(00:00):
All right, let's go Fred RoganRodney Peach on five seventy LA Sports three
hours today Rodney ed Eric Dickerson jumpson the show. Uh huh at one
o'clock. Uh huh. By theway, how's the weather? WHOA?
Well, the rain is still comingdown, but it's more as light.
It's light. The last few daysit's kind of been that steady kind of

(00:23):
medium size rain or medium size flow. But today's a little bit lighter,
but it's still it's still coming. It's still coming, and it's been continuous.
It's as the one thing that Ihaven't seen in a while here,
is it. You know, sometimesit'll rain in the morning and it'll clear
up in the afternoon, or youknow, it'll rain hard for a little
bit and then you'll get a break. I don't remember in the last three

(00:45):
days if there ever been in beena break in the rain where it's completely
stopped. It's always been coming downfor the last three days. So it's
been crazy. A little lighter today, but still it's out there. We'll
be here. If you're driving around, be careful because obviously it's better but
not great, and you know, people get crazy when it rains. So

(01:06):
be careful out there. They do. I don't understand that. And then
we say this every year when whenthe rain comes. But what is it
about the LA drivers that panic whenit gets uh, when the rain comes
down? Well, they're not usedto driving and rain. That's what it
is. Everybody freaks out. Isit you think it's the people that have
been here for a while, thelocal folks, or is it the people

(01:27):
coming from out of town that don'tunderstand? Is it different when it rains?
I think both. I think eventhe local folks. You know,
when you're not accustomed to something andit happens, you get a little weird.
And I think that's what happened.And people really don't because we don't
get a lot of it. Peopledon't understand how to drive in it.
That's another problem. Yeah. Yeah, it's either people going way too slow

(01:49):
yep, or they're just being reckless, right, that's exactly what it is.
Yeah, you know you're going waytoo slow. That's going to cause
an accident. Yeah, or you'rea knucklehead in your eyes of control and
you go, I don't care howmuch rain is here, I'm gonna drive
seventy miles an hour. I'm fromMichigan. I'm from Ohio. We get
snow and blizzards and all that stuff. I know, I can just drive
like a normal This is nothing. And they're the ones that getting in the

(02:13):
accident. Yeah, well they don'trealize. On the freeways. Because of
the way the city is constructed, you have all this water build up,
there's nowhere for the water to go, so all of a sudden, you're
hydro planting all over the place. If you go too fast, and if
you're following somebody too closely and theystop, you stop, then you start
spinning around. Just be careful,Just be careful. It's almost over and

(02:34):
that's the most important thing here.Be safe, all right. Dodger's got
the word today. When they beginspring training, they will have another picture
on the roster, and that pictureis Clayton Kershaw. He will return for
his seventeenth year. You don't knowwhen he is returning. It's probably gonna
be midsummer. David Bassel beyond nextand we'll talk to him about it.
But Kershaw is back, and forsome that is really exciting news. And

(02:58):
I think for Dodger fans it's goodnews. But at this point, it's
as if you don't have him anyway, cause he's not going to be there.
So I can understand you getting excited, but first you got to see
how he's feeling, how effective he'llbe. So it's a nice little footnote
at this point. But I don'tthink it is as big as some people

(03:19):
might think. Oh, I thinkit's big, Fred I think it's big.
I think it's big for not maybethe reasons that people may think,
But I think it's it's big becausehe has done this now, you know,
before spring training actually gets really underway, before the season starts, he
has made sure that he is signed, sealed, and delivered with the Dodgers,

(03:43):
and so it's not a distraction tostart the season during the you know,
the first half of the season,is he coming back? What's Kershyall
gonna do? Because that would bethe narrative every other week is what's Kershyall
gonna do? And there'll be astory written, Oh it is Kershall coming
back? Is he into Texas? Is he going to retire? All those
things would come into play. Butnow the fact that he did, you

(04:04):
know, agree to terms with theDodgers, that gets all of that out
of the Way and the Dodgers, who have enough distractions going on with this
team that that is not going tobe one of them. It is just
going to be a matter of timewhen he comes back and get in the
lineup. I don't think anybody's anyunder any kind of illusion that he's going
to be a twenty game winner anymore. I think it's just a matter that

(04:27):
we want to see him finish hiscareer in the Dodger uniform, and that's
the best part of it. Inever thought he would go to Texas.
Of course, I don't live insidehis head. I don't know, but
I never thought he'd go to Texas. If he was going to pitch this
year, he'll pitch here. Andby the way, maybe he catches lightning
in a bottle, you know, maybe starting later in the year, he's
there for when they need him, because when he pitches, if he's healthy,

(04:49):
he's going to go for a whileand be good. M h.
And then the wheels come off thebus, all right, well, maybe
starting him later, not having himgo as many innings. The win,
you'll stay on the bus to goround. And it's as if in a
mid season you've made a trade, but you haven't given anybody up, right,
And he's still better than seventy fivepercent of the pictures out there,

(05:12):
right, you know, you knowwhen you really look and analyze him,
he was at some quality outings lastyear. And again, he's not going
to be the kersh Off twenty twelve. You know, he's not going to
be that guy anymore. He's he'sbut he can be steady. It's just
those moments that live in our headof you know, not getting out of
the first inning or having a blowup in the seventh inning of certain playoff

(05:36):
games. You know, those thoselive in our heads when it comes to
curseh Off. But listen, thoseare those are the things you're gonna have
to live with him. But it'sagain, he's still better than most of
the pitchers out there, and he'sa quality arm to have. And you
may be right that's starting the seasonhalfway through may be a change that is
needed for him to kind of pushon for these as he winds down his

(06:00):
career. Well, another arm putit like that, you can never have
too much starting pitching, No,And if when Buehler is back and Kershaw
is healthy and Yamamoto's on firing onall cylinders and Glasnow is pitching. Well,
if everybody is doing what they're supposedto and Paxton is healthy, that
is a pretty formidable rotation. BobbyMiller, so that that'll be a pretty

(06:21):
formidable rotation. I just want toask you, did you see this thing
Bill Shakan wrote about, show HeyOtani Bobblehead Night? Yeah? Yeah,
did you see that? Yeah?Okay, yeah, if you want to
go to show Hey Otani Bobblehead Nightat the stadium, And by the way,
why wouldn't you, h It's aThursday in May, and the game

(06:45):
will be against the Cincinnati Reds, not a weekend, not during the summer,
not against the team that draws.Well, okay, well there's a
reason for that, right. You'renot going to give a bobblehead of Otani
away against when they play the Yankeesbecause the Yankees are going to sell out
anyway. How much will it costyou? Well, Bill Shae can look
into it. I just think thisis really interesting. Minimum costs two tickets
and a parking pass on the Dodgerwebsite three hundred and five dollars and ten

(07:06):
cents. Three hundred and five dollarsten cents price for each out. By
the way, the seats are locatedon the reserve level adjacent to the right
field foul pole. One hundred andtwenty one bucks a ticket. Add it
all up at the text get inthere, park it'll cost it three hundred
bucks for an old tawny bobblehead. And you're talking about pardon me, this

(07:27):
is three hundred and twenty one perperson. No two two two, okay,
This is two tickets plus a parkingpass comes out to three oh five.
Okay. And you know, youknow the interesting thing about that,
So let's say you go, I'mnot going to do that. I'm not
spending three hundred bucks. Then yougo, you know, I want to
buy an O TWI bobblehead, butI'm not going to spend three hundred bucks
on the game. Uh you know, you go online to eBay, They'll

(07:50):
probably be four hundred bucks. Yeahyeah, right, yeah yeah. I
mean you get one of those andyou want to sell it, you're going
to sell it and make money.I'll bet you. I'll bet you the
babble head on on ebaylill cost asmuch as the game bowl How how how
how soon before the for the Dodgersthat go, hey, let's do another
old Tani bubblehead night. Oh,they've already got a second one schedule.

(08:13):
Let's four that they got. They'vegot one in August scheduled by popular demand.
No, yeah, yeah, they'vealready got those schedule. So,
which is going to our point thatwe've said before. When you hear that
number seven hundred million dollars, it'sit's the Dodgers have already made that backup.
And and he throwing the fact thathe gave him a team friendly contract

(08:35):
with deferred money. The Dodgers aresitting pretty with this seven hundred million dollar
contract. I mean off the field, what he's already generating is beyond what
I think most people can can canfathom, because it is and and then
and and not. I mean,he's we're hearing about this right now in
this country, but think about Asia. My son lives there in Japan,

(09:00):
and it is phenomenal the amount ofattention. He was already a god over
there, but the fact that he'splaying for the Dodgers just took it to
a whole different level now. Andhe said, it's just it's created.
It's Otani Otani all the time.Yeah, So if you're going to Dodger

(09:20):
games this year, be wise. And here's the other thing. If you
want to complain about ticket prices, you shouldn't do that because it is what
it is. It is exactly whatit is, and that's what it's going
to be. I'm not gonna spendthree hundred bucks to go to a baseball
game for two Otani bibbleheads, Sothen go by it on eBay for four
hundred sing better to go to thegame. Yeah, are you gonna see

(09:41):
though? I We'll ask Assay aboutthis as well, because of what you
just talked about how costly it's goingto be, not just for bibblehead,
but just as as the season goeson, the fan experience and people are
are gonna you're gonna start to heara lot of the chirping that they can't
even afford to go to games anymorebecause the prices are out of control,

(10:07):
and and so the Joe blow fanor the true blue fan can't really go
afford to go see you TONI playfor the Dodgers because the privates, the
prices of tickets and everything about it, parking passes are are way too much
for him I think you will hearthat. But if we're to be one
hundred percent honest, you could haveheard that last year too. I mean

(10:30):
the Dodger First, the Dodgers haveaffordable tickets as well. Not every seat
is going to be too grand sittingin the Dugout Club, So they do
have affordable tickets, but those aregonna Yeah, but those are gonna be
limited. And then you're gonna getthe secondary market guys, which we've already
seen a spike in. Those areabsolutely crazy already. Uh, if you
want to sit, like you said, in those premium seats, whether it

(10:52):
be Dougout Club or the box seatson the first base or third bay side,
they've they've already just gone through theroof of what they were a year
ago. So it's going to bedifficult to get those, even for you
know, the folks that want tohate when I go, I like to
sit in the Douy Dog Club, and I'm just gonna go. Now,
that's going to be double what younormally paid. Yeah, I'm done with

(11:13):
that. Yeah, those are donecrazy. You call how in a package
they went a nice little h youknow, twenty five game package with the
Dodgers. Oh no, you crazy? Those are those are? Those have
been gone because they can sell thosefor whatever. I read a story about
the English Premier League and they talkto fans and they are in that league,

(11:35):
the English Premier League soccer. Theyactually figure how much of their yearly
income will be committed to tickets tosee their their team play. In other
words, if they make seventy thousanddollars a year, they will commit twenty
or however much whatever percentage of itto buy their season tickets. And they

(11:58):
talked about how you know, insome markets, in some cities there they're
not as expensive, and in bigcities are really expensive. I mean you
have people committing thirty five percent oftheir yearly income Rodney for Premier League seats
to have their seats. Yeah.Yeah, And then you're you're so,
I'm sure they're all panicked and theydon't ever want to give them up because

(12:22):
they may not get them again, right, you know, so either I
don't know how it works over there, but maybe they have to go back
into the lottery or whatever. Butyou could see that's the last thing on
the list. Okay, we gotto cut back here, We got to
cut back there. Yeah, yeah, I can't go out to dinner as
much this year, folks, youknow, closed shopping. No, just
get the hand me downs, right, because we got to keep our our

(12:43):
Premier league seats. We got tokeep the you know, we got to
keep Nottingham in our in our books. We gotta keep Chelsea, we got
to keep man you in our youknow, in our in our line item
as because that is not going away. And maybe you know with the the
way they are, because you talkabout just getting to see Otani, do
you think when Yamamoto pitches, peopleare gonna want to be there? Right,

(13:09):
So what are those tickets gonna beworth? And it really could fund
It could come down to who's pitchingon a certain day. You know,
if if glass Now starts strong andit's hot, and we think he will
be, when you want to gosee him. Pitch got a cost.
Yamamoto, it's got a cost, and Itchean might not cost as much.

(13:30):
Can you imagine when Otani does goback to pitching and hitting of those days,
I'll forget it, baby, Yeah, that's gonna be really outrageous.
All right, So David Vasse iscoming up next. We'll get into the
Kershaw signing. Maybe they'll talk someticket prices as well. And don't forget

(13:52):
ed Eric Dickerson on the show atone o'clock this Sunday afternoon. Catch the
action of the big Game between KansasCity and San Francisco, the kick off
at three thirty and you're radio homeof the nfl A and five to seventy
LA Sports, presented in part byRotolo Chevrolet. See what the fun is
all about at Rotolo Chevrolet. Ohyes, we are rolling on a Tuesday,

(14:13):
Rodney, Pete, Fred Rogan anda rainy Tuesday in LA and wherever
you are around the world, becausewe do have listeners listening to us on
the app around the world. Readygo Ben to the world. Be safe
about that. You know why they'relistening to Rodney. I heard this the
other day. I was walking downthe hall here. Talk to they said

(14:35):
what they say? What they say, listen to you on the app?
And I said, yeah, you'rekilling it. You guys are killing it.
Is guys are killing it. That'sright. There a doubt. No,
David Vassell, jump on here ina couple of minutes. Let's start
this and then we'll come back toit. Lakers won in Charlotte last night.

(14:56):
Well, congratulations one very Hey stopthat stop that. You always say.
You can't say you got to beatthe teams you're supposed to beat,
and when they beat the teams they'resupposed to beat. I'm they nearly lost
a twenty one point lead, butdid they No, Okay, so the
glass can be half full for that. They finished a Grammy road trip four

(15:18):
and two. That's good news.Head him back and think about the wins.
It's a big win against Boston withouta D and Lebron that was impressive.
Big win versus the Knicks and thewinning streak. Yes, so they
had some quality wins on this roadtrip. Jared Vanderbilt, we found out
he'll be re evaluated in a month. He's got a foot spring, so

(15:43):
that's not good. Some reports sayhe could be done for the year,
but you know that's uh, that'spremature to get into. Defensively, I
mean, you can't replace him, right, and defense is what they need.
Dan Wyki wrote Thursday the trade deadline. They're looking for defense. Somebody
that can guard somebody. Or PhilJackson would say, put a body on
him. Somebody, then put abody on him. Yeah, they're out

(16:07):
looking for that right now, tryingto see if they can get a little
defensive help, which is, uh, you know, kind of paramount with
this club. Can they What doyou think, Fred, do you they
go out and make a trade.And I always said this, I don't
like trades for the sake of trades. It doesn't make sense if it's not
gonna somehow enhance you or move thatneedle. I'm not a guy that likes

(16:30):
it just because it's a trade deadlineand it's trade period. We got to
make a trade, just we justgot to make a trade. And some
teams act like that, and Ijust I don't get that and don't understand
it. Don't like it. Allright, we'll talk more about it.
Let's bring on David mas Say,Dave, good afternoon to you. Oh
are you talking about trading Lebron?Like Bill PLASKI wants? How about that

(16:52):
day that say what is wrong withPlatsky? Come on, come on,
he not the one that keep thegarbage on him over his head. Yeah,
you can't trade Lebron. But itfeels like this era of Laker basketball
is stuck in neutral with the wayit's constructed. Yeah, they can't figure
out a way. And I reallythought this year, Dave, they would

(17:15):
with a roster to get over thathump, but it seems like they're still
going uphill. Fred. The onlyway in the NBA these days, with
the way the salary cap is structured, to win and build a good team
is not by bringing in two highpriced free agents. You have to draft
your two superstars, and the Lakershave not been able to do that,

(17:36):
and they keep trading away picks. So it's gonna be very difficult to find
a supporting cast to support Lebron andAnthony Davis the way things are right now.
Yeah, so last year was likea false sense of hope. I
guess them making it all the wayto the Western Conference finals with that team,
all those guys have not played tothat level. That's why they fall

(18:00):
so great. No salary cap.Yeah, but then you've got teams complaining
about big market teams ruining the competitivebalance, I e. The Dodgers.
All right, Kershaw's back announcement today, He's coming back. I think it's
great day for Clayton Kershaw. Inever thought he would pitch anywhere, but
La, well, what does itmean for the roster he's not going to

(18:21):
be back till summer. Well,Fred, there was a chance that he
wasn't going to pitch in La ifthe Rangers would have pursued him as aggressively
as they had the past couple ofyears, but their circumstances changed. And
I don't know what Clayton's thinking,but I'm sure there were a lot of
people in Texas a little surprised theydidn't try to court him as much as

(18:47):
they did in the past. Butthe circumstances dictated that a their ninety five
year old owner got his World Serieschampionship after spending half a billion dollars up
the middle. And then they havethree pitchers currently on their roster getting paid
pretty well that are not going topitch until the second half of the season.

(19:10):
How can you add a fourth inClayton Kershaw and think you're going to
do well and try to repeat aschampions. So the circumstances dictated the Rangers
not being able to court Kershaw theway they did a year ago. And
honestly, his only road back toMajor League Baseball was with the Dodgers.

(19:32):
And that's good for us because wewant to see him in that Dodger uniform
until the day he hangs up themcleaps, David Vasse, Dave, as
you this, you know, springtraining starts to get heated up and the
season's on its way. Do yousee any pitfalls or anything that we should

(19:55):
be aware of as the Dodgers enteredthis season. I mean, everything seems
rosy right now, and everybody theycan't wait, and every talking about ticket
prices all through the roof, we'retalking about bobbleheads with old Tani and what
the lineup is going to look like. Is there anything you know, because
it's all rosie that we're like, okay, but this might be an issue
as we start the season or getgoing with the season. Yeah, as

(20:21):
it stands right now, Rodney,I don't see many holes. I really
was examining this yesterday actually, andthe questions that were popping up at this
time last year are not popping upas much. And their bullpen is stack.
My only question in that department ishow do you define the roles?
And the roles obviously are innings andgroupings of hitters. They're not just an

(20:45):
inning by itself, but ken EvanPhillips handle being the full time closer that's
a question for me. And thenas far as defense goes, how is
the left of the Dodger infield goingto defend without Miguel Rojas being there every
day? It looks like the Dodgersare going into the season as they were

(21:11):
a year ago at this time, giving the position to Gavin Lux when he's
healthy. So now you have twoguys in Max Munsey and Gavin Lux who
may not be or have more questionmarks defensively than they do offensively. So
for me, if you're trying topoke holes in this roster, those would
be the questions I have. Ilike, they signed Ryan Brazier two years.

(21:34):
You know, you talked the otherday maybe he was asking too much
money. So did he bring downwhat he was asking or did they just
have to figure out how they weregoing to make a roster spot for him.
No, it was a way toget creative with the contract where he
can reach the salary goals that hehad going into the off season. It

(21:57):
was reported that there are bonuses andclauses attached to his contract where he could
possibly reach thirteen million dollars for thesetwo years, So the Dodgers got creative
with it. He obviously liked it, so he accepted. And yeah,
he pitched thirty eight innings last yearfor the Dodgers and only gave up three

(22:19):
runs. Thirty nine games every yearis unique to itself. But he found
something with the Dodgers, and obviouslyhe was able to perform with the Dodgers
the way he wasn't able to performwith the Red Sox. So, Dave,
does that mean it closes the dooron Kelly Jansen. Well, I

(22:42):
wouldn't say it closes the door onit. There's still a heartbeat to the
possibility that Kenley Jansen might find hisway to the Dodgers via trade. But
if Kenley doesn't get traded by Iwould say the end of the weekend,
he's not going to be traded becausethe Red Sox pitchers and catchers report on

(23:03):
February twelve, So I don't seehim being traded after that until if the
Red Sox, like many expect, are out of it at the trade deadline
and they sell off Kenley at thatpoint in time. So there's a heartbeat,
but I would say it's not whereit was maybe a couple of weeks

(23:26):
ago. Dave. I'm still amazedthat the free agent market has been what
it is. Snell, Bellinger stillsitting there, just not a lot of
activity. And you know, Iknow Scott Bores has both Snell and Bellinger
and he's going to wait until hegets what he wants. But could this
be a possibility of no matter whatyou want, we're just not paying that

(23:48):
this go round. Well, Ibelieve, and I've gotten some indication that
the boris five free agents, BlakeSnell, Cody Bellinger, JD Martinez,
Matt Chapman, and Jordan Montgomery arecontent and on board with not waiting to

(24:10):
sign even into spring training until theyget what they believe is their market value.
And my understanding is there's about fiveor six teams interested in Cody Bellinger,
and two of those are the SanFrancisco Giants and the Angels. So
we'll see who's able to step upand meet the value. But I don't

(24:32):
believe a short three or four yearcontract is going to work in that department.
And look, Blake Smells, thetwo time Cyaning Award winner, and
he certainly believes, and rightfully so, that he should be making more annually
than a guy like Carlos Rodon whosigned with the Yankees last year and Dave
Corbyn Burns ends up in Baltimore andwe thought, and you know, you

(24:56):
would speculated that he would sit thereto the trade deadline, that they wouldn't
move him. How in were theDodgers at the end, Well, the
Dodgers are not going to be tooforthcoming with that information. Thread they had
interest in Corman Burns going back tolast year. Obviously whatever they offered was

(25:18):
not to what the what the Brewerswanted, or maybe the Brewers just didn't
want to trade him to the Dodgers. So yeah, industry wide, it
took everybody a little off guard thatthe Brewers traded Burns at all before the
season started, because there had beenan industry expectation coming out of the winter

(25:41):
meetings that the Brewers were content holdingon to Burns and Williadamas. So the
next question is are the Brewers willingto trade shortstop Willi Adamas? Hey,
hey, Dave going to back toYamamoto. We obviously know he's got all
the physical tools and we you know, we've seen the videos in the games

(26:02):
that he's played in Japan, Butwhat have you heard or any is there
any concern as he makes the transitionto playing over here. That might might
be an issue or could be anissue just in the transition from Japanese baseball
to Major League baseball in the States. Yeah, I don't believe there's any

(26:23):
concerns now, Rodney. I mean, code I Senga is the latest in
a long line of Japanese pitchers tosucceed in Major League Baseball. So it's
not like he's breaking ground. Guyshave been able to adapt to the baseball
because the baseball is different in Japanthan what it is here. It'll be

(26:44):
interesting to see. I think forme that's the biggest adaptation that Yamamoto has
to make, more than pitching everyfifth or sixth day, because in Japan
the baseball is a little bit smaller, and also they're able. They have
come up with a way to havesome grip on their baseball for pitchers to

(27:06):
spin the ball. So it'll beinteresting to see how Yamamoto does in that
respect, if he's able to spinhis pitches the way he did in Japan.
Dave Bobby Witch has signed a longterm deal with the Kansas City for
two hundred and eighty eight million dollars. Does that dispel the myth that smaller
markets cannot spend money. I thinkso, Fred. There's a lot of

(27:30):
money in baseball. There's revenue sharingwith bigger market teams like the Dodgers and
Yankees going directly to the Royals andPirates and teams like that. But what
are these owners doing with that? Are they just putting it in their pockets
because it appears that they're not reinvestingin their teams. It seems like the

(27:52):
Royals have started to do that becausethey're trying to get a new stadium.
So they've got to generate interest andmake the fans believe that they're trying to
win going into a new ballpark. So that's the underlying motivation there. And
Bobbywood Junior is one of the mostpopular players they've had there in quite some
time. So that's the reason whythey were able to dig deep in their

(28:18):
pockets for Bobbywood Junior. So basically, right place, right time for Bobby
Wood Junior. They're building a newstadium, fans love him. Okay,
we'll pay this guy, and noweverybody will support our new stadium, and
then everybody will get to come seehim play right place, right time,
right Because if Bobby Wood Junior leaves, he's a free age and I believe

(28:38):
in two or three years if heleaves via free agency, the Royals are
back to rebuilding and there's not there'snot a lot of faith that this new
stadium was worth it. Yeah,Dave, going back to what we started
with talking about the fans and Bobbleheadand the fan experience. Just looking at

(29:03):
it and the way it's going andthe price tags keep going up in terms
of tickets and bubblehead and drinks andall that stuff. Do you think there's
going to be a real concern withthe with the Joe Blow fans or the
Joe Blue fans being able to seethe Dodgers on a regular basis, as
as the Otani effect and the superstardomthat the Dodgers have. The price tags

(29:26):
are going to continuously go up,and that means that the long long Dodger
fan may not be able to afforda ticket like he did in the past.
Yeah. Well, I saw thatreport that you're referring to Rodney on
Otani's first Bobblehead night. I sawthat, and look, there's a lot
of demand, not just for inLos Angeles anymore, Now it's global demand

(29:51):
for the Dodgers and coming to agame. And there already was demand to
come to Dodger Stadium. But whenyou when you take into account now fans
from Japan that come to Los Angeles, they're going to make it. They're
going to put it on their itinerary, their vacation plans to find a way
to come to a Dodger game, which creates more demand. So I think

(30:17):
all of that remains to be seen. I wouldn't get worked up your guy.
By the way, Ronnie Fossio isa partial season ticket holder with the
Dodgers, and I asked him whetheror not his tickets went up and he
said they did, but not significantly, and he could still digest it on
the wages that you and Rodney payhim. So well, Ronnie Fossio is

(30:38):
a great guy that can be yourguinea pig. Every time he goes to
a game. He could report back, all right, Well, they thank
you for your report today. Iappreciate it. You didn't even know that
that Ronnie's a season ticket holder, did you? Free? No, that's
why we're getting ready you and nowwe're going to talk to ron enough.
Wow, Wow, feel free toyou know, mingle with the staff,

(31:02):
right, I know they're beneath you, but come on, uh okay,
I'll try to start doing that. You know the rule, Dave. You
know we've had the rule since I'vebeen there. Just don't look me directly.
We appreciate you allowing us to lookyou in the eye. Now,
that was a new ruling. You'revery happy about that, right. It
took a couple of years, butwe're to that point. So let me
let me just keep going on this, all right, yes, sir,

(31:23):
Fred? All right, all right, goodbye, Dave. All right,
talk to you guys. Latest. All right, Ronnie, So you are
a partial season ticket holder? NI am, indeed, Fred. I've
got to the quarter season plan.Okay. So I've had it for like
a like, jeez, a numberof years now, twenty five games,
uh, twenty five twenty two games? Actually okay? Yeah, so you

(31:45):
said your tickets did go up butnot significantly. Correct. Well there you
go. Yeah, yeah, butthis is you know, you're one of
this. So you're for a OTani being here? What that gonna look
like? I mean, and let'sbe honest too, I mean, it's
not like my seats are in theloge or anything like that. Clubs.

(32:07):
No, no, not at all. No, Roddie, I'm not sitting
next to you. I mean I'dlike to sit next to you, but
come on, help me out there, rud. Oh my god, those
seats. What are you trying tosay, Ronnie? You know Rodney from
from my vantage point when you're atthe game. I know you're there.
I can see you, honest togoodness, around Rodney. I'm waving hi,

(32:30):
Rodney. Now, IM going totell you there's a period of time
where, uh we would sit inthe dug out club. I mean we
we'd spend the money, ain't sitthere, and uh yeah it was at
a little pricey sure, but youknow we could swing it, and we
did it and we enjoyed it.But those tickets now, oh my god,
there is no way I can affordthat. I could barely do it

(32:53):
in the past. I really can'tafford it now those are pricey seats.
Yeah, I just you know, throw the kids up top and you and
beggars can't be too. You wantto go to the game or no,
all right, Mom and dad aregonna be comfortable. We go, we
go get our get our four coursemeal before the game. That's the thing.

(33:16):
That's the thing people don't know, you know. And we are lucky
because we have been in the DugoutClub. And if you've been there,
you know, but that place downstairs, you know, you go downstairs into
the restaurant there. Yeah, thatis a different world. It really is.
And I'll tell you this. Ialways maintained Rodney that the Dodgers Stadium
Dugout Club, by far was thebest experience in baseball. And I I

(33:40):
said that for years. Now there'sa caveat. There's one caveat. Now,
what's that. I went to aYankee game. It's different. Oh
god, it is different at thenew Yankee Stadium. It is. It
is decadent. It is unlike anyIt's like you went to Matstros, the

(34:05):
Palm, your favorite sushi spot, catch a catch all of it. It's
like all in one place in YankeeStadium. They have the food stations there
and if you want seafood at YankeeStadium, and by the way, it's
all inclusive. You pay for yourdrinks, but the food comes with the
ticket. When you go up tothe seafood area where there's crab and lobster

(34:29):
and shrimp. The person puts aglove on their hand. I'll have some
lobster. They put a glove ontheir hand, and just give you as
much as you want. You don'thave some shrimp. What do he needs?
Four pounds? I got that righthere. Three. Yeah. It's
unlike anything but Dodger Stadium. Ifyou ever get a chance, if somebody
has tickets and says, hey,I can't go, and they offer them

(34:51):
to you. And oftentimes in thedygout club you see that. You see
people down there that you know, how did you get here? So people
are giving their tickets away. Experiencethat because it is really a very special
experience. And when I was aChannel four I was going to do a
story and I never did it.And I never did it because I just
got too tired and I didn't wantto do anything anymore. But I was

(35:15):
going to do a thing called thebest Seat in the House and go to
every franchise in the market, sitin their best seat, and then what
comes along with it, so thatthe crypt would be court sided, right
for the king should be on theglass wherever, you know, whatever,

(35:36):
that top priced seat was the bestseat in the house. I was going
to sit in all of them andthen talk about everything you got along with
it. I damn, I wishi'd done that now. Anyway, I
guessed before I started, and Iwould, and I think it would pull

(35:57):
true now that Dodgers did was thebest seat in the house. Now the
Kings have changed. And you knowyou've heard a lot about the Chairman's room
at Staples and now the crypt.Yeah, well you know we have been
in the Chairman's room, Rodney. You've been there, and prior to what
they have done to it now,it was a little bar that had popcorn

(36:21):
and candy with a bunch of peoplecrammed in where you could buy drinks.
And I always thought, you know, if I go to a Laker game
or a Clipper game and I hadaccess to the Chairman's room, that bought
me nothing. I got popcorn, candy, people like sardines, and I
could pay for drinks. Now they'vechanged it. Have you been to the
new Chairman's I have not. Ihave not been to the new cheam.

(36:45):
Okay, so the Kings. It'san all inclusive meal with wagoo beef and
stuff, kind of like Dodger Stadium. I've not been there. Yet I've
not experienced that, but I didbelieve for a period of time and maybe
still is the case that the bestscene in the house was Dodger Stadium,

(37:06):
even before we did the show here. Yeah, okay, I could see
that. I see that even becausethen then what would be second? Would
it be the Kings or would itbe the Lakers? And you know,
kind of getting the same similar experiencesas you would get with the Kings.
All right, So that I thinkthat breaks down to what sport do you
like more? Ah, gotcha.I'll say this because I've sat on the

(37:30):
glass for hockey. We had ticketson the glass. Nothing like sitting on
that glass hockey. Yeah, Butthe problem is, and it's great,
by the way, it's great, and if you can do it, they're
unaffordable now. But if you cando it, you should because you are
right in the action. But theproblem is you're right in the action in
the vicinity in which you sit.So if you're down on one end on

(37:52):
the glass and the puckets at theother under the ice, it's it can
be difficult to see. But whenit's near you, I mean, you're
like playing, You're in it.You're in the mix in the act,
you feel it right, feel it, whereas in the NBA, if you're
on the court, because there isno glass or anything to obstruct your view.

(38:14):
Sure it's better when it's directly infront of you, but I think
your view is better court sided anNBA game than on the glass in an
NHL game because as you look downthe ice, you know you've got the
glass there. Yeah, and youstill get a good view, don't get
me wrong, but it's not great. But when it's in front of you

(38:36):
you're in the game, Yeah, yeah, it's it's pretty incredible. Like
you know those and I'm I don'tprobably been to a dozen hockey games in
my life, but sitting on thatglass at a hockey game, especially a
good one with an intense one whereit's you know, a potential rival game,

(39:00):
the atmosphere and like I said, when you feel it, you feel
it at a hockey game, everythingabout it. It is so much different.
And those that they'd say, oh, I don't like hockey, I
don't want to go to hockey.I can't even sit there and watch hockey
on TV. Well neither can I. I can't really watch hockey on TV.
It is completely different going to seeit live than watching any kind of

(39:23):
hockey on TV. Our seats foryears, I'll just do this real quick,
keV, don't go to the break. Our seats for years were right
next to the visitor's penalty box onthe glass, right next. I mean,
so if the guy went into thepenalty box and turned his head,
you saw us. We were sittingright there. I love. Those are
my favorite seats. And the kidswould sit in the row behind us.

(39:45):
And one time guy from Dallas comesdown, loses his mind, starts screaming
horrible language. He's in the box. Josh is like eight years old.
He walks up to the top ofthe aisle, brings down the usher and
says, excuse me, he's usingbad language, went and got the usher,

(40:05):
brought him down. They'll see It'snational penalty box will by far the
best. This Sunday afternoon, catchthe action of the Big Game between Kansas
City and San Francisco. The kickoffsat three point thirty on your radio,

Bay Area native's forthcoming EP that willarrive later this year. Although the twenty
three year old has been teasing newmusic for over a year, this will
be his first project since his twentytwenty one album entitled El Dorado. He

(40:52):
says the theme of the song isletting go of his past mistakes and looking
forward to the future. Well, clearing is headspace and focus on what really
matters again, Today's afternoon delight isClarity by twenty four K gold All right,
and now from the court to thecourt room with Jacob m Ronnie.

(41:15):
All Right, our weekly chat withour good friend Jacob m Ronnie and Jacob,
how are you today? Hey,Brad, Hey Rodney, how are
you guys? Fantastic? Jacob? How are you dealing with all this rain
and eight million calls coming in everysingle hour? You know what, just
hoping that all of our California residentsstay safe. You know. I tell

(41:37):
a lot of my you know, elderly family members yesterday not to come,
not to even come out of thehouse. Because you know, it's it's
dangerous out there, and it's notjust because it's raining. Unfortunately, you
know, our roads here in southernCalifornia are not really kicked up to the
best you know, conditions, andyou never know, you know what you're

(41:58):
going to drive into. So youknow, I think it's safest. Yesterday
was pretty bad. You know,I asked a lot of my relatives,
you don't need to come out ofthe house. Don't come out of the
house. But for the rest ofus, they actually have to go to
work. You know, we justgot to be safe out there. This
this this reign has been great, you know in terms of you know,
drought issues, but definitely not goodin terms of traffic and you know,

(42:20):
moving around all right. As apartner of the Lakers, if I put
you on the spot right now andsaid, after the trade deadline, Would'angelo
Russell still be here, you wouldsay I would like him to be here
because he's just been playing so greatand I'm hoping that we're not just going
to make a trade to make atrade, but you know, his name

(42:43):
has been the one that's been swirlingaround, so you know, if they
are going to make a trade,Unfortunately, it may seem like his name
is going to be the one that'sgoing to be called. Yeah, it'll
be real interesting. Someone that wejust talked to describe the Lakers as team
in neutral and it feels like thata little bit, Jacob, because you

(43:05):
know they're they'll go through a stretchwhere they they lose four straight to teams
that they should beat, and thenthey'll go to Boston without a D and
Lebron and beat the Celtics in theirbuilding, and then come back and beat
the Knicks and in their their winningstreak. It's hard to look at this
team and say, Okay, whoare the Lakers and then look up ahead

(43:25):
and go how are they going tosurvive in the playoffs and what is that
going to look like? How doyou feel about where this team is right
now, Jacob, because I don'tthink that, you know, trade or
no trade, that it's going tomove the needle that much one way or
another. I think, you know, ultimately we see that when the team

(43:45):
gets up for the competition, evenwithout a D and Lebron, you know,
other people stepped up and this iswhat you know, we thought about
this team in the beginning of theseason, I think staying focused and bringing
it every single night is something thatwe've been lacking. And you know,

(44:08):
ultimately, I think consistency is whatwe're all unhappy and complaining about. If
this team stays consistent, if everybodydoes what they do. Of course,
you know, every team has theirinjuries, but you know, we've had
our own share. I don't thinkthere's anybody in the trade market that is

(44:29):
going to move the dial, youknow, like like they did for us
last year. So and I know, you know, I would presume that
these trade talks have probably slowed downa little bit because DeAngelo has just been
playing out of his mind when heplays well, my god. But you
know, I think we're all goingto wait and see and whether this is

(44:51):
the same team that we're going tohave post trade deadline. I don't think
I'm going to be disappointed. Ithink if it does, they stay this
way, I think you're going topick up, you know, some people
from the buyout market. But Ithink ultimately, at the end of the
day, we have the players tocompete. How far we go is really

(45:13):
going to depend on how consistent weare and whether we get hot at the
right time. You know, therein lies the problem because when the season,
when the team was put together atthe beginning of the season, our
thoughts were, man, you gotto love this roster. You got to
love what they've got, what theyput together, and they should be able
to withstand injury or you know,if one guy goes into a slump,

(45:35):
but you nailed it. The inconsistencyhas been the problem. Yeah, they've
had injuries, but it's been theinconsistency. And I don't know, maybe
you know, when the rumors ofyou might be the one gone, somebody
just fires it up and gets backto work. But I think that's been
the problem here, Jacob, justinconsistency. I think you hit it right
on the head. And I thinkthat sense of urgency and you know that

(45:59):
you know, we've seen over theyears there's you know, players react in
two ways when their names come upin you know, in trade uh and
trade talks. Either they shut downor they step it up. And obviously
dil has stepped it up. Anduh. You know, again, as
I said, I I wouldn't beupset if we're talking after the trade deadline

(46:21):
on Thursday and they still have thissame team. I'm more concerned about this
team doing what they're capable of doing. And I think all of us as
Laker vans, are hoping that that'swhat we're going to see. That's the
product that we want to see onthe court. Jacob, Bob, before
you go a question, Our listenerslove when you answer these. All Right,

(46:42):
the weather is bad, rain relatedaccidents and is it important if you
get into an accident, especially inbad weather, to call an attorney immediately?
I mean absolutely. I think ifyou have access to an attorney,
like the listeners on, you know, your great show of access to me
and my team, You're not payinga penny to call us for a consultation

(47:02):
and talk to us and pick ourbrains. So I think that's a no
brainer. You know, if Ihave a medical issue and I have access
to a doctor who doesn't charge mea penny, the moment I see anything
medical, I'm gonna pick up thephone and call him. But when we
talk about the rain, I think, you know, preventative even trying not
to get into the accidents is important. And I think as we are all

(47:22):
driving around, I always like togive these tips that I follow personally myself.
It's try to stay away from thelanes closest to the sidewalk and closest
to the middle divider. Those arethe ones that usually have a lot of
puddle. You know, the waterbacks up on it. And because of
the fact I mean I went, you know, I went my way to

(47:44):
work today, there was a carnext to me and they hit this puddle.
And not only was it the puddle, but I think there had been
construction done there before, but becauseof all the water, they didn't see
it. And this guy completely blowout his tire and you could see because
I looked behind me and suddenly hejust stopped. So I think you have

(48:05):
to be really careful, try tostay in the middle lanes. And usually,
you know, we tell people tryto keep a distance one or two
car lengths. Please do not beshy about keeping three to four car links
between you and the car behind you, because just today I've gotten three different
phone calls from people who have beenformer clients that have said that their brakes

(48:27):
didn't work and they try to hitthe brakes and it just didn't you know,
it didn't stop, and they endedup hitting the car in front of
them. And that is the exactexample. If you have enough of a
car link between you and the carin front of you. You're going to
keep yourself from being at fault foran accident and let him know being involved
in an accident. And you know, those are just the kind of things

(48:49):
that we got to keep them.Put your phones down, that's the other
thing, you know, put yourphones down. There's enough going on around
us in the rain that we can'treally multitask and you know, be on
our phones and trying to make surethat you're not gonna, you know,
run somebody over or you know, get into a puddle where you're gonna hydro
plane. So I hope that youknow, this just reminds everybody how important

(49:10):
it is to pay attention while we'redriving, especially in the rain, because
California residents when the rain comes, they forget, I mean, they forget
to even you know, even evendrive, let alone drive safe. So
let's let's just try to be safefor ourselves and the people that are around
us on the streets. All right, great advice, Jacob, thanks for

(49:30):
coming on today. We appreciate it. Thanks guys, take care of yourself
and the Lakers. All right, the mand's in position. We're ready to
go. At one Eric Dickerson joinsthe show next
