Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's continue on Fred Rogan Rodneys peat on a five
to seventy l A sports. A lot going on this weekend,
but obviously the biggest thing going on the Dodgers opening
the playoffs against the Padres. You know, it seems somewhat
sad that this series probably would be great as the
National League championship series.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
You know what I mean, it would be that it
would be epic. I mean, it's shaping up. And we've
seen this in the past well and in kind of
all sports where you like, look up and go and
why the two best teams got to play in the
early rounds that they should be playing in the championship series,
and it doesn't always work out that way, unfortunately. But
but you're right, I think that this would be a
(00:43):
special championship series and I and I also don't like
the fact that this is a this is a five
game series, you know, I like the seven game This
this kind of heavyweight battle. And I yes, I am
saying it because I think I think San Diego has
(01:04):
grown into a heavyweight fighter. They've moved up the ranks.
You know, maybe they were a middleweight few years back,
but I think they've moved up to heavyweight division and
you like to see two heavyweights go at it when
it all is on the line.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Is this a rivalry now? I kind of think it is.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
It is, but I think it becomes a real one
depending on the outcome. If the Dodgers beat them and
beat them handley and you know, go run away with it,
you know, win it in four or sweep them, then
you go back to going there's still that little team
(01:51):
that could that wish they could. But if it goes
the other way and the Padres do beat the Dodgers
and they knock them out of the playoffs two out
of three years, then it does turn into one. Then
they become they might become the new San Francisco. That's
what I was going to say. See, I think right
now everybody hates the Giants. It doesn't matter. Everybody just
hates the Giants.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I think you're getting to that same point now with
the Podres, and I think that's very real.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
I think people's dislike for the Podres at this time
could be as great as their total dislike for the Giants.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yeah. No, I agree. I agree with that. I agree
with that, and.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
You know it hasn't been that that Giant Dodger kind
of real rivalry. I mean, I know they played a
few years back, but it wasn't that real, you know,
cutthroat rivalry like like before, you know, kind of when
you know, bub Gardner was going at it and and
Buster Posey was there and they you know, Giants had
(02:53):
won a couple of times. That kind of rot. It
had been there for a minute. But I think that
the pod is now that they you know, kind of
perenthially in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
They they have taken that place.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
And I think that the Padre fans have stirred that
up as well, because let's face it, we don't like
the Padre fans.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
They're they're they're.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Becoming a little arrogant, like you know, the San Francisco crowd.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
All right, so now it's time to trash talk to
Padres eight six six nine eighty seven seventy. Let's hear it.
Let's bring it, because you know they listened to us
in San Diego on the app. People in San Diego
do listen to it?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah they do.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
So this is your shot. It brings up we'll be
afraid step up, and who's going to start? Man Will
and Guardina Manuel thanks for holding go ahead.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Run shot double a, Ronnie Fossio. Get ready for the
Champagne Road. And it's gonna start by bitch smacking these
padres right back down that five free way like we
did a couple of weeks back. Then we're gonna jackknife
the whole NL send them out a commission, right, just
(04:07):
like a jackknife rig on the side of the freeway,
Freddy outro. And then we're gonna meet those Yankees. It's
gonna be like eighty one all over again. All right,
we are going to hand the New York Yankees their
heads on a silver platter. Now, San Diego fan, if
you're listening, you keep looking at that empty trophy case,
(04:30):
you keep looking at the.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Fifty plus years.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Of not winning a damn thing, because now you're gonna
add one more to it. This is the Dodgers year.
Something was awakened, Freddy. I don't know if it was
Victor Briggs Haikus or what it was, but Shohey has
been awakened, and he has awakened the rest of this squad.
I'm seeing something I haven't seen in this team since
(04:55):
twenty twenty, and I love it. Dodgers will be world
champions Sandria, San Diego. You're still our Botch.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, man, well yeah, it's just bring it finish. That's
how you kick it off, right there, Manuel with the opening.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Call eight six six nine eighty seven, five seventy. Let's
go Jeff in Silver Lake. Jeff, we appreciate your holding.
You want to trash talk to badways and their fans.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
Sure thing, you know, Rodney, you almost got it right.
Instead of a middleweight, they are and have always been,
a featherweight, sub five hundred livetime career, winning percentage zero championships.
The Dodgers have lived rent free in their heads for
fifty plus years. It's gonna be a beatdown of epic proportions.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
I cannot wait.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Botch, all right, there you go, Jeff like that. I
like that.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
They've lived run free in their heads for fifty years.
In h we got a couple of great ones and
start us off, Fred. I love the trash talking. All right,
let's trash talk them. Let's do it. Eight six six seventy.
Lewis and La Lewis, appreciate your holding. What do you
have for us?
Speaker 5 (06:14):
All right, guys, love the show. I got something to say.
It's short and sweet. But the San Diego Padres, the
San Diego Clippers and the San Diego Chargers has something
in common, and that's zero championships. They will always be
losers because that's what they're good at, and number one
at losing it is. There's nothing in life but supporting
(06:36):
our LA teams, Go La Dodgers. I hope they we
face the Yankees with the Yankees and go La Rams,
La Lakers, right and La Kings Davy. It's all about latch.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Everybody got that. Maddy started to be telling him, and
everybody's following suit. I love it, I love.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Yeah, there it is, all right, So we're trash talking
Padres and Padre fans. If you want to be a
part eight six, six, nine eighty seven, two five seventy.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Oh god, so.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I'm not on the East coast. Oh no, it's gonna
be about four o'clock. And the last few times Gino
has called while listening on the app, it always seemed
like he started his weekend early.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Oh now he's.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Gone, Oh, that's too bad. That's too bad because Gino
usually starts his weekend early with us, and God only
knows what he'll have to say. All right, let's go,
let's go to Palm Springs. Listening on the app, it's Eileen, Eileen,
go ahead, Eileen.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Oh, I hate the padres. And once again you'll be
sitting at the kids table at Thanksgiving as usual.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Because there's a little kid.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Aleen.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
Yeah, it's all you know.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
I've heard you guys say that, and it's absolutely true.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Well that's great, and El do you watch Fred in
the Desert on TV?
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (08:05):
I do.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
That's what I'm talking about. Love that.
Speaker 9 (08:11):
I watched. Okay, okay, I'm from La all my life
that I'm here now, of course I do.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yes, right on, I think, well, we appreciate it. Thank
you for listening and watching.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
You know. She watches the Neighborhood. That's what she said.
Uh huh. We do this thing called good neighbor. Have
I told you about good neighbor? No? Oh, good neighbor.
Good neighbors are best.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
So years ago, when I'm a Channel four, I come
home and Rachelle says to me, there's this thing it's
called the next door app. And I, when I don't
know what the next door app is, she goes, Oh,
the kids and I send send to each other stuff
back and forth, all the time. It's hilarious. I said, well,
what is it. Well, people just report stuff that happens.
So give me an example. Classic there's a naked man
(08:58):
running down the stream with a stick on Kowanka. Somebody
posted this in the next door app. Naked man running
down the street with a stick on Kawanga. So I
just started to laugh. I thought, that is hilarious. So
then I look into this thing. There are probably more
people looking at the next door app than watching the
(09:18):
Channel four news. That's what people are really talking about
because they don't.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Wait, are they posting real things that have happened. So
there really was a naked man running down Kowenga with
a stick with a stick. Yeah, right, So they post
people who take a photo or video and they post
it on the next door app.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah, or they just report what they saw. So I
started thinking about it and I went, wait a minute,
this is what people really care about. I mean, we're
having all kinds of TV story meetings to decide what's
important or the news that should be covered. What in reality,
this is what people want. So when I came out here,
one of the tent poles of this project was something
called good Neighbor and good starts. It's it's betted with
(10:02):
the music from mister Rogers Neighborhood, Good Neighbor, Okay. And
every day we go through the next door app and
we find things that people say and it could be
I'm looking for an Avon distributor in Rancho Mirage, anybody
know what? And we do like five things a day.
It takes us maybe eight minutes to put this together.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
It's did you say an Avon distributor in Rancho? Correct? Yes,
Avon Rodney. All right, take me back to nineteen seventy five. Well,
obviously where am I? Where am I? Right now? Right on?
Right on? I get it, I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
So and so people post this stuff, we turn around
and put it on and good Neighbor, which is about
forty seconds long.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Good neighbor.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
If that is the number one thing we have on
that show, Wow, good Neighbor. And it's because it's what
people are already talking about. You know, it's pretty simple.
You talk about what people are talking about, they're going
to be engaged with you, or you can tell them
what you think is important because you're the pro and
(11:11):
they might not care. So Eileen, she watches the neighborhood.
She knows good neighbor. She knows good neighbor.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
That's hilarious, hilarious.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Also, did I tell you about weather here? How I
do weather? Super weather?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Have you never talked about superweathers super well? Now, okay, no,
you don't do La story kind of weather.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Oh no.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
So here's the thing. So if you watch TV news
and in LA for many years, a lot of people
did not so much anymore. Weather's a big driver, right,
everybody wants to know what the weather is. Well, you
can get it on your phone, but that doesn't matter
because they still do it nineteen times a newscast. So
there's ACCU Weather, there's First Alert Forecast, right, there's a
(11:59):
storm track. Yeah, everybody has branded their weather channel seven
always had Megadoppler seven thousand, Right. Everybody called their weather
something to try to make it seem really big because
we know people were watching for weather, all right, So
(12:20):
everybody has a name, and a lot of these are
even franchised. You have to license the right to be
first Alert forecast. And I've always maintained in La as
Fritz he did weather for years. What weather you know?
I work like I don't know a month a year.
Otherwise it's always the same. Fritz would tell you that,
and he was a weather man. All right, So I
(12:40):
come out here and we know what the weather is here.
So I said, we're not going to do first alert,
whether or acual weather or storm tracker. We're going to
create something bigger than all of them. This is how
I prefaced it. This is going to top all of those,
and we're going to call it super weather because super
(13:03):
is much more important than first Alert or ACCU weather.
If it's super it can't be any bigger. So we
created super Weather, and the weather forecaster out here is
just terrific. Her name is Chloe Carlson. So here is
super weather. I say, now it's time. Chloe has the
super weather forecast. She'll stand in front of the map.
(13:26):
She'll look directly into the camera and go, it's still hot.
And that's the it a superweather. That's the whole weather forecast.
There's no maps, there's no due point, there's nothing. It's
her for about five seconds every night. You know, I
(13:47):
can't take this. I'm just sweating. That's super weather and
that comes in. She comes in for this, well.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
She does the other newscast. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I mean they actually have real stuff. But you know,
for me, she does that. You want to know what's
the number two thing on the show? I do super Weather,
good neighbor from the next rap and super Weather.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
And all they say every day is it's hot. I
she can't say it's hot.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Some days she comes in and she's playing music and
we have like a background of a pool and it
looks like she's gonna dive in. It's just it's she
was a performer as a kid. She was an actress
as a kid. So she's really good and she's so funny.
But that's a whole weather forecast. Weather is like nine seconds,
(14:36):
I swear to God.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Okay, but what happens if it's uh, you know, I
get that from what end of April through the end
of what, middle of August, middle middle of October.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
It's hot, it's hot. You know, it's hot. It's still hot.
Now it's October, it is still hot.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Yeah, But when you get into November through March, is
in the weather change a little bit?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
And then get come to the seventy five eighty or
what do you say? Then you won't say it's hot, No,
it's whatever. She wants to say. She makes it up
every single day. It's whatever she says.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
But every time it's five seconds. Oh yeah, it's just
super quick. It's like super weather.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Okay, right, one time we took a shot of her
and she goes, what am I doing here? That was
the whole weather.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
If it's raining, did you say it's raining? And shot off?
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Well, to be honest with you, to be honest with you. Okay,
we got to get back to the calls for a second.
But since you asked about rain, we have the Rogan
Report Storm Center and anytime it rains here, I kid
you not. And we made a sign that said Rogan
(15:46):
Reports Storm Center and we put it in the ground outside.
All right, so we just stick it on the ground.
I take a mug that says NBC Palm Springs, and
I put the mug beneath the sun and then we
just let it rain. Because the other station is traditional
local news. Oh my god, you're gonna drown. It's flooding.
(16:07):
Everything that doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
We all know that. Not here.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
I take this cup and I go back on the
set and I pour it into a glass. I said,
this is how much it rained today? Where everybody else
is telling you you better evacuate now, God forbid, there's
a problem. We wouldn't do that, But that doesn't happen
very often. I just take a mug and collect the
rain and the mug and then I pour it into
a class and I hold it up. Well that's how
(16:33):
much it rained today, and we'll cut the superweather and Chlode.
You'll go, yeah, he's right, and that'll be the end
of the weather.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Really in depth, Fred, I like that, Yeah, really diving
into the details, buddy, it's kind of you know what,
there's information, there really is a lot of information in it.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
But then it's also a parody. It's this combination of both,
and that's what scared people in La. They couldn't figure out,
Oh my god, we can't do this. And I kept saying,
why why can't we do it? Well, yeah we did
it in the movie La Story right. It was seventy
two and sunny, right. I mean, what every day? Why
can't we do a pair? Why can't we do something
(17:16):
with It's also a parody.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Yeah, where the rest of the country are dealing with
real weather situations, like there's hurricanes on the East coast,
there's things going on in the South part and Florida
and North Carolina, all that kind of stuff, even up
the eastern seaboard. But in LA, how often do we
get rough weather?
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Really? I know? So why not? It's not.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
But let's not make it like it's something that we
got to dive into and need fifteen minutes to discuss.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
You're all right, I don't know how we got started
on that. Let's get back to this trash talking. I
don't know how we were diverted. Let's go Kenny and Anaheim. Kenny,
we appreciate your holding. Now you want to trash talk
these Padres and their fans. Oh, Carrie, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (18:02):
Carry it's carry carry one is Terry like the movie?
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Oh okay, well that's not Gary movie. That's quite the icebreaker.
I'm Carrie like the movie.
Speaker 9 (18:16):
Spell the same, okay, t things. Giant fans are arrogant,
but at least they've won something. Padre fans haven't won anything.
Oh they don't. Just hear it to be arrogant. And
the second thing is, you know the reason they can't
beat l A. They can't spell anything else.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Oh oh there you go, all right, then you carry
Harry Carrie coming with it. Yeah, but you hate carry anything.
You know what you can finish with that, bring her back,
bring her back. You've got to finish that, all right,
Ryan and San Clemente, Ryan, thank you for holding. What
trash talk do you have for us?
Speaker 5 (19:00):
What's up, guys?
Speaker 8 (19:01):
So good to talk to you both. I want to
say this, La and San Diego. Ah, No, there's only
one Padre in the series, and it is the Dodgers
because we are their daddy. We're not your brother, we
are their daddy. And another point you guys, that they
use their our leftovers. What's up Darvish Machado, thews, the
fell flap for us in the playoffs. These are their stars.
(19:23):
The Padres have them and count on them time and
time again, so enjoy those leftovers. We are their daddy.
We are the class and they are the knockoff brand.
And speaking of class, when we win this series, we're
gonna let loose Keik to go put his hip for
us to work on tatis Bia all.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Because you know, Padre in Spanish his father. So yeah,
we are there. They're there, daddy. Leftovers are sloppy. Second
spreads what he said. Okay, well, are sloppy seconds. I
don't know darbis are swapping seconds. But all right, Jose
in La Jose, what do you say?
Speaker 9 (20:06):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Guys?
Speaker 10 (20:07):
Lifelong Angelino currently living living in San Diego. Here in
the whole est the moment. Hey, hey, Fred, real quick.
The other day you were talking about the fan intensity. Well,
first and foremost when they were they had that shot
after their game at game two beat l A, No
One mentions that they added that sound effect to the PA.
They needed the assistance of the you know, the sound
(20:28):
guy to at their crowd up. And second of all,
they're walking around here acting like the baseball man. If
anybody knows if Dodger fans know what's up, the baseball
gods are real. All that pettiness with the tickets, The
baseball gods are real, dude, and they're in for a
root awakening.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Man, Yes they are.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Get you know, I get there, a temp faddy, I'm
going back to yesterday. I get there. Temp trying to
limit the Dodger fans. But Dodger fans are so savvy
they will find a way. Like I said, Pam Tone
is going to get into that building with thousands and
thousands of tickets and they'll be distributed, so it's not
a not to worry. They can do whatever they want.
Dodger fans are gonna find their way to get into
(21:11):
that building. Yeah, but by doing it again that makes
them weak exactly.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
So I'll ask you this, where do you think the
more vocal, fired up crowd will be in this series?
Dodger Stadium or San Diego?
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
You answer that question because you talked about it. What
do you think?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
What do I think?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
I think the people in San Diego will be completely
out of their minds, the ones that actually sprung for tickets,
the ones that actually decided to go. I think they
will be completely and totally out of their mind because
that's all they have now. They've lost everything else, so
they need something and the padres are that something?
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Are they thinking that the I mean seriously, were they
thinking that the crowd because the crowd was was was
pretty intense for the Atlanta series, that crowd is not
going to.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Be available to go to the Dodger series. Is that
what they're worried about?
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Or the price tag went up for the Dodger series,
so their crowd in San Diego is not gonna be
able to afford it.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
I mean what they had a ruckus crowd for the
Atlanta Series.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
They were crazy, they were wild and and it was
like you can appreciate that, and I think they will
be I mean't make no mistake about it. Crowd down
in San Diego, when the Dodger go down, is going
to be out of control. They're going to be out
of control. No matter how many Dodger fans are there,
the San Diego fans will be out of control.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Right.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
But I think the issue with the Dodgers here at
the stadium for anybody going tomorrow night, because this is
normally the way it works.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Everybody's excited, everybody's up and here we go.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
And as long as it's as long as things are
going well, the crowd is in at every pitch, and
if somebody gets a big hit for the Dodgers, then
there's an explosion. All right, we know all that. The
concern here is the Dodgers fall behind. There's always a
point with the crowded Dodgers stadium where they're in it.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
They're in it, They're in it, in it. Uh oh,
against quiet. It gets quiet.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
That happens anywhere though, That happens most places, well that's
might in most places that that if another team gets
up four or five runs on somebody, then then the
crowd gets goes quiet if you looked at it. Even
just recently, Houston is known for having a crazy, wild crowd,
but that crowd was silent during that series with the Tigers,
(23:40):
and so, yeah, we've seen it before. As long as
the game is close, Dodger fans will be in it
because Dodger fans know that one hit one, you know,
one pitch can change it with the lineup that we have.
But if we're down four or five runs, that makes
it a different story, which you know, you remember those
that that game set end of the World Series, when
(24:01):
we got down early, it was like you get hear
a pin drop in Dodger Stadium for eight innings.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Yeah, it was awful. Yeah, that was the worst I've
ever heard it. Yeah, it was terrible. It was sad
and terrible. It's like everybody in the stadium had all
of the air sucked out of them, yep, and they
just had to sit there like mummies.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Yeah, and that was bad for eight innings. Yeah, Frank
in La you want to trash talk, these guys go.
Speaker 11 (24:24):
Ahead, Rodney, Fred, the Padres are like Billy Barty for
who don't know Billy Bardy was.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
He was a Dorf, a.
Speaker 9 (24:38):
Midget and you stand the.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
Padres next to you, stand the Padres next to Shaquille
O'Neal as that midget, and now they got to climb up.
But see there's no lenders to be used with.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
That. Yeah, there was world. We really couldn't let the air.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It's not it's not often, Fred, did we get a
Billy Bardi reference on our show?
Speaker 1 (25:11):
I don't think we ever have. And after that we
didn't let you here with Frank, I had to say,
all right, let me see. I think there's one more now,
is it Fry Fry in Torrance?
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Are you there?
Speaker 7 (25:25):
I am, It's Fry?
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Go ahead?
Speaker 7 (25:27):
How you doing good?
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Fight on, Rodney.
Speaker 12 (25:31):
You know the the Padre fans are my opic as
Raider fans, but it starts at the top, like the
parents to the kids. It's the organization to piggyback on
what you're saying about the ticket. Uh, the restrictions, Like
the organization is scared. They need to call up Fred
McGriff and Tony gwinn and re sign those fools. Because
(25:53):
Maddy Machado is soft and come and get some bead beach.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
There it is, And I gotta tell you, And that's
fine to say. I don't think Manny Machado was soft.
I think Manny Manchatta was scary. I only wish he
would always for the Dodgers, but in a good way.
I mean, yeah, and the good he's I mean he's
a he's a bad boy, bad boy, but he's also
(26:20):
a bad man meaning bad being good. That's what I'm
I wish he would have done for the Dodgers there.
I wish he would have played for the Dodgers like
he has for the part.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
And I think he would have if he, you know,
that year was a rental, and had he signed a
longer deal with the Dodgers, I think he would have
like the way he's played down there, and and and
probably even better. But I think he was playing, you know, obviously,
to see where he was going to go next year,
and and his play did not warrant the Dodgers signing
(26:52):
him for a big deal.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
You know what I.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Think just talking about this, I actually think when you
look at the Padres hitters, they look scarier than the
Dodger hitters.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Scarier in what way? What do you mean scarier?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Like, Oh God, I don't want to face Manny Machado.
I mean, Mookie looks like such a nice guy. He
was just a nice guy. Freddy Freeman, he's a good guy.
Tatis and Machado, Well, yeah, you could go there, you
could be White. Was a nice guy, Freddy, but he
would knock the you know what out of you? Is
that about being a nice guy out of that? When
(27:25):
he steps in the box, MOOKI is as scary as anybody.
Same thing with Freddy.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
You're talking about you Rather you'd rather face Machado than
Freddie Freeman. Or Otani's a nice guy too, but he's
a beast when he steps into box. He apologizes to
the dug guy when he hits a foul ball in
their dugout. A nice guy, but man, between the lines,
they are a beasts. There are many nice guys that
you shake their hand. It's any nice guy, a nice guy,
(27:52):
but competitive wise, no, there is mean as a snake
and anybody in the business. So as we get ready
for Game one of the Dodgers series tomorrow night, the
Lakers open the preseason tonight let's talk about that a
(28:12):
little bit next.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Oh, come on this Friday, Fred, It's Friday. Let's keep
it moving.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Fridday beat Fred Rogan on a Friday. A lot of
trash talking going on, Fred, and we love it. A
ton of trash talking going on, a ton of trash
talking going on, and we do like it, all right,
Laker fans. Preseason opens tonight. They'll be playing at Acrashure
Arena and Palm Desert. They'll take on Minnesota. And it's
really funny.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
The only story, the only story anybody seems to be
talking about, is Bronnie James and lebron James and uh,
the big, the big meeting on the court and when
they will play together. That's it, I have to tell you.
And I know even nationally people are talking about that.
(29:05):
And I will say it again. I think this is
blatantly unfair to Bronnie James. It's great, he's going to
be out there with his dad. The Lakers picked him,
He's got to earn his playing time. I think to
place any kind of an incredible expectation on him is
really unfair.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
And who's doing that?
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Oh, I think Rodney. You know we live in La
and we know this, but even out here, oh my god,
Bronnie James, they don't understand. They know what they know,
but they don't know what we know. They don't realize.
They're just Oh, he's going to be there, and it's great,
it is going to be great. But just don't be
unfair about it. I mean this one picture postcard moment
(29:48):
where they're on the court together, which they openly admit
they want to take care of early in the season. Now,
let's just get this done. You guys will be out
there together and it'll be great. But unless Ronnie James
becomes Austin Reeves immediately, he's not going to be out
there all the time. I just think this is a
giant story surrounding the Lakers, but nobody act.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Them to be out there all the time. Who expects
him to be out there all the time. So I'm
trying to get at people like that, who thinks he's
going to be out there? I think they will think that.
And I think the real story here is one person
I'm not talk to. One person thinks that he's going
to be anything more than playing in the G League,
and and and and it is a one game, two game,
(30:34):
whatever it may be, that he shows up and is
called up and and they they are on the court together.
If you're going to draft him, you have to do that.
You know, sense drafted him. Why are you drafted him?
If if if you didn't believe that this could be historic,
and you're not, there's no plan to have them on
(30:56):
the court together, they would have drafted him. They that
is part of it. Say what you will say, you
don't like it, or it's nepotism, and it's all those things,
and maybe you ate it. But at the end of
the day, they will play together. They will get the
photo op, they will get all the things and be
the first father son to ever play in the NBA together,
(31:19):
and it will be a moment and then it'll die
down and things will happen. But to suggests that he's
going to get crazy minutes and be an integral part
of the Lakers season this year's it's unrealistic. I haven't
heard really one person say that. At least somebody, anybody
that is of significance that knows basketball or NBA or
(31:40):
knows this team.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Well, I think it becomes a story. I think even discussing, well,
when is he going to be out there with them.
I think the story here is JJ Reddick quite frankly,
and how he does in his first year as coach
and how he can hopefully take the Lakers forward. You
know the Lakers, Well, he didn't do anything during the offseason.
Connect and Bronni and that's your moves. Okay, that team
(32:07):
wasn't good enough last year. That team was, uh, you know,
bottom of the conference playing last year. Now, do we
expect Lebron to have the same kind of year?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
We hope?
Speaker 1 (32:17):
So he only gets better now worse. So you hope
he can a d was a monster last year? Will
he have the same kind of season?
Speaker 3 (32:26):
You hope they were?
Speaker 2 (32:27):
They were the only two and and maybe they're hoping
that at Austin Reeves steps it up and as they
and in his third year, he takes a giant leap.
Vanderbilt takes a giant leap. Gabe Vincent who didn't play
at all last year. You know, there are other guys
I believe that internally believe that that will take a leap,
(32:50):
or either that were hurt last year and didn't get
that opportunity believe they will take a leap.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
And you know sometimes.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Signing guys for the sake of signing guys is not
always the best thing either.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
No, I agree, but I don't think what they have
to do now is anticipate that the roster will get
better simply by the fact that they're back for another
year together.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Will the Angela Russell be better this year? He may?
He may?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
I mean JJ Reddick has been talking with him. The
Angela seems to be embracing what jj Reddick is preaching.
Will he be the guy they hope he will be
this year? You know, if all of that comes to fruition,
you're better than you were. If all of that comes
to fruition, you're better than you were.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Yeah. Is really they get better?
Speaker 2 (33:40):
I mean, I mean it's it's they got players, and
they were you know, there's points where they were in
the mix and they could play with anybody, just did
long stretches and the way they fell behind and had
to play catch up was difficult. But they have the opportunity.
They have players that they can play with anybody. It's
just consistency. And in sports, a lot of time you
get on a roll, or you get confident, or you
(34:03):
get a few games going and it's rolling the momentum
can excel you, and maybe that's the thought process, is
that they get off to a better start, they have
a better meddle, and they won't be a playing team,
and maybe they can get some momentum and keep guys
(34:25):
healthy that will help them get a better seat into
the playoffs and possibly go deep and win it.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Well, yeah, that's the hope. That's the hope.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
On paper, it doesn't appear that way. But you don't
went on paper. Nope, no you don't. No, you don't.
I mean, I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
The story is JJ Reddick and how he handles all
the details of being a first year head coach as
a guy that's never coached before.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
How does he deal with you know, not only.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Superstar like Lebron and superstar like Ad, but how does
he deal with the pressures of being the Lakers coach
because he's not the coach in Denver, or he's not
the coach in in Detroit. You know, it's the Los
Angeles Lakers where the standards, like we just talked about
for the last couple hours of the Dodgers, the standard
is that high, and so how is he going to
(35:19):
deal with that? That is the story of the season.
All the other stuff will fall into place. But his
story is how does JJ Reddick handle this team?
Speaker 3 (35:30):
And you know what, I think you'll do a good job.
I do.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
He's smart, he focused, he communicates well. I think he'll
do a very good job, and he certainly knows basketball.
All of those things obviously contribute to being a good coach,
So I think he'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Times will tell what did you say?
Speaker 2 (35:48):
He's smart, focused, understands, has a high basketball like you
And you say that about eight million coaches that have
been through the ranks.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
I don't know if they're a smart as he is.
He's smart. How do you know that has he ever coached?
How do you know he's maybe smart? Purely analytical standpoint?
The smart guy you went to do it because he
went to do because yeah, we hire guys from Harvard.
Then if if that's the case, we're going to go
that route, let's get let's get all the guys from Harvard.
(36:21):
That Princeton basketball program is pretty good. Why don't we,
you know, get anybody that went through that program, because
they seem to find a way to get wins in
the tournament all every single year, right left talent so
let's get those guys in there. If you hired somebody
from Princeton, look at it like this, you'd win the
NBA Playoffs every year because they're good in the tournament.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yes they are, Yes they are, and then you give
them talent and all of a sudden with those smarts.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
We don't know, fred stop it.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
We don't know how he's gonna do, just because saying
a lot of guys out there got great basketball IQs
Chelsea Billups has great basketball IQ. Would you doubt that?
Speaker 3 (36:58):
I agree?
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Okay, right, so you know he's struggling in Portland. So
it's about about the players. You don't know until you
get into the mix. A lot of smart guys out there,
but everything has to fit in order for it to work.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
If you weren't with us.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Bill Plunket or the OC Register was on during the
first hour and he reported something on Freddie Freeman. We're
gonna let you hear what he had to say. Come on, Freddy,
it's Friday. Oh Freddie, tell me how you really feeling
about tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Man.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
I'm feeling good, Reddie, I'm feeling good, you know what.
Just want to get out of the first inning. I
know it seems very simplistic. I just want to get
out of the first inning because we want Yama Motor
to go out there, get them right away, and the
Dodgers make some contact in the bottom of the first
get somebody on, you know, show build a little momentum
(37:59):
and get things going.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
That's exactly the.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Dodgers start fast, because that's something that they've struggled to do.
They they're they're you know, history especially this year has
been they don't start fast, and you want to see
them start fast, whether that be pitching getting behind. I
mean we've seen it with you know, guys that have
come in Bobby Miller, Walker Buller, even Yamamoto that get
(38:22):
you know, kind of hit around in the first two
innings and then they then they got to play catch
up and then offensively, the Dodgers kind of don't necessarily
get going until the fifth, sixth innings, So you want
to see them get started early. That that that to
me is going to be key because I think that
if if they do and they get ahead of the Padres,
(38:42):
it puts even it puts more pressure on the Padres
being behind than if the Dodgers are behind.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
I think the Dodgers can't play from behind.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I think that the padres if they get behind the Dodgers,
it becomes a oh, this big bad machine is.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
Rolling on us, right, we let it happen here. They
come that kind of they come a damn all.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
No, I guarantee you. They're telling their manager, they're telling themselves.
We got to get on them early. We got to
get we got to get ahead early. We got to
score runs first because they don't want to get behind.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Bill Plugget of the OSI Register was on earlier and
he was talking about Freddie Freeman, and he shared this little.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Jewel with us.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
Based on what we saw yesterday in the sim games,
I'm not sure Freddy's going to be in the lineup tomorrow.
He took at bats, but he didn't run out of
the box and he didn't play defense. So that tells
me that that ankle is still limiting him. And I
have some serious questions about whether he's in the lineup tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
What do you think, Rodney, I'd be shocked if he's
not in the lineup. I'd be shocked if Freddie's not
in the lineup, and in a simulated game. Look, I've
been in plenty of scenarios where guys the day before
game did not practice, or the guys did not run
all out, or receiver that was you know, coming off
(40:12):
of an injury, didn't do much the day before or
two days before. But I would be extremely shocked if
Freddy is not in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Yeah. Well, physically it comes down you heard Bill, what
can he do if he can't I'm.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Not running out of the boxes. Not an indication that
he can't run.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
No, that's fair, But I'm saying if there are concerns
about that, or he really can't quickly, then he can't play.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
It's that simple.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
I mean everybody was more concerned about his mobility around
first base, and Brendan Gohm said that's not going to
be a problem. You don't need that much mobility around
first base. So then it would just come down to, Okay,
how is the ankle? Can he run? He can run,
then he can play. So I think that's really that's
what I took from what Bill report. It right, because
(41:02):
everybody didn't have to run in a SIM game. You're right, No,
no I'm gonna hit. I'm not gonna run it out.
You know, I'm gonna save it. I'm gonna save it
until I actually need it, so I you know, I again,
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna buy into the fact
that he didn't run in a simulated game to him
not playing.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
I think, uh, I think he'll be in the lineup,
all right, Okay, I think he'll be along.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
Next hour, we'll talk more Dodgers, but we've got to
bring Vinnie on and get ready for the NFL this weekend.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
Next
