Don't miss an episode. We're with you, Yeah, follow.
Speaker 1 (00:30):

Speaker 4 (00:41):
They're not here. You don't have to play this song.
I don't have a quote either. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No,
I don't got a no fancy quote.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Like failing to prepare, preparing to fail, something like that.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
VI.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
It's a Petros and Money show on a twouesday afternoon,
except no Petros and no Matt money Smith. The boys
on vacation today in their place though, one and only
DAVIDSS and Tim Kaster and me of course Tim Kates
here for the next two and a half hours leading
up to Dodgers' pregame wronggo Casino, Dodgers on Deck, Dave.
(01:20):
As much as we talk daily text messages, Dodger pregame, postgame,
I don't see you very often. So this is kind
of cool to be face to face with the great
David Vass. Yeah, I was told I'm not allowed to
go to Milwaukee. They were concerned I would go down
the slide again, since it makes sense, so they said,
you know what, the team's scuffling right now. We don't
(01:43):
need bigger issues with you going down the slide and
trying to redeem yourself. So maybe we'll do that next year.
But yeah, we don't see each other. I don't see
my family a lot. I don't see Ronnie Fossil a lot.
I brought Ronnie the Yamamoto bobblehead, like I promise.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Dave, you paid it off. I appreciate that you're welcome, Ronnie.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Great.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Look, Hey, I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to
be here for the week, and we have a great
show for you today because this allows both of us
to kind of stretch our arms, our sports talk arms
out and Kenley Jansen is thriving with the Angels. The
all time saves leader for the Dodgers. He is going
to join us at one thirty. Also, the only UCLA
(02:27):
basketball coach to win a national championship not named John
Wooden is going to join us. Jim Herrick will join
us at two forty five. He is the nineteen ninety
five head coach of the national champion UCLA Bruins and
as much as old Ben halland wants to be relevant
(02:48):
with his Final Four begging for Final four banners to
be hung up at poly Pavilion. I got news for you, Ben,
You're not the guy that won the national championship. It's
Jim Herrick. And he's a big Dodger fan. I see
him at Dodgers Stadium. So Coach Herrick will join us
at two forty five. Three straight final fours he didn't win.
He didn't win, not a banner, but yes they do
(03:09):
count for Yeah. He also had Darren Collison guarding Derrick
Rose instead of a guy by the name of Russell Westbrook.
You know, they always used to say Dean Smith was
the only guy to keep Jordan under twenty points. Ben
Helen's the only guy to keep Russell Westbrook under five points.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
That's true. He had no idea what he had, didn't
start a Michael Roll got more playing time yeah than
Russell West?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yeah of course? Yeah, well great, great job by Ben.
Maybe that's why you have your begging for Final Four
banners and not a national championship to be hung at Paulie.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
We'll get into some NBA Lakers and Clippers free agency
is over a weekend. We got players moving around of
the Lakers done in free agency, with DeAndre Ayton now
a Laker big man. The Clippers. Who knows what they're
going going on there, but Jovan Buja will join us
talk a little Lakers basketball in the two o'clock hour.
DeAndre Ayton being introduced to the media out in al
(04:01):
Segundo today, David.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Oh, very exciting news.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
You know.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
I was there when the Lakers introduced Kwame Brown to
the media twenty twenty something years ago.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Long ago.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, two thousand and four, the year after Shack left.
They decide Chris Mim and Kwame Brown would be great
fill ins for Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant was not
a big fan of Kwame Brown's Michael Jordan not a
big fan of Kwame Brown's and look, the biggest question
for DeAndre Ayton is the same question about Kwame Brown,
(04:31):
his motor, his motivation. That seems to be a big
question about this guy. And who was going to motivate
DeAndre Ayton. I mean, pat Riley passed on him for
a reason in the draft. When he came out, the
Sons took him and he was running their own backyard.
So as many Victory labs as everybody that covers the Lakers.
(04:52):
And that's a different story for a different day. But
the NBA coverage is so soft these days. It's a
long ways away from Tim Kawakami, Howard Beck and Tim Brown.
I'll tell you that right now, Tim kak.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
The NBA has changed, David. It changed literally fifteen years
ago today.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Oh yeah, what happened today?
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Fifteen years ago today, July eighth, twenty ten in Connecticut.
That's when Jim Gray sat down with Lebron James and
he made the decision, the decision to leave Cleveland and
go chase championships in Miami with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
He changed the NBA forever. He made it a players
league from then until now, and the league has paid
(05:32):
because of it. Well, I mean, I agree with that
to a certain extent, and honestly, the teams are the
ones that should be held responsible for all that, because
at the end of the day, they're the ones that
bent over backwards for Lebron James. And look, he's a
once in a lifetime talent. He just believes that he
(05:53):
is his own entity, and there's something may be said
about that, and that's part of the resentment factor from
those that don't appreciate how great he is that no
matter what team he goes to, it's all about Lebron.
He did that in Cleveland, he did that in Miami,
and he did that when he first got here with
the Lakers. But I'm not like your guys, Petros and
(06:15):
Money that have perpetual hate for Lebron James. I love
the way Lebron James plays, it's just some of the
things he says off the court, the way he really
hasn't ingratiated himself with fans in Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
With this city one. Yeah, I agree, I agree, and
I feel like that's the reason why there really isn't
that strong connection to Lebron James. And he's gonna get
a rude awakening, because Luca seems to be that type
of guy that is a people person that wants to
be in the city, wants to connect with fans. He
understands how important the fans are, and Lebron just believes
(06:52):
he's above everybody.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Day.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
We got to get into the biggest story that's happening
right now. Oh yeah, and that's the Dodgers. The Dodger
struggles lost now four in a row, swept by the Astros.
Embarrassed yesterday in Milwaukee. Yoshi Yamamoto couldn't get out of
the first inning forty plus pitches. The defense behind him
didn't help. And we got to get into Mookie Betchs
oh job stop. But this Dodgers team is rudderless right now.
(07:18):
This Dodgers team is about as flat as you can
get a week before the All Star Break. I don't
know if it's senior itis, David or what, but this
team can't get to the All Star break fast enough.
Injuries and I think just a team that's burnt out
right now, running away with the division.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Tim from Burbank, thank you for your phone call. What yeah,
I would hang up on you. I mean, you sound
like one of these callers after a game. You've set
me off already trigger points. Every time the Dodgers lose,
it's because Mookie Betts is playing shortstop. Completely false. Number two.
They're rudderless, Yeah, literally rudderless. They don't have maximunt see.
(07:56):
And by the way, phone lines are open at this
point in time of the day, which they usually are
not eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy.
I want you to call in with the sun out
and apologize for wanting Max Munsey off this team. After
two weeks, you're gonna see how valuable Max Munsey is
to the Dodgers. The next three weeks, you've already seen it.
(08:18):
It's not the same lineup. So they're without Max Munsey. Rudderless, okay.
They are without Taioscar Hernandez. And even when he's on
the field, they are without Taioscar Hernandez because he is
trying to play through pain. And my contention is, and
I asked Dave Roberts about this on Sunday, he should
be placed on the il. He's hitting a buck eighty
(08:40):
eight the last month. He's trying to play through something.
He's not able to cover a large, big part of
the field and right field. He's not that bad of
a right fielder. He's limited. You got Key Hernandez on
the IL now, so you're without Munsey, you are without
Taoscar even when he's out there, you're without Keith a Hernandez.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
No Show, Hey, no, Fred? Oh wait, no, those guys
are still out Yeah, they're still out there. But Show
has thirty home runs. You can't throw him under the bus.
But he's swinging really hard, and you wonder if he's
just going all or nothing. Way too much to take
on the burden. So you're right. I don't know what
you were trying to do there when you said they're
(09:21):
rudderless or if you recognize that they are banged up.
But yeah, you're right, they are rudderless. It's not because
of a lack of try. No, it's because the engine
has failed and they're trying to figure out how to
get back to shore. That's the problem with this Dodgers
team right now. They've got the weapons, they've got the
beautiful boat, they've got the engine. Unfortunately it's just not
working right now. You got, as you mentioned, the guys
(09:42):
are hurt. I understand that.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
But look at their lineup last night. You got third
base Miguel Rojas, right, you got Usterio Ruis coming up
in big spots. Does that sound like this three seventy
five Dodgers. No? No, I mean, come on, recognize who's
on the field and not just go the easy way
out and say this team is on senior itis. I've
(10:05):
been thinking about that all the way down all of Avenue.
You know how senior it is down Allive Avenue and.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Bourbank's sure what's coming down Olive. But I look at
show how you mentioned his struggles. He is absolutely struggling.
Maybe he's trying to do too much Mookie Bets. Let's
be honest, Dave. We've got to come clean here if
we're Mooky and say, at what point is shortstop a
realistic opportunity for him moving forward? Is this gonna be
a continued situation for him in short Is this just
what it is now? With Mookie Bets the remains?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Why are you saying that because they lost four in
a row?
Speaker 4 (10:36):
No, because yesterday in the first inning he had two
outs and an opportunity to get out of it with
a three run deficit. Instead the floodgates open for two
more because he threw the ball away and it wasn't
just yesterday. Freddie Freeman and I've argued this for the
last year and a half, should have more than one
goal glove twenty eighteen with the Braves is the only
goal glove he constantly saves. Mookie bets, Maximuntsey, rojas kek
(11:00):
all of them, Kim.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
So every throw is bad.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
I'd say at least half of the are not great
throat Freddy. Freddy is the lipstick to cover up a
lot of mistakes from those middle lines.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
I'm not gonna disagree with that, but that seems very extreme.
Maybe Don Kuko should get new TVs because I'm not
sure you're seeing the throws very well and that was
a bad play. You're right, should have gone to second,
should have gone to second, should have thrown to first
a little bit stronger, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Is one example, though there's a lot of examples of
bad throat.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
They're not losing games because Mookie bets his defense had shortstop.
I would contend he was worse last year. You can
make the argument, yeah, a strong one before the injury. Yeah,
he was awful last year. This year, Mookie bets this year.
I think he's been fine. I think he's been fine. Well,
the airs will tell you, yes what, he's a top five.
I'm not just saying the airs.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
You know.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
The only part that I have questions about, and he's
tried to correct it, is the nuances of the position.
Are you gonna be on relay throws? Where are you
supposed to be on base hits to right field? Those
are the things that don't really show up, but it
feels like that's the default answer. Every time the Dodgers
lose a game, Why is Mookie Bets playing shortstop? Well,
(12:16):
I'll say it's one of the one of the reasons.
Every time they lose, somebody calls in and even today,
they haven't even played today. You know, after twelve o'clock,
you're not supposed to bring up yesterday. I don't know
if you know that. But what are we supposed to
do for the next two and a half hour talk
about the team, But you're bringing up yesterday?
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Yeah, I'm a big Alexis Diaz guy.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
The cavalry has arrived in the bullpen.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Hey is here? You want to bet a night? You
play short You want to play a beta night at
Don Kuko's Alexis DZ turns into a high leverage, big
time reliever, and not just chips in guacamole. I'm talking
about a full fledged Fahda dinner for me. I'll do it,
all right, Let's do it right now. All right, we'll
put a bet down Alexis Diaz for the rest of
(13:00):
he is going to be a big time reliever for
the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I hope he is. I hope.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I'm just mocked me. You just mocked me.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
No, I hope I had to pay off that bed
David because that means he's doing something good for the
Dodgers' bullpen.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
How many people have called in about Mookie bets and
how many people have called in to apologize about Max Munsey.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Not enough people have apologized for about Max Mounsey.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Were you you were jumping off the Max month Sea
bendwagon too?
Speaker 4 (13:22):
I had one foot out in the water. I was
getting ready to bail. Not surprising. Well, I mean, let's
be honest. The glasses saved his his season at the plate. Well,
of course it did, Okay, got him. At least he
did something to get better. I credit him for that absolutely,
But if he didn't get his eyes fixed, and a
WHI why didn't he get his eyes did? Why didn't
he get him fixed? In April February, Mark he didn't
(13:44):
know about his problem at the plateau.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
No he didn't.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
He didn't know.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
No, he didn't know. And then he realized it. He
went to go see doctor Lou. You're wearing glasses right now.
I need him.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
I can't see the monitors. Geez, I realize that's broken.
I knew it's point David. I couldn't see anymore and
I needed glasses. I wish Max Mouns you would have
realized that that'sng you're broken eight six six, nine eighty
seven two five seventy. Kelly Jansen's gonna join us at
the bottom of the hour next hour, jovon boo.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Is that all you're gonna do is complain about Mookie
playing shortstop and to complain about all? Right, go ahead?
What else? What are other Kate's complaints?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yoshi Yamamoto yesterday? What in the world happened? Is final
start or potentially final start? He's starting Sunday? Well, I
think you should blow off that start and.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Just go He's gonna start Sunday and not pitching the
All Star Game.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
What happened yeshould in Milwaukee? Two thirds of an inning,
he gives up the five runs, two of which came
after the Mookie Bets air.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
But being a former catcher, you should know what happened
Will Smith. For blaming with Will Smith, yeah we are,
Yeah we are, because he has become way too predictable
with this sequence scene. Dave Roberts even alluded to that
after the game. Dave protects his players, and he basically questioned,
what the heck was Will Smith doing to Andrew Vaughan.
(14:58):
He's asked for three sliders in a row. Andrew Vaughn
is not a good hitter. But if you throw cement
mixers at eighty something miles an hour up in the
strike zone instead of throwing ninety five, you're gonna give
him a better chance to hit. And he saw four
of the same pitch in a row, and then the
(15:20):
fifth one was up in the zone that he could hit.
So you have to wonder about that. And at home,
I believe it was the second game of that series,
or the first night, Will Smith called for eight straight
fastballs against Mauricio Dubon. What is Will Smith doing?
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Right?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Now, and look, Will Smith is the best hitting catcher
this side of Cal Rawley, no doubt about it. Great
throwing catcher as well, can argue with that, But that
doesn't mean he's not above questioning and recalibrating. This happened
last year as well, So somebody's got to help him
(15:58):
recalibrate because he hasn't been as sharp as he has
been for the majority of the season. Do the Dodger pitchers,
and I asked his serious, do the Dodger pitchers not
have the ability to shake him off? Or I don't
know the dynamics of it now with the yeah, they
can shake him off. They can, But Yamamoto's not that
type of guy. All right, what's next on the Kate's complaints?
(16:18):
All Right, so I've crossed off Mookie Betts as short. Yeah,
I've crossed off the fact that Yoshiyama motives one bad start.
He's an all start.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
One bad start, okay, is that we're just gonna call
it a hiccup yesterday.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
But it's a bigger one than that. But I mean, yeah, okay,
Will Smith. If Will Smith is gonna get credit, he's
got to take some of the blame too.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
No, I'm with you on that. Freddy Freeman struggles at
the plate. Oh boy, he's still floating around three hundred,
which is still fantastic.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
I get that.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
But the struggles of Freddie Freeman this year injury related?
Is it sta Is it still because of the ankle? Yes, yes, yes,
his ankle is hurt. He's playing through it. It takes
him an hour and a half to get ready for games.
He talked about the reason why he got back on
track for a small amount of time was because his
(17:08):
front foot was on time. You don't think his right
ankle is affecting his timing on his front foot. And
you may not have seen this at Don Kuko's cantina,
but Freddie Freeman jumped up for a high throw I
believe from Mookie Betts by the way, No, no, and
I think he reaggravated his right ankle jumping up for
(17:30):
that for that high throw.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
So yeah, the right ankle is a problem. I'm not
gonna nitpick for they guy's hitting three. He sounded like
he were. I mean, I'm just pointing, he said, that
was one of your complaints.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I'm pointing out some of the problems right now for
a team that's lost four in a row, and David,
you said, like Ken from Newport Beach right now, Dave
Roberts alluded to this. There's no arguing in this. He said,
this what three series ago. Yeah, we may be winning,
but he wasn't happy with the way this team was
winning and the way his team was playing. Despite the
wins against the White Sox, Yeah, playing in Kansas Ey
the way they did, almost getting swept.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
You're right, but you know what the reality is, Tim,
the Dodgers still have the best record in the National League.
With everything that you're complaining about. And this might be
a new segment on Petro some money show, Kate's complaints.
I think that's a really good segment. It's better than
word number song, Dead Alive. Guy, spice up, you gotta
(18:23):
spruce up the house, Kate's complaints. There you go. You're welcome.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Meanwhile, the lead's now down to six in the division
the Giants.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Oh no, I am concerned the lead might go down
to four games by the Star breaking. I am concerned
that it may be shrunk to four games before the
break because of all the injuries. But I got news
for you second half of the season. Snail Zilla's back,
Blake Trennon's back, Tyler Glassnail's back tomorrow, Moncy. You know,
(18:57):
I don't know if you heard me say this after
the game last night, but before the game's Sunday morning,
Munsey was moving around a lot better than he was
just twenty four hours before. So maybe he's back by
uh mid August, which is big. The trade deadline's coming,
So I got news for you. That's as close as
the Padres or Giants are going to get.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Am I complaining a little bit? Am I a little frustrated?
Speaker 1 (19:21):
David?
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Yes, absolutely, And I think a lot of Dodger fans
are with me on this at eight sixty six nine eight,
but also do daytime Dodger talk. I'm with you in
that I see the longer picture and I see.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
No, you're not.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
You're in the here moment, blast now coming back.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
You don't know you're not. You can't say that, no
you're not. You're completely acting like the sky is falling,
that they are the Rockies instead of the Dodgers, just
because of four losses in a row. That's how you
started this. Shows No, you're not mister big picture. It's
more you're not big picture Cats. You're not more than
four losses. You are the here and now. Now. I
(19:57):
know why these two Jackals three to six are panicking
every day because you create a panic.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Not true, not true at all. I see you as
you are stressed out. Why they played against Kansas City
the way they You know they be on the White
Sox because everybody beats up on the White Sox. I agree,
they're not playing their best right now. They're not, and
there's there's obviously reasons for that. Yeah, they're hurts out.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
They don't have a full squad and they're big three. Otani,
Bets and Freeman are not playing like MVPs and Mookie Betts.
You talk about defense, that's what the joke is. It's
not the defense, it's the offense. He's hitting two fifty.
He's been very average, and I'll use the word adjective
(20:38):
that Mookie Betts likes to use super super average. That's
who Mooki Betts has been offensively. It's not shortstop defense
has been fine. It's the offense that has been crazy bad.
Eight six six, nine eighty seven two five seven. We
got Kelly Jansen coming up at the bottom of the hour.
Angels behave yourself when he comes on Dodgers all time closes.
(21:01):
I just don't embarrass me. I don't embarrassment you guys.
Just go having fun time together for ten twelve minutes.
You need a regroup.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Let's go to Ryan and Glendale here on a five
seventy l A Sports, David Vassa, Tim Kats and for
Petro some money on this Tuesday afternoon. Ryan, welcome, How
are you doing?
Speaker 5 (21:15):
Buddy?
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Hey doing great?
Speaker 6 (21:18):
Thank you taking my call. Sam and David.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
You're welcome. What do you have to say now I.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
Want to do?
Speaker 7 (21:25):
I am sorry, Max, I'm sorry Max. I wanted to
send you out of town. I wanted to bring Nolan
Ernato in and I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Man.
Speaker 7 (21:36):
I'll never never doubt you again, even if you go
into another slump.
Speaker 8 (21:41):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
There we go, All right, there we go. You're gonna
miss Max Muncie for the next month.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Trust me, big time, big time.
Speaker 8 (21:50):
I call him goggles now.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Yeah, I'm gonna see what you did right there. All right,
thank you for the phone call. Hang up on right now.
It's rapid fire.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Here Jim and Sandy, Welcome to afi seventy l A
Sports with David Mass and Tim Kates.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
How you doing, Jim Oh, you guys are cracking me up.
I love me some Bass, I love me some Kate David,
let's suck.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
Kate is so emotional listening. I have to you know,
he needs more fastaying his life.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
Well, let's talk about your recalibration. Ever since you broke
your shoulder, I feel like you've come back.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
See see, you're not see fake news right there. It
wasn't my shoulder, it was my right wrist and six ribs.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
I'm sorry, Hey, I'm.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Not a Dodger pitcher. My shoulder is fine.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
But I'm telling you, since you recalibrate from the injury
down the slide, you've just been money. You're awesome. You
you get the dirt, you stick the truth. I love it,
I love you, and I love the show. But enough
about that.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
That tell me how great I am. I want to
hear more.
Speaker 5 (22:57):
No, boy, I'm going to tell you how to fix
the Dodgers right now. First of all, we got to
have a little bit more patience at the plate. I
swear the swings lately have been just like everybody's grinding
and out of the zone and switch, you know, letting
strikes go by and then swinging at some kind of
breaking crap that's outside of the zone. Terrible. It's ugly
(23:20):
to watch it. I hate it. I hate when they
do that. And secondly, I think at the trade deadline,
I think I think we should pivot and say, look,
if the best bat available is an outfielder, then take it.
If the best bat is an infielder shortstop, then move
Mooki to the outfield. He's got better rains out there
(23:41):
than either Ko or Conforto by a long shot, by
a long shot. And I see some of those balls
that Michael's caught. Great, he slid, he caught him, but
he had to slide to get get there. I don't
think he's got the best range of outfielders, and he
isn't making up with his back.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
I would say, I would say Conforido's playing a better
left field than Taoscar's playing right field these days with
how limited he is with that left groin. And I
don't know if you want this now, Tim, we could
do this later. But I have a dream trade scenario
for the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Dave Savid, all right, let's get some more vass A
love in here. Gabriel and Fillmore. Gabriel, I love Fillmore.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Hey, how's it going, Tim, How's how's it going?
Speaker 4 (24:29):
It's going better for Kate's than it is. Me doing great,
Gabriel love Fillmore. Love driving by there and we go
up to Carpentria.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
Oh gosh, oh yeah, man, definitely if you guys, definitely
would Oh man, I would definitely recommend the restaurant Iichi
Wawa if you guys are ever passing through next time,
great place.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Okay, thank you. I usually down through Fillmore.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
Oh yeah, yeah, forty. I think it's forty. But yeah, so,
you know, watching the Dodgers the past couple of games
them on a losing street, I'm definitely more on the
big picture optimistic side with mister David vasse here. That's right,
as as you mentioned, as as you mentioned, you know,
we still have the best record in the NL. Where
(25:13):
two games behind and should I think it's uh the Detroit.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
And trust me, the Astros are going to have the
best record in the American League by the time the
season's over. And I'll just prepare you for this. The
Dodgers are going to play the Astros in the World Series.
Just be ready for that, and you better hope that
Dodgers uh can do something better than what we saw
at Dodgers Stadium this past weekend. Because the Astros are
(25:40):
the best team I have seen in baseball this season,
best team the Dodgers have played.
Speaker 8 (25:47):
Oh wow, that definitely haven't heard someone mentioned that. Yes,
I'll keep an eye on that.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Yeah, please do.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Calling.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
You're being too respectful.
Speaker 8 (25:58):
Sorry, sorry, David, I'll keep to I'll keep it a
little more, uh a less formal. Bye, thank you. Yeah, no,
we we have the best record in the NL. You know,
I think it's just some fatigue. It's it's a long season.
We've had a Plathoro.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Sounds pretty good. Keep going, Gabriel, you're boring me to sleep, Gabriel.
The Astros might be the best team I've seen all year,
and Gabriel's the most boring caller I've taken all year.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
You just let him keep going. He would give Ronnie
Fossio uh a nice nap time right there. I mean
you were just trying to kill the show right there
before ken Lee Jansen joins us.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I want him to get to his point.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
We love Gabriel, we love we love fillmore.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Thank you Gabriel. Appreciate the phone call coming up here,
harp Teria Kates. The Petros and Money Show with David
Veasse and Tim Kats. We're gonna hear from Jovan Bouhan
next hour. We'll mix up a little Lakers Clippers talk
with him. Jim Herrick next hour. Next soh ken Lee
Janssen Dodgers all time close lead. Now with the Angels
and they're having themselves a pretty good spret stretch here
(27:04):
in the Al West. We'll hear from Kenley Janssen. Next
in for Petro some money on this Tuesday afternoon of
Flex Alert. Yes, David, Tim Kinksy LA Sports.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Make AM five to seventy or your favorite AM five
seventy LA Sports podcast a preset on the iHeartRadio app
using Apple car Play or Android Auto.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Road Trip all summer with LA Sports. It's the Petros
Money Show. David Vats, Tim Kates in for PMS. Don't
forget This Friday, the second stop of the twelfth annual
PMS Summer Tour is at September's tap Room and Eatery
in Rancho Cucamonga right off the two ten Freeway at
Haven Avenue. Come on out, hang out from three until six.
Great drink and food specials. We got Dodger ticket giveaways,
(27:57):
Quakes tickets to give away, a fifty five inch wes HDTV,
and a two night stay to giveaway to an MGM resort.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
All right, Tim, we are joined right now by one
of my favorite people. I consider him a friend. Known
him since twenty twelve, when he emerged as one of
the best closers in Major League Baseball. He had three
hundred and fifty saves with the Dodgers. No other Dodger
pitcher has saved more games in their career than ken
(28:28):
Lee Jansen. He now has four hundred and sixty two
saves in his what should be a Hall of Fame career.
That is the one and only California Love himself closer
for the Angels, kenn Lee Jansen joining us on a
five to seventy LA Sports ken Lee, thanks a lot
(28:49):
for doing this before you head to the ballpark.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
Oh, thank you, thank thanks for having me say always
great talking to you man.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Ah right, I was thinking about coming to the Angels
game today and doing Dodger talk from the big A
just to see you.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
Oh that's awesome, that's awesome. You should have you should have.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
You know, hey, Kenley, nobody has saved more Kershaw wins
than you. Let's start right there. Where were you? Where
were you watching Kershaw get his three thousand strikeout? And
what did you think about all that?
Speaker 6 (29:22):
Man? I think, first of all, I think I was
in Toronto. I think, if I'm not mistaken, in Toronto
or Atlanta. But man, it was awesome watching that man,
you know, knowing who hard he worked. You know, I
was the first one to Kershaw in his professional career,
you know, in Gulf Coast League in verbe Beach, you know,
(29:44):
way back then in six and man, to see him,
saw him get three thousand strikeouts, you know, that's that's
that's unbelievable. So I'm happy for him, you know, and
you know what, unbelievable Hall of Fam career and probably
(30:06):
one of the best shirt probably going to go down
in Dodger history, you know, so that ever wear that uniform?
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Kenlee.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I know everybody tries to attach pictures to catchers, but
to me, because he's had so many different catchers, you
guys are linked forever. I mean, because, like you mentioned
Vero Beach, you guys were the last two Dodgers to
ever train at Dodger Town. In Vero Beach. You saved
more of his wins than anybody else. Do you feel
(30:34):
like you have that connection to him?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (30:37):
I always have connections, man, you know, like always, you know,
when you talk about courses, talk about the Dodgers man,
and you know, that's how he become now, and you know,
it's awesome to just be his teammate. You know, I'm
glad that I was his teammate for you know what,
twelve to twelve years in my career in the big
(30:58):
leagues and a few of them in the minor league.
So yeah, it always will feel that connected, especially you know,
like you say, you know, I've got joining my saves
I got with him, So it's awesome to hot, you know,
him getting his two thousand strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Kelly.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
How you enjoying your time with the Angels right now?
You talk to people in the offseason, they said that
the young nucleus, that this group has the fire that
the zach NATO's and the Joe Adell's and the logo
and hobbies that have to want to win and turn
that franchise around. Is through the roof. Since joining this
team and being with him here this year, have you
noticed that the young players, this young group, and the
(31:35):
fire they have in this group.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
Yeah, I mean you can see the fire man. You
can see the fire.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You know.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
It's such a great group of guys that we have here.
And you know, me being apart tried, like you said,
we try to turn this organization to a winning organization again.
And you know it shows that we're way better than
what our record shows right now. Like we too games
under we should be at least six over. But you know,
like you live and learn, learning, and I think, you know,
(32:04):
we're gonna do something great down the line here and
you know, turn this organization around.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Do you like the role in the bullpen being that
veteran and kind of mentoring these young pictures that.
Speaker 6 (32:15):
Have Yeah, yeah, I guess that's why I become now,
you know, like a veteran, you know, mentoring, you know, coaching,
you know, like you know, we all we all helping
each other, you know, and you can see the bullpen.
You know, we have a tough start, you know, in
the beginning in April or a month of April. But
you know, you can see how you know, everybody starts
(32:36):
stepping up, you know, and we go into the right direction.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Kelly, can you see yourself finishing your career with the Angels.
I know how much you love being in so cal.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
I mean, you know, at the end of the day, man,
you know, I thought I'm gonna finish my career as
a Dodgers. But you know the thing is you. You
you you see how it becomes a business. So you know,
to me, I don't have I don't have an idea
if I'm going to finish there or not. But to
tell you the truth, I like being there. You know,
(33:07):
I love, you know, all my teammates around me, and
you know I can I can basically, you know, do
what I can do for myself and for my teammates
and help help the team win. But decisions of the
business side, I don't have that part because I learned
that now in this game and this is like what
(33:27):
this is my fourteen that I'm already on. So one
thing I can tell you, I really like being here
and helping these guys and helping the Angels try to
turn this franchise around. So you know, but it's at
the end of the day's up to you know, the
owner and and you know the team president and GM
(33:50):
to make that decision.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Four hundred and sixty two saves and counting on the
way to five hundred and on the way to cooper'stown.
Ken Lee Janssen is our guest. Kenley, you were the king.
You were the guy that wouldn't just get three outs.
You would go four outs in the postseason, six outs,
nine outs sometimes. Do you still got the four outs
(34:13):
saving you? Kenley?
Speaker 6 (34:14):
Yeah, I still got it. I think if I'm not
a take, I think I got one this year.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (34:21):
So yeah, still yeah against the Dodgers, I think I
guess Dodgers. Yeah yeah, that's all talk about it. Yeah
see yeah. So it's still in me, man, It's still
in me, you know, and I'm having fun. I loving
this game, and you know, like I'm doing it for
my family and grow myself. You know, there's a game
that growing up watching it, you know, we go. It
(34:43):
just reminds me when I was six years old, seven
years old, play in the backyard with the family, and
here I am, at age thirty seven, still doing what
I love doing, be in the backyard and and play
at the high highest level.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
You know.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
So I love this game. Man, I'm not taking it
for granted. And you know we're gonna continue to you know,
good great do great things.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Ron Washington out for the year on medical leave. Ray
Montgomery is taking over on the bench there. What kind
of manager is he?
Speaker 2 (35:13):
He's great?
Speaker 6 (35:14):
Man, Ray is great. It's awesome. You know, go go
the bench. Coach is awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
You know.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
So you know, the staff is a such a great
staff that we have here. And like I said, man,
these kids, like we we all you know, want to
like you know, get better and learn every day and
and help bring this franchise around. And you know, the
group of guys, the group of staff that we have,
(35:40):
you know, it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Ray.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
Ray is doing a great job. Is wash has laugh
on the medical you know hopefully that you know he
gets healthy soon he feels better. But you know Ray
is doing a great job taking over and keeping keeping
us in the race.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
All right. I got two questions before we let you go,
Kenley Scott, get to the big A here soon. Number One,
I stayed back and didn't go to Milwaukee, but back
in twenty twenty two, I don't really remember you when
I broke my wrists and ribs. I remember Cody getting
me really freaked out. I was all a blurb. But
where were you when I broke my ribs down the slide?
Speaker 6 (36:19):
I was dying laughing in Atlanta, that's right. I'm like,
what is Besse doing? Man?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
You know?
Speaker 6 (36:27):
So then when I found out that it was serious,
you know, then I'll feel bad. Man, I feel bad, so,
you know. But you know, in the beginning, and I
got my good five minutes of left. But then now
you break your ribs, you know, I'm like, dang, you know,
God forgive me for this. So you know, I set
my prayers for you for you to recover quick.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
I remember that's right, you facetimey from your locker at
the Truest Park.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
I remember that, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
So okay, I have one request for you too. Before
the season's over. You're posting on Instagram walking into the
big A. Can you do me a favor and one
day walk in with a shack jersey to a game?
Speaker 6 (37:08):
Shack jersey?
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yes, wow, I want you to walk into Angels Stadium
with a Lakers shack jersey.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
Oh you want a thirty four Lakers shack not pretty
two manchic?
Speaker 3 (37:17):
No, No, I want thirty four Lakers walking in and
everybody taking a picture of you.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
All right, all right, I will do it. Okay, Now
which car? You don't mind? Which color?
Speaker 3 (37:27):
I don't care?
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Home?
Speaker 3 (37:29):
All right, road, I don't care which one. And if
you need one, I'll send you one.
Speaker 6 (37:33):
No, I'll get one. I get one. I might haven't
signed it for me first, and then then I wear it.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Okay, I love it. Hey, Kenley, thanks a lot for
doing this up. No matter what uniform you wear, you
will always have a special place in my heart. And certainly,
one day when you're in Cooperstown, I will make the trip.
I've never been to the Hall of Fame before, but
when you're there, I will be there.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
I appreciate that, man, definitely appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
We love you.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
We love you, Kenley.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
We'll talk to you soon. All right, keep going there,
he goes Kenley Jansen. Now with the Angels. We're in
the throwbacks last night, the California Angel jerseys.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Last night I wanted to ask him about those because
those are the best looking Angel uniforms.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Yeah, ever, walk off walk by Noah shan Well last
night for an Angel's win against the Rangers.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Do you think he gets into coaching afterwards?
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Kenley?
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Yeah, he once he's done, he's done from baseball.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
He might go to Kirasau or he might just stay
on the hill with Petros. But he has a lot
to offer, he really does.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
When I asked him, how do you like these young
guys in the bullpen, he kind of lit up there.
He liked these young guys. He gets the mentor.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
He's playing music. He's not gonna go on tour. He's
gonna be a dog. He's gonna be a Dodger pitching
instructor one day.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
He is David Vasse, our Dodger insider, the best of
the best. I'm Tim Kates and for Petros and Money

will join us talk some Lakers. We'll get into some

Speaker 3 (40:45):
All right, the Dodger lineup is out against one of
the best young, heart throwing rioties in Major League Baseball,
Jacob Missowski, who is pitching for the Brewers tonight. Misslerowski,
by the way, if you don't know a lot about him,
he touches one hundred with his fastball and out pitched
Paul Skens in Milwaukee last week. So you know, as
(41:06):
Tim Kate said earlier in the hour, the Dodgers look rudderless. Yeah,
they're rudderless because they don't have Max Muncy, they don't
have Taoscar Hernandez, they don't have keyk Hernandez. So yeah,
you're gonna look rudderless.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
Well, the runner's kind of going in one direction right now,
with the top heavy lineup of Otani, Betts, and Freeman
in there every day playing through injuries. We get that,
throwing through the slumps, understand that, but it's sort of
going in a circle because after Freddie Freeman, Andy pot
has has cooled off a little bit and Dave the
lineup is out for today.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
I just said it.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
It it is, uh, well, it is top heavy and
it is glaring.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Oh but how hurt the Dodgers right now? Oh they're
hurt now right. They're not just looking for a senior itis.
They're not just mailing it in as you were suggesting
to start the show. Now you see it, now, you
see it on social media. Now all of us say
it all of a sudden. Carpenteria Kates now all of
a sudden sees it and is like, maybe I was wrong,
(42:04):
senior It is hmm, maybe not.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
There is a little bit too it.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
No, there's not.
Speaker 4 (42:09):
Fifth. I sung kim batting six, Yeah, rushing batting, James
Alt uh.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
Uh huh.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
And you're a guy, Miguel Ross Night, Yeah, yeah, Now
silly murderers.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
Row five, thank you. That's my point. This is not
the Dodgers that we have seen for the majority of
the season. And when you have Andy Pa has hitting
cleanup for you, when you have Confordo Kim rushing Outman
and Rojas in the same lineup, the burden has to
fall on Otani, Betson Freeman. I got news for you.
(42:44):
If those three guys don't hit, the Dodgers are not
getting back to the World Series. I just need two
out of the three to be hitting at the same time,
which the Dodgers got for the most part of last year.
And in fact, they got all three hitting at the
same time at the right time in October. So you
(43:04):
could talk about all these other pieces all you want,
But if Otani, Betts, and Freeman don't hit, the Dodgers
are going nowhere. And if Mookie Betts doesn't start hitting
the second half of the season, it's time to have
the conversation about whether or not he should be hitting
second in the Dodger lineup.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
What about show hey Otani in the leadoff spot. Thirty
home runs. It's great, he's got the power. He can
hit home runs as far as anybody in baseball, but
quite frankly, you know, two for four yesterday and a
nine to one loss. All right, but hitless in the
day before one hit in the Astros series. The offense
has come down a little bit since he started pitching.
(43:42):
Is there a correlation or are people making too much
into that that all of a sudden because he starts
pitching out albeit an inning or two, the offense has
gone down.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
No, it is legitimate, and you have to ask questions
about whether or not him getting reacclimated to pitching and
hitting leadoff is connect in some ways and shapes. But
who are you gonna have lead off? There's no tom
Yedman tonight, There's no Taoscar Hernandez. There's no Max Muncy
(44:10):
months u ta Oscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman now have
missed there What a third straight game in the starting lineup.
I mean, Tommy Edmond was supposed to be part of
the third base equation and he's got some a right
small pinky toe issue now that's really keeping him out?
Is there something more? I mean, a small pinky toe
(44:31):
shouldn't keep you out for three games.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
It shouldn't, but maybe at this time of the year,
you just played.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Oh, mister big picture now.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
Well, I look at all the pictures. Yeh right, I
got my glasses eyes here, near sighted and far sighted. Ah,
you see, I'm looking at next week as well. All
you see is that Cadillac margariteat Don Kuco's. And you're like, what,
why are the Dodgers so bad? Well, they don't have Edmund,
they don't have ta Oscar, they don't got Munsey, and
they don't have Mookie Bets. Really, but they still have
(45:00):
two other MVPs. When then they're not performing. You know,
you got one through nine, Yes, not performing, and that's
led to four straight losses.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
I would argue, out of this lineup, the guys that
are hitting the best right now are Pa has in
Conforto and Dalton Rushing drove in the only Dodger run
on Sunday. That's right there. You go. See, I'm here
to remind you about what reality is instead of you
daydreaming down Magnolia Boulevard and Burbank on your way to
the Honeydoo list.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
It's Burbank Sports Cards as where I go, Yeah, exactly,
and Hollywood Way.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
You're so emotional. I'm the one that's usually the emotional one.
But I don't know, like, maybe you need to check
in with me every day. I could be your life coach.
I could be your life coach to let you know
what is reality and what is perception.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
I get real. I think your wife wants me to
check in with you every day. Now, if you want
to check in, that's fine. Petrol's calls every day at
nine o'clock in the morning. How's your sister in law doing.
She's doing good. Thanks for asking. Please give her my
regard eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy.
He is David Vatsay, I am Tim Kates. We're in
for Petro some money. I know Petros is living listen
right now, of course he is talk about rabbit years.
(46:10):
Is he at that boot Lake Sandwich place again? I mean,
how many times we get it? You like their sandwiches.
I think he's on the beach somewhere down in San Diego.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
I'm sure you'll find a way to post something about
that Bootleg sandwich place.
Speaker 4 (46:24):
One hour down. Coming up, David, We're gonna turn the
table a little bit, get into a little NBA talk.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
