Speaker 1 (00:00):
Edmonds makes a man miss hanging on now with the
ankle tackle and dragging him down close to that first
down marker on the stop was PJ.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
LeBlanc, the senior defensive back.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
But Edmonds now coming to life in that slot with
those crossing routes well.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Also the tempo helping East Kent would catch Rockford in
a little bit more base defense. Randy Vandervene doesn't have
as much time to adjust or get different personnel in there,
nor can they cycle guys out if they're getting tired.
This time they go a little bit slower and more
traditional and actually say Rockford's gonna call a time out here.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, I think Randy vandervew wants to get every one
of the same page. Nice gain of eight sets up
second and two time out of the field, so we'll
step us out as well.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Eight twenty one left to go.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
First half, it's Rockford seven East Kent with nothing but
the Falcons on the move. We returned right here on
ninety six to one the game Falcons on the move,
second down and two coming up. Bug gino And let's
remind everyone, Bob Sack and our live game reporters, we've
got some great games here in week four EGR Catholic, Central,
(01:03):
Cedar Springs, Kenawa Hills Zealand East uniy Christian. All those
game reporters coming up with Bob and the scores and
more with our host JEPS and Physical Therapy halftime show.
You know tonight's players have worked hard to get their
bodies ready for competition. And Holst Jefs and Physical Therapy
wants you to stay in the game no matter what
level of activity you desire. They get patients here within
twenty four to forty eight hours. Take the word of
myself for Rick Burker, we've both used them to rehab
(01:26):
from injuries. Holt Jefs and Physical Therapy Restoring body, reviving spirit.
Ret Pikeet along with Buck Chino, crossed the way here
from the main press box at Carlson Munger Stadium for
this one. Seven nothing rock for but East kent Wood
on the move.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Here two wide receivers to the left, one of the right.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
This one blown dead legal procedure against East Kentwood.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Someone got a little start.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Early well, I mean, if you Tyro and Spencer coming
out of a timeout less than ideal, as we saw
a couple days ago on Sunday with the Mimy Dolphins. Yeah,
coming out of the timeout committee two penalties. I mean, yeah,
it wasn't your time out, but you still you still
went over there and had the confat So that's a
(02:09):
rough one to take there, especially after a nice game
on first down got you pretty close. Now you're gonna
have to change the play based on the yardage.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Back them up five second and seven from the Rockford
thirty seven slot.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Left, Wonder receiver right his fan.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Er feet play fake out of the gun, wants to
go with a fade down the sideline, got his man
out there with his step, but too far. The intended
receiver that time was Stephen Jones, and he had on
a little move to the inside his defender beat, but
just too far in the delivery for Kaufman trying to
get it towards that sideline.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
But it's a couple of yards over his head.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Well, I think that's again the pressure coughing hearing the
footsteps of the Rams offense.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
He had the time, it was a clean pocket.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
He just overthrows it a little bit as Jones hadn't
quite gotten to the spot and in motion from left
to right.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Coffin looks left. Now back to the right, just gonna
throw that one away. There was a man there and
he threw it towards a line of scrimmage, Andy and
he got it across the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Just barely, though it wasn't by much.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Well, I I mean in high school they usually give
him right a pretty wide leeway.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I think here that I don't think you punt the football.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
No, that's why I think he just threw it away
because he knew it was two down territory.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, well, they're in by I gotta get a trademark
or something. It's the grey zone, it's the forty to
the twenty. You got you're not kicking the field goal.
You're not punting the football, now, did they? They've got
it as gonna say, Yeah, they tried to stop the
clock here.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I spent a lot of time out. They weren't all
on the same page as far as that is.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Well, I mean the official called, they call the time out,
and the players who wind up going coach, what's the play?
And he's standing out there and going, well, if you
come over here, I'll tell you.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
One of the things that I'm privileged to do every
high school football season, and I know Bob Sach mentioned
it in our pregame show.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Is sit on the committee for the Detroit.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Lions high school football Coach of the Week that's decided
every week during the regular season. Then we have the
Coach of the Year after the state finals Thanksgiving weekend.
And one of the people that myself and also Scott
DeCamp who is on that board with his days with
them live and now working with us as a game reporter,
put up Mick Enders supported Central Buck In three weeks.
(04:21):
They haven't given up a point. Defensively, they've been blown
everybody out, mixed done a tremendous job. But I'm happy
to say this week's Detroit Lions high school football Coach
of the Week for Week three. Last week Mickenders of
Portage Central Lookout. They were ranked number three in the
state of Division two. He had a team that got
to the semi finals and lost Tom A.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Skegan.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I think back in twenty sixteen, he's been out it
sixteen years. Winning percentage career record is like sixty nine
percent of Mickenders Detroit Lions high school football Coach of
the Week for the State of Michigan well, hats off to.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Coach Enders in Portage Central for a long time in
the shadow of Portage North, who under.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
A lot of different.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Players ascended and d one players that got to a
high level. But now it's port of de Central's turned
again and coach mckenders has them rowing.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
So far Mayhwan motion from right to level four and
trips to the white side of the field. Kaufen rolling
that way and fourth and seven now back penally trying
to buy some time, throws across the back of the field. Vanderveen,
he's got it at the twenty five first and ten.
I'll bend it at the twenty yard line. Boy, that
was some composure by number eight kid Kauf in that time.
Want to go left game back to the safety valve
(05:33):
right in a big catch for Owen vanderbtell.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
That's a great job there by Owen.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Vanderveen as well, recognizing his quarterback is in distress, works
back and gets open for the throw.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Here's the temple.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
They're ready to go again with a fade pantern out there,
but too far that time you're the pylon incomplete looking
for Jones, Stephen Jones again.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well and when Caid Coffin comes to throw that fade
and it'll come with time, especially as he gets into
Michigan State and they have a little bit over time
to work with them. With that fade, it's like he
wants to get it there early. He just wants to
make it's okay, you can put some more air under it.
It's almost like he's trying to throw it to us
(06:15):
to a spot rather than let the receiver get to
the spot.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
He'll get there though.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
How about this on second and ten full house back
that he goes under center handoff with two lead blockers
to the deep man didn't fool Rockford. They adjusted as
the handoff went to Jesse Phillips and defensively, Sam Cummings
in there.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Good to see him back in there.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Number zero and also big number eight defensively for Rockford.
He's made a lot of plays well.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
They go to the power set, but Rockford does a
great job playing a two gap scheme there with the
front three the defensive line, they block it up, the
linebackers fill in and a really nice job there defensively after.
I mean, East Kent would certainly not known for its
power football formations with Tyro and Spencer.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
They tried to pull a fast one and didn't work.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Edmund slot left and he's got a new wide receiver
next to him, Bryce Barnes.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Two wide receivers to the right, third and nine.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
One back of the backfiel Kaufman, quick throw Vanderveen on
the tuck in and he's close to the first down marker.
I think he's got it at the eleven yard line,
comings there to break him to bring him down.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
But he broke the initial tackle.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Defensively that time, as it was PJ. LeBlanc trying to
wrestle him down.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
We'll be fourth down. He needed to get to the ten.
Oh wow, so he will be a full yard shortened boy.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
The chain gangs. That looks a little off there.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
That looks like the markers at the twelve. They got
it at the eleven. So here we go fourth and
one hand off and cashing closed. I don't know, No,
they didn't give it to him on the spot. Well
the far side official, I know it goes near side.
They didn't tell No, they're gonna say he's stopped him short.
Kind of ran into his own man got up ended
(07:56):
that time on the carry. Now see your Williams on
fourth in a yard and how about that for a
stop for the Rockford defense.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Well, they try to go onto the quick count, but
you're right, and the sere Williams kind of runs up
and gets clipped a little bit and he loses his feet,
doesn't have a chance to try to plow forward and
get that. I think if he keeps his feet there,
he's got a fighting chance. But as you said, he
runs into the back of his offensive lineman and kind
of gets his own feet taken out and just doesn't
have any momentum.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
In Rockford gets a huge stop on fourth down.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I think literally it was more than its own offensive line.
He knocked him down to the defense for Rockford. But
big play for the Rams. They get the ball back
as East Kentwood was in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
What a crazy game so far. Seven to nothing Rockford.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
They take back over with six sixteen left to go
here first half, want to receive the right one to
the left Daniels under center, I formation behind him, pitch
to the deep man.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Peoples and he is stuck.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Didn't get back to the line of scrimmage. Great in
pursuit by that East Kentwood defense.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
I tell you.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
I've been impressed by the Falcons and guess su the
big fellow in the.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Middle Aames Jones Junior.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I tell you what, he gets down the line of
scrimmage and stops that time people's for a loss of
what three? Yeah, I mean he's just a massive force inside.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
But you're right, he gets down the line with quickness.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I'm gonna say inside the eight, second and twelve hand
off right side, not trying to take any risk here
for Rockford offensively keeping on the ground people's right side
gets back to the original line of scrimmage to the ten.
So third and ten, this could be a quick three
and out here East Kentwood defense trying to get the
ball back for their offense.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Well, you want to be careful here because you've had
two turnovers in a touchdown and if you're Rockford, you
don't want to gamble in your own end that far.
You gotta be careful. And so I think the first
run was trying to see what they got. East Catwood
smelled it out, and then the second one.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Now you're gonna I.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Don't think they're gonna be super conservative, but if your
East Cattwood feel like you can pin your years back
here trips left.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
One receiver ran Daniels out of the pistol formation, wants
to throw sets off the back down the sideline, got
his man and was he in bounds. He was complete,
then stepped out of bounds after the cats. That's Jack's
ike Bower with a big play. Daniels laid it in
the basket over the top all the way out to
the forty five yard line.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Well, they run ike Bauer single coverage to the right
side of Daniels. They bring the pressure, but it doesn't
get there fast enough and they had safety valves on
the other side.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Daniels had the way to go.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
If he needed to, but ike Bower just beats his
man clean off the line of scrimmage, gets behind him
and that's an easy pitch and catch for Daniels.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Thirty five yards on the reception and now penalty flag
and fall start Rockford. They wanted to go a little
quick tempo there catch East Kentwood defensively.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
I want to say this about number eleven.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
He was our Uptown Chiefskate Player of the Week this
week because all he was last week. Bockstina was perfect
through the year eleven eleven four touchdowns through the year.
Another rushing touchdown. We've seen it on full display. And
I've seen a little seasoning in his game from his
junior year to his seat, maybe more comfortability, maybe the
personnel around him, although he had great personnel last year.
But I'm just saying Daniels is kind of setting into
(11:07):
a comfort zone and he's kent with not really rattling
him well. Like I said, he kind of deferred to
the older guys last year. He was the junior handoff.
Now no fake, the jet sweet gross, Daniel's gonna run underneath,
not much running room against that. He's kept with defense
and there to lead the charge on the stop Christopher
Thompson the second linebacker in the middle for a short
(11:29):
gain out to the forty four yard line.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
And I also will credit Jason Vandall on the offensive coordinator.
Last year, it felt like the game plan wasn't really
well equipped for what Daniels brought to the table. He
is a runner, he is he is a good passer,
but on the deep side of throwing the football, as
we saw there with Iike Bower, He's got tremendous touch
on the deep ball, but the timing and the crossing
routes that they were trying to run just weren't materializing.
(11:53):
This year, they've gone a little bit more heavy on
the run carry.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
In the backfield high snap. I don't know if that
was that by design, but Daniel's just it said, I'm
gonna take it myself, see what i can get because
they're coming. Does manage to get some positive yarders across
the forty five to the forty six.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
But not much.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Datum chews third down and nine coming up for Rockford
as the clock rolls under four minutes left to go
here first out.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
We won't know if that was a design quarterback run er.
If that was a well, we'll just take what we
can get. But just to cap the point, I think
that Braden Daniels this season is starting to grow into
the role that they want him to take, which is
a leadership role not only off the field, but also
being the key guy on the offense when they need
the yardage.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Dylan Gross in motion right to left, will former slot
with for word of there. Daniel's looking his way to
the left under pressure with those across the middle. Tipton
intercepted on the tip trail at the forty two yard line.
The third turn over the nine for Rockford and Johnny
on the spot was Major Barnes with the I int
for East Kentwood.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
A great work by East Kentwood. The fireside defensive end
for them, that was tse.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
And I think that was getting held up.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
I thought they were gonna call a holding palty, but
it really didn't matter because as you said, the little
tip and then Major Barns with the interception.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
I mean, you've got Rockford is losing the turnover battle
three to nothing and they're up by a score with
three minutes, three and a half minutes to go into
first half. I mean that just goes to the testament
how well their defense is played so far.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Luca hearn is out there if you're just tuning in.
We weren't sure if he was gonna be the talented
Safty sometimes plays both ways for Rockford, not playing in
the offense yet handoff is he gets the hit there
and rips him down. He just comes in like a
heat seeking missile to the forty five yard line on
the carry that time with Williams gain of three second
and seven and big here.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
As East Kentwood goes.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Tempo again seven to nothing Rockford, but third general for
the Rams, and the throw was a little bit behind
him to the antended receiver. He was hit as the
ball was coming in, but the delivery could have been
better from Daniels.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Well, he was under pressure, right and that was a
compliment of the Kentwood defense and he tried to thread
the needle in there.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
That's the second one that he's tried to do that with.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Here comes Rockford after Kaufin stecks off in the pocket,
got Vanderveen across the middle, up ended as he crosses
the midfield stripe in the Rams territory at the forty
six knocking knocked and up ended that time defensively by
Chase Pitch the quarnerback on the crossing route, but not
before Vanderveen once again picks up a big first down
first in ten falcons.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Well, that interception now gives Kent with a little bit
of momentum as they try to get into the locker
room and they get the ball to start the second half,
they swing it out.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
He was in the back of that time.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Look at a speech hern of the quarner inside the
forty five dances out of bounce knocked out by a
hern at the forty yard line, but they stacked him
just right. To Cad Kaufman, that was I'm on Edmunds,
the slot man as a running back that time, and
just it's like a handoff, swing it out in the
flats and let's see what.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
He can do well.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
I mean, they're doing a great job out there. But
apparently we're just not gonna call holding today because there
was a guy on the outside that there was a
fistful of horror into jersey and he kept trying to run.
But that's where you see the edmund speed there too.
Just get into the corner so fast. Andy lucif gain of.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Six second and four hand off to a traditional running back,
this time crashing his way in and good second effort
of heart, trying to rip out the football but won't
at the thirty five, picking up the first down a
little bit more, move the chains first to ten as
Jesse Phillips he's a hard runner and a load in
there for he's kent. What he's saying feed me, looking
over to Ty Spencer and the coaching staff.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Two sixteen and Tickie left to go.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
He's kent, would now slowing things down a little bit
temple wise into Rockford territory first and ten at the
Rams thirty five yard line.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Well, I like the changes of pace from Tyrone Spencer.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Sometimes they go tempo, sometimes they don't keep the defense
off balance slot.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Left of the white So I feel Kate Coffin takes
the snapperloling that way looking for Mayhew and the flats incomplete.
It's a little high for the big fella trying to
bring it in. Stops the clock with one fifty six
left to go, and don't forget scores him more with
our live game reporters and Bob Sack coming up and
the Holt Jefson physical therapy halftime shock.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yeah, going away from Kaufman again, that's a tough throw
as a young quarterback. The guy going away from you
and needing a little bit of touch there puts it
into Mayhew's hands. But I feel like Mayhew was kind
of an awkward position there. He wanted to try to
get up the field and run with it, but didn't
fully catch the football, didn't get his shoulder square yep.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
So I was just gonna say he was running trying
to avoid the defensive back and didn't square up to
Kaufman to collect the pass. Second down and ten kaufin
play action in the pocket now flushed out on his
right throws on the run, got his man.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Edmonds goes up, want to catch and then times forward.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
I think he stayed in bounced, but you know, put
his hand down and dove inside the ten and they're
gonna give him down to the seven yard line. I
want to play by number four. They call him Mighty Edmonds,
and he certainly was mighty there first and goal he came.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I thought maybe his hand went out of bounce, but
a tremendous catch. I mean he was bumped just as
he was catching the football, and tremendous concentration to not
only catch it but get up field and get extra yard.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
To get throw by Kaupin on the run handoff in
the middle, now trying to reverse field. Good luck against
the rock for defense, gets a kickout block trying to
get the edge inside the five down to the four
yard line on that carry that time, Davion Nettleman, the
senior running back number fifteen, I think his first carry
of the night.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Well, I don't think Davion's ever run fifty yards in
to Game three, but that's what happens.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
He gonna have to come out. But that's a really
good play there too.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Because it was stopped up to the right, he probably
was gonna take a loss. Able to cut back against
the grain and then did a nice job, little fancy
footwork to get to the outside. And I mean, that's
a really nice effort to get a gain on the
play that really shouldn't have gone anywhere.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
From the left task second and goal from the Rockford
four for East Kentwood. Two wide receivers tied to the
left side, one to the right, one back in the backfield.
Conference slam pass tipped, oh almost intercepted.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
I think it hit Mayhew.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Otherwise I heard might have been going back the other way,
but someone on that defensive line got their hands up
and got a deflection on it for Rockville.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
And Nick Manner came in from the outside linebacker slash
defense end. Sometimes he'll go down, sometimes he'll stand up,
but he's been the guy that's bringing the most pressure
from the outside. That time he was able to get
his hand up and almost caused e turnal.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Fifty five seconds left to go first half, big third
and goal from the four for e K trailing seven
to nothing. Hand off, No, Kaufman pulls it out, wants
a tuck around the right side, crashing of the end zone.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Touchdown.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Kate Kaufman, the quarterback, around the right side from four
yards out and he makes it a one point game,
seven to six.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Well, you wonder what they would have chosen to do
had he not gotten to the end zone. They went
for it on fourth and one from the eleven. That time,
third and goal from the four, but KD. Kaufman makes
it academic piles into the end zone. And that's something
we haven't had to see a lot of. Is kid
Kaufman running the football but puts his head down and
knives through the defense to get it to one point.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Kaden Cox, the sophomore, is your holder. Jayden Garcia will
try to tie things up here. The traditional point after
snap is a good one, hold is down, plenty of
leg by Garcia.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
It is up and it is good. So with forty nine.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Seconds left to go first half, East Kentwood gets the equalizer.
It's Rockford seven, East kent Wood seven, And you're listening
to a Week four edition of the LMCU High School
Football Game of the week here on ninety six to one.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
The game.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Stand ingroom only crowd all the way around on both sides.
Buck Gino on a beautiful Week four night for football
here in Rockford. Time at seven apiece as Garcia line
drive kicks it away and that one's gonna be fielded
at the one. Ike Bower brings up the middle of
the field cross a ten fifteen to twenty hit and
they're trying to strip the football. He'll be wrestled down
(19:54):
at the twenty five yard.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Line, so Rockford will go back on offense.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Forty three seconds left to go first half, and let's
recap that equalized with an impressive scoring drive there for
East Kentwood.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Nine plays, two minutes and forty one seconds time for possession,
fifty eight yards traveled in all and four of those
the last by Cad.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Coffin a four yard touchdown run.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
The pat was good and the score tied at seven
with under a minute to play in the first half.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
That's another touchdown for kids to benefit Kids Food Basket
with Lake Michigan Credit Union now one hundred dollars on
the night in our game, fifty dollars for every touchdown
you can make a donation at kids' food basket. Dot
to work, Braydon Daniels now showing they want to throw
the football. Here, two wide receivers each way out of
the pistol formation looking looking fires in the flats and
low incomplete is the call looking for Jack Cummings, the sophomore.
(20:43):
That's a long thrill across the field. A little down
and out pattern by Daniels.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Well, it takes a long time to develop as well,
and Daniels doesn't quite step into it, goes a little
bit short and now second down. You gotta be careful here.
If you're East Kettwood, you just gotta keep the fall
in front of you. You can let him have the
short catches. Just don't let anybody get beat you.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
D Both teams have used just one time out, so
two remaining for Eastketwood and for rockerder Gross In the
motion they faked the Jets sweet want us up the show?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Oh dangerous, Oh big fella.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
No scard in the middle knocked out away James Jones Junior.
He was looking for peoples on that little screen to
the right we saw earlier, but he threw it behind
him and then people's got a hand on it.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
But went up in the air.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Well and the gravitational pull of James Jones Junior brought
the ball closer.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
He's like an orbited plan.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
I mean he had he had three guys trying to
block him, number one he did. I mean, that's just
a lot of guy that you're trying to keep out
of the backfield.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Oh I snap, but Daniels goes up and gets it.
Now just get a tuck and run. He's got running
room across the thirty five. Still on his feet, he's
got a first.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Down and more.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Boy, his impromptu skills tremendous there with running the football
as a quarterback out to the forties. So it'll be
first and ten and now Rockford going to burn a time.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Here, Yeah, the clock would have.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Left play. So you take one here. That's one left
and now if you're Rockford, I don't really know what
the range of hookerd is, but you probably got to
get inside the thirty for him to even think about it.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
One of the things we want to mention real quick,
why of a moment we have changed our LMCU game.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Of the week for next week.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
On our original schedule, if you go down to nine
six one, thegame dot com. You will see the change.
But excited about this buck Gino. The Holland Dutch are
making some noise out there. They played Holland Christian Tuff
last week. I know they got a big game at
Comstock Park tonight. But now in the OK Silver under
a new head coach who's really building up this program,
we decided to change our game and Belding is the
(22:43):
three time champ of the OK Silver. Billy got by
Hopkins but did last week eight to seven. Belding travels
to Ryan Seuss Smith Stadium out in Holland. We're hope
College plays and they take on the Dutch next Fronday night.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
We will be there with a call. On ninety six.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Won the game, our first ever Holland football.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
I mean, I haven't been out there for I mean
it's been probably fifteen years since I've been out there.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
But it's exciting to do a matchup with the Dutch.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
First down in ten, Daniels wants to air it out
up the sideline. Got a man out there. Ekebower reaches
out and makes the grab, has to die to do so,
but I think he hauled it in. They're gonna call
it a good catch. At the twenty two yard.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Line all of East Catwood.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Wow, that's the second time tonight Daniels has aired out
up the sideline of.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
The far side to Ike Bower, that's the one that
you can't have.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
He can't get beat deep, especially on single coverage, and
they're gonna spike it here.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
They've only got one time out, twenty seconds left.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I forgot that's what Daniels looked like. He touched an
electric fence. I thought, what is he doing? Oh yeah,
they're spiking the football. I mean, Ike Bower's had single
coverage the entire time and he's they've burned it twice.
That he's burned them twice. And that's the one thing
you just couldn't afford if your East Catwood. Now they're
fully in field goal range and they still with one
(24:01):
time out, have a touchdown on the table and twice it.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Went thirty plus yards.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
That was thirty eight over the top, trips left to
the watch side of the field. They worked for the
right ash second down, and ten after the spike, Daniels
takes a snap looking looking thrown across the middle, floating
out there for Cummings touchdown. Rockford over the top dropped
it in the basket, Comings got behind his guy, covering
him for the score and Rockford now takes the lead
once again, thirteen to seven.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Well for East Camwood, the pressure does not get home.
But you've got to have better coverage in the backfield.
You're getting guys beaten by two strides. I mean this
is I mean Daniels is throwing nice passes that are
landing in for the touchdown and of the deep pass
to Ike Power, But I mean you got guys opened
(24:50):
by five six feet there.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
That's something that just can't happen.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
You've got guys that need to be on top of
those receivers, especially.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Laid here in the half Braydon Daniel's first touchdown pass
of the that he comes with twelve seconds left to
go first half, as Rockford regains the lead thirteen to seven.
Extra point up coming here by Dawson Hoker right from
the middle of the field, kicking towards the south end zone.
Snap is it going, Holder gets it down, kick is up,
(25:19):
plenty of leg and it is through. So with twelve
seconds left to go first half, our score now reads
Rockford fourteen East Kentwood seven.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
We'll come back with the conclusion of the first half.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
After this, as you're listening to the LMCU high School
Football Game of the Week here on ninety six to
one the Gate, Bob Sack, Joe Errant getting ready back
in the ninety six to one the game Studios Downtown,
our prize kicking off and they'll have scores and more.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Our live game reporters.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Man some good games East Grand Rapids and Catholic Central
with Scott Moore, Cena Springs and Kitt Wheels with Bo Hoompson,
Reese Puffer at Mona Shores as the Sailor's Salute game Buck.
We've been out there for the their ninth Adel Scott DeCamp.
We have a live reports Zeland East the Unity Christen
Battle of three and zero teams. We talked to Joe
Woodriff this week on the high School Football Preview show.
He's all fired up. Lucas Simba will be out there.
(26:11):
All those coming up in more plus any scores that
we don't have reporters at with Bob Sack filling in
for Rick Burkey tonight clost Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show.
But first the final twelve seconds kicking it away, line
driving kick that'll be in the end zone, automatic touchback
by Hokers got a leg, So Kate confident East Kentwood.
What is Ty Spencer gonna do here? It's a fourteen
(26:33):
to seven game in favor of the Rams here in
week four, Rockford coming in at two to one.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Little momentum after that come from behind win.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Two weeks ago at Muskegan by the way Mark Cisco
and Byron Center out at Hackley Stadium tonight. But East
Kentwood three and ZHO putting a lot of points in
the board. Only seven here of the first half, and
let's see what they decided to do first and ten
from their own twenty fourteen to seven.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Rockford, who coming on late now, well, I mean I
don't expect him to do a whole lot here.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
They are doing two wide receivers each side though, like
we saw Rockford come out in that last series.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Well, Rockford's gonna play prevent defense though, and Kate Coffin
probably just gonna sell for something short.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
One back in the backfield is Williams coff I'm gonna
throw complete out in the flats. Edmonds quickly gets out
of bounds after a short gain of five and see
if they spot him out the twenty five or the
twenty six yard lige gain of six second and four
took four seconds, eight seconds left here first half.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Probably can do that one more time and then it's
gonna have to be the heave down field.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Don't forget coming up tonight in the fourth quarter. Fans
your chance to be a wing Doozy fan of the
game for week four. Score twenty five dollars gift card
for the best wings in West Miski with Wing Doosey.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
So stay tuned. They've you got two time outs. They
could go to the middle of the field there. You
just gotta be careful with how much time you take.
Eight seconds left. Kaufin rolling to his right under some pressure.
Now gonna tuck and run.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
He's got a lot of room across the thirty thirty five,
forty five fifty. Let's see if he get out of
the mountain. And he does, but he's out of time.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
I think yep.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Time ran out on Kauf and it was gonna be close.
They say got out of the rock forty eight, and
that's the way the teams will end the half and
head to the locker room.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Well, was exciting.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
He made the right choice, but just ran out of time,
and so our score at the break in a good
one here in this whole care red showdown Rockford fourteen
East Kentwood seven. Stay with us after the break, we'll
send you back down town to our six won the game. Studios,
Bob Sacks standing by with the whole Jepson Physical Therapy
halftime show right here on your hull for high school
(28:40):
football ninety six to one the game, Great John, Bob
Sack and our game reporters for the whole Jepson Physical
Therapy halftime Show. Now we take over before we get
you into the second half. Fourteen to seven are score
Rockford Kentwood in this okay red showdown.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Huge crowd here.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
On veterans and youth nights, red white and blue flying
everywhere along with the orange plaquet the black, red and
white of East Kentwood.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
But a huge crowd here on hand.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
And let's recap that first half scoring and also get
your keys to the second half here as both teams
making adjustments out of the field from.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
The locker room.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Well stopping this we've heard of the four on our
broadcast this year. Scoreless first quarter and then in the
second Rockford drawing first blood a nineteen yard run by
a running back Hayden Peoples, and.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
The score was seven to nothing.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
East Kentwood answered not till almost under almost the second half.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
It almost expired. It was under a minute ago.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
And then finally Cade Coffin on a third and goal
from the four dashes in. They had one chance previously
that they were stuffed on that time Coffin would not
be denied as he ties the score at seven apiece,
and then Rockford right down the field a big pass
to Jack Seychbauer the second such of the half, and
then a twenty two yard passed from Brandon Daniels to
(30:03):
Jack Cummings.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
The point after was good by Hokert.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
And that's where we stand right now with these coming
to get it ready to take the football to start
the second half.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Fourteen to seven in favor of Rockford.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
All right, that's your first half scoring summary.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
It's brought to you by MKD Funeral Homes, every story,
every moment, every day, four generations, eight location to serve you.
Find out what they have to offer an MKD Funeral
Home that's singular mkdfeuderal hoome dot com I'll go right
back to you. But you know, now with your vandal
lot horn improvement keys to the second half, East kent
would found something a little bit in that second quarter offensively,
but I think Brydon Daniels had that one pick, has
(30:37):
played pretty well tonight leading that ship.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
For Rockford.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Well, they had three turnovers and they're up fourteen to seven, right,
So if you're Rockford, you've got to feel like, hey,
if we can just you know, stop giving them the ball,
we'll probably be able to win this one, maybe even
going away. So if you're to Rockford, the key is
obviously just stop giving East Kentwood the football. And he
has some sustained drives for East Kentwood. The key for
them they just can not continue to give up the
(31:01):
deep passes behind the defense. That has happened not only
on the last drive that put them behind again, but
it has happened multiple times where they have found receivers
way behind the last guy that's supposed to be back there,
so they have to adjust defensively. They're hoping that the
pressure is able to get to Daniels before he's able
to release the football, and hasn't done that. A couple
(31:23):
of times and that's why the Rams right now are
up fourteen to seven.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Johnson Hooker set to kick its toward the south end
zone here from right to left end or radio Dwaln
goes with a squib kick, remembering I'm on Edmonds's back
deep fields and on the scoop at his own two
comes across the fire to the middlefield ten knocks down
a defender. Wow, he delivered to hit there and fights
his way out near the twenty yard line. Feel that
the two as a return of eighteen yards by the
(31:47):
little man.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
They call him Mighty Edmunds. And you saw it there.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
I mean that rock for defender looked like you was
gonna lay him out and it was just the reverse.
Edmunds lays the blow first in ten Kate Confident Company
from their own twenty yard line to the second half.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Brought to you by Vandalid Home Improvement. Don't forget Vandalin.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Of Home Improvement offers top notch contractor services, roofing, signing, windows,
whatever you need. Visit Vandalions double landlines dot Com.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Kind of surprised they went with the squibkick there right,
thinking maybe they're gonna be able to trap with with
a little bit what worse field position, but and Hooker
has been able to put the ball in the end
zone with ease.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Kaufin play action throws and almost intercepted. It was behind Vanderveen.
I'm a little down and out at the thirty. But
then on the jip drill almost it went off his fingertips,
intercepted by Dylan Gross who's in there on comforts for Rockford.
Incomplete second and ten coming up for Coffin and the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Well, that one behind the receiver there, and Kaufin just
gets out a little bit early and he's coming out
of the break and he just hasn't turned around yet
and it was behind him.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
And they're lucky that they get to keep the ball here.
On second down.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Now, Sir Williams to the left of Kaufan, and Kaufman
was gonna fake it to him, pull it out. The
ball hits the turfiness as to scoop it and see
what he can get, and does pretty well out across
the twenty five to the twenty six yard line at
a broken play. I think a little confused on whether
Williams is supposed to get that or not, but give
him six and it's a manageable believe it or not,
(33:15):
third and four for Keentwood.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Well, what we've seen so far is both quarterbacks aret
have excelled when the proverbial material has hit the fan,
on the on the snap or in the backfield. Both
quarterbacks doing a really good job of making something out
of nothing, and that time Kaufman avoid a disaster and
then makes it third and manageable.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I'm and Edmonds in motion left to right. They'll run
underneath with the handoff. That's Williams and William's fighting for
extra yardage, dives out across the thirty to the thirty
three yard line. He's got it. Pick up of seven.
They need to just four move the chains first and ten.
That's a big third don conversion for ek.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Well, and that's Rockford again.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
You feel like, if you can get that stop, you're
gonna have decent field position.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Just a couple of mistackles.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Not that it's easy to bring down to Sir Williams,
but you feel like if you got him one on one,
their hands around, you thought you should be able to
bring him down. And that's been a couple of times
now where East Kevin has been able to break some
tackles and gain extra yardage.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Blake Daniels near side defensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
They go four down linemen here on first and ten,
keeping on the ground as Williams right over center, not
much running rooms stacked up at the thirty five. In
their defense was the inside linebacker Sam Cummings. So Spencer
Munson is your nose card. Jack Manata is one linebacker
number zero, Sam Cummings, the senior linebacker the coaches sun
(34:36):
is in there tonight. The other inside backer Drew ram
One defensive tackle Blake Daniels, the sophomore, the other d lineman,
and a pretty good secondary led by safety Luca Hearn
who's in the lineup tonight. Second down and nine hand
off Williams bit crease, this time over the left side.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Across the forty so on his s feet bounce of.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
The outside trying to get to the edge, and he's
close to that first down marker.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Good Williams.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Good run by Williams breaking a couple of tackles out
to the forty three online that's enough to move the
chains first intended.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Now Williams comes up hobbling.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Yeah, it looked like he kind of got he tried
to stretch out a little bit for extra yardage and
may have hyper extended something or maybe got rolled.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Up out of a little ramp too a little bit.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
We'll see. I think you're right. I think maybe rolled
up on that ankle coming in for him. We saw
him briefly daveyond Kettleman, the junior this time the handoff
though the other way, trying to go wide nothing doing
great job by the linebacker. He is standing in Wyatt Colson,
only a junior number eight, flying all over the footballs.
(35:40):
He just ran him down from the backside as they
went to the handoff to Jesse Phillips, the experienced bigger back.
No games, second down and ten East Kentwood opening offensive
drive of the second half, and they've got it at
their own forty three.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Yeah, you kin'd of feel like with Phillips there, they
ran a little bit of a sprint to the right.
Jesse's got some speed, but he's built more for north
south running there. Just the pursuit by Rockford was able
to capture him before he was able to get any
momentum and get his shoulders upfield. Netlman now just to
the left of Kaufman, out of the pistol formation.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
They fake it to him. Coffin back to pass. Lookout
Voyt's the pressure going for the deep Mall got him
out there, but double covered good bracket coverage at that
time looking for Vanderveen on the post. Dylan Gross was
back there, and also back there defensively for the Rams
was PJ.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
LeBlanc, the safety. Well.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Vanderveen didn't even really get a chance to look up
for the football. He was so occupied with trying to
get free from the bracket coverage downfield.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Now there was a little pressure. A good pickup there.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
By Mayhew to at least divert the pressure, but he
wasn't able to lock him up, so Keith Kauffin had
to throw the ball a little bit early. You think
if he was able to hold it, maybe Vanderbin's able
to turn inside.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Nick Manner showing blitz and now drops out with a
slot to his side. Third down and ten Kaufman, welling
to the left, squares his show. There's fires incomplete looking
form on Edmunds at the forty six yard line.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Good job by Dylan Gross to knock it away.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
For Rockford Well and they get coughing out there. I'm sorry,
Mason Plane. There's two number twos. That's one of those numbers.
Mason Plain has been in there on the defensive side.
Number two who knocked it away for Rockford, Dylan Gross
the offensive number two.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Okay, so checklist, Yeah, name tags and just a couple
more fans and besides college in the press box.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Am I right?
Speaker 1 (37:37):
I mean Rockford's really the only high school I've never
seen it wid this yeah that we run into that
has that throws us off because we're not used to it.
Wobbly kick on the punt, but it good when takes
a fearble. He's coming about to look at this thing
rolling inside the five, still going and gonna roll down
at the one yard line.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Are you kidding me? What a punt that time?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
By number thirty eight A bot to Stemple, the senior
punter f ee k talk about pinning the rams down.
It's gonna be first in ten Rockford of their own one.
After a huge punt there to flip the field for
East Cantwood.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
Well that's what they've needed from the special teams.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Stemple getting a good foot into that one kind of
the lower kick that scares off the return man for Rockford.
I think that was comings back there and that ball
just keeps on rolling. That's what the turf does sometimes,
is those kickers like to kick on turf, especially when
they get the roll.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
And now Rockford almost literally could not be any farther.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Away from the goal line than it is possible because
I know you said on the one, but I mean
the tail of the football is breathing on the goal line.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Tell you what, though, the Rockford defense came out to
start the second half, did the job they needed to do,
forced the East get with fun.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Now Rockford's got to get out of a hole.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Led by their senior quarterback Braydon Daniels, who's been pretty
good tonight. It s they motion hearing of the tight
end from left to right. They'll set up as an
extra block of they're tight double set with the one
receivers to the short side of the field for word
of by himself.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
And I think they took too long.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
I mean, so they had a two inch penalty and
so they'll have to move.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
They literally just kicked the ball back a little tiny bet.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
I mean, if you're going to commit a penalty on
the offense and it's out in the end, zone. This
is the time to do it. I mean literally, you
can't get any farther back there. I think that may
have been the shortest penalty on record.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Ryan carry the bigger back number thirty four. The junior
is in there in the end zone to the right
of Brydon Daniels here on first and yeah, ten and
six inches handing off No Daniels.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Oh did he get out of the end zone? Oh boy,
it was close. He skent. Would want a safety.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
He got hit right at the goal on and drop
fell forward to the one, but really no gain. Second
and ten coming up. Let's see what the Falcons defense
decides to do here. They got to be aggressive because,
as I say that, they've been burned over the top
a couple of times.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
I mean they technically got a game because you can't
divide zero by zero.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
So not much though. No, they got very little.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Oh high snap Daniels had a one hand it and
now he's trying to get over the left side, and
I think he just got out again Buck Geno. I
mean we're talking right to the shadow of the goal line. Yeah,
I mean he got out basically where they started to
play from and then got carried into the end zone, so.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
They gotta watch that snap though.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Great job by Daniels where it's athleticism to keep it
from going out on the back.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Of the end zone.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
I mean, you're right.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
But the other alternative is to just line up in
the tight eye and hope that you can get a
good enough blocking to get out of the end zone.
I mean, you're I mean none of these guys on
the offensive line, I mean all their shoes are in
the end zone.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Yeah, they are, just there is no room down there whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Here we go, crowd getting loud, especially be lost three
k under center I formation you call it buck gino
roll it to his right, Daniels out of the back
of the end zone, trying to throw for it complete.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
Did he keep his feet and bounds? He did?
Speaker 1 (40:54):
What a grab by Ike power and that should be
enough for a rams first down.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
What a strike by Brighton Dan Daniels.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Well, and that's been the third down relief valve for
Braden Daniels. Is jack shike power? Now, the first two
times it was deep down the field. This time Ike
Bower doubles back, takes the defensive back off of his coverage,
gets to the sideline and then Daniels buys just enough time, yeah,
(41:21):
rolling to his right to throw a strike to Ike
Bower and get them out of the shadow of their
own goal posts.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
They're picking on Dallas Thomas Moody the cornerback that side.
That junior has got tight coverage on Ike Power. Daniel's
not a pistol formation handoff.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
From right to left.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Not a lot of running room stack dump that time
was Carrie shortcane maybe a yard of the twelve. But
that's it, mister Gino. So second and nine coming up.
Clock continues to wind here in this fast moving third quarter.
But East Kentwood, if they can hold here, could get
some good field position.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Well, they were trying to get two points on the
last set of downs. But now you're right, if they
can just hold here, I mean you've got to get
off the field on that third down. And you're right,
they've been picking on Thomas Moody over there for what.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
To split wide left? They'll motion gross jet sweep coming nearside.
Now cuts back, found some running room cross the fifteen
to fifty running out to the seventeen yard line. Let's
see if they give him seven or six, it's gonna
be third. I think they'll give him six and four
coming up for Rockford.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
Nice job there by gross Jets supposed to go all
the way outside, Kent would kind of snuffed it out,
get good penetration on the play side, so he cuts
it up and makes a third and manageable.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Coming to the ballgame, they'll go two wide receivers each way,
one back in the back through the left of Daniels.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
On third and four.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
Takes a snap under some pressure, pocket breaks down, tucks
it throwing, runs and.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Does he have the first down?
Speaker 2 (42:46):
I think he's gonna be shorts yempt he will be at.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
The twenty yard line.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Daniels thought he got it, but no good job running
him down. I think to make the stop that was
Kenyon Battle, the junior linebacker on the outside.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
I think if Brayden headed to do over again, he
might have tried to extend the football in stretch for
the first time. Instead, he gets taken down, and you're right,
he thought he maybe had the yardage to gain, and
then he looked down and he's like, oh, never, I
should have put the ball And he even looked disgusted.
He's like, oh, I just kind of lost my bearing
there a little bit and they're gonna have to punt
(43:20):
the football away.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
Fourth and two back INSI on his own ten yard
line at the six nap is a good one oh
high kick, wobbly, not a good kick towards the Rockford sideline,
hits at the forty two of the rams Oh, takes
a favorable bounce, goes across the midfield stripe, still rolling
out of the turfy or at Carlson Munger Stateium, And boy,
it turned out better than it looked like it was
gonna be. As they say, they'll spot it dead at
(43:43):
the forty three yard line of East Kentwood. But the
Falcons do flip the field position in their favor. That punt,
by the way, Connor van Oss, the junior punter, got
under it a little bit, was a wobbly spiral, got
hung up in the But then like I said, probably
got about fifteen yards of the turf on the roll here.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
So when you pop the driver up, but it hits
the sprinkler head and gets some extra role. Ah was
it a bad miss a couple more yards down the fairway.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
So Kate Kaufin of this offense back out for the Falcons.
Our second half starting lineups brought to you by Sporting.
You you think that they can ac trust me and
make us look good every Friday night with our ninety
six to one the game gear play action.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
Coughing up the sideline.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Got a bit out throw, dive in attempt and just
couldn't haul it in. Needed to get a little bit
more air underneath it because he had a man with
a step at the thirty five and he was looking
the way of Stefan Jones.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
Jones had coverage beaten. But again, Coffin throws the ball
just a little bit early. He got to wait one
more step there, and you're right. If he puts maybe
a little bit more air under it, that can kind
of even that out.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
But Coffin, that's a good throw. It's a nice throw.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
You can see his arm potential. He can pay.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
He's got the potential. He's just got a find the timing.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Yep, dial it in, a little dial it in, like
you said.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
Then, the pressure that Rockford has brought it certainly is
accelerated the clock in his head a little bit.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Second down and ten two backs to the backfield. Coffin
fakes the handoff, goes left side, got some running room
still on his feet and tripped up and falls forward
cross the fifty to forty nine of the rams. It's
nice pick up there of seven.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
We'll call it. Third and three.
Speaker 1 (45:23):
Clock continues to wind buck GINO four fifteen and ticket
left to going to third game.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
We're gonna get to get home and watch the whole
fourth quarter of Iowa Rutgers like we all like we
all wanted to do.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
Hey, good news there. Now, see your Williams was back
in the game. He's gonna come out now. But just
to see him back out there and running, well, you
slot left to the short side of the field from the left,
hash one receiver right.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
Third and three handoff and crashing through.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
I think he's got the first down to the forty
six yard line.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
That's Phillips said. Here we go East Kentwood.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Get a little tempo here, getting a little momentum, and
I like what they're doing, mixing up the pass and
the run.
Speaker 4 (45:59):
Plisure.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Now the linebacker James Jones Junior, how big do.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
You feel this drive is right now? Can you kind
of feel it in the.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
Stadium coming in?
Speaker 3 (46:07):
Yeah, And like you said, not only the tempo, but
now putting James Jones Junior in the backfield in the
wishbone and.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
They go kauflin under center.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
We saw this one time earlier, first down in ten
Rockford tight at the Lana scrimmage, bringing seven men up
within a yard of the football handoff right side. He's
got too many blockers look out rolling inside man inside
the thirty five. Otherwise he'd still be going down inside
the thirty to the twenty eight ty Spencer and his
staff mixing things up.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
In that time.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
It was Jesse Phillips, and I think is oh Man brought.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Him down well. James Jones Junior, the lead blocker.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Very few people signing up for the job of stepping
in front of thats.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
But when double tight end stacked tight here wistbone formation,
you're right handoff right side. Phillips said, boy, I'd like
to follow him. You're right, I didn't notice that change
until you mentioned it. Bringing the noseguard that we've talked about.
I don't know his size as far as weight or height,
but I can just tell you it's like a bowling blow.
He reminds me of Craig Hayward number Ironhead coming out.
(47:08):
He's got that kind of stature and when you put
him as the lead blocker. That's devastating second and five.
He came on the move.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
Well, they go power formation a couple times in a row,
wishbone with a heavy set, and now they go back
to twelve personnel Mayhew tight to the left.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
How about the Ex's nose against Randy Vanderven's defense here
one receiver each way copping out of the pistol.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
That one's going nowhere.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Great job by the Rockford defensive front and there defensively
for the Rams to make them play Drew Ram on
that defensive line.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Also ninety three Blake Daniels.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Well, they tried to spread out a little bit and
then try to sneak a run past the defense. But
Rockford did a great job there of recognizing the play
and they get in there stop Netleman for the loss,
and now they'll bring up third and seven. But this
is probably in two downs territory if you can't Wood,
so you don't have to get it all here.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
Loss of two football is at the Rams twenty five
fourteen to seven, Rockford Overige Falcons on the movie here
under two minutes left to go third quarter. What a
ballgame here at Carlson Munger stadium. I'm on Edmunds in
motion left to right. They run to the left side,
making a man miss. The twenty's still on his feet
fighting down near the fifteen yard line, close to the
first marker. Once again, this is Davion Nettleman, the senior
(48:23):
running back, number fifteen, and he's got it first and
ten Falcons on the ground. This third quarter, by the way,
being brought to you by Kids' Food Basket, our official
nonprofit for the LMCU high school football Game of the
Week for the fourth season. Now doing touchdowns for kids,
nourish local kids to reach their full potential. That's what
it's all about with high school sports, Kids Food Basket
and LMCU.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
The Sir Williams a little bit gimpy. We've seen him
re enter the game at Nettleman and Phillips, the cast
of thousands in the backfield for the Falcons and done
the job.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
They have done a great job now keeping on the ground.
Kaufan hands off right side, hanging out of that football,
crashing inside the fifteen I'll spun down at about the
thirteen yard line. Luca Hernan, there it was on the
carried Nettleman. Cain of three second and seven tempo now
(49:14):
and they go back to the full house wishbone set
three backs to backfield, coffidenter, center, double tight end. Rockford
late trying to substitute, and here we go, hand off
left side, just following the woldby blockers, crashing down to
the five yard line. These Countwood fans love it to
their feet. It's gonna be first in goal. E k
just outside the Rockford five as we're down under thirty
(49:35):
nine seconds and tacking left to go on the.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
Third with the substituting or looking for volunteers to stay
in front of James Chones.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
I mean this is just a battering ram. How about
Mayhew Win there too.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
It's not like he's a small individual hand off left
side trying to crash towards the end zone that time
looking back because there was knowing in the hole it hit.
Was Jones Junior kind of encouraging to come on to
the four yard line on the carry.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Was Jesse Phillip. How about this too, Ty Spencer.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
Remember he's won four state championships in Detroit, Martin Luther King.
Maybe something that Rockford hadn't seen it all yet in
the first three games on film, here we go second
and goal from inside the four of Rockford under center
Kate Kaufin takes the snap hand off right side trying
to get to the outside, cuts him back in good
job by lucaheard of the Rams defense stopping him short
(50:25):
at the three just to gain of one. Nasser Williams
that time and A Hearne kind of slow coming up.
Another defensive lineman is down on the far sign for
Rockford away from the play. Now A Hearne looks like
he's struggling a little bit, isn't he with that foot
just kind of walking off.
Speaker 4 (50:43):
But I tell you what, we got a heavyweight fight partner.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Heading to the fourth quarter after three here at Kyleson
Munger Stadium in Rockford. Our score Rockford fourteen, East Kentwood
seven Falcons knocking on the door. We come back to
start the fourth after this on naughty six to one.
Speaker 4 (50:58):
The game.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
Well minutes left in this heavyweight battle of the ok
red bunks.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
You knows.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
We welcome everyone back to Kylelson Munger Stadium. What a
beautiful Friday night. Gear to week four with our LMCU
High School football Game of the Week. So now we've
switched sides and ends of the field. Heast Kent what
heading towards the south end zone trailing fourteen to seven,
and Buck, you know I'm gonna go to you with
the headset on here third in goal from the three.
Speaker 4 (51:28):
What do you like, boy?
Speaker 3 (51:29):
I kind of like if they can get a tight
end into the into the flat or into the open
area on a play action.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
It looks like Elijah Bondon is the tight end to
the left side, to the wide side.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
They're going with a heavy set though double tight ends.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
It's either I don't know how much James Jones has
handled the football, but the alternative with the B two C, Well,
if nobody likes trying to take on take him on.
Speaker 4 (51:49):
Blocking, surely they will like tackling him even less.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
Eleven men's docked in tight for the Rockford defense, and
now rock Ford gonna burn a time out.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
Andy Van got down there with impressive speed because either
A they were not lined up properly or B he
saw something that the Falcons had in their alignment.
Speaker 1 (52:13):
Well he was having a conversation with Mason Plane. Yeah,
so probably a more than B.
Speaker 3 (52:19):
But either way, they came out of the the third
quarter break, and remember, folks, Bob Sack and crew getting
ready to bring you plenty of scores. Wanted to do
this too. Segue into Bob Sack. He's going to be
doing Heidelberg versus Calvin on Saturday on WXSP in ninety
six point one.
Speaker 4 (52:39):
The game that'll be tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (52:42):
So the Knights at Knights on ninety six point one
the game. And then for Calvin College, I want to
get this message out to.
Speaker 4 (52:51):
You, Coach Mike Patruzma.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
With the late coach Mike Petruzma passing away tragically last year,
his son Josh has now taken over the ac H
hockey program at Calvin and they have started a golf event.
This will be at quil Ridge. It's October third at
two pm. Go to www dot coachp dot org for
more information. The first annual Mike patruz Mcgolf Classic to
(53:16):
benefit Calvin Hockey and Calvin University.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
All right, so here we go.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
After the time out, third and goal from the three
fourteen to seven rock for in front East Kentwood knocking
on the door.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
Try to tie it up or maybe take the lead.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Myers scoreboard show are scores and more coming up once
we're done here at Kyle Senmunger Stadium, coughing under center,
heavy set in the backfield, all three handoff right side,
trying to power their way in.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
I think it's going to be short down to the one.
Speaker 4 (53:41):
On the handoff. Jesse Phillips, Well.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
You've come this far. I mean you're going to go
for the touchdown here. There's no field goals now.
Speaker 1 (53:51):
It's fourth and goal gain of two on that carried
from the one.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
Actually they're stopping the clock. I didn't see him. There's
anybody either standing around his apologies. He didn't mean to
be callous.
Speaker 3 (54:07):
And that's definitely a cramp, which is if you want
to say good, that is good. But that means that
the lineman for East Kentwood, and that's Xavier Williams. The
right tackle means they're going to have to find a
new right tackle for this fourth.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Down, this critical fourth down and goal play.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Well, they obviously are shuffling somebody with a center because
confidence taking snaps.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
I think he's just.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
Well, yeah, he's actually he's taking snaps from now seventy
seven yep.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
So maybe they'll shiffle.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
So that's Isaiah Wilson, So maybe they're gonna shift Charles Nichols,
who is the traditional center number fifty five. I mean,
I'm not gonna sit here and critique coach Spencer, but
fourth and goal from the one in the one score
ball game.
Speaker 4 (54:56):
Is a tough time to get a new center, right.
But we'll see.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
I mean maybe maybe, maybe he's worked with him before
and we just haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 (55:05):
Let's do this while we have a moment, our wing
doozy fan of the game. Who's he gonna be. Let's
take caller number five back to our studios right now now, Joe,
Aaron and coleb Nia, one of them will be taking
your phone calls. We got Joe on the board because
John ilk is out tonight. So caller five to six
one six, four five, four thirty seven seventy six. That's
caller five right now. If you've won already this football season,
(55:28):
you're not eligible. Twenty five dollars gift card to our
wing doozy fan of the game. We appreciate always our
fans listening every Friday night across West Michigan. That's six,
one six, four, five, four thirty seven seventy six.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
Caller five call right now.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
We'll announce in our postgame show who the wing doozy
fan of the game is. And the good news is
it looks like it was a cramp. You were right,
fuck jail.
Speaker 3 (55:50):
Yeah, actually, as you apologize, it's fifty nine the left
tackle Chris Lovelady. So sorry to mister Xavier Williams family.
He's okay, but too he just had a cramp. He'll
have to come out for this play.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
But Isaiah Wilson did move over from left.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
Well, he's the center one. Now he's the and they're
gonna go in the shotgun.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
That was Kaufman out of the gun, Jesse Phillips to
his left, one run receiver and left his ed Mins
one runner saver to the right is Jones, fourth and
goal from the one. They'll motion Jones in hand off. No,
they're trying to push him in. Rockford stuffed him. He
didn't get in. He might have lost a half yard.
(56:29):
How about that. Luca Hearn came flying in and they
stopped Jesse Phillips stone cold for a loss.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
Rockford gets it on a turnover on downs. Well, the
exchange was not Chris now.
Speaker 3 (56:44):
That was because there was some penetration by Rockford's defense.
But as soon as he handed the ball off. I
mean there was just nothing there. I mean, great surge
by Rockford up front, there just wasn't any way to
get it momentum. I'm surprised they went with that after
winding up in the bushbone and having James Jones lead block.
(57:05):
But you're right, since they had to shift guys around
dude to love lady leading the game, leaving the game.
Never know exactly where their thought process was. But Rockford
just comes up Hughes the second time they've stopped East
cat On on downs inside the fifteenth.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
I remember he's kent what had him down here last
time and forced a punt. Daniels has to work out
of his own end zone. They're gonna try for over
the top again. Ike Bower looking for a call. Oh wow,
it comes out late. Ty Spencer can't believe it. He's
saying that's unketchable. We might have a conversation here because
Ike Bauer was working against They've been picking on all nights.
Speaker 3 (57:41):
Dallas, Thomas Moody. I mean, number one, we know that
they're in the rule book. It doesn't say anything about
being catchable. However, we've seen it. I mean, we've been
doing this for a long time Brett right, if it's
not even close. I typically the flag doesn't come out
now if you're gonna do something.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
I didn't see a.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Lot of contact, but I feel like it was all
in the That's what I'm saying. Field of play. It wasn't,
and the one official that was closer to it didn't
throw his flag. It came from way back. Yeah, they're
gonna call it though. Wow, I think interferits on the defense, right.
Speaker 3 (58:17):
And the thing is in high school is once there's
contact beyond the line of scrimmage, it doesn't mean. I mean,
Daniels could have thrown it to midfield for all week cared,
it still would.
Speaker 4 (58:26):
Have been contact after the fact.
Speaker 3 (58:29):
I think the problem was is that he got knocked
down so early in the route that the officials like, hey,
we don't know exactly where that would have ended up,
and he gets knocked down at the twenty yard line,
so we're gonna have to call it there.
Speaker 4 (58:41):
That's a huge penalty.
Speaker 1 (58:42):
Yeah, giving him breathing room out to the seventeen yard line. Now, handoff,
they'll keep it on the ground on first in ten
and they go with the bruising back there on the carry.
Speaker 4 (58:54):
Big number thirty four.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
We've seen him rotate in Ryan Carey tonight with Hayden Peoples.
The starter crosses the twenty out to the twenty two
yard line, they'll give him just shy of a five
yard game. Call it four second and six. Clock continues
to wine eleven zero six and ticking left to go
here in regulation fourteen to seven, Rockford rams with the football,
(59:16):
two wide receivers tight left signe. Daniels design run that way.
Pretty good job by the East Kentwood defense. Some extra
curriculars going as he crosses the twenty five to the
twenty six, So gaining five gonna set up third and short,
third and one for Rockford.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
Well, now, if you're Rockford only being up by one scorer,
you can't get too conservative. If you want to keep
moving the ball down the field and the third and one,
you stryinly have the chance to do that, but you
just got to keep the ball in your hands for
as long as possible.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
Daniels again design quarterback keeper left sign He's gonna pick
up the first down. That's all they want to do.
Acrossing the thirty out to the thirty two yard line.
I searched by the offensive front on that side, gain
him six first down.
Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
Ten.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Hey, rapid radio scoreboard update, and we'll check in with
Bob Sack as we go through this fourth quarter when
we can. How about this heck of a game Holland Christian.
Eric Grassman is out there reporting for US twenty eight
to twenty one Holland Christian over Northview Wildcats coming at three,
and oh, what a game we did.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
That game last year in the OK block.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
Was when Holland Christian was starting their unfortunate tails been
due to injury.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Oh boy, now pitch right side. They want to throw
it back, Luca Hearn to Daniels. Here comes east cut.
What defense Daniels makes the first man miss. Now when
he gets some positive yardage. They went back about ten
or fifteen yards to gain four yards, but they do
to the thirty five. Well, little trickery therefore, that was vandalione.
That was supposed to be a trick play. But then
James Jones ran right up the middle and nobody touched him,
(01:00:47):
so that kind of put the whole kablue on that one.
And then I think that you said that was was
that a hern? Or was that it was a hern?
Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
And he was like, I don't I don't know what's
gonna happen, but I don't want this in my hand anymore.
So he threw it back to the Annils and they
were able to pick up.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Four two wide receivers of the left.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
Now the motion man from left to right, that's gross
fake the head offf to him. Daniels runs underneath, cuts
back at the forty makes a man miss and he's
got a first down for the Rams. Grinding it out
here to the forty two yard line gate of seven.
Daniels now limping as he gets up.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
He got being pretty hard on the last play, and
now he ran the ball again.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
They'll give him Actually Ford practice at forty three. Boy,
he's under some major pain here. I think Daniel's gonna
go down. He is, he might have to call a
time out here.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
That is not good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
Took a shot to his right leg and he is
in some serious pain.
Speaker 4 (01:01:38):
The senior quarterback for Rockford.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Well, he tried mightily to keep it, keep it up,
but he just had to go down and get some attention.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
So an injury time out. Trainers are out of the
field will step aside as well. Nine oh seven left
to go on this one. Rockford fourteen Eastkentwood seven will
come back with more. As you're listening to the LFCU
High School Football Game of the Week live here on
ninety six to one. The game, Well, he has his
(01:02:07):
helmet off but gino. But Jay Daniel's good news for Rockford.
He is walking off in his own power. They're gonna
have to take a look though. He was holding that
right shin area. So now Rockford's gonna have to at
least go one play with their backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
It's thirteen Cason Whitford, no pres and Luca Hearn's gonna
play quarterback. Yeah there Whitford was taking snaps, but they're
gonna kind of wildcat it here.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Yeah, so Luca Hearn, who hasn't played much offense. We
saw him in there just a minute ago. High snap.
Now Luke just gonna call his armor. This is what
he likes to do, is just run it, but again
with a bad wheel. Just playing defense tonight. And he
crosses the forty five to the forty six yard line.
They love to grind it away with number twelve and
they're why they can.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
I mean, we got so we got the guy. We
had the starting quarterback go out with the apparent foot injury.
So let's bring in the guy who had a boot
on last week and see how that goes. I mean,
that's just kind of how it's going for Brent Cummings
right now. But they're still plugging along and just trying
to grind it out.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
Full house backfield with him to protect him to running
backs to the right, one to the left. Luca Herd
run up the middle, crosses into east, kept with territory
still on his feet. Tough customer, as Luca heard it.
Runs in the family inside the forty to thirty nine
move the chains first in ten Rockford trying to grind
this one out into the end zone. They lead by
just one score fourteen to seven as we approach eight
(01:03:28):
minutes left to go here. Congratulations by the way to Ryan,
Buttan Dyke of Grand Rapids going number five.
Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
He's our Wing Doozy fan of the game for week four.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Nice job, Bryan, thanks for listening to broadcast and you're
gonna enjoy best Wings in West Michigan maybe beyond when
you want to. The twenty five dollars gift con who
our friends at Wing Doozy. First down in ten heard
in there this time, two backs to his left, one
to his rights. It's kind of their formation of the
wishbone out of the pistol hand off left side and
he is hitting up ended as he crossed the thirty
(01:03:58):
five thrown down to the thirty two yard line. Big
number fifty was in there defensively for East Kentwood. That's
Damari Love Simmons, the junior defensive tackle on There was
no love loss there. This is just grind it out
physical football, isn't it. But you know, I mean two
heavyweights doing battle here well and Luca Hearn just the
warrior that he is coming in and like you said,
(01:04:20):
a bad wheel.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
And just running straight. I mean, this is power football.
This is single wing. They got guys back to their
fronational mouth football. I mean this is literally the old
single wing formation.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
Right Wyatt Colson in there, they're gonna lead block for
her and right side. Look at that offensive line. Nice
push out of the twenty five yard line. It's sort
of like what East Kentwood was doing to them when
they brought in the big fellow James Jones Studios complaining
theficial now because he's being cut at the legs.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Oh, that's exactly what we predicted coming into this game.
Cavee coffin a Division one commit quarterback and Braden Daniels
who was eleven to eleven last week, and we we
have a ground attack war from both teams.
Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
I can't see number eleven Daniels. He's on the table.
He's on the table, okay, so he's in the back there.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
So it looks like Luca Herne might have to finish
this thing at quarterback for Rockford seven oh two and
ticking left to go full house backfield, left side's just
wherever Luke wants to ron He finds a little crease,
that's all he needs inside the twenty power his way
down to the eighteen yard Like, you're right, this is
like watching old black and white yeabage.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
I mean, I'm waiting for Ronco and the Gersky to
run out there with a leather helmet.
Speaker 4 (01:05:31):
But here's the thing you have to appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
They have a package in place and the guys know
what to do right with this formation. Now Daniels comes
back in, good news. Number eleven is back in and
Luke's probably the happiest forum saying okay, I'll let you
run the football, though.
Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
I think I'd probably just keep going with that until
he's kind of what can prove they can stop it.
I mean, it looks like they're gonna keep doing the
same thing I was gonna say.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
I think Daniels will just be the guy running it now,
full house backfield around him out of the pistol formation.
It's like he's got three extra blockers right side and
just powers his way down to about the six yard line.
This kind of reminds me of the old school Jim
Harball Wolverines. How many times they run it roll against
Penn State just kind of iced that thing away.
Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Was it like thirty something A lot a lot? Okay,
what is the uh thought process?
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
And whether we'll see Rockford put the ball in the
air or not.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I mean, you don't really have to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
I Mean, the thing is, they've had great success through
the air, but they've also had starting disaster with two interceptions.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
And now you can just watch the game clock and
wind it down every time we're under six minutes left
to go.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
On this football.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
And here's the other thing. Now that you're in the
range of Hooker, you don't have to get a touchdown
you'd like one.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
There's a Herd again, Hearn back in there right side.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
I think they liked what they saw with his power
inside the five, and they whip him down at about
the two yard line, first in goal, Rockford five thirty
four left to go on this one?
Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
Just powerhouse football?
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
Is this fourth quarter being brought to you by Wing
Doozy and Chicken Wings and West Miscan multiple years?
Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
No, those fries so good?
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
How about for game day tomorrow, Monday Night football with
the Lions Wing Doozy the locations in Wyoming and Hudsonville
with a sports bar to serve you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
Well, I think they're gonna run it here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
I mean, if you're East Kentwood, you just have to
pack as many guys into the middle as possible and
try to hold contain on the edge.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
First and goal from the two, A Herd from just
inside the right hash two Backster's left wing is right
at a run, left side touchdown Luca Hearn. Wow, that
was just smash mouth football from front comings in Rockford.
As Rockford gets to score a Hearn from two yards
out and it's twenty to seven aut Rockford with the
extra point upcoming.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Well, I mean as you said smash mouth football, but
a twelve play drive after entering an East Kentwood thirteen
play drive that ended with no points and some of
the Falcon faithful are flying the coop after that Luca
Hearn touchdown because it's going to be a long road
(01:08:07):
to hoe.
Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Just make this deficit up.
Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Dawson hokert on to try the extra point drills it
right through the middle of plenty of leg and with
five oh four left to go on this one breathing
room now for the Rams of Rockford. They leaded twenty
one to seven over East Catwood. We'll come back with
more as you're listening live to this week four edition
of the LMCU High School Football Game of the Week,
(01:08:31):
exclusively here on ninety six to one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
The game.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Dropsack back in the downtown Grand Rapids. Ninety six won
the game studio, getting you ready for the Meyer High
Schools Scoreboard show coming up after this outstanding game up
at Rockford where the Rams are trying to hang on
leading twenty one to seven. Late in the fourth update
on a big game going on at the cat Grand Rapids.
Catholic Central scored and the waning couple of moments to
(01:09:23):
take a ten to seven lead over the East Grand
Rapids Pioneers have the ball, but they're moving into East
even to Catholic Central territory here. As we come down
the stretch, we'll keep you posting Brett.
Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
Thank Carlson Mungers Stadium in Rockford. It was we have
a penalty on the kid gooff by the Rams there
off sides by Rockford, so they'll redo it. We remind
you to stay with us for the Discount Door post
game show once we're done here, before we get you
into the Meyer Scoreboard Show. It's presented by Discount Door
family owned a local operative business.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):

Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
They do residential and commercial garage doors, as well as
any repairs and maintenance. Discount Door get a requote online
at Discount doorgyard dot com or by calling them at
six one six three six three fifty six ninety two
just down the road from Rockford here on.
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
West River Drive, right by LMCU Ballpark. So they'll set
it up again and will rekick.
Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
Yeah, it was offside, and I mean the kick was
going out of bounds anyway, So it was probably better
for Rockford that they called the off.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Side now from the thirty five line drive kick angling
towards the sideline. I don't want to go out of
bound and draw another penalty flag.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
I don't think that Rockford was necessarily at all interested
in kicking it to I'm on.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Edmunds, I'm gonna make him kick it again, right if
I'm ty Spencer. When you have a weapon, like I'm
on Mighty Edmunds, I mean, I mean this guy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Yeah, I mean take anything to the house, right, I
mean I'm making them. I mean, I'm daring them to
kick it unless well it's so it is what twenty
five yards from the spot of the kick, right.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Yeah, so they're gonna get it out of the forties.
He's gonna take it there first and ten from the forty.
Kind of surprised by.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
That, Well, I'm kind of surprised by that, simply because
it didn't look like they were any way interested, and
I would have tried to force them to do it.
But I guess he's thinking, well, being at the forties
not so bad, and we kind of need the ball
quickly to score us all.
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Take what I can get in the way of field position.
Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
Well, you know, Kate Company Company gonna air it out here.
Two wide receivers each way, one back in the backfield
first and ten from their own forty chilling by two scores,
now twenty one seven across the middle. Conference got his
mad muddy Edwards completed the fifty hangs on a little
bit behind him. I'm the stop for Rockford. That was
defensive back Charlie Thornton, the junior. Well that's what you
(01:11:46):
I mean, that's what you're seeing. If you're Jonathan Smith
from Michigan State. That's just a rope to Edmonds. First
down in tent handoff. They keep it on the ground
this time stacked up after a short gain. Who else
tell you what why? Colson has played a whale of
a game tonight Rockford defensively number eighty. He's been all
over the football field along with twelve Luca Hearn. That
(01:12:06):
time on this stop against dave Yon Nettleman, the running
back for just a gain of three to the forty
seven of Rockford. Second and seventy k trips to the
wide side of the field right, one wide receiver short
side left from the left, Hash takes the snap fires
crossed the middle. While that was a rope, but a
little bit behind Mayhew the intended receiver.
Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
And the other thing too, is across the middle of
the field, so Mayhew not really looking to extend out
and make himself vulnerable to a hit.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
I mean the pass was behind him and over.
Speaker 1 (01:12:36):
But I will tell you this though you've called it before, Bucks,
you know, started interrupted.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
But Mayhew's got to look for the football quicker. Yeah,
I mean he turns around and was it a great throat? No,
But I mean he didn't even get his arms up.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
But he's not even looking until he's like ten yards
out of the fields.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
Like you're an H backer tight end, you gotta look
right now. I mean you know what I mean. Yeah,
they're not coming. They're not waiting for you to get
forty yards down the field. No, you're not the deep
guy that they're gonna throw to. You're the little route
and curl route guy. Oh, beautiful catch to the inside
curl route. Speaking of that, on the money once again,
I'm on. Edmunds got a first down inside the rams
(01:13:11):
forty to the thirty nine clock continues to wind.
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
Two minute drill here for Kaufman at ek four.
Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
Oh nine and taking left to go down two scores
twenty one to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Short slot left, one receiver right.
Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
Kaufin takes the snapflush out of the pocket, rolling to
his left, now gonna cut it up. Makes the first
man missed on his feet. Look, god, he's got some
running room inside the twenty inside the fifteen ten five touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Wow, Cade Kaufin.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Thy nine yards when he ran about fifty to now
make it a one score game. He showed some wheels there,
number eight, the senior Cade Kaufman.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Well, the the book on Cade was clearly he has
a tremendous arm, But can he do the other things
that quarterbacks are asked to do in the modern game
of football, which is that which is run and do it?
Speaker 4 (01:14:03):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Boy, just a really nice cut, goes against the grain
after he was flushed from the pocket, and then just
kind of kicksteps in into the fifth gear and gets
to the pylon outracing a pretty speedy Rockford defense exactly Garcia.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Now crucial extra point, trying to make it a seven
point game, and he does. You know, he reminded me
there with the big strides and he's about the same
size Keith Nickel, remember back in the day, Keith, All
of a sudden he wouldn't look like he was running,
and then no one could catch him with those big strides.
We got a ball game again, folks. It's tightened up here.
With three forty eight left to go at Kylson Mungers Stadium,
Rockford twenty one East Kent with fourteen will take a
(01:14:41):
short time out and come back with moors. You're listening
to a Week four edition of the High School Football
Game of the Week presented by Lake Mischigan Credit Union.
You're on ninety six to one the game. If he's
(01:15:05):
Kent with faith on feet now, but you know twenty
one to fourteen is Jayden Garcia said to kick it away?
Still a lot of time on that clock. Three forty
eight he's Kent, what's got all three timeouts? He kicks
it deep and into the r and the end zone
on rams So Jade and Daniels in company.
Speaker 4 (01:15:21):
Now what does.
Speaker 1 (01:15:22):
Rockford doing If they show that formation again with a
hearn does these Kent would stacked the box even more.
They got to get a stop here and get the
football back Rockford with two timeouts remaining in the ballgame, Well.
Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
He's has three timeouts, so you can afford at least
here early in the series to sew out and try
to stop the rut, and that it doesn't mean to let
somebody get way behind you in the pass game, but
you can you can confidently.
Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
Stack the box in Rockford.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
If I'm them, I'm not going to do anything different
until they actually stop me. Right, So I think we're
probably we're gonna see a pretty similar situation to what
we saw before. And the Hearn's actually gonna come out
and take the stamps.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
So they're gonna have a Hearn back there at quarterback.
Ryan Carrey is back.
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
There with him, Nick Manner the linebacker, and Allion is
a blocking back, and all you have a time out.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
Rockford Wyatt Colson as well the linebacker, and now.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
It's all the defensive guys in the offensive backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
Jason Vandalon wants to burn a time out. That's the
second one for Rockford. So three forty eight left to go,
we'll keep it right here. It's East kent Wood trailing
Rockford by seven, twenty one to fourteen. I guess we'll
take a time out real quick here. We'll come back
with more. You're listening to the LMCU High School football
(01:16:47):
Game of the Week. Here on ninety six to one
the game, forty eight left to go. Looka Hearn and
after the time out at quarterback, they go full Munch
formation up the middle of Hern plowing his way to
the twenty five. Whipped down hard there on the tackle
Ficese Kentwood Malachi Daily the senior linebacker on the week side,
(01:17:12):
but still effective gain of five keeps the clock rolling.
When is East Kent were going to design to burn
timeouts here?
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
I think you probably see if you can get one
stop right, and then you gotta start using the timeouts.
And that's I think the right approach by coach Spencer.
Why use the timeouts if you feel that you can
get a stop way.
Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
They had someone run on out. They were shorter guy.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
It's growing on, but no one came out.
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Well and Hearn trying to go with the hard count
and everybody's like, okay, we already know what you're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Seven down lineman Ficese Kentwood, three more linebackers in the box.
They got one safety left side of Hearn. Better job
by East Kentwood that time got maybe two to the
twenty seven. So now it's third down. This is what
you're talking about buck Gino.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
Yeah, and now if you get the stop here, then
you call the time out.
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
If you're Jason Vandalon, do you take a chance and
run one of those blocking backfield guys out in the
flats and.
Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
Try to I think if if Braydon Dan's was in,
I would say yes. But with Luca Hearn being in.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Well, keep an eye hearing it. He's the tight end
to the near side too. They got him in there.
Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
I just think with Luca Hearn not having done that
all game, it'd be a real risk.
Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
How big is this one third and three? Hearn gonna
run it right side and he didn't get there? Oh
extra effort? Are they gonna give it to him? Have
they blown it dead or not? Well, they might go
they've marked it short, they've marked it short. Ty Spencer
not happy. He's saying, wait a minute, the pile was
stopped there? Was it blown dead or not? Because then
they search ford. He is gonna be short. But how
(01:18:44):
much is he gonna be sit marked it short by
a yard? Okay, so it's at the twenty nine. He
needs to get across the thirty. So fourth down and
one boy, what do you do here? If you're Rockford,
are they gonna try and to get it?
Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
Well, they've had diminishing returns every snap this this drive,
they've had five, then two and then one and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
Ish there.
Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
East Kentwood, by the way, took that time.
Speaker 4 (01:19:14):
Yeah, they Well that's kind of what I thought they
would do. Right.
Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
The question is does Rockford decide that they want to
end the game here, because if they get the first down,
even though East Kentwood can stop the clock, Rockford can
take it down to under a minute before they have
to kick the football away.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Boy, I'm selling everybody out here because if they throw
it over the top and score, who cares.
Speaker 3 (01:19:37):
Right, I'm gonna have eleven guys and it's gonna be
like a punt blot.
Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
That's all I'm saying. I'm going all out here.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
I'm just stuffing as many guys listen to this crowd
into the defensive line as possible. Just any gap that
you can find as the defender, just fill it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
If you left early here it is ball game fourth
and one, Rockford going forth from their own twenty nine
up seven full house backfield heard the quarterback left side
got the first town in more breaks the tackle and
out across the forty to the forty one yard line.
That's just basically bullyball right there by Rockford first and
ten moved the chains.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Well it was hearn He wanted to go in between
the tackles. That looked like to start, but then he
was able to knife through on the edge, almost broke
it and almost broke you're right, almost broke it.
Speaker 4 (01:20:25):
In the deep safety. I think that was I forget what.
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
I think that was Donovan Jones that ended up bringing
him down, or maybe that was Major Barnes.
Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
I think that made the tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Either way, it was the last guy in line and
Rockford now can just wind the clock down, even though
he's Kent one does have the two time out clocks
rolling won.
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
Thirty six and ticking to Hern Now gotta hand it off,
and that's Colson to the forty one.
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
That's about it.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
Now, let's see if they burn a time into here
they do. Quos continued to roll though, and now Ty
Spencer saying, wait a minute, the clock rolling here, they'll
get it. I had it at one twenty six or
one twenty seven. It's down at one twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
Well, nobody got the This is the second time that
the nearest high official has called the time out for
East Kentwood and every nobody's paying attention to it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
I feel bad. Well, I'm looking at this clock. It's
at one eleven. They finally stopped it. It's got to
be somewhere around twenty six twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (01:21:27):
They're gonna have to go and do some correction to it.
Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
I can I can't hear it because the speakers are
facing away from us. So but the Kent would faithful
or at least that are remaining or applauding in approving fashion.
Speaker 4 (01:21:41):
So what a football game?
Speaker 1 (01:21:42):
Buck gino twenty one to fourteen rocket for trying to
ice it out here?
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
They do stick. They put it back to one twenty six.
Close enough. Yeah, that's what I had.
Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
I had twenty six or twenty seven when I looked up,
and then ty Spencer started saying, hey, we got to
stop the clock here. So that's their second time out.
East Kent would second down in ten can stop it
one more time?
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Well, I mean, so they can stop it one more
time and then they'll run another play and that's about
forty five seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
So I got okay.
Speaker 3 (01:22:14):
So I did a lot of math in college and
didn't do very good. I feel like they're gonna have
about twenty seconds left, twenty five seconds left when they
have to kick the football if everything goes according to playing.
Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
Luca Hearn's still in their high snap, but he hands
out of the pistol formation and Luke only gets yard.
Speaker 4 (01:22:32):
Maybe two to the forty three.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
So third down and long and again Ty Spencer pointing
to the clock saying, hey, we're calling time out. She
knew we wanted to call it time out as soon
as he was whistled down Right now it showed one
to eighteen, So we'll sort that out. Discount Door postgame
show coming up. In that buck Gino will select a
night's Uptown Chepskate offensive Player of the Game, brought to
you by Uptown chief Skate with locations in Grandville and Kentwood.

Speaker 4 (01:23:15):
Reporters, we got some games.
Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
They are going down to the wire by the way,
buck Gino, I got this update from Eric grassmed Rapid
Radios scoreboard. Nor Few tied it up with four thirty
four left and then took the lead with under two
minutes ago, and it's now gone final.
Speaker 4 (01:23:31):
Norfew wins it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
In that Okay Black showdown over Holland Christian by a
final of thirty five to twenty eight. Wow, what a game,
Ryan Asknock and the Wildcats four and oh Holland Christian.
I'm telling you they got a nice program rolling there
for the Maroons. Yeah, I mean I liked him before
it was cool last year.
Speaker 3 (01:23:51):
Dave ad Berger, tremendous man and a pastor. That's an
odd combination, right, a pastor in a football coach, two
very ed odds occupations. But a tremendous man and a
great coach.
Speaker 4 (01:24:04):
Got him rolling.
Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
They whistle it in Luca Hearn looking backstays and at quarterback.
One twenty one left to go is what they settle
on for the game.
Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
Clock snap to a.
Speaker 1 (01:24:11):
Hern left side, lowers the shoulder and gonna be stopped
at around the forty four whistled dead, won thirteen and
ticking left to go. So third down and nine, let's
see what the game clock he is compared to the
Blake clock, and bucket's gonna be a little less than
(01:24:32):
thirty seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
You were right on partner about twenty eight twenty seven.
It's all that calculus too, I did in college.
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
So the game clock under a minute.
Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
So if you're Rockford here, you let it wind all
the way down, you call a timeout, and then you
get the punk team on there. I mean, if it
was fourth and two, I could see them just going
for it and trying that there. But in the middle
of the field, you just take it all the way
down and you let your punter get out.
Speaker 1 (01:24:56):

Part of ours will be cut short tonight because we
sounded like Elvin and Theodora.
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
Yes, we had the first quarter the Chipmunks play by
play there in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
We were just kind of having fun with it. I mean, hey,
it is youth night.
Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
I mean they didn't score any touchdowns, so I mean
we didn't really miss a whole lot, that's true. No,
I mean here now, I'm kind of surprised simply because
typically Edmunds is the returner, but instead.
Speaker 4 (01:26:07):
They have sent back Donovan Jones. Donovan Jones, which is well.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
Edmonds was getting worked out for a cramp we saw
on the trainer's table earlier. I'm not saying that that
is affecting him.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Before he's right down there by coach Spencer. So they
probably had a.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
Oh, they're thinking that they're not gonna punt it here. Okay,
I'm bringing everybody up. Yeah, for WORDA is gonna punt
it away from the short punt formation, nice chop angles
it down inside the twenty and that's gonna roll out
of bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
Yeah, I mean like the fourteen yard line, and.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
With how Drew kicked the football, I'm not really sure
you could have put anybody back there and not been
able to do anything with the football. So it would
have been a traditional punt high in the air, then
I would have questioned it. But knowing that now it's
it makes a lot more sense. And you're right, they
didn't think that the Rockford is going to punt.
Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
And so I've heard of the two minutes drill, but
now we have the twenty second.
Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
Well they've yeah, I mean in Kate Coffin, I mean
he's got all he's got all that in the bag
and more to get the ball down field.
Speaker 4 (01:27:11):
But you got to get somebody open. Edmund's in the
slot here.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
You gotta watch too single coverage on the or sorry,
double coverage in the fire side which means single coverage
for one of these guys over here.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Well, they got two backs to backfield, one on each.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
Son of Coffin. You're on first down ten. Interesting, Now
they'll motion to man out. Coffin in the pocket, steps
up ever he can run, throws on the run incomplete,
knocked away. Nice job defensively as knocking that one away
was Jack Benner working against Fella Owen van der Vee.
Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
Well, and that one there, you want to try to
get to the outside. Yeah, they'll stop the clock if
he does get the first down. And Andrew being just
really the only one that was coach to open and
Kaufin didn't have anybody working to the outside. And you're
right kind of curious that they had split back there.
They did motion one of them out. I mean, yeah,
less than twenty seconds ago. You got to get as
(01:28:03):
many guys out in the pattern as possible.
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
Fifteen seconds left, twenty one to fourteen Rockford, he's kent
Wood the football from on thirteen yard line under Durest flushed.
Speaker 4 (01:28:12):
Out of the pocket. Now here it comes there.
Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
What he does he takes off and he's running twenty
five thirty cuts back and out to the thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:28:20):
Four yard line gets down, they gotta take a time out.
Oh they don't have a timeout.
Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
That's gonna do it? Did they stop? Oh they stopped
the clock for the first down. That's what they're saying. Yeah,
now the ball gets up.
Speaker 3 (01:28:36):
Weren't ready, They weren't set as soon as soon as
the whistle goes for the ready for play, they would
have needed to snap the football.
Speaker 1 (01:28:44):
And that's Kate confident and we didn't know you were ready.
So the time run on East Kentwood.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
Well, I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:28:53):
The end of the day, you can sit there and
you can say, well, we could have done. I mean
you had two drive then inside Brackford's fifteen with no points.
I mean getting down to this point does stink. Get
the last playoff, but it's it's just one of those
things where the clock has to start.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
And that's Kaufin mad at himself, you know what, because
he ranned back to the middle of field.
Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
He just didn't go down.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
Well that's why I said, yeah, gotta get down, and
that's why I was.
Speaker 4 (01:29:25):
Watching the mediar diage.
Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
You just need to get out to the first down
so they can stop the clock.
Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
Well, that says something a lot about his composures. I
was kind of watching him. You don't kids get frustrated, right,
and he's pointing to himself with every teammate that's coming
over in high five, and I mean, and that's what
exactly it was. But Gino is saying, hey, I got
to get down quicker so that we have time right down.
Speaker 3 (01:29:43):
If you slide with three seconds to go, then you've
got it whether you and then you can get and
set up something else. But boy, just a tremendous effort
by both teams today. I mean we've picked four pretty
good games so far, and not to jit ourselves for
a bumming of, but just a really gritty win by
a Rockford team that was twenty four minutes away for
(01:30:07):
Astra dun dunst Is.
Speaker 4 (01:30:11):
They've come back in him, won the two.
Speaker 3 (01:30:16):
And against this Kentwood team who everybody thought this year
was going to be special and they still are. I mean,
that's a very good football team. They just lost this game.
They're not yet and they'll be heard later. You're going
to be a year for the Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:30:33):
So the Rooms of Rocket Woman improved at three in
one with a twenty one to fourteen win over East
Kentwood for the Falcons, just their first loss this year,
as they dropped to three to one in twenty twenty five.
We've got a lot coming your way if you're hopping
into your car, maybe heading home from a game. We've
got the Mayer score go with back reporters. But first
(01:30:55):
we people will come back here to Kylesonmongers Stadium with
a discount door postgame show brought to you our friends
at Discount Door right here on your twenty six one
the game. Welcome back to Coleson Munger Stadium here in Rockford.
(01:31:19):
We got the Myers scoreboards show DECKX with do our
discount door posting show all in one segment, brought to
you our friends at Discount Door.
Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
We'll hand out our awards. We'll recap the scoring in
this one.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
What a finish Rockford hangs on in this okay red
show down to Beads Kent With twenty fifteen the final
of the Rams improved to three and one. But Gina,
let's take everyone through the scoring recap of this one.
And the most important thing too, five touchdowns on the
board in our game. That's another three hundred and fifty
dollars donation to kids food basket from Lake Michigan.
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Credit pretty boring first quarter with no score. I shouldn't
say boring, but scoring wise, there's nothing there. Second quarter,
Rockford opens the score nineteen. I peeped seven to nothing.
Rams East Kent would ties it up with under minutes
ago in the first half, Cad Kaufman the first of
two touchdown runs for him, this one from four yards out.
Speaker 4 (01:32:12):
It was seven to seven. After that, we thought we might.
Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
Get to the locker room the tie game, but Rockford
said not so fast that Big Braiden Daniels passed to
Jack Seikebauer set up a pass for Rayden Daniels to
Jack Cummings with only twelve seconds to go in the second,
but wrapped up fourteen to seven at the break. Rockford
then a twelve play, six minute and second drive covering
(01:32:36):
ninety eight yards. The last two yards of that cover
other than Luke Hearn, who was in a boot earlier
that people didn't even know if he was going to play. Well,
not only did he play, he played on both sides
of the football and had the clinching score that made
the score twenty one to seven in favor of Rockford.
Then East Kent Wood goes down very quickly after that,
(01:32:57):
Cad Coffin with a thirty nine yard touchdown on a
run to cut the score to twenty one to fourteen.
But that's where it would end, as East finally ran
out of time at their own thirty five yard line,
trying to make one last gas attempt at tying this
football game. A great game by both teams. Rockford on
top twenty one to fourteen here at Carlson Munger Stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
You said it earlier, but you know, just minutes ago,
two quality football teams fun to watch in this Oka
Red race that has Hudsonville in it, has Grandville in
it has an improved West Ottawa team in it. We
saw Jennison and liked what we saw, even though I
know East Kentwood kind of took it to them last
week in their Okay Red Conference opener. But twenty one
to fourteen the final, Rockford wins it. Your final scoring

Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
I just want to mention this really quick.
Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
People cannot see this, but I can't remember the last
time the two teams got together after the game and met.
And then the whole Rockford student section and more is
down there and East Kentwood players are mingling and talking.
Speaker 4 (01:34:15):
That's what high school sports is all about, Brett.
Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
That's after the game, hard fought battle, everybody talking and
congratulating each other in the middle.
Speaker 4 (01:34:23):
I mean, I've never seen that before.
Speaker 1 (01:34:25):
I've seen they all shake hands, but I have never
seen an opposing team just wade into the student section
and have the camaraderie that they just did.
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
It was like an NFL game. You didn't see that though.
Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
They had a little kind of prayer or ceremony there
with one of the East Kentwood coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:34:40):
They called everybody over. Great to see.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
I love it, especially in the times we're living in
right now. People just need to love on one another,
and high school sports or sports in general, brings people together,
brings communities together, and certainly you're right, a great show
of affectionaire between the Rockford and East Kentwood communities. Well
that leads us into our uptown cheapskate offensive player of
the game and Buck g you know, I'll let you
have the honors tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:35:03):
Well, we had a lot of candidates, as we normally do,
but a guy that wasn't even supposed to play did
not start, and he certainly didn't start on offense, but
he ended up getting there because the starting quarterback got
dinged up and they're like, well, we need somebody to
get us down the field, and that somebody was Luca Hearn,
(01:35:24):
and he scored the game clinching touchdown on Rockford's second
to last drive of the football game. That was the
one that went twelve plays, six minutes and thirty two seconds.
It was legitimately smash mouthed football, single wing, seven guys
in the line, four backs in the backfield and just
snap it to Luke and see what happens. Luca Hearn,
(01:35:46):
our uptown cheapskate offensive player of the game. We don't
have final stats, but the game clinching touchdown when he
was in a boot on Tuesday, is pretty worthy of
getting that award.
Speaker 1 (01:35:58):
Tonight senior didn't want to miss this big game at
home certainly, and he normally is a two way guy
for Rockford. He was tonight and they needed him on
both sides to get the victory. So congratulations to lukekag
going a twenty five dollars gift. Kind of do some
shopping on us with Uptown Chiefskate. You get monthly deals
as well.
Speaker 4 (01:36:13):
Just go to.
Speaker 1 (01:36:14):
Uptown cheapskate dot com. Montel Construction Defensive Player of the Game.
I'm gonna go with one of his teammates. We called
his number a lot tonight and he also was in
at the end as one of the blockers in the
offensive backfield. Haven't seen that before for Rockford. Number eight
Wyat Colson, the junior linebacker. Tonight's Montel Construction Defensive Player
of the Game brought to you by my home team,
Montel Construction. Congratulations to him and finally our J and
(01:36:37):
H Family Stores highlight. I don't know if this has
ever happened booked, you know, maybe you can remember, but
we got to go to a defensive plan. I'm not
talking about interception I'm not talking about fumble recovery. How
about that Rockford defense standing tall Tonight Kaufman out of
the gun, Jesse Phillips to his left, one run receiver
and left his Edmonds one run receiver to the right.
(01:36:59):
Is fourth and goal from the one. They'll motion Jones
in hand off. No, they're trying to push him in.
Rockford stuffed him. He didn't get in. He might have
lost a half yard.
Speaker 4 (01:37:11):
How about that.
Speaker 1 (01:37:12):
Lucah Hearn came flying in and they stopped Jesse Phillips
stone cold for a loss. Rockford gets it on a turnover,
un downs a goal line stand, They get it back,
they keep his count went out of the end zone.
Randy vanderven and that defense dials it up again for
a Rockford.
Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
Victory twenty one to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (01:37:32):
