Speaker 1 (00:00):
How's the stream stream commencing broadcasting on AM five to
seventy LA Sports and streaming on the iHeartRadio while it's.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
The longest running afternoon sports show in the city.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
No congratulations necessary. All traces of Fred Rogan have been removed.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
This is petros in Money, Thank You, Thank You, hosted
by Petros papadae.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Gas terrible person, he's the worst and Matt money Smith.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
The pipes, the pipes, the pipe. Don't miss an episode.
We're with you.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, follow the petros In Money Show. Wherever you get
your podcasts now Here's Petrose Papadaecus and Matt money Smith.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
That's okay, it's a night game.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I mean you, Petros and Money five to seventy LA
Sports live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app a four hour
show today making our way again the Clipper of Basketball.
We did last night three to six thirty. They lost
to the Heat. They will tip it off at eight
pm against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
You will.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I have no idea where the game is being broadcast.
There are many an NBA partner now NBC, Peacock, ESPN,
ESPN plus Amazon.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Problem really bastardized the greatness of the local broadcast, and
that is one thing that baseball does not do. And
that's why local market baseball outperforms local market NBA in
the ratings, because you really get to know your local broadcasters,
like chick Hern you know, when when you watch baseball
(01:39):
here in town, and the Dodgers have that great TV
deal with Spectrum, they take so many of the national
the national people take so many twenties.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think they took twenty six Laker games this year,
which is twenty six where Billy Mack is probably not doing.
Maybe he'll be like a third of them.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
And so they water you down or they push you
all the way out, and every once in a while
it's like, yeah, this Dodger game is the Fox the
Fox game, or this Dodger game is the Apple game,
and that happens every one or Amazon.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
To remind you, all of them are right here on
a five seventy Sports every single month, every single one.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
But the NBA takes a big bite out of their
local market broadcasts, and I don't think it's cool. It's
another thing I don't like about the NBA.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I know this is a very I'm not breaking news
here or making a stand or dying on an island.
It's become very popular online, but it's it's it is
a fact. It's a pain in the ass to watch
sports in twenty twenty five to flip around like, hey,
I'm watching the Dodger game and I'm watching football. I
get my Dodger games in the MLB app because the
service I have doesn't have spectrum available, so I pay
(02:49):
for it through the MLB. So I want to flip
all the way over to you into Hulu to get
my football game. And then if I want this other
football game, I got to go to ESPN Plus, which
is an available on there. Everything was on some kind
of different streaming set and it takes thirty seconds to
you know, like whereas before get over to Amazon Amazon
Prime exactly, you got to exit and get into Amazon.
(03:11):
Like it really sucks it absolutely. That's Can we get
one of you brilliant minds from Caltech? Can you devise
an app or an operating platform that.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Will elect a universal remote.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
A universal remote for all the apps where where it
will launch it immediately. Somehow we have some sort of
faster processor that makes it act time wise as a
channel change instead of back button Amazon Prime back to
the home. I draw the peacock at Peacock. Peacock just
came to me for my renewal. I draw the double
(03:43):
middle fingers. You know how quickly they dropped the price
because I got it last year on a promo deal
for twelve bucks for the year. So I was like, Okay,
I'll give you twelve bucks for a year of Peacock
to watch some Olympics or whatever it was. And it's
up in December and it's like one hundred.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
And pan American games.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
You're a big you know that, And it was like
one hundred and sixty bucks or something secure out of
your mind. So I just went to hit cancel so
I don't forget because it's up on December first, And
as soon as I hit cancel, it said one time
offer thirty nine to ninety nine for the year. And
I'm like, Jesus, I mean, there's really people that are
going to give you one hundred and sixty bucks without
(04:19):
hitting cancel, just to see what happens next. It's unfathomable
where we've ended up in the world of just trying
to consume sports on television to have if I want
to watch NBA games, I need Peacock, Amazon Prime, Espn,
which is now available on a standalone. By missing it
and the Spectrum, I've got to pay for Spectrum independently
(04:41):
as well for the local Laker games, and then I
got to pay for FanDuel to watch the Clipper games.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
That's six FanDuel.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Spectrum for Lakers, Clippers, and then to watch them on
national platforms, Amazon Prime, Peacock and Espn. Where do you
get your Fox available on my Hulu?
Speaker 3 (05:01):
There you go?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, what about the day after Thanksgiving? A Netflix game mat?
There you go? That's well, that's uh is that that's basketball?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Football?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Well, no, I was talking basketball, just basketball alone. You know,
football is a national products, so they just they've always
broadcast nationally.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
But you're stuck on Amazon. You're stuck on Netflix.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Exactly, Amazon, Netflix, Espn app got to do that as well. Yeah,
every sport, it's a real bitch, It really is. It's
a real bitch. Paramount plus. Got about paramount Plus. They'll
boot a couple of those over there when they're supposed
to be on CBLS. They'll flip you a little paramount Plus.
From time to time, we do have a big announcement.
(05:41):
Matt beyond complaining. Sorry, no, it's all right. I think
it's that it's an important thing that needs to be said.
We've got smart people that listen to the show, much
smarter than us come up with a universal app. Well, smart,
you can change these things like channels. Smarter than me.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Maybe. Uh, all right, this is a big announcement because
everybody's been wondering about this. We had to cancel the
one we had planned on Monday because of our schedule,
but we are headed backed out.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Matt Our first DJ's Restaurant and brew House appearance. There
will be six of them a week from yesterday, one
week from yesterday. One of our favorite spots, always a
great crowd. It's a giant, wide open room, ample parking
because it's at.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
The mall, play a room for everybody.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
BJ's Restaurant in brew House in Soritos, right up the
six oh five at South Street. We'll be there from
three until six thirty pm. Not a typical Petros and
Money DJ's remote that typically goes into either Thursday or
Monday Night Football Monday Night Football ESPN app Yeah, so
Thursday a football Amazon Prime Yeah. So I don't know
(06:49):
what they got up with. The BJ's TV, right, but
this will go into Clippers basketball.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
For those of you that usually work a little later,
you have a great opportunity to.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Cut constead a two to five. We're going three to
six thirty awesome, three eight to six thirty soritos DJ's
restauran umbrows. You know, Dave Weeze always takes care of us.
Missus January always takes care of us with prizes. So
we'll have those BJS gift cards and likely a whole
bunch of tickets and jump a.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Great Monday night game by the way at Lambeau Packers Eagles.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Oh yeah, a lot of the TV's up there, so
we'll be watching the first half of that together. And
happy hours starts at three. Normally we have to try
to coax the on site manager in Miss January to
open up that happy hour window an hour your next results.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
I believe that she did it once and then was
reprimanded and a modish.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, we got her in a little bit of.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Trouble saying you think you can you think you can
manipulate BJ's Happy hour. Who the hell do you think
you are?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Do you work in the building right off the four
h five and Boulevard. No you don't. I love the
BJ's headquarters is right there next to Old World. She
doesn't work there, No, she's in the field man. But
doesn't she get to like go there from time to time?
I would hope, so, I would hope she gets to
use that high end corporate caffee machine, a milk frother.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Have you been into the BJ, Like, it's not like
we get to go there and sign our big deal
every year before we go.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I wish we did. I just see it anytime I'm
driving south on that four or five, I see that
logo on that like story building.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
It's pretty pretty prevalent. Yeah, I'm just saying, likes, have
any of us ever been in there? How many floors
of the building does the BJS It's.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
A good question. A lot of times, if you were
most of it, they'll let you put the signage outside,
or you pay extra for the signage. I remember when
we used to have signage outside this building. Warner Brothers
had signage, like when you went down the one thirty four,
you see an iHeart logo, a Warner Brothers, a Morton's logo.
I mean it had everything.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
It's out front.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, it's out front, but they used to have the
signage off the one thirty four.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Point B. I wish. I mean, has anybody been in
that building? I'd love to know.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Maybe our man can.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
But that's not where we're going.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
No, we'll be at the BJ's Restaurant, brewuse and so
Rito's happy hour starts at three. Not every single from
the Pat Nixon Berth Home. Well, you and not I
have not been in statue. Have you been to the
Berth Home.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Well, the Berth Home is built.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Oh, it's where the statue.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
It's where the statue is. It's now like a park
and Senior Citizen center. But the bricks from the chimney
make up the pedestal for the Pat Nixon statue.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
You know, we should have the old house. We should
do like a Nixon tour. Right, we should get a
BJ's in your Belinda by the Nixon Library. We should
get a BJ's down in San Clementy by his beach house.
That was right down there. I don't think it was
technically Sant Clementy. It's right by a spot, it's right
by trestles, cottons and all that. But we could do
(09:46):
the the Nixon tour. So Ritos or Belinda. The burger
stop is gone where Nixon used to eat in Sant Clementy.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
It's unfortunate, but Sant Clementi is still very Nixonian in
its way.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Do they have a pa chase in San Clementy?
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I doubt it. Every road into San Clementy leads out
of San Clementy one town, one team. They don't really
want you there. Beat it zeroest you get on Peko,
which is the the not the one up here, the
one down in San Clementy, And it's like the main
street of San Clementy and most beach towns. Right you
get off on the main street, you go right down
(10:25):
to the pier, right or wherever you know, it takes
you down. Sant Clementy's main street takes you directly to
data Point and if you want to go to if
you want to go to the pier, it's like Plinko.
It's like a maze. It's one town, one team. They
don't want you there, but we want you at Soritos,
the Pat Nixon Library or excuse me, statue?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Are you going to go this year?
Speaker 3 (10:49):
The beautiful Well. I'll always stop.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
By eleven A lot of times listeners may want may
want to meet you there before mix and meet up, yeah,
like or the library meet of the Titanium Library meet up. Yeah,
I'd rather meet it Pat Nixon. But I think i'll
I think I'm gonna go. I mean we have a
little more time. Yeah, because the show starts at three,
So I think I will go see Pat Nixon.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
I make an announcement a.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Nice two fifteen Pat Nixon stop.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Yeah, like in the two o'clock hour, I'm.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Gonna go to the Guitar center in the mall there
by b Jase before Well, that's gonna water down my event.
I'm gonna rip out some black dog.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
You know, you get a water down my event.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
All right, I'll take it past this time. I'll see
I'll save my led Zeppelin guitar riffs for a later appearance.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Gosh, I didn't know which one to go to. I
just I didn't know what to do. So joining us today,
we have three guests for our four hour show. We've
got Tom to LESCo. In our first hour. We've got
our Hoops Talk podcaster and YouTuber and colleague here at
M five seventy Alan Sleewah, who's gonna join us in
(11:58):
our second hour, and we're going to have John Paul
Morosi in our third hour to get into the Hot
Stove triple Guest day and some of what we remember
kind of a hot Stove day to day of sorts.
In the NFL, it was trade deadline day. So that's
why we got to Lesk Klesco will join us in
the next segment. A couple of big names moving around.
Raiders traded Jacoby Meyers, so he is out, and the
(12:22):
Chargers traded for a tackle, so he'll weigh in on that.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
They're saying it's one of the top three trade deadline
days of all time as far as the metal.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
So the NFL trade deadline is more active than it
used to be.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, they moved it back two weeks, I believe. So
teams like the Jets that have one win, the Raiders
that have two wins recognize, okay, let's get some draft
picks and just start building for next year. And there
are a lot more willing to move players I believe
it used to be.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
So they moved They moved it bad.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
They moved it back to week nine from week six.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Which is why it's more prevalent. Yeah, so you got
because week six you figure you still might have a chance.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Yeah, you know, not that bad. All right, we're running.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
You don't want to show your fan base that you're selling.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
With eleven games left. Now with eight games left, Eh,
we're we're one and eight. What do you want from us?
We're two and seven. It's over and we can develop
young people. Yeah, I mean you got your Like the Raiders,
Jacoby Meer's gonna be free agent, So what's the point
of keeping him around. He's probably not going to be
back next year. I might as well get a pick
for him, and the Jets amassed. I think three first
(13:22):
round picks today for Quinn Williams and Sauce Gardner in
a couple seconds. So you know, there's that. I guess
it goes to show you can't have one of the
best defenses in the NFL not have a quarterback and
win football games. Like if you don't if you don't
have a capable quarterback, even if you hold the Broncos
to thirteen points justin Fields gets sacked nine times and
(13:44):
only completes a nine pass, you can't win that football game.
So you might as well just punt. Try to figure
out how you can find a quarterback. Interesting, Well that's
what we got going on on a five seventy LA sparts.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
What's this?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
I just quickly a shout out some of our friendlies
partners here.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
I hear this beersic. It feels like you're picking up
another Japanese sponsor.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Well, I'd like to shout out our friends at Yoshanoya. Well,
did they took care of us for lunch today?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Who's us? Well?
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Those are the building here, I mean we're on Afternu
drive where your Annie.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Ronnie had some? Okay, I think Kevin had some. They
brought it into the folks here at seven Ala Sports of.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Dodgers, the Carl's Junior Fake Burger Day or did they
break food people wanted to eat?
Speaker 4 (14:27):
This is stuff that people wanted to eat. Wrap up
the season in honor of a MVP. What did they
bring Yoshanoba Yamamoto. They brought us the great combo bulls,
Kudan beef karaokee chicken bowls, each with customized balls with
beef broth cups, ginger packets, kashimi packets, you packets, saracha sauce,
(14:50):
rice vegetables, soy sauce.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
How about the shrimp.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Tim, I'm not a shrimp guy, but I know you are.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Oh wow, that shrimp was incredible, very good.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
So shout out to Yoshanoya. We're bringing in the combo
bowls today. Brought Ronnie and shrimp. What did you have, Kates?
Speaker 4 (15:03):
I had a combo beef kariaki bowl with some rice
and some broccoli and vegetables steam steam?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Vegetables?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Were that a little bit of that as well? Did
you notice Matt the yosh I thought you might.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I did, And as I arrived, what what?
Speaker 3 (15:17):
What game to your mind? Well?
Speaker 2 (15:18):
I wondered how long it had been sitting there, because
you know, as afternoon drive guys, we we get the
we get the short shrift on these things. We really do.
We're in between lunch and dinner. That's the problem.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
It's almost universally you that brings up how long this
spit out?
Speaker 2 (15:32):
I mean it's room temperature, Yoshanoi, because typically for lunch.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And even if you're not eating it and someone.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Else is, I'm gonna judge you for eating it.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Hey, what are you doing there?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
What are you doing?
Speaker 3 (15:41):
You sitting there? But you got it hot off the
press's gates.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
It was fresh. They delivered it hot.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
The beef was fantastic, the cub on beef, the taiyaki
chicken was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Are you already endorsing Yoshinoia. I've always liked Yoshan Nooi
back when they were in Dodger State. I adn't asked that,
I am, that's already been Have you already been contracted
to endorse Yoshanoia not yet? This kind of Is this
going to supplant your scam income?
Speaker 4 (16:07):
The foundation is gone? The foundation is being laid that
like a bet of rice in a bowl.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
There you go, it's being laid right, that's got a foundation.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
You gotta put the steam vegetables in on top. Sure,
you gotta put the Gudan beef and the karaokee chicken,
all those sex packets, the beef broth cup, which is fantastic.
By the way, it's it's I'm a big Sarachter sauce guy.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
So who else who else was eating it? It was you,
Ronnie Kevin. Did anybody from KFI, anybody from FM come
down get in on it? This was an am only thing.
It was KFI and I seventy sport.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I did see the Duke of Sports dipping his shrimp
inside that delicious sauce. That was really good.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Thanks to Bill Detton too for walking in letting us
know that the food was ready to go. Oh what
time running? Oh a little while ago. Come on, give
me a number like twelve thirty, twelve forty five?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Oh okay, probably closer to one.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Well for you is one. I would even closer to
twelve thirty. I do recall the Wendy's dropping off the
French toast.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Steaks at like six am, and then I.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Remember Kate's consuming said French toast sticks of what time?
Kates eleven twelve, one, two, three four five, and then
saying sticks are amazing. I gotta do is nuke them up, man,
They're fresh. Throw them right back to that microps are amazing.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Play your cards right. Maybe they're friends at Yoshan Oil.
Bring us a little late out of mine. That's a
little jealous. It smelled pretty good, man. I sure could
go some more of that chicken. That chicken is so good.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
That sauce in kariaki, never mind the shrimp, Oh, the
shrimp's terrific.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
How many Asian sponsors is this now? Tim Oh?
Speaker 2 (17:41):
I don't know, Petros, it's hard to keep track of
all of them.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Be four, Like, it is amazing to me that you've
become like the go to guy for I don't know
if YOSHINOI is a Japanese company, but there's certainly a
lot that have turned Like Asahi the rep was like
a Latino guy. Yeah, and they hired.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Put a buffer zone between them and MODELO.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
That got ugly.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah, it did get ugly. Well, we didn't know he
was gonna be Latino. So they was like, hey, they
got they were friends with her. But so you got Asai,
you had Itto and Oyocha. That's right.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Well they went national, they left us, but he had.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
It, had it? Oh they ditched your kates?
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Yeah, they went more.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, all right, uh.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Hakasan the US faces stepping stone?
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Did you do yakul I did do yakl yesterday? I see?
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
So that's three, Yes, that's actually four. And I'm working
on a Zekisaki which is for the twenty twenty six seasons.
So we had a lot of irons in the fire.
What was our swords and what was our sushi?
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Zen she she sushi?
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Come on, let's go gardenas Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
I've actually decided this winter, you believe it or not,
Sad He's actually going to Japan for eight days.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Look at that? Are you going with her?
Speaker 4 (18:50):
I would love to, but I don't get any time
off around here, so you do get time. I actually
asked to see if I can go, but they said
there's nobody to fill in for the Petro some money show.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
So what about Colin Yee can't go?
Speaker 2 (19:00):
What about Kevin Figures and Adam Ouslin. They're busy, you know,
a Clipper season. So so you know it is. So
Sady's going to send me pictures from Tokyo and almost
going with her. H it's a school trip. Okay, some chaperones,
but uh yeah, I'm not going. I would have love
to have gone, but I'm not going.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
I thought she went to Village Christians. She went goes
to Chaparral.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
She does go to Village Christians. A fancy trip, I said, chaperone, Oh, chaparone, chapone? Wow?
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Thought you liked that? All right? You know Kate's has
a long history with a lot of the local Well,
well she's a she smells hard. A lot of these Kates. Uh,
Kate's does know a lot about the local private schools.
And remember when his daughter's team lost to Marlborough in
lacrosse and those girls were smoking so much. Like the
(19:50):
fact that they beat you guys on lacrosse, which you
know does have a lot of cardio vascular in it,
and they are smoking so hard, you know, kind of
reminds you that Len Dawson and all those as for
smoking and alf time stuff in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
That's a good it's a good way to recruit, you know. Yeah,
you go to Village Frisian, you can do an eight
day trip to Japan. You come to Marlborough, Flavor Country,
Flavor Country, got a cart in a week, lights Menthols
hundreds Ultra to where the flavor is.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
I mean when it's hot, they do water breaks. But
I thought it was weird, dur in the middle of
the cross end, like all right, smoke breaks.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Smoke, smoke, o smoke.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
It's time for Tom to LESCo in the next segment,
speaking of the NFL and Lenny Dawson. He was not
traded today, but some people were. And we will discuss
it with our old friend Tom Tolesco, former GM of
the Chargers and the Raiders. We still have Alan Sliwa,
the Whites and John Paul Morosi Italian American.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Maybe Kates can endorse Ruy Hachamura.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Oh good, idea, my favorite laker. Actually, you know what,
he's probably in competition with Kate's. Oh, Japanese sponsorship. That's
how big time Kates is getting.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
We can do it together. Hey, it's Tim Kates and
what's your name?
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Ruey.
Speaker 2 (21:06):

But we are making a preemptive strike to talk to
our friend Tom Telescot.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Have anything left to talk about longtime.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Front office man Charter GM Raider GM. He's helping out
with the Corona del Mar football team. They have Round
one of the layoffs against the one seed the Myrietta
Valley Nighthawks CDM Corona Del Mar c Kings versus Nighthawks
on Friday night. So joining us right now on your
Toyota Dealers Celebrity hotline is the very measure the very
(22:49):
revered friend of the show, Tom Telesco on Petrosen Money.
What's groging, Tom?
Speaker 5 (22:54):
How are you hey, guys?
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Good afternoon, Good afternoon to you. Oh Tom, tell us
a little bit about this later trade deadline. It seems
to have changed a lot of things for NFL teams.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Yeah, it really has. And in twenty twelve it was
Week six with the trade deadline, and then they move
it to week eight, and then about i'd say two
or three years ago, I moved to where it is
now right after week nine going into week ten. And
that just gives teams more opportunity to see exactly where
they are in the season, whether they're on their way
(23:28):
up or on their way down, and make a decision
to make a move or not. And I think that's
just brought more activity. As you saw today today the
amount of trades, they were about the same as last
year and about the same as the last couple of years.
But it's really obviously there's that quick, fixed mentality for
a lot of these trades because a lot of them
are one year rentals. But I think right now, while
(23:51):
you're seeing there's a lot of teams that can accumulate
draft picks via other trades or draft day trades or
the compensory pick system. It gives them more ammunition on it.
They like this to make a move. But the big
thing today was what the Jets did. Those are not
typical trade deadline type trades, but just a lot of
activity today.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Yeah, you mentioned the Jets to two former top five picks.
I mean players that are considered the best at their positions.
D line, corner. Why is it that some positions are
traded and others aren't. What is it about defensive line?
It seems like every year you get a couple pass
rushers that are going to move or interior linemen. Feels
like running backs get traded, whide receivers get traded. What
(24:30):
is it about that position? And like old lineman almost
never move at the trade deadline? Is there something to
certain positions moving and others not.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Yeah, a big part of the supply and demand, I
mean offensive line wise. If you have a tackle on
your team, even if he's your third tackle or depth tackle,
you don't want to trade them. They're so hard to find.
That's why with the Chargers they had offensive line needs
at the trade deadline. It's so hard to find anybody
that will trade you a tackle who can play, and
they got lucky enough to make trade for Trevor Penning.
(25:01):
But there just isn't a lot out there. So you
don't see a lot of trades for referensive linemen. But
at positions where there's a little bit more bigger pool
running back, safeties a lot of times usually outside corner
is never available with the trade deadline. Usually nickel corners
are just because there aren't a lot outside corners. Obviously
the Sauce Gardner thing is an anomaly. But you see
(25:22):
a lot of pass rushers at the trade deadline, and
usually they're more towards the end of their career. They
come in for one year rental, give a little bit
extra pass rush down the stretch, but it all comes
down to supply and demand.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
How Tom, just speaking to the Chargers, you know, for
a while there they were on tackle number six and seven.
Bobby Hard who hadn't started games since twenty twenty one,
got a few starts out there. You drafted justin Herbert.
How do they overcome not not having you know, Overshaan
Slater and now Joe Walt and trying to you know,
(25:52):
build on what they did last year winning eleven games.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Well, it's going to be extremely difficult and it's going
to be a challenge. But you know, there's different ways
to look at it. I mean number one is, you know,
where else can we bring a player in? And they
went out and trade it for Trevor Penning, who's you know,
he's you know, six six six seven three hundred and
fifteen pounds, really tough, physical, strong mentality. Didn't fare as
well at tackle with the States that moved him inside
(26:17):
the guard, and we'll see where the Chargers end up
playing him. But what they're gonna have to do a
lot of this, It's gonna have to be scheme based.
You're gonna have to leave the tight ends in a
little bit more to help block. You're gonna have to
keep keep the running backs in the chip. You're gonna
have to move the pocket more. There's a certain things
scheme wise you're gonna have to do right now to
protect justin just because look, when you get to your fifth, sixth,
seventh tackle, I mean, obviously there's gonna be a drop
(26:39):
off in talent and you just can't go and go
get another player at this point in the season. So
there's certainly one that can really play and start. So
Greg Roman's gona have to be creative with the pass protection,
moving the pocket, and probably doing a lot more max
protections to protect the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
He's been running around like crazy, Justin Herbert, we look
like a college quarterback against tennis taking off. How sustainable
is that? Or I guess that's why they went out
and found some mora online.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
Well, yeah, you have to pick your spots, and I
think Justin does a pretty good job of picking the
spots and when he wants to run and when it's
time to slide, or when it's time just you know,
just eat it, just take a sack and go down.
But obviously the hits in the pocket over time, they're
not sustainable. But it's also part of the position, and
he's he's a big, strong, physical player and he's built
(27:30):
to take somebody. Says, all quarterbacks get hit, all at
different rates. But part of that position is having a
durability to handle some of that punishment that comes with it.
And the good thing about Justin is he's smart enough
to know when to go down and when to go
get to extra yards. He thought last week against the Titans,
there are some opportunities that he just went out and
got after it because he had to. And it was
(27:51):
great seeing the bench all get excited when they see
Justin put his shoulder down and try and knock somebody down. Now,
at the GM, you don't like to see that very often,
but I guess people going and he's outstad at it.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
What is it about trying to keep olignement healthy. You
mentioned it, Tom, If you have it, you don't want
to get rid of your third one. A lot of
teams I want to get rid of their fourth one
because guys, these tackles get injured pretty regularly. Is there
a way around that? Is it brace? Wearing braces? Is it? Like,
what is it that you could maybe do to prevent
as many O line injuries as we see year in
(28:22):
and year out.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Yeah. No, At the college level, they can mandate players
where knee braces. At the pro level, it's very difficult
to do, and in the end, like a knee brace,
it's not going to protect you from ACL. It could
protect your help a little bit from MCL injury. But
in the end you have to look at is who's
your filter of who you're bringing in, who you're signing
is free agents, who you're signing after the draft is
fore agents, and who you're drafting, and if teams want to,
(28:48):
you know, draft a player with a long injury history
or chronic issues at college. A lot of times those
same issues come through in the pros. But look, some
of these are just bad luck. Joe Walt has been
very hell healthy through his college career. Rashaun Slater is
very healthy in his college career. So some of these
you just can't there's nothing you can do about. But
as a whole your philosophy, there may be some players
(29:10):
you really like in the draft. We just feel like
there's some durability questions and it'd be better off the
pass because availability is the most important thing you can have,
certainly on the offensive line, because they're just too and
far between of having enough to go into the season with.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
The great Tom to LESCo. You can hear him on
Serious Exam NFL Radio tonight at five o'clock going over
all this trade stuff and don't forget the big playoff
game with Myriatta Valley versus CDM Playoffs this week first round.
The Raiders trade Jacoby Myers to the Jaguars. They're in
a tough spot. They didn't trade Max Crosby, which could
(29:47):
have got them a load of picks. Where are they.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Well, they're kind of stuck in between a rebuild and
trying to still get after it this year. I didn't
see any possible way they would trade Max Crosby. And
then you know, after you actually tell Max Crosby you're
not going to trade him. Obviously you're not going to
do it. I saw some rumors today because I have
to follow all this if you're ready for the show
tonight about Hey, maybe some teams are talking the Raiders
about Max Crosby and it sai there's about one hundred
percent chance that's not going to happen. But I can
(30:15):
see the Jacoby Buyers one coming and they got a
great I mean, to get a fourth and the sixth
round pick back for Jacoby Buyers and Myers is it.
You know, he's in the last year of his contract,
so it's a you know, nine to ten game rental
for Jacksonville. It's a pretty good return. And you know,
Jacoby just Jacoby is a great person. He's a professional.
(30:35):
But you could sense, like you know, these trade you know,
he didn't want to be there. He wanted to get moved.
And players just don't play as well or not as
well invested when they don't want to be somewhere. I
think that's probably why the Raiders and the end, they
probably didn't want to trade him. But in the end,
you know, probably was just best for them, best for
the team, and they got a great return back with
the four and six.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Moving forward, the Rams added some talent Roger McCreary a
little bit earlier in the week and outside corner or
a corner Tom when you see like I know we
saw with Tom Brady, so we shouldn't be surprised by
any of it. Aaron Rodgers's playing at a high level.
But I mean you could probably make a case that
Matthew Stafford might be like an odds on favorite to
win the MVP with how he's playing right now. What
(31:15):
is it about these guys that they're able to play
later in their careers. You had Philip Rivers late in
his career. Is it protection and how the league is
protecting these guys or what are you seeing from from
Stafford that that has the Rams as a Super Bowl favorite?
Speaker 5 (31:30):
Well, it's got to be genetics for some of these guys.
I mean, it's just amazing, you know, Philip Rivers, Tom Brady, Stafford,
even Peyton Manning played late late into his career. Stafford's
been absolutely amazing and it's just a great combination with
him and McVeigh. Remember this summer we're talking about his
back injury. You know there's a chance he might not
even play this year. You know now that I'm part
(31:51):
of the media, I overreacted too. You know, we're talking
about all what's their Plan B, what's their Plan B
and or Plan C, And obviously they haven't needed either
of them. He's been standing, gets the ball out quick.
He's so decisive with it, and I think the older
you get at a quarterback, you make quicker, smaller decisions
because you've seen everything, and that's you know, a lot
of the positions is just processing, and the quicker the
ball comes out unless you get hit. And I want
(32:14):
to be honest with the Rams offensive line, they haven't
passed protected that well this year. But Matthew gets the
ball out so quickly. They move the pocket, they'll they'll
they'll leave the backs in the chip when they have to.
And he's playing at such a high level and he
has plenty of weapons to throw to. So to see
him playing the way he is at this state of
his career is it's just quite amazing.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
What kind of game do we expect on Friday night?
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Tom Oh, It's going to be a battle. I mean,
they're the number one seed in the division u CDM.
When we went nine and one and he got seated.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
In Division two got bumped up.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
Yeah, here's my one question though. So CEM goes nine
and one seated in Division two. Kevin Hedigg is the
head coach, he's outstanding. We can't get one nomination for
Coach of the week from Chargers up from the LA Charges.
You can't get one coach of the week nomination from
the Challenge. What do we have to do to get
Kevin headicks some notoriety around.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
I don't know. I haven't worked on that show in
three years. I mean, I'll call Jonas, but yeah, they're
ignoring CDM. They not okay, you know, I mean, I
don't know if they have the I don't know if
they have the high school football cachet that we used
to have.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
I'm not saying most definitely do not.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
They do not.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
They most definitely do not. I'm sorry, Well, he gets
our nomination here on the PetroSA. Tell him he's the
coach of the week on the Petros and Money Show.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
There we go, There we go. I'll put in him
a game ball with that on there.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
There's no Bachmeyer's left at Myriada Valley? Are there? I
think you guys are clear?
Speaker 5 (33:43):
No, but they are loaded. They've got a couple of
really good corners, they got a running back. They had
a great year this year and as as CDM has
as well. But it's going to be a huge challenge.
They have an offensive lindu about three ten all the
way across the front. That's gonna be a big challenge
for us.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
What's the what's the feeling when you see you got
kind of bumped up into the Division two and and
that's kind of what your what you're facing, how you're
feeling about that.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Look, you have to look at the positive part of it.
I mean, we had a great year and people think
we're really good, but then you look at your your matchup,
it's like, oh, it's going to be a challenge, but hey,
you take them where they come, like we you know,
we're a huge underdog against San Juan Hills and end
up beating them by you know, twenty five to thirty points.
So you know, who knows anything can happen.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I gotta happen.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Just what I'm getting at is it's it's you know,
you've got these teams and like the tougher conferences that
end up getting thrown down into like Division four. Like
three wins and it's like the Helloween.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
This new system is, but we still got to go play.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
Yeah, I don't. I mean, who really knows the difference
between the fifth seed and the twelfth seed. I mean,
you just don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
I don't even know how it all comes together. I go,
I know this part of the high school rankings and
the computer rankings, but it is what it is. I'm
glad we're in a playoffs, get a chance to play.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
It's a special Dell computer and the CIF offices. It's
about forty years old. Thank you so much, Tom, that's
wonderful stuff. We hope we didn't wreck you for your
show tonight, but have a great show and we'll talk
to you soon. The great Tom Till let's go a
good luck on Friday. Let's go Sea Kings.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Appreciate guys, Thanks thanks for having me on.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Absolutely good luck CDM Murrietta Valley nine in one of
me bump you up.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Well that happened and very I mean CDM is a
lot like palas Verdi's High. In fact, you know, they
both have the same nickname, the Sea Kings, and they're
both right by the water affluent neighborhoods played very good football.
And this happened to PV High a couple of years ago.
They had like their best team ever. Their quarterback who's
still there now, was a true freshman and Arizona's real
(35:46):
hot on him and they went undefeated, got bumped up,
played Mission Viaho in the first round, lost by thirty.
Yeah you know. Then the next year they schedule tough,
lose four games, They lose four games, dropped down, They
get dropped down, win the CIF championship.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
It should be slotted from the start. Just do it
on side.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Every once in a while you get like a one
in ten team that goes to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
So it's like, what you've got teams that like have
I saw I was looking at the brackets that have
three wins, that are like three seeds in the lower divisions,
And if you're in the lower division, like what the hell,
why are we playing this team when they're twice the
size of our school? You end up winning seven or whatever,
you know, not you go nine and one and you
play a three win team from a higher division, you
get throttled. Who's the lady, who's the the CIF commissioner
(36:40):
now it's not our guy, why god anymore?
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Mike west is the new commissioner. Great guy, lovely woman,
great guy.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah, May westome say soldier?
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Should we have him on? Sure?
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Going on?
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Like?
Speaker 2 (36:56):
Why is this the system we have? Helping it? You
like me? Figure this out?
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Bye bye? Buck Bachheimer is only thirteen, so they won't
have to tussle with him till next year. Next year,
it'll be the best of them all. I hear. We'll
be back with Mark Pettersen Money on A five seventy
LA Sports on a ton motto Tuesday. Hello, PMS listener.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Did you know Am five seventy LA Sports has a
wide range of LA sports podcasts.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
There's Rogan and Roddey.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
That one is my favorite, Dodger Talk with David Vasse,
the Dodger Podcast of Record.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Clipper Talk with Ada Moss, follow us all and many more.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Just go to AM five seventy LA Sports on the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
That's yours some money. AM five seventy LA Sports Live
everywhere on the iHeart heard radio app. We got a
full four hour show today. Big thank you to Tom
Telesco joining us In the last segment. It was trade
deadline day, The Raiders moved Jacoby Myers to the Jaguars
for a couple draft picks, fourth and a sixth rounder.
The Chargers move John Taylor for a seventh round pick
(38:08):
from the Jets, and then they acquired Trevor Penning, former
first round pick out of Northern Iowa. The tackle and
guard has kind of moved around on the offensive line
from the Saints for a twenty twenty seventh pick.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
All right, Matt, I have some textoso reactions.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
The secret text does a fine brought to you by
your so call Toyota dealers.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
We make it easy. This is from an angry high
school football fan correcting our opinion about the new system
for the CIF Okay, correction then retraction. This is a
much better system than anything before. Enrollment sucks. Stupid. Old
divisions were based on previous years and that didn't make sense.
(38:48):
The system is the only This system is the only
one that uses the current year in current teams. It's
not perfect, not at all, but it is better than
the one we had before. Look at the first round
scores from the system. This is versus other years, not
just first round games, but beyond two games are closer,
competitive and harder to predict. Lastly, the only other opinion
(39:11):
is to limit The only other option is to limit
the amount of playoff teams. Oh or another thing that
could be done put the privates in their own division. Yeah,
I mean, well, there you go. The Trinity League, certainly,
I just you know, I mean, that's cruising toward bosco
versus modern day every year point counterpoint. Does you know
I'm not afraid to take a little bit of criticism,
(39:33):
which just.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Does seem like a team in a lower division that
won nine or ten games welcoming in a three win
team from the great Trinity League.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
It's like, what the hell you had the greatest year
in your school history. Here comes Derrick Henry tackling p
I'm black and I want to correct something.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
Correction.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Yoshanoia is not Asian, no mo, It's only in the
hood for a reason. Around my parts we call it
eat and clean comfort food. Yoshanoya is black. Now tell
Kate's to stay away and stick with his hot dog
on a stick and Marie Calendars. And then he sent
a black middle finger. I don't think that's fair. It's
(40:16):
your response. I love Marie Calendars. I wish there was
more round. That's not part of that. That's not what
we wanted. Well, you know what, that's an appropriate response.
Love their pies, love the salad bar, that that scheddar
potato soup. I wanted Burbank to look a lake was
there forever until it shut down. It's unfortunately COVID. This
says Kates and Ronnie are filled with sodium.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yes, I believe it. I salt content just later to night.
Kate's with just a gallon of water tonight. He ties
my second bottle here.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
Tell Matt thanks for the peacock advice. I haven't canceled yet,
and I'm on the same promo rate. My plan was
to sign my wife up with the Black Friday deal
this year and cancel my subscription.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Not a bad play, that's a great play.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
This was regarding our sweet techno Filipino DJ music that
we were playing to promote our Beja's remote in Soritos
a week from yesterday. We're gonna be there three o'clock
three at three to six thirty this coming Monday. This says,
what is this music? With a crying face. I thought
it was great. Wow is this Filipino?
Speaker 2 (41:24):
What's the title on this video?
Speaker 4 (41:26):
Case, it's DJ Love boiler Room, Manila Community Radio.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Yeah, there we go a Filipino Filipino really good electronic
dance music. I'm bobbing my hand. That's another one we got.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Maybe this is the year, p Maybe this is the
year that we get a Filipino DJ troop to come
back to us at DJ's restaurant.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Try to plug into Birt's machine, blow up the whole stage.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
The Alote boys did not embrace us at Brewery X
and Ana Hut.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
We never got a piece of those al days, which
is a shame.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
It is.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
Love it.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
I'm into it.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Super Manila DJ Action. All right, we'll be better beat.
We'll have more great sports talk, great sports talk, number Words,
song of the Day, slip top story, Allan.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Sliwa playing that Filipino DJ music all show long. We'll
talk about a rating spike.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
Especially in a little Filipino town, right, historic Filipino town.
Excuse me, take that place over, that's right where Freddy
Roach's gym is perfect. Thanks for listening. That's the first
hour of the show. We're on for four though today
we'll be done at seven. Stay with us,
