Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we continue on Fred Rogan Rodney Peach on a
five seventy LA Sports. Before the top of the hour break,
we had breaking news, and that breaking news is Clayton
Kershaw is going to retire after the season. Made the
announcement just moments ago. Rodney, your first.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Reaction, first reaction is timing, why now.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Not?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Why now he's retiring? Because I think we've all knew
this day was coming at some point and coming soon.
But it just it just feels a little odd that
had happened on a Thursday afternoon as they, you know,
get ready to play San Francisco and the season is
not over yet. Just you know, obviously all the stuff

(00:50):
is going to start coming out, his history, his dedication
to the Dodgers, best in the game for such a
long stretch, and but just an odd It feels like
an odd time to announce it as you're in a
race for the playoffs and getting ready for the playoffs.
So what about you? What'd you think?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Surprised that came out? Now? Agree with you? I think
it is the right decision to call it after this
year for him, You would think if the Dodgers won
the World Series, he might say, well, I want to
stick around again, But then again, what better way to
go out than with the World Series. I do find

(01:31):
the timing a bit curious. David Dassay is going to
be out at two o'clock, so if anybody knows what's
going on, it'll.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Be David Vassay.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So eighteen seasons in the books for Clayton Kershaw, three
thousand strikeouts, an eleven time All Star, a World Series champ,
the National League Most Valuable Player in twenty fourteen, three
time National League saw Young Award winner, Gold Glove Award,
Roberto Clemeny Award three times. He had a wins lane
leader five times, the nl ERA leader three times, a

(02:03):
National League strikeout leader, also has a no hitter under
his belt. And I made the comment earlier in the year,
and I think some people agreed, others disagreed. I don't
know nationally if he ever got the kind of love
that he deserved. Here we knew he was great, and

(02:26):
certainly people knew he was a terrific pitcher. But I
don't know nationally, when you just listen to that body
of work, I don't know if he got the love
nationally throughout his career that he deserved, and I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Why I feel that way, and and well, I think,
you know, a lot of it's probably a recency bias.
You know, there is that of a stretch of what
two thousand and twelve you mentioned he was MVP in
twenty fourteen, Yes, young in fourteen either one, but that
stretch that he had, you know, around twelve to basically

(03:10):
twenty nineteen leading up into the pandemic, he was the
best in baseball and very dominant in baseball, and there
are oftentimes where he got labeled of a guy that
couldn't do it in the postseason, when I think, in essence,
you look at his body of work, it was oftentimes

(03:31):
I can remember this and I don't know the stats.
I'm just throwing it out there, but oftentimes Fred tell me,
if this is comes to your mind too, that in
the playoffs he would often pitch and lose a game
one to nothing, or lose a game two to one,
and it just felt in the postseason he didn't necessarily
get the run support that he deserved based on his

(03:54):
performance on the hill, and so a lot of those
three two games, two to one games, one nothing games,
he would be on the short end of those which
I think that started to taint his greatness because everybody
believes right and you're judged on how you do in
the postseason, And for that stretch, the Dodgers hadn't won

(04:16):
a World Series since eighty eight, so that kept coming up.
But overall, I don't know if there was a picture
that had that length of real dominance that Clayton Kershall had.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I will say this, and I do think part of
the reason why Fred and Rodney he doesn't get the
recognition is because of his perceived or reality in some
situations his postseason struggles. Like his postseason era is four
point four to nine compared to his regular season two
and a half. I mean that's significantly higher. He has
certainly had his share of postseason struggles. I mean Peyton

(04:50):
Manning got labeled with this in his career at times
where he put up all the stats in the world
in the regular season, but when the postseason came around,
more often than not, there are times that he struggle.
That he didn't win doesn't mean that he wasn't great,
but people certainly helped that against him. So I think
that's a big reason why nationally people say, like, well,
on the biggest stage. You didn't he never came through.
That's not true. It wasn't that he never came through.

(05:10):
But he certainly had his share of struggles. So I
think that's why he doesn't get talked about the way
that I think many of us think he should be.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
You know, you know what I think killed him too
in the postseason, and I remember it. I was sitting there.
I saw it when they're playing the Astros, right, and
they're in Houston, and of course nobody knew what was
going on at that point. He got tagged. He got
tagged in that game. Now we know now why and

(05:39):
because of course they knew what pitches were coming.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, and I think there was a double comeback, right,
he got tagged, Dodgers got back in the game, and
then he got tagged again. Yeah, and they left him in.
So that was a big stain on his, uh, his career.
But often, like I said, I do remember him having,
you know, pitching some unbelieve believable games and yet couldn't

(06:03):
get much help offensively from his team. Now, Kevin, you're right,
the stats don't lie, right. You jump from whatever he
was in the regular season to four points something in
the postseason. That's glaring to you know, a lot of
folks or anybody really looking at it from a just
stats situation. But I just I don't know why I
keep going back to that, because it's just it's like

(06:26):
the eye test, right, you go and you think about him,
and I just distinctly remember and this may not even
be close to being true, but I just feel like
he didn't really get Now, he did have his blow ups, right,
he got hitt and tagged, like you said, but it
just feels there were a lot of times where he
pitched his ass off through seven or eight innings and
just couldn't get enough run support.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, I absolutely buy that, and maybe that's the reason
why nationally he didn't get what I called the love.
But boy, you look at the body at work. God,
he is one of the great pitchers in baseball history.
And I'm not being a prisoner of the moment. That's
a statement of fact, and you know, I have to
respect the fact despite that. They announced it today and

(07:12):
we'll find out from David das say why that was.
But he's not going to hang around too long, you know,
he came back from the end.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
What do you mean not hang around.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
What do you mean, Okay, I mean he's not going
to hang around to a point where he's having a
pretty good year and he could probably come back and
give it another shot. But you know, if you lose
a little bit here and a little bit there, all
of a sudden, they're hitting you all over the place.
I'm glad he's going out when he's pitching well not

(07:42):
he comes back one too many seasons and now he's
just getting drilled. Yeah, it's remarkable what he's done this year. Yeah,
this is not going to go down as a record
breaking year for him, but if you really think about
what he has done this year, it is remarkable.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, he's been the most consistent pitch as the Dodger
has and he's been the guy when when you needed
a win or you needed a big performance from your
starting pitcher. This season, he's been the guy.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
And remember, he wasn't supposed to come back when he did,
if you remember correctly, he was going to come back
around the All Star break and you know, see what
he could do. But out of pure and utter necessity,
he came back sooner. And you know the injuries he's
had in the past, and how hard. He's had to
work to overcome those and then he had the toe.

(08:36):
All right, he had the surgery. You didn't know when
he would be back, and you certainly didn't know if
he'd be effective. If we're being completely honest, you really
didn't know. You thought, well, it's good, he's coming back.
It's good he's back. He's Clayton Kershaw, and you know
it would just wouldn't be the same without him. And
he comes back and he's really good. He's been one

(08:57):
of the main reasons the Dodgers are in first place.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
In the first place.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
What first place. He's been a guy that's been able
to shut the door when he.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Absolutely he has, absolutely he has. So. But nationally, I
think what Kevin said is true, you know, because a
lot of people nationally they don't follow it like we do.
And if you're national, then you're looking up at the
stats and say, oh, well, you know he you know,
he didn't win in the playoffs. I saw, I remember

(09:33):
he just he got beat up in the playoffs. Playoffs, playoffs,
And that's what people focus on as opposed to looking
like we do at the full body of work.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Yeah, it's uh, it's interesting. The timing, there's no question
about it.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
I will say the time he may have something to
do with the fact that he is starting tomorrow, so
they want to make sure they have enough popping circumstance
and he will enter into tomorrow's game. There's a prescot
inference this afternoon being held before the game to talk
about it. So he's going to have all the pomp
and circumstance leading up to the start, as opposed to
announcing it even tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
So this this would be his last regular season started
at Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Correct, Yes, even in the statement of the Dodgers release,
they have pegged it as his last regular season started
at Dodger Stadium. So I think that's most likely why
they chose to do it now as opposed to after
the season ended.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
You think they knew? Do you think that he and
internally they all knew that this was it. It doesn't
seem like you come to this conclusion you know this
late in the season and make it while you're still
in the middle of a race, unless you you are.
Everybody you know, the people that needed to know all

(10:44):
new and they got you know, together collectively and say
well this is this is a perfect time to make
the announcement because this is we don't want to miss.
Clayton's last start at Dodger Stadium, could be as a
regular season start, could be. Don't think he decided this
last night. No.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
But it's funny because every year, when the season would
end and you knew he was getting a year older,
I would think to myself, he can't come back. I mean,
now's the time to hang it up. He can't come
back and he come back, No, he'll get hurt again.
He can't come back and he'd come back. And this
year I'm sitting here going, my god, he could pitch
next year. So he retires.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
I really thought he could come back next year. Yeah,
it's really year to year. You know, when you get
that age, it's really year to year. And you know,
oftentimes your body will tell you, hey, man, that was
You know, he's not going to say it publicly, but
you know, with with Ellen and his family, I'm sure
they're like, man, this was may not look like it,

(11:49):
but man, that was a grind.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
This year.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
The whole thing was a grind. And I don't know
if I can do that again. So that those conversations happened,
you know, later on in your career and you start
thinking about what you have to do to get ready
for the upcoming season and get ready for spring training
and all that goes into it. As you, you know,
approach forty years old, it's like, I want to do

(12:14):
I want to put my body through that again.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Well, apparently he does not. David Vassi will be here
at two o'clock to talk about it. And how would
you right now like to go to the game tomorrow
night and be there for his final regular season pitching
appearance at Dodger State.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Wait, how would you like that? You might have to
pull them tickets back for it? We ain't giving them away.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Well, what we'll do is we have a fair away
right now. Eight sixt six nine eight seven two five
seventy Rodney would call her number number twenty two. I
know Kevin's pleased about that. We call her number twenty two.
We're gonna get more tickets away.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Later on earlier read that I had to read that
I bumbled not Rodney fair enough.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Hello Rogan and Robnie listener, did you know AM five
seventy LA Sports has a wide range of LA Sports podcasts,
shows like petros in money. We are streaming Matt Dodger
Talk with David Vasse, the Dodger Podcast of Record, Clipper
Talk without a Moss, follow us all and many more.
Just go to Am five to seventy LA Sports on

(13:22):
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Oh yes, let's get back into it. Rodney Pete Fred
Rogan on a throwback Thursday. And speaking of throwback, Uh,
we just informed you brought it to you. However you
want to look at it that this is going to
be it for Clayton Kershaw. Old number twenty two is
going to retire after the season is over with, so

(13:50):
Dodge has only got one thing to do. Send him
out with a win. Again, Let's send him out with
a win and that'd.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Be sweet at Dodger Stadium against the dreaded Giants. But
he'll be on the Hill of Marrow. Oh do we
know who won? Who won the tickets? Who was called
twenty two? Or is Kevin still answering the phone? He's
probably getting Vinny on the line. Now I didn't, but
we have to figure out who won the tickets.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
I'll apologize to Kevin for putting number twenty two because
their phones are lighting up like crazy.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah. And the other thing is we're giving more tickets
away this hour, and we're giving away tickets next hour
and there for the game tomorrow night. So you will
be there on an historical evening getting to watch him
make his final start at Dodger Stadium in the regular season.
That is pretty cool. And I guess when you really
look at the great athletes in LA sports history, if

(14:46):
we really just take a second and look at them,
and people are prisoners of the moment. And I know
it is generational and it's always hard to compile these lists,
but if you look at a top ten list of
greatest athletes that played four teams in LA, So who
would be on that that group? We won't do am
Mount Rushmore, but who would be in that group? Well,

(15:06):
obviously Magic would be in that group. Is that fair
to say?

Speaker 2 (15:10):
See that again?

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Who?

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Magic? Yeah, Kobe, Yeah, Shack, maybe Kareem Yes. All right,
there's four. So we've got four right now. So now
let's think about others. Clayton Kershaw would be on that list.

(15:37):
He would be one of the great athletes in LA
sports history. So there's five. Vinnie Bons and your NFL
insider joins us now all right, Vinnie, you've been you
know the market, you worked here. You know, Clayton Kershaw's retiring.
We're trying to figure out, give me like the top
ten greatest of all time LA athletes. Clayton Kershaw's on

(15:59):
that list? Is that fair to say?

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Oh? Yeah, no question, And I guess I would probably
take And I love Shack, but you know it wasn't
you know, he didn't like like Kobe, and you know,
Kareem as the UCLA plus the Lakers. Kobe was Kobe
throughout his career with the Lakers, as was Magic, whereas
Shack kind of bounced around a little bit. So I
think that that might eliminate him from contention on the

(16:22):
Mount Rushmore if we're talking about that. But Clayton absolutely
absolutely deserves to be on there without question.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, well, hey, the other guys, because Kareem didn't start
with the Lakers, Bennie, would you put him on the list.
I'm just wondering.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
Yes, because he also has the UCLA aspect to it,
and he wanted to all those three national championships at UCLA.
I wouldn't want to court that freshman been allowed to play.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
And he played the bulk of his career at UH
with the Lakers. So even though he started Milwaukee, UH,
the bulk of his career was was with the Lakers.
So yeah, and then, like you said, Bennie, the u
c l A aspect of it, when we were talking
about La Mount Rushmore's you can't deny what Kareem did
at UCLA. I don't think people talk about that enough.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
Exactly exactly, no question about it. So, I mean, it's
a it's such a storied, you know, group of great
athletes from from Los Angeles, and I would always put Billy.
Everyone forgets about Billy gen King, I mean as sokalas
against from Long Beach, you know, growing up in Long Beach,
going to Long Beach Polly and doing everything that she did.

(17:28):
I know, you know, it was kind of a wave away.
But don't ever forget about Billy Jen King and the
impact that she had on women's sports, professional sports, professional tennis.
She was a pioneer in a lot of ways.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
That's a good poll, Vinnie, that's a great poll because
she certainly deserves to be on there. We'll talk more
about that coming up in the next segment. Let's get
to some NFL Okay so the Chargers did a very
good job against the Raiders defensively and Gino Smith through
three interceptions. Was that because the Chargers really get a

(18:01):
great job or did Gino Smith have a bad game?

Speaker 6 (18:05):
Yeah, you know, he had a bad game. A couple
of the interceptions. There was one at the end of
the half where you know it was it was a
third and twelve I think it was, and he threw
it as far as he could, you know, trying to
make a play and a guy intercepted it. Was it
was basically a glorified punt. Not to make any excuses,
but you know that was that was one that it
wasn't a bonehead play. It was just trying to make

(18:26):
something happen, and you know, it ended up putting them
putting the charges at the one yard line towards the
end of the first half. The one that was you know,
the first throw of the game was just a bad throw.
And and uh and that's on and that's on Gino
and and again trying to make something happen with the
end zone interception. In retrospect, you take the three points there,
uh and and you know, make it an eight point

(18:46):
game late in the fourth quarter, but it is what
it is. But you do give credit without question to
the Chargers. That's a really good football team. And and
Rodney and and uh and and Fred As I look
at the a sc right now, to me, the Chargers
are right there, right there behind, you know, the Buffalo
Bills and Baltimore Ravens. Can you could argue who's the

(19:07):
better team between the Bills and the Ravens. I know
the Bills beat them, but Ravens are a pretty good
football team too. And and I got the Chargers right
behind them. So that's a pretty god you know, good
football team. And really, when the Raiders looked at that game,
they're like, you know, you turn the ball over three
times against one of the top teams in the AFC,
and you still had a chance to make a game
of it late in the game. So the Raiders walked

(19:29):
away from a game, you know, not not necessarily dejected, disappointed, upset.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
But but there will be another time to play the
Chargers down the road. But I come away, and I
think a lot of people come away, including the Raiders
and Pete Carroll. That's a really good football team over
with the Chargers in Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Yeah, that is going to save any two and zero
start season big wins Kansas City and in Las Vegas. Uh,
is this who the Chargers are? Are they? I know
it's hard to say after two games, but looking at
him from the eye test, biddy, are they? Are they
the real deal for us to be talking about them

(20:09):
in late January as making a run towards the Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (20:15):
Here's why I'll say yes as of right now. First
of all, the defense is legit that's a legitimately good
physical football team that really has strength in the in
the areas that that as you know, if you if
you know football, you know that you need to be
really tough inside in the interior of the defensive line
of Chargers are that. They've also got pass rushers. They

(20:36):
also have a pretty good secondary as well as very
well coached. They don't give up big plays, they don't
give up a lot of points, so that gives them
a chance every single game. What I'm really impressed with
Justin Herbert's Justin Herbert. You know, and you know that
he's one of the top quarterbacks in the league. But
now that you add Quintin Johnston, who seems like he's

(20:57):
turned the corner you got Keenan Allen and you got
Lad McConkey. Those are those are good enough weapons to
win a lot of football games alongside of Justin Herbert.
So they feel to me much more complete right now
because of the emergence of the of the weapons around
around Justin Herbert. They feel like a more complete team
right now.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Now.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
They got to stay healthy and you know everything, you know,
we know football and it can come and as quickly
as it comes, it can go. I just don't expect
that to happen with a well coached team like the Chargers,
and they got the Broncos this week. If you could
sweep AFC your first three games and go three and
oh all against division opponents, that's that's pretty good stuff

(21:39):
right there.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Yeah, that's worth two weeks. You know, would you beat
somebody in the division?

Speaker 6 (21:43):
Yeah, exactly. And one was you know, on a neutral site.
One was on the other team's home field. So that's
that's not a bad deal right there for them.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Then he let's talk rams. Are they a complete team?

Speaker 6 (21:58):
Yeah? I believe that they are a complete gam I.
You know, they took care of business against It's tough
sometimes when you when you play those teams that you
really don't have much information on. Number one, it's a
new quarterback with the Tennessee Titans, uh, you know, and
second year of that coach. But they're kind of not
that they hit the reset button, but it's but it's
a new a new organization with with new aspirations and

(22:20):
you're you're traveling your first you know trip of the
year like that. So so there was gonna be a
little bit of feeling out, you know, period in that game.
But they took control and they took care of business
and they won decisively. And uh, I don't like but
I love Devonte Adams with the Rams, and I think
he showed a lot of people that he's still got
a lot of juice left in the tank. That that

(22:44):
guy isn't.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
All right. You know, we had some trouble. We had
some trouble Vinnie. What we'll do is we'll take a break,
we'll come back and we'll see when we get Vinnie
back on all right, to finish up, because we need
to hear from Vinnie. And also we'll give another pair
of Dodgy tickets away right now at six nine eighty
seven seventy.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Hello, Rogan and Rodney listener. Did you know AM five

podcasts shows like petros in Money. We are streaming Matt
Dodger Talk with David Vasse, the Dodger Podcast of Record,
Clipper Talk with Adam Moss, follow us all and many more.
Just go to AM five to seventy LA Sports on

(23:24):
the iHeart radio app.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Oh yes, tap on in, tap on in Rodney, Pete
Fred Rogan, what's the story we get?

Speaker 1 (23:34):
We get our man back.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Vinnie is back.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
So Vinnie, welcome back to the show.

Speaker 6 (23:40):
My apologies, it's you know, it's monsoon season here in
Las Vegas and Nan you just had. It was our
rip roaring rain storm that just completely just just made
its presence felt. So my apologies for that.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
No worries. Let's get this Dodger tickets away real quick.
Here another pair of Dodger Giants tickets eight six, nine,
seventy callers four call right now and you will have
tickets for the game tomorrow night. Okay, we were talking
about the Rams. Are they a complete team? And that's
when I'm on soon Hit, So please pick it up
from there.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Yeah, you know there's a lot of reasons why I
like the Rams. I love how they figured it out
against a team that you know, they didn't have much
of a book on With the Titans. It was going
to be a you know, kind of feeling out part
of that game early on, and they they they ended
up getting control and winning decisively. And I really liked
DeVante Adams that that double move that he put on

(24:34):
the young cornerback on the touchdown throw was was was
right up his alley. I mean, he's he's he's so
good at that and so good at route running and
understanding football. And I think the sky's the limit right
now with him and Matthew Stafford and the working relationship
that they're developing. And it's just getting started. And so
I would expect a big year from Davante and of

(24:56):
course Pooka doing his thing. So to me, yet, without questioning,
the are a complete team and I'm really curious how
they're going to handle the Philadelphia ego this week.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Yeah, what do you like and what do you think
about that game coming up? I mean, it's a big
game early in the season, a game that's a say,
a remat but it is kind of a rematch of
the playoff game where the Rams had to go into
Philadelphia in the snow and actually, you know, played them
tough and had a chance, you know, with what less

(25:28):
than two minutes with the ball on the twenty yard
line going in to take the lead in that game.
And you know, we be talking about a different story
right now. And that's despite you know, Sakuon Barkley running
for eight hundred yards in that game, so they were
still in it at the end. But how much do
you put into this matchup this week with the Rams

(25:49):
and the Eagles.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
I think it's a really important game, Rodney, and for
a couple of reasons, they need to kind of get
over the hump against the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a team
that you know, they're they're among the top two teams
in the NFC kind of year in and year out.
And I'd have to go back and look, but I
know that when I covered the Rams that the Eagles
sort of had their number and they beat them, like said,
last year in the playoffs, and I want to say

(26:13):
that there's been another meeting along the way, and I
think the.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Eagles won that game as well.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
So they need to get over the hump on the Eagles.
But you know, even more important to that, you're it's
never too early to start thinking about getting an edge
in terms of that home field advantage when it gets
right down to it, and the Eagles are going to
be a team I think along with the Green Bay Packers.
You know that the that the that the Rams have
to have to be aware of in that regard, to

(26:38):
keep their eye on in that regard, because you'd much
rather play at Sofi Stadium in January than in Green
Bay or in Philadelphia. We saw kind of the effects
of them having to go back east and make that
trip and play in horrendous conditions in Philadelphia. I wouldn't
say that it was a difference to the game, but
it certainly didn't help. So Yes, for multiple reasons, this
is a big game. And I think that Sean mcday

(27:01):
and the Rams are going to approach you that, so
they're not going to run from that, They're going to
run to it. And I would expect that, you know,
their their their best effort in that game. And I'm
really curious how that's all going to turn out, Vinnie.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
If Matthew Stafford is healthy and looking at it, and
then we see the way the Chargers are playing and
it's very very early, but you get a sense, right,
you got a quick sense, like the Bengals are in trouble.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Joe, we're going there.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, I'm thinking in the back of my mind. And
maybe it's way too soon. You may have the two
best teams in the NFL in the same city.

Speaker 6 (27:35):
I'm I'm, I'm right there with you, and and you
know we'll see uh Buffalo and Baltimore. You know, they
get the respect right now. But the Chargers are pretty
good and so are the Rams. So if certain things
play out a certain a certain way, you know, come
come later on in the air. Everybody stays healthy, you know,

(27:56):
I wouldn't be shocked if if it, if it, if
it ultimately came down to that. There's a long way
to go, but those are two teams that at this
point you kind of have to keep your eye on
as far as doing special things when it when it matters,
and potentially carousing crossing paths at some point. And that
would be aware up in San Francisco, so or Santa

(28:17):
Clara up north. So what a great, great venue or
great place to find. Have the two Southern California teams
go up north, up north to settle their differences.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Any of the three teams we've been talking about obviously
the Raiders, the Chargers and the Rams. And given what
we went through this offseason with Matthew Stafford and is
back on a hold up. I think now Week three,
they go to Philadelphia, comes out of that game unscathed,
I think, barring any kind of crazy thing, I think
we can hopefully stop talking about the back. But of

(28:50):
all those teams, who was insulated the most due to
injury and who can't afford to lose anybody? I know,
it's it's part of the game and it's part of everything.
But at the same time, some teams are have the
depth that they can you know, they can withstand that
for a few weeks, and especially I'm talking about mainly

(29:10):
a quarterback.

Speaker 6 (29:12):
Yeah, well, we're talking about, you know, all three teams.
I mean, I'm not trying to dodge the question, but
you know, if you lose Geno Smith, it's it's it's
a pretty it's a pretty damaging thing for the Raiders.
If you lose Matthew Stafford, same thing, I think that
they might be better off. You know, you have Jimmy
Jimmy Garoppolo there, but he's not Matthew Stafford. And you know,

(29:36):
and and if you if you lose Justin Herbert, I'm
not going to say it's lights out because I think
it's a good football team, but it changes everything dramatically.
So I think I think all three are are are
kind of equally important to their to their team, you know,
and and sort of on different levels.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I think.

Speaker 6 (29:53):
For I think for Justin Herbert and Matthew Stafford, you're
talking about long playoff runs and and and potentially take
that opportunity away from them because they got to go
to their backup quarterback. If you're talking about the Raiders,
we're not talking about Super Bowl. What we're talking about
potentially a wildcard team being denied a chance to do
that because you don't have the quarterback that puts you

(30:13):
in that kind of position. So they're all equally important.
And that's that's you know, when we think about that,
Rodney and Fred, that's across the league. What's going to
happen with the Andy Bengals right now? You know, feels
so bad for them not having you know, arguable the
best quarterback in the NFL with Joe Burrow and he's
going to be out for an extended period of time,
and it changes everything about their season because Joe Burrow

(30:35):
gives them a chance. If you took Baker Mayfield out
at Tampa Van, I think that's a team that we're
not talking about enough as well, in a quarterback that
we're not talking about is enough. What happens with the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Jalen hurts, you know, we're to
be sidelined in Philadelphia changes everything about the Eagles. So,
you know, it's a cliche to say it, but there's
there's no more truth to it that you're as good

(30:57):
as your quarterback. And so there's teams out there, the
Cincinnati Bengals being one of them that just cannot afford
to lose that guy otherwise, you know, they go from
from from one end to the spectrum to the other.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Just like that.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
All right, Bennie, thanks for rejoining the show. We really
appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
