Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Talk of the Town on news radio with thirteen
hundred and one oh six nine FM Steve Kelly and
Brett Pikita and in studio with us the general manager
of Fox Ford, Steve Winters, thank you so much for
dropping by today.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Hey, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
There's a great food drive that gets underway tomorrow is
September fifteenth, and it starts at nine am. And in fact,
all of Ford Motor is doing this thing. Talk to
us a little bit about Ford's commitment to hunger. It's
a Ford's building together where they're building and or rebuilding communities.
They team with the number of partners for various projects,
(00:36):
everything from habitat to Humanity Defeating to America Team rub
econ American Red Cross. So the focus for September is
a global food drive. So they're looking at reaching out
to the nine thousand dealers to have the biggest food
drive ever. Oh boy.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
They're thinking that maybe we'll get twenty five hundred that'll participate,
even though I'd push all the other dealers to step up.
They're looking at four hundred pounds per twenty five hundred dealers.
They're looking at one million, wow pounds of food globally,
and I think that's attainable, unbelievable. And right there on
twenty eighth Street you can find fox Ford. Now you've
(01:16):
teamed up on a local pantry, like all these dealerships
are going to do. We have. We've reached out to
the green Apple Pantry. It's a small pantry that's in
Countwood actually right there around the corner on Kalamazoo Avenue
and Countwood. And I've talked to Nancy, she's the executive
director there. She's so excited that we're participating and that
we've chosen them as a partner.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
And what's cool is when you go to fox Ford,
we encourage you to stop in during that time from
again Monday September fifteenth, but you know at nine am
through Thursday, September twenty fifth, at six o'clock when they
close up for the night, there is a ford in
there that they're going to fill a brand new FOD
truck And that's the whole goal. You can help out,
But there are different ways if you can't make out
the dealership. Now, if you go there and you buy
(01:58):
a car, you guys are gonna make it. Donate of
a case of food for them, but you've got all
your vehicles. As far as maintenance or whatever, they're going
to be involved with picking up food.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
If people need that option, yes, if you can't make
it to the dealership, there's a number of ways. We've
had some small businesses in the community reach out and say, Okay,
I can collect here, but we just can't get the
food to you. So we have mobile service fans that
will come to you. We also have our big group
of wholesale delivery parts fans. They'll come out pick up
from anyone that has food that they'd like to deliver.
(02:28):
And we were talking earlier that if you wanted to
you can go right on Amazon. You can have a
case of food or whatever you'd like to do sent
right to the dealership at thirty five sixty twenty eighth
Street southeast right there in Grand Rapids. Again, we're going
to get four hundred pounds. The name that they call
it is fill a Ford and that's what we're going
(02:48):
to be doing.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
We are talking to the general manager of fox Ford,
Steve Winters, here in Grand Rapids as their food drive
gets underway again partnering with Green Apple Pantry. But tell
us a little bit about Ford's commitment. What's neat about
this is it's something that's being done all over but
yet it's at each dealership and talk to us a
little bit at the local level about your commitment to
(03:11):
the community. We've seen it time in and time out.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Well, anytime somebody reaches out with an opportunity the Fox
Motors group, Fox Ford, we step up because it's about
the community and that's what we're all trying to do.
We're trying to help.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Those in need. You know.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
They talk about everything from like I said, blood drives
to building rebuilding community after a disaster to this where
we hear that there's one in seven, maybe one in
eight people that are have food insecurity, which is very sad.
So when you hear those kind of things happening and
(03:46):
you get the momentum of Ford Motor Company behind you
and supporting you, we can do anything.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Steve, I'm always impressed with the Fox Motors and I've
worked with different dealerships in that group, and i want
to say thank you to you guys collectively because you
sponsor the Fox Mortors Pigskin Party with my core Rick
Burkey and support high school sports and high school football
teams out at your dealerships, and that to me means
so much because that's where it starts. I mean, these
kids come in and they're young drivers, right, and they
(04:12):
aspire to have that new truck that's going to be
in the showroom. Maybe they have a pre owned vehicle
or mom and dad helped them out with that. But
that's where it really starts for you guys. And you
guys are big sports fans, big community fans, and so
this fits right in with what West Michigan's all about absolutely.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
And you know, sure we're in the business to sell
vehicles and service vehicles, but you know what's most important
really when you think about it, is can we support
our communities. Can we build stronger communities the student athletes.
Can we get behind student athletes and really support them
and what can they do to further themselves in the
community or whatever they need to do in their life.
(04:51):
It's it's just a really good feeling for the Fox
group that we have the opportunity and we can.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Do it again. The food drive itself gets underway tomorrow
the fifteenth, and it runs through September twenty fifth, locally
at fox Ford right in Grant Rapids right in Kentwood
officially and you can stop by to find out more
information or as we mentioned with green Apple Pantry. Lastly,
snow's coming. I believe you have some all wheel drives,
(05:17):
some four wheel drive We dickles, and we do if
I was looking for maybe a new Raptor. We're practically
best friends. As they always say, we'll get you a
good deal there. Steve the general manager of Foxford, Steve
Winters a pleasure, thank you for coming in. Thank you,
and I challenge everybody come on out, stop up.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
This is Talk of the Town on news Radio with
thirteen hundred and one oh six nine FM.
