Yeah it is. We have twenty plus and stock right now.
It's a newly redesigned SUV for GM, available in all

getting great mile per gallon and come very well equipped.
And with twenty plus in stock, we're ready to make
some deals and move them.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Of course, the twenty twenty five Silverado I was checking
that out before the show. Fifteen hundred crew Crab. Really
quite avehicle they are.

That's a great vehicle for your tony needs. Whether you
might have a four wheeler you need to move around,
maybe kayaks, a canoe, maybe got side by side. Maybe
you're doing weekend lawn project. You got to get some
dirt or wood chips. Great vehicle to be able to
load that stuff in and get your own, but also
great mile per galing with that vehicle as well. You
look at the new three leater diesel that Chevy offers
(01:22):
getting over thirty miles per gallon on the highway, and.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Of course rebates also available on the Silverado.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Now is a great time to buy. GM has great
rebates on the remaining twenty five is going to make
room for the twenty sixes which are going to start showing,
and you got rebates up to sixty five hundred dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Fox several a nine to seven Monday on Wednesday's Tuesday, Thursday,
Friday nine to six, Saturday nine two service hours eight
to five under the Friday Saturday oil changes eight am
to twelve noon. John Harkam, my fleet manager here at
foxularly thanks for joining us. You're welcome and hosting the
South Christian Salors again. He coached Danny Brown, our next
guest we had in freshman football at South Christian High School.
(02:17):
Danny will step in and join us right now. Danny,
of course, the varsity football coach six years already hard
to believe Danny had taken over the program. He was
defensive quarter before he took over for right now in
South Christian. Coming off a season last year eight and
five overall interesting year. Last year Danny had won four,
lost four and then beat an outstanding Catholic Center program
(02:38):
the week nine to get into the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yeah, it was it up, up and down season. We went,
you know, four and zero, and I think we kind
of felt like we had climbed the mountains top and
slowly got humbled. I wouldn't even say slowly, pretty quickly
lost for in a row, and we needed that last
one against a big rival of ours, who's Catholic Central
with obvisusally a really really good football program and got
(03:03):
that one to get in playoffs, and I think the
if you get get in playoffs, anything can happen. And
we caught a little momentum and we're able to get
to the semi finals and lost to a really good
Niles team.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Danny operates Sporting You outstanding apparel clothing store in sports
store in the south end of town, and well, you
guys are going great guns. You really expand. I remember
when you were at your previous location, you only had
what seven rate employees, and now what do you have Now?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
We have thirty five employees. So we just moved into
a new facility about twenty five thousand square foot. Just
really excited about that and the opportunity that's created. We
had two locations, we were able to bring it into one.
So it's really been good for our team to be
together and you know, we're having a good time.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
The personality of this team you describe as goofy, and
yet they seem to get down to business when it's time.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Yeah, it's I was really excited all off season to
get these guys. I mean, we had a lot of
young guys playing our team last year. You know when
we made that run price and faces people didn't think
and they did a really good job stepping up. So
I had seen some of their personality last year, and
you know, obviously get another year into it and the
juniors become seniors, and it was just really excited for
(04:21):
the first day of practice. Just every position group. Obviously
with with football, you got a oline position group, D
line linebacker, safety, corners, all that stuff. And it seems
like in every one of those groups there's a guy
that's just got a ton of personality, can be funny,
but yet they still know how to get down to business.
And you know in camp that kind of showed through.
We had a really good camp of you know, it
(04:42):
gets long and monotonous, and you know, outside of one
practice they were just they were grinding away. It was great.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
You open up as you usually do with your art.
Tribal Grand rappis Christian on Friday night, you're playing Friday.
Most of the team's playing on Thursday. What's your philosophy, Danny,
as far as playing Thursday or Friday on opening week.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
That, well, a lot of it's predicated because we don't
have a football football field, so there's just a lot
of games going on on Thursday, so you know, if
we want to have a home game, depending on what's available,
it's hard for us to get a home game. So
it just makes it easier that we don't have to,
you know, try to coordinate with other people, and typically
a lot of teams don't play on Friday, so we
(05:20):
kind of it makes that part a little easier.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Okay, let's see after granted, as Christian Boy, you've got
East Grand Rabinson, West Catholic and that's pretty too daunting opponents,
and yet you knocked them both off last year.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, you know, we had a good start to the season.
You're obviously playing some tough opponents there right in the beginning.
But it's it's good. I think it's good healthy competition.
I think if you if you want to be good
and successful in things, you got to challenge yourself. And
so I think it's a good opportunity for us to
see what we're made of as a team and as
a program, and and uh kind of gauge you know
(05:55):
who we are.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Danny, Let's talk a little bit about the strength of
this team right now. Again, you don't really know un
till they get out there on the field Friday night.
But what what position in general do you feel best
about and what position group? Maybe you said we still
got some question marks.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Well, as a coach, I don't know. You always have
question marks right the whole time. No, I'm excited about
our line. I think there's some good continuity there of
guys that you know, have played in some big games
last year. You know, I think we're pretty deep at
at running back, which in years past, for us to
have three running backs that we feel confident in is
(06:33):
is is a blessing. We haven't had that in years.
So excited about that group we're returning. You know, you're
gonna talk to him later. We're returning all state wide receivers.
So obviously we're excited about that, hoping he can duplicate
that again. And you know, and the big thing for
him is just stepping up into owen Burg, just stepping
up in a leadership role for us this year it's
(06:56):
been good. And then you know these other two of
these other guys played on our team last year and
we're playing in the semi finals. So just I'm excited
about a lot of things. But I think you know,
position groups aside, it's it's just really the guys love
for the game, and I think it's contagious. It's fun
to go to practice with these guys and there's so
(07:17):
many you have so many practice because compared to a
game and four, practice is the one game. So we
spend a lot of time before we actually get to perform,
and these guys make it fun every day.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
South Christian coach Danny Brown our guest tonight on the
Pigskin Party. We're at Fox Chevrolet on the Beltline in Caledonia.
Stop on out here, check out the great Equinox Hall
wheel drives in stock over twenty in stock here tonight
at Fox Chevrolet. Danny, we mentioned you've got the game
Friday coming up, and then then you've got the two
and then you get into the Oka Gold which is
(07:46):
a rough, rough conference.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Yeah, it's uh, excuse me, it's a it's a tough conference.
A lot of good teams, traditional programs that I've had
a ton of success and a lot of success lately,
so obviously that's not going to be an easy task.
We're gonna have to show up every week, prepare the
right way. But we're looking forward to the challenge. We're
(08:10):
excited just to compete against other teams that are that
are really good and in traditional powerhouses. That just it
adds a little bit of enthusiasm to practice and we'll
see where we can go from there.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
All right, Danny, final question, how are your numbers not
only with the varsity but your younger programs.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Yeah, so we have forty four kids on varsity, which
is really healthy for us. We got high twenties and
at the sophomore class, which is really good, around thirty
in freshmen. So a lot of excitement going around in
the football program, a lot of good numbers. The schools
growing which is obviously helping with that, and I think
a lot of kids are are playing in our youth program.
(08:50):
Our youth director Ryan Pielman has done a really good
job of bringing in former players to help coach, which
I think builds the excitement. The foundation that you know
Bob black Choir laid laid down years ago when he
started coaching nineteen eighty two. A lot of these guys,
guys that I played with, now have kids that are
playing and they're obviously passionate, had a great experience playing
(09:12):
South Christian football, so their kids are playing and there's
just there's a ton of excitement in our youth program,
which is it's just so fun to see and it's
exciting to be around those guys. So the numbers look
really good, and I think you know football is on
the up and up.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
You mentioned Bob Black Choir Mark Tamming, of course a
big influence in your career. Danny Brown, South Christian coach.
We're gonna take a break. We'll come back and talk
with hery Sir, of your players.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
All right, say sounds good, coach Danny Brown.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Well, we're along with the Pigs Again party here at
Fox Chevrolet in downtown Caledonia. We continue with the Fox
Melders Pigs Again Party, coming to you live from Fox
Chevrolet in Caledonia. Get ready each week for the this
week's high school action by tuning in to the LMCU

and Jason Hutton give detailed previews of games across the area,
as well as updated standings and their weekly rankings. Get

Previews show Thursdays normally Wednesdays. This week at six here
on ninety six won the game. We're visiting with the
South Christian Sailors. Enjoy visiting with head coach Danny Brown.
(10:20):
We're now visiting with some of the players. Caleb Winnikee
is a senior linebacker and wide receiver on this team.
You go both ways, Caleb, which way would you go
if coach that you can only play on one side
of the ball this week?
Speaker 6 (10:33):
I've coached that I could only play on one side
of the ball this week. I would definitely play linebacker
for sure, because I like to hit people and I've
just always had more of a defensive mind.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
I think you run track.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Also, the two hundred and four hundred for South Christians
track team in the spring talk about the difference between
track as an athlete and football because they're drastically different
many ways.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Yeah, I love track.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
I love that while you're competing individually, still definitely such
a team sport, whereas football is way more directly a
team sport. It takes everyone, whereas track you just are
kind of competing by yourself, but you still feel the
presence of the teammates cheering you on. So I just
love the different feel. But they're both obviously ultra competitive,
which is just fuels the fire in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Caleb, history your favorite class in school? What is it
appeals to you about history?
Speaker 6 (11:23):
I just really like learning about the past, and I
find it really interesting learning about how different societies interact
with each other and have changed over time.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
You're former pastor a big influence in your tell us
about him.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Yeah, Pastor Matthew. He's not our church anymore.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
We have a new pastor and he's great too, But yeah,
he was more in my life when I was younger,
and he just really influenced me on how to think
and process through things rather than just take them at
face value.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
You don't know where are you gonna go to school
next year, Caleb, but tell us about some of the
schools you're thinking about.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
Yeah, it depends why I play football right now is
definitely looking that way. So I have offers just from
SCSU and Tiffin, So those are two who I'm considering.
I really like both of them.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
But yeah, you mentioned the influence of your previous pastor
that's something you might like to look into down the
road for yourself.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
Yep, it is for sure.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
I plan again undergraduate in business management or communications, but
then eventually go on to become a bastard myself.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
You know. We ask every player that appears on this
show to think long and hard about their time through
school and pick out their favorite teacher from any level elementary,
middle school, and high school. Caleb Winnikee, who is your
all time favorite teacher and why.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
I chose my I've had her every year so far
in high school? Is my English teacher, missus Potts. She
is just the most energetic teacher and just always has
a smile on her face and is always just ready
to go and makes reading fun.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
We ask the players what their night before the game
favorite meal is, and I believe Caleb, this is the
first one we've ever had. Put down salmon. Where did
that come from?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
I don't know. I just really like salmon. I like
a lot of fish.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
It's healthy for you, for sure. You get you get
a lot about what about uh after the game?
Speaker 7 (13:14):
What?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
What's your favorite postgame meal?
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Postgame meal? I'm gonna have to go.
Speaker 6 (13:18):
Well, we get pizza after everyonin so that is definitely
my favorite post game meal because.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
It just Coach Brown doesn't feed you if you lose, No,
he doesn't. That's a good incentive though, right there. And
speaking of pizza, the good folks at Foxhaverly have gotten
you pizza over here, so, uh, I know you've been
enjoined some, Caleb, there's still some left. I think they
brought about eight pizzas from your cello's over here. But
best of luck to you down the road, and we
(13:43):
appreciate you stopping by before you go though, Caleb, and
I have you mentioned something about our your next guest,
Owen Burgess, So who's uh all state receivers coach mentioned
last year, But tell us a little bit about Owen
as a person, not as a player.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
I've known Owen my close to my whole life. I've
played basketball with him since I can remember, I think
from first grade up until my freshman year when I
stopped playing. But yeah, he's just been a great teammate
my whole life, A really close friend for sure, just
the guy that is always there for you, ultra competitor,
(14:22):
loves to win, but he definitely loves the people around him,
and I admire him for that for.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Sure, well said, Well said, sir, thank you. Cale. He's
passed it over to Owenberg's senior wide receiver and free
safety on this team, also plays basketball for the Sailors
as well. I'm gonna ask you a tough question. If
God appeared before you this year and said you can
play football or basketball this year your senior year here,
but only one, which would you choose? I know, Coach
(14:49):
Brown's looking over at you right there.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
I would definitely say football. But I mean back in
the day, I would definitely say basketball. But God had
different plans and football became might be a favora favorite sport.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Now, all right, who is your all time favorite teacher
and what level of school one?
Speaker 7 (15:05):
Uh So, my junior year I had mister Vanuvil. He's
a guy that you know, always walks in with us
mile on his face. He's definitely one of the kindest
guys I've ever met, and he's someone who always helped me.
If I were a homeworker and struggling with something.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
You have received some offers to play collegiate football. Tell
us about who's offered to you and not Tony who
you're gonna choose, But how are you going to eventually
make that decision? Where are you gonna go?
Speaker 7 (15:29):
Yeah, so I'm extremely bussed to receive offers from Hope
and Calvin. Those are definitely two schools that I'm definitely
looking into. Another school that maybe if you an offer
or not doesn't matter. Grand Valley's definitely one that sounds
top of my list, but it's wherever God leads me.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Coach Copeland was a big influence in your life. Tell
us about Coach Coplan.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
Yeah, so, Coach Coplan's our receivers coach, and I mean
ever since I was a freshman, as soon as I
had my first conversation, I knew that he was going
to have a big influence in my life. And he's
always someone after a bad practice or if something at
home is going rough, he's always a guy I can
talk to.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Boy. I tell you what we talked with Coach Brown
a little bit about that very unusual season last year.
I mean, eight and five is a good year for
most programs, but he won four, then lost four, and
then had to beat Catholic Tier to get in the playoffs.
And you went all the way to the state summer. Yeah,
wacky year, wasn't it, Kenny?
Speaker 5 (16:19):
For sure?
Speaker 7 (16:20):
You know you're on an ultra high. You went four
four and oh it's it's an unbelievable feeling. But then,
you know, we just had that gauntlet of the last
four games, and you know, stuff happens. We lost the
next four, but you know, we just had like Coach
Brown said one time, you just got to get that
ball rolling down the hill, and that's what happened when
we hit playoffs.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
You're a country music fan.
Speaker 7 (16:39):
You know, I like to listen to a lot of genres,
but Morgan wall in country is definitely one of my favorites.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
All right, good, all right? What about what did you
do this summer to help get ready for the football season.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
Definitely hitting the field with my quarterback Austin Berger, just
saying hitting the waits for sure, and just being staying
consistent there.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
All right, to finish this sentence for me on this
South Christian season will be a success if.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
If we can come together as a team and love
each other every day.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Oh great answer. All right, Owen, thanks for joining us.
Best of luck to you not only this year but
down the road. Okay, thank you all right, We'll take
a break, come back with more of the Pigskin Party
from Fox Chevallet in Caledonia. We continue with the Fox
Motors Pigskin Party. Opening week of high school football across
West Michigan. Games Thursday night primarily, but we've got a
(17:33):
number of them on Friday night as well, including our
guest tonight, the South Christian Sitiers. They're playing Friday against
Grant Rapids Christian for their opening right now. Enjoyed visiting
with a couple of sailors just a moment ago, and
now Austin Burgess joins us right now. He is a
junior quarterback and not related necessarily to Owen Bridges who
(17:54):
we just visited with. He's a junior quarterback. Let's talk
a little bit about your summer Austin and how you
prepared for the twenty five season this summer.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
Yeah, so this was a big off season for me.
You know, I've there's countless times where I've been in
the field with Owen Burgess more, but it's just really
getting to the field. We try to make a schedule,
try to be consistent what we do. I mean weight
room too. The goal is to put on ten pounds.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
I mean it's had to.
Speaker 8 (18:23):
Get bigger everything we could do. Yeah, and that it
was just more time.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
How many people assume that you're brothers or at they're
at least cousins with Owen.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
Right, there hasn't been a place that we go together
that we don't get the question.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
And I continue that tonight here as well. You're a quarterback,
So I'm gonna ask you what right now individually in
your game, Austin, what would you consider your biggest strength
as a quarterback and what area do you need the
most working?
Speaker 8 (18:50):
Yeah, I said my biggest strength as far as on
the field wise goes. I feel like I'm very fit
for the job. You know, it's not an easy job,
but I wanted this, I asked for it. Leadership wise,
I feel like I really excel it. I feel like
we bring the team together seeing the field, well, something
(19:10):
needs to grow on by something I've been well in.
And this also I do like to run the ball too.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
And yeah, your eighth grade basketball coach, what's a big
influence your life? Tell us about him?
Speaker 8 (19:22):
Yeah, he was really the one that kind of like
set me into like what it means to win. And
he had a phrase the most important characteristic of athletes
a burning desire to win. If you have a burning
desire to win, you can as you can go as
far as you want.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Mister skapele am I saying it right correct, Yep, it's fantastic.
But as far as your all time favorite teacher, you
go back to middle school, they're also tell us about that.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
Yeah, mister Stevers, he was six', eight biggest dude in the,
school and everybody else is so scared of, him big scary.
Guy but you, know really he's just we connected. Well
he loves, SPORTS i love. Sports great teacher and he
just connected with really, Well.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Austin what are the seniors Like owen who was on
here before In, Caleb but what do they show you
in terms of leadership that you're going to have to
show next year as a.
Speaker 8 (20:12):
Senior, yeah they've showed that leadership and them being able
to lead the team is the bottom line of what
we want to do to. WIN i, mean if they
can't be, leaders it's kind of hard for us underclassmen
to step up like. THAT i think they've both done
a really good job of. THAT i Think owen And
caleb are both high leaders of the team and it
(20:34):
just it brings a sense of peace when they are
able to lead encourage us that kind of.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Stuff austin doesn't. Know, yeah where he's going to, again
just a. Juniors a lot of time to decide. That
but you'd like to take business wherever you end up
going to? School what do you think about doing with that?
Degree do if you think down the, road if you
were using that business, degree what would you see yourself?
Speaker 8 (20:50):
Doing you, know it's a great. Question not something that
looked into a. Lot my dad works in surveying. Business
but right NOW i curn'tently tell you WHAT i want
to do with.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Business you would like to stick around, home close to
home at least when you go to. School family obviously
important to. You does what? Again you like tacos before
the night before a? Game tell us about.
Speaker 8 (21:16):
That, yeah my dad loves to make. Dinner he's always
asked us what we, want and if there's ever an,
OPTION i get a, Pick i'm gonna choose chicken or shrimp.
TACOS i like to know me mix.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Some but, Yeah i'm gonna ask you WHAT i ask
for your teammate just a little while. Ago we're gonna
pass it over here to cash it in just a.
Second but tell us About cash and one of the
senior players that you've looked up to and learned. From
what did you take from him in terms of what
he showed you how an upperclassman handles.
Speaker 8 (21:43):
Himself you, Know, Cash AND i, mean he's an interesting.
Dude he's if you see, him he's gonna shout your name,
Out he's gonna say hi to. You he's just one
that football is just is meant to have. Joy you,
Know he's always he's probably always flying around the. Field
he's having. Fun and SO i mean as a, quarterback
he's a middle. Linebacker me looking across from, it just
(22:06):
it kind of brings joy to, myself like ready to,
compete and he was trying to make me.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Better and, yeah all, right, well thank you so, Much.
Austin best of luck to you this year and. Beyond
let's pass the microphone over To cash and right now

(22:52):
what they're expected to do as a, senior you, know
especially for the.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
Underclassmen, yeah as a, senior we want to lead the
underclassman and just have the best year that we, can
and then we want to make our entire team better
play the best we can so that even next year
after we, graduate we leave on a legacy where we

a big impact in my, life shaping me and like
(23:39):
bringing me some of my passion for football and also
shaping me to be a better person off the field as.

my strongest. Subject so it's always brought me joy And
i've set a passion for.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
It probably why you're looking at majoring in? Finance finance
when you're going into, college, right, yeah exactly what would
you like to do with that? Degree do you think maybe.
Speaker 9 (24:35):
Probably AFTER i, graduate become like a financial advisor or
do something with That?
Speaker 2 (24:42):

Tide you're looking at schools down South Bois, Alabama, Tennessee,
Ole Miss. Georgia you have no problem being away from.
Home it sounds, Like yeah for.
Speaker 9 (24:55):
SURE i feel like again that's part of that's influence
by my older brother who's down.

for your cash and when you eventually choose what school
to go, to what give us a couple of things
that you say that we'll finally. Decided you know what
areas where you really emphasize saying this is Why i'm
going to. Teach you choose that, School yeah for.

the schools AND i just want to see like the
environment that the school has and what like the life
there would.

teaches and he's just one of those guys that you
feel like you can talk to about.

Anything, well obviously you're doing a lot right with The
sailors program right, Now, Cashing but where do you have
to get better as a football player?
