Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, we continue on Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete on
seventy LA Sports. Thanks to Gary and Shannon last hour
for jumping on. Hey have you missed any of that?
That was very funny. Check out the podcast. We put
it up the minute we get off the air, and
keep this in mind as well. The world has changed, everybody,
the world has changed. And when I'm driving back and
forth to the desert, you know, I stream the show's Rodney,

(00:23):
I just stream them on the iHeartRadio app. That's easy.
It's very easy. The number one podcast company in the world, Fred, Yeah,
I mean you can listen to our show. You can
listen to Petros and Matt if you miss them, they're
up there for podcasts. You can listen to them live.
Just take the show wherever you go. iHeart app get it, Yeah,

(00:45):
get the iHeart app. Once you start using it like
I have now, I don't use anything else. Yeah. I
sit in the office out there, and of course, for
a while, because it's like a tiny little TV state,
I didn't even have a TV, so I couldn't watch
the Dodgers for a while. Honestly, God, when I first

(01:06):
got there, wow, uh so I just listen on the
app sitting there right, I've listened to the Internet in
the office. Well listen, it's you know, No, it's much
better now I have a TV. I get it. I
get you know. They even have our picture up there
on the iHeart Do they on iHeart app? Yeah, you

(01:27):
can check us out and Brogan and Rodney's up there.
All right, you gotta search it, but there pop up
the minute you log on. Well, if you put it
on your favorites, it will pop up. Okay, all right,
everybody get the app. Uh we'll talk some Dodgers this hour.
And uh. Also we're going to kick around h some NBA.

(01:47):
This story about the w NBA. Yeah, can you break
it down for for our listener, but may also break
it down for me? What the hell is going on
with the w n b A and the commissioner poking
the bear the monster po can deliath? I mean, I
don't understand what's going on? Break it down for it. Okay,
So the WNBA is at a critical juncture and their
TV deal is gonna be renegotiated and they're gonna have

(02:10):
a new collective bargaining agreement. And let's be honest. Wait,
didn't they just get a new TV deal. Yeah, but
they want to tweak it a little bit. I want
to tweek it. So let's be honest, and can we
be really honest. Nobody cared about the WNBA for years.
Didn't mean they didn't have great players. Didn't mean the
fans that did like it really got behind it. That's

(02:30):
that's all true. But I mean, in the big picture,
in the giant scope, the WNBA was like a blip
on the radar screen. That's the truth, you know, and
eliminate this, Well, you just don't like women. No, that's
not true. We're just talking about the reality. Okay, So
suddenly they get a little juice Rodney. They did a
little traction. And the league has complained for years that

(02:51):
they should be on the same levels the NBA, which
is wrong. I don't think they did say I didn't
they didn't say that. Well, but they should be paid more,
they should fly private more, paid more, Yes, but I
don't think they had any illusions of they should be
on par with the with the men when it comes
to the NBA. Well, they just they should better, they
said that, but yeah, definitely treated better. The way they've

(03:13):
been treated was horrible. It was the way they've been
women's sports been treated in general has been horrible. Okay,
but remember the member of that Olympics that we forget
where it was, but they showed the Olympics. Was it
the Olympics, No, it was the it was in the bubble,
it was during the bubble time. And they showed you
know what the w NBA was going through and their

(03:35):
facilities and awful their weight room and workout and training areas.
And then they showed the guys and it was all
state of the art. It's just, yeah, it was horrible.
But but yeah, I don't think they have really any
illusions of you know, getting paid on par with the
guys though. All right, so they wanted more, they wanted more.
Reality is, the league didn't generate the kind of revenue

(03:57):
because it was a w NBA. That's flash four. The
league is making more money, truly making more money because
of Caitlyn Clark. You can throw Angel Rees in there,
but they're making more money because of Kaitlyn Clark. She's
Tiger Woods of the WNBA. Right when Tiger played golf,
the ratings were sky high. Everybody couldn't wait. Tiger didn't play.
The numbers dropped and you have to find new stars,

(04:18):
but you still haven't filled that void of Tiger Woods.
She's Michael Jordan, she's one of those players. Yeah, she's
Tiger She's Tiger Woods. And Angel Reese is still Michelson. Okay,
that's fair, right, that is a fair you want to
do the comparison, that's kind of win. That's a fair comparison. Yeah.
So because you need that, you need that competition, and
you need that rivalry, you still you need that. Well yeah,

(04:39):
you have to have that. Yeah, right, But you know,
people are are interested in leagues and things because of
the personalities and the players. That's just how it works.
That's how the NBA's marketed. Okay, so if Caitlin Clark,
this is great, people care. Suddenly they're running highlights of
Caitlin Clark's games early in sports cast. It's a big deal.

(05:03):
So the commissioner sold out arenas sold out? Oh my god,
sold out arenas? Yeah, yeah, better than some NBA teams.
Yeah at home and not talking at home, I'm talking
about when it's you went on the Roads. Yeah, it
was sold out, all right. So anyway, the commissioner of
the w NBA, she's been there a while, and oftentimes
she says things he kind of cringe like. And she

(05:25):
is the she's Adam Silver, she's the Adam Silver, the
commissioner of the w NBA, Kathy Ngelbert all right, So anyway,
she makes a comment of Thebert humper, right, I think
she's she's humperty. No, she's not. There's no relations all right. Anyway,
So she she's asked a question about the league and
Caitlin Clark, and you know, basically, the players aren't really

(05:48):
paid much. That's true. That remains the same. So let
me get this straight. So she was triggered by that
question of the players not getting paid, correct, the commissioner.
So somebody threw it out there, well, you know, salary
whatever is still low. What are you going to do
about getting the players paid more? Right, that's kind of
what And it triggered a unusual well I wouldn't say,

(06:12):
maybe not for her, unusual, but it triggered not a
great response. Well, here it was talking about Caitlyn Clark. Obviously,
somebody who puts butts in the seats and makes money
for the league. Here's a response. Caitlyn Clark should be
grateful she makes sixteen million off the court because without
the platform the WNBA gives her, she wouldn't make anything.

(06:34):
Oh god, oh my god, what are you saying? What
You're the commissioner of the league and that is your response. Hey,
do you think the players there are underpaid? I'll tell
you one thing, Caitlyn Clark should be damn happy she
makes that money off the court because our platform allows

(06:55):
her to do it. That diminishes every player in the
league that says these people don't deserve to be paid more.
They should be thankful they have an opportunity at all.
And Caitlin Clark is rich because of us, not because
of what we pay her, because we let her play.

(07:15):
How tongue deaf and blind can you be? You're in
charge of the league. You can't do that. You can't
do that. How are you in charge your players? Aren't
you supposed to as the commissioner? I mean, which we've
seen good wines and badance, But aren't you supposed to

(07:35):
embrace your players to to enhance your league? I mean,
I think David Stern probably was the catalyst for understanding
it's about the players and marketing and let's celebrate the players.

(07:57):
And he came at the right time because it was
Magic Bird. Then Michael Jordan took it to a different level,
but he'd never said, Hey, Michael Jordan should be thanking
us for having a platform to make all that money
with Nike and everybody else. Ho in their right mind
would say that. Nobody. I mean, you can't say that

(08:21):
you've diminished everyone. That's like asking Adam Silver, you know
what with Lebron James, what do you really think of
his career? Well, here's what I think. You gotta be
damn thankful, damn thankful we let him play, because since
we did, he had a good career and made all
this money. Who would say that your partners, if the

(08:44):
players don't play, you have nothing. Now you could make
this argument. I would not agree with it, but you
could make it. All right, So the WNBA goes away
because nobody really cares. The WNBA has finally made an
appearance on the sports scene. It's been around forever, but
now people talk about it. They should have been the

(09:07):
other way around. Thank you Caitlin Clark for taking us
to a different level. You know, much like and I
keep going back to it, but much like thank you
Magic and Bird because the NBA. I mean a lot
of people were not old enough to understand that. But
in nineteen eighty the NBA was a mess. It was

(09:30):
a mess before Magic and Bird came in and they
changed the league, and the league embraced it. They embraced
everything about it, the individualities of those guys, the personalities,
all of those things, the rivalry, the competition. They embraced it.
They didn't say, hey, well, Bird and Magic, Hey they

(09:52):
ought to be thinking us. Could you imagine just when
you put it like that, Just when you put it
like that, does it not emphasize the absurdity of what
the commissioner said, just putting it like that, Magic and
Bird Christ they don't thank us. They had a pass.

(10:13):
As a matter of fact, given what we did for them.
Oh god, they might not be a league today. I mean,
it was not going it was. It was a struggle.
Everybody you talked to, talk to people that you know,
look just look three what five years ago with the
WNBA wasn't getting ready to fold. It was getting ready.

(10:33):
It was not making it teams the NBA teams that
was they were losing money. They wanted out. Yes, wow, okay,
well we'll see how that plays out. How long is
she going to remain commissioner? Oh she got about another
five minutes, don't you think. I don't think she recovers
from that. Now, maybe it's different than the w NBA

(10:55):
and they look at things differently. If the board doesn't,
then the players are gonna revolt. They gonna players are
going to go we got to get her out of there.
That's what will happen. Huh, And I think it's already
swelling a little bit with that. That's what will happen. Yeah, okay,
because now these WNBA owners. Yeah, when the franchises were
worth nothing, you might lose money, but how much would

(11:15):
you lose? Really, you wouldn't lose a lot because they
weren't worth anything. Now they are worth something. Now they
could lose money. And now you're right, Rodney, that's what's
going to happen. The board is going to sit down
and go, well, you know, let's have a conversation. Can
we have your resignation or the players will revolt? Yeah,

(11:38):
and the owners will be upset because now they will
lose real money. Yeah. That's what you know is once
you start making money, that's it. You don't want to
go back to losing money. No, all right, well I'm
glad we've solved that problem. Yeah, we did. We solve
the world's problems. Here we'll go off script. Salty come

(11:59):
in here next. Let's do a little NBA. Come on,
salt Salty A joins us. Oh, Ronnie got it tomorrow, firn.
Yeah that's Billy Preston on a throwback Thursday. Right to
Pete fred Road again. Now it is fida to one.

(12:22):
I believe Detroit what you said scores for to one,
six to one, six to one since the one. Now, yeah,
Tigers are gonna wrap that up. Yeah I had a pause,
but yeah, sixth to one now, yeah, six having a
great series. And I'd love to see it because it's
my guy. It's Hobby Bias. Hobby Bias turned it back around,
didn't he.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
He?

Speaker 1 (12:41):
He bursted on the scene as a you know, superstar
young player, cocky kid playing in the in Chicago with
the Cubs, helped them win a World Series there, then
had some tough years after that and they shipped him
off man and he is he has been great for Detroit.
It's supposed to show you sometimes, you know, just a
change of scene. Sometimes it works for you, and he

(13:03):
got the right manager. And I know everybody was saying,
I hate him, I hate him, I hate him. But A. J.
Hinch is actually a really good manager. No he is. Yeah,
he is a good manager. And Hobby Baias he was
left for dead. Yeah, I mean it's like there's a rebirth.
He was not awful. He reminds me he is this

(13:25):
latest generations. Well, I liken it to Robinson cano Remember
Robinson Canoe with the Yankees, superstar, just talent oozing out
of him where with little effort, just had it. I
can remember small conversations with Derek Jeter about him and
how good he was and how talented he was. And

(13:47):
then he signs the big deal to go to Seattle, right,
and never to be heard from.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah, he vanished. Yeah, it's like you've been kidnapped, ye,
or he went in to witness protection somewhere somewhere. But
it's similar to Hobby Bias when he bursts on the
scene with the Cubs. He was a superstar, had all
the charisma and the swag and all of that. Everybody
loved them. They won a world series all then, like
you said, left for dead. Yeah, and then now he's

(14:13):
resurrected himself, so it's pretty cool, all right, salty A
Adam Austling here fn A eleven am two pm Sunday
mornings FSR or or Saturday morning.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
I can't wait till you fill in for us. Fred,
you're in for cabin legs say he's never gotten there? Right, No,
technically it was right eleven pm to two am.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I did it backwards Pacific time. Right.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Well, I saw we cross over from Friday into Saturday.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Morning, Friday to Saturday morning.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Okay, alright, Fox Sports Football Saturday fn A on FSR.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
You guys are killing it too, aren't you?

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Fred?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
We are You've you've gotten some tweets your way once
Fred coming on?

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Once he coming on, Rodney came on already.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yeah, apparently Webby you know I'm I'm not in.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Well, we can't do it this week, great co sales
coming on, Fred, Sorry you got bumped.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Geez.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Next week's the week for sure, though, I swear.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yeah, but I can't do it next.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Oh, now you're around, we'll pay back there, I see.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Let's start with the clippers. Uh. The Kawhi situation. Media Day,
Ramona Shelbourne asking Kawhi questions and everything went to hell.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
What happened, Beauty, I wouldn't say it went to hell,
Fred just because she asked five questions and it turned
into a one on one interview out of nowhere, when
everybody else in the media was like, hey, I got
my hand up over here.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
They did stop that. They did, Hey, I'll stop it,
stop it, what's up? They all they all wanted Kawhi
to actually answer the question, which is why I think
they let her go and keep asking. Because Kawhi dodged
that like Dodgeball and Vince Bond.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
He dodged the wrench.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
He danced all over that bad boy, and I mean,
I'm I'm okay with it. But still I think Ramona
pressed him, and I think they all let her press
him because they all wanted to know the same thing.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Well, if I was Ramona and I'm not, I'm a
Clippers employee.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
I asked Kawhi leonarn about what his goal is for
this season? Who's that interested in that?

Speaker 1 (16:13):
No one?

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Right one throwing a lifeline after she put him under
the hot lamp.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
For second, I just.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Didn't with the Clippers. Now, are they gonna look the
first half of no one cares. No one cares.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
She got her five questions. The problem was she was
almost too good or too sophisticated with the first question
for her own good because she's asking him about the
business side of it and what was your understanding of
the contract with Aspiration? And then on the back end
she threw in very quickly, well did you do anything

(16:47):
for them? If she just said that more directly, if
she was like specifically saying, what did you endorse? What
did you promote? Was there a social media tweet? Was
there a commercial you cut that was left on the
cutting floor? Was there anything like that? And that turned
into more of a yes and no type of question.
I think that would have been more effective. But because

(17:08):
she kind of threw a lot at him at once,
he could go a different direction with it. He could
dodge it like the matrix a little bit. But obviously
they're not going to answer it, like there's an NBA
investigation going on right now and everybody understands that. So
I actually thought Kawhi talked a little bit more than
I thought he would about it. I thought he'd come
right out and say I'm not gonna answer any questions

(17:28):
about it. There's an NBA investigation, but he did a
little bit, but it was still a little bit evasive
as you would expect, and there wasn't anything that was
concrete coming from Kawhi to Ramona there.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
All right, So nobody's gonna say anything about it.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
I mean, we're gonna have to wait till probably there's
a report out there that the NBA is not gonna
get done with this till after the All Star Game
because awkward, it's added into a dome. The Clippers are
hosting the All Star Game, So they gonna come down
with a punishment against the Clippers should they be found
guilty of salary caps circumvention for the team that is
hosting the All Star Game in February. No, they'll probably

(18:03):
wait till afterwards. If there is going to be a punishment.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
The punishment is going to be. Okay, it's not being
hosted at into it now, it's going to be hosted
at the crypt Oh.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
God, check out those Lakers banners. There's the punishment.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Yes, all right. So but aside from that, as we begin,
I like the Clippers roster this year, Adam last thing.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
That's the thing that what has flown under the radar.
Now is just how good this Clippers team could be
when you.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Account for this. Start with this.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Kawhi played just thirty seven games last season. They still
won fifty. Their backup center was.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
You say that like it's a shock though, Adam.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Okay, thirty seven, I mean that's pretty low. We played
sixty eight the year before. At least Rodney Come on, now,
we thought he was going to play at least half
of the year.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
That's less than happen.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I guess you're right.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Well, but he's coming into training camp, he's fully healthy.
He's looked great so far apparently. And then go to
their backup center last season was Mobamba and Kai Jones.
Now they have a starting level center behind of Eatcha
Zubots who's only getting better.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
In brook Lopez.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Then you bring in the four, the athletic four that
can shoot from the outside they were missing for so
long in John Collins, who fans were clamoring for for years.
Lawrence Frank went out and got him. It took them
trading Norman Powell. But guess what they were able to
get Bradley Beal for cheap because he was bought out
by the Phoenix Suns. So really it's like you lost
Norman Powell for John Collins and Bradley Beal and then

(19:30):
the cherry on top. CP three is back with the Clippers,
who played eighty two games last season and started all
eighty two San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
I'm not going to start jumping on I'm not eighty
good Fred Gaines. No, and that's what I was gonna say.
That's what's important for people to remember. He played eighty
two games last year.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
At the age of forty. He was good.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
He had the best plus minus advanced minutes out there
with Wemby out of anybody of the San Antonio Spurs.
He was very good. So he's obviously played with James
Harden before with the Houston Rockets. Now he's backing him up.
This team is deep, they're loaded, they're healthy.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
Are they cool? I mean, come on now, oh yay.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
I asked James Harden on media day what was your
relationship like post the Houston Rockets tenure with CP three
and how excited are you to be back united with
him now with the Clippers, and he said there was
a relationship. It wasn't like we were super close, because
I'm not close with anybody that's outside of my team
once they leave.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
That's just the way it is. He's a competitor like that.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
But I've seen him laughing and having fun. Now as
training camp started up on Tuesday, they're good. They're good
to go. So I think everybody and what they've been
stressing is we've done all the individual stuff. We've got
all these accolades, We've done it all except win a
championship for a lot of these guys, so most of
them are of the same collective mindset. Who cares about

(21:00):
the individual stats. Let's come together, Let's find a way
to stay healthy, and if we're healthy, we have a
chance to win it all.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
All right, Let's flip over to the Lakers. Now, I
know there's talk Lebron they're bringing them along slowly. To me,
that is not a big deal at all. What do
you expect? Yeah, forty one in December? Yeah, what do
you expect? It's like whoa, everybody should know we're gonna
bring him along slow. Why would you do anything but that.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
He's got a glute issue apparently, But whatever, if he
plays one preseason game or he doesn't play any, but
he's ready for opening night, that's all.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
You need.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
And if he's only ramping up still the first two
months of the season where you're keeping his minutes.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Down, who cares.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Everything comes down to how you're gonna be judged in
the playoffs, and that's when you want Lebron James at
his best.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
This isn't hard to figure out. I think it's a
smart plan for them.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
It makes a ton of sense, especially because you got
a training camp now with Luka Doncic, who has apparently
lost they're saying twenty five pounds. The end of last season,
he apparently ballooned up to two seventy. Now he's at
two forty four. That's what he showed up as in
Oh plotswist Nico Harrison, Guess who gained weight? Anthony Davis

(22:06):
is up fifteen pounds. Did you guys see that? Ad
looks a little chunky, looks a little barrel chested out
there now, he says with the Dallas Mavericks, Oh, he
comes in a little bit heavier because he's gonna lose
the weight as the season goes along.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
No, very interesting though, I've never seen him as big.
So what is Nico Harrison gonna trade him?

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Because apparently any guy that gains weight there no matter
how good they are, just like he did with Luka Doncic. Oh,
they don't have the Mamba mentality. These guys aren't in
elite peak conditioning. Well, I don't know that was his
reasoning for trading Luka Doncic. So he's gonna do the same.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
With the reason the only one. All right, come on,
I don't agree with him often, but I think Rodney's right.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
None of them, none of them are good enough. Reason.
I'm sorry he's still the trader is ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
I agree uh on the Laker front, and I'm sure
you you discussed this before, but just the extension for JJ. Oh, God,
you know Fred, I know you did. I didn't hear it.
I want to hear it. The extension for JJ. Your

(23:13):
thoughts on that and why because Fred went off. I
think we did two hours on that. I don't know
if we did two hours, but yeah, go ahead at him.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
It was an extended show.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Apparently after the extension what he signed through twenty thirty.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Now, I think what the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Are trying to do for the first time in a
long time is project stability. We have a foundation here
because Luka Doncis apparently is signed off. He's all in
with JJ. He's saying he wants to end his career
with him. That's how you get the extension going.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Yeah, you fall in love until you don't.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Well, your star player likes him. They played together in
Dallas for a season. It makes sense. Is that part
of the reason Luca also signed an extension this summer,
because that's what's the most important thing.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Yeah, No, it's nothing to JJ didn't have any to
do with that. No, I'm just saying no. But what
I'm saying is this, JJ had three years left on
his deal, right, Luca signed a three year deal. Right, Okay,
why you pulled? Why are you making a decision now?
You can easily extend JJ after next season with two

(24:15):
years left. So you've rewarded a guy and extended him
for making some playoff mistakes, getting into the playoffs, but
learning on the job, and now we're gonna give you
a longer deal. No, I don't think that's it at all.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with you. When a
guy has three more years and he's a sophomore head coach,
let's see how good he is. First, Well, I do
think overall was a very successful rookie campaign from him,
despite what happened in the playoffs, because I think a
lot of that was just poor roster construction where he
didn't trust anybody and didn't have a big man out

(24:49):
there and couldn't play Jackson Hayes anymore. So then he
just played all his starters the second half of that
game four.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
It was a little bit unorthodox.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
But also there's no guarantee that if he doesn't do that,
they win the game or something, because he's playing some
of the guys that he didn't want to play that
probably shouldn't have played. So that was a roster issue
more on the coaching issue to me. But I hear you, Fred,
he's got three more years, but make him proof.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
I'll also say that that players know, and obviously they
have a good relationship, and I'm sure Lebron and he
JJ have a good relationship. So players players know, like
outside looking at and we looked at it and go,
what is he doing? Why? You know, why is he
But to your point at him, he had he was
handcuffed and he had to do what he had to do.
Otherwise maybe they have no shot, right which they didn't,

(25:36):
but they have even worse of a shot. So from
my standpoint, sometimes players will go to back for the
coaches because they don't want to see what happens in
sports so often today is an ownership has a quick trigger, right,
and they want to fire a guy after a year
or two or whatever. And that has been the trend

(25:56):
in in all different leagues. And so to base shut
that down, I'm betting there was some backdoor conversation. It's like,
let the guy just be here, let him be here
and build something here, and let's not have a quick
trigger finger, and let's give some stability.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
As you mentioned, it's kind of like, and I know
this is different, especially in today's era of college football
with nil and portals and everything, but a coach would
always be signed up for at least four years, so
when he goes out to recruit, he can tell young
players that, hey, you're gonna be with me the entire time, right,

(26:35):
whether or not that was actually going to be the case.
The coach may move on to a better job and
maybe using that school as a stepping stone or anything
like that. But you just want to show we're not dysfunctional,
and they look like it at times. Frank Vogel got
let go two years after winning a championship. Darvin Ham
only lasted two years. Now they want to establish a
culture and a program and they're saying this is the

(26:57):
JJ Reddick era. We stand on that right now, right
or wrong? Fred, I think that's at least they're rationale there,
and I'm not gonna say it's completely illogical.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
No, I hear what you're saying. But the JJ Reddick
era is underway. There was four years. He signed for
four years to create the era. They could have extended
him after the second year, after the third year. Yeah,
but they're sending a message. Fred. With that, I'm saying,
they're sending a messag you could have done that and
probably was a smart business decision to wait. But I

(27:30):
think that, you know, to Adam's point, it's like we've
we've got a recent history of a quick trigger on
our coaches. Yeah, but take that out of the equation.
We're going to extend them. Okay, So what we're gonna
do is we're gonna protect him from us, given the
fact that we'll fire somebody every ten minutes, We'll just
extend his deal. So we can't afford to fire him.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Yes, it could also say if I'm a Laker fan,
I wouldn't like to hear this that we don't have
the same level of urgency like we have had in
the past. And that's also evident by the fact that
they haven't traded those first round picks. You know, they
still have the picks and the Dalton connect trade for
a big man that was eventually rescinded with what's his name,

(28:13):
Mark Williams Now with Phoenix like they are taking their
time to build something appropriately because they have a star
who's only twenty seven and they feel like they have
a wider window now, so it's not win or busts
or championship or bus like it typically is with the
Lakers organization. By having JJ Reddick on a five year deal,

(28:34):
it takes a little bit of that pressure off and
just showing that no, we have a way, we're gonna
do this, We're gonna grow with him, and we have
a young superstar that also is comfortable doing that.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
I think DeAndre Aton will be in a good.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
He's saying all the right things.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
I know actions speak louder than words, of course, Fred,
but he is saying all the right things. When he
comes out at media day, is like people are saying
that this could be my last chance, last chance you
for him or whatever, because he's on this small contract
and he has all the incentive in the world to
ball out this season, and he has the capabilities to
he He's never lived up to the hype because, first

(29:11):
of all, he came into a situation, yes, where he
was under the microscope by Fred Rogan fault.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Fred put him on the hot seat the Wildcats. You said,
you said it then, you didn't like him.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
I did say it then, And what was the reasoning, Freddy?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
I didn't like his attitude? I didn't I saw him
playing college.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
I didn't like his attitude, Like I hate the face type.
I just don't. There something I don't like about this guy.
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
By the way, he's got a face. And so far
have I been wrong? No? Not wrong?

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Yeah, but you could be proven wrong this season.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
He could well outperform the eight million dollars or whatever
they're paying him with the Lakers, and that was a
big get for them because they lost out on Brook Lopez,
who they were looking at, who went across town to
the Clippers. Obviously he could outperform his contract, and he could.
He could easily do that playing next to Luka Doncic.
Everything is set up for him to have a career

(30:06):
type of season they need him desperately to, and especially
on the defensive end. I have no issues with the
Lakers and what they're gonna be on the offensive end.
They're gonna be a top ten probably top five offense.
How good they can they be on the defensive end, well,
A lot of that is about your defensive anchor and
your center position in DeAndre Ayton, who has the ability to.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
But it's about.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Buying in now. It's about actually wanting to. And when
you have that pressure of being a Laker and knowing
what the expectations typically are, you know it's either gonna
go one way or the other. It's gonna go really
good or really poorly. I think overall he's gonna be
a good signing for them, and he's going to perform.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
I do.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
I just think there's too many reasons for him to
get up for this season individually and then to be
seen in a different light where people like Fred Rogan
can get off his ass for once.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Under pressure too of playing with Lebron and playing with
Luca is gonna change him a little bit.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
There's too many paths for him to succeed this time,
where it's like he'd really have to be trying to
sabotage his own career if he doesn't have a good
year with the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Now, all right, Adam, thanks for hanging. I appreciate it.
All right, Love you guys, Love you. Let's go, Ronnie,
all right, we're back to wrap this up. I'm just
flies on a throwback Thursday. Playing is a wild thang.
My tone Low Rodney, Pete, fred Rogan, come on, Freddy.

about who the Dodger closer should be and we had
a fascinating conversation with Angelo. Did we come to a
conclusion on that closer? Yeah? It Suzaki he's gonna roll

(32:03):
with him. Huh. That's it. Well, that's what everybody said,
roll with Saki, roll of Sazaki, and if anybody else,
I think, where does Kirby Yates fit into this picture? Now?
You know what? He should? Just take it easy. No
reason to rush back, no reason to rush back. You're fine, No,

(32:23):
you're fine. Just chill. Appreciate everything you did this year.
You've had a great year. Chill for now. Yeah, there's
if we you know, one of these, we'll call you.
It's one of those. If we need you, we're gonna
call you. You can still come hang out. Don't worry
about that. First Tan or Scott's gonna catch the opening ceremonial,

(32:46):
open first pitch now, if we need you, yeah, don't
worry about it. Take it easy. Wow. Uh okay, well
that's it. Ronnie, Thank you, great senior, really great, great
seeing you. You know, I'm in here so much. It's
like you see me every day anyway. So it was great. Adam,
he did a wonderful job filling in for Kevin producing today.

(33:09):
Adam actually tried so it made it nice. Whoa after you? Fred? Okay?
That mean I don't know?

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (33:15):
And Rodney will get him tomorrow. Fred was seeing about
another six months if you're lucky,
