Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right back in on the final hour Rogan and
Rodney on AM five to seventy LA Sports. Still got
those Dodger tickets to give away in this hour between
now and three o'clock you will have a chance to
win a pair of Dodger tickets Dodgers Cardinals on August
fourth at Dodger Stadium. Thanks again for Fred Rogan for
jumping in on the Rogan and Rodney Show. As weird
as that sounds to say. Rogan again filling in for
(00:22):
Tim Conway on KFI later this afternoon. But right now, Adam,
we have a special guest. We got some more Dodger
talk coming up.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, let's get a little Q and A.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Now's the time for a man with a voice so rich,
so deep. He makes Sam Elliott and Morgan Freeman sound
like they just sucked on some helium in comparison. At least.
This is our friend Bill Plunkett. We had him first
in og from the O C Register. He's been covering
the Dodgers for years and he always sounds like he
(00:50):
has the best phone in the world. Bill, Thanks for
coming back on with the fn A podcast filling in
for Fred and Rodney. Gosh damn.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You sound.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Big build up?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
No, no, no, the build up remains Bill you.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Good, Yeah, I got you?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
All right, Let's start with this. Why are the Dodgers
in this bad of a place once again before the
All Star break? Is it just injuries? Is it just
a little bit of fatigue complacency, or is this something
where maybe they got to foot out the door for
the All Star break?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
It is really remarkable how similar everything is to last season.
The picture injuries. Check next months, he goes down and
suddenly the offense isn't quite as strong. Check. Uh. They
go on a road trip before the break and can't
seem to win. They Last year it was Philly in
Detroit they went one in five. This time it's Milwaukee
(01:58):
and San Francisco. They're owing three. So it's really remarkable
how simplar it is. And I don't you know, spoiler alert,
but if you remember, it turned out pretty well last year,
so I wouldn't panic.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
They only won in five games over there Somodica planning
about that, but considering all the injuries that are impacting
them right at this moment, Freddie Freeman says he's fine.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
A lot of people believe that he is not. You
don't go from being batting three eighty to batting two
hundred for the better part of a month, and most
likely that foot probably still bothering him at this point
in time. Edmund's banged up. Taya Hernandez is banged up.
There's a thought Adam and I talked about this early
in the show. Maybe you give a couple of these
guys a breather. Don't sit them the entire series this weekend,
but maybe give a couple of guys a couple of
(02:41):
days off so they can catch their breadth a bit
going into the All Star break. Do you think one,
the Dodgers will do that, and two the Dodgers should
do that, or is this series way too important becaus
a division opponent that's nipping at your heels.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, I don't see that One or two games off
this weekend does a whole lot of good. I will say,
if you're a guy like Freddie Freeman who's going to
the All Star Game and going to Atlanta for the
All Star Game, that's not going to be a break.
It is amazing. I've been going to the All Star
Game on and off for about thirty years. Thirty five years.
(03:16):
It is amazing how it's changed over the years. The
demands on the players have just grown and grown and grown.
There was a year when the game was in its
city field, when in city field was fairly new, and
I was walking to the National League team's clubhouse and
I passed a room they had set up for players
(03:38):
to come in and sign memorabilia and souvenirs and so on.
It was massive. It was tables loaded with this stuff.
Guys just had to go in there and sign, sign,
and sign for hours at a time. Then there's all
the events they got to go to. It really isn't
a break for the guys that go there. My concern,
(04:00):
if I'm a Dodger fan, would be more about Mookie
Betts than any of the other guys, because there's he
just doesn't look like himself. It's not good. Uh. You know,
guys can get old overnight, and you almost get that
feeling with MOOKI Right now, he doesn't have an injury
to peg it on, but he's he's only been hot
(04:23):
for a couple of weeks at a time during the
con the first half. He's having the worst season of
his career, so that worries me more than than Freddie
Freeman or Tay Oscar who probably will be back in
the lineup tonight, Max months. He should be back sometime
late August. You know. That's That's the thing that really
(04:43):
stands out for me.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Is there precedent for this with smaller guys in baseball
like Mookie losing that explosiveness? I remember for the pitching side,
Lenskam lost it kind of out of nowhere. But when
you're a dominutive like that, can this happen for I
guess you know, Jose al Tuve is still going what's
going on with Moki here?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Yeah, that's a good question. I think the general history
is the opposite that the smaller guys age better, though, yeah,
that might be. It might be a little difference because
Mookie does not seem to be driving the ball with
the same authority. Part of the reason they wanted to
(05:28):
move him to the infield was because they thought he
would age better as an infielder than an outfielder. So
it's kind of a reverse there. But you're you're right.
If you watch his at bats, there's a lot of
weak fly balls or medium depth fly balls, a lot
of pop ups. It's almost like he needs to start
becoming a different type of hitter and not go for
(05:51):
the for the power as much. But you know, does
the bat speed diminish a little? Yeah? I think it
does at this age. So it would be troublesome to
me if I were watching from the Dodgers' front office.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Someone else who's slumping, Bill, And this is Bill plunking
from the OCI register joining us on Rogan and Rodney.
Kevin figures Adam Auslin's filling in for Fred and Rodney
when it comes to Showeyotani because he's been struggling too,
and to the best of our knowledge, at least there's
no injury concerns.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Adam.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
You allude to something earlier this week that is slump
may coincide with the fact that he started pitching, but
he's not doing that on a daily basis at this
point in time.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I know it's a casual take, but I had to
do it.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Now well as someone who's around the team, around the
team every single day. Bill, do you have any inkling
as to why Otani could be struggling or is he
just simply mired in a slump.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I think it might be the people around him have
a little bit to do with it. He's a lot
easier to deal with when he's, you know, when there's
nobody on in front of him, or when Mookie benz
Bets is hitting two twenty behind him. So I think
that's a big factor. I don't see how the pitching
thing could not affect. His daily routine has just become
(07:05):
so much more complicated. You know, he's got to he's
got to do his hitting prep, he's got to do
his pitching prep. He's got to do his game planning
for the days when he is going to pitch.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Routine oriented bill. I hear there are very sticklers to that.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
They love it. The one hundred and sixty two game season.
You tend to get into those kind of things, and
I just don't see how it can't be affected.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
I think that's fair.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
I also feel like it comes at the wrong time
because normally they probably would move Moki in front of him,
right if Muki was hitting and Otani wasn't, Well, there's
your guy to get on base, so Altani can see
better pitches and get some RBIs.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
It feels like.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Anything that can go wrong is going wrong right now.
Are there any lineup changes where they could just rearrange things.
I know the Calvary is not necessarily on the way yet,
although Tayo could be going tonight, Bill, do you have
an update on that.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Yeah, I do expect him to be back in the lineup.
That'll help a little bit, But he was slumping for
a while before he got hurt, so that I don't
know that he's the catalyst that will turn things around.
It's gonna be a rough weekend and they get Logan
Webb tonight and Robbie Ray on Sunday, so I don't
think that this is the time for them to just
(08:26):
suddenly explode and break out. But I don't know that
rearranging things that will make that much of a difference.
You know, we all been pushing for Hasan Kim to
get more playing time, but he's kind of, you know,
had a little course correction there and come back to
earth a little bit over the last week or two.
(08:49):
You know, Will Smith is doing great, and maybe you
pop him into the three spot ahead of Freddy Freeman,
which they've done against some left handers. It's you know,
the lineup is what it is, and it's just about
guys getting back to their expected production.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
How about the pitching staff. We'll start with the starting pitches.
We know there's a litany of injuries and issues with
a bullpen too, but the starters seem to be getting healthy.
You know that Blake Snell had his reab assignment last night.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Looked good.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Obviously, Tyler Glassnell looked very solid in his first outing
back with Milwaukee. I guess a big question people are
asking is can the Dodgers count on these guys staying
healthy for the stretch run of the season or should
they go out and get even if it's a fourth
or a fifth starter, just some sort of starting arms
that can help them in the back end of the season,
just in case some of these guys with injury histories
(09:41):
don't hold up and become the productive players they thought
they'd be.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, I've never seen a whole lot of fuel behind
the smoke with all these speculation and about starting pitchers.
I just think the front office is convinced that they
have enough starting pitch. They just need to get him
back healthy. You know, we saw Tyler Glass now in Milwaukee.
(10:05):
He's back in the Rocks in the rotation. Blake Snell
should be back in the rotation within him. Probably a
week or two after the All Star break, you know, Yeah,
I'm amoto Kershaw may are still there. You got Otani
stretching out. Maybe at some point he pitches like an
actual starting pitcher. You got im at Shechan. You know,
(10:26):
if they if they have to, they can reach down
for a guy like Dustin Rubleski again, So I don't
see the starting pitching as a real issue, not like
it was last year when they you know, absolutely had
to go out and get Flaherty. I'd be more inclined to,
you know, bolster the bolt in a little bit, get
(10:46):
another arm or two there for the stretch run in October.
But I you know, going out and get a left
handed bat if you can find one, wouldn't be a
bad idea because Michael Confordo certainly hasn't proven be what
they thought he was going to be.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, how much longer of at leash do they give Confordo?
I mean, obviously we're past we're getting to the All
Star break at this point, and he's still hitting under
the Mendoza line. You need to have some production in
that lineup, especially right now the way that guys are performing.
I guess how much longer of at leash do you
give him? And then I guess who else do you
have to go to inside of the organization without going
into the trade market.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Yeah, you're going outside to find somebody if that's the
way they decide to go, And I think that's where
the leash ends, is the trade deadline. I think that's
kind of what they've been thinking all along. You know,
they just put up with him hoping that he turned
it around, but there have been no signs that he will,
So I think it makes a lot of sense to
(11:45):
go out and get a left handed bat at the
trade deadline and de emphasize Michael CONFORDO.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, Bill, you mentioned the bullpen a minute ago two
when obviously they've had their share of issues. Effectiveness, injuries
run the gamut all the issues they've had with the bully.
At this point in time, do you go out and
try to be aggressive to bring in a closer? Is
it a middle relieving arm because Tanner Scott I feel
like he's been more down than up despite what the
numbers may or may not say. Blake Trin is on
a rehab assignment. Who knows when he'll be back. Evan
(12:13):
Phillips is out for the season. Kirby Yates has been
okay but not great. These are all your high leverage guys.
Do you think there's gonna be an emphasis on from
the Dodger front office to go out and get a
front of the line, if available, front of the line
closer type to put in high leverage roles at least
until Tanner Scott figures out whatever his issues may be.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Yeah, makes a lot more sense to me to go
that direction because you've subtracted one of those key pieces
in Evan Phillips. It's one thing to go along during
the regular season without and it's another to go into
the October without that multiple piece back into the bullpen.
(12:52):
You haven't been impressed with Yates, don't you know. Not
real solid there. I think they still feel good about
Tanner Scott. I think the other pieces, guys like Alex
Vesia Ben Casparius are good. But getting what you know,
Michael Kopak is probably not going to be back until September,
So getting another guy of that caliber, that high leverage caliber,
(13:16):
that that seems to me it should be a priority.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Bill Plunkett's pham may have suffered from sounding like it
was underwater earlier, maybe because McCovey cove.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
And all that.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
So Bill, you sound great. Now, what is there any
silver laune? I guess to playing the Giants tonight? Can
this playing a familiar foe? I guess for the Dodgers?
Wake them up? Can this actually be a positive?
Speaker 4 (13:40):
I suppose if you want to want to say that,
But ask me on Monday, you know, and when we
can look back on it, it makes a lot more sense.
I think it's gonna be a tough series. Logan webb today,
Robbie Ray Sunday. That's not an easy assignment. So you know,
when you when your offense is already leaking oil and
dropping parts. So you know, maybe maybe not such a
(14:04):
great idea to play play here now. But when these
these teams get together, weird things happen. You never know.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Lastly, Bill, if you knew I was an advocate for
Clayton Kershaw starting in the All Star Game, would you
have still done the interview with us?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Of course, I'm used to you saying ridiculous thing.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
That's a perfect dismount for Bill Plunkett. I love it,
Bill Plunckett, Oh c RS. Where you can find him
on x. Bill Plunkett for the Orange County Resident Register,
joining us here on Rogan and Rodney. Bill, thanks so
much for your time. As always, we appreciate it. And uh,
if we don't talk to you, which we probably won't
enjoy the All Star break.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Yeah, you guys, enjoy your JV day there on the radio.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
We're trying I try our best.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Bill Plunkett over here, bat in one thousand.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Your heart.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Let that height Outford needs to go into the cage
with Bill. We love Bill Plunkett.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
He's been coming on with us for years and he
really does have the best voice in the best information
on the beat with the Dodgers all season long.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
So am five to seventy LA Sports Kevin Figures Adam
Alston in for the guys. We'll take a short break

(15:49):
five to seventy LA Sports. It's brought to you by
Zensh handcrafted sushi, made fresh daily at raups near the
deli counter.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Thanks again, Bill Pluckt from the OC Register for coming
on last segment talking Dodgers with us, even though he
threw a little bit of hate through.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
You have to give us the JV shot on the
way out the door.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
But not the first guest to hate on us today.
One guest hated so hard he didn't show up. Cancel completely.
The hell, Bill, you got beat by somebody else. I'll
give out the name that follow out of my on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
That's quite right.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
So earlier today we're talking about Brownie, we're talking about
the Lakers. In this schism between the Lakers and Lebron James.
Where does Brownie fit In. He kind of got caught
in the crosshairs a little bit on Lebron's own show,
Mine the Game is still going?
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Oh is it? With him and Steve Nash?
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Right, No more, Jj Reddick, he's too focused on coaching now,
but is a former coach and an All NBA Hall
of Famer in Steve Nash now broadcaster.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I believe he's going to be one of the Amazon guys.
I believe Blake Griffin he's on one of them. He's
on either Amazon or NBC.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Steve Nash, I know Iron Eagle's going to be on Amazon,
will be listening.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
With his great, infectious enthusiasm on the call. I can
only way I can wait to hear Steve Nash huh.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah, he is kind of mellow and low key in NPR.
But this was a bite from the most recent episode
of Mind the Game where I think unintentionally Bronnie James
was getting hate from his own dad.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Listen to this.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I don't know if the six Too and Underguard is
at a premium no more as a starter, maybe as
a backup, but you have to be You just talked.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
About this the last it's gotten compressed. It has it's compressed.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
It's that like either the Donovan Mitchell Holiday six three,
or it's you.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Gotta be you can't get picked on defense. That's the thing,
because we're playing such the pick on game that they
will really literally if you can't guard, they will bring
you up every place every foot six'. One and you're
not a bulldog like The Daveion, mitchew, Yeah Jue holidays
on the defense, side or you're not an offensive lot
(18:10):
Like kyrie where you can score on do seven feet.
Easily AND i sold.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
THAT i just can't see it what you.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Think, okay here's WHAT i, Think, katie this is WHAT i.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Think this is.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Hilarious, Unintentionally Kevin durant is bringing up on mind the
game how small guards can't play in today's league because
they get picked on because there's so much matchup. Hunting
they will put you in the action on the high
pick and, rolls that's what everybody runs because it's so
hard to defend over and over. Again he's talking about
(18:43):
specifically guys that are like six to one Under. Kevin
how tall Is Brownie, james BECAUSE i sources say At
Summer league he's even shorter than people think.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
SO i believe he's officially listed at six to, two
but there are questions about, that like how tall was
he at us see then The, combine because before The
combine last year he was checked in at a certain
height and some people were, like really pushing five to
eleven six?
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Feet he's got those lit in.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
There he has The.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Bart simpson you, know blowpops on the bottom of his,
shoes going.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
This is hilarious Because Kevin dreda saying all that While
lebron is sitting next to, Him, yeah you're.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Right, yep. Yep can't play in this league if you're
six to. Two can't do. It can't do.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
It at Least lebron in his head is, like but
they ain't talking about my son, though you.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Know but that's. Different that's different LIKE Dj pooh And,
Friday but that was. Different was? It is? IT i
don't think. SO i THINK kd is spot. On there are.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Exceptions Steph curry maybe six two six' three somewhere in.
That range he's the greatest. Shooter Ever davion mitchell was
one of the best defenders in College, at baylor they
won the. National championship it's not the Same Thing ronnie
james has not shown. Elite level to be that height
(19:58):
and play in, this league you better be a great
shooter a. Great defender probably both are great on.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
The ball he's, Not, great, yeah well and he never
will be able to at least that's what a lot
of people who follow this and no MORE than, i do.
They say he can work in the gym as much.
As possible like that ad that. Innate ability he can
spend hours in.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
The gym the on ball guard is just not gonna work.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
For him his bread is gonna be buttered as a
defender and as a guy that's gonna be a catch and. Shoot,
player now you can learn, To shoot jason kid didn't learn,
to shoot and see was, thirty five so.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
His dad learned to shoot at, thirty seven, Thirty.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Eight so it's not that, can happen, you know with
with hours in, The, gym now is that gonna be
enough to still be able to get you on.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
The floor you're gonna be a enough.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Of a good outside shooter to make up for the
fact that you're probably not as much of a bulldog
as like these guys are Talking About davion Mitchell Or,
drew holliday two of the better perimeter defenders the league
has seen in the last, you know five.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Six years You're Not jalen Brunson. At, villanova yeah he's, another,
guy right you'll talk about. A, Bulldog yes and, nobody
thought by, the way then he would translate to being.
This good even while he was in the league getting
fifteen points a Game for dallas Next To, luka doncis
everybody still questioned the contract That The New york knicks,
gave him which turned out to be, a bargain and
(21:13):
partially it was because of. His, SIZE well browni has squashed.
A grape yet he's not getting fifteen points. Per game
he had seventeen to one game, last season and you
gotta give. Him credit if you're saying he can't play in,
the league and they get seventeen points IN an, nba
game you can't, be, like well it to only because
they were getting. Blown, out no he got seventeen points
IN an.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Nba, GAME well i, will say it's not like he
looked like he doesn't belong even In the summer league,
so far which at times LAST year i think you
can argue whether or not he even belonged to be
on the floor with a lot of.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
THOSE guys i did say he looked dangerously far away
from BEING an.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
NBA player i wouldn't say, that now to be honest,
With you i'd still say he still has a ways,
to go and at this point, in time if he
were ON an, nba roster he'd be the eleventh twelve
man off to coming off. The bench but there is,
A room there is room for him there if he continues,
to work is. My point like HE has i think
a decent enough to defensive, skill set he has. The
wingspan now will he ever be a lockdown, Defensive player,
(22:04):
Probably not but can he be good enough to be a,
backup which by, The Way kevin durant, did SAY or
i don't know if it was Him of lebron who
said in that last bite that, you played you know
to be a, backup sure which most people thought the
Ceiling For bronni james was a backup guard getting eight
to fifty fourteen minutes off the, bench anyway.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Because you're going up against second string guys as. A,
backup correct he will be hunted more if he's in the.
Starting lineup if he's out There With, lebron james, of
course but even as a backup like it doesn't pass
the smell test.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Right, now yes he's young enough to, get better twenty.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Years old IT'S just i don't think he's getting A
taller i don't think he's that young to where he's. Still,
growing no he's not gonna get, any taller that's.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
For sure he's a.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
GOOD athlete i don't think he is a. Great athlete
he didn't Get the bunnies to the level you would
like from. His dad He's Not gerald green putting his
entire head over. The rim and you can say he's
only six, to, Two Okay, robert pack there's plenty of.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Sure dudes how Tall Is ja morant, six two six.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Y three he doesn't have anything that pops as oh
this guy does this one thing great that will translate TO.
The nba it is all just if he. GETS better
i just think, the, ceiling though is, pretty low and
the floor's pretty low too because of. His height that's
(23:27):
the problem. For Him and i'm Not saying i'm rooting.
Against him i'm good. With it i'll be one of
the kids asking for, his autograph holds the jersey in Summer.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
League, Ronnie bronnie i'll do it all. LIKE whatever.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
I think it's whatever you Think Of. LEBRON james i
don't get the people that Hate. ON bronnie I don't
brianie didn't do anything trying to be fair with analysis
on a.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
BASKETBALL game i.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Understand it so with that, being said there was a
report this morning THAT and i don't think it comes
as a shock to, many people but it. Is, interesting
nonetheless if and When the lakers part Weighs With, Lebron,
James brian he's not gonna be that far.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Behind package deal.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Probably, Right yeah so So if lebron signs a free
agent deal, with Whoever, The celtics i'm just throwing a name. Out,
there well the dot With the lakers just does, you
know Send Off bronnie james for cash Considerations.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
To boston so we can be with.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
HIS dad, i Mean if lebron really wants to stick
it To, the lakers he would Go. To boston those
things are that bad that he goes with their. Arch
rival i'm taking, my son my son, with me and.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
They're like, OH damn i Really.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Hurt.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Lebron thanks that's kind of the Position the lakers are in.
Right now, Oh shucks lebron wants. To leave, oh well
if that's what, HE wants i guess we'll have to.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Do it and your little.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
SON too i was not gonna say that that's what
you were, alluding to.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
But it does feel like that with what's happening between.
Them two when you Brought up, shack earlier and in,
Some ways lebron Is the shack in this scenario in
two thousand, and four When the lakers chose between Him And,
kobe bryant and they did Choose because kobe Used the
clippers as leverage for them To. Trade shack there was
(25:04):
no other reason to. Do it he could get the
same amount of money From the clippers Or. The lakers
he flirted With, the clippers and then a Day after shack,
was traded he signed, seven years one hundred and twenty.
Million dollars i'm not saying there's that level of bad
Blood between Luca, and lebron and that's THE reason i
don't think there's any issue between. Them, too well based
ON that, espn article.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
They're, Good YEAH like, I, Mean lebron lebron's Camp and
luca's camp have been talking this. Entire time here's what we're,
Gonna do here's what we. Wanna DO we i think
there was a quote in There For rich paul who
talked To, the lakers who Talked To Luca Bron doncicic
it's manager and, say it no matter what Happens between
lebron and, the franchise You and luca. Are good we
have a. Good relationship so that personally between the two,
(25:45):
of them it sounds to. Be fine there's a business
aspect to It that's Rubb and Clutch and lebron the.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Wrong, way yeah my Comparison to Shaq and kobe isn't
because of. Their relationship it's the franchiseer's relationship to having
this new, shiny, toy right that's twenty six years of
age to. Build around kobe was maybe twenty four to
twenty five when they moved On. From shaq shaq was.
Still good He WAS All Nba first team that two
(26:11):
thousand and four to three to zero four last season
where they lost To The detroit pistons IN The. Nba
finals lebron was Second TEAM all nba this. Past season
you can make the case he's still a top ten
player in. The league but if you're looking at more
of a clean slate with a new era and some
of that new era, fresh smell you probably should just
(26:35):
rip the bad date off and get over. It NOW
and i fully believe both sides wanted. To happen they're
just too afraid for that. Pr hit nobody wants to
look like the. Bad guy you can't.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Be afraid you're a multi billion. Dollar franchise how Much
Did mark walter pay in his group to Buy the
laker franchise at this point? In time suck, it, up
big tough decisions have to.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Be made put your big boy pants On, his Kobe
as kobe, Would.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Say yeah like tough. Decisions happened this is this is
a business. Of sports there's sentimental. Value too look if
You Put genie bus in a closed door and turned
off all the cameras in no audio, or anything, and
said if you knew now what, you knew then would
you Have Given kobe bryant that three year extension or
two year extension that you, Gave him she'd probably.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Say.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
NO see i think maybe they would double down, and
say now that was for past. Work done That's because
kobe is an Icon he's LA's. Favorite son you have to.
Do that lebron.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Is not that, is true And maybe i'll. Revise that
do you think that.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Was the most prudent move for the franchise and the
health of the franchise and trying. TO win i think
she would, say no but out of respect for my
father and how he built this organization and how we
pay respect, to, stars yes TO which i, would, say
sure we Don't Embrace lebron james the same way We
embrace Kobe or shack or some. Other kareem but he
(27:52):
still is here for a long period. Of time he
still helped you win. A championship, he came as, you
mentioned when they were averaging twenty wins.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Per season that has to stand. For something you were In,
the dolgrums you.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Were nowhere you at least owe him that respect to
sit down and have a conversation, and say either we're
moving in a, Different direction you're no longer the. Focal
point we're moving in a, different direction we no longer
want you to be here. At all but to just
totally ghost, the guy which again is what it seems
like from, this reporting is just a bad look By.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
The.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Laker organization people are looking for the obvious real world
implications of THIS. NEW cba i think if you didn't
have this second aprons like a hard cap, for teams
they're scared as Hell of It's like deebo coming on
the bike like it's. It's bad this is The alternate,
Jaws music devo's Music. From friday It. Is friday It's
(28:40):
A friday friday here ON the, fna show filling In
for Rogan. And roddy but this is SOMETHING where i
think in A, different cba they're not as worried about
the fifty three million odes. Lebron chases and maybe he
would have that extension already because they could still build all.
Around them it's the fear of THE new cba that
(29:00):
probably has put them in such a difficult position where
we're talking about, this story.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
And, generally speaking they're not the. Only ones the entire.
League is this is something all of them are gonna have. To,
face here something that you. Can face There's other dodger
