a little move to the inside his defender beat, but
just too far in the delivery for Kaufman trying to
get it towards that sideline.

Well, I think that's again the pressure coughing hearing the
footsteps of the Rams offense.

He had the time, it was a clean pocket.

He just overthrows it a little bit as Jones hadn't
quite gotten to the spot and in motion from left
to right.

One of the things that I'm privileged to do every
high school football season, and I know Bob Sach mentioned
it in our pregame show.

Is sit on the committee for the Detroit.

Lions high school football Coach of the Week that's decided
every week during the regular season. Then we have the
Coach of the Year after the state finals Thanksgiving weekend.
And one of the people that myself and also Scott
DeCamp who is on that board with his days with
them live and now working with us as a game reporter,
put up Mick Enders supported Central Buck In three weeks.

They haven't given up a point. Defensively, they've been blown
everybody out, mixed done a tremendous job. But I'm happy
to say this week's Detroit Lions high school football Coach
of the Week for Week three. Last week Mickenders of
Portage Central Lookout. They were ranked number three in the
state of Division two. He had a team that got
to the semi finals and lost Tom A.

I think back in twenty sixteen, he's been out it
sixteen years. Winning percentage career record is like sixty nine
percent of Mickenders Detroit Lions high school football Coach of
the Week for the State of Michigan well, hats off to.

Coach Enders in Portage Central for a long time in
the shadow of Portage North, who under.

A lot of different.

Players ascended and d one players that got to a
high level. But now it's port of de Central's turned

Well and when Caid Coffin comes to throw that fade
and it'll come with time, especially as he gets into
Michigan State and they have a little bit over time
to work with them. With that fade, it's like he
wants to get it there early. He just wants to
make it's okay, you can put some more air under it.
It's almost like he's trying to throw it to us

to a spot rather than let the receiver get to
the spot.

How about this on second and ten full house back
that he goes under center handoff with two lead blockers
to the deep man didn't fool Rockford. They adjusted as
the handoff went to Jesse Phillips and defensively, Sam Cummings
in there.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Good to see him back in there.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Number zero and also big number eight defensively for Rockford.
He's made a lot of plays well.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
They go to the power set, but Rockford does a
great job playing a two gap scheme there with the
front three the defensive line, they block it up, the
linebackers fill in and a really nice job there defensively after.
I mean, East Kent would certainly not known for its
power football formations with Tyro and Spencer.

They tried to pull a fast one and didn't work.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Edmund slot left and he's got a new wide receiver
next to him, Bryce Barnes.

One back of the backfiel Kaufman, quick throw Vanderveen on
the tuck in and he's close to the first down marker.
I think he's got it at the eleven yard line,
comings there to break him to bring him down.

wrestle him down.

That looks like the markers at the twelve. They got
it at the eleven. So here we go fourth and

Kind of ran into his own man got up ended

that time on the carry. Now see your Williams on
fourth in a yard and how about that for a
stop for the Rockford defense.

Well, they try to go onto the quick count, but
you're right, and the sere Williams kind of runs up
and gets clipped a little bit and he loses his feet,
doesn't have a chance to try to plow forward and
get that. I think if he keeps his feet there,
he's got a fighting chance. But as you said, he
runs into the back of his offensive lineman and kind
of gets his own feet taken out and just doesn't
have any momentum.

In Rockford gets a huge stop on fourth down.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
I think literally it was more than its own offensive line.
He knocked him down to the defense for Rockford. But
big play for the Rams. They get the ball back
as East Kentwood was in the red zone.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
What a crazy game so far. Seven to nothing Rockford.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
They take back over with six sixteen left to go
here first half, want to receive the right one to
the left Daniels under center, I formation behind him, pitch
to the deep man.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Peoples and he is stuck.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Didn't get back to the line of scrimmage. Great in
pursuit by that East Kentwood defense.

I've been impressed by the Falcons and guess su the
big fellow in the.

Middle Aames Jones Junior.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
I tell you what, he gets down the line of
scrimmage and stops that time people's for a loss of
what three? Yeah, I mean he's just a massive force inside.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
But you're right, he gets down the line with quickness.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I'm gonna say inside the eight, second and twelve hand
off right side, not trying to take any risk here
for Rockford offensively keeping on the ground people's right side
gets back to the original line of scrimmage to the ten.
So third and ten, this could be a quick three
and out here East Kentwood defense trying to get the
ball back for their offense.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Well, you want to be careful here because you've had
two turnovers in a touchdown and if you're Rockford, you
don't want to gamble in your own end that far.
You gotta be careful. And so I think the first
run was trying to see what they got. East Catwood
smelled it out, and then the second one.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Now you're gonna I.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Don't think they're gonna be super conservative, but if your
East Cattwood feel like you can pin your years back
here trips left.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
One receiver ran Daniels out of the pistol formation, wants
to throw sets off the back down the sideline, got
his man and was he in bounds. He was complete,
then stepped out of bounds after the cats. That's Jack's
ike Bower with a big play. Daniels laid it in
the basket over the top all the way out to
the forty five yard line.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Well, they run ike Bauer single coverage to the right
side of Daniels. They bring the pressure, but it doesn't
get there fast enough and they had safety valves on
the other side.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Daniels had the way to go.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
If he needed to, but ike Bower just beats his
man clean off the line of scrimmage, gets behind him
and that's an easy pitch and catch for Daniels.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Thirty five yards on the reception and now penalty flag
and fall start Rockford. They wanted to go a little
quick tempo there catch East Kentwood defensively.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
I want to say this about number eleven.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
He was our Uptown Chiefskate Player of the Week this
week because all he was last week. Bockstina was perfect
through the year eleven eleven four touchdowns through the year.
Another rushing touchdown. We've seen it on full display. And
I've seen a little seasoning in his game from his
junior year to his seat, maybe more comfortability, maybe the
personnel around him, although he had great personnel last year.
But I'm just saying Daniels is kind of setting into

(11:07):
a comfort zone and he's kent with not really rattling
him well. Like I said, he kind of deferred to
the older guys last year. He was the junior handoff.
Now no fake, the jet sweet gross, Daniel's gonna run underneath,
not much running room against that. He's kept with defense
and there to lead the charge on the stop Christopher
Thompson the second linebacker in the middle for a short

gain out to the forty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
And I also will credit Jason Vandall on the offensive coordinator.
Last year, it felt like the game plan wasn't really
well equipped for what Daniels brought to the table. He
is a runner, he is he is a good passer,
but on the deep side of throwing the football, as
we saw there with Iike Bower, He's got tremendous touch
on the deep ball, but the timing and the crossing
routes that they were trying to run just weren't materializing.

(11:53):
This year, they've gone a little bit more heavy on
the run carry.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
In the backfield high snap. I don't know if that
was that by design, but Daniel's just it said, I'm
gonna take it myself, see what i can get because
they're coming. Does manage to get some positive yarders across
the forty five to the forty six.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
But not much.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Datum chews third down and nine coming up for Rockford
as the clock rolls under four minutes left to go
here first out.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
We won't know if that was a design quarterback run er.
If that was a well, we'll just take what we
can get. But just to cap the point, I think
that Braden Daniels this season is starting to grow into
the role that they want him to take, which is
a leadership role not only off the field, but also
being the key guy on the offense when they need
the yardage.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Dylan Gross in motion right to left, will former slot
with for word of there. Daniel's looking his way to
the left under pressure with those across the middle. Tipton
intercepted on the tip trail at the forty two yard line.
The third turn over the nine for Rockford and Johnny
on the spot was Major Barnes with the I int
for East Kentwood.

A great work by East Kentwood. The fireside defensive end
for them, that was tse.

And I think that was getting held up.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
I thought they were gonna call a holding palty, but
it really didn't matter because as you said, the little
tip and then Major Barns with the interception.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
I mean, you've got Rockford is losing the turnover battle
three to nothing and they're up by a score with
three minutes, three and a half minutes to go into
first half. I mean that just goes to the testament
how well their defense is played so far.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Luca hearn is out there if you're just tuning in.
We weren't sure if he was gonna be the talented
Safty sometimes plays both ways for Rockford, not playing in
the offense yet handoff is he gets the hit there
and rips him down. He just comes in like a
heat seeking missile to the forty five yard line on
the carry that time with Williams gain of three second
and seven and big here.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
As East Kentwood goes.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Tempo again seven to nothing Rockford, but third general for
the Rams, and the throw was a little bit behind
him to the antended receiver. He was hit as the
ball was coming in, but the delivery could have been
better from Daniels.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Well, he was under pressure, right and that was a
compliment of the Kentwood defense and he tried to thread
the needle in there.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
That's the second one that he's tried to do that with.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Here comes Rockford after Kaufin stecks off in the pocket,
got Vanderveen across the middle, up ended as he crosses
the midfield stripe in the Rams territory at the forty
six knocking knocked and up ended that time defensively by
Chase Pitch the quarnerback on the crossing route, but not
before Vanderveen once again picks up a big first down
first in ten falcons.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Well, that interception now gives Kent with a little bit
of momentum as they try to get into the locker
room and they get the ball to start the second half,
they swing it out.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
He was in the back of that time.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Look at a speech hern of the quarner inside the
forty five dances out of bounce knocked out by a
hern at the forty yard line, but they stacked him
just right. To Cad Kaufman, that was I'm on Edmunds,

this time crashing his way in and good second effort
of heart, trying to rip out the football but won't

Yeah, going away from Kaufman again, that's a tough throw
as a young quarterback. The guy going away from you
and needing a little bit of touch there puts it
into Mayhew's hands. But I feel like Mayhew was kind
of an awkward position there. He wanted to try to
get up the field and run with it, but didn't
fully catch the football, didn't get his shoulder square yep.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
So I was just gonna say he was running trying
to avoid the defensive back and didn't square up to
Kaufman to collect the pass. Second down and ten kaufin
play action in the pocket now flushed out on his
right throws on the run, got his man.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Edmonds goes up, want to catch and then times forward.

I think he stayed in bounced, but you know, put
his hand down and dove inside the ten and they're
gonna give him down to the seven yard line. I

and he certainly was mighty there first and goal he came.

I thought maybe his hand went out of bounce, but
a tremendous catch. I mean he was bumped just as
he was catching the football, and tremendous concentration to not
only catch it but get up field and get extra yard.

To get throw by Kaupin on the run handoff in
the middle, now trying to reverse field. Good luck against
the rock for defense, gets a kickout block trying to
get the edge inside the five down to the four
yard line on that carry that time, Davion Nettleman, the
senior running back number fifteen, I think his first carry

Well, I don't think Davion's ever run fifty yards in
to Game three, but that's what happens.

good play there too.

Because it was stopped up to the right, he probably
was gonna take a loss. Able to cut back against
the grain and then did a nice job, little fancy
footwork to get to the outside. And I mean, that's
a really nice effort to get a gain on the
play that really shouldn't have gone anywhere.

From the left task second and goal from the Rockford
four for East Kentwood. Two wide receivers tied to the
left side, one to the right, one back in the backfield.
Conference slam pass tipped, oh almost intercepted.

I think it hit Mayhew.

Otherwise I heard might have been going back the other way,
but someone on that defensive line got their hands up
and got a deflection on it for Rockville.

And Nick Manner came in from the outside linebacker slash
defense end. Sometimes he'll go down, sometimes he'll stand up,
but he's been the guy that's bringing the most pressure
from the outside. That time he was able to get
his hand up and almost caused e turnal.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Fifty five seconds left to go first half, big third
and goal from the four for e K trailing seven
to nothing. Hand off, No, Kaufman pulls it out, wants
a tuck around the right side, crashing of the end zone.

Well, you wonder what they would have chosen to do
had he not gotten to the end zone. They went
for it on fourth and one from the eleven. That time,
third and goal from the four, but KD. Kaufman makes
it academic piles into the end zone. And that's something
we haven't had to see a lot of. Is kid
Kaufman running the football but puts his head down and
knives through the defense to get it to one point.

and Daniels doesn't quite step into it, goes a little

said not so fast that Big Braiden Daniels passed to
Jack Seikebauer set up a pass for Rayden Daniels to
Jack Cummings with only twelve seconds to go in the second,
but wrapped up fourteen to seven at the break. Rockford
then a twelve play, six minute and second drive covering

ninety eight yards. The last two yards of that cover
other than Luke Hearn, who was in a boot earlier
that people didn't even know if he was going to play. Well,
not only did he play, he played on both sides
of the football and had the clinching score that made
the score twenty one to seven in favor of Rockford.
Then East Kent Wood goes down very quickly after that,

Cad Coffin with a thirty nine yard touchdown on a
run to cut the score to twenty one to fourteen.
But that's where it would end, as East finally ran
out of time at their own thirty five yard line,
trying to make one last gas attempt at tying this
football game. A great game by both teams. Rockford on
top twenty one to fourteen here at Carlson Munger Stadium.

two quality football teams fun to watch in this Oka

and have the camaraderie that they just did.

They had a little kind of prayer or ceremony there
with one of the East Kentwood coaches.

They called everybody over. Great to see.

I love it, especially in the times we're living in
right now. People just need to love on one another,
and high school sports or sports in general, brings people together,
brings communities together, and certainly you're right, a great show
of affectionaire between the Rockford and East Kentwood communities. Well
that leads us into our uptown cheapskate offensive player of
the game and Buck g you know, I'll let you
have the honors tonight.

Well, we had a lot of candidates, as we normally do,
but a guy that wasn't even supposed to play did
not start, and he certainly didn't start on offense, but
he ended up getting there because the starting quarterback got
dinged up and they're like, well, we need somebody to
get us down the field, and that somebody was Luca Hearn,

(01:35:24):
and he scored the game clinching touchdown on Rockford's second
to last drive of the football game. That was the
one that went twelve plays, six minutes and thirty two seconds.
It was legitimately smash mouthed football, single wing, seven guys
in the line, four backs in the backfield and just
snap it to Luke and see what happens. Luca Hearn,

have final stats, but the game clinching touchdown when he
was in a boot on Tuesday, is pretty worthy of
