Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now arn't we continue on Fred Rugan Rodney Pete at
a five seventy LA Sports Dodgers back home tonight, opening
against the Cincinnati Reds. We'll join David Vassy out at
the stadium just a little bit. Just got some word
Ron Washington. It's back with the Angels. Rodney he stepped aside.
Obviously it was health. Uh we now find out he
(00:23):
had bypass surgery. Mm hm. He's glad that he's back.
And from what the story says, he is stop smoking,
which is good because Ron was a smoker. And why
you just to look like that? Why you look like that?
(00:45):
Because I had he said, he said he stopped smoking.
I've got the wrong thing to say about it. Should
I say it anyway? Yeah? Well you always do, but
go ahead, yes, at this point, is it going to
make a difference, Wow, make a difference that he stopped
(01:05):
smoking because it's already in him. Is that what you're saying?
He smoked for like forty years? Yes? Yes, it was
a chronic smoker. Okay, well yes, so if damage is
done that what I was saying, Fred, Damn, I just
I don't know if you have smoked for forty years?
Forty years. You go. I gotta be honest. Something struck me.
(01:29):
I've stopped smoking, You've done it for forty years and
you're good. What the hell? No, it's not good for
your heart though, because they had to bypass. That makes sense. Yeah,
that makes sense. It took that. It took that to
get him to stop smoking. So hopefully this helps him. Well,
it's good, he's okay. Now let's bring on our good buddy,
(01:51):
David Bassay. Dave, good afternoon to you.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Hey, good afternoon to you guys. It's only ninety four degrees.
I guess we're on a cooling wave now, Dave.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Before we get into the Dodgers and the game in
San Diego and what to look forward to. When you
do sports in at LA and you really do a
really good job at that, is it different than when
you do your radio stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
It is different because the pregame show is mostly wrapped
around Dave Roberts and what he has to say. Sometimes
we'll mix in, like for this weekend, some of the
important things that were said by Miguel Rojas, Will Smith
and Dave Roberts after Saturday night's game and during the game.
You know the best part about that is is having
(02:42):
a front row seat and really getting the temperature of
the team, being right next to the dugout and you know,
being in a clubhouse after losing, you know, two tough
games to the Padres. That's much much different as well.
But this is why I tell people like TV as
you know, oh guys, uh, you have to get to
(03:03):
the point of what you want to say quickly because
there is a minimal amount of time. And I'm just
the spice to the meat and potatoes of Joe and
Oral and on Dodger Talk. That's that's my show. That's
my blank canvas to talk and put my foot in
my mouth or do whatever for That's a whole blank
(03:24):
canvas for ninety minutes. So that's the biggest difference.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, you're right. I mean TV is basically soundbites and
you've got to have it in a quick bite and
move on as as opposed to radio, when you can
be like Fred and just kind of ramble and ramble
and ramble and ramble and as long as you want.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I don't. I don't ramble like Fred.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
You but I'm saying radio you can.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
And I like Fred, I don't put the La Times
on my show, I set the record straight with Mookie
Betts about what the LA Times rights.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, see see what I'm saying. See, But that's why
we come.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
To you, Dave fred Fred did you ever did you
play back what Mookie Benz told us on on Dodgers
Radio and Sports Net LA on Friday? Did you set
the record straight about what Kevin Baxter wrote in Denver?
Speaker 1 (04:17):
We did not, because we weren't on after he when
he said it Friday. What did he say?
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah? Well he said it was somebody just making stuff up.
And I'm very accessible. It was poor for that writer
not to come ask me instead of.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Just put it out there.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Making things up. What was said in that office.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Right because that was all old. They had a meeting
about him moving to right field that became it went
viral after that, and so yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
And I had today was the first day of school
for my kids, and I had a dad come up
to me and ask me if it was true. So,
I mean, when you write something like that and the
in LA Times, people are going to believe it to
be factual, and ninety nine point nine percent of the
time it is, but this time it wasn't. And it
(05:10):
created a whole stir And if you just take a
step back and realize, if the Dodgers were really talking
to Mookie Bets about moving to right field, don't you
think ta Oscar Hernandez would be in that office as well?
And do you really believe the Dodgers, after knowing the
way they operate over the last ten plus years, that
(05:31):
they would have a knee jerk reaction to a bad
played game by one player. That's not their style. But
Mookie Beds is still upset about it because it's not true.
And now people are again bringing up the fact that
right field would be a good place for him when
he's playing great shortstop.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
This great shortstop. I mean, he's making play a shortstop
that if you didn't know he was a right fielder,
you would think he played shortstop his whole career. Hey,
he is making tremendous plays, which is great. Dave, you
mentioned working you know, TV and being right next to
the clubhouse. The vibe that you felt there, What was
(06:16):
that like? And then the vibe of the team, you know,
eventually getting that win on Sunday after losing two games
on Friday and Saturday. What's the vibe when they finished up.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Well, I could just tell you when Taoscar Hernandez hit
that fly ball that looked to be a Grand Slam
instead of sacrifice fly, there was a feeling out of
that dugout here we go again. But when Freddie Freeman
tied the game up with his home run on one
hundred and seven miles an hour off the bat, that
gave the Dodgers some good feelings in that dugout. And man,
(06:49):
when Dalton Rushing hid his go ahead home run, there
certainly was even more of that. And the Dodgers, certainly,
you know, were much happy year as a group with
their bats than they had been in recent on this
entire road trip.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
In fact, Dave is now they are even with the
Padres and everybody gets ready to ahead for home. If
I said to you, who are the Dodgers, what would
you say?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
They're a team that depends on their superstars and they're
starting pitching. I think the identity is really clear. I
think they're looking for their the superstars to get on base,
to have good at bats, and to carry them. I
mean that's the way this is built. I mean their
identity is to hit home runs.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah. So so, Dave, as you as you look at
it and guys are starting to come back. It was
good to see, you know, Tannor Scott and Kirby Yates
come back and get some work. Glass now Yamamoto and
Blake Snell back now as they start to get healthy,
what is what concern you going forward as they get
(08:02):
you know, make this push to win the West again
and get into the postseason, what concerns you more? Is
it the bullpen, the starting pitching, the defense, or the
offense or lack thereof of offense.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Well, that's a great question, Rodney, because things are going
to change here in the next couple of weeks. Max
Mounsey is going to start facing pitchers this week on
this home stand. He's expected return in the next seven
to ten days, which is a lot sooner than what
we all thought. Again, Key k Hernandez is going to
be activated either tomorrow or Wednesday, and Tommy Edmond is
(08:40):
on his way back. So that is going to help
the offense and the outfield defense. So it's hard for
me to answer that question right now because things are
going to look a lot different even on the next
next week. So right now, for me, the biggest concern
is the offense and getting more consistency from the offense.
(09:03):
They have not had that since they were nine games
ahead of the Padres because of a lot of different factors.
But that would be the biggest concern right now is
offensive consistency. And they have thirty one more games to
go to try to get things consistent. Because they are good.
(09:23):
We saw it last night or yesterday, we saw it
in Colorado a couple of games. But can they sustain
it and string it together? That's what I want to see.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, and it feels like Dave, you remember, you know,
a couple of years ago and they were rolling and
Dodgers or the Dodgers. Basically they talked about passing the baton.
They talk about getting the pitch count up on the
starting pitchers of opposing teams, like they did, you know,
Preveta the other day and he threw almost thirty pitches
(09:53):
in the first inning. But then they only got one
run on a basis loaded nobody out in the first inning. Yeah,
Tascar almost hit the Grand Slam, but they still only
got one run. As they go forward, the quality of
at bats feels like it's so much different, even with
superstar like Otani feels like he's swinging at so many
(10:13):
bad pitches and not taking walks. Dave, has that been
something that's been addressed by them.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah, Dave Roberts said he has had individual conversations with
some of these guys and they've had talks amongst each
others amongst each other, So that is something that they're
aware of Rodney top to bottom. And yesterday before the game,
Dave Roberts was confident they would have better at bats
and change it. They did. Now, let's see if they
(10:41):
can do it tonight. I mean, we've seen them do
it one or two games, but let's see them string
this together for this entire home stand. That's the challenge.
Keep the focus, keep the edge, and keep the approach
for the entire home stand. The Dodgers have not been
able to do that in the last six to eight weeks.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Dave. When you mentioned guys coming back, and if you did,
I apologize I didn't hear Kim. Is he almost back?
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Yeah, he's actually playing rehab games at City. But you
know he's gonna be part of the equation for the Dodgers,
and you know he's a bench player. He's coming off
the bench spot starting Max Monthsey, Tommy Edmond. Those are
key guys that you need back and healthy to perform
at the high level that we know they can perform.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Final question for you, Dave, we know you got to
run left field when everybody's back. What happens to Confordo?
Did we lose Dave? We lost him? We lost him
on that quest right at that moment. The final question,
(11:51):
perhaps the biggest question, what happens to Confordo? Kevin? Do
we think he's done or we're going to try to
call him back for a woman. I think he's done,
he's on area. Well, we'll worry about that tomorrow. What
happens to Confordo? I'll tell you you tell me Fred
answer for Dave Bessay, what happens to Conforto? No, he's
gonna it's not gonna be good. It's not gonna be good. Right,
(12:16):
he'll play from time to time, Yeah, play stramatically. This
is terrible, And I know he gets paid a lot
of money. I don't really know him. I really feel
badly for him. Oh yeah, coming here one year. We
all know the drill, Ti Oscar Hernandez, guys like that.
I'm gonna come here and get right Tyler Anderson when
(12:38):
he pitched Boom three year deal. Angels got paid. Yep,
got right, got paid. Ross get here, Ross Stripley got here.
All Star got paid. They're gonna fix me. And then
often running, I'll go he comes here one year and
he's not a bad ballplayer, he really isn't comes here.
(12:59):
This is it And you know your expectation is because
of what you've seen in the past. Oh well, hell,
he'll kill it. He casts us with this, with this team,
he's not gonna be called upon to really be a
difference maker because there's so many superstars that he can
fly under the radar. He's gonna get pits too. Yeah,
he's gonna kill it. Just be great for him. Yeah,
(13:22):
everybody's worried about Mookie, Freddy and Otani and Will Smith
and Maximutt, they're not worried about me. I'm gonna get
I'm gonna get the best pitches out there. And then
this this, I mean, he struggled offensively from the very
beginning of the season, and you thought, oh no, he's
a pro, he'll turn it around, he'll fix it. And
since the All Star breaking has been better. But you know, understand,
(13:44):
he started in such a hole that he's still tried
to dig himself out. I think the concerning part of
it became not only was he struggling at the plate,
but then at times defensively he became an adventurer. Yeah,
that's the thing you can You can't. You can't compound
your mistakes or your failures to other areas of your game.
(14:09):
So if you're struggling at the plate, you can't struggle
on the in in the outfield. You gotta be better
at one than the other. Don't take it killed. Coaches
from day one always said, don't take what you did
at the play to the outfield or to the infield
to defense, and he has done at times. But the
other part about it, Fred is which is you know,
sad for him as you as you look at this said,
(14:29):
guys die and go crave to be part of the Dodgers.
They seek it out. I want to be a part
of that culture. I want to be a part of
that winning culture. I want to be a part of
that team that can be, that can win a World Series.
Every single year they scrap and crawl to try to
get here, and when that opportunity presents itself, I'm about
(14:51):
to be a Dodger. You want to you want to
maximize that to the level where you're a Dodger for
a long long time. You know. Temmy, they went and
got him last year, and he was so happy to
be a Dodger. He was the NLCS MVP, you know
what I mean. It just he turned it on. Everybody's like,
who is this guy? But a lot of guys come
(15:12):
here because of the culture. And and it's like the
Cowboys of the nineties. Everybody, everybody when there was a
free agent or any kind of trade, shave me to
the Cowboys. I want to go to the Cowboys. You know,
not so much anymore. Nobody wants to go to Cowboys anymore.
But now, but it's the Dodgers. Everybody wants to find
a way to get to the Dodgers because of the
(15:34):
way they run the organization. And they spared no expense
for the players. They got two planes for crying out loud, Fred,
they got two chartered planes. Come on, no team does
that just for that alone. Everybody wants to be a Dodger. Yeah,
And that's that's the sad part of it. He comes here,
he knows what it's about and probably considers himself pretty
(15:57):
lucky because if you remember, he signed fast, I mean
they signed him quick. Wouldn't you wouldn't you sign fast?
Dodger is a call and they're gonna offer you this. Okay, okay, yeah, yeah,
and they really believed. All right, we got that done.
You know. It's kind of like when you're you're you're
(16:20):
a filling out a roster, you're building a hot whatever
you're doing. Oh okay, we got that done. Check that
one off the list. Now let's move on to the
next part we need. And it just hasn't happened. I
maybe it would be some sort of a Hollywood ending
this year if he gets hot right now, if it
gets to a point where suddenly he explodes and they
(16:43):
can't take him out of the lineup, and if he
proves to be the missing piece of the puzzle with
thirty one games left, it would be a great ending
to become hot. Yeah, it would be a great ending.
And it's possible to a story with a lot of bumps,
to a story with a lot of bumps. All right,
(17:08):
the Olympics are coming? Are they coming? Are they coming?
We'll talk about it.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
We've made it even easier to take LA Sports with
you this summer. Make AM five to seventy or your
favorite AM five seventy LA Sports podcast a preset on
the iHeartRadio app using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto road
Trip all summer with LA Sports.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Oh yeah, come on Monday afternoon, Rodney Pete, fred Rogan.
Let's keep it going, Freddy. Okay, So this is the
kind of thing actually was written about last week. We
didn't get to it, but I didn't want to talk
about it for a few minutes. That really, I think
(17:58):
is very misleading. I think it's very misleading. So there
was a story in the La Times, and the gist
of the story is that the Olympics aren't going anywhere. Now,
that was the gist of this story. The Olympics are
coming in twenty twenty eight, Yes, and there were a
number of issues mentioned, you know, the homeless problem, transportation
(18:20):
could be an issue, even just people coming into the country.
But rest assured, the Olympics are coming. Okay. That could
not have been more misleading as an article. And here
is why. Nothing is going to happen to the Olympics
coming nothing, Nothing is going to stop them, nothing is
(18:42):
going to slow the Olympics. Down to even suggest you know,
here are some things to think about that you could
believe could derail them is a total falsehood. Nothing to it.
Do you understand what it takes to stage an Olympics
and how long it takes to put that in place,
(19:06):
and how many years people work on that. This is
not hosting some games at Pierce College on Saturday morning.
Hey can we get to college?
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Great?
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I will say too, just so people know that you
have worked the Olympics for ever, basically, so you understand
how this whole thing works. It's not just that, oh,
let's have the Olympics and we'll put it together in
six months. This has been in the work for eight
years now. Yeah that that LA got awarded the Olympics
(19:40):
eight years ago. I mean twenty twenty eight will be
eight years yes, correct. Yeah, it's not going anywhere. So
as you continue, as we get closer. By the way,
everybody always gets excited if the Olympics are in your country.
Are you excited? Does it really matter to you? And
I'm being dead serious. For what will happen is games
(20:02):
in the US always perform the best on we'll say
now media, not just television games in the US are
going to kill it. The numbers are going to be astronomical.
They will be the highest rated Olympics and I don't
know how many years because the Games are here so
they always do well. And for the purposes of those
(20:25):
of us on the West coast, it makes it even better.
Usually on the West coast you get screwed, right, right,
it's on the East coast, yeah, or your o'clock in
the afternoon or whatever, or Europe it's two o'clock in
the morning. But it's all going to be our real time.
It's our real time events. It's started at nine am.
(20:46):
Start at nine am. This will be the first time
where you will not be in the middle of the
night watching things. Right. Well, you know, it starts in
Milan at x four in the afternoon. That's three in
the morning here, and of course they show it live
now as they should. Those not gonna happen this time
(21:06):
when the games are in LA. It will be our
real Pacific time. Right. The basketball starts at seven. It's
gonna start at seven. You're gonna be good now. A
little bit on the East coast, they might be a
little bit mad because like they usually are when the
game starts a Monday night, well, Monday night starts at five,
(21:26):
but a night game in La gets played on the
East Coast at at ten o'clock. People get upset because
I'm up till one o'clock watching Dodgers play the Red
or the Dodgers play the Padres or whatever it may be.
But with the Olympics, it is what it is. But
we here in the West Coast are gonna get everything
in real time. So yeah, you're right, it's a benefit.
(21:49):
And isn't this true? Two Fred that only only the
IOC can cancel the Olympics or the city. They do
that deal like they are the governing body, like they
are above governments when it comes to correct how the
(22:10):
Olympics are run right, right, because there was an issue.
I think it was a China but Tokyo one of them,
but I forget which one it was. But they had
no rights because the Olympic Committee, when they give you
or grant you an Olympics, they are the governing body
that supersedes that actual government. I mean, I would think
(22:33):
in the case of force majeure, which would be a
natural disaster of World War something like that, an act
of nature yeah, you probably could get out of it.
But aside from that, if you were to if you
were to blow off the Olympics, if you're China and
you were not doing it, the language in that deal
(22:53):
is probably it's going to cost you twenty five billion
dollars to the IOC going to have to pay because
the cost of putting this thing on are exorbited. Incredible,
monstrous just putting it on. Just think about La and
(23:14):
of course the home of softball, the LA Olympics, Oklahoma City,
my favorite life, my favorite Why I don't understand that
still to this day, where California is such a big state,
in LA is such a big area with so many
opportunities to to create a softball field, I don't understand
(23:34):
where they go into Oklahoma. And I get it. You know,
Oklahoma is a big powerhouse in softball, as our Texas
in that area. But you see, LA is pretty good
at softball. I don't there's so many places here that
you can have softball. Why are they moving it to
Oklahoma City? I have no idea none. But the best
(23:56):
part of that is if you're from whatever country and
you're coming to the LA Olympics and for a lot
of people believe it or not. Those of us see,
I understand, we're here, we understand it. You know, there's
a mistake about LA around the world, certainly around our country,
but around the world as well. People have an impression
about it, whether it's true or not. You know, it's Hollywood,
(24:17):
it's laid back, it's everything you've heard throughout your lifetime,
all of it. Yeah, all that stuff. It's everything. And
you know, if you are coming from wherever you may
be coming from, and you're going to the Los Angeles
Olympics and part of the thrill is that you're going
to Los Angeles. That's like if you were going to
(24:40):
the Tokyo Olympics, but your venue was seven hundred miles
from Tokyo, right, you didn't go to Tokyo. You didn't go.
So can you imagine, Yeah, we're going to the United States,
We're going to the LA Olympics based in Oklahoma City, right,
(25:02):
Or you're like, oh, yeah, we're just we're gonna go
to the Olympics in LA and we're gonna hang out
and we got our places reserved, We've got a hotel
or we rented an airbnb. We're gonna be there. God,
we'd love to go see some softball we're going for
where's that softball tournament?
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (25:25):
You mean we got to jump on a plane and
go to city. Listen, my dream has been to see
Olympic softball. I got it locked up in La. We've
got a place. When do the games begin? Okay? Time
to go to the first game? Oklahoma City. It makes
(25:45):
no sense. It just makes zero sense. One other thing
that I don't think will be ready for the Olympics,
if ever, the legendary gondola. Oh no, no, I don't think.
I don't think it's gonna be ready. Damn, I don't think.
Aren't they playing baseball in the Olympics too? Yeah? Right?
(26:07):
That before the Dodger Stadium element. Oh right, man, gondola
already here. Here's the problem with the gondola. And we've
talked about that. You know, it's from uh what is it,
China to Koreatown to Dodger Stadium Union Station, and they're
gonna put this gondola up and you go down to
park at Union Station, you get on the gondola and
take you to Dodger Stadium. To be really honest, there's
(26:31):
absolutely no reason for this except somebody wants to build it.
Frank mccortz company, I think it sent oversees it. There's
really no reason you could. If you had a monorail
spanning all of Los Angeles, that'd be one thing, right,
But the gondola, you need a lot of gondolas anyway.
You know, there's been a lot of fighting, a lot
(26:52):
of arguing. Some people wanted, some people don't want the gondola.
What you learn is that in city government. And I
didn't realize this, by the way, I didn't you know
long it takes to get something done. Maybe you do.
I did forever to your Yeah, the red tape and
so many people got to vote on it, and then
(27:13):
you gotta have another vote, and a vote to the vote,
to the of the vote to get even just the
color of the concrete approved, or it's something minor approved electrical,
who's going to do that, let's vote on it. Yeah,
it's it's a lot of red tape. It is mind
(27:36):
boggling the amount of red tape that goes into it.
They're not even close. They're not even close to getting
through that the approval process. That so, I mean, I
heard people saying, oh, to be built next year. First,
it's not even approved to build. First, we got to
(27:56):
talk to this committee. Okay, we talked to them, but
now we have to talk to this group over here.
This group needs more information. This group needs more information.
It's like the San Antonio Spurs owner wants to build
a new stadium down there and an entertainment district. It's
the model now, right, yeah, yeah, So the city council
(28:21):
has to decide if they're going to let them build
this stadium. Everybody in San Antonio wants the stadium. They've
been talking about it forever. So they have the big
city council meeting with the mayor where they're going to decide. Now,
this thing is drug on for a while. So the
(28:42):
owner of the Spurs gets up at the council meeting
and addresses the city council and the mayor talking about
how wonderful this will be, how it'll improve the area,
the amount of money it's going to bring into San Antonio,
jobs that are and the mayor looks at him and says, now,
(29:03):
this has been going on for a while, could we
have more time please to check with our constituents, and
you know, hear what the people have to say, and
I said, you've had enough time. How much time do
you need? Oh, they passed it. Mayor voted against it,
but they passed because it was economically viable for everybody involved. Yeah,
(29:27):
but we need more time. Well, we need more time
to think about it. We need more time. Yeah, where's
what we gotta do. We gotta we gotta talk to
more people. There's your problem. And whether you like the
gondola or not, there's the problem. There are so many
people that have to do impact reports, make decisions, talk
to people. It's so screwed up that right now the
(29:52):
gondola isn't anything, and probably really shouldn't be, but right
now it's not. And I just want to say this.
I'm learned something in the last three weeks. And as
you as you listen to the show today, maybe you've
been involved in something like this, and maybe it's just
me and maybe I'm out of touch. All right, tell
(30:13):
me what you think, Rodney. So I'm doing this project,
so hear me out. I'm doing this project. It involves
technical stuff, it involves AI, not for the radio show.
It's a different thing. So you have to talk to
the people that understand AI and can program AI and
(30:37):
tell them really what you need. You explain to them
what you need. Then they say, okay, we will code this,
we will build this, and we'll let you see it.
So I talked to this guy. He comes to see me.
It's like three months ago, and he goes, I got
these ideas, this AI stuff, and this is what the
AI will do. I said, great, great, let me see
(31:02):
how it works. Was that wrong to say? No, okay,
so so far you're with me. Yes, you're telling me
you got it. I say, let me see how it works.
He goes, I will get back to you in one week.
In one week, I don't hear from the guy. So
I call him. I said, what's what the AI thing?
(31:24):
It was like an AI person, to be honest with you,
He's like a talking AI person. He says, well, you
know I was talking to the team. I'm thinking, uh oh,
now he told me to be done in a week. Well,
I was talking to the team, and the team believes
that we need to wipeboard it and then we need
(31:44):
to sit down and have a meeting about it. You
told me it would be done in a week. He goes, yeah,
but I talked to the team. I said we'll go
back and have another conversation with the team. He goes,
what should I tell him? We're not doing that. You
said one week. I don't need another meeting. We've already
had one. Okay, you know what I want? It was,
(32:06):
he clear of what you wanted. Yeah, two more weeks now,
so we're three weeks into this. He sends it to me.
He goes, here it is, but it's very rough. It's
very rough. It's not tested yet. It's very rough. I said,
I thought you told me two weeks ago you had
when I could play with Because it's very rough. Here's
(32:30):
what we should do. You should try it. Understand it's
very rough, take some notes, and then let's have a
meeting with the team. I said, there's no more meetings
with the team. We're not meeting with the team. No,
I'm not meeting with the team. Does it work or
doesn't it work? That's what I want to know. On
(32:55):
the same what it's crazy. What I'm basically doing is
building these computer programs and stuff. Okay, and they've turned
to the right guy who knows nothing about that anyway.
So I'm building these things and I'm working with people
I can't begin to tell you how many people need
to have like four meetings for to decide what it
(33:20):
is we should try. Listen, we need to do quote
a deep dive, A deep dive on what I need
it to do X. Yeah, but we got to talk
about it. What do we have to talk about? Make
it do that? Yeah, but you have to understand that
we've got to really bring everybody in and go over,
go over what I just told you. I wanted to
(33:43):
do that. Oh my god, this is going to take
a deep dive. You know this is going to take
what discovery? What do you mean? What are we discovering?
It's gonna take me two months to do this discovery
on this? What are you discovering? Well, I've got to,
you know, talk to people. Who Who do you have
to talk to? Who are you talking to? Well, I've
(34:03):
got to discuss it with who. Make it do that?
Just make it do that. I have never seen anyone else.
It's complicated. Come on now, Yeah, it's right, it's complicated.
If one more person says we gotta take a deep dive,
werena's gonna require deep dive? What are we diving into?
(34:26):
Can you make it? Do that? I wanted to look
like that and do that? Can you do that? Well,
we got to think about it. What do you have
to think about it? Yes or no? Can you do
it or not? We gotta figure that out, Fran. That's
why we gotta take a deep dive see if we
can do it and do it the right way. There
are no glitches to it. We need to get the
(34:48):
team together. But who's on the team? And that's another thing.
Who does everybody have a team? Who's this team you're
talking about, Rodney? Three different people, So we gotta meet
the team. Are they all the same team? Is everybody
on the team? Are they different teams? Do they compete
like the Dodgers and the Podres? Who are these people?
(35:10):
What do they do? Has been a fascinating experience. And
again I'm sorry, but after we're talking about city government
and how they do that kind of stuff, it's like,
oh my god, everybody, you know what, everybody talks an
awful lot and does very little. Everybody talks an awful
(35:31):
lot in everything city government and nothing happens. Do you
know in the State Assembly, if you write a bill
in the State Assembly right now, Rodney Pete, you're a legislator. Yeah,
you know when you've got a shot to make that happen.
The end of next year. The end of next year. Hey, listen,
(35:54):
everybody's driving off this road because there's no there's no
guard rail and it's a it's a canyon, and everyone
is dying. We need to put a guardrail up there,
or we need to have some sort of regulation immediately.
We need it, people amediately. Yeah, next year, the end
(36:15):
of next year, that's when it gets approved. So what
do you no wonder why things are the way they
are here? It's an emergency. We'll get to it next year.
Don't worry about it. We got it covered, but we're
going to do it next year. That's why things are
the way they are in a very long winded way.
(36:38):
That's why that damn gondola is. Don't close it again,
built than it ever was. All Right, I love it.
All right. We're back to rabbit up.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Make Am five La Sports so pre said before you
plug in your poone presets in the iHeartRadio app now
available with Apple CarPlay and Android autom just another easy
way to listen to LA's best sports talk.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Let's go. We're back to wrap this thing up on
a Monday, Rodney, Pete, Fred Rogan. Okay, so here we
go again, Dodger fans, all right for first thirty one
to go? How does it play out tonight? The Dodgers
have the reds. Hunter Green, who went to Notre Dame
High School, throws the ball over one hundred miles an hour.
(37:33):
Sometimes is hurt, but it's not tonight. The only advantage
if you think of well, this is going to be
bad news for the Dodgers, he can have control problems.
That is very real. He can have control problems. Aside
from that, he is he is not easy, no, and
(37:54):
he will be amped up to play at Dodger Stadium
and face this. So I'm gonna say he gonna be
hitting one hundred and two hundred and three Fred tonight.
He always gets excited to play here. Yeah, he's always
excited to play at Dodger Stadium, which, of course is
(38:16):
not great news for the Dodgers. But there is good news.
There is good news. The good news is Emma Sean
will go for the Dodgers, and he has been effective. Rodney,
he has done a job. He's done a great job,
you know, having to fill in for when the starters
have been out he's come in and done a really
(38:36):
good job. A lot of confidence in the machine, I
really do. He can be very very effective. So I
don't have any real concerns when he's on the hill,
do you, No, No, I actually feel pretty confident tonight
Cincinnati is battling. Though they're battling for the wild card.
Terry Francona has done a terrific job managing that ball club.
(38:56):
Everywhere he goes Francona everywhere, he's a winner. Turned, he's
a winner. He turns programs around. He's been great, been great.
Did it in Boston, did it in Cleveland, Now has
done it in Cincinnati. So it is the start. The Padres,
I believe tonight are in Seattle against the Mariners. Now,
Freddie Freeman did say, we can't watch the scoreboard. We
got to take care of our own business. And that
(39:17):
is true. That is true. But if there was a
time for the Dodgers to catch fire, if there was
a time to start building that momentum, now is the time.
David Bassey told us Max months he's back next week.
That's good, look forward to that. Keith A'll be back
soon rather than later. That's good. And Tommy Edmond. We're
(39:39):
still not sure. But the point is this, they're going
to have that team, that team that they put together
at the beginning of the year, that team that they
believed had enough to win the West, win the National League,
and certainly get back to believe that like when this
team is like as we had called her, and thank
you everybody for calling in you people talking about when
(40:02):
you're when you're at full strength. When the Dodgers are
at full strength and getting there all their guys back,
they first of all, they are the most talented team
on paper for sure. And does that translate in and
now we got our Now we got our horses back.
Now we're at full strength, let's go. That Is that
a level that people should hold their hat to in
(40:25):
terms of having confidence that this team can turn things around.
That's the level that Dodgers have to believe after what
has happened this year. You don't say what you will
about us. Yeah we've had our roughs and downs, but
we've not been at full strength. Now just wait, all
of our guys are back at the right time, and
now we're gonna take off. That's what they have to believe,
(40:47):
and I think that's what every bean has to believe
and it can very well happen. All right, Ronnie, great
job today, appreciate it. Kevin terrific and Rodney will talk
tomorrow
