Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, here we go, Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete at
seventy LA Sports. My thanks to Jonas Knox for sitting
in yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
And uh so.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
If I had done the show yesterday, Rodney, yes, I
was gonna come on and let Tanner Scott have it again.
You're gonna give it to him again. There were two
things I was gonna do. The first thing I was
gonna do because I watched and I went, oh god, no,
not again, no no.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
But now now it's a new day.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
It's a new day with Tanner Scott's he's back.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
He's beat his back. Yeah, he's back.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
You see how quickly life can change, Rodney. Yeah, you
see how quickly things can change. Just blink of an eye,
snap of a finger. Now he's the guy they signed.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Uh ready, Reddy. Just like you know, we waited until
he had three or four blown saves before we gave
him the business. I think you gotta wait to more
games of him doing well before you can say he's back.
You can't. You can't just go off of one game
(01:09):
because he got They got a tough stretch coming up here,
and they're gonna need him to be very good. They're
gonna need him to earn that seventy two million dollars.
So one game great, I'm glad needed it against the Mets.
A lot of stars in that game last night, though,
but they needed Tennis Scott to come through, and he did.
Pissed a shutout, you know, at the end of the game,
(01:31):
which they needed and made it easier for the for
the Dodgers to walk that thing off. But I was
happy for him. I was happy for Max Munsey is
happy for a lot of guys.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
All right, on the on the subject of Tanner Scott,
before we get to Max Munsey, who has been reborn.
He's like a phoenix, he's risen from the ashes. But
let's go back to Tanner Scott. Yeah, so last night
here we go to extra innings. We don't know who's
gonna pitch at Rodney, right, they go to commercial, they
come back when you saw him standing on the mound,
(02:02):
when you saw him there, because I know, I know
what I thought. What did you think? Because you weren't
you weren't there? Were you last night?
Speaker 3 (02:11):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I wasn't there.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
So we didn't get to see the bullpen gate open
and have run out.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
We don't know anything, just why we just yeah, hopefully
he didn't get biased.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
We don't know if he got biased, right, and you know,
if you were there, you know, but the majority of
people I think probably weren't. They were listening on the
radio or watching the game on TV. So you see
him out there, they come back.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And he's standing there. What did you think? You know?
I I what did you? I didn't go. I didn't.
I wasn't.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Oh no, like I'm sure a lot of people were,
oh no, tennis guy.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
I was nervous for him. I was nervous for him.
And it's it's you know, outside of my own kids,
I don't get nervous for other people often. But with
all the heat, and we had David Vassey on yesterday
and Jonas kept pointing out, how much how hard you know? I,
(03:04):
I say, went at Tanner Scott, you know, for number
one not performing, the number two not being at his
locker to take interviews afterwards. So he just beat him up,
beat him up, beat him up. And so I felt myself,
just please please come through in this moment, Tanner Scott. Please.
So yeah, there was some nervousness about it, but I wasn't.
(03:27):
I wasn't. Oh no, he's out on the hill. Because
I said it before, I think you got to keep
trotting him out there. It's still early June. You paid
him a lot of money, You paid him to be
your closer. You got to keep trotting him out there
and see if he can work himself out of this.
He didn't just all of a sudden become a bad picture.
You know, something was happening, and the only way you
(03:50):
get out of a funk is to go back and
do it over and over again. And so I'm glad
that they put him back out there and and he
came through. What did you think? What were your thought?
Because I know you went, oh no no.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I didn't go oh no. I went oh god. I
did oh god, no no. And then because of what
he's been going through, it's kind of sick.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
But I'll be honest.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Now, you analyze every single move he makes, everything from
the way he walks to the rubber to the way
he catches the ball from the.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Catcher, like, why is he catching it like that? Why
is he taking his right step? Why is he why
is his foot landing like that? What's wrong with him?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Exactly? And after every pitch you're trying to see his face.
You want to see what he looks like, you want
to see how he feels. Yeah, And I sat there
and that must have been the most hilatious happening of baseball.
I've watched it a long time. Even if he gets
somebody to swing and miss, the first thought is, oh no,
(04:52):
he's not going to put it down the middle, is he?
Oh God, he's not going to miss his spot?
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Is he?
Speaker 1 (04:58):
And when it was all set, and I have to
tell you he had reason to be excited, but I'll
bet you his initial emotion was pure and genuine relief.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I got through it. I did it.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
I'm okay, And that's why I think he will be okay.
It's really interesting psychologically to watch that. I mean, because
you're watching someone struggle in real time, and they're struggling
in front of a lot of people, So everything he
does becomes magnified because so many people are watching. And
(05:36):
on top of it, he's the closer, so it's his
responsibility to shut it down. So as he was going
through I could first. I don't know what the bullpen
situation was like, but I saw him, I went, oh god,
oh no, why would you send him out there then
why that's what Honest to God, that's what I thought.
(05:58):
But then I started to think, Roberts, you said this, Rodney,
there's only one way to fix this. Yeah, you got
to fight your way through it. You got to fight
your way through it. And he did last night. And
maybe honestly, that's all it took.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, yeah, and you hope so you really do, because
you know, obviously you can see it as he's an
emotional guy, and you know, and then the beating he
took for not taking questions after that about the fifth
blown save, you know, you felt for him a little bit.
(06:37):
And had this been early September, late August, I don't
know if they tried him out there. I don't think
they tried him out there. If he's struggling like this
and blew the last five saves, he wouldn't be out there.
But it's still June. You still got a lot of time,
and he's got a lot of innings to go and
you got to find out and it's not time to
shut him down in early June. And I don't know
(06:59):
if if you're a closer, right, and that's your mentality,
you know, some people were saying well, why don't they
just you know, he'll be the first guy out of
the pen, you know, put him in the fifth or
sixth inning, let him go in any uh there. So
it's not as high leveraged as the ninth or tenth inning.
But I don't know. Guys get during the course of
the season. They get their mindset and their framework and
(07:20):
their body clocks are all about the ninth and tenth
inning or tenth inning even has to be. And so
I don't know how good that would have been for
him if they decided, oh, you know what, we're not
gonna we're not gonna use you as the closer. We're
gonna use you in some low leverage situations in the
sixth seventh inning. I don't know if that works. Fred, Well,
you only did that.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
You would only do that just to give him a
chance to catch his breath and really work on things
in real time. Like you said it, what are you
gonna do off to Oklahoma City with you? You know
you gotta work on this, and we know just how
to do it. We're gonna send you down to Okay
say no, they can't do that. So he's got to
(08:00):
work these problems out in real time. I hope he
did last night.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
It was a huge relief for him.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
He probably had his best night of sleep in two weeks,
to be honest with.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
You, for sure, Uh, for sure, a lot of sleeping nights.
I'm sure it was. It was he got home. It's like, oh,
thank god, I can get a night's sleep in my
bed tonight. And I'm sure he was. I'm sure he
was answering every question that could be asked him after
that game as well, you know, and didn't run away
(08:35):
from anything. So good for him. You know, he is
a guy you kind of root for, you want to
root for, and and he took it hard, you know,
those blown saves, he took it hard. So and it's
more focused on the closer than anybody else because in
type all games there, like you said, counting on you
to shut it down, there's no margin for error with
(08:56):
the closer. You got to shut it down. That's you
got one job, and that's to shut it down. It's
not always easy.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Well, hopefully, hopefully, h his worst days are past him.
Now let's talk about Max Munsey. Max Munsey, feast or
famine always has been that way. Let's be honest, let's
just call the way it is. I mean, the guy
couldn't hit his hat size early in the year. You know,
you're hitting around two hundred, two eleven, two fifteen now,
(09:26):
And I understand things are different in today's baseball, and
I also get that, you know, the day of the
three hundred hitter consistently is over. But that was awful
and we know that, and we know he's only there
for one reason to instill fear into the pitcher, because
he is going to hit it out. And all of
a sudden, the switch went on. He caught fire. And now,
(09:49):
as you would say, he's a very bad man, a
very very bad man. And you can see when he's
at the plate that that swagger, that confidence.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Can you see it? I CA it's back. Yeah, he uh,
he's got it bad. And in the second home run
with the bat flip was vintage Max Munsey. I loved it.
I loved it. But yeah, you can tell when he's back,
because I believe it was the first one to leave
a little bit high, a little bit out of the
(10:20):
strike zone, and and he went up and got it.
And when he's going good, those are the kind of
pitches and balls that he hits out. You know, when
he's bad, he's swinging through those and he had a
lot of strikeouts early in the season, or he's popping
it up right, but he's been able to get on
top of it and and and get get the barrel
on it. And he's in a groove right now. So
(10:43):
he's you know, regardless of his struggles defensively, you can
live with that if he's gonna do what he did
last night.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
And you can just see the confidence. And maybe it's
really subtle, and maybe it's very nuanced, but you can
see now he just and he's a confident guy, but
he's really confident now. Now he is instilling fear again.
(11:10):
He is imposing his will, and that's a very good
thing for the Dodgers. I also thought it was essential
that they won last night going into extra innings. Oh yeah,
they needed to show they could do that after what
had happened the night before. Yeah, they needed to do
that for themselves because they should have won the night before.
(11:30):
Quite frankly, we know what happened there. Don't say it,
not saying a word. Yes, they should have you know,
And I.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Think I think you're right, given the fact that they
lost the last game to the Yankees. That made it
even more essential that they win last night because they
didn't want to lose three in a row. And now
going forward, do they have to at least get a split? Fred,
I mean if they if they win, if they go
(12:07):
three out of four against the Mets, then watch out
the rest of the league. I mean it's already watched
out the rest of the league because the Dodgers are
the Dodgers and they're not even healthy. But if they
beat the Mets three out of four, just go around
in June. Is it may be the start of a
role that people may not want to see unless you're
(12:30):
a Dodger fan.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Quite frankly, it's the way it's supposed to be. Yeah,
don't get too up, don't get too down. You got
to be good when you need to be good. They
seemed like against the Yankees, and despite what happened the
other night, and we don't to go and do it again.
And now against the Mets, they seem watching them now,
(12:52):
I think they're gonna win. From the very beginning. They
might not, but that feel is back. Yeah, you know,
it's not like they got swept three by the Angels.
What the hell is happening here? That feel is back
they they all seem and this might sound really weird,
a little bigger.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, does that make sense? Yeah? And sometimes it's it's
the other guys right. Once the when the other guys
get going, that's when you start to feel confidence as
a team. It's not always because you you kind of
expect it from O, Tani, Mookie and Freddy. Right, they're
(13:34):
not gonna be down very long. If they slumped, they
slumped for a little bit. They're coming back. But just
like last year when when taoscar got it going, that
was that was a huge, huge boost for the Dodgers.
And with a guy like Max Munsey because he's, like
he said, he strikes fear in the opponent, you can't
(13:55):
relax on him. Now, you can't relax and he never
could really relax on his lineup. But when he's got
it going, it's like, oh my god, I just got
through Otani, Betts and Freeman, and now I gotta deal
with Max with two runners on, I mean, how do
I deal with that? Tommy Edmund down at you know,
(14:15):
at the bottom of the lineup. It is what we
thought it should be to start the season, a very
tough lineup with a tough tough outs up and down.
But when the others get it going, like like Max
has got it going now, they are extremely dangerous and
really strike the fear and everybody's out. If you're a
posing picture and you're looking up and go all right,
(14:38):
I go in in this game. I know I got
my hands full with the top three. Damn. I got
my hands full with Will Smith, Max Munsey and Tommy
Edmund and Taioscar. I mean that that is that'll keep
you up at night, Fred, you talk about good night's sleeps.
That will keep you up at night.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
It's how they're supposed to perform. It's how the lineup
is constructed. Okay, So but one game at a time,
even Dave Roberts would tell you everything we just talked about.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
That was great from yesterday. Now we'll see what happens today. Yeah.
One thing in that game last night was Clayton Kershaw.
Yeah yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
You know, to be fair, he's pitching, but as well
as Clayton Kershaw can at this point, Yeah, you can't
have high expectations. Well you can, but he's not the
guy he was. Everybody knows it. And if you think
that you're being unfair to yourself and you're being unfair
to him. He can do what he can do, and
(15:41):
he's solid. I mean, he's solid. But the thing is,
no one was counting on him to be a key
member of the rotation. If you remember, no one knowing
he was going to come back. He could have been
back in the end of July for all we know,
and then it would have been a spot guy.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Right, somebody's hurt, somebody needs a blow. You put him in. Great,
he's gonna give us a good hopefully five. Now.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
The concern is that, given the situation and Glass now
was of course transferred to the sixty day, I l
are you gonna have to count on him emotionally, mentally
I'd counted. I'd take him in any fight because that
fighting petitor. He absolutely gonna fight for you.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
He has still got that inside dog in him and
he is going to compete like no like nobody else.
The thing is is that you know, there was I
think in everybody's mind there was. There's there's still that
vision of all you needed to get is two runs
with Clayton. Get him two runs. That's a w Get
him two runs Dodgers, that's a w Clayton's not giving
(16:47):
up more than two. You know how many times have
we seen that where when he's pitching, Remember he never
used to get run support when he pitched. If he
lost the game, it was they lost two to one
or they lost one to nine, right, But if you
got him two to three runs, it was lights out,
it was over. He was not giving up more than two.
And I think we still feel that when that twenty
(17:10):
two trots out there, you still have that vision of
that dominant Kershaw. He's just not that guy anymore. So
you're gonna have to get run support. When the Dodgers
went up like they did, it's like, oh, oh, let's go.
Let's just hold him down, Clayton, hold him down, And
of course, you know, the guys started hitting him a
little bit, but then god, the Dodgers got some runs
early and he was able to stay in there a
(17:32):
little bit. But yeah, you're right, your expectations has got
to be a guy that just give me five solid innings.
Gimme five? Can you give me five solid ones where
this doesn't get out of hand, because you need him,
as you mentioned, you need him with all the guys
on the il you're gonna need him. And again you're
(17:53):
gonna have to keep trotting him out there because he's
gonna need work. You know, he's got to be part
of your rotation. Like it or not, that's just the
way it is.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Yeah, And nobody thought that. Nobody believe that. Nobody was
anticipating that. Nobody got up and said, Clayton Kershaw is
going to be the number two guy. He's going to
be our guy. He's going to be a key member
of the rotation. Nobody was thinking that. But now you
find yourself in a place where he is, and you
(18:25):
cannot you cannot be too harsh because he can do
what he can do. That's all he can do. Give
me five, keep me in the game, give me five, Yeah,
keep me in.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Let us win it.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
If he's done that, that's like now winning the cy
Young for he's done his job.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Yeah, Yeah, he's done his job. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Okay, got a three hour show today joining us on
the program. Bill Plunkett from the OC Register. That'll be
pretty exciting. And Dan Woike, our good friend from the
La Times. We'll talk some Lakers during the two o'clock hour.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Not only.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Not only that, Fred This just in from Dave Weis.
How about three pairs of tickets to tonight's game?
Speaker 2 (19:16):
WHOA three pairs? Three given them away?
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Three pair of tickets to tonight's game Dodgers met at
the stadium on our show between now and three o'clock.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Well, hell, we're gonna start giving those tickets away. Not
right now, No, don't call right now, do not call
right now, but we will start giving those tickets away
this hour.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer. Make AM five to seventy or your
favorite AM five seventy LA Sports podcast a preset on
the iHeartRadio app using Apple car Play or Android Auto
road Trip all summer with LA Sports.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Oh yes, Freddy, Yes, welcome back on a hump day Wednesday. Yeah,
Rodney pt Fred Rogan on a beautiful, beautiful Wednesday. Don't forget.
Kevin just gave us the news right before the break.
We got three pairs, yes, three pairs of Dodged tickets
(20:21):
to give away to tonight's game. Come on now, let's
go all right, call yet though, don't call yet. Thank you,
thank you. You know here's the key.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
This is something we have to point out going forward
because we're friends and we're family and we have to
be honest with each other. Listening is important, not just
listening to the show, but listening for the proper time
to call. So if you get you know, the trigger finger,
you get happy fingers, and you die before you're supposed to,
we're gonna have to eliminate you. We're gonna remember your
(20:53):
number and you're not gonna be able to call back
because part of it is writ them in a file
for you know, put them in that file.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Right file.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
We're starting a file, and if you call before you're
supposed to, you're in that file.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
And you don't want to be there. No, no, you
don't want to be in that file.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Right Listening is an important skill. So we'll do that
later on this hour. We'll do it every hour. As
a matter of fact.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Tom Thibodau got it yesterday. It's funny.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
I was driving and I was listening to the end
of Jason McIntyre filling in for Colin, and about eleven
thirty he had a guest that I can't remember who
it is, and they're talking about Tom Thibodeau, and they're
talking about you know, he's done a good job, and
now all you have to do is just wait and
they'll get a piece here, a piece there, and they,
you know, really played well. They've had two fifty win seasons,
(21:42):
and then they will be ready next year. Fifteen minutes later,
he's fired fifteen minutes later. And I could not believe
it when I saw the alert that he'd been fired.
And it got me to thinking, look at the NBA.
Look at them. You can be coach of the Year
(22:03):
and then be fired. You can go to the playoffs
and then be fired. In the NBA, no job is safe.
If you become coach of the Phoenix Suns. Do not
take out a long term mortgage because they just fire
(22:23):
him after one year.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Man, wasn't it just yesterday Monty Williams took that job
in Phoenix that we wasn't that just yesterday? And now
they're like four coaches past Monty Williams. But Rodney, it's
like every year. Yeah, it's bad and I hate it.
You know. It's almost like the the the executives and ownerships,
(22:46):
they don't they don't look at how teams are successful.
WHI all teams win, they win with consistency. You win
with continuity, and when you're changing coaches every two years,
you you'll never win, You'll never get it going. And
and I don't know what happened in New York because,
like you said, back to back fifty win seasons, they
(23:08):
come with a game two games from making it to
the finals. I wonder if short of the Knicks making
it to the finals or even winning the finals, that
they were ready to get rid of Thibodeaux, like they
had their mind made up, because it doesn't make sense.
I mean, you saw it. You saw the ways were
going crazy about the next this year, I mean blocked
(23:32):
for a whip or you know, jumping up and down
in the streets and in the place was you know,
like the Madison Square Garden in the in the nineties
with Pat Ewing. It was crazy and then you fire him.
It's got to be something else going on there. Because
(23:54):
you even listen to the players red after the after
they got bounced, they were some of the questions were
odd that they were asking some of the players like,
you know, how do you think the job Thibodeau did?
Are you happy with his job? And guys like what
what what are we talking about? What is that a
real question. I remember Jaylen Brunton asked, is that a
real question? And he had the final answer he said, yeah, absolutely,
(24:18):
he's our guy. So I don't know if they had
their mind made up or something happened, but it's very
very odd. But again nothing nothing should surprise you when
it comes to James Dolan and the New York Knicks.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Who is the coach in Toronto that was Coach of
the Year and was fired and the nurse no born
Nick Nurse?
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Oh? Oh yes, yes, who was that? He was? He
was in Toronto. He was the coach of the year.
Then he fired him. Oh yes, uh yeah he was.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
He was a black guy black yes, Dwayne Casey.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Yes, yes, that's right. Yep. Coach of the year. Yeah,
I remember that. I mean we just got the Phoenix.
He just got there.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
It's like he just drove into town. How much they're
probably playing Frank.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Vogel bootenholezer Yeah, whoever else, probably still paying Monty Williams.
They may there is no security coaching in the AMP.
The Lakers went through it. Yes, yes, Frank Vogel wins
the championship. Two years later he's fired, you know, Mike
Malone and maybe a lot of people saying that's, you know,
(25:34):
the reason they got rid of tips because they wanted
they didn't want they wanted the first DIBs on a
on Michael Malone. But I just don't get the way
the NBA operates, you know. And we talked about it yesterday, Fred,
like how we used to get so so upset with
(25:54):
like with with fans here that would always call for
Dave Roberts job. It's like, you better have somebody else
coming through the door that's gonna win a World Series
every single year, because if this is a case to
be fired, then what are we doing? Right? So I
(26:15):
just I don't get I don't get ownership these days,
you know, and the Dodgers do it right. I mean,
I'm just you know, Dave Roberts probably be here until
he's ready to retire. He should be the way he
handles himself, the way he handles the team. And this
team was gonna keep on winning. Why why change? Why
(26:36):
would you change? And same thing with the Knicks. Why
would you change? What do you think? You think there's
something else going on there?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Oh, there's something else going on. There's two there's two
things that are gonna be happening here. First, there's something else
going on. Somebody in the front office is upset. There's
been some talking and grumbling behind the scenes, because why
else would reporters ask Jalen Brunson when they were eliminated,
what do you think of the job Tims did?
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Yeah, why would they even come up? That'd be the
last thing.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
If the Lakers go to Game seven of the Western
Conference Finals and get eliminated is the first question. Lebron's
gonna be asked, Well, what do you think of jj Reddick?
They just lost Game seven? Yeah, you wouldn't bring that
up if there wasn't some rumbling, some behind the scenes,
somebody complaining, but not publicly. The other side of it
(27:29):
is this, you took us as far as you're gonna
take us. We're not gonna get any better. We decided
you got us this close, but you can't get us
over the hump. So we're just gonna move on because
we need to win now. And I like the win
now mentality, but it is hard to win.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
You know that, as a guy.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
That played people watching go where you're supposed to win,
what's wrong with you? It doesn't matter what team you're playing.
The worst in any league. They're pros, they get paid,
they show up on any given day or night. So
it's hard to win.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
If you're if it is and if you're.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Gat No, I was gonna say, if you get to
the point where you're that close and you have climbed
that much, whatever you do, it's gotta be the thing
to put you over the hump.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Yeah, that's winning, And that's winning. You know, we're not
talking about it. You know, someone that you know gets
gets gets bounced in the first round every single year
or four years straight, like we had to deal with
with the Kings. Right, you try to you gotta figure
something out. But when you get to the Eastern Conference
(28:47):
Finals and you're building stuff and and and.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
You just you're just fresh off of fifteen year roster.
You know a lot of just out there is just
got there. Carl Anthony just got there.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
You know, you can't give him an offseason to kind
of jail with. Have he said you got to fire
the guy after getting to the Eastern Conference Finals. It
just I just I really don't I really don't get it.
I really don't get it unless there was some real
conflict with him and maybe the players or whatever it
(29:27):
may be, which we we got to know that happened
in Denver. They had to fire him four games before
the end of the season, you know, after there a
year and a half removed from winning a title. That
absolutely didn't make sense. But they fired the GM too,
So there was there was that was a package deal
that something that we don't know about went on there.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Okay, so let's talk NBA Finals they get underway. Shack
said something that was really interesting because people have speculated,
and I guess in my house. In my house, oftentimes
I'm called an old head. You're just an old head.
You just think old you're an old head. Well, old
(30:10):
heads believe this that if you have a matchup of
OKC in Indiana in the NBA Finals, who cares. Old
heads believe that's not going to do anything. Old heads
believe that's not exciting because they're not major markets. And
you understand what a major market is, a top ten
market New York, Chicago, LA. Markets like that, Boston, Dallas.
(30:34):
The belief is they're going to draw more unless you
have an anomaly like the Kansas City Chiefs, which are
a powerhouse and everybody wants to see them. But really,
when you're putting things together for the media, you want
to capture the biggest majority of the audience in the
top ten markets. Well, neither of these teams are, and
you're saying, well, this is going to be bad. Nobody's
going to watch. Shack said something and he was spot on,
(30:55):
and he nailed it. It really doesn't matter anymore what
the teams are, what markets they're from, because the NBA
is a social media league. It's not what it was.
It's how it gets paid for media rights. It's a
(31:15):
social media league and it's probably the only league that
it is to that degree. So people are going to
be interested in it and they are going to keep
an eye on it and be informed about it. They
might not watch it on TV, but they're going to know,
and they're going to know with social media because that's
(31:38):
how the generation communicates today. And I saw he said
that and I thought, you know, that really makes sense, Rodney.
I think that's a really valid point. Yeah, I agree,
I think he's spot on. I think we've talked about it.
You mentioned it several times that you know, it used
to be where players would want to gravitate to the
large market, the big cities LA, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Miami.
(32:03):
That's where they wanted to play because that was that
was gonna help their brand and was gonna make them
the most visible. But in the age of social media
and all of the outlets to be able to see
every single game, you don't have to be in LA
to be a superstar. You can be in one of
the smaller markets and be a superstar. Same thing with
the teams.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
You don't have to be in LA or in New
York in order to have some popularity or have a
fan base. You can be anywhere because the games are
shown everywhere. It's not like it used to be where
you know, you only got games on the West Coast,
or you only got you know, the regional coverage was
the regional coverage, and you never saw Oklahoma City play.
(32:45):
You know, people out west or you know, past Colorado
never saw them, or past the Mississippi River you never
you never saw Orlando, or you never saw Charlotte, So
you didn't know who those guys were. You never saw
him play unless they made the playoffs or the finals.
It's not that way anymore. Everybody's everybody's accessible, and every
(33:07):
team's accessible.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Okay, what we need to do right now? We need
to give away a pair of those tickets. Yeah, we
do you good with that? Yeah, let's do it all right.
We got a pair of tickets for the game tonight
at the stadium, Dodgers Mets eight six six nine eight seven.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
What calling number you want? I like number six for it? Uh,
number six? Good luck? You're going to the game tonight
When we come back, It's a whole new world.
Speaker 3 (33:41):

Oh Yeah. Today's afternoon delight is Drunk Right Now by
Josh Ross. This song samples Acon's two thousand and eight
hit Right Now, and Ross recruits the five time Grammy
nominee at the featured artist on this trap and the statement.
(34:31):
Ross said that he grew up a fan of Acon's
music and started performing this rendition of the song at
his shows. He recorded the track and sent it to Akon,
who loved it and said he wanted to collaborate on
the song again. Today's afternoon Delight is Drunk right Now
by Josh Ross featuring a Kon. All right, here's a reminder,
(34:56):
a big reminder. Friday.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
What is this Wednesday? We're two days away Thursday, Friday.
All right, We're gonna be at Sketchers on pH at
Crenshaw in Torrents. Will be there twelve to two. Now,
this is the brand new Sketches. It's the grand opening
as a lot of things that are going on for
a limited time. So if you get there early enough,
buy two pairs and get a third pair free of Sketchers.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
But that you're piping smoke it. That's right.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
We're gonna be giving away ten pairs of Dodger tickets
in two hours. Each one will give away on the air.
You can't call in, you have to be there. I'd
say you got a pretty good chance. And given that
we have ten pairs of tickets, we will give a
pair away in the first segment of the show. Oh yeah,
I mean when we get there, we might start the
(35:43):
show given up right one because we're only there two hours,
so right, get there early. We're gonna give away these
ten pairs. But yeah, I agree for it. Let's do
it right out of the gate. Come on the first
thousand people there. We'll score a free sketcher's tote or
hat and the special guest star and I have learned
that the special guest star is requesting fish. You laugh,
(36:06):
It's true. I got this request yesterday. It will be
the man that conducted the best interview we have ever done.
But nooy, Benjamin. It used to play for the Clippers.
Now there's a movie out about Bonoyd Benjamin. I'm not
saying he's coming to promote the movie. I am saying
he's coming for fish.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
It's a stretch. He used to be fried Chicken's, now
it's fish. Huh.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
He wants fish. I got the word from Sean g.
He wants fish, any any particular type of fish or
just fish. Because you know, some people have their preferences.
You know, some people like, you know, it's got to
be stammon, or you know, I kind of like I
like a good orange ruffy or you know, god man,
I like some fried catfish for it.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Come on.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Well, I'm not sure what he wants, but I also
know this, and Kevin, you should jot this down, maybe
give it to Dave Wie. He also wants something he
can take home, food that he.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Can take home, or or some sketches that he can
take home. No, he wants the fish. Oh, he wants
to take a grab bag.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Right, he wants fish there, and then he wants fish
he can take home.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Now, I don't want to stereo top of our special guest,
but something tells me that he's probably a fried Calffish man.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Yeah, I would.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
I would guess that he would not complain if we
brought him a plate of fried catfish.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (37:25):
So catfish pole boy, you know.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Oh don't I love it? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:32):
So what whatever we need to do, I'm just saying
he wants fish and he'll be We're gonna put him
on during the noon hour.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
I think he didn't want some. He didn't want trout, Kevin,
and that what he's.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Saying doesn't strike me as a trout guy. You probably
grow up with the canisar Deans. I don't think he's
gonna that's going jobs too well.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
Yeah, so be there for the noon hour, because I
swear to God, that'll be hilarious. That'll be a lot
of fun. He will tell stories. I think we'll be
laughing so hard we'll cry. And then he'll tell us
stories that will just make us cry because they're so ridiculous.
So either way, he'll be there and it'll be a
lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
We'll see a.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Friday at Sketchers on pch and Crenshaw in Torrents. All Right,
do you hate it when you're on a plane and
somebody behind you or next to you is talking loudly?
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Does it drive you crazy? Oh? Yeah, just loud talking? Yeah, absolutely,
Yeah is that on a plane? And yeah, especially you're
in a crowded like why do you got to talk
so loud? I also hate it, you know, when you're
an airport and people that are on their phones just
talking so loud on their phones, but on the plane itself,
and you're sitting behind or are you're sitting in front
of someone and that conversation is so loud that you
(38:44):
can hear it through your headphones that you already have on. Yeah,
it's very annoying that and kicking the seat.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
So you got that, and then you have this you know,
everybody makes the announcement, you know, uh, fasten your seatbelts.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Here are the safety rules. Some people do it better others.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
To be quite honest, half the time, I can't understand
what they're saying anyway, but that's just me. But you know,
you're supposed to pay attention, but really nobody does.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
So we know that.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
But we know you can hear when the mic is
is cued and somebody's gonna come on. We did the
event in Arizona a couple of years ago. Now it
seems like one hundred years the spring training event when
we flew on Southwest, which by the way, again was
considered the very best one of those they've ever had,
which then negated us ever being invited again.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
But they don't talk bad about that trip, right. People
are still talking about that trip. It was not too long.
It was mid mid April. Yeah, ran it's someone at
Dodger Statum that was on that trip and asked me,
when are you guys going to do that again? When
are you guys gonna do that again? And I said
probably never. It was so successful we will never do
(39:55):
it again. Correct. But it was on that trip.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
If do you remember correctly that you Rodney Pete Yes
actually took the microphone that I did and started making
announcements to the plane.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
That I did. I did not sing, mind you, but
I just I did make announcements as the plane was
at thirty thousand feet and descending into Phoenix. It was fun.
We had a good time.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, but I mean the announcements were funny. People laughed.
You know, you did a good job on the mic.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
All right, now, let's let you hear some sound from
a recent trip where someone else took the mic as
a turn.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
I take every trip, I drug every pet, I make,
every trolls the place I know where I cannot go.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Where I love.
Speaker 6 (40:48):
You see the line with this guy, you can see
it calls me and no one knows a furia goal.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Oh he's the winds in.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
I sail on the sea, Stafey behind me for them.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
No, if I go, there's just no telling how far
I'll go.
Speaker 6 (41:12):
I know everybody on the side of the tap.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
That went on for two minutes. That went on for
two minutes.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
The flight attendant took the microphone to start making announcements,
and then this young lady broke into Disney song for
two minutes. It's a video that has over thirty three
point two million views. Several passengers were humming along, others
were singing. Not everybody enjoyed it. Somebody said this is
(41:42):
actually my worst nightmare in personal hell. A second person said,
I'd rather be inside Ocean Gate. That was the Titan
submarine that exploded and imploded, I should say in twenty
twenty three. All right, So if you were sitting on
the plane and this curl broke into disney Verse for
(42:03):
two minutes, what would you do?
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Hold was this girl?
Speaker 4 (42:11):
I don't think we fully know, but i'd say somewhere
between nine and twelve.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
Yeah, she was thirty seven? Yeah, no, no, thirty seven. Yeah.
You know the thing about it, like you said, it
went on for two minutes, which is probably a minute
and forty five seconds too long. It's cute, you know,
(42:37):
it's cute. I guess part of it would depend on
what kind of mood I am I'm in, you know,
because airports and planes can put you in. If the
plane was delayed for three hours and then I got
on and I had to hear that, I'd be I'd
be in a bad mood. But you know, I guess
I didn't. I wouldn't mind it too much. I mean,
(42:59):
see he could sing a little bit, I guess, but
not great. But you gotta believe it was all her
parents that forced her to go do that had to be,
had to be. I don't think a girl nine to
twelve is gonna just jump up on the mic and
tell the flight attendant she wants to sing in front
of everybody. That was something the mom pushed her to do,
(43:22):
or dad pushed her to do.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Can I toss this into the mix? Would it make
a difference? What the flight was being delayed for two
hours in circling?
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Oh it was, yes, so there was a delay in
it in landing, yes, not taking off. So this was
in the air and there was a delay for them
to land till the girl tried to entertain the crowd.
And that's that does make a difference, as people are
on edge and a little restless, and you know, take
(43:55):
the it, take that discress off a little bit. Yeah,
that puts it in a different light. What about you, Freddie,
what would you do?
Speaker 1 (44:04):
I don't think i'd mind. And the reason I wouldn't
mind is I'd be sound asleep. I'm like a horse.
I can sleep standing up. Are you one of these people?
You get on the plane? All right, you're in, You're
buckled in. I have fallen asleep many times before the
plane even took off. I have fallen asleep to a
(44:26):
point where I woke up. I didn't even know the
plane was flying. I had no idea. Yeah, I used
to be able to fly and really sleep on a plane.
Now I can't do it. I have a hard time
sleeping on a plane, which is terrible because I do
like to sleep. I used to love to sleep on
(44:47):
a plane, but I can't. I can't get there now.
For whatever reason, I can't. I can't get it. I
can't get comfortable, I can't get right, I can't get
a good can't get a good sleep. And certainly if
it's shorter than three hours, then I definitely can't get
a sleep in or a nap in. But I guess
(45:08):
you know I wouldn't. I wouldn't mind it too much.
I mean, I know from what I understand. There were
it was mixed reviews.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Red right, Yeah, like a lot of people were like,
I hated this, this is terrible, And most people were, Oh,
it's cute, it's cute, but again it probably went on
a little too long, you shit, maybe saying a couple
verses and.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Just taking a seat and not the whole thing and
take it a seat. Yeah, but all did I say this?
Although on the Dodger tickets? Oh wait to go, hold
hold great job. We've got more tickets to give away
this upcoming hour. All right, when we come back. Bill
plunk it, oh see register joins the program. All over
(45:50):
the Dodgers, and let's talk about what happened at the
stadium last night.
