Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we continue on Fred Rogan. Jonas knacks in today
for Rodney a five seventy LA Sports game one of
the World Series. Tonight, Jonas Blake Snell will start on
the Hill for the Dodgers. And would you say that
Rodgers are two to one favorites in the series.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, a little bit over two to one, Yeah, depending
on which NBA player you ask exactly.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
So to find out what's going on in Toronto right now,
we welcome in David Messe. Dave, thanks for jumping on.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
No problem, Fred, great to be with you from Canada.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Okay, Yeah, and I want to start with this. I
don't know if there is an answer, but I was
heartbroken when I read about Alex Bessia. Do we know
any more about what's happening?

Speaker 3 (00:40):
We don't, and I'm not going to speculate. There's been
nothing that Alex or his wife has shared publicly, so
that's up to them if they ever decide to do so,
but obviously significant enough for him to be left off
the World Series roster. He's not on any family emergency
or Brie meant list. He's off the roster and the

(01:03):
only way he could get back on the roster if
there was an injury and whatever he's dealing with was
able to be put to the side, and the Dodgers
added him because of an injury, So there is no bereavement,
there is no family emergency list. He's off the World
Series roster, and it's a huge, huge blow on the

(01:25):
baseball side to the Dodgers. We obviously know whatever they're
dealing with is bigger than baseball, but if we're just
talking strictly baseball, no matter who the Dodgers put on,
whether it was Will Klein, a Guardo Enriquez, or Tanner Scott,
none of them were going to fill what Alex Vesia
has done and what he could have done in this

(01:47):
World Series.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Dave, When did the Dodgers find out about this? And
what was sort of their immediate reaction was Vessia already
in Toronto with the team and they had to adjust
pretty much on the fly.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
No, No, he did not make the trip to Toronto,
and when we were allowed at Dodgers Stadium, we did
not see him at the workout that we were allowed into.
So I'm sure this has been something that they were
aware of for this entire week leading up to the
World Series.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
All right, Dave, So let's talk about the series in general.
I was looking at the Blue Jay pitching this morning
and I thought, first, who are some of these guys?
I did, honestly, And second, when you just look at
the Dodgers starting pitching, and I think we can agree
right now, it is the best I far in baseball.
If this staff is healthy for any prolonged period of time,

(02:39):
it is always the best staff in baseball. And when
you just look at it like that, do the Blue
Jays even have a shot here?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
They always have a puncher's shot here. But I feel
like everybody tries to poke holes and what the Dodgers
have and how these teams that are really not on
the same level could be. I mean, everybody was so
concerned about the Brewers and the Dodgers swept them. Everybody
was so concerned about the Phillies, and the Dodgers went

(03:09):
into Philadelphia and won the first two games of that series.
Similar situation here in the World Series. The sense I'm
getting just being around Toronto and being around the Blue
Jays yesterday, seems like they're just happy to be here
after thirty two years of not getting to the World
Series and keep in mind the Blue Jays general manager

(03:30):
Ross Atkins and the manager John Schneider, their jobs were
on the line this year with a two hundred and
thirty three million dollar payroll. If they did not get
to the postseason and have success like they're having, their
jobs were on the line. So just getting here has
saved their jobs and bought them more time. And everybody's

(03:50):
just excited to have the World Series back in Toronto
for the first time in thirty two years.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
How the Dodgers managed the layoff, the time between games,
and how they gotten prepared for this with this much
time before they're actually in action again.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, they had workouts at Dodger Stadium, and they had
guys that are not on the roster, guys that are
on the roster, Kershaw Kasparius, guys like that, we're pitching
to their hitters. And they were able to remain focused
and get their work in and do what they did
last year when they had the five days off before

(04:27):
starting the playoffs, and just really continue to keep their
focus and being around them again yesterday for the first
time since we were allowed in one of their workouts,
I mean, they just have this inner confidence about themselves
and they know how good they are, and they're not.
They're the ones that are not satisfied incredibly for being here.

(04:47):
They understand the expectations outside and they have the expectations
for themselves that they want to win a second consecutive
championship because they understand where that would put them in
their place in history, not only in Dodger franchise history,
but in baseball history if they're able to pull this off.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Dave, since you've been up there, have you heard the narrative, Well,
the Dodgers just bought this thing. The Dodgers are ruining baseball.
Have you heard any of that narrative in Canada?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I mean not really. I've heard that from just like
what I'm reading and what we're seeing and what Dave
Roberts said on the stage at Dodger Stadium just kind
of fan those flames. But it's hard to it's hard
to say that when you're going up against the team
that has one of the top five payrolls in baseball
as well. So it feels like now both these teams

(05:37):
are being lumped into the fact that we have two
teams in the World Series that have two of the
highest payrolls in Baseball top five payrolls in baseball, so
it feels like the Blue Jays now are getting lumped
into it as well.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Dave, I was actually thinking about this in watching the
Otani performance last week, one of the great performances we've
ever seen, and think about to Rob Parker, well, no, yeah,
but listen, you got to keep the takes hot, and
the only way to keep them hot is to go
off the rails. But I was wondering you personally. Have
you taken a step back to be able to sort

(06:13):
of acknowledge that you've been on the scene and been
able to cover a legitimate dynasty and you were there
to cover some of the great moments we've ever seen
in the history of a hundred plus year sport. Have
you taken a chance to just sort of look back
at your career covering this team and realize, Man, this

(06:34):
is rarefied air. That I'm able to be here and
do this at a high level and watch a team
playing at a level that we haven't seen in a
long time.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
You know, when you're in it every day, it's hard
to take a step back and and just realize how
good the teams are. That the Dodgers have had the
last fourteen seasons, including this year. But it's something that
I started to remind fans about after they were freaking
out in June or May or whatever. Take a step

(07:04):
back and realize how good your team is. And this is,
no doubt, without a doubt, the greatest time in Dodger
franchise history. I know the O'Malleys were special, Cofax, Drisdale,
the infield, all that, but there has never never been
a time like this in Dodger history. It's unprecedented, and

(07:27):
this team is on the verge of solidifying that fact
by becoming the first team to run back to back
World Series championships.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
David Besse is joining us from Canada. You know, you
talk about they're on the verge. Here's the thing, Dave.
The Dodgers during the regular season, and I heard Colin
Kaherd talking about this this morning. Guys get hurt. They
don't rush them back. They have replacements to bring in.
They really do build this just for this time of year.

(07:57):
I mean, you have to get through the regular season,
but isn't this really the way they're constructed for the postseason?

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yeah, that's the way that they've always played it. Fred
it was it's always about the big picture and look,
you got to get here. You got to put yourself
in position for that. But they're so deep. They have
mastered the one hundred and sixty two game schedule, and
it took some time for them to master, you know,
the tournament style here, especially with the extra round and

(08:25):
the best of five, and that's more of the most
dangerous rounds to be upset in. But they've been able
to collect some of the best arms in baseball and
guys like glass Now and Snell, and even the way
they brought back Otani where he was starting and only
pitching one inning for like three or four consecutive starts.

(08:48):
No other team could do that because they did not
have the infrastructure or depth to be able to cover
those innings without those pitchers. So other teams don't have
that depth from the minor leagues and just the depth
that the Dodgers acquired to be able to even even
try what they've done, and other teams are trying to

(09:08):
do it, but they just haven't been able to acquire
or develop arms like the Dodgers have, and that's been
a big reason why they've been able to be this
successful and be as patient as they have been with
a lot of these high priced pitchers because they have
the image Shean's and the land and Knacks and you
know those type of pictures. And next year they're going

(09:30):
to have River Ryan back and a lot more arms coming.
So that's the reason why they're able to pull it off.
It's not just because they throw a lot of money
at guys. It's because they have the infrastructure to be
able to slow play injuries and have them ready for
this time of the year.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Do you have a name not named Otani that you
could look at in this series and say that could
be World Series MVP material based on the matchup.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I got two guys. I got Max Muncie, who I
believe is going to terrorize these right handed pitchers for
the Blue Jays, and Mookie Betts, who may be coming
up a lot in this series with runners in scoring position,
because John Schneider, when they played the Dodgers during the summer,
was the first manager this year to intentionally walk Otani

(10:22):
with first base open and have Mooki Betts beat them.
So Mooki and Munsey to me, are two real good
candidates for a World Series MVP.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Dave I know you've talked about it, but I don't
know if the fans really get it given the fact
that Toronto doesn't have as many left handed pitchers as
let's say, the Phillies, and it was left handed pitchers
that that kind of caused the Dodgers to struggle. Hitting
the Dam's right handed pitchers is going to be right
in their wheelhouse.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Right starting pitching wise, they have three lefty relievers they'll deploy.
Flu Hardy is a lefty that really did a number
on O'totmeey during the three game series at Dodgers Stadium,
so he may be the most effective lefty and the
guy that you're going to see a lot in key
situations against the Dodgers left handed hitters. It is flu Hardy.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Sorry, David, I don't mean inter up.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Sorry what about tonight's start today?

Speaker 3 (11:20):
The full name is Jonathan flu Hardy.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
No, Jonathan Flume, yes, Jonas, it's Jonathan flu No.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Listen, no, I understand. I'm just saying, you know, for Fred,
somebody who dismisses the regular season is not important. I mean,
I think you know that series against Toronto looks very
important because that was the difference between home field in
this game and the series, So you know, maybe not really,
Maybe maybe Fred learned his lesson a little now.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Listen to Dave that it wasn't no, it was it.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
The Dodgers won two out of three in that series.
The difference is one game one loss. I know you
were preparing for Packers training camp, but that was happening
during the regular season, Jonas.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Hold on a second day. I wasn't preparing for Packers
training camp. And I know you're a Raiders fan. I'm
surprise you don't want to talk NFL at this point.
But the Dodgers could have swept them all right, that
this sweat was in order. Yeah, and and the bullpen,
so you're going.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
To point to that, but not them losing all six
games to the Angels or tennis got numerous blown saves.
I mean ringing a game that your pitcher had a
no hitter with two outs in the ninth fitting. Those
are the games I'm looking at.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah, the Baltimore game, although I would say this, even
though it's next year, has seeing the way Susak is
performed coming out of the bullpen, does that change any
long term plans for them? Because he's been fantastic.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
No, No, he'll he's. I'm sure the Dodgers assured him.
Do this for us and you'll be back given an
opportunity to be a starting pitcher next year. But you
never know, Like this may be his best role in
Major League Baseball, but when spring training comes around next year,
he's going to be built up as a starting pitcher

(13:05):
and given an opportunity to win a spot in the rotation.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Dave two questions about pictures before we let you go. First,
tonight question Tonight's starter for Toronto?

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Am' jacked enough?

Speaker 2 (13:20):
No?

Speaker 1 (13:20):
I want to know about this guy? Was an a
ball earlier this year. Is he going to cause any
problems for the Dodgers?

Speaker 3 (13:26):
He could, he's been. I mean, I don't actually think so, Fred,
He's he's the second youngest pitcher to start a World
Series game. He has a high arm angle. Uh, that
is something that Dodgers do really well against. And he
was a ratic in the ALCS. The mari Ners hitters
are just not as good as the Dodgers, so I

(13:49):
don't see it going well for this young man tonight.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Okay, final question. Do you think Tanner's got was a problem? No,
I said, two. I said to Dave, so this wraps today.
This this is like fifteen, well number fifteen, because you
know what, you've got a lot of information, Dave and
the people year it okay, right? Last one? Do you
think Tanner Scott was surprised when he was left off
the roster?

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yes, he didn't look happy yesterday at the workout. I
don't think he was too happy about being left off.
He's not very self aware, but he hasn't pitched in
a month. It's a you know, and looked when he
was on the roster. The Dodgers never went to him,
so you know, I don't think it's that big of

(14:33):
a deal. And Andrew Friedman has said this, and I
think it's been proven true. The bullpen is the most
volatile part of any team year to year, and relief
pitchers year to year, even if you're paid as much
as Tanner Scott, who honestly had one and a half
elite years. I feel like it's a good thing that

(14:53):
they left him off the roster and just let him
reset for next year because he's not going anywhere. Try
to get him on track and have a better season
than he had this year.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
All right, Now, We're done. That's all the questions.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Who Dave?

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Thanks?

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Who's who's the guest on the previews?

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Like a half marathon right here?

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Do you want to talk about the guest on the
pregame or no?

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Yeah, his name is Clayton Kershaw. He'll be joining us.
We'll share that conversation before the game.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
All right, Dave, Thanks, have fun.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Thanks Dave.

Speaker 3 (15:26):

Speaker 4 (16:41):
It's lift Stories lighting up their sports headbox.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I didn't know where you went. That's fird, Fred, What
do you mean? Okay, I'm looking. Kevin's been here the
whole time.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
Okay, Oh, I think your eyes are deceiving you.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Fred. You know what it must have been. Obviously there
was a shadow. No, you know what it is, Fred,
It's the glare from the studio glass. Is that what
it is? Yeah, you're not used to the studio glass reflection. Okay,
I thought stop jonas.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
Fred, do you remember the name Buddy Kennedy.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Oh yeah, played third base for the Doge You pay like.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Two games or something like that.

Speaker 7 (17:14):
Oh yeah, So apparently he also played two games for
the Toronto Blue Jays this year, so you know what
that means.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
He gets a World Series ring regardless, buddy, can't. Let's go.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
It's the old MLB rule.

Speaker 7 (17:24):
If you play one day for an MLB franchise, you
have the right to a World Series ring.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
But wait, don't the players have to agree or the organization.

Speaker 7 (17:33):
The organization will have to And I'd say ninety eight
percent of the time percent of the time, they end
up giving it to him because why not, I guess.
But he actually posted on his Instagram page, go team. See,
as you mentioned, he wins no matter what. There's a
couple of times this happened. I know Benji Molina when
he got traded from the Giants I think to the
Rangers or the other way around, and they played each

(17:55):
other in the World Series that year, so he was
going to be a winner regardless.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Taylor Trammel last year played five games with the Dodgers
five of the Yankees, and then I think the last
to do it before that was Arthur Rhodes in twenty eleven.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Here you go, what did Taylor tram Will get a ring?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
I believe so well, yeah, I mean he gets I
mean talk about a clean sweep, he gets an ALCS ring,
he gets an NLCS ring, and he gets a World
Series ring. Five games with each team. That's sweet.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
But if you look at how many guys the Dodgers
used during a season, they must have forty player rings.
That give away if you played just one game.

Speaker 6 (18:35):
Oh yeah, all the pictures they use especially.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Oh yeah, no doubt. That's pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Now, how would you feel though, just you guys personally? Yeah,
would you accept the World Series ring if you didn't
play on the World Series roster?

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (18:51):
I don't know. I don't know how I feel like
if I'm Tanner Scott, Oh my god, he may take it,
but you're not gonna. I don't know that I would
wear it around. I don't know that I would. I
would feel right about it. I want some sort of
action in the game.

Speaker 6 (19:05):
Well, there was an element of like, I mean, he
did contribute.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
You can argue whether it was positively or negatively, but
he did contribute to the team this year. He got
more than one save, so you can argue I guess that, hey,
I had, I contributed to the success of the franchise
in this particular season.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
But if you didn't get it like, say, this series
goes seven games, okay, and you didn't you didn't get one,
like not a third of an inning, not like nothing.
How are you feeling about that? Like I would need
at least a little something like it, just at least
it's like, you know, like I remember one of the
Cowboys Super Bowls. You know who want to got to
ring with the Cowboys Bernie Kozar, he took a kneel

(19:41):
down in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
That that works.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Like if you could just get like somebody out there
just to get a third of an inning in, I
would feel much better about wearing that thing around.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
I mean, there's no hate whatsoever towards David Carr, because
he's great and he's a nice guy. But I'm pretty
sure NFL newhere, says Super Bowl champion David Carr. I mean,
I'm pretty sure he just backed up Eli Manning for
a year and didn't really do a whole lot. I
don't know if it took a single snap that entire season.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
But he was there all he was there, right, you know.
I mean, And as for tann or Scott, you know,
you say, would you wear the ring out? Probably what's
going to happen is no matter what. He's not even
going to tell anybody was on the team this year.
He'll just keep that quiet and start fresh.

Speaker 7 (20:18):
Next he'll tell Baseball Reference and just wipe this season
off completely, never happened.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
And what are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (20:24):
They're like, hey, where were you during Otani's a just
incredible game in the NLCS where he hit the three
home runs? And he's like, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Man, I was just walking around.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Yeah, you know, I was out doing whatever.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
But here's my ring. It's like, look, call him cowhard.
Got I think he won a Marconi recently? I say that, Yes, yeah,
I filled in on that show. Oh there you go, like,
am I not? Do I not qualify for some some
portion of that award? Like when Rogan and Rodney wins
a Marconi? Am I not? Do I not qualify for something?

(20:56):
A little bit?

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Well?

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Yeah, if we were to win anything? Yeah, oh, Fred,
you've won.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
Like sports and means and things like that.

Speaker 7 (21:03):
Did you ever break off a piece of give it
to Jared or your guys over at Channel four back
in the day.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
No, but I tried to find Jonas's house. I was
just gonna drop it all. Oh are you? Yeah? But
I couldn't find your address, so I just kept it.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah, listen, trust me, you would not be fond of
these parts over here. Fred No gated communities, not not
up to snuff when it comes to Fred Rogan.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
You know what I want to chase some I know
a celebrity that move into our neighborhood. Oh do you.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Indeed?

Speaker 1 (21:31):
And it's somebody Kevin. You don't know this person? You
know one of them? Okay, you know one of them? Right?
I told you about that one that moved in you did? Okay,
I can't mention that one. Okay, you know what it is?
Who from Modern Family? Julie Bowen?

Speaker 2 (21:46):
She moved into which neighborhood? You've got four houses?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
No, I don't have four houses.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I live in the valley A two mansions of condo
and three other houses.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
It's whatever your definition of mansion is. Anyway, she lives,
I would say, in proximity to where I live.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Now.

Speaker 7 (22:02):
Is there another Modern Family star that lives like in
close vicinity to you too?

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Oh my god? Yeah, walk by his house every day,
Eric stones.

Speaker 7 (22:10):
Stone Street, Right, Yeah, yeah, he's your neighbor. Didn't he
say he listened to the show?

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Yes, he did want it to come on.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
He did wait to book that guest.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
Fred.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Hell. One time, I'm walking down Riverside Boulevard and there's
this guy. I can't see who it is. He's sitting
in a black suv. He's in a parking lot I
think where FedEx is now, and the window is barely
cracked and his car is parked looking out in the street.
I hear this, Rogan. Well, first, I can't hear Kevin

(22:42):
knows that, so I look around here, he goes, Rogan.
I walk over to the car. He rolls down the window.
It's eric Stone Street, eating an ice cream coatsterical. I said,
what are you doing? He goes, I can't eat ice cream?
I said, park in a parking lot in a black
suv with a windows rolled up. Mind your own business.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
A little creepy, Yeah, a little creepy.

Speaker 7 (23:07):
Since we're talking baseball here, we'll go to college slash molb.
We talked about this the other day, the Giants hiring
Tony Battello away from the University of Tennessee. First time
ever that a college coach has been hired to be
a major league manager of no major league experience whatsoever.
So he did an interview earlier today, and they asked
him like why he ended up making this move, and

(23:28):
he admitted to it. He said, I was selfish. I
did this for personal reasons. He says, quote, I've always
tried to be a good teammate, but I feel like
I made a selfish decision and it's one that I
needed to make. I hope it's the right one and
I don't end up end up being like Laye kiffing
around here in Knoxville. Geez, well, you know what, if
he's nothing else, he's self aware, so I'll give him that.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
And also, he was so good in college that if
it doesn't work out with the Giants, somebody will scoop him.

Speaker 7 (23:54):
Ut people wants to go back anyway, So he did
say jonas he hopes to come back to Tennessee in
some capacity after his manage aerial career does end.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
So what do you think you're gonna last six months?
It's a little soon for that, I would say, Listen,
don't be mad at me. I might need a job again.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Aren't you kind of fascinated to see how this works,
like to see if this is the approach?

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Have you seen anything with this guy? I watched the
red ass to the youmpteenth degree. Yeah, but I watched
him doing this motivational speech or something. I thought, you
know what, I could get behind that guy. Yeah, I
bet you he could. Here's the only thing our major
league player is going to buy that. Let's just put
it like that. He's not Dave Roberts. He's like a
guy on speed. Jesus, Well, what was that wrong? No,

(24:38):
I didn't mean full extreme. I would say, but hit speed.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
You can't can't wait for the uh for the stations
up there at ninety five to seven. The game up
there is gonna gonna run with that one.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
By the way, those dodgery hosts they're talking, they're accusing
us of speed use.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Geez, fred Well, I just meant he was, you know, wired, wait.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
To piss off? Canb are with reckless drug accusations?

Speaker 1 (25:02):
How's Mark Willard doing?

Speaker 7 (25:04):
Love?

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Mark Willard? Yeah, he's up there to he Yeah, yes,
it's a good man.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
Well, we know about the NBA FBI investigation that broke yesterday.
Obviously there's feel like there's new news coming out every
five minutes when it comes to that.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
And so Jalen Brown is.

Speaker 7 (25:21):
The president or the vice president of the Players Association.
He's like, you guys are talking about this FBI scandal
and who's gambling on?

Speaker 1 (25:27):
What?

Speaker 7 (25:28):
What about us and the players and all the threats
and the vitriol and the crap that we take from
fans who are complaining about not hitting their over unders
and their fantasy teams and all this other stuff. Why
isn't the league doing anything to look out for us?
Why are you potentially covering up I'm ad libbing this part.
He didn't say this, but why are you potentially covering
up for Terry Rogier? You're not doing anything to defend
the players who are getting it on a night tonight basis.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Yeah, so what does that have to do with the facts.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
That's a good question, Fred.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
What else?

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Ah, Hey, what do you want us to do? We're
fearing for our lives. Why because bumble butt Bill in
Toledo somewhere has got money on some guy's rebounds points
and assist prop bet on DraftKings. Like, dude, you kid,
stop with that. Just acknowledge the fact that you add
a couple of scumbags within your association, within your group,

(26:19):
if you will, a couple of scumbags who have given
you a bad look. You don't need to to cape
up for him. You don't need to defend them. Those
guys made awful decisions allegedly, and they're going to suffer
the consequences. That has nothing to do with these guys
in their gambling issues.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Yeah, I mean that's absurd. That's absurd. Hey, you know
what that is nothing to see here. Don't look over here. Yeah,
this is the Problem's not our fault. Yeah, it's not
our fault that we did that.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
It's it's like it's like a guy. It's like a
guy who it's like a murderer yelling at a cob. Well, me,
that guy was going fifty five and a thirty five?
Where's your priorities? Like, dude, it has nothing to do
with Chauncey Billups. Do you buy the head coach?

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Do you buy the Chauncey Billups story?

Speaker 2 (27:06):
What is his story?

Speaker 1 (27:08):
He was hooking people up these poker games. Oh yeah,
do you really? And they had like X ray machines.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Have you seen the glasses? Okay, you can see there.
Somebody posted a video of the glasses online and basically
what it is is you put on these glasses and
as the cards are facing down, they're marked somebody went
through and marked the cards with You can't see the
markings unless you're wearing these glasses. So it's almost like

(27:37):
infrared or X whatever you want to call it. And
so you can put these glasses on and if somebody
has their cards down, you can see whether or not
it's a Queen, a jack, a two, a five, and ace. Listen,
I don't want to I'm not trying to to just
diminish the severity of this. I'll just say this for
Terry Rogier, yeah, and for the people betting on it. Sure,

(28:00):
if you're willing to put in the time to invest
in a Hornets Pelicans game right a Thursday night in March,
the least you could get is like ten thirteen grand
like something like this, that's the least she could get.
And also, if you're going to go to the lengths
that they've gone to to try and cheat these poker games,
which I think Kevin Garnett was one of the guys

(28:22):
who got scammed in these games. Oh really, Oh yeah,
Because basically what they were selling is, hey, come play
poker with celebrities, Come be part of the you know,
hang out with celebrities, and so you get these these
dim wits that are like, oh, I want to go
hang out with Chauncey Billups and they're like, oh God,
you took me for another five brand. But at least
I got to hang out with Chauncey not realizing the
guy's wearing shades inside because he wants to see whether

(28:44):
or not you're holding a queen or a jack.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
It's great.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Could you make du du dun dun dun du dun
dun dun dun dun du du du du? I'm telling you?
And also, can I another theory for you? Do you
remember when the Tim Donahey scandal came out? Right, So
one of the stories that came out was that the
NBA knew that this was about to hit, and they

(29:08):
kept it quiet and under wraps until they got their
TV rights deal signed with the ESPN, and then all
the information came out. If your Amazon, if you're NBC,
if you're one of these other networks, are you not
looking around at the NBA going hold on a second,
because they knew about this, by the way, like they
let Terry Rogier play the next year, Like Terry Rogier

(29:29):
missed the rest of the season in twenty twenty three,
and it was because of injury. It wasn't an injury.
He was basically sat while the NBA looked into this.
They knew this was going on. They tried to tell everybody.
ESPN tried to report on it that the investigation was
over and everything was done. Chris Haynes a few months
ago said, the investigation's not over. He hasn't been cleared.

(29:49):
If you're one of these other new broadcast partners, aren't
you pissed that you didn't give us this information before
we gave you a billion plus dollars for your to
broadcast your league?

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Absolutely, I would be upset. Sure, Welcome to the NBA.
That's just sliding up the headlines, all right. Who wants
to win an Elton John T shirt and hoodie eight
six six ninety seven two five seventy. We're gonna give
it away. I don't care. Jonas should get to put
the caller number this time, Pikett.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Now what in honor of Dave Weese caller one.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Make Am five to seventy LA Sports a preset before
you plug in your phone. Presets in the iHeartRadio app,
now available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto just another
easy way to listen to LA's best sports talk.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Henry in Los Angeles Congratulations you want a T shirt
and hoodie commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Elton John's legendary
back to back performances at Dodger Stadium, held October twenty
fifth and twenty sixth, nineteen seventy five. These shows stand
among the most iconic live events in rock and pop history,
capturing Elton John on his meteoric rise to superstart him
and cementing his place as one of the greatest entertainers

(31:00):
of all time. And when I hear take me out
to the ballgame, I think of Elton John.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
So, Henry, congratulations rocketman, my ass. Well, anyway you want
to look at it, all right? So, how many games
do you think for the Dodgers to do this?

Speaker 2 (31:18):
I think it's going to go longer than some expect.
I would say six or seven.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
Oh, I thought you meant it's going to go longer
than some expect. It'll be four games, because I thought
they'd win it in three.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
I mean, yeah, if you want to be dismissive all
you want, that's fine. I just I get a weird
vibe about this series. I think it's going to be
much more difficult than people than people anticipate. I did
like Dave throwing out, you know, Mookie bets also Max
Munsey potentially as World Series MVP. I think Max Monsey
last checked if I'm not mistaken twenty five to one.

(31:51):
You can look there for that, so you know, it
does It does feel like there's some opportunity there if
you're interested. Mookie bets fifteen to one. So for anybody
out there that or may not play in the NBA,
at least there's some options for you there.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Yeah, there you go. And how badly do you think
o'tana gets booed tonight?

Speaker 2 (32:08):
I don't know why was it really ever? It felt
like a fabricated story, like it was not to knock
John palm Rosi, but it just felt like he got
some bad info in. It was one person reporting that,
because I remember in real time the day had happened.
John Hammon kind of refuted it in real time and said,
I have not heard anything about that. It just felt
like one guy's reporting. So, I mean, I don't know

(32:31):
why they're gonna get pissy about that when it was
never really even a real idea or conversation that was being.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Had because they have nothing else to do.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Toronto's that bad and never been to Toronto.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
I like Toronto. It's great city.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
That's what I've heard.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Yeah, it's great city. I'm just saying. You know, I
read somewhere that all but three states in this great
land of ours are rooting against the Dodgers. In California's
one of the three rooting form. Maybe there were four
rooting forms.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Do you remember what the other ones are?

Speaker 1 (33:02):
It was like Hawaii, right, do you remember, Kevin?

Speaker 6 (33:04):
I don't remember. I didn't see this.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
No, Yeah, it was like Hawaii. I mean, Utah, it
do just something like that. Everybody else is rooting against
the Dodgers. And I was told the entire country of
Canada is rooting for the Blue Jays. The entire country
is rooting for the Blue Jays.

Speaker 6 (33:21):
So it's essentially the Dodgers against the world. That's what
we're looking at it, right.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, but I'd say one thing, Japan's rooting for the Dodgers.
Yeah they are there, you go, yeah, they are, that's right.
A lot of support in Tokyo. Yeah, I'll tell you that,
so I'll take them any day. I'll take the Japanese
on our side.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
All those all those places in Tokyo you got belligerently
drunk at to open up the season for the Dodgers, Fred,
all those places are going to be cheering for the
Dodgers coming up later.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
That's why I did it. Yeah, spread goodwill set the tone. Tonight,
the Dodgers take on the Blue Jays Game one World Series,
first pitch at five. You can hear all the games
on seventy LA Sports, the iHeart Radio app brought you
by Strauss, the official Work Partner Work Where partner of MLB.
All right, Ronnie, thank you, Kevin, appreciate it. Jonas, thanks

(34:09):
for doing this. Really really love it.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Man, No, man, it's always a blast. I appreciate you
guys having me the best.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Okay, we'll talk to you Monday to live from Dodger
Stadium
