Speaker 1 (00:01):
Boom, boom boom. All right, here we going hello once
again from Dodger Stadium, Fred Rogan Rodney Peat on a
five seventy LA Sports Game two of the Wild Card.
We're back in the Sweet Sweet two twenty five. Yes,
come on by. Oh wait, no, you can't come by.
Can't come back. Okay, you can't come by. You can try,
but you can't come by. The gates are not even
(00:21):
open yet. Because we are fortunate, we we're the only
people allowed in here right now. I mean there's really
nobody here about us.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Us and the UH staff, the maintenance staff, the concession staff,
everybody getting ready for the game.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Those are the only people that are here right And
I looked down at the field. Now, yesterday, at this time,
there was a lot of activity going on on the field. Yeah,
today you got one guy with a hose and somebody
driving around on a tractor and that's it. Isn't that
interesting because it's the same game time, same game time.
I mean, yesterday I used to it maybe because it
was the first game of the series.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
You know, they got to get ready for it, and
now second game they're kind of already into it, and
it's all fine.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
They didn't. They don't have to repaint the.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Postseason, and they don't have to do a lot of
things that they already did. So it's a it's a
little bit later start start time for I think the
whole crew.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
We'll see if the Reds were out here around one
o'clock walking around without their shoes on, because that looked
real well for me yesterday. Oh, Fred, that was a
really good reality. I hope they all come out, lay
down and get that sun because it's the last time
they'll see song called.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
It though, Fred, you're gonna make quick work of the Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Red You called it. Well, Look, the Reds are happy
to be here. Although if you check their instagram today,
so before the series began, if you checked their instagram,
come on, boys, we're proud of you. You guys, good
luck to you were wishing you well. You know it's
been a great season, and go get them. After last
night is Dodgers suck. They spend all the money. What
(01:51):
do you expect? We hate the Dodgers, So they churned
they they turned out a dime. Basically, the fans in Cincinnati,
they went to the money route. They went the money
you bought the team and oh you should win and
all because you spend all that money. No reason, that's
the reason why you beat us. Yeah, that's the reason. No,
I'll tell you the reason. The reason was Hunter Green
(02:13):
from Notre Dame High School. Here, good kid, great kid,
big start, probably the biggest of his career, playoff game
at Dodger Stadium, comes home. We talked about this yesterday.
He's either going to be really good or it's going
to hold onto your hat time. And what happened was, Oh,
Tony got him first at bat of the game, and Rodney,
(02:37):
I think at that point he was done.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah, I think that really affected him. Look he did,
and I said it, he gonna top out it one
hundred and two hundred and three and he ate a
couple of them at that rate. But I think when
you you know as a pitcher, and everybody tells you
that from the pitching coaches and the manager from the
time you're playing little league, you know, get that got
(03:00):
to get that first out. And when Otani went deep
on him to start the game, there's a there's a
level of psyche that enters your body that you don't
you it's involuntary, you can't help it. It's like, oh
my god, my my main objected. I'm sure he was
thinking about this before the game. I got to get
(03:23):
off to a good start. And also I can't let
Otani get it going. I can't let him start the
game with a home run. I guarantee you that was
in the back of his mind. And sure enough Otani
got him. And I don't think he was the same
after that.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Fred No one batter, Yeah, and then Edmund got him,
Tao got him. Dodgers hit the ball really well last night, Yeah,
they did. And if you were here and you were
sitting back, I have this tendency whenever one of the
Dodgers does something, hits a home runner or anything, I
just started laughing every time. I just starting why do
you start laughing? Because it's like, see, this is what
(04:01):
you're gonna get tonight, this is what you're gonna feel tonight.
And I just laugh and I'm thinking watching this, Oh,
this is great. Snell looks good. He's cruising along. They've
got a giant lead, and you're thinking this is gonna
be over fast. Yeah, and and and the other guys.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
I mean, look, ti Oscar two home runs, so tany
two home runs?
Speaker 1 (04:23):
But and that overshadowed.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Freddie had an almost home run, had a double and
bounce over the fence. Mookie had, you know, a good night.
Other guys had good nights. But man, uh, you know,
five home runs in the opening series has gotta be
the demoralizing for Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Ritz And that was the only game yesterday that went
that way. The other games were like online games. Yeah, yeah,
all right, So you're thinking, in our text string, what
did I say. I said, they just put everybody on notice.
Yeah they did. You were one hundred percent right when
you said that. Yeah, okay. So you're sitting wherever you're
watching or listening. You may be listening to the game
here in the radio station, and you're kind of chuckling
(05:02):
and Okay, this will be over tomorrow, no problem, And
all of a sudden, all of a sudden, it's like,
oh my god.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
No.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
So when you have a lead like that and you
give up a run or two, you're thinking, I were fine,
We're okay. But then when it continues, I have to
tell you I thought they would win because the lead
was insurmountable. Yeah, but oh my god, to see that
with the bullpen last night.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
What if it was like six to nothing right when
it Snell went out of the game.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
If it's six nothing and Snell goes out of the game,
tell me what you think. Six nothing, Snell's out. You're
sitting there thinking, we're good. I was good. You were
get that right? Yeah, well I think he gave up
a run. Right, it was six too. It would be
say six to one. Fine, you're thinking, we're fine, let's
get out. Good.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
He goes seven. He goes seven, complete seven. So now
you got two innings. You're up six to one.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I need six outs. I'm good, We're good. And then
oh no, it was like it was a prophecy. Oh no,
and you're sitting there watching Vesia comes in and he's
your high leverage guy, but you'll put him in a
low leverage situation.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
We both talked about as that's the first guy that
we trust bring in Vessia as the high leverage guy,
because he has been the guy, and he's been the
most consistent, and if there is a situation like that,
that's who you trust to bring in for a high
leverage And he came.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
In and no, let's just put it like this. No.
And then we sat here yesterday and talked about Enriquez. Oh,
you know he can throw. Yeah, I feel good putting
him in the game. Let's get him out, Let's get
him out there. He goes out there and it's like,
oh my god. No. So now, if you're watching on
television and you're you're sitting back and thinking, what the
(06:56):
hell is happening here? They're taking shots to Dave robertson
the dugout and I thought he was going to explode
his face. He couldn't figure out what was going on
or why. It's like, why is this happening to me?
Why are you doing this to me? I think it
was it was personal with him, Why are you killing
me like this? It took an otherwise dominant Dodger, complete
(07:22):
Dodger performance for seven innings, complete like okay, this that's
why I said that that that other teams aren't noticed.
But this is what everybody else feared, that not only
the Dodgers the best team in baseball, but they can
impose their will. They had Blake Snell that was dominant
(07:42):
for seven innings, and then the bats came alive. They're
hitting home runs, they're hitting doubles, they're they're getting guys
on base scoring runs. I mean, it's it's insurmountable for
anybody else. And you're like, it's this is the Dodgers
that we thought at the beginning of the season. Now
they're everybody healthy. This is see, this is what you get.
And then ready, then no lead is safe. That's what happened.
(08:06):
So now now you're really tense. But you know, Dryer
gets out of the inning. Okay, now all you need
is three outs. That's it. Three outs and let's go home.
And here comes Trying. I think we can all agree.
Now he's not the guy he was last year. Is
(08:28):
that fair? Oh yeah, okay, definitely, but he's what you got, right,
But he's not the guy he was. So he goes
out there and it becomes an adventure and you're sitting
there going this cannot this can't happen. So they get
out of it, they win, and it's over. So they
(08:50):
get the first one. But it was not reason to celebrate, no, no,
I mean you think about that.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
In a game like that, where Snell is as he is,
he gets you through seven, You're like, okay, I can get.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Out of this game with minimal arms.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Minimal I mean Snell plus two guys, tops, I can
get out of this game.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
And what happens? What did they use five?
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I mean, it's why why we have to use these
guys when we shouldn't have to use them. We could
save everybody and have everybody ready for today or the
next day if necessary. But they had to utilize more guys,
I'm sure than they wanted to, because again, what we've
seen all season long is no.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Lead is safe. So yesterday Andrew Friedman was on the show.
He was on at one thirty. Don't know if you
had a chance to hear it. So we're gonna play
a little bit for you now, and we asked him
about the bullpen situation. See, because we were kicking around,
all right, somebody goes six, we go to the pen.
Can't shean come in and close the game? Go three?
And he's a starter? Why can't he just?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Yeah, I think that's on the table. I think there's
a lot of different ways we can go. And the
point is there's a lot of talent out there, and
so game score, situation, all that will factor in. But
I could definitely see a scenario where that happens.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay, can we just be honest with each other? Now
going forward, that is the scenario. That's it, because he
warmed up. They got him up, yes they did. Yeah,
it was so bad that all of a sudden he
was up throwing. Yeah. And let me ask you, if
he's up throwing, then why don't you just let him
(10:35):
go in earlier and finish shit?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Because I think because of the score, I think they're thinking,
if we don't have to use him, let's not use them,
and goes to what I was saying before, let's get
out of here with minimal arms and we're up ten
to one, why we don't need to We don't need
to expose immit Chian right now, because let's it's saving
(11:04):
for when we.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Really need him.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
And it got to the point where they had to
get them up and start throwing because you know, bases loaded,
it's ten to five bases loaded with one out grand slam,
it's a one run game, you know, And that was
my fear.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
We talked about what's what's the leading save?
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Went to you know three, No, No, you gotta be
it's got to be safe enough that a grand Slam
doesn't beat you or tell you.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
And it almost got to that point. It did. It
was it was scary, and I think last year when
the Dodgers had problems with their starting pitching, they came
up with a plan. It was brilliant. Give Dave Roberts
a ton of credit for this. We're just gonna have
bullpen games in the World Series and win. That was
(11:52):
unheard of. It wasn't like they had one bullpen game. Okay,
So this year it's a different story. This year, the
starters are great, They're exactly where they should be, but
the bullpen is a real problem. You need to now
rethink again. You need to. Last year you did something
nobody did and it worked. So maybe this year now
(12:16):
going forward, given what you're seeing, you rethink it again
and go all right, this is what we have to do. Now.
We've got to get class now or Shan at least
in this series up and ready in case there's no more. Enriquez,
followed by Vessia, followed by Jack Dryer, followed by Tryning.
(12:41):
I have to be honest with you, I really was
worried when Trinan was in the game of the ninth inning. Yeah. Really,
we didn't think of that last year, did you? You
wanted him in the game. Yes, I was very concerned
when that happened. Let's eliminate that problem. Okay, So here's
the deal. How do you eliminate that problem?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
I mean, Blake Snell was dealing and you looked up
and he's I think he started maybe started that seventh
any he was only at seventy eight or seventy nine pitches,
ended up with ninety one pitches. And I know you
got that kind of lead because I think, what do
you come out in eight to two, ten to two,
(13:22):
whatever it was eight to two, but he's at ninety pitches,
ninety one pitches in that moment. Do you, if you're
Dave Roberts or now going forward after you saw what
happened last night, y'all, Momoto goes today, y'all, Momoto's got
a good pitch count, and it he finishes seven like
(13:42):
Blake did last night, do you have reason to say,
trot him back out for the eighth, let him keep
going until we get into the ninth, and we absolutely
can just close this thing out.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
We don't need him anymore.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Or do you do the same scenario as you did
last night with blake'snew well with only ninety one pitches,
he got through seven innings.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Do you let him come out in the eighth and
just keep going? All right, Well, here's the thing to consider.
Let's say he goes eight. Now we're gonna bring somebody
in to close it. Who's to somebody? Who's to somebody
to close it? If he goes yeah, but you eliminate
the two innings as opposed to now you're gonna go
(14:23):
one inning. Right, But I think if I'm gonna bring
Shan in or Glass now, I think I'd rather have
him go longer. Yeah, So here's my quess. My question.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Then that's what I'm getting to is if you're gonna
pull like last night they pulled Snell at the end
of seven, right right, and he had ninety one pitches,
which I thought he could, you know, he was. He
kind of got hit a little bit in that seventh inning,
you know, gave up a couple of runs.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
But if you're gonna let him go, you let him go.
If you're gonna pull.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Him, then yes, I'm thinking Glass now and shan't see it,
you know.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
If you're thinking, okay, I'm I'm gonna pull them early,
I'm gonna pull him off to step. But if you're
gonna let him go to the ninth. Then you don't
bring those guys in, you know, seeing her glass now
in the ninth inn he.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Okay with that leads right, but that leads to this.
It's a two run game of the ninth. You've let
him go eight. Who's coming in? You see what I'm saying.
I think I'd rather err on the side of give
me a good six, give me a good six, and
let me bring this guy in and he goes the
(15:35):
distance and we leave. We're done, we get out of here.
I think the danger now is who is going to
come in in the ninth? Yeah, who is that person?
I'd rather have somebody go longer. Then it all comes
down to this, because that person doesn't exist at this time.
(15:56):
That's the concern. So let a guy go six, go,
get s in, come on in.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
If it's the sixth and you're you're pulling a guy
after six, say Yama Moto goes six for you?
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Okay, then yeah, I'm with you. Go she in or glass.
Now let them go and you can let them go
finish the game. They finished the game. They finished the game.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
But if you let Yamamoto go to the ninth, who
I don't know who you go to, But I don't
know if you go to Shean or Glass now just
to close it in the ninth for one inning, I
don't think you do. Yeah, you want those guys to extend.
If they got to go two three innings, that's the
guys you want to bring in, right if it's the
sixth or seventh inning. But if it's the ninth and
(16:37):
all you need is three outs? Who why you I
wouldn't expose those guys to that.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I wouldn't either, So it comes down to who who
is it? Is it Suzaki? Are you gonna put him
out there in the ninth inning to save the game?
You run game? Yeah? Yeah, you're gonna put him out
there too, or one run game because you know, you know,
if he comes out and he starts strong, they won't
even see the ball.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
No, But again, there's that what we've seen, right, You
can be erratic, right, it could walk to and give
up base it and next thing you know is game's tied.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
I don't know if Sazaki is ready for that high
leverage situation, which is why it would almost been nice
to see him last night. You know, when they pulled
Blake last night It would have been cool to see
him and let him finish it.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Let's see what he's gone.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
It's it's it's you know, no pressure, no pressure because
you got eight run lead, so let him go to
two innings to finish the game. You know, instead of
you know, doing how many how many they throw? Four
guys came out after Blake Snell. You know it should
be just one or two guys come after Blake Snell.
But that was a situation. I think you could probably
(17:52):
use Sazaki. Just let him go. This is what it's
gonna look like going forward. You're gonna come in in
the eighth and if you'd if it all goes well,
you're gonna go to ninth and just close it out.
That would have been a perfect situation last night for
SSUs Zaka to come in.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, actually that would have been. Yeah, let's see what
you got. Settle in and got a lead, get your
feet wet. You know, the crowd is gigantic. It's the playoffs.
Just feel it, get out there tight and feel it.
No limits. You do well, you're going back in the night.
You know. If it doesn't go so well, you know
you felt it. You understand what the pressure's like, and
(18:29):
you know, say he gives up two runs and his
little erratic in the eighth, then you know, you go
to somebody else. But if he's good in the eighth,
you let him go back in the night and just
see if he can close it out and then you
learn something, right, because we did learn something last night.
No lead is safe. That's what we learned last night.
No lead is safe. And they definitely have to come
(18:54):
up with an answer. I mean, I feel Andrew Frieman
said yesterday, Rodney, this is you know, this is a
loss of confidence. Yeah, this is a loss of confidence.
That's what it is. It's our job to give them
the confidence. Okay, maybe the job of the Dodgers should
be to give us the fans the confidence. Because I've
got to tell you, if you think is the job
(19:16):
of the Dodgers to give the fans the confidence, I
need the confidence. I demand the confidence. So they have
to provide that for us. Okay, Okay, I didn't know
that was part of the job. It is, you heard
Andrew Friedman yesterday. We're assistant general manager. Yes, yes, we
love the fans, and we love the fans, so we
have to speak for the fans. We will have more
(19:36):
throughout the day here from Dodger Stadium, Game two to
give it away tickets. You know why we're not. You
know why we're not because it's going to close out today.
That's right. Okay, Oh I told you that. I'm not
worried about that. It's checking. It's chicken. You know that.
Everybody people were asking you, guys giving away tickets today. No,
because it's going to be closed out today, Yes it will.
(19:57):
You know. Just look, we got somebody walk in the
field Dodger. But he's got flip flops on, right, No
bare feet, flip flops. That's right. It's a difference. They
get it. These people from Here's the thing with the
rats from yesterday. Let's just be honest. You know, they're
in Middle America. They don't know the beach. They internet
and they come here. You know, it's sunny, it's a
(20:17):
different field, they're in the big stadium, they're playing in
the playoffs. They're just happy to be here. They just
have I'm sure they took a ton of pictures. Oh,
it came out early and went to uh what they
went to Newport, Manhattan, Beach, Malibu or whatever. They're just
check it did that. I'm playing a little ball tonight.
(20:38):
Get out there. Kill them. By the way, my friend
Manny Manny is the manager at Javiers in Newport. You've
been to Viers, I'm not. Oh my god, you've never
been to And it's now in downtown l A by
the Crypt. And he sent me Javier's if you've never
been there. They're not a sponsor. They're not paying us
(20:58):
to say this. That might be the best Mexican food
in southern California. It is barely tacular. I gotta get there.
You've got to go to I love Mexican food. He
sent me a picture yesterday of him standing next to
La de la Cruz. Oh, yeah, yeah, And I said,
when was that taken hour for the game? No, it
was earlier in the year, it was, he goes. They Yeah,
(21:19):
they came in earlier in the year and came down here,
and he said, always keep your enemies close.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Wait, so they he went. It was he went to
the Newport restaurant, the Newport. No, it was a Newport
but it was earlier in the year. Okay, it was
earlier in the year. It's still a travel you know.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
He playing the air in La travel down for dinner
at Hobbiers in Newport. That's a that's a that's a trick.
It is. But yeah, how would you know if you're
not from La worth it you don't even know, That's
what I'm saying. The Red Sid they don't know. Babber
set them up. They had two hour drive back and
forth and uh, yeah, you'll be ready to go for
(21:57):
the game tonight. All right. Oh did you wish Craig
happy birthday any ear? Oh?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Yesterday we did, but today is his actual birthday. Craig
happy birthday?
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Yeah, Craig, seriously, seriously, you're gonna take off your shirt
and flex again? Oh no, thank you, No, none of
us need to see that. Okay, So Dave Roberts took
Blake Snell out. There was another game last night, and
both Kevin and Rodney were confused about a decision that
(22:26):
one of the managers made. Will talk about that, and also,
I haven't told anybody this. When we come back, I'm
going to talk about the jersey I'm wearing. There is
a mystery, a mystery surrounding the jersey I'm wearing today,
and we will discuss it. Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete live
from Dodgers Stadium on a five to seven E LA Sports.
(22:49):
Oh remember this from the Grammys Fred the Grammy Museum.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
We heard the song. We did a show from the
Grammy Museum back in the day. Yeah we did, Yeah,
we did. Yeah, we did them back we had. We
are live at Dodgers Stadium, Game two of the wild
Card Series. A little bit different today than it was yesterday,
very different today. Yesterday there was more energy out here,
(23:14):
more more getting ready for Game one, right, and today
really there are a few people on the field.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
The grounds crew isn't as much. Yeah. Now a couple
of the Reds are starting to walk out. There's a
guy with two bags of balls. Yeah, well, well what
he should do? Honestly, no, no, what he should do?
And you know what, I don't want to yell at
because it would be you know, im polite. Why didn't
he just take those and put them on the bus
because they're going back to Why are you putting them there?
(23:44):
You just rolled three or four balls out there and
just start packing up, back it up right now, there's
no reason to be here over Hey, I got to
tell you Blake Snell was dominant last night the way
Yamamotos pitched the last month, I think more. Yeah, oh yeah,
oh yeah. You know the only difference is now, which
(24:06):
they must have mentioned it every time Dela Cruz came up.
He's better from the left side. He's better from the
left side.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
And uh, you know the fact that Blake Snell was
pitching to him the right's side is not his strength.
So you know, expect more out of Ellie Deda Cruz
tonight because he's hitting left handed against Yammoto.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
So they're going to have one guy that can hit.
Is that that means? That's what it means. Last night
they really had no one that could hit until you know,
the flood gates open til the bubble came out. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
I was thinking about this when we were in the break,
you know, we talked about the bullpen and how the
struggles have been for the last two months of the season.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Yeah. God, you remember when that bullpen gate used to
open for my man Pedro. Oh, I was thinking that
it's almost like that again, right, they don't boo because
they don't know who's coming out.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
We you know, back then, and it was very isolated.
It was Pedro and then Kinley, it was Pedro then
kill it was very you know, it wasn't like a
mortgage borg of different relievers coming out of that pin.
If he got to the eighth inning or the seventh
inning with two outs or whatever, Pedro bias would come in,
try to set it up for Kinley. And when that
(25:21):
gate opened for Pedro, it's at that. You know, once
he was going through that bad streak and the booze start,
I felt so bad.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
But it's almost like that now. But here's surprised that
there's not the boozy when that gate opens. Now here's
the difference. There is one major difference. Now when that
gate opens. Yeah, people in this stadium are so completely terrified.
They can't make a sound. That's why there's no bullet.
They can't even they can barely breathe if it's like
(25:50):
they're gasping for air. If that gate opens, people, oh god,
it can't you can't even talk. No, don't do it. No,
you know, whatever you're doing, don't do that. All right now,
I want to tell you the mystery of this jersey. Okay, okay,
so this I know that jersey, all right.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I recognized that jersey because we were there at the
same time.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Right. So this is the Japanese cherry blossoms jersey, right,
the Tokyo series, the Dodger jerseys where they had the
cherry blossoms on it. Correct. And I have a rule
that I never wear another man's name on my back. Right. Yes,
we've talked about it and at NASEI what does this say?
O tani ok seventeen? So now I violated my own rule,
(26:35):
Yes you did. I wore this today because there was
a mystery behind this jersey. Oh yes, really, yes, so
much so Dave Weeice is running around back there, maybe
he'd remember the mystery behind the jersey. So one day
there was a delivery to my house. I was out
in the desert. Rachelle was here and she said, there's
(26:57):
been a delivery and and it's addressed to you. I
don't know what's in it. I said, we'll open it up.
She opens it and it is this jersey. It was
delivered to the house. So she said to me, oh
my god, that's pretty cool. You got the cherry blossom jersey, which,
by the way, we're very difficult to get, right Dave,
(27:20):
you remember I called verry difficult to get. So anyway,
you got those who are very difficult to get prior
to the Japanese series, and during that series, it's very.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Difficult to get. It was a high you couldn't get them. No,
you really couldn't.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Okay. So anyway, I say to her, well who's it from?
And she says, I don't know. I said, well, is
there a card? Is there a letter? She goes, no,
there's not. So I called Dave and I said, did
one of our sponsors send us all jerseys? I asked
him that question and he thought I was like goofing
on him. He's like, yeah, right now, No, I said, seriously.
(27:57):
He goes, no, I don't know of anyone that would
send that jersey. See, I have no idea where this
jersey came from. What. I have no idea how different
ending to that store. No, that's still to this day.
That's why war today. I don't know where it came from.
I don't know who said it to me. I have
no clue where the jersey came from.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Those I remember that time, and I had we have
a close family friend who went to the outer lengths
of the world to try to find that jersey, get
that jersey, especially old tany one because they had other
ones that had the cherry blossoms on it. Right, And
if you've never been to Japan, that is one of
(28:41):
the most beautiful times of the year, which is in
March late it depends on what it is, but late
March usually early April that the cherry blossoms come out
and only lasts for like a couple of weeks. But
it's the most beautiful sight you'll ever see. And they
hired a a well known designer to create these jerseys
(29:03):
for the Dodgers, and so they were the highly sought
after and you couldn't find them anywhere because they were
bought up. And for someone to send that to you
anonyms you still to this day don't know who send
it to you. That's why I wore today.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
I wore it today to say it on air, to
say it on air, and maybe you know weshe would
have said, well, okay, now I'll tell you the truth.
But he just walked back here and he shok his head.
I don't know. I have no idea where this jersey
came from. I don't know who said it to me.
I don't know how they got my address. And I
thought everybody got one I thought everybody at the station
got one. I thought, oh, that was pretty cool. I
(29:41):
have no idea where this jersey came from. Wow, So
now you broke your own rule. But I had to
for this. Yes, I had to point out.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Yes, that's a special people don't realize in japan O
tany cherry blossom jersey. You probably could put that on
eBay right now and make a nice, pretty penny.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Right. And it's the first time I've worn it. I
put it on for today because I still don't know.
It's only worn once by Fred Rogan and he has
no idea where he came from. It was the weirdest
thing I and I to this day, I have no clue,
but I got it. Wow. Okay, is that weird worth
worth breaking the rule for? Though? Yeah? Yeah, it's cool.
(30:26):
Very I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
I just wonder somebody listening out there who sent Fred
that jersey? Please come forward, please please come forward.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
Yeah, hit us up on social media or something. We
need to know where the jersey came from. Yeah, they
had to bring that up. Yeah, okay, so here's what
we're gonna do. Uh. Still slow on the field, Although
there you go.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
It's the same guy it's the same guy from yesterday
that came out early, running and getting his exercise and
getting his workout in.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
And there's their feet there there he is. He took
off his sandals. Now he's in his bare feet. Yep,
same guy saying, well, you know what, it works a
wall for him yesterday. Why not try it again? You
know that was a really good apro yesterday they took.
Is the woman gonna come out with her shoes off
to and start taking pictures like yesterday? Yes, yes, the
old guys. We're not sure who they were, who she was,
(31:16):
But yesterday there were these two old guys walking right off. Yeah,
I see them. They're out of gas. I think after
last night they just collapsed. What happened to routine? Or
where are those guys? Yes, they were like there was
two sets of guys.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Actually there was the early guys came out and they
were walking the field and back and forth, and then
two more guys came out and they were following them,
and we don't see them at all, and we're same
time we were yesterday. Yeah, they probably thrown into town,
you know what Redstone in the town. Now, they probably
after last night just went to the airport. Oh, backs
packed already. Yeah, they probably just flew home commercial. They
(31:51):
just got out of here. No reason to stay. The thing,
you know, do you check out at hotel? They already
checked out. Oh, they were coming to the stadium checked out.
Are we being too cocky right now?
Speaker 1 (32:01):
No? No, And the good thing is, you know, you
know major league clubs stay at four or five star hotels. Yeah,
but I'm sure they checked out because there's no reason
to pay for another night. If somehow they want tonight,
you go to Lict to the Hilton Garden and down
the street. They just check in there for the night.
Free breakfast. If they win, they take into Hilton Garden.
That's what they do. They get free breakfast. I mean
(32:23):
get like Cherryo's and stuff. Right.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
You know, I was thinking about that as you see
these new stadiums, and Dodger Stadium went through several renovations.
We see what they've done in centerfield outside there, and
it's it's a whole destination. Now you can just walk
all the way around the stadium and have a good time.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
I'm wondering when the hotel comes up at Dodger Stadium
when I'm in centerfield, do you know what the plan was.
Do you know what the real plan here was when
Frank McCord owned the Dodger. Now this this was the
ultimate plan.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
You know, he didn't have he wasn't He was cash poor,
he was cash for right, So he didn't have a
lot of money at his disposal. Was all tied up
in the club. And what he was hoping desperately, desperately
is that the Dodger TV deal would come up and
he would be able to get a deal like the
(33:15):
Dodgers were able to swing with Spectrum, and you know,
they would own part of the network, they would pay
a very large rights fee, and then all of a
sudden he'd have cash flow at that point. And Rodney,
if you look at development plans for this area submitted
to the city, buried somewhere but still very much alive,
(33:39):
there are plans to develop the parking lot and turn
that into maybe a hotel, restaurants, bars, shine like.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
They do in some of these new ballparks, what they
do around which Audi Mourno was trying to do down
there in Anaheim, right right, So the hotel, restaurants, bars,
you know all those things. So fi, Yeah, that plan
exists that that is very real.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
You can't see it now, you're thinking, well, what are
you talking about? That is the plan that they will
develop part of the parking lot here and turn it
into an entertainment distract where you would be able to
come here to the stadium three hundred and sixty five
days a year. Right because that land is just sitting there.
(34:26):
Why not monetize the land? So is that that might
be closer than we think, although nobody's really talking about it.
I'll say that. Okay, all right, we are live at
Dodger Stadium getting ready for Game two of the Wild Carrot,
Fred Rug and Rodney Pete on a five to seven
E LA Sports. Come on, Cardi B. Yes.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Today's afternoon delight is Don't Do Too Much by Cardi B.
This song appears on the deluxe version of our new
album entitled am I The Drama, which dropped recently earlier
this week. The album went double platinum in just ten
days after official release. Her sophomore project arrived seven years
(35:14):
after a six time platinum debut album, Invasion of Privacy,
in which all thirteen of its track certified platinum or
hire in twenty twenty two, making Cardi the first female
rapper to achieve that feat again. Today's Afternoon Delight is
Don't Do too Much by Cardi B. And Afternoon Delight
(35:37):
is brought to you by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, a
premier Palm Springs gaming destinations. Right now call her number
five eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy
will win a two night's hotel stay ten for two
at Palm and golf for two at Eagle Falls Golf
Course at Fantasy Springs Resort.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Cardi B wrote that don't do too much for Dodger
bullpen right. Oh she did. She was thinking of him,
That's what I'm saying. Present all right, So playoffs are
under way today. What'd you have an? The Padres are
up one nothing, Padres up?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, right now, Padres are up one nothing, and I
think it's a third inning right now.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Yeah. Cleveland Detroit tied, you said in the eight in
the eighth, Yeah, Cleveland Detroit tied in the eighth. Yeah,
Detroit wins. That's over. Cubs win, that's over. So uh
And if the Red Sox win tonight, it's over against
the Yankees. Oh boy. So last night, Max Freed pitches
for the Yankees, and it's a tight ball game. Now
Kevin and Rodney are on this text chain because they're
(36:35):
both in love with Max Freed. You're on the string too,
I know, but I'm not as in love with him
as you are. So as the game is progressed by.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
The way Leeds the led the American League and wins
nineteen he was nineteen and.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Five this year, by the way Max Freed. No, I know,
I got it. I got it, got the big contract
and delivered, paid a lot.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Of money for the situations, just like last night.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
Okay, So anyway, he is performing in the game, and
if we're to be abundantly clear, yeah, he's doing a
good job. But they're not clean innings. They're not clean.
But he got out of every one of them, right,
But they're not clean. Okay, all right, you don't have
to you don't have to have the attitude. Now they're
(37:18):
not clean. He gets out of everything he did, He
gets out of everything, leading one to nothing, leading one
and nothing. So what was his ninety ninth pitch? Ninety
ninth pitch, Yeah, ninety ninth pitch. Aaron Boone comes out
and gets him immediately immediately on the text Chain Rodney
and Kevin. Why did he go and get him? Why
(37:38):
did he take him out of the game. Why would
he do that when he had it going. Now again,
he got out of everything, but he was not sparkling.
He was sparkling in regards to getting out of everything.
So they go get him and they lose the game.
I knew by the way the minute they took him
out they were done. A minute he walked off the mound.
(38:02):
Alex Bregman was licking his chops. He took two steps
off the mound, and I said, because I was watching
with Rachelle, Yeah, that's it. It's over. And then Boston wins.
They did they win?
Speaker 2 (38:12):
I mean immediately, Yeah, almost like the Dodgers dead with
Tampa in that World Series. Right immediately when Blake Snell
got taken out of the game, the Dodgers were like,
they're all smiling, And I think the same thing happened
with Boston.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
As soon as Freed left that game. They took him out,
they started smiling, and immediately they took the lead. Right,
so the game was over. Your position, I think Kevin's
position was as well. And this is something you harp
on all the time. Ninety nine pitches, so they knew
when they were gonna go get him. By the way,
they knew when they were going to get him. And
(38:45):
your feeling is I think Kevin and he'll speak for himself.
When you hit the playoffs, all bets are off. There's
no pitch limit. No you go until you get knocked
out of the game. You just keep going. You can't
you can't love Boom. Aaron and I are friends. I
was I was teammate, was his brother, Brett. Brett Boone
(39:06):
and I played together at USC. Aaron played after US
at USC, went to USC as well, and obviously you
know he played in UH with the Yankees and and
other teams in Major League Baseball. Had the big home
run against Boston ironically, but in that moment in the playoffs, yes,
(39:27):
all bets are off.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
When it comes to pitch count, you gotta go eye test,
you gotta go. Okay, am I going to bring somebody
out of the pen that is going to be better
than what I got on the mound at that point,
And at that point it.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Was a one to nothing game.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Max Freed, yes, had some issues and some dicey situations,
got out of all of them.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
And you go get him and they lose the game.
I just I don't get that. I think at that point,
he's not at one hundred and thirty pitches, he's not
at one hundred and twenty. Let him go. He's your ace.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
He is the leader in the American League and wins.
I think he had nineteen wins this year. You paid
him all that money, which is the reason he did
get out of those situations because he's that guy. Don't
go get him, let him go. And that just I
mean as soon as that happened, I felt the same way.
(40:29):
I was like, Oh, the game's over. It's over. It's over.
And Boston knew it too. I think deep down the
Yankee players knew it too. It's like, why are we
taking him out of Why are we taking him out
of game? And so, you know, those folks that that
hate analytics, it just proves him right because you got
(40:53):
to go with the eye test in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
I think in the playoffs all bets are off.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
You got to just look and feel what is happening
and go with your gut, go with what is working
for you at that moment and what you see as
opposed to say ninety nine hundred pitches, whatever it is,
I got to take him out of the game because
that's what the book says.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
I hate that. Hate it, Kevin, What did you think
I mean?
Speaker 3 (41:16):
I couldn't have said it better myself, Rodney still the
words right out of my mouth. That's why he's there,
That's why you signed him to a giant contract. At
the very least, let it rest on his shoulders. If
he ends up, you know, walking two guys and gives
up a three run home run. I think most people
would live with that because he had been pitching so well,
and if he has one hundred and fifteen pitches, one
hundred and twenty pitches at that point, he's like, well,
he was rolling and he kind of let go of
(41:37):
the rope a little bit. But I'd rather go down
with him than Luke Weaver. That's the way that I look.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
At here, you go. I'd rather go down with him
than Luke Weaver or anybody else. He's the guy that
we invested in. He's a guy that we paid, That's
why we brought him here. Ride with him. I don't
understand why my teams do ride with the guys that
they invest in. Kevin. Do we have that Nick to Turo?
(42:04):
We do? Okay, So this is a post on Instagram
from Nick de Turo. He's an actor, he's a comedian,
and he is an enormous Yankee fan. He goes to
almost every single game and he posted this after the
game on the ride back home.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Here we go again, the same song, the same bat channel, the.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Same scenario, over and over.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
They never learned.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
They never learned.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
The guy's pitching the shutout, right, he's matching the other
guy crochet pitch for pitch. We got a one nuffin
swim lead. He gets the first out of the seventh inning. Okay,
he's got one hundred and two. So what so what
this is like the seventh game? There is no tomorrow, tomorrow.
You're on life support and you pull him?
Speaker 1 (42:51):
Why why do you pull him? For what reason?
Speaker 5 (42:54):
Because your analytic nerds told you to pull him.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
I know.
Speaker 5 (42:57):
That's why it makes no sense. They tell you not
to play your best players. You don't play Jazz Chisholm.
The other guy, Ben Rice, one of your best.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Hitters, didn't even get in at bat tonight.
Speaker 5 (43:09):
That's absurd, absurd.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
Then you got a Goldie in the ninth. He can't run.
You got a guy on the bench who can fly.
What's his face? The Martian he's not in the game.
Speaker 5 (43:22):
That's incredible. How you know they stay close and then
you pitch the Bregman when it's two to one, easily,
don't pitch to that guy. He has made a career
of destroying the Yankees a career, and Coorra runs circles
around us.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
I'm getting tired of it.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
He's a great follow too, because he's a die hard,
die hard Yankee fan and and really speaks his mind
about it.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
But a lot of what he said is absolutely right.
What you know he said, the analytic nerds told you
to take him out, you can't. The playoffs are a
different animal.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
I get it, you know, in July thirteenth, in the
regular season, right and it says, okay, he's at ninety nine,
one hundred and two pitches, all right, it's seventh, and
let's just get him out of the game. But in
the playoffs, it's just it's more emotion and feeling is
(44:23):
as much a part of the game as the analytic part.
And if you can't understand that, it's almost like Dave
Roberts remember Dave Roberts had to learn that over time.
He'd be the first to tell you, yes, he had
to learn that because he was strictly analytics in his
first few years with the Dodgers. And then you remember
(44:45):
he made that switch, that the moment that he went
out and looked Blake trying in the in the eye
last year in the in the in the World Series,
and said you got him, you got him, And Blake
said I got him.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
And he pounded Blake on the chest. It's like, all right,
I'm gonna leave him in and it got it done,
and and his gut told him go Walker Bueller at
the end. I mean it was all of even Julio.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
Remember Julio Reus, you know, let him close.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
I mean it was just he learned that over time
and again the playoffs, you play with different emotions and
different energy, and it's more about the player and the
players than it is the analytics. All right, Fred Rogan
Rodney Pete were live at Dodgers Stadium and we will
continue next hour on A five seven e LA Sports
