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
The the hell of a moment for the show yesterday.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Really I thought we navigated it when it really was
a hell of a moment. And then the deciphering of
the Lebron hieroglyphics.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
On nine, tilted faced, laughing, crying, emojis into.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
The conversation and in the meantime, Matt and look, we
had a we We had a Dodger parade. The Dodgers
beat the Yankees in the World Series. We miierated upon
the East Coast in that way.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, these guys are classless pigs. Did you see what
they did?
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Fat Joe was terrible, Ice Cube was great. Dave Roberts
probably didn't need to rub his ass on Ice Cubes's thigh.
But you know all but it's hard not to notice
what's going on on the East Coast right now, Matt.
A lot of people. People are in a New York
state of mind.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Oh, it's on fire. The sporting world is on fire.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Between the chowderheads and the mailbox heads. It is an extravaganza,
an East Coast sports orgy, a media event, and as
eye rolling as the celebrities at the Crypto R, they're
(08:28):
just this eye rolling at MSG.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Oh I love Spike Lee, star.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Studded mailbox head celebrity row Matt last night at the
a Hole Sports Fan Olympics. The Kings versus the Seas
is there a more? I mean, the Knicks versus the
Seas Kings of New York Frank White. Is there a
(08:54):
bigger a hole sports fan clash in the.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
World than what Lakers v Nick celebrities sitting court?
Speaker 3 (09:03):
No, just Nicks versus Celtics.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Oh, I got you. I mean I think any Laker
game would.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Yeah, what the media when you got your child's versus
the mailbox heads? Matt I watched the celebrity shout out.
Spike Lee was there?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yeah, Tracy Morgan's always there. He's like those two are
diehard fans there at every game.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
John Leguizamo, Oh huge, Timmy Shall met and Kylie Jenner
they couple, They are that right. You didn't know that Matt.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I did not come on.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Matt.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
I know that he knows his college football because he
made his appearance on the game day and really knocked
it out of the park.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
He really did have a great, uh great segment on
game day. Yeah, really came out. Yeah, did a lot
better than some of the country music types down to
the I.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Thought Kylie Jenner was a Phoenix Suns fans always the
games written them on.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Oh she's not with him anymore?
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Oh, I thought she was a fan. So which one
is he with? Kylie or Kendall?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Maybe he's I think he's with Kylie.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I don't even know the difference which one's which Kylie.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
One of them has babies with.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Rappers, really, isn't she?
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Like twelve, Kylie is with Timothy schallome right.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
And she's the one that used to be the rapper
baby mom type.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Wait, Challa, May's with the one that's got kids.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Correct, American socialite Kylie Jenner. Kylie has two children. I
believe she has one with Travis Scott the Rapper and
one with Tiger the Rapper. But now she's with French
American actor Timothy.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
And before the text come in, guys, Kendall is the
one with Devin Booker.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
So that's good because I was worried, Well, she's not
with Devin Booker. She's with Bad Bunny or was, And
I was worried that bad Bunny who is at the
next game.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Yeah, he goes to all those games. Bad Bunny likes
the name.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Yeah, I was worried. I was concerned that bad Bunny
was going to have a run in with tim Shallamay
and that we would have an issue.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Both their kids are Travis Scott's. Oh they both Tiger
didn't have one of them, Tiger did not one of them.
Tiger has one with black China.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
But this is bad. That's my bad. This is and
then Robert Kardashian has one with black China too.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
This is my favorite part of this little AI overview
of Kylie Jenner kids.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
In twenty twenty three, Kylie Jenner officially changed her son's
name from Wolf to Air.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Oh that's cool.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Yeah, I know we named you Wolf, but I'm not
crazy about it. Want to change it to air?
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Maybe she was attacked by a wolf on a walk
a change of heart.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Her daughter's name is Stormy.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Well, it's very very a lot of a lot of
squalls in Calabasas Ben Stiller, Matt at the game.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Also a diehard nick fan at at all the Games.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Susan Esmond, I think she's a comedian.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Never heard of her, me, neither even Sting. Is that right?
Speaker 4 (12:33):
I think the Sting go to the games.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Or is that no?
Speaker 3 (12:37):
He was there? Matt tell me that.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Well, no, I'm just wondering what I'm on it.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I'm on that, I know.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
I'm just thinking of who the you know the regulars are,
Jack Nicholson, Denze.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
I'm not got one of the baby Daddy's wrong, But
that doesn't mean you know, I'm still on it. Cardi
B and Stefan Diggs, who recently signed with Boston. So
he's in a tough spot. You know. He's standing down
there on the on the court in New York with
Cardi By. They've confirmed their dating rumors.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Which one got shot by? That dude that just got stabbed?
That wasn't Cardi B? Right, the Stallion Megan v Stallion?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
He said, dance and shot her in the foot right now.
Both of his lungs have been air rated in a
prison that would be Tory Lane.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I believe was attacked in Tahatchepie in the prison that
also made the apparently, I mean it does. Yeah, when
you get shanked twelve times and you say, wow, I've
seen it like that in the movies. You're not like
a chicken, and apparently he's not.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
That's why has the lungs got two new holes in them?
Speaker 4 (13:42):
You guys mentioned Susie Esmond. Who is she? She was
on Kirby your Enthusias that's what I reck.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Oh, she's the wife of his agent, that's the other.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Yeah, she's great guy. Yeah, so she's she was out there.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
She's a New Yorker from the Bronx.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Yes, yeah, they mostly are. The only thing that game
was missing was Vic the brick Jacobs, of course.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Who was very excited about the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Though, Well, all the mail box heads are coming out
of the woodwork.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
They really are.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
And that's what's kind of annoying, not that we haven't
had a great treasure of riches as far as celebration
and holding one over on people. And it's not like
the mix are in the finals. They're in the second round.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Well you know how this ends. I mean, it's obvious
how this ends.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
They beat the Celtics and.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Lose to the Pacers. It's just obvious.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Do you think after going through all the machinations to
get Cooper Flagg to Dallas and the rig nature of that,
and I'm sure we'll get into it more, do you
think Nosfaratu would ever allow the Pacers to make it
to the NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
I mean, it's Tim Donneghe available to refagame Nicks v.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Hicks. Do you really think they will let the Pacers
like they would puncture all the tires of the Pacers bus.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
I mean, it's a forfeit guys, I'm sorry they didn't
get here on time.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Isn't that a fair question? Like it is if the
NBA is willing to go through the gymnastics they went
through last night, to lie to everybody in the world,
to bold face lie to all of us. Well, Matt Knight,
two very very strong reporters with integrity, strong are covering it,
(15:21):
and they just lie to our face. You think they'd
ever let the Indiana Pacers when they have the knicks
on the precipice of the finals into the NBA Finals,
I ask you, Matt.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Smith, Yes, yes, they would. Tis the destiny of a
Nick fan. We'll see knock off the defending champs, heavily
favored to get out of that series and fall the
Tyres Halliburton, his father, his father's towel, and you'll have
an Indianapolis v. Oklahoma City NBA Finals. Two of probably
(15:54):
the maybe three at three smallest markets, two of the
five at least, maybe even two of the three smallest markets.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
I do like how the Pacers wear the sweatshirt that
says pay sir like yes sir. Yea. It says pay
sir like yes sir. Here we come to Ruin everybody.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Sorry, guys, best laid plans.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Nobody's watched us all year, and I don't look. I
don't know, Matt, but you're right it is. Uh, it's
something to watch. Oh, I'm getting texts. My cousin Alfredo said,
bust the rhymes? Was there? Bust the rhymes? And uh?
And Trey Anastasio from.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
He's not the one that got in trouble right from Fush.
He's not the one from Fish that got.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
In trouble, right the head guy from Fish.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Yeah, one of the guys from Fish got in trouble.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
What child porn?
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah? I think.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
How did I guess? I think it was Trey Man.
I hope not. Yeah, I hope that personal life. Two
daughters stopped by police traffic violation, failed a sobriety test,
publicly thanked the officer. Now you're good, Matt. Okay, he
(17:17):
wouldn't show his face at the next game if he
was a pedal.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Oh, opiate addiction.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Okay, well that's much more forgivable.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah, yeah, do whatever you do. Folks, don't ever type
the two words child porn into your Google.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Search at work.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
At work, I just realized that, don't ever do that.
I typed in fish child porn and I got this
grave warning on my screen that was basically blinking. So
I'm gonna try to just gonna go ahead and clean
up my cash real quick. Tend like that never happened. Hey,
(17:53):
Matn Burbank police are down stare right.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
What happened?
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Listen, guys, you're on the air. And I make these
outrageous claims from time to time, and I was trying
to protect my self legally, so I said allegedly, and
then I googled it and that's ultimately what this came
down to.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Well, we are going to talk to Dallas Braden in
the very next segment. I look, I don't like to
lament what's going on another part of the country. I'm
just talking about the Knicks in the second round, and
there is an absolute empire state building size boner on
(18:25):
the East coast over the fact that they're beating the
Celtics and poor Jason Tatum blew his achilles, which is
totally insane in the calf strain.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
How soon before Jay Z and Beyonce made their way
to the guy.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Probably not soon insane in the calf stream. Would you
like to know why I have anybody. Anybody want to
guess by jay Z and Beyonce aren't showing up anybody.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
She's on tours in the calf string together.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Oh you think they're going to show up there dripping
baby oil?
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Right, trial going on voyeurism, male prostitutes.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
I'm sad that the mushroom Cap poison, mushroom Cap Melbourne,
Australia trial that we talked about yesterday is being eclipsed
by P Diddy's absolute sexual deviancy trial where his kids
are sitting there in the court holding hands with his
mother while everybody talks about all his sexual preferences with
(19:27):
male escorts and things of that.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Nat baby oil, lots and lots of baby oil.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
And I like the fact that everybody's like, we got
to see Johnny deppen ember heard humiliate each other. Why
don't we get to watch this because it's a federal
beef and on the federal.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Beef's not a civil trial.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
My friends, you don't get your teeth, you don't get
your u you don't get your your camera in the court.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Now, you just get your drawings, your court sketch, your
courtroom sketches where Diddy looks a little bit like Fred Sandford,
Oh God, to.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Bring it back to the sports world. Do you think
maybe they'll.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
The sports world. You just said Beyonce and jay.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Z to tie in, did he? Maybe they'll bring the
former UCLA trainer in as a character witness to his name,
Salo Alosi.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
There you go, Solo. Lessie's the Colorado quarterback that Doug
o good.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
No, they can show a pattern of that.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Hit got hit with that that kettlebell well swung. Oh,
that's right, didn't connect. He didn't make pat he though
could have been real problems. Did the video ever come
out of that? Or was threats there? It's there, We
just got to get someone to send it to us.
So there is a video, they say there is a video.
There absolutely is a video. We just need to figure out. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Copy, Well, we'll clear the decks for Dallas, Brandon and
David Vasse. I hate to kick things off with the
East Coast, Matt.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
No, it's good stuff, good stuff, especially with the calves
and Pacers going tonight.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
L A is not out. No, LA was out.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
We're out. Didn't make it out of the first round.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
The Knicks are only in the second round. LA was
out and the world is a blaze like a comment,
La was out. We'll talk to Dallas Brandon to the
next segment. La was out, La is out for the
Petrosen Money Show AMPI seventy LA Sports podcast below the
iHeartRadio app on a schew d Modo. Tired of the
lies Tuesday? What is that?

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Far out Joining us right now. Dallas brand great A's analyst,
does a great job on NBC Sports California on the
A's TV broadcast. Of course, we remember when he threw
a perfect game pitching for the A's. He has a
great podcast called Baseball Is Not Dead And on X
he's at Dallas Braiden two oh nine two o nine
(22:19):
because he's a Stockton guy and I recently was gifted
that Stockton Ports hat the other day. I love it.
The A's doing pretty good, only a game and a
half back of the Mariners, and they're here in town
to take on the Dodgers. It is Dallas Braiden and
his prodigious beard on the Southern California Toyota Dealers celebrity hotline.
(22:42):
What's cracking Dallas? How are you? How much? Boys? How
are we doing?
Speaker 5 (22:45):
It's good to be back, Good to be back home
in Southern California.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Yeah, it's great to have you on, and we are
so excited that you're on, and thank you for doing it.
We know you're busy on a day you have a broadcast.
Are you surprised that the A's are the way they
are this year? And how are they acclimating there all
you guys in Sacramento.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
First off, No, I don't think I'm surprised, but that's
probably because I'm a little biased. I've got an inside track.
I get to watch these guys day in and day out.
Privety what's going on in the offseason. So I think
if you just were sort of able to go back
jump in a hot tub time machine, take a look
at how last year sort of unfolded, how last year ended,
and then you look forward to this year, I think
(23:28):
you would have seen some of these things coming, you know,
like the Lawrence Butler arrival and the emergence through the
second half of last year. Now, sure, it's been a
struggle for the law dog out of the gate I
think in twenty twenty five, but there are so many
other moving parts to this roster that have already started
to show up and make an impact. So as far
as expectation that has been there, am I surprised that
(23:50):
they've been playing this well up until this point?
Speaker 3 (23:52):
No, I am not.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
Do I expect a little more. I do because I
still think the roster is still yet to round itself
out and take complete and total shape. So with all
that being said, surprise, no, expect more. Yes, excited about
how things have gone up, But to this point, sure
is they are a little left to be desired, absolutely,
But I think there's been some great tests ahead of us,
and none bigger than the one they're about to embark
(24:14):
on right here in Hollywood over the next four days.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
How's Sacramento, How's how's the park kind of how's the layout?
How do you think it's going to go over the summer?
Super unique situation. We had it here with the Chargers
for three or four years, you know, in a smaller stadium,
and it was super you know, it was it was exclusive,
it was incredible. The people that went said, they'll never
had a chance to do something like that again. I
would imagine it's kind of similar up there.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Oh, no doubt. You nailed it right on the head.
And I think that's where you can start, is you know,
you know, the term intimate has been has been used.
I think ultimately if you just zoom out and kind
of respect the fact that, hey, they've got big league
ball parks. Excuse me, they've got big league baseball. And
when I say they, I mean the fans in the
immediate area, the Sacramento area there, they have big League
baseball that's just been dropped into their backyard. So are
(25:00):
they gonna Are they gonna show up?
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Have they shown up?
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (25:03):
Is it an exciting experience when when you're able to
take your family and kind of hang out on the grass,
berm out in the outfield and watch Big League baseball.
That that is an experience that not everybody's going to
be afforded in their life. And so I think we've
seen a lot of folks jump on that train early.
As far as acclamation the accommodations that have been made,
I do I constantly take the opportunity to tip my
(25:25):
cap to the folks there with the River Cats, uh
and just the folks who are who are involved with
the ballpark, because they've really, in my opinion, maxed out
in terms of what they can provide for these guys,
what they can do for these guys, And I know
that they are continuing to explore different options understanding that
this is going to be, you know, a few years
or so before they're able to pick up and head
(25:46):
out to the desert in Nevada. So with that being said,
I think the players have done a magnificent job of
rolling with the punches because everybody's sort of settling in
and getting used to their routines and something is as
trivial as getting to the bar and parking and getting
to where you need to go in time creating that routine,
getting comfortable. Those are all things that matter to these
(26:07):
creatures of habit who spend you know, every waking moment
it feels like at the ballpark. So as far as
the professional setting is concerned, we're very lucky that we've
got a roster full of pros who know how to
go about their business and sort of handle that, you know,
trickle down messaging. Accordingly to some of the younger guys
who might feel a certain way about some things, but
I think for the most part, everybody has done a
(26:28):
great job of just adjusting and that'll continue to I
think showcase itself over the summer. As far as the
ballpark and the way the field is playing, look, the
wind is a real factor because there's just not those
two extra decks that you're used to in twenty nine
other ballparks, scratch that, twenty eight this season at least,
So I think, you know, just the surface of the
playing field as quick as it's going to get. The
(26:49):
grounds crew is trying to do everything they can because remember,
by the All Star break, there will be a full
season's worth of games already played on this field. So
the grounds crew is literally and figuratively working overtime, but
to be there every day and see the work that
they're doing. They are doing absolutely everything they can, so
so a big round of applause to those folks.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
The word is that you're already making a name for yourself.
Dallas at old Town Sacramento, just cutting a wide swath
down there, even at the jokes Crabshack, a lot of
fun down by the.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
River's that's what we do, baby, that's what we do.
That goes I had when I was playing there, Man,
I would I would go for my you know, for
my extended hour long runs, and I'd make sure to
make my way down by the river because inevitably during
the summer there's folks out there boating. They've got a tube,
they've got a wait board. They'd love to take, you know,
my ugly self out there and me wet. Maybe they
were trying to drown me, I don't know, but either way,
(27:43):
a free boat ride in one hundred and ten degree
heat in the middle of the summer out there, I'm
all aboard.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
I'm all in on.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
That kind of off topic, well not off topic, it's baseball,
but you're, you know, a player kind of where were
you at when you were playing on the Pete Roast thing?
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Does it?
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Does it do anything for you that that Manford made
that announcement today that he's going to be eligible because
he's now passed away, Like, how does that make you feel?
Speaker 3 (28:08):
You know?
Speaker 5 (28:08):
It is it's a touchy subject for I think a
lot of obvious and a lot of different reasons. I
think ultimately we always kind of go back to how
the Hall is revered, how its membership is handled, and
how those things are awarded, how they're sort of you know,
dissected at times, and you can understand and I think,
(28:31):
you know what Commissioner Manford said about, you know, sort
of living out the lifetime. Band comes to an end
once you come to an end, and whether or not
that opens the door for admittance into the Hall, whether
that's layered or there's going to be certain limitations to
how this individual or these individuals are celebrated and revered.
(28:51):
You know that all remains to be seen because I
have always sort of stood or kind of died on
the hill that it is. It is in the museum
that is meant to tell the history of the game.
It does a phenomenal job of that, but history is
not always flowery and beautiful, it doesn't always smell good,
doesn't always taste good, And there are parts in that
Hall that I think tell those stories as well, because
(29:12):
they are extremely important to the integrity of our game,
and fans who didn't grow up in those times need
the education and need to understand why certain players mean
what they mean to our game. And so I think
figuring out a way to contextualize the impact of certain
individuals is going to be the challenge of the Hall
(29:33):
of Fame and its members and the folks who make decisions,
because you want to be able to tell the story
of baseball in its totality, and sometimes that can get uncomfortable.
I respect that, But if we're talking about the integrity
of the game, where do we draw the line in
telling the whole story? So that's where I'm really curious
to figure out or find out how this unfolds.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Eloquently said how daunting if it is at all? Is
this your team on paper when you look at it?
Taking them on it from a different league and coming
down here to la.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
Serious question, Pete, come on, you got a thirty year
lineup rock an MVP hardware pal that's just to get
it started, and that's just the dudes. That's just the
dude's swinging the bat. Not to mention when healthy, what
you guys are rolling out there on the bump really
one through nine, one through five, starting rotation, the bullten
is deep. Look, it is what it is. You know
that you're playing right now. The measuring stick the gold
(30:31):
standard for lots of different reasons. So I think that's
ultimately how you have to approach coming into a series
like this against the behemoth that is the Los Angeles Dodgers,
is you focus on execution because that's what you can control.
Control the controllables, as cliche as that is, but it
does me if I'm a pitcher, no good trying to
or figuring out worrying about how the fourth hitter and
(30:55):
the fifth hitter are going to react when it's Otani
that I have to pay attention to because he's the
first guy in the box. Let me win that battle
and then we'll move on to the next guy, because
that's an MVP waiting and the guy behind him is
an MVP weighting, just lurking in the hole. So I
think just the centralized focus of the task at hand
is the best way you can get to work against
the club like this, because you're going to need specific
(31:17):
focus for all nine plus innings.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
You mentioned the law Dog, and what a hell of
a nickname for Lawrence Butler. One of the great nicknames,
the law Dog Dallas when you were playing. Baseball's known
for great nicknames. Best nickname that you've ever heard, as
it is attached to a major leaguer.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Oh Man, best nickname that I've ever I mean, I'll
tell you a great story. We had super veteran Russ
Springer in our clubhouse. I think it is twenty eleven,
and we had some young guys by the name of
Trevor K. Hill Brett Anderson and maybe this was a
couple of years before, but Russ Finger again had been
(31:56):
in the game. I me, you're talking about a guy
who had spent time in the bullpen with Leaf myth
great for the Cardinals, right exactly. So, uh, Trevor ca
Hill talk. You know, he's all of twenty years old
at the time, I think, but he's talking to Russ Springer,
who's got cleats older than him. And Russ says, all right, buddy,
you got a you got one nickname. It's gonna follow
you around for the rest of your life in this game.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
What is it?
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Ready to go? And Trevor just kind of looked at
him and said, uh, tero Dactyl he had he just
completely Froz had no idea what to say. So Springer said, doctor,
what is kept moving? And I have Trevor ca Hill
in my phone to this day as not Trevor ca
Hill but as Dactyl. So that was that was That
was a great It's a great moment in our clubhouse.
(32:39):
But I'm sure there's better ones. That's the one that
sits out.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
One guy who's interesting for this series is Jacob Wilson,
who's a local kid from the area, a young star
for the A's. You guys see a lot of young
stars in that in that franchise.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
Well, i'll tell you what, Watching Jacob Wilson emerge us
has been in a real treat. I got to have
eyes on him early on when he arrived to pro Ball,
saw him in spring and saw him in some different
just some different venues. And all the kid has ever
done is hit, hit, hit, and he's not going to
(33:15):
allow you with the power. He's not going to hit
it into the second deck, and there's nothing wrong with
that because I think, as far as a manager is concerned,
you want to be able to look up and down
your lineup, look up and down the roster, and account
for certain things, account for outs from guys in the bullpen,
account for at bats with guys in your lineup, guys
off the bench. Right what are they going to give me?
What can I expect? And I think Jacob Wilson, when
(33:36):
you start to zoom out and go across the league
as far as what you can expect at bat to
it bat, this is one of the most solid and
dependable guys going right now. I mean, in my opinion
for front front runner for American League Griffy of the Year.
All too early to have the conversation, but I'm starting it,
and I think when you just watch him adjust to
(33:57):
the speed of the game, that has been something that
has really kind of rab guy's attention early and maybe
sent them back down to triple A and reevaluate some things.
We watched it happen with Jackson Holiday the Uber prospect
in Baltimore. So to watch oh Willy walk off as
I've dubbed him, come up and handle the bat just
like a wizard. The way he does has been nothing
(34:17):
short of impressive. There's not a moment that looks too
big or too fast for him. He actually hunts those
moments right, second, and third. Nobody out won out. How
do I get the job done? He's already got a
great approach, a really good idea how to do it.
His father, Jack Wilson. Anytime you grow up with that
sort of big league pedigree, I mean he's being put
to bed on stories on how to go about your
business and how to do it the right way. So
(34:38):
it's no shock that he gets here and is able
to have the impact that he's had.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
I'm supposed to say goodbye, but I'm looking at it.
I got to ask just a real quick one for you,
Dallas from tex Awesome a Texas Tech American River College, Stockton.
What's the hottest game you ever played in?
Speaker 5 (34:56):
Oh Man? The hottest game I've ever played in Sacramento,
no doubt, Sacramento. And it's probably what we would call
a dare game. And those are the games where you
know it's a minor league game. You got the local
elementary schools, they're all out on a field trip and
they're You're screaming SpongeBob SquarePants theme song for seven straight innings.
(35:17):
It's one hundred and twelve degrees and you just want
to stick your head in an ammonia ice bucket, never
come up for air. So yeah, that's how that feels.
Also out in Texas, I'll tell you what. Just sweltering
in that bullpen in the old ballpark in Arlington. I
mean you were quite literally in an oven. You're sitting
on an aluminum bench with astro turf in front of you,
(35:37):
staring at a just a flashed concrete wall with aluminum
outfield bleachers baking you from all sides. So I'm a
dude who doesn't have fifteen pounds to spare on any
given day or week. And I was walking out of
there making sure I had weights in my pocket so
I didn't fly away. I was losing half my body
weight out there.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Geez right, Dallas, Brandon add in Sacramento, you get so hot,
then you hallucinate that old man's sonner has got to
revive you with a bucket of water full of gold.
God bless you, Dallas, thanks for doing it, and enjoy
Los Angeles while you're here.
Speaker 5 (36:10):
Any coyboys. We'll see it. Take any sure.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
I appreciate that Star Baseball is Dead podcast.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Good stuff there, Matt from Dallas, Braiden and his beer Kates. Uh,
look at Tim Kates. Just three strikes this week right
down the d.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Such a steam head. He knows all the seam head
pods and.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Braiden.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
And you didn't even bring up your ports hat. You
got Petrose and the mail.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yes he did, Oh you did right at the start
of these seconds.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Oh gosh, I really should start listening to the show.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Just cheap that mic off man and take the compliments.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
You know what, Kates? I thought that a long time ago,
and I figured, no, I'm not doing that. We'll be
right back with some textosos.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
You left him out there and they need too long.
Stay with us, everybody, first pitch Dodgers on deck at
six and David Vassie will join us at five thirty.
Set the tone prior to passing along to he and
(37:12):
Tim ka. It's big thinking of Dallas. Braden part of
the a's broadcast on the telly. Much more than that, though,
he's a real baseball man.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Oh so baseball got pitched a perfect game?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
How about that?
Speaker 3 (37:28):
I mean, I just said, how about it. I was
impressed by him, said he come on anytime, Matt.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
I rather enjoyed that conversation.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Hey, we the A's are in Seattle to take on
the Mariners. Run us right now, Dallas Braden.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
It's gone up there in Pacific Northwest.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
What's the craziest place you ever been? Up there?
Speaker 2 (37:52):
How about that?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
It's time for some text.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Texts a line brought to you by your so called
Toyota dealers.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
We make it.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Easy, pacers. Fan here, pee and you hit the nail
on the head, No f and way, no Sparatu misses
out on the spike, lead jumping around like an idiot.
NBA Finals, it's it's it's right on the horizon.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
If they can get Cooper flag to Dallas Luka, Doncic
to l A, I guess it'd be rather easy to get.
I mean he already you know, had someone take a
you know, just cut the Achilles there, he'll push everything. Yeah,
they already got Tatum out of there to make sure
they makes get out of the Boston round.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
They get they poisoned him with achilles. Poisoned mushroom can
exactly right, Ciche if my name was Christu Christidiu. Would
that be the Greek equivalent to Chris Christofferson? Yes?
Speaker 2 (38:48):
It would, Is that right?
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Pretty much? Yeah? Uh, just like the he left Daddy,
he left Terry terryson. Uh. I got hired as this
is about your charcooterie talk, Matt. Oh, yeah, I'm sure
you'll be more interested in this. I got hired as
the seasonal manager for the local Hickory Farms Kiosk. When
(39:11):
I got hired, I thought, how the hell is this
a profitable business? Eight years later, it paid to redo
my backyard, refurbish reroof and repaint my house. People lose
their freaking minds for charcouterie. It is.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
It is one of my favorite. Now we don't go
to the malls like we used to, but every single year.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Now the malls have been destroyed by the teenagers.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Sadly, they don't go anymore. They don't want to go
there and smoke in the parking lot, hang out in
the food court and fight in front of the Merry
Go Round. Unfortunately, they don't go, and that means we
can't have the Hickory Farms center of the hallway or
center of the whatever you would want to call that
the concourse, yeah, yeah, the summer sausage cheese, yes, the arcade.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Kate's is gonna blow all his new cash on pink cocaine,
Yes he is. It's possible. Pacific Islander eligibility check. As
you guys know, it is Asian American and Pacific Islander month.
I believe it's Asian American Pacific Islander night up for
(40:24):
the Seattle Mariners game tonight. Somebody sent me an alert.
I think there's a special jersey and everything involved. You
know how much we support that here all month a
lot thirteen days in. It's not a day, it's a month.
Pacific Islander eligibility check. Petros. I am a forty nine
year old male, white is milk with red facial hair
(40:46):
and bush. I grew up in Idaho playing high school
football in the same division as your Orfino maniacs. However,
I moved to Hawaiian twenty fifteen and then moved to
Saipan in late twenty six I know local terms and
don't often wear long pants. Am I a Pacific Islander?
(41:07):
Yes you are.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
In our book it is your month, sir. You're You're
known as one of the very very rare Pacific Islanders,
the people of the Red Bush.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Very freaking Saipan.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
If you live in Saipan and you wear pedal pushes
all the time, then yeah, you are a Pacific Islander.
Dave Roberts rubbed his ass with an ice cube. Gross. No,
Dave Roberts looked as if he was rubbing his ass
on ice Cube's leg while he was singing Today was
(41:43):
a good day. At the celebration for the Dodgers World
Series at Chavez Ravine, it was an awkward moment, did
not eclipse the celebraty the overall celebration of the day.
He was feeling it the noodley legs of Jack Flaherty.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
On the their hand. Let's kind of have a drink,
you know, I.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Can't have seven, eight, nine, ten, fifteen drinks in an hour?
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Won the damn World Series.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
For God's sakes, Kate's is swinging his puzzo this week.
What a great interview with Dallas Braden. Kates deserves to
swing his pooso for that congratulations. Wasn't it Manfred that
left let the Houston Astros keep their World Series title
and let aj Hinch still manage in the big leagues?
But he's a hardass on Pete rose f that guy. Well,
(42:33):
we can ask Massa about it, but it is a
it is a hot topic. We'll be right back with
more great sports talk. We've got the great sports talk word,
the number song of the day. We're happy to be
with you on this Tire of the Lies Tuesday, this
two ed mono Tuesday. Clayton Kershaw, like Matt said, is
(42:58):
going to be on the pregame show with David mass
and we're going to have Davon in our final hour.
