(00:01):
All right, Fred Rogan Rodney Peteon a five to seventy LA Sports but
two hours show for US today. And now I'm gonna tell you this story
about my weekend. Because you hada relaxing weekend. You'll watch some Olympic
trials, Yeah, saw some baseball, Yeah, you hung out? All
right, let me tell you aboutmy weekend. I think people that listen
to the show, and if theyknow, they know. Now I'm back

(00:23):
and forth. You know, I'min Los Angeles some of the time doing
the show. I'm doing the showevery day. It's just where am I
doing it from? Uh, AndI'm in LA and I do it there.
But I'm also doing this TV showout here in the Coachella Valley.
The station's in Palm Desert, butthe market is Palm Springs. And it's
a new approach to local news. And by the way, it's working.
And I'm thankful to everybody here thatis helping me try to recreate this model.

(00:48):
All right, so you say, what do you do this weekend?
Now, I grew up in Phoenix, Rodney. You're an Arizona guy,
so you understand the heat. Yes, I do you get the heat?
So do I We're from Arizona. We know absolutely, And people say,
you know, it's gonna be hotout here. I said, what are
you talking about? My god,I grew up in Phoenix. I should

(01:11):
have said, Rodney grew up inTucson. We know heat. You want
to talk heat, we get theheat, all right. So let me
tell you about the heat, whichI did not understand. And maybe it's
been too many years since I wasin it all the time. Yes,
first, it's like one hundred andfourteen. Now you go, well,
it's a dry heat, so what'sit's not a humid? And of course

(01:33):
I'm an Arizona guy. I walkoutside yesterday morning. It is nine o'clock
in the morning, nine o'clock inthe morning. It's like ninety five at
nine o'clock in the morning, andI'm thinking, you know what, I'm
gonna get a little walk in here, go a little exercise, for it
really heats up. It's only ninetyfive. Hell, I cant navigate that.

(01:57):
I'm outside for twenty minutes. I'vegot water and I'm just going on
a little walk. I'm outside fortwenty minutes. I walked back in the
house. I was in a zombiestate. Till about four in the afternoon.
They thought I'd suffered a stroke.I couldn't talk. I couldn't even
speak. I just sat in oneplace for hours, drank water and stared.

(02:23):
I couldn't process anything. I wasuncommunicative because I had walked around in
the heat for twenty minutes, rightwhen it was only ninety five. Yeah,
and I don't think I got ninetyfive turned one hundred and five in
that twenty minutes. It got toone hundred. Yeah. But here's the
thing, and you grew up inthe heat, and so did I.

(02:46):
Did the heat ever affect you likethat when you were younger? It did
not affect me like that. Never, never fret. I tell people all
the time, and that whole notionis a dry heat. That's that's for
another another discussion. One hundred andten. Dry heat is hot. It's
like opening up and up and allright, So give me the Yeah,
I prefer the dry heat over theone hundred degree and ninety five percent humidity,

(03:08):
Yes, I do. But justbecause it's dry doesn't mean it's any
less hot. I remember playing littleleague baseball in the summer in July and
August, and we would have noongames noon, and then that would be

(03:29):
the end, and then the nightgames that started like five thirty six o'clock.
Then they'd start up again. Butthe last game was a was a
I think it was eleven o'clock ornoon game. It wouldn't be over to
about twelve thirty at one o'clock atleast, so you were playing in the
hot hot hots. But no,you didn't think anything of it afterwards because
everybody had pools, you know, and and and you didn't think about it.

(03:52):
I go back now, like Isee my dad on a regular basis,
I go back to Phoenix, andI can't go outside. I can't.
I can't go outside. I literallyI do this. I gotta go
somewhere. I'll make sure I leaveearly enough that i'll go. I'll give
it ten minutes. I'll run out, start the car, turning the air

(04:15):
conditioning on, run back in thehouse for a while, make sure I
give it enough time to get coolin the car, and then run it
out and get in the car. It's a double trip. I don't know
how people do it. I don'tknow how they do it. So it
affects you too, yes, yes, yes, I mean I haven't been
in the Comoto State yet like likeyou but man, yeah, yeah,

(04:39):
I mean I definitely. You feellike it's drained so much out of your
body in a short period of time, like you had no energy. And
I had no idea it would bethat way. And that's what was so
bizarre about it. It was reallybizarre. And it took me from nine
to about three or four in theafternoon wake up, and I kept drinking

(05:01):
water. Maybe I should have hadelectrolyts. I don't know, but it's
bad. The heat is bad.And I walked in here today and I
told Bob McCauley, who runs theplace. Great guy, great guy.
I said, Oh my god,I could not believe what happened this weekend.
He goes, Oh, you'll figureit out, don't you worry.
He goes, you got to getout of here. One weekend a month

(05:23):
minimum. You've got to go.You can't be here. You have to
go. You go get some breeze, Go get some motion breeze. Yeah.
He goes to Manhattan Beach. Hehas a house there. He goes,
my wife and we go, wecan't be here every single day in
the summer. He said, youhave to wear a hat that is so
big. I mean, I weara baseball cap. He goes, don't

(05:44):
do that. Whatever you do,don't do that. Yeah, back of
your neck, back to your neck. No idea, no idea. It
was bad. Welcome to the desert. Welcome to the desert. Welcome to
the Desertcome to the desert. Butthat is a crazy story because that is
absolutely true. Older I got andgrowing up in Arizona, going, we

(06:08):
used to just get up and doeverything as a kid because there wasn't you
know, like today you got everykid's got video games, they got screen
they got computers, are on theirphones, are on all that kind of
stuff. It was my parents werelike, you gotta get out of the
house, get out of the house. Go, and you know, we
would. It was a neighborhood thing. So you go see who's hanging out
with friends, were going, let'sgo to part let's do whatever. But

(06:30):
you were out of the house, and it didn't matter if it was summer,
if it was January, if itwas July. You were out of
the house and you just dealt withit. But now, no, no
chance. Yeah, I mean itwas one hundred degrees in the legendary baseball
game where I was the catcher atWest Phoenix High School, home of the
Thunderdome for the Thunderbirds, and wewere playing Central and that was the game

(06:51):
where our first the ball hit homeplate and then shattered my cup. It
hit me so hard it shattered ametal cup. Then the ball bounced on
the plate. The late Mike Carneswas pitching. It bounced on the plate
and hit me in the throat.Same because then I'd been hitting the balls
in the throat. So then whenI was catching, i would put my

(07:13):
glove over the plate, but I'dbe like three feet outside. I was
not I would. I mean,it was it was as if the umpire
was the catcher. The umpire wascompletely exposed. I didn't give a rats
ask. All right, so nowI'm catching like that, and this was
the game. It's one hundred degrees. You talk about playing at a game
like that in high school where there'sa play at the plate, And that

(07:36):
was the time where the first basemancut off the ball through it to me
a collision at the plates. Asthe collision occurred, the umpire couldn't see
the ball was knocked from my hand. But then I was trying to pick
up the ball as quickly as Icould, and when the guy rolled off
me, the umpire saw at thelast second that I was trying to grab

(07:56):
the ball and he called the runnersafe and this was an extra inning.
We lost. So I've been hittingthe balls, I've been hitting the throat.
I've been run over at the plate. It's one hundred degrees. We're
an extra innings. And that iswhen Andre Ethier's father, Byron, came
up to me afterwards and go andwent, nice job, Fred, You'll
lost the game for him. Nicejob, you lost the game for us.

(08:18):
I felt like I had been onehundred rounds with Mike Tyson and dehydrated
in that heat. Wait a go, Fred, nice job. Yeah,
you had all the catchers gear ontoo, you know. And this guy's
pitching a ball all over the place. For whatever reason. That stays with
me. That's some things you neverforget. You never forget that, all

(08:41):
right, Can we agree? Oh, Tony looks great in the leadoff spot.
Absolutely, Look, it's it's it'sit's a fact. And know this
from playing. It's a fact. When you lead off, you're gonna get
better pitches. You get better pitches. It's just instinctly, the pitchers,
for whatever reason, they want toget that first out that you talk to

(09:03):
most pictures, they want to getout number one, and they get the
leadoff man. That's what everybody's taught. You taught that as a pitcher starting
at ten years old, get theleadoff man. So you're gonna get you're
gonna get the best pitches at theleadoff spot. How you capitalize on it
is going to you know, requiresthe individual and the talent. But certainly
he is. He is as hotas anybody. But you know, let's

(09:26):
face it, Muki was playing atan MVP level too, so much was
talked about Mooki and the MVP raceand what he was doing in the leadoff
spot. So it's both of them, you know, yeah, and I
know you know now that he ifthis continues, people say, oh,
what do you do? What doyou do? What do you do?
Do you keep him there and moveMoki a second? And I think you
got to go back. You gotgotta go back to Mooki at the leadoff

(09:50):
spot. If if we're if we'retalking about what do you do with Muki?
I would say when he comes back, he comes back, And maybe
not right away, But as soonas he gets his groove again, I
think he goes back to the lidospot. And I'll tell you this,
because would you rather a solo homerun from Otani or to run home run

(10:11):
from Montani. He's gonna hit fortyplus home runs, right, so he's
gonna have more home runs than Mooki. So I'd rather have somebody on.
Plus, if you get that nineeight nine guy on Mooki gets on,
then it's more than that. See, I think when Mooki comes back,

(10:35):
you have to have a conversation. It may go back to exactly the way
it was. You may be onehundred percent right, but I think if
Otani continues this, then at thevery least you have to have a conversation.
You have to have a conversation withOtani and Mooki and bring Freddy Freeman
into. Freddy Freeman hit better secondthan he does third. You got to

(10:58):
bring them all in. All right, let's figure this out. All Fred's
hot too, Yeah, he finallygot hot. Yeah yeah, But I
think you got to bring him inand you have to have a conversation.
And I think the first part ofthe conversation is, Mookie, do you
have to hit lead off. IfMooki says that's where I've got to be,
that's where I'm most comfortable, wellthen it's case closed. You put

(11:18):
Mooky back. I agree with that. Yeah, but what if Mookie says,
you know what, let me hitsecond. I'm good there, let
me give that a shot. Doyou think he would you because you're not
taking you're not taking it from him, Rodney, You're not You're not taking
it. You're not saying, Mookie, we've made a decision. You're having

(11:39):
a conversation. If there was aconversation, do you think he might go,
man, let me give it thata shot. He Yeah, he
might. He might because Mooki's thatguy. He's a team guy, and
just like Freddie you know, hadno problem moving from second to third.
He's a he's a they're all teamguy. So he wouldn't have a problem
with it. As soon as yousuggest that means you've been thinking about it

(12:03):
means you've possibly been thinking about makingthat move. So I and the worst
feeling because it runs through your headconstantly when you're not playing and you're hurt,
it's like somebody's gonna take my spot. The Wally Pip right Wally,
Pip gets hurt and Luke Garrit nevercomes out again. That is the thought

(12:26):
process when you're hurt. He's like, I gotta get back here sooner than
later. And I guarantee you eventhough they're a teammate, there's competition with
in teammates that he's watching. O'tanygo off at the leadoff spot, saying
I gotta get back in there.I gotta get back because that's that's me,
that's my position. And I don'tthink Mookie would be a hard line
guy and say, yeah, Iknow when I come back, I gotta

(12:50):
I gotta hit leadoff. That's justthe way it is. I think he'd
be a team guy, but Ithink deep down he would really want to
h you really want to stay atthe leadoff spot, which I think,
uh it would would would still bethe best. I mean, it's not
like MOOKI wouldn't blistering it either.Muki was killing it was yeah, so

(13:16):
so I would keep him there justfor the reason I was saying earlier that
I'd rather I'd rather Otani come upwith Mooky on base rather than I'm hitting
solo home runs or be the leadoffturnover guy. I'd rather that be the
case, because Mooki gets on basstoo, not just home runs. Mooki
gets on base, and that's abig deal. I think the Dodgers will

(13:39):
have I do think what how manygames has it been? But I think
as we continue, if this continues, there may be a conversation at the
very least, just a conversation.Uh quick, Tyler glasnow dominant again.
Look good. If you don't understandwhy the Dodgers wanted him, you do
now. Yes, if you werewondering why they would trade for a guy

(14:03):
and then give him that deal, you understand. Now. He's a true
ace. He really is. Yeah. But here's the thing that's interesting.
He's crossed one hundred innings at thispoint in time. He's just twenty shy
of his career high. Now thinkabout that for a second. Yeah,
here we are, We're in whatthe end of June, June twenty fourth,

(14:26):
and he's at one hundred innings, right, and twenty shy of his
all time record. Right? Sowhat does that tell you? What does
it tell me that he did gethurt in the past. I don't think
it's a precursor to anything this year. By the way, I think he's
good. But you know, aswe looked at everything when they were signing
him, and you looked at thenumber of innings's pitched, that was a

(14:50):
red flag. But not for theDodgers. They apparently knew that all that
ailed him had been corrected. Becauseit's pretty mind boggling. He's twenty inningshy
of his career best and we're notto the All Star break yet, right
what I'd like to see and andand I know there's this stat out there.

(15:11):
I don't have it in front ofme, but it's I know he's
twenty inning shy, but where ishe in pitches? Because the other day
he was very efficient and he hasbeen most of this year very efficient in
his pitching. I think he onlygot seventy something pitches in seven innings.
Yeah, so so it would beinteresting to see along with those innings,

(15:33):
how many pitches or less pitches he'sthrown than he's done in the past as
well, because that had that that'sdefinitely a factor. You know, as
you go forward, but I'm withyou, you start thinking, Okay,
the way he pitches, he's astopper, He's a stop the bleeding guy.
He's a guy. If he onlyneeds one or two runs and he
can, he'll win it for you. You want, he's got to be

(15:54):
there in October. He's got tobe there in October, and you don't
want to burn him out. Andall of a sudden you look up and
he's having soreness in late August andSeptember because he's gone over that pitch limit,
especially with the unknown of Walker Buhlerright now and Bobby Miller just coming
back and seeing how they're going tobe, and also Yamamoto. How critical

(16:18):
in the big picture was it theysigned him? How critical was that now?
If you look at what happened withthe staff, Walker Buehler, we
don't know, I mean, andthat's being fair. We don't know.
Yamamoto now, we don't know, and that's being fair. How is he
going to recover? Bobby Miller? We don't know, We don't know,

(16:41):
we don't know. I mean, all of a sudden, you look,
you have Gavin Stone and Glasnow andKershaw coming back. So there's depth there,
guys that can pitch. But gettinghim was enormous, enormous, and
I don't think anybody really appreciated howbig that could turn out to be when
the Dodgers did that. I meanit's already big now with where the staff

(17:04):
has kind of been up in itand quiet as kept he should have two
more wins. I mean there area couple of games that they didn't.
They laid an egg, didn't scoreany runs for him at all. Yeah,
No, it's huge, it's it'sit's really probably next to old Tani,
the biggest signing they did in theoffseason. And let's not get ahead

(17:26):
of ourselves at all. Next year, if Otani pitches, Oh my god,
how much fun is that going tobe? Glass now old Tani?
Yeah, I want to know whatkind of rotation Otani would be on.
Well, you need a regular fiveyou know, five day rest guy,
six day rest guy, the othersstart. I mean, it'd be interesting

(17:47):
to see what they do with him. Oh, I think he'll be a
regular rotation guy. It's just howdeep is the rotation, That's all it
is. I mean, we sawwhat happened to be Alm. We pitched
once a week, and now he'soverworked coming off of a second Tommy John.
You think they might go to asix marirotation just to get him a
little more time. No, yep, I agree, Yeah, I would.
I would think so, on topof the fact that he's still hitting

(18:10):
too, so that's a lot yep. Yeah. And here's the thing.
Do you let him hit whny pitches? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? Are
you nuts? Yes? Some peoplewhat he was doing? Laughing? Why
is he hitting? He shouldn't behitting, but he's pitching, and it's
you're throwing him off a little bit. Now you gotta have that bat in
the lneup. I don't care whoyou know. Uh, seventy five percent

(18:33):
of Tony is better than most people. Yeah, I would agree. Dodgers

(18:57):
Why did Jerry West loses Laker tickets? I mean that's something that hurt
him to the core. Well, there's a report out and we'll discuss it
next Come on, come on,now, let's go. I'm flowing on
a Monday, get it Glow,Rodney, Pete Fred Rogan on Monday.

(19:21):
Let's go. Hey Rodney, youmentioned something in the last segment. Tim
Kates sent me a note about TylerGlass. Now, all right, you
wondered how many pitches? Yeah, all right, So last year twenty one
starts, one hundred and twenty innings, eighteen hundred and ninety four pitches.
He missed the first two months ofthe season coming back from an arm injury.

(19:41):
So he made his first start inMay. All right, this year,
so he's fine, and he's goingsixteen starts, one hundred innings,
only fourteen hundred and seventy pitches.Yeah, what does that tell you?
A difference? More efficient? That'swhat it is. Yeah. They fixed
yeah, they fixed them. Yeah. You know, and sometimes you know

(20:03):
what it comes down to a lotof times with guys like him, who's
a power pitcher. You know, you learn this as you get older and
become more of a veteran. Youyou don't have to strike everybody out.
You know, Bobby Miller has thatlittle issue right now. I think Walker
Buehler had it. You don't haveto You're not. Your job is not
to strike everybody out. You wantto have efficient any get ground balls,

(20:23):
get fly balls. You don't havea six pitch INNY eight pitch INNY right,
you strike everybody out that's at leastnine pitches. So you know,
those big powerful pitchers that you knowthrow ninety eight. You know they're thinking,
I'm gonna strike this guy out.I'm and strike this guy out,
when more often than not, especiallyif you're dealing with the bottom of the
lineup of some of these teams, make the guy hit a groundball. Yeah,

(20:48):
you know, yeah, and there'syour key right there. He's more
efficient. They fixed him and that'swhy he's where he's at. Now.
Okay, so this has been speculated. Nobody could really figure out what happened,
But now there was a report.Ethan Strauss's substack has come out with

(21:11):
this report. Remember when they tookJerry West tickets away? Yes, I
mean the NBA logo, yes, right, everything he had done for the
franchise out of respect, he hadthese tickets and all of a sudden they
were gone. It took his ticketsaway from him. Now, grantedy was
working for the Clippers, but thathonestly, when you're dealing with Jerry West,

(21:32):
It's not like you know, hewas going to lake or practice and
reporting back to Tyron Lou. No, it was a show of respect.
So here's the report. And thishad been speculated on when Jerry was here
with Phil Jackson, because remember therewas a fracturing and Jerry West left if

(21:53):
you remember, yes, all right, he did not see eyd ee right.
Well, one of the things apparentlythey really didn't see eye to eye
on was Genie's relationship with Phil Jackson. Yeah, he not only Jerry saw
eye to eye on that. Andwhen push came to shove, it was
filled at State and Jerry it went. If you remember that, okay,

(22:18):
Well, Ethan Strauss writes, itwas Genie Buzz who was very upset,
very upset that Jerry West did notembrace the relationship she had with Phil Jackson
and actually was critical of it.She remembered that, she remembered that,
and when the opportunity came because andthis is according to Ethan Strauss, when

(22:42):
the opportunity presented itself to renew, she just said that we're done, there'll
go your tickets. Got a longmemory, got a long memory. And
that is what he is reporting asto why things were fractured at the end

(23:04):
for Jerry West and the Lakers. What do you think about that? Here's
what we do know. We knowJerry didn't leave under great terms, true,
leave the Lakers under great terms, right, We know that for a
fact. We also know that hehated that the relationship was strained with the

(23:26):
Lakers. With the Lakers, yes, yes, he hated that. He
hated that he didn't have a relationshipwith the Lakers and when they didn't and
we also know when they didn't hirehim back when there was a chance that
hurt him. And we also knowfrom his quote that he didn't really understand
why he didn't. Jerry didn't reallyunderstand why, like it was never presented

(23:52):
to him. But this is whywe're not bringing you back. This is
why you don't have your tickets. This is not he wasn't presented that because
he said he doesn't he doesn't knowwhy the relationship strained. I'm sure he
has an idea, but I don'tthink he knows specifically why it would be
strained that much. If if itis, and let's be crystal clear,

(24:14):
there there's always two sides of thisstory. There's always both sides of the
story. I don't know. Wedon't know how ugly that got when it
came to Genie and Phil and Jerry, If Jerry got involved or not,
we don't know. We don't knowthe conversations, We don't know all of
that. But what what happens iswhen you make a move like that to

(24:37):
an iconic figure like Jerry West,it will come back to bite you,
and we'll come back to look veryvery petty, you know. Okay,
so you don't hire him, butdon't don't take away his legend, don't
take away his legacy, don't takeaway his tickets until we're gonna take away

(25:00):
his jersey. I mean, don't, don't don't don't do all that.
Just still celebrate the guy. Youdon't have to talk to him, you
don't have to deal with it,you don't have to hire him at your
GM, but respect the fact whathe did for that organization and what he
did for your dad. Right,So it looks it looks petty, and
again just from the outside, itlooks petty, but again there's always some

(25:25):
story that she may have been veryhurt by some of the things he did
or said. Yeah, I thinkeverybody knew that followed the club that there
was a bit of a power strugglebetween Jerry and Phil. Yeah, there
was, no everybody knows that. And you would think that since Phil was
dating the owner's daughter, Phil wasprobably gonna have an inside track on that

(25:51):
stuff. Mm hmm, right, you know he's talking to her at night.
Yeah, so you knew there wasa power sho struggle there. What
I didn't realize was that, ifthis report is true, Jerry was critical
of their relationship period that I didn'tknow. Yeah, I didn't either,

(26:12):
and that and the report here isthat's why it fractured. But when you
heard that, it almost validates andmakes sense because what else could it be?
What else could it be that youdon't that you are so angry with

(26:33):
Jerry West that you don't you takeaway as tickets and you don't honor the
man, You refuse to hire himback, and you take away as tickets.
And it won't be just because heworks for another organization. I agree

(26:55):
with you, you know, Andyou know that's look, that stuff's always
ugly anyway. Office romances, youknow how they can go, You know
what can happen. The funny thingis she remained close to Phil. It
still is Mary j. Moore closeto Phil. Yeah. Yeah, and
maybe Jerry felt, you know, somewhat like a father figure a little bit

(27:18):
to her, you know, youknow, Magic felt his sister and brother.
You know, maybe Jerry felt likemore of a father figure to her
because she he was close to Jerryand and felt that way and just didn't
didn't like And maybe he voiced it. I don't know, We don't know,
We don't know how much he voicedit. But certainly that got in

(27:40):
the way and feelings got into it. And I don't know any other plausible
reason why to yeah, you know, ex him out other than personal situation.
Yeah. Also, Lakers seem tobe split in the front office.
By the way, JJ Riddick willbe introduced at one thirty. We're going
to carry that as much of itas we can. So, according to

(28:04):
a report, Lakers are split inthe front office. What do you do
about Chris Paul? What do youdo? So if they're split, that
would indicase. Some people are goingNo, I don't think so, No,
those are going yeah, that'd begreat. Of course, JJ Reddick
knows Chris Paul very well. Idon't know what side of the fence he's
on. Yeah, they were.Of course they didn't get along very well
at the Clippers, didn't they.Well, then there you go. We'll

(28:26):
see. But you know, evenif you're on the fence, even if
you're you know, got we gottakick this one around. We're not really
sure here. I can answer itfor you right now. No, I
can give you your answer. Theredoesn't need to be any conversation. No,
don't play the name game. No, I'm not saying Chris Paul can't
help somebody the last thing you need. But not at thirty five million dollars,

(28:51):
forty million dollars first whatever, Definitely, none of that is he go
take the veteran minimum for it?Can he take a can he take a
minimum him contract? Maybe? Then? Yeah? Paying a guy anything over
twenty million dollars to come are youI'm not paying him twenty million dollars.
I'm not paying him five million dollars. Why would you stunt the growth of
a young player that could help youwith Chris Paul because you know he'll get

(29:15):
hurt. It's just when, Sowhy are you even having him on your
roster? He's not going to bethe missing piece of the puzzle, and
if the puzzle is not going tobe constructed where it fits perfectly and you
win a title, I say,go younger, Do not do that.
Yeah, it's his father time that'scatching up to him a little bit.
At one point, there was alegitimate argument for Chris Paul. You know,

(29:40):
I think when he went to Phoenixin the one year they did go
to the title championship, he wasplaying at a high level. Then the
injuries stacked up again, they movedhim on to Golden State. I don't
even know. I can't remember himhaving much of an impact with Golden State
last year, do you Yeah,So if he's still out there requiring a

(30:02):
lot of money, then I don'tknow if you can do that. I
think if it requires any money,I don't know if you can do that.
I mean, if he wants toshow up and work out with the
guys and you know, help runthrough drills, fine, but I wouldn't
pay him. There's no way thatdoes not make you better. That does
not improve you. You're not goingto get better. He's not the missing
piece. He won't be the missingpiece, and it's not being cruel to

(30:26):
argue that he can make you better. I don't say you bring him in
to be the missing piece, butI would. I would argue that he
could make you better with with Lebronand a D. He could make with
those three plan on the court, given the fact that you know he stays
healthy as long as possible, hecould make you better. He's going to
show he still can get his ownbucket. He can still distribute, he

(30:47):
still can do the thing. He'sstill the general on the court. He
still can make you better. Butnot at thirty million dollars. No,
But I'm saying, in any money, do not pay him is a price
that he could make you better,Okay, And I'm saying, do not
pay him instead of somebody else.Do not Well, I don't care who

(31:08):
they pay. Somebody is not gonnawell. Everybody can get hurt, but
somebody is not gonna get hurt likehim. I mean, anybody can get
hurt, but we know there's agood chance he's going to get hurt.
And then what have you done. You've denied someone a chance to grow in
your system, and you can't.I don't think you can afford that at
it you whoever, whoever they signsomebody that needs minutes whoever. I don't

(31:34):
know. They trade for somebody todrive somebody whatever they do. Now,
you're talking about developing a young kid. Right when you got Lebron at forty
and you got a d AG anda d you got time to do all
that. You have no choice. Can't do it. You can't have it
both ways. You can't say wegot to win right now and they say,
oh, we we don't want todo this because we're gonna take some
minutes away from a young kid whowants to develop. I'm I'm not in

(32:00):
the we've got to win right nowcamp anymore. I'm not. I don't
see him doing it. Oh youare? You? Would you be in
on a Trey Young trade? Iwould be. I wouldn't be in.
There's only one guy I would tradefor, and I know Trey Young.
You said write it in heavy leadlast week, not ink, but heavy
led and heavy led. So inthe event we have to erase it,

(32:22):
it'll take some time, but wecan't erase it. So yeah, No,
I'd be in on Donovan Mitchell onlybecause I love him and want to
watch him play, but he getshurt all the time. I'm all in
and that go get Downovan Mitchell, that would be the best. You'd be
favored to win it all you gothim. I don't know if you'd be
favored or not, but i'd loveevery game. Yeah, you would.
You would be favored. That's theguy. Go figure out how to get

(32:44):
him because that'll be fun. He'sworth the price of admission. He's one
of the most exciting guys in theleague. He can do it all and
he's quick. But he gets hurt. But if he's healthy, man,
that's the guy i'd show up tosee. So yeah, get him and
whatever happens, at least it wouldbe fun to watch. But this win,

(33:04):
now, I'm done with that. When are you gonna win? You
know what? I just want tohave a good time watching them, and
I hope you win. I thoughtthis was la Fred, you gotta win
now. Don't believe in that,Kevin. The Lakers don't obviously believe in
that, because they have committed somuch money to Lebron in a d Just
the year ago they were in theWestern Conference finals. Fred, that was

(33:25):
end. This is now. GetYou can hear yourself some times, Fred,

(34:07):
you if you'd a podcast, yeah, and you said listen. I used
to date Holly's roommate. My onlyreason was to make her jealous. Yeah,
if Holly heard that, I wonderhow she would feel. Let's figure

(34:29):
that out. Yeah, come on, let's do it. Today's afternoon delight
is put Him in the Fridge. The piece of Pluma, this Cardi B
assistant track said to Piero on theMexican singer's newly released double album entitled The

(34:52):
twenty four Track Project, as asa number of featured artists including Rich the
Kid, Quavo, and DJ Snake. The name of Few again. Today's
afternoon delight is put him in theFridge A basil Plumba featuring Cardi B.
All right, JJ Reddick news conferencestarts at one thirty we'll see if it

(35:15):
starts at one thirty. Oftentimes itstarts a little late, but whatever time
it starts, we're gonna be onthe air. We'll carry some of it
for you. Let you hear whatthe new likeer coach has to say.
When speaking of letting you hear whatpeople have to say, we have some
audio of Kelly Stafford Matthew Stafford's wifedon't call him matt and we all remember

(35:35):
that fiasco. Now she's not afraidto tell stories and talk about what's on
her mind. So let's just letyou hear what Kelly Stafford had to say.
Wait, so was he trying tocasually date? And you were all,
yeah, girl. Anyways, longstory short, it wasn't that cute
of a relationship. At first.I hated him, I loved him.
I dated the backup to piss himoff, which yes, he was like,
that'll do it. He was abad boy too, like Matthew's so

(35:59):
sweet and southern gentlemen and all stuff, and the backup was the complete opice.
Yeah yeah, ooh, and itupset him. So they lived in
the same dorm because athletes lived inthe same dorm, and he would see
my car there, and so atone point he like waited and fought and
followed me out and got in mycar and wouldn't get out up and he
was like this is so hot.Yeah, I was get out of my

(36:22):
car and he's like, I don'tHe's not right for you. And I
was like, you can't tell methat. Okay, So what we what
we know now is that to makeher husband Matthew jealous, she dated his
teammate, dated his teammate. Okay, Rodney, now do you find that

(36:45):
just a cute story that puts asmile on your face, Oh, you
know that's funny, or do youshake your head and go what are you
talking about? Which one? Itend to side with Stephen A. Smith,
who went on a rant about it. What are you doing? What?

(37:06):
What? Why? Why? Whyis that necessary? I don't know
how many years into their marriage? Now, why is it? Why is
that necessary? When your husband isstill playing. That's something maybe for a
retirement party or you know, closeddoor deal with your buddies and close friends.
But why do you got to revealthis on a on a podcast that

(37:28):
to make him jealous? You sleptor hung out with his backup quarter back.
So I think that was the correctanswer. I think the first thing
you said probably is the right one. Yeah, why would you why would
you even say that? I mean, you both know what went down back
then. And look, college relationships, you know, Red you went to
college for two seconds and then youthen you didn't, But I went to

(37:52):
college. You know, college relationshipsvery seldom, relationship from high school from
college last, and people getting marriedbecause you go through so much of a
transition that it's off and on alot of times in college, and there's
you know, there's a lot ofa lot of things going on, a
lot of temptation anyway, so it'soff and on. So everybody kind of

(38:14):
knows that. But you don't needto bring that to the to the forefront
right now. Right now, hegoes into the locker room guaranteeing you,
and people are looking at him sideways. Teammates are looking at him sideway.
Okay, and now they're looking atJimmy Garoppolo as the backup. And I'm
sure are happening right now. Ohwe signed Jimmy g as the backup.

(38:37):
Oh boy, oh boy, ohboy. There's some things that are not
necessary and don't need to be said. Out loud. They really don't,
They really don't, and it's justjust again, why why? I guess
it's a funny story story. Youcould tell the story about you know,

(39:00):
I made him jealous and all that, but you get very specific. You
know, now everybody's out there tryingto find out who the backup quarterback at
Georgia was when he was there, right you know, well, you know
what, he's probably gott an interviewrequest right now. And how does that

(39:20):
make Matthew feel? It's like, what are you doing? Yeah, what
are you doing? You know whatI'm gonna hear now, he's gonna I'm
now, I'm gonna hear this forall of training camp, right because guys
don't have Guys in the locker roomsdon't get but you know what, they
don't care who you are. They'regonna tease you stretch line. You're stretching
in line. Who's our backup quarterbackthis year? It should be somebody just

(39:45):
yelling out while you're stretching in line. But he's gonna have to hear that
guy that back up from Georgia answeringsome questions. He's gonna be on the
podcast soon. Whoever that backup wasgonna probably be on somebody's podcast talking about
it. Yeah, yeah, thatwas a crazy time. I was backing
up out. He didn't know, you didn't know Kelly was coming over.

(40:07):
It's just bad, just bad,It's bad. Look, can you imagine
you can tell her, Rachelle youknow what you know when I was you
told me, Hey, yeah,no, when back in the day,
I you know, if we weredating, you know, we're going through
our time. You know, hercollege buddy, her roommate, or you

(40:28):
know, I messed around with hera little bit just to make her jealous.
Why it's evers right, That's mypoint. I guess if you're with
really close friends that you're very comfortablewith, ye, and you've had a
drink or two when you're all yuckingit up and laughing and telling stories and
a very close knit group of peoplethat all know each other, yeah,

(40:52):
and you decide to play truth ordare right like ten people around basically,
and he prop by the way,he probably he knows that as well.
Stafford probably knows that. I don'tthink it was a shock to him that
he knows. He knows. Shejust said he you know, he knew
and followed her to the car,and guy wouldn't get out of her car
because he would see her car atthe dorm, and she went there to

(41:13):
see him, so he knew itwas going on. But why you gotta
bring it up? Yeah? Why, it's like it's embarrassing to him.
It's embarrassing. And maybe she thoughtit was just a really cute thing.
But I would suggest to you ifany guy did that in a public forum

(41:35):
and talking about his wife or partner, said I used to date her friend
or roommate just to make her jealous, how would that play out? How
would that work? You would neversay that ever. It would be so

(41:59):
hurtful to say that publicly about yourpartner spouse. Yeah, I mean it
would embarrass them. They already knowthe story. Yeah, it's one thing
to say, you know, toto Okay, before I dated Matthew,
I dated his other quarterback. Right, But she didn't say she said I

(42:21):
specifically dated him to make him jealous. Right. You know, it would
have been better if she would havesaid, Hey, I'm gonna be honest
with you. Back in college,I got to know some of those guys
pretty well. I mean they allknew me on a football team, because
I did it a lot of them, but Matthew was the one that captured
my heart. She could have saidthat. I'd prefer saying that that she

(42:43):
really knew the offensive line well insteadof saying I dated his backup to make
them jealous, because if she doesthat, I mean, and look,
everybody does what they want to do. If she comes on as well,
yeah, I knew some of thoseguys pretty well, you know what I
mean. Well, that's on her, that's about her, right, Yeah,

(43:05):
that's what she did. Yeah,Hey, that was my college days.
I did my thing. I didmy thing. We all have thought.
We all did. We all livedin our twenties and I are young,
you know, later teens. Weall did crazy stuff that we wish
we could take back. Right,So no harm, no foul, right,
But to specifically say you did thatintentionally, Yeah, And then it

(43:29):
comes down to, Okay, doesshe really think that was just a really
cute, funny story to tell?Does she really think, oh, you're
gonna love this one. Listen, because you're right, he's gonna be stretching
who's our backup? Stay away fromthat wife, right, I mean,

(43:51):
And it's not like you won't hearit from other players around the world.
Yeah, oh yeah, come on, come on, why would you do
that? And and think about againwhat I just it just hit me too
when we were just getting ready totalk about this, that Jimmy Garoppolo is

(44:12):
the backup quarterback with her Rams witha lot of good looking guy, right,
Jimmy G. Yeah, of allpeople, the ladies loved Jimmy G
and he is the backup of theRams. That just adds to the whole
thing, like why why why?She Actually she actually thinks, and you

(44:35):
know our experience with her, sheactually believes that she is a bigger personality
than her husband. I don't thinkthat. I don't know now. No,
I think that she has. Look, she's obviously been through a lot,
a lot, you know, healthissues, things like that, and
I respect her for the way she'sbattled and how she gives back. Let's

(44:57):
be clear about that. The yearsin Detroit, they did a lot for
the for the city. She's gother own voice, she's got the podcast.
But I don't I don't. Idon't think she's I think she respects
him. I think she's you know, she's his partner. But I think
she also wants to have her ownvoice, and that's why she's doing the
podcast. And if you heard theother lady on the podcast, she was,

(45:17):
Oh, that's just so romantic. It's so romantic that he got in
the car and wouldn't get out.So it just she kind of kept the
story perpetuating because she she took theangle of that was a romantic gesture to
get your man. No it wasn't. No, it wasn't a romantic gesture.

(45:44):
Would anybody consider that a romantic gesture? No? No, I don't
think she was talking about him.You know, fighting for that's what the
theme of from their point of view. Yes, the old romantic comedy think
like, I'm not leaving this caruntil you commit to me. I love
you that much, girl. Yes, he's wrong for you, he's not
good for you. Yeah, I'ma fight for you woman. Yeah.

(46:08):
Oh you know what would have beengreat if he doesn't fight for and she
ends up with the backup quarterback.O man, that would have been perfect.

(46:29):
I's have a word from the secondOh I'm sorry, no, go
ahead, go ahead. Yeah,I was gonna say that could go several
different ways. That could have goneto your point, because he could have
said, oh, you did what, I don't want you anymore. He
did that, Okay, go gobe with him instead of going to fight.
But he could have said go bewith him. She rolled the dice

(46:51):
on that one, and it couldhave gone the other way. It could
have gone opposite, because I knowif someone did that that I was dating,
did that to me, would youknow, a friend of mine my
backup? Cancel Christmas. I'm notgoing on that trip. Cancel Christmas?

(47:15):
Right? It could have gone theother way, Yes, yes, yes,
I'm sorry. All right, here'sa word from Jacob acciting ora injury
