Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's do it the Big Friday Show. Fred Rogan,
Rodney Pete on LA Sports three hours today. Jerry Harriston
Junior jumps on at one. He'll talk about the excitement
at the stadium last night. David Vassy will jump on
at two to continue that conversation. And before we get
into that part of it, there was other excitement, Rodney

(00:21):
at the stadium last night. Oh, plenty of fi You
were their stadium, Yes, I was, Freddy, Yes, I was
plenty of excitement, lots of fireworks before and after the game,
and during the game and all through the day. Yes,
Holly and I hosted Mookie Betts and Brianna's first annual

(00:42):
Juneteenth celebrity softball game and it was a lot of fun.
A lot of people showed up. Just run down some
of the names that were there. Fred Matt Barnes was there.
I think he was a hero of the game. At
the end he had a home run to win it
walked it off. Lil Wayne so, Victoria Money, treyo Owens,

(01:05):
James Loney there from the Dodgers. Our own lovely Monette Davis,
our good friend was there as well. So there are
a lot of people there friend and it was obviously
Juneteenth means a lot to a lot of people, especially
people of color. Fried and I think that people learned
about Juneteenth in the last few years, but it's just

(01:27):
a day in history in eighteen sixty five where everyone
was free, although there were a few people in Texas
that didn't know where they were free and for a
couple of years after the Mancipasing Proclamation. So that is
something that has been celebrated for years. And Juneteenth was
celebrated last night at Dodger Stadium before the game. I

(01:49):
would say we had it started a little bit earlier
because the game had to be a little rush, but
it was fantastic, all right. So let's go over a
few things first, Ewan Holly, So what exactly did you do?
Did you walk around? Did you talk to people? Did
you interview people during the game? Did you pinch it?
What did you got? All of the above? All of
the above. Didn't pinch it, did not pinch it. But

(02:09):
we walked around, introduced all the players that were playing.
We just gave some commentary during the game, and then uh,
you know, talk to a few people along the way.
Like I said, Matt Barnes hit a home run at
the end to win it. Now, wait a minute, did
he hit it out of the park? Hit it out? Oh?
Get out? Yeah? Yeah, hit it out. Now it was
makes your fence. Your fence was a little bit behind

(02:33):
behind the dirt that they brought in to make it
a home run. But uh, yeah, yeah he hit it out.
There was. He came down to the wire where they
said next next run wins and Matt Barnes came up
and he delivered friend all right. It was a lot
of fun and a lot of people showed up, so
it was really cool. How did Lizzo play? Little held

(02:54):
her own? I believe she made a very good catch
out in left field on somebody that hit the ball.
But she, uh, she was very athletic. Fred absolutely, and
then she sang the national anthem. Oh so it was
a double header for her. It was a double header
for her. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Absolutely lost a lot of weight too, by the way,
props to her.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, she looks really good, really good, she really does.
He looks really good. Almost didn't recognize her up close
when when I first saw her, but yeah, she, uh,
she lost a lot of weight, looks good, and she did.
She played a mean left field. All right, So what
time did the game start? Well, technically it was supposed
to start at five point thirty. We got started a

(03:33):
little bit late. There was there was a lot of
commotion going on at Dodge Stadium yesterday. They say, yeah,
we don't have to we don't have to get into that.
We're not a political show. But there was a lot
of commotion and and so we started a little bit late,
which made the game a little rushed because obviously there
was the main game that was happening after that's the

(03:53):
way had to clear the field. But they got you know,
about three innings in. I think that, you know, for
it being the first first celebrity game juneteenth game that
Mookie did, I thought it went off very well and
they'll continue to build on this. See. I don't understand
why they didn't hold the Dodger game until you know,
you guys had gone six innings. Yeah right, yeah, No,

(04:18):
that was never gonna happen, Fred, But I think they
wanted to do it obviously because it's right for a game,
and Mookie's playing in the game that they had to
make it very convenient for him. Also, I thought I
think they wanted to put it as close to the
start of the Dodger game as possible because they wanted
to also have a little bit of a crowd into
the into Dodger Stadium, and there was other people got

(04:40):
there early and the ones that did got to see
the softball game. All right, let's go to Spotlight on Blue.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
On Blue was presented by Spotlight twenty nine Casino.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Eric Dickerson's favorite spot in the Coachella Valley, spot Light

Speaker 3 (04:59):

the opening of Spotlight twenty nine. So telling resort an
elevated experience that will define luxury.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
In Coachella Coachella Valley best.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Be Spotlight twenty nine dot com.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
All right, So as for the main event, now, some
would argue that Mookie's game was the main event, but
there was a game that follow that and that was
the end of the Dodgers and Padre's four games series.
San Diego finally broke through. So the Dodgers took that
series three games to one. Uh, and I guess it
had somewhat of an appropriate ending, and given how chippy

(05:35):
it was in the first three Rodney last night, things
simply exploded. Yeah, yeah, it was. You could feel it
coming on, Fred, You could really feel it coming on. Look,
the Dodgers took the first three games in this series,
and we're looking to sweep, and I think San Diego
is feeling a certain way, and it got chippy. I

(05:55):
think he got chippy, you know, you know, initially started
getting chippy when they played about a week and a
half ago down in San Diego. That's kind of where
it started. And they really didn't have time to get
over that series and they're back here playing another series
against the Dodger. So I think that lingered over for
the Padres, and it was. It was unfortunate because when

(06:16):
you start hitting guys, and obviously it was not one
of those Oh I just brought it a little bit inside.
Oh I just missed with that pitch. A couple of
those were intentional, Fred, They were intentional, and it wasn't
they It just got away from somebody. But when you
start hitting superstars. We talked about this the other day,

(06:38):
when you start hitting superstars, then it becomes a real
problem and all bets are off. You know, you hit
my star and hit your star and they hit the
biggest one twice and Otani so yeah, and then they
got into it. Dave Roberts came out storming out. I mean,

(06:59):
in the last week, have you seen Dave Roberts get
this Matt ever, No, I've never seen him out of
the duck out like this ever. Now he's been upset
and so Tatoos when he got hit late in the game.
The Dodgers had a kid pitching first major league appearance,
just trying to get his feet on the ground. David
already taken out the starters. He pretty much conceded this,

(07:21):
in other words, if we win, we win, but I'm
not going to leave anybody out there to get hurt.
And uh so he hits Tatose, all right, Well, that
brought everybody out. The next thing, you know, Otani gets
it on a three to zero pitch. He didn't miss.
He hit him. Here read the end. He hit it.
And Otani though, once he got hit. And it was

(07:43):
funny when Tatis got hit, everybody came out. When Otani
got hit, he just put up his hand and said,
don't come out here, he told the Dodgers. Then he
looked at the Padres and everybody listened to him. It's
like he was the guy if I say don't come
out here, don't come out here, because he is the Otani.
So when he said stay, everybody stayed, luckily. And I

(08:04):
have not heard the results on the tattoos uh x ray.
I don't think anybody really got hurt. Andy Pie has
looked like a pinata at the end of it. I
mean he had been hit so many times in that series.
I'm sure he has covered with welts. Otani got it
a couple of times as well, and after Tatis got
it Rodney, I think everybody had had enough. So we

(08:26):
have sound from Mike Schildt, the manager of the Padres,
and Dave Roberts. Now, when that occurred the tattoos moment,
Shilt and Roberts basically got into it. And now let's
listen to the sound from both of them. And this
is Mike Shilt first.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Did you think the.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Pitch was intentional to hit Tattiste tonight?

Speaker 5 (08:47):
And that's possible.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
If Tod think not, But I can't say that. Only
a couple of people know that. And whether it was
or it wasn't, enough is enough. You know, we got
a guy that's getting X rays right now. It's one
of the best players in the game, of course, on
our team. And this guy's get has taken shots, okay,

(09:10):
and before this series, you know we hadn't we And
I can back this up with complete evidence. You know,
track records speak for themselves. The teams that I managed
don't get into altercation like this because teams I'm managed
don't throw a people. But also teams I managed.

Speaker 7 (09:26):
Don't take anything.

Speaker 6 (09:27):
And after a while, I'm not gonna take it, and
I'm not gonna take it on behalf of Toddy. I'm
not gonna take it on behalf of our team. Intentional
aren't intentional? Truly, that's simple. That's how this game's played.
And you want to call that old school, then yeah,
we'll play old school.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Baseball, all right. So that was my show. He's not
gonna take it little old school baseball. That's how he's
gonna play. Did he say my guys don't throw it
other guys? Twenty seven?

Speaker 2 (09:50):
My teams do not throw at other guys, is what
he says.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
It's quote, yeah, my team. So, especially the first time
time he got hit in the thigh, that was clearly
clearly he threw at him. Clearly, that was, without questioning,
he threw at him. So first of all, that was
disingenuous and a lie, because certainly he threw at him.

(10:15):
I don't think anybody in the ballpark or evenybody watching
thought that that was an accident or the ball just
got away from him. No, he almost he almost do
it behind him.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Well, he tried to hit him the first time, that's
the evidence of it. He tried to come inside, he
actually missed, and then he tried and then he hit
him again.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
So that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
He tried to hit him, missed him, and then the
very next pitch he did hit him. Anybody, I was clear.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
As day, clear, very clear, very clear. All right. So
that's what Mike Schild had to say. Here's what Dave
Roberts had to say. You know, the way I see it.

Speaker 7 (10:49):
The way I saw it was Jack Little was making
his major league debut, and he's trying to get through
the outing and we're trying to get him to finish
the game.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
And obviously the.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
Armside miss to Iglesias walks him, walks in a run,
and then he hits Tatis with an armside fastball. Obviously,
I think anyone knows there is no intent, and so
and I think even you know, Mike speaking the other
day talking about intent versus no intent, and so I
think they did anyone understand that there was no intent there.

(11:24):
And even by my reaction, I didn't feel good about Tatis,
a great player, good guy, getting hit.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I didn't feel good about it.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
And so as he comes out and he's yelling at
me and staring me down, that bothers me because, to
be quite frank, that's the last thing I wanted. I'm
taking starters out of the game and you know, trying
to you know, get this game over and get this

(11:57):
kid a couple of innings. And so that's why I
felt I took that personal because I understand the game
and and know that I understand it doesn't feel good
to get hit, but understand again intent versus clearly no intent.
Oh absolutely, yeah, absolutely, I mean there's three and oh

(12:18):
and again, this is a right handed pitcher going across
court to hit show up, up and end that. That's
a hard throw. And I don't know how many left
hand hitters swore as his hit with the fastball, but
clearly there was intent behind it.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
That's accurate. There was intent behind it. Clearly clearly that
the last one by Little in the ninth that hit
Tattoos on the on the on the wrist, I actually
don't think that was intentional. However, there might have been
one that Tattists took a lot. Tattoos took I think

(12:59):
three of them in the series, either three of them
in this series or three of them total in the
in the seven games that they played each other. He
took three. One of those was there was some intent
behind it. I think there was one of them I
think hit him in the back and it was really
really wide and obvious. But the other one, especially the

(13:20):
one at the end of the game, certainly certainly was
not intentional for a young rookie to come in and
games pretty much over. They pulled the guys and why
are we going to hit you in that spot? So
here's the thing. If you don't think think what do
I think? Yeah? You think? Oh, I think they I
think everybody threw at each other. I don't think Little

(13:42):
intentionally hit Tattoos, but I think throughout the series guys
took out for their team. Let's just put it like that. Yeah,
I think both sides. I think both sides. I think
they reacted to Piez getting hit earlier, and probably he was.
He's the one that started this whole thing. I think
he overreacted because I don't think the first one that

(14:03):
hit him was intentional. To be honest with you, I
don't think that was intentional. He seemed to think it was.
He did the stare down, so that's kind of where
it started, and then it just escalated from there. Yeah,
to me, it confirms one thing. This is real, and
the teams don't like each other, and you talk about
a rivalry and it's funny before the series began, is

(14:24):
it a rivalry and it's not a rivalry, and that's
what everybody does when they get together. I can assure
you now this is very real. And I can also
assure you of this. When you step between the white lines, Rodney,
you understand, because you played, you know you'll do anything
to win. At that point, those guys on the other
side aren't your friends. Your objective is to beat them. Now,

(14:46):
I can tell you, at least from my perspective, the
reality is the Dodgers just don't like them, and the
Padres certainly don't like the Dodgers. This is more than
once we get between those lines, you know we're going
all out. No, they just don't like each other. The
two teams don't like each other. And I get it.
I mean, you talk about the hype leading into their series,

(15:07):
you talk about what happened last year and how close
it was, and the Padres were the second best team.
And now you see this, you know they're not fooling around.
And to all of us that watch, it's a game
at its entertainment and that's why we watch it. To
these guys, it is personal now, and that's the sense
I get. It has become personal. This is more than

(15:30):
a game. When they get together. They truly don't like
each other. Do you think it's the same as the
as the Giants or is it more more intense with
the Padres right now? Oh my god, it's way there
to two to be compared to two rivals, or even
over time, there is period of time that the Giants

(15:53):
and the Dodgers it got pretty heated from time to time,
so so much so that it carried over into the
stands often times with the Giants and the Dodgers, whether
that be up here, down here, or up there. But yeah,
at this moment in time. It is definitely more heated
with the Padres than the Giants. That's not even closed. Yeah,

(16:14):
I mean, I understand the Dodgers and Giants longtime bitter rivals.
They've had the battles in the past. This is an
entirely different story. I mean, these are two teams that
most considered going in very evenly matched. And if the
Padres had not hit a rough patch, and as a
matter of fact, this series against the Dodgers really knocked
the Padres back because reverse it. What if the Padres

(16:37):
had won all the games, it would have been a
different story. I mean, the Dodgers took what five of
seven from them four of six, they won five of
seven games. Imagine if the roles had been reversed, where
would the Dodgers be right now? So I think this
is very real, very intense. I think it become personal,

(17:01):
and I don't think it gets any better the next
time they meet, and it goes over six times near
the end of the season, it does not get better.
In fact, it's probably gonna get worse. But I would imagine,
because I think both these managers are are hardcore care
about their players, players like their managers. I think the

(17:23):
players like him down there as much as the Dodgers
like Dave Roberts. They would probably they will probably have
some sort of conversation or meeting, whether it be you know,
the two managers or the two leaders or a couple
of leaders on the team. Mookie gets involved, Freddie gets involved,
and maybe you know, some guys from that side get involved.

(17:43):
But I would imagine that they might have some conversations
leaning up to it, Fred. But it's gonna be uh,
it's gonna be crazy. But even with that, and the
Dodgers taken five of seven, Santy is still only what
five games out right from the Dodgers, So it's still
going to be a race all the way through. Oh,
I agree. I think Jonas was on yesterday he thought

(18:06):
we overspoke and said, well, the Padres are going to
be right there. I never thought the Giants would, that's me,
but I thought, no, the Padres will be right there.
And I said, you know, there are ebbs and flows
in a season, and San Diego is on the downside
right now. Doesn't mean they don't come back this The
thing is not over. You know, they're not going to
just lay down. But I really think in this series,

(18:29):
both teams tried to assert or impose their will, and
what both teams tried to say to the other one
is we're not taking your crap. We're just not taking it.
You know, we're not putting up with it. Now, the
Dodgers came out ahead, which makes it even sweeter, but
we're not taking it. I think this is very real now.

(18:52):
I think this is probably as bitter a rivalry as
there is in baseball right now. Oh yeah, oh yeah.
I can't even think yeah better, more better than Yankees,
Red Sox or anyone you can think out there. This
one has gotten. It's really gotten ugly. I was thinking

(19:12):
this last night when after the game. Imagine, imagine if
o Tani did the opposite Fred. He didn't wave off
everybody and say, hey, no, stay in the dugout, stay
in the dug out. Let's not make this thing worse.
Imagine he did the opposite and walk towards the mound
till let's go, oh no, you hit me intentionally for

(19:33):
the second time, it's time to go. Imagine if he
instigated that, said no, I'm not gonna take that, and
did the opposite of what he did. He talked about
both benches clearing. It would have been a race to
the picture's mound from both sides. It would have been nuclear.
It would have been a nuclear blast. And then at

(19:56):
that point, I don't think anybody would have been holding
any punches back. I think that would have got real.
In this altercation. There was a lot of pushing and shoving,
you know, sort of the typical get out there defender turf,
but nobody really got into it. Yeah, if Otani had
walked to the mound, then then it would have been
all bets are off. It would have been as ugly

(20:19):
as that brawl it was. I can't remember how many
years ago it was with the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers.
Do you remember that? Oh yeah, yeah, that was That
lasted a little bit too. Oh that was all over
the camp. What was that that was? Oh yeah, it came.
It went from yeah, dug out, the dugout, the behind
a plate out in the field. It was. It was wild.

(20:43):
It was wild. I remember who was it. Bryce Harper
gotten a couple of those wild ones as well when
they threw at him early on in his career. Huh, yeah,
we've seen some wild ones. But yeah, like I said
it was just a lot of yelling and shouting, but no,
no real physical altercations in this one. I think it

(21:03):
keeps going, which is why I mentioned I think that
they're gonna have conversations because that is the next step.
The next step is there will be punches thrown and
will be full out brawl if they don't nip it
in the bud right now. All right, So, Dodger fans,
let me ask you a question. How much do you
hate the Padres right now? And how real do you
think this rivalry is? Ronnie hit that close?

you say We'll open the phone lines early today. I
like to do that, Fred. Let's hear what the Dodger
fans want to say. It's like six nine eighty seven,
two five seventy. So, now, is this a real rivalry

(22:00):
and how much do you hate the Podres? Let's hear
from you.

Speaker 3 (22:03):

Speaker 1 (22:28):
No, we don't. It is a Friday, Roddy Pete fred
Rogan coming at you, and we absolutely positively don't care.
And apparently Dodgers and Fadres didn't care last night either.
They were going at it. I loved every minute of it, Freddy. Absolutely,
if you're a Dodger fan, you loved every second of it.

(22:51):
Not so sure the Podre fans enjoyed it that much. Okay,
so here's the deal. Now, can we agree this rivalry
is very real? These two teams don't like each other,
and more importantly, do you hate the Padres? That's the question.
All right, Carlos and Glendora.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
Carlos, go ahead, Hey, Freddie Rodney, how you guys doing today?

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Good? All right?

Speaker 8 (23:15):
Yeah, you know what, I know, it's always kind of
been a rivalry that I've been watching the Dodgers since
I was, you know, in the sixties, and now I
think it's becoming a real rivalry because that pitch that
he threw at o'tani, if that would have got away,
if it was a you know, a lost pitch.

Speaker 9 (23:35):
He would have hit him in the head.

Speaker 8 (23:37):
But you can tell he was aiming where he was aiming.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
All right, I appreciate it, Thanks Card absolutely. You know,
which is crazy because pitchers know this, and most people
know this. There's a there's a rule when you're throwing
at somebody, you don't throw at the head. You don't
throw above the shoulders. You try to hit them low
on the lower extremities if you can. And certainly, like
you mentioned that, that pitch, what had a purpose to it, No,

(24:05):
no question about it. There wasn't any The count is
three and oh, yeah, the count is three and all yeah, yeah,
three and oh and they hit him an open bas
so just put him on right. Why are you trying
to be so fine at three and oh? If you're
really trying to trying to get him out, he threw

(24:29):
you throw it right down the middle. If you're really
trying to go, you know, strike him out or get
back into the count it. Ball doesn't end up two
feet inside Rodney. He threw the ball right at him.
When you saw the replay, he just threw it right
at him. There wasn't a question about where he was
trying to throw it. Yeah, and it wasn't like his

(24:51):
reaction was Okay, I did my job right. Then he
just walked off the mound. Yeah, he knew what happened.
Let's go to Irvine. Ryan, appreciate your holding. What do
you think?

Speaker 10 (25:02):
Oh man, this is such a rivalry And for me,
it goes back though to twenty twenty two Dodgers dominating
best record around and the Padres just punked us in
the playoffs and it was so painful because it's like,
I know we're more talented, but they got under our
skin and just found a way to win. And that's
what made it even worse, is when they're coming at you,

(25:24):
talking trash and getting under your skin and then they
beat you. That's painful. And so I'm super excited to
see they're the same old Padres. They're trying to get
under people's skin and play dirty. But we not only
were like, okay, you're not gonna punk us anymore, but
we're going to take you out. In the series, We're
going to show you that we're stronger and you're not
going to get to us. I have to say, though,
you guys like, I don't know what it is. I

(25:45):
don't know him personally. Mike Schmidt, he just bugs me.
I would give good money for Dave Roberts to just
knock him out, dude, that'd be amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
Thanks guys, all right, sure, I don't know what Michael
Jack Schmid did to you, but it's all right.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Yeah. Sill does have that look though, right, he has
that look like he's the not quite to get off
my line guy, but just that crotchety, just mad all
the time kind of cat. That's so funny with Dave
Roberts to knock him out. Dave Roberts looked like he's
about to kill somebody. He was upset. It takes a

(26:19):
lot to give Dave upset like that man he was,
he was ready to go. I think at one time
did he say meet me in the locker room, or
meet me back totage or meet me somewhere we'll talk.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
We'll talk after the Yeah, they were holding them back
when the whole freakas was going on behind home plate,
and David was like, we'll talk after the game, you
and me. It wasn't like a little call, kay, let's
call him down.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
We'll talk about this. It was like, I got something
for you. Yeah, I caught that too. We'll talk after
the game, you and me. I don't think i'd mess
with Dave. To be honest with you, They've got a
little something for you. Yeah, it's quiet ones, the mild
manner ones that you don't know what they got you better,
You better watch out. David put you in a real

(26:59):
naked choke. It like, where'd you get this from? He
kicked me from the side. I don't know where it
came from. Well, And the thing is, it was kind
of like, at least observing it and now hearing everything,
it's like, don't step to me. Don't don't, don't make
that mistake. I don't know what you think you're doing.

(27:20):
You can do whatever you want, but I don't. Don't
do that. That is bad. Don't don't question my integrity. Right,
That's exactly what it was. Don't question my integrity, he said.
He looked at me, I was chirping at me, looking
directly eyeballing me, and hear what Dave said after that,
and when I saw that that bothered me, That bothered me.

(27:45):
He was unnerves like he was in The Godfathers. That
bothered me. That bothered me. Michael and Irvine. Okay, Michael,
you think the rivalry is more intense now?

Speaker 11 (27:58):
Absolutely. I can't agree with Bill off Color more and
uh yeah, I would pay big bucks to see Dave Robertson,
the irrelevant manager of the Padres.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Go at it.

Speaker 11 (28:07):
But yeah, absolutely, I mean the rivalry is is real.
It's I mean, in carry into your answer your question,
you know we all hate the Padres. I think every
Dodger bank in the test going back to you know,
two thousand and two and even beyond that, and this
year series just showed it. I mean it was electric.
I was at Game three when Will Smith hit the
walk off, and I think this series just proved it.

Speaker 9 (28:30):
And you know kind of uh, you know, put a
put a pin in it that you know.

Speaker 11 (28:33):
The Padres just know the Dodgers are superior at this point,
so they're just poking, poking the bear and you know,
thrown out Otani at the end of the game three. Oh,
like you guys are saying it's just bush league, and yeah,
the hatred is there and it's real. The rivalry is
real and it's exciting.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
I love it.

Speaker 11 (28:50):
But you know, don't try to don't throw it at
Twnny twice.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
No, thanks, Michael, I appreciate that. Do not throw at
he's now known as the Otani. Do not do that.
Don't make that mistake. You're right. If he had charged
the Mount Rodney, all bets are off. I think people
that came out of the stands gave us the green light. Oh,
TONI gave us the green light to go. Whoop some ass,

(29:14):
let me go. They were ready. They were ready rogers
like thank god. He just he diffused the situation because
he did right away. He put his arm up and said,
oh you dare come out of that dugout? All right? Chris,
Chris in La Chris. You think this is real? Now? Right?

Speaker 12 (29:32):
Absolutely, it's real, especially with you know, more historic with
the with the giants both coming from New York, but
with profar and to teeth and then a Chadle throwing
the ball towards the dugout last year. You know, it's
definitely more immediate now of a rivalry with the Potteries.
But let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
We give me a second.

Speaker 12 (29:50):
I want to set this up for you. I think
the Dodgers should have responded to a Tany getting hit,
even though it was commendable that O'tani said, no, don't
worry about you know, that's very consistent with Asian ballplayers.
But sometimes the bigger picture has to be made. And
I think it's like if your kid comes home and
he had a prominent school, but everything is fine. It's like, no, nope,

(30:14):
I need to go to school and make sure they
know this isn't acceptable. I think the Dodgers at least
should have come out to dug out a little bit
or something to tell the Padres. Even though Otani thinks
this is all right, we don't think this is all right.

Speaker 9 (30:27):
So that was my little you know.

Speaker 12 (30:29):
I understood why he did it and why they didn't
come out, but I thought it would have been better
to let the Padres know this is still us in charge,
not you, no matter who you hit, and even if
they don't want you to uh, even if they don't
want us to retaliate.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Yeah, I have to tell you. I hear what you're saying. Thanks, Chris,
appreciate the call. When Otani said, everybody, stay put. He's
a leader. He's telling everybody, I don't want this to escalate.
And at that point, I don't think they come charging
out after he said stay put, you know, then he
turns around and it's like he's he's swept under his

(31:07):
own guy's charging the mound. So I think they have
enough respect for him. Roddie, Does that make sense for Otani? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
but I get I get what he said. I get
what the caller just said in a sense that, you know,
it kind of reminds me of that that Christopher Walking

(31:32):
line in the movie. I think it was pool hauled
Junkies or something like that. It was one of them,
kind of obscure in the indie films. But he's talking
to the little protege, a cat, and he's telling a
story about the lion who's so tired and so hot,
and he's sitting there and laying there, and the little
lion cubs start messing with him, biting them and teasing him.
And then the next thing, you know, all the other

(31:53):
animals are watching this and the lion's not doing anything
about it, and so here come the jack Here come
the hyenas. They are all and they're laughing at him,
spitting on him, doing he doesn't do anything. Then finally
that lion gets up and tears that up out of
each and every one of them, eating everything in his path.

(32:14):
He said, because every now and then the lion has
to show the jackals who he is. And so he
might be right that. Okay, you think I'm mild mannered,
but there's going to come a time where de Otani

(32:35):
comes out and sometimes you might have to show that.
Fritt Johnny in West La. You think the intensity is
ratched up.

Speaker 13 (32:45):
Oh, you bet it has. And a couple of things.
You guys got a jet we got to put out there.
Tattiez crowds the plate. So it's no wonder he's getting
burned in the hand. And maybe his alleged prior toed
use gave him enough strength in that hand to uh injury.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
No, Johnny, No, no, no, don't do that. Don't do that.
Don't don't go there. And by the way, if you
want my true opinion, I think they hit him too,
to be honest with you, not not little, not last night,
and then in he ate Little, but he got hit
in the back one time. That yeah, he got Heffley.

(33:23):
Come on, all right, Kahala in Huntington Beach. Now you
think this is still not even a rivalry?

Speaker 8 (33:30):
Hell no, the Padres have never won a thing.

Speaker 9 (33:34):
None of the San Diego teams have won anything, nor
will they do.

Speaker 14 (33:39):
Dodgers have.

Speaker 15 (33:40):
I don't know how many championships they have, but they
have a lot.

Speaker 14 (33:43):
The Padres have never.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Won a thing.

Speaker 15 (33:46):
Fred nothing, I know.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
But can't you freak Kahala, can't you opinion? When you
see this kind of intensity and this kind of basic hatred.
There's something extra here. It's not like they're playing the
Kansas City Royals. It wouldn't be this way against Pittsburgh.
It's not even this way or Colorado or Texas. It's

(34:10):
not this way against Saint Louis. This is different. This
means a little more to these guys, because I really believe, Kahala.
They don't like each other.

Speaker 15 (34:21):
I get it, they don't like each other. I will
give me out one hundred. But a rivalry, the Padre's
gotta win something, man.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
Okay, thanks, Khala, really appreciate it. Well you think about it? Yeah, Okay,
they have won a World Series in forever, but they
have been a perennial thorn in the Dodger's side in
terms of the team that competes with them. They played
them in the playoffs. What three of the last four
years they played them and one year they beat them

(34:55):
in the playoffs. So I agree, you got to be good.
You can't have a ivalry where one side is always
winning and the other was not. But these guys are
pretty good, all right, Andy, Randy, Ben and Mark. We
see us sitting there, hanng Tight, Hank Tight. We want
everybody to talk, so we'll get you on the other side.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
Make AM five seventy LA Sports a preset before you
plug in your phone. Presets in the iHeartRadio app now
available with Apple car Play and Android autom Just another
easy way to listen to LA's best sports talk.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
And then come here. Oh yes, you know, we have
to bring my man on. After seeing them hit the
ball yesterday at Mookie Betts Celebrity juneteenth softball game, Today's
afternoon delight is Sharks by a Little On. This song

(35:53):
is one of twenty one tracks that appears on a
forty two year old's new album entitled The Carter Six,
which dropped last week. The album features an eclectic mix
of artists that includes the likes of Bono, two Chains, Andrea,
Both Chilly and Why Cliff John and Tab Country starred
Jelly Roll and star rapper Big Sean as feature artist

(36:17):
on this particular track again. Today's afternoon delight is Sharks
by Lil Wayne featuring Jelly Roll and Big Sean. Thought, Rodney,
let's finish up the calls people on hold. The question
was is this a rivalry and how much do you
hate the Padres. I mean, that's really the issue here,
So let's just get through everybody after the top of

(36:39):
the hour break. Jerry Harriston Junior, who played the game.
Obviously he knows intent and he knows what's an accident.
He'll come on and talk about the fireworks out at
the stadium. Andy and Laberne, we appreciate you holding. What
do you think Do you think Padre fans are of noxious?
Is that what you think? Andy?

Speaker 16 (36:57):
I absolutely hate the Padres. So I moved to LA
in two thousand and nine from Buffalo, didn't have an
MLB team obviously latched down to the Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
So it's been an.

Speaker 16 (37:08):
Interesting fifteen or so years for me to see this
robbery and I gotta say, I'm forty one. I watched
Tom Brady destroy the Bills for twenty years of my life.
I've watched Mahomes eliminate the Bills the last four seasons
from the playoffs. I respect Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
I don't hate them.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
I respect them Padres fans they are so they are
just clowns. They are disgusting, dirty, sad, pathetic clowns.

Speaker 16 (37:37):
There is no respect coming from them to the Dodgers
in any way, shape or form, and how badly we
just freaking own that franchise and that's not changing. And
I actually agree with the other caller who said that
I kind of wished for a response that they had cleared.
I know Otani waved them down. I know you guys
kind of shot down why they respect Otani, But I

(37:59):
gotta throw the out there. This time last summer, we
were talking about how soft the Dodgers were booky with
this Fedora Freddy laughing with the guys on first Base.

Speaker 9 (38:09):
I'm kind of not seeing that as much this year.

Speaker 16 (38:12):
And I feel like they've flipped the narrative a bit
with this series on that, and I just wish I
would have seen a little more, a little more anger.
But I like words heading. I hate the Padres total
call stand base Uh they've got nothing to show for it.
One World Series of Okay.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
All right, all right, Andy, thank you, that's good. Go ahead, Andy.
I hear you, but I hear Andy just started to
spin himself into it. I love it, all right, Randy riverside,
what do you think you think this is good for baseball?
I love it.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
I love it for I love it, Rodney. Every every
villain needs to have every supera needs to have a villain.
So you know, Batman has got Jokers, Superman has got
Les Lucor. The Dodgers got the Padres. And I have
respect what the Padres are doing. They believe in their team.
They're spending money, they're trying to be they're trying to
get the big dom, and I think it's great. It's

(39:05):
nice to be able to look in at your ear
and know that somebody is gonna keep you accountable.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
All right, Thanks. I like the way, and we're very
well said Ben and NoHo, Ben, you don't think this
is a rivalry.

Speaker 9 (39:19):
No, no, I do not believe this is a rivalry.
You look at Ali Frasier. That that is the sports rivalry,
the Hatfields and McCoy's. That's a classic rivalry, the Padres.
They are not the Dodgers rivalry. It's like some guy
that marries your great aunt and then he wants to
be called pop Pop at Thanksgiving. It's not how that works.

(39:40):
It's not how any of it works. Right now, San
Diego is a good tea.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
They are good.

Speaker 9 (39:46):
I'm not gonna pretend like they're not. But they are
not part of this family. They are not in the
rivalry tree that is reserved for Dodgers Giants. That's blood right.
They show up with the bluetooth in his ear and
he starts handing out business cards at the holiday.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Goodbye. It's pretty good to go. He was ready to go.
I love it. Listen the thing on the thing on
the thing on on on rivalries though it's it's not
limited to one team, right you can there there's there's
there's different levels to this. You can have multiple rivals. Yeah,

(40:23):
the Giants are the main rival of the Dodgers, but
you can have multiple ones that that brew uh for
for a period of time, you know that are many
rivals or or or something like that. But you can
have multiple ones. I mean we did that, Like we
talked about this before. We are rivals with both U. C.

(40:44):
L A And Notre Dame at USC, both of those schools.
There's a bitter hate that we have for both of
those universities when we play them and when we don't
play them. So you can have multiple rivals. And I
get people saying, well, this is traditionally, want to say
that it's only the giants. Now you can have multipoints.
All right, what more mark you've been holding?

Speaker 14 (41:05):
Go ahead, Hey, guys, love your show. I'll kudos on
everybody what everybody said. But you guys are missing one point.
I think the referees, the umpires are throwing gas lean
on the fire when they threw Roberts out the other
night for no reason at all. And I don't know
if you were watching the entire game, but Yumoto struck

(41:26):
out two guys, and he did it on six pitches.
Then he had seven and eight strikes, and then the
guy then the Motto threw one right down the middle
of the plate, and I mean Stevie Wonder could have
seen that it was a strike, and I think that
was just casting the umpire group. That group was throwing
gasoline on the fire, and I knew something was going
to happen because the aga everybody was getting kicked off.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
All right, appreciate it, Mark, Thanks, said the umpire's gotta
threw gas on it, Frett. They missed some calls and
allowed some things to go on that they probably shouldn't. Well,
they tried threw when they threw Dave Roberts out the
other night, and and and to me it was Dave
had a legitimate argument. I forget who got I forget

(42:12):
who got hit. But they they came out and padres
hit our guy and the umpires of your boy Trip
Gibson came out and warned both teams. Instead of just
you know, warning the padres, he warned both teams. And
that's what pissed Dave off. It's like he just threw

(42:33):
it our guy. He threw it our guy. Why are you?
Why are you giving us a warning? Give them a warning,
don't give us a war, don't lump us in with that.
And that pissed him off. And then he wasn't even
able to talk about it or explain himself, which made
it worse. But I agreed to a little bit to
a certain extent that the umpires it really didn't do
a great job in this series.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
To last night that Marvin Hudson, Marvin who shouldn't be Marvin?
According to Fred exactly basically the fastball literally right down
the middle of the plate. It would have been an
immaculate inning for Yamamoto and just let it go by
and call it a ball. I don't know how in
what universe that's the ball.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
I have no idea that because it was terrible because
he's going through an identity crisis. He's got the wrong name.
That is that what it is? Right? Yeah, there are
moments where he just kind of blanks out and goes,
who am I? Because I don't look like Marvin Hudson.
That's what happened. He had one of those moments. Watch
him all year. You'll see him happen. You just kind
of blank out. You'll change, You think you'll evolve, right,

(43:33):
Marvin Hudson? Do I think Marvin Hudson will evolve or
change his name? Really figure out who he is? Is
what I'm saying. I mean if his name was Ben Lincoln,
it'd be one thing, right, you know. Steve Pasternak I
mean anything, but Marvin Hudson. That guy doesn't look like
Marvin Hudson. Pastor Knack. Where did you pull that one from?

(43:53):
I have no idea. And here's the thing. I'll tell you,
Padres and Dodgers. Well, we know they really don't like
each other. We know it's now personal. I'll tell you
who's really happy to be the hell out of here.
It's that umpiring crew. Oh yeah, they are thrilled that
that series is over and they are off somewhere else

(44:13):
because I mean, they got dinged big time in that series.
And you know, unfortunately for them, it was four games,
so everybody got to watch their handiwork four times. What
do you think their evaluation looks like? They evaluate They
all get evaluated after every series, I believe after every game.
I think they get evaluations going on. What do you

(44:34):
think that evaluation looks like after this series? Well, I
think Trip Gibson will come out okay, because when he
threw Dave Roberts out, he'll say, hey, you can't even
question that. So I had to run them. Yeah, but
it wasn't even your job. You shouldn't have been the
guy to do it. But that's okay, he had to go,
and I was the closest one to him, so I
just ran him. So I think he'll come out Okay,

(44:54):
I think for game control overall or series control or
out thereof or like thereof, I think they'll get a
b because they'll make the argument, well, my god, this
thing could have been a full scale war. Look at
what a great job we did keeping it the way
it was. If it wasn't for us, all hell would
have broken clues. So that's how they'll position it. Yeah, yeah,

(45:17):
it would have been multiple brawls if we didn't handle
it the way we handled it. That's yeah, you're right. Yeah,
it's like, you guys are lucky we worked this series. Okay,
up next to the man who's probably been in a
brawl or two in his life, Jerry Harrison Junior joins

(45:37):
the show.
