Speaker 1 (00:00):
No, why do we go, Fred Rogan or Rodney peak?
At ain't five to seventy la sports, big show, A
lot to get to. Interesting weekend, Rodney. But off the top,
I do want to mention that the Kings open tonight
at home against Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
No Kings go, Kings, go go Gongs go.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Connor McDavid was quoted and the Edmonton paper is saying
they have work to do. They're not even worried about
the Kings. You might remember they had to the Stanley
Cup finals last year and got beat.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I did wait, wait, he said they got work to do.
They're not worried about the Kings. He said that.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
He just said we need to get back to the finals.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Are you not changing his words? Fred, pardon me? Are
you changing his words? Absolutely? Yes?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Okay, good, Okay. He basically said, we just have work
to do. We got to get back to the finals.
We know what that feeling was like. Yeah, the Kings
are a good team, but we got to get back
to the finals. Okay, okay. He might be the best
player in hockey. Hopefully that never wins a ring. He'll
be a king without a ring. He doesn't deserve a ring.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
He did say he may be, he said, hopefully he
will be. Yeah, the guy that could be the best
player in hockey for a period of time that doesn't
get a ring.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
That's what Anne Marie said. You hope, you hope, I
hope he does. I hope he doesn't. I hope he
doesn't because he's dirty. Now we talk about that anyway.
The Kings are trying to get to the second round
for the first time ever, Like in one hundred years.
Every year Edmonton knocks him out. But this year the
game is at home, They've got home ice advantage in
(01:40):
the best of seven, and the Kings are favored tonight.
All of that is shocking news to hockey pundits, but
it is true. They have home ice and they are
favored to win Game one tonight. The place will be rocking.
Are you shocked by that, Fred?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Give it? I mean, obviously you're not shocked this year
because the Kings have been the better team all year long. Yes,
But when you suggest that, oh, the Kings, and you
say it with the kind of inflection that you did,
the Kings have home ice against Edmonton, does that put
(02:18):
a little bit of a pause in your in your thinking,
in your body. That the Kings are favored against Edmonton,
and you would rather be the underdog against Edmonton or
is it just like this is a far gone conclusion.
The Kings are gonna win the series.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Oh, the Kings are gonna win the series because they
have to win the series. I don't want them to
be the underdogs. They have been the best team in
the NHL at home this year. They have home ice advantage.
They should not lose the series at home during these playoffs,
and that may be the difference. That could be the difference.
Everybody's back for Edmonton tonight. Everybody, all of the guys
that were heard are back. So now they've got their
(02:55):
their full team, not the team that tried to pound
the Kings the other night when everybody was hurt. They
put a bunch of thugs out there and try to
beat guys up. Yeah, Darnell Nurse suspended one game. He'll
be back tonight. That guy's got a target on his
back to The Kings need to inflict paying tonight. The
(03:18):
Kings need to absolutely enforce their will tonight. And you go, well, Edmonton,
what is it about Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
You don't like? Yeah, Gret tell us me.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Basically everything but I do not want to. You know,
I think it's only fair that I talk about some
of the highlights of Edmonton. Yes, right, I mean it's
destination for me, but no, maybe for somebody. Maybe for somebody.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I don't know anybody on the planet that Edmonton is
a destination for a vacation.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Okay, Well, if you went, you'd see the world renowned
West Edmonton Mall.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yes, yes, exciting, exciting and new.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
If I want to go on vacation, the number one
tourist attraction wherever I go is going to be the
mall that's I'm going Hawaiian?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Are you kidding me? You're spoiled, You're You're You're a
damn spoiled as Angelino southern California by way of Detroit,
by way of Phoenix. Cat that you've lived in southern
California where the weather is always great, and now you're
snobbing and sticking your nose up at Edmonton and the
(04:34):
climate in Edmonton in Canada, and you're going to get
the backlash. Fred, You're going to get the backlash like
my man Dwight Stone's gotten the nineteen seventy six Olympics
when he said he did not like French Canadians.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Oh, I like French Canadians. I just don't like Edmonton.
I like French Canadians, you know what. And that was
unfair if we're going.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Out which you hate the town, you hate the town,
you hate the city of Edmonton.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I don't like it because of what their team represents.
And now I think that they're just like their team
and I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
But is it what the team represents or is it
with one guy that you have a problem with, And
that's Conor McDavid, who obviously is the star of the
Edmonton Oilers, but a star of Hockey League of NATEL
and you don't like him, so you don't like Edmonton
(05:31):
in its entirety.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
No, I don't like any of the Oilers. That's my problem.
I don't like any of them. And I'm glad that
guy that looked twelve years old Woodcock is not the
coach anymore. He looked twelve years old, and that's a
problem because because he's too young to coach, those are
the kind of decisions they make up there.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
They live in a vacuum.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
And if you don't want to go see the West
Edmonton mall as we plan a vacation to Edmonton, we
can see historic Fort Edmonton Ark. We could do that,
or the distinctive muttered Conservatory that will conclude our travel
guide to edmund Muttered Conservatory, the muttered Conservatory, muttered Conservatory. Okay,
(06:18):
that consists of.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
A plaque to mister muttered, I don't know what it consists.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
So Edmonton also known for its vibrant arts scene, diverse festivals,
and passionate fan base of the Edmonton Oilers.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
There you go, that's it. They're all the same. Don't
we all want a passionate fan base, though, fred do
I tell you all. Don't we all want a passionate
fan base in any city?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yes, but here's the problem, because these people have nothing
else to do. It's very apparent they have nothing else
to do. They think they're on the team. If you're
sitting next to one of their fans tonight, it will
be one of the most annoying, obnoxious evenings of watching
hockey you have ever had. When the Maple League fans
(07:09):
come to town, they're very nice. When the Canadians fans
come to town, they're great.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
They're great.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Even the Canucks fans are terrific.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I don't know. They are Canucks. Canuck fans, they're fine.
You know, there is there is that that there is
a rivalry with the Caducks fans and the and the Kings.
Sure so so. And you're saying that they they are nice,
they are good fans opposed to the Edmonton fans. Yeah.
(07:39):
The Edmonton fans take on the personality and the persona
of Connor McDavid. Yeah, and the team and the team.
Connor McDavid tries to fool your Rodney. He tries to
fool you.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
He's a great player, but don't turn your head, right.
He's not Ovechkin, he's not Gretzky, He's not in that
league he thinks he is. And he's certainly the fastest
guy there is that, there's no question about that.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
But wouldn't the numbers suggest that he is close to
that league? Numbers are skewed. They're skewed. Numbers don't lie,
or do they? And this they do.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Here's why they lie, because yes, he has great numbers,
but he's a dirty player. Sidney Crosby's Sidney Crosby a
dirty player. No, No, not that I would be aware of.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
And I haven't heard any reference to Sidney Crosby being
a dirty player. He's not a dirty, great player and
it's been a great player for a long period of
time and Pittsburgh loves him and uh an exceptional talent.
But to consider him dirty, no, absolutely not well, because
anytime anyone goes to that team, you become dirty. You
(08:58):
get covered with their dirt and then you play like that. Lord.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Anyway, we'll talk more about that coming up. I just
wanted to say tonight, tonight the journey begins.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
You get covered with that dirt.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
That's right, covered with the oil. You have oil all
over you.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
You need to take a shower. How do you really feel, Fred, Oh,
I think it'll be a great series. No, that's how
I really feel. That's how I really feel. We'll get
more to that. Okay, off day for the Dodgers. They
take two of three from the Rangers. That the thing
I want to talk about off the top is glass.
Now I don't he had to leave with cramps in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
He had to leave because his cleats were muddy. And
when he is good, he is very very good. Now
he's had a history, Rodney of problems. But come on, man,
come on, come on, come on them on what you
couldn't pitch because your cleats were muddy. Now you're getting cramps,
(10:04):
and I'm not saying those are.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Not say that. Let's not just say he couldn't pitch
because the cleats were muddy. That's not the only reason.
There was something else going on. What was going on?
Then yesterday? Yesterday, Fred, you're saying that. You know, if
you I don't know if you've ever had cramps during
the course of a game or in the middle of
a game, it is excruciating and it is a problem,
(10:29):
especially if you are the focal point and you are
a pitcher, if you're playing in left field. You can
kind of, you know, work it out between pitches. You
can kind of move it around a little bit. You
can kind of get away with it maybe for a
few innings, and you know, the ball is not always
hit to you every every single play, so you can
(10:50):
maybe work through it to a point where you got
it back to feeling good. Eat some bananas and some
pickles in between innings, so you can kind of get
that feeling away from you. But as a picture, you
can't avoid it. You are the focal point. You are
the guy on the mound that starts the inning, it
starts the ad bat So nothing happens without you starting that.
(11:13):
And if you've got a tweak or you've got something
going on that doesn't allow you to be at your best,
and whether it be a cramp, whether it be a
you know, a finger or knuckle that's kind of off
a little bit or anything anything your landing spot and
you've got you've got a bunion and your landing spot
is affecting your you know, your your position of your
(11:36):
your slider or your or your split finger, then you've
got to address it. You've got to tell people, you've
got to talk about it. To suggest that a cramp
is not a major issue during in and during the
course of a game, Fred is ridiculous. What are you
talking about.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
I say, more hydration. I mean, you can't have a
guy that you're counting and I staring cramps happened.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I've got it, Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
But the game before that, I mean, I'm still trying
to get over my cleachure money, I'm still trying to
get over that. And now this, you know, a lot
is expected of him this year, and when he's on,
he's on.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
But he was rolling what are you talking about on
he was rolling, he was rolling through the rangers. We'll
keep rolling down that river, And I say, dominating, dominating them,
dominating them, And so it had to be something really serious.
And sometimes in the in the midst of a a
(12:40):
pitch or a sequence or a hitter, you have something
that that pops up that may you know, in the
back of your mind is like, this may not be
a big deal. Maybe I can fight through this, but
you owe it to your team and you owe it
to yourself and everybody around you to address it. Go
something's off. I'm cramping right now, man, I'm cramping. I can't.
(13:00):
I don't want to give up a three run home
run because I couldn't push off or I couldn't get
the leverage that I needed on my breaking ball, and
so I threw it anyway and it ended up in
the seats. I mean, things happen. Things happen, and I
don't want to You know, you can't pile on glass now, Fred,
(13:20):
I don't know what you're trying to do, you know,
other than pile on a guy for having a cramp.
And I know a cramp sounds like it's Oh, it's
a minor deal, but not for a picture.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
It's not I have a cramp right now. I have
a cramp right now in your mouth. No, okay, And
I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying Rodney or
anything else. Now, I understand what you're saying. But the
point is this. Yeah, I understand cramps happen, but that
cleat thing still sits in my sticks, in my craw
(13:53):
and now this anyway, they go to the bullpen, and
they went on the backs of the bullpen Saturday, Roki Sazaki.
I thought I pitched very well, deserved better, should have won.
He looked good. Now that's the guy. And remember what's
that his third or four start. He's twenty three years old.
Now you're going to see what he is. You're starting
(14:14):
to see what he is. He looked good, really good.
But they lost in extra innings. In Kirbyates, who pitched
for the Rangers last year, gave up that home run.
Blake Trenton was placed on the il fearm tightness. They're
checking that today. No timeline for the return. But the
good news then was Evan Phillips was back. And what
(14:34):
did he look good? He looked good. He did a
fantastic job Saturday and Sunday he looked like he had
missed a beat. So that was the good news for
the Dodgers. Off day, they're in Chicago, and do they
how many times did they play the Cubs this year?
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I man, I mean, come on, they played him seventy
two times already this season, right, and fifteen times in Japan.
They've played the Cubs more times than they've played anybody
in the last ten years. It definitely feels that way.
But we used to say that about teams in the division,
(15:13):
the Padres or anybody else.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It was Colorado one year. I thought they played Colorado
fifty times. Every time you turn around, they were playing Colorado.
Now the Cubs. This has got to be it for
the Cubs. They're not even in the division.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I know.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I mean, this has to wrap up the Cubs.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Two games and a thank you. And the problem was
that we got to do some research on that to
make sure that this wraps up the Cubs because we're
not sure because they may play them again another series.
But I don't think so. I don't think so. But Fred,
getting back to that, come on, are you are you
really like coming down on glass now or having you know, cramps,
(15:53):
aren't you like in the first reaction should be thank
god it was cramp, It wasn't anything deeper.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yes, it should be, And probably am being a little harsh.
You're right, And once I can get that other issue
out of my mind, it'll be different again, because I
think he's great.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
But you've got to be available if you if you
want to, you want somebody to be brutally honest, don't you.
I mean, especially if your pitcher, especially if you're the
Dodgers' pitching staff, And the Dodgers are are very transparent
when it comes to that. I mean, that's why I
think they're the obviously the and maybe it's biased and
probably is biased that they're the best organization in baseball.
(16:32):
Is that that they cover all the bases and they
are transparent when something's going on. You see Dave Roberts
come up. He's very you know, he's very forthright. Andrew
Freeman is very forthright and talking about how they approach things.
We've heard him talk about guys like listen, we want
him back, but we're going to give him every opportunity
to go test the market. Not every GM says those
(16:54):
type of things. But this organization operates that way, and
I think it's a you know, it's a very good
feeling as a player that you can express that without
it being held against you. So even internally for Tyler Glass,
now let's say, you know, it's the cramps are an
(17:14):
issue that is that is big because every one of
these games in Texas was close. It was it was
tight as we've seen. We saw a walk off one
run and on a strike him out throw them out
by Will Smith. I mean, every game was tight. So
you don't want your pitcher out there gutting it out going.
(17:37):
I can lift through this cramp. A cramp's not a
big thing. I can get through this. And you make
a mistake and all of a sudden there's three run Homer.
You don't want that. So I appreciate him having the
guts to stand up and go, this is what it is.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Okay, Well, it is what it is for the Lakers
and the Clippers. Let's talk about those two games when
we get back. Oh yes, hey, Monday, it is a Monday.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Come on. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend,
holiday weekend, all of that. I'm glad to be back
with you. On a Monday, we got a full pack
show three hours a day for US Dodgers out of
town getting ready to play the Cubs tomorrow. NBA basketball
(18:28):
Happening playoffs kicked off this weekend. Some exciting games and
some disappointing games. Go ahead, you start, let's go. I
don't know. I mean I think that we start with
the Lakers. And I don't know if many people saw
that coming, but they looked extremely flat, Fred, They looked
(18:50):
extremely tired, flat like they were not not ready to play.
And I think maybe because when they drew Minnesota, a
lot of folks, including Vegas and everybody felt that, oh,
the Laker is going to walk through the first round
and they'll be okay, and let's let's see who there
(19:11):
their matchup will be in the second round. And they
ran into a bus stall. They ran into a team
that was ready to play, that came out to LA
and we are no slouch. We're in the playoffs for
a reason. And Edwards is a he's the real deal.
But I think you know, all of those guys, Julius
(19:32):
Randall coming back to LA to play, there was some incentive,
There was some motivation, I just think Minnesota was so
much more ready to play than the Lakers. What about you.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
I think Minnesota came out and punched them right in
the mouth, just punch. I don't think they were impressed
that the Lakers had Lebron and Luca. I think they
had other ideas about what was going to happen. Uh
JJ Reddick for whatever, and played Jackson Hayes like five minutes.
So we went with a small lineup against this Land
(20:05):
of the Giants team. During the regular season, Jackson Hayes
played far more than five minutes, so I don't know
what he was thinking. Luca had thirty seven. We said
it on Friday, He's going to play well in the playoffs.
He's going to get his I think he was efficient
shooting the ball. He's going to get his Afterwards, Basically,
(20:28):
JJ Reddick said, the physical play of the Wolves caught
him off guard. Really, how could you be caught off guard? Yeah,
you've played him this year. How could you be caught
off guard? You can't be caught off guard. You know
exactly who you're playing. You had a week to prepare,
(20:48):
You've looked at tape. Why would you say, well, that
was surprising we didn't think they'd played like that. Well,
how the hell do you think they play?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, you think nothing. Nothing in the playoffs, she'd catch
you off guard. I mean, teams prepare, they get ready
for the the uh you know something that that may
happen differently, they are prepared for anything. So nothing in
the playoffs, she'd catch you off guard. They come out
(21:17):
and they say, we're gonna first first ten possessions, We're
gonna shoot threes. That should not catch you off guard
because anything goes in the playoffs. And they came out,
as you mentioned, and smacked them right in the mouth,
and the Lakers really never recovered.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
I mean when Luka went out in the first quarter
all of a sudden, the tide turner.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
That was the end of it.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
You can't do that. You can't see her and say, well, man,
they sure surprised us. They were more physical. If you
said the NBA.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
And yeah, it is the NBA, and they're more physical. Okay,
so what are you gonna do about it?
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Well, yeah, what were you gonna do about it? The
small lineup didn't work, So that's on JJ. It didn't work.
They're too big, you know, if you look at it,
Minnesota was right there with the Lakers. Minnesota could have
been third, the Lakers could have been sixth. I mean,
it was a log jam right there. So they're no slouch.
(22:19):
And we sat here and thought, oh, yeah, the Lakers
will take care of them, and maybe they will. But
the number one thing the Lakers must do in the
game tomorrow night is actually show up. I mean that
was humiliating. They got punched. Yeah, and you don't have
left back that.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
If they were on the road, you would say they
never left the hotel room. Thankful, they never left the crib.
They never left the crib in that first game. They
were still at their house and didn't get the memo
that the game was starting and tried to catch up
at halftime and it was no to no avail. But
(22:57):
they looked null and void, not in just did and
I don't want to say I don't want to say shocked,
but they look like they got hit in the head
and could not get their bearings afterwards, you know, And
that's not good for a playoff team. That doesn't work. Brett.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
No, you get to this point and given the excitement
generated after the trade and the way they played, and
here we are and everybody's thrilled beyond belief and then
that so go to a bigger lineup. Stop messing around
with this. Well, well just play small ball right against giants.
We're gonna play small ball against giants. Okay, Well that
(23:46):
didn't work. Don't do that second. Everybody be ready. If
there's one encouraging note here, when Lebron has lost the
first game of a playoff series, more often than not,
they come back to win the series.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
He knows what it takes to win.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
That's not a question.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Does that make you feel better or worse? What does
that make you feel when? When when that stat comes up,
or whenever someone says when he loses the first game
of a series it turns out to be okay, you
feel good about that? Now? What does that make you
feel right now?
Speaker 1 (24:22):
It may me think he's pissed, and that's not gonna fly.
He didn't come all this way with the trade and
the season. He didn't get here to have that seed
to come out and lose because they got punched and
didn't know what to do. So they need to clean
(24:42):
that up, and I think the fans need to be
in it. If you watch the NBA playoffs I watched
them all weekend long. When you they take that wide
shot here we comment it's typical. Like in baseball, everybody's
waving a towel. In the NBA, they give out shirts.
They put them on every seat.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Now, if Staple Center, if you're sitting in the front row,
you spent the big box and you're there to be
seen as much as to see the game.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
You probably you know. I can't. I can't mess up
my outfit. Let me tell you something. Everybody can get
Wait wait, wait, wait, you can't what I can't mess
at my outfit? You know that you've got that product
blouse on. I'm not putting a white T shirt over
my produ of blouse. You kidding? What I mean? Are
you kidding me? I got this guccy Gucci T shirt.
I got the Gucci plain white T shirt that cost
(25:29):
me seven hundred dollars. Are you kidding me?
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I'm not going to cover that up with a Laker shirt?
Come on, of course? Not So how about this, everybody
tomorrow night put on the damn shirts? How do we
do that tomorrow? How about we forget a little sense
of electricity tomorrow about everybody actually like wow?
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Instead of them.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Well, I'm here. Look you see here.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Hey, go up there, baby, get the camera ready. I'm
on the I'm on court side, I'm right there at yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Instead of that, how about act like a bunch of
fans that know their team is in a fight and
you want to do all you can. I do think
there is an advantage to playing at home, especially in
the NBA, where the fans are right on top of
the court. You are, you are closer to NBA basketball
(26:22):
than no other sport. You are sitting next to people
on the bench some of those seats, it's like you're
on the team. You can turn around and start talking
to somebody. If you did, they throw you out. But
you could.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
That's how close you are.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
So how about act like it tomorrow night?
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Put on the shirt? Why right, I'm in LA. It's
not about teams, it's not about the Lakers. But you're right,
you're about the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
And if it's not about the it's not about the
Lakers tomorrow where they get punched in the head again,
then don't bitch, Then don't complain, Then don't say what happened.
I don't even know what happened here? How could this happen.
I don't know. Act like you care while you're there.
It's okay, you're still cool. Everybody's cool. Put on the shirt,
(27:15):
stand up and act like you care. Stop worrying about
high fiving people. Act like a fan. Be in the
game cause don't cause a commotion. That don't cause a commotion.
Make it difficult for Minnesota. It's like when the Dodgers
were playing and we said make it difficult. Don't just
(27:36):
sit there the padres here or the Yankees. Act like
you're in the game. You all know how difficult it
is to get to the playoffs, and certainly for the
Lakers to have this kind of shot this year because
they haven't had a chance in hell the last couple
And now here we are, and you know, you don't
need to pose Tomorrow Night's not a posing night for
(27:59):
you tomorrow and I get in the game, put on
the shirt, act like you care, being loud, being raucous,
because the players will feed off that energy. Granted, the
players are paid and they should do what they do.
We're aware of that, but you can't. But I will
tell you that doesn't matter. You know, you know it's
(28:20):
not just because they're paid become robots. Players are not robots.
And you feed off the energy of your home crowd.
And I, you know, haven't played, know that for a fact.
When I come out and I know my crowd is
ready to go and they're they're ready to riot if
need be, they're ready to fight an opposing team that
(28:40):
has a different jersey on, I am fired up and
I come out of that tunnel, I'm so ready to
go because my fans are ready to go. That means
something to the players. And when that, you know, opening
tip happens and your your crowd is into it that
I'm telling you, it feeds it you and it gets
(29:01):
you ready to go. But if it's not there, and
it's kind of a whole hum oh whatever, whatever, whatever,
and and the place is half empty and until the
middle of the first quarter, like we're gonna we're gonna
approach this getting ready for the game as our fans did,
because they didn't show up for the first twelve minutes
(29:22):
or eight minutes. So you know, we'll get it going
in the second quarter. We'll get it going because our
fans are not here. Why are we why do we
need to be here watch a game in San Francisco
at the Chase Center. Here's a little secret. Those people
probably have as much money as we do in LA.
There's a lot of money up there. Oh yeah, all right.
(29:45):
If there's a lot of money up there, watch those fans.
See how they react, See what they do. They're all
wearing those shirts. They're jumping up there, losing their mind.
And we got people posing here, posing, put on the shirt.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Act like a fan.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Make a difference, contribute to your team. Now, let's talk
about the Clippers. So they've got Game two tonight in Denver,
and the Clippers showed up, So give them credit. They
just shot themselves. Their loss was self inflicted. They committed
(30:23):
playoff suicide. What do you mean by that, Fred, Well,
when you turn the ball over twenty times four and overtime,
you're not gonna win.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Pretty simple. You don't think playoff suicide? Yeah that suicide.
That didn't help. Yeah, yeah, it didn't help. Get damp that.
Let's revamp it. Not playoff suicide, Fred, it's game one,
Game one suicide. It came out and was sloppy, and yeah,
it's it's that series over suicide.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Fred, Come on, No, but it's self inflicted. And if
you can win one, you should win one. You shouldn't
give one away. Give Russell Westbrook credit. He was all
over the place for Denver. He was everywhere. Granted, then
he became Russell Westbrook a couple of times, but his
energy was infectious of everybody crazy. I think the Nuggets too.
(31:19):
But you can't turn the ball over twenty times. You
can't and win. Seeing that game, that's what I was
gonna say. You can do it, but you ain't gonna win. Oh,
we ain't gonna win. But how much extra motivation do
you give to Russell Westbrook. Havn't been here with both
teams and all of that, you know, being able to
get back at him, there was an extra motivation for him.
(31:41):
And he was absolutely one hundred percent ready to play,
ready to play. And we can't say that about the
two LA teams in the first game of their series,
that they were ready to play. But Russell Westbrook was
ready to play. He knew what time it was, so
I'm from LA. I'm gonna let him know, and he
(32:03):
let him know, and he was.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Big throughout the game and he did some Russell Westbrook things,
but down the stretch and in overtime, he was big
for them. They don't win it unless he comes up
big for them. You know what, both the teams, both
our teams. Too cool for school, Yeah, too cool for
school over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
You can't do that. Clippers need to get back into
it tonight. You don't want to fall.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Oh two.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
You know you can win because you gave him the
first game. So take care of the ball, take care
of your business, and get back into it. As for
the Lakers, do everybody a favor and simply show up.
That will be a marked improvement from Game one.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Show up.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
No, as Eric Dickerson would say, Rodney, you've said it
a thousand times. You know those guys over there, they
get paid.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Two. Yes they do, Yes they do.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
And the thing I've learned after watching Game one, they
don't give a damn If Luca Lebron and Steph Curry
are on the same team. They could care less. Because
if you look at the Timberwolves, you go, oh, if
you don't really follow the NBA, they have Anthony Edwards.
Yeah right, they traded for Julius Randall. They have Carl
(33:22):
Anthony Towns.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Yeah, Rudy Gobert could play defense, but he can't do
anything else? Well, I traded Karl Anthony Towns.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
I mean, who, yeah, you former Laker though, former Laker,
but you look at them and you go, man, well
they're no match for our guys. Yeah they are if
they want it more. And the more I think about it,
they were just more physical than us. That means you're unprepared.
(33:50):
You can't even say that you're unprepared. Well, they were
more physical.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
So are you putting this on JJ Red for not
having the guys prepared for a dog fight in which
the Timberwoods Timberwolves brought in game one? Did you think
that that you could just kind of ease your way
through game one and you're playing at home and all
those good things happening, and and everybody expects you to win,
(34:22):
that you can do this and that's how you cruise
to it? Does that fall on JJ now you having
the team ready? Or is that fall on Lebron and
the leaders of this team, Lebron and Luca not making
sure that everybody is ready to play.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
I think it falls more on JJ. I think this one.
I think this one goes to JJ. When you say
they were more physical, we were out physical. You get
this one because that's your job. Put guys in positions
where they're not out physical so that he gets this one.
But let's not underestimate the fact that despite the fact
(34:57):
he has done a terrific job, he is a first
your head coach.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
So hopefully the adjustments are made and it will be
a different story for the Lakers tomorrow and a different
story for the Clippers tonight. Don't open that box. I'm
telling you, do not open that box.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
That's next come on. Today's Afternoon Delight is Rather Be
Alone by Leon Thomas. Singer recruits R and B singer
and star Hallie Bailey as a featured artist on this
track that debuted over the weekend. The song is the
(35:44):
first single off the forthcoming deluxe version of the Thomas
September twenty twenty four album entitled Mutt Again. Today's Afternoon
Delight is Rather Be a Loan by Leon Thomas featuring
(36:06):

Speaker 1 (36:35):
You know, more and more kids today after college are
moving back home. Have you heard about this, Rodney?
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yeah, I lip it? Yeah, okay, yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
More kids after they graduate are moving home, especially in
southern California. Why huh, Well, first, you can't afford an
where to live. They're just you can't afford it.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
And second, even.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Though you've graduated with a degree, it's really tough to
get a job. So now a'm man, someone's been out
of the house, let's say for four years at college,
and they moved back home. And during that four year
period of time, you know, you see your son or daughter,
your kids, but you've had the house to yourself. But
(37:15):
and you've probably changed the composition of the house. Maybe
their room is a storage things have changed. But you
want your kids to come back, yes, you want them
with you. So here's a story of the kid to
move back after college. And you know, during the process
(37:36):
of moving back, he needed to make some room for
his stuff because he's back.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
This is the kid moving back and make rooms for
his stuff, right, yes, yeah, so worse so the kids space,
you need your space. If you're a kid coming back home,
you know mom and dad may have you know, added
some things to your room or somewhere else. But I'm
coming back now, I need I need my space, I
need room from my exactly.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
And also understand, when you come home, you're not the
same kid that went to college. You've been on your
own a couple of years now, right, You're more independent
and you're gonna do things differently. So anyway, the kid
comes home and look at this.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
There's some boxes, some boxes. He's got to move out of.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
His room because he needs his space, and he's probably
got more stuff now than.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
He did before.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Yeah, So anyway, there are these boxes in there, and
he goes, what are in.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
These what are these boxes?
Speaker 1 (38:32):
So he opens the boxes and he takes a look,
and why not they're in his room. And what does
he find? He finds that his parents have made homemade
porn tapes. He's got mom and dad doing it.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Not wait, not not porn tapes that you know that
you kind of rented or stored up, that you found
and like, hey, I'm gonna store these up. This is
Jake blah blah blah and Amber blah blah blah that
we're just going to keep in our library. Right, these
are mom and dad specific tapes tes.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Mom and Dad filmed themselves. Yes, okay, now you talking
about an education.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
This guy thought he had went in college. He comes home.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
That's not the kind of class he wanted to tape's.
He's conflicted after seeing the tapes, and he doesn't want
to look at all of them.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
No, I go, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, he said.
He said he doesn't want to look at all of them,
which means, in hints to he looked at a few
of them. No, he looked at one. I mean he
wanted to know what it was, and then he went, oh,
my god, Fred, I don't know about you, but if
I look at five seconds of one tape of my
(39:56):
parents and figure out what that was, I don't know
if I get through.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Well, even if he saw five seconds, he looked at
one enough to say, oh my god. You know what
do you go up to mom and say, my god, Mom,
that's the side of you I've never seen before. Yeah,
what are you gonna say, Dad? I didn't know you
could move like that. I mean, what are you gonna
say to your parents?
Speaker 3 (40:21):
I'll say this to guys, So how it happened? So, yes,
he was going through boxes. He found a hard drive
that his parents said, yes, you can use, we don't
need that anymore. And when he opened up and plugged
it into his computer and opened it up, there was a.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Fold hard drive. He said, the hard drive. Yes, So
the parents said, we don't need it. It's what did
they think it was erased, there's nothing on it, or
we don't even care what's on it, just use it.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
So not necessarily because so when he plugged in the
hard drive and opened it up, and you have all
the folders, there was one specific folder that said do
not open and all.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Caps wait wait wait wait wait wait, yes, the hard drive.
The folder wherever the hard drive was in said do
not own. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
So he plugs the hard drive van like a thumb
drive whatever it was, and how many terribies, plugs it
into his laptop. Once it populates onto his screen, there
is a folder inside of that that says do not open.
And he was like, well, I mean you tell anybody
do not open especially Fred, I mean tell Fred don't open.
Fred's kicking that damn door down seconds. So he opens
it up and the first.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Thing he sees. Is just just.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Hundreds of videos of his parents whoever courted themselves in
many different scenarios, doing whatever they do. So he was
tempted by the do not open.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Of course he was. It wouldn't be don't touch, don't touch,
so everybody's gonna touch you touch kid, don't touch that
they're touching it. Don't eat that they're eating it. I mean,
that is the worst thing you could put on something
you want to keep private.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Well, I mean, it gives new definition to the hard drive.
Don't you think.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
They got me to thinking about this this morning? He's traumatized.
Does he have any siblings? I don't know. We don't
know if he has any siblings, because if he's got
a sister or brother or someone else and he was
the first one to kind of stumble up on this
or discover this, does he show it to his siblings
or does he just tell them? I mean, well, what
(42:25):
is man? That's traumatizing?
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Look, if he has younger siblings, I guess we know
how that happened.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Of course we do. They chronicled it. This was you, Johnny. Hey, Hey, Debbie, Debbie,
I can I know when you were conceived?
Speaker 1 (42:44):
I could tell this was you, Debbie, Debbie, I'll tell
you what. I was so happy no one I was
pregnant with you. I was screaming.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Here watch his tape. You'll know you know this is you, Debbie, right, Debbie?
There it is Debbie. You know it was you. Now.
Don't you feel special that I knew right away when
dad was doing this thing and I could tell you
this is you, Debbie, This is you. Baby? You know
(43:13):
what made me think? Did you ever hear your parents
have sex? I did not? Thank god? Did you ever
hear them? I bet you? I know people, I did not.
I did not, Thank God, I did not ever hear.
What would you do if you did? I don't know.
I don't know what I would I just I would
have I would have cringed. I would have tried to
block it out. I would try to if I heard something,
(43:40):
I probably would have ran away with a la la
la la L. I don't want to hear it.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
But I definitely did not hear my parents, did you.
I don't think my parents had sex. I was the
immaculate conception.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
Stork dropped you off on.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
That's right, yeah, Kevin?
Speaker 3 (43:59):
You uh no, no, thankfully, No, absolutely not that's one
of those like childhood memories that you would just like
burn away, like you would just force yourself to forget.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
And psychologists. The problem with this conversation is that we
we all including wait, first of all, Ronnie.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
Did you uh no, thankfully?
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Okay, so all of us can say no. But I
think Fred would be the only one that would would
have attempted to try.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
To spot on. Absolutely, not even not even I would
there even Fred has boundaries.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
Huh. And that's ready. Hey, what do you guys doing
with the door closed? Leave that open? Let me let
me hear a little bit. Mom, Mom, I think I
have a headache. Mom.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
No, but I think some of our listeners did.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
I'm sure a great number of people have, for sure.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
And I wonder if you're traumatized after that. Oh, that's
a good question. You know what, we'll talk about it.
If you're traumatized after.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
You want to take calls on this, don't you?
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Friends, Yeah, we'll we'll do that later. M all right,
when we come back.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Dela Hernandez of The Times joins us he was not
kind to the Lakers this morning.
