and recalled this story.

they took two or three and they win the series.
Certainly the matchup between Otani and Aaron Judge played out
big time. I think Friday night, Oh O'tani captured the
imagination of the nation when he hit two out, don't

home stadium and people looking at Judge at that home
run and now all eyes are at him, and I
remember the camera going to the dugout and looking at
him going, Okay, what's he gonna do? What's he gonna
do when he gets up and he's the first hitter?
And Bang answered that bell Fred? That was That was
That was a clutch, a moment in the regular season

always a battle, la New York Yankees Dodger is always
a battle. And Judge set the tone. But our guy

to get challenged. And I think the more they are challenged,
the the better that they play. And and hopefully that
is the case during these next two weeks of games
because they are they are going to be tested, which
they were this past weekend. But it was it was
a great series, not only for the Dodgers, but I

think for baseball as well. Just get an early review, yeah, right,
As I always say, a little litmus test, it's kind
of see where you're at, kind of check in and
see where you're at. That Annihilation of Saturday will be
my favorite game of the year by far. Yeah, that
was just unbelievable. And I know it's one game, So

what do you think the rest of the league looked
at that? Because it's obviously it was a national game.
People are watching, even guys you know their games are
over there going and watching that game, and fans about
the cities are watching it. What do you think to
take away from that game on Saturday was from the
rest of the fan bases around the country in Major
League Baseball, you better watch your ass, That's what takeaway was. Yeah, oh,

it would have been better for the Yankees to lose

would have been better for them to lose to anyone
because every team has that. Everybody's going to get it

it takeaway be from that situation if he would have

saving grace that, you know, going home, because they'd beat
Yamamoto and knocked them around a little bit on Sunday,
so they could go home and go, Okay, we got
one from him, and we got one of the best pitchers.
But if he had shut him down and they won
eighteen to two on Saturday, then it would have been
I think really like, oh yeah, you guys, when they

want to do it and they want to come with it,
it's straight on strength offensively and defensively, we're in trouble.
You're right. It would have been worse for him. Yeah,
it would have been far worse if Yamamoto would pitch Saturday, Yeah,
and they'd beat him eighteen to two, because then they
would have thought they were insurmountable. And if lander Nat

goes out there Sunday and gets beat they you know,
the argument could be made. Yeah, but he wasn't. See. Yeah,
when their guys are really there. Yeah, it's a whole
different story, right, So it's kind of a blessing for

But I think when the Dodgers scored in that on Saturday,

it's very important to us, and we love it, and

people seriously don't care. You should know that. You go, well,

that was so unbelievable that people that just casually follow things,
we're all talking about that beatdown, right, Yeah, yeah, I agree.

to leave the stadium. They were enjoying every inning and
every moment of that game. By the way, did the
fans take my advice and actually watch the games or
were they on their phones and all that kind of stuff.

The more fans were into it, I believed they went
into it. I think they wanted to miss anything. It

NBA Finals starting you have there. It is the Pacers
and the Thunder. Now, if you look at these two
tea first of all, the argument, well, ABC is going
to be upset, and the ratings and nothing really has ratings,
so don't kids yourself. Live Sports does better than anything else.

But the ratings aren't what they used to be. So
that's what you got. You got the Pacers and the Thunder.
I think it'll be pretty interesting. I think Oklahoma City wins.
But no, what are you saying The networks don't care
about the ratings anymore. They do because it's still a
metric in which they sell, but the ratings will never
be what they were, you know. So if we talk

about if we talk about ratings for and we talk about, well,
the game did a whatever number on ABC and they've
got the finals. Yeah, but they're streaming involved. There's all
kinds of things where you can access the game, so
it's not just the television number anymore. Those numbers are

spread out, so you get impressions and some of them
come from streaming and digital social media and all that. Yeah.
So I mean all of that counts in in the
way they do it now. But so the argument, well,
this is a bad matchup. It is the matchup. So
let's start with that. It is what it is, and
you move on number two. I think it's fascinating seeing

these two teams because of the way they're constructed. Yeah,
I mean, Tom say it's save people say it's save it. It
is going to save the NBA because of the way
they play, And yes, it's you're not having the global
superstars in the finals, but you got complete teams that
actually played good defense, and they play as a team,

and they're playing nine to ten deep. You know, they're
playing with depth. So this is exactly what the NBA
should be, is what a lot of people are saying.
I don't argue that, Yeah don't. I don't take exception
to that. I think the NBA should be more like that.
But the NBA is star driven. Back when NBC got

the contract and thirty five forty years ago, when CBS
was out out of the NBA and we took it
at NBC, they started promoting it with the stars. You know,
it'll be Michael Jordan again, it's Magic Johnson. That's how
they started promoting it. And the players really took more
ownership of that league than any league. It is about

the stars in the NBA. So then what happens These
guys get paid more and more. Lebron James will make
fifty four million dollars. Does he deserve it? Well, he
puts a lot of people in the seats, I'll tell
you that, so he probably deserves it. But what is
that Christmas Day viewership? Right? We talk about ratings, the
impression Christmas Day, him and versus Steph going to do

a crazy impression number. I should say, yeah, those games
would have done historically well. But the problem is when
you start that and OKC is going to figure this
out pretty quick because they have this young team of
guys that they drafted and developed, well, their deals come

up and all of a sudden, you can't keep all
of them anymore because they're all going to get paid.
Because that's the NBA model. The NBA model is you're there,
you start to get paid, and all of a sudden,
you get paid an awful lot, and now you can't
keep everybody. That's the problem. That's why this is a
bit of an anomaly. When these guys get good, they're

not everybody staying. Yeah, they've got this year and maybe
one more year maybe of that of this, you know,
and then like you said, those guys are going to
get paid, those guys are gonna have to because you
can't pay You can't pay more than two guys fifty
million dollars, right, And when you start that, then you

got to start filling in. Yeah, the old filling it
come to Phoenix Suns. You pay them the Phoenix Suns,
you know, and they've become very very top heavy and
we're seeing depth and defense wins nowadays in the NBA.
Right now, everybody loves Kevin Durant. I mean, he still
loves Kevin Durant. I wouldn't have my team. I wouldn't

take him. He costs too much. He's not enough to
get you over to the top. He costs too much.
Maybe the model has to be We've got to find
and identify and I'm sure they exist. By the way,
we got to find a lot of Austin Reeves esque
skill level players where I mean you have to have

centers forwards. They're not all Austin Reeves, but they're all
pretty good. Yeah, maybe not one of them is spectacular,
but eight of them are pretty damn good. Yeah. What
Boston model, right, Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, two guys you pay,
but you got Al Horford there that can play. You

got Derek White there that can play, and Drew Holliday
that can play. You know when they won it that
they pay, but they're not. They're not making forty fifty
million dollars, right. You know that's probablyhy the way you
gotta do it. That's why they say, well, you know,
Austin Reeves is the Lakers got to keep him because

of his contract. Yeah, fourteen million. Yeah, he's a bargain
at that at that price point. See, the Lakers are
the ones that started this. Really when Jerry buses here,
we're going to get the stars. Gotta have stars, got
to be exciting, gotta win. Two of the three will
fill the fill the stadium. Two of the three will

fill the stadium. So they have Lebron now and uah,
there you go. You can't get much bigger stars than that.
But they cost a lot of money. Yeah, what if
the Lakers didn't have Lebron or Luca? What if they
had eight guys with the skill level of Austin Reeves
or a tad bit better, but not Luca's skill level.

They all played together and they're all good, but nobody
was a superstar. And by the way, for whatever reason,
they didn't get hurt. Those eight guys, I think they'd
actually have a legitimate shot to win the whole thing.
Really good players, not superstars, but really good and a

lot of really good players. I think they'd have a
chance to win. Would it work here? There's no giant star.
That means you wouldn't have Luca or Lebron. Right, you
wouldn't have either one. You might be able to do
it and get through there once, but you certainly couldn't
go back to back. You couldn't sustain it. I don't

think you could sustain it because there would be too
many teams like you. You would have to you, you
would every game would be somewhat of a dog fighting
kind of close, you know what I mean. You go
in even you know most most most of the playoffs,
and against good teams, you go in even not necessarily

a favorite, So those games could go either way.

Like even with there being more of an emphasis on
team basketball. I mean, all the even the final four
teams that were left in the conference finals had a star.
You have Shae Yodos Alexander, you had Anthony Edwards, you
had Tyre's Halliburton, and you had Jalen Brunson.

Yeah, just not the ones we've been used to and
accustomed to over the year. Right.

So, but there's still start the idea of having a
deep roster of eight or nine guys who are all talented,
but none are a superstar. I think only gets you
so far. You still need to have a standout player,
even if it's just one. Maybe it's one instead of three.
But the super teams we've seen over the last fifteen years.

they took two or three and they win the series.
Certainly the matchup between Otani and Aaron Judge played out
big time. I think Friday night, Oh O'tani captured the
imagination of the nation when he hit two out, don't

you think so, Rodney, Yeah, off of Max Freed. Yeah, absolutely,
absolutely their ace and and I think you know he
he especially captured the moment because Judge went first. Right,
It's usually always the second guy that gets the uh
the more of the tension because because that was the thing, right,

first and everybody's wondering, everybody, you know, everybody in their mind, Okay,
how is Otani gonna respond? Does Otani respond? How will
he respond? Can't he respond? Judge at one? Now it's
Otani's and then mount You mind the build up pressure
that that was for I'm sure for Otani in his

home stadium and people looking at Judge at that home
run and now all eyes are at him, and I
remember the camera going to the dugout and looking at
him going, Okay, what's he gonna do? What's he gonna
do when he gets up and he's the first hitter?
And Bang answered that bell Fred? That was That was
That was a clutch, a moment in the regular season

that I that I can remember because it was because
it is. It's a pride thing la New York. It's
always a battle, la New York Yankees Dodger is always
a battle. And Judge set the tone. But our guy
came back and said, Okay, hold on, hold on, we
got something for you too. You know. It's kind of

then Fat Joe couldn't really answer it. That was ugly.
That was bad. That was a bad day for Joe,
bad day and the Yankees. Yeah, it was bad, But

a good thing. I agree with him. I think it's
gonna be a good thing. That the Dodgers are going
through the stretch now just playing the Yankees. I got
the Mets. They're gonna have the Padres twice and what
in ten days or something like that. They they're going

to get challenged. And I think the more they are challenged,
the the better that they play. And and hopefully that
is the case during these next two weeks of games
because they are they are going to be tested, which
they were this past weekend. But it was it was
a great series, not only for the Dodgers, but I

think for baseball as well. Just get an early review, yeah, right,
As I always say, a little litmus test, it's kind
of see where you're at, kind of check in and
see where you're at. That Annihilation of Saturday will be
my favorite game of the year by far. Yeah, that
was just unbelievable. And I know it's one game, So

what do you think the rest of the league looked
at that? Because it's obviously it was a national game.
People are watching, even guys you know their games are
over there going and watching that game, and fans about
the cities are watching it. What do you think to
take away from that game on Saturday was from the
rest of the fan bases around the country in Major
League Baseball, you better watch your ass, That's what takeaway was. Yeah, oh,

are they doing this with all the people hurt they
got Yeah, and Moki didn't even play right. It was like,
oh my god. Oh you know what if we didn't
think they were real, they're real. Yeah, you know, sure
they might lose here or there. Well, apparently when they
want to win, they can win. That's what people thought.

no there's no weak spots up and down that lineup,
and don't relax because Keik could beat you too. Yeah.
I think that was just a direct message to everybody,
no matter what you think, no matter what, when we
want to turn it on, this is what you're gonna get.

I mean, that was that was humiliating. I'm telling you,
it would have been better for the Yankees to lose
eighteen to two to the Marlins than the Dodgers. It
would have been better for them to lose to anyone
because every team has that. Everybody's going to get it
once in a while on that stage. Oh my god,

the national Game. That's embarrassing. There's no two ways about it.
And I'm sure you know. So they get Sunday's game,
they get out of here and go, well, you know what,
we're good. We got the last one we played against them. No,
you don't forget that. You think it's better or worse.
Yougn who had been better for either team depending on
what you think. If Yamamoto pitched in that second game

that they beat him eighteen to two, Like, what would
it takeaway be from that situation if he would have
been the one instead of Landing Neck pitching in Game two.
Do you think people have looked at it like, oh
my god, and their ace shut us down except for
the two home runs, because it kind of gave him

some It kind of gave them a little bit of
saving grace that, you know, going home, because they'd beat
Yamamoto and knocked them around a little bit on Sunday,
so they could go home and go, Okay, we got
one from him, and we got one of the best pitchers.
But if he had shut him down and they won
eighteen to two on Saturday, then it would have been
I think really like, oh yeah, you guys, when they

want to do it and they want to come with it,
it's straight on strength offensively and defensively, we're in trouble.
You're right. It would have been worse for him. Yeah,
it would have been far worse if Yamamoto would pitch Saturday, Yeah,
and they'd beat him eighteen to two, because then they
would have thought they were insurmountable. And if lander Nat

goes out there Sunday and gets beat they you know,
the argument could be made. Yeah, but he wasn't. See. Yeah,
when their guys are really there. Yeah, it's a whole
different story, right, So it's kind of a blessing for
them that Yamamoto wasn't pitching Saturday. Yeah, I really believe that.
And you said Sunday and you're so right. I mean,

just kind of airmailed one. Yeah, so he would have
had the guy to play, yes, okay. Yeah, so now
the runner is going to second. Yeah, Mamoto picks it
up and rifles it down there they got him and

could have been an entirely different game. Yeah, change a
whole complexion. Yeah, because he Yeah, Momoto goes in pitches.
I think he threw another fifteen sixteen pitches that any
you know, and at that point it's just a matter
of time before he's coming out of the game. Oh yeah,

the Dodgers come back all the time. But you know,
I think the and the Yankees have done that too.
They they can put up runs when they want to.
But I think when the Dodgers scored in that on Saturday,
they scored early, they think, and the Yankees are like, Okay,
it's not too big a deal. We can we can
come back. A lot of game left when they made
a ten to nothing after too any was it?

jumping on, you know, we live in this world and
it's very important to us, and we love it, and

people seriously don't care. You should know that. You go, well,

the people that do really do. Sunday I talked to

in town. They were all talking about the Dodgers, and

if they watched the Dodgers on a regular basis. But
that was so unbelievable that people that just casually follow things,
we're all talking about that beatdown, right, Yeah, yeah, I agree.

Norm Really, if that game gets like that and it's

six seven, any people out there gone. People didn't want
to leave the stadium. They were enjoying every inning and
every moment of that game. By the way, did the
fans take my advice and actually watch the games or

The more fans were into it, I believed they went
into it. I think they wanted to miss anything. It

But the ratings aren't what they used to be. So
that's what you got. You got the Pacers and the Thunder.
I think it'll be pretty interesting. I think Oklahoma City wins.
But no, what are you saying The networks don't care
about the ratings anymore. They do because it's still a
metric in which they sell, but the ratings will never
be what they were, you know. So if we talk

about if we talk about ratings for and we talk about, well,
the game did a whatever number on ABC and they've
got the finals. Yeah, but they're streaming involved. There's all
kinds of things where you can access the game, so
it's not just the television number anymore. Those numbers are

spread out, so you get impressions and some of them
come from streaming and digital social media and all that. Yeah.
So I mean all of that counts in in the
way they do it now. But so the argument, well,
this is a bad matchup. It is the matchup. So
let's start with that. It is what it is, and
you move on number two. I think it's fascinating seeing

these two teams because of the way they're constructed. Yeah,
I mean, Tom say it's save people say it's save it. It
is going to save the NBA because of the way
they play, And yes, it's you're not having the global
superstars in the finals, but you got complete teams that
actually played good defense, and they play as a team,

and they're playing nine to ten deep. You know, they're
playing with depth. So this is exactly what the NBA
should be, is what a lot of people are saying.
I don't argue that, Yeah don't. I don't take exception
to that. I think the NBA should be more like that.
But the NBA is star driven. Back when NBC got

the contract and thirty five forty years ago, when CBS
was out out of the NBA and we took it
at NBC, they started promoting it with the stars. You know,
it'll be Michael Jordan again, it's Magic Johnson. That's how
they started promoting it. And the players really took more
ownership of that league than any league. It is about

the stars in the NBA. So then what happens These
guys get paid more and more. Lebron James will make
fifty four million dollars. Does he deserve it? Well, he
puts a lot of people in the seats, I'll tell
you that, so he probably deserves it. But what is
that Christmas Day viewership? Right? We talk about ratings, the
impression Christmas Day, him and versus Steph going to do

a crazy impression number. I should say, yeah, those games
would have done historically well. But the problem is when
you start that and OKC is going to figure this
out pretty quick because they have this young team of
guys that they drafted and developed, well, their deals come

up and all of a sudden, you can't keep all
of them anymore because they're all going to get paid.
Because that's the NBA model. The NBA model is you're there,
you start to get paid, and all of a sudden,
you get paid an awful lot, and now you can't
keep everybody. That's the problem. That's why this is a
bit of an anomaly. When these guys get good, they're

not everybody staying. Yeah, they've got this year and maybe
one more year maybe of that of this, you know,
and then like you said, those guys are going to
get paid, those guys are gonna have to because you
can't pay You can't pay more than two guys fifty
million dollars, right, And when you start that, then you

got to start filling in. Yeah, the old filling it
come to Phoenix Suns. You pay them the Phoenix Suns,
you know, and they've become very very top heavy and
we're seeing depth and defense wins nowadays in the NBA.
Right now, everybody loves Kevin Durant. I mean, he still
loves Kevin Durant. I wouldn't have my team. I wouldn't

take him. He costs too much. He's not enough to
get you over to the top. He costs too much.
Maybe the model has to be We've got to find
and identify and I'm sure they exist. By the way,
we got to find a lot of Austin Reeves esque
skill level players where I mean you have to have

centers forwards. They're not all Austin Reeves, but they're all
pretty good. Yeah, maybe not one of them is spectacular,
but eight of them are pretty damn good. Yeah. What
Boston model, right, Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, two guys you pay,
but you got Al Horford there that can play. You

got Derek White there that can play, and Drew Holliday
that can play. You know when they won it that
they pay, but they're not. They're not making forty fifty
million dollars, right. You know that's probablyhy the way you
gotta do it. That's why they say, well, you know,
Austin Reeves is the Lakers got to keep him because

of his contract. Yeah, fourteen million. Yeah, he's a bargain
at that at that price point. See, the Lakers are
the ones that started this. Really when Jerry buses here,
we're going to get the stars. Gotta have stars, got
to be exciting, gotta win. Two of the three will

fill the stadium. So they have Lebron now and uah,
there you go. You can't get much bigger stars than that.
But they cost a lot of money. Yeah, what if
the Lakers didn't have Lebron or Luca? What if they
had eight guys with the skill level of Austin Reeves
or a tad bit better, but not Luca's skill level.

They all played together and they're all good, but nobody
was a superstar. And by the way, for whatever reason,
they didn't get hurt. Those eight guys, I think they'd
actually have a legitimate shot to win the whole thing.
Really good players, not superstars, but really good and a

lot of really good players. I think they'd have a
chance to win. Would it work here? There's no giant star.
That means you wouldn't have Luca or Lebron. Right, you
wouldn't have either one. You might be able to do
it and get through there once, but you certainly couldn't
go back to back. You couldn't sustain it. I don't

think you could sustain it because there would be too
many teams like you. You would have to you, you
would every game would be somewhat of a dog fighting
kind of close, you know what I mean. You go
in even you know most most most of the playoffs,
and against good teams, you go in even not necessarily

a favorite, So those games could go either way.

Like even with there being more of an emphasis on
team basketball. I mean, all the even the final four
teams that were left in the conference finals had a star.
You have Shae Yodos Alexander, you had Anthony Edwards, you
had Tyre's Halliburton, and you had Jalen Brunson.

Yeah, just not the ones we've been used to and
accustomed to over the year. Right.

So, but there's still start the idea of having a
deep roster of eight or nine guys who are all talented,
but none are a superstar. I think only gets you
so far. You still need to have a standout player,
even if it's just one. Maybe it's one instead of three.
But the super teams we've seen over the last fifteen years.
