Because Ronnie's got the song of the day in like
six seven minutes. This is like a guy whose girlfriend
starts a fight with him right before he's gonna go
on and do karaoke. Now he's got to do the winner.
He've ruined it for him on the phone, and he's
got the songs to go on. And now he's gonna
have to be on the phone with Carlos from Santa
Claire between the word and the number giving away. Really
(02:30):

We did age six six seven two five seventy Caller ten.
You're coming to Dodger.
Speaker 3 (02:35):

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Root plates here, the dogs are here.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
You want kaso with those nachos extra five hundred.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I just dug into that guacamole. That had to be
no less than it's.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
More food on a private jet is less expensive than
the Dodgers sweets. But that's corporate world for you. What
can we do?
Speaker 4 (03:16):
All right?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well, still to come, We're going to do a top
Kates already go downstairs. I don't know where Kate's he
had to have gone downstairs. No, I think he went
to go do some preparation for Marongo Casino. Dodgers on deck.
The truth is Tim Kates is way overtaxed. When the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Start, we stretch him pretty thin with scam.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
The scam saxon Kates in the am.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
He's got to do some Dodger talks along with his
Dodgers on deck.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
He's got Dodgers on deck, and he has to produce
the Petros and Money Show and Matt and I, well,
we're a lot to handle. So I don't know exactly
where he went, Matt, but that does not prevent us
from doing unless his mic is opened.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I'm on the field. Good, That's what I thought. On
the third baseline. You just emerged.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
What are you doing now?
Speaker 2 (04:05):
There a little scene cent's happening down all right?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Tell us what's going on.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Well, there's a lot more media today than there was yesterday.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
There's that I saw that big guy in the rainbow
shirt come in. I watched him go through security. Yeah,
I'm right next to him. There's a lot more Japanese media,
probably because Yamamoto was on the mountain.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
That could be it makes sense. Yeah, what about here's
my number.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
I'm just fanfare for Yamoo, that's all.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
What about what about Petrosen?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Money?
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Friendly media types? Just like down there? No, everybody down
here you either hate or they hate you. Is Gomer
down there? Ye looking right at them? Is he not
gonna do today?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Man? Today?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Like if they're turning us down, like we can't keep
coming back, then they're gonna get mad.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
At No, that's Joe Davis's look alike. There's somebody in
the front office, a scout or somebody Davis exactly.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
He's got the ward j But.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
He looks exactly like him though, and you can go
up to him and go, hey, what's up Joe? And
Nightingale usually comes out for these games. Is Nightingale down there?
Gals here today? I don't see him out here along
the third baseline? Okay, but uh, there's a there's a
lot of Japanese media out here. Oh I thought you
got that. There's like an attractive female or something you have,
like a friend like.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
This one.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I would wear it for it sounds like that the
Dodgers aren't doing infield drills right now, which they don't
do often. They do a lot of outfield drills and
BP certainly, but Dalton Rushing taking ground balls at first
base along with Freddy Freeman. Well you heard what Dave
said about Mookie Betts not wanting to grab that grounder
(05:47):
for snell Zilla that cost him a round. Maybe this
is their punishment. Yeah, maybe you guys this one.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
You know, it is kind of funny because I don't
like I'm not I don't. I mean, I appreciate an
attractive woman as much as everybody else. I like him
a little bigger, but uh, what you mean? You know
a little rounder was offtig I guess would be tronly.
But that being said, like I don't recognize like when
people are saying like something like about like a check
(06:19):
out this chick, Like you know, somebody be like, hey,
you've been to TCU recently, It's like, no, why what's
going unbelievable scenery. I'm like, really in Fort Worth you
would Oh you're talking about the chicks. I get it.
But I will say this, when I heard Kate's tone
changed like that, that's exactly like the changing of the tide.
Matt I thought he's going to talk about some chick
(06:40):
down there. Maybe Weesa's X, but it she is. I
had way too many political problems to keep you know that.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Dogs not not political problems that a camquarder can't get
you out of.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Jeez, man, what.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
He's ways the word of the day. Speaking of political problems,
today's word of the day is hateful speech. The Big
Twelve has announced its fining Colorado fifty thousand dollars. That's
a lot of money for inappropriate chance that occurred when
the Buffaloes hosted BYU this past Saturday. Big Twelve Commissioner
(07:23):
Brett yor Mark released a statement regarding the conference's decision, saying,
hateful and discriminatory language has no home in the Big
Twelve Conference. While we appreciate Colorado apologizing for the chance
that occurred in the stands during Saturday's game, the Big
Twelve maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Colorado will receive
(07:46):
a fifty thousand dollars fine in accordance with our conference policies.
What did they say, Well, there was some speculation about
what was said. We were able to do some reconnaissance
and figure out what the fans were yelling, make way
(08:07):
for B. Why you say?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
It's me?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Why you Hey?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
What's to day? Is it dead lane day?
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (08:18):
No, gotta go log on right?
Speaker 6 (08:20):
Oh way, and I'll be the first on my block
to click up LI make way here. I come through
the mail, let me them. Hey they sent me.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
I go to reapply. Why here's my debut? This slowly?
It's got forty more seconds? Should we do it?
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Well?
Speaker 6 (08:36):
Feared you to reject, but that proved incorrect. So glad
you want me.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
It's a lot of words.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I tried my.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
Best to stay call, but when I read the letter
to my mom.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I couldn't contain my excitement. No surred, B. Why you
would I do? Had you rejected me? Probably side and
B yu idaho it would be not to strays.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
The potatoes could win some awards. Bring Juicy.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
In eighteen seventy five, it was started five second by some.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Guys looking that's not what they were certain they were saying.
And I thought it would be something really bad, like
you're a virgin or super soker, right, But instead it
was f the Mormons.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, kind of right to the point.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Along with some other distasteful chance that might have been
so oker soulker.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
I remember the World Cup in the nineties.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
It was a World Cup in the nineties, and I
believe Italy was playing England and the chant was f
the Pope over and over and over again, and Italy
did not. Man, you just came from the Ryder Cup.
You know, there was a lot of you know, I
can't believe people in New York got riled up and
it would have shot right. Monday, Colorado released its statement
condemning its fans actions. University of Colorado Boulders strongly condemned
(09:57):
the use of exploitism religious slur by individuals in the
stands during the recent football game against b Why use
isn't it love least? Such behavior is deeply disappointing and
does not reflect the values of respect, inclusion, and integrity
we expect of our campus community.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I'm not mad, we are disappointed.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Remember we are the people that retired Shadur Sanders number.
We include everybody attending sporting events and CU Boulders a
privilege and with that comes the responsibility of the amazing
spider Man to uphold I didn't put that part the
fan code of contact duct the university and CU athletics
have strict policy when it comes to abusive behavior. Matt
(10:39):
and those found to have engaged in conduct that is
not consistent with our values are held accountable, and people
in Salt Lake City were catatonic over this. I watched
a five minute news clip with a psychologist talking about
what happens when people get a herd mentality make for
(11:01):
b why?
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I like the question from the studio an I was like, doctor,
tell us, what if one of our kids is in
the crowd there they don't feel like, how.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Do they disengage? How do they disengage half the Mormons? Beer?
Speaker 2 (11:15):
They can't drink beer?
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Is there a hot chick that I'm trying to take home?
Scream at half the Mormons right next to me, because
that's gonna that's gonna just my reaction.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
You know, because I've raised them better. I know they
wouldn't do that, But you know, the crowd starts doing it,
and my son all of a sudden started doing how
do we tell them not.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
To do it? It was a great segment. We might
play it tomorrow. Sports Psychiatrist for five. Where did the
Dodgers win? We might play it tomorrow because we got
a four hour show. Here's my number to number of
the day.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Number the day is twenty pee. It has been not
only did we have one sing along, We're about to
have two.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Come on black Mark, get app say throated.
Speaker 2 (11:50):

it went off the air, and it is returning October fourth,

Speaker 2 (12:59):

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Alum LeVar Burton kine On roots the guy the Blind

Speaker 2 (13:09):

Michael Threetz. He is a library he is. He is
a librarian from northern California.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Is he black? He is black? Got to be black.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, he's a black librarian and he apparently is a
famous as you would imagine social media person that like
does library videos about books and reading and the library
and so probably too old.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
He's not, you know, he's very vibrant. What are you
talking about down there, Kates? Are people reacting to the
reading Rainbow.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Everybody's buzzing about it right now? Boys, did you let
them know they can go anywhere? Friends to know places
to go Reading Rainbow?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
I always get I can do anything, and I always
always get that wrong. I'm sorry. I don't think it's
I think it's we. We would always that time, Matt.
I know that's because I looked it up.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
I had to.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Figure out my age years. It was in the story.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Really, I think was in this story. So congratulations, Michael Threetz,
PBS seven am, October fourth, John Legend.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
You can't think it would be very expensive to produce
the Reading Rainbow.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
The big superstar from the Bear are some of the
early guests.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
The guy from Gene Wilder's grandson.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yeah, so there you go. It's back and Ronnie has
texted us the winner. Oh yeah, yes, Ronnie is ready
for his big song of the day. But prior to
that run, I'm about to go on. David Toulson is
currently in traffic on the fifty seven Freeway, so he's
got maybe a little bit of a poke to get
to Dodger Stadium. So it's a good thing we gave
(14:51):
it away early p at your urging good luck to
give David enough time to get here for first pitch.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Text me in like seventh inning. Just got here.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Congratulations.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Takes a lot.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Be sure to tune into you guys, couldn't get it
away an hour ago.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
All right, it's time for the song of the nest.
This is the song of the day.
Speaker 8 (15:13):
Today's song of the Day is called the Double Up
from jazz composer Schumpeter Lee Morgan because the Petrosen Money
Shows doubled up on a back to back Flex Alert
featuring a live remote broadcast from beautiful Dodgers Stadium before
Game two of the National League Wild Card Playoff series,
(15:35):
looking to double up against the Reds. That'll begin on
time with our friend Tim Kates, who's camped out at
Dodgers Stadium with a wild card playoff edition of your
Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck show, beginning at five o'clock.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Are you running?
Speaker 3 (15:54):
I'm looking down there, Matt, and it's just Kate's and
a bunch of Japanese people. Nobody else Kate. It's like, no,
nobody that hasn't already turned us down. The guy we
wanted to talk to his catching tonight? Do you want
the guy said no, the stripe shirts.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Look at that guy, rainbow stripe shirt guy. Who is he?
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Clue? He's a big guy in a rainbow shirt.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Where does he work?
Speaker 3 (16:17):
He's got a cred answer.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
I get to a drive by real quick. Hold on,
that's not the Spectrum guy? Is it?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
No?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
But congratulations? Is it a guy on the fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Like whenever we're down there, standcast and is always high
in us.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Just hand him a microphone. I don't know if he's
in on us because he wants us to beat it.
I think you figured it out without me even saying anything.
We'll be right back with a story because that's what
we do here in great sports talk content. We're live
at Dodger Stadium on m five seventy l A Sports
and we're your home with the Dodgers. Naturally, we're in this, suek.
(17:08):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Make AM five seventy or your favorite AM five seventy
LA Sports podcast a preset on the iHeartRadio using Apple
Car Play or Android Auto.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Road Trip all summer with LA Sports live at Dodger Stadium,
Petros and Money here on your home of the World
Series champion Dodgers, SAM five seventy LA Sports Rick Monday's
Stephen Nelson will be on the call tonight. On the
call last night, enjoyed listening to Dodgers on Deck on
the way home, got about the first inning and a half,
(17:41):
two innings in the car, whenever a big play happens,
like Otani hitting that Donner to get the game started,
kind of like to look around, you know, if you're
stuck in traffic, so U else.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Wad Yeah? Like me?
Speaker 2 (17:58):
I think I was doing the guy I punched the oh.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Like the big Lebowski when he's listening to Credence. Yeah,
right before he crashes drops a joint in his lap.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
I got excited about the first home run a little bit,
and then I was looking around like, oh, anybody else
with me?
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Well, Tim Kates was downstairs roving, and I believe he thought.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
I see Glanville and Boog and and that was a
true statement that Glanville gave him that he had to
go take a photo. I saw the three of them together,
Boog and Glanville, and I think Alden is the guy's
name that's on the uh, you know, on the field.
I saw them take a photo.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
The ESPN crew from last night. Now, Kate's what's our update?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Uh, they're still huddled together with Yeah, he's on his phone,
boots walking away. Doug just pointing it towards my direction,
like he's gonna go doing radio interview. I think that's
what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Oh that other guy was trying to talk to him.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, Alden, Alden dog Lanville. Doug is like, yeah, I
gonna go over here. Oh look at this.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Long and strong, a long, tall drink of water. He's
been on our show before. Yes, so joining us right
now on your Southern California Toyota dealer. We think celebrity hotline. Yeah,
he's doing it, he's doing it. He's doing it. Many
former Philly former Cup cub ended his career as a
Philly called a great game last night with Bug. We
(19:19):
appreciate him joining us. He's been a mainstay at ESPN
for quite some time, and they did a very good
job last night on the game. It is our friend
for the second time who says that we alienate p Well, right,
Rod Glanville will never do it again, but at least
we got today on the Petroson Money Show, Hi Doug,
thanks for doing it. We're up here in the suite.
Good to see you there.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Don't see you guys out there, and I'm not on camera.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
No, no, well you'll be actually we can't guarantee that,
but not on our camera. So give us a little
impression of last night and and what you expect today.
It's uh, the Dodgers are certainly look like a playoff juggernaut,
and the Reds looked a little bit like a team
that backed into the playoff.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
Yeah, I mean a fireworks show as expected in some
ways because of their offense is just special and shoeyo tani.
When you're leading off with someone with that capability of
driving himself in, I mean, it's something that every pitcher
has a nightmare about because you know, you can't really
make mistakes from the first pitch of the game, So
that's instant pressure. And you know their ability to not
(20:21):
only hit for power but also have discipline. You know,
guys like Max Munsey, they work counts, they hit mistakes,
They just seem to be a step ahead. And then
when you have the depth of pitching now to go
with that, which you know wasn't healthy for a lot
of the season but kind of came together at the
right time. You know, they're they're hitting all cylinders right now.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
The you guys posted the graphic last night and it
was wild to see that. Did Max Munsey highest walk
rate in the postseason save Barry Bonds. That's how much
he has walked.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
They kind of got away from it, Doug during the season,
and we heard Freddy Freeman probably about a month ago
say that, you know, they kind of had to get
back to working counts, to grinding it. What is as
someone who's done it and did it as long as
you did it, how does that happen? Like how do
you kind of lose the identity of your team and
start striking out a lot and you're only scoring one
or two runs for like a month long stretch.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Well, part of it is just recognizing that this sport,
this game is kind of streaky, right, It has a
lot of highs and lows, But there are elements that
you have some control over, and that is your work ethic,
your consistency. You know, defense can be there. You can
have these things that you can lean on, and then
you have you know, a good clubhouse environment. You know,
Dave Roberts has done this a long time. He knows
(21:34):
exactly not only how to manage a team, but to
manage superstars. I mean, they have a lot of stars
that I've seen teams where they step on each other,
they compete for space. These guys are just giving and
selfless players like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts. So when
you have that tone set by your best players, it
does change things. Because the example is right there. You
don't have to just talk about it, you watch it
(21:55):
being lived out every single game. So that helps you
through what are the up and downs? And then Freddy Freeman,
a guy like that who's so consistent. That's what greatness
looks like, right. You know, no matter what he sticks
to his routine, he has his plan, he's still productive.
He plays through injury. You know, this makes it a
lot easier when you have such great examples in front
(22:16):
of you, and then you will go through these bad
stetches inevitably no matter how good you are. You get
the vision from these guys to know that, Okay, we'll
get through it, and we can get through it together.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
IVY League level analysis from Doug Lanville, the former Penn
Quaker hendy, very heady, very heady. Last year we saw
the bullpen overcome a lack of starting pitching on the
way to a World Series title. Can dominant starting pitching
like it looks they have going into the postseason here
overcome issues in the bullpen or is that going to
(22:48):
have to be figured out if they're going to win again.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Well, they can overcome. And the thing that's interesting about
the Dodgers last few years is, you know, Dave Roberts
went in last year without a full rotation. Let's call
it what it is. They were missing guys that add
pieces injuries. And this year they actually have a lot
of their starters, you know, all over the place. So
that is a nice luxury. Now it's who's going to
be the one that's able to come in and maybe
(23:11):
go three in the middle or if that's necessary, who's
going to be the sort of long reliever. Well, they
have so many good pitchers, that's you know, you can
almos answer itself by depending on the day. But so
but the bullpen is still going to be a critical
part because that lasts. That's seven through nine. That's six
through nine. You know, you have to execute and when
you play teams you know, I'll give an example like
(23:32):
the Tigers that love to mix and match late, and
you have to try to neutralize and be a step
ahead of their matchups that love these platoon advantages and
defensive versatility. You know that plays well when you your
bullpen is intact and in order because you can counter
things and you can depend on guys that know what
their role is and know how to execute that role.
(23:53):
So that's where it can be critical. But you know,
Dave Roberts has shown he can win a lot of
different ways and managed differently, and that is his credit
in the organization's credit, and that's why you know they're
probably not very concerned because they finally have all their starters.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
A great outfielder turned analyst, Doug Lanville, we sure appreciate you.
We know, you got to go one more, and you're
a man who's very, very deep in the Philadelphia community,
deeper than Genos and Pats and even boys to men.
We don't want to look ahead, but we're broadcasters, so
it doesn't matter if we do. What do you make
of a Dodge, a potential Dodger at Philly matchup?
Speaker 4 (24:29):
Well, first of all, you're shaking my childhood a little bit. Okay.
I was a Phillies fan growing up, and the Dodgers
knocked them out in seventy seven seventy eight, and then
of course, living in New Jersey, I had to deal
with a Yankee fan, so that was a little tricky.
But then you know, eventually nineteen eighty the Phillies pulled
it out. This could be a phenomenal series if this
plays out, because you see, like the Phillies have the
(24:52):
pitching to go kind of toe to toe with the Dodgers,
and they have the power guys like Kyle Schwarber, they
have the star power, and they have the closer and
they're just set up to be like this mono almano series.
So I think the matchup is incredible to watch, and
some of the best teams clearly in the game, but
also just the talent there. You know, what, what's Pryce
(25:13):
Harper going to do? So when you look at that
lineup and then look at the Dodgers, you see a
lot of similarities and there's nothing like two great teams
going at it.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Do you hate when people say Gino's are Pats because
there's another place that you'd rather we say.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
No, we see It's funny. My first steakhouse was Abner's.
That was on campus. You know, what's the University of Pennsylvania,
So in Philly and it was nearby and I walked
over there, so that's how I kind of started. But yes,
you know, and Pats and it's all about the bread.
Let's not forget that. You know, I'm Roso's and so
we uh yeah, and I'm from Jersey close enough that
I was a Philly friend they were growing up, as
I mentioned, so I was in Philly a decent amount
(25:47):
and family there. So yeah, there's a lot of rivalry
and that that sums up what the next series could
look like. Pats.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
There we go, all right, Ville, have a great call tonight. Done,
Thanks for stopping. We appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
Yeah, thanks for inviting me on. Thank you, doug Landville.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Everybody k knocking it out.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
You know that might push our Dodger commentary the next hour. Yeah,
to the next hour, which is good, pee, because that's
where it was yesterday. If we want to try to
keep everything as uniform as possible compared to yesterday, David
Veass saying our second segment, it was a little combative again.
Today started out a little combative. We hirned that thing
out today.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Tim Kates goes down on the field in the second hour,
secures an interview when the prospects looked bleak for a
moment at the last, at the last second, he secures
doug Landville, the great producer that he is. So yeah,
I think top story right at out the gate at
five o'clock is how we have to do this, all right,
It's just like we did.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Yes, well we have great cats too, but we can
do We can mess with that too, right, we can
move that around, all right, Come back up, Kates, You've
done your due diligence.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
What about Betty Roddy whatever we're calling. Oh yeah, Rovett
is coming on. I got my head on a swivel
looking for him. Okay, the answer is takes staying down there?
Speaker 3 (27:00):
All right, We'll be right.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
What happened yesterday We got Dino Ebel in that last
segment of this hour at the right when Kate's was
leaving to come upstairs, they called them back and said,
Dino's ready. So if we get road fed here, Holy.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Heck, I mean, just gass up the jet, let's get
the pill and Philly, I.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Just want him on to see what his nickname is.
Is it Veetti, is it Rordy? Is it b Dog?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
What is it Geno's or Pats Abners? Right, we'll be
back with more pet dressed money on this week. Just
won't be defeated Wednesday on AM five seventy LA Sports,
your home of the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Hello, PMS listener, Did you know AM five seventy LA
Sports has a wide range of LA Sports podcasts. There's
Rogan and Roddee. That one is my favorite, Dodger Talk with.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
David Vasse, the Dodger Podcast of Record, Clipper Talk with
Adam Moss, follow us all, and many more. Just go
to A five seventy LA Sports on the iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Big Thanking of doug Landville, Tim Kate's down there on
the field secure. In that interview, he is still chasing
Rordy or Vetti or Benny Biceps.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
According to Jess Mendoza. Yes, Jess, I don't want to
start my story and be like, oh, well, joining us
now right, Like, I don't want to do that. You know,
I don't appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Where kates, where you at? I'm in runing for the dugout.
I'll pop out towards the grass so you see, Hey,
I'm looking for him. I don't unless he's shagging balls
out there and right center field, you think he's under
he dies downstairs. He might be underneath because pr is
actually trying to find him too. Oh they are, so
they are actively trying to find Ben. Word closer and
closer we get the first pitch. I mean we're two
(28:49):
hours away now, I mean, and he's catching. So it's
a big deal. Man, treat it like any other day.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Well, I don't know, Matt, you know, I mean that
sounds like what you want.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
To do, you know, Like what would Austin Barnes do
in this situation.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
He would not go on because radio is dead.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, he wouldn't even flip us off.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Yeah, Well, let's get into this before it goes away completely.
It is time for the flip top story of the day.
I'll flip you out, I will look you out. This
is the flip top story of the day. I'll flip
you for real. Uh, USC lost, Matt, You remember that? Well?
Speaker 2 (29:24):
I remember they weren't supposed to lose. I remember they
were on their way to the playoffs. Yeah, well I remember.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
I mean, our boss came in and cracked a mic
and wanted me to admit how much us he has improved,
and I did. Uh, they have improved. But it was
not a shock that they lost a shock. I was
a little bit surprised by the fact that Illinois overcame
the humiliating defeat at the hands of Big Tobacco Kurt
Signetti in Bloomington Tobacco. I mean, that was a terrible
(29:53):
loss for Illinois, I mean sixty plus, and they came
home and played great. But USC, of course mismanaged the
game on the road, and the road is hard. But
I do want to point this out because I think
it goes deep, deeply into USC's bigger issues. And it's
the fact that with two minutes left on the Illinois sixteen,
(30:19):
it's first and ten and USC. Remember Matt is lucky
to be in a position to go ahead. They had
recovered two fumbles that were gonna be Illinois touchdowns that
were going into the instrument bout. Well, they should have
lost by two schools or they should have been.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I knew it.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
But we got Dalton rushing with me down here, guys,
it's your favorite kids down along the third base side.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Want to Dalton.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Were talking to Petros and mad They're sitting up and
doing the sweetlight of it. They're too lazy to come
down here and talk to you. They just delivered the
fruit plate, you know, and the s up there.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I was right in the middle of the most complicated
football play football. But that's the point right now, Dalton rush,
right now, we got to have pros. The bill called
him up. Everybody loves him. He's right out of the bill.
It is Dalton rushing on the Petro. Somebody showing am
FI seventy la sports. Dalton? How are you how you're feeling?
How much are you enjoyed the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Here? Yeah, it's fun.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
It was a good atmosphere last night, and looking to
get the job done to night so we can get
on our way.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
To Philly.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Does anything surprise you about the way that some of
these guys approach the playoffs, The way that some of
these old vetananos in the clubhouse are acting. Are they
playing a lot of grab ass? What's the vibe down there?
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Yeah, I mean it's it's another baseball game in that clubhouse,
and that's what we treat it like. Obviously there's a
little more intensity cut that goes into it, but uh,
essentially it's just everyone do your job and we're gonna
be in a good foot.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Spain of doing your job. Heck of a job this year,
especially handling the staff. I mean it's one thing to
get called up, but you get called up and you're
catching Clayton Kershaw and what's his final season sho hal
Tani when he gets starts Yamamodo, all that sort of stuff.
Give us an idea of what it's been like working
with those guys and how you know, I guess easy
is maybe is the right word. They've kind of made
(32:00):
it for you to to kind of get acclimated.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Yeah, I think that's a good way of looking at it.
It's quite honestly, it's just they have really good stuff.
Makes the catcher's job a little easier being able to
trust all their pitches different counts, different situations, and honestly,
at the end of the day, as long as they
executed a halfway decent clip, we're gonna have a good one,
good showing from them. And yeah, I've done a really
good job of building relationship with those guys and just
(32:24):
being able to be on the same page as much
as possible.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
So if you don't mind a couple operational questions for you, Dalton,
the pitch com and like, if you have it, if
they have it, sort of navigating that process. Is it
super easy? Is it? Is it weird? How often does
it go out? And then the second part, since you
spent some time, you know, down there when they were
working on the challenge system and the robot dumps and
all that, how did that go on? How do you
(32:46):
think it's going to go next year?
Speaker 5 (32:48):
Yeah, I think it'll Uh, there's gonna be both sides
to it. I think it's gonna be good for the game.
It's also going to be some things that guys don't like.
I think some pitchers believe they deserve parts of the
strike zone that not every pitcher is gonna get or
not every pitcher gets. I don't agree nor disagree with them.
Some guys played this game for a really long time
(33:09):
and they've earned the right to have that part of
the strike zone. And I think, honestly, I do think
the challenge system is gonna take a little bit of
the heat off umpires. It's gonna add a little bit,
kind of make them a little more responsible for their job.
You're kind of gonna get shown up if you miss
a bad one. But at the same time, I think
(33:30):
the human nature of baseball is something that's been around
since this game's obviously started, So I do think there's
gonna be some people upset with it.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
This is an emotional game. Do you have to have
emotion and passion and pride to do it every day
at the high level like you have? But also, you know,
being a catcher, being any kind of hit or anything,
you have to be measured as well and have your routine.
How does that balance out for you here in the
postseason trying to contribute to this team.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Yeah, I think for myself, I play with a lot
of intensity. I play with intensity whether it's Game one
of one sixty two or it's Game one sixty two,
and then obviously moving to the playoffs, things heat up
a little quicker and emotions come out a little bit.
But I think that's why we play this game, and
I think that's what's October sport.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
When you came up the guy standing across from there,
Tim Kate, who does Dodgers on Dack.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Also at the high school, All CIF High School catch
also high school exactly All CIF here back in nineteen
ninety six, Dalton, he noticed the trunk, the power in
the trunk of your body. So coming up football wrestling,
like what else was in your background.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
It was football.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
That's where it's where most of it comes from. I
would say that's where a lot of the intensity comes from.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
You.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
You can take intensity out on a football field a
whole lot different than you can on a baseball field.
So sometimes you got to learn that the hard way.
But uh, but yeah, I would say that's where the
build comes from for sure, Dalton.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
We really appreciate you doing this. Good luck in the series,
good luck in the playoffs. It's been a wonder watching
you join the team and watching you thrive. And we've
been talking about you down on the farm for a
little while. Great to see the real thing in person.
Did you shave that mustache? You're a little far away
from that.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
It's shaved right now.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
You might see it in the next week or two.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
There we go, get back. That's like a little teas.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
There's a real fireman stash you had going there. We
liked it.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Teas for the listeners, thank you, Dalton Rushing. That bird
has teeth in Louisville. Bless you, Dalton. Have a great series, bro,
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. All right.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
There he goes, Oh katess six to midnight there with
Dalton Rushing on the mic.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
What about me?
Speaker 2 (35:34):
You didn't know that was gonna happen. You had to
know that that was coming.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Well, they couldn't get the one catcher, but they did
get the other. Right, Do you want me to finish it? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:42):
You should. You should have seen him size me up
when you guys are like, oh, you know, there's ten
k's down there also, Yeah, did he humiliate you? Yeah,
but I got kind of like a side glance.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Like you Yeah, well it was thirty years ago, all right.
I mean that's why I said, now I want to
see what you look like in thirty years Dalton, okay
with your weird stash.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Okay, second down and nine.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
All right, here's the scene foodball, USC going into score.
They're on the sixteen first and ten two minutes left.
They've recovered two fumbles that were gonna be Illinois touchdowns.
They are, fortunately for them, about to take the lead.
(36:24):
How did USC's defense play all day? Dashed all day?
They only gave up, They only forced one punt. There's
two minutes left. You've got to run the ball. You
gotta get forty three to forty seven seconds off the clock.
But Lincoln Riley Matt oh No throws for the end
(36:46):
zone to get the lead over the decimated ALIONI secondary,
and they scored right away. Part of the complementary game
of football includes being a head coach and manage the game.
Lincoln Riley isn't just the play caller at USC. He's
managing the whole team all three phases. You can't call
(37:09):
that play like you're the OC. You have to be
the head coach. Why are you trying to score so
fast instead of forcing Illinois to call a time out.
Why he did what someone with very little foresight would do,
throw to score. He did not protect his defense or
his program, and USC had only forced one punt in
(37:30):
the whole game. Everybody knew how the game was flowing.
The Allion I took the gift of time and their
timeouts and only needed a field goal to win, and
they pretty easily managed the clock and brought out the
kicker and won the game. Unbelievable. Well, USC would have
(37:51):
escaped with a top twenty five win in a game
that their defense was still asleep in rural Illinois. Instead Illinois,
it is yeah. Instead. A lot of air is out
of the Mayaba Heisman balloon and the USC playoff balloon.
There is air in the mackay Lemon bolitnikoff balloon. He's
(38:15):
a very special wide receiver. I hope they can keep
him healthy. Jacobe Lane is beat up. They got a
bye week, and then Michigan comes here, and Michigan can
really hurt USC up front and on the edges. Okay,
back to the Dodgers. That's all we had to do.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Let's go. You knew he was coming on as soon
as you started.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I did, well, I guess you know. I did. What
I didn't appreciate is your celebration of the mid coit
as stop like, yeah, you like that.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
I just knew what was gonna happen. No, I just
knew that we were guaranteed to get somebody.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
I saw your failure into tea leaves, and now it
has come to fruition.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
And you set it up perfectly, like you know I'm
gonna start this door.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Yeah that. We're happy to have Daunt rushing, absolutely, and
we'll be right back with the top story of the day,
the final hour, fun fact, some quick hits, and then
we will hand it over to Tim Kates and what
some expect to be a leisurely jaunt through Cincinnati to
a flight to Philadelphia tomorrow. Guess up the jet, That's
(39:23):
what he said. Yeah, Patrick, somebody on m FI seventy
LA sports your hold the dog
