Coaching Chargers Patriots, Sunday, Primetime, five pm on KF, I

(03:58):
am six forty. Under normal circumstances, the following daily rations
were to be given to each patriot Revolutionary War soldier
one and one half pounds of flour or bread, one
pound of fish or beef, and finally one gill which

(04:27):
is four ounces one gill of whiskey. Daily rations Revolutionary
War Soldiers, tough War indeed, Well, I was hoping for bread,
but I got a pound and a half of flour.
What about that mohawk Native American guy, I'll paint it up.
That's right next to me, holding up a bloody act

(04:47):
going does he get any rations? I'm just gonna dust
this gill of whiskey and see what happens by the
time I come to.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Oh, there's mel Gibson with two axes. All right, it's
time for quick hits.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
TMS, quick hitch. I'll make it quick, y'all.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Oh yeah, anfl head man Jim Harbaugh will join us
in the very next segment.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
He did not get fired today, but others did. Black
Monday around the league, a lot of dudes got the boom.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Carroll's chin got punched off. The Silver and Black are
bad after one season at three and fourteen record.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
I didn't know they won three. They won their last
game like twelve to eleven. I've been the worst game
played in the NFL all season.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Here is a GM John spytech who's very very involved
in counter espionage. Sure, counterintelligence. You just don't know what's
going on with this guy. It's very tough, very secret.
Lias a spy here, he is earlier on the decision.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
We have a massive opportunity in front of us this
offseason to set this organization, in this franchise on a
course for success and provide the results that Grater Nation
in the Las Vegas community deserves and expects. We attend
to tack at full on. We have the work has
already already begun. I think we're all aware of all

(06:10):
the resources that that Mark and Ownership group given have
made us, have given to us. Obviously, there's the draft.
We have capital, we have one of the greatest buildings,
if not the greatest building in the NFL. There's a
lot to be excited about here, and it is going
to be my responsibility to lead this up and set
this organization organization on a course of sustained success. Just

(06:34):
because we have the first pick in the draft that
that didn't carry a lot of weight in the decision
that we made. You know, I think we have an
great opportunity to build this franchise the right way.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Now.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
We never want to be in this spot again. I
never thought I would be in the spot, but we
got to be real with where we're at. We have
to understand the opportunity that we have in front of us,
and our our focus and our vision is on everything
going forward.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Now, what do you think ultimately happened this year to
lead to where you guys ended up number one?

Speaker 7 (07:03):
I mean, obviously we didn't win enough games early in
the year. Sometimes I go back to the Bears game
where we were one and two and they're two and one,
and we turned it over four times, we got to
kick blocked, and we really had that game one about
three or four different times. And it's kind of been
my experience where that kind of win can propel you,
or that one can kind of sink you. And I
think we all know how the season went after that.

(07:25):
You know, we got a couple of our guys hurt
that were big blows to us. But listen, those are
just excuses. I mean, we just didn't perform well enough.
We didn't play well enough, We didn't do the right
things consistent enough to win games.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
And you know, you are what you are.

Speaker 7 (07:38):
We're three and fourteen and we've got a lot of
work to do. Could you describe Brady's level of evolvement
in the decision to part ways with Pete Carroll. I
would just say that, you know, everything was evaluated, you know,
as the season went and over the last couple of days,
and I talked to him almost every day, and we
have a great relationship. He trusts me, We tell each

(08:01):
other the truth, and you know, we had we just
had a lot of conversations about it. Ultimately we made
a decision that this was in the best interest of
the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
The Cardinals have fired their head coach John Gannon after
three seasons. Cleveland hired fired Kevin Stefanski, who they had
hired previously.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
I believe he is the two time coach of the
Year Stefanski in his six seasons there two times.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
And the Falcons fired what Raheem Morris.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah, after punching the Carolina Panther ticket into the playoffs
by knocking off and I believe tying the record. I
think they're tied for first place at eight and nine.
The Falcons, the Bucks and the Panthers all tied at
eight and nine. He gets fired. It's harder to fire
a black guy. It's hard to fire an Ivy League
guy like Stefanski. Yeah, not a lot of those I

(08:51):
find that offensive. I look at Jared Mayle, he went
down after one year that he had to really screw
that up. That in Miami, it was locker room clean
out day for the dolphoon Or. Reporters approached to a
tongue of Bloa and he said he would be good
with a new opportunity elsewhere, that would be dope. Well,
he was asked if he wants a fresh start, and
his response was that would be dope, and then another

(09:14):
reporter said, you know that means it would be an
opportunity elsewhere, and he just kind of went, ah. It's
a really good interaction with him. And the assembled media.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Phil Rivers is not gonna come back back and play quarterback.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
He is not gonna come back black. No, he is
definitely a very white guy. He might be the whitest
guy to have ever played football. It's easier to fire
a white guy, man. I'm telling you, if you were
to ask who's the whitest guy you know in football?
Dad Gummet.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
He wants to be a head coach now, but no
opportunities have presented themselves yet.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
I do believe once his son Gunner finishes his senior year,
you will see Philip Rivers certainly getting any offers. I
believe in the at least collegiate coaching ranks. That seems
to be the word on the street.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Like a head coach.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Chargers are heading to New England to play the Patriots
on Sunday night. Patriots with two axes, a three and
a half point home favorite in Foxborough. They're gonna have
to face those two axes and a very angry Mel
Gibson flanked by Gerard dep Bardu. The Rams hit the
road for a wild card matchup at the Carolina Panthers

(10:29):
on Saturday. The Rams are big favorites ten and a
half points without Davante Adams, who missed the final three
games of the season with a hamstring injury, but he
is expected to be ready to play on Saturday in
Charlotte Again. Rams twelve wins, twelve wins in a division.
You're upset about this man that sent three teams to

(10:51):
the playoffs, the NFC West. Well, you know you always top.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
They gotta go play a team that's eight and nine.
They gotta go to the.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Eastern SEABOARDY say, now, great, the NFL is I can't
believe they haven't heard what you're saying. This is terrible,
it's wrong with that. Can't believe they're doing.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Get me good? Hell now good?

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Hell?

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Now you know Lebron really did come back and wreck
the Lakers. They're twenty two and eleven and they're in
New Orleans tomorrow. They have won three of their last four.
But he did come back and wreck them.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well, he wrecks everything. He wrecked Taco Bell, he plays pizza.
He wrecked Blaze Pizza, he wrecked Barbershop Talk. He wrecked Tuesdays, Oh,
no doubt, he wrecked Tuesdays Big Time. He wrecked Kevin Hart,
he wrecked the NBA wrecked. The NBA wrecked the bubble.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Oh, no doubt wreck the bubble wrecked Anthony Davis, Poor
Anthony Davis, right wrecked his kid wrecked windhorse when he
said that guy's with my friend.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Old No Neck. What Raymond did to No Neck was
like a massage compared to what Lebron did to him
on the McAfee show. That wasn't cool, forgivable. The Clippers
are twelve and twenty two. They're coming back.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Warriors Big Home tonight versus the Warriors, Warriors Big. They've
won six in a row. They have well, they lost
the yesterday. Yeah, hey, all right, don't make me look stupid.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
I knew that.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
It's like, wait a minute, they just got beat by
like sixty. They were in it and then it got
bad real late. That brown guy scored like fifty.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
He's just gonna be the MVP. Errah Jalen's going to
be the MVP of this league.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
The NBA is going back to China next season because
nobody cares about the Wagers.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Oh no, I just noticed that that guy that Lawrence
Frank said was gonna make the difference, and that the
Clippers making a push for the playoffs is out again
and MCL's brain. Remember they said they didn't want to
trade their key pieces because once Derek J Junior came back.
So he is right here right now, not going to

(12:54):
be reevaluated for another six weeks. There's no other place
he'd rather be.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
You know where the world's went.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Make it up from history, Matt in China.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
That's where the Vegas.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
What about the Wigers.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
The NBA is going back to China to reap that
good money.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
I heard Darryl Morey is going to be the scouting party.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
They are set in the Rockets, Mavericks and Rockets playing
a pair of preseason games like a couple of dangling
balls out there in October at the gambling hub of Macow.
The games are like the preseason ones this season between
Brooklyn and Phoenix. They'll be played at Macow's Venetian Arena,

(13:35):
which is owned by the Sands Corporation. Frank Sinatra used
to drive his golf cart through the window at the
Sands pissed every once in a while.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
You know the connection there are the Sands, of course.
The COO Patrick Dumont is the governor of the Mavericks.
The Dumont family owns the Mavericks, hence the Mavericks being
one of the two teams along with the Rockets.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
And I heard they're going to let the Wiggers do
the uh be uh like chaperones around the stadium, which
will be cool.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Is that what they're gonna say? Yeah, I didn't hear.
That doesn't for Tito on the Rockets too, So she
got the Ftidas Fritite puts his teet in the Rockets,
and you got the Doomons all out there on Macau.
Gonna be sweet way to go. That's gonna be exciting.
And you know that lines up nice time timing wise, Matt,
we'll have a college football on Thursday. While we're doing

(14:26):
that game, I see your way into this, Semmy.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
We're gonna be talking about the semis while we're doing
talking about that game, while we're playing our own game
in our own style and dance with a great partner
at the BJS in Soritos from three to seven on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I don't think we could have asked for a better
semi final. Crystal Ball and his Cuban roots, pulling up
his bootstraps and making his way with Schnellenberger to the
freaking Miami Hurricanes only to take over as a head coach.
Get all misty eyed is he locked eyes with Jimmy
Johnson and thought about his path to that head coaching
moment there that big victory. What a beautiful moment for

(15:03):
all involved.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Ohio State had real trouble with Cubans all playoff long
for Fredi. Mendoza took him downs right, and then the
Cuban ethos in Miami they had like way more Cubans than.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Brothers Crystal Ball. I mean the Brothers Crystal Ball with
that weird looking quarterback of Theirs.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
You think Michael Irvin shows up to this game on
Thursday night unless he dies of a cocade overdose. I mean,
I don't know how much how much his heart exploded
before the game. He got too excited. If he waited,
he might just his head might blow up. Liking that
Dave Chappelle.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Show thing like Reanimator the portals open, Matt oh I
love the portal talk.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
It's opening and it's fully operational.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I'm afraid, especially when I had to keep track of
five thousand kids. The literally the.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Number one guy committed to Texas Tech Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Soresby,
who I.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Did see just see what their guy said, the the
Cody whatever his last name is the Texas Tech billionaire
who played there that it cuts all their checks.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
I believe his name is Boss Hogg. Oh what you
saw last year was us shit getting started. I got
the deepest bucks up. Well all right, man, I guess
you're getting sorts by Roco Back, who I like a
lot too, is following Matt Campbell from Iowa State to
Penn State. TCU's Josh Hoover is going to be a Hoosier,

(16:28):
picked Indiana as his destination and he's going to take
over for Cuban American Freddie Mendoza.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
I love that. Freddie Mendoza knows how to look right
into the camera like Ernie Kempton. Oh, the enthusiasm is incredible.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchi is going to Nebraska.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Oh he's a good dual threat guy. You know that
Kenny Minsche. Nebraska's back Matt Rule wins all the big games,
Yeah for sure.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
And what about USC what do we got? According to
a report from CBS Sports, five star freshman quarterback Hussan
Long Street has been in communication with USC that he's considering.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
I would hope he goes there. I would hope he's
in communication, perhaps entering the transfer portal, but no final
decision has been made. Hussan, Come on, man, just one
more year, one more year, and then it's all yours.
You're gonna have all this. But Lincoln, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (17:20):
They only win seven games and Lincoln Riley gets fired
and I'm still sitting here like, who's on Long Street?
With my junk in my hand. I'm not gonna get
as much money in the portal?

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Now what are we doing?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
That's a long ass street to walk down.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
That freaking Sorsbee guy got like six million bucks. Man
Soorsby is a huge baller, Man Soarsby. He's a big baller.
Who do we got soores Me? That's a who we
got him? You think we did something this year?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
We're going to getting started. Soorsby was like the tenth
highest paid guy just at Cincinnati last year. Now Cincinnati's like,
what do you want? He's don't you know, pump it up?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
You got to pump it up, don't you know?

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Pump it up? You got to pump it up.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Doc Tay Morre's gonna get like a billion dollars to
stay at Oregon. That is the number dollars. You don't
want to be a jet Dante every day come back.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Dante More rides his airboat on the Labbit up to
Orgon's practice, his chrome airboat.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Fernando, what can you say about your teammates? Oh man,
let me just tell you these guys, they've worked so hard.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
I got those darn gum freakin' Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
I'll tell you what you know. A lot of people
question my decision to come here, but I just I
love these guys so much. And the blessings of the Lord.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Another Hortensia, We'll be back.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
I love that guy.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
With Marpetro sand Money Jim Harbaugh coming up next.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Make AM five to seventy or your favorite AM five
seventy LA Sports podcast a preset on the iHeartRadio app
using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Road Trip all summer with LA Sports Metro saying money
A five seventy LA Sportslab everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
This weekend, we got playoff football Chargers at Patriots in
prime time kickoff five pm on KFI AM six forty.
A lot of football talk today, p and we keep

(19:19):
it going right here.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
When the wind is blowing and the snow is snowing,
and the New Year's here, and you know there's gonna
be some seriously impactful NFL football being played and men
leading those teams, Men like our friend, the head coach
food of the Los Angeles Chargers, the one and only
Jim Harbaugh, longtime friend of the Pettersen Money Show all

(19:41):
the way back.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
To when he was coaching at USD.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
That's right, going been a winner everywhere he goes, and
deep down in his DNA and the marrow of his bones,
he is a football man.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
And it's been a.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Remarkable season for the Chargers, overcoming a lot of adversity. Dodgeorge.
Of course, this is a big game. You are on
the call, kickoff at five on k f I AM
six forty on Sunday on the Southern California Toyo to
do a celebrity highline, the great Jim Harbaugh once again.
Last time we talked to him, I think it was
after the Dodgers won the World Series on the Petros

(20:14):
and Money Show. Thanks so much for doing it today.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Coach, how are you.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Hey? Good? Good to talk to you, petros Hey Money, Hey.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
It's great to be together on this beautiful New Year's
a month and getting ready for playoff football. Just when
you think about the adversity, your team has overcome a
lot of teams overcome adversity. That's kind of what football
is all about. But this year was pretty remarkable amount
of adversity. Coach, when you think back, how proud are
you of the guys and and how does that kind

(20:44):
of solidify them going forward into what is going to
be a tough matchup.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
Oh, we've been like the mentality of the team, it's,
you know, just win the next game. And that's that's
that's been our guys focus the entire time. And it's yeah,
it's hard, it's it's tough. Uh, it's unforgiving. That's that's
the NFL. We just summed up the entire NFL. And

(21:08):
you know that's what makes it so meaningful. Uh, you know,
to be in this position and and we're, as you
would expect, attacking it with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
That's right, You've you've been through it as a player. Uh,
you've been through it many times. As a coach. Uh,
you always hear about the playoffs obviously, you know it's
it's win or go home. What is different? What if
you can put it into words, what what's different about
the postseason than the regular season. If there are any
differences in these games?

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Coach? Uh, yeah, I think there are. You know, it's uh,
there's a every game. You know, every game is big
in the NFL. It Uh, I've I felt it, uh
each year even more like practically the way uh, you know,
the way every team prepares for every game, the way
way the networks prepare for him, the graphics, the uh,

(21:57):
the crowds. Uh, it's I mean every game, you know,
in the regular season feels like a playoff game, and
when you're in the playoffs, it is a playoff game. Uh.
So it's it's uh, it's even it's it's even more.
You know, it's like, uh, there's that spinal tap. Un

(22:20):
it's all the way to eleven, it's eleven out of ten.
When you get to the playoffs, it's ten out of ten,
and then it's eleven out of ten.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
There we go. When you go, you've been good on
the road this year. This seams in very Actually I
think I think best are tied for the best record
road record in the league. What's is there a secret
to that? Is there something to you know, what you
need to do to overcome the adversity of playing a
road game and get out with a victory?

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Uh yeah, I think I think there's a lot of things, uh,
you know to go into it. And you know, being good,
just being playing good football. Uh, you know that's what
you hope for. You hope to play play good. So
you prepare for every every week and uh case and
hope you play your best and uh and prepare for that.

(23:02):
Probably number one on the list they'll pack the defense
for a road game and uh and we've done a
good job doing that. And so that's that's that's the
mindset is, you know, win the next game, prepare for
it mentally physically.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
You don't get ready for football fight and uh you
know that's what it's going to be. And uh we've
all seen enough of playoff football and in New England,
you know what that's going to be. Like. Everybody's uh,
everybody's focusing and preparation will be on playing good.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Everybody likes to pack their defense and that special defensive
Duffel back that every NFL not every NFL team has.
The great Jim Harbaugh joining us right now on the
Patches of Money show on m FI seventy l A Sports,
We've got the Chargers Pats Sunday AM six, forty KFI
kickoff is a five.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
I know people ask you about it all the time,
every time you're talking to anybody publicly, But what can
you say about the performance of your quarterback this year?

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Justin Herbert?

Speaker 3 (24:05):
I think he had his best year as a pro
because I think he had overcome the most this year. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
I know they're a lot of worthy MVP candidates out there,
but Justine Herbert certainly certainly won. I mean every week
he but see, he does anything and everything possible for
us to be successful and to win. It's a there's

(24:33):
a will there, there's a competitiveness there, there's a extraordinary talent.
But when he's talking about guys being team guys at
the at the highest level, I would categorize that for
Justin Herbert, coach.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
When you mentioned you get ready for the Patriots, they
got seventeen games, you can you can go through kind
of like where where do you start? What do you
what do you do to get ready for a team
that has played, you know, a full slate, a full
season of NFL football. What is it that that you
want to dig into, that you want to that that
helps you prepare for your opponent this coming Sunday night.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yeah, well at everything, you look at all at everything,
the I mean the latest, the healthiest, uh tape and
then you're you're you're going backwards, but uh, but you
look at them all. I mean, well, uh, we'll present
it all to the to the team, you know, even
if it was just one time you know they did this,

(25:39):
or one time they did that, or uh, you know
they did this, however many times they did it, you know, uh,
or expose our guys to it and and uh you know,
put put our put our best plan together and then
get the guys to you know, understand it and their
input of the bay you know, extreme valuable as well.

(26:01):
I mean it always is. Uh, it's a process, you know,
and uh everybody, Uh it's cool though what everybody's focused
on it. Everybody is uh you know, that's you know,
the mission is to to go play good and in
the win.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Well, everybody's got their own rituals and everybody's got their
own compulsions. Coach Matt Smith, the voice of the Chargers,
wore his Huts uniform in here today and he's been
running around and throwing throwing himself against the wall and
and uh doing you know, doing a quarter turns in
a football position. You know, he's getting getting all riled up.

(26:39):
How do you keep You're such an intense guy, and
you've played, you've played and coached in so many big games.
How do you keep yourself calm? Because you know this,
this game is not gonna be till Sunday night. I
mean we're we're six and a half days away.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Yeah, I mean it's uh, it's there's uh, there's muscle memory, there,
there's there's there's experience. Uh, and you just you go
through the process. Uh game camping played till Sunday night.
So you try to use every every hour, every day,
you know that every mint to put yourself in the

(27:15):
best position to be successful.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Coach, I know you want to come out of every game,
you know, with a win. But but yesterday just kind
of the way you chose to approach that game. It's
not names that maybe a lot of people listening would recognize.
But you know, what did you take away from seeing
you know, reps from Marlow wax from from Andre James
at center, Trevor Penning at at gark kind of what
can you get out of that game with? Because it
certainly felt like there were some inspired performances out there

(27:39):
on the field.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yeah. I thought everybody did a did a really good
job season the opportunity of playing they played, they play fast,
they played physical. Uh, they you know, there's just there
was a lot of good and it was it was
recognized as it and it bodes well for us, you know,
going going forward that uh there's a there's this person

(28:05):
belongs you know, and uh and and can help us,
you know, and and uh whether that's in a in
a in a specific role as we as we move forward,
but that uh, and the overriding thing over arching is uh. Yeah,
I thought nobody shot away from that opportunity and seized it.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
How much fun is it to coach that rookie running
back O Marion Hampton. We we had him on the
radio before camp started, and man, he was impressive in
person and he has really looked the part this year.
How much different does he make the offense was he
when he's in there?

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Yeah, it's been it's been a real pleasure to the
coach of Marion uh and and to have him on
our team. Competitors welcome. We talk about that and playmakers.
Competitors and playmakers and he's both. Uh anove of the
way he goes about his business. We talk about the
personality or the person that's a man. A few were

(29:00):
because they got place of to be, people to see,
things to do.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Yeah, that's that's the way of Marion approaches.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
It takes care of his business. Last fan, big fam.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Last one for you, coach uh twenty seven eighty seven
was the amount of rushing yards you amassed. It's a
big story around the social media, of course, the video
that the NFL films is circulating. That's five or nine
more yards than bo Jackson had in.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
His career one thousand and seven and eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
How about that?

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Well, I mean I know he ran that's a lot
of yard. That's some Frank Tarkington yard.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Do you think do you think I have out there?

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Hey, Pane, feel free to spread the word on that, hopefully,
like you got to keep that to yourself. Yeah, kind
of get the word out.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
And I see you jogging to the tunnel. I don't
see that two thousand anymore. But I mean, but I
don't I remember it. I remember it.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, I can, I could. I could scoot a little bit.
I didn't rely on finesse or a lot of fancy
foot work. It was more just kind of moving through people.
But and I'm sure those those yards I've seen a
lot of bo Jackson highlights, has looked a lot better.

(30:11):
But yeah, that's it's kind of cool. And I had
the video was really cool too, with the coaches and
their reaction, and that was even though it's early January.
I think I'm pretty sure I found my favorite video
of the year.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Oh yeah, twenty seven eighty seven real quick on the
way out, coach. Do you know how many rushing touchdowns
you had in your career?

Speaker 4 (30:35):
I think fourteen?

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Eighteen? Wow, eighteen exactly.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
I slided myself.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
You want fourteen, So that's a whole football offense. God
bless you, coach, and good luck have a safe trip
out there, and thanks so much for everything you do
for the show. Every year you come on a few
times and it always brightens up everybody's day. Thanks a lot, coach,
Happy New Year.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Thank you both for everything that you do for the
game of football, for sports, for uh everyband, our community.
You get you can you just stay here through the
you know, just your just your boys. It gets it
gets me fired up. I know it does everybody else.
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Well, Matt's all riled up. You've got that hotch on,

Speaker 2 (33:18):
So very excited about that, very excited about that. They've
come on.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
They have since they haven't had us ridiculing them and
making us feel making them feel bad.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
About themselves. We're bad guys because they don't have that.
They've been able to gain some self confidence and they
don't have that freaking trader, that mole Chris Paul. Now
things can finally flourish. You see, you see what happens.
You see months later, after we get rid of Chris Paul,

(33:47):
we're gonna win a few. All right, Matt, you love art?
I do, so let I know you do cultured show
here I know well, I know you love art, so
let's celebrate and you love saying things in French. We
will sell you today. Eve tong Gee a Frenchman from Paris,

(34:07):
surrealist painter, and we are your surrealist show off record,
not even close. When everyone else had Ansel Adams posters
in their dorm room, Matt mney Smith had Dali at
Pepperdine and yes, Eve's work is similar. Son of a
French navy captain, his dad died when he was young,

(34:27):
raised by a series of relatives, was briefly a navy
man and then army. He was inspired by the Italian
artist another surrealist, Giorgio de Shiriko, and became a painter
and the famous Jacques Prevaire.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
This is good surrealism music right here. This is actually
this really kind of sets you off a little bit.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
This is surrealist composition from the early twent a century,
which was cultivated in the same circle of friends with
our friend Eve tom Ye Preverre's the guy that put
him on. He introduced him into the circles of art,
meeting surrealists and especially Andre Breton Oh who commissioned him

(35:20):
for a lot of years kept him going. He kept
a bohemian lifestyle and embraced it, which ended his first marriage.
He had an intense affair with Peggy Gugenheim.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Oh Peg. Yeah. He was known for his.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Vast abstract landscapes and abstract shapes. His second wife, who
he left Peggy Guggenheim for, was the surrealist k Sage,
who threatened him with a knife. He threatened with a
knife in public on multiple occasions. They both drank heavily.

(35:56):
It's a different time. You could do that back then. Yeah,
you could threaten your wife with a knife in public.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
People would be like, oh, I have another drink man
and eye he doesn't get wild when he drinks a bit.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Crazy artist friends. They both drank heavily. He died of
a stroke in the fifties. His most famous paintings Indefinite
Divisibility from nineteen forty two nineteen twenty sevens Mama Papa
is wounded.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
No, give you a horns for that one.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
Actually, I have a few titles if you want to contribute, Matt.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
I'm looking at in Infinite Divisibility right now.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
That's a very famous painting. Yeah, that's uh yeah, feel
free to react with the machine.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Okay. I came as I promised, Adieu, adieu, adieu to
ye and yeah and yeah.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Extinction of useless lives, the furniture of time. There the
health has not ceased yet. Man from pale hands and

(37:08):
weary skies.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Shuh eve tong gee. Well, an artist as well, will
double up on artists here, Yeah, Theodore William Lang the
Third like.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
A sculptor, painter, Matt shakespearean actor. All right, well that's
not okay. We can't double up painters on people. Shakespearean'd
have to leave. We'd have to take that to Michaels.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Theodore William Lang the Third is Ted Lang. He is
Isaac the Bartender, Oh for real, for real, The Love Boat,
the Black Eye, black guy with the afro with the afrow.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Isaac born in Oakland the Red Jacket. Both parents in
theater and on TV. Father was an actor, a stage
actorly Yes. Mother was the assistant to the Mayor of
San Francisco and ran the CBS outlet in San Francisco.
So brought up in a family of entertainment. He went

(38:18):
to Oakland Tech High School.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
For the honor of Crown.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
He was an art kid.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Oakland Tech is that Marshall Lynch.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
He was the asb president. He starred in all the
school plays, and he took a long road to fame. Okay,
it was not Yale, it was freaking Merritt Junior College,
San Francisco City College earned us.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
That's where Desi Bishop. Desi Bishop came from San Francisco
City College.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Matt He earned a scholarship to the University of Colorado
Shakespearean Festival in the summer of sixty eight. Standout performer
earned him a return ticket to California and the New
Shakespearean Company at cal Berkeley. Oh j went to San
Francisco City colle More.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
It's more popular than around us. The same time as
Isaac do Isaac's weapon of choice, double guy. Yeah, he
would have shot those. He would have shot those dugs,
would have shot up that hotels done right.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
He landed a role in Hair on Broadway, was part
of that touring group that went national. His first film,
Big Show. I believe you did this. If not, I
believe it must be done. His first film was Black
Belt Jones.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
Have we done it?

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Cleo Patrick Jones? Right, we've not done black.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
That might be time to dig up black Belt Jones. Oh,
it's time because that was his first film.

Speaker 4 (39:44):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
He then starred on ABC's for two seasons That's My Mama,
twenty nine episodes. Hey, Ted, I heard you land in
the show. What'd you get That's My Mama? Yeah, it's not.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
The didn't get the traction of good times, but we
still talk about it in the leagues.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Today, right, And what it did was land him the
role as Isaac. He was one of the three actors
that appeared in every single episode, two hundred and fifty
of them over nine seasons.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
If you went to Oakland Tech and you see Isaac Tennenbar,
You're like, you know, I can see that guy was
the ASB president. He was very popular guy. Looking how
he's making a conversation.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Look at that. Him, Stooping and Doc were the only
three that were in every single episode.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
So Doc showed up and he got serious. Something was
somebody was sick.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Well that's when you think about it, right, You need
the captain. He's freak captain of the ship. So he
needs Stooping. Someone's always got a face adversity's he need
the doctor. You gotta have Booze. Gotta have booze. Gotta
get people looped up so they do stupid stuff on
the Crew's what I was doing here. He was director
for a number of the episode screenwriter for a bunch
as well. When it came to an end in eighty eight,

(40:49):
he started making The Rounds, Family Matters, Boy Meets World,
Drake and Josh King of Queen Scrubs, The Hughleys directed
on the TV The Hughleys. He did five episodes of Moesha,
same with THEO and then he partnered with Byron Allen's
Entertainment Studios and the pair put out First Family and

(41:11):
Mister Box Office, two shows that well they were shows
and they were in.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Not we don't remember those as well.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
No.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
He most recently did a cameo on that Real Love
Boat reality show on CBS that did not well.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
I don't think I ever left Port de criminal bartender there.
You guys don't know because you're too young.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
Married twice, a couple of kids. By all accounts, seems
like a good dude. It sounds like Ted Lane, Oakland Royalty, right,
Oakland Tech.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
We'll be right back to city s s FCC, Like
Joe a ub a quarterback in cal Then nobody people
remember as much as that's my mama.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Yeah, that's my mama.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Jesus Clippers Warriors Adam Aucelin, a team that perhaps will
reach five hundred by seasons.

Speaker 4 (42:06):
