The Fox Motors Big Skin Party is brought to you
by the Fox Motor Group.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Now from the showroom floor.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Of Fox Motors, here's your host, Brick Purky.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Welcome to the Fox Motors Pig Skin Party, our final
show of the twenty twenty five season. We're coming to
you live from Fox Honda on the East belt Line,
just south of twenty eighth Street. We're here every year
for the final show here. It's always a big thing.
Joe Lavoie is the general manager at Fox Honda. Joe,
always a great time to be here. We've got the
Catholic Central Cooters coming in. It's a big part of
your life, your heart, and we're excited to be here.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Well, thank you so much for coming in tonight. Rick.
This is always a great night for the kids, the community.
They get a chance to answer some great questions for you.
So we're always happy to welcome. I'm here at Fox Honda.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
It's all a part of the Fox difference here. Joe,
you guys are. We're so involved with the community. You've
got your drive for twenty five coming up. Tell us
about it.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
So the whole month of October, for every vehicle sold,
we set up twenty five dollars and that twenty five
dollars is going to go to our partner this year
New Growth Project. If you haven't heard about them, it's
a great, great farm out in Rockford. So it's been
a great partnership for us this year.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
High school football a big part of the community in
West Michigan, and Fox Motor is a big part of
that as well. It's an exciting time of the year, Joe,
as we wind down the regular season get ready for
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
So it's really good to get towards the end of
this and then get ready for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Talk a little bit more about what we've got going.
You've got a great inventory selection right now for here
at Fox Honda.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yes, we do, and our key catalyst is always our CRB,
but we have plenty of pilots, Odyssey's Civics accords, the
Honda Pilot, so we've got a little something for everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
If you've got the vehicle that you want. Of course,
financing a big part of it. Tell us what you've
got going with their.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Yeah, we've got that range from zero point ninety nine
up to four point ninety nine. Some models have five
point nine nine, but that's very aggressive in the market
that we've seen over the last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
I know, as we get into fall, getting ready for
the winter season, maintenance is a big part of the
plan here at Fox Honda.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yes, we can check all fluid levels, we can rotate tires,
we can recommend tires if needed, and just make sure
that your vehicle's ready going into the winter, because you
never want to get stranded in the winter. So we
have availability online to make your appointment. It's very easy.
Just pull up and we'll get you taken care of.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
I can assure you if I'm first hand experience that
when you come into Fox Honda's service, they take care
of you, and they do it well. They do it thoroughly,
and they do it quickly here from past experience as well.
What's part of the Fox difference for you, Joe? What
keeps you staying here at foxhunta being part of the
Fox family.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I think it's the involvement with the community and the
culture that we build here. You know, it's every customer matters,
every employee matters, and I just wouldn't work anywhere else.
I'm in the eighteenth year working for Fox and it's
just a wonderful organization. And you know, they we heavily,
you know, get involved in the community, and we're heavily
(03:14):
invested in our employees.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Joel avoid, general manager here at Fox Hunt, will take
a break. We're gonna come back and tell you about
our lineup for our final week of coverage of high
school football in twenty twenty five. You're listening to the
Fox Motors Pickskin Party live from Fox Honda on just
south of twenty eighth Street. We continue on with the
Fox Motors Pickskin Party, coming to you from Fox Honda
(03:37):
on the belt Line, just south of twenty eighth Street,
and we certainly enjoyed visiting with Joe Levoy. We've got
a lot going on around the West Michigan. We're going
to tell you about our schedule coming this week and
take a look at the playoff positions in each region,
the tops of thirty two teams and the teams that
are hanging on. We'll get to that in just a second,
but right now, we want to remind you that we
are truly excited here at nine to six one the
game to be partnering with Kids Food Basket in Lake,
(04:00):
Michigan Credit Union again this season in the Touchdowns for
Kids promotion this year. For every touchdown scored in our
nine to six to one and one oh seven mus
Lake Shore games of the Week, our good friends at
LMCU will donate fifty dollars to Kids Food Basket to
nourish local kids to reach their full potential. And now
we'll tell you that through Week eight we've raised five
(04:21):
four hundred and fifty dollars in our two games of
the week and it's gonna go on with this Week
nine coming up and the playoffs again over almost five
five hundred dollars. That brings our four year total in
this program with LMCU donating to Kids Food Basket over
twenty four thousand dollars. That's what makes it special here
and it's a great part donating to the community and
(04:43):
speaking of the community, with Joe mentioned it in our
last segment, it is the drive for twenty five all
this month at Fox Honda for system wide in the
Fox Motor system, every vehicle sold, whether it's new or used,
they donate twenty five dollars to the charity this week,
this year, and this year's charity. Joe mentioned briefly about
(05:08):
a New Growth Project. New Growth Project employees individuals with
disabilities by growing nourishing vegetables for our community. Ordain Nation
makes it possible. Eighty one percent of individuals with an
intellectual development disability are unemployed, isolated from the community and
opportunities to develop skills and connection. This population feels stuck
and without options. But that's where New Growth Project steps
(05:28):
in and again all month long, if you buy a
new or used vehicle from any Fox Motors location, they'll
donate twenty five dollars to New Growth Project. That's amazing,
tremendous contribution and a great, great cause, So check that
out New Growth Project online. This Friday night, our final
week of regular season action, we are two play by
(05:49):
play games on ninety six to one. In the game
Zealand West and West Catholic, Brett Pakeita and Buck Gino
want to call it would be a great one six
and two Zealand West seven and one West Catholic our
one oh seven m us game of the week on
the lake Shore North Muskegan at Oakridge, North Muskegan six
and two, Oakridge five and three. Couple of big games.
We've got game reporters who will do file pregame reports,
(06:09):
halftime live updates, and then detailed postgame reports on our
Meer scoreboard show. We've got reporters going to Godwin Heights
at Belding and the OK Silver Showdown. It's a winner
take off for the OK Silver between Godwin and Belding.
Bo Hopson will report from that one throughout the night.
On Friday, Raven at Montague, a couple of teams at
four and four trying to secure their playoff spot. Scott
Decamper report that one throughout the night. And Fruitport at Hopkins.
(06:32):
A big game there, both teams looking at playoff situations.
They're both four and four where they could get in
with a win. They might get in with a loss,
but they want to win to make sure they have
their best chance. Lucas Symbol report on that one. We'll
also have reports on Forestills Northern and north View, a
big game there for both those schools, and Jennison at
Caledonia with playoff points on the line for Jennison for sure,
(06:52):
Caledonia possibly Jeff Damind. Dan Hasey will report that one
for us. Now, let's take a quick look at the
rankings by division the area teams that are in. I
apologize area teams. I just got this this afternoon and
I might have missed one, so I apologize, But here's
it is. In Division one, the top thirty two teams
(07:13):
are in as of now going into week nine. Hudsonville
is number two, Rockford seven, He's Kent Withoo seventeen, Granville
twenty seven, and Jennison twenty eight. There's your top in
the top thirty two. Now, the first ten out as
of currently are Caledonia at three and five, so obviously
a Caledonia win might very well get them in the
top thirty two. They'll have to win this week at
(07:35):
home against Jennison. Jennison of course trying to hang on
to that top thirty two with the spot, so that's
a big game. We'll have reports on that throughout the night.
Division two top thirty two teams. Muskegan is number ten,
Byron Center thirteen, Muskegan, Mona Shores is twenty seven. North
View is number thirty currently, so they certainly need to
get a win to keep their hopes alive. In Division two.
(07:58):
Division three, the top thirty two Kenawa Hills number five, East,
Grand Rapids number seven, Cedar Springs number ten, Hastings number thirteen.
Lowell is also tied for thirteenth. Zealand West is eighteenth,
Zealand East is twenty second, Thornapple Kellogg twenty four and
(08:18):
Coopersville twenty nine. So a lot of area teams in
the top thirty two in division three and just outside
the top thirty two in the top ten is Fores Central.
Hoping to keep their hopes alive, they'll need a win
and some help on Friday night. In Division four, the
top thirty two teams that are currently in unity. Christian
is number four, Luddington eleven, Godwin Heights is number thirteen,
(08:42):
Big Rapids is number seventeen, Grand Rapids Christian twenty four,
Spring Late twenty six, so those are the top in
the top thirty two. Now just outside in the top ten,
Holland Christian is just outside at number thirty three, and
Sparta and Forstills Eastern are both in the top ten outside,
so they'll need a win and some help on Friday
(09:03):
night in Division five top thirty two teams. The very
two top teams in the top thirty two Division five,
both area teams. Catholic Central is number one, West Catholic
is number two, Whitehall number thirteen, Oakridge in Muskegan, Oakridge
is twenty three, Kelloggsville is twenty eight, and Hopkins has
the very last spot currently number thirty two. So they've
(09:23):
got their big game. That's why we've got a reporter
there Friday night covering that Fruitport Rockford game. Orchard View
by the way, just outside the top thirty two in
Division five and Division six the top thirty two. Belding
is number four, Kent City is number six, Reach City
number nine, Montague number twenty five, just outside the top ten.
Nobody in the area. Division seven top thirty two. North
(09:47):
Muskegan is fourteen, Saranac is twenty, Ravenna is twenty two,
Shelby is twenty six, and Morley Stanwood just outside the
top thirty two. In Division seven Division eight, nobody in
the top thirty two. Myskige Catholic Central is the first
team out currently at thirty two, skiing Catholic Central will
have to win on Friday and hope for a little
help above them an eight player ball. Nobody in Division one.
(10:10):
Currently ranked in Division two. Sacred Heart Grand Rapid Sacred
Heart is number seven currently in Division one. That's the
setup there for the top teams in all divisions going
into Week nine. Some teams on the bubble, some teams
have got their play secured. Some teams not only playing,
they've already got their spots secured, but now they're playing
to get a home game in round one. So a
lot coming up. And on Sunday night and the Selection Show,
(10:31):
we'll tell you more about that. A little later on
they'll announce officially who's in and who's playing against two
and where in the first round. I will take a
break from our final show of the season here on
Fox Honda's Fox Motors Pigskin Party, will come back with
Catholic Central coach Todd Colster. His players will join us
later later in the show, but Coach Colster next here
on the Fox Motors Pickskin Party live from Fox Honda
(10:53):
on the East belt Line just south of twenty eighth Street.
We continue with the Fox Motorspigskin Party, coming to you
from Fox Honda on the belt Line just South the
twenty eighth Street. Stop in check out their terrific inventory.
Our guest tonight, the Catholic Central Cougars. Cougar players will
join us a little bit later on in the show,
(11:13):
but head coach Todd Koltser joined us now Catholic Central
eight and oh on the season five and oh and okay,
black title coach, you clinched the outright title last Friday
night with an impressive Winter of Northview, And I know
that's always a high priority to win that conference.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah, it's really our one major team goal is to
win our conference. You know, we don't talk a whole
lot about the playoffs. We don't talk a whole lot
about beyond that. It's put our focus on the conference
and then if we win that, then we know we'll
be in the playoffs and we'll know we'll have a
pretty good team going in.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Speaking of talking, there's been a lot of talk around
the area about your defense, especially this year. Great depth,
and you guys have really played well on the defensive side.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Yeah, we've done a great job. Our kids buy into
it big time. It's something that we've done really since
I have been here, and I think, well beyond me
getting here. I think defense has been such a big
priority with our football team, and so you know, Joel
Pass and all Connor Lafeer, John Vandenberg, three of our
(12:14):
defensive assistants that do a tremendous job and like I said,
and their kids buying into it. And you know, the
funny thing is, we were just talking the other day.
We've played great defense, but certainly we look at it
as coaches and we're like, man, there's a lot of
things we can clean up and become even better.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
So that's certainly the goal.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
One of the things that you rely on to have
a successful season like you're having is senior leadership, and
you've got that again this year.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Yeah, we were really fortunate. We've got a really good
senior group and really starting to come together at the
right time. And so please with what they're doing. And
some of our senior leaders, I mean, if you look
at it, you know, up front, just a couple of
guys Tommy Freeman and Dean Armack and Agason have been
(13:01):
playing on our offensive line. The Amir Pratt and Andrew
Kyleen and Jacob brought us on our defensive line, and
you know, certainly Keith Chander Noah has been a big plus.
Dale Gant in the secondary along with Andy JCole on
the perimeter for us and Nick Jobs really stepped up
so a lot. All the other guys are doing a
(13:21):
great job, but those guys certainly have really started to
step up their game at the right time of the year.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
With Todd Colster Catholic Central Cougar's head coach Tyd, your
program historically is not been adverse to bringing a freshman
and sophomore and playing them right away on the varsity level.
That's got to be a tough thing for a young
man who's you know, maybe played with kids each level
as they've grown up, and he had a chance to say,
look at a sophomore whether to go to the varsity
(13:47):
or stay with his mates you know that he's played with.
How do you address that when you talk with them.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Well, I think every situation's unique, but I think when
you have those things, the first thing that jumps out
is the physical ability to be able to do it,
I think. And then then you start looking at from
a health and safety standpoint, can they handle it? Are
they at any greater risk than they would be playing
lower level football? And then I think the last component
(14:13):
is the social piece of you know, can they fit
in and and can they do the things you know
and earn their respect to their peers and so on,
And so we've been very fortunate that we've had some
some younger guys over the years step up and help
our football team.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Speaking of younger guys, Todd, do you started a freshman
quarterback Spencer last year and he's now sophomore. He's made
some steps up. How do you rate his growth from
freshman to sophomore year?
Speaker 5 (14:40):
Oh, I think Odin's done a really good jobs. He
has grown a lot. He's he's got so much room
for growth even yet. But you know, just him his
confidence level. I think his ability to run the football
has been good. I think his his ability to defensively
to gain a better under standing of our offense and
(15:01):
what we're trying to do, he's really improved in that area.
So as we continue to get better each week, is
really just trying to push him to become more consistent
with everything that he's doing. So very pleased with him
so far.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
You and I were talking before we started this conversation
about the depth of the Okay Black this year. You
talked about him. You thought it's a strong Maybe it's
been in a while.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Yeah, certainly we've only been in it two years. But
I think the conference was definitely much stronger than it
was a year ago. All all the teams are much improved.
I think we have good coaches throughout the league, and so,
you know, playing each other for a second time around
two you see the fact of different things going, you know,
coaches doing different things and recognizing things differently and so on.
(15:51):
So but it's really been good this week this year.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Conference crown in the bank right now you get ready
for the playoffs. Now the Week nine non conference game
against a strong South Christian program, which you've said before,
is a really good tune up for you for the postseason.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
Yeah, I think, excuse me, Rick, the I think a
lot of the program at South Christian and our kids do.
We have a ton of respect for them, and so
having the opportunity to play them and challenge us and
hopefully us challenge them right back, is I think great
for both of our teams. It's become a really nice rivalry,
(16:31):
you know, and I think, like I said, anytime you
have as much respect for one another as we do,
for them. I think those are when your rivalries become
the best.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Todd, there's I'm hearing more talk this year about some
coaches being a favor of expanding the playoffs and making
Week nine of the season right now the first round
of playoffs. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 5 (16:53):
You know, I guess I have mixed feelings on it.
The traditionalist and me still still would like to see
some sort of requirement to make the playoffs as we
have now. You know, now, of course it's not necessarily
win number of wins, but I think, you know, we're
running into some problems with scheduling still, and so I
(17:18):
think that's where some of the coaches that are struggling
to schedule. Certainly we are struggling to schedule and find
non league games, and in our conference in particular, we
have to find four non league games every year. It
just really becomes a challenge in terms of trying to
find opponents and things of that nature. So, but I'm
(17:39):
certainly open to anything that makes the game better.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
And you've had to go with that challenge coach out
state and out of state when you play a team
outside the state of Michigan, what particular challenges does that
bring to you for your program?
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Well, I think one of the things that's been interesting,
you know, playing schools from Ohio, playing schools from Indiana
and Illinois. You know, you look at those states and
their state associations and how different they are from ours,
and in particular, when do they start practice and what
are they allowed to do in the summer and in
terms of their preparation, and so when you look at
(18:15):
teams like Indiana certainly that have the ability to have
padded practices throughout the summer, they start a week earlier,
so we're always going to play them, and our first
game will be their second game, so they've already had
a game to get under their belt a little bit. Ohio,
you know, has has one or two depending on the year,
(18:36):
but they start practice two weeks earlier than us in
Ohio this past year. So there's some challenges that way, certainly.
But then the travel of course, and making sure the
travel time and you know within school most schools around
us are starting earlier, and so you have to get
a kid out of school for a whole day versus
(18:57):
maybe not even get a kid out of school in
some places too, so for travel purposes, but so yeah,
there are some unique challenges to it, but it's also
I think our kids enjoy it because of just a
different challenge, a different team, you know, a different environment,
and so those are always fun too.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Tad, you send over a pack of Cougars players to
visit with us, So what do we get to them?
And thanks for joining us again.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
We'll take a break and come back. Well, we'll talk
with the players from Catholic Central High School as we
continue with the Foxwolter's Pig Skin Party live from fox Honda.
Stay with us we continue on with the Fox Water
Tich Skin Party. Compan you live from fox Honda on
(19:44):
twenty just off of twenty eighth Street, south of twenty
eighth here on the East belt line, Rick Burkeye in
the saddle right now talking with some Catholic Central Cougar
is a number of them joining us here at Fox Honda.
Braydon Sweeney is a senior linebacker and running back on
this team. And uh, Braiden, Uh, your favorite class at
Catholic Central is math class. When did your interest in
(20:05):
math com and why do you like math so much?
Speaker 6 (20:08):
I think early on in middle school I kind of
found out I was math can kind of easy to me,
and from then on it kind of was one of
my favorite classes just because it was easy and I
enjoyed uh figuring out problems.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Braden. One of the things we asked the guys is
what they do the night before the game? What they
like to eat? What do you feast on on the
night before a game?
Speaker 6 (20:27):
Usually have team dinner and often we have pasta. So
pasta a lot. Yeah, So what I have to say,
I'll say pasta. I love pasta.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
What about after the game? Do you guys usually go
on your own or do you go out as a group?
What do you do after the game?
Speaker 6 (20:40):
Yeah, some some guys kind of do their own thing,
But me and some of the guys get together, usually
go to Freddy's, get a get a burger, smash burger
and some fries and all that good.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Stuff, concrete mixture, go with it out, bet gotta give
gotta give it bit stuff. You're a very very blessed
situation right now, Braiden. You've already accepted a football scholarship
to Purdue. Tell us what it was about the Purdue
program and the campus, everything went into it. Why you
chose to go to West Lafayette for college.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
Well, you know, they offered me pretty early on, or
not too early on, but going into my junior year,
in the middle of my junior year, and I think
it's every Midwest every kid that grows up the Midwest
to dream to play in the Big Ten. And at
the time they're on my big tit they were my
only Big Ten offers. So it's pretty easy decision from there.
And I love the coaches there. I think I love
the town. I love West Lafayette And how.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Many times did you get down to see West Lafayette.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
I committed my second visit there, which was late March.
I believe.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Okay, you want to take business at They're certainly a
very fine academic institution as well. What are you thinking
about doing with your business degree when you're done with football?
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I want to become a coach.
Speaker 6 (21:44):
My stepdad he's a coach at Grand Valley State, so
you know, I look up to him and he's had
a big influence on my life.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
So I want to be a coach.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Do you want to coach college or do you wantch
high school?
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Or don't you think coach college? Yeah, that I'd be
interested in coach coach.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Suret's a big influence. You're like, tell us why.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
You know He's someone I'll look up to and someone
that I want to be like. You know, I think
he's a great man of faith and a leader of
leader of UH. He leads us obviously, so you know,
he's just someone has always been there for me and
he's been an influence on my life and decisions.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Braiden, we ask every player that appears on this show
to think back through all the education in middle school,
elementary school, high school and pick out one teacher that
was especially influential to you. Who is yours and why
mine was?
Speaker 6 (22:30):
His name is mister Boris, and he's my eighth grade
middle school teacher. He's just super fun and like sports
a lot. So I was able to talk with him
about that a lot, and like I said, I like.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Math a lot.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
So that was an allen Dale middle School middle school.
So you went up, Did you go public through middle school?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
I moved to Grand Rapids in seventh grade and then
UH and then went to ellen Dale and then I
moved went to Calay Central.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Braiden, As you get ready for the playoffs, what do
you think the biggest strength of this team is going
into uh you've got week nine, of course, a big
this week with Luman Christian. I'm not with Leuman Christie
South Christian South Christian, excuse me, thank you, but as
far as that, but also the biggest strength for this
team overall through eight weeks.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
I think we fight, you know, I think were I
think we fight, and we've been in some tough situations
this year, but every every week we continue to find
a way to get out on top. And I think
we fight together and we we do things together.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
I think that's our strength. I don't really brighton.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Before you pass the microphone over to Dean, tell me
about a little bit about him as a person. Uh,
not as a player, but as a person. Tell me
about Dean.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Dean. Dean's a great guy, great guy.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
He uh, you know, a guy I can rely on
to get the job done and someone who you can
rely on to work hard and do what he's got
to do to get the job done.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
All right, let's pass that micro from the guy who
does get the job of Gean Armack, a senior tight
end and outside linebacker, also plays baseball for Catholic Central
High School. In fact, you'd like to play baseball in college.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Right, yes, yeah, that's the player, that's the goal.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
So what do you what are you looking at for
for for schools? Maybe play college baseball?
Speaker 7 (24:01):
Yeah, so I've played, I've I haven't offer it down
in like Indiana D three down there, but yeah, I've
just been looking at like you, Chicago, Hillsdale, different schools
like that. But the recruiting process he goes pretty late
into the year. So right now I'm just focused on
developing and get better as a player.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Financing business also going to be your major at school
wherever you end up. What would you like to do
with that degree? Do you think eventually?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (24:27):
So my dad's into business. He's kind of engineering and
then he turned into business and I've always admired his work,
ethic and the thing he does. And I just like
the idea of managing like a business, having to solve problems.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
And you see yourself coming back and working with dad,
or would you want to do your thing?
Speaker 2 (24:44):
I don't know about that. Hey, I don't know. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Dean likes Mexican food the night before a game, so
tell us a little bit about what's on that plate
and the night before you just tell me what's on
that big play of yours.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
Yeah, so you need the rights is the base for
sure to get get the carbs going. And then you
eat the protein or you know, recover the muscles after
a long week of practice, and then you throw on
some cheese, some salsa, and you know it's a good time.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
You play tight end and outside linebacker for the Cougars.
It's kind of a neat thing for you because when
you're a tight end, you're going against the outside linebacker
or the other side, and when you're outside line or
it goes to tight end, so you get it both ways.
Are what are some of the keys, let's say, is
a tight end when you're lining up as a tight
end when you know the plays coming, what are the
keys you're looking for for that linebacker across from you.
Speaker 7 (25:32):
I mean, I think it's just getting your body in
a good position to make the block or whatever it
is you're doing. If you're we ran a lot of
outsides against Northview, So my biggest goal is came out
footwork making that linebacker. Uh kind of worried to get
up the outside and just try to gain an edge there.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
So your favorite class at CC is Honors Chemistry. Tell
us about that, Dean while you like that.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Yeah, so I took that.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (25:58):
I took that my sophomore year, and Missus Swytek was
my teacher and she's she's a great person, a great teacher,
and I've had a lot of good classmates in that class,
and every single day is a fun time to be there.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Your faith is a big part of your life. Tell
us about that, Dean.
Speaker 7 (26:15):
Uh yeah, so, yeah, it's definitely important to me. I
grew up Catholic, and yeah, I mean, I'm so blessed
by donn to be here and have everything I have
and have the opportunities I have go to Calic Central.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So you guys have pretty deep uniforms. By the way,
don't you about those units, because they're better than most.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yeah, I can go through them. Uh So.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
Home jerseys, I'll start with the away actually because we
have less. We have white, two white jerseys, one with
blue lettering, and then the second one has yellow.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
So you don't have the white with the white lettering anymore.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Doing all those are practice jerseys now, so good.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
I had to call a game once two years when
you were white on white and you couldn't read the number.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
My grandpa didn't like those very much.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
So then yeah, I have two away jerseys, and then
we have our classic blues. We have all gray, all black,
and yeah, we have to do some different combinations with that.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Doan you go back to All Saints Academy for your
all time favorite teacher? Who tell us who that was?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
And why? Yeah? This so well as mister Kress use my.
Speaker 7 (27:18):
I want to say seventh grade homeroom teacher and my
math teacher for most of my time there, and All
Saints Academy, I think at nine ten people in my class.
Very small school, so I got to know him really well.
He's he's a role model for me as a young
age and he's a really great guy. And I, yeah,
you really showed me what it means to be a
(27:38):
good person.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
And you like The Office TV show? Who's your favorite
Cary Office?
Speaker 2 (27:42):
It's hard not to say Michael, But I like Dwight too.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Dwight it's tough to turn down.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
He is really tough. It's a oh all.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Right, I'm gonna ask you individually what you think. Let's
just take it as an outside linebacker, what's your biggest
strength as an outside linebacker? And what do you have
to still get better at.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
My biggest strength is definitely my experience.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
I got pulled up freshman year, and then I've just
been on varsity for three years now, three and a
half years doing the same position, So I think I
can read my keys pretty efficiently now. And it's it's
there's not really new things I need to learn. The
biggest thing I need to work on is I'm taking
more reps than I ever have, and adjusting from defense
(28:24):
to offense has been something I need to kind of
approve on and switch gears faster.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Well, Dina Armack, you and Brandon Sweeney, we appreciate you
stopped by. We've got some nice Pigskin Party teachers for you,
so good luck this week and down the road to
both of you.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Thank you thanks for having us.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Well take a great come back with a couple more cougars.
We got four still on tap. Stay with us. The
Fox Motors Piskin Party coming to you live from Foxhanda

(29:01):
two ninety eight a month. That's right, just two ninety eight.
The Honda hr V at Lex all wheel drive just
two sixty nine a month, and the Honda Accord Hybrid
the hybrid just three fifty five a month. Here at
Fox Honda visiting with the Catholic Central Cougars. Kamal Hillard
is a senior running back on this team, also runs
track for CC. Tell us about the events you're competing
(29:22):
at track.
Speaker 8 (29:24):
I run the four by one and the one hundred
and two hundred.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Quite a different approach between track and football. Tell us
mentally how you approach it, because it is drastically different track.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
I definitely say like it's less it's less.
Speaker 9 (29:39):
Mentally hard on you, and football is pretty mentally hard
and challenging on you. So I feel I just got
to get ready more for football than I do for track.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
You really like your field there, You've guys got an
incredible sort of stadium. Tell us about what's special while
playing a home game at Catholic Central.
Speaker 9 (29:57):
It just it just feels it just feels great, uh,
being with the community and the people, and I like
the like the Cougar statue, and I also like our
end zone.
Speaker 8 (30:08):
I like the blue color and stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Your favorite class at CC is science. Why do you
like science so much?
Speaker 10 (30:13):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (30:13):
Because that's what I'm what I'm going to major in,
and I like I like playing and messing around with computers.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
So you want to take computer science wherever you end up.
You haven't decided yet where you're gonna go, but tell
us some schools you're thinking about attending CAMAL.
Speaker 9 (30:27):
I'm thinking about going to like Grand Valley or Western Michigan.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
And are you are you thinking about playing sports? Uh?
Speaker 8 (30:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Okay? What what? What do you haven't made that decision yet?
Speaker 1 (30:39):
What?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
What elements will make that decision for you? What are
the things you say when? What will have to happen
for you to decide? That's where I want to go
to school?
Speaker 8 (30:46):
Uh? I feel like.
Speaker 9 (30:50):
Uh, I feel like the thing that I decided this
is probably how how good the rest of this year
ago and how good track goes for me?
Speaker 3 (30:59):
That certainly will you. You got a full year ahead
of You got a big game this week, and then
you got the playoffs coming up as well. Chicken wings
the night before they get what's your personal record for
number of wings. You've down how many?
Speaker 9 (31:10):
I'll probably say, like you're talking about the whole wings
or the little.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Wingdings, So the whole wings, the whole.
Speaker 9 (31:15):
Wings, probably I could probably eat. I probably ate like ten,
ten before ten.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Oh yeah, oh, your teammates saying, oh, come on, that's low,
that's a low number. They can do fifteen or twenty.
The guy on this show a couple of weeks ago,
so he did twenty two just the other night.
Speaker 8 (31:29):
So I like to take my time eating chicken, all right, enjoy?
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Come on, your grandma was a big part of your life.
Tell us about your grandma.
Speaker 9 (31:36):
She just worked hard all the time and motivated me
to work hard. And I look at her as my
role model and I love her so much.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
That's awful nice to hear, and I'm sure she appreciates
that as well. Think back all your education and think
of your all time favorite teacher. Who was it? And why.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
My third grade teacher mis hinges Because when the Ghoda
State Warriors of the Cleveland Cavaliers had the you know,
the basketball series. Yes, yeah, she let us, she let
us remake it.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Yeah, you redid it in class.
Speaker 9 (32:08):
Yep, we went outside on the basketball court and we
did it.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Who did you get to be?
Speaker 8 (32:12):
I was lebron.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I was gonna ask you. That's a great, great thing
as well. I want you to tell me a little
bit about this team. What do you think is the
best the biggest strength of this Catholic Central team this year?
Speaker 9 (32:27):
Come on, we know where we're we at and we
know we have to get better. And I also feel
like our defense is a is a strong part of
our team.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
What was your first year on the varsity at at.
Speaker 9 (32:40):
CC My sophomore year. I got moved up for the
no I was I was up the whole year my
sophomore year.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Yeah, tell us if you can think back to that
sophomore year, that was a while back. Come on, but
what was the biggest, most difficult changed adjustment you had
to make when you went from playing freshman ball to varsity,
Because that's quite a jump.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
It was.
Speaker 8 (32:59):
I couldn't slack. Always has to work hard, all.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Right, great bro? What do you what do you where
do you shift? Have to get better as a running back?
Speaker 8 (33:08):
My balance? I gotta work with my balance definitely.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
What did you work on this summer getting ready for
the season.
Speaker 9 (33:15):
I lifted a lot of weights and I also did
a lot of training.
Speaker 8 (33:19):
During the off season.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
All right, well, with best of luck to you. We
got a T shirt for you as well. Before you do,
tell me about Dale, tell me about as a person.
What why he's a good guy? Tell me why Dale is?
Speaker 8 (33:30):
Dale is very intelligent.
Speaker 9 (33:31):
Whenever I've done the answer to some as Dale, He's
a reliable person and I love him to death.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
That's a great thing to say about a friend that's passed.
Mike phone over. Dale, you got a tough act to
follow thereas he loves you to death? Or he's a
pretty good friend, isn't he?
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir he is.
Speaker 11 (33:47):
This is a great He's a great guy. Definitely someone
that have around you out all times. You know, moll
is a great guy. You know, he's fun to be around,
great energy, and it's just all around great dude.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Dale, you play safety and running back, started both sides.
Speaker 11 (34:01):
He's He's get taken most of the reps I running back,
but I still I still get something.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
I started at safety.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Though, what uh if coach says you're going to play
on one side of the ball, which one you're gonna choose?
Speaker 2 (34:10):
And why? I probably picked defense just because I like
hitting people.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
You'd rather be the hammer than the nail, right, Yeah,
you also wrestle at CC. How long you been wrestling?
Speaker 11 (34:20):
I've been wrestling since I was six years old. So
why did you pick that interest up? My dad Actually
so I was always kind of the smaller kid, so
they had put me in wrestling so I could like
build some toughness as a kid.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Wow, six years old? You remember going to tournaments way
back when you were little like that? I do, Yeah,
thats what was your most memorable tournament is? Like a
six or seven year old?
Speaker 11 (34:42):
I think it was the first tournament that I ever
took first place at.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
I was I was.
Speaker 11 (34:46):
Just super excited and I didn't even know how to
feel being.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
A six year old kid just having fun.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Did you get a medal or a trophy?
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Or yeah I got a trophy.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Did you sleep with it that night?
Speaker 2 (34:57):
I bet you did as well.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Running out of the tunnel is a big thing at Catholics,
and tell us why that's so special. Tell us somebody
who's never seen a game at CC, what it's like.
Speaker 11 (35:05):
Just the tradition at SEC in general, you know, we
have a great community, great great coaches, great people around
us and that tunnel is just something that really gets
everybody going. Everybody loves to see. It really brings the
energy to the Cooker Stadium.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
You shore the smoke machine too, Yeah, that makes it special.
It makes a big time as well. You like anatomy
class at Catholic Central. Why do you like anatomy so much?
Speaker 11 (35:29):
We do a lot of hands on work and I
feel like that helps. That helps me learn a lot better,
and it's just it's just a fun class in general.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
You know. Back to your wrestling, You've received an offer
to wrestling college from where.
Speaker 11 (35:44):
I've received offers from CMU and ms U, and then
I'm talking to Morgan State and Kent State as well,
working on offers from there as well.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
You'd like to teach down the road, right?
Speaker 2 (35:56):
That was planned?
Speaker 11 (35:57):
The main The main goal is like I want to
go to law school after college, and with law school
you can get in with pretty much any thing.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Any undergrad Yeah. Yeah, so again you're looking at m
s U, c m U, Kent State, Morgan State. Where
did Morgan Straight Interests come from? Is that because they
caught the track? Do you?
Speaker 11 (36:14):
Yeah? Their assistant coach a great dude. He went he
wrestled with some of my some of my coaches as well.
So he was talking to them, looking looking and talking
about me.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Dale, we ask you the same thing. Think back of
all your education elementary, middle, high school, and your all
time favorite teachers.
Speaker 8 (36:33):
Who it was my fourth grade teacher, mister Johnson.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Uh, why did you connect with mister Johnson?
Speaker 11 (36:39):
Mister Johnson was mister Johnson was just a great dude
in general. You know, he was always he was always
there for you and he and he just was such
a down to earth person that you could talk to
him about anything.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Dale, who's the best singer on this team? Don't say yourself.
Who's the best singer?
Speaker 2 (36:57):
The best singer on this team?
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Help him out. I'm the best singer on the team.
Speaker 11 (37:01):
Yes, I'm not gonna throw you.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah. Michael Wafflin, Michael Walflan Definitely.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Who's the worst singer on this team?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Braden Sweeney?
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Oh good thing. He's not gonna come after you now.
Does he know he can't sing? How only bad singers
don't know that?
Speaker 6 (37:18):
An don't let him lie to you.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
We believe you, Dale, I believe you anyway. Hey, best
of luck to you, Dale, And also uh Cabal, So
we got a couple of shirts for you. Thanks for
joining us, and best of luck this weekend down the road.
Speaker 2 (37:33):

senior on the team, wide receiver and defensive back on
the team, also plays baseball for the Cougars. What position
(38:44):
do you play in baseball? Nick, hold On, Sorry didn't
turn That's my mistake. My air go ahead baseball.
Speaker 12 (38:50):
I play shortstop, third base and second base and pitch occasionally.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
So again I was asking one of your teammates about
the adjustment there. That's quite a differ mentally, you have
to approach the game to right.
Speaker 12 (39:03):
Oh yeah, big time baseball is Baseball is like a
huge mental game, like you you have.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
To have a really short memory.
Speaker 12 (39:11):
And football it's it's definitely a mental game too, but
it's a lot more physically demanding than baseball.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
So it's two different definitely two different games.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
JP. Stats and theology your favorite classes at Catholic Central
High School. Tell us about those classes and why they
appeal to you.
Speaker 12 (39:26):
Well, theology is one of my favorite classes because I
think it's really interesting and I always enjoy learning more
about my faith, especially about more about Catholicism as well
and ap stats. I think that I think it's a
pretty practical class. And you know, I'm doing pretty WELLID
at the moment, so adds to enjoyment.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
After your baseball you're obviously pretty good. You academic All
State baseball and also all conference. Uh, but you received
a baseball offer to play in college? Right?
Speaker 10 (39:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (39:56):
It quite us.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Tell us what it is about. You haven't decided yet
where you're gonna go, But what other schools are you
thinking about? Besides Aquitas, Michigan.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
State, and GVSU. Probably those are the top three Right now.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
I'm gonna give you a scenario with it you might
have to face here, Nick, and that is, you might
be looking at one situation and you like that baseball
situation a little better, but academically you like the other
school better. How are you gonna make that choice if
that happens?
Speaker 12 (40:25):
You know, I really probably just spend some time talking
with my family and.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Reflecting and other stuff.
Speaker 12 (40:34):
But I believe in the end I'll.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Make the right decision, and I bet you will your
grandparents been a big part of your life. Tell us
about them.
Speaker 12 (40:41):
Yeah, I mean they're They're always my huge supporters. They're
always at my games. They've always been since I was little.
They've really taught me the importance of family, and I
think that's really why I'm a really family oriented person
is because of my grandparents, and they taught me the
importance of that in my in life.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Nick, you liked the team room at CC after the games.
Tell us about the team room. What goes on there?
Speaker 12 (41:04):
You know, after a big win, it gets pretty hype
in there. Coach Coaster comes in. We just go chanting, yes, yes, yes,
So it's a great time in there.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
What was again, Let's say, let's say your senior season,
they called off football right now. For the rest of
the year, for every team across the state, it was canceled.
What would be your one biggest memory of your high
school career do you think if it had stopped right now?
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Man, that's a difficult question.
Speaker 12 (41:33):
Probably definitely sophomore year winning our state championship game. That
team telling me a lot of good lessons and it
was just a really memorable experience. I'm so happy I
got to be a part of that, what do you
take What do you remember mostly from the game at
Ford Field, what one part of that stands out to you.
I really remember we had this game winning interception by
(41:54):
mil Coleman. I remember coach Lafear, our dB coach, getting
pretty hyph, you know. And then I remember our quarterback
Connor Wolf had a pretty big legacy game that that
game too.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
So yeah, all.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Right, tell us about your all time favorite teacher and why.
Speaker 12 (42:11):
My all time favorite teacher, Dean said, one of my
favorites mister Kres Austin's Academy. But at Catholic Central, my
favorite teacher is Coach Nelson. He's my something called my
corm Dale teacher. Mean, it's basically just like a homeroom teacher,
but it's this class of like twenty boys.
Speaker 8 (42:28):
So he's he's been a big influence on me.
Speaker 12 (42:32):
Uh He's given me great, great advice, great support. But
he's also pretty hard on me too, and I really
appreciate that he pushes you.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Yeah, he pushes me pretty hard.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
So yeah, all right, great, all right, Nicholas passing the
mic phone over to Keith. Keith Janderoa was senior of
this team. Cornerback on this team, and one of your
teammates mentioned going to Freddie's afterwards for you like that?
Speaker 2 (42:55):
Yeah, it's my favorite part.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
Tell us what you order it Freddy's.
Speaker 10 (42:58):
I just get chicken tenders and I always get an
Oreo shake.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Oh yeah, you gotta have the shake, especially after a win. Right.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
You like pre engineering class at CC, tell us about that.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Oh, it's my favorite.
Speaker 10 (43:10):
We always do group work and always working on some project,
and I'm fortunate to have a great group with teammates
like Brandon Sweeney and Tommy Freeman.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
You have not decided where you're gonna go to school.
Tell us what schools you're thinking about right now.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
I'm thinking about Marquette.
Speaker 10 (43:22):
It's where my dad went, and on my first visit there,
the first person I met was Dwayne Wade, which kind
of sold me.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Well that was a little bit of an influence. Well, yeah,
that's good. Now that's that's a little bit of ways
from home. How would you handle Will that be adjustment
for you to be that far away from home friends
and family?
Speaker 10 (43:37):
I don't think so. I think I'll do find wherever
I am. It's six hours too, so if I really
wanted to come back. I could definitely make the trip.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
You like pulled pork the night before? Oh yeah, tell
me about that pulled pork sandwich.
Speaker 10 (43:49):
Well, my dad was talking it up all summer because
we always have team meal before the game, and all
summer he's like, I can't wait to make pulled pork,
my special pulled pork for your whole team before your
dad makes it.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
He makes it. Yep, And he made it all day.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
The day before. It must have been a massive.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Boy a lot. It was a lot of pounds. I
forgot what it was, but he was talking up a lot.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Well, you mentioned your dad, but your your three brothers
a big influence your life. Tell us about your brothers, Am,
Are you the youngest, No, I'm the oldest. You're the oldest.
Us about your brothers.
Speaker 10 (44:18):
So I have one brother that's really close to me
and he has always been a big influence, competing with
him in every sport. And then I have two more
little brothers, which I'm eleven years older than one and
eight years older than the other, and being a big
brother for them has been really fun.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Just think back about your all time favorite teacher. Who
was it and why I was?
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Probably mister Mitner.
Speaker 10 (44:35):
He's my middle school teacher, and he taught science and
he always made science interesting. And we had a very
troublesome class, especially the boys, and he was always the
one to kind of figure out what the problem was
and how to fix it and were the problem?
Speaker 1 (44:47):
I was not the problem.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
I want to ask you, as a cornerback on the team,
what's your biggest strength as a player and what are
you what do you know you still have to get
better at.
Speaker 10 (44:56):
I think knowing the coverages now and being able to
know like when I can make a play and when
I can't, and like when I can go up to
make a tackle. I want to stay back in coverage.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
You guys clinched the Okay Black title with a win
last week. What did that mean to you? To win
a conference championship?
Speaker 10 (45:12):
I meant a lot now I could contribute to one.
I won one earlier in the sophomore year, but I
just got pulled up and I didn't really do anything
to earn it. I felt so really trying to earn
it for my team.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
I saw you run it as a sophomore, You run
that team that wanted to stay titled.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Then right, Yeah, that was that was fun.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
What do you remember about that Ford Field experience?
Speaker 10 (45:30):
Oh, it was amazing just being there and experience everything.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
