In less than thirty minutes to go until Dodgers on
Deck begins Dodgers in Milwaukee taking on the Brewers final
road trip before the All Star break. David vast Day,
Tim Kates in for the Fellas today until three thirty.
Petrols'll be back tomorrow with Don McClain looking forward to that.

(01:19):
Speaking to Don McClain, thanks to Jim Herrick, who was
just on a few minutes ago. Love the fact that
he is a longtime Dodger fans, the fact that he
was a teacher of morning side in the Dodgers gave
coaches free tickets Monday through Thursday to Dodger games back
in the day, and he took advantage of that and
used to go to as many Dodger games as possible

(01:39):
back in the day pretty quick.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
I didn't even know that myself. All I know is
that at the most surprising time all here, Jim Herrick's
voice at Dodger Stadium call my name and be like,
hey David, David as like coach, Oh my gosh, you listen.
I can't believe this. But I didn't tell him this part.
Remember when I asked him about being at Dodger Stadium

(02:02):
after UCLA won the ninety five National Championship. I actually
was at that game that he threw out the first pitch.
Everybody was there, from Tya Sedney to the Abandon Brothers,
and I had a baseball that was unsigned, and I
got half of the team's autograph nice on this baseball
including Jim Herricks on a sweet spot.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
So you still have it? I still have it? Is
it in a nice, nice little box? It is. It's faded.
It's faded.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
It was signed in ninety five, but the signatures are
still legible.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Speaking of legendable, well more like legendary, Joe Kelly will
be out at the September Stap Room in Eatery and Rancho,
Cucamonga on Friday for the second stop of the twelfth
annual PMS Summer Tour, which is this Friday, July eleventh,
from three to six pm. Get out there right at
three o'clock. Joe Kelly will be there from three until
three thirty. It is Joe Kelly Bobblehead Night that night

(02:55):
out at the Quakes game at Lomard Field. We got
a pair of tickets to give away to that. We
got plenty of Dodger tickets to give his way as well.
It is going to be a Dodger party in the
Ie Yes with Joe Kelly there starting at three o'clock.
We also got a ticket to give away. We've got
a two nights stay at the MGM Resorts in Las Vegas.
A fifty five inch Westinghouse HDTV, and of course you

(03:17):
can always sign up for the VIP Toyota Lounge. Let
me ask you a question here, Tim, what's your role
at this summer tour?

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Well?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
What do you do? Help organize everything David and make
sure that the cattle are all going in the right direction?
Kind of hurt everybody together on Friday?

Speaker 3 (03:31):
I questioning like whether or not you're working or not.
You're so defensive, like nobody's asking you to tell us
what you do?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
What is your role? Yeah? What's your role?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Like?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
What do you do?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Do you just have nachos and some beers and or
do you I don't know what you do?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I have one or two Dodger ritas which they have
a special out there at September's tap room in Eatery.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
And do you wait in the parking lot for Joe Kelly?
Do you hold the mic? Do you hold a skateboard?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I mean I will be the official skateboard. What's your vision?
What's your vision for Friday? My vision, A lot of
Dodger fans are gonna be out of September's tap room
and eating and Rancho Cucamugga right off Haven, and I
think it's gonna be a standing room only crowd right
at three o'clock to see Joe Kelly, not to see
some money. Okay, Well, then when Joe leaves, it'll still

(04:17):
be a standing room only for Petro some money until
six o'clock. I hear you. So it's gonna be a
fun act. I believe you. You don't have to convince me. Well,
if you want to come out, David by mall means
come out, it's right off of the Haven Avenue exit
at the two ten Freeway. I don't go that far
into the IE. I'm sorry, Well, if you can't make
it out there. You can also register online for the
VIP Toyota Lounge and the five thousand dollars that you

(04:38):
can win at the end of the summer tour at
am five seventy la sports dot Com real quick thanks
to Toyota, Sweet James, Surfside Vodka and Iced Tea, Barry's Tickets,
Lone Mark, Westinghouse TVs Living Spaces, and.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
The best part of this summer tour and every summer
tour the last eleven years, is it's regional. You guys
take it to different regions of Southern CA, California, where
our listeners are. So you know, if you live out
there in Laverne or Claremont, or Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, Redlands, Paris,
you can come see Petro some Money. But if you

(05:13):
live in the Grade one eight, you guys come to
Thousand Oaks sometimes.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Be there in August. I can't wait. Yeah, out to
the West side already at the Rock and Bruise in
Elsa Gundo. We'll be down in Orange County.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I was promised, uh Dodger talk remotes at Tarantula Hill.
But still waiting.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Stay interesting, stay by your phone.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Interesting how everything gets parlayed into a Petro some Money
summer tour.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Stop. Now you're starting to catch on. Yeah, yeah, I
am all right, Ronne. Let's get a little quick.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Hitch to MS.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Quick hitch. I'll make it quick, y'all. Oh you believe it, David.
We're four days away from Chargers training camp opening, and
they're opening first because they're playing in the Hall of
Fame game against the Detroit Lions. But four days away
from the Bolt opening. It up to rookie players. Are

(06:03):
they gonna be good this year? They should be good,
but They're in a tough division with the Raiders and
the Chiefs and the Broncos. It is gonna be a
tough AFC West to get out of. Whoever gets out
of there will be one of the front runners, I
think to win the Super.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I actually talk to somebody when we were in Denver,
a Denver media person, and they say, Bo Nicks now
is being treated like a very very high maintenance diva
quarterback these days. And from what I understand, you know,
they're treating him like he is Tom Brady these days
in Denver. So we'll see whether or not that goes
to his head or not. But I'm a big Jim

(06:37):
Harbaugh fan. In fact, I love his mantra of humble
and hungry. If there is one person I love on
the Chargers, it's not a player, it's Jim Harbaugh. And
I'm anxiously awaiting the Rams opening up training camp, and
they're gonna be at Loyola Merrimont this year. They train
right down the street from where my mom still lives,

(06:59):
right down the street from where my mom raised my
brother and I on Shoop and Irwin out there in
Woodland Hills. So I know a lot of people are
shocked about this, but I got one foot in with
the Raiders, and now I got one foot in with
the Rams because they their headquarters are h Q, as
they say, is in Woodland Hills.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
How about any hands in with the Dallas Cowboys who
are coming back to southern California. It will be out
in Oxnard yet again. And David the city council out
in Oxnard, on Monday of last week, agreed to a
new five year deal with the Cowboys to bring them
Cowboys back out to Oxnard through twenty thirty. I love it. It's
a tradition. There's out there before.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yes, I have been out there before. I went out
there back in the early nineties when the Raiders and
Cowboys trained in Oxnart. It's kind of a tradition here
in socow to have the Cowboys up in Oxnart. Obviously,
there's a lot of Cowboys fans all over the country,
and there's a lot here in Los Angeles. So as

(07:58):
much as I am not, I'm not really a Cowboys hater,
but I'm not a Cowboys fan either, But there is
something nostalgic about the Cowboys coming to Oxnard.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I give Jerry Jones a ton of credit back when
the Rams and Raiders both bailed out of town. He
tried to get this market to become Cowboys fans, and
certainly they were good back then with Troy Aikman and crew,
but to make sure they were in southern California for
training camp to get that fan base maybe on their side.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I went to cover a Cowboys training camp in Oxnard
when Bill Parcells was the head coach of the Cowboys.
And certain guys have a presence even if they're twenty
one hundred feet away from you. Bill Parcells was that
type of guy. He had a presence about him, which
explains why he was such a successful head coach.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
It's crazy the Cowboys. You think, oh, it must be
this huge headquarters for training camp. It's a hotel. It's
basically them taking over a two story hotel and all
the players and coaches stay there and then the field
adjacent to them. They put up a huge practice yields
multiple fields and go out there and have training camp.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Another training camp story I had here at AM five
seventy my first year back in four I went up
there as a reporter and producer for the Loose Cannons Mace,
David Hartman, Jim, Michael Thompson, and Vic the Brigg feeling you.
We all went up to NAPA for a Raiders training camp.

(09:24):
You know, I used to work for the Raiders's you, Steve.
I was a PR man with Al Davis Raiders. So
we went up there and all Michael would talk about
is having dinner at Silver Oaks Winery. We went out there.
It was a hotel, a practice field right next to
the hotel. I lost the device that would get them
on the air. I did not lose it Southwest, lost

(09:46):
it at the Oakland Airport. So I've never done anything
like that before. I was like, all right, you lost
it's sorry, Maybe they'll deliver it. My man, you're gonna
go to that Oakland Airport in the morning and you
are going to wait for that id N and bring
it to the training camp. I was like, all right.
So I had to drive back to the Oakland Airport,

(10:08):
drive back to NAPA to get those those guys Hartman
and Michael Thompson on the air, and did some reports
there from Raiders training camp. So those are my training
camp experiences in the NFL. We gotta get you some
better experience yeah, thank you. Maybe go up to Venderson.
The Raiders start camp in a few weeks.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
How about the LMU. Yeah, well your.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Intern Ben ben Hefner goes to LMU. Maybe he can
facilitate something for you guys.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
He was on his laptop, I think two weeks ago,
maybe a week ago, trying to get into the lottery
to get tickets as an LMU student. So we can
go to a Rams training camp. That's so desperate. Bad look,
bad look, Ben Hefner. NBA Summer League Lakers played tonight
against the Spurs in the California Classic up in San Francisco.
Then they will head to Vegas for the start of

(10:57):
the Vegas Summer League. In the game, we're all waiting
for David Browny in the Lakers against Cooper Flag and
the Mavericks on Thursday Night in Prime.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
I would be into that. I am a Summer League fan.
I used to go when the Summer League was at
the Long Beach Pyramid. Those were the glory days of
the Summer League before it when lights camera action in
Vegas and Vegas needs as many people to go there
as possible. Vegas is down, so to have the Summer
League there I mean, I'm in Bronny and Cooper Flag.

(11:28):
I am in on that summer league game.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Baseball Dodgers will be in Milwaukee. At the bottom of
the hour, We've got Dodgers on deck. Clinton Kershaw on
the mountain, David, Dodgers, don't look now, only six games
up in the NL West. Meanwhile, the Angels, they're steadily
getting back to five hundred thanks to Kenley Jansen, who
joined the show in the first hour. You could podcast
it on AI seven, E LA Sports, and the iHeartRadio app.
But the Angels are an interesting team as we get

(11:51):
closer to the trade deadline. David. They're four games back
of the wild card, ten and a half games back
in the division. Gonna be tough to catch first place
in the NL AyL West. But are they a team
that's gonna go for it four games back in the
wildcard race with what now two and a half weeks
still the trade deadline.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I've been told by my sources with the Angels at
this point in time, they are not sellers. They may
make trades at the deadline, but to make them better
this year, not just to sell off. But I will
tell you this, Tim, I know for a fact, the
San Francisco Giants are interested in Taylor Ward. I know
for a fact the Dodgers have been interested in Taylor

(12:29):
Ward for several years, going back to twenty twenty. Remember,
the Dodgers and Angels had agreement in place for a
trade that would have sent Jack Peterson, Ross Strippling and
a kid by the name of Andy Pas to the
Angels in exchange for Taylor Ward and Luis Renhifo, which

(12:51):
would have turned out to be a long term, pretty
good trade for the Dodgers, But in twenty twenty, Jock
Peterson helped them win the World Series. But look, Taylor
Ward's a guy that a lot of teams are interested in.
We'll see whether or not the Angels move them. They're
not just gonna take anything for him, though.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
No, thank you Artie Moreno for shooting that trade down
in Anaheim. You gotta manage relationships, Tim. Unfortunately, we don't
have any time to get to the WNBA news, but
Kaitlyn Park is expected to return to the court tomorrow night.
She has been out basically like the last month and
a half. I'm a Kaitlyn Clark fan, huge fan, huge fan.
She's good for the sport. The hate and the envy

(13:28):
of the other women in that league make me like
her even more. It's real, by the way, that hatred.
I know everybody's so jealous, Not like you, Tim. You
do not have one bone of jealousy in your body.
Petros can go to that bootleg sandwich spot every day
and you are not jealous about it. You can live
your simple life here in Burbank and be very content.

(13:49):
My simple life here in Burbank. I love it. Thank you, David,
A lot of fun today. Let's do it again, eh Ronnie.
Thanks for all your health today. Thanks for listening. You
can podcast this here on a five to seventy LA
Sports and again we'll talk at fifteen minutes. Tim, Yeah,
let's brend down the hall to the Dodger studio. All right,
that sounds good. A lot of David, a lot of
Tim today on a five to seventy LA Sports. Dodger

(14:10):
Baseball is next.
