Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's go Happy Monday, Good morning everybody. See
just as scripted. Not a doubt in my mind. We
knew we'd have a parade on Monday, Rodney, we talked
about it. We talked about it, we said, see you
at the parade Monday. We absolutely said it. It's on
tape print, it's ay minute. Never a doubt, baby, never,
(00:21):
never a doubt. And look where we are right now.
What a ride? What a ride? What a weekend? Yes,
we'll open the phone lines and let you comment starting
in the next segment. We don't when we do the
morning show and people want to talk, we let them talk.
So that's coming up in the next segment. So much
to get to. Let's start with this our coverage. We're
(00:43):
off and running here. We're on till nine. Then David
Vasse will join Tim Kates and Steve Sachs. That will
lead you into the parade Petrosen money. We'll then drive
you home after the parade. Parade starts at eleven am
Temple Street and Broadway moves along the forty five minute
parade route on Temple's South, on Grand West, on Seventh,
(01:04):
North on fig ends up at Fifth Street. Then we
know what happens. Everybody in the stadium who knows the
surprises that will be in store this year as the
Dodgers come through the gates, the fans can welcome them.
And Rodney, here's the deal about that. I know tickets
are expensive to Dodger games. We know that it's hard
(01:24):
for people to go. So if you don't get a
chance to go to the game, this might be a
chance for you because the tickets are not as expensive
as they would be if you went to the game.
So there should be a good sized, crowded Dodger stadium
greeting the players this morning as well. Yeah, if there
was anything like last year. Last year the stadium was packed.
And you know, Fred, before we get going here, can
(01:49):
we can we just can we just have a new
model or a new saying or new creed to our show,
especially now that we're gonna take calls today. Remember a
few years back when when the balls were at the
top of the news and LeVar was everywhere, and you
made a stance at that moment you said, we were
(02:12):
not going to be that show that catered, We were
not going to be that show to just put him on,
just to put him on and you created the no
ball zone or what did you call it? Ball zone? Yes,
you did. You created the Nolavar ball zone because everywhere
you turned at that moment, they were everywhere. He was everywhere.
(02:34):
First of all, yeah, I don't fault the kids, but
he was everywhere talking. I can't. I don't want to hear.
I know what's coming longest I know here, I don't
ever want to hear Dave Roberts doesn't know how to
manage or what is Dave Roberts doing. I think we've
(02:56):
closed the book on that one, Freddy. I mean, we
even had it as recent as last week somebody had
tried to rip Dave Roberts apart. Can we put it
into it now? Can this be the day? November three,
twenty twenty five is the day that we stopped questioning
(03:20):
whether or not Dave Roberts can manage baseball. That was magnificent.
And you know what, you know something, you know what?
It makes it even better. It all worked, It all
worked when it was supposed to work. Yeahred, I'm tired
of it. To Rodney, I really am. And you now
watch the shows, the network shows. What are they talking
(03:42):
about Dave Roberts can manage. Yeah, Dave Roberts knows what
he's doing. Dave Roberts knows exactly how to treat his players,
Derek Jeter, Dave Roberts knows exactly what buttons to push. Yeah,
Dave Roberts can manage. Whether you think he can or can't,
he can't. He's now got three of these things. He's
doing Okay, he's doing all right, And you have to
(04:06):
keep a mind to five. Yeah. I started thinking, well,
you want to you want to just do game six
and seven? Because I actually started making notes yesterday about
the entire playoff run. Do we remember how the whole
playoff run began? In the wild card? How incredible this is?
(04:27):
It seems so far away. Cincinnati come into town right right,
But now you have to look at it in its totality.
How did the playoff run begin? Show? Hey O, Tommy Homer,
Oh Tony Homer, Oh TONI with a home run to
lead off for the Dodgers. And that's how this journey began.
And then it ended the way it did Friday nights game.
(04:47):
Let's just do that because everybody's still thinking about that,
and we'll do Saturday. So Friday Night's game was a
n ail bider. Friday Night's game, everybody was on the
edge of their seat. You didn't really know what was
gonna happen. But the thing I took away from Friday
Night's game was Key k Hernandez sprinting in. Yeah, lost
(05:14):
the ball somewhat in the lights, running in full speed
makes the grab Blue Jay Runner and they made a
lot of mistakes on the bab Oh Barger. I love
him as a young player though. I think he's very,
very talented and had a big playoff run. But you
can't make that mistake, and they made play by Kiki,
(05:34):
Don't get me wrong, great heads up, even said it.
I cheated in, probably was playing too shallow, but the
power for ju Menez was to right field, not left field,
so I thought I could cheat it in a little bit,
and sure enough that that made the play. He got
an incredible jump. And they were saying something about Kik
because it's what the Dodgers do. They have guys like
(05:56):
Geek Tommy Edmonds, guys that can play Rojas, play all
over the field, all over the map, and Key k
being a infielder by trade and being able to play
the outfield, made an infield throw to second base. That's
a play you make charging at third base or charging
at shortstop to throw somebody out of first base. He
made that throw, throwing a guy out at second base.
(06:20):
But man, if you're Barger, you cannot get thrown out
in that situation because remember Springer's coming up. That's exactly right.
You can't get thrown out. He got thrown out, and
he got thrown out after Miggi Rojas, Oh did a
magical grab. That was not an easy play by any
(06:42):
stretch of the imagination, not one bit. But keyk made it.
Miggi Rojas made it. That's what I took away from
that game. Yeah, you know what I took away. It
took that away for sure, because that was a great
way to end it, and I think that just gave
him so much momentum going into a into Game seven.
But what did you think when Yoshi came out of
(07:04):
the game, Because he had it, he didn't quite have
it like his complete game, but he was still I
thought dominant. I thought that he still kept him off guard.
But when he came out, he came out with in
the sixth I believe what did you think I thought
that he although you couldn't tell Rodney, Yeah, I thought
(07:26):
they could tell he was gashed at that point because
they would have trotted him back out there. But you
know what I loved. I liked Robluski. Oh man. I
love that. I did. I mean, I liked him. He's talented.
I think he hits up ninety nine. He can get
it up to ninety nine on the left handed passeball.
But I didn't know he had that dog an hing
(07:47):
like that. Hearing what he said after the game and
the way he went went at Yemen is one hundred
percent loved it. I loved it. He was though you
just tried to get hit with the ball, stuck his
hand out there and the next bits. Okay, I'm a drillia.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I can take care of that. Don't worry about it.
I can make that happen. Come see me, he said,
Come see me, even just didn't want any part. I
loved it, Oh man. I did not know he had
that kind of dog in him, and I love it.
I loved every minute of it. And that was a
huge stage for him. Oh yeah, and by the way,
(08:28):
that's twice now he came in. Yeah, and got the
job done. He came in earlier in the series and
got the job done. So, Yes, Robleski, I was thrilled
to see that. Loved to see that. Yeah, love to
see it. Imachin, Hey did the job. Yeah. I thought
(08:52):
the way they handled that because you were wondering, Yeah,
who they're gonna go to? And then what how long
is Sasaki gonna be able to hold up? Can he
hold in? Can he hold it there? And when he
started to kind of and they brought in glass, now
(09:13):
he was ready to go. I was like, I love
this team because it's it was absolutely all hands on deck.
That was a as complete a team victory in this
World series that I've seen in a long time, where
almost everybody on the team contributed. Let's go to Game seven,
(09:35):
Let's do that. Dave Roberts told the story after the
game that Mickey Rojas's wife said to him before the
series began, you're going to hit a home run. You're
going to hit a home run. He goes, Babe, I'm
not even playing. How can I hit a home run?
You know, I've got my job to do. I meant
I didn't get into the game. So before Game seven,
(09:55):
she said to him again, today's day you will hit
a home run. His wife told him that today's the
day you will hit a home run. When he oh,
my God, for my money. If Yamamoto, and we'll talk
about this later, we'll do a segment on it. If
Yamamoto is not your MVP, Biggi Rojas would have been.
(10:17):
It ain't even in question. Miggi Row is the MVP
if if Yamamoto didn't go freaking nature on us. Yes,
meggi Row. The plays he made at second base, and
I know Tommy Emans made some great plays. He made
some glove to glove to first base plays where it
(10:38):
was bang bang and the pick by miggi Row was great.
The throw home with the infield in where Will Smith's
foot came off and then came back down on the
on home plate. He threw a strike after he stumbled.
He threw a strike to Will Smith to get the
out to preserved to win. But yeah, he played his
(11:01):
ass off and Fred I don't know. He's such a
great guy and a great teammate. That's your root for
him every time he's in the game. We talk about it.
We talked about it all season. We root for Miggy
Row he's just a professional, he's a great teammate. When
he hit that home run, I don't know if I've
(11:24):
been more happier for a guy. I mean, I was happy,
obviously if the Dodgers because they tied it up in
the ninth inning. But can you imagine that moment is
a as a eight year old kid in your backyard,
you're dreaming of that moment, bottom of the night, top
of the ninth we're down a run. Oh it's a
two outs. I think it was one out though, but
(11:46):
you're dreaming of that moment, and you hit a home
run to tie it in the ninth inning. There has
to be no better feeling for him in that moment
to do what he did, because first of all, nobody
expected it from him, and you know, you look the look.
The looks on the fans were something, But I think
(12:07):
the look on the players was even a better capture.
They were like, no f and way, Miggi Rojas tied
this game up and it wasn't even close. Fred, it
was a no doubter. Basically, y'all got out of there.
Yeah he knew too, Yeah he knew when he swung
he looked up and he's, yeah, I didn't scrape the
(12:29):
back of the fence that got out of here. It
was crazy. Will Smith. Oh my god, that's another unsung guy.
That's another guy. If you don't give that MVP to
Yamamoto and miggi Row, you got to give it to
will Smith. Will Smith, he caught every inning of the
World Series. You know how hard that is, including the
(12:53):
eighteen inning game where he didn't come out. And remember this,
there was a question of whether it even playing the
playoffs because he was hurt. Yes, yeah, yeah. Game seven
that was one for the ages man and you know,
(13:15):
going in there. And then you know, when I said
it too, I was like, because you know, Otani's been good,
but he hadn't been dominant. Yamamoto has been dominant, Otani
has been no good. And then he kind of they
catch up to him. And when Bashitt hit the three
run home run, first thing I said was, thank god
(13:42):
it early in the game. Thank god it was early
in the game. He has that in the seventh any where,
it's you know, he breaks a tie like that, it
might be tough, but he hit it early in the game.
It's think, Okay, we've got a lot of game left,
and the way these games have been going, it was
that was not going to be the end of it.
It was not going to end three nothing. Dodgers are
(14:02):
going to fight their way back, and they did. You
got to give it to a lot of guys that struggled, Fred,
because it's easy to go in to take and just go,
oh man, I just can't. I can't get it going.
I'm just I'm struggling. I'm my head down. Max Munsey,
how big was that home run? That big home run
in the eighth inning off of you Savage. They brought
(14:24):
him in to shut it down, and he had a
bomb off of you Savage that put it back to
one run. And when you get it to one run,
even if it's the eighth or ninth, then you feel
like you can. All it takes is one, and it did.
Miggy Rose the home run to tie up. It was
a total team effort. It was a total team effort.
And if you really look at everything that happened to
the Dodgers throughout this playoff rutten, because I did. I
(14:47):
looked back at everything yesterday. You know, as tight as
it was, as scary as it was, they were destined
to win. If you look back at critical keen moments,
it could have gone either way. I think twice in
the World Series the Blue Jays had guys picked off
Basse just walking from first to second because they thought
(15:08):
a hitter had actually walked and struck out, and they
doubled the guys up. I think that happened twice. It did.
It happened, and it happened to Springer. Whose Springer there
twice he thought it was two outs? How about Barger
that play, there's another one right there. Start thinking of
those things that happened that the Dodgers wouldn't do. The
(15:29):
Dodgers could get beat, but they're not gonna get beat
like that. They're not gonna be walking around not knowing
how many outs there are. Those are the little things
that the Dodgers don't do that other teams can do.
Think about keuckering Strow to the plate in the Philly series.
He made the wrong play. Now it happened to eliminate
(15:50):
the Phillies with the wrong play. The Dodgers wouldn't make
that mistake wouldn't happen. In the Brewers series, Key k
comes running in from left field, catches the ball, throws
back to first and doubles up a runner. Yeah, just
as he did with the throat of Mickey Row in
Game six. That's not gonna happen to the Dodgers. I
(16:11):
assure you of that. That ain't happening. They're not making
that mistake. And if you start looking at everything that happened,
and even though it was very tight and nerve wracking,
the reason the Dodgers won because perfect relay. The perfect
relay from tail to Tommy Edmonds. Right, how about that play? Yeah?
(16:32):
How about that? And then how about Tommy Edmund rifling
a guy out at third in that game? Perfectly? Same game,
same game. So start thinking about that, and then you go, okay,
even though it was tight, Yeah, the Dodgers are the
better team. Sure, Toronto hit the ball, but it's all
those little things that make such an enormous difference that
(16:54):
the Dodgers. The mistakes they don't make. Those mistakes. Go
back to the Yankees last year. They made running base
winning mistakes. Dodgers took advantage. Look at the playoff run.
Now Dodgers take advantage. It's more than you beat the
Blue Jays. It's a statement. This team made a statement,
you better beat them, And Joe Davis said it at
(17:16):
the end, he said what he said, to beat to
be the champs, you gotta you gotta knock them out.
You gotta knock them out because if you let them
hang around, they've been there before, they've seen it before.
There was not a nervous bone in their bodies. And
I believe every one of those guys believe they were
(17:37):
gonna win. As long as that game was in striking distance.
I believe they thought they were gonna they were gonna win. Uh.
And you're right, You're right. If you if you don't
blow them away, they're gonna come and find a way
to make you make mistakes and they're not gonna make
them in critical times. That's it. That's exactly how this
(17:59):
played out. I mean, in the look at the big picture,
that's what happened. Everybody made mistakes and they just took
advantage of them. And even though they come early in
the game, you go, well, what does that mean. Well,
let's look at what it meant.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Now.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
In the ninth when that runner that was doubled up
for you could have scored a run and you could
have won the game. Those are the things that Dodgers
don't do. Other teams do the mistakes they make, and
then you have to have some breaks. Rodney Mickey Rose
throw to Will Smith. Will Smith got his foot on
the plate by about I can't even tell you. It
(18:38):
was so close, but I guess you could do a
stop watch that fast right the bang bang of it.
But he had it. Yeah, I mean, that's a break
if if and it was inches. If that doesn't happen,
that's a different game. Was pointed out to me somebody
I was I was looking up something and going back
over the game. If you look at that and believe
(19:01):
it was Yemenis who was on third base, he had
a terrible secondary lead. That was it. He was near
third base at the time the ball was hit, and
normally in that situation, base is loaded as soon as
the pitcher's in a wind up. You got to extend, extend,
So if that ball is hit on the ground, you're
(19:22):
only running about halfway. He stayed close to third base,
which made it a longer run for him, which was
the difference in that particular play. It was, like you said,
it's those little things. So those little things. How many
times did the Dodgers score a run from third base
(19:43):
where they beat the throat. Incredible, incredible. I was trying
to go through it last night and yesterday. I don't know.
I don't remember a World Series like that. For it
the first of all be game seven and go seven
(20:03):
games was was great for everybody. But the drama in it,
the back and forth and at the resilience of the Dodgers,
it was. It was incredible because you gotta believe there
were a lot of folks doubting when they they lost
two or three at home. Oh, he's going back to Toronto.
But we sit it on Friday. It's something about this
(20:25):
team and Ned. Let you know, we'll see at the parade. Yeah,
and Ned will join us. Uh during the eight o'clock
hour this morning. All right, it is time to hear
from the fans. Let's go A six six nine eighty
seven two five seventy A six six nine eighty seven
(20:45):
two five seventy that is the number to call. We
want to hear from you. Let's open the phone line.
Start celebrating on this Monday. Fred Rogan Rodney Peak Championship
Day in La at a five to seventy LA Sports.
We oh yeah, we are ready. The whole squad is ready.
(21:15):
We are with you live here on a Monday morning,
taken over for DP. It is parade Day, Parade Day
in Los Angeles. Never a doubt. I know all of
you people out there, never doubted that there would be
a parade here on Monday. As the Dodgers left for
Toronto last week to go play two games, we knew
(21:36):
they'd come back champions and we'd have this parade today. Fred,
we were already prepared for it. Everybody was. Actually, yes,
they were prepared for it. That's not a lie. The
last Thursday, they prepared for it. They were prepared to
have it if they'd won in five here on Corriday.
(21:58):
But when they knew that wasn't a possibility, he said,
I we'll just do it Monday. Yeah, everybody was prepared
for it, that needed to be prepared for it. Also,
this early ratings are out for Game seven, So did
anybody care about this? The most watched World Series game
since twenty seventeen? Game seven? Wow? And those numbers will
(22:21):
get bigger. These are the fast early numbers. When everything
is totaled together, they'll be even bigger. So anybody care? Yeah,
they cared yeah, they did. And maybe they cared because
it was the United States against Canada. I don't think
that's why they cared, but somebody could say that. You know,
I think they cared what they wanted to see the
(22:41):
Dodgers get beat. Of course, that's why they care. They said,
all right, they're on the ropes. Let's see if these
guys can deliver the knockout punch. That's why people cared.
And by the way, that's good for baseball and that's
good for business. Rodney, Yeah, no, it really is. And
I think these these all of these these playoffs have
(23:03):
been fantastic. You know, we were I don't know about you, Fred,
I was consumed with it. I can't. It's been I'll
be honest, it's been hard to get into it's been
hard to get into football because of the excitement that
that baseball has has provided for us. In the end
(23:25):
of September and October playoffs. I look, I was. I
looked forward to the playoff baseball games and I did
two Sunday NFL games. I mean, it's not even a question.
And Major League Baseball they have they are in the
middle of a renaissance and they have turned it around.
They were not too long ago, fred people were saying
(23:46):
baseball's boring, Baseball's this baseball is that there wasn't an
iota of boring baseball in the month of October. I
don't care who you're watching, you're right and in this city,
for example, a great point yesterday, I'm thinking to myself,
and all I did yesterday, by the way, I don't
know if a Dodger fans what you did. All I
(24:07):
did is looked at highlights of all the games. Yeah,
that's all I did. I said, all the Rams are playing. Okay,
they beat the Saints, great charge. Fine. I was like,
I didn't even it didn't register. I watched the end
of the Raider game. But I sat there and went,
my god, how many weeks have they been playing? If
(24:30):
you don't even realize how long football has been going on? Right,
because we've been so consumed with baseball. Here's another little
shocker secret for you. The Lakers are also playing. I thought,
you know what, maybe I'll take a look at this.
Last night I did. It's like, oh, yeah, the Lakers
are playing. Hey, they beat Miami way to go. I thought, oh,
(24:50):
I don't need to see this now. It was like, ugh,
regular melb was playing every game. They played every game
and all day long. And I I sat there and well,
I think I watched two of them, three of them, right,
and you know they played Game one and two and
then they ended up playing game It was, uh yeah,
they just replayed them. I think Sportsnet replayed games then.
(25:12):
I don't know what they replayed, but that was flipping
back and forth, and I was like, you, let me
just go see a score real quick. Who's winning? Oh? Yeah,
the Rams win and Chargers beat them? Okay, cool? And
I flipped it back and what's Game three? I mean, yeah,
it's it's really weird. We said it, and it would
be different in any other city, even he had a
team in the World Series, but you had an NFL
(25:34):
club there. The NFL team always takes precedents. I'm telling you.
You can disagree, but we know football is king in
this country except here. And it's no disrespect to the
Rams or the Chargers. The Dodgers are the brand in
Los Angeles, and it's because of the way they've done things,
the way they put the team together, the way they've
organized things, the way they reinvest in the team to
(25:56):
take care of the fans. Yeah, you know, it's funny.
I hear the fans said, God, I can't afford these games. Okay,
but every dollar you pay, they reinvest to make them better.
This is not your investing, and they're putting it in
their pocket. They make the team better, so they see
either and they're in the community, right, Fred, That that
that not everybody notices, but think about they. I would
(26:20):
I forget the number, and I'll get that number at
some point. But they have built so many baseball fields
and ballparks and and and helped out boys and girls
clubs around the town that they are well represented, which
I think is why they get so much love. Fred.
They're not an organization that just sits back. They actually
go out in the community and really put their dollars
(26:41):
into the community as well. Yeah, it's big, it's big.
It's it's funny. Though. As you started this, Yeah, I
thought how many Honestly, I thought to myself yesterday, Wow,
now how many games have they played in the NFL? Huh? Yeah, okay,
(27:01):
And I thought, well, listen, Eric will be on this week.
We better figure out what's happening. Really, that's exactly what
I thought. I mean We're almost halfway through the season,
right right for us, the football season begins this week
for us. This is kickoff. Yeah, it's week one. All right,
let's get these calls. And Daniel and Chino, good morning
to you. Thanks for calling. You thought Miggie Rojas was key, right, Hey.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Yep, good morning. Thank you guys for having me on.
I think Miggi Rojas provided that shot of adrenaline they
needed in a moment where they were looking a little
bit down, and he kind of changed the morale of
the club. And I think that was a real key
call on Roberts. And it was real cool to see
a moment in a World series where throughout the series
you feel everyone had a chance to contribute significantly, Like
(27:49):
even Pahz, who I know was probably beating himself up
about his batting percentage, made arguably one of the most
important catches in that whole game, along with Will Smith.
So it was just cool to see how it all
came together slowly, and like y'all said, you got to
give Roberts his flowers because everything he did worked out
perfectly when it needed to. So amazing world series to watch,
(28:12):
and I'm glad we got to experience it all.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Right, Daniel appreciate that. Thanks for the call, man, He's
absolutely right. I mean Pi hez Pi has went all
Kelly Leak bad news bears on us. Just ran over
key Kate and took that ball. I don't know if
Tommy Evans makes that play. I don't either. And did
you hear what happened after he caught it? By the way,
(28:36):
and I did look back. Yeah, Piz did hit some
during the World Series run. Of course he was absent
at the plate, but still even Piz makes a critical contribution.
And did you did you see this? So Piz goes back.
I watched different people make the call. I mean Joe
Davis basically said he's ran over yea, okay, Uh, key
(28:58):
K stayed down. Ky K was on the ground. You
know why we're down. He was on the ground because
he didn't realize Pie has caught the ball and he
thought the Dodgers lost. That's why he stayed on the ground. Yeah,
Pie has had to go get him. If you see
Pie has he starts to run back and then he
checks him over his shoulder and say, wait, let me
(29:19):
go back, k K, let's go. I caught it And
then everybody was happy again thought they lost. That was
how incredible that catch Pie has made. Yeah, and if
you if I had somebody I was, you know, obviously,
like you said, we sat there Sunday just breaking everything down,
watching every little clip and social media. Somebody broke down
(29:39):
the amount of ground that he covered on that play.
I believe he started almost in right center field and
he made the run and and got there and made
that catch. Was incredible. And that's another thing for because
he didn't start that game, Fred, they just Dave Roberts
put him in the game. Yep, yep, Dave Roberts put
(30:02):
him in the game late and he goes and makes
that cat. So just incredible, just said so many, so
many guys contributed.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
I was saying, he covered one hundred and twenty one
feet on that run.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
And by the way, Tommy Yevan on that bum ankle,
not making that play, No, not making that play. In fact,
he and KEYK probably run into each other. The fact
that Pie has taller than key K actually really helped.
All right, let's go to Baldwin Park, Oscar. Good morning,
Thank you for holding go ahead.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
When gentlemen, what a beautiful Monday morning. But best way
to start the week. I think it'd be possible for
me to become more of a Dodgers fan than I am.
I already am and was, but I am this team.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Man.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Everybody had their moments in the playoffs. Every single player
had their moments in the playoffs. It was a team.
It was a team win.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
And I got to the point that nineteen Link tied
it up and went to X ratings. My buddies, I
was watching the game and I told him, no matter
Winter lose, which I was hoping they win able Winter lose.
I'm proud of this team.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Man.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
They they they gave it. They all all season, all
to the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
They came back.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
They battle, man, did they for all that they talk
about the payroll this and that they're scrappy team. They
they're competitive and they they they're built to win.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Man.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
And shout out to everybody at the top. But if
I got you guys, have a good day.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Thank you, Oscar right, appreciate it. Iggy and Huntington Beach,
you guys, good morning, good morning.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
First of all, hats off to the station and both
of you guys covering this team all year, your insight
just yeah, you guys make make the Dodgers the Dodgers
on the air with the fans when we're not watching
the game, and thank you, hats off, excellent job. Do
you think k is catching that ball over his shoulder?
(31:57):
I think he would have, but you might have. You
might have tried when he hit the wall. But what
an incredible play.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
The thing about key K on that play, given the
way he had played all the way through, Yeah, he
could have made that play. He I think it had
been like the remember that Chris Taylor played, Yeah, uh
in one of those I think it was n LCS
against Milwaukee mill sliding into the wall on what field. Yeah,
it would have been a play like that. But given
(32:26):
the way Key K had played the whole World Series,
in the plays that he made, you got to believe
he would have made the play. Yeah. And let me
just say this about I'm going to give him the
benefit of the doubt. He would have made me too,
me too. Let me let me say this about key K,
and we say it on the air all the time.
I talked to some people over the weekend about it.
They said, oh, you know, key K, do you understand
that if there was an all playoff team. Key K
(32:49):
Hernandez would be on it. He is one of the
scariest guys to face in the playoffs. And he will
make plays in the playoffs that I am telling you
other people who will not make the throw to double
up a runner against Milwaukee, the throw to get Barger
against Toronto. I mean, those are big time critical plays. Yeah,
(33:12):
and I am telling you other people are not going
to make those plays. And you know something else. I
don't know if he makes them during the regular season,
but I know this, he's gonna make him in the postseason.
I know this. During the regular season, when key K
steps up to the plate, they Keyk's on, Okay, I
were gonna pitch him. In the playoffs, when key K
(33:34):
steps up to the plate, the opposing team is, how
are we going to pitch him? There's a just yeh,
don't relax. Don't you dare relax. I know he's hitting eighth,
but you better not relax. He hit a bomb on you.
He hit a big play. Yeah, you're right. He There's
certain guys that just have a feel for the moment
and the lights don't get every don't ever get too
(33:55):
bright for him, and they look forward to those moments
and there, and they're they're the level of calmness in
critical situations, in big time situations where their heart rate
calms down. And Keyk is one of those guys that
lives for it. And I mean it's like clockwork, Fred,
It's amazing. And it's not, oh, every two or three
(34:18):
years Keik has a big postseason. It's every single year
he's doing something big. Tell me a guy you'd rather
have on your roster during the playoffs than Keyk? Tell me?
And the Dodgers are loaded with guys that can play. Yeah,
why is a guy that during the regular season he's
really okay, he's okay? Why is he a leader in
(34:39):
that clubhouse? Because he is? Because when the lights of
the brightest and the stage is the biggest, he steps up.
He just knows how to play, and guys rally around him.
I mean, I had the conversation with somebody who was
telling me, I don't get Keyk. I just don't get it.
You don't. How can you not? He is as important
(35:01):
as anyone on that roster in the playoffs, and maybe
more important than some guys. Now think about that, because
during the regular season he's a reserve. Yeah, he's playing
third base. He's playing second when guys are down taking
a day off, or heard or whatever, playing shortstop. We
saw it all season long. He's starting left fielder in
the playoffs. Think of that. Think of that in the playoffs.
(35:26):
This guy who was kind of a reserve and gave
a guy a break here and there is the starting
left fielder. Yeah, that tells you all you need to
know about his value in the playoffs or right, the
board is full. Stay with us. We will get you on.
Fred Rogan Rodney Pete were on early celebrating the Dodgers
on a five to seventy LA Sports number thirty one
(35:50):
would give Toronto World Series bases loaded, two outs. The
pitch clement if sit in the air, left field kick
a Hernandez running back hits in the gap, is on
the track that converge. Pies reaches up and makes the
catch as he crashes in the kik.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
Oh my gosh, we're going next readings.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Oh what a call, What a call. What a great
play by Andy pie Has, who didn't start that game,
came in and for defensive purposes at the end and
made a great, really game saving play in center field.
Running over Kik and then lifting him back up. Just
so many moments, but that was that was definitely a
huge one. Yeah yeah, kek Uh Well, k k had
(36:37):
great moments. Pie has had that moment. Got people on hold.
We will get to you the next hour. We'll come
back probably in our second segment and take more calls.
So if we don't get to you this hour, if
you want to stay there, we'll get to you next hour.
If not, you can call back him all it's go
to downy. Want to appreciate you holding. Oh you want
(36:57):
to thank the Blue Jay fans? You know it?
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Man?
Speaker 2 (37:01):
You know all I heard and which was true. All
the Dodger times.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Are out of it.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Oh they're not motivating our boys. Oh they you know.
I heard on the TV. I heard it by David Batsay.
I heard it by the announcers everyone. Maybe my brother.
He's my brother's an lapd. He was working at the
parking lot at Dodger stated he's like, hey, bro, the
crowd is dead in there and on the bro not
here at our house. At our house, my neighbors kids
were going crazy. We just can't go to those games.
(37:27):
Those tickets are too pricey. But I really want to
thank the Toronto Fians. They didn't shut up. They pumped
up our boys only if they knew the damage that
they were doing, which was pumping up our.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Guys by shouting we don't need him, we don't.
Speaker 6 (37:43):
Well, he's okay, we got him. You don't need him.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
You're right, you don't need it. We got him at
the end, we got it. So I really want to
thank that's Rock the Cropper, just not giving up. I'm
pumping up our boys. And one more thing, the Blue
Jays lose.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Nice one.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
I enjoy your weekend, man.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
I appreciate it. One. I love that the Blue Jays
lose because when the Blue Jays beat the Yankees, you'll
remember Vladi Guerrero was on with Big Poppy and they
kept doing that. The Yankees lose and and uh, glad
to go, come on, baby, give me another one. Nah,
(38:25):
And now the Blue Jays lose. Yes, you know, he
brings up And we're gonna talk more about this when
we get back after the top of the hour. But
let's just talk about the Canadian fans. I don't think
they know what hit them. I think they were shell
shocked beyond belief and don't confuse the fact that here
(38:46):
in LA, where the Dodgers are part of the fabric
of southern California. Yes, the Blue Jays are a big
deal in Toronto, but they're really not like the Dodgers.
And after the game I heard some people talking about,
let me tell you, in the last nine days, I
became a baseball fan. Think about that. Yeah, hey, what
is this baseball? Oh my god, I'm just I'm fascinated
(39:11):
by it. They don't they haven't been around as long.
Obviously they don't have the kind of fans Dodgers do.
They don't. And also they Canada's great. I've been to Toronto,
love the people. They're not as sophisticated a fan in
baseball as the Dodger fans. They just aren't. They You
would describe them like if it's almost a reverse right,
(39:34):
like if you put hockey, if you talk to them
about hockey, then they're probably more They're probably more versed
in hockey than LA fans are. They are, And there
are people in LA that really know hockey. Absolutely take
the Canadians. You're one of them, so you know hockey.
But but I'm saying, just in LA, like you just mentioned,
(39:56):
we live and breathe the Dodger Baseball, And like you said,
I think that they they got into the Blue Jays
this year. Now, the Blue Jays, they do have a
good fan base, Don't get me wrong, they do, they do,
but it's they haven't been to the World Series in
thirty years, thirty plus years, so you say their show shot.
Wellt here we are spoiled because every year we think
(40:19):
we can win it. Every year we're going to be
in the conversation. So you know those years that the
Dodgers lost the World Series, you knew next year, Okay,
they're right back in it. It's been thirty years since
they got there. So we don't know. They don't know.
You know, they've got some free agents coming up. They
don't know if they're going to resign, Boba shet. I mean,
(40:39):
it is a team where this was their shot and
are they are they going to be there next year?
Because remember they went from last to first, right, well,
their manager and GM would have been fired at the year. Yeah,
I'll all right, let's do one more here before the
top of the hour. Let's go Raoul and the Ie. Raoul.
(41:01):
You you think Dave Robinson knows what he's doing right.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
Hey.
Speaker 7 (41:04):
I call him last year around this time and.
Speaker 8 (41:07):
Saying that I wouldn't call the show anymore dogging out
Dave Roberts, And I was sposed to doing it a few.
Speaker 7 (41:11):
Times during the year, but I kept my word.
Speaker 8 (41:13):
Every move has got made in Game seven, putting in Pajes,
taking out Robisky, putting in Snell, taking him out of glass,
now taking him out, all the way to your Yamamoto
putting in Roja that second.
Speaker 7 (41:26):
It all worked out. Every single move worked out, man.
So I wanted to call the show and say, hey,
this is our manager, Like you or not, you gotta
appreciate what he's done at the Championships in six years.
I mean, the guy passed Tommy the sword of Man
gives the many flowers, and once again I will not
call him back dogging out Dave Roberts any longer.
Speaker 8 (41:47):
Maybe next year, of course, of course, thanks for the call, man, Yes, yeah,
we appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
Raoul. All let's see, let's do okay, let's do one
more before we hit the top of the hour, Rodney
for now, Okay, because this is a critical moment. Randy's
on in Riverside. Now, Randy, you bring up a really
good point. Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (42:11):
Yeah. I think the most important point that Chicas didn't
mention yet was that when Dean when that ball got
log and those two runs scored and they had to
come back. We were going to lose that game. And
that was a heads up play. It didn't touch the
ball and everybody had to go back. And I don't
think they scored anymore runs after that. I think that
(42:35):
was the most pivotal play that hasn't been really fixed
it yet.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
That was the play that Bargara got picked off at
second base. Remember they couldn't score because it was a
ground rule double. And and by the way, if you
go back and look at that, it was key K
who put his arms up first because Dean made a
run for the ball. Yeah, he started to run for
the ball and looked at KEK was yelling at him,
(42:59):
yelling at him, hands up. And Keik had his hands
up and Dean put his hands up. So both those
guys made the heads up play. But Kei K Kei
K assisted in that in a big way. Here's the question, Rodney,
And thanks for the call. I think you're right, Randy,
I think you're right about that. That deed and play.
Here's the thing is, I'm watching this, so I'm sitting
(43:19):
there screaming, put your hands up, put your hands up.
If he makes a play for the ball, yeah, is
the ball live? Oh yeah? So if he doesn't put
his hands up first, So the deal is you put
your hands up first, right right. That kills and then
because at some point he picked it up and grabbed
it and threw it back in. But you got to
(43:40):
put your hands up first and give the umpire enough
time to recognize what happened. And once the umpire and
they made a good call because I saw the clip,
the umpire in the left field immediately immediately said to
ground rule double immediately. So they did. They all did
the right thing. That play was played and umpired perfectly.
(44:04):
But what I'm saying is, so if he picks it
up right away, yes, if he goes and picks that
up right away, it's a it's a live ball. It's
a live ball. See So what you said, Key K
who looked like he was freaking out at that moment.
I mean he was very demonstrative and putting out his
hands and jumping around, and you could see Dean moving
(44:24):
towards the ball. He looked at key K and immediately
put his hands up. That's what happened. Dan didn't do
that first. He saw key K yelling at him, put
up your hands right, because if Dean makes and that's
what I thought, if he goes to grab that ball
and tries to pull it out, it's a live ball, yeah,
and both run score. Yeah. It's like yeah, it's like
(44:48):
they were talking about too. It's like, you know, you play,
you don't see that other than playing at Wrigley Field,
when the ball goes into the ivy right then guys
will put their hands up and it gets stuck in
lodging there. I saw MLB d Row from DeRosa from
MLB Network went out there and attempted to lodge the
(45:09):
ball where that ball lodged and couldn't do it. He
had to shove it. He had to shove it in
manually with his hands to get the ball to stick there.
He tried. He threw it about fifteen times as hard
as he could at the bottom to get it to
stick there, and he couldn't do it. Little things like
that for that to happen in that game, that's at
(45:33):
Barger's at least at third base and they score a
run there, and it turned out it was a double play, right,
That's what I'm talking about. That's what I said earlier.
It was destiny. All right. We're way over now. We're
not used to doing the morning show where you really
have to stay on the clock. You know, on our show,
we just do whatever we want. But here we have
(45:53):
to be on top. So what we'll do is take
the top of the hour break when we come back
a piece of audio. You have to hear it. You
have to hear this. If you've not heard it, I
don't know how you'll react. If you have heard it,
it will infuriate you. Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete On the
day the Dodgers celebrate their World Series championship on a
five to seventy LA Sports
