Speaker 1 (00:01):
And we'll continue on. Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete, and I
am five to seventy LA Sports five o'clock Toronto and Seattle.
By the way, I guess I know who's won the game.
So if anybody wants to know, I'll tell you now,
or you want to be in suspense because apparently I
have found out who has won this game. I know
who's won. You better save that, Freddy, We'll talk about that. Yeah,

(00:27):
save it, all right, I'll save that. Let's bring on
now our good friend Bob Nightingale from USA today. Bob,
good afternoon to you.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, doing good. How about you guys doing well?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Bob?

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Okay, here's what I think. First, I think Toronto wins tonight.
I think Toronto at least gives the Dodgers somewhat of
a battle. I think if Seattle wins, a Dodgers murder them.
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I agree with you. I think to be a better team,
great offense, whole, international player and the whole. You know,
bringing back go Tommy was he not being on playing
in Toronto. I think it'd be an entertaining series where
I gotta think sal if they won, would be wiped out.
Then they gotta go all the way to Los Angeles.

(01:14):
Uh yeah, I think it'd be a better series against
Blue Jays.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, you know, Fred said that earlier. I tend to
agree with him. I don't like to agree with them
too much. But but yeah, you know, like you said,
you know, and then you factor in the Seattle, the
grueling series that they've had. They played that fifteen inning
game against Detroit. I mean, it's they they feel like
a team that's worn out. I'll be surprised if they

(01:41):
if they're able to get out of that tonight. Uh
but uh, Bob. Overall, when you look at the Dodgers
and what they've done in this postseason from a national perspective,
because there was a pomp, there was a moment where
there were chinks in the armor and everybody felt the
Dodgers were really beatable. And you know, you go through
excuse me, August and September and and the Dodgers weren't

(02:05):
playing that well and they were unhealthy, and then they
get all their guys back and they looked like the
monster team that everybody thought they were going to be
before the season started. What is the perspective of the
Dodgers from a national standpoint as they entered into the
World Series.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Now, yeah, it's just like the you know, the regular
season just a dress rehearsal for them. They know they're
going to be there, and you know, they can take
their time getting things right. We look at their starting rotation,
every is fresh. Yamamoto is the only guy's in the
rotation that's on over ninety innings. Uh, you know, it's
no sixty some innings, you know, or twany forty some

(02:40):
innings class not that many. So yeah, it's almost like,
you know, they build themselves to win October. They know
they're going to get there anyway through the regular season.
And I think just like a year ago, you know,
the World Series was against the San Diego Fadres, and
I think this year, you know, hey, that World Series
was against the Philadelphia Phillies. Whoever won that series is

(03:01):
going to win at all.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, you said you wrote that Otani's Game four performance
the best single game performance in the history of the sport.
I don't think there's any argument about Ted Bob. Can
you think of anything that might come close.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Well, there's a couple. I mean, I do think there's
Brendan Reggie's three home runs, all those three straight pitches
was unbelievable regular season, but because this regular season, you know,
Rick Weist, the Phillies struck up you know, I don't
know how many struck up a hit, two home runs
and threw a no hitter, you know, that sort of thing.
But here's you know, three home runs and six shed

(03:39):
at innings and tennis shrankouts in a game that won
the pennant just with the things that were on the line. Yeah,
I don't I don't think anything could be bigger.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, He've a lot of talk lately, especially with with
the other owners around the league, and as the Dodgers
are kind of have been rolling through these playoffs so far.
We got to get the salary cap. See, the Dodgers
spend way too much money. That's unfair advantage, and we
got to get a salary cap in here to level

(04:09):
the playing field. Your thoughts on that, because obviously out
here we're like, that's what the owners should do.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Right, I mean obviously they you know, they're making money,
they're spending money, but you know what they do, uh,
you know there's teams like you know, the Chicago Cubs
have not spent the money that they're raking in the
Mets do and look with it, you get the Mets
even make the playoffs. You know, the Yankee spent a ton.
They have one of the World Series this two thousand
and nine. So yeah, you have an advantage. Better teams

(04:39):
have advantaged too and have it won. So no. I mean,
you know the thing too that sticks out nobody talks
about is you know how great the Dodgers wrapped. Now.
These guys are drafting last or next to last every
single year. And why are the guys they you know,
they drop better than the the other guys in the
first round. It's just amazing the job they do scouting

(05:00):
in the player development, and anybody can have those people.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Here's the thing that bothers me when we hear the talk,
not only as Rowdney points out about the salary cap,
but you know, what do you want.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Us to do?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
I mean, it's just so unfair. What do you want
us to do? There's no way we can compete here.
This is insanity. They should be penalized. I'm thinking, you
know what, there's so much more to it than how
much money you spend. Now, they invest in the front
office and infrastructure. Other teams don't do it like that,
and we both know that, but to hear people say

(05:33):
it to me, it seems like disingenuous.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
It seems as if.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
We can't do what you do, so you're bad, so
you should be like us. You you should be rained
in to be like us because we don't have the
resources or the intelligence to be you.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 4 (05:55):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, I mean it's crazy. A lot of it just
a you know, just people are envious member and you
know they asked price Harper anyway. Do you think about
the Dodgers and the big pay roll. It is good
for them that the Marvel franchise. You know, people want
to play for the Dodgers. They do things right there. Uh,
and they do. You know what people forget too, is
that you look at a lot of those star guys.

(06:17):
I mean Mookie Bets. Anybody could trade for Mooki bets
and the Dodgers did.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Freddie Freeman in Atlanta said, Okay, we don't want to
get that price. Anyby could have been for him, and
they did. It was an outrageous price. So you know,
they get guys like you know, Blake trying off a
h off waivers and things like that. It's amazing that
just the job they do with scouting development, and that
doesn't take money. It just takes that ingenuity.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yeah, and on top of that, the things that they
invest back into the community, into the fan base, into
the team, into the stadium, all of those things matter.
It's not like they're just spending, but they're investing it
back into the team. And I know, like bry Harper said,
they're a model franchise. Guys talk. Guys in the league,

(07:03):
they obviously talk. Blake Snell said it. Who wouldn't want
to be a Dodger? I mean what they do here,
how they run this organization. Who wouldn't want to be
a Dodgers? Don't you think other owners? First of all,
I've always said, especially now lately, don't own the team.
If you are going to be cheap or you're not
going to spend the money, don't own a franchise. It's

(07:26):
not nineteen sixty where it's the family money and you
gotta pinch every penny. Don't own the team. And so
when they look up and see the Dodgers got the
own the players only playing, they spend all that money
on the new clubhouse this year, even the visitors. Clubhouse
is state of the art, all the things that they do,
they renovate the stadium. It is more than just player

(07:47):
salaries that the Dodgers do. They do everything and that's
what players see and players want to be a part
of Bob.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yes, absolutely, it's a great recruiting tool. Why you know
that they're in that in and a lot of guys,
you know, but they don't they uh you know, they're
not like the Mets, you know, offered you know, seven
sixty five million to you know, Juan Soto. The Dodgers
run there, but they weren't going to do something crazy. Uh,
let's face it, all the talk about Sho joey Otani.
Uh if the if the Angels had matched it, he

(08:19):
would be an Angel today. Uh. He was very comfortable
in Anaheim. They just don't want to pay seven hundred million,
even though still deferred. Uh, you know, Toronto did, other teams.
Everybody could have had Sasaki, uh you know for you know,
six and a half million dollars, but you know, he said, hey,
you know what I want, I want to be a Dodger.
So a lot of times everybody wants to go to

(08:39):
a winner, and uh, so that's when the Dodgers have
been on top of you know, everybody's wish list, you know,
even with the high taxes in California.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Who wins tonight, Seattle or Toronto?

Speaker 2 (08:52):
I go Toronto. Uh, and they got Shane Bieber for
a reason. The only uh, you know, you missed the
whole season and just come back and say no, we're
to gamble on you. And uh so no, I think
I think it'd be you know, cool to see that.
I mean that country's going crazy. You know, I remember
what it was like in the World Series and text
earlier with Joe Carterer he says it's more nervous now

(09:14):
they was when he when he played up there, so uh,
feeling canner and going absolutely ballistic and how they be
a fun World Series, which not that it wouldn't be
against the man Nurse, but I think they'd been really
a fund against the Blue Jazz.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Not to get ahead of ourselves, because we out here
obviously believe the Dodgers is going to win it again.
They've kind of rolled and it doesn't feel like whoever
they play, even though you know we've the consensus is
Toronto would be you know, the more difficult matchup for
the Dodgers, not saying that they wouldn't win it, but
more difficult. How with the guys that they have, Bob,

(09:47):
and the guys that are locked up on this team already,
especially the Stars, this is a run that could happen
and go not just this year, but three or four
years past this.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, I mean, you know, spending a long time. Someone
won three in a row. But yeah, I mean not
like anybody's uh, you know, about to be over the
hill or anything like that. Uh, you know, those pitchers
they shouldn't retire next year because he answered that many
innings this year. Uh, you know, they could use a
little outfield help. But uh, you know maca Conferno, you know,
had struggles, so he won't be back, and you know,

(10:24):
why not why not reach out and try to go
get a you know, a Kyle Tucker from you know,
from the Cubs or something like that.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Oh, people would go crazy, Bob, if they signed Kyle
Tucker in the off season. You know, the whole world
would go crazy. I would see what the Dodgers do
they went and signed Kyle Tucker. Oh my god, they
would go crazy, don't you think.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, yeah, what what they did with the bullpen and
they say, oh, man, what do you need all these
closes for? Then you know everybody went bully up. So
you just don't know, you know, you can't count on
you know, injuries are going to happen. Who knows what
happens next year sort of thing. But yeah, their eyes
on the Dodgers. But everybody thought the Mets were going
to ruin baseball. You know, they're not even making the playoffs,

(11:06):
so you got to be smart.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
At the same time, Hey, Bob, quick shift here. You
reported Angels Albert Poole Hols might have been the front
runner for the managerial position. Then you're reported he no
longer is the foot runner for the managerial position. What
is going on with the Angels? And I heard pool
Holes may be talking to people in San Diego. What
do you know about all of it?

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Yeah, he was talking to Arnie Marino and stuff. I
couldn't agree on money and just you know, coaches and
that sort of thing. So it never really came close.
I will not be surprised at all to see another
former Angel end up there, Tory Hunter. Tory Hunter is
very big in the mix. There be kind of wild
to see pool Holes and see diego, you know, after

(11:48):
they just you know, kind of let go of part
of ways with a former cardinal and Mike Shildt, I
think he'd be great in that clubhouse kind of being
a you know, a good leader obviously knows the stars
are well, whether it's Tatist or Machado in Baltimore's got
an interest too. Uh, you know, he lives in New
York area, in Miami and Dominican. He's you know, got

(12:09):
places everywhere out east. I think it's pretty cool to see,
you know, teams re out reach out and thats you'll
be the first seven hundred running there'll ever be a
majorleage manager.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Isn't it interesting if the Angel's name Poolthols their manager.
You think the Angels are the cheapest team in the world.
Why would this guy do this? And uh, of course
that's what the Angels would do. If the Padres name
of managers, you go, you know what, Now, that's a
good idea. He can get along with players, he can communicate,
he's a winner. And it's just funny to hear you

(12:41):
speak about it because the Padres obviously will give him
some sort of infrastructure which the Angels won't But isn't
that funny when you think about it, if the Angels.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Sign was like, what a joke?

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Arty, you go on shoe string Padre signed him and he goes, man,
that's a great hire.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, I mean you're right in a sense where I
think he went to the Angels is okay, it's a
PR move. He's spent ten years, there's personal services contract,
good relationship, Guardy Marino. But you know it's not a
PR move. Goes to San Diego. The team's already built
to win. As I go, oh, it's kind of going
on to the box here, you know, grabbing a guy
who's never done it, never coached in the big leagues

(13:20):
and try this. So no, you're just right, just two
different narratives, even though these same job.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Bob, we appreciate you coming on. Thank you for the insight.
We'll see you during the.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
World Series, all right, look forward to it.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Thanks running all right, good buddy, Bob, Nightingale USA today.
By the way, I do know who's gonna win to
night and I've done it. I have a very scientific approach.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Are you interested?

Speaker 1 (13:44):
I'm extremely interested that you know this because the game
has yet to start and I'm looking at money lines
here and I'm trying to place my bet, fret, so yeah,
please enlighten me.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
That's simple.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Looked up tickets on stub up for the World Series.
They've got the Mayor playing the Dodgers in Game one. Done,
chick stumb up, nose stub hope. They got the Mariners
played the Dodgers in Game one, Friday, Unit of the state. Yeah,
well you think that has anything to do? If the
Mariners win, it's at Dodger Stadium and they can get

(14:17):
those prices up and jack them up right away. If
the Blue Jays win, they got to wait, you know,
two games in Toronto before they come back to LA.
Well that could be the case, or it could be
I just believe what they say, because if somebhib says
it's going to happen. Yeah, you can get tickets right
now for the Mariners series Game one.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Now.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
Granted, if you look on stub up and go to Toronto,
they're also selling Game one tickets, so I think they're
probably just hedging a little bit there, Fred, That's.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
What you know what, that's my point. There's some fraud
going on here.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Oh is that what it is?

Speaker 5 (14:51):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (14:52):
And I think we need to expose it.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
I'm sick of people being taken advantage of Kevin, and
I'm glad we had a chance to bring this in
to the light. I'm glad you're the uh, you're the police,
Fred when it comes to people getting taken advantage of Fred.
I don't think you understand. I don't think you understand.
You know who we are, one team, one dream, That's
who we are. We take care of each other.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
All right.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Oh, when we come back the return of a classic,
m Yes, I gotta ask you a question. When we
come back to Fred. You're the media guy and the
ratings and rights guy and all that kind of stuff.
I got an interesting question for you. All right, we'll
do it.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
Yeah, Hello Rogan and Robbie listener. Did you know Am
five seventy LA Sports has a wide range of LA
Sports podcasts, shows like Petros in Money. We are streaming
Matt Dodger Talk with David Vasse.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
Clipper Talk with Adam Moss, follow us all and many more.
Just go to AM five seventy LA Sports on the
hard radio Whip.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Uh oh uh oh huh oh uh oh. Now you
know how you gotta end it. You're gonna You're gonna
play Drake right now. You're claiming that Theronald Blue Jay
is gonna win tonight. So got a little Drake going

(16:25):
on right now as we come back. But you better
end it with some La dre snoop Ken Drake, somebody
Rodney p Fred Rogan on the Monday Let's go. You
got a question before we move on? I did, but
I'll wait. I'm gonna wait on that one, Fred, You're
gonna wait. Uh yeah, the more I thought about it,
I gotta wait.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Wait.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
All right.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Now we're gonna return to something that we did for
a while and it's been missing. It's a quick look
at what's going on. Get you caught up on everything
that's happened, and we'll comment on all of it with
the return of It's Lit.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
Live Stories lighting up their sports headboxers guy.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
So he just discussed this with Bob Nightingale a few
minutes ago, the fact that aur Pouhols no longer the
front runner to be the manager for the Angels. He
did bring this up that Tory Hunter, Kurtzuzuki, guys that
have been close to the organization but not necessarily an
official coaching roles of any sort. I guess does it matter.
I mean, you go from Ron Washington, who was a
veteran who's taken the Rangers of the World Series, had
a lot of success, and now the pendulum is swinging

(17:27):
towards the young guy who doesn't necessarily have a lot
of experience. I guess, considering how that franchise has been
for the past decade, does it actually even matter who
the manager is?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Fred, No, it doesn't matter at all. Here's a problem.
They're not in it to win it. They're really not
HARDI Mourano can't win in.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
This environment in today's world.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
If you get one of the jobs, consider yourself lucky
because you're the manager of a big league club. But
you ultimately know what's going to happen. I mean, you're
the manager of the age. You're the manager of the
White Sox, that's who you're the manager of. You're the
manager I mean of Pittsburgh, of a bad Baltimore team.

(18:09):
It doesn't matter. The manager's not going to make the difference.
The organization needs to change and until it does, Kevin,
you can be the manager.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
And there's no exact science. There's not.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
I mean, we've seen managers that have gone through the
ranks and been bench coaches and we've sent in the
NFL guys have been coordinators coordinators for years, and all of.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
A sudden, they hey, he's the next guy.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
We need to elevate him to the head coach because
he's been a coordinator for years, and they become a
head coach and it's a flop and it's a disaster.
So there's there's again no exact science. You got to
find the right guy, the guy that understands it, and
years in the business should not matter. If you feel

(18:54):
like this is the guy that can relate to the players,
that can motivate the team and you really get the
the organization on the right track, it shouldn't matter how
many years he's spent, you know, managering in the minor
leagues and Triple A, Double A or whatever it may be.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
If he's your guy, go with your guy.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
We'll go to the NFL. Now, some controversy out there
in New York with the Jets as far as their
quarterback situation. Justin Fields is than the starter and got
off to a great start in Week one against Pittsburgh
and then since then he had the injury has been inconsistent,
as he has been his entire career. Aaron Glynn, speaking
of a coordinator who got elevated to head coach, is
not necessarily doing too well at h and seven right now,

(19:33):
and it's kind of going back and forth as to
what to do at quarterback. You have the veteran as
Toarrod Taylor that took over in the second half last
yesterday against Carolina didn't make much of a difference, although.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
To move the ball better.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
I guess the question for you, Rodney, You're a former
quarterback and played for a lot of different teams, and
a lot of people like Justin Field's coming out. But
I saw stat earlier today. He has the worst winning
percentage in NFL history with any quarterback that had fifty
or more starts. I mean, do we think is a
circumstantial with him or are we at a point in
time where we just say he he is not a
starting level quarterback in the.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Time, I do think it's bad. He just got a
bad hand dealt to him. I liked him a lot
coming out of Ohio State, I really did. I thought
his couple last couple of years there where they went
to the playoffs and he uh, you know, they struggled
that one year, and then he came back and valed
that they would get after Clemson and they did.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
And I just I like his skill set.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
I just think he in Chicago, bad bad organization with
bad coaching surrounded him, and you know, then he was
dealt a bad hand in Pittsburgh where he was doing
well and got bench when he was winning, had a
winning record and could have been a situation where he
resurrected his career, but they decided to go with Russell

(20:46):
Wilson and he never saw the field again, and that
was that was unfortunate. Goes to the Jets, another dysfunctional franchise,
and it's amazing because you take his career and then
you look had a guy like Sam Darnell who started
with the Jets but then found a way to get
himself to San Francisco in a great organization with a

(21:08):
great offensive coach, and then he gets to Minnesota with
another good organization with a great offensive coach, and now
he's thriving in Seattle. It's just I think skill set wise,
those guys are very similar. It's just the situations that
they were plopped in makes the difference, and it's tough
on Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
I feel it's unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
I think the biggest shocker of his whole story is
Tyrod Taylor still playing.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
He's on his eighteenth teams.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
I mean to me, that's the most stunning.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Part of the entire thing.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
You had to think he was done when the Chargers
tried to give him an injection to his rib cage
and then punctured as law. Remember that, early, early, when
the Chargers were here. Yeah, yeah, remember that. Yeah, you
think we may not have saved Justin Herbert until just
this year.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Last year, You're right, Roddy, because Justin Herbert that was
his first start and it happened like within what twenty minutes.
It was like it was right before kickoff that had happened,
and all of a sudden Herbert was in there and
people were like, what the hell happened? Yeah, an objection, Yeah,
he had, he got an injection right before kickoff and
they unfortunately administered incorrectly. Well, the NBA season starts tomorrow night, Fred,

(22:22):
I don't know if you were aware of this, Yes, yes, so,
and the Lakers are on that marque against Golden State
on Peacock and NBC. So ESPN has its ranking of
the all thirty teams from one all the way to thirty,
and the Lakers and Clippers did both crack the top ten. Yes, WHOA.
I don't know if we want to play the guessing
game of where you think that they are, and we
certainly can if you want, I guess, Rodney, what was

(22:43):
your assumption as to where I'll go with the Clippers?

Speaker 2 (22:45):
First?

Speaker 5 (22:45):
What do you think the Clippers rank?

Speaker 3 (22:47):
And in the top They're both in the top ten.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
Clippers and Lakers are both in the top ten.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Clippers and the Lakers in the top ten. I'm I'm
putting the late the Clippers at six.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
Okay, Brett Oh, or just doing one at a time? Yeah,
one at a timer.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
I'm gonna say the Clippers seven, okay.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Adam Adam Auslin is in for Ronnie FOSSi. Oh, of
course you hear Adam on Clippers pre half and post
here on a five to seven y LA sports.

Speaker 7 (23:12):
So they're at the top right, number one.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
And.

Speaker 7 (23:16):
I haven't actually all right, usually don't care too much
about what the evil four letter says, but I will
go also sixth as Rodney said, you.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Guys are correct. You know you guys are correct.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Those guys are correct.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
Fred six, I said yeah, I said six, Yeah, Queen
sweet six. They are ranked six. It says their biggest
strength is their depth, adding the bo Brook Lopez, John Collins,
Chris Paul to a team that already won fifty games
last season. Now their biggest concern their age, and Adam
is talking about the the evil four letter, one of
their big pudgets. Over there, Kendrick Perkins said, quote, the

(23:52):
Clippers are the nursing home for the NBA. Uh. They
have the oldest roster in the entire league. They have
four guys that are thirty six year old. Or Kawhi
is thirty four, Bradley beul is thirty two. So the
margin for era when it comes to help is not
necessarily in their favor.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
I don't know if that was.

Speaker 7 (24:09):
Can we point to the Golden State Warriors a little
bit with Steph Curry, Dramond, Jimmy Butler and.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Al over there? Yeah, age going on over there?

Speaker 7 (24:18):
At least have John Collins on the starting line. Ever,
at least coming off the bench for heavy minutes per game.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
At twenty eight, box is still in.

Speaker 7 (24:24):
Yeah, big is a twenty eight. How about minutes played
on the court and how old guys are?

Speaker 3 (24:30):
They're skilled?

Speaker 5 (24:33):
You talking about Chris Paul all you want. He played
eighty two games last year at thirty nine years old.

Speaker 7 (24:37):
That's impressive, Brook Lopez, I think missed three games last
season at thirty seven.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Sosive ad him?

Speaker 7 (24:45):
The hell do you think? Fred?

Speaker 3 (24:47):
All right?

Speaker 5 (24:48):
So yes, Rodney. So now we'll move to the Lakers.
So the Lakers are also ranked in the top ten.
Up there.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Here's the thing, whether it should be or what it is,
because everybody gets Laker crazy, but there's no way in
the world the Lakers should be ranked ahead of the Clippers.
So I'm going eight.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
For the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
All right, Fred, I'm gonna say eight.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Two.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Okay, Adam, what do you say?

Speaker 7 (25:07):
Fred's a copycat?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
I was gonna say it either gonna Fred first.

Speaker 7 (25:11):
I guess fine, I'll go seven.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
Then, Okay, that's probably Rodney. You're correct in that they
are not above the Clippers. They are number ten. Oh,
they are bringing up the rear. The caboose of the
top ten are the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
It says.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Their biggest strep is are offensive production from their starting
backcourt obviously Luca. You throw in Austin Reeves, Lebron James
once he actually does return, gives them a formidable trio
when it comes to that. Their biggest concern, they say,
is in the paint and whether or not DeAndre Ayton
will actually come.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
To Fred's guy.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Yeah, DeAndre Ayton is gonna shock Fred this year. That's
my prediction. Well, I heard of here and Rodney.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
That's the hope because they're predicting that if DeAndre Ayton
does turn it around, then their top caliber. But if
he doesn't, you know, there's gonna be a lot more playoffics.
It's or another playoff fixit this year like this saw
last year, or Rudy Gobert.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
That's right, can't.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Cool, But yeah, I'm I'm going against Fred who's hated
him since he went to Arizona and maybe hated him
since he had a quick stint at Sierra Canyon. Fred
hates DeAndre Ayton, hates his game, doesn't hate the person,
but hats his game, and I'm going against that. So, yeah,
I think DeAndre Ayton becomes the X factor for the

(26:20):
Lakers this year.

Speaker 7 (26:21):
Fred b DeAndre Hayden.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
That a T shirt right there.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Yeah, you know, I hope he plays well. I do,
and you know what, maybe this will be that moment,
the time where he'll get it together because leaning into
this he's been a real pain. So hopefully he's grown
up now and this is it.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
I will say, Adam, you brought up a Golden State Warriors.
They do clock in at number eight, ahead of the Lakers,
which I found to be interesting.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
I mean, the fact that Lebron James could be out
for another month or so that hurts their chances. Plus,
I just don't see a lot of solutions defensively.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
For this team. That's their biggest issue to me, outside
of the center position defense as a whole, when.

Speaker 7 (27:01):
They are fully healthy, it's still Lebron, Luca and Austin
Reeves on the court in the starting lineup. Neither of
those guys are great defenders. Lebron was their best defender
in that playoff series against Minnesota, and that's not saying
a lot. So I think that you know, their offense
is gonna be top five, their defense might be bottom ten.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
Speaking of the NBA return.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, I'm very excited because tomorrow night, you know, the
game'srun as you pointed out NBC Peacock.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
I cannot wait. They have NBC back in.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
The NBA game.

Speaker 7 (27:35):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
On Friday. Of course, we played the AI version of
the old NBC announcer, which is.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Still creepy John Tesh.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Yeah no, John Tesh did the round bow.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
He did he did the yeah, yeah, he did the
round blow rock.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
But that just the NBA on NBC tonight. That voice, yeah, yeah,
she got promotion from his a state. Yes, to use
the AI version of his voice. It's kind cool, but
also kind of creepy.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
To be honest with you, I gotta tell you, I
thought NBC always did a great job. I love Turner,
loved Turner. I thought the ESPN was awful. Yeah, I
think ABC and ESPN we talked about this like years ago.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
What about remember when.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
These games were not in prime time and they usually
show the playoff games like it after the.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Local news and on CBS.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
You owned the floor and you've ready to score, so
let the game begin begin and basketball on CB. Remember that,
Kevin we pulled that one day, that great jingle. That
was a great thing. Yeah, maybe we should pull that.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
Does that?

Speaker 1 (28:39):
I don't know how to do that great, Yes, exactly
know the old the old NBA and CBS jingle.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
NBA on CBS jingle, Yes.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
Yeah, we can pull that well since we're talking about
the NBC and Peacock and their covers starting tomorrow night,
so that's part of it. Michael Jordan has actually been
roped in. He's gonna have his own segment that's gonna
air whenever they have broadcast. It's called MJ's Insights to Excellence.
They're going to be pre taped features, but he's basically
gonna give his perspective on Today's NBA, which on NBC. Yeah,
on NBC and Peacock.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
This is signing for them absolutely.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
So he's not going to be a gay analyst or anything.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
So these are all pre tape deals that he's doing
that what interviews with guys are just this analysis.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
So what they teased last night on Sunday Night Football,
there was a sit down that he did with Mike Turrico.
So I don't know if Mike and he and Mike
just record a couple of things here and there and
they just air throughout the season. Not one hundred percent
sure how it's going to work. But if you love
Michael Jordan hating on today's NBA and talk about how
great he is. That's the person to sign up for.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
They were just sitting there holding the bats saying, I'm
taking this personally basically, and I'm here for it. To
be honest with you, I find it entertaining.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
What do you what do you think they're paying him
to do that?

Speaker 5 (29:48):
Can you pay Michael Jordan enough? I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
They are paying him bank. Hey, you know what, you
want to be a game analyst?

Speaker 3 (29:58):
I don't link.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
So you want to come to the studio? No, not really, Well,
what do you want to do? I'll get some insights.
That'll be fun, okay, and that'll be like ten million
dollars thank.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
You per insight, by the way, probably probably whatever.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
They're fans of, whatever they're paying them. Uh, it's a bargain.

Speaker 5 (30:15):
They're dropping the bucket whatever they're giving.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Them, and a bargain because the tune in it's going
to be crazy.

Speaker 8 (30:21):
Is this a song?

Speaker 5 (30:24):
You guys have to sing it?

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Intrumental?

Speaker 7 (30:26):
I think it's just for Fred to sing.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
No, is this it? Well?

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Hold on.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Because it was it was.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
No, it's got to be the open to the broadcast
open It was like very very low music, but it
was like the voices were on the floor and were
ready to school.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Let the games be all right.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
I think we actually found it. I think this might
be they're looking for.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Let's see, here we go.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
What you've got the very best shot and made the
best team win the time and down the name of
the game that shot round the th and the Betty.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
Game about.

Speaker 7 (31:27):
The down.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
And gets on.

Speaker 7 (31:38):
Right.

Speaker 8 (31:45):
Oh yeah, that was it.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
So that was that was the NBA thing. Now real quick,
pull up ron Ball Rock because they've done it before the.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
I think he's performing it live tomorrow, John Tesch.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Oh, that would be the best if he does that.

Speaker 7 (32:07):
I mean, this is the gold standard here. I know
you love that Lou jingle, Fred, that's probably no.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
No.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
When they had run Ball Rock Animal was an NBC
Holly ran into John tesh on the airport somewhere on
the plane, I believe, and he was actually very excited
about this coming back.

Speaker 8 (32:24):
This is the best.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Can they have him do this live tomorrow? Would be
too much? They would put me over the top. That
was awesome.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
You know, it's just when you heard it, you knew, yeah,
you knew.

Speaker 7 (32:51):
Now was this as good as the old XFL theme
of Fred on the call.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
The friend was getting into fights with the coaches on
the sideline and walking in on cheerleaders in the hot
tub and all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Jesse Boder Wonder, wandering into places he should not be.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Oh god, what was the guy's name from Vegas?

Speaker 1 (33:11):
Jim Kreiner or prior with the coach of the Las
Vegas team. And they tell me during the game, go
out and call him the cheater. I said, I'm not
going just go out and telling me he's a cheater.
Right now? I said, no, I'm not going up and
telling the guy during the game he's a cheater.

Speaker 7 (33:27):
You saw what happened to John Sassel that one time
with the wrestlers, right.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, it's all fake. It's all fake there at him,
it's all fake. I'm not doing it. I'm not doing that.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
And then Bob Newmark came from behind and hits you
upside the head with a chair, Right, Fred, that's how
it works, how missing manager? Enough is that Bob will
do it? Damn it.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Rest of wait, that pass screws?

Speaker 5 (33:50):
Was the guy the play about the play by play guy?
Yeah he was.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
And then after a game they took him out into
a limo and had a conversation with him.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
Oh yeah, the way Matt describes it, it was a limo
like this'spect man was sitting, but he was like in
the dark, like in a silhouette. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (34:06):
Is that the one he had explode that one time
on the beginning make his own death very.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
Film nourish, Like, Matt, this is what I need you
to do, trying to coach him up FI.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
I mean basically, well, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
So they take Matt out and they it was like
so bizarre, and then he comes back. He goes, I'm
not doing the big game anymore. They had to get
the wrestling guy do it.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
I think he had Jim Ross take over as that
one guy. Yeah, because I think Jim Ross was the
number two guy at the time.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Yeah, if you have to do the B game, Me.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
And Jane was a w c W still at the time.
Otherwise he would have been a shoe win. He would
have been number one for sure.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
Yeah, he would have been number one.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
That is it for its lip By the way, that's
flaging up headlines. I got to roped up, roped up
on the John.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Tesh No, I love it. I love it all right.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Well here if Adam has anything else to say, Adam,
when youre gonna have something else to say about something?

Speaker 7 (35:00):
Yeah after you, Fred?

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Okay, fine, bit.

Speaker 6 (35:05):
Make am five to seventy LA Sports a preset before
you plug in your foote presets in the iHeartRadio app,
now available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Just another
easy way to listen to LA's best sports talk.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Oh yeah, here we go, wrapping it up on a Monday.
We'll figure it out tomorrow. We will know who the
Dodgers are playing.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Five o'clock start tonight, Yes, five o'clock in Toronto. We've
learned they'll plunk it tweeted first, so he wins. World
Series games will all be at five five Pacific, eight Eastern.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
So that's good news. You like that.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
None of this is what three o'clock if it's on
the West coast and all that kind of stuff. Five
o'clock with no five oh eight actually be specific on
the West coast. All the games will start there. Correct again,
if you've just joined us or on you know, haven't
heard yet. Toronto wins next Friday, and oh it is

(36:06):
Friday twenty fourth, twenty fifth. It'll be in Toronto Games
one and two, then Dodgers Stadium the following week, middle
of the week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. If Seattle wins Games
one and two at Dodger Stadium Friday Saturday, then middle
of the week Games three, four, five in Seattle, and
then back at Dodger Stadium. I think the Blue Jay

(36:28):
Series first. I think the Dodgers win, not jinxing anybody.
I think everybody believes that now, So I think the
Blue Jay Series might be more entertaining, I guess because
everybody hates Otani in Canada, so that'll be fun. Not
for Otani, but it'll be fun to watch how they
deal with it. And I just think they're gonna blister them.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
But he doesn't.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
He won't even pitching Toronto, right, so that'll be okay, Well,
wait a minute, he will if it's Toronto games one
and two on our right there there, so it'll be
snell Yamamotosani. And then Glass now comes back here to
pitch a Dodger Stadium, and Otani pitches at Dodger Stadium,

(37:10):
so the only time he gets booed is when he
comes to the plate, which he loves. Yeah, but look
at it like this. So let's say they start in Toronto,
Dodgers win the first two there. I mean, I know
we're way ahead of ourselves here. Let's just say it
happens they come back here and they win game three.
That would be the ultimate. The Dodgers can win first.

(37:31):
You see, they win the first two in Toronto and
they come back here and take game three.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Take game three so they could sweep.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
That would mean Tani would be pitching to win the
World Series against the Blue Jays. That would be worth
the price of admission. Imagine what those tickets would be
like if the Dodgers are up three to zero in
Game four at Dodger Stadium with Otani on the mound
to sweep the Blue Jays. That those tickets for that game, Yeah, yeah,

(38:09):
it'll be ridiculous. I don't mean that. I'm sorry, folks,
I didn't mean that. Fred didn't mean to drive the
prices up like he just did. But but yes, that
will be a hot ticket, to say the least. Oh
Tani for the sweep at Dodger Stadium the only thing,

(38:30):
and right, you want him to win at home, obviously,
but if you couldn't win at home, man, I'd like
to see him pitch the deciding game in Toronto. That
would be Game seven. Yeah, I don't want I don't
want that now, you know they can't go that far. Yeah,
but that.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Would be the best.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
He beats them in Toronto where they hate him that.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
You don't want it to get to that though. Now
you can't get to that now.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
All right, Adam, thank you for senting it for Ronnie.
Really appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (39:02):
Well, Dot Freddie, Ronnie's back, Kendrick.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
Ready, somebody reached out to Kendrick and Lamar for Game
three if they played Toronto Game three at Dodger Stadium,
he's got to perform. You think that somebody could call
Fat Joe back.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
Kevin, thank you, they got Rodney. We're back tomorrow. Let's
go
