Speaker 1 (00:02):
And we continue online from Dodger Stadium. Fred Rogan, Rodney
Pete on I seventy LA Sports Game four of the
World Series show. Hey Otani, we'll go for the Dodgers tonight.
We've been taking your calls. People have just been overwhelmed
by what they saw last night here at Dodger Stadium.
We're gonna take a couple of more and then we'll
talk about some other things. We do want to point
(00:24):
out that when we got here this morning yesterday, the
place was packed.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I think everybody slept in. Give them what happened.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Now we have more people here at MLB Network is here.
There are some reporters on the other side of the field.
But what Rodney has found interesting is the Dodger grounds
crew is out in the outfield with squeeges.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Yeah, And if you you know, obviously when you cut
the grass a certain way, different directions, different angles, it
can create a pattern. And there's a big la out
in center field in Dodger Stadium. But there are ground
screws out there squeezing the grass, getting the water, the
(01:06):
moisture I guess off of the grass. Now I understand
it's supposed to be warm today yeah, twenty degrees. It's
warm right now, and you would think the sun would
take care of that. But because the Dodgers are so
meticulous and so detail oriented that they have guys out
there working on the outfield. We see guys in the
(01:29):
infield all the time on the dirt making sure it's
clean and smooth, because you don't want any bad hops
for the infielders.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
But the outfield.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
They are sparing no expense to make sure the outfield
is as smooth and clean as possible.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Another reason they're out there is they're trying to wipe
up all the Blue Jay tears after what happened last night. Freddy,
it was very troubling for them.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Oh, Freddy, Yeah, they were saying, however went last night,
it was going to be devastating for the other team.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
However, I believe that.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
If the Dodgers would have lost last night, they would
have been able to recover from this. I don't know,
and it remains to be seen. I don't know if
the Blue Jays recover from that lost last night, because
you want to win that one. That is a we
talked about it earlier. That's a gut punch. That's a
game where you let get away. That's a game where
(02:30):
you look up afterwards and go, had we won Game three,
we had a chance to win the whole thing. I
just don't know if they can recover from that. Well,
here's the thing. I think we'll find out pretty quick tonight.
I don't think it'll take long at all. If you
weren't with us on the noon hour, we chopped this
up a little bit. But here's what I believe will happen.
If the Dodgers get out ahead.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
The night early and it's not one nothing Rodney, but
I mean, if they get out ahead, I think Toronto's done.
I don't think you recover from last night. If the
Dodgers jump on him early. Yeah, and with Otani pitching
and he is sewing their head to start with. I mean,
he was on base nine times last night. Nine he
(03:10):
walked five times for them.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Interrention, right, nine times is the record, right?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
He hits two doubles and two home runs, and tonight
he's going to pitch and John Schneider, the manager of
the Blue Jays, who many felt and he was doing
the best he could at the time.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
I mean, he was managing the game.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Thought that he made some mistakes taking guys out because
all of a sudden, you're playing eighteen innings. He said,
he's just not going to put the bat in Otani's hands. No,
I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if they even let
him hit the least they beat.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Us, if they beat us with Freddie Freeman as he
did hit the home run, or they beat us with
Keith Hernandez having a big hit, with ta Oskar having
a big hit. I can live with that, but I
cannot live with a guy like Otani who is on
a heater that hit two home runs and two doubles
(03:58):
and this particular game, I cannot live with pitching to
him and allowing him to get a home run to
beat us. I get that, you can't do that if
you're Don Steider and one hundred percent. I think even
if it was and there were certain circumstances where Otani
was walked and they put two guys on, if it
(04:20):
was Otani walks to load the basis for rookie bets
and Freddie Freeman, I think he does it as well,
because at the end of the day, you cannot let
the best player in baseball beat you.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Well, you know what they say in Toronto when it
comes to otani. Yeah, we don't need you. We don't
need you, We don't need you. No, we don't need that.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
And to emphasize that we're not even gonna let you hit,
We're not even gonna get a chance.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah, that's how much we don't need you. That was crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
All right, let's go, Chris and La Chris, thanks for holding.
Sorry it took so long to get to you. Were
you here last night?
Speaker 3 (04:59):
No, no, no, was at home Fred with my wife
and my daughter, and you know, it was great that
we were able to witness an instant classic, you know,
together that that that came as epic.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
You know.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I went to the other classic of of sc and Texas.
They say, one of the best games in college football.
But unfortunately Rodney, we lost that one, but lost last night. Yeah,
last night we were able to win it. And I'm
gonna tell you I went through it felt like going
through the twelve stages of grief. You know. I had anger, shocked, depression, acceptance.
(05:34):
At one point, my daughter just she just wanted it
to be over, you know, but it was crazy. I
got to the point where it was such a I
do go back and forth, you know, once we get
past that initial Edmund air. It was such a battle
back and forth that even if we lost, I would
have been like, you know what, that's all right, We'll
just come back tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
You know.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
It wasn't one that we gave away because they both
were just badly. It was like a heavyweight fight in
my opinion. So it was a great game, and I
hope it didn't take too much of them, So we'll
see what we can about.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
What are you worried about it taking why you worried about?
How about taking it out of uns? That's the problem.
I mean, it's it about us. I mean that we
we all have to survive.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
That we all have to survive.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, I'm waiting to hear what you guys have to
say about trying though. I'm interested to hear it back
because I think that's the only negative about the whole evening,
you could say, you know, the one little blotch. So
I'm waiting to hear what you guys say. But other
than that, it was a great win and I think
we definitely got them right where we want them. If
we can just take today, Like you said.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Fred, I'm with you. I'm with you, right, Thanks for
the call.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
So so it now comes to are you bringing in
she in or trying?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Right? How how long did she? She didn't? Went a
couple of innings, didn't he? Yeah? Oh yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
So is he available or you know, Trying is a
specialty guy, which they still they has still that trust
with Trying and and I think you can't ignore him
and being available. You got to use him. He's on
the roster and he's a right hander. They've got plenty
(07:20):
of lefties, but you gotta Unfortunately, you still got to
use Trying. See, here's the problem. Here's the problem. Are
you using instead of trying? That's my question? Who comes
in instead of trying? To Hernandez Hernandez Nand maybe he
looked good. He did look good.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Here's the Thinguezriquez, Hernandez, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
You rather put in there than trying. And actually I
would Enriquez looked really good.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Here's the problem she and we saw it last night.
Give him a clean inning and let him go, give
him a clean inning, let him go.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Don't bring him in with the bases loaded. Well he can't.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yeah, he can't come into a middle situation if he
has a clean inning. Do you let him go two
innings seein? Yes, if he has clean Yes, he comes
in in the seven and he has a clean inning,
do you let him go the eighth?
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yes? Yeah, there's not even a question.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
But if you've got to bring a guy in in
a high leverage two outs and the eight with runners
at first and second, Trying it is really your only guy.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I don't think you can bring him in? Who you
bringing in? Who you bring again? Well, who would you
look good? Who looked good? Who would you rather say
out there? I'm not lying, he looked good right now?
Who would you rather say out there? He looked good? Okay?
That's my point.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I mean, I think the body of work about Trying
indicates that he doesn't really have it this year. And
even when he strikes, somebody bringing in I'm bringing in Trying. Okay, Well,
all right, then he's got bad trust from years past.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Then you know what, Then you have to live with
the results. Yeah, you're gonna have to you. You have
to live with the results. And I gotta tell.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
You, I'm going Rokie finished it out for inning and
a half, two innings.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
I'm doing that. I'm doing that. All right, Let's go
down to San Diego. Mark, appreciate your holding. You weren't
here last night, right, No, I wasn't here.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
I was.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
I wasn't there. I was in San Diego.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
So I have a question for you guys.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
So have you seen a series like this before? I mean,
we've gone from Snell eight innings, you know, minimum batters
to Otani, not Otani, to Yamamoto game, than to a
Tani's game, back to Yamamoto's game, back to this. I mean,
(09:54):
this is like, this is just this, you know, this postseason.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
This isn't like the dog history. It's just this year.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
What are they doing to us?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Right, That's what I'm saying. I think everybody should call
Jacob and Ronnie. We're all suffering different.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Which is why, which is why you got to give
so much love to Dave Roberts, because he played it
differently last year with the bullpen, and now he's playing
it with the starting pitching, and and yesterday he had
to play it with the bullpen, and how he managed
a bullpen, and the fact that he was willing to
stay with Will Klein at the end, you know, and
(10:32):
bring Kershaw and wait wait wait wait went out wait
wait wait wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, the point that
it was willing to stay with Will Klein, Yeah, okay,
let me ask you a question.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Who else was there? Yamamoto was warming up? Yeah, but no,
but Yamamoto said I'm ready to go.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
So even though he said I have to go to
a position guy, Yamamoto said I'm ready to go, and
yamamotos started me up. So it wasn't even like, Okay,
I gotta I gotta figure out is it gonna be
kik or miggy. Yamamoto took that out of his out
of his hands and said, I'm warming up. I'm ready
(11:14):
to go. So he was going to bring Yamamoto in.
But the fact that he was like listened to Klein,
a young kid, a kid that hadn't pitched, say I'm good,
I got this. I can go out and get you
another one. I can get you another inning. I mean,
as much as we want to bag and people want
(11:36):
to bag on Dave Roberts, think about the other manager
and what he did, who everybody believes is was probably
the manager of the year and and and and and
and in baseball on on the American League side. He
made so many changes and Dave Roberts stood with his guy.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
He did, stood with his guys. You got to give
him props for that. All right, let's go one more.
Patrick and Anaheim Hills. Patrick, sorry you had to hold
so long. Were you here last night?
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yes? I was all right. What was it like for you?
Speaker 6 (12:13):
It's great. It's my kids first World Series game. Top
Tech twelve row r not throw the stadium state for
all eighteen innings, got home at one am.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
All right.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
What were the moments that either thrilled you or scared
the hell out of you?
Speaker 6 (12:32):
Well, that play at the plate, for sure, that chilled us.
There there were a couple of errors that for sure,
and then thrilled This is that last home run. I
mean I was at the game last year when he
hit the Grand Slam too, so it was just like
deja vu.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
All right, Patrick, appreciate the call. Thanks for checking in.
I'll tell you this is one Rodney people are going
to talk about for years. How are they going to
talk abo about it?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Though? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (13:02):
How how it was played, the length of it, how
it was managed.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
What do you think they're going to talk about? Think
about this?
Speaker 4 (13:10):
If if Dave Roberts did what Schneider did today or Toronto,
taking out Kirk who was who whit the three run
home run earlier to put him ahead, taking out Boba Schet,
taking out I forget he took out, and then doing
(13:30):
the decisions that he made. How would he be looked
upon if he was Dave Roberts doing the same thing
to be crucified.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Dave Roberts would be crucified for that. He basically backed
himself into a corner. Schneider backed himself into a corner.
He ran out of guys, ran out of guys.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yes, and Dave Roberts on the bench.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Can we talk about he backed himself in the corner
because he took his catcher out of the game, who
hit the three run home run to take him to
put him in the lead. Will Smith caught eighteen innings
for the Dodgers last night.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Eighteen innings.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
If I'm I don't start him today, I give him
a break to start the game. Maybe bring him in
in the fifth or the sixth, after you know, the
game gets going a little bit. But Will Smith caught
eighteen innings. They took their catcher out and they still
(14:34):
had nine innings.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
To play, but they didn't realize that. That's the problem.
They didn't realize they had nine innings to play.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
So he was managing as if the game was going
to be nine innings long, not two complete games.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Well, he managed it, and they talked about this on TV.
He managed this like this was a must win for them.
That's what they talked about. He said it before the
game too, that this is a game. If it comes
down to it, we got to treat it as a
must win, which is why different starters were lining up
(15:07):
and even Bieber was ready to come in the game.
The game four starter who's going to start today, was
in the bullpen getting ready to go. That if there's
a moment that we can control the game or we
can win this game, we're going to treat it to
go win this game, this game. And that's the way
he played it, whereas Dave Roberts was like, Okay, we
(15:31):
got guys, we got guys that we can bring in.
And then when Yamamotos stood up and said I'm ready
to go too, he was willing to sacrifice. What Game six,
you say, let's go win this one.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
You have to win last night. See that's the point. Yeah,
you can't in the World Series. Go, we'll have to
fight another day. You don't know how many more days
you have to fight. So you've got to win the game.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
You gotta win.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
And I thought, but a lot of men a series
like this read it's early, it's one to one, so
you can say, oh, give this one away. Neither one
of these managers were willing to give this one away.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
But you have to understand Dave still had two position
players sitting on the bench. Yeah, he still had two
guys sitting there. He was still good to go. I mean, look,
there was a point in the game when they had
to run around third and then call kind of hit
the little dinker to short the little pop up. Yeah,
I thought they never do this. Win it now, squeeze
(16:33):
when we're talking about it on TV, or then squeeze play. Yeah,
win it now, you know what, We'll win it now
or we'll see you next thing it.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Lay it down and
let's go. Yeah, safety squeeze. They talked about it on TV.
Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Do it right now with a run on third base
to do a safety squeeze, make them make a play,
you know. But at the same time, they they played
it right because the right guys came up at the
right time in his lineup. And how many moments do
(17:10):
you think that Alejandra Kirk would have came up and
had a hit. Well, there's the problem. Four or five
times he would have came up. And those latter innings.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
I mean every time he turned Toronto look like the
same guys were. That was another thing, because I kept
cycling through. And if he's in the game, it's a
different game. I do believe that too. If he's in
the game, it's a different game. And then Guerrero's still in.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
There even but shit, if he hurt, it was as
hurt as he was. He had some big hits in
the last two games. He comes up two, three more times,
he's going to have another big hit.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
You gotta believe that, right. But because of the weis
Schneider managed. Yeah, you know, as my kids said, Toronto
had a bunch of plugs in there.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Guys should just plug in, and that's what happened, you know.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
And if you look at Will Klein and how well
he pitched, and thank goodness he did because he was
spectacular and when he got the final out, he just
you could see the emotion.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Uh oh, you saw the emotion when he hit, when
Freddy hit the home run all that, so he would
get the clip of him running out of the dugout
after Freddy hit it. It say we did this, and
it was like, I help make this happen.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So but I mean, think about this. Let's say Kirk
still in the game. All right, let's say Bashek's still
in the game. That's gonna be more of a heavy
lift for will climb on one hundred percent it would
have been. So you look at what Snyder did. You know,
Will kleinb take nothing away from him. It was one
(18:47):
of the that performance will live in Dodger history. I
don't think anybody will ever forget the name Will cleinb now.
And he had a little help. Chris Snyder made those moves,
and he was not facing Kirk, and you know he
was not facing but Chet. Really it was our show, right,
(19:07):
Guerrero and maybe Clement, Yeah right, those were the guys.
Every time Guerrero came up, you thought, all we're nervous. Yeah,
everyone nervous.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Every time he cares he's dialed in.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah, all right, it's time for World Series Dodger Baseball
tonight that Dodgers take on the Blue Jays game for
the World Series. First pitch at five Listen at All
Games on a five seventy l A Sports and the
iHeartRadio app from the ballfield to the job site Strauss
Powers World Series coverage on a five seventy l A
Sports and we'll continue from the stadium.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Wait, let's let's talk about the national Let's talk about
that like we did yesterday.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
That's weird.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
We bet back.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Live live from Dodgers Stadium, right Pete fred Rogan, Oh yeah,
what a beautiful scene.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
And Freddy, we talked about this earlier. A little bit different.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Hype, Yeah, little little different feeling, Yeah, more subdued because
of the longevity of Game three and it went and
you know, going eighteen eighteen innings and everybody got to
sleep late and they're waking up late and starting late
or is it just.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
The vibe of how the World Series goes as you
go on, it's not as exciting Game one. It was
because it was Game one at Dodger Stadium back in LA,
so everybody was fired up about it.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
I think it was a longevity of the game quite honestly,
because I've done a lot of these, and normally the
place is jam packed even for game two, game three,
every game, and I think it was a longevity. Everybody
seems to be moving a half step slower. Yeah today, Yeah,
given how long last night went. Uh oh, we do
want to say this. And yesterday we talked about this
(21:04):
on the air. The national anthems and uh oh, yeah,
Brad Paisley just killed it with the United States national
anthem and the Canadian.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Singer was okay, you don't even remember his name.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Jp Sacks, Sacks, Yes, Jp Sacks, he was Okay, my
daughter actually knew who My daughter Ryan knew who he was,
and she described him as a YouTuber. Okay, well compared
to Brad Paisley, he was a YouTuber. Yeah, but we were
out here, Kevin, we were out here this morning and
(21:40):
uh we got to hear the rehearsal again.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
By the way, they didn't rehearse it six.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Times, it was like one timing out yesterday they did
it like six times.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
He did absolutely.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
And who was the Canadian national anthem Kevin for tonight?
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah, Deborah Cox is her name. She was good, Oh, excellent.
Deborah Cox is Canadian.
Speaker 7 (21:58):
I didn't know that, Rodney. I looked it up myself.
She's actually Canadian. Okay, now they're bringing it. Now they're
bringing Deborah Cox O will full disclosure, is a friend
of the family.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Deborah Cox can sing her ass Yeah, she you could
tell that this morning her ass off and love some
Deborah Cox. I didn't realize I didn't know this and
knowing her for a while, that she was Canadian.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Wow, she's good. So she'll be doing it to.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Okay, okay, okay, who's she going up against?
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Kevin Who? Because now it's a competition. Yeah. Do you
know who started is yesterday for the United States?
Speaker 7 (22:39):
Tanash she's an R and B singer.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Tase doing it.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Okay, I know her too, don't know her, don't know her,
no her, But I do know Deborah Cox, and I
know Debora Cox is gonna bring o Canada. Man, Okay,
it was it was good, okay, good MLB networkers on
they were on yesterday at the same time they're here
on the down.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
The first spaceline is that Mark Pryor. And is Mark Pryor?
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Yes, Okay, so they're talking to Mark Pryor. Now, yesterday
they had MOOKI today have Mark Pryor.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Yeah, they're getting it in and it's happening a little
bit later than what it did yesterday as they as
they set up.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
And the reason they have Mark Pryor right now honestly
because I just heard this a few minutes ago, because
if the game had continued past Yamamoto pitching.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
It would have been Mark Pryor. They would have put
pitching coach Mark Pryor. And this isn't normally.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
And others have talked about this and within baseball that
the next game pitcher, if it's a if it's a
night game, and it goes to a particular point, they
send the next day pitcher home to go get rest
and just go chill and send him home, or even
sometimes don't even show up for the game, be ready
(23:53):
for the next one. Otani had to hit and they
were not taking him out of the game, which goes
as you, again, we've got a guy that's pitching Game four,
and yet we're gonna keep him in the lineup to
hit because we never know or if you're going to
actually pitch to him, that he may hit a home
(24:14):
run or he may get a hit, he may be
instrumental in what we're doing offensively, and he's pitching the
next day, and so we can't send him home, and
he's okay with that.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Just look at last night's game. Just look at last
night's game.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Whether you were here or you were watching on television
or listening here on the radio station, he made such
an impact. And by the way, John Schneider, I believe
this year, was the first guy to put him on
when the Blue Jays played the Dodgers during the regular season,
just gave him the old go to first base.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
We're not even gonna pitch to you.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
He was on base nine times, four hits, two doubles,
two home runs. Think about this, two doubles, two home runs.
That's a nice work period. The end, of course, the
game went forever. Every time he came up after that,
they walked him. And the fifth time they walked him,
they just didn't give them an intentional pass.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
They hoped he would chase.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
So they went out and talked to the picture and said,
just give him nothing close. If you have to bounce
him up there, don't but don't put it over the middle,
because they were hoping. After he had been walked four
consecutive times that he would chase. That is mind boggling.
They are terrified of him. Terrified. After the game, John
Snyder said, I'm just not even going to put them
(25:31):
back in his hands. They walked him, and they walked Muki.
They walked both of them at one point. And I'll
tell you this, if Muki had got a hit last
night when it counted, he didn't, But if he had,
they could not keep walking Otani. If they pull that
(25:51):
tonight and Mooki hits, they can't keep walking Otani.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
No, No, they absolutely can't.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
It was a performance.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
And I've been holding back on on the Otani thing,
and people want to call him and we're prisoners. You
said this all the time, Fred, We're prisoners of.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
The moment, right right.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
And Otani is Otani in this time and age from
a baseball standpoint, what he has done and is doing
in these playoffs, what he did against Milwaukee and pitching
and hitting and all that, and then what he did
last night. And we'll see what happens today. But man,
(26:40):
we have never seen anything like it. And I was
reluctant to say to crown him as the goat of
greatest baseball player ever people talk about Babe Ruth, you know,
and that's I can't get into the Baby Routh thing
because he went the era in which he played and
he was great. Get me wrong, but I liking him
(27:02):
and I got to separate it because I got to
separate him as a hitter and then I got to
separate him as a pitcher. As a hitter, he's Barry Bonds.
As a hitter, he's Barry Bonds, and as a pitcher,
to me, he's Roger Clemens. He is that dominant in
his prime or Kurt Shilling, He's dominated.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
You think he's had dominated as a picture that I
think he is. I really do I think he is.
He's well, maybe not.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
In the body of work of everything, but the ability wise,
he's there with Roger Clemens and Kurt Chilly.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
He's the ability. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
I don't think he's had the full opportunities that those
guys had in the postseason. But when you put it
all together, they closed this out as a Dodger organization
in him being in this him pitching to day. If
he has a great day to day, how do you
deny that this is not and we're not witnessing the
(28:09):
greatest player in baseball history.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
How do you not say that?
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Well, first of all, you have to remember last year
the guy sawd like fifty bases. Yes, he could run,
we know it can his Yes, and he's only one
fifty to fifty guy. Right, he did that. And now
you add the pitching to it. I don't know if
I think, And maybe it's simply because you haven't had
as much opportunity to see him do it. He is
(28:38):
as dominant as a dominant ace, you know that kind
of guy. But I know this, he would be the
ace on any team he pitches for.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Yes, So it comes down to except here. Except here
he's not the age.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
But if he was healthy and they allowed him to go,
he would be the ace of the staff, wouldn't he.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
He could be. He could be.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
I mean, I get it, and I'm a Blake Snell guy.
You are Snell Zillah. But if they would have like
unleashed him and say June, say you're going to pitch
as if you're the healthiest guy in the world. Remember,
he came off injury, so they really limited his pitch count.
(29:22):
If they could have unleached him in June and let
him go as a full fledged, you are fully healthy
pitcher in June, he would be in a different space
right now in terms of his ability, his dominance, all
of those things. They waited to this moment and they
(29:45):
knew what they were doing. Now he is if you
think about it, he's a third ace on this staff
right right right, it's snell Yamamoto and then Otani and
then last night, right and he's going tonight. But if
he had the opportunity to pitch all season long, he
(30:07):
might have been the ace of the staff.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
And if you look at it like that, there's simply
no one that can do everything he can do. No,
if you want to go back to Babe Ruth, Babe Ruth, Yeah,
could hit in a very different era, and it could
pitch in a very different era. I don't think you
could steal fifty bases from the pictures I saw of him.
I don't think that was going to happen. No, I mean,
who has all of the tools that O'tani does? And
(30:32):
you know you talk about a five tool player, Well,
even a five tool player.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Doesn't pitch and hit.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Yeah, that they don't make that model. And then you
can make the argument, well, olho else has that opportunity,
and I would argue back, they don't have the opportunity
because they can't do it.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Anybody that came into Major.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
League baseball right now, Well, here's the thing I would
push back on that, because he came from Japan. And
if you're like a United States American baseball historian, there
are so many players that come up out of the
ranks that are the best players on their team, and
(31:15):
they play shortstop and they pitch, or they play center
field and they pitch.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
At some point the college.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Or scouts tell them, you got to pick one.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Nobody told that to Otani. They told him you could
do both. And the fact that they told him he
can do both allowed him to continue to do both.
And this day and age in American sports, you're told
that you can't. I've known so many guys that could
dominate on the mound and also dominate at the plate
(31:51):
and dominate at playing shortstop or center field, but at
some point along their journey, they're told, you got to
pay one. You're going to be a pitcher. Hunter Green's
let's talk about him. Not at Notre Dame High School.
Hunter Green was a top five shortstop in the draft,
(32:16):
but he was also a top three pitcher in.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
The draft, and he chose.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
And they chose to draft him as a pitcher, Hunter
Green could, trust me, Hunter Green could also be very
productive at the plate in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Do you think when you see Otani doing this now
and given what you just said, teams might be more
apt to allow a guy to try both.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
I think so.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
I think this is opening up to at least American
baseball to say you can do both.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
You don't have to just be a pitcher.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
If you're dominated as a pitcher and you're coming up
in high school and usually the best players you know
will do, you know, the short stop pitcher thing. I
think they're more apt to say you can do both.
We're gonna draft you to do both. Because of what
Otani is doing.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Is that maxim taking round balls?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yeah? Okay, so Max Montzy's out there.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
He's been out there about twenty minutes now, So he's
been out there, what three and a half hours before
the game, Yeah, yeah, three and a half hours, just
taking ground balls at third base. Just buy himself on
the infield, taking ground balls, getting ready. Mark Pryor's wrapped
up now with the MLB Network and now we have
to give you the second code word, so don't forget
(33:42):
what the code words are. Every hour today we're giving
you a code word. Tim and Steve did it this morning.
Rodney and I give you two. Then Petro some money,
come along and give you code words. Write them all
down because tomorrow morning, when Tim and Steve are on,
they're going to ask you to call and ask if
you have every single code word. If you do, you're
(34:04):
going to the game tomorrow night here at the stadium,
and if the Dodgers win tonight, it'll be the closeout game.
The one pm code word is bullpen. All right, we
gave you a noon code word, but we cannot repeat that. Correct.
Oh we can't say it. We can't say it again. Oh, no,
one an hour. So if you missed noon, you're screwed.
You're done right, Oh low it. Hopefully you're listening at noon.
(34:26):
Now you know the one o'clock code word. Dodger Baseball
Tonight game four against the Blue Jays. Listen to every
game at A five seventy LA Sports and the iHeartRadio
app from the ballfield to the job site. Strauss Powers
World Series coverage on AM five to seventy LA Sports
and we're back to wrap it up after this.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Oh, yes, live live.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
We are live at Dodgers Stadium, Game four FRED Game
four in the World Series, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays.
What a game last night and the excitement and all
the build up for yesterday.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
People are still sleeping today.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
No, this is a very different scene here compared to yesterday.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I think people really did sleep in. I do too.
I do too. They'll be getting here soon. Let their start. Well,
there is this is nothing like it was yesterday, not
even close.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Do you want to point out that Max Muntsey was
out taking some ground balls and now Mickey Rojas is
out there by himself taking some ground balls.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
He's doing it at short doing it at second. He's
at short stop. Now.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Miggi Row one of the.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Consonmates for professionals and leader of this team. And you know,
every team has to has a guy or a couple
guys that lead this team, and Miggy Row is certainly
that for the Dodgers. You know, oftentimes people think that
it's got to be a superstar.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Or a guy that's you know that every he knows
and that's the leader.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
Oftentimes it's guys that don't play a whole lot. It's
oftentimes guys that are in the clubhouse that guys respect
that necessarily, you know, not necessarily are the starters or
the superstars that are the big leaders.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Of this team.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
And from all accounts, Miggi Rojas has been a leader
of this team for the last three or four years.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
You know, you watch him last night, he had a
perfect bund. He made two very good defensive plays.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
The only problem now now he's going to move over
I think to third and take some ground balls. The
only problem with Miggie Rojas, and we saw it last night.
He can't run. No, he can get to the ball,
but he cannot run. I mean, honestly, and this is
probably overstating it a bit. When I watched him last night,
I actually thought I could outrun him.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
And I cannot run.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Anybody, stop it, stop it, Fred, But no, seriously, now
you're being disrespectful. But he really can't. But but it's
interesting to run. He can't run.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
But you know.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
What's interesting, Rodney, He really can't run. But he can
get to the ball. He can get to the ball.
He can do all those things.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
But you know, we talked about Mooki the other day,
and as good as Miggy is, Mooki makes plays that
Miggy can't make at shortstop now and no, but they
don't count on him to beat out a ball to
first base, to count on him to put a butt
down like he did last night, which he did, And
(37:27):
there are key moments where they need I mean, they
absolutely need Miggi Rojas come in and play second base
and plea and be fishing at defense, shortstop, third base,
wherever you want him he can play.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
So he's a vital part of this team. You know.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
I'm just thinking with h O Tohani pitching the night
and John Schneider said he's not gonna put the bat
in his hands. I mean he walked him four times
last night. Yeah, I wonder if he could try this.
I'm not gonna let him pitch. How are you gonna
do that? You know what, he can't have the ball,
We're gonna we're gonna take that. What we're gonna do
at the ball.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Snyder is gonna take every ball that Otani pitches tonight,
he's gonna take right.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
I'm not gonna let him hit. Now, I've decided I'm
not gonna let him pitch. He has to strike us out. Looking,
is what you're saying, right, that's what will happen. We're
not we're not gonna let him hit. Now, we decided
we're not gonna let him pitch. We can't have a
bat and we won't let him hold the ball.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Oh, big night here Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
It's a rap if the Dodgers win it add percent
all right, Well, I want to thank Craig for being
out here Internet. Matt Kevin's been here in the booth
with us as well. Appreciate that Dave Reese is running around.
Ronnie back in the studio. Thank you for all your help.
Pat Drosen. Money are next, and Rodney will be back
here at the stadium tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Yes, sir,
