Speaker 1 (00:03):
Okay, we continue on Fred rug and Rodney Peat on
five seventy LA Sports Dodger News coming up with it's
let Kevin will have that in a few minutes. And
by the way, I should have done this an hour one.
So it's my bad, my bad. We have to give
two pairs of tickets away for the Chargers game. We
have no choice. We are obligated under state law to

(00:25):
do this. Chargers Eagles Monday night. That's gonna be a
good ticket. That's a big game. And Justin Herbert expected
to play for both teams. It's a big game. Yeah,
it is. So we have two pairs of tickets. We
have to give them away this hour. You know what, Rodney,
Let's just give a pair away right now. Let's do it.
Eight six six nine eight seven two, five seventy who's

(00:47):
going number seven? Okay, callers seven? Right now? You are going,
you are doing it. You're going to see the Chargers
and Eagles on Monday night. Oh and on that Dodger
news that Kevin will have coming up, and it's split
Baseball Winter meetings next week. We are there, we'll have
it covered. We'll be all over. It's starting Monday. Nothing
better than the old hot stove. It'll be sizzling, it

(01:10):
really will. There's a lot of anticipation for this offseason.
Oh yeah, so this is gonna be fun and we'll
have that as well. Now let's get more to Chris Paul.
There's one man that can provide the answers, the salty one.
Adam Austlin, The SALTYA the host of the Clipper pregame,
halftime in postgame shows, plus his own YouTube show, Adam,
Welcome to the show today.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
This is gonna be fun. Hey, it's good to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
All right? You want to just get to it? Go ahead,
do me, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
No, I'm not gonna get a question approach.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Don't you know what happened? We sat here and speculated
for twenty minutes. Just go at him, go what are
you talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
What do you think happened?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
I'll tell you what I think. I think Chris Paul
became more increasingly frustrated. I think Chris Paul is always
operated under one premise, a way to get things done,
and he has been successful at it. I think there
was a growing frustration with this being his last year,
the frustration mounting that he can't go out like this.
I think he tried to resort back to things that

(02:10):
he believed worked in the past, and they probably did,
but this is a different group at a different time,
and it didn't work. And when push came to shove,
it just wasn't gonna happen. And I told him to
go home.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
That's what I think, Well, what do you need me
for then?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Fred? Why am I mean? I got it right? This
is great.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I think for the most part, his personality can be
grading on guys. This is what happens. It's not like
he hasn't left other spots and other players haven't been upset.
I love CP three. It's complicated because he is likely
the franchise goat. This is everybody's favorite player in Clippers
franchise history. And to see this happen during his farewell

(02:49):
tour when they brought him back and there were all
these good vibes and it just seemed like, Oh, this
is gonna be such a great last season for him
to go out this way back with the Clippers, and
then they'll retire his jury it into it on the
next season. And now for this to happen where there's
a strained relationship you would imagine behind the scenes. It's
highly disappointing. But I will say this for everyone, like,

(03:11):
how could this happen? How could the Clippers do him
like this? Do you think the Clippers were not aware
of the blowpack that could be coming from this, that
the reaction that fans wouldn't be upset. They had to
weigh all of that, and they still felt like it
had to be done. I mean, that tells you how
bad things must have been behind the scenes. It wasn't

(03:32):
one conversation with Laurence Frank and people, it was multiple.
There's a report from Sweet Lou Williams saying that at
one point, Chris Paul apologized to the team. So if
he's apologizing and knowing he's in the wrong for going
too far with his criticism that obviously wasn't very productive
or helpful, then what does that tell you?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
It sucks.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
It doesn't always work out the way you wanted to,
especially nothing ends well unless it ends bad a guy
coming back at the end of his career. It's really
really disappointing and shocking to see it happen the way
it did. But I understand how it could get to
this point. I think that's why there was a lot
of hesitation with bringing him back. I think this last
off season because we wondered, oh, it's a slam dunk deal,

(04:19):
so to speak, how are you not going to bring
back CP three? And the negotiation process seemed to take
a very long time. And then when Laurence Frank talked
about him returning, he was very specific about his role
as a reserve guard on this team. And they try
to make it abundantly clear that you are a role
player obviously are coming off the bench, and we don't

(04:41):
know how many minutes they are going to be. They
tried to do everything they could to avoid a situation
like this, but I think what nobody could plan for
is just the Clippers being this bad, which brought out
maybe the worst version of CP three in terms of
just how critical he can be. And you know, he's
a self proclaimed ah he wears it like a badge

(05:03):
of honor, and we love him for it. It just
like you said, Fred, just the wrong place, wrong time
to be the full version of CP three when on
the court he's obviously not the same guy and in
that locker room with a bunch of vets and not
young guys. It's not like I need to teach you
guys how to win, I need to be this type

(05:24):
of leader. It obviously the message was not working in
this particular locker room because they were only getting.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Worse had them Hey, what about the relationship between him
and ty Lou? Has it been? Were they tight at
one point or was it strained before he got a here?
How did it get so bad at him?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
My understanding is they were good because Coach Lou was
on the staff I think in his last season at
least or his last couple of years with the Clippers
the first time around his last season was the twenty
sixteen twenty seventeens before he came back, and I think
they had a really good relationship. Two point guards, guys
that understand each other. Coach Lou's been very good with

(06:08):
those guys typically. And then that report came out, and
I don't know what's true and who's version and what's
being spun right now, but it sounded like maybe they
hadn't talked in two weeks. Then he was trying to
get a meeting with Coach Lou, and Coach Lou wasn't
granting him that, so it sounded like it was just

(06:29):
nasty and Coach Lou last night, you know, he expressed
that he feels bad for how this went. It was
a bad fit. Doesn't want to see Chris go out
like this. We don't know if he'll end up getting
traded because he can't be traded till December fifteenth because
he was signed this past summer. If he's waived the
contracts fully guaranteed for about three and a half million dollars,

(06:51):
does he end up going somewhere else? Right now, he
is still technically a Clipper. He just has been sent home.
But yes, I think it was just a really difficult
situation because of all the losing and CP three.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
He's one of.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Those old school guys. He's a hard ass and God
bless him for it. But I don't think the critique
was well taken by him in this particular locker room.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, it's pretty simple. I know one way to do this.
It works. We're losing. It's my final year. I'm not
gonna sit through this, so I'm gonna have to assert myself.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Well, guys, it's not like we didn't hear about all
this stuff after the Lob City days were over. That
that locker room was miserable and it wasn't exactly harmonious.
I'm glad that he's putting the picture out now on
Instagram with him doing a zoom call with DJ and
Blake Griffin, But it was like, I wish we were
that cool when they were actually playing next to one

(07:48):
another in that locker room, because we heard all those
stories too. And look, obviously his leadership style can work,
it has worked, it wasn't working in this particular locker room.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
That's it. Yeah, what did it? I mean.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
You mentioned, you know, the goat of the franchise, the
face of this franchise and most success of this franchise,
and Chris Paul. At the end of the day, does
this get fixed?

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
And a lot of people last night were like, well,
the Clippers won the same day they let go of
CP three. I don't think this causation, correlation conversation needs
to happen. I don't think it's that simple. Lawrence Frank
made it clear he's not the scapegoat for what's happening
this season, and he's not. He's not the reason that
they were five and sixteen. He wasn't even playing that

(08:42):
much was Were his tactics helping necessarily the mood of
locker room, Probably not, But he's not the reason. It's
not his fault, and therefore I don't put a lot
of stock into they won last night because you know,
the dark cloud is gone from the team or anything
like that. They beaten Atlanta Hawks, team that didn't have
their two best players in Jalen Johnson and Trey Young. Now,

(09:04):
to be fair, they had been losing to a lot
of players that were missed or to a lot of
teams that were missing some of their best players. Before this.
The Clippers were down that bad where they lost to
a depleted Mavericks team and a Memphis Grizzlies team this
past weekend at home. And I will say the one
thing that was different last night, without a doubt, was
their collective effort. For forty eight minutes, they were playing

(09:28):
much harder out there. I am not trying to put
that on CP three. I would actually go back to
Monday night and the decision coach lou made when they
got down by twenty nine early in the third quarter,
and by early I mean a minute and a half
in to that game in Miami, where coach Lou said
enough is enough. If you're not playing hard out there,
I'm pulling everybody, and he pulled all the starters. That

(09:51):
to me might have been the difference in what we
saw last night in Atlanta, the fact that he benched
all the starters for the first time because they weren't
given a good amount of effort out there. And then
when they came back in that game against the Miami Heat,
they were down by as many as thirty eight, but
they started playing harder and they actually got to within twelve.
So if there's a difference or some type of connection

(10:14):
here with how they look last night, I'm gonna put
more into that. The stock there of just Coach Lou
finally benching everyone and pushing that button.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
I gotta be honest with you, that he wasn't there
last night might have made a slight difference. Honestly, It's
like it could be a factor, right, But you know, no,
the fact here's here's what I'll say.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Here's what I'll say postgame. Right off the court. Kobe Sanders,
their young rookie, is talking with Carlo Jmenez on the radio,
and he talked about how the leadership in the locker
room was strong today and all the guys said, we
gotta block out the outside noise, and they came in
with the right mindset. I don't think that was a shot.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
At CP three.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
It just they knew they were in a world win
the last twenty four hours and they had to find
a way to folk and they did.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, that was it. No, he's not the problem when
you're five and sixteen, that's not the problem.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
He's not plain enough to be the problem. The I
just don't think it helped. But guys, I gotta say this.
You know, I've been with the organization for almost ten
years now and I'm not an expert on much, but
if I know anything, it is the Clipper. It's the
Clippers fan base, It's Clipper Nation, and I've never seen
it more divided than it is right now. And that's

(11:30):
pretty upsetting too because of CP three being sent home
like this, but because of all the losing going on
and a lot of people being upset with Lawrence Frank
even though we all thought he made great moves this offseason,
they haven't worked out. A lot of people being upset
with coach lou and being six and sixteen. Nobody had
that on their Bengo card or however you want to

(11:52):
put it. Heading into this season, it has been disappointing.
It has been embarrassing, and Clippers fans, I've never seen
him like this before, where they're in this much of
an uproar, and rightfully so I get it. It's concerning, though.
They have to win. They have to win games right now.
The only way to cure any of this stuff is

(12:12):
just to go out there and play much harder. Because yes,
they've had some injuries, nobody cares. They've been injured before
in one games. That is not an excuse for how
bad they've been so far this season. So I really
do hope this can be a turning point. Just winning
one game after losing five in a row and fourteen
of their last sixteen, just finally winning a game, getting
somewhat of the eight hundred pound gorilla off their back.

(12:35):
We'll see if that releases some of the pressure and
they play much better as they're in Memphis tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
All right, Salta, appreciate you hanging out bringing me insight.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Love it all right, love y'all.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
So Dodger news coming up and it's lit and everything else.
That's happened today. That's next.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Make AM five seventy LA Sports a preset before you
plug in your phone. Presets in the iHeartRadio app, now
available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Just another easy
way to listen to LA's best sports talk.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Oh that's right, we are at the home of the Dodgers.
Two hour sprint for us today. Rodney Pete, fred Rogan
on a throwback Thursday. Let's go Freddy. All right, Rodney, Uh,
you know what, We'll do it after this break. We'll
do it after the end of the segment. At the
end of the segment, don't call now. At the end
of the segment, do not call now. We'll give the

(13:40):
Charger Eagle tickets away. Do not call until we tell
you to call. Kevin is gonna block the line so
you can't get in. Don't don't do it at the
end of the segment. All right, let's find out what's
going on here, let's get caught up.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Let's slip stories lighting up their sports headbox.

Speaker 6 (13:59):
Well Todd is your fan favorite and team favorite. Miguel
Rojas yesterday afternoon officially inked a one year contract extension
with the team five and a half million dollars. He
will also stay on after his contract and playing days
are done. It will assist the Dodger front office. Could
be an on field instructor, kid just join the front office.
But he's gonna be with the organization beyond his playing
years after he retires after this upcoming season.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
You know, for me, what the key there is? The key? First,
we all knew he was coming back, right that we
knew to me. The key is that they guarantee, they
wrote it down. They ensured him that he will be
a part of the organization. That was the whole ballgame
for me. He was going to do something somewhere. It

(14:44):
was a question of where, and they are sharp enough
to understand that that's a guy you need somewhere in
your organization. So I think that was the whole key.
I think that's what he wanted as well. So it's
a win win, and I'm glad they made that affe Rodney.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Was there any doubt though, I mean, you're sounding like
there was a doubt that he was not going to
be part of the organization.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Do you think there was a question. No, I didn't
think there was questions, But you know, it could have
been one of these Yeah, when you're done, let's talk
about it. Of course we're going to make that happen
kind of thing.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
Yeah, and they actually did it. But that's the way
the Dodgers do business, right.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
They don't.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
They're not gonna mess around whether if they want you,
they want you, and if if they want you and
you want to go explore the market, they'll tell you
that too. I mean we've seen that over the years
where they've said, hey, go test it out and then
come back to us and see and see what we
can do.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
But I'm glad they locked him up. I think he's it's.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Good that he's got, you know, one more year in
uniform to play and can do the fair World Tour.
And I just think you'll still be productive for this
team when they need, you know, guys to take a
break at second or short or third or whatever it
may be. But yeah, it was only right to bring
him back and to do what they did. And then,

(16:05):
you know that was the talk all last year too.
It's like he's when he's done, he's going to be
a coach a manager somewhere very shortly.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
So I'm glad they locked him up.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
So Ken roseal of the Athletic and Fox Sports dropped
I guess a little bit of a bomb for us
out here in LA about to the future of Tascar Hernandez,
he said this morning quote Tale's name has come up
in trade conversations. According to league sources, the Dodgers view
a deal as unlikely, but the idea of it at
least is not without logic. Now, he reasons the fact
that Hernandez's defense has slipped considerably these last couple of seasons.

(16:37):
He said, they could potentially move Andy Pajez to right field,
where he'd be an elite defensive player, and they could
try to acquire a center fielder. He says, Tommy Evan,
after undergoing ankle surgery this offseason might not be It
might not be ideal to have him play center field
on a bulk basis going into next year.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Now, tayl is at thirty three years old. This old
twelve million.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
This year in fourteen and a half the following season,
So that's a pretty hefty contract for diminishing player at
thirty three years old. But according to Ken Rosehal's reporting,
his name has at least been come up has come
up in trade conversations.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Hank tight Hank tight he's O twelve and fourteen. Yes,
that's a bargain for him, no matter what. I don't
care if he's not quite what he was, that's a bout.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Now.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Maybe for the teams to spend forty eight million dollars
a year, it's now. But for any team put his
bat in the lineup, what he brings, that's a bargain.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
He could also DH two Obviously that's not an option
here with Otani, So if you trade for him somewhere,
he can DH the most of the time and not
play in the field.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
But what I find what I find interesting, Rodney, is
the report. You know, it's unlikely. Here's the thing. If
somebody makes a phone call, you're gonna pick up the phone.
Is that fait report? Right? Yeah, So somebody makes a
phone call and says, hey, we're thinking you're gonna what's

(17:54):
on your mind? But how much of that is you
know real?

Speaker 6 (18:00):
That's what Ned Kalady told us, Right, yeah, I'll talk
to an assistant general manager from a team out, what
do you think about player X?

Speaker 3 (18:05):
He was like, we like player X. Yeah, so do
we all?

Speaker 6 (18:08):
Reporter, here's the fact that so and so likes player
X and all of a sudden, there's rumors out there
that than my trade for him. It could be as
simple as that.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
It's headlined.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Yeah, No, absolutely, And let's not forget Dansker was hurt
last year. He was hurt the bulk of the year
last year, coming off you know, injuries multiple times throughout
the season, which I think definitely affected his defense. But
I'm with you, freed twelve and fourteen million dollars, that's
a bargain. I don't see the Dodgers letting them go.

(18:35):
I just think his bat is too valuable and he's
been too clutching big situations for him to for the
Dodgers to trade him off unless they get something crazy,
ridiculous for him.

Speaker 6 (18:49):
I would also bring up you mentioned the fact that
he was banged up most of last year, Rodney, he
was also playing out of position. He played left field
most of the previous season. He was playing right, which
is a more demanding position. And when you're aut diminishing
player with injuries, that's just not an optimal situation to
put him in. So now we're talking about what the
future of Chris Paul will be now that he's either
going to be waved most likely. I doubt anybody with

(19:10):
trade assets for him at this point in time. So
where really end up? And of course people start making
the connection between him and Lebron James because they're such
good friends, and he wouldn't have to move, he'd be
here in LA.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Now he can't sign.

Speaker 6 (19:22):
We wouldn't be eligible to sign for the Lakers until
mid January, just based on how their roster is set up.
That's according to Bobby Marks, who knows way about more
about this salary cap and how these things function than
I do. But that's what it is. So I guess
the question is, if you were available and wanted to
be a Laker, does he add value to them in
their current situation? Would you sign him? Keep in mind

(19:44):
to be a league minimum contract. It doesn't really cost you.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Anything, Lakers.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
No, don't mean to be harsh about it. It No, that's
the last thing you need. This thing seems to be working.
The chemistry's good. It's Luca's team far more up than
they are down. There's no reason to bring Chris Paul
and they don't need him because who's he gonna play for?
Bronnie Whose ministers are gonna take because that's really the question.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Keep him on. He wasn't playing a lot of minutes
for a team that's terrible anyway.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
So okay, right, so what's it gonna be show up
to track shot and be a coach? Now the Lakers
don't need him at all. Hey, it's it's you know
that deal that should have went through what twenty years ago?

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Yeah, exactly, that's it's finally gonna it's finally gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
It's finally gonna happen. Uh no, no, no, I'm I'm
with you.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Love some CP three, but there's too much good stuff
going on with the Lakers right now and their chemistry
with Luca and Austin Reeves and Lebron coming back.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
I just it.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
You don't want to bring any kind of disruption into that.
And as we just talked about, he is a He
is a force and a vocal leader and again gonna
be a Hall of Famer. It's not like you're bringing
in somebody that's gonna sit down at the end of
the bench and just chill and not have any kind
of input on what he thinks should be done.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
So I don't see them doing well.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
If you're a Charger fan, or you have a chance
to win Charger tickets here in the next couple of minutes,
you might actually have the treat of seeing Justin Herbert
on the field that's coming Monday night, because he practiced yesterday,
says he feels good. The offensive coordinator said that they're
expecting him to play on Monday night. All of this
just a few days, basically a week after having surgery
on his fractured left hand. I know, you can say
it was his non throwing him, but Rodney, you know, catching,

(21:33):
you know, getting balls from under center, all of that stuff,
it still affects your hand in the way that you play.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
He's gonna find a way.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
To potentially power through this and fully plans to play
against the Eagles on Monday night.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, it depends.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
I mean, the hand is tricky because there's so many
bones and ligaments in the hand or the foot that
you wonder how that's gonna be. It is gonna be interesting.
The ball handling of him. It's not gonna affect him
throwing the football, and they're gonna be in chick I'm
sure a lot. But when he has to hand the
ball off going to his right with his left hand.

(22:07):
That's gonna be the issue to see if he's going
to be able to handle that. But I'm good. I'm
glad he's gonna play. They need him to play down
his stretch and get right as the as the playoffs approach.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
He's tough. And here's what I hope happens. You know,
it's different than when you play. Rodney advances in medical
treatments things like that. He has the surgery give him
a cast, but the cast goes right to his wrist. Now,
stay with me. They wrap it real tight, all right.
I hope he uses the cast as a stiff arm weapon,

(22:44):
so if anybody comes at him, he starts trying steff
arm in him and hits him with a cast. That's
what I'm rooting for. I'd like to see that happen.
What is wrong with you? Right? He becomes he becomes
a human black w E n f L. This is
play with a hardcast, brit Hey, we gotta do what
we gotta do.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
Well, that's a good call, Rodney. You got Vince mc
man in your ear again, Fred from your XFL days.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
That's what that is.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Yeah, back in the day.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
That's what's sliding up the headlines.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
All right now, wait, all right, okay, I got big.
I don't want to give the tickets away a tix
six nine eight seven, two five seventy. It's the Chargers
and the Eagles on Monday Night. Rodney would call her
number five.

Speaker 5 (23:30):

Oh that's right, we are at the home of the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Two hour sprint for us today, Rodney Pete, Fred Rogan
on a throwback Thursday.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Let's go Freddie All right, Rodney, Uh, you know what,
We'll do it after this break. We'll do it at
the end of the segment. At the end of the segment.
Don't call now. At the end of the segment, do
not call now, We'll give the Charger Eagle tickets away.
Do not call until we tell you to call. Kevin
is gonna block the line so you can't get in.

(24:30):
Don't don't do it at the end of the segment.
All right, let's find out what's going on here, let's
get caught up.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
Let's slip stories lighting up their sports headloxer Well.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
Dodger fan favorite and team favorite Miguel Rojas yesterday afternoon
officially inked a one year contract extension with the team
five and a half million dollars. He will also stay
on after his contract and playing days are done. It
will assist the Dodger front office. Could be an on
field instructor. Kids just joined the front office. But he's
gonna be with the organized beyond his playing years after
he retires after this upcoming season.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
You know, for me, what the key there is? The key? First,
we all knew he was coming back, right that we
knew to me. The key is that they guarantee, they
wrote it down, They ensured him that he will be
a part of the organization. That was the whole ballgame
for me. He was going to do something somewhere. It

(25:26):
was a question of where, And they are sharp enough
to understand that that's a guy you need somewhere in
your organization. So I think that was the whole key.
I think that's what he wanted as well. So it's
a win win, and I'm glad they made that official.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Rodney, was there any doubt though, I Mean you sounded
like there was a doubt that he was not going
to be part of the organization.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Do you think there was a question. No, I didn't
think there was questions, but you know, it could have
been one of these, Yeah, when you're done, let's talk
about it. Of course we're going to make that happen
kind of thing.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Yeah, and they actually did it. But that's the way
the Dodgers do business, right. They they don't They're not
gonna mess around whether if they want you, they want you,
and if if they want you and and you want
to go explore the market, they'll tell you that too.
I mean we've seen that over the years where they've said, hey,
go test it out and then come back to us
and see and see what we can do. But I'm

(26:23):
glad they locked him up. I think he's it's good
that he's got, you know, one more year in uniform
to play and can do the fair World Tour and
I think you'll still be productive for this team when
they need them, you know, guys to take a break
at second or short or third or whatever it may be.
But yeah, it was only right to bring him back

(26:44):
and to do what they did. And then you know,
that was the talk all last year too. It's like
when he's when he's done, he's going to be a coach,
a manager somewhere very shortly.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
So I'm glad they locked him up.

Speaker 6 (26:56):
So kind rolls with all of the athletic and Fox
Sports dropped. I guess a little been of a bomb
for us out here in LA about to the future
of Taaskar Hernandez, he said this morning. Quote Tale's name
has come up in trade conversations. According to league sources,
the Dodgers view a deal as unlikely, but the idea
of it at least is not without logic now. He
reasons the fact that Hernandez's defense has slipped considerably these

(27:18):
last couple of seasons. He said they could potentially move
Andy Pajaz to right field, where he'd be an elite
defensive player, and they could try to acquire a center fielder.
He says, Tommy Evan, after undergoing ankle surgery this offseason.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Might not be.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
It might not be ideal to have him play center
field on a bulk basis going into next year. Now,
Tail is at thirty three years old, his old twelve
million this year in fourteen and a half the following season,
So that's a pretty hefty contract for a diminishing player
at thirty three years old. But according to Ken Rosethal's reporting,
his name has at least been come up, has come
up in trade conversations.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Hank tight, Hank Tight. He's old, twelve and fourteen. Yes, well,
that's a bargain for him, no matter what. I don't
care if he's not quite what he was was, that's
about now. Maybe for the teams to spend forty eight
million dollars a year, it's now. But for any team
put his bat in the lineup, what he brings, that's
a bargain.

Speaker 6 (28:09):
He could also DH two Obviously that's not an option
here with Otani, So if you trade for him somewhere,
he can DH most of the time and not play
in the field.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
But what I find what I find interesting, Rodney, is
the report. You know it's unlikely. Here's the thing. If
somebody makes a phone call, you're gonna pick up the phone.
Is that fair? Report. Right, Yeah, so somebody makes a
phone call and says, hey, we're thinking you're going at
what's on your mind? But how much of that is

(28:41):
you know? Real?

Speaker 3 (28:42):
That's what net Kalady told us.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
Right, yeah, I'll talk to an assistant general manager from
a team, Matt, what do you think about player X?

Speaker 1 (28:48):
He was like, we like player X.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Yeah, so do we a reporter.

Speaker 6 (28:51):
Here's the fact that so and so likes player X,
and all of a sudden there's rumors out there that
they might trade for him.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
It could be as simple as that.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
It's headlined. Yeah, no, absolutely, And let's not forget Tasker
was hurt last year. He was hurt the bulk of
the year last year, coming off you know, injuries multiple
times throughout the season, which I think definitely affected his defense.
But I'm with you, freed twelve and fourteen million dollars,
that's a bargain. I don't see the Dodgers letting them go.

(29:18):
I just think his bat is too valuable and he's
been too clutch in big situations for him to for
the Dodgers to trade him off unless they get something crazy,
ridiculous for him.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
I would also bring up you mentioned the fact that
he was banged up most of last year riding. He
was also playing out of position. He played left field
most of the previous season. He was playing right, which
is a more demanding position, and when you have a
diminishing player with injuries, that's just not an optimal situation
to put him in. So now we're talking about what
the future of Chris Paul will be now that he's
either going to be waved most likely. I doubt anybody

(29:53):
would trade assets for him at this point in time.
So where he ended up, and of course people start
making the connection between him and Bron James because they're
such good friends, and he wouldn't have to move, he'd
be here in LA.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Now he can't sign.

Speaker 6 (30:05):
We wouldn't be eligible to sign for the Lakers until
mid January, just based on how their roster is set up.
That's according to Bobby Marks, who knows way about more
about this salary cap and how these things function than
I do. But that's what it is. So I guess
the question is, if you were available and wanted to
be a Laker, does he add value to them in
their current situation? Would you sign him? Keep in mind

(30:27):
to be a league minimum contract. It doesn't really cost you.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Anything, Lakers. Yes, no, don't mean to be harsh about
it. It No, that's the last thing you need. This thing
seems to be working. The chemistry is good. It's Luca's team.
They're far more up than they are down. There's no
reason to bring Chris Paul and they don't need them
because who's he going to play for? Bronnie? Whose minutes

(30:50):
is are gonna take? Because that's really the question.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
Keep in mind he wasn't playing a lot of minutes
for a team that's terrible anyway.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
So okay, right, so what's it gonna be show up?
Note Tracks shouldn't be a coach now. The Lakers don't
need him at all. Hey, it's it's you know that
deal that should have went through what twenty years ago?

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Yeah, exactly, it's finally gonna it's finally gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
It's finally gonna happen. Uh no, no, no, I'm I'm
with you.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Love some CP three, but there's too much good stuff
going on with the Lakers right now and their chemistry
with Luca and Austin Reeves and Lebron coming back.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I just it.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
You don't want to bring any kind of disruption into that.
And as we just talked about, he is a He
is a force and a vocal leader and again gonna
be a Hall of Famer. It's not like you're bringing
in somebody that's gonna sit down at the end of
the bench and just chill and not have any kind
of input on what he thinks should be done.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
So I don't I don't see them doing that.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
Well, if you're a Charger fan or you have a
chance to win Charger tickets here in the next couple
of minutes, you might actually have the treat of seeing
Justin Herbert on the field that's coming Monday night because
he practiced yesterday, says he feels good. The offensive coordinator
said that they're expecting him to play on Monday night.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
All of this just a few.

Speaker 6 (32:08):
Days, basically a week after having surgery on his fractured
left hand. I know you can say it was his
non throwing him, but Rodney, you know, catching, you know,
getting balls from under center, all of that stuff, it
still affects your hand on the way that you play.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
He's gonna find a way.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
To potentially power through this and fully plans to play
against the Eagles on Monday Night.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah, it depends.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
I mean, the hand is tricky because there's so many
bones and ligaments in the hand or the foot that
you wonder how that's gonna be. It is gonna be interesting.
The ball handling of him. It's not gonna affect him
throwing the football, and they're gonna be in shotgun I'm
sure a lot. But when he has to hand the
ball off going to his right with his left hand,

(32:49):
that's gonna be the issue to see if he's going
to be able to handle that. But I'm good. I'm
glad he's gonna play. They need him to play down
his stretch and get right as the as the playoffs approach.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
He's tough. And here's what I hope happens. You know,
it's different than when you play. Rodney advances in medical
treatments things like that. He has the surgery. They get
me a cast, but the cast goes right to his wrist.
Stay with me. They wrap it real tight, all right.
I hope he uses the cast as a stiff arm weapon.

(33:27):
So if anybody comes at him, he starts trying to
stiff arm in him and hits him with a cast.
That's what I'm rooting for. I'd like to see that happen.
What is wrong with you? Right? He becomes he becomes
a human weapon. W E n f L.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
He can't play with a hard cast bit. Hey, we
gotta do what we gotta do.

Speaker 6 (33:46):
Well, that's a good call, Rodney. You got Vince mc
man in your ear again, Fred from your XFL days.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Yeah, back in the day.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
That's what sliding up the headlines.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
All right now? Wage right, Okay, I got big. I
don't want to give the tickets away a tix six nine, eight, seven, two,
five seventy. It's the Chargers and the Eagles on Monday Night.
Rodney would call her number five.
