Speaker 1 (00:00):
On one oh seven m us.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
I'm Jason Hutting alongside ten time Kendern, who cares about
the records which say these teams have only combined for
one win so far this season, but both teams are
really much better than that. Visiting Bucks have been really
bit by the injury bug, losing superstar running back Andrew
Williamson to a season ending knee injury in the scrimmage,
and then a week two the last quarterback, Easton Hints,
who did return last week. Time. Why should Grant Haven
(00:22):
feel good heading into this game.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Well, j because they have a bunch of great young athletes.
You mentioned Williamson and that was just a devastating blow
for them. Thirteen hundred yards last year as a sophomore.
There's so much buzz coming into the season, and then
he has that knee injury.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Just a shame in the scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
But I tell you what, Easton Hints is something special
at quarterback, dual threat, and he's just one of a
bunch of great juniors. They got kV Cornstra playing running
back now, Amani Frierson is a dangerous wide receiver, Luke Ratkey,
Sam Conda all juniors, and then they have the four
(00:59):
seniors up so they can score some points and we'll
see if they unleash their athletes here tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, that storyline of kV Cornsh moving to running back
in place of Williamson will be one we'll be following
throughout the night for surep West Ottawa has been about
as unlucky as you can get, following in Week one
by three points to Grand Ledge with some really bad
bounces and then lost on a miracle that should have
never happened in Week two at Zealand West. Why are
the Panthers still holding their heads high.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Because of Pat Collins coach. Team just doesn't quit and
we knew that at Montague. We saw that seventeen years
Pat Collins was at Montau three state championships, including their
final one in twenty twenty, and then he comes over here.
This is fifty year now at West Ottawa hasn't obviously
had the same level of success, but we know what
a motivator he is and he believes this team is
(01:48):
more talented jay than that team that made the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Here two years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
He's got a dynamic quarterback in a junior abel and Aya,
but they really need to get their running game going there.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
They're rushing yards way down so far.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I think if they can run the ball, I like
their chances to break in and get a win Tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:07):

as mcc enters with a two and two record and
(02:46):
OV comes in at one in three. Both teams are
coming off throlling victories in Week four. Last week, mcc
rallied for a twenty seven to twenty six road victory
over Benton Harbor senior Timmy Rayling continued his big season
with two hundred and twenty four rushing yards and four touchdowns,
the last one a six yard run with thirty nine
seconds left to essentially win it. The hard nosed Railing
(03:08):
has carried the load for the Crusaders this season, rushing
for six hundred and seventy four yards and ten touchdowns
in three games. One of MCC's contests was a forfeit.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Win in Week three.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Also last week, Orchardviewe held on for a twenty six
to twenty two home win over Mannistee in Westmshion Conference
Lakes Division action. Speedy sophomore Kamari Reese, starting at quarterback
for injured Peyton Babbitt, erupted for two hundred and seventy
rushing yards and a pair of tds. On the season,
Reese has rushed for four hundred and.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Fifty five yards and five touchdowns.

Thanks Scott Still to come on the Bowen Heating and
Cooping pregam Show. We're gonna take a look at some
other games from around the Lake Shore on this week
five edition of the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the
Week on one oh seven, m Us the Moose. This
is the Boone Heating and Cooing pregame Show, live from
the beautiful West ott with stadium wore. Tonight, the Panthers
(04:30):
celebrate homecoming with Graham Haven in town for an Okay
red Tilt Tom Kedro. Let's take a look at some
of the other games going on around the Lake Shore tonight. Boy,
the ok Black has got some really good ones. Ok Green,
Miskegan at four Still's Northern both Teams two and two,
Mona Shores at Byron Center, Moner Shorts three and one,
Byron Center one and three. But I'll tell you what
I really like this Miskegan Forces Northern game is a
really good game. Last year a Hackley.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, I'm Askegan better watch out because if they were
looking ahead to Mona shors So they could be in trouble.
But you know, we saw how good Lamar Bradford was
at quarterback Againstckford. But how about last week Keishawn Drummer
joins the party. Two hundred and ninety nine rushing yards,
three touchdowns against Byron Center.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Now, if they get one of these edge.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Guys involved, Jay like our Quez Petty, maybe Jamir Jefferson,
watch out.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Also in the Green Reeese Puffer is at Housman Field
to play Union. It's the RedHawks homecoming Okay White West
Catholic at spring Lake. In the Okay Silver Comestack Parks
at Fruitport, going to the West Michigan Conference. Oakridge is
at Fremont, Luddington's at Montague, Whitehall's at Man of Stee.
We just heard from Scott the Camp. He's at the
orchard View mskiin CALLC Central game. Mason County Central's at Ravenna,
(05:38):
North Mischigan's at Heart and Hysperia is at Shelby. What
do you think about that North Miscegan Heart matchup time.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Well, what do you think about the Rivers division of
the West Michigan Conference, Jay, kind of a if Heart's
able to get this win, that could throw that division
into chaos, especially with North Muskegan big game coming up.
Week seven, they visit Ravanna, but that this game tonight,
it's the offense in North Muskegan again, the defense of
Heart should be a good matchup.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
And eight player tonight bear Lake at Holton. To look
at the records there, bear Lake three and one hold
knowing four. I think that'll be a toss up game though,
when you look at strength to schedule and the Mischigan
Heights is at Marcellis still to come. On the Bow
and Heating and Cooling pregame show, Tom Kenner goes one
on one with Grand Haven head coach Andrew Beadenbnder. That's
when we returned. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game
of the Week. One oh seven m us the Moose.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
We are back here in the coaches corner with third
year Grand Haven coach Andrew beaden Bender and coach it's
been kind of a rough start to the year. A
big win to open things over Stevensville Lake Shore. Then
three losses in a row. That last one must really sting,
especially since you were up on Jennison at halftimes.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
You know, I think it's hard as a high school
coach and any type of football team, you're gonna fights didversity,
and we've had a lot with some injuries and some
unfreseen circumstances.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
We've had, you know, some bounces not going away.
Speaker 7 (06:50):
But I think that's part of life, and I think
it's been a learning lesson for these guys. And we're
not gonna keep We're not gonna quit it all. We're
gonna keep grinding. And I think that's kind of mantrug
going into this week that we still have our next
game ahead of us rivalry games, so there's still a
lot of stake, there's still everything we want.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Playoffs are still out there if we can kind.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
Of take your businesses next weeks, so kind of try
to put our head down, trying to lizard not not
listen to the outside noise and just make sure we
can take care of the guys inside.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
These walls, all right.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Just quickly on those injuries, I know one of them
with Andrew Williamson rushed over thirteen hundred yards a year ago.
A lot of buzz about him coming into the year.
And I know you're junior quarterback. Easton hints I've had
some injuries. Tell us about those injuries and like kind
of how it affects the team as a whole.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah, it's hard.
Speaker 7 (07:29):
I think he's a coaching staff and as a team
when you're kind of counting on the guy to come
back who had such a big year last year, and
then all of a sudden, right before Week one, you
find out he's gonna be gone you don't know how long,
and then you find out for the rest of the year.
That's a lot mentally on these kids, and they understand
you the type of player he is, so trying to
not necessarily.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
Replace that void, but fill that void with a lot
of other pieces.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
And we got a lot of young skill guys who
have a lot of talent to do that. But it
took a little while to get going. Kad kurrenztro these
last two weeks that was really stepped up. He's got
worth three hundred yards these last two weeks rushing, and
again he's not Andrew, but he's got that same type
of speed, same type of breakaway electric you know, playmaking ability.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
So that's been nice to find.
Speaker 7 (08:02):
And then again you have we have every quarterback week two,
right before halftime he goes out with the concussion. These
out in the next week. It's kind of getting hard
to get there's some rhythm going. So that's the goal
is this week. I feel like we're finally, you know,
a full week of practice with everyone we need, and
we'll fully get practice, you know, preparing for things. We're
feeling that we can really get these things rolling offensively
where I think we've had some things going, We've kind
of kicked ourselves in the foot a little bit with
some listening, So I think now it's time for us
(08:24):
to really hit our stride.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
I know you played offensive line at Grand Valley and
you know how important that is to a football game.
Do you feel like this game Friday night against West
Ottawa will be one or lost at the line of scrimmage?
Speaker 5 (08:36):
I think definitely. I think that's the spot where we are,
you know, really thrived this year. We've got all those
guys back.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
Can you have four before returning starters and one Kalkanito
Junior has really done a great job. I think in
the Okay Reddit it's going to come down to who
controls line scrimmage.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
We saw that last week. It was the battle of the.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
Two offensive lines and we both had over at almost
two n of yards rushing and it's kind of who
can kind of punch it in the end. Though.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
I think that's the one thing we're frustrated with.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
Last week we had two opportunities inside the five yard line,
out the fields are not getting any points at all.
So this week really emphasis of kind of finishing those drives.
But definitely, I mean, I've seen that coach at West Ottawa.
I know that I know what Pat's trying to do.
He's trying to, you know, run the ball and still
take advantage in the perimeter game, and we're trying to
do the exact same things. So if we can control
the line of scrimmage, I think we've got a good shot.
But it's all comes down those kids and how their
(09:17):
mindset is going on Friday.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Like you mentioned, you served two years as associate head
coach with Pat Collins at West Ottawa before coming over
here a couple of years ago. You're one and one
against them, a nice win last year twenty six fourteen.
I guess what needs to happen this Friday night for
you to get another win and to just get back
in the win column.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
Yeah, I think it's it's what both teams kind of
facing some university We both I think had some a
lot of excitement going in the year, and you know,
they had some really.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Close losses to some very good teams, kind of similar
with us.
Speaker 7 (09:45):
So who can fight face the adversity, who can also
drown out that outside noise and deal with distractions.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
They had their homecoming this week, we.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
Had our last week, and I think there's some times
some guys would like to maybe have some of those
decisions they make during during the week kind of to
get that back. But I think the big part for
us again is just we have to clear play clean football.
We've had a lot of penalties just kind of some
self inflicted wounds, so we've had a lot of turnovers
and key situations. If we can do that, I think
we can play ground heaving football and not beat ourselves
and we got a good chance against anybody, But that
(10:12):
has not been the case. That Week one, we had
played a very complete game special teams, offense, defense, no turnovers.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
The last couple of weeks has kind of been like
a when are we gonna you know, give them the
game as opposed to us go and take it.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
And lastly, coach, you play in the okay red Everyone
knows how difficult that is week in week out. I mean,
you can have a big improvement and still end up
with maybe a similar record than you had the year before.
I guess how do you handle that mentally as a
coach and with your team? You know, maybe the results
aren't there in terms of wins and losses, but how
do you keep progressing as a program.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
It's hard. I think That's why I've got a couple
of great hairs in my beard right now. That's that's
That's the part of it though.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
I think when I took this job, I knew what
I was getting myself into, and I think as an
ultimate competitor, you want to go against the best teams
and that can be hard. From it again, outside perspective
of hey why are we not you know winning on
the field. Well, again, in games like this and like.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Last week, it's a one or two plays that can change.
Speaker 7 (11:02):
It between you know, twenty three to ten victory for
us or twenty three ten victory for them. So again,
I think that that makes us for coaches, it makes.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Exciting that there is no off week. We have to
be dialed in, the players have to be dialed in, and.
Speaker 7 (11:12):
That can be frustrating sometimes as a coach when you're
dealing with sixteen seventeen year old when they've got a
lot of other things going on in their lives, but
really just kind of coaching our tails off and getting
everything becount of these players, and that's what makes it fun.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
All right, Well, good luck on Friday night.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Thank you, thanks, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Go Bucks.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
It's Keys to Victory. This is the LM two Lakes
short Game of the week.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
No.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
One oh seven have us the movies?
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Gredard seventy eight days ago, Grand Haven beat West Ottawa
Jean rothy Field twenty six fourteen in week three at
the high school football season. That was the Okay red opener.
They turn around tonight and we'll meet in twenty twenty five.
The Bucks one and three, the Panthers zeroing four each
looking for the first ok Red win. Jason Hutting along
with Tom Kendra Tom, how about keys to the victory tonight?
Speaker 1 (12:07):
For each team.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah, I got starting off with a visiting team Grand Haven.
They come in one in three. They won that first game,
then three straight losses. But I think the key to
the key to the game for Grand Haven is they
need to play a cleaner game, fewer penalties and no turnovers.
If they're able to do that, I think with their
experience up front, they should be able to possess the
ball a little bit and that's really a key.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
You look at their game last week.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
They had a lot of chances to score against Jennison,
some penalties and mistakes and they got in the red zone.
So I think if they can play a cleaner game,
that's the key for them.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, I agree. I think they need to get speed
in's based too, right. I mean they have guys that
can really really fly. I mean kV Chrestus as fast
as as by anybody in the state. He was seventh
last year as a sophomore in the hundred meter dash
the D one state finals. He can really fly, a
mighty Friarson can go, Sam Conda. I mean, they got
some guys that can run. How about key for West Ottawa?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
And I think for West Ottawa, you know they're really
young upfront. They don't have any senior starters on the
offensive line. Meanwhile, Grand Haven is really young in their
skill positions. So but West Outaw has not been able
to run the ball effectively this year.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
I think that's the key for them tonight.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
They can't just rely on able Anaya and just be
one dimensional. They need to be able to run the
ball effectively. And I think if they're able to do that,
that'll make their passing game much more effective. So I
think they're going to try to run the ball. Maybe
they can't do it very well against the Grandvilles and
the Hudson Vills of the world, but they feel like
tonight that they should be able to move the ball
(13:38):
on the ground.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeah, I think they need to finish their eyes and
we can take a look at Week one against Grand
Ledge and sure, the last play of the first half,
Grand Ledge fumbled the football into the end zone and
offensive lineman recovered it. I don't know those specific high
school rules. If that's not illegal, it certainly should be.
But if West Auta would finished to drive earlier in
the half where they were inside the five yard line
first and goal, they have turning it overround down same
thing as the Zeald West game. I mean, second to
(14:01):
last play of the game is Zeland West player clearly
catches the ball inbounds with his knee on the ground.
He got up around the bounds. They stopped the clock.
They lost on hail Mary, but they had the ball
first to goal in the one in that game ended
up turning the ball over on down. So I think
West Ottawa needs to finish drives when you talk about
key for them tonight here on homecoming at West Ottawa
Stadium and Tom we talk about injuries, and injuries are
(14:22):
just piling up, especially when you look at the Okay Red.
No Brandon Daniels probably to night for Rockford, No Jade
and Terry for Grandville. But Elijah Reynolds comes back tonight.
We think he's gonna play. He's been out since week two.
Early in that game against Zeeland West. He's the linebacker
committed to CMU. I mean not only because he's a
great player, but just emotionally. That's got to give a
(14:44):
lift to this team.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Oh, no question about it. You made a good point.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
You know, both of these teams playing in the Okay Red,
there's a small margin for error if they have injuries.
We mentioned Grand Havin with Andrew Williamson. They're supposedly out.
Carson Hardy, one of their leaders up is supposed to
miss tonight.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
But you have a few injuries.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
And then, like you said, when these teams have opportunities,
especially against the big boys in the Oka Red, the Granville's,
the Rockfords, if these guys are gonna pull an upset,
they need to convert every opportunity they get. And so
far this year, both of these teams have had problems
scoring touchdowns in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
That'll be a factor tonight. The West Ottawa Marching Band
is on the field playing the Panther fight song. As
West Ottawa has come screaming out of the tunnel and
onto the field, Grand Haven has done the same. From
the fire sideline. We're just about set for tonight's national anthem.
We're gonna step aside. We'll take a break. We'll come
back with the opening kickoff of tonight's game, the Oka
(15:43):
Red rivalry showdown between Grand Haven and West Ottawa. This
has been the bowen heating and cooling pre game show.
We'll be back with the kickoff right after this. On
one oh seven m us the moops. It's the forty
second all time meeting between Grand Haven and West Ottawa.
(16:07):
The Buccaneers lead the series twenty three to eighteen. Jason
Hutton and Tom Kendra live from West Ottawa Stadium, just
about set for kickoff. The head coaches in this game
Andrew Bidenbender in his third season as head coach of
Grand Haven and you know, Tom, he spent a couple
of years here as an assistant coach under Pat Collins
(16:28):
when he first took over at West Odawa, so he
knows a lot about this program and this head coach
he's gonna face.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Yeah, there's a lot of similarities, both teams trying to
break through in the conference. But yeah, when Pat Collins
left Montague in twenty twenty, the first guy he brought
in to help him out was Andrew Beidenbender, who was
working with the lineman at West Ottawa and then he
got the opportunity to come up here a couple of
years ago. So that's a real intriguing matchup. You know,
(16:55):
both of these teams went at the start of the
season when they look at their schedule, they're like, well,
you know, I don't know if we can beat Hudsonville.
I don't know if we can beat Rockford, but they
look at the game. Grand Haven says we can beat
West Ottawa, and West Ottawa says we can beat Grand Haven. Well,
only one team can win, right, So I think, you know,
I think they're both out here thinking this is a
must win game, and that's gonna make it fun.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Pat Collins, the head coach at West Ottawa in his
fifth season, of course, won three state championships as the
head coach at Montague coming over here to West Ottawa
his wife's alma mater. Yeah, he's a heck of a
head coach. I mean, you know him probably better than
I do, but I've got to know him for the
last twelve years or so, love him as a person.
(17:36):
But I think he's a really good football coach. And
West Ouda is going to be prepared.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
And he actually Pat Collins played college football down here
at Hope College and then he was an assistant coach
here at West Ottawa for a few years before going
back to Montague. So he and like you said, his
wife went to a school here, so there are a
lot of connections.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
And then they got this.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
We didn't even mention this incredible facility they have here now,
so things are in place. They just like he said,
we just need to start winning a few games.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
So we're just about set for kickoff, beautiful night. It
is sixty nine degrees at kickoff. It's our third straight
Friday where we've had a high temperature reach at least
eighty degrees, but we've cooled down to sixty nine here
at kickoff, very very light breeze, almost no breeze at
all as the American flag is motionless on the north
end of the field. So grand Haven has won the toss.
(18:25):
The Buccaneers have elected to receive. You don't see that
often outside of Grandville, but the Bucks will get the
ball first. Grand Haven in the visiting white jerseys, blue pants,
blue helmets with the yellow numbers and yellow stripe. West
Ottawa in their home black jerseys with the red stripe
on the shoulder. That's a homecoming exclusive. No longer is
red and accent color for West Douta, but it used
(18:46):
to be thirty plus years ago, so they have the
red stripe for homecoming, white pants, black helmet and the
kick is deep. Griffin Dodd kicks off for West Doudawa,
it bounces and will be picked up by Kav Cornstra
at his own three. He's going to get it back
to about the fifteen yard line before he is taken
out of bounds. So we'll see Easton Hints, the junior
signal caller number nine at quarterback for Grand Haven. He
(19:09):
is a lefty and he is a dual threat. kV Kornstrow,
the junior number twelve who returned that opening kick. He
will be the running back. They have not had Andrew
Williamson all season long. Hurt his knee in the scrimmage.
He was out for the coin toss on crutches with
a brace on his knee. So no Andrew Willimson, which
is a huge loss. We'll see Logan Jorgensen, the sophomore,
(19:31):
start at the slot, number fourteen, number one junior Almani
Friarson and number two Sam Conda, both juniors, will start
at wide receivers. So on first down, the Bucks will
go shotgun and they're gonna give it to cornstill running left.
Not much there, he's bottled up and driven back. Give
him maybe a half a yard on that carry. We
(19:52):
look at that offensive line for Grand Haven and they'll
go with sixty seven senior Louis Vargo at left tackle.
At left guard will be number sixty two Calvin Brunsting
at junior. He's filling in for the injured Carson Hardy,
the Grand Valley committ who's out with the concussion tonight.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Senior center number sixty three is Camden Meeker.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Junior right guard is Colin kanittl and right tackle is
senior number fifty five Jonah Bremer, second and nine. For
hints in the gun, he's back to pass with time,
trying to get it out to Jorgensen. The pass is incomplete,
but we have a flag down on the field, so
we'll have to check that. Usually that's going to go
against the defense when it's thrown in the secondary. Just
(20:35):
look at that West Ottawa defense. They start number fifty
six Isaiah Rodriguez at one tackle and number fifty three
Alexander Carrier at the other. We got a holding penalty
on West Ottawa. It's a ten yard penalty and it'll
be a first down then move it out to the
twenty six yard line. The defensive ends will be number six.
(21:00):
Elijah Reynolds is back in there tonight, playing for westot
Oily he's not on the field right now, so it
is ten junior Christian DeWitt and senior number twenty Griffin Dodd.
We do expect to see Reynolds in this game, first
and ten of the twenty six. And we got another
penalty flag here before grand Haven can snap this one.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
We're gonna get a motion penalty that time, Jay.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
So grand Haven'll back up five more yards. So DeWitt
and Dobb are the ends. The linebackers are number seven
senior CJ. Trailer, sophomore number eleven Ryan Montgomery, and junior
number forty three Josiah Quaar. The corners our number eight
senior Quinton Edwards, number twenty one senior counter Volkt. The
(21:41):
safeties quarterback number one junior Abel and Ayah and number
nineteen senior Chris Bronkhorst. So after the five yard penalty,
it's first in fifteen from the twenty one hint stopping
it off to corns during the left right flat and
Kornsher gets the five yards back before CJ. Trailer makes
the tackle. In fact, they're going to give him six
to the twenty seven and starting lineups tonight brought to
(22:01):
you by Lasco Services when you need us will be there,
Lasco Services with tonight's starting lineups.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Yeah, you mentioned Jake kb Cornster when he gets out
in the open. That's what they tried to do there,
just the quick little pass, try to get him around
the edge.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
They got a five yard gain.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
But you know, big plays in this game, which athletes
are gonna get out in the open, I think that
may determine who wins.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
So it'll be second down and nine, number two. Caleb
Montgomery is at safety in place of Chris Broncourse, and
they're gonna pitch it to Cornster going left. He's hit,
gets away from the first man of the backfield. Now
he gets back, gets a couple of yards out to
the twenty nine before he's hit hard. Heck of a
job by Cornstra there because it looked like he was
gonna lose yards, but he gets maybe two.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yeah, in that time.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Another that's like Sam Conda, the junior wide out limped
off the field for Grand Haven. Hopefully he'll be back
in the game. But yet, but you're right, that was
a broken play that he should have had him in
the backfield.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Cornsterer made something out of nothing. But here it is
a third long.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
So it's Conda limps off. We see number four, number
four senior Colin Munford, who checks in receiver. He's an
excellent receiver. He's been playing corner and doing a nice
job for Andrew bid Mender and the Bucks this year.
On third and seven, Hints throws it out to Jorgenson,
complete it to thirty two. Jorgensen reaches and I think
he's got a first down, driven out of bounds at
a thirty seven by Connor Vaughch, but not before he
(23:25):
gets eight yards and moves the sticks.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Yeah, nice job that time getting it out in space.
We talked about that and letting and then letting the
receiver at that time. It's a sophomore Lennon Jorgensen do
just enough to get the first down and move the sticks.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
That is one difference we'll see in these two teams.
Grant Haven likes to go with the short, quick passing game.
West Ottaway is not afraid to throw it deep. So
Friarson split wide to the right, Jorgenson in the slot left,
Munford split out wide left. Jorgenson goes in motion and
they're gonna fake the give and run option to the
laft Hints pitches to Jorgenson who's over the forty. Jorgenson
(24:03):
to the open field at midfield, Jorgenson to the forty
and all the way down to the thirty one yard line.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Abel and Iyah.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
This safety saves the touchdown, but it's thirty two yards
on the option Grant Haven Tom is really good in
that option play.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Jason, I have no idea how Easton Hints got that
ball to Jorgensen. Yeah, I couldn't see who it was.
The defensive end there number ten and Christian de Witt.
I believe it was draped all over Easton Hints and
it was actually a forward pass. It looked like a
forward pitch to Jorgensen, but a great speed for the sophomore.
And while the Bucks and now are on the move here.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Watching film this week, I really like Hints in that option.
He holds it just long enough to make the defender commit.
Usually they run it with Cornstraw. That time it was
with the sophomore Lennon Jorgensen, Jorgenson in motion again here
on first down from the thirty and they give it
to Cornsher this time over left tackle. Just not much there.
West Odawa has them CJ trailer the first one there.
It's a game of a yard It's interesting. TK West
(24:59):
Oddawa I thought defended the run really well against the
power TEA teams Zealand West and Grandville. They struggled last
week when they took on Hudsonville. They had trouble with
Onen Haarsma. A lot of people are.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Gonna but I think the West Otawa has the potentially
be a really good run defense. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I mean so far they look pretty stout up front.
Eastern Hints is a dual threat and brings a lot
of challenges, so yeah, we'll see here. Now they're getting
down in the red zone, kind of shortening the field
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Grand Haven's junior h back Luke Radkey is in the
slot to the right. Hints wants to throw this screen.
He's got it to Friarson a twenty five Friars in
the middle of the field at twenty spins his way
inside the fifteen and all the way down to the
fourteen yard line.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Fifteen yards on the bubble screen.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Caleb Montgomery the tackle for West Ottawa, but the Bucks
are moving it.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Yeah, great play call that time by Matt Naber, the
offensive coordinator for Grand Haven. You know, they had a
question in the offseason who was going to be the quarterback?
Is it going to be the junior Easton Hints because
they also have read Barry. You remember his brother Luke
Barry was the quarterback. He's got great size, six five
sixty six. He's the JV quarterback.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
They really like what Easton Hints can do and he's
doing it so far.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
This drive so first and ten of the fourteen, the
eighth play of this Grand Haven drive to start the game,
and they're gonna give it to Corns to running lap.
But again CJ. Trailer has made a bunch of plays
made another one got him at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
It'll be no gain, Yeah right now, Jay, not a
lot of room for Grand Haven to run between the tackles.
Good job by the West Ottawa up front, Caleb Morley,
Alexander Carrier in there, and then the two ends Christian
DeWitt and Griffin Dobb doing a good job in the
(26:45):
interior of the line. Most of the games so far
have been on the edges.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
His drives already lasted over five minutes. We're down to
six forty six to play opening quarter. Grandaven with the
opening kick and they've driven it from their own fifteen
to the west out of a fourteen, Hints back to
throwing second hand.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
He's going to the end Z.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
I'm looking for Frarson, but it's overthrown incomplete.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
It'll be third down and long for the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Yeah, that time they went to him in the end zone.
We saw them get the ball to Frarson in different ways.
He's one of those dangerous guys on the edge by
that time. Great coverage by the by the Bucks or
by the Panthers. Quinton Edwards, the senior corner was all
over Friarson.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Well, the bell's tolling here at West Ottawa Stadium.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
It's a big play. It's third and ten in this
homecoming crowd getting into it a little bit as they
stopped their feet. Grand Haven will send Friarson and Jorgensen
to the left rad key and Sam Conda is back
in there, split out wide right and Hints is back
to pass and he's in trouble and he gets rid
of it and it's incomplete. He was just throwing it away.
(27:51):
Excellent job by Christian DeWitt providing the pressure. And it's
fourth down and Grand Haven's gonna try a field goal.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Yes, and you mentioned like last week they drove the ball,
had to settle for field goals. They don't want to
do it, but I think it's the right thing to do.
Fourth and ten, you've got to try to get the
points on the board.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
So Will Plumber, the senior outstanding basketball player for grand
Haven also a really good soccer player. He's been really
good kicking this year. Eighteen point after touchdowns and he's
three for four from field goals. He has a long
of thirty seven. This one will be thirty one yards
and the kick is up. It is plenty long enough
and it is good. Will Plumber has put grand Haven
(28:32):
on the board first six thirty one to play. First quarter,
it's grand Haven three and West outaw and nothing. So
a big talking point in this game is finishing drives.
Grand Haven didn't score a touchdown, but they got points.
That's important.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Yeah, I guess three is better than zero, right and
seven's better than three.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
But yeah, they'll take that. And it was interesting.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Why do you think you know, we were talking off
the air that almost every coach Now you win the
coin toss, you defer, you get the ball in the
second half, So why do you think Andrew beating Bender
decided to take the ball first there. Maybe that's what
he wanted to do. Try to get down there and
make a statement.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Well, that is interesting. You want to have the football
coming out of the half, right, That's why I ever
won deferst. But if you can take that opening kick
and score points, especially if you score a touchdown, but
three is better than nothing, you play on the lead,
and I think that's important for this young Grand Haven
team to play on the lead. So Plumber kicks the
(29:32):
thirty one yeard field goal, his fourth of the season.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
We're only in week five.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Excellent job on the long snap that time by junior
Sam Janazek. So Plumber's gonna kick it deep. We sat
of a sense Connor Vach and Ronnie Ferguson back deep,
but it's gonna be an upman to take the short
high end over and kick. Sam Fernandez Wrangle makes a
(29:58):
man miss, spins over the third and Fernandez Wrangel gets
it back out to the thirty five yard line where
west Oudawa will get the football. The Panthers have junior
quarterback Abel Anaya, also dual threat. He has a big arm,
no question. Caleb Montgomery a senior number two will be
in the backfield. The wide receivers are senior number eight
(30:19):
Quentin Edwards.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
And sophomore number four j T.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Gil Ronnie Ferguson starts in the slot and Elijah Reynolds
is the h back. Reynolds will be split out wide
to the left here on first down, it's trips left
for Anaya first and ten from the thirty five yard line.
We'll check out West Audawa offensive lineup for this first play.
Three nothing Grand Haven six twenty three to play, opening quarter.
(30:46):
J T. Gild the sophomore, is the lone receivers split
out wide right and on first down, and I wants
to throw it out and he swings it out to
Ronnie Ferguson. Ferguson stiff arms a man over the forty,
stays on his feet of the forty five, and Ferguson's
got a first down with a twelve yard gain. Excellent
play by number three, the senior, Ronnie Ferguson.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Yes, indeed, he's got fifteen now sixteen catches on the season,
two hundred and twenty five yards.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
He's one of the many weapons.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
And again that's the intriguing thing in this matchup great
skill kids for both teams. Which ones are gonna get
out in the open and make something happen? Nice play
by Ferguson there.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Trevor Luhman number sixty three is a junior left tackle.
Sophomore number seventy two. Owen Zenn is the left guard
as Ferguson gets to pass here on first down and
he's dropped for a loss. Ama Honey Frarson got stiff
armed on the first play. He didn't that time. Big
time play by Friarson gets him for a three yard
loss back to the forty four yard line. Starting at
(31:43):
center Tonight for West Ottawa is junior number fifty two,
Daniel Rodriguez the right guard fifty three, Alexander Carrier a
junior and then sophomore right tackle Jeff Allenboss number sixty seven.
So after the three yard loss on the first down
pass play, it'll bring up second down and thirteen Gill
split up wide to the right. Reynolds is the h
(32:03):
back on the left side of the formation. Montgomery is
next to Anaya in the gun. Ferguson and Edwards. Quinton
Edwards put out wide left gonna be quarterback drop for Anaya,
who gets into midfield into Grand Haven territory about the
forty eight yard line.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Give him a gain of eight. It'll set up third
down for the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
That's what this West Ottawa offense likes to do. Jay
that Reid pass option. So much of their offense goes
through the junior quarterback on Naya and he's got it's
his choice on that one. He made a great call.
He saw a lot of running room. Nice six yard gain.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
So it is third down and five for West Ottawa
from the Grand Haven forty eight yard line. Anaya in
the gun. He's got Reynolds as the age back to
the right side of the formation.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
The short side.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Gil is the receiver over there, Quinton Edwards and Ronnie
Ferguson to the left. Ferguson going in motion. Montgomery is
next to Anaya. They faked the jet sweep run. Anaya
up the middle, falls forward to the forty six. It's
gonna be fourth down and two. Looking at that Grand
Haven defense up front, number sixty six Chase duster Winkle
(33:11):
is one tackle, along with fifty six Dawson Molter and
fifty eight Ethan Wisenbaugh. We's not We're gonna line up
to go for it here on fourth down and three,
they need the forty three. They're at the grand Haven
forty six. We have four minutes to play. Opening quarter.
Buccaneers leading this one three to nothing, and I on
(33:33):
the gun. He's got Reynolds as the h back to
the right side. Ferguson and Gil are the receivers to
the right. Edward's the only receiver to the left, and
I look in that way and it's incomplete. He was
trying to get it to Quentin Edwards at the grand
Haven thirty eight yard line, but the passes incomplete and
the ball will go over on downs to grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
While he had a wide open receiver at that time,
just short armed it a little bit. The ball falls
harmlessly to the turf. Kind of interesting there. I thought
for sure. On fourth and three they were gonna roll
roll and Aya out give him the option of throwing
it or running it. They try to hit the quick
pass play it was open, just couldn't convert it. So
a great start for grand Haven. You know, they got
(34:10):
the three points and they get a defensive stop. Now
let's see if the Bucks can keep this momentum going.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Yeah, they can score a touchdown in this drive.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
That will make that decision to take the ball to
start the game. Really good first intent for Grand Haven.
Lennon Jorgenson, the sophomore, goes in motion but hits wants
to throw a screen. He does to kV Cornstra, but
he's getting real acquainted with CJ. Trailer, who brings him
down for a three yard loss back to the forty three.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Kind of a well designed screenplay there.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
All the motion went right and hints throw it out
to the left, but they just needed one block out
there and they couldn't block the senior CJ. Trailer outside linebacker.
Just a great play turns into a three yard loss.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Grant Hey might want to try the wide side of
the field. Trailer's got that s side on lockdown a
line here on second and thirteen, Trailer is on the
wide side, the right side of the Grand Haven formation.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
They run a corns right at the middle. He's hit
and dropped.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Chris Broncorse, this safety coming up close to the line
of scrimmage, makes the tackle on the backfield. It's third
and fifteen.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Yeah, bronc coursed as well. He's We've said his name
a few times. Quinton Edwards. A lot of these defensive
players for West Ottawa playing well so far, but this
is a this is a huge play. Grand Haven got
the stop, are they going to give it right back
to West Ottawa?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
So on third and fourteen, they'll go a little nickel here.
Ronnie Ferguson checks in as an extra defensive back, trips
to the left for hints, who's looking that way, and
it's incompleting it out of the hands of sophomore Lennon
Jorgensen at the West Ottawa forty seven. It'll be fourth
down in a likely punning situation for the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Yeah, great defensive series there for West Ottawa. They Grand
Haven couldn't do anything, and they're gonna get the ball
back here again, see if they can try to take
the lead in this game.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
So Colin Munford will drop back to his own twenty
eight yard line to punt.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Conter Vulk is the single safety. He waits at his
own twenty yard line. Munford's kick is a high kick
at Vulk will take on his knees at his own
twenty six yard line. He got hit and the ball
came out, but he caught the ball on his knees.
It's twenty six official right on top of it. It
will be West Ottawa football first and ten on their
(36:28):
own twenty six yard line. Let's finish that Grand Haven defense.
They're linebackers Jonah Bremer, a senior number fifty five. He'll
rotate between an outside backer standing up and a defensive
end with his hand on the ground. Junior number eight
Luke Radkey, senior number forty two. Their leading tackler is
Levi Tubergen, and then number five junior Steele Bickley will
(36:52):
be the other backer. The corners are number four junior
Colin Munford and senior number thirteen Ryan More. The safety's
senior number seven Carson Tetoff and junior number ten George
Wilkins On first intend to give is going to go
to Jeremiah Edwards and just boy nowhere to go for
West Ottawa. Between the tackles hit and dropped. He got
(37:12):
maybe two, but a nice shot by that Bucks defense.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Yeah, so far, one of my impressidents of the game
is the defensive lines are getting the better of the
offensive line so far.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Yeah. For Grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
You know up front, Jonah Bremer, Calvin Brunsting, Dawson Moulcher,
they're doing a nice job in the interior.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Second and eight, Anaya out of the gun with time
wants to go deep and it's incomplete. He was trying
to get it to Ronnie Ferguson just shy a midfield.
Carson Tetoff, the senior captain, made a break on the football,
broke that up. It'll be third and long.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yeah, you're right, Jay Teetoff broke on that and but
the ball just got over his hand. The buck's really
fortunate there that it wasn't caught because if he would
have caught that ball, there was nothing but green in
front of him, he would have taken it in for
a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
So very for there. They that didn't go for six.
So it's third down and long for West Ottawa and
Naya in the gun wants to go quickly to Quinton Edwards.
He's got it. Edwards has got a first down anymore.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Quentin Edwards the midfield, Edwards the Grand Haven forty and
Levi Tuber gonna save the tackle at the twenty five
yard line. But it's forty seven yards and a first
down for grand Haven.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Nice piece of blocking out there on the edge free
letting Edwards get out in the open and go. They've
been close a couple of times, Jay to breaking it
and that time one mistackle and he's off to the races.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
This is west Ottawa's best chance.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I beg your pardon. The first down was west Oudawa's
and they go quickly and the pass is going to
be intercepted, intercepted by Amani Frarson who's got it at
the twenty five. Friarson out to the forty and we've
got a penalty flag back at the spot of the interception,
which happened at the Grand Haven ten yard line. The
ball was thrown a little bit behind Ronnie Ferguson and
Frarson picked it off and brought it back to the forty.
(38:59):
But we got to check that penalty flag.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yeah, I think I think they're going to allow that interception.
I think it was a hold after the interception. Let's
see if I have that right.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
That's what it looked like to me. Anyway.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Grand Haven leading west Oudawa three to nothing. We're at
one twenty nine to play. In this opening quarter, the
Buccaneers won the toss, took the ball to start the game,
drove down and kicked a field goal. West Dota turned
the ball around downs on its first possession and Grand
Haven has just punted it back to west Oudawa. So
we have a penalty after the interception. It will be
(39:35):
an interception, so you call the right TK it's a
holding on west Oudawa. After the interception.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
I'm looking across the way, Jay, look at that great
student section for grand Haven. You know, one in three
team hasn't had much football success. I'm impressed with that
student secondal so they're all wearing their crossing guard gear
or something like that. That's what it looks like to me.
And really a good crowd in general from Grand Haven.
You know, on that last play it was a you know,
(40:09):
and I had that great completion and then he was
trying for another one, but just through behind the receiver,
almost right into the hands of Friarson. But after that penalty,
the Bucks are now backed up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Yeah, I'd be half the distance from the spot of
the fall, which was the ten yard line. So grand
Haven first and ten of the five, they're gonna give
it to Kornstra who spins his way out to the
ten and falls forward to the twelve. So Grand Haven's
second best run play of this game. They did run
that option play for a big game with Lennon Jorgenson
on their opening possession. This time kV Cornsher gets his
(40:44):
best game of seven out to the twelve.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Yeah, nice piece of running that time. You know, it's
a whole different deal. He normally was a slot receiver
for the Bucks. Of course, the injury to Williamson. He
goes in the backfield. It's, you know, not that easy.
You need to It's a whole different style of running
at that position. And he did a good job of
at that play.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
So second down and three for Grand Haven. Hints is
going to run at cornstraw again, running over left tackle,
and he's going to be hit and pushed backwards. He
got two to the fourteen. It'll set up third down
and one on the play Boy. Christian DeWitt in there,
Caleb Montgomery, Caleb Morley, just a whole bunch of West
Audwoo defenders in there. I want to remind you that
(41:25):
tonight's first quarter is brought to us by Russ and
Lorie Skidema. Russ and Laurie Sktema of Nexus Reality, your
real estate team looking out for you.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Third and one for Grand Haven TK.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
Yeah, and so far you know grand Haven, they're trying
to establish that run with limited success. This is a
huge play here. Can they get one yard when they
need it?
Speaker 2 (41:47):
So Rakkey is split out wide left, he's in the
slot with Sam Conda, Friarson and Jorgenson split out wide
to the right and West out one might have jumped
off sides and they did. They're going to give him
a free five yards. I don't think Grand Haven need
a snapped the ball. There's one second on the clock
and West at Wroo jumped off side of the game
of first down.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
You know you mentioned it. You talked about it in
the pregame. Mistakes by both of these teams. You know,
that's a just a careless mistake there third and one.
If they could have got that stop, forced to punt
deep in their own territory instead, first down Grand Haven.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
That'll do it for the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
With our score Grand Haven three, West Outawa nothing.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
We'll have more from west Oudawa Stadium. This is the
LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one oh
seven m us the Moose Grand Haven three, West Oudawa nothing.
It's homecoming for the Panthers. Jason and Tom Kendra at
the Lake Shore Game of the Week on one oh
(42:43):
seven m us the Moose only three points that first quarter. Top.
It's a big plays each.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
Way, that's right.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
And you know, I guess it shouldn't surprise us teams
that have trouble punching it in in the red zone.
I guess West Outa what wasn't technically in the red zone,
but when they got when West Addawa had a good
drive going, they turn it over. When Grand Haven had
a good drive going, they had to settle for the
field goal. So again, just like we said in the pregame,
which one of these teams is gonna punch it into
(43:10):
the end zone, take advantage of their opportunities, probably end
up winning.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
So after the offside penalty on West Ottawa, Grant even'll
have it first and ten those scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
From their own nineteen yard line. Hints has got rad
Key and ConA split out wide right, Friarson to the left.
Hints is gonna roll over of the right now he's
in trouble. He's gonna go down. Chris Bronkhorst got.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Him back inside the ten at about the nine, and
that's a big play from the safety for West Ottawa.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
Yeah, that time broncorsed on the blitz on unblocked there
and the lefty hints was rolling out the wrong way,
rolling out to the right, and when he turned it
was just bronchorsed in his face.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
A huge loss. What is that about a ten yard loss? Jay?
I love this?
Speaker 2 (43:55):
I love this by Brockmeers, the defensive coordinator for West Ottawa.
You know, Broncourst is a safety. He's been playing up
close to line. Scream is more like a linebacker against
wing T teams. You didn't probably expect to see that
against a spread team like Grand Haven, but he's making
some noise. Lennon Jorgenson goes in motion on second and
long and they're gonna run cornshover right guard. Cornstro fights
forward to about the fifteen yard line, but it's a
(44:17):
modest gain of five. It'll set up third down and
fourteen for the Buccaneers.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Take a quick look at the rapid radio scoreboard. As expected,
Muskegan and Mona Shores having tough games on the road.
Right now, it's Forest Till's Northern eight, Muskegan seven and
Byron Center seven Mona Shores seven. The most surprising score
so far Spring Lake fourteen West Catholic seven. And then
how about the Fruitport Trojans. They have won two in
(44:45):
a row, twenty three to nothing over Comstock Park.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
All score it updates are provided by Rapid Radios, the
only nationwide LT walkie talking with no monthly fee ever.
Great for families, hunting, camping, emergency.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
Use and more.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Find out more at rapid radios dot com. Hints wants
to throw in third and long. He's pressured. He gets
rid of it incomplete. But a good job by that
West out of a front to get home. It'll be
fourth down and the Bucks will have to kick it away.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
Yeah, Jay, After that first possession by grand Haven where
they look good move the ball, got the field goal.
The last two times they've had the ball three and out.
And this West Outawa defense is really playing well. They're
coming with pressure and what is grand Haven going to
do to counter that pressure? So far they don't have
an answer.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
So Munford is back into putt for the second time.
He stands a yard deep in his own ends on
the snap is high, he retreats and gets it and
he gets the kick away. Heck of a play by
Munford and a good kick bounces at the forty eight
takes a West out of a bounce. kV Cornsher will
down it at the forty seven, so it ends up
being a thirty four yard punt. Pretty good result for
grand Haven considering it look bad with that snap.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
Oh no question.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Colin Munford the junior just kept his composure there and
was able to get a pretty decent pun off and
could have been a disaster for grand Haven. But instead
grand Haven still with that three nothing lead, but great
starting position here for West Ottawa.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
So West auDA will have it first and tent of
the grand Haven forty seven yard line, best starting position
for either team in this game. Three nothing Grand Haven
leads and I is gonna run it with Caleb Montgomery.
Montgomery patiently waits and put falls forward to the forty
three give him four yards there on first down.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Again, the Panthers have not had much of a running
game at all. Caleb Montgomery, a big power back, just
one hundred and eighty yards on the season a couple
of touchdowns. The leading of Rushier has been a naya.
He's got one hundred and forty three rushing yards on
the season.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
So after the game of four by Caleb Montgomery, it's
second down in six and ay a playfake. Wants to
throw looking for Ronnie Ferguson, but Tobal is behind him
out of bounds. It'll be third down. Colin providing the
coverage for the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
Yeah, so far, Anaya just a little bit off.
Speaker 3 (47:04):
He had an open receiver there, just throw it a
little too far outside. He wasn't able to make the catch.
But and now it brings up a third down. I'm
thinking here on the Grand Haven side of the fifty
yard line, four down territory for the Panthers. But let's
see if they can pick it up here on third.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Amoni Friarson, the junior number one, is in at safety
alongside Teetoff. It's interesting Trey Vanderwald played a lot of
safety this year. We were told it was going to
be George Wilkins, but it's been a lot of Amni Friars. Soon,
at third down, they run the screen of Reynolds. Reld's
got a first down of more. Renolds breaks the tackles
inside the thirty Elijah Reynolds inside the twenty yard line
before Jonah Bremer brings.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Him down at the eighteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
But it's a gain of twenty five and another buccaneer.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
Big play Dan right there, Jay.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
I guess that's why Elijah Reynolds wanted to get back on.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
The field for his senior year.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
And it's good to see that he broke maybe two
three tackles on that play. And now West out of
in the red zone. Now can they get into the
end zone.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
Reynolds dealing with a left shoulder injuries, wearing a brace
on it. He's been out since very early in that
Zealand West game in week too. They're gonna run Jeremiah
Edwards right up the middle, the bigger of the two
running backs between he and Caleb Montgomery, bowls his way
inside the fifteen to the fourteen yard line. It's a
gain of four on first down for West Ottawa.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
Levi Tubergen there, the senior middle linebacker for Grand Haven.
They're leading tackler, ringleader of the defense. Got him by
the feet there. A little more tempo for West Autos.
They running the line of scrimmage and I is gonna
hand it off to Edwards again. Edwards inside the ten,
falls forward to the seven, make it the six, eight
more yards in a first down. What a block by
(48:41):
the sophomore number seventy two, Owen, how do you say that?
Speaker 1 (48:45):
Last name? Jaesus Zadun Zeddin, Zeddin.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
The sophomore did a great job, opened a huge hole
and the Panthers knocking on the door.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
Zedding one of two sophomore starting in the old line.
Jeff Ellen Boss number sixty seven is the right tackle.
And on first and goal they're gonna run edwards. But
we got a whistle and a penalty. Looks like it's
gonna be first and goal. They're gonna call off sides
on Grand Haven, so that'll be half the distance of
the goal, and so first to goal from the sixth
will become first in goal from the three.
Speaker 5 (49:17):
Check half of instance.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
Still first up, grand Haven three, West out of win nothing.
Eight minutes, thirty three seconds to play. Second quarter. It's
a rivalry night in the ok Red Rockford, Grandville, Caledoni,
East Kent with Jennison Hudsonville and here at West Outawa Stadium,
the Panthers taking on Grand Haven and we're gonna get
a time out. Grand Even's gonna call a timeout. We'll
step aside. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of
(49:41):
the Week on one oh seven, m us the Most,
Jason Hutting and Tom Kendra Back at West Oudawa Stadium.
It's homecoming for the Panthers, who are trailing Grand Haven
three and up in this week five edition of the
(50:02):
mc lake Shore Game of the Week. But the home
team has the ball first and goal on the three
thanks to some really good defense which got them the
football on the Grand Haven side of the field after
forcing a punt and then a twenty five yard bubble
screen completion from Able Andaya to Elijah Edwards. So my
first and goal from the three, it's Jeremiah Edwards and
(50:23):
he's gonna get the ball running right up the middle
and he's.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Got a yard.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Maybe Jonah Bremer makes thet tacker will be second down
a goal.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Wow, nice job that time by Bremer.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
Jeremiah Edwards, he is a load and he's tough to
stop here and right at the goal line. But good
job by the Bucks defense on that play.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
Brings up second down.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
Jeremiah the junior wears number nine. Quintin Is senior wears
number eight. They attended Allegant High School last year. But
I have journeyed west here to West Ottawa. Second and
goal and it's Jeremiah Edwards next to Anaya and it's
Jeremiah gets the call, but nowhere to go hit and dropped.
Nice job that time by number sixty, the senior Tyrell Winners.
(51:06):
It'll be third and goal.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
Yeah, great job there.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
He's a big guy, Winners, but he showed some good
athletic ability getting in dragging down the big fellow from behind.
Can Grand Haven get the huge stop here? They forced
him down to a third and goal Here.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Ronnie Ferguson in the slot to the left, Quentin Edwards
split out wide left, j T Gil the sophomore to
the short side ride and they're.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
Gonna run it again.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Edward's right in the middle of even get there again.
And this has gotta be just a nightmare for West Ottawa.
They have twice this year had the ball first and
goal inside the five yard line and turned the ball
over on down sad happened in week one here against
Grand Ledge, happened in week two against Zeland West. They
have just really struggled to run the ball in these
short yarded situations.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
Yeah, grand Haven rising up. I think Pat Collins thinks
he's able to. He could hand it off to Number
nine Jeremiah Edwards and get in.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
But a lot of bucks coming up and making plays.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
That one Carson teed off, the safety came up and
made the stop, and here we are Jay fourth and goal.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
The West Attawa is gonna call time out. Pat Collins
wants to talk this over. It's fascinating. They've just tried
to run middle three times with Jeremiah Edwards to just nothing.
Fourth and goal from the three. I might try to
go to a slants, a quick bubble, anything, but you
gotta get outside the tackles.
Speaker 3 (52:22):
I think, yeah, I just think you got a roll
abel and Aya out where he's got that run pass
option and if he sees it, if he sees he
can get three yards take it and.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
If he has to throw it, then throw it.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
But I yeah, just it hasn't worked running between the tackles,
so I would fully expect them to see the rollout
and then an option play.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
Say tuned, because we've got the preferred Auto Dealers halftime
show coming up, We'll send it to East Lansing. John
Ross will check in with this week in high school sports.
He's got a little feature on the Big Day from
Selene's Tommy Carr all he did TK last week was
throw eight touchdown passes and it went over Dexter. By
the way, Dexter's pretty good. They were three to oher
(53:05):
going into that game. Plus we'll go live to Scott
de Camp who is at maskiing Catholic Central as the
Crusaders are taking on Orchard View. Take a look at
the first half stats and have keys to victory in
the second half six to forty eighth. To play a
second quarter after the time out, West Outawa trailing screen
to nothing. They have it fourth down and goal from
the three. Reynolds is split out wide to the right
(53:26):
and I a looking for him.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
He's got it.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Touchdown Elijah Reynolds on the quick slant West Ottawa on
the board.
Speaker 3 (53:34):
Wow, great play call there by Pat Collins. Elijah Reynolds
back in the lineup, and yeah, I guess on second thought,
it's obvious that's what you do. That slant pass to
a you know, a great player Reynolds going to a
Central Michigan University and a great delivery by Anayah And
that's got to feel good for coach Pat Collins to
(53:56):
get into the end zone there.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
So Conor Vak will attempt the extra point out of
the hold of Chris Bronkhurst. Abel and I have the
quarterback is the long snapper pass from center is good,
hold is down and box kick is up and it
is good. That makes our score West Outawa seven and
Grand Haven three with six minutes and forty four seconds
(54:22):
to play in the second quarter. That West out of
a touchdown drive ten plays forty seven yards, took three
forty two off the clock, and the scoring play is
a three yard touchdown pass from Abel and Aya to
Elijah Reynolds on fourth and goal to make it seven
to three. And that touchdown means another fifty dollars is
(54:44):
donated by LMCU to Kids' food basket. We were over
twenty four hundred dollars this season, twenty four hundred and
fifty dollars through four weeks. That'll put us to at
least twenty five hundred, depending on what's going on at
Rains whose Smith Stadium is buck Gino and Brepakitta have
Belding and howling tonight in the Okay Silver. My guess
(55:05):
is they're going to do a lot to feed the
kids because that should be a high scoring game.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
Yeah, hopefully you know we were on a roll for
a while, Jason. Our first few games touchdowns like crazy.
Last week just three touchdowns when we were up at
Montague and kind of a slow start offensively. Here there's
our first score of the game.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Kids Food Baskets, our official nonprofit for the LMCU Lake
Short Game of the Week. LMCU once again donating fifty
dollars to Kids Food Basket to nourish local kids to
reach their full potential. They donate fifty dollars for every
touchdown in both our game here on one of seven
m us and in the Game of the week on
ninety six point one. The game six forty four to
play before the half, West Ottawa with its first lead
(55:42):
of the game seven three over Grand Haven. Bucks will
get it back. I'mani Friarson, Sam Conda wait at their
own ten. Griff and Dodd will kick it deep for
the Panthers. Booming kick from Dodd and this one's going
to go into the end zone for a touchback. So
the Buccaneers will start first in ten on their own
(56:04):
twenty yard line and tk after a seventy one yard
drive led to a field goal. Grand Haven has five
total yards the last two possessions.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
Yeah, we've seen the west Otawa defense just become much
more aggressive, Like you mentioned, Bob brock Myers calling the
defense and really putting the pressure on easton hints. And
now it's up to grand Haven to realize, Okay, this
is what they're doing to us.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
They're coming after us. How do we counter that?
Speaker 3 (56:28):
You know, what kind of plays do we have that
would work against that type of defense? And let's see
if they're able to do it here. There's plenty of
time for them to put a drive together.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
Of course, brock Myers the defensive coordinator for Pat Collins,
with all that success at Monague, they did pretty well
in their days with the Wildcats. So Cornsher gets the
ball in first intent, just nowhere to go. West Ottawa
just ready for it. Griffin dodd led the charge. Maybe
a half yard game for Cornstraw, that'll be second and long.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
Yeah, they Grand Haven knows how dangerous cornstrip can be.
They're just trying to find a way to sneak him
through the line and he could be off to the races.
But so far West Ottawa very good and they're a
gap discipline not allowing him to get started.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
I'm really surprised we haven't seen that sprint option with
Hints and cornstraw. I wonder if Matt and Ibber is
not going to think about going to that here on
this drive, second down in nine and a half, ball
just across the twenty Lennon Jorgenson goes in motion, Hints
is going to roll to the left, and he's gonna
throw it to Jorgenson caught it to twenty five. He
steps out of bounds at about the twenty eight yard line,
(57:31):
but gat McGain of seven, it'll be third and two.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
You know, Easton Hints to me looks so much better
when he's on the move rather than just dropping straight back.
He's not a drop back passer. He is definitely a
sprint out passer. Like on that play right there, looked
really good. Nice completion and now they got it to
third and short. I think this is a really big
play Jason grant Haven. They trail now seven to three.
(57:55):
They don't want to give the ball right back to
west Odawa. They got to find a way to get
two yards.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
Yeah, they can't put their defense back out there, and
if they don't convert this, it's gonna be likely pretty
good field position for the Panthers again as well. And
I think Andrew Beatenbdder thinks the same thing. So he's
gonna call time out here. He wants to make sure
they have the right play dialed up because this is
a crucial play early in this game. Seven to three,
West Outawa leads Grand Haven. We have five minutes fifty
nine seconds to play in the second quarter. This a
(58:21):
big game in the OK Red. Both teams are going
to get into the win column in conference play. Of course,
Grand Haven won its season opener at home over Lake
Shore in impressive fashion thirty eight to nothing. But if
dropped three in a row, and you know, you look
back to that Week two game against Travers City West. Yes,
they lost easton hints for the second half because of injury,
but they lost four fumbles in the first half of
that game. I mean, there has not been a there's
(58:44):
been just a one turnover in this game, and it
was Grand Haven forcing it. But boy, what could have
been if you're the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
Well that's right then, and obviously West Odawa can say
some of the same things. While we got a second here,
I'll give a quick rapid radio scoreboard updatea up maybe brewing.
At Byron Center, Byron Center leads Bona Shores fourteen to seven.
Muskegan leads fourteen to seven, over four to Shills Northern
and Reese Puffer. At Grand Rapids Union, they lead twenty
(59:11):
to six.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
I'm not really surprised by that Byron Center score. I
tell you the Bulldogs are one and three. They played
as good as schedule as you can find. Cornstrudg is
not going to get the first down off right guard
Griffin Dodd got him ato twenty nine. It's fourth and one,
and it looks like Andrew Biden Better is gonna at
least think about going for it. The offense is still
out there fourth and one in the twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
Yeah, yeah, maybe not a bad decision here because you
know the punning, how effective is that at the high
school level. You feel like we can't give the ball
back to him and we should be able to make
a yard. And I think that's got to be disappointing
for Beads, you know, coming off a time out with
this experienced offensive line, that we can't get a yard.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
So let's see what happens here.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Well, you certainly can't give West out of the ball
back at the twenty nine yard line, kind of goes
wide left, Friarson wide right.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Rat Key is the h back. They run behind him
and he did not get it. Ryan Montgomery, this sophomore
gets him in the backfield.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
It's a loss of one and west Ottawa's gonna get
the football on the grand Haven twenty eight yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
Wow, what a play there, knifing in Montgomery. Just no
chance there for Cornstra and both of these defenses, you know,
flexing their muscles when they have to, but wow, that
is huge. Like Yek you mentioned, now West Oudawa's got
the ball, They got the lead, but they got the
ball at Grand Haven's twenty eight yard line with plenty
(01:00:32):
of time on the clock.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
Well, now the Grand Haven defense, which has been pretty solid,
is going to really have to step up here because
west Ottawa has a chance to go up two scores
with the football on the Grand Haven twenty eight yard
line after the turnover.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
On downs and like we mentioned, they will be getting
the ball. West Ottawa will to start the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Ferguson and Gill split. Why excuse me. Gill's on the
right and he's going in motion. He gets it on
the jet Gil trying to runder the white side of
the field left, cuts it up and stays on his
feet inside the twenty five to the twenty four. How
coup a job by the sophomore there. He was hit
after a game of about one turned it into a
game of four.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Yeah, nice job by Friarson there for grand Haven coming
up and turning that play in. It looked for a
minute there like he might be able to get the
adge on that sweep, but he turned it in and
it was just a short game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Elijah Reynolds h back on the short side of the
field to the left. Second down and sixth from the
twenty four, Quinton Edwards put out wide left and I
wants to throw.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
He's got the wheel route to Renolds into the end zone. Touchdown,
West Ottawa.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Elijah Reynolds from Abel and Ayah for the second time
in this quarter and the Panthers turned the excellent field
position into points.
Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
What a welcome back party so far for Elijah Reynolds.
Great job there in a perfect delivery there from Anaya
and to a wide open Reynolds and he just lunged
the ball all into the end zone and West Ottawa
now after falling behind firmly in control.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Well, there's a penalty flag in the end zone. It
looks like this is going to go against the Panthers
because they're talking to the Grand Even sideline.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
It may be post score, we'll see. I believe it
will be. Yet had to be.
Speaker 8 (01:02:17):
After the score on sportsman like offense that penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Kickball, so on sportsman like on West Oudawa, it'll be
enforced on the kickoff. I'll tell you what. Tom Elijah
Reynolds is a stud, no question about He's going to CMU.
He's going to play linebacker. We have not seen him
play defense but maybe one play tonight. His impact has
been on the offensive side of the football. Is an
(01:02:45):
h backslash tight end.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
He asked no question about it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
He is just a great target for Anaya.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Extra point from Vulcan is up and good West Oudawa
extends its lead to fourteen to three, three over Grand Haven,
and the Panthers have dominated this second quarter. After Grand
Haven led three to nothing after twelve minutes, that West
out of a scoring drive two plays twenty eight yards
after they turned Grand Haven over on downs at the
(01:03:15):
twenty eight yard line. It's able Anaya to Elijah Reynolds
twenty eight yard touchdown pass the second time those two
have hooked up tonight, and that makes it another fifty
dollars to Kids Food Basket, LMCU donating fifty dollars. You know,
we only had three touchdowns one hundred and fifty dollars
last week in our Whitehall, montagu Battle for the Bell.
(01:03:35):
We've got fifty dollars in or excuse me, one hundred
dollars and two touchdowns in the course of about two
minutes here.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Yeah, all of a sudden, we're seeing some offense here.
But so you know, you look at it from Grand
Haven's perspective, they had it third and two there at
the twenty nine yard line or twenty eight yard line,
I guess it was. They go on third down, they
get one yard and then they decide to go for it.
But you know, I almost can't blame Andrew beaden Bender.
(01:04:02):
I mean, you gotta be able to make one yard,
but they weren't able to do it, and as a result,
great field position and an easy touchdown really for West Ottawa.
So so Grand Haven hopefully because of that penalty, they
might be get good field position if they're able to
get on the board before halftime, that would be huge.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Well, speaking of good field position, grand Haven does have
a chance here because after the unsportsman like penalty Griffin
Dodd's gonna have to kick from his own twenty five
instead of his own forty. So Conda and Friarson are
waiting at their own twenty five yard line, but Dodd
does have a boot.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
He kicked the last.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
One into the end zone for a touchback. This is
a little short Squire. It's gonna come to the upman.
It's gonna be Tanner Wolf taking in his own forty
and he comes back over the forty five to the
forty six. So pretty good field position for Grand Haven
here as they get it back with four to twenty
nine to play in the second quarter and they trail
by eleven, fourteen to three.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Yeah, so far, their offense outside of that first drive
has been completely throttled. I think their game plan coming
into this game was to try to run the ball
with KB Cornstraw. It's not working. I mean they need
to do something else. I think what they need to
do is they need to get Easton Hints out of
the pocket. Maybe let him run the ball a little
bit and throw it if need be, but right now
(01:05:19):
their running game is stalled.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Yeah, it's been. The quick passing game has been effective
for Grant Haven in this game. The problem is they've
just not been able to run it. And Corns's forte
is more. He's a wide receiver. First of all. He's
been moved to running back because of the injury to Williamson.
But his speed is his strength. Hins is going to
throw it to him in the left flat. He's got
it at midfield and down there he'll get five yards.
(01:05:43):
Quintin Edwards, who doesn't play a lot of defense, and
Abele and I to make the tackle'll be second and five.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
Yeah you look at that, you say, Okay, it's only
a five yard gain. But running the ball, they've been
going backwards. So a good job there, good call by
the by the Bucks. Get it out in space, because
there's always the opportunity on that kind of play, Jason,
where you break a tackle. Instead of a five yard game,
it can be a thirty five yard game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
My apologies. Quintin Edwards is the starting corner has been
all season long. He plays a ton of defense. Second
down in five o'clock, running three fifty to play before
the half empty set for hints, He's got trips to
the right and he looks that way. Now he's gonna
roll left and he's gonna keep it. He's got a
first down inside the west out of a forty five
down close to the forty two yard line. Hints games ten,
(01:06:28):
they're gonna spot him at the forty and Grant Haven
to move the chains.
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
That's what I'm talking about right there, Jason. I mean,
that was a pretty effort less ten yards and it
seems like, you know it be there most of the
time when because they have to respect these athletes that
grand Haven throws out there and that leaves running room
for hints. So let's see if they keep keep this
up here, they're moving it a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
So they spot it at the west out of a
forty Sam Conda and Luke Radkey and Lennon Jorgensen all
go split out wide to the right, Cornstra and Friarson
short side left. Hints in the empty set, got Jorgensen
on the quick curl. He's inside the thirty five and
down to the thirty two. Give him eight yards on
first down. And this quick passing game is working for
(01:07:12):
the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Yeah, nice job here. They got plenty of times.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
Still three and a half minutes to play before halftime,
trailing fourteen to three. But wouldn't they feel a whole
lot better going into halftime fourteen to ten if they're
able to get this in, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
This west side of a defense.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
It's interesting, Tom, It reminds me a little bit of
the spring Lake defense we saw two weeks ago. It's
a four to three, but the defensive ends they call
him defensive ends. They stand up in the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
So Dodd and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
The way ten and twenty they stand. I almost call
him this is almost like that two to five like
spring Lake runs. When you look at Quaar Trailer and
Montgomery at linebacker.
Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Yeah, they clearly you know, their strength is not upfront.
They don't have an abund linemen and so maybe that
is part of the reason they're playing this kind of
a odd defense.
Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
Well, there's a fifteen They just moved the ball fifteen
yards in favor of Grand Haven. There must have been
a penalty. I did not see a flag, but there's
some sort of fifteen yard penalty on West Ottawa. So
they're going to move the ball to the seventeen. It's
first down in ten grand Haven on the seventeen yard line.
Clocketts stopped three twenty eighth to play second quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Wow, that's a huge penalty that brings it inside the
red zone.
Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
With the plenty of time for the Bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
Now the clock will start as the balls marked ready
for play. Grand Haven having success with this empty set,
they'll go to it again again. It's a quick pass
of corn straight to ten. He's dropped right there by
Elijah Renolds, who is out there on defense now for
West Ottawa. But it's seven yards on first down.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
Yeah, and again and now now the Bucks now maybe
they can hand the ball off the cornser and there
might be some room because they are stretching the defense.
They're making them defend the whole field, and all of
a sudden, this Buck's offenses is ignited.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
I thought, we're gonna have to find an answer, make
an adjustment here. Although grand Haven now and second and
three from the ten will bring Cornstra back into the
backfield and rad Key as an h back on the
right side of the formation. Jorgenson goes in motion and
they're gonna give it to Corns running left. Cornstre inside
the five, spinning into the end zone. kV. Cornstraw ten
(01:09:25):
yard touchdown run and Grand Haven gets its first touchdown
of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
Very impressed that they're jay with the adjustments made by
Matt Knabber, the offensive coordinator for Grand Haven. But they
opened up that those quick passes by Easton Hints opened
things up. And then all of a sudden, now when
you hand it to cornstra there's room around that left side.
Good blocking Louis Vargo over there, the left tackle leading
(01:09:51):
the way, and Cornstraw was hit there at the three
yard line, just fought his way into the end zone
for the score.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
So Grandaven will ten the extra point. Sam Janizek is
the snapper, the hold is down and the kick is
up from Will Plumber and it's good. Trey Vanderwald number
three is the holder and Will Plumber kicks it through.
So our score with two thirty five to play in
the second quarter is West out of with fourteen and
Grand Haven ten. The Bucks first touchdown of the game
(01:10:24):
is another fifty dollars donated the Kids Food Basket by LMCU.
Kids Food Baskets are official nonprofit for them. See Lake
Short Game of the Week. This regular season, they'll donate
fifty dollars for every touchdown to help nourish local kids
to reach their full potential. That Grand Haven's scoring drive
(01:10:45):
TK six plays fifty five yards, it takes just one
minute and fifty eight seconds, and it's cap by the
kV CORNERW ten yard touchdown round. It's interesting the first
five plays. While the first five plays of the drive
were called passes, one time hints scrambled so tech the
there were four passes, two runs, but it was that
empty set passing ability. I think that opened up the
(01:11:06):
run there at the end.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
Oh, I don't think there's any question about it, because
it was clear that the Bucks game plan coming into
this game was Hey, we got experience up front and
we're gonna pound them. It didn't work, but you give
coach Beads and his staff credit for recognizing it and saying, hey,
we're not gonna keep banging our heads against the wall.
We're gonna throw it. And it opened up the opened
(01:11:28):
up the run there for Cornstraw.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Plumber's kick is gonna be taking by Vauck at his
own five yard line. He runs right over the fifteen
about the seventeen. But we have a penalty flag down
and it looks like West Ottawa TK is going to
be backed up to start this drive.
Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
Yeah, a couple of different penalty flags there. There's some
There's been some extracurriculars on the special teams and I
think the refs have seen enough. I don't know if
it was if it's gonna go one against each team
or if it's just gonna go against West Ottawa. There
was the initial flag, then there was another further down
the field.
Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
These may off set.
Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Well, this is a rivalry teaka. I mean the winner
gets the beach. Nobody wants to lose the beach. Is
that really they they play for a trophy. They do
have a traveling trophy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Yeah, let's see what they end up doing here. They
have a little conversation here with the officials.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
Pat Collends is out of the field.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
He wants to know because he's had his share of
calls not go his way this season. They do have
mics on this at this beautiful west side of the stadium.
We have a personal fall in West Ottawa that's declined
and then we have a blind side block on the
receiving team. So West Otawa is going to be backed
(01:12:42):
up here with two point thirty to play in the
second quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Well, so there were two penalties, both of them against
West Ottawa.
Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
It's funny momentum in football.
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
I mean, just a couple of minutes ago, West Ottawa
had all the momentum two touchdowns in a row, and
then Grand Haven they make a few adjustments to their
offense and they score, and then all of a sudden
they back up West Otto on deep.
Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
Now, now all the mononum is with Grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
So let's see what happens here in the final two
minutes and thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
So West Otawa will start from its own eight yard
line after the penalty. On the kick return, abel and
Aya sends Ferguson, Reynolds and Edwards out wide to the left.
Pump fakes with time, wants to go deep, trying to
get it too Reynolds and just overthrown at the forty
five yard line. Two bucks running with him. That includes
(01:13:42):
both Sam Conda excuse me, that's Carson Tetoff, as well
as the corner Ryan Moore to be second and ten.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
You know, I love that play call though by Pat
Collins backed up. I mean, Elijah Reynolds has had a
huge game already has two touchdown receptions and he went
for broke there, but just a little bit overthrown that time.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
This time Reynolds will be an h back on the
right side of the formation and they're going to throw
quickly to Gil who's got it the thirteen hit immediately
by Colin Munford and driven back give him five yards.
It'll set up third and five clock running at two
fifteen to play before the half.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Yeah, dangerous throw there out into the flat. Munford looked
like he almost anticipated it and had a chance to
pick that off. As it was, he smacked the receiver
right after he caught it for a short gain.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Well, a big play here for both teams. If Grant
even get a stop, probably called time out, get the
ball that good field position. If West thought it can convert,
they can either try to speed up a little bit
and get points or maybe just take it to the half.
With the lead on third and five, and I wants
to throw and it's incomplete over the head of JT.
Gild the sophomore, and there's a penalty flag back at
the place where Anya threw it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
They're gonna have holding on West Ottawa. This will be
declined and it'll be fourth down. Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
Yeah, Anaya just a little He's been high on a
few of his throws. He throws a great ball, but
just a little off with his accuracy over the head
of Gil that time. And it looks like Grand Avn's
gonna get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
And they'll have a chance here, right. I mean, they
got to get in a good field position because they're
gonna have to pump from their own thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
Yeah, the Bucks are gonna have Amani Friarson back deep.
He's dangerous and h this is a great opportunity for him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
It's interesting. Chris Broncourse is the putter. They usually pitch
it to him when he goes in motion. I don't
see him on the field right now. Looks like a
Naya is gonna punt it himself and he is so
abel and Naya is gonna kick it and it's gonna
bounce at the forty three take a panther bounce into
buccaneer territory, still rolling at the forty five, and all
the way down to the forty two yard line, forty
(01:15:56):
five yards and no return. This bron Course, who he's
seen play a really good game on defense, rousttup. Normally,
he plays a lot of wide receiver and at fourth
down what they'll do tk every time this year, they'll
run him in orbit motion, they'll pitch it back and
he'll kick it. But he wasn't on the field that time,
and Abel and I have punted it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Yeah, And what an advantage when your quarterback can punt
it like that Because you saw Almani for Ierson had
to run up to respect the respect the pass and
as a result, there was nobody deep and that punt
took a great west out of a bounce all the
way down to the forty two. So what could have
been like maybe a big return because the quarterback is
(01:16:35):
punting it away, it ends up being a great punt
for the for the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
So Grant Haven has ninety seconds and one time out
here ninety seconds in one time out, they'll have it
from their own forty two empty set. For hints, he's
gonna throw complete to Jorgenson a midfield Jorgenson in the
west out of a territory at the forty eight. He's
very close to a first down and it looks like
they are going to give it to him. They'll stop
the clock and move the chains with one twenty one
and Grand Haven's gonna go quickly here as they are
(01:17:02):
going to hold onto that one time out Trailing fourteen ten.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
The Bucks have found a soft spot in this defense.
Those little curl routes have been wide open.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
And now they're going to throw them out to Jorgensen.
He's hit by Quaar, but he holds onto it at
the forty five. It's a short gain of three and
the clock will run. Grand Haven will go in a
hurry here as there's down to one minute to play
in this second quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Lennond Jorgens in just a sophomore. He's played a great
first half.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
Jay boy, they are getting him the football. Hint snapped
it at fifty six with time wants to go deep
in completely looking for Jorgenson again. That one thrown out
of bounds at the west out of twenty seven, it'll
not be third down and seven for Grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
That's okay for Easton hints, that's much better than taking
a sack. There wasn't anybody opened through it, and you
live to a live to play another down. There's still
fifty one seconds to go. Let's see what the Bucks
can dial up maybe they have some sort of play
to get the ball downfield to one of their They've
got some dangerous weapons too, Amani Frierson is the one
(01:18:00):
that comes to mind, Also Lennon Jorgensen.
Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
So the clock has stopped, grand Haven still has its
one timeout. Kanda and Radkey and Jorgensen go to the
wide side left, trips that way, Coreynstra and Munford to
the short side right, empty set for hints. Who's gonna roll?
Now he's gonna run and he didn't get the first down,
brought down by Christian de Witt at the forty two
from behind. It's a small gain. It's fourth down. Clock
(01:18:28):
is running. Grand Haven has one timeout, but at this
point it's fourth down. Not sure what you want to
do here. If you're Andrew beating Bender.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Yeah, I think you gotta go for it with just
thirty seconds here. Great play by de Witt there, Hints
didn't even see him. Lucky he was able to hold
onto the ball that time.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
So it's fourth and fourth from the west out of
a forty two, empty set for hints, Gonna throw quickly
caught by Jorgensen at the thirty seven moves the chains
that Grand Haven should use it. Now, they're not gonna
use their final timeout seventeen seconds. They're going to run
the line of scrimmage and spike it. Clock is stopped
as the chains move on the gain of five and
Hint spikes it with fifteen seconds excuse me, fourteen seconds
to go, So Grand Haven holds onto its one timeout
(01:19:05):
at most probably three plays left in the half.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
Yeah, And that would ended up being great clock management
there by the Bucks because, like you mentioned, they stopped
the clock until the chains are set, So by going
up there and spiking it, just three seconds went off
the clock and they didn't have to burn that time out.
Because that timeout is huge, they may have to use
it here, possibly set.
Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
Up a field goal attempt.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Will Plumber already has a thirty one yard field goal,
so that timeout is.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Going to come in handy, and he has a long
of thirty seven this year. So my guess is they'll
give him a shot if they can get in position
Hints out of the empty set. He's flushed out and
he threw it away. Smart play. Good pressure that time
from Alexander Carrier, who came right up the middle from.
Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
His defensive tackle position. He forced Hints to throw it away.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Now there's eight seconds left, so Grandaven still has its timeout,
so they can now use the middle of the field,
but till thirty seven yards away from the en zone.
Speaker 3 (01:20:01):
Yeah, time for one more play. They try to get
something up close to the twenty yard line, which will
if they're able to get to the twenty five yard
line or closer, I think that would give Plumber a chance.
But again, there's so much better I think when when
Hints rolls out and had to dropped straight back. Every
time he's dropped straight back, there's they've had no success.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
So it is third down and ten.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
They spiked it on first down, Hints throws it away
on second down Friarson and kind of short side left,
Hints looking that way. He's got to complete to Friarson
who goes out of bounds. At to thirty two with
four seconds left. This would be a forty nine yard
field goal attempting. It looks like they're gonna try it.
Grandaven does have a time out, but they're sending Will
Plumber and the field goal unit out. This would be
a very long field goal attempt.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Again, no win here.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
Tonight at West Audwa Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Yeah, it is a very calm. It's a great night
to kick. So if you're ever gonna kick an almost
fifty yard field goal, this would be the night to do.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
Will plumber. The Grand Haven Basketball and st Soccer Star
is four for five on field goals this year. Sam
Janazek will snap it, Trey Vanderwall will hold. He'll put
it down to the thirty nine. It's officially a forty
nine yard attempt and the kick is up and it's
not gonna get anywhere near. It'll be well shorts and
that will take us to the half with the score
(01:21:18):
West Ottawa fourteen and Grand Haven ten. It's been an
entertaining first half and this one's gonna come down to
the final twenty four minutes. We'll step aside. We'll come
back with the preferred Credit Union halftime show. This is
the LMCU Lake Shot Game of the Week on one
oh seven mus the.
Speaker 8 (01:21:36):
Moose, a winning weekend for the car family and its
statement on sportsmanship from the Student Advisory Council. I'm John
Ross and this is this week in high School of Sports,
powered by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
Speaker 7 (01:21:54):
Lots of time, cars looking around, looking around, Nice scrambles, Tony.
Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
He's pointing direction, he sees, he sees Cherry dead the
field for a forty eight yard touchdown. Chy touchdown, Hornets.
Speaker 8 (01:22:13):
That was justin Hobbs on the call for the Selene
Live Video crew. Playing conference rival Dexter, car threw for
five hundred and eight yards and eight touchdowns and a
sixty one to thirty four win. The eight passing touchdowns
is the second most in MHSAA history for a single game,
and the passing yardage is tied for thirteenth most in
a game. Carr added a rushing touchdown, making him accountable
(01:22:36):
for nine total tds in a game, which has only
been top three times in MHSAA history. Tight End Lincoln
Keys caught three of the touchdowns, and Carson Cherry and
Austin Abbott hauled in two each. Six of Carr's passing
tds came in the second half, a half that saw
Seleine come back from being eight down at halftime. The
win moves Salid into the number one spot on the
(01:22:57):
Division one playoff points list. Dexter is sixth in Division two,
and the day after the win, Carr's brother CJ led
Notre Dame to its first victory of the season. For
a look at the record book or the playoff points lists,
be sure to check out MHSAA dot com. It's time
for game balls when we highlight a trio of standout
performances from the past week. First, Okamas Sockers Carter Haremsky.
(01:23:22):
He scored twice in a three to two win over
Grand Ledge. Okamis is undefeated this year and has captured
an outright CAAC Blue title for the first time since
twenty nineteen. Gibralter Carlson tennis player Kyle Salisbury. He had
a straight sets win at number one singles, helping the
Marauders to a six to two team win over Trenton,
giving Trenton their first league loss this season, and to
(01:23:44):
the Marysville volleyball team, who knocked off Fraser in four
sets in a battle of MAC White Division unbeatens.
Speaker 9 (01:23:52):

Our Weekly be The Referee feature takes a look at
the fine art of officiating with Registered official Page Winning.
Speaker 10 (01:24:34):
We're on the volleyball court today and it's a tight rally.
In the third set. Team a's outside hitter digs up
a powerful spike and then her setter contacts the ball
a couple of times while trying to set it, and
then sends it back to the outside hitter, who's right
there to play it. As a referee, you might think
multiple contacts occurred, but thanks to the updated rule nine
dash foward dash eight C, because the ball was next
(01:24:56):
directed to a teammate, that second contact is legal and play.
We should continue on without a whistle. This rule explicitly
removes that judgment call when no advantage is gained, reducing
interruptions and coach official disputes. So in this scenario, you
let it ride. No call, no savage, just free flow
and fairness.
Speaker 8 (01:25:16):
Thanks Page, Now, more than ever we need officials. If
you're interested, please go to the MHSAA website now to register.
For the second year in a row, the mhsaa's Student
Advisory Council has recorded a message on sportsmanship.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
High school sports are meant to be fun.
Speaker 10 (01:25:34):
We love to represent our school and we care about
our sports.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
We know you do too, and because we all care,
it can sometimes get intense.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
So let's make the experience more fun for everyone. We
know it's easy to react and shout during games, but
we all make mistakes. The game is more enjoyable when
we hear positive cheering.
Speaker 5 (01:25:55):
Referees are human. Respect their decisions.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
They are perfect. When you feel like yelling, remember that
you represent our school.
Speaker 7 (01:26:02):
We want to win, but just remember to keep the
energy positive towards all.
Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
During the season, we spend a lot of time with
our coaches. They have a tough job.
Speaker 7 (01:26:11):
Please accept their decisions and be thankful for all the
time they devoted to making us better.
Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
Thank you for coming to our games always supporting this.
We could do without you.
Speaker 8 (01:26:21):
For more on this Student Advisory Council, or to see
or read their message on sportsmanship, please go to MHSAA
dot com. You've been listening to This week in High
School Sports powered by Michigan Student Aid, a production of
the MHSAA Network.
Speaker 5 (01:26:35):
Thanks for joining us. I'm John Ross. We'll be back
next week.
Speaker 2 (01:26:43):
Jason Hutton and Tom Kendra at West Donwald Stadium where
the hosts of Panthers lead grand Haven fourteen to ten
and a half on homecoming. This is the Preferred Auto
Dealer's halftime show, Preferred Auto Dealers. They are driving our community.
Time to take a look at the first half scoring
summary and it was the visiting Buccaneers who won the toss,
(01:27:04):
took the football to start the game and drove seventy
one yards to the West Oudawa fourteen yard line. Senior
kicker Will Plumber kicked a thirty one yard field goal
and Grand Haven would lead it three to zhing after
one quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
West Ottawa gets on the board on.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
A fourth and goal play. Junior quarterback Abel and Aya
hits senior h back Elijah Reynolds three yards for the
touchdown pass. Extra point from counter Vauk made it seven
to three West Ottawa. Then the Panther score again same
combination a Nyata Reynolds on a twenty four yard touchdown
pass after grand Haven had turned the football over on
downs at its own twenty eight yard line. Again, Bock
(01:27:40):
with the extra point made it fourteen to three.
Speaker 1 (01:27:42):
West Ottawa.
Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
Grand Haven getting its first touchdown with just two thirty
five to play before the half. Kb Cornstra with a
ten yard touchdown run extra point from Will Plumber made
it fourteen to ten and that's where we are at
the half. First half scoring summary brought to you by
Schaeffer Swartz. You don't pay unless they win. Time out
to take a look at our lake Shore Spotlight game tonight.
(01:28:06):
Orchard View at Miskiing and Catholic Central are very owned.
Scott de Camp standing by Live and he has this
report on the first twenty four minutes.
Speaker 6 (01:28:13):
Region reporting from Karen Stadium from a skiing Catholic Central
High School. It's a service professor game reporter Scott DeCamp
with a Lake Shore Spotlight game halftime report on one
oh seven mus. This report is presented by a service
professor eating cooling, plumbing and electrical, but fixing a snap.
It was a Kamari reach show in the first half,
as the orchard View sophomore quarterback put in his wheels
(01:28:34):
on display multiple plays and helping the Cardinals build a
twenty six to seven halftime lead. We're actually inside the
final minute of the first half right now. But Ree
sprung free for one hundred and thirty six yards and
three touchdowns on only six carries, scoring on runs of
twenty eight, eleven and seventy five yards. One play before
the seventy five yards scoring sprint, Rece returned to kick
(01:28:55):
off about eighty yards for a score, but it was
waved off by penalty. Chris Steely accounted for or reviews
of a touchdown on a thirty eight yard run. Nine
seconds into the second quarter. Mcc got on the board
four to twelve left in the first half. The senior
quarterback Body Zigmantowski scored on a nine yard keeper. The
pah was good, making it twenty twenty six to It
(01:29:15):
was nineteen to seven at that point, but then that's
when retripped off the big run again and it made
it twenty six to seven. Later tonight on the Meyer
High School Scoreboard show on one O seven ninety sixty one.
In the game, I have a detailed summary of this contest,
includes statistics in the naming of our healthcare associates, play
and Player of the game reporting from the Skiing Catholic
Central High School where Ort Review leads MCC twenty six
(01:29:37):
to seven, very late in the first half. It's a
service professor, game reporter Scott DeCamp.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Thanks Scott Boy Orchard View with Kamorrow, recent quarterback and
really coming on nice win last week, and now they
turnaround playing well still twenty four minutes to try to
steal up that second win. But the West Michigan Conference
always fascinating to watch, and we are certainly keep an
eye on that. Tonight's speeding which let's go to a
rapid radio scoreboard update.
Speaker 3 (01:29:59):
Yes, interesting games going on all around the area. Jay,
We'll start off in the ok Green where Muskegan has
really turned it on. It was a close game fourteen fourteen.
They've scored twice. Muskegan leads at Forest Hills Northern twenty
eight to fourteen. Much closer at Byron Center at the
half it's Byron Center fourteen, Mona Shores fourteen, So Byron
(01:30:21):
Center deceiving record at one in three. They're a pretty
good team. Rhyes, Puffer is on the road. They lead
Grand Rapids Union twenty to six at the half. Very
close game. Spring Lake was ahead of West Catholic. There's
still lead fourteen to thirteen. That game's in the third quarter.
At spring Lake, Fruitport twenty nine, Comstock Park nothing, oak Ridge,
(01:30:43):
no problem with Fremont twenty eight to nothing. It's Luddington
twenty one, Montague zero at the half, and this is
an interesting score. At Ravanna it's Mason County Central twelve,
Ravana nothing, so Scottville. Former Ravanna coach David Smith getting
the best of his alma maters are. It's a North Muskegan. Well,
(01:31:04):
I don't have to score there, but North Moskeigan leading heart.
Speaker 1 (01:31:07):
It's a Shelby twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:31:08):
Fourteen twelve, Okay, Shelby thirty six, Hespiria seven. And then
yeah they just orchard View twenty six Miskeigan Catholic seven.
Has Scott just reported?
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
How about this one? TK at the half? East Grand
Rapids three, North View nothing?
Speaker 1 (01:31:22):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
You know what I'm gonna say. Northfeu's got them right
where they want them right. Three of the four wins
this year, they've trailed at the half, trailing again at
the half. How many times can the Wildcats keep overcoming
these defins? There's only three, it's only three points, but
I'll tell about theast grind.
Speaker 1 (01:31:36):
Rapids defense is really good. How about this.
Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
We're in the ok RAD here tonight, West Ottawa fourteen,
grand Haven ten. We look around the ok RED East
Kent win leading Caledonia fourteen to six at the half,
Rockford leading Grandville fourteen nothing at the half. And how
about this one Hudsonville twenty eight Jennison zero at the half.
The Wildcats with fifteen total yards offense in the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Wow, Hudsonville, you know, coming back from making it all
the way to the state championship game, they're reloaded.
Speaker 1 (01:32:05):
I think they're the team to beat in the ok RED.
Speaker 2 (01:32:08):

on the preferred auto dealer's halftime show. When we come back,
we'll take a look at some of the first half stats.
It's West out of A fourteen and Grand Haven ten.
(01:32:30):
This is the MCU Lake Shore Game of the Week
on one oh seven m us. The most on a
homecoming at West Ottawa. It's the host Panthers leading grand
Haven fourteen to ten at the break. Jason Hutton and
Tom Kendrap live in the ok Red and time now
(01:32:52):
to take a look at some of the first half
stats with time kender Well Cayleb Montgomery.
Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
It was just a named homecoming king there the arting
running back for West Ottawa.
Speaker 1 (01:33:01):
So how about that?
Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
Looking at the stats here so far, west Ottawa's had
more yards through the air, grand Haven's.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Had more on the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
Looking at it first downs grand Haven with the edge
ten to six in that category, grand Haven sixteen rushes
for sixty three yards. Their leader on the ground it's
actually Lennon Jorgens and with the one run for thirty
three yards, kV Cornstrom has had a lot more carries
twelve carries for just twenty six yards. Of course, with
a ten yard touchdown run. West Ottawa ten rushers for
(01:33:35):
just twenty four yards, they haven't been able to get
anything going on the ground. Their leader is Jeremiah Edwards.
Six carries for fourteen yards. Through the air is where
both of these teams have done more damage. For grand Haven.
Junior quarterback Easton hints twelve of nineteen for seventy seven yards,
and the junior quarterback Abe and Aya for West Ottawa,
(01:33:57):
he is seven of thirteen for one hundred and twelve
yard cards including two touchdown passes to Elijah Reynolds and
the one interception. As we look down the stats a
little further here, just one turnover in this game. It
was the interception thrown by West Ottawa Grand Haven perfect,
no fumbles, no interceptions. Defensively for West Ottawa, the leader
(01:34:21):
there CJ. Traylor with five tackles from his outside linebacker position,
and then the defensive end Christian DeWitt.
Speaker 1 (01:34:28):
He's got three tackles. For Grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
Number fifty five, Jonah Brumer is the leader with the
three tackles. Carson tight Off from the senior safety spot.
Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
He's got two and a half stops.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
So that's where we sit West Ottawa fourteen and Grand
Haven ten at the break. It was the Buccaneers who
kind of controlled the first quarter. They got the opening kick,
drove down, kicked a field goal. But West Ottawa with
those two touchdowns that were just a couple of minutes apart,
he's kind of take retaking control of this game. Fourteen
ten at a halftime. Kendra how abouts Keys to the
(01:35:05):
second half tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:35:06):
Well, I think neither team has been able to run
the ball at all. I think whichever team is able
to establish some kind of running game is going to
win it. I look at Grand Haven, I think they
have to do what they did on that last drive.
I think that'll be the key for them, if they
use that pass to set up the run and not
the other way around. If they keep playing the way
they'd done that final drive, I think they got a
good chance to come back and win this game. Meanwhile,
(01:35:29):
for West Ottawa, you know, it just feels like abel
and I has just been a little bit off. He's
had receivers open. I think they need to stick with it.
They I think he's going to start completing some of
those passes down the field. I like them to complete
a couple of big passes in the second half and
try to win it that way.
Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
Keys to the Second Half brought to you by Vanderlin
Home Improvement With eighty years in the business, Vanderlin Home
Improvement offers top notch contractor services to customers in West
Michigan called six to six called six one, six eleven
eleven for more details or visit VanderLans dot com. We'st
out of a fourteen Grand Haven ten. We'll take a break.
(01:36:07):
We'll come back with the start of the second half.
This is the LMCU Lake Short Game of the Week
on one oh seven. M Us the Moose. We're getting
ready to start the second half here at West Outawa Stadium.
Panthers leading the visiting Grand Haven Buccaneers fourteen to ten
at the break West Outaway. He's going to get the
(01:36:28):
football to start the second half. We've just got about
thirty seconds before the second half starts Toime Ketner. Interesting
stuff you find when you're getting ready for a football game,
you know, grand Haven. This surprised me, you know, I
know they had some really good years under Mark Mike
Farley about twelve to fifteen years ago. Only made the
playoffs six times in school history, and all of them
coming after the playoffs expanded to thirty two in nineteen
(01:36:51):
ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
You know, interesting decision going way back for Grand Haven.
You know, they really wanted to be part of the
Okay Red you know, kind of breaking away from some
of the other Lake Shore teams, the Muskigan and Mona
Shores and Reese Puffer. I gotta believe they would probably
would have had a lot more success in terms of
making the playoffs playing Lake Shore teams more so than
the Okay read, they're in the elite conference and they
(01:37:13):
played the best competition.
Speaker 1 (01:37:15):
But it's not easy to win games.
Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
It's an interesting give and take. We're ready to go
here in the second half. Will Plumber kicking it low
line drive kick, it's gonna bounce it to twelve, kind
of all gonna pick it up in his own six
yard line, and he does good to get it back
over the fifteen to about the eighteen yard line before
Tanner Wolf brings him down. Good kick that time by
Plumber kind of kicked it to where nobody was and
it bounced a couple of times before Valk was able
(01:37:38):
to pick it up. So the Panthers get it first
and ten and they're gonna go to work here with
a fourteen to ten lead. It feels like grand Haven
kind of seized back some momentum there before the half,
but then he had the long break with homecoming. See
if grand Haven can keep it going with its defensive.
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
Unit here, Yeah, no question. It looked for a while
there like West audub was gonna run away with it.
They led fourteen to three, but grand Haven with a
nice job making some adjustments. Now it's west Otawa's turn
to make some adjustments.
Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
So it's Jeremiah Edwards and a running back, not the
homecoming King Caleb Montgomery. It's Edwards running right, getting nowhere.
I don't even think he got the line of scrimmage
Steele Bickley makes the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
It will be second down. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:38:16):
Neither of these teams doing anything on the ground, Jason,
I mean kV Cornstraw is averaging a little over two
yards of carry. Jeremiah Edwards even worse than that, less
than two yards of carry. So this is basically both
of these teams have been doing all of their damage
for the year.
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
So second down ten, no markt just short of the
twenty yard line. They get a heck of a spot
in that kick return, and it's gonna be Edwards and
Kennedy's gonna lose a couple of more yards. Excellent play
that time by Dawson Molter. Third down and twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:38:50):
Yeah that time.
Speaker 3 (01:38:51):
And also Jonah Bremer there the defensive end dragging him down.
Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
But great run defense. I mean there's just nothing doing.
Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
I guess that's when you playing the Oka Red you
got to learn how to stop the run, especially when
you play the Grandvills, the Hudson Vills, the Rockfords of
the world.
Speaker 1 (01:39:06):
And now all of a sudden, third and.
Speaker 2 (01:39:07):
Long, Jennison, I mean, Brody Skidaman is a load. I mean,
teams can run the football in the Okay RD, but
neither team has done it tonight. And this battle between
West doddawin Grand Haven third and long and I wants
to throw it and there's nobody out there, but we've
got a penalty flag. I wonder if we're gonna get
a pass interference call or something on the secondary of
Grand Haven. That pass was thrown out and it looked
(01:39:30):
like Quentin Edwards ran in. So there was no one
anywhere near where that one was thrown.
Speaker 1 (01:39:35):
Defense.
Speaker 3 (01:39:41):
Wow, that's a gift for West Ottawa because there was
nobody within ten yards of that pass.
Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
Now we do have to remember in high school football
is uncatchable does not exist. They don't call they don't
pick up pass interference calls because the pass is uncatchable.
No question, that was uncatchable, But that's not a thing
in high school football, So the passer it goes against
Grand Haven first down and ten West Ottawa as they
have it on their own thirty three and the game
(01:40:08):
is gonna be to the homecoming King. Caleb Montgomery over
right guard, left guard, and he's out to the forty
seven yards on first down for KILEB Montgomery.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Wow, that's about the one of the best runs of
the entire game.
Speaker 1 (01:40:19):
A seven yard gain.
Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
But they're still not going away from that run completely.
Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
Ferguson Reynolds Gill trips to the left, but they're gonna run.
Montgomery's got a first down out to the forty four
yard line. Four more for Kiln Montgomery and the Panthers
all of a sudden running the ball a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:40:37):
Yeah, they're going with a little tempo here, trying to
speed things up a little bit. That's gonna be a
story in this game. You know, it's still warm here
at the end of September. Close game. Which team is
in the better shape in the fourth quarter, could be
end up being the winner.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
And I end the gun with Montgomery next to him,
trips to the left and it's gonna be an Iowa
time wants to go deep looking for Quentin Reynolds and
it's incomplete, good coverage that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
Time from Ryan Moore. Yeah, you know, doesn't get tired.
And I'm looking across at all those hundreds of kids
back there playing soccer. You know, they come to these
football games and they just go over there and play soccer.
I don't see any of them playing football though, Jay,
that's a problem.
Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
Incredible set up here at West Otto. We've got this
beautiful stadium, no track, which is huge, and then directly
to the east, pardon me, directly to the east is
the soccer stadium, so we can overlook the soccer stadium,
the lights around there. That's a wonderful setup too. Probably
one hundred kids over there playing soccer. And now we're
getting an offsides call on grand Haven. Boy, that's another
(01:41:40):
big penalty because if you get the incomplete pass on
first down, you get him behind the chains a little bit.
But second and ten becomes second and five.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
Again, we mentioned for both of these teams one of
the keys to the game who is gonna limit their penalties,
limit their mistakes, and.
Speaker 1 (01:41:57):
That was certainly a mistake by Grand Haven.
Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
Jason Diaz Dalleone and Jonah Bremer are the defensive ends
for Grand Haven. It's second down and five for West
Ottawa Panthers, having on their own forty nine. They fake
to give to Montgomery and I is gonna run it.
He's into Grand Haven territory and he's inside the forty
yard line. Fourteen yards for Abel and Iya the junior
who's finally brought down at the Grand Haven thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
Yeah, that time a great read there by an eye
I saw, kept it himself and just ran around that
left side.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
Good blocking up front. Uh, let me see.
Speaker 3 (01:42:30):
Trevor Luhman is over there on the left side and
Owen's a done.
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
There goes an eye again on first and ten. He's
got seven more, give him eight to the twenty nine.
It's interesting. West Oudawa well known for their RPO game
where Anaya can either decide to hand it off for
the running back or pull it and throw. Those last
two players were read option right. He's either gonna hand
it off or run it himself. Both times he ran
it himself and he's got a bunch of yards. And
(01:42:55):
now Grand Haven's gonna call time out. They're gonna try
to put a pin in this West Outawa momentum because
the Panthers are moving it and on the grounds.
Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
Yeah, that last play the wabele and I came up
limping favoring that that right leg here, so hopefully he'll
shake that off.
Speaker 2 (01:43:09):
You know, it's interesting when you talk about the quarterback
position at West Ottawa, right. Obviously the quarterback position is
so valuable to any football team. Two years ago they
didn't necessarily have a quarterback. So Connor Napp, unbelievable athlete,
played wide receiver on varsity as a sophomore, becomes the
quarterback right plays his junior year, hadn't really played the position,
(01:43:30):
just a really good athlete. Last year they bring him
back as a senior, he's the quarterback. And then, you know,
I had heard Pat Collins. He didn't say this to me,
but I heard him say that on a podcast somewhere.
He said, I don't know if it was my smartest
decision putting the best wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (01:43:41):
I ever had at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:43:43):
Well, last year they in the middle of the year
they ended up moving in back to wide receiver. Played
as sophomore, Makai Campos at quarterback. Campos a talented kid
in the twenty twenty seven class. Well, Campos a really
good basketball player not playing football this year. So now
you go to abel and Aya, they just have a
lot of really good athletes, but kids, and you don't
get a lot of continuity at that position. I tell you,
and I think has is doing well. It has a
(01:44:05):
right future.
Speaker 1 (01:44:06):
Yeah, next year he could be he could be great.
Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
Because when Pat Collins has a good quarterback, when he
had Cody Cater, when he had his son Drew Collins,
he won state championships.
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
Second down three West Ottawa from the twenty nine yard line,
second and two, and and I is going to give
it to Montgomery this time, trying to run left, and
he's gonna get the corner and get the first down.
Pushed out of bounds in the twenty six but there's
a penalty flag at the thirty yard line with this
stop this generally we'll go against the offense and it
(01:44:36):
may nullify a West Oudawa first down. Nice tib by
Montgomery that time he got the corner. Didn't necessarily look
like it was going to be there, but there may
be a reason he was able to get it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
Yeah, Montgomery not a big speed guy, but he had
just enough to turn the corner that time.
Speaker 2 (01:44:57):
Yep, they are calling holding on West Ottawa. So instead
of first and tendeth to twenty six, I believe we're
going to get second down and twelve from the thirty
nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
Quick scoreboard update Byron Center has scored again.
Speaker 1 (01:45:15):
Jay.
Speaker 3 (01:45:16):
They lead Mona Shores twenty one to fourteen in the
third quarter. Muskegan thirty four to fourteen over Forest Fields.
Northern Clock resumes to run after the balls. Mark ready
to play nine to seventeen to play in the third quarter. Well,
I's thought of leaving fourteen to ten, and I wanted
to throw on second at twelve. He's got to complete
(01:45:36):
the Quentin Edwards at the Grand Haven twenty four yard line.
Give him fifteen yards on west side of a first down.
The key on that play, Jason, plenty of time for
an eye at a throw. Give some credit to the
guys up front, the young offensive line. Ellen Boss and
Luman are the tackles, Za Dune and Carrier are the guards,
and Daniel Rodriguez the center.
Speaker 1 (01:45:58):
Plenty of time for a Maya throw. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
I want to give a shout out to Danie Rodriguez.
You know, Isaiah Rodriguez had played the first four games
at center. He's now playing more defense. Daniel stepping in
there and he's doing a nice job. And here's the pass.
On first down, they tried to hit the wide receiver
screen to Quinton Edwards. Ball delivered low. Edward's unable to
handle it. It's incomplete. It'll be second and ten.
Speaker 3 (01:46:16):
Good pressure that time up the middle from Tyrell Winners,
number sixty, the defense senior defensive tackle for Grand Haven.
Speaker 1 (01:46:23):
He's played a heck of a game, Jason.
Speaker 3 (01:46:25):
He was instrumental on that goal line stand they had earlier.
Speaker 1 (01:46:29):
And he's a he's.
Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
Got good size and athletic ability for a defensive tackle.
Speaker 7 (01:46:34):
Four.
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
Second and ten and n Ia with Montgomery next to him,
and he's gonna give it to the homecoming king who's
inside the twenty. It pushes his way down to the
eighteen yard line, gain of six.
Speaker 1 (01:46:44):
It'll set up third down and four.
Speaker 2 (01:46:46):
Levi Tubergan, the Buccaneers leading tackler in the season, makes
the stop.
Speaker 3 (01:46:51):
Yeah, now you know the defense gets a little bit
worn down. There's just a just a touch more room.
We're starting to see them run the ball effectively. After
ending the first half with only twenty six rushing yards.
Speaker 2 (01:47:04):
This drive now three minutes and thirty five seconds long.
This will be the eleventh playout of it. Anaya has
trouble with the snat. Now he rolls left. He's got
a complete to Reynolds. Reynolds at the ten, Reynolds dives
touchdown West Ottawa for the third time tonight. It's able
an Ayah to Elijah Reynolds and the Panthers have double
uped the Buccaneers with a fifteen to play in the
second quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:47:24):
Wow, as Elijah Reynolds has come back with a vengeance
and he's been the key to this game. That's his
third touchdown reception of the game. That time it was
a broken play. It was actually a fumbled snap, but
Anaya picked it up, just flipped it out there on
the left flank to Reynolds and he did the rest
diving into the end zone and West Ottawi stends its lead.
Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
Connor Vauk is in to attempt the extra point kick
is no good, but we have got a penalty flag.
Let's check the flag. The kick was missed, but they
may get another shot at this and Amani Frarson is
down at the goal line for Grand Haven. Looks like
he's reaching for that left calf, so We've got to
(01:48:11):
sort all this out. It's West Outawa twenty, Grand Haven ten.
They just scored on the fourteen yard pass from Abel
Anaya to Elijah Reynolds, the third time those two is
hooked up for a score. Tony and now West thought
it was running off the field. So it looks like
this extra point is going to be no good.
Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Hopefully for Irison Is.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
Hopefully it's just a cramp because Grand Haven can't afford
any more injuries to their skill kids.
Speaker 2 (01:48:38):
No, we are going to have another try. They called
a personal foul block below the waist on the on
Grand Haven.
Speaker 1 (01:48:46):
I wonder if Pat Collins will opt to go for
two here.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
Yeah, they're moving from the three to the one and
a half. I'd kick because I don't know the difference
been being up eleven and twelve, and I thought it
has not ran the football well in sure yarded situation
all year. I'd kick. I'm sitting up here, I'm not
a football coach.
Speaker 3 (01:49:04):
Well, yeah, but you know a lot about football, I
will say that. But they have her on the ball
a lot better on this drive, and they seem to
be maybe wearing down the defensive front a little bit
of Grand Aven, so it'll be interesting to see what
they what they decide to do.
Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
So that imani able nay a touchdown pass to Elijah
Reynolds is another fifty dollars for kids Food Basket. It
puts us at two hundred dollars just for the game tonight.
A whole bunch of money coming in though, because over
at ninety six point won the game. They had five
first half touchdowns between Holland and Belding, was Belding up
thirty to seven. LMCU is donating fifty dollars for every
(01:49:46):
touchdown this regular season in the Game of the Week on
LMCU on one oh seven m us and ninety six
point one. The game.
Speaker 3 (01:50:02):
One interesting score. I just stumbled across Jy. How about
a Battle Creek Harper Creek thirty, Kennella Hills seven. Yeah,
so the unbeaten Kennewall Hills looks like they're gonna be
a going down to their first loss.
Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
The Beavers are good, man, I'm telling you, Mason Convererce
has got a squad.
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
They lost one game at Cedar Springs in Week two,
thirty one to twenty one. But they are tough, all right.
The West Outaway is gonna go for two here after
the penalty on Grand Haven. So and I is in
the gun with Caleb Montgomery next to him, and they're
gonna run the reverse to CJ. Trailer is gonna walk in.
They ran the reverse. It's not technically reverse because there's
(01:50:39):
only one handoff end around. It wasn't a jet sweep
because Trailer came a little bit orbit on the motion
and he's in for the score. So the two point
conversion makes it West Ottawa twenty two, Grand Haven ten,
with eight minutes and fifteen seconds to play in the
third quarter. That West Outawa scoring drive certainly a candidate
for our Betton Chevrolet Buick GMC drive the game. Eleven
(01:51:01):
plays eighty yards able and Aya to Elijah Reynolds fourteen
yard touchdown pass and the two point conversion run by CJ.
Trailer makes it West out Of twenty two and Grand
Haven ten. Now, Tom Kender, the Bucks are gonna get
the football back. It'll be the first time they have
the football here in the second half. And they're down.
Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
Two touchdowns because a touchdown in the field goal won't
be good enough.
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
What do they have to do?
Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
Well, it's just like it was a similar situation there
in the second quarter. They were down fourteen to three,
and it looked like all the momentum and all the
momentum was with the hosts, and they came down and
had their most impressive drive of the game. Six plays,
fifty five yards and they score a touchdown. So that's
really what they need to do. They need to find
a way to answer back. But you know they've been
(01:51:46):
doing it by their short passing game.
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
Hey, we were talking about Connor Napp just a minute ago.
He's in the box. He's in the West Sido of
Coaches box right next to us, now playing at Hope College.
What a player. He was wearing fifteen for West Ottawa
the last three seasons on varsity. All right, we're set
to go eight to fifteen to play in the third quarter.
Griffin Dodd is gonna kick it deep kV Coornstra waits
(01:52:11):
back at his own ten yard line, low line drive
kick Cornscher will get it now, He's gonna let it
go and goes out of bounds. Smart play by Cornscher
goes out of bounds and the Bucks will get to
start from their own thirty five yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:52:22):
All Right, let's see what Grand Haven can do. That
was exactly what Pat Collins, I'm sure was talking to
his team about at halftime. We're gonna get the kickoff
in the second half, let's take it down and score
and retake control of this game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:35):
And they do it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
Eleven plays, eighty yards, the third touchdown hookup of the
night between Abel and Aya and Elijah Reynolds. But now
it's Grand Haven's turn to answer here, let's see what
the young Bucks can do.
Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
Well, what they were able to do in that second
quarter was go empty right, no running back, quick passing
game with easton hints. And then what I also think
they can do out of this is they can run
hints because now you got five, you got the defense
spread out absolutely, and that's what we'll see here. On
first intent, five wide trips to the wide side left
for Hints, who's got Conda rad Key and Jorgenson. That way,
(01:53:11):
Cornsch goes in motion and they're gonna go to the
short side. Colin Munford on the quick pass, he's over
the forty to the forty one yard line, so six
yards on the quick short pass from Hints to Colin Munford.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
Yeah, again, this offense looks so much better, Jay when
they go empty like that and when they kind of
let hints free wheel it a little bit, and you're right,
that's the final the final thing.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
If there's if you can't.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
Find anybody, he is very effective at tucking it and running,
and especially when the defense is a little bit tired.
Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
So Kanda, rat Key and Jorgenson once again formed trips
to the wide side left, Cornstra and Munford to the
short side right hints on the quarterback draw. Well, West
thought of what was all over it? They were waiting
for him that time. Caleb Morley, the big senior defensive tackle.
They were thinking like.
Speaker 1 (01:53:59):
Us, I thought the quarterback draw would be there and
it was not. Yeah, that time.
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
There's just some big bodies there in the middle of
that West Ottawa defensive front, none bigger than Caleb Morley there.
He's done a great job in the middle against the
run that time on the quarterback keeper he was there
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Morley is right next to Isaiah Rodriguez on the defensive
line as the two guys with their hands in the
dirt metaphorically speaking. And first Isaiah Rodriguez played a lot
of center the first four weeks but doing an job
on defense. Now Hints wants to throw third down. He's
got a complete the jorgan said, first down out to
the forty eight. He got nine yards on third and six,
(01:54:39):
and the Grand Haven offense stays on the field, which
is much needed, as the Bucks trail by twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:54:44):
Yeah, Easton Hints has fifteen completions tonight. I would say
about twelve of them are on that same just a
quick like curl route where the receiver is just finding
a soft spot in the secondary turning and Hints is
delivering it on the money. And that was a great
play on third down to pick it up.
Speaker 2 (01:55:03):
Six minutes thirty three seconds to play third quarter. Grand
Haven with the ball for the first time in the
second half. They trail west A Outawa twenty two to ten.
It's homecoming for the Panthers. Conda, Radkey and Jorgensen. The
trips to the white side left. They're gonna go wide
receiver screen to Amani Fryarson, who's got a first down
in more he's inside the west Audowa forty all the
way down to the thirty eight yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
It's fourteen yards for.
Speaker 3 (01:55:24):
The Bucks and it's again it's getting these guys in space.
Speaker 1 (01:55:27):
Imani for Iris in the junior that time. You know
he was a one.
Speaker 3 (01:55:32):
If he could have slipped one tackle, he could have
gone the distance there. So I really like what the
Bucks are doing offensively here. They're getting their guys out
in space.
Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
If you're West Ottawa, you're up twelve, you want to
keep everything in front of you. And that's what we
talked about in the first half. The short, quick passing
game is working for grant Haven. But if you're West
Ottawa and you're playing on this two score lead, you're
okay keeping it in front of you. I don't think
there's there's anything wrong with that. I for the Panthers,
that's right first and.
Speaker 1 (01:55:58):
Ten hints the gun empty set and his pass is
going to be incomplete.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
He was looking for Ramani Fryarson. Friarson was interfered with
by Quentin Edwards. The pass almost hit him in the helmet,
but he wasn't ready for it because he had been
grabbed and pulled down by Edwards. It'll be a past
interference call on West Ottawa.
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
Yeah, easy call there.
Speaker 3 (01:56:17):
For the official he got he got completely spun around.
It would have been something to people have came back
and grabbed that ball and taken off running with it.
But as it turns out, the Bucks will certainly take
this penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
We do have one final in the ok Read tonight
Hudsonville beats Jennison forty two to nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:56:41):
Well running clock, I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
And that's I mean that it's a rivalry night and
the Okay Red. That's the best rivalry of the four.
Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
And I don't think anyone thought it was going to
be that one sided.
Speaker 2 (01:56:52):
I certainly did not. Five forty four hints on first down.
Wants to run again? Nowhere to go? This time it's
Alex Carrier, Ryan Montgomery also in their short gain maybe
a yard for hints that quarterback draft second time in
this drive. Neither team, neither time has it gone anywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
No, but I know what grand Haven is thinking.
Speaker 3 (01:57:11):
If he if he can get past those that initial
those initial defensive tackles, there's nobody there. I mean, he
could get ten yards pretty easily. But got to give
credit to those big guys up front again, Caleb Morley,
Alex Carrier doing a nice job keeping hints in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
This time, Radkey's gonna be the h back on the left.
Side of the formation of Cordster lines up in the backfield,
Lennon Jorgensen is gonna go in motion and we're gonna
get a whistle. Well, we've got an illegal procedure penalty
against grant Haven and now it becomes second and fifteen.
Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
Yeah, I think I.
Speaker 3 (01:57:49):
Think they said they had two players in motion at
the same time on that on that play. But again,
those are those are the mistakes that have killed the
Bucks this season and to cost some critical five yards
right there, pick Herey.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
Knight and Lowell Cedar Springs twenty eight, Lowll twenty one.
In the third quarter, Coopersville's leading Greenville thirty five to
seven after three. I always appreciate my people who are
at games sending me scores.
Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
Yeah, you've got a lot of people out there too, Jay.
Speaker 1 (01:58:20):
Most of them are related to me.
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
Hints back to pass. Now he's going to roll left
and throw complete to Lennon Jorgensen, who's going to step
out inside the thirty eight. About the twenty eight, he's
very close to a first down. I think he's got it.
Speaker 1 (01:58:37):
No, that's a that's just back to the original line
of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
I was looking at the wrong stick but what I
do without your TK. So it's third and ten, definitely
four down territory. I for you're Grandaven, th while you're
down twelve, you're on the plus twenty eight, no question.
If you're Matt Nobbery, you got two plays to get this.
Friarson and cons just put out wide left, Jorgensen, Radkey
(01:59:02):
and Conda to the right. They're gonna throw Cornstra on
the cross or he's got a first down him more.
Speaker 1 (01:59:06):
He's down to the fifteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:59:09):
Boy, that's so tough to defend in man coverage. Cornster
with the speed excellently job by hints and it's a
thirteen yard game.
Speaker 3 (01:59:16):
That was a great play call by grand Haven in
perfect execution. You know, I was just gonna say, you know,
with this change in offense for grand Haven, all of
a sudden, Kav Cornster wasn't getting the ball and then
they got him the ball at a critical time there
and Grand Haven, I'm impressed they answered in the first
half when they got down big and they're answering here.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
So cornstre and Friarson will go out to the wide
side left, Jorgensen, Radkey and Conda trips to the whiteside
right hints throwing for Conda in the end.
Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
Zone, caught touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:59:50):
Easton hints to Samir Conda and Grand Haven pulls within six.
Speaker 3 (01:59:56):
Wow, beautiful that time Conda. Samir Conda's another junior that
we don't talk a lot about. Amani Frierson gets a
lot of the attention, but that time, single coverage out
there and he just threw it up for the big
junior and Conda with good concentration there coming down with
it in the end zone. Impressive answer Jay by Grand Haven.
(02:00:18):
They're right back in it.
Speaker 2 (02:00:19):
Well, that's the other thing that short passing game does, right.
It gives you a chance to take a shot and
that shot results in a touchdown. Will Plumber's extra points blocked?
It is blocked. And these things become so huge in
these close games. And each team has scored a touchdown
in this third quarter and missed an extra point. Our
score remains West Dottaw a twenty two, Grand Haven sixteen.
(02:00:40):
Will step aside. We'll come back with a kickoff. This
is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week. I
won a seven mus the Moose. Tonight's third quarter being
brought to you by Shy Plumber Heating and cooling. When
(02:01:01):
there's trouble in the air, count on us to be
there for you, shy plumbing, heating and cooling. We have
four minutes, twelve seconds to play in the third quarter.
Grand Haven has just scored on a fifteen yard touchdown
pass from Easton Hints to Samir Conda, and our score
is West Ottawa twenty two, Grand Haven sixteen. Jason and
(02:01:22):
Tom Kendra back at West out of a stadium. Here
comes an onside kick from the Bucks. It's bouncing, it's
rolling around, and I think Grand Haven's got it.
Speaker 1 (02:01:28):
Their sideline certainly thinks they do.
Speaker 2 (02:01:30):
It was an excellent kick by Will Plumber and an
excellent timing. Grand Haven's got it at the West out
of a forty nine yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:01:38):
What a turn of events.
Speaker 3 (02:01:39):
Wow, what a great call by Andrew beaden Bender to
go with the onside kick and keep the ball and
keep the momentum. I didn't see who came up with
that for grand Haven. They the ball was up in
the air for a while and someone from grand Haven
went up and got it and won a turn of
events for grand Haven trailing here twenty two to sixteen.
(02:02:02):
But now they have the ball and a chance to
go down and take the lead grand Haven.
Speaker 2 (02:02:13):
So grand Haven's got the football on the west out
of a forty nine yard line. After the on side
kick and all the momentum down six, Hans wants to
go deep, taking a shot looking for Friarson and just
overthrown barely excellent coverage of that time by counter Valk.
They were trying to get Friarson. I love that call.
(02:02:33):
Sudden change, take a shot but incomplete.
Speaker 3 (02:02:36):
Yeah, and those two they got quite a connection. They've
been doing it for years. Easton Hintson Amani Frarson. That
time he threw it all the way across the field,
high up in the air. Frarson just couldn't get under
it quite enough. Brings up second down, So.
Speaker 2 (02:02:54):
West out got the football to start the second half
of four. They drove the link to the field and
scored extra point.
Speaker 1 (02:02:59):
No good.
Speaker 2 (02:02:59):
They're at twenty two to ten. Grand Haven gets the football,
drives the links of the field, scores extra point block
and then the on side kick. Now second and ten
for the Bucks down six. Hints wants to throw. He's
got a caught to cornstra inside the thirty five cornstraw
on his feet at the twenty five, draggling, dragging tacklers
to the twenty two.
Speaker 1 (02:03:15):
It's twenty nine yards and.
Speaker 2 (02:03:17):
The buccaneer student section is loving it on the far side.
Speaker 3 (02:03:20):
While they sure are that time they just slipped cornstraw
right up the seam, as they call it. And I
tell you he's more than just speed, isn't he? kV Cornstra.
He showed some strength, dragging tacklers with him all the
way down almost to the twenty yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
So they'll go first and ten on the west out
of a twenty two. Grand Haven looking to pull even
and perhaps take a lead if Theyn get in the
end zone, hints with the empty set, wants to go
deep incomplete looking for Luke Gradkeys h back at the
three yard line, gonna be second out.
Speaker 1 (02:03:53):
Looks like they're gonna get Grand Haven for a holding there.
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
I don't see a flat. Oh it's way back at
the line of scrimmage. You pointed, and I looked everywhere
and I couldn't find it.
Speaker 3 (02:04:04):
Those those eyes are getting old, Jay, you might need.
Speaker 1 (02:04:07):
Glasses like me.
Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
So holding on grand Haven and put the ball back
to the thirty two yard line. It'll be first in
twenty from the thirty two.
Speaker 1 (02:04:22):
Again.
Speaker 3 (02:04:22):
But right now, with the the way this Bucks offense
is going, they're they're not as concerned with the yardage
to go as to what down it is. They're uh,
they've shown on these last couple of drives then they
can get yards and bunches.
Speaker 2 (02:04:38):
Luca Hearne has two touchdown runs rock for Leeds Grandville
twenty one nothing after three quarters first and twenty hints
out of the gun under pressure lets it go in
complete looking for Lennon Jorgensen, but he just had to
get rid of that because of the pressure that was
provided by Griffin Dodd. It'll be second in twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:04:56):
Again, they've every time he dropped straight back, they've gotten
great coverage on him and forcing him to get rid
of it a little sooner than he wanted to before
Jorgensen really got open. But this has really turned into
the Eastern Hint show, this Grand Haven offense, and they've
ever since they've gone to that five wide empty set,
(02:05:19):
they've really looked better.
Speaker 2 (02:05:20):
Unied Christian Leeds Forestal Central forty five to sixteen. Third quarter,
Still there, three thirty two to play in our third quarter.
West Thought will leads Grandaven twenty two to sixteen. Hints
complete the corn strat the thirty five cornstraw down close
to the thirty yard line. Excuse me, the twenty yard line.
They need the twelve for a first down. It's going
to bring up third down and eight after the game
(02:05:41):
of twelve in the pass from Junior Easton Hints to
Junior kV Cournstra.
Speaker 3 (02:05:47):
Yeah, I believe, and I believe. Unity trailed sixteen to
nothing in that game. I think they've scored forty five
points in.
Speaker 1 (02:05:53):
A row in that game. That's a it's a Craig
Tibby does a great job. Unity Christian.
Speaker 3 (02:05:59):
They're a team not many people were talking about early
in the season, before the season, but wow, there got
it rolling again.
Speaker 2 (02:06:11):
So third down to eight, big play, Hints has trips
to the left. He's looking that way now, he's fleshed
out and he's gonna roll. We got holding on Grand Haven.
Hints is gonna run for the first down and he's
gonna be out of bounds at the six. But there
was an obvious hold as West Ottawa came right through.
So the fourteen yard game will not stand. Now it's
gonna be third down and eighteen for Grand Haven.
Speaker 1 (02:06:34):
Yeah. An easy call there.
Speaker 3 (02:06:35):
Like you said, it's too bad because yeah, Hints was
out in the open again when he gets out there.
I mean, he is such a great runner with the ball,
he would have picked up that first down. So I
wouldn't be surprised if they go back to that same
play here again, roll him out and give him the
option to let him run it.
Speaker 2 (02:06:54):
There have been a ton of penalties in this game, TK,
and a lot more on Grand Haven than on West Donawa.
Speaker 1 (02:07:00):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
Yeah, especially here in the second half. Grand Haven is
really starting to rack up the penalties.
Speaker 1 (02:07:07):
At the end of the.
Speaker 3 (02:07:07):
Quarter here, we'll take a look at the total penalties.
Speaker 1 (02:07:11):
It's not pretty.
Speaker 2 (02:07:13):
Three minutes seventeen seconds to play in our third Stanza,
grand Haven has the football third and eighteen from the
West Addawa thirty. They need the twelve. Pants is going
for it all. He's looking for Conda whos get it
out of his hands. In the end zone, Samir kind
of had a shot at it. I thought he cleared
some space on Connor Vauk, who was in good position.
There is no flag, but the ball did fall incomplete.
Speaker 1 (02:07:33):
Yeah. I was gonna say the exact same thing.
Speaker 3 (02:07:35):
I got away with a little Conda got away with
a little push off. There was no flag, so if
he would have caught it, it would have stood as a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (02:07:43):
But maybe that's a little karma there.
Speaker 3 (02:07:45):
You know, he got away with it and therefore he didn't
come up with the touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:07:49):
Pat Collins saw what we saw, because he's asking the
side judge right now, what's the deal. He got an explanation.
He seemed to like it. It is fourth and eighteen
and Granhaven's certainly going to go for it on the
West Outawa thirty. But now you can't. You probably can't
throw those little crossing routes or those little bubble screens.
Speaker 3 (02:08:07):
You need eighteen, that's right. Yeah, fifteen's not enough here.
You need all of it here. On fourth down, fourth.
Speaker 2 (02:08:13):
And eighteen, West Otawa a chance to make a huge stop.
After the Bucks recovered an on sidekick, hints out of
the gun, empty set, wants to roll right, throws back
across his body, incomplete. He was trying to get it
to Luke Radkey at the seventeen yard line, but it bounces.
It's incomplete. Really tough to throw across your body, and
the West Outaway defense gets a big time stop.
Speaker 1 (02:08:31):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 3 (02:08:32):
That was a huge play by Grand Haven after the
touchdown to go for the onside kick and get it.
And then yeah, west Ottawa's defense needed to do something
and they.
Speaker 1 (02:08:42):
Got the stop. So yeah, West Ottawa hasn't had the
ball in a long time.
Speaker 3 (02:08:46):
Jay, their offense is finally gonna come back out here
with three minutes to go in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:08:53):
But yeah, still very good game here.
Speaker 3 (02:08:57):
Both both offenses are showing flashes of brilliant So see
who can get it done here in the final fifteen minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:09:03):
And we see Chris Broncourse has checked in the game
at wide receiver for West Outawa. He's part of trips
to the wide side right with Ferguson and Elijah Reynolds
and they're gonna run able. And I at the quarterback
who just slides down right at the original line of scrimmage.
Oh my goodness, they're gonna spot I mean he started
his slide at the thirty They're gonna spot this thing
(02:09:24):
across the thirty one, close to the thirty two yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:09:27):
You don't get where you finished your slide? I think
you get where he started it?
Speaker 3 (02:09:31):
Yeah, I would think, Yeah, that's where you're down, but
nonetheless we move forward.
Speaker 2 (02:09:37):
Clock runs two thirty nine to play third quarter. West
Audawa has the football and the lead twenty two to sixteen.
A Naya out of the gun, fakes to give to Edwards,
throws complete two, Elijah Renolds first down over the forty
out to the forty two ten yards. What a connection
able and Iya to Elijah Reynolds has been tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:09:54):
Yeah, that's been. That's been the story for west Audawa.
Three touchdown passes. That one just a little pop pass
over the middle into a lot of traffic really, but
once he had it, he almost was able to break
out into the open.
Speaker 2 (02:10:06):
And what more can you say about Elijah Reynolds. I mean,
dude is not only is he legit, I mean he's
a Central Michigan commit, but dude's playing through an injury,
a labram injury which can be painful. And on first
and ten, west Otawa runs Jeremiah Edwards right up the middle,
but having none of it was Chase duster Winkle, the
big junior wearing sixty six, got him for a loss.
Speaker 1 (02:10:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:10:28):
I've been impressed with duster Winkle and some of these
other defensive linemen for Grand Haven We've said Tyrell winners
a bunch of times.
Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
Jonah Brumer, I want to know where Duster, Winkle and
Withers have been because I watched every Grand Haven game
and I didn't see those guys the first four weeks
of the season. Here's Jeremiah Edwards bouncing off a defender,
gets it out across the forty five to the forty six.
It's gonna set up third down and six.
Speaker 1 (02:10:52):
Yeah, who knows.
Speaker 3 (02:10:52):
We've talked a lot about the injuries that Grand Haven
has had at the skill positions, you know, with Andrew
Williamson and then hints sing a game and a half.
Speaker 1 (02:11:01):
You know, maybe some of those injuries have been up
front and.
Speaker 3 (02:11:04):
Those guys are just getting back into the regular rotation.
Speaker 2 (02:11:07):
Well. The other thing is Calvin Brunsting has been the
nose tackle for this team. He's now filling in it
left guard because of the injury injury to Carson Hardy.
Third down and I is gonna run it, and Levi
Tubergan's got him after a gain of about two.
Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
It's fourth and four.
Speaker 2 (02:11:21):
West Otawa TK has it on their own forty eight
with one minute to go in the third quarter, up six.
Speaker 1 (02:11:26):
I bet they'll go for it. I bet you they
will too.
Speaker 3 (02:11:29):
Pat Collins has always been known as a riverboat gambler
way back in as a in his Montague days, and
I don't think that's changed much here Again, what do
you do here? I think you put it in the
hands of your junior quarterback. Let him run it for
the first down, and I and the.
Speaker 2 (02:11:48):
Gun on fourth and four fakes to give to Jeremy Edwards.
Now he wants to run it.
Speaker 1 (02:11:52):
He's hit and he stopped.
Speaker 2 (02:11:54):
He got a cross midfield of the forty nine, but
he's gonna be a yard shy of the first town
Levi two, Luke Radkey, and grand Haven's gonna get the
football back in excellent field position.
Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
Wow, what a what a huge stop there.
Speaker 3 (02:12:09):
It looked like initially that Anaia wanted to throw that ball,
but his receiver was either not in the right place
or well covered. I wasn't able to tell. So he
decided to try to do it with his feet. And
grand Haven's defense. You mentioned him, Levi Tubergen, the ringleader
in the middle and coming up making the initial hit,
(02:12:29):
and a couple others Carson tight Off and some others,
And a huge stop there.
Speaker 1 (02:12:35):
For Grand Haven. They got a chance to go back
and take the lead. Thirty one seconds to play in
the third quarter, and they're gonna run cornstraw just nowhere
to go, nowhere to go that time for kV Corenstro
to be second down and ten, and that's likely the
final play of the third quarter with twenty seconds left.
Speaker 3 (02:12:51):
Yeah, again we keep saying his name, Caleb Morley. I
mean they he's just a dominating the middle of the line.
Grand have I think coming in they thought they could
run it up the middle, but this defensive line for
West Ouda was dominating and.
Speaker 2 (02:13:08):
That will indeed be the final play of the third
quarter after thirty six minutes. Our score West Ottawa twenty two,
Grand Haven sixteen. But the Bucks have got it near midfield.
This is going to be a fun fourth quarter and
we'll call it for you right here on one oh
seven mus the Moose they owned Sea Lake Shore. Game
of the Week Jason and Tob Kendra at West Audawa
(02:13:31):
Stadium a TK. We thought coming in that this was
going to be a battle and an even football game
and entertaining football game, and we have not been disappointed
through three quarters. West Oudawill Leeds Grand Haven twenty two
to sixteen, and the Bucks have the ball edit their
own forty nine airline to start the fourth quarter. This
one's going to come right down to it.
Speaker 3 (02:13:48):
Yeah, and how about Grand Haven's defense that time? You know,
I thought they looked really tired on that opening drive
of the second half by West Ottawa, but digging in
and getting a fourth down stop there, that was huge
complimentary football.
Speaker 1 (02:14:02):
They call it the defense picking up the offense.
Speaker 3 (02:14:05):
And now the offense being handed the ball here right
near midfield with a golden opportunity.
Speaker 2 (02:14:11):
So second and ten, Hints empty set wants to throw,
has time, he's got a complete to Chornstra. He's out
at the forty five of West Ottawa six yard game.
It'll be third and four.
Speaker 3 (02:14:23):
Well, you know, Hints has been very accurate. Jay, that
left handed, left handed thrower. That wasn't an easy pass
to complete. That was a right at the sidelines. Put
it right on the money for Cornstraw. As the game
has gone on, Eastern Hints has gotten better and better.
Speaker 2 (02:14:42):
So Correnier went out of bounds. Clock has stopped four
seconds in to the fourth quarter. West thought will have it.
Excuse me, Grand Haven has it Amani Friarson the loan
receiver to the wide side right, trips to the left,
Jorgensen at Radkey and Cornstra and the pass is going
to be a screen to Friarson. Got a first down
(02:15:03):
in more and we've got another penalty flag on the field.
The ball was fumbled by Friarson. It's picked up by
a Grand Haven offensive lineman, center Camden Meeker has ran
it into the end zone after Friarson fumbled on the
big game. But I think this is all coming.
Speaker 3 (02:15:18):
Back, Yeah, I think so. And it's too bad. That
was a very good play design. Again, they've run that
screen a few times.
Speaker 1 (02:15:27):
And now we've got another penalty flag way down at
the one yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:15:31):
Boy, Camden Meeker's this center. He picked up the fumble
and ran into the end zone. We've got multiple What
a crazy play.
Speaker 3 (02:15:40):
Oh and he thought, man, that was the play of
his life there for Camden Meeker. He did a nice job.
Showed some wheels for a center. But it looks like, yeah,
it's all gonna come back here. Yeah, let me see
if I can get a penalty total here. Jay, it's
been a a little bit out of control.
Speaker 2 (02:16:02):
We've got Friarson still down on the ground. He's at
the west out of a thirty two yard line where
he was tackled and fumbled it. We've got two penalties
coming up on Grandaven, so the touchdown will not stand.
We've got a block in the back.
Speaker 1 (02:16:16):
After the play, we have another sportsman line.
Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
And then they and they call it on sports like
penalty on Grand Haven after the play. They're enforcing both penalties.
Speaker 1 (02:16:27):
It could be a twenty five yard penalty and Grand
Haven's gonna back up all the way to their own
thirty yard thirty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:16:36):
Somehow it's a twenty yard penalty. I'm not sure. Is
it a five yard penalty for the block in the
back like him fifteen? Anyways, if Grandaven's got the ball
in the thirty five yard line, they need a forty
one of west outawa for a first down, so it's
third and twenty four.
Speaker 1 (02:16:51):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:16:52):
Yeah, that was a crazy play. That's all you can
say there. They're gonna check on two penalties. I'm looking
amani for Iarson limping off the field, but he's under
his own power.
Speaker 1 (02:17:06):
He's down on the ground now.
Speaker 3 (02:17:07):
But hopefully they're gonna be able to get Friarson back
on the field because he is their dynamic playmaker.
Speaker 2 (02:17:17):
So third down and very long for the Bucks, who
trail by six. Hen sends Lennon Jorgenson in motion. They
fake to give him the jet and they're gonna throw
it to Chrenstra on the wheel, who had a ton
of room in front of him. The pass is incomplete,
though he lot him maybe just a little bit too much.
Was able to get his hands out of a couldn't
holiday and it's fourth down.
Speaker 1 (02:17:39):
Yeah, he catches that ball.
Speaker 3 (02:17:40):
He sprints fifty five yards after the catch for a touchdown.
Just maybe a little too much zip on that ball.
A very tough catch, and God, sometimes that's how close
these games are.
Speaker 1 (02:17:53):
They're gonna have to kick this one away.
Speaker 3 (02:17:55):
And after all the penalties and everything else, it looks
like west Oddwa was gonna get great field position.
Speaker 2 (02:18:03):
So Munford's gonna line up to kick it away another
high snap. Munford, though, able to retreat and get it,
and he gets away a high short kick. It'll bounce
at the West out of thirty seven and it's gonna
take up panther bounce comes back to the thirty nine
yard line. Twenty six yard punt, no return and I'll
be honest with you time after all that that's gonna
(02:18:25):
go with a three and out. It's gonna be a
three and out for Grand Haven. That's one of the
wildest offensive possessions you'll ever see a center with a
fubble recover for a touchdown, but two penalties on the offense,
and now West out of has got a back up
six from its own thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:18:41):
Wow, can the can the Grand Haven defense answer the
bell again? I mean this is getting to the point here.
With eleven minutes to go in this game, West out
of A leading by six, you know they score again?
Will Grand Haven have enough time to score twice? So
it's almost like they can't let West Outawall get any
(02:19:02):
more points in this game.
Speaker 2 (02:19:03):
You can certainly count possessions. It's a final over. In
ninety six point one the game, Belly beats Hollands sixty
to twenty. The Black Knights and their quest for a
fourth straight Okay Silver title improved to three and oh.
The gave is to Kila Montgomery over the left side.
He gets six out to the forty five yard line.
Clock is running eleven nineteen to play. The clock is
not running although I'm not sure why this is at
(02:19:25):
least a third time tonight. I've looked up and the
clock wasn't running when it should have been. Still not
running at eleven twenty second down and four for West
Ottawa at the forty five yard line, and the give
is to Kaileb Montgomery running off right tackle. He's into
a grand he have a territory and he's down to
the forty six. But another penalty flag is down. If
it stands, it's an eight yard gain in a West
(02:19:46):
Outawa first down.
Speaker 3 (02:19:47):
My goodness, And maybe that's why this game is taking
so long, is the clock isn't always running when it's
supposed to be running, Jay.
Speaker 2 (02:19:58):
And there's a million penalty flags, but they're gonna wave
this off. The official picks it up, no flag, so
the game of eight for Cayleb Montgomery will stand. West
Ottawa has it first and ten on the Grand Haven
forty five yard line. Panthers lead the Buccaneers twenty two
to sixteen, and the clock is now running eleven o
eight to play.
Speaker 1 (02:20:18):
J T. Gill, the outstanding sophomore receiver, split out to
the short side right.
Speaker 2 (02:20:26):
Anaya in the gun with Caylen Montgomery next to him,
and he's gonna you know, he pulled it and threw
it complete to gil Gil inside the thirty J. T.
Gill all the way down close to the twenty yard line,
twenty six yards to the nineteen And that was classic
RPO And what a.
Speaker 1 (02:20:44):
Read by Abel and Iya.
Speaker 3 (02:20:45):
Yes it was, and it was a page right out
of Grand Haven's book that they've been hurting west Ottawa
with almost that similar play and that time a good
job also holding onto the ball that time. It was
number eight for Grand Haven. A rat key you almost
try to strip it out, but good job of holding
onto the ball for west Ottawa.
Speaker 2 (02:21:07):
So they spotted him down to the twenty. It's a
twenty five yard game and on first down, West Ottawa
gives to Kaylea Montgomery. He's hit and drop by Jason
Diaz Dally on the junior defensive lineman wearing fifty one,
who's played really well on that defensive line for Grand
Haven tonight. They give him a game of one down
to the nineteen yard line, second down and nine, ten
to fifteen to play in the game, and Naya drops
the snap. Now he's gonna have to run it and
(02:21:29):
does good to get a yard down to the eighteen
yard line before Levi Tubergan gets him. That looks like
a good snap to me. And I might have just
got a little ahead of himself.
Speaker 3 (02:21:36):
That's right, And here we are, Jay. This is absolutely
critical for Grand Haven. They've been hanging around in this game.
They got third and eight here. They got to stop
him on two more plays and get the ball back
with a chance to go down and take the lead.
So the defense has to come through here for the Bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:21:55):
Third down and eight, West Thoughtawo needs to ten Andaya
in the gun and he's straight back to pass with time,
delivers to a wide open JT.
Speaker 1 (02:22:02):
Gildian zone. That was just a bust, just a bust. JT.
Speaker 2 (02:22:07):
Gill looked like he was out early for practice and
able and Iya hits him for a seventeen yard touchdown
strike and West Dottawa is up by twelve.
Speaker 1 (02:22:16):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:22:16):
That's what I call the Fleetwood Mac play. There's not
another living soul around JT. Gill all alone in the
end zone and great patience there by a maya waiting
for it to happen, any excuse me, and to deliver
to strike. Sometimes when a guy is that wide open.
You know, you see the quarterback's eyes light up and
they over overthrow them or something. Good job by Anaya
(02:22:39):
threw it right on the money for the touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
So West Ottawa is gonna go for two here because
they're up twelve at twenty eight to sixteen. So if
they can get the two point conversion, that put them
up fourteen, which would be two touchdowns and two extra
point attempts, and they fake the reverse and throw it
to a wide open Ronnie Ferguson.
Speaker 1 (02:22:59):
So well designed by Pat Collins.
Speaker 2 (02:23:01):
If they faked the end a round gives that they
ran to CJ trailer the last time for the two
point conversion, and then they got ridnie Ferguson wide open
on the right side of the formation. Two point conversion.
Speaker 1 (02:23:10):
Good.
Speaker 2 (02:23:10):
And with nine thirty six to play in the game,
our score reads West out of A thirty and Grand
Haven sixteen. And as you alluded to just moments ago,
now it's gonna be tough for the Bucks because they're
likely to get only two more possessions in this game.
They're gonna have to score both of them. They don't
give up any more points.
Speaker 3 (02:23:27):
Yes, yeah, they're they're zero margin for Era right now
for Grand Haven and all right, okay, I do have
some third quarter stats here. I just wanted to take
a look at the penalty situation because there's been a
lot of.
Speaker 1 (02:23:43):
Them piling up.
Speaker 3 (02:23:44):
Nineteen penalties have been called in this game day ten
on Grand Haven for sixty nine yards and nine on
West Outawa for ninety one yards. So you know, you
ask me why these programs maybe are having trouble winning
games in the okay, red Well, penalties and mistakes are
(02:24:05):
a big, big reason.
Speaker 2 (02:24:07):
Tom Kendra, I don't think I've been doing this as
long as you. I started calling games in nineteen ninety
nine and I've been in a high school game almost
every Friday for the last twenty six years. I don't
ever remember nineteen penalties in a game. We still have
nine minute and a half minutes to play.
Speaker 3 (02:24:21):
Yeah, absolutely, so we could set some kind of record.
Who knows, not the kind of record you were proud
of and jump up and down about, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:24:31):
Wellt'start of with thirty Grand Haven sixteen. Panther's gonna kick
it away. It's Griffin Dodd with it teed up. It's
a line drive kick. kV Cornsterer retreats and let it bounce.
It goes into the end zone for a touchback. The
second time tonight that Gryffin Dodd has kicked a touchback.
Speaker 1 (02:24:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:24:51):
Now, like we mentioned Grand Haven, now West Auta one
knows what Grand Haven is gonna do. They know that
they don't have to respect the run because they're gonna
we have to throw the ball. They got to score
and score in a hurry and get the ball back.
So it's definitely an advantage for the defense when you
know what the offense is gonna do.
Speaker 2 (02:25:09):
Hey, don't forget to go to the West Michigan High
School football page. You can find it at one oh
seven mus dot com, nine to six one the Game
dot com, or Woodradio dot com. We've got game podcasts,
we got the LMCU high School football preview show was
up there, the Pigskin Party. Rick Burkey was with Uni
Christian this past Monday. The page available a lot of places,
(02:25:29):
Trinity Health improving our communities. If I be going beyond
our hospital walls, Grand even has it down fourteen. Hint's
gonna roll left and pitch it to Cornsher who wasn't
ready for it. Oh my goodness, they're gonna call it
an incomplete forward pass. That was close and West Dottawa
fell on it, but it's ruled an incomplete pass. It
will be second down.
Speaker 3 (02:25:49):
Let's take a quick look at the rapid radio scoreboard
here and what a game going on at Byron Center
Jay thirty five to thirty five Mona Shores and Byron
Center Muskegan, and also in the Oka Green forty to
twenty one over Forest Child Northern. Just quickly, a couple
of the interesting games back and forth games. Spring Lake
leads West Catholic twenty two to twenty one, and North
(02:26:11):
Muskegan in a back and forth game leads Heart twenty
nine to eighteen.
Speaker 2 (02:26:16):
A lot of great games. Tonight nine thirty two to
play second and ten for grand Haven. Hints wants to
go deep. He's trying to get it to Friarson just
overthrown Vulk and Reynolds both in coverage. It's third and ten.
Speaker 3 (02:26:31):
Yeah again right now, it's sort of desperation time for
Grand Haven, trying to find that connection between Hints and Friarson.
Speaker 1 (02:26:40):
But double covered there.
Speaker 3 (02:26:43):
They're probably if that's the case, if they're gonna double
cover Friarson gonna have to look to one of the
other guys here on third down.
Speaker 2 (02:26:52):
Clocket stopped nine minutes, twenty six seconds to play in
regulation Grand Haven with the football on. It's on twenty idline,
facing third and ten, trailing West Attawa by fourteen points,
empty set five wide for Hints. He's gonna roll out
to his right and he's gonna throw to a wide
open Friarson complete at the thirty eight, steps through a
tackle and gets out to the forty two yard line
(02:27:14):
twenty two yards in that time. It's the ability of
Hints to keep the play alive. Got his receiver open.
Speaker 1 (02:27:19):
Yeah, on that play.
Speaker 3 (02:27:20):
The I don't know if it was the cornerback or
the outside linebacker here for West Ottawa. He had to
make a decision and as Hints turned the corner, he
left Friarson open. Went after Hints, Hints wisely lofted it
over his head for the first down. So yeah, Hints
has been very impressive Jay, especially here in the second half.
Speaker 2 (02:27:42):
A lot of guys playing through some pain in this
rivalry game. We saw Friarson go out in the last possession.
He's back in there, got a blimping again. All we
got to pass incomplete. Hints was trying to get it
to Carnstra boy Friarson was being held. I saw his
jersey get pulled. He was not the intended receiver. There
is no flag. We've had plenty of those tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:28:00):
Yeah and yeah, the Grand Haven coaching staff doesn't like it. It
was a pretty obvious hole there in the middle of
the field. I don't think Hints was throwing to him.
He wasn't, but still you got to make that call,
I would think so.
Speaker 2 (02:28:13):
Nine minutes exactly to play in the game, west out
of with thirty and Grand even sixteen. The ball's on
the forty one yard line. It's second down and ten.
Grand Havens had a couple of golden opportunities in the
second half. They recovered it on side kick and had
the ball on the west odd of with forty nine,
but turned it over on downs, and then they had
the ball again on their own forty nine and punted
(02:28:34):
on their last possession. Now Hints wants to roll left
and he's throwing it's gonna be intercepted Ronnie Ferguson with
a pick. He was trying to get it to Lennon
Jorgensen and Ronnie Ferguson made a big time play. He's
their nickelback into those obvious passing situations which clearly we
were in down fourteen in the fourth quarter. Had a
(02:28:54):
really nice play by Ferguson.
Speaker 3 (02:28:56):
Yeah, that time, you know it looked like hints maybe
him and the receiver were not quite on the same
page that time. I thought that your receiver did the
right thing and took off and just an underthrown pass
there by Hints And now west Oudaw were really in
control here zero to four on the season, but they're
(02:29:17):
in good.
Speaker 1 (02:29:18):
Shape to get that first win up fourteen.
Speaker 3 (02:29:20):
But you know they're not going to do any celebrating, though,
are they With some of the things that have happened
to them so far this year and some of the
ways they've lost football games. I don't think the west
Ouda was going to be doing any celebrating until the
final second ticks off.
Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
This clock, well, and now they have to go to
work and try to run some clock and running the
football has not been there forte this season, or especially tonight.
And Iya is in the gun and he's got Jeremiah
Edwards next to him. They have trips to the left
Gil and they handed to Jeremiah Edwards right at the middle,
(02:29:55):
runs into a wall, got a yard of the thirty
nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:30:00):
Yeah, that's one thing we can say that Jeremiah Edwards
running the ball the middle has not worked tonight. Grand
Haven's been ready for that. It's neither team, you know,
the storyline of this game. Neither team has been able
to run the ball at all. It's basically been the
two junior quarterbacks going at it.
Speaker 1 (02:30:18):
Both been very impressive.
Speaker 2 (02:30:20):
So second down and nine West thought into hurry, they'll
at the play clock drain which is at fifteen seconds,
where at eight seventeen to play in the game, they
snap it with twelve in the clock and they pull
it and I have pulled it on the RPO and
try to get it to Elijah Reynolds and for one
of the very few times tonight, that connection is no good.
It's incomplete. And now it's third nine.
Speaker 1 (02:30:42):
Yeah, and it's kind of a.
Speaker 3 (02:30:45):
Kind of interesting, you know, they would throw the ball
there incomplete pass. I guess that's playing into Grand Haven's
hands here. If they can they can get a stop here,
they'll get the ball back with still quite a bit
of time on the clock.
Speaker 2 (02:30:59):
Well, I do believe that was an RPO, I think,
and Naya had the option to let Caleb Montgomery take it,
but he pulled it and threw it and Realms was open,
but he missed him. Third and nine from the thirty nine,
and they're gonna Naya is gonna throw to the middle.
Speaker 1 (02:31:12):
He's got J. T.
Speaker 2 (02:31:13):
Gill complete at the forty eight. He's about a yard
shy of the first down. Oh my goodness, they are
gonna move the chains. I thought he was a good
yard short. They give him the forty eight and they
moved the chain. It'll be a first down for west Ottawa.
Speaker 3 (02:31:27):
Wow, a great, great pass there by Annaya. An even
better spot there, but that's gonna get That's gonna give
him the first down and allow him to chew another
probably three minutes off of this clock here.
Speaker 2 (02:31:39):
I'm sure West Outa would have gone for a fourth
in one year, midfield, And I'm just doing a poor
job of officiating from way up here in this beautiful
West out of a press box. First and ten for
the Panthers, seven minutes, forty seconds to play in the regulation.
Whoe up fourteen Naya and the gun's gonna hand it
to Kaylea Montgomery. Montgomery every right tackle, he's got a
head of steam into Grandaven, tear down to about the
(02:32:01):
forty seven, has solid five yards on first down for
the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (02:32:05):
Yeah, that's something we haven't seen much of, is a big,
big run on first down. But right now the clock
is the best friend of Pat Collins and the Panthers
here getting running down close to seven minutes to go
with a fourteen point lead. Some of these Grand Haven
fans are some few of them are heading for the
(02:32:26):
exits six.
Speaker 2 (02:32:29):
It's about what eighteen minute drive back up to Bucktown,
not far at all.
Speaker 3 (02:32:34):
Depending on you can take Lake Shore Drive if you want,
or you just go right up thirty one.
Speaker 2 (02:32:39):
Second down and an I is going to run it
left and I has got a first down. He's inside
the forty and I of the thirty and dives to
the twenty nine yard line, nineteen yards for junior quarterback
Abel and Aya and West thought of it. Moves the
chains again.
Speaker 3 (02:32:53):
Yeah, that's something we haven't seen a lot of tonight,
is a Naya taking off and running it.
Speaker 1 (02:32:57):
He's certainly capable.
Speaker 3 (02:32:59):
He showed that time a nice bit of speed to
get around the corner and now.
Speaker 1 (02:33:06):
West out of are really in good shape.
Speaker 3 (02:33:08):
I would expect to see them just pound the ball
up the middle here probably four times.
Speaker 2 (02:33:15):
The ball is spot at the thirty y line, which
I think is a good spot. I'm kind of going
by the way this game is gone. They're usually giving
the ball carriers where they end up that time they
put them. We already went down, so eighteen yard game.
It is first and ten from the thirty and they
give it is Kayla Montgomery over right guard. He pushes
his way inside the twenty five to the twenty four
yard line, six yards on first down. And just as
(02:33:37):
I said, well, I thought I was gonna work on
the clock and they can't run the football. They're running
the football.
Speaker 1 (02:33:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:33:41):
Well again it's just the defense getting a little bit tired.
And that's all it takes is for the runs that
were two or three yards are now six or seven yards.
Speaker 2 (02:33:52):
It's stay tuned for the best Financial Credit Union. Postgame
show will have our drive of the game, our player
of the game, and our play of the game, plus stats,
out of town, scoreboard and more. That's after another five
and a half minutes West out of up fourteen with
the football second down and four, and they go Montgomery
(02:34:13):
every right guard. He's close to a first down, stacked
up at about the twenty one. I believe he's gonna be
a yard short.
Speaker 3 (02:34:20):
Yeah, Jay, that Mona Shores at Byron Center. Game now
into overtime, first overtime, thirty five thirty five.
Speaker 2 (02:34:27):
At the end of regulation, we've got another final. Cedar
Springs has beaten Lowell thirty five twenty eight. So it
might be a bad night for Kenawa Hills, which is
down big to Harper Creek in a non league game.
But the Knights are gonna be the only unbeaten team
in River City's Alliance play tonight as Lowell falls c
(02:34:49):
Cedar Springstear of course, lost its first conference game last
week at Kenawa Hills West Ottawa up fourteen with the
football four to forty six to go, and I and
the gun on third and one, He's gonna give it
to Kala mount Hoever, he's got a first down in
more spins off a tackler inside the ten.
Speaker 1 (02:35:03):
He's all the way down to the five yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:35:06):
Caleb Montgomery needed one, he got eleven.
Speaker 1 (02:35:11):
How about the homecoming King? Crown the King. At halftime, he.
Speaker 3 (02:35:15):
Was trying to make it a perfect night by scoring
on a touchdown run. He got all the way down
to the five, almost the five yard line. Not quite
into the end zone, however.
Speaker 2 (02:35:26):
So give him ten. They're gonna spot it at the eleven.
It's first down in ten West Ottawa. The Panthers can
get all right.
Speaker 1 (02:35:36):
There is only a downmark on the far side, which
would be first and goal.
Speaker 2 (02:35:40):
Oh, he's on the six. I'm really struggling tonight, Tim Kendrill.
Speaker 1 (02:35:43):
No, you're always on the six.
Speaker 2 (02:35:44):
He got fifteen on the game. First and goal from
the six and Kile Montgomery red of the in zone,
read the middle into the end zone. Caleb Montgomery for
a touchdown, a six yard run, and West Ottawa has
put this one out of reach with four h six
to play.
Speaker 1 (02:35:58):
Wow in that time, what a night for that kid.
Speaker 3 (02:36:01):
I may have to if he's around, interview him from
my game story i'm writing tonight. But Caleb Montgomery with
a capping off a perfect night for him, the homecoming
king scores on a six yard run and so so
far for West Audible, we've had three touchdown receptions by
Elijah Reynolds, a touchdown reception by JT. Galeen now their
(02:36:25):
first rushing touchdown six yards for Caleb Montgomery.
Speaker 2 (02:36:30):
So bulk into attempt the extra point on the hold
of Chris Bronchurst. It's up in good and our score.
West Ottawa thirty seven, Grand Haven sixteen, with four minutes
and six seconds to play in the ballgame. That touchdown
run by Caleb Montgomery is another fifty dollars donated to
Kids' Food Basket by LMCU. Kids Food Basket is our
(02:36:54):
official nonprofit for the twenty twenty five regular season game
LMCU Games of the Week. Both ninety six point won
the game and one oh seven m us the game.
Seven touchdowns for us tonight. That's three hundred and fifty dollars.
They had a whole boltload of them at Ray and
SEUs Smith Stadium tonight. I believe eleven touchdowns is Belding
(02:37:15):
beats Hall in sixty to twenty. So LMCU continuing to
donate money to Kids Food Basket to nourish local kids
to reach their full potential. That touchdown drive for West
Ottawa nine plays sixty two yards, takes four minutes and
(02:37:38):
forty four seconds off the clock, capped by the Kayla
Montgomery six yard touchdown run extra point from Adam Bulk
made it thirty seven to sixteen. Of course, his name
is Connor Valk. Adam Vulks, theathleto director at Whalen that
Tom Kendra the longest drive by time in this game
since the opening possession when grand Haven had it for
five twenty nine and went down a kicksfield goal. Griffin
(02:38:03):
Dot's kick bounces at the eight cornster, drives it at
the four kb cornstra up in near sideline, across the
twenty five cornstre at the thirty hit and knock down
at the thirty two and you're never gonna guess what
we have on this one.
Speaker 3 (02:38:15):
Let me guess another fla a penalty flag.
Speaker 2 (02:38:18):
So grand Haven down twenty one with three fifty nine
to go, is going to be backed up in its
own ends.
Speaker 3 (02:38:24):
Yeah, this is making for a long game with all
of the scoring, all of the passing, all of the penalties,
and all the times that the clock didn't start when
it was supposed to.
Speaker 1 (02:38:34):
So you put all of those things together, and.
Speaker 3 (02:38:38):
Almost all these other games I'm looking at here on
the rapid radio scoreboard are finals, and we still got
four minutes to go and Grand Haven's probably gonna come
out and throw the ball around.
Speaker 7 (02:38:50):
He had the first down fifteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:38:55):
Well, we can't look ahead. West Ottawa will be at
East Kentwood next Friday night. Grant Haven hits the road
to Caledonia. Obviously, the Panthers about to get a much
needed win. They've been oh so close many many times
this season, and they're finally gonna break into that win column.
Here's Cornstraw on the jet sweep. Cornsher's got some rooms
to twenty five and drop there. Nice job by Connor Valk.
(02:39:19):
He gets them a yard shy of the first down
where you could see some of that breakaway speed by Cornshrew,
who can really move.
Speaker 3 (02:39:25):
Yeah, he's still running hard. I mean, I'm impressed with
these teams.
Speaker 1 (02:39:29):
You know, the effort that they've shown.
Speaker 3 (02:39:31):
It's not easy when you lose a lot of games,
you get behind, But like on that, we're on right there.
KB Cornstraw was going all out and in fact he
was a one broken tackle away from maybe a huge
gain along the home sideline.
Speaker 2 (02:39:45):
More bad news from Major League Baseball, The Tigers in
Red Sox now tied at three. The Red Sox just
scored a round to the bottom of the eighth to
tie it. As the Tigers continue to try to find
their way in the postseason, but they've struggled. Tanner Wolf
gets the carry and he's got a first down over
the twenty five to the twenty eight game. Grand Haven
moves the chains.
Speaker 1 (02:40:01):
You know, Grant, you know Jake.
Speaker 3 (02:40:02):
Grand Haven's gonna come up short in this game, and
it's this is their second straight loss. They thought these
three games in the middle of the season Jennison, West,
Ottawa and Caledonia will were winnable games because they have
the gauntlet at the end of the season. Granville, Hudsonville,
East Kentwood to wind it.
Speaker 2 (02:40:19):
Up, clock running inside three minutes to go, Hint, side
of the gun, gonna roll left, still looking, he's under pressure.
He throws it away and complete. Josiah Quaar hit him
as he let it go and Hints to strew up
a prayer fell in complete.
Speaker 3 (02:40:37):
Yeah, that's fortunate. Wasn't intercepted that time, that's for sure.
But uh Hints is another one. Battling to the end here.
You know, you wonder well next year be the year
for grand Haven. Everyone's waiting for grand Haven to break through.
I mean, I look at all the juniors and the
sophomore Lennon Jorgensen, you know who knows it's not easy
(02:41:00):
to break through. But they certainly have a talented junior class.
Speaker 2 (02:41:03):
Well, West Auto was even younger. I mean absolutely, Yeah,
they're starting no seniors in the offensive line. Gills a
sophomore and I as a junior.
Speaker 3 (02:41:11):
I mean yeah, it's just hard when you have a
losing program to keep it all together, keep kids coming out.
You know, if you get a couple of those kids
that decide, I'll you know what, I don't want to
play football anymore for whatever reason. So that's a real
challenge for coach Beads and Pat Collins. Keep the kids engaged,
(02:41:32):
keep the positive energy.
Speaker 1 (02:41:34):
It's not easy.
Speaker 2 (02:41:36):
Tanner Wolf got that last carry to the thirty three
yard line. It brings up third down and seven for
Grand Aven. Make it third and six. They need the
thirty nine thirty seven to sixteen West Ottawa on its
way to a homecoming victory at this beautiful West Oudawa stadium.
Hits back to throw and it's incomplete. He was trying
to get it to kV carenstra It was actually behind
(02:41:57):
the line of scrimmage. Clock stops two oh seven to play.
You and I Tom Kendra are head at a Sailor
stadium next Friday night, and what will we find there?
Bonus Shores in overtime with Byron Center right now.
Speaker 3 (02:42:10):
Yeah, last report we have Byron Center. I had forty
two to thirty five in that game. Muskegan is taking
care of business at Forest Shield Northern forty to twenty one.
Speaker 1 (02:42:20):
So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (02:42:22):
We'll see what happens with Lona Shores if they're able
to pull that out or if they're gonna be a
coming home with a loss.
Speaker 2 (02:42:32):
So Grand Haven's got a fourth and sixth on its
own thirty three yard line. Hint, straight back the past
with time. It's trying to get it to kV Carenstra.
Elijah Reynolds makes the hit. My goodness, we have another
penalty flag and I don't get this one. This is good.
They're gonna call unsportsman like on West Ottawain. I just
(02:42:53):
I just didn't see it. I didn't see it. Elijah
Rends made a nice play, he celebrated it like anybody
else would. And Grant Even's going.
Speaker 1 (02:43:00):
To keep the football. Yeah wow, But on that play.
Speaker 3 (02:43:05):
Good great concentration by Cornstraw as he was being hit
the ball was up in the air, he was trying
to come down with it, and a good defensive play there.
Now the refs are out there trying to sort it out.
Speaker 2 (02:43:17):
Well, is it dead ball? So is it gonna be
Maybe it'll be West out of Football because it was
fourth down. The pass was incomplete, so it's great even
keep it or not. I guess that's that's the question.
Speaker 3 (02:43:25):
Oh, I guess technically if that was the case, it
should be West Outawa's ball and then they march off
the penalty.
Speaker 1 (02:43:33):
Fifteen year penal league first down.
Speaker 3 (02:43:39):
We'll definitely try at the end of this game to
give you the UH not only all the pertinent offensive stats,
but the.
Speaker 1 (02:43:47):
UH the final penalty tally.
Speaker 3 (02:43:51):
We'll see if there's more penalty yards than offensive yards
in this game.
Speaker 2 (02:43:55):
Well, we've got two minutes to go and West Audawa
we'll just need to run the ball a couple of
times in UH head on in to celebrate our homecoming victory.
Speaker 1 (02:44:06):
I would assume we'll see victory formation here.
Speaker 2 (02:44:08):
Jay, they'll probably run at least one play here. There
is a full two minutes and Grandaven has two timeouts.
Eve a forty second play clock, so forty times three
is two minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:44:24):
No real reason for grand Haven to use those time
outs here, in my opinion, down twenty one points.
Speaker 2 (02:44:30):
And I don't think they will. So if you're Andrew
beating better than the Buccaneers is back to the drawing
board and this is gonna be their fourth straight loss.
And it just doesn't get any easier, right, they go
to Caledonia and then they have Grandville Hudsonville East can't
would well, you knew it. Losing Andrew Williamson was just
a huge blow. Then you lose your left guard, Carson
(02:44:51):
Hardy Easton Hens missed six quarters, but everybody's going through
it this time of year. Abel and I in the
gun and he's gonna hand it off, and my lord
grand Haven's off side.
Speaker 1 (02:45:05):
No play, five yard penalty on the bucks.
Speaker 3 (02:45:11):
All right, Well, that game has just gone final Byron
Center forty two Mona Shore's thirty five overtime victory for
Byron Center. So very interesting there, kind of shaking things
up in the Okay Green.
Speaker 2 (02:45:26):
Are we officially the last game in the state still going?
Speaker 1 (02:45:31):
We might be.
Speaker 2 (02:45:33):
I'm going to bet first and five from the forty
three for West Ottawa.
Speaker 1 (02:45:36):
That overtime pay will be nice, though.
Speaker 2 (02:45:38):
They hand it to Jeremiah Edwards. He's got a first
down in more, he's inside the thirty five down to
the thirty three. Carson tiedoff got him now, I would
assume it would just be a couple of kneel downs
from Abel and Aya and the Panthers will get to
celebrate a homecoming victory. That dance will be a little
bit more fun tomorrow night, I'd say, thanks to a
very impressive win. I'll be honest with you, TK, You
(02:46:00):
and I both picked him. I thought it would win
this game. I just you watch them and they're a
solid team. And you talk to Pat Cowns, he says,
we're a good team. They just haven't had any breaks.
Speaker 3 (02:46:10):
No, I agree, and I you know, I'm just looking
down at some of their future games. I wouldn't be
surprised if they pick off one of these traditional powers
in the Okay Red because they have the athletes to
do it.
Speaker 2 (02:46:23):
Give goes to CJ. Trailer up the middle, inside the
thirty to the twenty seven yard line. I've been really
impressed with CJ. Trail. I think it's a really good player.
Number seven, the senior for West Auto. He starts at
outside linebacker. He must have made six tackles in the
first quarter. I mean it felt like he was everywhere
they spot him in an offense. He ran into two
point conversion. They use him as a dcoy in the
second two point conversion. I think Number seven and Black's
(02:46:45):
a really good player.
Speaker 1 (02:46:46):
Oh, no question about it.
Speaker 3 (02:46:47):
He's been and you know just some of the other
players that have stood out for West Ottawa the you know,
the two defensive tackles up the middle. How many times
do we say Caleb Morley and Alex Carrier, Christian DeWitt, Yeah,
CJ trailor you mentioned him. He's been all over the field,
the senior. So yeah, this is a Aya takes the
day for a one and four football team. They're pretty
(02:47:09):
darn good Abel.
Speaker 2 (02:47:11):
And Aya takes the knee and that is going to
do it. The clock runs out and West Ottawa can
celebrate its first win of the twenty twenty five high
school season, putting an end too a four game losing streak.
Our final score tonight West Ottawa thirty seven and Grand
Haven twenty eight in the OK Red Stay tuned because
(02:47:31):
coming up after this time out the best Financial Credit
Union postgame show. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game
of the Week one oh seven mus the Moose, West
Outawa thirty seven, Grand Haven's sixteen, Our final score tonight
and this rivalry edition in the ok Red. It was
(02:47:53):
the Panthers with a big second half twenty three points
after halftime. They let it fourteen to ten at the break.
Big game from their junior quarterback abel and Aya and
their senior h back Elijah Reynolds, who came back after
battling a labram injury. Hasn't played since early in Week
(02:48:13):
two against Zeland West. What a gutty performance by Elijah
Reynolds and on homecoming, West Odawa celebrates at the first
win of twenty twenty five. Jason Hutting with Tom, Kendra
and TK I really felt like at the end of
the third quarter at twenty two to sixteen, we were
in for an excellent finish, but the Panthers had other ideas.
They just really kind of dominated that final twelve minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:48:34):
Yeah, I said early on, you know which team is
in the better shape? And I think really West Ottawa
war down Grand Haven a little bit and that was
what enabled him to pull away there in the fourth
quarter again, four touchdown passes tonight for the junior quarterback
abel Anaya, maybe a break a breakout game for him,
and then they sealed a win with the six yard
(02:48:57):
run by the homecoming king, Caleb Montgomery.
Speaker 2 (02:49:00):
Let's take a look at the scoring summary in this one.
It was grand Haven who got on the board first.
The Bucks won the toss, took the football and they
drove seventy one yards to the West Outawa fourteen yard
line and settled for a Will Plumber thirty one yard
field goal to make it three to nothing. That was
our score after one in the second quarter, huge play
when West Otdawa faced fourth and goal from the three,
(02:49:22):
and they've had multiple times this season where they've unable
to score in a first and goal to go situation.
But at fourth and goal from the three, abel and
Aya hits Elijah Reynolds on a three yard touchdown pass.
Extra point from Contervalk made it seven to three Panthers.
The same combo would connect again with four point thirty
three to play in the second quarter, this time twenty
(02:49:44):
four yards from Anaiata Renolds. The Vaulks extra point made
it fourteen to three West Ottawa. Grand Haven appeared to
have taken back some momentum as kV. Carnstra ran it
in from ten yards out with two thirty five to
play in the second quarter. Our extra point from Will
Plumber made it fourteen to ten to half, but West
Ottawa got the ball to start the third quarter and
(02:50:06):
they go eight yards down the field and again it's
a Naiata Reynolds, this time fourteen yards two point conversion
after a penalty on Grand Haven on the point after
attempt makes it twenty two to ten. With CJ. Trailer
they ran in the two point conversion. Then Grand Haven
answers back Sam Conda with a fifteen yard touchdown pass
reception from Easton Hints extra point is blocked. Our score
(02:50:27):
was twenty two to sixteen after three quarters, but then
in the fourth quarter it's able Anaya to J. T.
Gill seventeen yard touchdown pass, two point conversion pass was
good to Ronnie Ferguson to make it thirty to sixteen,
and then Caleb Montgomery, who was named homecoming King tonight,
capped the scoring with four h six to play in
(02:50:48):
regulation with a six yard touchdown run Vox extra point
makes it thirty seven to sixteen West Ottawa. That's our
final score and the Panthers can celebrate their first win
of the season, which brings us to our scoring summary,
which is brought to you by Schaefer Swartz. You don't
(02:51:08):
pay unless they win. For our drive of the game,
we're gonna go with that third quarter drive. West thought of it.
Got the ball to start the second half, leading fourteen
to ten. They go eleven plays, eighty yards, take three
forty five off the clock, and they cap it with
an able and Aya to Elijah Reynolds fourteen yard touchdown
pass two point conversion run from CJ trailer made it
twenty two to ten. That's our beton Chevrolet Cadillac gmc
(02:51:31):
buick in Muskegan Drive of the game beton Chevrolet Cadillac
gmc buick in Mskegan. Together, let's drive to both sides
of Henry Street today. Our final score from West Audawa Stadium,
the host Panthers thirty seven, Grand Haven sixteen. We'll have
more on the preferred excuse me, We'll have more on
(02:51:52):
the best Financial Credit Union postgame show after this time out.
This is the LMCU Lakes Short Game of the Week
on one oh seven, mus the Moose on homecoming. It's
the home team. West Odawa was celebrating a thirty seven
to sixteen win over Grand Haven in the Oka Red tonight,
(02:52:15):
the Panthers improving to one and two in the OK
Red and one in four overall. Grand Haven falls to
zero to three in the OK Red one in four
on the season. Tom Kendra, how about a look at
our final stats?
Speaker 3 (02:52:29):
Yeah, and very interesting these stats, Jason, as at all
ended up. The passing yards were almost identical. Two hundred
and eight passing yards for west Ottawa, two hundred and seven.
Speaker 1 (02:52:42):
For grand Haven.
Speaker 3 (02:52:44):
West Ottawa wasn't able to run it at all for
three quarters, but in that final quarter they wore down
grand Haven and started running it. Final rushes thirty six
rushes for one hundred and fifty eight yards for West Ottawa,
twenty two rushes for seventy nine yards for grand Haven.
As far as the individuals go for Grand Haven, can
(02:53:04):
you believe Jason junior quarterback Easton hints through the ball
forty one times tonight? That just shows they abandoned the
running game of kV cornstraw and went to the air.
He was twenty two of forty one for two hundred
and seven yards. He had the one touchdown pass to
a Semir Conda and the one interception. The leading receivers
(02:53:28):
for Grand Haven kV. Cornstraw seven receptions for seventy yards,
the sophomore Lennon Jurgens and nine receptions for sixty one yards,
and the junior Amani Friarson four catches for fifty five yards.
Switching it over to West Ottawa their junior quarterback abel
(02:53:51):
and Ayah his totals for the game. He completed thirteen
of twenty two passes for two hundred and eight yards,
four touchdown pass is, three of them to Elijah Reynolds
and one of them to J. T. Gill, the sophomore,
and just one interception, So a great a great game
for abel Anayah for West Ottawa, the leading receiver Elijah Reynolds,
(02:54:15):
making his return after the shoulder injury, five receptions for
eighty yards. Three of those receptions went for touchdowns. Quinton
Edwards had two receptions for sixty one yards.
Speaker 7 (02:54:27):
J T.
Speaker 1 (02:54:27):
Gill four receptions for fifty.
Speaker 3 (02:54:30):
Eight yards, including the touchdown, and Ronnie Ferguson two receptions
for nine yards. As far as the defensive stats go, CJ. Traylor,
you mentioned him the outstanding outside senior outside linebacker for
West Otawa eight tackles abel and Aya from his safety position,
(02:54:52):
seven stops and Connor Valk with five for Grand Haven.
If I can find where I that rolled them down
somewhere here on one of.
Speaker 1 (02:55:03):
These sheets, it's running away from me here.
Speaker 3 (02:55:05):
But if I track down the Grand Even defensive stats, Jay,
I'll let you know.
Speaker 1 (02:55:12):
Well.
Speaker 2 (02:55:12):
I can tell you this, sixty plus pass attempts, twenty
two penalty flags. That's a recipe for a two hour
and thirty eight minute football game, which is what we
got tonight. But for West Outawa, they don't care how
long it took. They're just happy they won thirty seven
to sixteen over Grant Haven. And that brings us to
the Bluewater Cabinetry and designed player of the game tonight time.
Speaker 3 (02:55:35):
Yes, and for that we're gonna go with the guy
who we didn't even know was gonna play when we
got here until Jason doing the work you always do
every game, going down on the field before the game,
talking to Pat Collins, we found out Elijah Reynolds was
going to be back in the lineup, So we looked
at each other and said, well, I wonder if he'll
do anything. Well, he certainly did right away in the
first quarter, and he ended up with three touchdown receptions. Again,
(02:55:59):
a total of five catches for eighty yards, but three
of them went for touchdowns. A three yard, a twenty
eight yard and a fourteen yarder. So what a return
for the senior Elijah Reynolds. We're gonna name him our
Bluewater Cabinet Tree and Design Player of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:56:16):
Yeah, no question. I mean I'd like to give an
out of a mention to CJ. Trailer. I thought he
was outstanding able and Aya probably gets one of those
as well. But I think there's no question it's Elijah Reynolds.
I mean, dude is not only playing through a laborm injury,
which can be extremely painful. He wanted to be out here.
It's homecoming. You only get one of those your senior year,
and he put on a show man. I mean, we
(02:56:38):
expect to see my defense build a little bit of defense,
but offensively, he was just the start tonight, and you
can see why the Chippewas are excited to get Elijah
Reynolds up to Mount Pleasant Bluewater Cabinetry and Design, helping
bring your cabinetry and countertrop dream to life. West Ottawa
(02:56:59):
beats granaven and thirty seven sixteen. This is the Best
Financial Credit Union postgame Show, Best Financial Credit Union. Remember
your next adventure begins at Best Financial Credit Union. We
still have the name tonight's play of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:57:13):
We'll do that.
Speaker 2 (02:57:14):
When we return on the Best Financial Credit Union post
game Show. This is the mcu lake short game of
the Week. On one O seven m Us of the Moose.
Let's not with thirty seven Grand Haven sixteen. Jason and
Tom Kendra back on the Best Financial Credit Union Postgame Show,
where it's a happy homecoming for the Panthers and it
(02:57:37):
is time now to name our play of the game
time Kendra.
Speaker 1 (02:57:40):
They had a lot of candidates for that. Jay.
Speaker 3 (02:57:42):
We had five touchdown passes, four of them by Abel
Lanaia for West Ottawa to one of them but from
easton hints.
Speaker 1 (02:57:50):
But I guess the most dramatic touchdown pass of.
Speaker 3 (02:57:52):
The game was the first one that came in the
second quarter, and it was because Grand Even had a
goal line stand going. They stopped Jeremiah Edwards, the big
running back for West Ottawa three plays in a row,
so then there.
Speaker 1 (02:58:05):
Was a timeout.
Speaker 3 (02:58:06):
It was a fourth and goal from the three yard line,
and that's when Pat Collins decided dial up the pass.
And that was the first time we saw Elijah Reynolds
make his presence in the game. A slant pattern from
Abel and I three yards to Reynolds for a crucial touchdown.
We're gonna make that play our Mayer play of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:58:27):
Let's hear how it sounded. They have it fourth down
and goal from the three. Reynolds is split out wide
to the right and I looking for him. He's got
a touchdown. Elijah Reynolds on the quick slant, West Ottawa
on the board.
Speaker 3 (02:58:43):
Wow, great play call there by Pat Collins. Elijah Reynolds
back in the lineup, and yeah, I guess on second thought.
Speaker 1 (02:58:50):
It's obvious that's what you do.
Speaker 3 (02:58:52):
That slant pass to a you know, a great player
Reynolds going to Central Michigan University and delivery by Anayah
And that's gotta feel good for coach Pat Collins to
get into the end zone there.
Speaker 2 (02:59:07):
Yeah, just a huge play when you think about the
fact that they were down three to nothing. It was
fourth and goal, and you just know there were memories
of all the failed fourth down goal to go situations
for West Ottawa through the first few weeks of this season.
I thought that was a huge play. It set the
tone able and Aya to Elijah Reynolds. They connected three times.
Those two were impressive and west Ouda got a badly
(02:59:29):
need to win.
Speaker 3 (02:59:30):
Yes they did, And I really thought the key to
this key point in this game was when Grand Haven
scored and then recovered the on sidekick. You know, we
didn't talk a whole lot about the defense of West Ottawa,
but they came up big there. They denied Grand Haven
and then shut them out in the fourth quarter. So
let's give a little shout out to the West Otdawa
defense in crunch time they came through.
Speaker 2 (02:59:50):
Yeah, I agree. I thought the Panthers were outstanding on defense,
especially against the run, and they get to celebrate a
thirty seven to sixteen win tonight. All right, let's take
one final look Eric. The play of the game is
brought to you by Meyer. Don't forget the scoreboard show
with Rick Burkey is coming up. We got scores, highlights
you hear from Area coaches and more. Plus we got
all our reporters with reports East Green Rapids beats Northfew tonight.
(03:00:11):
R I mean, Monahana is there. We'll check in with
Scott the camp with Orchard Viumuski and CALLC Central. All
that and more coming up after the postgame show here
on one oh seven mus the Moose. But before we
do that, let's get one final look at the out
of town scoreboard.
Speaker 3 (03:00:22):
Yes, and the big score of the night that jumps
out at me as a Mona Shors getting upset at
Byron Center tonight in overtime forty two to thirty five.
Speaker 1 (03:00:31):
So Byron Center kind of throwing.
Speaker 3 (03:00:33):
A wrinkle into the OK Green Conference standings.
Speaker 1 (03:00:38):
Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (03:00:39):
After an zero and two start, they are rolling Jay
forty to twenty one win at a very good Forest
Shields Northern team West Catholic Handspring Lake. The third straight
loss twenty one to fourteen. It was Fruitport thirty five,
comstock Park fourteen. That's three in a row for the Trojans.
Oakridge forty one free sixteen. Last score we had was
(03:01:03):
Luddington twenty seven. Montague nothing back and forth game. Mason
County Central holds off Ravana eighteen to fifteen. Last score
we had was North Muskegan twenty nine, Heart eighteen, Shelby
thirty six, Hespiria seven, and orchard View in our lake
Shore Spotlight Game of the Week, orchard View goes into
(03:01:25):
Muskegan Catholic impressive thirty nine to seven. Orchard View beats
MCC for the cardinals second straight win.
Speaker 2 (03:01:32):
Well, you look at the okay green standings now, Miskegan
at two and oh, and you've got Mona Shores Byron Center, Forestills,
Northern all one in one, the big reds in the
driver's seat. After that one and two start and they
go two. Sailor Stadium next Friday night will be there
to be our game of the week. I want to
seven ms to Moose Miskegan Mona Shores. You can't miss it.
Every year. Mona Shores can find a way to win
(03:01:53):
that game. We've got a massive tie for first place,
but Miskegan can all but sew it up.
Speaker 3 (03:01:58):
Yeah, and I think I could see either. I could
see scenarios where either team wins that game. What's been
very interesting in that rivalry. Mona Schorts has had more
success at Hackley Stadium than they have at home. Muskegan
has won five in a row at Sailor Stadium going
into that game next week. So yeah, that's a lot
of storylines going on there, but I think it's gonna
(03:02:19):
be another classic, believe.
Speaker 2 (03:02:20):
It or not. Time. There are some people that believe
that home field advantage does not exist at the high
school level, and I am one.
Speaker 3 (03:02:27):
Of those whoa we're gonna have to that's a topic
for another day.
Speaker 2 (03:02:32):
Well, you just proved my point with the Miskegey Moon
of short series. The road team has done very well.
Eastern receives all right, it's going to do it for
us tonight. Great job tonight, Tom really enjoyed it. Special
thanks to host Athletic director here at West Otawa, Bill
Kennedy taking care of us. Both head coaches Pat Cons
Andrew Beidenbender love spending time in talking to those guys.
Speaker 1 (03:02:51):
Great job tonight, as.
Speaker 2 (03:02:52):
Always by executive producer Charles Keagan. State tuned in the
Myers Scoreboard Show with Rick Burkey as next for Tom Kendra.
I'm Jason Utt and saying good night from West Ottawa
where our final score West dodded with thirty seven and
Grand Haven sixteenth.
