Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, here we go two hours show Fred Rogan
Jonas Knox in today for Rodney on AM five to
seventy La Sports Jonas, Here we go, LCS. You're excited?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Who's not excited for the LCS? Who's not excited for
the David Vasse revenge series?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Good way to put it. You know what, Dave has
always been highly respected, certainly in the Los Angeles market.
I think that made him a national hero. And I'm
not exaggerating.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
By the way, I found out on Friday that they
no longer do the slide down the Bernie, the Brewers
slide down after home runs like did you now? And
I thought it was because of what happened when David
vass and they didn't want any other injuries to take place.
But somebody was saying that it had more to do

(00:52):
with the fact that they didn't want to promote drinking,
which I always found odd considering your name is the Brewers.
You know, I'm not I don't know really what uh
what else?

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Said? We're going with?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
There?

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Wait a minute, they don't want to promote drinking, Well,
why would sliding down the slide promote drinking?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I mean, I think it's you know, it's kind of
a if I have it correctly, it's like, I don't know,
some sort of like maybe you're sliding into a glass
of beer.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
The whole thing's bizarre. I mean, let's be honest. The mascot,
the nickname sucks, like it just does. The fans, Yeah,
the fans are obnoxious. It's like, hey, what are we
known for?

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Booze?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Okay, then why don't you just tear down the stadium
and put a ballpark in the middle of a liquor store?
In fact, do this? Why don't you do Why don't
you combine two or three bevmos or total wines and
just throw the park in there, like like have the
bullpen be where the wine aisle is over by the
little mini bottles. That can be where you know they park,

(01:55):
like you know a lot of the grounds keeper stuff,
Like let's just do that. Like if you just want
to celebrate the fact that you are, that you booze
up and that you like to drink beer, just go
that direction. Don't disguise yourself as an actual ballpark slash
major league baseball team and then get sensitive when people
say maybe this isn't a good look that you've got

(02:16):
beer promoting by every time a guy hits a home run,
there's a Bernie the Brewer guy, some weirdo and you know,
in a stuffed animal outfit sliding down a slide. It's
just the whole thing's odd the way they.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Well, I don't think you're giving the people in Milwaukee
enough credit. Quite frankly, you're right. I just sat here
and said, is there are a bunch of drunks.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I want to apologize. I want to apologize to the
legends of Milwaukee, Bob Yuker and Jeffrey Dahmer. I want
to apologize on behalf of Fred and everybody here. I'm
not going to insult anybody.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Well, you kind of did, and you're not giving Milwaukee
enough credit. I mean, if you're going to play a
team in the league championship series, you got to know
a little something about it the city, don't you think.
Besides why Jeffrey Dahmer, Bob Yuker and a bunch of drunks.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Well, I'm not say it.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Everybody drinks. I'm sure some people are, you know, sober,
but it's like, what is like, you can't do it?
We don't want to you know, it's promoting. Alcohol's promoting.
This is promote and again, look, I could have bad information,
That's what I was told.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
It just seems a little.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Odd that that would be your approach when literally your
mascot is the Brewers.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
All right?

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Do you know that Milwaukee was the birthplace of the
typewriter for example?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
No kidding, true, mm hmm. I mean if not for
the typewriter, where would we be exactly, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
There'd be no computers. So to me, Milwaukee's like Google,
like Microsoft. Okay, think about it, Milwaukee. What else was
born in Milwaukee? The man who thinks everybody's drunk there?
How about you're ruddy?

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Feed me?

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Harley Davidson? How about that?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
And they couldn't get out fast enough?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Do you know that our Red Arrow Park, the ice
drink there is larger than the one at Rockefeller Center
in New York City? Are you aware of that?

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I mean, because people actually want the property around the
one in Rockefeller like like, of course it's the biggest ones.
Oh my god, we've got we've got the biggest lot here. Again,
nobody wants to build there. Again, if you take it,
nobody else is using it.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Of course.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Of course, all I'm saying is, as we begin this series, uh,
they're not just a bunch of drunks.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Again, I didn't say that.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Well you kind of did. That's kind of what you inferred.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Now, No, my point was your mascot is the Brewers,
but you don't want drinking to be what you're known for.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
It's okay, all right, you got it.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
What problem do you have, By the way, then we're
gonna get into this real quick. But what problem do
you have with a mascot? I mean, you wore a mascot.
I love mascots. Why why you gotta why you gotta
go hard on the mascot?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:59):
I was?

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I was was, And you're jealous that you weren't burning
the Brewer you were chuck E cheese.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
That's your issue's and listen, I had a legitimate reason
for the gig, like I needed to be able to
pay for stuff. Senior year of high school was expensive.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I didn't grow up behind gated communities in a wealthy,
lavish lifestyle like you did. You left one mansion in
Arizona and you went to another mansion into Luca Lake.
I've never been into a mansion, let alone even come
close to owning one.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Or I did. I did not live in a mansion
in Arizona. What are you talking about?

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Comfort? Everybody knows you grew up wealthy, Like everybody knows.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
You didn't not even remotely clubs.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Okay, were you or were you not neighbors with Dan Marley?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
I was not.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
So you never spent time at Marley's in downtown.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
I had eton there. Okay, let me put it like this.
Did Dan Marley ever clean the toilet at the Boys
Club like I did?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Maybe he's not into that.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I mean, that's the kind of work I did.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Well, Look, you know, people are into certain things. I
don't know, Rex right out of foot fetsh. I don't
know what to tell you. Like people like certain things.
If that's what you want to do, and you know
you've got you know, it's like you go into Fred's house,
there's no coasters, they've got urinal cakes.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Like, I'm not I'm not here to criticize people. I'm
just here to point out the hypocrisies of some of
the stuff that we're being fed. Right, okay, bye, by
the major, By the way, how long is this series.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Gonna go anyways. I mean, let's be honest here.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
You know it's not going any more than six. I
would say, could be over in five.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Don't you sleep. Don't you get the impression. I know
we're gonna catch up with Bill Plunkett because I I
kind of get the vibe that the real series was
the Philly series, like that was the one.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah, last year when the Dodgers beat the Padres, I
said that was the world series. That was the world series.
Whoever won that would win the world series. And there
it is the Dodgers Phillies. I think that was the
world's series. Whoever won that series would win, and I
think it'll be the Dodgers because they beat the Phillies.
I mean, I thought the Brewers wouldn't get past the

(07:09):
Cubs quite frankly. I thought the stage would be too
big for him. I did. I thought the life would
be too bright. They haven't been there all of a sudden,
they look around. It would have been overwhelming. No, they
got by him. Give them credit credit where credit is due.
They're here now. But the Dodgers are firing on all
cylinders now too, And that's an entirely different game. And

(07:30):
if Otani decides to hit, yeah, I mean, that would
be a nice treat. And he decided to hit in
this series, and.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Look, I know it's been a few days. I still
I think it's one of the great compliments paid to
a superstar that in the midst of One for seventeen,
the Phillies were like, we'd rather walk him to load
the bases to face another first ballot Hall of Famer
then have to deal with him in the midst of
one for seventeen, Like, it's kind of if you just
take a step back and look at that, and somebody

(07:59):
were to tell you that that that was the decision,
and nobody really criticized it because they're like, yeah, you
kind of like that, that's the way this, that's the
way this is. That's that like we kind of understand
the thought process there. Tells you how great of a
player Otani is, because you're right it like he's been
I don't want to say liability, but he has not

(08:21):
been good at there's.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Been a liability as a lead on fitter in the
last suit.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, and just to see that approach
that was taken and ultimately Mooky bets you know, stepped
in and if you look, if you actually do a
deeper dive on the numbers, Mookie Bets's numbers after somebody
being intentionally walked in front of him, you just start
to see like all of that stuff and you start

(08:45):
to do a deeper dive. You go, well, why was
that the move? And it was just because of the
threat of Otani that hey man, yeah, he's one for seventeen.
We don't want it to be two for eighteen with
a couple of runs driven in and we lose and
we're done. Ultimately ended up being that way. Then if
you listen to David Vasse, who was on your talk
on Friday, by the way, worked on his birthday, you know,
real grinder Daves just stun yeah, and he was pointing

(09:07):
out that the numbers against left handed batters versus right
handed batters, that the like it, just like a lot
of it. Upon further review, you look back on and go,
maybe that was a mistake by Philly, But in real time,
Otani's been struggling so much that you understood why, or
you didn't understand. In the moment, you're like, well, this

(09:28):
doesn't make any sense, But you saw the year that
he had and then it's like, okay, then you understood
why he's I mean, and he's one of those guys
to where all it takes is a two for four
with a couple of singles and the next thing you know,
he's on a tear like that's where it feels like
this is gonna go. I find it hard to believe
that he would continue to struggle down the stretch like that.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
On the topic bout Tani, if you have not heard,
he is not starting game one or two, probably not
starting game three. They're gonna go Blake SNeW Yamamoto, Tyler
Glass now and after his performance, yeah, he needs to
be in there and then probably in a game four Otani.
A couple of reasons for that. First, that brings Snell

(10:09):
back for five, Yamamoto back for six. So O'tani, who
many thought was going to get the start here tonight,
is not. As a matter of fact, he's been kicked
way back into the rotation, and I'm good with that.
How about we worry about hitting now? How about we
do that? So focus on hitting?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
So he would have started a game five though, yes, yeah,
so he would have started a game five, But they
don't trust him in this spot, or they're they're concern
about the hitting, so they don't want him to be
up there having to go. Okay, I mean, and.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Also or Jonas, they just decided, you know something, let's
go Blake Snell. Let's just put him in there and
get this thing started, right If you could pitch Snell
or Otani, you could pitch one or the other. Who
are you gonna pitch? So you're gonna pitch Snell?

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:56):
All right, So that's why they went with him.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
And to your point on glass Now, and I think
think sort of the way that game ended sort of
overshadowed the performance he put on. But he had never
started a game in the postseason for the Dodgers. There's
been a lot of criticism over the money he got,
you know, his availability, durability, all of that stuff. He
was outstanding, like outstanding and had him in a position

(11:21):
obviously you know, Sheehan comes in, there's the.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Air, all of that.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
But I feel like glass Now's performance sort of got
overlooked based on how the game ended, the conversations afterwards,
but he was great like that. That makes a ton
of sense to me that he would be a part
of this and we would be a part of the
series early as well.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yeah, that makes sense. As for the roster, okay, so
who made it? Who didn't? First Tanner Scott is dealing
with the absess he's not on the roster, okay, I
mean they apparently want him one hundred percent. No reason
to rush back. Trust me, there's no reason to rush back.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Obviously.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
I knew.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
I knew you couldn't help yourself.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I knew it, Like, you couldn't just let it be like, hey,
you know he's dealing with something. You know they don't
want to rush him back. You had to get a
shot in. You just had to.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
You couldn't help yourself.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
I didn't mean to use my outside voice on that.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
It's all Fred's like the type of guy where it's like, hey,
you know you're you're shopping for a toothbrush. He's looking
for the one that would be easier to file down
and use on somebody. It's like, you don't, like, I
don't understand why you need to take that approach here, Like.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Listen, I'm just I'm just saying. Ben Casparius is on
the roster, so he'll be there. They've got nine bullpen
guys Amanda Gasparius, Jack Dryer, Kershaw, Sazaki, San Tryan and
Vessia and Robleski. So there's your bullpen. Three starters as listed,

(12:39):
glasnow snell Yamamoto. The two way player is Otani. Other change,
Uh the Dodgers will carry two catchers and uh Ben
Rodvett and Will Smith. And that means Dalton Rushing did
not make the LCS roster. And there you go.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Otherwise, can I ask you something about Vessie?

Speaker 2 (13:00):
And I don't know, I don't know how well you
know the man, love the guy, So what is the
and listen, he's you know, really their only left hander
that you can you can trust out of the bullpen.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
But what is he.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Banda yes or no?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Okay, he's not Vessia.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
I mean I.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Would say that the confidence level is higher in Vessia.
But do you like, I mean, how many if you
had to say smelling salts? Does he go through before
he comes into a game or is it just does
he go on energy drink? Is he going uh, you
know to quadruple espresso? Like he seems wild when he

(13:39):
gets in there, and it seems like this year he's
really ratcheted it up, like like if it's one of those, Hey,
I'm gonna have an energy drink before I go in.
He's got to be at like two or three by
the sixth inning. It feels like to me.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Okay, look, I'm not sure what he does. It could
be energy drinks, that's fair. Could be a cart into
Campbell's not sure.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
I didn't know, Okay, I didn't know that that was
still a thing, all right. I didn't know that was allowed.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
We don't know what goes on down there.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Okay, I just I didn't know that a cart and
the camel's was was, you know, allowed inside Major League
Baseball stadiums any longer?

Speaker 4 (14:13):
I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
You know what, do we know what goes on in
the bowels of Dodger Stadium?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Are there still smoking sections at Dodgers Stadium? Remember the
one up in the second I remember if you walk
out towards I know, the side where the modello, where
the modello stand is on the first base side, down
the right field line, there used to be a smoking
section where it was like, hey man, if you want
to get away from cigarette smoke, don't walk through those guys,

(14:39):
because like walking through the set of Backdraft and guys
have got a lung darted and they're just puffing, just puffin.
Is that still exist?

Speaker 1 (14:47):
I don't know, I'm being honest, And if you know,
call us or tweet us or tell us, because I'm
not sure because I haven't gone to the smoking section,
but I think there was one on the left field
side as well.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Think that would make sense because you wouldn't want everybody
just piling into that one section if they've got to
get a heater in right.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
And I think you can also smoke in the stadium club.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Really no, there's still by the way. Do you know
how many people are like, oh, if I would have
known that.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
No, you cannot smoke in the stadium club.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Well, it's like listen, some airports still have smoking lounges,
Like if you go to like airports have have like
little enclosed areas where people can just go in there
and smoke. And if you want to know whether or
not you're on a plane that is up to date,
if there's a what appears to be what used to
be a cigarette that would light up to let you know,

(15:42):
no smoking, it's probably an older plane because at this point, you.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Know, I don't think anybody really needs to do that
any longer.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
You know, by the way, they still have and I
haven't seen it yet for the Brower picture tonight, undecided.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Woo watch out everybody, But is it gonna be miss Rawski.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Like, like, is it gonna be come on, like, let's
let's like, I get it. The Brewers.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
I love Pat Murphy all right. Anybody that doesn't doesn't
like Pat Murphy. He's fantastic. One of the things Pat
Murphy does. And I know this because I've happened to
watch a lot of Brewers games, Uh, you know, for
for for personal reasons, you know, But I there's one
personal reason. Well listen, you know I may or may
not have a vested interest in uh you know, what
happened with the Chicago Cubs. You know, I'm just saying,

(16:34):
I just want to want to throw that out there
now you do without what you will, but uh, you know,
there's a long line of following that franchise for me, okay,
with you know, with the family uh being from Illinois,
but half the family being from Illinois and moving out
here to California. So there's a lot I know a
lot about sort of that rivalry and how that works.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
So you bet the games.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Well yeah, I mean, listen, I bet on you know
which horse is gonna fall over at Santa Nita too,
Like what do you want from me?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Like, there's there's.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Nothing I won't bet on. And by the way, a
couple of years ago, I bet the over boy to
that pay. I'm just I'm just saying, like the point,
the point is Pat Murphy does this.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
You don't get to say that kind of stuff on
the challenge, now, do you?

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Jones nolah blah.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
I would, But Pat Murphy's got this thing to where
and anybody that knows the story of Pat Murphy and
Craig Council. So Pat Murphy brought Craig Counsel to Notre Dame.
He was in the Milwaukee area on a recruiting trip.
He ended up seeing this guy, Craig Counsel. He invited
him to camp. Council made the roster. Since then, they've
been really close, like thirty plus years. So when Counsel

(17:44):
got hired as manager of the Brewers, he brought in
Pat Murphy to be his bench coach. When Counsel left
to go to Chicago. And by the way, and Brewer
fans are upset about it, I'm surprised it took him
that long. I'm surprised. But when when he got to Chicago,
they elevated Pat Murphy and since then Milwaukee's just kept
on chuggin' like they've won the division twice they had,

(18:05):
you know, they won almost one hundred games this year.
One of the things that Pat Murphy does is he
makes every media member introduce themselves and tell them tell
him about themselves when they get into like any sort
of a press conference. And it's not to be demeaning.
It's not to you know, trying big time anybody or
show that he's the manager and there. He really wants

(18:27):
to get to know people. So like the one thing
about the Brewers, if you hear Pat Murphy talking, he
goes it seems like a good guy.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
He's a great dude. Everybody loves that guy.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
So you won't hear you won't see any any sort
of vibe like oh boy, Dave Robertson might have a problem.
Like Mike shild too, I think just recently retired. If
I'm not a shake and yeah, he retired today, Like
you're not gonna see any of that. Pat Murphy is awesome.
But if We're being honest here. You know they're they're
up against it. Like whoever was coming out of the

(18:57):
Cubs Brewer series was gonna have to deal with the
Dodgers all of a sudden have found a closer. All
of a sudden, They've got they've got, you know, a
pitching staff that seems like it's coming to help that
they thought was going to be there the entire time.
And uh, and I can't see the series, I'm with
you going any any further than six games.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
No, I don't think so. By the way, where was
Pat Murphy college coach?

Speaker 4 (19:18):
His game? Okay?

Speaker 1 (19:20):
And after that, where was the spot that he really
became a great college coach?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Do you remember, Oh, I'm gonna say, oh.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
God, this is a Arizona state.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Okay. So that was after Notre Dame. Hm, so he
went and he was a Sun devil. I mean, I listen,
I figured you were going to figure out a way
to shoehorn any any of your Arizona propaganda in here
at some point, like I figured that was going to
be where where.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
I don't think it's propaganda. I'm just making a statement
of fact.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
I mean, okay, I mean, listen, does that does that
change the way you feel about the Brewers' chances now?
Because he coached at Arizona State. I was going to
say Concordia. But again, you know, if you want to
go to lower level colleges, and that's fine, to each
their own. But I'm a Concordia guy. But if you
go Arizona State and you want to plug them, that's fine.

(20:15):
But whatever you gotta do, I'm not here to judge.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
I don't know if he did have a year at Concordia.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
He may have.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
He may have coached one year at Concordia.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
I mean, if he did, that would change the outlook
of the series.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Oh, for God's sake, yes, it would mean everything. In fact,
he had one year.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
By the way, Kevin is saying, bullpen game for the Brewers, Okay, yeah,
bullpen game.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
And who started that trend? By the way, who was
the team that began that? The Dodgers?

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Now, was it a Mark Pryor idea?

Speaker 3 (20:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
I'm sure it was Andrew Friedman. Don't you think, geez.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Cheez Fred? Like what, we're trying to give Mark Pryor
some love?

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Now, we're giving him the love he deserves, but I
don't Well, maybe he sat down and said, hey, let's
try this. They all work together, Jonas, they're a team.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah, but I think Mark Pryor might have been the
guy who said, we could take this approach. That way
we can kind of get and also look Tampa Bay.
The Rays used to do some funky stuff as well too,
to where they would roll out kind of a bullpen game,
but they would do it during the regular season, and
it was probably because they were like, hey, let's can
we do anything to get anybody inside this building, like

(21:25):
can we do something interesting please?

Speaker 3 (21:27):
And there it is.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
The race started the trend when Friedman was there. It
was Andrew Friedman.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
Okay, all right, my apologies, My apologies to Andrew Friedman.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Well, you know, and give credit where credit is due.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
Okay, that's fair. He deserves it.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I mean, you love Pat Murphy. You made that abundantly clear.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
I'm just saying if you are, if you're a Dodger
fan and you're looking at the Brewers and if you
see Pat Murphy interviewed and you're like, man, he seems
like a good dude. He is, like that is a
well liked guy. A lot of people like Dave Roberts
as well too, Like you're not going to have any
sort of issue like where we had Costiano's and you
know the Phillies manager apparently don't like each other at all.
That doesn't exist in the series, Like these are both

(22:08):
respected managers, respected teams, and then you know they've got
a mascot who got David Veasse injured. I feel like
there's enough vitriol there that we don't need to point
at the manager or the other side and be like,
that's an unlikable guy. It's not all right.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Well, you'll hear the game tonight coming up here on
the radio station when we come back. Bill Plunkett, OC
Register will join us from Milwaukee. Fred Ronic and Jonas
Knxon today for Rodney and AM five to seventy LA Sports.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
HR.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Jonas Knox in today for Rodney. That music inspire you,
Jonas get you going.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Oh Man, makes you want to have some camels.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Like that brought it up, like, I don't know, doesn't
it seem like Alex Vessia this year the energy is
different than it has been in the year's past, where
he's always been pretty fiery and kind of amped, but
now it's like and he did it earlier in the year.
I think it was against Maybe it was the Padres

(23:22):
where he got out of a jam, and I think
we talked about it on the air because I think
it was filling in and I was like, man, if
for anybody that thinks, you know, the Padres aren't a
legit threat or this isn't a real rivalry per se,
watch vessi as reaction when he got out of that jam.
And then since then, it's the same thing. It's every
game like it's to say, and I'm just wondering, like,

(23:43):
because I know Banda Anthony Bonda talked about how he
would go through however many energy drinks it was, or
what not to get before he comes into games. I
think he was on with Petro some money when he
was talking about that.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
Then I'm just.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Wondering, is that like everybody in the bullpen, because whatever
it is, it's doesn't touch what Vessi is doing.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Like he is amped when he gets into games.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Maybe he has an Iva red bull.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I mean that that doesn't seem dangerous at all.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
No yeah, no, no, no not at all.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
You know what whatever it takes to get those three outs.
Are you a team guy or not?

Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yeah, I'm with you, man.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
And if it comes at the at the cost of
risking long term health, so be it. I mean, that's
that's the way this stuff goes. Are you a are
you like an espresso guy or you a coffee guy?

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Like?

Speaker 4 (24:28):
What's your what's your drug of choice when it comes
to energy? Like what do you like to go with?

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Straight coffee? But I have one cup of day. That's it.
That's it.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Nothing else, better man than me?

Speaker 1 (24:38):
What do you do one am?

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Wake up calls?

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Yeah, we're going We're going coffee, A couple of shots
of espresso inside and uh and let a rip. Yeah, yeah,
that's I.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Got to then.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
You know, maybe in the afternoon I'll have a cold brew,
you know, something like that. But in the morning, it
has to be hot coffee. I don't care if it's
one hundred and five degrees out, if I'm in the
desert with you. Has to be hot coffee in the morning.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
You know what I like? Maybe you like these, oh
Starbucks strawberry frappuccinos.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
You like that?

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Is there sugar in it?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yeah, yeah no I can't. Yeah, they're they're tasty.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
I've had some you know Starbucks stuff that's I mean,
it's tasty, but yeah I can't you know, just the
sugar kind of ruins.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
It for me, you big Starbucks guy.

Speaker 4 (25:21):
The cold brew is great. Cold cold brew is great.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Let me give you a name of something you can't
get it Starbucks and the' trillia all you need? You bam,
that's all you need.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Yeah. Look, yeah, let me tell you what.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
That's not going to cost you seven bucks for a
cup of coffee.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
No, it's not.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
And and I make all my coffee, you know, like
any hot coffee I have, I make it home.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
And I don't have one of those cure egs where
you throw it in and like it does the work
for you.

Speaker 4 (25:48):
I have a drip. Like I want to.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
See a drip old school. I like to smell it.
I like to hear it going, and then once it's
ready to go, I like to pour it into the
cup and be ready to rock.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Like that. That's old school, classic stuff.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Let me give you two words. Yeah, Hill's brothers.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Hey, those are the greatest brothers of all time.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Let me give you one more word, one more Yeah, Senka,
remember Senka?

Speaker 4 (26:15):
No, what about it?

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Can you take a couple of spoons and put it
in the cup? Put some hot water in their a roll.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Yeah, it's the instant coffee. Yeah, yeah, the instant coffee.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Tell you what, that's not nine dollars a cup, is it?

Speaker 4 (26:29):
No, it's not.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
No. Look, there there are options out there. You just
got to be willing to put in the work.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Yeah. Most are the man that puts things to work.
He's working in Milwaukee right now. It's our buddy Bill
Plunkett of the OCI Register. Bill, thanks for jumping on.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
It's my pleasure. I always tune in to get the
barefoot report from from you who which players are walking
on the field barefoot?

Speaker 1 (26:50):
So you see, somebody's got to do that.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Bill.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I don't think you should make life really. You know,
when people are that, they're grounding themselves, Bill, we learned
that they're at one.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
With the with the earth. I'll keep an eye out
for barefoot grounding tonight.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Here's the thing I don't get though, if you really
think about it, I mean, could you just walk into
Dodgers Dadium without your shoes on? So you're grounding yourself
at the stadium.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
I would never walk around Dodgers stadium barefoot. You never
know what you might catch.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Okay, but you've been on the field, you've interviewed people,
that's fair to say.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Correct. Yes, I have never interviewed anyone barefoot.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Okay. I'm just saying, if the players can do it,
why can't you do it?

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Yeah, there's a lot of things the players can do
that I can't.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
That's a good time. Jonas and I kicked this around
in the first segment. I like the Dodgers to win
the series, But what concerns do you have?

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yeah? I think this year's Brewers team reminds me of
the Diamondbacks from a couple of years ago that gave
the Dodgers so much trouble. They're young and athletic. They
run the bases aggressively. This Brewers team isn't as good
defensively as those Diamondbacks, but they have better pitching, so

(28:07):
they don't they you know, they're not a pushover. They
won ninety seven games during the season, not by accident.
So I think that the base running is going to
be an issue that the Dodgers are going to have
to deal with. I think they're going to see a
variety of arms. The Brewers will you know, they Game

(28:29):
five in the NLDS, they opened with their closure, so
they'll they'll play the matchup game, they'll do some unconventional
things as far as how they use their pitching. So yeah,
there's a couple couple of real challenges for the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Do you think that home field is one of those
challenges because I know that, you know in baseball, you
know it's doom and gloom, and next thing you know,
a team can rattle off two three wins and we're
having a whole different conversation. You saw the Dodgers go
into Philadelphia and won a couple of games. How much
of an impact do you think homefield has, particularly this
year in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Well, I thought home field was going to be the
decisive factor in the Division series, So don't ask me.
I thought playing in Philly was going to be a
real problem for the Dodgers, and clearly it wasn't. The
Brewers don't have as dramatic a home field advantage as
the Phillies do playing in their place. I don't think

(29:30):
it's a big factor. I think the Brewers hit a
little better at home. I think most teams do, but
I don't think it's going to slow the Dodgers down
a whole lot.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Bill Plunkett is with us, Okay, let's talk about Shoe
Hey Otani, the pitching rotation. So they're going to start
with tonight Blake Snow. Then I go to Yamamoto. We
don't know when Otani's going to pitch. Some thought he
would start this series. I like the decision will put
him in. When we put him in, what do you
think about that?

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah, I think you'll see glass now in Game three
because that makes him available for a potential Game seven.
If you start Otani in three, they're not going to
ask him to turn around in four days and pitching
Game seven. So I don't think you see Otani before
Game four. I like it for a reason that Dave

(30:26):
Roberts denied when I asked him about it. I think
it's a good idea to take pitching off of Otani's
plate for a few days. He was not good as
a hitter last round, and the Dodgers need that, probably
more than they need his six innings on the mound.
So maybe for a couple of days he clears his head,

(30:47):
doesn't have to think about pitching yet, and gets right
in the box because I again, I think that's more important.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Did they know what they had in Roki Sasaki coming
out of the bullpen as a you know, de facto
closer like or is this something that they spotted like
he's got the mentality, he's got the temperament for this,
he's got the stuff obviously, or did they accidentally fall
into this and realize, oh, he's the goods.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
They had no idea that he would be this good,
no idea he had the stuff. He did not have
the mentality that, at least not visibly as a starter.
He was struggling, and he was you could see the
look in his eyes. He didn't know what was going
on in April and may he didn't. He'd never been

(31:37):
hit like that in his life. So and Andrew Friedman
even told us as late as the end of August
they didn't think he would pitch in the big leagues
again or would not be an impact in the big
leagues again. This year. It was, you know, a trip
to Arizona where he finally opened up and let the

(32:01):
pitching development people get him to make some changes. When
he started seeing one hundred on the radar gun again.
I think that changed his mentality and his outlook. He
started to get confident. Then he had a couple really
good shutdown innings as a reliever, and the swagger started

(32:22):
to come back. So I don't think even Rokie saw
this coming. I tell you what I expected was for
him to come back to the big leagues for the
last week or two of the season. They would try
him in the bullpen, he would walk the house and
not do well, and then would be a spectator for
the postseason. So this is I think it's fair to

(32:44):
say this is a surprise to everyone.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Okay, as it comes to the roster, Tenor Scott not
on the roster. Of course, he's hurt, he's dealing with
some stuff. But we have Ben Casparius back. I don't
mind that Robleski is there. I don't mind that either.
But it's funny it's listed glassnow, snell Yamamoto starters, and
then will Atto, Tommy nine in the bullpen, and Dalton

(33:09):
Rushing not on the squad. It's going to be Ben Rodvett.
What do you think.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Yeah, they don't need three catchers for this round because
Will Smith is back to normal. Last round they were
kind of easing him in He didn't catch a full
game until Game three, so they kept three as kind
of a fallback, so that could use him as a
pinch hitter. That's not going to happen now. Vett has
impressed them with his defense, so he's kind of climbed

(33:37):
ahead of Rushing on the depth chart, so Rushing gets
left off Casparius. They when they sent him down to
the minors for the last month or so of the season,
the idea was to refine some things so he would
be a righty killer. They have this obsession with righty killers,

(33:58):
going back to Joe Blanton. They tried the Canton, my
Aida and the bullpen to be that guy. So Ben
Casparius is the latest in a long line. So I
think you'll see him in relief against Brighty's pretty frequently.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Speaking of relief, did you get the sense that there
was sort of a sigh of relief. I know we
were kind of kicking this around on Friday and Tim
Kates was pointing out that it seemed like Freddie Freeman
Showheo Tani with not having to deal with as many
left handers that Philly rolled out and the quality of
pitching that there was a sire relief. It felt like,
just in general from a lot of people myself included,

(34:36):
that whoever was winning the World Series or at least
going to the World Series, was coming.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Out of that Philly LA series.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
What sort of vibe are you getting from the team
and covering them as they approach this round coming off
that series? That look, although they won it in four,
I think we can all agree it seemed like it
was going back to Philly for a game five.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Yeah. I think we looked back at last year the
NLDS against the Padres after the fact, after they won
the World Series, Dave Roberts and some of the players
said that the Padres were their biggest challenge, that that
was the most important hurdle that they had to clear,
That the Padres were the best team they faced last postseason.

(35:19):
To be honest, I think we're going to look back
at this and say the same thing about the Phillies
when it's all said and done, that that was the
best team they faced in the postseason, that that was
the biggest hurdle. They're not willing to say that now.
Of course, you don't want to disrespect the Brewers and
whoever else they might play, But I think it's clear

(35:41):
you're going to look back on it that way.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Yeah, so how many games? Bill? You have a prediction?

Speaker 3 (35:49):
Yeah, it's in the Orange County Register. You didn't buy
it and read it?

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Oh, Fred, you don't want here's the problem. Here's the problem.
I bought it. I've not had a chance to read
it yet.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Oh well, I don't want to ruin the endings for you.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Yeah you got you got his, buddy, Bill? Please, you know,
come on.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
If you go to the website, it's on the website too,
I said, Dodgers and six. That was, first of all,
my prediction.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Here's my problem with the website, Bill, I gotta be
honest with you. You know there's a paywall there right.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
I'm very aware of that. People pointed out to me
all the time.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
Okay, maybe you just tweet it out next time, just
your prediction.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
I will. I will tweet out the link to the story.
But you know, I got to get paid here.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
But don't I know it, buddy, Hey, I understand how
this business works better than anybody I got. All right, Well, Bill,
thanks for coming on. Now what are you doing in Milwaukee?

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (36:52):
So much? There's you know, so much to do in Milwaukee,
and I have so much free time during the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Well, you know what, Bill, You'll have free time tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
Yeah, a little bit, not a whole lot. I'll be
at the Milwaukee Public Market, great spot for lunch. Okay,
so you know, walk along the river, maybe past the
Fonzie Statue, all the all the high points of Milwaukee.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
Bill, were you were you?

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Are you admitting now without actually saying it, that you
were pissed off at Milwaukee advanced in not Chicago? Were
you looking forward to Chicago more so than Milwaukee?

Speaker 3 (37:29):
And you know it was it was kind of a
one or the other. It's like Chicago would have been
nice because it's only one trip. We might be doing
two trips now. But I'm a team player and the
expensive hotels in Chicago would would not have been good
for my corporate bottom line.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
All right, listen to I'm gonna give me something to do.
I don't know if you've done it before. You know
you've been to Milwaukee, but you know what these is?

Speaker 3 (37:58):
No, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
The Holler House, Well, great, maybe you should go here.
The oldest certified bowling alley in the country.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Oh yeah, oh bowling, What a great way to pass
the afternoon.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Well, bring monkey with you. For God's sakes.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
He gets hang out together all the time on the road.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
He'll probably be there on his off day, either doing
his podcast or bowling.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Well, he won't be at the Sister with the team
because that's the haunted hotel that he won't stay at.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
Oh that's right, forgot about the haunted hotel.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
Play.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Plus, you know, as Fred likes to point out all
the time, it's the birthplace of Jeffrey Dahmer, So there
is that to look forward to.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Also, you know, I'm.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Sure there's a museum or something for that somewhere, or.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
At least a freezer, you know.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Yeah, Okay, Bell, thanks for coming on. We appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
You got it, guys.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
All right, there goes our buddy, Bill Plunkett of the
OC Register, Fred Rogan and Jonas Knox on a five

Speaker 4 (39:48):
Never say na a Fantasy Springs Resorts. That's right.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
You know you ever been out there?

Speaker 4 (39:54):
No, it looks awesome though, that's great.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
It really is great.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Yeah, it looks cool.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yeah, looks and I've got a great performance center there.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
Yeah, it looks clean. It's okay.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
Why would you think it wouldn't be clean.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
I mean, you know there's some casinos in different parts
of the country that aren't exactly clean, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Oh my god, Well, if you went there, you'd lick
the floor, that's how clean it was.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
Yeah. No, I mean it appears that way.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
I mean, look, licking the floor might be a bit much,
but you know, I'm open to it.

Speaker 4 (40:23):
It looks that beautiful.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Well there it is. Yeah, if you do win and
you go out there, you don't have to lick the floor.
Just enjoy yourself. Good for a great time. Yeah, all right,
we'll get more into the Dodgers in the game than
i'd coming up in the next segment. Let's talk football.
You want to start with the Rams, the winning Baltimore
if Lamar Jackson played, I don't know if the Rams
won that game.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Man, Baltimore stinks. Look, I actually I was surprised, and
I know the Puka nakooa injury is he's going to
be out. He's going to miss a week or two
because he's dealing with the ankle. I was surprised that
it was as close as it was for as long
as it was. I was under the impression just based
on what happened the last time we saw the Rams

(41:04):
out the Thursday night let down against the Niners, where
Sean McVay had a red ass afterwards because of the
play calling and it's my mistake and it's fourth down.
But you're playing a Niners team who's riddled with injuries.
Mac Mac Jones filling in for brock Perty apparently saw
a dead body out in front of his hotel before
that game on Thursday night. It's like somewhere in Marina

(41:26):
del Rey, there's like a floating corpse in front of him.
He goes out, his cramps are so bad, he's going
through rigamortis and they still win that game, and the
Rams are shaking their head, like we can't beat this team.
There's all these Niners fans here. I just assumed they
would go to Baltimore against a struggling defense and Cooper

(41:46):
Rush is the starter at the time, and put it
on him. I was surprised that it was as close
as it was, but ultimately they pulled away. And now
you just got to wonder whether or not you know
Puka Nakua and his health is going to be a
conversation because it does seem like he takes a.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Beating, like it's definitely takes a beating, and.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
It seems like his style of play much like Cam
Scataboo with the Giants. I just don't know how long
that lasts, Like how long can he hold up before
you're like, all right, this is long term not sustainable.

Speaker 1 (42:15):
You know what they are. They're human pinballs. Yeah, just
the way they get knocked around, they're human pinballs.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
It just seems like there's there's always something. There was
something last year, and that was my one thought when
they decided, and I totally understood, you know, moving away
from Cooper Cup. I get it, you know the age,
you know the injuries for him, you know from where
he was in twenty twenty one when he was the
Player of the Year. But I just wonder, like, oh, okay,
but man, I don't know that Pooka gets to that level.

(42:46):
Not that he can't from an ability standpoint. He just
takes a pounding man like there's some guys that are
that are just looking for contact. And and Pooka, even
though the game yesterday was him trying to make a
play in the end zone, if you watch him run
his style, I just wonder, long term, how long.

Speaker 4 (43:04):
This is gonna last. That's my only thought.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
I get you, I got you, all right. Let's move
now to the Chargers. And that comeback went over Miami.
That should have finished Mike McDaniel right there. That often geez,
just like that, Oh my god, Jonas, you're sitting there,
you're watching the game, I'm saying, Oh, Miami's gonna come
down and score, and that's gonna be it. That will

(43:26):
be the end of it, and they will beat the Chargers.
They come down and score. What was there forty six
seconds left? Yeah, I think so, And you're thinking, well,
you know, maybe you get maybe, maybe you got a
shot here, but it's a long shot at best. Boom
they go down and win. It was like, Oh my god, the.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
Herbert play is probably what he's gonna be having to
do a lot of just because of the health of
the O line. The Herbert play was unbelievable. And I'm
Mconkey's fantastic camera dicker ice the game, I also wondered,
and I don't know if you you thought this as
well too, because after words, the story out of that
game was man, big win for the Chargers that looked
like they were going to lose, and ultimately they pulled

(44:05):
it out. But Tua Tagovailoa of the Dolphins called out
his teammates. He basically called him out and said, you know,
we got guys showing up late the players only meetings,
so on and so forth. And it was kind of
a unique approach because you basically aired everybody out and
threw everybody under the bus afterwards on players only meetings.
But I wonder how much of that is because Tua

(44:26):
hears the conversations about they chose him before they took Herbert,
because it was one of those two guys, like you, like,
the Dolphins could have taken Tua or they could have
taken Herbert. And here we are in the game against Herbert.
Tu It didn't play well, he threw three picks, and
then afterwards he's calling out players and in their players
only meeting and the guy taken after him made the

(44:49):
play of the game to keep the game alive and
ultimately the Chargers won it. I just wonder how much
of that Tua hears and that led to why he
was acting and talking the way he was afterwards, because
you normally don't hear that from that guy.

Speaker 1 (45:01):
If the Dolphins could do it again, what they have
taken Herbert.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Of course, yep, yeah, yeah, of course yeah. Like And
that's Look, it's not to say Tua hasn't had a
good cur like I think I think two is a
good quarterback. I think Mike but Daniel did good work
with him. There's just a ceiling. It feels like with
him as opposed to Herbert that you're never gonna get over.
I actually look back at that draft class to where

(45:25):
it was Burrow that went one, and then you had
Tua and then you had Justin Herbert, and you know,
I know we can do the whole wall you should
have taken this guy before that guy, and but ultimately
we're gonna look back on that draft class and go,
you know, like that was actually like those were those
were good players, Like all those guys were good players.
Nobody had a bad career, somebody had a better career
than others. But it's very similar to the Philip Rivers

(45:49):
draft class where Eli Manning went, Philip Rivers went, Ben
Roethlisberger went, None of them had a bad career, Like
they all had pretty good careers, like really good. A
couple of them are Hall of famers. Philip Rivers, you
can argue I think Philip Rivers was a better quarterback
than El Manning. I actually think the Chargers got the
better of that trade, but he didn't have the Super
Bowls to go along with it. I just like sometimes

(46:12):
we pick and choose, like, well, you should have taken
one over the other. Absolutely, But that's not to say
two has n't been a good quarterback. I just don't
think he's got the ceiling that Herbert does, is my
thought on it. All.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
Right, coming up next that hour, a friend has a
new job and we're going to talk to talk to him.
We'll bring him on the show. We'll let you know
more about that, and when we come back, the Haunted
House of Milwaukee Fred Rogan, Jonas, Knox Jonas and Today
