think that's what white Hall is going to try to

start is critical. If they get behind again, they could

turn it over to Whitehall. Whitehall is going to sell
out to stop the run. I think they're going to
be jamming the box because Liam Lake, you know, ran
wild up the middle last week. I think the key
for Whitehall will be the senior quarterback, Cole Asa Begers.

You know, you and I have both been very impressed
with him this year, stepping in for Cam Thompson. I
think if they do that, he's going to have to
throw the ball a little bit, maybe run it himself
a little bit. And if they're able to do that,
I think Whitehall's got a good shot to extend their streak.

to seven in a defensive battle, and turned around and
got their first win under head coach Phil Cops last week,
blowing out orch Review fifty four to twenty. As for Whitehall,
the Vikings are one to zero in conference play this season,
with a week two win against oak excuse me against
Orchard View at home and their off course coming off

the big non conference win last week at Zealand West
thirty five to twenty eight, knocking off the defending Division
three state champions in a game where as Tom alluded to,
Liam Leak ran for two hundred and forty one yards
and the Vikings jumped out to a twenty one dozing
lead against the Ducks had to get a late time

So the Vikings at two and one, the Wildcats one
and two. But they say, in this rivalry, you can
throw out the records in the White River Rivalry and

Montague will receive. They're wearing the blue home uniform with

logo and the blue stripe. Interesting. You often talk about
special teams when it comes to keys to victory. Whitehall
kicks off. The Vikings have actually allowed a kick return
for a touchdown in each game this season. I don't
think we'll see the Vikings kick deep tonight because they

have struggled in that area. But it'll be fascinating to watch.

And there's some dangerous weapons for Montague who could taken
to the house, no doubt. I think it's significant that
Montague is getting the ball first. Phil Copes coming from Hamilton,
where he coached for six years.

He's an offensive coach. He prides himself on that. He
said he was.

Embarrassed after that oak Ridge game they were only able
to score seven points. I think they're going to want
to come out and make a statement on this opening drive,
so we're going to get a chance to see it.
Fascinates me this rivalry, Jason, I mean it's great. You
look at a packed house here, a lot of red,
a lot of blue, and a lot of pink pinkout
type game here today. But the swings in this series

Whitehall was eleven and two against Montague from nineteen eighty
eight to two thousand and then it switched over. Montagu
controlled this thing for the first twenty years of the century.
They were eighteen and two, and now Whitehall has won
four in a row. So while the whole series has
been pretty even, it's had massive swings.

A Mendoza the senior has it teed up for the
Vikings as we're ready to go. Cole Moss, the junie
for Bradley the senior back deep at their own fourteen
yard line as the Wildcats will get the ball to
start this game behind senior quarterback Eli Peterson, who wears
number five. The kick is gonna come down to Moss
at his own ten yard line at the far sideline
as Montague will defend the north end zone. Moss coming

all the way across to the right side, he is
wrapped up and dropped by Cody Manzo at the twenty
one but there is a flag down. We'll check that.
We'll also check the starting lineup. We talked about Peterson
the quarterback number five. You'll have junior Devlyn Dean wearing
number two. In the backfield. They'll go with two slots,
two wide receivers in the vere option offense of Phil Cops.

Number one Cooper Bradley, the senior, and number zero Cole Moss,
the junior, will be the slot receivers. The outside receivers
are seniors number ten Cole Harriman's and number eleven Holden
Dylan Bailey. We have a holding penalty call against Montague,
so they're going to back up and start this one
deep in their own territory. But they have a veteran
and really good offensive line. They will start five seniors,

four of them our returning starters Logan Hanson and number
fifty five is left tackle Isaac French. Number fifty two
is left guard Maverick Osborne. Number fifty three is center
Landon Wood, number seventy two right guard, and number fifty one,
Elijah Eilers is the right tackle. So on first and ten,
Bradley and Moss in tight. Bradley goes in motion and

they're going to fake the give to Dean, but we
have another flag. This play stop before it gets started,
a legal procedure on Montague, and now they'll back up
inside their own ten yard line as we check that
Whitehall defense, which will go with big number seventy eight
to senior Caden Boyer at nose tackle. It's a three
to four front for new defensive coordinator Kyle mcgew new

as defensive coordinator not new to the staff. Senior Corday
Anderson number ten and senior at number seventy seven, Jacob
Alger are the ends. The outside linebackers are senior number

Bradley in motion again. This time they'll give it to
Dean up the middle, and the ball is on the

turf and I think Whitehall's got it. The ball was
fumbled on the mesh point and Whitehall does have it.
Corday Anderson blew it up and recovered the fumble. Whitehall
will get it inside the Montague ten yard line.

What a nightmare start ver Montag You have two penalties
on the first two plays and then a fumble there
you mentioned Corda Anderson, one of the great athletes in
the area. He's he is almost unblockable that time, causing
the fumble, and just like that, Whitehall's got.

Cordy Anderson recently committed to Farris State, and he sets
up the Vikings an excellent field position first and goal
on the Montague nine. Cole Essebaggers the senior quarterback, and
he's gonna give it to Liam Leak, the junior on
first down. Nothing doing though for Leak as number fifty five,
Logan Hansen makes the play. Maybe he got a yard.
Let's check the Whitehall offense. Baggers and Leak in the backfield.

Their slot receivers are eleven. Jud Musk Hunter Osborne is
out there. We have not seen the senior slot receiver
has since Week one. The lost to Unity Christian Cody
Manzo and Aiden Mendoza at wide receiver and Corday Anderson
is the h back. And on second and goal, Aessebaggers

fakes the give to League. Now he runs right and
he didn't get far. Caleb Schmidt got him at the four.
Give it a gain of four. It'll be third down
in goal. We finished that Whitehall offense. Their offensive line
Caden Boyer number seventy eight, a senior, Billy Dark number
fifty seven is sophomore. Jamison Jeffrey number seventy five, a senior,
is the center, Jacob Alger senior number seventy seven, right guard,

and sophomore number seventy six Cooper Kujowski. It is second
down in goal for the Vikings. Three seniors on the
offensive line to go with two sophomores. Liam Leak behind
asabagers and the pistol, and he gets the carry over
left guard no where to go, stood up, driven back.
Nice job by Isaac French, the senior defensive end for Montague.

It's going to be fourth down in goal here early
for the Vikings.

Want to play that time by Isaac French. He met
Liam Lake right in the hole and this would be
huge for Montague. Obviously they make the big mistake and
the fumble, but if they're able to get a stop here,
looks like Whitehall will go for it.

A huge play really early.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
In this game. Jason eight Mendoza, the senior kicker thirteen
to fourteen mpats. He did miss his only field goal
attempt that was in Week one against Uni Christian hardcount
for Essa Baggers. Montague doesn't appear to bite. Hunter Osborne's
in the slot to the left, men doesn't split out
wide left, Manzell split out to the short side. Right,
Cordey Anderson is on the h to the right end.

Leak is the back. They give it to Leak right
up the middle of nowhere to go, absolutely nowhere to go.
Fletch Toeman led the charge. Montague's defense steps up after
the offense gave Whitehall the ball inside the tent.

Speaker 9 (15:27):
Wow is that huge for confidence for Montague. I think
Whitehall maybe a little over confident there. I think they
thought they could maybe push around the smaller Wildcats. Nothing
doing that time he was met behind the line of scrimmage.
Won a job by the Montague defense under the direction
of Dan Panetta. A huge stop and now let's see

if they can do something with it.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
So the Wildcats will be backed up to their own
three yard line. Not ideal, but a huge play from
the defense to get the turnover on downs inside linebackers
for white Halls, we finished their starters. Liam Leake the
junior forty five to one inside backer Hunter Peterson, the
senior number twenty, the other inside backer, and they got
Corda Anderson's got Hunter Peterson, excuse me, got Eli Peterson

at the one. Whitehall was signaling for a safety as
they drove him back into the en zone, but the
officials market down at the one, so at the two
yard loss, it'll be second down in twelve. Corday Anderson
is a problem, and he already has been early on
in this one. The secondary for Whitehall number five, senior
Colton Wheeler at one corner, Senior number three Cody Manzo

at the other corner. The safeties are Cole Heseebager, senior
number two and number one Hunter Osborne, a senior boy.
Having Osborne back in there, that's a big lift for
this white Hall team, no question about it. And I
think a little break there. I thought he may have
got him in the end zone, but Corday Anderson is
unblockable so far. Second and twelve for Montague from their
own one yard line. Moscow's in motion. They give it

to Fletch Toeman who's in a running back, and he
gets out over the five to about the six. Give
him five yards. It's going to bring up a third
and seven for the Wildcats, who don't throw a ton
but Eli Peterson is a capable passer.

Speaker 9 (17:06):
Real shaky start so far from Montague, they're just looking
like they just want to get out of the shadow
of their own end zone and you know, maybe punt
the ball away. I don't know if they're gonna throw
it here. I would see some kind of end around action.
Maybe try to get the ball to Cole Moss. Three
minutes into this one, we're scoreless.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Montague on its first possession, was backed up inside its
own ten and fumbled on its first play with the
defense forced a turnover on down. So now Montague's got
it back and as they run the third down play,
we're gonna get a penalty and an off sides call
against Whitehall, and now third and seven from the own
six becomes third and two from the eleven and a
much more manageable situation for the Wildcat.

Speaker 9 (17:46):
Yeah, that's the first penalty of the game against Whitehall.
Penalties have really hurt Montague, but that's a huge one.
Like you said, third and two very manageable here. This
would be a huge play for Montague. Try to keep
the ball, not give it right back back to the Vikings.

On first and ten from the sixteen, Peterson sends Bailey
out wide right. Harriman's the short side left, moscows in
motion and they're going to run the option dive. It's
Doughman right up the middle, over the twenty to the
twenty four. Give him eight yards on first down two
at fletch. Thoman is lightning in a bottle for this
Wildcats team. On both sides of the football.

It seems like Montague always has a short running back
like that who can make things happen. I go way
back to Riley Hughes and Fletch Thowman is the next
version of that. I guess a nice eight yard gain
on first down. Maybe Montague's settling.

In a little bit. They looked a little nervous jay
at the start of this game.

Seven minutes thirty six seconds to play in the opening quarter,
we are scoreless. Montague with the ball for the second time.
They started this drive from their own three, and they
pitched the Cole Moss running left. Moss gets a few
yards across the twenty five to maybe the twenty six.
I think he's got enough for the first down. Moss
had a big game last week over two hundred yards
rushing in the win over Orchard View, and that gain

is good for a first down. The spot him at
the twenty seven. It's a gain of three Wildcats move
the chains.

Speaker 9 (19:49):
Yeah, you mentioned two hundred and forty yards last week
for Cole Moss. It was just on eight carries. I
don't think he's gonna have a quite thirty yards per
carry average tonight, but that was a big tough yards
for the.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Cooper Bradley is the other slot. We will see him
get the football hasn't happened yet. Here Peterson on the dive.
Devlyn Dean is back in there giving Thowming a break,
and Dean with a head of steam, gets it over
the thirty to the thirty five and that's eight more
yards on first down. I'll tell you, Tom, we knew
last year when we were at this game down south
of the Bridge that what Montague was gonna be good

upfront because they played all those juniors last year. Boy,
they were running right behind those big seniors right now.

Speaker 9 (20:27):
Yeah, I'm looking at that offensive line, five seniors for
Montague and that's been the problem in recent years. But
I think Whitehall's defense is spread out to stop those
runs around the edge, and they're making them pay for it.

Speaker 8 (20:39):
That's quick fullback.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Trap fifty three Maverick Osbourne. The seniors center over the
ball and they're gonna run left with Cole Moss, who's
got a hole before Asa Bagers gets him right at
the sticks. At the he does, they'll move the chains. Boy,
it looked like Moss had a gap. Asa Bagers closed
it quick coming in from his safety spot. Interesting, Cole

(21:02):
Aseebaggers did not play defense in week one against Unity,
Christian did not play defense last week in Zealand West
because they were playing those wing T teams against Art
Review in week two, and tonight number two is out
there defensively.

Speaker 8 (21:14):
Yeah, and he's a great athlete.

Speaker 9 (21:15):
You know, we didn't hear much about him because of
Cam Thompson, but he has been great so far.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
On first down, they're going to run option to the
wide side, but the pitch is a little tough for
Cooper Bradley who drops it, picks it back up, but
he gets hit and dropped. Hunter Osborne got him in
the backfield back at the thirty three yard line. It's
going to be a loss of four and that's going
to set up second down in fourteen for the Wildcats,
who do not like to play behind the chains.

Speaker 8 (21:39):
Not at all.

But Hunter and Osborne what a great job coming up
from his safety position. A big hit there again, Montague
puts it on the turf again. They've they've been sloppy
so far, but I guess a little bit of that
is to be expected with a first year coach to
this new system and they're still adjusting to it.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
Second down fourteen we got five minutes, sixteen seconds to play,
opening quarter, Whitehall nothing, Monague nothing. Wildcats with three first
downs on this drive, which started on its own three
yard line, They're gonna go dive back Dean right up
the middle. He's got a yard maybe two. Hunter Osborne,
I'll tell you what. Had that foot injury and week
one against Undy Christians shout out the last two weeks.
He looks healthy to me.

Speaker 8 (22:17):
Yeah he does.

Speaker 9 (22:18):
The way he's playing, for sure, he might looks like
he may have that foot wrapped up a little bit,
little something extra on that one leg, but yeah, he's
moving around well, and that's a great sign for them.
I mean, you look at that back end to that
Whitehall defense. You have Hunter Osbourne and Colelessa beggers. That's
pretty good.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
So four forty to play in the opening quarter, Montague
ready for its eleventh play of this drive. They're still
at their own thirty five yard line. It is third
and thirteen. They need the forty eight for a fresh
set of downs. Peterson straight back to pass with time now,
he's gonna roll out to the right still looking throws incomplete,
looking for Cole Moss at midfield. Ball a little high

Hunter Osborne providing good coverage and the fourth and third
team Montague will send in the putting unit.

Yeah, a nice job by Whitehall, good coverage down the field.
But at least jay for Montague. At least they got
out of the shadow of their end zone like they were,
and they got to be feeling okay.

They've had a rocky start. But if they can get

To get Whitehall pinned deep on their side of the
fifty yard line, they'll be feeling all right.

It's under Osborne and so Eli Peterson is back to punt.
The Montague quarterback snap is over his head. It's over
his head. Peterson's retreating. He just falls on it at
the ten yard line, and that means for the second
straight possession, Whitehall will start inside the Montague ten yard line. Boy,
tough break for the Wildcats. There. We'll see what y'all

Like I said, the rocky start continues for Montague. I
thought maybe after getting a few first downs they were
settling in a little bit. But so they already had

It looked like he could have maybe picked it up
and tried to do something with it, but instead Whitehall

signs up front. They were opening some holes, especially on

and again there's just not much there. Excellent job by

the offenses could take over maybe in the second half.

One thing skewing those totally yard stats is the twenty

not been for that blunder on special teams. Peterson straight

To me, that's the most surprising thing is Whitehall has

Yeah, Liam leaked outstanding. Junior's well over four hundred yards
rushing this season for Whitehall. But watching Whitehall on tape
this week, assa Bagger's ability to run it has really
been a difference maker. He hasn't done that much. And
on first time they're going to run. Liam leaked to
the left. Nice job of the Montague defense stringing it out.
Dylan Bailey gets them out of islands. That's going to
be a loss. He lost at least a yard back

cole Isabegers has some of those same skills. Let's see

is behind Esenbaggers in the pistol. Sebager is going to
keep it option right. He pitches it to Hunter Osbourne,

Whitehall continues to go backwards. This monacue defense is really
really locked in. It's third and very long.

Whitehall hads thrown just twenty two passes in three games
coming in. They are a running team. But on third
down and fourteen at its own thirty one yard line,
we would expect to see Assabaggers put it up. Manzo
sput out to the short side right, Aiden Mendoza to
the left. Assabagger's play fake wants to throw for Anderson
and it's incomplete broken up that time by twenty four

he and Peters, who checked in the game, made a
nice play. The ball was underthrown as Asa Baggers was
pressured and it's sereen out for the Vikings.

They were had a couple guys coming off the edge
there and Fletcher Tolman and Caleb Schmidt, the two linebackers
were right in Assa Bagger's face. He had to just

Toman's really good at a lot of things, but his
ability to blitz really stands out. Excellent job there. Alger're

the momentum right now is wearing blue and silver.

They sort of weathered the storm I think at the
beginning of the game with their mistakes. They're fumbled, the
snap over the head. Sure they gave up one score,
but it was only one score. And now, for you know,

Montague's sort of been dominating. It's time for the Whitehall
defense to see if they can make their stuff and
get the ball back.

So the Wildcats, after scoring on their last play sixty
eight yard pass from Eli Peterson to Cole Moss Number
four senior Carter Johnson is checked in at one receiver.
He will be part of a twins formation with Harriman's
to the wide side left. But they're gonna run dive
right up the middle of Devil Dean, who's got a
head of steam over the forty to the forty two

when you win on first down and you put yourself
in second and three, that's where Phil Copes in this
mount of you offense want to be.

And in addition to that, when you run successfully up
the middle, that forces the defense to bring more resources
into the middle of the field, and that plays right
into the hands of Phil Cops. That's when he can
start looking at getting those slot guys onto the edge.

all run a counter to Cole Moss, Cole assebaggers all
over it. Though Moss got maybe a yard, but we
have a penalty flag in the area where we usually
see offensive holding. It was a game one, so it

Sigman's going to accept this penalty. They're going to push

very long I'll tell you what, Essa Baggers, who usually
impresses from the quarterback position, has been really good at
safety here as Aiden Mendoza has checked in at the

Yeah, really, it's those mistakes by Montague they've they've had
a lot of penalties. They've put the ball on the
turf a few times. If they can clean that up,
it seems like they're getting some push on that offensive line.
We mentioned those five seniors up front. But here's a

Montague burned a Whitehall on that pass to open the
second quarter, but this time being an obvious passing situation
third and long, Whitehall was ready for it. Double thrown
into double coverage, had really had no chance. So we
talked about Montague's defense that time. Great job by the
Whitehall defense. They're going to get the ball back, probably
in some pretty good field positions.

We will be monitoring number one for Whitehall, Hunter Osborne,
who missed the last two weeks with an injury. He
did not play that defensive series at his normal safety spot.
But he is out there to return this punt. He
waits back at his own twenty six yard line, low

to Casey Heisinger, the young offensive coordinator for Whitehall. It

quarterback for Whitehall and now he's back at his alma

His grandfather a great catcher, one of the best baseball
players ever in the Muskegan areas in the Muskegan Sports
Hall of Fame, and his dad, Kurt Heisinger, was a
great baseball player at Aquinas and now a teacher at Whitehall,
so that heising a name lives on at Whitehall.

In this battle for the bell a Sebagger is gonna
run it with Leak, but nowhere to go. Fletch Thoman
all over it. Whitehall has got to find something else
because right now Montague's defense is dominating this football game.

What's happening is those slow developing runs. And one thing
that's Montague defense is they're not big, but they're fast
and they're slow developing runs. These linebackers and defensive backs
are coming up and delivering the blows. Let's see what
Whitehall does, what kind of counter move they make.
