Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, here we go, Fred Rugan Rodney Peyton on
five seventy LA Sports a two hour program for us today,
And Rodney, quite frankly, I didn't think and that's on me.
I didn't think we'd be having a conversation we're gonna
have today. I thought the Dodgers wouldn't want it in five.
I did not think we would be discussing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah you did. I think I said six. But this
doesn't mattered. You know, we can we can all predict,
and that's our job is to to speculate and predict
the future. And but you still got to play the game.
He still has. It has to be reality. And nobody
told the Blue Jays they were gonna be done in five.
(00:45):
Nobody told that clubhouse they're gonna be done in five.
Nobody told them they couldn't win because everybody in the
world felt the Dodgers was gonna win five or six,
and nobody thought it was gonna go seven games. In
order for the Dodgers to win, it has to go
seven games. So this is and I'm look, we love
(01:06):
the Dodgers. We're a Dodger station. I love Dodger Blue.
They employ my son for the last ten years, I
try to go as many games as possible. Fred. You two,
you've always liked the Dodgers from way way back. Your
family does they go to games. We're a Dodger We're
a Dodger friendly group. We love our Dodgers. At the
(01:26):
end of the day, though, you got to say that
this is this is why people, I think love love sports.
It's the last real thing I think in this world.
It's still the only thing that is unpredictable, that is real.
Things out there now are scripted, they're fake, they're this,
(01:49):
they're that. The only thing that's unpredictable right now is sports,
which is your You know you've talked about this before. Fred,
that it's why sports rates so high. It's why all
of these stations and streaming services are buying and gobbling
up these sports packages and giving all these money, all
this money to these leagues. Is because it's the thing
(02:11):
that's live and you want to see it live. Everything
else you can stream it, everything else, you can record it,
binge it, whatever it may be. But a live sporting
events you want to see it live. And so this
is the beauty of sports. And I think why it's
gained in popularity as we've gotten to more of an
artificial world. Is that it's real and you still have
(02:33):
to go out and play the game. And just because
you have a team on paper doesn't mean they're going
to automatically win. This is the beauty of sports. Now
that being said, we're rooting for the Dodgers. I didn't
think we'd be here either. And then it's not over look.
We've seen and we've seen the Dodgers with their backs
to the walls in the last ten years, and oftentimes
(02:54):
they've come through. They came through a year ago. So
it's not out of the realm that the Dodgers can
come back. And they got to start with a game tonight.
But yeah, I'm with you. I didn't think we'd be
here either, So this really is it. It is confounding
that they can't hit. All of a sudden, they can't hit.
(03:15):
So when they're playing against the Reds and they're playing against.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
The Phillies and Brewers, they didn't need to hit as
well because their pitching was so good. Now I understand
in this series. Yeah, I mean, guys have been tagged,
but that's been late. The starters have done a decent
job of keeping the team in the game, keeping them
in the game, but then they need to have some
hitting to back that up. And that's been the issue.
(03:38):
I mean, pure and simple, that's been the issue. So
they haven't been hitting, and the bullpen is an atrocity,
that's it. So how do you fix it? Well, first
of all, and everybody on the roster knows it. Everybody
is saying the hitting has been terrible, and now you
try to figure out what you're doing wrong. Sometimes are
too aggressive, that's what Tao said. Sometimes are too patient, Kik.
(03:59):
It seems like at bats or snowballing on us. Right now,
we're getting pictures to hit, we're missing them, and we're
expanding the strike zone with two strikes. They're just out
of rhythm and they're all out of rhythm at the
same time. That's the story again in the bullpen. But
the hitting, they're out of rhythm. And what they have
to do tonight. And by the way, I think there's
(04:22):
going to be a game seven. I think there's going
to be a Hollywood ending here. I think will win it.
I do, but be Haimes like that.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
That needs to go seven. It should go seven. I
just give give given the Blue Jays season as well.
I'm just looking at it from their standpoint too, given
their season and the Dodgers and the big bad Dodgers.
This is a series that should go and probably will
go seven games, and I think it deserves seven games.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Well, it probably does. I wish it would have five
heavyweights going. They were the heavyweights. You know, people think
about it the Yankees, but don't forget Toronto had a
tremendous season this year. You know, on the national side,
there was there was Milwaukee, and nobody felt that Milwaukee
was gonna get was gonna go to the World Series.
Let's face it, they had the best record in baseball,
but they didn't. Nobody felt that they were going to
(05:15):
go to the World Series. Toronto at the second half
of the season was the best team in the American
League and so this it's only natural for this team
to meet up. But yeah, it feels right that it
should go seven games. Yeah, again, I wish it was five,
but all right, it'll go seven. I still think the
Dodgers win this thing. You go, why because I think
tonight they do figure out a way to put the
(05:39):
bat on the ball. They've got to score First, they've
got to do something fast. They've got to get out ahead,
whatever the definition of that is. And even if it's
not scoring runs, they've got to they've got to impose
their will quickly tonight offensively. Yeah, they've got to make
things happen.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
When seeing Gosman second time, they got after him a
little bit late. He started off pretty strong, but they
got after him a little bit later in the sixth
seventh inn. But they were putting a ball in play
against him. I believe in and so I think they'll
be all right. And hey, look they could say the
same thing about Yamamoto. Look he got us, but we
were gonna make the adjustment for him tonight and we'll see.
(06:16):
But it has all the makings of going to a
game seven.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
So they were loose last night. I mean, you wouldn't
think that they're staring the end of their season in
the eye. They were running around, laughing, having a good
time at the workout. Dave Roberts tried to race Kim
and Dave Roberts face planet, which was a bad call.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Let's be honest. That was that a good call? I understand, Dave.
You put Steele and run guy and then you heard
Freddy Freeman in the background. This is what we needed,
this is what we needed. Which sometimes it is true.
You get tight, you get you feel Look, don't get
me wrong. These guys and I'm close to them, and
I you know, I get feedback from certain certain guys
(06:56):
and you know, the clubhouse and all that kind of stuff,
and they feel the panic of the city. The players do,
they feel it. They feel when you put on that
Dodger uniform. You know what's expected out of you, right,
and that's to win multiple titles and win every single year.
So they definitely feel it. But at the same time,
as a player, I can tell you that, look, no
(07:21):
matter how much money you have, those guys are good.
On the other side, the guy can make Goslin and Noah,
you Savage, I mean, yeah, he started in single A.
I think he was making under one hundred grand, and
yet he's a fine and got in a rhythm and
one of the best pitchers in baseball. And you got
(07:44):
Yama Motive making three hundred and twenty five million dollars.
So you tell me, Yama Motives that much better than
your Savage. Yama Motal's good, but not three hundred million.
Dollars better. So there are good players out there, and
guys come into their own at different times, and they
understand that. And plus they're coming off they're still the
(08:07):
world champions until somebody wins it, until Toronto beats them,
And so for them to be loose at this point,
it doesn't shock me. It's like, we're gonna go out
and play the game and we're gonna let it all
hang out. But we're not gonna put all that pressure
on ourselves and be tight. To god, oh my god,
we gotta win. We just won last year. Yeah, we're
(08:29):
trying to win it again, but we're not going to
put so much pressure and be so tight that we
can't perform. And I thought last night was great for
the Dodgers just to kind of reset and you know,
have a little levity and just like and it might
be a good thing Fred that they're away from LA,
(08:50):
so they're not feeling everything they hear in the city
as well as they go for these next two games,
because as they're down, you know they're down. You know
it's three games to two, and the last two games
are in LA. You know, they wouldn't be able to
get away from the pressure that the fans are feeling, Oh,
(09:10):
we gotta win these next two. We gotta win these
next two. The fact that they got away and they're
not hearing it on a regular basis from the LA folks,
and the pressure and the strain, it's probably gonna be
a good thing for him.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
The workout last night in Toronto was optional. Okay, we
all know what optional means. You show up if you
want to show up. Dave Roberts was very impressed they
all showed up.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
There's a there's a code and in sports that optional
versus mandatory. And there are certain times where optional is
in reality optional. But everybody knows when optional means mandatory,
and last night was mandatory. They made it, put the
(09:56):
option obstitinal label on it, but it was certainly mandatory
that everybody showed up.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
So what do you do about the hitting? How do
you address this? They move MOOKI okay, well that didn't
really do much. I mean, overall, if you really look
at it, do you shake it up more?
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Do you go for it? And who plays tonight? Well
we should have the lineup around one? I think. Who.
Here's the thing with that? It wasn't like I mean
Mooki is struggling, and it's it's because Mooki is the superstar.
It's more glaring than anything else. But you move somebody
else into the second spot. Is there anybody else that
pops in the top of your mind to go, oh yeah,
(10:36):
he's gonna make a difference in that second that second spot.
Anybody anybody that's hitting on consistent basins and dodgy lineup
that you could say, oh, move him to the second spot.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
He's gonna be much better than Mooki. Right now, who
nobody pops into my mind. Nobody's hot. Nobody's hot. So
that's not gonna matter. It's gonna it's gonna every out.
He's gonna have to get going and have better approaches
at the plate, regardless of what position you're hitting in
(11:07):
the lineup. Nothing, it matters. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Now if you know there was a moment that Will
Smith was kind of hot, but he's cooled off a
little bit. So you say tioskar or you say key
k h, you say you know Tommy Edmonds has not
been hot at all. Who are you gonna put there
that's gonna make a difference, I mean, be different. If
Taoskar was hitting the cover off the ball, and you know,
hitting five hundred in this World series, you say, look,
(11:33):
he needs to move from the fifth spot into the
second spot, Mookie to the fifth spot. But that's not
the case. Not one person in that lineup has been
really consistent throughout these World series.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Somebody's got to ignite, you know what I mean. Somebody
just has to catch fire. Somebody has to make something happen,
and somebody has to do it early, and then somebody
has to follow that up.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
They just haven't been hitting no. But that's the thing
we talked about. This was ned yesterday. All it takes
is one guy to get hot, one guy to get going,
and then other guys start to feed off of that,
you know. I think now you know, for Toronto they
got a couple guys right Vla de Guerrero. Everybody's feeding
off of him. He's hot and so they know he
(12:22):
comes up the plate, he's getting a hit or home
run or double. He is He is a tough, tough
out and I think quiet has kept Bobashett being available
for them as gift that helps all kinds of life,
all not only just being in the lineup, but he's
gotten some big hits too. It's nobody expected. Everything he's
(12:44):
doing is gravy for them, but him being in the
lineup that gave him an extra charge and he's actually
delivering too. So between him and Guerrero, they got two
hot guys that they can feed off of, and the
rest of the life is like, we got those guys. Now,
I just got to set the table for him. And
(13:05):
that's not what's happening for the Dodgers, which has been
critical in that eighth ninth spot for the Dodgers with
Paez struggling, Edmund's struggling that nobody's getting on base when
Antani comes up, because I think Otani in his mind too,
as a as a dominant hitter like he is, it's
a different mentality when you come up and there's people
on base as opposed you come up with two outs
(13:27):
and nobody on base, Right, I get that. Let's start pitching.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Let's assume me aw, Momoto does the job, all right,
Let's all let's just think he's gonna do it. I'm
not saying he's gonna throw a complete game, but let's
say he's pretty good, all right. So that's what we
think now we have to have the contingency plan. Let's
say he he goes six and it's okay and the
game is closed, but for whatever reason, he's running out
(13:53):
of gas. Let's just go this right now.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
What do you do? What do you do?
Speaker 1 (14:01):
This is an essence Game seven for the Dodgers. There's
no saving anybody for tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
This is it. So what do you do?
Speaker 1 (14:11):
He needs help? Who's going to supply that help. I'll
tell you who's not going to supply the help. Blake
Trying or Anthony Bonda, they are not going to supply
the help. I don't know if a Rikaz is going
to supply the help.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
I thought he could be, but in that one out
and he just went back to being shaky.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Okay, well then we've taken away three Jack Dryer, there's
one guy I can trust, Jack Dryer. Okay, there's one
go through and he didn't get two guys out, or
you know, whatever it may be. If he comes in
the middle and he's one out and he's got to
get two guys out, I could I could live with
him giving us an.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Inny sure one. Now, who who's gotta go that has
got to go to the starters. Now, well, got it.
Depending on where you are, it's got to go. If
you're in the eighth, Jack Dryer gives you the seventh.
Oh it's Suzaki that s its Sazaki for two innings.
That's it.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I'm just trying to figure out
that in the play anymore. She and I think can
pitch if it's a clean inning. If it's a clean
inning to start, I don't think you're bringing him in
with two guys on.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
So Sazaki gives you six good ones. You mean you're
a head by one. Okay, he's at one hundred and
eight pitches. A little shaky in that six, but got
out of it, all right? Is that a point image
Sheen comes into seventh, give you the seventh inning. I
don't think you have any choice because you can't bring
(15:38):
Sazaki in at that point.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
No, no, but you can't bring Sheen in with guys
on base. No, give him a clean inny, right, you
gotta give.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Him clean sheet.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
So if that's the case, all right, So now you
have Jack Dryer and Sheen. Sazaki's over here. We know
he'll close.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Now he doesn't come in into the eighth, and that
that could be the beginning of the eighth. That could
be one out in the eighth. It could whatever it
is in the eighth. He comes in in the eight,
right again, So now you have two guys. One can
start with a clean inning. One you believe you can
bring in with guys on base, that shack Dryer. Who
else where are we at now? Will Klein, Will Cline,
(16:16):
the return of Will kleinb Can he catch lightning in
a bottle? Twice? But I don't know. Okay, he's not
gonna go six innings like he gave whatever he gave
you in that eight in game. And remember he was.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Give you two outs maybe yeah, but he was pitching,
as we like to say, against our plugs, not their
real guys. But Sneer took everybody out of the game,
and everybody was exhausted as well at that right. Okay,
So now we think to take away anything from Will
Cliin because he was phenomenal. No, and he could be
phenomenal again, but we just now there's no more run way.
You gotta really think about this. Yeah, you're up a
(16:53):
clean one run lead, all right, well, clean inning, one
run lead. You go with shan somebody's on by you
go with dryer. Will Klimb is the third guy you
might go to before Suzaki, before Suzaki. Yeah, that's it.
That's the bullpen. You can't put anybody else in. What
(17:14):
about Glass now tonight? All right, well here's the question.
And I'm glad you bring this up. If ya'ma Moto
were to go six See, I look at it like this.
I don't know how you look at this, Rodney. I
think Otani's got to start tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Period.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
He's got to start because remember, if he goes in
and relief, once he comes out, he becomes the DH
or he's no longer the DH and that would mean
to stay in the game, he has to go.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Play the outfield or something. And you can't risk. You
can't risk whether it be Glass now, whoever else comes
in holding it down for eight innings waiting for Otani
to close the game out. No, no, So I don't
let Artani go as long as he can go. Then
(18:02):
bring Glass now in. Yeah, but that leads to this.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
If things go sideways early tonight, what do you do
do You go? Well, get Glass now ready and we'll
worry about tomorrow tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I mean do you do that? But just also you know,
I know it's short rest, but Blake Snell's gonna be
available tomorrow or one hundred percent everybody's available tomorrow. So yeah,
I think you use everybody but Blake Snell and Otani tonight.
I think I think you gotta go. If it gets
(18:40):
ugly early or it's shaky early with the Amamoto, then
you got to come immediately with Glass now, or you
come to to to buy in any maybe you come
she in first and then Glass now gives you length.
But anyway, and that that kind of combination she in
it Glass now. If it goes south early before the
(19:02):
fourth inning, you need they have the availability of both
those guys to give you three four innings. I think
you're right. That's the call.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah, And realistically it's the only call because you can't
go to anybody else.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
No, I mean, Kershaw don't be ready can give you.
He'll be ready to go. You trust him with that
lineup in the UH in that stadium for multiple innings.
I think he can give you one and I don't
think he can give you length. I think he can
(19:38):
do what he did the other night where he can
get out of an inning for you, but I think
multiple innings for him at this point in his career
is going to be very risky. Okay, well, then if
there's trouble early, maybe you put him in for an
inning and then the glass now or shan? I mean
(19:58):
that you we have to understand what we're doing right now.
And as you listen and you say, well, what are
you guys talking about? Can I tell you something?
Speaker 1 (20:05):
This is a conversation that the Dodgers have had for hours,
for hours, this conversation right here for hours, trying to
figure out what if and hopeful, hopefully not even having
to worry about it, but trying to figure out what if?
What are we going to do if and hopefully that.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Don't have to worry about it.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yeah, but this is a conversation you're hearing us talk
about it. Fans should be talking about it, because I
guarant damn t you the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Are talking about it. What if? Yeah, they're running through
every possible scenario, and I guarantee you all those guys
are all on deck because that's the Dodger way and
that's the Dodger organization. So if Glass now, they have
to tell him listen, right now you're penciled in as
a starter for game seven. But if we need you early,
(21:01):
or if Yama starts to struggle early, you might be
the next man up. He'll be ready.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Hell, they could do that and pitch a machine tomorrow. No,
they have to start Otani. If gets into trouble, then
they can go to a machine tomorrow or Blake Snell.
Yeah right, Tyler Glass now is on call.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yeah, he's he's the he's the X factor in these
next two games where he could pitch anywhere.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
I hope he got to sleep last night. Yeah, he did,
he did. He'll be ready to go.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
To uh Dodger Baseball Tonight Dodgers take on the Blue
Jays Game six of the World Series.

Oh that's right, it's Friday. It's it's not like a
normal Friday. We really don't care this Friday, but we
care the night. Yes, we do. Got to have it tonight,
fed It's one of them. It's one of them. He's
a guy. Fuck a guy walk around the locker room.
When I first got into the NFL, and and and
(23:01):
every game, every game, he would come into it. He
would be like the first guy into the locker room
and he'd be dressed before everybody, and you come in.
It'd be three hours before the game you get there.
He was already dressed, he was already had his socks
and his cleats on and already taped up and everything,
and he just walk around. He'd walk around, He walk
(23:22):
around for an hour prior to the game. He kept saying,
got to have it tonight, baby, got to have it tonight.
We got to have it today. Baby, we got to
have it. So it reminded me. I was like, yeah,
we got to have it today, Freddy. Everybody got to
have it today. By the way, whatever happened to that
guy who knows?
Speaker 5 (23:43):
Who knows? Only played one year with him, but he
stood out. I don't think he played in the league
after that, but he stood out. I guess he didn't
have it.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
He wanted everybody else to have it because he didn't know.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
He wanted everybody else to have it. But you know,
he didn't have it enough to stick around, but he was.
He was definitely influenzial because I remember him.
Speaker 2 (24:07):

Speaker 1 (24:36):
All right, let's put the spotlight on what is going
on in Toronto and welcome on, Jack Harris of The Times,
and Jack, thank you for jumping on.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yeah, guys, how you doing doing well?
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Okay, uh, it's one game now, it's a one game season,
and you were there last night. They certainly didn't seem
overly concerned about it, did they.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
No.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
I think, well, this is a team that's been in
tough spots before. You know, you heard them talk about
that Padre series after the game the other night and
how they had to come back then. So you know,
I don't think that they're you know, putting too much
emotional pressure on themselves, if that makes sense. You know,
obviously they're trying to lock back in. They spent a
(25:17):
lot of time yesterday taking batting practice, trying to work
on their swings, trying to find a better offensive approach
I think, to take into tonight's game. But you know,
at the same time, everyone saw the video of Dave
Roberts running around the bases and falling down shoheo Tani
took another really impressive round of batting practice. So, you know,
(25:37):
for the kind of situation they're in, I think, you know,
they got in a better headspace than they probably were
after Wednesday night and are hopeful that they're going to
be able to have a little bit more consistent success
of the plate coming into tonight's game.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Yeah, well, I can always I can speak from a
player standpoint. I know that the fans are more nervous
than the players. Players get they get to control it,
they get to do it on the field, and I
guarantee all of them are feeling pretty confident. Jack and
I think that they're going to lean on the last
time they played a game in Toronto, it was pretty
dominant by Yamamoto. It was pretty dominant by them before
(26:13):
they came home. So it's not like they haven't won there.
They can't beat them. I mean, it is one of
those things where you got to play and like you mentioned,
they've been there. They've been there before with the tight situations,
tough situations, and they've battled through it. Do you think
that they shake up the lineup even more tonight than
(26:34):
what they've done by moving Mookie down and then sitting Paez.
Is anything else going to happen?
Speaker 3 (26:43):
You know, we'll see.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
Dave Roberts said yesterday that he was considering more changes
to the lineup. I think maybe moving Muki around is
something that could be in play, but at the same time,
you know, they just need text acute like however the
batting order looks, they have to take better at bats.
One thing they've been talking about a lot as being
a problem in the last couple of games is that
they've been in between and their approach where you know,
(27:07):
they're trying to not only hunt fastballs, but they're also
trying to protect against breaking stuff, and it's kind of
left them in a spot where you're seeing a lot
of in between swings, not a lot of convicted swings.
They've been falling behind in the count too much, so
I think that's kind of the first thing is you're
facing a guy tonight who's basically fastball splitter, who's going
to try to get you in between those two pitches,
guessing which one's coming. The key is going to be,
(27:30):
you know, trying to be able to attack his fastball
when he puts it.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Over the plate. They didn't do that great.
Speaker 7 (27:35):
In Game two against Kevin Gosman, but then they eventually
hit the two home runs in the seventh. I think
it's going to help them that they've seen this guy
before in this series and really, unlike you know, you Savage,
who is a very different pitcher from Game one to
Game five. I think you're going to see a similar
approach from Gossman tonight. So you know, over the last
couple of years, the Dodgers offensive identity has been adjusting
(27:58):
at the plate, taking in form from pastimes they face pitchers,
having a better plan of attack the next time they
face them, driving up pitch counts, working tough rat bats.
I mean, Tonight's going to be the test of all that,
because they're going to have to be that team tonight
to try to get to him early, get into that
Blue Jays pen, give Yamamoto some breathing room, and try
to extend their season.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Jack, everybody all hands on deck tonight. There's no tomorrow
if you don't win tonight. So can you even worry
about tomorrow tonight? Or you just got to whatever you
need to do, you.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
Do yeah tonight. Especially on the pitching side. You know,
anybody who's available is going to pitch. You know, I
think the interesting guy is going to be Tyler glans Now.
I think if they get to a Game seven show,
Heyo Tani is going to be a candidate to open
that game. He won't be able to make a full
length start, but he could give you two or three
innings that would free up glass Now to maybe pitch
(28:48):
and relief tonight if you need. Obviously, I think their
hope would be getting seven or eight innings out of
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and then being able to turn it over
to Roki Sasaki. But if they have to find a
bridge somewhere there middle, I think Glasnow could be an option.
Otani himself could be an option if they want, if
they need. You know, bringing him in earlier in the
game is obviously a really tricky thing because then they
(29:11):
keep his bat in the lineup after you'd have to
put him in the outfield or something. I don't think
they want to do that, but they're gonna have to
get creative because I don't think they want to turn
this game over to any of those traditional relievers who
have struggled in this series. I think the good part
for them is that they do have some options. If
you can get to a game seven, you'll have blakes
Now available for that to come out of the bullpen
(29:31):
for probably a couple innings. So they're gonna have to
piece it together a little bit but they like the
talent of the arms that they have. They do like
where they're pitching is situated coming into this game, and
if they can get a good start from Yamamoto, they
should have some options to be able to cover the
last couple of innings.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
So yeah, we chopped this up yesterday, Jack. And so
if you get you get some length out of Yamamoto,
and let's say you get seven or eight out of
yama Moto, are you right in Suzaki to the end
if you can, because you don't want to use, you know,
some of the existing bullpen arms that have struggled. Is
it Suzaki or is she in even in the mix anymore?
Speaker 7 (30:12):
I think you really want to try to stay away
from from anybody in the bullpen not named Roki Sasaki.
So he hasn't pitched since that Game three. You know,
they could have brought him into Game five when they
were losing, and they went to Edgardo Enriquez instead. Obviously
by not doing it, they were not able to stay
close in that game. But it does keep him fresh.
He's on three days rest now, so he would be
able to take down you know, two, maybe even three
(30:34):
innings if he's efficient. So you know, if yam a
modo can give him length, I think between Sasaki and
potentially the availability of glass Now, they'll have some options
to try to finish the end of the game without
having to turn to some of those guys who have
been more up and down in this postseason.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
So you see, you see Glass now have potentially coming
in relief of this game if need be, and then
starting Otani in game seven.
Speaker 7 (30:59):
Yeah, you know, we kind of you know, Tyler Glasnow
through his bullpen session before game five, which was notable
because you know, typically starters throw their bullpens two days
before a start. By you know, having Glass Now throw
his bullpen in game five, it means that he's you know,
didn't have to do anything off the mound yesterday. It
leaves him as an option for today. I think, you know,
preferably you'd like to stay away from him tonight if
(31:22):
you can win this game and then have him tomorrow
and you know, maybe have Otani, Glass Now and Snow
to pitch in game seven. But if you get in
a spot tonight where you need somebody that you know,
you trust and has good stuff to come into a
big spot, they've at least given themselves the option to
do that with Glass now knowing that Otani could be
an option to open tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
I don't think you have any choice. Check.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
I think Otani has to start tomorrow. To be honest
with you, I really don't think you have a choice
because given what you said a couple of minutes ago,
you can't lose his bad You can't start gambling and
bringing him in as a reliever, and then where's he
going to play? And they don't really want to put
him anywhere else. So I think it's got to be
Otani starting tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (32:02):
The only other option that, like, if you don't end
up using Glass now tonight, you could start him hope
that he could give you a little bit more length
at the beginning of the game, then maybe bring in
Snell and then try to maybe save Otani for the end,
because I mean, really, if you're gonna use them as
a pitcher in game seven, it almost certainly has to
be to open the game or close the game. So
those are all the things they're going to have to
(32:24):
be balancing. But again, I think the way they're going
to approach tonight is all those guys are going to
be available in spots that they need. They have to
win tonight obviously, and then they can figure out where
they're at tomorrow. But they do have pitching options at
least to handle both of these games and be aggressive
tonight without you know, burning all of their options for.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Tomorrow Jack, without knowing the outcome. And I don't want
to get into speculation of that, but up until now,
are you how do you see this series or how
would you describe this series? Is it Dodger's failure or
is it more Toronto playing the that's baseball right now.
Speaker 7 (33:02):
I think from the Blue Jays, you've seen a team
that knows exactly what it wants to try to do
with the plate. Even going back to Game five, they
had a plan going into that game, just betting that
Blake Snell was going to try to establish his fastball
in the zone early since he struggled to do that
in Game one.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
So what did they do.
Speaker 7 (33:19):
They went up there those first couple at bats ready
to hit fastballs, and when Snell gave him a couple
to hit, they took advantage. Later in the game. You know,
they did the thing that they do, which is get
the bat on the ball, put pressure on you know,
opposing pitchers and defenses to execute at a high level.
You know, the interesting thing to me about this series
is it's almost like an inverse of the of the
(33:39):
Dodgers and Yankees last year, where the Dodgers did a
lot of the little things right that exposed some underlying
flaws with the Yankees. Well, the Blue Jays are doing
a lot of little things right now that are exposing flaws,
and the Dodgers defense and their bullpen that's made it
so that, you know, their rotation can't be quite as
dominant as it's been, and really, outside of that one
(34:00):
Motos start in Game two, they have not been nearly
as good as they were earlier this postseason. And then
on the Dodgers side, you know, they haven't been able
to kind of have that consistent approach at the plate
they have been in between, they haven't been able to
make in game adjustments to figure out how to do
a better job of getting to some of these Blue
Jay starters.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
So, you know, obviously the.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
Dodgers are more talented team, but the Blue Jays are
playing like a team that knows exactly what they want
to do, that is executing at a very high level
and is forcing the Dodgers into some mistakes. So the
good news for the Dodgers is they you know, all
they have to do is win two games. They've done
that a lot this year. They want back to back
games earlier in this series, and if they can get
to a more consistent level over these next two nights,
(34:41):
they should have enough to win both these games. The
question is, you know, can they do it? And what's
going to be a really hostile environment with their season
on the line, with all the pressure that comes with that,
because so far the Blue Jays have been the team
that across the board have just been executing at a
higher level and doing the kind of things that have
made them successful this whole Sea.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Jack, I think it's critical that tonight they got out
to a quick start. They got to jump on Galsman,
they've got to get on base, They've got.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
To score some runs early. How important do you think
that is?
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah, I think it's really key for the lineup. You know.
Speaker 7 (35:17):
One of the quotes that set out to me after
Game five was Kiki Hernandez talking about how it felt
like the at bat started snowballing on them a little bit,
and the more times that they went one, two, three.
You know, going back to Game four, the more times
that they left runners on base and couldn't take advantage,
then the pressure starts to build. You try to do
a little bit too much of the plate, and it
(35:38):
becomes tough, especially if you fall behind. So yeah, I
think offensively having some early success tonight will be critical
just to kind of, you know, back up the things
they were working on yesterday, to reinforce, you know, this
confidence that they're trying to build coming into tonight's game,
and to just take some of the pressure off the
lineup that you know is really searching for who they
(36:00):
want to be at the plate right now.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Jack Dodgers win today and they go to Game seven,
who's got more pressure on them? Blue Jays are Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
That's a good question, you know.
Speaker 7 (36:14):
I think everybody kind of feels pressure in a Game seven,
and it's about how you internalize it. I think from
the Dodgers standpoint, you know, they are good at handling
those spots. We saw it last year. I think if
you look at just the way that they've handled this
postseason when they came in not playing very well, they
were able to play at a pretty high level for
(36:34):
the first three rounds. There will obviously be pressure on them,
but I think they do shift the pressure back to
the Blue Jays if they can win tonight, push this
to a Game seven and force a team that has
played two winner take all games already this postseason, but
are one winner take all game in the ALCS round,
but obviously hasn't done it on a World Series stage before.
(36:55):
I would like the Dodgers' chance of just being able
to handle that moment a little bit better, but both
teams would be feeling pressure at that point, and again
it would come down to who can make the little
plays and execute at a higher level. And back to
it bat. You know, Dave Roberts made a big point yesterday.
I just want to see our guys go up there
and and fight and compete in some of these events
in a way that we haven't been.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Doing so far in this series. But yeah, I think
if they can get it to us against.
Speaker 7 (37:21):
Seven, it probably neutralizes that that pressure.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Dynamic a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
All right, well, Jack, we appreciate you coming on. Have
fun tonight.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
We know it's going to be loud, and we'll get
together Monday and hopefully talk about the Dodgers being world
champs again.
Speaker 4 (37:37):

Speaker 3 (38:31):
I want to go back to five.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
Back to back was never going to be easy.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
If they're gonna do it, it'll have to be done
in Toronto.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Oh yeah, Happy Friday, Happy Friday, Happy Halloween. I kind
of miss a little bit about that Halloween. There's so
much going on in the world and sports and everything
in general. As you know, not to get too political,
but the government's still shut down, and there's a critical
time for a lot of folks. But it still is
(39:24):
Halloween today for the kids and some of the adults
that think they're kids. But Rodney Pete fred Rogan on
a Friday game six for the Dodgers tonight in Toronto.
That's on a lot of folks, mind, Freddy.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
All right, And now from the court to the court
room with Jacob m Roani.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Kay, are we to chat with our friend Jacob em
Rani and Jacob Boo.
Speaker 6 (39:52):
Happy Halloween, Happy, happy Halloween.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
How are you guys doing well?
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Jacob? How are you feeling about the Dodgers?
Speaker 6 (40:00):
Oh? Man, that was Those were the toughest two games
I have to sit in the stadium. I went to
the games both games, you know, or and five, and
I was hoping those games are going to be a closeout.
Game for number five, and man, that was hard to watch.
But you know what, we're positive we're winning it. We're
gonna come back and win tonight and win Game seven. Hopefully.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Yeah, it does feel that way, Jacob. Right, Look, we
as Dodger fans, been spoiled for sure, but it feels
like every time, at least in the last few years,
when the Dodgers had their backs against the wall, they
found a way to kind of come through in the
big moment. So hopefully that that happens, that happens tonight.
But just being in this situation in game six, what
(40:46):
do you think I said this earlier, it's almost it
almost might be a good thing that they left La.
They're out of La with all the tension and everybody's
on edge and all the fans and you hear all
the noise. It almost might be a better thing that
they're playing in Torontald the last two games.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
Absolutely, And I think this one day rep for them
to get their heads back together. I think it's really
really important, you know, looking at what occurred and watching
those bats not come to life, you know, game four
and five, it just looks like everybody thought that when
they came up to that they have to hit a
home run. You know, there was no you know, trying
to just get on and try to grind it out.
(41:24):
So hopefully this one day off is good for everybody,
coaching staff, the players. Dodgers have shown that they can
win in Toronto, They've shown they can win anywhere, and I,
you know, I feel pretty good. You know, we got
two games and we got to win them. And you know,
as fans, we know they could do it. They've got
the lineup. We just have to try to, you know,
(41:45):
have our starting pitching go as far as they can
and you know, not have to be dependent on the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Jacob, our listener is love when you offer tips. It's Halloween.
I mean people are going to be out and about
what tips can you offer our listeners this week?
Speaker 6 (42:01):
Yeah, you know, happy Halloween. We're right now just about
to start our annual Halloween party for our staff at
our law firm that we do every year. But one
of the things that I always tell people, and I
tell even my own employees and their kids, is that
you know, when you go out for Halloween at nighttime,
trick or treating, there's a lot that you got to
(42:21):
be very careful about. And you know what's important is
if you're a homeowner and you're hosting people coming to
get candies, I really recommend it. As much as you
want to make the place look spooky and scary, make
sure to light up your walkway, make sure that people
are walking through a clear path. Because every year it
doesn't fail, we get a phone call from somebody who
(42:43):
has fallen on someone's property because either you know, they
had you know, they had you know, stuff that was
sitting in the way. They had these you know, big
spooky you know dolls that they at their foot got
tangled on. You know, they had unsafe areas they try
to make a dark not enough lighting, and people have fallen.
(43:06):
I had somebody last year who fell and broke their
leg on the property of another person because it was
not lit up. So as a homeowner, I would just
encourage you. As much as you want the place to
look good, make sure you make it safe. And then
from the other side, you know, for all of us
that take our younger kids out for Halloween, it's important
(43:27):
for us to be safe. Look out for the cars.
As much as we think that people are paying attention.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
They're not.
Speaker 6 (43:34):
And a lot of those pedestrian accidents occur as well.
So I want everybody to have a great, great Halloween,
but please please be safe out there and make sure
to say make it safe for others.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
All right, great advice, Jacob. Oh what are you addressed
as this year? Jacob?
Speaker 6 (43:51):
So I am the Let me see what this says.
It says it's a lube and goat. I mean, if
I'm supposed to be a plumber.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Wait stop, Jacob.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
I'm Larry, Larry, Larry.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
Jacob, Jacob, what are you addressed? Ass? Hold on? Let
me look. What do you mean? You don't even know what.
Speaker 6 (44:14):
You're wearing for slumber? I'm Larry the Plumber.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Larry the Plumber. Okay, so you got butt cracks going on?
Is that what you got going on?
Speaker 6 (44:25):
There's something like that going on. Yes, as long as
I keep it, you know, as long as I keep
it appropriate for an office, for an office Halloween party.
I'm trying to be within the spirits of Halloween.
Speaker 1 (44:37):
With all due respect, the image of you dressed as
a plumber with your butt crack showing is not something
I'm going to carry with me.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
I'm just being honest, Jacob.
Speaker 6 (44:49):
I promise I'm not going to send you a picture
of the butt crack. How's that?
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Frid Please, thank you, thank you, be safe, Happy Halloween.
Speaker 6 (44:56):
Thanks guys, Go Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
