Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Talk of the Town on news radio with
thirteen hundred and one oh six nine FM Steve Kelly
and Brett Pikita from West Michigan's morning News Ladies and gentlemen.
Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Wolverine Worldwide, Cindy Smeith,
thank you so much for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey guys, thanks for having me. It's a pleasure to
be here.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Oh golly, this is a big deal. Folks look forward
to the Big Tent Sale every year. It's coming up
next weekend, Saturday, May eighteen, from eight to four at
Wolverine's headquarters in Rockford. So, Cindy, what sort of things
will be available at the big event.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
This is a big event of the year and it's
really to kick off the summer and we are thrilled
to host it at our headquarters. Shoppers can discover their
favorite footwear and apparel at Wolverines United Way Warehouse Sale.
We've got styles from our family of brands like Merural, Socony, Hushpuppies,
Wolverine and more, and we've got shoes and apparel up
to eighty percent off suggested retail It's incredible. There's thousands

(01:03):
of shoes We've already started setting everything up and we
can't wait to open our doors to the community.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
And I used to work and I've said this on
the radio at Little Red Shoe As was my first
job back in the day, so I know all about shoes.
But to Steve's point, I mean, if you're looking for
shoes for maybe the year boots the deals, this is
the event that you need to go to. It is
incredible and I want to ask you this. Do you
guys have apparel as well? We do.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
We have apparel from our family of brands that go
across the gamut. We've got you know, Socony running shorts
and running tops, and then we have some amazing insulated
jackets from Merrill, some apparel from Wolverine, one of our
other brands. So it's really a come one, come all.
We've got something for everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Also, we now know how to say Socony, which is
really this was worth the price of admission. I've heard
that several different ways, but we heard it right from
Wolverine worldwide. So how exciting. Talk to us a little
bit about you know, sizes will be available, Are there
any is there a grouping in any particular size or
is it everybody.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
So we do have size runs across the board, but
the majority of our inventory lies in sample sizes, and
for those not in the footwear industry, a sample size
translates to a women's size seven and a men's size nine,
so that's where we have the majority of our inventory.
But then we do have shoes across all of the sizes.

(02:28):
It is first come, first serve, so we encourage people
if you're looking for one of those off sizes, to
come early and make sure that you can check out
the stock what we have available, Cindy.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Two things here for those people who aren't familiar necessarily
where the headquarters are. It's not in downtown Rockford where
now the depot is, and I referenced the little at
Shoe house which was ages ago, so let people know
how to get to the headquarters that might not be familiar.
And number two is the fact that you mentioned United Way.
It is their benefit sale. Talk about that connection and

(02:58):
how you guys will raise money for that.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Absolutely, our headquarters are located at ninety three forty one
Courtland Drive Northeast, so it's on the other side of
the beltline from downtown Rockford. It's just a five minute
drive from where we hosted the sale last year. But
we're bringing it back in house to our warehouse, so
back on headquarters campus. What we wanted to do was

(03:21):
open the doors back to the community, bring everyone back
to where we were originally, where we used to do
the sale a few years ago. We will have plenty
of signage on Courtland Drive, so everyone will know exactly
where they should be parking and where the sale entrance is.
So all of that information will be posted on and
is posted on our event page on Facebook for Wolverine Worldwide.

(03:43):
Our relationship with United Way is unique and we hold
it dearly to our hearts. So Wolverine hosts this sale
and the proceeds benefit United Way and the amazing work
that they do throughout our community in West Michigan.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
You know, I've been there several times. In the staff
is wonderful because it takes like a village of people,
because this thing is huge. There are lots of people
that are coming. Again. We are talking to Cindy Smeiths.
We're talking about Wolverine World's worldwide Annual Sale, which is
coming up sooner than you think. Next weekend May eighteenth.
It's eight to four at Wolverine's headquarters in Rockford. You

(04:20):
find them on the Facebook page and they have all
that information speaking of that big crowd and lots of people.
Any tips for like when to get there and how
to shop once I do, I.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Always advise to show up early. Now. Last year, our
first shopper showed up at seven pm the night before,
So you know, it depends how dedicated you are to
footwear and apparel. But we have no problem with people
coming early and lining up as early as they're comfortable with.
But we do open the doors at eight am, and
then we suggest that people show up before three thirty.

(04:51):
We're going to try and close the doors around three
thirty and then give the last shoppers that are within
the warehouse a chance to check out, and then we'll
close the doors officially at four.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
P I think of my son because now he's in
the landscaping business and loves his boots. You gotta have
comfortable boots, and guys will come from miles away to
get their boots for a year at this event. I mean,
that's how cool it is.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Let alone.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
If you're a runner and you want that brand, or
if you're a Merrile lover, and you want to get
ready for the fall. I mean, this is the sale
you can get everything you need for a year, if
not more.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Right, Absolutely, We've got sandals, We've got boots, We've got
you know, flats for any females that are going to work,
you know, in the office and they want to wear,
you know, a cute pair of Hush Puppies. We've got
honestly the whole gamut, including kids shoes. So if you're
looking for your kid's shoes for the summer, this is
a great opportunity to come and get them at a
great price. All of ours, but wear is fifteen dollars,

(05:46):
and then our insulated jackets will be twenty and all
other peril is ten dollars.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
What holy smoked this is? I have three pair of Hushpuppies.
I was just jumping in there.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Steve's gonna be the one brought it at an eight.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Rush puppies are cool. Just so you know, I have
some saddle bucks, and I got a little pair of boots,
and yeah, I'm going to be there at six the
night before. I want to beat last year's record, So again,
discounts up to eighty percent. Wolverine Worldwide's warehouse sale Saturday,
May eighteenth, eight to four at their main headquarters on

(06:22):
Courtland Drive. Again find their Facebook page. Anything else. We
didn't ask you that we should let the audience know
about Cindy.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
No, just that it's going to be an amazing event.
We can't wait to see everyone there, and thanks so
much again.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
The sale benefits the heart of West Michigan United Way.
Find their Facebook page. Senior manager with corporate Communications at
Wolverine Worldwide in Rockford, Cindy Smith, Thank you so much
for your time.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Today, Steve Brett, It's been a pleasure.
