Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome back to Ray and Seusmith Stadium, part of Hope
College's football complex. Here and Holland bredbi Ket along with
Buck Geno. Before we get tonight's opening kickoff. Fuck, let's
go to you with the vandalon holimproven keys to the contest.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Well, we'll start with the home standing Dutch. They got
to fill the gaps.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
They've got to get up there, be aggressive in the
run game, make sure that Belding doesn't do what Comtok
Park did last week and gash them up the middle.
And they also need a good early start if they
let Belding get up a couple of scores.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
We know how wing t.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Teams can just start to take the air out of
the ball and you and really wild away that clock
if you're Belding. The key for them, they have to
limit those explosive players themselves. They cannot let Thin Galloway
and the rest of the crew to have those large
chunk plays, Eli Walters, I mean, they just can't let
those guys go fifty sixty yards to pop. They have
(00:55):
to make Holland go down the field and also offensively,
they just have to really be consistent and avoid any
lulls in execution.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Asher Folker to kick it away, high end, over end
kick and off the top of the helmet, tried to
field it high, high end, over end kick at the
five yard line. Was Ethan King, the starting running back
bounced off his head into the end boat end zone.
And don't forget in high school football, that doesn't matter.
He doesn't have to go back and recover it. It's
just a dead ball and out to the twenty first
in ten for the Black Knights. Keys to the Contest.
(01:26):
Brought to you by Vandalion Home Improvement with eighty years
of the business. Vandalion Home Improvement offers top notch contract
or services to customers in West Michigan called six one six, six, six,
nine to eleven eleven more details. Was it Vandalion's double
A on lines dot Com Belding coming out Jonah Hummel
split wide to the left, They'll go two backs in
the backfield wing back set to the right side, and
their senior quarterback Dawson Donovan under center, takes a snap
(01:47):
hand off up the middle across to twenty five. They
keep it on the ground is Ethan King. They're leading
rusher coming into the twenty six and that's gonna be
the challenge. But you know you talked about pretty good
sized offensive line for Belding. Can they get a push
against that defensive front for Holland, they're a nice gain
of six.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well, then they come up with a quick count there
and kind of blow Holland off the ball a little bit.
Holland just getting set and they run I guess what
you would consider tempo from Honey Price. They just got
up to the line faster and ran a quick count.
Holland has to be ready here, straight.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
T formation King the full back hand off left half
counteraction from left to right on the carry that time
was Ryan Woods. No check that Teagan van Dyken and
the senior gets a first down across the thirty just
shy the thirty five. That'll move to chains first and ten.
So it's Dawson Donovan number fourteen. Their senior returning quarterback.
Ethan King is one of the running backs along with
(02:40):
Teagan van duykn and both those guys. By the way,
two way starters. There are seven two way starters for
money Price. So they'll double up and go linebacker on
the defensive side. But right now, focusing on carrying the football,
and the guy who leads the way for them is
Ethan King. Forty three carries coming in just over six
hundred and fifty yards on the season. Counteraction now from
right to left, and a better job of the holand
(03:01):
defense stop at him after a game of four to
the thirty nine yard line on the carry that time
was Nick right the other running back. He's just a
one way starter, and they'll give him almost to the
forty bucks ginos Wi a gain of five second to
five on a gorgeous night in Hohland as the sun
goes down behind us and upfront will give you the
big uglies after this. But that's the key to obviously
(03:21):
any wing T team. And I know Monty Price when
I saw him in the preseason really excited about the
size and the push he thought he would get from
that offensive line. But just hasn't all come together yet
in one complete game this year.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Now, and Howland, like I said, they've got to be
ready for that quick count. Once Donovan Dawson gets over
the football, it's gonna get snapped pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Dawson Donovan with a snap pitcher right side King King
Kunglin wide finds it Crease and he's close to that
first down marker out across the.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Forty he scooched with some speed.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
To the forty six yard line, needed five, picked up six,
moved the chains first down and ten methodical belding in
the early going year as nine point fifty eight and
taking left to go opening possession your offensive lineman and
Tonio Smith number fifty eight is a senior, along with
Xavier Strictly number sixty four. Then you have Drew Scheer
who doubles up as a defensive lineman. Colton Hummel, big
(04:09):
number seventy five, a senior, very athletic, and then Jamison
van Aker another senior, number seventy nine, so an experienced
bunch as well. Straight T formation, one wide receiver split
to the wine side. Boy, look at some movement up
front of Yeah, there we go. I thought either guard
or tackle on our side got a quick start.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
I mean, they've been pretty good at going firing off
the ball, but the problem was that time the left
tackle about two yards upfield before the ball even got
off the ground.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And that's an easy call for the official.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
And that's when you just you know, if you're minded
priced That's what he was talking about It's like, man,
we got a good drive going, getting pretty good yardage
per carry, and then we just go early. We know
the count, we know when it's going, and why are
we leaving early? And so that's just one of those
things he really wants to see cleaned up.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Hayden Nielsen this time split wide left after a five
yard penalty first in fifteen we can't off Ethan King
scoots through a nice job of the offensive line over
that right side between the guard in tackles, across the
forty five and out to the forty nine yard line.
So gets the penalty yardage back plus three more gain
of eight second and seven coming up for Belding. Great
(05:15):
story about Jonah Hummel and Colt Humble. Now you see
number seventy five, he's the tackle nearest to us. But
you know, I'm gonna try to describe this for the
radio on Hits. He's six seven, goes about two sixty.
They said, he plays center field for the baseball team.
Unbelievably athletic. And he's a twin to number zero Jonahumble,
who's much smaller than he is, but yet they're twins.
Hand off right side, big hole over the right side,
(05:37):
stealing his feet into Dutch territory inside the forty, rambling
down to the thirty six yard line.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
It's another back they can rotate in.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
The bigger back in Tiagan Vandyke in that time first
and ten and right now Monty Price liking what he's
seeing with his group coming out with the football to
start this game and trying to send a message early.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Well, and as I said, Holland just has to fill
the gaps there.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
They're getting creased right now.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And part of it is because of the cadence, but
also part of it is just they're trying to wait
to see what's happening.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You can't wait against this offense.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
You have to get to the point of attack that
you're asked being asked to fill and then let your
rest of your teammates do the jobs.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Hand off again is team and Van Dykt over the
right side. They like what they're doing on that right
side of the offensive line as he fights inside the
thirty to the twenty nine yard line, keeping it on
the ground, just one wide receivers split out wide. Meanwhile,
that Dutch defense Ashton Company is your nose. Goud At
junior number fifty five Julian Seal got it was the
(06:37):
rush at number forty two at junior Calvin Rhodos Dala Rosa.
Fun to say number sixty is one of only three
seniors that start on defense for will Sippin, the fourth
year head coach. Here in Holland, Xander Asparzan number nineteen,
a senior is the bandit linebacker than William Bolt, only
a soft one number fifty eight, but they like him.
Second down and three inside the Dutch thirtieth to twenty
(06:58):
nine to late handoff left side, big hole trying to
bounce to the outside, breaks the tackle, stones feeding side
of twenty fifteen to ten to five touchdown to the house,
Nick right the junior and just like that, Belding from
twenty nine yards out strikes first. And the other part
that Monty Price likes to do with this offense is
they'll leave it out there and go for two.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah, and a really nice first drive there for Belding.
I think Holland there just got caught a little bit
off guard. They weren't firing off the ball there, but
then as they started to pick it up and started
to gee on, I guess what they do now? They
go miss direction they go counter that time with right.
He goes to the weak side and boy, after a
crushing block on that left side, goes to.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Peter straight t formation and untouched going in from left
to right. The counteraction Teagan van dykn so effective on
that drive.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Now a late penalty fly coming out.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
This will be after.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, there's a play Balding player kind of hobbling to
get to his feet on the offensive front. Two point conversion.
Shit stand Belding. But we'll wait and see before we
go to break. Seven to twelve left to go, opening quarter,
Belding marching down. They took the football, they won the
toss and want of the football moving from right to left.
(08:11):
On your radio dial, an eighty r drive touchdown is
good two point conversus good personal foul against Holland. So
they are gonna mark that off on the kickoff and
we'll keep it right here because while you're waiting for
that to sort out, they're ready for play here again.
But Geno tonight's starting lineups being brought to you by
supporting you. You think if they'll link it, they have
(08:33):
what you need to look your best creating a custom
solution tailor to your specific needs. Whether it's bulk orders,
promotion lineups, or a comprehensive company store. Find out more
at the Sporting letter you dot com. That's Sporting letter
youu dot com. So now Belding, with the personal foul
penalty assessed on the kickoff, will kick from the Dutch
forty five yard line, setting it up on the tee.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
This one should be unless they don't want.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
It to be a touchback. Joe Coles.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
It's really tempting to just outside it, right, Yeah, I
mean you're not losing a whole lot of field position
if I'm Belding, That's what I'm probably looking at.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Well, and look at Holland.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
They've got seven people up within that fifteen yard zone.
But Cole's gonna try and kick it away but doesn't
get all of it. Feel it on the top of
the ten yard line. Now go into the far sideline
trying to get up the field, fighting his way across
the twenty but shive the twenty five, rabbed by the
jersey and thrown down there. Nice return that time for Holland.
(09:36):
On the return for the Dutch was number three Tanner
Kingery and he's one you're gonna want to listen for
in this unbelievable wide receiving corps led by sophomore.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Quarterback who is the orchestrator.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Eli Walters threw for over five hundred yards a school
record last week and that three point loss to Comstock Park.
He was fabulous along with his favorite target and you
were talking about him early in number eight and that
is Finn Galloway. He'll move him around as a running
(10:08):
back as well. First down ten Dutch keeping on the ground.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
And people are wondering, we're kind of scrambling here a
little bit because they changed some numbers because of the
special jerseys tonight. So had a roster and then we
had a different one. So we beg your indulgence. Why
I tried to figure out who's who out there from
the roster.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
We had a couple of days ago Andresvalcamo the running
back out the carry of there and now Walter's fakes
to him goes to the air, complete god as man
that Xavior Murphy and a little post pattern close to
that first down market of thirty two. I was also
watching on that first play from scrimmage. He's one of
their seven two way starters going out that time. Was
the man who just got the two point conversion. They're
starting running back teak Van Dykin and shaking up over there,
(10:50):
might be looking at his ankle handoff. Now Holland fumbled
the football. I think he hopped right on it, though
the turf was kind to him. As crossing the thirty five,
we could gain out to the thirty six.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
They'll give him four that time as Volgemon.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
I don't know if it hopped up to him or
if he just kept falling for it, just fell out
of it by chance, but either way, he gets the
ball back. And now you start to see where Holland.
We saw Belding very impressiment for his drive. We kind
of knew what the schedule is going to be for them,
but I was interested to see this Holland offense, and.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
So far you can tell why they can be explosive.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Yeah, trips to the right, one receiver left, little miscommunication
are thrown between two wide receivers. Galloway was in the
area and also was Andrew Anderlick.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I was supposed to be Anderlick there.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
He was supposed to turn to to the right, and
he turned to his left when he was running up
the field, and that's what happened. Luckily nobody else in
the area because that could have been an easy interception.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Two wide receivers to the right, make that three to
the right, one to the left, to the watch side
of the field.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Third down and six, got.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
His man, that's Murphy makes a man miscross the midfield
stripe and into Belding territory to the forty four yard line.
Nice pick up that time of twenty. First down and
ten the Dutch on the move here down eight to nothing.
Eli Walters just out of that pistol formation, gets it,
looks and fires.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Well, and he had plenty of time too.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Walters now wants to go option pitch out wide Volkoma
Walters takes a shot and nice job by Volkma Strong
running inside the forty keeps the feat Churnding and he's
down to the thirty seven yard lot of Belding. Well partner,
the way this is setting up in the early going,
we might be in for a shootout.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yeah, let's let it breathe a little bit, but for sure,
this is kind of the game we thought we might
get when and I discussed coming out here, because both
teams like to try to light up that score. But
I like what Holland's doing so far, spreading the field
out but also mixing in those tough runs.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Van Dyke, by the way back in the game, got
taped up swinging out in the flats complete making a
man miss. Another one hits side of twenty five trying
down inside the twenty and knocked out of bounds after
the catch that time. Tanner king Aray the senior one
of the leading wide receivers coming into the contest, twenty
eight catches, three or forty and three touchdowns on the season. Obviously,
(13:03):
the main guy is Finn Galloway with twenty five catches,
almost five hundred yards and seven touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Well, there you see what Kingery can do.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Gets out in the flat there and makes a really
nice move to get extra yardage.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Touching the red zone.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Now they jump it across the middle, making a man
miss still on his feet inside the ten down to
the nine yard line on the grab. Anderlick so using
all of his wide receivers is the sophomore quarterback Eli Walters.
And look at his numbers, Bucks, you know, eighty nine
of one hundred and thirty four through four games, he's
got thirteen hundred yards passing twelve touchdowns. The big thing
is seven interceptions.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Got to clean that up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
They go wildcat here and on the Carrie Volkoma just
power football right at that Belding defense. As he plows
down to the six yard line. That'll be enough for
a first down. Just needed two, so it'll be first
in goal Dutch.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
And you see Belding. We talked about this a little
bit off air in our prep. Bet guy's already cycling
in up front. A lot of two way players for Belding.
You said it's seven starters, and that's gonna be an
issue if you got Chase C's offensive players for aland around.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
All night, Murphy and Andrew Lack in a slot left.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
They'll move Valkome over to the left of Walters, takes
a snap, sets fires too tall, good comforts over the
air for Belty. Jonah Hummel defensively was there. They were
trying to get the ball to king Erie.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Well, he sat there and then he looked at Kingery,
and I think what happened there for Walters is that
he thought that Kingery was still gonna keep going and
he just airmails it. I mean, that's Kingery's open there.
He just doesn't put it where he needs to. That's
a touchdown if he puts it in where Kingery was
running the.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Route second and goal for the six from the right half,
trips to the left, rolling to his left, Walters trying
to buy some time, slings out there, gunners man touchdown.
Finally breaking clear in the corner was anderlick from Elion
Walters six yards.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
So the score through the air.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
That's what they do air Dutch.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
It's eight to six.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Now, three forty five left to going. Here's where he decided,
as Will Siffen, you want to chase the two point
conversion to.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Just kick it away.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
He's gonna go with what they like to do, and
they're comfortable with Asher Folka is out there to kick it.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Yeah, and I like this here. You don't want to
chase even three forty five bucks. First get the extra point.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Snap is a good one, hold his town by.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Walter's kick is up, plenty of leg and into the
kids zone out there, beautiful setting. They've got the heel
in the south end zone here at Ray and Seusimith Stadium,
and with three forty five left to go on the
opening quarter, back and forth we go. It's Belding eight
Holland seven. You're listening to a week five edition of
the LMCU High School Football Game of the Week.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Well book, You know, we had a feeling just looking
at that Cowstock Park score last week it might be
first one to fifty and right now we're on pace.
Belding eight Holland seven will recap the scoring drives we
just tuned in. We're already just down to three forty
five left to go in this opening quarter. Belding with
their second offensive look from scrimmage handoff King right side
better John by the Holland defense, they'll stop for a
(16:01):
short gain at the twenty two, coming up off the
bottom of the pile defensively for touch. Simon Garza, the
junior linebacker on the inside.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Well already the better start for hout and there only
at two yard gain and you're right this one it
could be whoever has the ball last, because the way
that the offenses are clicking so far very impressive.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
One war receivers slit wind right straight T formation behind
senior quarterback Dawson Donovan. Second down and eight they work
from their own twenty two. Now they want to go
wide near side with two lead blockers getting the edge. Oh,
nice job defensively. As coming up to lay the stick
on him was Anderleck trying to get wide. He had
two blockers when he cut him down, Nick Wright for
(16:44):
a shorter gain at the twenty six pick up A

Speaker 3 (17:03):
You see immediately the adjustments that Holland has made defensively.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Good pursuit there out on right, Dawson Donovan handoff. That's
the guy who was so crucial the power back Tigan
Van Dykin back in there, ankle taped up and on.
He picks up the first down by just a yard.
Better job by the Holland defense so far in this series.
As they give up five, they do get the first
(17:26):
down to keep the drive a line for Belding, but
can't give up big chunks against this offense that, to
be honest with even their coach said in our notes,
like you referred to Buchino in the pregame, Monty Price
saying we haven't clicked yet, got shut out, which I
can remember the last time a Belding team's gotten shot
out twenty four to nothing in week two.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
I mean, recent is a good team.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah, don't get us wrong here, but they scored sixty
three right the week before, and you're thinking, okay, how
do we go from sixty three to zero and then eight?
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I mean, just really we got That's probably.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
How defensive line movement though by Holland up front?
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Was it okay? It is offside?
Speaker 3 (18:02):
I thought maybe one of the offensive players moved.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Rhodos Dala Rosa got a quick start.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Because money Price would have probably had a small stroke
over there if they had had another precon at penalty.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
But because that's what he wants cleaned up. He feels
like they're there.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
He was really excited about this team, as you said
in the preseason, just they haven't put it all together,
and it's tough.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I mean, come on, we were on high school once.
We didn't all have it together all the time. But
now you're trying to get twenty two guys or thirty
guys to get it all together.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Sometimes it doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Right away, handoff, left side counteraction across the forty close
to that first down marker. Again after the penalty, the
carry was nick right. And what's interesting about the quarterback
Dawson Donovan. He's not a running quarterback. You look at
his stats and not impressive at all. He's just kind
of a guy that is their glue guy. Obviously they
don't throw a lot, and he hasn't been bad throwing it,
(18:54):
but I mean you're talking to like fifteen attempts totally
in four weeks, so he's just got to kind of
manage the offen which is a little bit different because
usually Beldings tends running quarterbacks. But they got enough guys,
as we've seen on display already, they can carry this foot.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
I mean remember when they had Sevinski a couple of
years ago. He clearly, yes, this is one of the
featured players. But I think that it's okay that Donovan
does just what he's doing because sometimes you need.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
That wing back split the t to the right side,
pitch to King, King trying to pick his way good
job in that Holland defense, and they stop him for
a short game at the forty four with forward progress.
Two guys in there defensively for the Dutch Brayden Trevino,
the sophomore defensive lineman, also garzagain the linebacker.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Yeah, and did a really good job too. I think
it was Bolt or Gars. I didn't see the number,
but they did a really good job of setting the edge,
getting to the outside, not letting the running back get
outside the numbers and break it for a long game.
He turns it back inside in much better pursuit by
Holland that time than the first series that we saw,
and they get out there and stop him for a
(19:56):
short game.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
I think they're just gonna let the clock run out
of the quarter. We're down to eight seconds in Tickie, We're.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Gonna be out of here by eight to fifteen, Brett.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I will tell you this though.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Eight to seven was the score, remember of the Hopkins game,
and that's our score after one.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Quarter in this matchup of the ok Silver.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
After twelve minutes of play out here in Holland and
beautiful Ray and SEUs Smith Stadium, part of Hope College's
athletic complex our score after one, it's Belding eight Holland
seven Black Knights with the football.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
We come back as you're listening to a week and
five edition.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Of the LMCU High School Football Game of the Week.
Here on ninety six to one the game, Regina Bunch,
Chana Walck, You're back on this beautiful Priday night for
high school football. Second down at eight Holt split wide left,
King has it left side breaks it tackle. Initially hit
near the line of scrimmage the forty five, but a
tough back just bounces off that and out toward the
(20:47):
midfield stripe. They'll spot on a yard short at the
forty nine. Now a toruschill, third and three for the
Dutch defense. Can they get off the field here? When
we get a chance, we'll recap the scoring both teams
got on the board in that opening court. It's eight
seven Belding over Holland and the Black Knights with a
football near the midfield stripe.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
It might not even be who gets the ball, ass
It could be who actually gets a third down stop
in this game.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
That one wide receiver split wide left quarterback is Dawson.
Down of an under center straight t formation. They won't
use the pistol too much. Hand off Ethan King, big hole,
still on his feet, cuts to the outside, trying to
break a tackling. Oh the final guy to get him
dragged him down from behind on the tack was Garza
saving the touchdown, but not before King showed his explosiveness
(21:34):
there inside the Dutch thirty five. He's down to the
thirty one, first and ten Black Knights.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Well, that was a crucial play for Holland if they
could have gotten out the field.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
They did not in a long game.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
But also Garza is saving a touchdown there, gets him
back to first and ten and see what they can do,
maybe get a stop here.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Nielsen split wide right, they work from the left hash
ten forty nine, ticking left to go eight seven Belding
over the Holland Dutch. Our first broadcast of Holland as
far as a football broadcast covering the Dutchess. King over
the left side, across the twenty five down to the
twenty three yard line, dragged down from behind. There a
nice pickup. It's gonna set up second down and one.
(22:15):
After a gain of nine on first down, defensive players
being shuffled in for will Siffen and that Dutch defense
trying to find an answer here. It's been just powerhouse
football is expected for Belding and offensive line doing a
nice job for Maddy Price.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
At this pace, they are going to be very, very
tired teenage boys at some houses tomorrow morning, because everybody
is subbing in Belding, subbing in Holland subbing in just
a frenetic pace.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
So far tallon cavills, flit wide right.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Now they go van Dyke in on the counteraction from
left to right. Three Dutch defenders drygging him down and
now one player staying down looks like he got caught
up with his arm with his foot and telling you
a Teagan van dyk in the senior running back slash
linebacker starter is a load to bring down. Try to
get who the injured players might have landed on his
(23:06):
foot too and knocked the wind out of him.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
I think I think it is Wilhelm Bolt number fifty eight.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
He's up to his feet. I think that's exactly what happened.
I think he just kind of got the win knocked
out of him as they go out to.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Check on him.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Nine to fifty seven left to go, don't forget to
stay with us at halftime for the whole Jepson Physical
Therapy halftime show. Welcome back Rick Burkey from the up.
Great job by Bob Zackvilling in last week. Rick will
take you through all the scores and more. Plus we've
got game reporters all over the place.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Buck Gino.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Some intriguing games too, like ours that you look at
forest Hill's Eastern Act Grand appens Christian the Oka White,
Scott Moore out there, East Grend happens at Northfield. I
talked during the pregame Remy Monaghan back with us and
fired up to cover that game. It is their kickout
Cancer night there. We were there last year for that
with norf your special night. Rockford at Granville. Dan Hasty
is out there. We saw Rockford big win over East
(23:57):
Kent went at home. Huge crowd for that one.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
They were saying just under ten thousand bucks.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
You know.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Twenty one to fourteen the Rams get a ton also
Orchard View up Skeek and Catholic wiscon to Camp and
Hudson Wlllegennis don't sleep on that one with Lucas Simbol.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Yeah, I think that one for Hudsonville maybe you gotta
be aware of it being a trap game because of
the rugged ok red schedule.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
They have coming up.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
So the player that was shaken up comes out for
a play but seems to be all right. Just got
the wind knocked out of them as they go. Powerhouse
football again, king up the middle inside the fifteen, down
inside the ten of the eight yard line. That's just
Powerhouse coming right at you over the center between the cards,
wing t Football and Holland right now, I think just
(24:39):
has to bring more helmets up towards the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah, and the.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Thing that Building has done nicely is they've mixed in
just enough outside the tackles or counteraction rights to try
to keep some of those guys on us.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
But you're right, Bright, at some point.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
You kind of got to sell out and say, look,
if you're gonna beat us, it's gonna be how we
want you to.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Not just straight up the middle, straight tea behind Donovan.
First and goal from the eight. Donovan gona keep it
himself on the playfake haven't seen that yet. Touchdown Building
Black Knights around the right corner, and just as we
he said, he doesn't run too much. There you go,
at number fourteen Dawson Donovan as he makes it now
a fourteen to seven ball game, two point conversion upcoming.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Well, Dawson Donovan.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
We talked about him not really doing a lot of running,
and with the way that they run the offense so far,
they don't necessarily need him to be but they're kind
of just a little mix up on the outside because
Holland didn't hasn't seen that one yet, and one of
the linebackers breaks contained and then Donovan is able to
get to the outside.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Two point conversion. Donovan under center, straight tee behind him.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Nielson split Why I left ball pop loose and still
loose and they hop on it. But that'll bring it dead.
In high school football, you don't even need contact. Although
there was a Holland player there, and there's the Dutch
getting an important two point conversion. Stop to now just
keep it a seven point game, so they fifty seven
left to go here the first half. Our score now
(26:02):
reads Belding fourteen Holland seven. You're listening to and live
right here on a Week five edition of the LMCU
High School Football Game of the Week on ninety six
to one. The game, so the two point conversion no good,
and now Joe Cole set to kickoff left to right
(26:23):
towards the south end zone for Belding high and over
in short kick.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
That's gonna be taken by Volcome on.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
The started running back comes near side as a little
crease and down at the thirty.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Four yard line. It'll be first in ten Dutch there.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Let's recap the scoring Belding fourteen Holland seven with eight
fifty left.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
To go here in the second quarter, Buck Belding's first
drive eight plays, four minutes and forty eight seconds, touchdown
by right eight to nothing. Holland answers three yard touchdown
pass from Walters to Anderlik eight seven, and then Donovan
capping off the last drive eleven plays, eighty yards almost
seven minutes.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Now Walter's back on the attack, rolling to his right.
He wants to go to the air. They love that
first down in ten. He's got it, man, it's complete.
That's Tanner Kingery in the flat spelled. He backing off
a little bit. They don't want to give up the
big play, and that's good for six to the forty
yard line.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Drop there, second down and four island.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
We're trying to get everything we can in here, folks.
They're not waiting for anybody. It's a frenetic page, but
it's good. It's good football here, good competitive football and
Holland showing.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Well on offense.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Well in Holland signals in the play with coach Siffen
now rolling to his left. Nice job at squirredys shoulders
got the first down connection at the forty seven yard line,
and that's fellow sophomore Finn Galloway who had that record
breaking performance at Comstock Park last week. First catch of
the night for Galloway, number eight moves to James first
in ten. Nice pick up there out to the forty
seven yard line, and.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I like Walter's there.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
As he's rolling out to his left side, which is
very tough for a quarterback rolling out to the non
throwing side.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
He squares his shoulders up. Didn't have a.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Lot of pressure, but just enough pursuit. He turns it
up there and throws a really nice ball to Galloway.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
In traffic, I love watching coach Siffet who he's directing traffic,
telling VOLCMO where to go.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Lining up on the right side.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Now they fake to him go into his right Walters
as a man out there in the flats, complete hits
him right on the shoulders, tucks it inside on a
little curl. Rodney's across the midfield stripe close to the
first down marker to the forty five of Belling. And
that's Andrew Anderleck. And he's been the most impressive of
the three here tonight. I love his yak yards after
the catch.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Well, I mean he had to get a flare gun
to get Walter's attention out there.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
He was open for about an hour and finally Eli
gets it to him.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Trips left one receiver right handoff this time to keep
you honest.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
He's got the first down.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
He's a big backstrong with a little giddea up in
his step. Inside the forty to thirty nine is Andreas
Andreas Falkerma, the senior, one of only five senior starters
on offense.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
They have just three on defense.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
And here come the Dutch right back as we roll
under seven minutes left to go, first half, fourteen to
seven Belding, but Holland in Black Knight's territory, first and tended.
They're thirty nine, handoff again, vaultabo oh ballpop loose and
does Beling have it. They think they do, and they
(29:11):
do point no edication, but now they finally have it.
So Valkama got hit low and as he went down
coughed up the football and we talked about that. So
one thing for Holland they had four turnovers last week,
really cost them is when you get into a possession
game and they tend to do it when they're getting
a nice drive together, like on the other side of
(29:31):
the fifty. That happened twice last week against Comstock Park.
Credit Beldi with the turnover first and ten, they've got
it at their own thirty six.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
And Volkoma goes to the sidelines.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
I don't know if he was necessarily hurt or just
got the wind knocked out of him, but he kind
of labored to the sideline there.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Six down lineman now for the Dutch and look at
Belly trying to air it out. They read it coming
back to the football, but he just got too much
air underneath it.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Looking for Jonahummel.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Good coverage that time out there for Holand, Trey Knox
was on him and that was more like a punt.
He aired that thing out incomplete from Dawson Donovan second
and ten. But you saw Belding. They looked at the
read there and saw there were more interior defenders. So
let's try to work the edges.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
A little bit well.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
And you're right, I mean, that's not a bad read
there by Dawson Donovan. The problem is, as you mentioned,
not a well practiced thrower of the football, and he
had it open. It's just there's a lot of timing
there that's off and he throws it into the sidelin.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
And here we go on the delay, haand off ethan
king better job by the Holland defense though, coming in
pinching on the outside that time was number fifty two
Ryan Wersma, sophomore linebacker. And that's what the adjustment has
been from the defensive coordinator for Holland. They're going six
down lineman, three linebackers, and basically they got two guys
in the secondary just kind of roaming if anyone's free.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I mean, if they could get any more people in there,
they would. I mean it's pretty much saying, hey, look,
if you're going to go outside the tight end, and
then go ahead, because we're going to make sure that
we stopped up the middle stuff.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
And they got the down in distance they want now,
but you know third nine after that incompletion on first down,
straight T formation behind quick candoff King and.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Look at him with his strength pulling would be tacklers.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
He was corralled around the forty one, carried him for
an extra four yard to the forty five to set
up now fourth and one in a decision for Monty Price.
You're gonna go on a nice carry that time by
their go to back, the junior Ethan King, number one.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Yeah, I don't think he has any doubt or any pause.
I think before it here and he feels with the
way they've been playing they.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Can get this one yard and right now. I wouldn't
doubt him.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Camden Holt split wide left on fourth and one from
their own forty five, straight T formation behind down of
it under center, takes the snap handoff from left to right.
They hit him in the backfield, He surges fort and
he just got it.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
They went with the big back.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Van Dyken needed a yard, got a bet a yard
and a half, moved the chains first and ten Black Knights.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yard in the quarter. It was Carl yard in an eighth.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
I mean he needed thirty six inch and he probably
got thirty eighth. I mean, really good effort there by Holland.
Just you give up the big run on third down
if you can minimize that run. Yeah, that's that was
the killer in that series there, the King run on
third down.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Jonah Hummell split wide right, ball in the middle of
the field, moving left to running Raidodal the Belding Black
Knights coming in at three and one. Three time defending
champsy Oka say we play action. Donovan airted out throws.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
It out there.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
He's got humble complete at the Dutch twenty yard line
and then knocked down by three defenders in the secondary.
Better throw that time by Dawson. Donovan and Hummell had
a couple of steps at time of the Holland secondary.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Well, and that time they run the same action that
they'll delayed handoff that they've been running it before, but
this time they get the eyes in the backfield on
the defensive backs. And it's a tough job back there
because you got to make sure you got run contained first.
And then they go back to all of a sudden
wile they're running the pass play. They just weren't not
(33:00):
able to get back there fast enough.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
I mean it was a rainbow.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
It wasn't really a strike, but Donovan puts it where
he needed to and that's a big gain for them.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
On first down, Nielsen in now as the wide receiver
they'll rotate in with the play. He split wide right,
straight t formation, handoff left side with two lead blockers,
cuts up at the fifteen, dances inside the ten, still
on his feet inside the five.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
It's gonna be first in goal.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
After the run by Nick Wright. You can see as
their speedback, they like to get him on the edge
first in goal. Black Nights good blocking that time, with
the other two backs in the backfield to lead the way. Well,
Holland did a pretty good job. I believe that was
maybe breeding Trevino out there setting the edge. I mean
he gets out there, doesn't let him get outside the numbers.
The problem is the pursuit inside was not there.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
That allows Right to cut it up inside and make
a big gain.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Get it the first and goal three.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Point thirty nine and ticket left to go first half.
Belting leads it over Holand fourteen to seven on this
beautiful Friday night in late September. Glad to have you
long for this week five edition of the LMCU heightst
Cool Football Game of the Week. Tallon Calvo now split
wide left is the wide receiver Donovan under center from
the left hash first in goal from the Dutch six,
(34:09):
trying to add to their lead hand off Ethan King
left side, and he drags a would be tackler down
to about the three yard line. In their defensively for
Holland was Ryan Wersmay again, the sophomore linebacker number fifty two.
It'll be second end goal and they'll spot him at
the two bucks.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
If you're Howland, you just got to try to dig
in here because you have to remember a couple of things.
Number one, you were able to stop him on a
two point conversion. To number two, you get the ball
here after whatever happens, you also get the ball to
start the second half, So not all is lost. They
can get a big stop here or make Belding work
for this. They still have some canvas to work with.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Wide receivers split wide left on second to goal from
the two Donovan inside NF King. You didn't get there.
Great job by the penetration by the Holland front six,
and once again in there, wer'sma has been all over
the place defensively.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Yet time out. But I don't know who took it.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
The Dutch I think took the time out.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
I did, yeah, And that's I like that call there
by coach Siffin because he's trying to conserve time if
Belding were to score. It's not that he doesn't have
confidence in the defense, but he's also trying to save
them as much time as possible to get the ball
back and perhaps go down and score themselves.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
So it's third and goal from the one. We'll keep
it round here. Two thirty one left to go. First
half in a fast moving first half on my dad,
stay with us. The Uls Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show
coming up, and tonight's players have worked hard to get
their bodies ready for competition and else. Jepson Physical Therapy
wants you to stay in the game no matter what
level of activity desire. They get patients same within twenty
four to forty eight hours. Hulst Jefson Physical Therapy Restoring Body,
(35:47):
Reviving Spirit and Buck Gino the Chess matches on. We
saw that after the opening quarter and both teams scored,
and this tempo is exactly what we thought right Holland
tried to do it through the air, Belding obviously doing
mostly on the ground. And it's a matter of, Okay,
what adjustment's going to be made. I think after the
halftime break, with that locker room discussion, which team can
(36:07):
execute here in the second half, the game plan to change.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Yeah, and you also you have a turnover, right, That's
really the only difference so far in this football game
is the Vulkan a turnover. Other than that, it's been
swimming going swimmingly for both offenses.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Thirty goal from the one.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
You have to believe Ford on territory here.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
If they don't get a Dawson Donovan under center, straight
t formation handoff, big fellow Van Dyking powers this way
in for the touchdown from one yard outs. They went
with number twenty two from left to right with the
counteraction Teagan Van Dyken, and it's six more on the
board for Bellty to increase their lead to twenty to seven.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Well, I mean they made him work for it, did Holland.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
But boyd Van Dyking is just a load to bring
down and big backs, especially in this type of offense,
can thrive and Van Dykin that time piles it.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
In for the ends. Up piles it into the end
zone for the touchdown.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
So nick Wright struck first twenty nine yard touchdown run.
The last time it was Dawson Donovan the quarterback in
eight yard touchdown run and now teaking Van Dykin getting
in the scoring act. They'll go for two one receiver
is Nielsen to the right. Dawson Donovan fakes trying to
get around the edge again, spins away from the Tackloid
dives into the end zone for two. Nice move to
get away from the tackle of Andrew Anderlick. And that's
(37:23):
the veteran savvy Dawson Donovan to make it now a
fifteen point game to twenty five left to go. First half.
Our score Belding twenty two. Holland said to it live
right here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
The press box at event working in officials tonight six.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Joe Coles kicking it off for Belding and having trouble
that initially hit inside the twenty on one hopins Finn Galloway,
the sophomore, but he's dangerous.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Lookout coming to his near side. Oh gonna reverse.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Field, never go out and he's gonna be caught way
back inside the five down at the three yard line.
Great job by the building kickoff team. First guy there
was Camden Holtz.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Well, you see that sometimes with teams they're in a
position to win or be successful for the first time
in a while. That's that's when if you're Finnallley, just
take what you can get.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Eli Walters out of his own end zone, fires a
strike on a down out pattern close to the first
don marker. Great yards after the catch across the ten,
it's Kingery again, who's been his favorite target, Tanner Kingery,
the senior number three, and they will give him a
first down out to the fifteen yard lines.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
That's gonna be good for a gate of twelve again.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Walters puts it right on the numbers that time, first
down and ten Dutch. As we roll under two minutes
left to go, first out twenty two to seven, Belty
Walters once to his left trying to square up.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Look out, here comes the pressure.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Gonna have to tuck in and try to run and
he's across the fifteen. Did get positive yards. Good job
by Walters out to the seventeen before he was swarmed
under there on the tackle. Defensively for Belding was cam
Reynolds for the black nine.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Well, there you can see Eli Walters, the sophomore. You
can sell his preferences, certainly not to run the foot. No,
he waited until the last possible moment to pull the
cord there. If he turns it up earlier, he might
have been able to get a few more yards.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Trips to the right, they worked in the left hash
pump fake.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
He's looking outside, got Murphy out there and almost intercepted.
Playing center field that time was Tyler Simon. He just
couldn't haul it in at the forty five, but he
was looking for the senior Murphy. Brocket covers the good
job by belding defensively.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Well, and that's something as a younger quarterback. He also
the pump fake. Yeah, he beats his man off the
land scrimmage. There's another guy back there. They have double
coverage on Murphy, but he doesn't recognize Simon coming over
the top. Airs it out a little bit too much
and they're lucky. Did they get to try it for
third down here instead of having their second turtle.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
He beat the quarterback Dawson Donovan, but he had help
with the safety.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Now Eli Walter steps up in the pocket.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Look out, he's gonna go down fall pop loose, And
that's a live football picking it up.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
And trying to get what he can.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Was Aiden Segovia after the sack that time, and in
there to bring him down before the ball pomp loose
was Antonio Smith, the big defensive lineman number fifty.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Eight for Belding.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Yeah, and that's what you're gonna have to try to
do if your Belding is you're gonna have to get
back there and pressure the quarterback because Walt, if he
has the time, and we saw it in the first drive.
If he has the time, it's not gonna go well.
For the Belding defense. You have to get pressure on
this quarterback. You have to make him run around and
change his eye level or his cone of vision. Remember
(40:39):
when you played Madden the cone a vision Yep, you
got him. When you run, that thing gets real tight.
Well that's what happens with Eli Walters. When he starts
to run, that cone of vision gets real small and
you limit who he's gonna be able.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
To throw the ball to. And we saw it on
not only the sack but also the run on first down.
So that's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Belding's key here now with a minute and four, as
Belding calls a timeout to conserve clock for them to
get one more crack.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
At it is going back to punt is landon ben
Ingen the Junior.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
He's got the pink shirt on underneath the black b
nice jerseys tonight for be nice night here in Holland.
And on fourth and seven has to punt it away.
A low snap gets it away from his five wobbly spiral,
gonna hit the midfield stripe. Well, he feels it, wow,
and that's gonna be a penalty. That's what I thought.
Donovan just clipped him in the back. I don't think
he expected it his return. Man, there, he's going to Humble.
(41:33):
We'll pick it up and go and Humble. Good return.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
But that was an easy call. And I'm not laughing
at Dawson.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
I'm laughing at Mighty Price because Mighty Price is just
looking I'm going, dude, yeah, come on, man, like right.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
In front of the official, right in front of everybody.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Like locking the back right.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
And the thing is, I don't like you, like you said,
I don't think he believed that Humble was gonna take
that ball based on the gunner being right there, and
also he's just pushing because he doesn't think it's and
he thinks it's the nothing play, and all of a sudden,
Humbill picks it up and Humbo kind of messes that
up for everybody because now it's a ten yard penalty
(42:11):
and it's set them back, and now they've got to
go sixty five yards and fifty seconds third down.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
Excuse me, first down in ten They just haven't changed
the down marker. They move it back to the thirty
five after the block and the back penalty on the
punt return. We do have a rapid radio scoreboard update
just down the road. Holland Christian's homecoming Holland Christian over
Ottawa Hill's twenty one to nothing seven thirty eight left
first half. Our friend Eric Grafsman reporting that score play
action plenty of time. Donovan flushed out a piker on
(42:39):
into his left trying to square his shoulders, fires across
the middle incomplete.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
He had a man opening.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
He took a shot afterwards at the forty yard line,
unable to come down with it. Was Skyler Miller, one
of their leading attackers defensively, is a good hit by
the Holland defender, but just a little bit too tall
in the delivery that time by Donovan Well and that's a.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Good hard nose play by the defensive back there, Aidan Segovia,
because Miller is an eligible receiver, he's the intended receiver
and he's going up for the ball there. If he
makes that catch, he's gonna be in Hohland territory. So
Segovie has got to bring in the hit stick and
he really put it to Miller there, and you can
see there. That's why they don't throw a ton because
(43:20):
Donovan just doesn't have the pinpoint accuracy.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Dutch trying to get out of the half without any
more scoring handoff on the delay, big hole left side.
He's got a block or two across the midfield. Try
to look out. Hit tige the forty, hit tige the
thirty twenty five, twenty fifteen ten five Did he get in?
He did, touchdown Nick right sixty five yards for the
(43:44):
score I boarded. He turned on the after burners once
he picked up that block on the edge and crossed
the fifty on the angle. He just outran the Holland
secondary and Nick Wright has his second rushing touchdown of
the night, twenty nine yards the first one, that one
for sixty five.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Well, and that one I think Holland just gets caught
and napping a little bit because they think, okay, incomplete pass,
we just have to we just got to hold our
ground here, and they run that misdirection again. Somebody loses contained,
that weak side gets blown out.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
Good blockdown, feel too, absolutely going for two different back
end there, sort of like a Vandykin size back from
right to left. This time on the carry for two
was Noah Writtenborg is good Writtenberg, excuse me the junior
and he takes it in for the two point conversion. Boy,
what a costly touchdown to give up there for the Dutch.
(44:41):
But just under a minute to play in this first half,
there's only twenty nine seconds left. So the way that
they've been lining up to kick off, we'll keep it
right here.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
But now what a change of events.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Belding just unable to be slowed down by this Dutch defense,
leads it now thirty to seven.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Well, that that long run there by right, just a
tough one to swallow if you're Holland, because you feel like,
even though you get the ball to start the second half,
if you can just get a stop there, right and
it's not it wasn't a new play.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
I mean they've seen that one before.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
Forty two seconds left here, I mean yeah, you just
feel like if you can just make them, you don't
have to necessarily get us.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
You just have to wait for the clock. You just
have to play the clock against them. And they bust
a big run there and now you're you're really up
against it here and right now that the pivot point
of this game is that fumble on the second possession
for Holland.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
Joe Coles to kick it away, high end over short
kick to the left side of the field, taking another
fifteen on the fly across the twenty twenty five thirty
and it was Galloway, Finn Galloway, the sophomore, across the
thirty with a nice return out to the thirty two
yard line.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Give him return of seventeen.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
It'll be first and ten Dutch there twenty one seconds
left to go. By the way, our Lake short crew
not very far from us tonight, just on the road
at beautiful double decker Panther Stadium on the campus of
West Douta High School. They got an no care Red
Lake shore matchup Grand Haven at West Ottawa Jase Nutt
and Tom Kendra. Beautiful sight lines there at Panthers State
w and I joyed doing a playoff game there. That's
(46:14):
over on one oh seven m us the most if
you want to check it out. First down and ten
tight trips to the left. Walter's under center, gonna hop
it out there. That's a free football lookout. They try
to do the double passing. Oh, he took a shot
ball pop loose. Gotta be careful here and holland Is
coughed it up again and coming up with.
Speaker 4 (46:33):
The fumble recovery for Belding is Ryan Woods.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
Well, they tried to swing it out there, but Walters
short armed it, it hopped and unable to feel at
that time because he wanted to throw it a second time.
Was Anderlick.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Yeah, and I think there that's a little bit too
much dip on the chip.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
Yeah, it's thirty to seven.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
You're reeling, and I think for that play to be called,
you've got to have momentum on your side. Yeah, that's
not one you pull out of the bag when you're
down thirty seven. That's when you're picking up when you've
got confidence and.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
You're going good and unfortunately it comes back to by
and especially when turnovers have haunted you this season. We
mentioned four turnovers last week and they lose by three
thirty to seven. Here Belding, they're not done yet, twelve
seconds left to go. They want to fire for the
end zone, cross the middle, crossing route down to the
one yard line. Almost got in beautiful throw that time
(47:27):
by Dawson Donovan on the post route and making the
catch was Jonah Hummel and Belding will take a time
out with five seconds left.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
At the one.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
Well, they also have another time out, right, so they
can definitely if they run a play.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Wow, they don't get it. You have one more in
the chamber.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
If you're just tuning in one a turn of events
literally in the last what buck forty seconds of game clock.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Yeah, I mean we were headed for a pretty back
and forth affair. The fumble, Okay, that happens, But in
the last fifty one seconds we've had potentially two touchdowns
and a turno. I mean, that's just how if you're Holland,
that's how you lose games. It's not the fact that
(48:15):
you had him fumble, it's how everything just kind of
piles up and like I said, I just the double
pass or whatever they were trying to do there at
the end of the half.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
I mean, you just can't do that.
Speaker 3 (48:27):
You try to run something else, but that that really
that's just playing right into Belding's hands.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Dawson Donvan under center first to goal for the one
after the timeout, five seconds left on the game, clock
up thirty to seven, trying to take advantage of a
Holland fumble here in their own territory. Hand on.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Oh he didn't get it, King, and he.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
Didn't get it. The clock gonna run out. I don't
think they got the time.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Out, no, because King was still running.
Speaker 4 (48:51):
He was still trying to fight his way in.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
And Naughty Price upset. But I mean there's nothing wrong
with that. Ethan King was still moving.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
Oh, he's at it as running back. Yes, Hey, you're
not gonna make it.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
That's tough though for a running back, right, because he's
trying to I mean he was a one yard line.
Speaker 4 (49:08):
Yeah, he's not getting He's not mad the officials.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
He's mad because Ethan King took five seconds to get
no yard.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
Wow, that's a huge stop, is Holland.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Boy, you can take that. I mean, it's been a
rough first half.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
But if you're Holland, you can take that into the
locker room and say, hey, look we've emptied the clip
in our own foot here, but.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
We got a big stop after that mistake. We get
the ball here.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Let's start a whole new half, turn fresh, and see
what we can do to come back.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Monty Price told us we haven't played a complete game yet.
Speaker 2 (49:36):
Well, guess what.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
That's a pretty complete first half is eight leaded by
twenty three at the break. We'll see what happens in
the second half coming up though, after one half of
playing this week five edition of the MCU High School
Football Game of the Week. Our score here at Ray
and Sewsmith Stadium, Belding thirty Holland seven.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
Stay with us after.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
The break where you go back to the studios in
downtown Grand Rapids. Rick Burkey's gonna have the whole Jeffson
Physical Therapy halftime show that's a week continue after this
on your home for high school Football ninety six to
one the game.
Speaker 5 (50:18):
And that's gonna wrap up the whole Stepson Physical Therapy
halftime show again. We'll be gearing up for the Meyer
High School Scoreboard Show. Following our game of the week,
we'll have scores, interviews, stats, and our healthcare associates playing
players of the game in games across West Michigan.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
So look forward to that.
Speaker 5 (50:34):
Make sure you join us on your way home from
a game or dinner or wherever you're out and about
in West Michigan on this gorgeous late September evening. But
we're going to head it back outside to our ninety
six to one game of the week. Ray and Sue
Smith Stadium at Hope College is building in Holland, squaring
off in an important Okay silver match. Here's Bred Bikita
and Bucks Gino.
Speaker 1 (50:55):
All right, great job, Rick Berkey into all our game reporters.
You'll hear it all over again as Rick mentioned the
Meyers core board show once we're done here at the break,
as the teams come back out to warm up on
the turfy at Ray and Sewsmith Stadium, thirty to seven,
Belding over Holland. It was eight seven if you're just
tuning in after one. Belding led it and then some
turnover was really costly. Holland did dodge a bullet right
(51:16):
at the end of the half where they had it
on the one and couldn't get in for the Black Knights.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Otherwise they could be even worse.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
But let's recap that first half scoring and we'll do
it with the MKD Funer Homes scoring summary.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
Buck Gino, Well you kind of ruined it. First quarter. Yes,
it was eight seven.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
First it was right from twenty nine yards out, and
then the two point conversion was good. Holland answering on
their first drive, Walters to andrelich Folk at the p eighteen.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
It was eight to seven.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
Then Belding right back down the field, ending with Dawson
Donovan's ninety yard touchdown run. The two point conversion failed
and it was fourteen to seven. We hadn't had a
punt or anything else. There's just three straight possessions, three
straight scores. But then Holland fumbling the football on their
ensuing possession Andreas Volkum up fum in his own and excuse.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
Me, in deep in Belding territory.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
They turned that around nine play drive capped by a
Van dyke in one yard touchdown plunge Donovan as a
two point conversion. It's twenty two to seven, and then
Belding gets the ball back one more time. They thought
maybe they weren't going to get it back, but they
got it one more time after a fumble deep in
their own territory, this time by Holland. But and like
(52:25):
you said, they dodged a bullet there. But in between
their Belding scoring a sixty five yard touchdown run the
second of the night for Wright and Rittenburg, the two
point conversion, and that was the score thirty to seven
at half for the Black Knights.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
Well, there's the MKD Funeral Homes, every story, every moment,
every day, first half scoring summary and folks, they've been
doing it through four generations. That respected family tradition continues
at MKD Funeral Homes by creating distinctive celebrations of life
at the greatest possible value at any one of their
eight locations in West Michigan. You can find out the location,
hears you add more about what they offer at MKD
Funeral Home dot com. The good news buck China, before
(53:03):
you get to your keys to the second half is
five touchdowns up on the board for our Touchdowns for
Kids campaign. That's already three hundred and fifty dollars in
a donation from LMC. We'll see what happens in the
second half, and that alone, let alone the Lakeshore Game
of the Week tonight, is gonna push our total to
twenty eight hundred dollars for the season to kids food
Basket donation directly from LMC with our Touchdowns for Kids
(53:25):
campaign now in its fourth season.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
Well, the keys for the holland Dutch in the second half,
I know it's be nice night, but you don't have
to be so nice that you give them the ball
extra time.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
So stop doing that.
Speaker 3 (53:37):
If you're the Dutch, you really just have to stop
having the turnovers and they can. I don't pull even Okay,
we don't know about that, but I feel like if
you look at it, and this is gonna sound real dumb,
but that's why I excel at thirty to seven, it's
not that much of a blowout. Now, I really don't
believe that these teams are that far apart. Now Building
is playing impressively and we'll get to their keys in
(53:58):
a second. But I just think for Howland, it's just
a mistakes and their margin for air is so thin
playing against a team like Belding. That's why it's thirty
to seven. The key for Belding. They gotta forget it's
thirty to seven. They gotta come out and play. Monty
Price has been begging them to play a full forty
eight minutes. I don't know if he's gonna be satisfied
or not tonight, but he got pretty good first twenty four.
(54:20):
He is going to look for that same effort in
the second half because he knows that Holland offense can
explode on demand, and if they have a couple of
things go the other way, this could be a ballgame again.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
They were down twenty eight points at Compstock Park last
week in the second quarter, got a score to make
it a three score game before half, and then probably
should have won that game.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
They lost at.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
Fifty six to fifty three, a short squip.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
Kick by Coles.
Speaker 1 (54:44):
They got a hop on it, and they did for
Holland diving on top of it at the thirty five.
They're gonna have good field position, I believe was number nine.
That's Trey Knox, the starting defensive back.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
And I don't think Cole is meant to do that now,
kind of like I don't mean to shank it the woods.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
Off the tee.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
He kind of caught that one fat and then all
of a sudden, Holland's back to and they're.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
Like, guy, we got to cover the ball.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
Nobody has covered the ball, And finally Trey gets on
the ball and they still get pretty good field position.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
Good news for Holland. They start offensively with the football.
They want to go for the home run ball. Walters
has a man outer. He's got Murphy thirty twenty five
to twenty inside the fifteen, caught from behind, but not
before he's all the way down to the Black Knights
thirteen yard line. Well, that's the way to take the
top off. Walters over the top to the senior savior Murphy.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
It feels like a carbon copy of last week against
comstock Park. They get that early score in the second
half and that kind of gave them the catalyst to
make that big comeback that just fell short.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
But man, I mean, that's just a play that you
feel like you could have all night.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
Love the call by will Siffin, the fourth year head
coach for Holland, going to his right, Walters throwing into
the end zone.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Got his man is he in?
Speaker 1 (55:56):
I thought he was touchdown to late call Tanner Kingery
So two plays to start the second half of just
like that, Holland on the board again thirty to thirteen.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
Well, that's just a really nice job of Walter's getting
out to the right, extending the play, moving the pocket
a little bit and he finds Kingriy. This time he
doesn't wait, throws it exactly where he needs to go
and Kingry makes the fighting catch for the touchdown.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Another touchdown for kids, kids food basket, gonna get another
fifty dollars do Nation? I was quick two plays and
now trying to tack on the extra point. Asher Folkert
low lying driving kick and he missed it a little
bit right out of the hold of Eli Walters.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
So no good and.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
With eleven twenty eight left to go into third our
scoring now raids Belding thirty Holland thirteen the Dutchi kickoff.
Speaker 4 (56:46):
We return after this on naughty six to one, the.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Game just carrying it out there. Oh, welcome back to Holland.
Repeck to Buckchino and Polker doesn't get this one into
the end zone. Take it on the flight at to
five by the starting running back Ethan King and look
out he is explosive across the twenty five thirty still
(57:10):
on his feet and finally tripped up, almost lost to
football like when he went airborne there at the thirty
eight yard line. Good return that time of thirty three
by Ethan King, number one first down in ten Belding.
Now their first offense possession of the second half.
Speaker 3 (57:25):
Boy, it feels like that stop on King on the
last play of the first half might be the only
one that we get all night.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
Rather, it's just been that type of game.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
I tell you what to we can't emphasize enough. I mean,
Belvin veteran club trying to lay their most complete game.
Is now some movement up front? Oh no, defensive offside Holland.
Speaker 2 (57:44):
Yeah, somebody stepped into the neutral zone early.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
What I was about to say, though, is when you
look up and down the roster, a lot of sophomores
and juniors for coach Siffin and this Holland staff, I
mean they're going to continue to get better as a program,
especially competing in the ok SO when they switch a
couple of years ago with the realignment, great move for Holland.
But I mean, as I emphasized before, three seniors on
defense as far as starters five on offense, and your
(58:11):
two star players on offense, only sophomores, so exciting times
ahead for the Dutch good crowd here.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
Yeah, I mean they've got twelve seniors out of thirty
eight roster, so plenty of kids gonna be back next year.
Speaker 1 (58:22):
First down in five, handoff up the middle, tripped up
as Ethan King, but not before he takes it across
the midfield stripe and got a building first down, only
needed five because the penalty and he's down to the
forty seven yard line. First and ten move that chains
Black Knights. And this is a steady die of if
you're just tuning in what they did in the first
half to build.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
That lead, well, and it's been pretty consistent it it's
nothing too flashy. Yes, Donovan had a couple of passes,
but really it's been like you said, this power football.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
Donovan under center, handoff left side over the left guard.
They time trying to break free was Right, who's had
a big night. By the way, if you're just tuning
in as well. Number six Nick Right, the junior running
back of twenty nine yard touchdown run and a sixty
five yard touchdown run late in that first half.
Speaker 3 (59:13):
Sounds like you're trying to get the awards stuff out
early tonight. I feel like you're trying to put their
finger on the scale.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
No.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
I mean, as he's had a heck of a night,
has Nick right the junior running back, and but the
night's not finished. No, and we've got plenty of time
that somebody else could rise.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
To the occasion.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
Second down in five handoff and penalty flag comes out.
Rotating in was the big back, Noah Rittenberg. We saw
him a couple of times in that first half. He
comes in for Vandykin. Now this one will go against Belding,
so they're gonna get the five yards that they just
gained back ten or nine left to go. Third quarter,
thirty thirteen Belding over Holland. This okay, silver matchup.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
I'm just chuckling because I'm looking at Monni Price. I
really respect and admire what he's done with his Belding
program after coming from Reed City, trying to restore what
Erth Zigler had back in the day, and after that penalty,
he's just it's like you said, he's trying to get perfection.
He's just it's just out of their reach there, and
that's what you can't have.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Big hole Ethan King in the middle inside the thirty,
inside the twenty five, and the safeties have to dry
him down here the twenty yard line on the stop
was Draine Ox. He doesn't get him. Ethan King is
on his way to the end zone. He just hit
that hole right there over center, big hole by that
offensive line's done a tremendous job, and Belding's on the
move again, trying to regain that lead that they had
(01:00:39):
before the Holland score to start this second half.
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Well, that was where the Holland defense was most vulnerable
last week against Comstock Park. And it doesn't really matter
what you show up as formation.
Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
Wise, it is kind of a sticking point for that
defense right in the middle. Not where you want the
weakness to be, to be quite honest. But they've just
Beldings really been picking on in between the guards.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
Try didn't stack to the right side.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
They'll run that way.
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
Rittenberg upended inside the ten, and I think the defensive
back got the worst of that is he's still down.
Rittenberg a big back, and he just kind of lowered
the boom and this is gonna be an injury timeout.
Nine oh six left to go. They'll stop the clock.
Wanted to credit that offensive line, Antonio Smith. That's androick
down Xavier Strickland. Yeah, he is shaken up. Trainers come out.
(01:01:28):
Drew Shearer on that offensive line, Big number seventy five,
Colton Humble, we talked about him, Jamison van Aker as well,
and with a timeout on the field due to injury,
we'll step aside as well. Nine oh six left to
go into third it's Belding, thirty holand thirteen Black Knights
on the move.
Speaker 4 (01:01:45):
We continue after this on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
Back to the action here in Holland. They go with
Ethon King on first and goal from the one. Not
much running over that right side. He was upended nicely
by William Bolt, sophomore defensive line another sophomore for the Dutch,
a lot on this roster. As we roll towards eight
thirty left to go third quarter, Belding tried to add
to the lead again thirty to thirteen. They lead it
(01:02:16):
and improved to four to one on the season. Handoff
Writtenberg touchdown right side from four yards out. Big number
twenty four gets into the act. That's his first rusting
touchdown of the night. Noah Rittenberg, well and it going
to the sideline.
Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
I think that's probably a bigger blow offensively right now
for Howland than it is defensively.
Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
But Belding just keeps on rolling. Vinn Galloway came in
for him, by the way in the secondary.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
But I think if your money price, you're gonna be
very pleased to watch this film offensively tomorrow. Defensively, Jerry's
still kind of out.
Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
Yes, you have gotten a couple of turnovers, but Holland
has moved the ball. Donovan under centers. He'll go for
two straight tee behind him, same play, Rittenberg right side
easily into the end zone for two more. And so
now thirty eight thirteen, it's a twenty five point lead
for Belding over Holland with eight twenty two left to
(01:03:12):
go in the third quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
Time out of the field, we'll step aside as well.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
You're listening to this week five edition of the LFCU
High School Football Game of the Week on this beautiful
Friday night in Holland here on nineties six one the game,
another short kick, it seemed like off the side of
the foot that time of the kickoff for Joe Coles,
taken again by Trey Knix, They're gonna have a good
field position.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Tries to bring it to the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
Of the field, might have gotten more running room. Who
would have stayed on the sideline to the far side,
but across the thirty five out to the thirty six
yard line, that's where the Dutch will go to work offensively.
Here down twenty five trips to the right. Eli Walters
takes a snap from center, got a man open to
the second level. Did he get a foot down?
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Makes the catch?
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
No good effort by Tanner Kinger. He's had a big
night receiving the football. And I tell you he was there.
He was between the first level flat and then the
safety over the top, which they had that bracket coverage
again with Skyler Miller and a good throw by Walters.
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
Just couldn't get the foot down.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Yeah, And I think that as he gets older, Eli
will trust that throw and throw it just a little
bit earlier. Kingry was open and the numbers as Walters
was coming over, and he just waits a little bit
too long. Still a nice play and nice throw, just
a little bit long. I think if he throws it
one step early, he's in bounds. It's a big game
for in the.
Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
Middle of field.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
They'll bounce it out now, two wide receivers each way.
Ball come in the backfield. Walters flus out of the
pocket to his left, squares his shoulders, fires downfield, almost
a fingertip catch by Aleik.
Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
Good to see him back in there.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
So he was shaking up early, defensively incomplete stops the
clock with eight or two left to go. Third and
ten coming up for the Dutch. By the way, let's
go to the rapid radio scoreboard. We've got an update
for you. Just down the road. Holland Christian at the
half now for their homecoming game, thirty four to nothing
over Ottawa Hills.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
And our reporters at Forrestol's Northern who if they don't
send me the scores won't get dessert tonight is thirty
four to fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Mis skiing up on the.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Huskies, Big Red sending a message Shane fear for the
kind of dialing up that defense. Third down and ten,
Walters rolling to his right out of the fistal formation
under pressure, dumps it short and unable to make the
fingertip catch. Low was carry That was due to the
pressure coming. And I don't blame him because big number
fifty seven was breathing down his neck that time. Was
(01:05:29):
it sixty seven? It was Brayden Harrington sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
Yep. Well and Beldy had to do that. They knew
they had to bring pressure.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
Didn't really get a chance in the first series because
they just Murphy got behind the defense and they went along.
But that's what you're gonna have to do against Walter's Wow,
how I do like his poise? Yeah, under the pressure,
it feels like he's not rushing the ball, He's not
making bad decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
He just doesn't have a lot there.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Van Ingen to kick it away, no pressure, low wobbly
spiral inside the thirty five, taken by Humble, look out
Humble near side. He's got some blockers across the midfield
stripe down the left sideline. Lowers the bum on Van Ingen.
And what a return by Jonah Hummel inside the twenty
five all the way down to the Dutch twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Three yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:06:17):
I'm about number zero lowering the boom the senior Jonah
Hummel on a big punt returning. Everything now is clicking
for Monty Price and the Black Knights here in this
second half.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
Well on those low line drives. Those are the ones
that are easily returnable.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Yeah, and even though he has to take it out
of hop, Humble it gets it in stride and there's
not bad coverage down there. There's just not enough right
because those line drives don't let everybody get down there,
and so nobody's really where they're supposed to be. And
Humble just goes right up the middle and has a
really nice return into Dutch territory.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
First down and ten Belly looked to add to their
total here thirty eight thirteen, elaited, it's still over seven
thirty and ticking left to go. Third quarter play action
Dawson Donovan crossed the middle, forced it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Into coverage, tipped and it's intercepted.
Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
Now the ballpops lose. I think they're gonna say it's
an interception, and then a fumble recovery at the ten
yard line, but picking it off was Aiden Segovia, four
holland finally the Dutch get a turnover.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
They were looking for buck it exactly, it exactly is
playing there. They had a tip drill and then a
fumble and almost lost it. No, that's a really good
play there by Segovia and I think just overall by
the defense. They kind of smelled that one out Monty
Price and the Belding. Black Knight's kind of going for
the kill shot there up twenty five after a nice return,
(01:07:37):
got a lot of house money that they were playing with,
and they throw it deep. Segovia makes a heck of
an athletic play is able to make the interception.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Andreas Valkama in the backfield to left of Walters takes
his snap looking looking under some pressure. Lookout on the backside, he's.
Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
Gonna go down at the five yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
Belding finally got some heat to him and on the
sack that time was Cam Reynolds, the junior linebacker for
the Black Knights. It's gonna be a loss of five
second and fifteen back to the sixth.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
Well, they've got a lot of long developing routes deep
down the field, and the line right now just can't
hold on long enough to give Walters enough time to
do that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
You're gonna have to get some shorter routes in there.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
Three wide receivers, the right one to the left, play
action across the bill, pop pass, got his man.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
That's Murphy breaks the tackle.
Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
The twenty still on his feet.
Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
He's got the first out, failed them out across the
twenty five on the beautiful post battern on time Walters
with a delivery. He's out to the twenty eight yard line.
Nice pick up of twenty two that time. Walters to
the seniors Xavier Murphy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
Well that's what they've got to do, Brett.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
They've got to have those quick cuts because these receivers
are gonna have leverage on the Building defensive backs. It's
kind of a mismatch there. You just gotta get the
ball out of Walter's hands quicker.
Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
Weall come to the right lookout. Here comes to pressure,
gonna jump it off.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
He has a safety valve, but not going anywhere that
time his hander lick. Great job of the Building defense
to smell that one out for no game.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Well that was a screen, but they forgot the screen part.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
Yeah, and that's what coach Siffin has reminded him.
Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
I mean, it was a pretty well designed first part
where they let everybody come in, but they just kind
of got there too quick and Walter's kind of had
to just throw the ball as quickly as possible on
a screen. Yeah, you don't want to fully block him
but you kind of gotta chip him or at least
talk about stride a little bit, and that's what they
didn't do, and so Walter is just kind of forced
(01:09:33):
to throw it before he really wanted to, because if
he had one more step, Andrew has gotten nobody.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
In front of him. And that's a big game. From
the right, Hash trips to the left side. Second to ten,
Walter's pump fake. Now steps up under the pressure, got
some runner room, gonna tucking to run across the thirty
five and gets out of bounce, scooting to the thirty
eight yard line close to that first down marker Ethan
King ran him out five point thirty three left to.
Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
Go into third.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Well, I like that decision there by Walters in the
first half. I kind of felt like he didn't want
to run the football at that time. Very confident steps up,
has a lot of room, but he just knows there
he doesn't have anything, and with the pressure that he's
been facing, he's like, Hey, I'm gonna take what I
can get and he picks up the first down.
Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
So first and ten they give him the first down.
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
Freshet of downs got to buy about a half yard
three wide receivers to the left, one to the right,
looking right now looking back left, hit as he throws
and luckily incomplete. Ethan King was bringing the late pressure
and knocks down Walters hit his arm and King kind
of a little bit lame coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
Now he's gonna jog off the field.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
Well, and this is what you and I talked about
pregame before we got on the air, Belding.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
A lot of two way starters.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
Yeah, they're up played twenty five points, but a lot
of guys playing on both sides.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Of the football. And this game is not for the
the folks that like to take it slow.
Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
Let's just I mean, there's a frenetic pace of this game,
even with all the turnovers. There's just a really good
tempo to this game. And that means guys are gonna
be tighter.
Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
Can't carry by himself.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Thrown across the middle field, they hit it Vandykin in
the back. He's like, what is he was trying to
give Chase that time down the field they were looking for.
Finn Galloway has been quiet tonight after that seven touchdown
performance last night. He was carrying the football out of
the running back position as well. Third down and ten
coming up, By the way, a rapid Radio scoreboard updates

word rapid radios dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:11:32):
Third down in ten Retpekita buck Gino on the call here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Dump off again and look out, Oh big hit that time,
ballpop loose Xavior Murphy was trying to fight for extree
yards to the forty five and jarring the ball loose
with a big hit was Skyler Miller the safety and
Belding comes up with a fumble recovery.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
Boy, that's tough too. That was a really nice tunnel
screen that they had set up there. Murphy going in
for extra yardage, and you're right, Skyler Miller just comes
in and lowers the shoulder.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Yeah, he took a shot.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
He's mad at himself for confident of the football trying
to get that extra yardist.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
But that was a bit. I mean, it's third and ten.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
You gotta get to the sticks there, and Miller just
came in untouched and really laced into him there. Like
you said, he's probably more mad that he gave the
football up because he had first down yardage or very close.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
To it if he doesn't fumble the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
So, once again, Belding, after a turnel, we're playing with
a short field first down in ten. They have it
at the Dutch forty six Dutch stacking a line of scrimmage,
but can they get penetration through handoff King and he
squirts through to the forty one yard line, Ice pick
up a five on first down, second and five, and
now big Belly will go to work on this clock
as we roll under five minutes left to go in
the third quarter, up twenty five here thirty eight thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
Well, if you're Belding, now you can kind of take
your foot off the gas a little bit, because what
you also want to do is you got tired puppies
on your sideline too. Yep, So there's no using to
go super fast tempo here with a twenty five point lead,
and now the clock becoming Holland's enemy.
Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
Two more touchdowns here in the second half, one each
way handoff right side, written bird and he's ridden down
after a short gain at the to the thirty nine
yard line. Good job, defensively by the Dutch defense. That
time front seven getting more penetration. So big third and
three coming up here, Well.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
They've got to get obviously they've got to fill gaps
in the middle, but also when they've been able to
set the edge, whether it be on the inside or
the outside runs, Brett force the runner back into the defense.
Just get him towards the guys that try to tackle him.
If they can do that, they've had success so far.
It's been hit or miss.
Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
Keep an eye a number six, Nick, right, he's had
two big touchdown runs. Tonight they go pitch King. King
has to cut it back up to your point, Buck,
you know he's not gonna get there. Great job by
the Holland defense, and it was William Bull, the sophomore
defensive liman slash linebacker that brings him down short of
the first time marker by a yard. It's gonna be
just inside the thirty eight yard line of Holland. Yeah,
(01:14:08):
he means about the length of the football. But a
good job there. Again, Holland.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
You don't have to make the tackle, you just have
to get out there and make sure that he has
to cut it back in towards the defense and good
pursuit that time by Holland. That's what you got to
preach if you're the defensive coaches for Holland, just get pursuit.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
We'll get somebody to help you turn him back in.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Yeah, Bolt playing middle linebacker. He's up so we can
see the play and flow to at Rittenberg right side.
Got the first down fighting for extra outits inside the
thirty five and now they'll gang tackle him dropping at
the thirty three.
Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
That is enough to move the chains.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
And as this third quarter continues to move, I want
to remind you we got seven touchdowns up on the board.
That's a three hundred and fifty dollars donation from Lake
Michigan Credit Union to Kids' Food Basket, our third quarter sponsor,
the official nonprofit for the LMCU high school football game
of the Week. Now in our fourth year with the
Touchdowns for Kids campaign, every touchdow on scoring during our
games of the week. Of course, the Lakeshore Game two
on one oh seven m us the Moose LMCU generously
(01:15:05):
donating fifty dollars to Kids Food Basket to nourish local kids.
That's the goal to reach their full potential. First down
and ten under two thirty and tickul left to go
third quarter one way receive route wide left, straight tee
behind Dawson Donovan and we're gonna have a legal procedure.
I can't spelling. I just every time, I just will
(01:15:26):
go right to money and he's just, guys, we know
the count, we know, we know what we're doing. What
are we doing up there?
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
And you're thinking about this. This is what I like
about coaches like MANI. That's thirty eight to thirteen a
pretty good performance. But what he's doing is he knows
if we want to go far this season, we can't
have these penalties when we're playing teams in November, October, November,
in the playoffs, we.
Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Can't have this stuff. So always coaching all the time
is money price.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
And I'm glad you brought that up because they dropped
down to Division six. I think they can be a handful.
They could be for teams in Division six. First and fifteen.
After the penalty to layed handoff right to left, look
out there's right again. He's got to crease inside the
thirty maybe one step away from breaking that one down
to the twenty five yard line. It's gonna be a
couple of yards sort of the first down and now
(01:16:18):
right coming up, and I don't know if he fell
on his Yeah, I think he fell either on the
ball or maybe just bend his leg back.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
We've seen that a lot this year, Brett.
Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
Good sportsmanship by the way, I've seen both the Holland
and Belding players. I mean, it's a hard fought, tough
game to be nice game, but they're not doing a
great job of trying to help other players up. Obviously,
they need him to stay down because he needs some
medical attention, and with the time out of the field
gives us a chance to step aside as well. Thirty
eight to thirteen belting over Holland Black Knights on the
move again, one forty four left to go in the third.
(01:16:50):
Will come back with more after this on nainety six
to one the game. Hey Football Fans Edition and win

Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
That's right, four great flavors to serve you.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Now, that's win Shuler's Delicious g Spreads a proud sponsor

on ninety six to one. The game it also our
Lake Shore game just down the road at West Ottawa
on one of those seven m us the Moose, Ret Pekita,
Buck Gino, walk you back in here, Ray and Sewsmith
Stadium on the campus of Hope College. Is the clock
continues to wind. Now, good news is that walking off
(01:17:36):
on his own power was Nick Wright. And now we're
going to have another penalty flag, but this one is
defensive off sides against Holland so many gets a break there.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
He was ready to throw the hat over there and
he got bailed out a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
But Nick right, good to see walked off while we
were at the break under his own power.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
Not really sure exactly what happened there, got bent.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Yeah, he was kind of pointing at the hip and
I mean, there's a lot going on, but we've seen
that a lot of times. This is your Brett where
guys just kind of going to the pile and it
doesn't look like it looks innocuous, doesn't look anything happen,
but they just they stay down.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
This guy's kind of getting dinged up on the bottom
of the pile.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
There tallon Calvos split wide left here on first and
ten handoff right side. Lookout van dykeen boy, that has
been a huge hole. They have the guard kind of
lead the way there inside the fifteen. He rambles down
to the fourteen yard line, pick up of six clock
at tears to wine. We might have one more play
here before the end of the third quarter, and that'll
(01:18:37):
be it thirty eight to thirteen. Remember thirty five points
or more in the second half. We go to a
running clock situation as we're almost to the end of
the third and coming up in the fourth quarter. You
could be tonight's wing doozy fan of the game. Be
the correct caller when I give you the Q to call,
the number to call, and if you do that to
our studios, Joe Arn will be answering the phones. If
(01:18:57):
you're the correct caller, I've already won this season and
you're not eligible twenty five dollars gift card to enjoy
some wings on us with wing tosy and off left side?
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Is that Ridenberg? And there this big fella Noah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
Rambling down inside first it's not gonna bring him down
inside the ten down to the six yard line and
that'll set up first in goal. Black Knights. They don't
have to run another player and they're not gonna it
is Montie Price, I think is gonna be content. He
might let him stay out there for a little bit
just to call the boys over before they walk to
the other end. And that's exactly what Dawson Donovan is
(01:19:29):
looking towards his head coach. He said, nope, this come
on over, fellas. We'll take this one to the final
twelve minutes. So after three quarters of play here at
Ray and Seusimith Stadium are scoring this okay, silver showdown.
Belding in thirty eight holand thirteen will come back with
the final twelve minutes after this, as you're listening to
the LMCU High School football Game of the Week right
here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
All right, we're gonna give it the wing Tuosy of
the game.
Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
Number to call right now. And if your caller eight to.
Speaker 1 (01:20:04):
Joey in our studios he's working in the score center
with cole Vndia. Caller eight to six one, six, four, five,
four thirty seven, seventy six, you're gonna be a Tonight's
Wing twosy fan of the game. Give us your name
where you're listening from, we'll give you a shout out
in the postgame show. Again, if you've already won this
football season, you're not eligible. Caller eight right out of
our studios six one, six, four, five, thirty seven, seventy six.
(01:20:26):
Teams have switched ends sides of the field and now
going towards the south end. So they got the big
fella for Bell. They tried to work his way in
on the handoff number one. I think they changed the
lineman in there. Martin Holyfield is a like a refrigerator.
Perry in there, the junior, and he was trying to
pull his way in down to the one yard line
(01:20:48):
set up second goal after the handoff from Dawson Donovan.
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
Usually the number is in the twenty is there for guys?
Not his His one kind of stretched out there. But boy,
that's just tough.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
When we had Rittenberg and I was he's bigger than
Written and King running down your throat and like, hey
we got more.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
We haven't even used him yet.
Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
Here they go double tight end, set handoff left side,
and Rittenberg just powers his way in for another touchdown
for number twenty four. I tell you they're finding something
in him. They're deep at the running back position. Another
junior for Monty Price and with that touchdown from two
yards out, forty four thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
Now is our score. Yeah, and you can tell for Howland.
I mean, it's been a battle all night.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
And I think that really when you're when you're a
team that's young, like the Dutch are, you can't play
two teams. You can't play yourself and a good opponent.
And that's what's happened here tonight. The turnovers. We saw
that last week with comstock Park, and that has continued
here tonight with three.
Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
More under center. Dawson Donovan wants to go pick to
the fullback going wide and he's into the end zone
taking it in that time. Number twenty we don't even
have him on our roster, but I will tell you this,
he got in for the two point conversion. Cam Mowson,
the sophomore. Don't ask me how I know that, just
(01:22:19):
I won't ask yet because it's not on my roster.
So I'll write it down. And with eleven zho nine
left to go here in regulation, our score now reads
Belding forty six Island thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
It's been tough.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
He's way down the list. Oh sophomore, I see a
fifth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Yeah, so forty six to thirteen and uh as Holland
gets set to receive the ball here.
Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
And there's a ton of sophomores. And you can do
that at the bottom of the roster with the fifth
quarter rule. For people who don't know, you can play
five quarters in a week. So let's say you play
three in the JV game, you can play another half
right at the varsity level, And it's to help with
(01:23:08):
number situations, which have gotten better for most schools in
the area. Kingery coming to their side, fumble the football
and Belding comes up with it. He just couldn't come
back to get it. And now it looks like, oh boy,
is Tanner Kingery injured? Yeah, somebody landed on him. Maybe,
Oh man, he was. He fumbled it coming to the
near side. We're seeing some cramping now on both sides.
(01:23:28):
I think he's got a cramp. Well, hopefully that's it
for Tanner and humble down also right, not necessarily a
warm night tonight, but you have a lot of guys
playing a lot of plays.
Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
And now Tanner Kingery is up and trying to well.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
And that's just I mean Kingery, dude, nobody buy him, right,
he just loses the ball. And that's the kind of
stuff that the last couple of weeks for Holland. That's
just how it's gone. I Mean, you can practice all
you want, will Seffn can tell them do all the
chalkboard stuff, and they can do all sorts of film
and everything else. It's the execution and right now we're
(01:24:09):
just not seeing it. It's a younger team and that
is what we are seeing here tonight with Belding and
Howand I was just about to say before we got
to the kickoff they're set to receive here when they
get the ball on offense, they've done relatively well, right,
I mean, they've looked like they've got it together. Yes,
Belding is a good defense, but I mean Holland has
been able for longer stretches, been able to move the football.
(01:24:33):
The problem is is that we got the ball on
the kick return and we just drop it. I mean,
there's really nothing you can say about it. It's unfortunate,
but those are the type of things that happened to
young teams and Holland right now, it's kind of like
a virus. Sometimes you have turnover ritis and I don't
know what medicine you can take for it, but they're
(01:24:53):
gonna need to find some because they've got a pretty
good core here, right and they're gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
To make a playoff push. Just cannot afford those types
of mistakes. Tanner king Ray, the good news is okay.
He's over on the bench and he's trying to get
some liquids in him. Meanwhile, good news for Joda Humble
number zero as well walked off on his own power
and it seemed to be a cramping situation as well.
Now a bunch of reserves in for Monty Price, new
quarterback in there, and some movement up front to offside
(01:25:24):
Jake Lamborne, who is the sophomore quarterback, one of those
fifth quarter kits in it quarterback I legal Procedu're gonna
be calling against Belding, so Moni's not gonna be happy
about that, even though two faces in there, and here's
the situation. Belding has an opportunity here with a thirty
three point lead forty six thirteen one more score here, even.
Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
If it's a field goal, not that that's likely.
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
With Belding is going to push this to a running
clock situation eleven h two left to go in the
fourth quarter. Belding tried to take advantage of that. We
had some more guys just line up.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
Well that one for sure, what don Holland?
Speaker 1 (01:25:59):
Yeah, in the neutral zone, and now the defensive coordinator
is gonna get someone else in there. He's saying, that's
twice you've jumped off side, so we're gonna have you
watched someone else do it correctly.
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
Well, it's just been that kind of night, frustrating for
the Dutch for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
And here we go hand off left side, big fella
Rittenberg trying to strip the football for him.
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
Not gonna do that either.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
As he falls forward to the twenty five. Now they'll
give him the twenty six. Move a back yard, so
gain of five second and five coming up. Meanwhile, clock
will continue to wind, more players rotating in, so a
lot of the guys that made the trip over on
the bus on the roster are gonna get some time
here at the varsity level. For Monty Pricing Buck, I
(01:26:46):
can't emphasize enough. Keep in mind that they used to
be a Division five and have to run into West
Catholic or Grant Appad's Catholic Central or even Moskegan Okrags
back in the day. Now, Division six not a lot
of area teams, so it's a whole new ballgame for them.
They'll see some teams made from the Skeigan area. But
I tell you as strong a program as Belling is
with the size of kids they have, is on the
carry that time was Cam Larson, the sophomore to the
(01:27:09):
twenty five. I think they're gonna be tough to beat
in Division six, especially if they start to get this
thing rolling by the end of the regular.
Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
Seaon one team they're gonna see is the team they
played in Week two, which was reid'sid.
Speaker 2 (01:27:23):
Right, that's gonna be a big one. By the way, Bonnie.
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
Price is old Stoppingcrounce before he carried Beell.
Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
He was the coach down yep, So for sure that one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
But yeah, you're right, they can definitely make some noise
in that division, and I think it's good for them overall.
Like you said, running against some very tough opponents in
Division five year in and year out with West Catholic
or Catholic Central or oak Ridge.
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
I mean it's just it's so tough in Division five
to make a long run.
Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
They gave Larson to the twenty three and now back
to big number twenty four. Noah Rittenberg, it's his time
in the fourth. He's got the first down to the
twenty yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
And if you're lucky enough to get shoved on to
the east side.
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
Right, you got Franken move right, who makes it to
ford Field almost every other year.
Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
So I mean it's it's or Gladwin. I mean it's
it doesn't get any easier. So Division five is load
Pontiac nor Damon right. I mean it's one of the
pound for pound toughest divisions.
Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
Of the eight and to your pitch of Belding could
go east a little bit yep or up the center
of the state of the Mitten because of being Division
six where they're located.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
Wow, look at it. This got bullyball.
Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
I told he's like an offensive lineman carried in there
Martin Onlyfield rolls all the way down literally to the
eight yard line. I think there's three different black jerseys
that got a shot him in that Dutch defense and
came bouncing off. They couldn't get down low enough pad
level wise to get around his legs.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
And I wouldn't want to be the only guy. We
need some help here. I can't do this by myself.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Why do I have a guess here that twenty one
is gonna get the football I can here? I mean
Rittenberg has gotten his. I mean this night, this is
what we would call these second string back Yeah, I mean,
look at how big they are. The two half backs
are huge in this set. They give it to the
full back though they keep you on us back the
smaller of the three, and that I believe is Larsen,
(01:29:19):
who's down to the six yard line, second and goal
coming up forty six thirteen. A score here would make
it a running clock situation just over eight minutes and
taking left to go stick around. Discount to our post
game showing in that tonight. Added to our awards list
the Garrett's Dependable Player of the Game. It's brought to
you by Garrett's Appliance. That player that shows dependability that
(01:29:42):
his team could count on throughout the game, just like
you can count on the appliances from Garrett's Apliants show
the dependability your family can count on. Hand off left
side touchdown, Bellying from six yards out. Noah Rittenberg another one.
He's chalking up a big second half here for the
(01:30:03):
Black Knights. You are trying to put an exclamation point
on this one. Fifty two to thirteen Oliver Holland two
point conversion upcoming.
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
Well, I mean, if you're building, I mean, you look
at the depth that you have here playing against this team,
and you're right, I mean, there's gonna be there's gonna
be other teams. There's other teams here that if you're
watching this film and Division six like, good lord, that's those.
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Are the guys that don't even start right.
Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
A lot of fifth quarter kids here, JV kids told
you Monty Price was excited about his team. It's just
a matter of finish it. And now they did give
it to an offensive lineman number seventy two. That's tru
Shearer and that is officially way in the refrigerator Perry,
but he stops short. Good job of the Dutch defense.
(01:30:55):
Well gosh, I mean, whoever is stepped up in front
of him? And so did you share against the per
heart because he was coming downhill?
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
All right? So we're gonna go to a running clock situation.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Let's do this right now. We'll send it back to
the studios. Rick Burkey is standing by with some scores
and more. Remember the whole Myer scoreboard show coming up
after our discount door postgame show.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
Rick, what do you got for us?
Speaker 5 (01:31:15):
Well, I know you're looking forward already to next week's
big Red showdown and the Okay Red between Hudsonville and Rockford.
Your ninety six to one game of the week, some
other Okay Red scores for you right now, our one
oh seven mus game of the week grand Haven West Ottawa,
A good one over there, West Audawa twenty two Grand
Haven sixteen. That game midway through the fourth quarter a
(01:31:35):
final already from the Oka Red. Hudsonville set up that
big show down forty two to nothing and Rockford is
leading Grandville. We're going to have a full report on
the Rockford Granville game. It is currently Rockford twenty eight,
Grandville nothing. That game has got just under four minutes
left in Granville, So looks like you're gonna be set up,
guys for the big Okay Red first place showdown next
week with Hudsonville and Rockford both three and zer one
(01:31:57):
League play squaring app off at the home of.
Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
The All right, thank you, Rick, appreciate that update, and
again more coming up with Rick and all of our
game reporters with those live reports.
Speaker 4 (01:32:06):
It's on the Meyers Scoreboard show.
Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
Once we are done here on the return Finn Galloway
across the twenty five shi of the thirty and the
clock will continue to wind here running clock situation fifty
two to thirteen. We won't recap that scoring drive here
for Belding. Turnovers has been the story again the second
half of Holland. We'll do that coming up in our
final scoring recap. But it was thirty to seven Belding
(01:32:30):
at the break. They put up twenty two to just
six for Holland in this second half. And now the
Dutch will go on the attack again first down in
ten and as Rick mentioned, we are excited to go
back to Carylston Munger stateum was a good one just
a undred ten thousand fans last week.
Speaker 4 (01:32:45):
Is Walters now running for his life and he will
go down.
Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
Give me the stop for Belding defensively was Antonio Smith
on that defensive front. Give him a credit for the
sack back inside the thirty to the twenty seven for
a loss of three second in thirteen. But Hudsonville, who
we saw in week one, impressive over Byron Center. I
haven't seen him since then. Rockford we just saw a
week ago. Hutsonville at Rockford always a good rivalry over
(01:33:10):
the years between those two. And now first place will
be on the line.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
Well, it'll be very interesting. I know.
Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
Rockford we saw a new side of them last week
with the power game with the hern but with Braden
Daniels potentially dinged up.
Speaker 1 (01:33:22):
Walter's trying to go over the top to Murphy knocked
away nicely. Camden Hall was right with him step first
step at the Belding forty yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
Yeah, as I was going to continue there.
Speaker 3 (01:33:34):
Hudsonville feel like they're getting stronger as the game, as
the year goes on. They were kind of shaky to start, yep,
getting stronger, getting guys back.
Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
From injury, especially defensively, and then hut and.
Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
Then on the converse Rockford having guys getting dinged up.
That's gonna be an interesting dichotomy to the game.
Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
Walter's little bubble screen. Good to see Kingrie back in there.
A nice job by Tanner, who might be down again.
He landed on the football that time as he went
down to the crossing route across the thirty five. Nice
gay to the thirty seven. And I tell you there's
some kids that have taken some shots tonight, Tanner King,
we're gonna have to come out for.
Speaker 4 (01:34:09):
At least to play well.
Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
He took himself out there, and like you said, I
don't know if he landed on the ball or something,
but clearly in distress.
Speaker 2 (01:34:17):
And yes, fourth down, they will go for it here,
tough kid.
Speaker 1 (01:34:21):
Fourth down and a little longer than two. So almost
a gain of eight on that play from Walters on
the connection. Here's Eli takes a snap from center, swings
out left side, got a man complete first down out
near the midfield stripe. I like that out of the
backfield Volcoma, and he forced Camden Holt to come over
and try to make a one on one tackle. Well,
(01:34:42):
Volcoma got the best of that as he's out near
the midfield stripe. But more importantly moves the chains first
in ten Dutch.
Speaker 3 (01:34:49):
And yes, the score lopsided tonight, but as we've talked about,
how on a young team, and it's hard to say, well,
if you don't fumble the ball or take mistakes. You
maybe have a good game, but I mean howand they're
almost there?
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
You feel like it?
Speaker 1 (01:35:03):
Brett oh Walter swing back pass again to the flats.
Volcom up and up the sideline Belding length to react.
He's got another first down knocked out at the Belding
forty yard line, gain of eleven moved the chains first
in ten. This fourth quarter being brought to you by
Wing Doozy named the best chicken wings in West Michigan
multiple years. And all those fries order online, dine in, takeout,
(01:35:23):
or check out their catering VENU two two locations to
serve you in Wyoming to the Metro Health Village of
Byron Center Avenue just off Chicago Drive in Hudsonville, that
sports bar.
Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
First down in ten, vol come on the handoff this time.
Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
Nice job of the offensive line has acreased inside the
thirty five down to the thirty four yard line, gain
of six second and four Hurria offense here as we will,
under four minutes left to go for the Dutch. By
the way, our Wing Doosey fan of the game for
week five, Thank you Michael Records of Grand Rapids. He
was caller eight to our studio line to Joe Errant,
a wing doozy fan of the game tonight. Thanks to
(01:35:58):
all our great listeners, we appreciate the back we get
fundig want on a Friday night and cover high school football,
especially with weather like this in West Michigan. Buck second
down at short Walters was right throwing on the run.
Speaker 4 (01:36:10):
Got a man out there, Kingery complete?
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Did he get a foot down?
Speaker 4 (01:36:14):
He did at the five yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:36:16):
Tanner Kingery, tough kid, wants to continue his night and
he's got first and goal for the Dutch. Now, boy,
want to throw to your point? Eli Walters on the
run and.
Speaker 3 (01:36:27):
That's the first string defense out there for the most part.
I mean that was Nick right at the cornerback position
and he well covered. But Walters just drops it in
the bucket. That's why I say, Brett, I really really
just like this team as they mature.
Speaker 1 (01:36:43):
How about this Walters a back each side, going to
try and run it took a shot.
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
No, that was Wildcat, I think that was Now it
was Walters Anderwick I think wasn't And no it was
Walters with no.
Speaker 1 (01:36:54):
Was yeah, Finn Galloway, you're right, number eight. But he
had a back each side. They went with a different
look and now now it's gonna be Now it's Valkaman
Valkma and he couldn't handle the snap a little bit hot,
went down wisely covered it, but he's gonna take a
loss back to the seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
And that's just kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
How it's been going for howand they get momentum and
then yeah, I mean it's a self inflicted wound there.
Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
That's just a bad snap.
Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Two twenty and ticking left to go, running clock situation.
Belding fifty two, Holland thirteen. So Belding with the win,
gonna move to four and one overall, three to zero,
top the ok Silver, which they won for three consecutive seasons,
now trying to make it four this year. Third and
goal from the seven rollints right by some time Walters
back in the end zone, touchdown Tanner Kingery. Oh, great
(01:37:44):
to see for him.
Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
Number three.
Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
And how about the composure letting that develop in the
back and letting the defense clear by Eli Walters. Again, folks,
that's a sophomore quarterback and this is his first year
starting at the varsity level.
Speaker 3 (01:37:58):
I tell you, Brett, I mean we may be back
here doing another game next year for the Highland Dutch
simply because they're a young team. Yeah, we keep hammering
on it, but I mean a sophomore quarterback with that
much patience.
Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
And composure, Boy, you usually don't see it a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
Snap is a good one, hold us down by Walter's
kick by Folkard is up and it is good. This
is the only time at a running clock situation, this
clock will stop with one fifty eight left to go
because of the score. We'll keep it right here Belding
fifty two, Holland twenty and of course coming up, the
Discount Door Postgame Show, brought to you by our friends
(01:38:37):
at Discount Door, a family owned and locally operated business
right there in Grand Rapids off of West River Drive.

as well as needy repairs and maintenance. Discount Door get
a free quote online at discountdorgr dot com. That's discount
doorgr dot com or by calling six one six three
(01:38:58):
six three fifty six ninety to Now. Obviously we're gonna
finish a little bit early, so we'll have our full
two segments in the Discount Door Post game Show. Then
we'll get you out to the Myer scoreboard show with
Rick and the rest of our game reporters. How about
that finished with the Lake Shore game of the week
one score game as Rick totally between West Ottawa and
Grand Haven just down the road.
Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
I mean lost in this game, Brett Eli Walter is
three touchdown pass.
Speaker 1 (01:39:22):
Yeah, you're gonna kick by Folker that one in the
end zone and out of the back.
Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:39:29):
If you're Will Siffin, you gotta feel like, Okay, is
this the is this the Is this the best.
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
Game we were gonna play? No, of course it's not.
Speaker 3 (01:39:39):
You had four turnovers, plenty of things went wrong, and
you know, you think about the game last week, you
think about the game this week, and a little bit
different in talent wise as far as you know who
you were playing. But still you just feel like, man,
if we could just kind of like Mini Price was saying,
(01:40:00):
if you could just put forty eight minutes together, we
could be dangerous.
Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
And I think that kind of applies to both teams here. Now.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
We saw it from Belding tonight, very few mistakes by them,
but on the other side of the football.
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
Clearly too many for Holland tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
But Man, I really like the potential of this team
going forward, not only this year, but beyond because, as
you said, so many of the key players on this team,
I mean, after Kingry, almost all of the explosive players
are juniors or sophomores. So lots of talent to burn
(01:40:39):
here for Holland in the next couple of years. And
coach Siffin had done a great job. I mean, he
came into a terrible situation. They had to stop the
season early because they didn't have the numbers, and he
had to build this team from literally the ground up.
And I think he's done a tremendous job in the
short time that he's had to get this type of
talent on the field. But they got to grow. They
(01:41:00):
gotta have some growing pains, and this is one of
those things tonight. And then the other side, money Price.
He got a program that it was kind of felt
like they lost their way a little bit. And in
his time here at Belding Boy, he has really got
them rolling.
Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
By the way, Coach Siffin, as they're getting other guys in,
they took a time out. They wanted to get all
their players in for Holland. Turning the corner look out
off to the races fifty forty five, forty thirty five, thirty,
twenty five, twenty. No one's gonna catch him to the
house eighty yards for the score for Belling, and it
(01:41:34):
was Cam Larson showing his speed. He looked like number
six Nick Wright on that one to the house fifty
eight to twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:41:43):
Now Belding eighty yards on the touchdown run.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
Everyone's getting to the act for the Black Knights, and
maybe they finally put together that complete game that their
head coach Money Price was looking for. As they're gonna
improve to four in one here, three to zero the
Okay Silver. And I wanted to add to your point.
You know, coach Siffen had Holland in just his third season.
Last year five and four, they almost gone to the playoffs.
(01:42:07):
Now they'll drop to two and three with some work
to do in the Okay Silver. But they've been in
until maybe tonight, the games all the way through, win
or lose, which is your first thing you want to do?
I mean, folks, this is one where they had to
kind of cancel the season halfway through. Just a few
years ago, big fellow rambling in for the two point conversion.
(01:42:29):
Why not that's Colton the homele I told you he's athletic.
Six seven, two sixty takes it in for the two
point conversion. I think everyone might get a chance to
run the football here for the rest of the night.
They've got a minute sixteen left to go on a
running clock. But I love to see that when they
have the offensive lineman who especially guys who will block
so well, get.
Speaker 4 (01:42:49):
A chance to run tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:42:53):
I think the folks at LMS are gonna be very
displeased with you, Brett for picking this game, because I'm
doing the math and fifty bucks a pop.
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
After the first four weeks, we had to make up.
We had to make up. We had to back up
some ground, and boy have building.
Speaker 3 (01:43:10):
Monty, Price, Wilsivin, and Holland all contributed tonight, and so
uh after a kind of mundane pedestrian first part of
the season. That first we're gonna have to get one
of those big cartoon novelty checks out there.
Speaker 2 (01:43:24):
For this because by my account, eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
And fifty bones and there's some scoring going on down
the road. Yeah exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
It's not exactly a seven to three ball game down
there either. Well, we just like to make them sweat
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:43:39):
Yeah, you're right though, I mean we had a lot
of defensive Fare's a lot of great ball games so far.
For our LMCU Game of the Week coverage, and again
thanks for tuning in and being along with us on
Friday night.
Speaker 4 (01:43:48):
If you ever miss one, you can check out in
the podcast section.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
Just go to the Trinity Health High School Sports page
nine to six one the game dot com one O
seven m us dot com. That's coming near side of
the kickoff. That's fit Galloway. He's really been quiet tonight
after that big night last week, record study night with
the seven touchdowns to break Corey Willis's record, and now
extra curricle activity with some of the backups in there.
Speaker 4 (01:44:12):
They'll on pile and another injury for Belding.
Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
Another probably cramp, Yeah, another cramp situation Camden Holt. But
the clock's just going to continue to run in this situation.
Sixty to twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
He's trying to stay at Camp's like, I'm good, I
got one board stamp, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
Yeah, didn't make her. He's got that cramp and he
can't get her out.
Speaker 1 (01:44:32):
And the Holland players good sportsmanship pointing because the official
had his back to him. The head is an injured
player down, they will stop the clock with thirty seven
seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
So sixty to.
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
Twenty Belding over Holland.
Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
Eleven touchdowns on the night and by the way, one
squarter to pass a long from our Rick berkleyill have
a ton coming up in the Myers scoreboard show East
Kentwood twenty one to six now over Caledonia. So Falcon's
trying to bounce back after that loss at Rockford that
we called last week.
Speaker 2 (01:45:03):
Yeah, and at last.
Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
Point known forest Hill is Northern losing to Miskeigan thirty
four to fourteen, and I stopped getting touch with my kids.
So it can't be going too good for the Huskies
tonight to a Tuskies dad Um unfortunately, But you're right,
I think Shane Fairfield they kind of felt like they
needed to make a statement. And after forest Hill's Northern
had a couple of big wins with big offensive numbers
(01:45:28):
against forest Hill Central and Union, Miskegon wanted to come
out there and show, hey, we can play a little defense.
Speaker 2 (01:45:34):
I know people didn't think.
Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
We could, but we can.
Speaker 3 (01:45:37):
And now flexing their muscles little bit, I know they
had two first half interceptions that led to some points.
So yeah, Miskegan feels like they needed to make a
statement tonight and so far they have. And East Kent would,
I think after last week you're playing the cow do
Ony team.
Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
It's a rivalry game for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
I think that East Kent would probably is maybe more
than fifteen points better than Caledonia. No disrespect to Whitney Bell,
but I mean they've had a kind of rev season,
but I think the big letdown week was maybe imminent
for Tyrone Spencer's crew, and you feel like maybe that's
what happened there a little bit. But Caledonia's gonna come
play a hard nose and tough every week, and he's
(01:46:17):
kind of what I think, just you know, maybe just
got by with a little bit different effort than they
had to bring last week.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
And you're getting ready for the rest of the red schedule.
So here's what happened.
Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Good news Camden Holton, Camden Holt, excuse me, how to cramp?
They got him off the field at walking off on
his own power body Price and Belding realizing that with
a running clock, they didn't have to run another play,
so they just lined up and That is the way
the game will end. As we've reached triple zeros here
at Ray and Seusmith Stadium, the teams will line up
on the fifty handshakes across the board. Well deserved victory
(01:46:48):
for Belding tonight. They knew they had some different issues
with the passing attack of Holland handled pretty well for
some turnovers in their running game, really never got slowed
too much by the Dutch defense. Tonight is our final
score in this one, Belding sixty Holland twenty. We've got
a lot coming your way in the discount to our
postgame show than the meer scoreboard show. But before we
(01:47:08):

Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
Back in the studio, Rick Burkey and the crew getting
geared up for the Meyer High School scoreboard show. Got
scores coming in from around the area and the OK
Red Hudsonville BA Jennison forty two to nothing and rock
beat Granville twenty eight nothing. That sets up our big
ninety six to one the game Game of the week
next week. Hudsonville at Rockford both three and zero in
Okay redplay in a first place showdown at the home
(01:48:10):
of the Rams and the OK White. West Catholic came
from behind and beat spring Lake twenty one to fourteen
and the OK Black interesting score. It was zero zero
Catholic Central and thorneppelel Kellogg after at the half and
it was three to nothing Catholic Central after three and
then it was strange the only touchdown of the game.
Thornippel Kellogg had the ball and a option pitch was
(01:48:30):
intercepted by Catholic Central and run back for a touchdown.
Catholic Central wins it ten nothing. Thornepper Kellogg plays very
well in the loss, though Catholic Central State's perfect at
five and zero and the okay goal. Zealand West beats
Zealand East thirty eight fourteen. South Christian over Wyoming thirty
three to nothing. On our game of the week, of course,
Belding beats Holland sixty to twenty. And in the one
(01:48:53):
oh seven game of the week, we don't quite have
a final on that one yet. In the River City's Alliance,
Coopersville over Greenville by account of forty two to seven.
And guys, I'm gonna give you a little cautious optimism here.
It's the bottom of the seventh at Fenway Park. Tigers
three Red Sox one.
Speaker 4 (01:49:12):
We love it, Rick, we need that.
Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Can you have?
Speaker 1 (01:49:15):
The Lions went on Sunday too and Tmusa with Ryder
Cup just to cap off a good weekend, Buck Gino,
Rick Urkey and the crew.
Speaker 4 (01:49:21):
Great job, Rick coming up with more scores. We'll have finals.
Speaker 1 (01:49:24):
We'll take you around with Joe Ertt and Colebania and
we'll get that final that Lake short game of the
week over one oh seven, m us the Moose, plus
our game reporters and more in the meer scoreboard show.
As we welcome back to ray and Seussmiths stated he
will take you through our discount to our postgame show.
And I've got about five minutes here because buck Gino
is gonna do the full scoring recap. You don't have
to do all eleven touchdowns. I mean, next week we're
(01:49:47):
gonna read Warren Peace. Here's the crazy thing though, as
people are just tuning into this game, and maybe you
tuned in the second half, I'm not lying when I
say it was sixty to twenty the final building over
Holland here nights, but it was eight seven Belded over
Holland after one.
Speaker 3 (01:50:04):
I mean I thought Holland was going, you know, punch
for punch with Belding. The first turnover really just kind
of pivoted the game, and from there it just kind.
Speaker 2 (01:50:16):
Of snowballed on Holland.
Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
I still think there's a team with a lot of potential,
but we can get into that later. The first part,
as you promised, our scoring summary, So let me get
some oxygen here. No, I'm not gonna do all eleven touchdowns,
but what I will tell you is, as you said,
it was eight seven after one quarter, and then Belding
with a twenty two to nothing run in the second quarter,
(01:50:40):
down of an eight nine yard touchdown run, vandyk and
a one yard touchdown run, and then Nick Wright the
capper with twenty nine seconds to go in the second quarter,
a sixty five yard touchdown run on second ten, and
with two point conversions and everything else, all that math
meant it was thirty to seven at halftime for Shelding,
Holland right down the field out of the locker room,
(01:51:03):
two plays sixty five yards Walters to Kingry thirty to
thirteen after the pat failed.
Speaker 2 (01:51:09):
But after that it was just Belding, Belding, Belding, Belding, and.
Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
Rittenberg Rittenberg with three straight touchdowns for the Black Knights,
couple of two point conversions mixed in there, fifty two
to thirteen, and then Holland and Belding trade scores late
in the contest to get us to where our final
tally finally settled, and that was the Belding Black Knights
sixty and the Holland Dutch twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:51:36):
That second quarter is really what did Holland in with
those turnovers. Who mentioned they got outscored by the Black
Knights twenty two to nothing. An eight to seven game
went to thirty to seven at the intermission, and then
the third quarter they swapped scores again. It was thirty
eight thirteen, so both teams scored. But then the fourth
quarter developing the running clock again, turnovers an issue for
Holland and the route was on. Belding wins it by forty.
(01:51:58):
Here tonight, okay, so overplay sixty to twenty the final

for Isaac Taslaw who's from that area obviously played at
Unity Christian High School and Little Dipper's ice Cream in Jamestown,
right next to where MKD Funeral Homes is.
Speaker 2 (01:52:32):

(01:52:57):

Little Dipper ice Cream in MKD Funeral Homes.
Speaker 2 (01:53:02):
We have yet to see Isaac make a regular catch
in the end.
Speaker 3 (01:53:05):
No, but he didn't have that touchdown ken like everyone
is just a spectacular po Everyone was.
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Happy with that because it's fifty percent off ice cream buck.
Speaker 1 (01:53:13):
You know, hey, the last week checked the weather is
still like somewhere around in West Michigan, which we're enjoying
and not complained about for the high school football season
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
So there is your recap will take a break.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
We'll come back one final time here to Hope College,
just rayin Sewsmith Stadium to wrap this one. We've got
some awards we got to hand out, Like who's going
to be Tonight's uptown Cheapskate Offensive Player of the Game.
What about our Garrett's Appliance Dependable Player of the game.
Oh and our Montel Construction Defensive Player of the Game.
Plus our J and H Family Stores.
Speaker 4 (01:53:40):
Highlight of the game. It's all coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:53:42):
We come back before the Meyers Scoreboard Show with our
own Rick Burkey right here on your home for West
Michigan High School Football ninety six to one the game.
Welcome back out to Holland one final time. Beautiful night
(01:54:04):
along the Lake shore. Enjoy your weekend coming up. By
the way, I Hope College and Peter Sturts are going
to play here tomorrow in a big game against your
alma mater, Elma Believe, at one o'clock kickoff. Want to
give them a little love. I want to get out
to a Hope College game. Just a great venue with
the Jumbo Tron and the Athletics Center, with the locker
rooms that I've been in on the one end, just
gorgeous what they've done. If you haven't been out to
a Hope game lately, I mean Ray and Seussmith Stadium, Holland,
(01:54:26):
I know really enjoys this as their home facility for
high school football and beautiful press box to call the
game from tonight. But we can't say thanks enough to
Blake Muller and everyone here at Holland High. Never done
a Holland football game, I think before on a Game
of the Week feature. We've done basketball before, but tough
one for them tonight. But I tell you exciting to
see how they're going to grow in the future. Yeah,
I mean you look at the score.
Speaker 3 (01:54:46):
We talked about it, you know, a little bit of
ad nauseum during the game, I think, yeah, And they
had four turnovers like they did last week. And you're
just not able to beat quality opponents when you have
that type of game. But you can see kind of
the the bear bones, the foundation of a team that
if they can keep the corps together. Eli Walter is
(01:55:06):
a sophomore quarterback. I really like his game, and a
couple guys in the secondary slash receiver corps yet Finn
Galloway who's a sophomore, Trey Knox who's a sophomore. You've
got little bolt on the defensive offensive Lions as a sophomore.
You've got a lot of good building blocks, Andrelick's a
(01:55:27):
junior and Xavier Murphy really the only senior. I guess
king Rie is too, but I mean there's just so
many good young players here that they can build with.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
And it's hats off to coach Siffin.
Speaker 3 (01:55:40):
I mean, three years ago they didn't have a team
and he had to build it from the ground up.
And to get that type of tailing out here after
that type of thing really credit to coach Stiffen and
his staff. And on the other side, I mean, Monty
Price and Belding look like they're they're loaded for bear
and in Division six. Really the only people that might
be able to stop them or the Coyotes from Reed
(01:56:02):
City who did that already this year.
Speaker 1 (01:56:04):
All right, let's hand out some awards we'd like to
do that. We'll start with our Wing Doozy Fan of
the Game tonight. We announced a little bit earlier, but
Michael Records of Grand Rapids was Colora. Congratulations, Michael, you
scored that twenty five dollars gift card to have some
wings on us courtesy of Wing Doozy and thanks to
all of our listeners across West Michigan and beyond. Tonight
uptown Chiefskate Offensive Player of the Game. I'll let my
(01:56:25):
partner Buck Gino have the honors with this one.
Speaker 3 (01:56:27):
Well, it was a crowded field yet again when there's
eighty points on the score, where there's plenty of folks
throwing their hat in the ring. But I think for
my money, Nick right, the running back for Belding, the
two touchdowns, especially the distances twenty nine and sixty five,
especially the key points of the game. The first score
and then the second one was kind of the one
you felt like that really put the cap or even
(01:56:49):
though Holland did have a lot of fight left, you
kind of felt like that they made it. The thirty
to seven that was kind of the one that punched
the Dutch in the stomach there. And so for that effort,
tonight Nick Wright our Uptown Cheapskate Offensive.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
Player of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:57:05):
Yeah, he's that home run hitter with his speed in
that backfield only a junior number six. Nick Wright, Tonight's
Uptown Cheapskate Offensive Player of the Game. And it's brought
to you by Uptown Cheapskate with location in Grandville, Kentwood.
Hey buy what you loved yesterday, said what you want today?
Clean out your closet and earn cast for your clothes.
Plus you can become an Uptown Insider and get monthly
deals at Uptown Cheapskate dot com.
Speaker 2 (01:57:24):
Nick's gonna do some shopping.
Speaker 1 (01:57:26):
You gonna have to come over to the Grundarpertieray from
Belling and he's got a twenty five dollars gift card
to get some stuff from us and Uptown Cheapskate. I'll
go next with our Montel Construction Defensive Player of the Game,
brought to you by my home team. For your next
exterior project, check out Montel Construction get ready for winter,
roofeend windows signing. They do it all at Montel Construction
dot com. And we went with Big Number fifty eight.
(01:57:47):
You mentioned Buck Gino. He was in the backfield pretty
much all night tonight trying to apply some pressure. It's
also a starting offensive lineman Antonio Smith for the Building
Black Knights.
Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
Yeah, he was a thorn in the Dutch side for sure,
kasing Elio walters around. There's plenty of guys that we
could have given it to there. We didn't really say
his name a ton during the broadcast. But Antonio Smith
just a lot of pressure. And those are the things
you don't see on the box score, right, you don't
see a guy that almost got the quarterback. You don't
see the guy that almost made the tackle. But Antonio
(01:58:16):
Smith was a real force to be dealt with and
that kind of disrupted some of the things that Holand
wanted to do. So big game for Antonio Smith tonight,
our Mintel construction.
Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
Seven excuse me, one of seven two way starters for
Monty Price the Black Knights, and he has a senior
big number fifty eight. And we'll go back to Belvin
again with our Garrett's appliance, dependable player of the game.
You might say mop up duty, but he's a guy
that you can put in the rotation. He proved that tonight.
He's got size. He came in a couple of times
when Teagan Van Dyking got nicked up or they just
wanted to rotate people in because of guys going both ways.
(01:58:48):
Talking about Noah Rittenberg, number twenty four, the junior running back,
you'll be the air apparent next year, but getting some
quality time and he had three rushing touchdowns to night.
I mean, if that's not dependable. I don't know what
is You're right. I mean he comes in in a
key points for Vandykin. Then he gets to good play
relief duty in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (01:59:07):
After they get the score to a comfortable level, and
he kind of he was like the closure tonight. So
they had the starter, right, he went seven strong innings
and then they bring in Rittenberg the closer, and he
had three touchdowns, all the short yarded variety. But a
very good, promising, punishing running back is Noah Rittenberg. He's
(01:59:28):
a excuse me, he's a junior. So he'll be back
next year. And I'm sure Mighty Price is glad at that.
While the opponents may not be so as much. But Rittenberg,
no Rittenberg our Garrett's Appliance dependable player of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:59:40):
Yeah, just like the appliances from Garrett's Appliance. He showed
that dependability his teammates, just like Garrett's Appliances will for
your family. You can count on that. Garrett's Appliance a
proud sponsor of our high school football games of the week.
All right, let's wrap things up with our J and
H Family Stores highlight of the game tonight. And when
you're spiking up Belding and the wind offense. It's usually
a big run on the ground like this one.
Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
Donovan just doesn't have the pinpoint accuracy Dutch.
Speaker 1 (02:00:08):
Trying to get out of the half without any more scoring.
Handoff on the delay, big hole left side. He's got
a block or two across the midfield. Try to look
out hit tie the forty hit tige the thirty twenty
five twenty fifteen ten five Did he get in? He did,
touchdown Nick Right sixty five yards for the score. I boarded.
(02:00:30):
He turned on the afterburners once he picked up that
block on the edge and crossed the fifty on the angle.
He just outran the Holland secondary and Nick Wright has
his second rushing touchdown of the ninth twenty nine yards
the first one, that one.
Speaker 2 (02:00:45):
For sixty five.
Speaker 1 (02:00:46):
One of eight for the Belding Black Knights tonight is
eight when it's sixty to twenty. That's the night's Jane
H Family Stores highlight of the game, with now sixty
plus locations across Michigan to serve you. If you're driving
home right now, stop by J and H's Family Stores
on your way home or to your next game and
load up on whatever you need, whether it's pop candy
for a game, maybe even a hot dog buck Gino
(02:01:06):
that sounds pretty good on the way home.
Speaker 2 (02:01:08):
JNH Family Stores. And with eight touchdowns for.
Speaker 1 (02:01:11):
Belding, three for Holland tonight, eleven touchdowns in our game alone,
four week five, five hundred and fifty dollars donated tonight
by LMCU to Kids Food Basket. Without the Lake Shore
game weighing in, we're at three thousand dollars now for
the season.
Speaker 2 (02:01:26):
Yeah, and let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:01:28):
We'll go back to the Myer scoreboard show here just briefly,
and we'll find that out from Jason and Toms game
at West Ottawa. And last we heard it was not
exactly a defensive battle out there either. So big check
coming from Lake Michigan Credit Union to the Kids Food
Basket tonight, all for a good cause. And next week
we look at Rockford versus Hudsonville looking to be a
(02:01:50):
heavyweight fight in the Oka Red after Rockford's decisive and
dominating win over Grandville this evening.
Speaker 1 (02:01:57):
Yeah, six o'clock with the Janius Family Stores pregame show.
Next Friday, we'll be out at Carlstonmunger Stadium and winner
will be first place by themselves of that Rockford and
Hudsonville showdown for week six. Well, thanks again to our
host athletic director here at Holland High, Blake Muller. Want
to thank both head coaches for our prep tonight for
the game broadcast.
Speaker 2 (02:02:15):
Hope you enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (02:02:16):
Will Siffon, now in his fourth season as the Holland
High head coach, appreciate that and he joined us on
the Lake Michigan High School at Lake Michigan Credit Union
High School football preview on Thursday night. Go to talk
to him and meet him. And then Monty Price, like
you mentioned to Staple at Reed City, now at Belding
and trying to get the Redskins a run here to
Ford Field maybe in Division six with the victory tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
Well for Buck Geno, my name is Bret Paketa.
Speaker 1 (02:02:40):
That's going to wrap up the Discount Door postgame show

Errant and Colebnia working that score center with Rick as well.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Looking forward to next week should be another big crowd.
Speaker 3 (02:03:32):
And boy we've had good luck with weather, good luck
with games, and hopefully continue that next week.
Speaker 1 (02:03:38):
All right, the Meyer Scoreboard Show is coming up with
Rick Burkey after this short time out. As you're listening
to West Michigan High School Football brought to you by
Lake Michigan Crediting and Meyer right here on ninety six
