Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good Friday night, everyone, and welcome live to Cornerstone University's
mull Arena where this evening action is tipped off for
the twenty twenty four twenty five High School Hoops Holiday Tournament,
and we've got a good one coming up for the
finale to start our season with the LMCU high School
Basketball Game of the Week schedule. It's on the girls
side as the Rams of Rockford, led by Miss Basketball
(00:24):
candidate finally a senior, four years on varsity and a
y pitch taking on the Ford Oh Cougars of Ground Rapids,
Catholic Central and one of their future college stars in
Grace McKinney. Hello everyone, Happy holidays, and welcome to another
season of high school basketball coverage live here on ninety
six to one the game for both the girls and
boys as we travel across West Michigan this winter, trying
(00:45):
to bring you some of the best and biggest matchups
in the area, presented by our friends at Lake Michigan
Credit Union. Well. Joining me along court side tonight is
Jason Hutton and we are excited. Jay. Happy holidays to
you and your family. It's always special to kick off
the high school basketball season, which is already underway. Some
boys games played before Thanksgiving weekend. I don't remember that
(01:08):
happening because it was so late and we're wrapping up
the high school football finals and here we go diving
headfirst into high school basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, Byron Center boys played and beat Covenant Christian before
their football team played in the state champions games. Of course,
know Isaac Lee, and you know we'll get into that
as the months go on. But this Center boys basketball
team is really good now that they're kind of whole
with all their pieces playing together. But yeah, nothing says
Christmas like the holiday tournament here at Cornerstone. It's just
(01:37):
been a staple here in West Michigan for a very
long time. And excited to be here and already seeing
a bunch of good games and excited for Rockford, Cakelly Central.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
And I know in our conversation throughout our podcast tonight,
we're going to talk about the invite that happened at
Calvin University last Saturday. You saw a lot of those games,
all boys action, some great ratchups there like Rockford and
Norview South Christian doing battle and how about Unity Christians
till unbeaten? The depth of the boys field, how good
the girls field is and we've got four good teams
that'll flip back over on Monday afternoon and play each other.
(02:09):
And that is the game we've got going on right now.
West Catholic against East Grand Rapids Falcons, trying to put
this one away. They lead at fifty one to twenty eight.
We just under four minutes left to go. And then
of course our marquee matchup tonight four and zero Grand
Rapids Catholic Central under new head coach Nicole Fellows taking
on Brad Wilson's Rams of Rockford are just two years
ago winning the state championship and in the last three
(02:31):
years all they've done is end their season at the
Breslent Center as part of the Final four Division One.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, I think we all kind of knew what we
were going to get with the Rams in the program
that Brad Wilson has built three straight trips to East
Lansing and Oi pitch back for her fourth year on varsity.
Ciena Wolf not back yet, but expected back soon. I mean,
this is a really good team. It's another Division one
state title contender. Any pitch is a legitimate miss Basketball
(02:56):
candidate going to Butler. I wasn't ensure what we were
going to get with Greenopit's Catholic Central with Nicole Fellows
taking over. You know, they had done really well in
Brad van Timmern's three seasons. But Emily van Timern of
course no longer here, even though she's a senior in
high school. This season, she's back to Jenison and an
early enrolled in Mina of Ohio. But Nicole Fellows and
her coaching staff, they've done a really nice job with
(03:16):
a really talented group.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
They're four and oh.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
They've played some good teams and I think we've got
a good game tonight.
Speaker 1 (03:21):

great year last year watching college hoops and how that

it on display with all the college talent that's going

(06:33):
In the J and H Family Stores pregame shows, we're
counting down to tip off tonight, Rockford Girls taking on
Catholic Central Cougar's coming in at four and Oh Rockford
at three and one as part of the Cornerstone Holiday Tournaments.
And in that we like to have a conversation with
one of the coaches in the Montel Construction coaches corner
so joining us right now. It is seventh year at
the Helm as the head coach Rockford girls' basketball program.
(06:54):
Brat Wilson coach first and foremost. Happy holidays and off
to a great start again. I know you loved it.
Challenge your club and you're down one with Santa Wolf
coming back I know next month, but a three and
one start for you guys. What have you learned about
this year's edition of the Rams Bread.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
Yeah, happy happy holidays to you two and thinking about
Cornerstone University. Probably the best time of the year. Kids
are off and we can focus on basketball and family time.
It's really awesome. We've re challenged ourselves quite a bit already.
We had a game with the West Michigan Hoops Summit
over at Aquinas College earlier this year against Wayne Memorial,
who's a top five team, and we're able to edge
(07:30):
them out at the end of the game. And then
just last weekend we played at the Best of Michigan
Tournament down in Belleville against and our father Gabriel Rashard.
They are probably the best team in the state for
Division two and unfortunately we lost that one in the
end of the game there, but bounced back against Caledonia. Yeah,
we got Catholic Central and East Grand Rapids here in Cornerstone,
(07:52):
and then later on some really tough opponents. I think
we play eight of the top top fifteen teams in
the state. We're definitely loaded with competition and brand.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Talking about what you just mentioned with all the different
holiday tournaments that are going on or opportunities to play
on the weekends, that's something the MHSA has kind of
opened up the schedule a little bit as far as
number of games, and I've seen top boys teams from
West Michigan and top girls teams really take advantage of this.
It really is helpful for you as far as getting
your team ready but also preparing them so they're not
(08:24):
in awe when it comes to the state tournament to
make a run, right, Absolutely.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
And that's why we do it. You know, it's it's
a chance to play against teams from the east side
of the state in some cases, or some of the
better teams in these invitationals from from all over the
state of Michigan and sometimes even beyond. But there's so
many things that go into the Breslin Center where you
know it's out of your comfort zone in some In
some cases, so playing at Cornerstone and playing at Aquinas
(08:49):
and you know, playing on Saturdays, it really helps our team,
you know, get used to some of those challenges.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
One of the things you've done in taking over this
program is to developed some high end talent. Obviously they
have gone on to the next level. I know everyone's
always excited about that, as well as the success you've
had as a team winning the state title two years
ago in Division one. But you know you listen to
the names A Lissa why Pitch, Grace Lyons, Elena Anderson Eller,
when Sandy d Kaiper. I mean, I could go on
and on that program that you now have plugged in
(09:20):
and players playing at a young age if they're ready
for the varsity competition. How has that set you up
now to have kind of layers because you've got a
very experienced team again this year.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
Yeah, you know, it's having a sound youth program is
just so vital and it's you know, obviously my first
time around at Beldi and I was a varsity coach
there for four years and put my heart and soul
into that program, but really didn't put as much time
as I should have in the youth, and so when
I came to Rockford, I coach boys for a year,
and when I had the opportunity to coach the varsity
(09:53):
team for the girl on the girls side, you know,
I promised myself I was going to go all in
and do it right. And so we started the rock
program and had a few other additions to our youth stuff,
and it's really starting to pay dividends. And as you said,
you mentioned quite a few of the names. We've just
been had a run of very talented young ladies who
(10:14):
have been committed and have had goals and are playing
at the next level. And so we've been we've been
really blessed with that, and certainly our our roster this
year has a number of those kids that have put
in just an amazing amount of time and effort into
improving their own game and helping our program win. And
they all have aspirations of playing in college. So it's
(10:37):
a really, really good place to be right now.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Rockford Rams girls head basketball coach Brad Wilson joined us
in the Montel Construction Coaches Corner. It's brought to you
by Montel Construction. My home team can be yours to
help you with your next exterior project in twenty twenty five.
Find out more at Montelconstruction dot com. And before we
talk about this edition, the Rams and your matchup with
Catholic Central, quickly, Brad, what a year it was for
(10:59):
just when's basketball in general, and as you know, that
feeds down to high school basketball in the lower levels.
A Caitlin Clark, you know, Iowa splashing on the scene,
the WNBA and the talent now coming in his rookies.
Right after that season finished up, they go into this season,
so people are watching basketball year round. I'm enjoying this game.
And I heard Jay billis a commentator on a men's
(11:21):
basketball game for college in ESPN, talk about who He said,
the women have it right, the men need to change,
and he was talking about twenty minute halves compared to
the four to ten minute quarters, as far as fouls
not being a foul fest, the flow of the game,
and I couldn't agree more. I have really enjoyed covering
girls high school basketball, as you know, but I even
go to Michigan State games watching women's games on TV
(11:43):
because they're more covered. It's really a fun game to
watch and the flow, the beauty of the game has
to have you excited along with the girls to play, Oh,
no question.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
And I actually get told that all the time, about
how much our community will come out and watch the games,
and how much they enjoy the team work, how hard
they play, how athletic they are, the fundamentals.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
I was.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
I was actually talking with my assistant coach, Chenny Whyfitch
about this just the other day. She was an All
American in college and just how much the game has
changed since she played at Michigan Tech. It's it's really
really fun. And you know, the women in the state
of Michigan, particularly West Michigan, the level of play has
just been you know through the roof. We've had Miss
(12:29):
Basketball here several times in the last few years over
here in West Michigan. And yeah, I love I love coaching,
I love watching and I think you're you hit it
right on the head there.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Well, and let's start with this year's edition and a
y Pitch now a senior, four year varsity player, the
leader on this team, no doubt about a Miss Basketball
candidate herself this year at a to Butler University. What
have you seen from the maturation of her and now
in a senior leadership role for this bunch of Rams.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
Yeah, we always try to get our seniors to just
be the best version of themselves and you know, make
others around them better and lead on and off the
court and really set the tone at practice every day.
And you know, Anna is all of that and then
some you know, obviously the skill is there. You know,
every year of her high school career, she's made it
to the bresl and already a state champion, and we're
(13:21):
trying to figure out, hey, how do we how do
we get how do we how do we take your
game and to another level? And she's really worked on
some of her pull up mid range stuff. She's finishing
better around the basket. And but what I'm really impressed
about her is, you know, yeah, she's a Miss Basketball candidate,
but at the end of the day, she's a winner
and she wants to win games. And if she attacks
(13:42):
the rim and somebody helps, you better believe it. She's
she's going to make the extra pass. And I guess
that's why she's our assistant record holder here at Rockford.
But you know, what probably impresses me the most is
that she's not as worried about her own accolades, that
she's just a competitor and you know the statistics, so
to speak for himself.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Let's talk about this junior class and three talented players. One,
I know you're excited to get back next month. But
Sienna Wolf out with the acl happened at the end
of the year last year, before the tournament run. And
then Kate Higgins, who didn't play basketball with you guys
a freshman year, she just came on to the scene.
And then Jordan Mattier, who can really fill it up
a three point specialist. Talk about that group's next step.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
Yeah, so we'll have Sienna Wolf back very soon. She's
been working really hard to get back out on the court,
and so we're excited about, you know, getting her back
in the lineup. And I know she's really itching to
get out and be able to play again at such
a devastating injury. And she's such a great kid and
awesome family and obviously really talented. So I'm looking forward
to getting Ciena back on the court. Kate Higgins, you
(14:45):
mentioned one of the toughest kids I've ever coached in
just kind of born to rebound, and she set the
record last year for single season for rebounding at Rockford
last year, and she's really evolved the rest of her
game and attacking, shooting threes, being able to spread the floor,
and then really just slowing down and getting better fundamentally.
(15:09):
But she's somebody who, you know, We'll have a game
and I'll talk to college coaches afterwards who come to
watch and they're all like, who's number four? Oh, my gosh,
number four. And you know, Kate is really opening a
lot of eyes around the state of Michigan, and rightfully so.
Jordan Mattier. My goodness, she can shoot as well as
as anybody I've coached, and that says something. We've been
(15:30):
so lucky with shooters. You know, we just Grace Lions
is over at Ferris now, but as a senior last
year was you know, a forty five percent three point shooter,
one of the best in the in the history of
the NHSA. But Jordan in practice is putting up those
same type of numbers and you're starting to see it,
you know, out on the court and translate the games.
(15:51):
I think she's a ninety percent free throw shooter as well.
So when you have that kind of you know, shooters
on the perimeter allows Anna to attack and maybe they're
not as much help. And one to add maybe to
that list as well as a freshman Addison Whititch. He's
scoring twelve points a game for US right now and
probably one of the better freshmen in the state. So
(16:12):
we've got a lot of talent. And the best part
is they play together. You know, they share the ball
and they look to get the best shot for the team,
and they play hard on defense, and so that makes
my life a lot easier for sure.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
And lastly, Brad taking a look at the Cougars, they
come inted four to no new head coach and Nicole Fellows,
and what do you see from g RCC similar to
maybe what you saw last year and years previous, or
what is different?
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I know they're a very deep team and they've got
college talent as well.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Yeah, so I've always had a ton of respect for
Catholic Central and they've always been a really tough team
on the girls' side for sure, and obviously the boys
as well. But you know, Nichole's done a really good job.
I've been I've been watching film the last couple of
days for preparation for Friday, and you know the things
(17:01):
that you look for. Do they play hard? Well yeah,
I mean she's got you know, her product that she
puts out on the court is something to be definitely
be proud of. They play very very physical, uh you
know on the line up the line, very very aggressive.
And then are they deep? You know, and the answer
to that is yes, you know, they check that box too.
They can go seven, eight, nine deep. All of them
(17:24):
come in and they all play hard, they play together,
and so we're going to have our hands full for sure.
She's doing a great.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Job, Brad. Looking forward to it. Best to luck against
the Cougars and the rest of the season. We'll definitely
catch you guys down the line.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Hey, thank you Mary, Christmas and go.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Rams power look right, turn it in turn to get
to the in zone. Touchdown, Bulldyes on the corner. The

All right, thanks to Brad Wilson, or Rockford girls head
basketball coach, joined us in the Montel Construction and Coaches
Corner Here on the JDH Fambly Stores pregame show, we're
about four minutes away from the starting lineups. An opening
tap Rockford coming in at three and one, their lone
loss last Saturday to the defending state champions Division two,
and they're good again. Ann Arbort Gabriel Rashard fifty five
(20:12):
forty three wins over haslet Wayne Memorial in Caledonia and
Catholic Central coming in our new head coach, Nicole Fellows
in their first year at four to ZHO. She was
the top assistant to Brad Van Timman last year. Of course,
long time assistant for Crystal Sick at grant APIs Christian
and that leads us into our conversation tonight breaking it
down for us our vand Alain Homer from mc keys
(20:32):
to the contest. Here's Jason Nutt.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Wow, it's gonna take care of the basketball. I mean,
that's primary key number one for Rockford, it's primary key
number one for Catholic Central. Because these teams are pretty
similar in terms of what they want to do. They
want to pressure the opponent, they want to turn the
opponent over. But Cougars are right now averaging fifteen steals
a game, fourteen point eight almost fifteen a game. They're
trying to pressure you turn the basketball over lydia into
(20:56):
easy baskets, and of course Rockford's going to play ninety
four feet. That's what we saw Monday when they beat Caledonia.
I mean, their pressure just overwhelmed the Fighting Scott's. That
game got on a hand early. Now the Fighting Scots
did come back make it a little bit of a
more respectable final score, but that game was not close
in the first half. So keys for both teams are
going to be take care of the basketball and then
(21:16):
you on the other side, you want to force the
turnovers because that's what they both want to do. And
I just think, you know, playing in a college venue,
you've got bleachers behind the basket, so the ability to
adjust to the atmosphere and shoot the ball pretty well
is going to be the keys.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Of this game. And I think when a team likes
to pressure you, that plays right into the hands of
Rockford because of the ball handlers they have. Now you
mentioned Sianna Wolf not back yet. They're open to get
her back maybe after the holiday break in January, coming
back from that tough ACL injury at the end of
last year in the regular season, didn't play on the
state tournament run, but they got back to the President
(21:49):
Center without her. But I look at Anna wy Pitch.
She is so good at handling the pressure. She has
the ball a lot of times in her hands, and
if she doesn't, yes, there's another y Pitch coming up
through the system in freshman Addison ye Pitch, another great
guard goes two of the assists leaders for this team.
So you know they'll try to handle the pressure for
Brad Wilson and the Rams, and they do a very
good job, but they turn it into what I love
(22:09):
is their aggressive play of making an opportunity to try
to get to the basket and get easy buckets.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Yeah, they're young, but they've had the basketball in their
hands a lot most of their lives. I mean Alyssa,
their oldest sister, a starter at Michigan Tech now obviously
was a great player on Rockford state championship team a
couple of years ago. So they're the people that Rockford
wants to have the ball in their hands. I mean,
you got Jordan Mattier, you got Kate Higgins, you got
Aubrey Mortors spots. So they've got players that can handle
(22:34):
the basketball. And this is why Rockford's elite of the elite.
That's why they're in a state title contender again, because
it's a positionless basketball. I mean, they can all play
basically every position on the floor.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
And obviously a lot of the players on the roster
for the Rockford Rams getting college looks, maybe not even
in this sports, in other sports, but fantastic athleticism in talent.
Now the other side, they're gonna be challenged tonight. Lauren
Meerman already committed to Aquinas College, one of the leading
scorers for Cathic Central, a senior. And Grace mcginney gonna
play at Hillsdale College.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yeah, and Hayley Durlin, who's only a junior, who may
have a college future as well. So they've got Callic
Central's got Paul Handlers two. And this is the ultimate test,
right because you're gonna face. This is a good pressures
you're gonna face. We just saw West Catholic against eas
Grund Rapids, and we know the Falcons can pressure you,
but in my opinion, Rockford will pressure you more than anybody.
You're gonna face. This is a great test for Catholic
Central kind of see where they're at there. Four and oh,
they beat some really good teams. They beat Kenwell Hills,
(23:25):
they beat Sear Springs, to beat Byron Center, but they
haven't yet played a team like Rockford because there aren't
many teams around like Rockford. So this will be a
great challenge for the coovers.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Cathic Central'll get West Catholic on a Monday afternoon as well.
The other part of flipping these four teams, West Catholic
winning just before this game over East Grand Rapids tonight
fifty six to twenty eight. There's the keys to the
contest with the one and only Jas Nutting. Brought to

about their Traver City location. Let's take a look at
your supporting you starting lineups tonight. We'll start with the
Rams of Rockford the head coach Brad Wilson. Now it
is seventh season. It starts the Miss Basketball candidate senior guard,
(24:16):
four year varsity player number two and a y pitching
Jay will have her career stats. It could be a
historic night for her. Three more categories she can hold
school records. She already does for assist in a career
for any Rockford girls basketball player, we'll touch on that
throughout our broadcast. Their post player forward slash center is
Kate Higgins, a junior number four all state rugby player,
(24:39):
and she is a rebounding machine. Then you've got Audrey Muttersbaum,
the junior number five most likely in there for Siena
Wolf who is still loud. Jordan Mattier has moved into
the starting role. She came off the bench last year,
as Jay mentioned, very good when she sets her feet
three point specialists and only a junior. And then Addison
y Pitch, the freshman geting to start tonight opposite her
(25:00):
sister at the other guard spot. For the Rams they're in,
they're visiting black uniforms with the white numbers and white
tram along with the orange. And then for Catholic Central
the Cougars and the home white with the royal blue
and the black trim. Lauren Meherman is one guard, a
senior number two than Hayley Durlin, the junior getting to
(25:21):
start fifty one percent shooter from the field, averaging eleven
point three points per game one of the lead scores
for the Cougars. Number three, Jay ed Chandler is a
rebounding machine. It'll be fun to watch her against Kate
Higgins tonight. Six point three rebounds per game, also eleven
points per game. And then you've got Grace McKinney and
Peyton Fellows. The sophomore a new company to the varsity,
(25:41):
getting to start tonight for her mom Nicole Fellows. Opening
tap one by Rockford moving left to right in your
radio dial. Out front with the basketball Wi pitch that's
Addison down low the older sister Anna. They swing a
extra pass materier to Kate Higgins. Really worked on her
outside game which will make her that much tougher to God.
As Catholic Central starts out man to man, Addison, why
pitch strong across the lane? Want to finish by the
(26:03):
pressmow of the left hand.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Yeah, impressive. You don't see many seniors that can go
to their offhand like that. The ninth grader with her
left hand bucket with the left hand pressure defense with
Kevick central too, but Addison able to get the first deuse.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Love this about rock for two little one three to
one half court trapped to open the game and a
wide pitch out front with her size gets this deal
back to the way. Anna to the rack no on
the up and under, but was hit across the shoulders.
She went up and the Catholic central player who followed her,
I think kinda took that arm in the gut. She's
trying to help herself up and slow to get up
(26:35):
that time is Jaya Chandler.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Well, this is Rockford's pressure one three to one. They'll
do man press, I'll do it two. They'll mix it up.
And that's what makes them tough. The're really good at
all of it. That led to an easy transition opportunity
for Anna y pitch he drops the follow Good news
is Chandler looks like she's okay.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
And this is one of the numbers we're gonna watch tonight.
Made free throws and she's trying to set the career
school mark for that knocks down the first.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Now, so this one, if she hits it, will set
that record.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
She has a chance to add three career marks to
already the assist mark, so that would be four career records.
And obviously if she doesn't do it tonight, it could
happen Monday Night against East Grand.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Rapids and still probably twenty or more games left to
play in her career to make those records even harder
to attain.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Going to Butler University next year. Very good free throw
shooter knocks down the second here comes to full court pressure,
little two to two one Higgins on the backside. Cathic
Central throws up in the middle, extra pass down low.
Nice job on the backside putting it up and in
that time with Peyton Fellows, the big sophomore for the Cougars.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yeah, excellent court fission and a great delivery from Hayley
dirlin there and an excellent job running the floor. An
easy bucket for the Cougars. That's what you have to do.
Attack that Rockford pressure and they did it perfectly there.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I have a feeling this is gonna be a full
one tonight. Partner is Addison y pitch swinging it down
low on the block to older sister Anna cutting through.
They're kind of positionless with Rockerd because there's Kate Higgins.
They're post player drive with a dribble, pulls up and
short the jumper that time off the whim left side rebound.
Catholic Central ooh, almost to travel there dragging the pivot
(28:07):
foot that time was Ella Picarazzi.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Well, that's what makes it tough to defend to. You
talk about positionless, and so Rockford Grace McKinney able to
defend Higgins well that time on the dribble drive and
they get to stop.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Switching out front. Rockford now deep three on the way,
knocking it down from the right side. That's Haley Derlin,
the junior. Good start for Catholic Central. They lead it
five to four.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Darlin can really shoot it. She's fearless. That's what you
love about Haley Darlin. Hasn't met a challenge. She's not
willing to take on head first.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
And a wide pitch with the answer off a high
screen from Kate Higgins to her rights. Seven to five.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Here we go, speaking of fearless, nobody less, nobody less,
fear than any pitch.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Now stepping on the sideline on the far side, Grace
McKinney when she got on the right wing, didn't realize
her foot stepping backward, steps out of bounds, gives it
back to Rockford again. It's that constant pressure you talk about,
whether it's in the half quarter or full court. They're
just annoying pest rock For defensively man the man pressure
defense by the Cougars. They swing at the corner, Kate
(29:07):
Higgins right side, going to fire the three. No off
the back heel rebound. Rock For though follow up and
in knocking it down that time was Audrey Mutterspaw Brad
Wilson had nothing but great things to say about her
and just her effort and energy she brings to the team.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yeah, great job by Audrey. Fellows did a good job.
Excuse me, uh yeah, Fellows did a good job of
trying to box out. It's a long rebound in Myterspa
was able to go get it.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
I think Arozi had trouble getting that one and corralling
the pass a little high at the free throw line.
Ball was loose and then his bodies hit the deck.
They're gonna get Catholic Central with the foul and that's
gonna be against Grace McKinney the senior. Her first five
point twenty four left to go opening quarter, her up
and down we go. Rock For leads at nine to
five over Catholic Central. Full court pressure being shown here
(29:53):
by the Cougars. You don't see that too often because
of the ball handling skills of rock for to all
five positions.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
But that's what Catholic Central does. And you gotta play
the way you play and they want to pressure you,
and that's what they're gonna.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Domter Spaw brings it up at the top of the key,
Lisa for Higgins, she's really worked on a three point game.
Nice bake that time, goes around to defender, can't finish
at the ram, miss the layup and a rebounder reach
and foul by Higgins. Frustration file that time after the miss,
trying to get the rebound.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Well, Kate Higgins dribble, dry beater defender, But a nice
job by Peyton Fellas with help defense and a good
job on the boards that time from Elli Piccarassi. They
they get to call.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
How about the athleticism Kate Higgins still already getting some
D two looks for basketball. She's an old state rugby player,
so she's gonna have a decision to make at that
next level. Picarassie down low, good position, nice catch, can't finish,
rolls off the back of the ram, off rebound, butterspall
while lightly up in transition.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
I like what Cavick Central's doing. They're throwing over the
top there and they're getting the ball inside. That'll work
if they can keep it up throughout the game.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
They reset Brad Wilson. You hear him screaming to our left,
calling to play from the sidelines. Why pitch drially down
left side, kicks it out now over to Materier way
off the mark. Follow up in good though and knocking
it down that time was Addison. Why pitch the freshman?
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Well Graham's Callock Central has got to get a body
on the defender when the shots go up, Rockford crashing
the offensive glass and taking advantage early on.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Look at Catholic Central trying to throw over the top
Addison wy pitch knocks it away. Good deflection by the freshman,
kind of sucking her into that one. Mutter's ball off ahead,
leaves it back out for why pitch for three no
off the heel rebound Kate Higgins.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Another offensive board. Cougar's got to get a body on
a defender.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Kick it right side, why pitch? That's Addison leaving it
short and a wy pitch though, flying through with a
rebound and off the window of the follow and that's
gonna force the Grand Raffens Catholic Central time out.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yeah, six second chance points in a row. Remember it
was five to four Cougars and now it's a nine
to zero run with six second chance points. I'm sure
she's gonna talk about finding your man getting a body.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Out thirty second time out. We'll keep it right here.
Thirteen to five Rockford, right at the halfway point of
the opening quarter. Four minutes left to go here and
just getting underway with our coverage for the Cornerstone University
High School Hops Holiday Tournament. We'll be back here Monday night.
Buck Gino will be in the chair where Jason Hutton sits,
and of course we're going to rotate our color analyst
(32:12):
this year. We want to say a salute in halfy
holidays to Drew Knitzel work so many years with me
and his family. They are growing up and Drew's gonna
do some coaching with his son this winter and also
just play a little mister dad. I know he's a
big fan though. We hope to see him out at
some gyms that we taking his son out, Drake. But
I want to say hello to the nice so families
and I'm glad that Jason and buckin. We're even gonna
(32:34):
have Tom Kendrick working a game for us coming up
January second.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
It's a lot of fun. Glad to be here and
excited for a fun year hoops.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
It's a lot of fun for the football season. After
the time out, kick out right side, just off the
front of the iron. No good by McKinney, but a
good rebound, staying with it. Peyton Fellows, a sophomore. Fellows
has it in the left corner. Here comes to double
team trap by Rockford. One through one half court set,
skip past by the Cougars. Nice crossover, dribble, kick out
in the corner, shut off, pick a Razzi nowhere to go,
(33:03):
good defense and she's gonna be called for it. Was
it a traveler time out?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
It's they gave the time out. They gave the time
out to callock central.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
She didn't call it time out. That's so Nicole said,
I was gonna say, he said he thought there was
a time out. If there wasn't a time out, of
the Cole said, I didn't call it time out.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Then why is it Rockford?
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Because it was a travel I think they were saying
that the timeout was going to come before the travel
because she certainly traveled over there MA tear forcing this.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
So if if the whistle came before the travel, then
you can't travel after the whistle.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Well, let's see.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
But why they're gonna give the ball to Rockford but
I don't understand why.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
And the officials talking over, he's saying that the other
official had travel when he was having time out. I
see it with what you're saying, but okay, play on.
I definitely think the call was right, but I understand
what you're saying. If the timeout comes first, how can
you have the travel?
Speaker 2 (34:09):
I agree, I thought you traveled as well, but you
can't travel after the whistle?
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Blow right, Addison, why pitch with a triple drive at
the right wing? No look at Rockford attacking the glass
and a nice follow up and in by death Ray
Donnelly who just checked in and all that stoppage to
add two to the board for Rockford.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
They continue to crash the offensive glass right now, Rockford's
best offensive play is a missed shot. That's four straight
trips with second chance points.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Derlin now passing the middle. Nice job putting it up
and in I tell you, Lu Picarazzi in the middle
is a threat. He's got some length that gets a
big bucket there to stop the bleeding for Capitol.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
And that's what you have to do against his own.
You gotta get the ball in the middle of it.
Kelec Central's done a pretty nice job of it. They
haven't always finished right now. They need to stop because
they can't get a defensive rebound and.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
A y pitch coming off a nice screen that time
from Donnelly, No, the ball is loose, and then stepping
on the inline that time with Addison why pitch trying
to get the offense the rebound. We have some wholesale
substitutions coming in by the way our starting laps and
I brought to you by supporting you. You think it,
they can inake it. They have what you need to
look at your best. Check out their gear an inventory
online at Sporting LETTERU dot com and they are now
(35:13):
down in Whaling with their new locations. Two thirty three
left to go. Opening quarter girls edition of the LMCU
High School Basketball Game of the Week. Catholic Central and
Grand Refords and Rockford. I should say Rams lead it
by eights. Coopers hears the basketball.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Jay Chandler just checked back in like to see hear's
you in the shot. She's their leading scorer but hasn't
been involved yet. Of course you got shaken up a
little bit on the defensive end earlier.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Meerman now passed in the middle. And there's just what
you said as the doctor ordered to j A. Chandler.
Nice job, God at the free throw line, fake this
shot there, didn't dribble drive around to get an easier bucket.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, And if you're Rockford defensive, you gotta adjust to
that because you're continuously allowing the Cougars to get the
ball in the middle of your zone.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Maybe Chandler matched up with a freshman at Addison Ye
Pinch gave her too much room, knocks it down for
three from the left wing.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Of course, it doesn't matter if you if you're gonna
score every time down and that's what Rockford's been able
to do. So certainly they want to play better at defense.
But if you're gonna score at this clip, you're gonna
be in a good spot.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
What a pace in this first quarter on now trying
to dump it down low Nighte step in steal by
my tear. She'll bring it up herself across the timeline
down the right side, right in fornt of the Catholic
Central badge back out to Addawi pitching now to Addison.
They'll reset between the circles. Brad Wilson calling out the
box two set gets into a tear right wing two
man game with Ye Pitch now dribble drive across the lane,
(36:28):
kick opposite triple no good on the attempt by the
other freshman. Kendall Buyer's making her first appearance rebound Cathic
Central eighteen to nine Rockford and now dribbling off her
foot out of bounds. Was Haley Derlin. So to go
back to the Rams, so the minute ten left to
go Kate Higgins back in checking out is Desiree Dodley
(36:49):
and now for Catholic Central in for the first time tonight,
Lily Engstrom the junior number thirty. Meanwhile, Motorspall will come
back for Rockford in for a teer.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
You know, we talk about these freshmen that are out
here for Rockford. Obviously Addison Wye Pitch the second leading
scorer for the Rams. Obviously the family lineage she is,
she does not look like a freshman. I mean she's
not almost as tall as her sister Ante.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
I was just gonna make that comment myself. Also win
as download they go to. Higgins muscled up over Chandler
on the right block, and that's what she can give
you as a main part of her game. She's gotten
much better offensively from even a year ago.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Well, she's displayed already tonight her ability to dribble drive,
which is what Rockford wants to do. But posting her
upright there also really affected.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Maria app by the way in the lineup as well.
For Catholic Central to that last stoppage, Addison y pitch
right wing, dribbling left side across the lane, trying to
kick it out, ball deflected by Chandler. Kiggins has it
final thirty seconds a quarter, nice strong move, can't finish
with the Euro step now Chandler tied up with moterspaw
and possession arrow gonna favorite Catholic Central. So opening quarter
(37:52):
being brought to you by a straight line fence the
fencing company Grand Rapids with a personal touch, offering both
residential and commercial fencing projects called today for your free
estate at six one, six or four three twenty five
fifty visit straight line fences dot com against the fresher,
they lose it. Unable to handle it that time was
the senior McKinney Motter spawned the kickout to y pitch
(38:12):
no and a why pitch though on the other side,
the senior knocks down the three.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Three more second chance points. Once again, the Cougar's unable
to clear the defensive rebound, and that's double digit second
chance points for the Rams. And we haven't even finished
the first quarter yet.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
If you're just tune it in and it sounds like
there's wy pitches all over the court, there are Addison
and Hannah both in the lineup for Rockford. Triple try
before the buzz are no good by Lauren Meerman. And
that's the way the opening quarter ends. How about us
start for Brad Wilson's Rockford Rams twenty three to nine.
They leave it over unbeaten Cougars. We'll come back to
second quarter action from Mularita here on the campus of
(38:47):
Quarterstone University after this on ninety six to one the game.

eye on obviously the college football playoff Notre Dame hosting Indiana.
Joe have an update on that, plus Red Wings and
Action Griffins and Action at van Ane Arena. Those are
on our other stations, Talk twelve thirty AM and would Radio, respectively.
(39:49):
So busy night.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
There's nothing better than Friday nd West Michigan. I mean,
especially in the winter, so much going on. I mean,
obviously Friday nights in the faller are number one, but boy,
Friday nights in the winter, especially around the holidays, oh
a lot to do.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Tony and East, the First State Bulldogs want to say
congrats to them playing for a national championship tomorrow that
we'll have right here on ninety six to one. The
game starting at one o'clock against familiar foone in Valdosta State.
Third go around, each one is one to one. We'll
see what happens tomorrow again. One o'clock. Pre game two
o'clock kick off, Rockford starts to secon go to the
basketball and now handcheck going to be called against Peyton Fellows,
(40:23):
the sophomore tough one on to drive that time guardian
moterspaw Catholic central stand of that man and man pressure defense.
Now she'll come out, Fellows, and in for her will
come number three. That's Hayley Dirlin back in to the
ball game as now down the lane, beautiful execution in
(40:46):
the inbounds play uneath her own basket of cutting in
wide open Kate Higgins, and she was filed as she
went up.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
They just ran four hour a. You have an inbounder underneath,
you have four out and then Higgins just cut towards
the basket and I was able to get a step there.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Peyton fellows along with Grace McKinney in that lineup. Now
pick a Razzi comes in twenty four to nine. Rockford
rams three to one. Coming in impressive the other night
against Caledonia on Tuesday night and the victory at home
second one. No good off the heel rebound playing by
Grand raffids Catholic. Central's angstrong now here comes to pressure.
(41:22):
It helps. She went over him back that time. Didn't
realize where the line was against the pressure again an
a white pitch at the top of that with their
long arms to really bother you.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
That's the thing a Rockford players all about the same
size and all very quick, and their ability to trap
makes it tough for an opponent. They count Central was
throwing over it early. That was sometimes effective, sometimes not.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Butter spotty impounds right near the timeline, throw us in
the back to fly pitch. Good challenge that time by McKinney.
That's a physical game, yet his two good players going
at it right there. Higgins now baking the three, goes
around her defender too strong, trying to put it up
off the window. Good defense, set time. I think it
was Pickarazzie who came over to help.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Hey, love this atmosphere. Who's the best crowd of the
four games of the day here too, and everybody's into it.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
Pick a Razzie at the free throw line, good catching
traffic cut off by mother's ball defensive specialists for the Rams.
He showed it there now back out top deep three. Oh,
and she knocks it down and a foul. I mean
that was well but yond the arc that time for
Haley Durling.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Yeah, we have the college three point line, so that
was well behind the three point College street point line. Now,
wait a minute, was then the file was away from
the ball. I was gonna say, bucket counts, but.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
They shouldn't have then Durlin at the line. Yeah, I
was gonna say that's what Brad Wilson is say. I say,
wait a minute, it's not an and one because the
file was down low on why pitch?
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Yeah, so calex Central actually a chance yeah to get
five or maybe.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Six on this rights because they get the ball underneath.
It's not a four point and one.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
So if if Cougar score again, maybe Rockford we've been
okay with their shooting.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Exactly, shouldn't have argued it right? Well, let's see they
throw it out top. The Fellows kicks right side to McKinny.
She just stares at why pitch.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Berri's the trip, Wow, six point trip and lookout now
it single did your game again?
Speaker 1 (43:14):
Back to back threes, twenty four to fifteen, Rockford by nine.
What a swing of events with the Cougars there.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
Well, that's the one way to hint a Rockfords press.
Just have your tallest player bury.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
A triple Higgins working against Piccarazzie kicks out mateer can't
knock that three ball down from the right wing, battle
for the rebound, and McKinney's got it head up, wanting
to push, but deflected by wy pitch. She is so good,
she's like a defensive backpack there, just reads the player
coming up with the basketball where she's gonna go with
it to get the deflection. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
I love the relentlessness in the in the just the
overall motion of this Catholic central team. You know, down
twenty three to nine. You know they're fighting, they are
not giving up.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
Well, they're just like their coach, Nicole Fellows. She's a fighter,
very good coach. Long time with Crystal Zick over at
Grant Rapids Christian and we mentioned last year assistant to
Brad van Timmer. They were very successful and now taking
over this Cougar's program doing a heck of a job.
And Brad Wilson, if you missed it in the pre
game coaches corner conversation, gave her a lot of credit
with the way he loves the way this Catholic Central
(44:16):
team play. Is going to be a good match for them.
Unable to knock down the triple in the right corner,
but had a good look. Was McKinney long car him
out to rock Ford? Here comes wy Pitch across the timeline.
Wants to take it herself against McKinney. No open is pumped.
Nice job by Anna to draw the contact. Wasn't the
active shooting, so she'll get a pair.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
How do you defend this rock Ford team? Right? I
mean it's gonna be pretty hard to contain Anna y
pitch on the bounce, So if you help, you're gonna
leave somebody open and they can all fill it up.
I mean, I would prefer to help there and make
them make a three rather than letting why Pitch go
to the line because she's not gonna miss.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
So I remember two years ago when she is a sophomore,
as she misses the first but they really went to
that spread in the state championship game and we're successful
in just kind of having an I'm to take it
to the basket and decide whether she want to dish
off of the help game or get an an one
a lot of times.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Yeah, she had twenty or forty in that win over
West Bloomfield. What a game.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
That was. Second free throw on the way in money,
the all time free throw made leader career wise for
Rockford girls basketball. And she did it tonight earlier in
this one twenty five to fifteen to leave us ten.
You ask Anna though she'd give all those back. She
just wants to win here tonight. Keep it rolling for Rockford. Now,
(45:31):
a step in steel on the deflection back the other way, Addison,
why Pitch lays it up? And in how good is
that with Anna and Addison at the top of that draft?
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Yeah, and Calex Central throwing the ball away from the
hoop that leads to the easy bucket. Even sometimes when
they would throw it towards noop and get it stolen,
at least it's not gonna lead to that easy two
like that, and if you convert it, you get a
good look.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
Yeah. Now showing a two to three matchup extended zone
all across the half court in shotwood. Can't pick up
your dribble Meerman itself pick a Rozzie work at the baseline.
Now stepan steel, try to get it back out anticipated
by Annay pitch up ahead, here's matteir good look at
a three. That's a deep three from behind the college
line off the mark. She's yet to get going tonight.
(46:12):
And now Addison Ye pitch had the rebound but got
it stripped. Three on two. Nice break for Catholic Central.
Add one, I think they're gonna get Anna wy pitch
after releasing at that time was Durlin and this will
be a true three point play and one nice finish
to the left hand by Durlin.
Speaker 13 (46:28):
Well.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
An excellent job running that break by Lauren Meerman. She's
the team leader in assess. She showed why their court
vision excellent delivery to Durlin. Of course, Lauren Meerman headed
off to Quinas to play basketball next season, so an
excellent job by the senior.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
Before the free throw, Brad Wilson wants a full time out,
so we'll step us on as well. Five point fifteen
left to go first half. It's Rockford twenty seven brand
appens Catholic Central seventeen. You're listening to the MC high
school basketball Game of the Week live from Cornerstone University
here on ninety six to one. The game place to
(47:15):
go in to West Michigan State local and nationally award
winning Wing Doozy. Wing Doozey knows when you want chicken wings,
you want the meat. That's why they're fresh and never frozen.
They're huge buffalo wings coming traditional or boneless, slathering their

of your event with their combos, meal, deals, sides, and more.
(47:37):
Visit Wingdoozy dot com or stop by one of their
two locations in Wyoming or Hudsonville, where West Michigan goes
for wings the free iHeartRadio app. Isn't that replicated? Jays Nutting,
welcome you back court side at Cornerstone University. After the
(48:00):
time out, free throw coming here for Hayley Dirlin trying
to convert the old fashioned three point play after making
the layup filed by wy Pitch and she knocks down
the free throw, makes it a nine point game again.
Twenty seven eighteen. It's still for five minutes left to
go first half.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
And now we're going to see the Cougars come with
some zone here. Try to mix it up. Boy, They're
already having a trouble rebounding. Now you're getting zone. It
makes it even more difficult.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Kate Higgins flashing at the right elbow, kicks opposite the
matereer extra pass in the corner, cut off that time,
nowhere to go with Desiray Donnelly just checked in during
the last time out. Lauren Meerman now digging out the steal,
but threw it away trying not to travel that time.
Higgins goes baseline, extended the elbow, no call. Nice cut
by Donneley, tried to kick it out, deflected it. Now
(48:44):
that shot block by Picarazzi Brad Wilson thought there's a
lot of contact. Throw ahead though, and Cathic Central throws
it away.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
Now the Cougars aren't backing down. They're trying to run.
It's not always working, but they're doing what they came
here to do.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
Moter spat out taking it to the racks. She's fouled.
Good chance lunch that time and having to step in
with Durlin picking up the block.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
And a good job that time by Rockford after they
get to steal. They pushed the tempo. They were kind
of struggling a little bit. Two possessions against his catch
central defense. This way you beat him down court. You
don't let Calt Central set up in his own They
get for the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
I love the matchup we're seeing coaching wise, great job
with their personnel. Is too strong on the first free throw,
caroms out for butterspas. Second one ups coming four point
thirty elevet to go first half, stay with us for
the whole Jepson Physical Therapy half time show. You mentioned
Joe Eric back there with scores and more in the studio.
Second one's good, so she splits the pair and here
(49:36):
comes to two three extended half court trapped for Rockford
with Addison y pitch and butterspaw as an a y
pitch out of the game. Throw over the top down level.
She got a good look, but it just rolled off
the front.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Of the rim.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
No good bye, Drlin rebound cleared by the Rams. Here's
Kate Higgins down the right side. No one picked her up,
good looking at three and sheep berries and that's the
part of her game that she's added this year.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Wow, she can do it all. And that's Alex Center.
Got a little confused that time getting back into their
zone and they had an open spot. Higgins found it,
buried it. She can really do everything on the court.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
You'd write about Meriman attacking. She's very patient, comfortable on
top of that pressure. Now on the skip past Kate
Higgins step in steel, Kate leading the break, dribbles down low,
kick out, good look at uson why pitch for three
to oh too strong loose for the rebound off of
Peyton Fellows who hit the deck trying to corral that.
(50:29):
Wanted to go back to.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
Rockford Adam go as a team rebound, but it is
another offensive rebound for Rockford. A lot of times they've
shot a lot of threes, right, That's what Rockford does.
They're a good three point shooting team. They take a
lot of threes, a lot of long rebounds, and that's
what's leading to these second opportunities for the Rams.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
Lead is thirteen thirty one to eighteen. Rockford with the
basketball and the lead, Matier has it offset left, looking
at dribble, drive across the free throw line, kickout to Higgins.
Now the look at a three inching Berry's that one,
two for two for my hovey arc for Kate Higgins.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
And this is why Rockford's so good. I mean, an
y pitch is not the game right now. But they
got Kate Higgins. They can just.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Feed and she's scored, and they're extending the lead up
to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
They come at you in waves and they're really really good.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
And jay I mentioned this earlier. They're really positionless out there.
I mean, obviously they like down low putting Kate Higgins there,
but you know she can play out on the perimeter
as well, and she can handle the basketball.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
And what they were doing is they have five players
that could put the ball on the deck and kick,
and now they have five players before they could shoot
it Kate Higgins almost got another steal. Didn't bother the
shot that time of Payton Fellows the three from the
left wing air ball rebound Rockford here comes moter small
attacking Fellows got a way with a little push off
that time. Now gets it to Donnley Lisa for Addison
(51:40):
White Pitch step back jumper for good. How about that
for the fresh but a step back from seventeen just
inside the arc. Well, Addison wy Pitch might be a
ninth grader, but why she can really play. And that's
just part of the depth that this Rams team has.
And right now they're on a roll. You know, I
mean you say, don't pick your dribble up out top
play Kelley Central does, but it's tough when you got
these really athletic, really quick defenders in your face.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
Meer McDowell penetrates the top of the key, kicks right
side on the way and knocking it down. Nice triple
by Durlin. Really impressed with Hailey Durlin this first.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
Act twelve of their twenty one from Haley Drlin, the junior,
of course, was an outstanding player. Lashers, a sophomore for
the Cougars.
Speaker 1 (52:17):
High screen butterspawl might have got away with the travel
there on the drive left it short. Look who's digging
it out rebound specialist Kate Higgins and now losing the
handle that time, and she tried to drive to the lane.
Was Addison y pitch Cougar's just hanging around down fifteen
with the basketball moving right to left back to her cut.
Nice job, extra pass out three ball on the way,
(52:38):
left it short that time was Fellows. Rebound cleared by
Desiree Donley.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Yeah, I know we talked about it a lot, but
Rockford's ability to rebound is just another part of what
makes them so good. They've been really good on the
glass and both ends of the court tonight is a
big reason why they built a fifteen point.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
Lead one thirty left to go first half thirty six
to twenty one Rams trying to get to four to one.
We'll a win tonight. They'll take on East Ground Rapids
on Monday night. Addison why bitch with a left hand
might have shuffled defeet that time, but too strong on
the runner. Rebound cleared by Pickarazzi, hands off to miraman.
They walk it up across the timeline, checking out the pressure.
(53:13):
Remember doing a good job of having both defenders have
to guard here. That left someone opened Pickarazie with a triple.
Try no battle down low McKinney, try not to get
tied up. And now we have a reach in foul.
Take your pick. It's either my tear or don Ley.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
And just as they say it, Calx Central able to
crash the glass there and get offensive rebound and the
second opportunity here. But Rockford has done a pretty good
job for the most part in the glass. You know,
Grandma's Kallex Central getting some looks here from the outside.
That one didn't go. But Joey Hayley Dirlin she's found
the range three triples already in this ballgame, and she's
kind of keeping them in it a little bit.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Starter. Jaya Chandler back in the lineup for the Cougars
on the imbounds, also instrum who they throw it out
top two between the rings, get to the McKinny try
to dribble drive against Higgins cut her off. These are
Chandler Chandler strong drive down the lane, what up deflected
and out of bounce by my tear. Bodies hit the
deck lots of contact but no foul goal. It will
(54:09):
stay with the Cougars final forty nine point two seconds
left to go, first out.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
I love that by Chandler. Aggressive, put it on the deck,
get to the basket. You know you're gonna draw some contact.
Don't call that time you get it out of bounds.
But but I love the aggressive nature of this ground up.
It's Catholic central team.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
Fellow's gonna check out Meerman after a quick breather back
in along with Drlin dirling the inbound trigger to Meriman
top of the key, watched by Desiray Dialley. Now back
and in and out of the time try I almost
got it was Durlin rebound cleared by Edison.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
Why pitch, Yeah, you ran that play for Durlin, right,
she's your hot hand. Got a pretty good look there.
I guess they can't make them all. Maybe she is human.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
Why pitch strong move down the left side of the
land and showing why she's one of the best freshmen
of the state. What a finish with a left hand
off the window.
Speaker 2 (54:52):
Yeah, why pitch impressive again going to the left hands.
It almost looks like she prefers going to the left hands.
She's been really impressive there.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Dumped outloaded, dril it all the way back around to
Merimid triple try from the top, no off the mark
rebound mateer. See if Rockford holds for the final shot
here fifteen seconds left to go. First half thirty eight
twenty one y pits penetration kickout Donley for three des
a rate Donalley tickling the twe and it's a twenty
point lead now for Rockford half court. Heave no good
(55:23):
and that's the way the first half is gonna end.
What a run by the Rockford Rams after one jay
they lead it over grown up it's Catholic Central forty
one twenty one.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
Yeah, I'll tell you what they withstood that storm from
Catholic Central because after the big twenty three to nine lead,
the Cougars came crashing back, got back to a nine
point game. But then Rockford just the last four minutes
of that quarter just relentless defensively forcing turnovers, and they
started to heat up shooting the jump shot. When they
make jump shots, I don't know if there's anybody that can
beat them.
Speaker 1 (55:52):

Call Sam. Welcome back here. Court signed Cornerstone University's mull
Arena at the break after a late florry in the
end of the first half, Rockford biggest lead of the
night by twenty forty one twenty one. Let's take you
through the MKD Funeral Homes first half scoring summer with
Jays Nutton. He'll also give you a vandalist home improvement
keys to the second half of adjustments in the locker room.
(01:03:25):
But Rockford got off to that great start, Jay twenty
three to nine, and then you kind of described it.
I thought Catholic Central survived a little bit, was making
some inroads in the second quarter, and to wow, what
a flory about really the last minute and a half
of that second quarter to give Rockford this big lead.
Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Yeah, the Rams is kind of going from three point
land there to kind of push this out to a
twenty point lead at the half. So forty one for
Rockford in the first half, led by freshman Addison y
Pitch who's at her average thirteen points at halftimeow An,
a y Pitchers senior sister, the team's leading scorer, is eleven,
so she's out four points away from breaking Grace Lyons
(01:04:02):
career scoring record at Rockford. Kate Higgins nine points, six
of those coming late in that second quarter. Of the
two big threes, Desiree Donaldy with five points and Audrey
Mutterspa with three points for Rockford's forty one for Garrapd's
Catholic Central junior guard Hayley Dirlin with twelve of the
team's twenty one. Grace McKinney has three, Jaya Chandler two,
(01:04:23):
Ala Picarazzi two, and Peyton Fellows two to give the
Cougars twenty one.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
All right, so there's your first half scoring summery. It's
brought to you by our friends at MKDE Funeral Homes.

Com and forty four Start this second half, Jane, let's
take a look at the locker room halftime adjustments. I
don't know for bre To Wilson rock for if you
do much more, but let's start with Catholic Central and
the Cougars and Coach Fellows. What are you looking at here?
For your battle at home for at keys to the
second half, but.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
You gotta rebound defensively. I mean, they've been just decimated
by a second chance points for the Rams in that
first half. When the shot goes up, and if you're
gonna be in the zones, we sell a little bit
of zone that gets even more difficult. But man to
man or zone shot goes up, you gotta find your man,
get a body on him. And sometimes they've been getting
beat by these longer rebounds, which is tough. But if
you can find a man, get your body on him,
(01:05:30):
go get the basketball. Grahms Cux needs to rebound better.
And then offensively, they just they're picking up the dribble
a little too much out front in that trap and
being trapped a little too easily. It's much easier said
than done, but you know you're gonna try to attack
that trap a little more instead of the trap tack
attacking you.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
What's scary for Rockford is what we're seeing here has
been kind of a theme the last couple of years,
and I think it's gonna make Rockford one of the
toughest teams to beat this year in the area. On
the girls side is who do you stop but if
you have a one player with him or a second player,
they've got two or three players waiting there. Let's not
forget they're still waiting for one of their best players.
I mean, this is a Division one prospect and she's
(01:06:09):
only a junior siantle Wolf coming back from that ACL.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
I still think you have to take away the dribble
drive because Rockford, of course you're running the dribble drive.
Make him beat you from the three. I realized they
hit a bunch of threes there at the end of
the second quarter, but I think you feel better about
that and letting people get to the bucket on you
all night fellows.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
A good look from the right corner to start this
half for Catholic Central could knock down to three and
now a foul gonna go against Jaya Chandler on the
rebound attempt. Kind of a blow to the head, nothing intentional,
but it'll go the other way as we'll reset the
sporting you starting laps of the second half. But the
Keys to the Contest for the second half brought to
(01:06:43):
you by Vandalion Home Improvement against six one six, six six,
nine eleven to eleven. For more details, visit vandalions dot
Com for your next six seriear project and a Y
pitch thought about it from the right wing. Now dribbles
left side, kicks over to Kate Higgins as they go
five out of the perimeter. Higgins got the ball knocked away,
but gets it back Meerman guarding her left side wide
open material. She passed up the three over to y
(01:07:05):
pitch good luck and knocks it down him Selfish played
by Rockford.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Catholic center comes out in one three one zone. They've
got Grace McKinney at the head of that. She's long
and it was working a little bit, but then you
lose Anna y pitch, which can happen in a one
three one, and she makes you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Pay down low Chandler on the right block nice pass opposite,
but unable to handle with McKinney. Was a little low.
And here comes Addison Y pitch off the steel up
ahead left wing matear Rockford moving right to left on
your radio down here this second half at Mularita. Addison
WY pitch going baseline, deflected by Chandler. Now Higgins goes
up block by Chandler out of bounds. It'll stay with
(01:07:40):
Rockford and we'll have a chance to set our sporting
you starting line ups in the second half. So it's
Anna why pitch, Addison wy Pitch, Jordan Matteer, Kate Higgins
and Motherspaw same original starting five for Brad Wilson Catholic
Central with Chandler McKinney. It's down load. They go to Higgins.
Nice speed from Addison Wye pitch, so they go out
(01:08:00):
on the corner and then quickly downloaded Higgins just too
much for Chandler on the block.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Well a great baseline out of bounce play, Higgins throws
it into the left course she just hopped right into
the post. They throw it right back to her, easy
too and well executed.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Back thil the way. Nice answer by Hayley Durlin who
spent the hot hand for Catholic Central as they skipped
it across. Beat the Rockford defense on the backside. Mothersball
right corner out of a cutting man of Wie pitch
down the lane, no one on the backside. Hope for
Catholic Central. She puts it up and end.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Excellent cut by Wy pitch, really good going to the
basket at that time and just able to beat the defense.
Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
She's got a quick five to start the second half herself.
After that triple on that last na the record McKinney
can't knock down the three had a good look Chandler,
though in the long carem puts it back up and
in from twelve. I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
Jay Chandler is a player a Catholic Central needs. I mean,
she's really good. Get her some touches. She goes and
gets it on her own that time, gets the bucket.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Derlin and Fellows, rounding out the original starting five. Here
of the second half for Catholic Central, Materiar just off
the mark tonight from the corner. Can't get that three
ball to go, but step in steal to save it.
Here's Hannah Y pitch extra pass out to freshman Addison,
her younger sister. Now back to Anna left corner to
Materir short flat and battle for the rebound. What are
(01:09:14):
we gonna have? I think they're gonna get Adison a
y pitch with a foal Well.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Lots of looks at threes there for Rockford and they
couldn't get.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
One to go. Matteis has been off and she's kind
of the three points bestialist. Can't dial it in here tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
I mean if they can't have everybody on it right
or while score hand, they can they score one hundred.
We've seen it before, material have her Night's no question.
Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
By the way, every three pointer tonight we'll try to
get you a final count fifty dollars donation. It's our
baskets for kids kicking off the third year, like our
touchdowns for kids now. Depletion is steal by Anna Ye
pitch right to the glass, puts it up an end
down the left side, but finished with the right hand,
and she is your all time career scoring leader, as
(01:09:55):
you mentioned with a bucket before that one for Rockford.
Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
Of course, Grace Lions had just said it last year,
and I think there's potential for Cianna Wolf, depending on
how soon she gets back from her kne injury, to
maybe break Anna's next year. And then could Addison by
pitch come along in a couple more years and eventually
break that. So lots of talent in this Rockford system.
Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Down low Chandler two looks at it, couldn't get it
to go off the back end of the second rebound
Antawi pitch outlet to the Addison Adamson bringing up herself
into the front court. Now back down it between the rings,
no look past down low. No one had butter spaw
getting back for Catholic Central and an easy laying and
Rockford is making it look easy. Fifty two twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
Yeah, Cougars fell asleep on that one a little bit.
You just I mean, Rockford'll make you pay every time.
And they found butterspaw underneath for the easy two and
this was getting a lot of hand.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
How good is Rockford trying to answer? And she's had
an answer all night long. Hailey Dirlin with another three
from the right wing.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Lmcu's is gonna be paying up because of Hailey Dirlin
oh Man. Fourth to three of the game tonight, she's
got fifteen.
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Well remember Wes Cathay and Rockford to start the season
last year. I you're at Quarterstone University. I don't know
if these Rims are not. They had the all time
game mark is now another three dial up fifty more
dollars for Kidspoon Basket as Addison wy Pitch knocks it
down for Rocket.
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
I don't know what else you do if you the
cougar jan Chander right there with the hand in the
face and Addison White Pitchers buried it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
It was wolf Left last year who had I think
seven by herself in that opening went over West Catholic
now trying to go baseline and a skip passing the lane,
but lots of traffic deflected out of bounds. And last time,
like right app it's Catholic Central. It was durling on
the pass attempts. Now substitutions for Rockford desiree don Lee
(01:11:39):
coming in, Moterspall will come out and also the freshman
back in and Kendall Byers fifty five twenty eight. Rockford
trying to improve to four in one of the season
with a victory here, and then they'll get East Graham
Rapids coming up Monday night. Donale leaves it for out
(01:11:59):
of why pitch double team down front. Catholic Central trying
to be real aggressive and has to obviously with this
big deficit. Adison Y pitch extra pass don Ley out
to Higgins almost stolen that time by McKinney. Feet in
the middle, no shot clock in high school basketball, kick
out and a Y pitch off the mark rebound and
Kate Higgins's gonna tie up. Careful now, a little shoving
(01:12:21):
going on and now our technically is gonna be called
against Jaya. Chandler just frustrated and shoved Kate Higgins as
they were battling for the basketball. It's gonna be a
tie ball situation.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
No shot clock in high school basketball yet, hopefully, hopefully
there'll be one coming soon. I think I think this
game needs one.
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
To me, that's the final piece I think to really
have a beautiful flowing game for high school basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Don't really need one here tonight. These two teams getting
up and down the court. They're getting shots up. It's
been fun to watch. I mean, it's not super close.
The Rockfords is just really good. Yeah, Gmyskenllick Central.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
I've been impress graphics Catholic Center. They've got some good
young players. And with again the Okay Conference division alignment's changing,
there's gonna be some great conference races in Catholic Central.
Will be a part of that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Yeah. The Okay White now for Catholic Central, Forests northerns
off to a really good start. Ottawa Hills is playing well,
so that's gonna be a fun race there in the
Okay White.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
So Chandler picks up the techno fil and a wide
Pitch goes to the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
She missed the free throw tonight, so she reached her quota,
so she hits.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
The free throw. There, Rockford will have the basketball. Fifty
seven to twenty eight, three zero three left to go.
Third quarter should be Rockford basketball, shouldn't it? Yeah they
(01:13:48):
got it, Yeah they didn't. Confused that who had it?
You can't blame more than mirror for trying. I mean,
if no one else is gonna go to the ball
right exactly, this third quarta, by the way, being brought
to you by kids food basket, little motion out front,
Higgins open to Addison y Pitch, Catholic central doubly wherever
they can. They've got Ann along the sideline to Addison,
(01:14:08):
extra pass. Good job by the Rams to swinging around
left corner Kate Higgins for three, no rebound Pickarazzi.
Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
I couldn't believe that Ason y Pitch didn't shoot it
on the right wing. She was wide open. Maybe had
too much.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Time to think about that one passed it up unselfish
and the Wye Pitch sisters lead rock for as far
as assist on this team just really moved to basketball.
Well that's why they're so hard to defend. Gotta love
their unselfish plays. Meer Man now got the ball knocked away,
Senior knocked away by the freshman. Adison y pitch up
ahead to Anna Anna nice crossover draws the contact, no call,
(01:14:40):
but a finish with a left hand future Butler, bulldog
and a y pitch.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
So impressive, going to the left hand, just like her
little sister's been going to her left hand tonight. You
can tell these two, you know, they're working on that
a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
And nichol Olfellows has seen enough. She's gonna take a
time out here with two o seven left to go,
it is a full time out, so we'll step aside
as well. Rockford fifty nine ground rafis Catholic Central twenty
eight back with more from mull Arena after this on
nainety six to one the game. The Free Iheard Radio
app has over one hundred commercial free stations.
Speaker 17 (01:15:12):
Waiting for you to explore right now, like seventies Rock Ride,

Speaker 2 (01:15:28):

Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
Free Never sounded so good Welcome back to Cornerstone University'smullerino

the fourth quarter you could be Tonight's Wing Doozy fan
of the game. Listen for your chance to win that
twenty five dollars gift card perfect for the bowl season
coming up with Wing Doozy and I'll give you after
(01:15:59):
our next order break the number to call Joe at
will take your phone calls back in the studios in
downtown Grand Rapids. I mentioned this third quarter being brought
to you by Kids Food Basket back for your number
three baskets for kids. So every three point are made
during one of our Game of the Week broadcast, fifty
down is going to be donated. I don't know what
the count is now, but we got to be pushing
twenty partner. It's combined with the two teams in this
(01:16:22):
one and so off to a great start. Kids Food
Basket are official nonprofit for this high school basketball season.
You can find out more how to volunteer and everything.
Just go online at ninety six to one to game
dot com and go to our Trinity Health High School
basketball page for the winter season. So Catholic Central after
the time out with the basketball, McKinny left wing, some
(01:16:43):
substitutes in there for rock For McKinney, spins tries to
fish the right hand. No rebound cleared and now no,
she's tied up. I thought she was fouled. Kendall Bayer's
the freshman, had the rebound, but Possessionairo should be honest.
Is gonna stay with grund Rapids Catholic Central.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
I like that move by mckenni, you know everything, but
great move. Didn't get the finish to go. But you
stay aggressive like that. That's the key to playing well.
And now you get the ball back and you drop out.
Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Aubrey Villa reale in the ballgame for the first time
that night for Brad Wilson and Rockford. Meerman to inbounds it.
There was a whistle away on the inbounds last time
for Rockford.
Speaker 16 (01:17:29):
Yeah, I think that possession maybe, but.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
Whatever, so one they're gonna put it back on the clock.
Third quarter, fifty nine to twenty eight. Lauren Meherman to
inbounds underneath their own basket for Catholic Central, moving left
to right on your radio dial in Catholic Central. I
think that'll be a way of a game. Will take
on wes Cathock, their rival on Monday Night.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
I agree, I think that might be two of the
best d two teams are in this area this year,
and of course they're not in the same district this season.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
Strong move that time on the Inbunce wide open the
left elbow took one dribble of the lane and pulled
up Ella big Arazzi for two.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
So the Cougars and Falcons would not meet until the
regional this year. Should they both emerge, Victoria's in their district,
but they of course get an early season showdown. I
think football could take a nice lesson from that way.
Why aren't they playing in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
How about how impressive West Catholck was in this early
caring over East gran Rapids fifty six to twenty eight
triple try by Buyers, the freshman Rockford, no battle for
the rebound, unable to corral it. That goes into the
Rockford bench was Lili Engstrom.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Yeah, you know a new head coach for West Catholic.
You know, Jill Van der Andy stepped down Derek pie
steps in. They still have Aliciadikstra headed to Toledo. They've
got some really good players. Anna Ignatowski had twenty three
today in their win over East Grand Rapids.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
So it's just so good to see her back after
all the injuries she's battled in their career. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
Absolutely, she played well today.
Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Desiree Donnelly went across the lane leaves of Ranowy pitch.
Now the drive up anunder, couldn't finish with the right hand,
but right there's her sister to Baylor out in Adison
Way pitch right Donnley. Another offensive rebound for Rockter and
a bump gonna be called against Engstrom. Fifty point nine
seconds left to go in the third try to get
(01:19:10):
some scores. You're way at the end of the third quarter.
Coming back with Joe errand Red Wings Griffins in action
College football playoff. Last check it was Notre.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Dame fourteen to three, ten seconds still halftime.
Speaker 1 (01:19:21):
Yep, fighting Irish at home and now the twelve team
college football playoff. I love the in state battle with
Indiana two. Who'sia has had a great year this year?
This one loss like Notre Dame coming into this one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Yeah, they haven't played in me thirty years.
Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
Buyers on the inbounds now try to dump a doll
was billar Reale, She got it stolen. Good job by Pickarazzi,
lives it for Meriman. Cougar's on the attack final thirty
six seconds in the third quarter, top of the key,
oh Meerman was going to pull the trigger. They left
her open for a moment, but then closed out Man
de Man pressure defense still for Rockford.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Yeah, Mereman excellent ball handler, excellent distributor. Doesn't shoot a
ton for a point guard.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
So past that one up kick oppositting nowt Durlin trying
to dump it down low stepping steel. Good recognition by
desiree don Lee coming off her player to knock it away.
We'll stay with Catholic Central down on the far end.
Fifty nine thirty Pockford impressive up my twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Over the Cougars. We've still got the fourth quarter to play.
I know, any Ourbrighabshards really good. You know they were
state champion in D two last year. I'm just Rockcord.
I'm sure didn't play their best. I'm just really surprised
that they were a team that could beat this team,
and I get it, Sanno Wolfs. They're not even whole yet,
but it's just a really good.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
Rockford team knocked away in a late fiul. I'm gonna
go against Ma tier on the reach on the inbounds,
trying to get it to Durlin. By the way, our
next broadcast. As far as the Rockford girls basketball team,
we're gonna see them at home against my Skigan January seventh,
and that's gonna be an up and down game. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
See, that's the next time you and I will be together.
I was excited about that guy. When I saw the schedule,
I was like, I'm definitely gonna be there January seventh.
You know, Mariah Sane Rock Skiking was basically everybody back
from last year's team. They played a tough schedule this year.
They're two and three, but don't let that fool you.
They've played some really good teams.
Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
Picarazzi down low. Nice feed from Durling out top as
she was getting double teamed and Piccarazzi couldn't finish, but
was filed. She'd go to the charity stripe. Yeah, that'll
be a six forty five pregame show. Seven o'clock tip
on the Tuesday night from Rams Arena jona Us for
the Jnhe Family Stores pregame show right here on ninety
six to one. In the game, we go back and forth.
(01:21:24):
Our next broadcast I mentioned Monday night here at cornerstonis
part of their high school hoops holiday tournament, brought to
you by Meyer Piccarazzie. No good, too strong on the
first second one up coming. We're gonna go to the
boys side, and I tell you, I know you've got
a chance to look at the Bulldogs. They beat South
Christian and the Calvin University invite last Saturday. But Byron
Center Boys against this Grand Rafts Catholic Central Boys team.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
Yeah, I'm super impressed with Byron Center. I mean, we
talk about Isaac Lee and Jayden Bowman, who've kind of
made this team complete now that they're back in there.
Speaker 1 (01:21:53):
Deep three by why Pitch trying to beat the horn
air ball as the second one was good by Pickarazzie.
Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
Ken Hinkles has been the guy for them this year,
you know. I mean, he's been their leading scorer in
all their games. They were so impressive beating Force till
Central on Tuesday, So I really like what Byron Center's doing.
I to a Catholic Central. They're playing a lot of
Junior's Day. Larthreege is a guy to really watch for
the Coopers.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
After three Rockford fifty nine grand up, it's Catholic Central
thirty one. We'll come back with a fourth and final
quarter after this. On naety six y one, the game

Speaker 18 (01:22:58):
Back inside of the nine sixth one, the game studio
was quick scoreboard. The Red Wings now trail the Montreal
Canadians four to three with two seconds left the grand
Rafferends Griffin's fall to the Milwaukee Admiral six to one
and at half Notre Dame Leeds, Indiana in the College
football Playoff roun one seventeen two three.
Speaker 16 (01:23:14):
Let's head back to mal Arena for fourth quarter action.
Brett Pakeita and Jason Nutton.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
Thank you, Joe, appreciate that we told you was a
busy Friday night, and don't forget coming up here. I'll
give you the number to set your redount right now,
but we'll give you the queue to call in just
a little bit for our wing Doozy fan of the game,
you could score twenty five dollars gift guard to one
of our great sponsors. Wingoozy the number to six one, six,
four five, four thirty seven seventy six. Now don't call yet,
but you can set your redals six one, six four
(01:23:40):
five four thirty seven seventy six. Rockford started with the basketball.
You're the fourth quarter up fifty nine thirty one, buyers
to freshman backing the way down. Nice block that time
of the sophomore fellows Elder Brown went vertical and just
too much heights for buyers.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
Yeah, I'm really impressed. With the sophomore, Payton Fellows, the
daughter of head coach Nicole Fellows, really uses her lane
to her advantage. She's played really well here tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
Triple try that time getting a hand up and I
think deflecting it and for the first time was Anaka
Drolma for Rockford. Now back the other way. Why pitch
pulls up at the top of the key and knocks
down at three. That's the senior Anay pitch off the
miss that time of the block against Darlin.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
You know, it's a day and age where everybody in
basketball runs ball screens. Rockford doesn't run a ton of them.
At that time. They did and it got her. It
got Anna a really good look.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
Now and knock Away trying to feed McKinny was drilling
in the paint. Rockford back the other way. Buyers reset
between the rings to Annay pitch. So it's anna Y
pitch out there to droll him a nice pick and
roll Oh rolls off the front of the rim trying
to finish.
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
I'm trying to remember, I don't remember Rockford running any
ball screens in it. Now two possessions in a row,
they run the high ball screen, you know, it's it's
kind of interesting this day and age. Everybody runs ball screens.
Speaker 1 (01:24:51):
Trying a lot of different stuff. Brad Wilson downing up
sixty two thirty one anay pitch still in the game
and bounds it to Buyers working against Spellows crossover goes
up strong left hand. No fellow's doing a good job
of bothering it without following, and now we have a
foul on the rebound attemp by material.
Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
See that's what we used to see hi from Rockford
Buyers there that time. You know, you take your pick.
They've got so many good players. You put them out
there at the top and you just beat your defender
off the dribble because they can.
Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
All do it. That's just the point, and that's why
I was saying. Kate Higgins has added that to her game.
So they can go five out of the perimeter and
just look for the matchup they want dissect you. It
just take you one on one.
Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
Attack the defender that you want to attack, because they
can all do it.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
By the way, we want to salute and a y
Pitch the Senior and Miss basketball candidate. She was this
week's Myer Prep Athlete of the Week On ninety six
to one. The game, it would radio four point zero
student going to Butler. As we mentioned next year, Chandler
on the drive, No, but the follow up and good.
And I've been impressed with pick a Rozzie tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
Yeah, I'll pick a Rozsie doing a nice job. You know,
she's not real tall, but she plays so much taller.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
She does her frames, long arms, good rebounder, good defender,
and a Wie pitch penetration, kick out right side triple try. Oh,
they wanted it for villar Real one of the seniors
couldn't get it to go. And now we have a
push against Rockford out of bound, so it'll be Catholic
Central basketball. Six to eleven left to go. Might be
(01:26:12):
it for Anna y pitch. She gets a high five
from Brad Wilson and back into the lineup is Motspaw
for her.
Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
I wasn't keeping steals. Did she get the steels record?
She got the points record, the free throws records. She
already had the assist record. We'll have to verify the
stats in our final scoring stummy.
Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
We got a lot. We got to figure out all
the threes that have been made tonight. Fifty dollars a
pop the kids flute basket courtesy of our friends at MCU.
Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
A lot of times the coaches use Huddle assists for
these and so they don't get them in until Huddle's
had a chance to go back and watch the film.
But I believe she's got a couple steals to them.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
Yeah, we know she's got free throw made and the
scoring record tonight Chandler after the steal up ahead, nice
pass and a nice Lieutenant finish. Hayley Drlin continues to
have a big night for the Cougars.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Yes, seventeenth for Durlin, nearly half for team's points. She's
played really well.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Only a junior. As you mentioned now Addison, why pitch
with a crossover and finished no One home on the backside,
of course, Catholic Central trying to push up defensively to
get steals, and why pitch takes advantage of the left
handed lay in.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
Probably not surprisingly, this is the highest scoring game of
the day here at Cornerstone, of course, rees Buffer Spartan boys.
We're sixty to fifty nine in the first game.
Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
Pickarazie down low and hand one and now the reach
in file for Rockford just checking at the last break.
Alexis Madua number ten, the junior guard. But Piccarazi continue
to add to here total. I'll tell you what that
West Cathoic Catholic Central game, not only just because it's
the Holy War, that's gonna be a heck of a
battle on Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
We'll get up early Monday night at five and am.
Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Yeah, Monday morning. I should say that's one of the
nights because they switched the lineup around that. The boys
will play later, girls are earlier. A lot of great matchups.
As we mentioned, Aaron sat Graves and his staff here
at Cornerstone University just wanted to get a lot of
teams and programs on campus. Fifty two schools participated this
year over nine days with this holiday tournament kind of
(01:28:01):
in different brockets now with steel. Nice job by Buyers
the freshman to the other freshman, Addison, why pitch down
the lane? Shot blocked by pick a Rozzie And what
did they call? Oh wow, I thought that was a
clean block as she went up. But they're gonna call
pick a Rozzie with the reach in foul.
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
You talk about the great games on this schedule. Monday,
the Rockford boys. The Rockford boys are really good. Bra
they're gonna play Mona Shores. I see Jake Bascom sitting
under the hoop down there watching the Rockford girls team.
How about the schedule? Mona Shors is played this week alone.
They played Hudsonville Tuesday, Northview Thursday, and they're gonna play
Rockford on Monday and Shores isn't bad. No, but their
record's not good because they've played everybody that's any good.
Speaker 1 (01:28:40):
And one of their top players is their quarterback Jonathan Yeah,
he did.
Speaker 2 (01:28:43):
Not play last night against Northview. I saw him in
the bench. He had a foot in the boot. They
need to get him back because he's really good.
Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
Addison, why pitch the freshman getting both free throws?
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Jordan Bledsoe though, I really like Bledsoe the point guy
for Mona Shores. He's a good player.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Sixty six thirty seven Rock for impresevertor tonight against the
Catholic Central who came in at four and oh Rock
for at three to one. Pick a Rozzi close to
a five second call gets it back to Merriman between
the circles. Now jump down low on the right block,
Chandler backing her way down. Nice job going up strong
and muscling up at it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
See and that's what you can see the potential of
Cougar's team. And they have a lot of players too.
Jay Champions her leading scorer. She hadn't gotten a lot
of opportunities here tonight, but she can really.
Speaker 1 (01:29:19):
Play only a junior as well. That junior class really
for both programs outstanding. Here's another one bringing it after
the steal into the front court kick left side, Merriman
thought about the three now trying to dribble drive cut
off by Moter Squall, turns back there other way and
puts it up with the right hand. No what is fouled.
But Hayley Dirlin a junior, Chandler a junior, and then
(01:29:45):
he got Fellows to sophomore. As far as the future
for Grandappitts captic central, Meriman gonna have played a Quinas
College next year. Knocking down the first just a good
floor game average is about five points per game, but
takes good shots and gets to the free throw line
because of it. Fellows checking out McKinney, the sophomore back end.
(01:30:07):
She's gonna play next year at Hillsdale College. And Meerman
gets them.
Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
Both sixty six forty one right the pipeline from Graham's couch,
Central Hillsdale. In all sports, we see a lot of
cougars end up over at Hillsdale Course. Excellent academic school,
absolutely excellent athletics.
Speaker 1 (01:30:21):
Why pitch now trying to take the senior McKinney shut
her off as she got to the left lock kick
back out trip will try no by Drollima follow up
moterspall can't get it to go, battle for the rebound
and it goes off with buyers out of bounds. For Rockford,
it'll be ground up. Its Catholic central basketball. Let's do
this right now with our fan of the game, Caller
(01:30:43):
five to our studios, Joe Erron'll take your phone calls
at sixty one six four five four thirty seven seventy six.
That's six one six four five four thirty seven seventy six.
Caller five will announce who it is and where you're
listening from our wingoosy fan of the game, and you'll
score that twenty five dollars gift card. Perfect for the
Bowls season in college. But well coming up from wing
Doozy back to the action, McKinney fouled and we'll go
(01:31:05):
to the charity stripe for two in the active shooting.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
You know, both these teams love to schedule operate. I
mean you got call ex Central playing Rockford here, they
play West Catholic on Monday. They're gonna play Portland coming
up in early January. Portland's obviously very good. You look
at Rockford schedule. They've already played in our bro Gabri
Shard Wayne Memorial. You know, they play in East Can'twood.
They're playing Theskegan, they're playing of course, he's come with
the league game. Yeah, that means anybody, anybody and everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:31:32):
McKinnie knocks out the second kind after missing the first
and a full time out called by Brad Wilson. I
think he's gonna get some other players maybe in here,
three forty eight left to go on this one sixty
six forty two. It is Rockford over granted Appids Catholic Central.
We'll come back with more on the finish here at
Mula Arena after this on ninety six to one, the
(01:31:52):
game one more reason the Chiefs Michigan Auto long.
Speaker 21 (01:31:56):
Yeah, Michigan on a long. We combine deep local knowledge
of our community. Specialization in auto accident law. That's why
last year we once again recovered the highest auto action
settlement in West Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
To qualify, you must be in business.
Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
This fourth quarter being brought to you by Wing Doosy
named the best chicken wings in West Biscuit three years running.
Oh in those fries with locases the Wyoming and the
Metro Health Billadova Byron on Our Avenue and just off
Chicago Drive in Hudsonville, right by the Ace Gemmis. We'll
announce our wing juicy fan of the game. Thanks for
everyone called in coming up in our post game show,
brought to you by Discount Door Rockford and a y
(01:33:14):
pitch for three left a short Addison Ye pitch with
a rebound Butters ball back in there along with Higgins
and Mateer at the three twenty six mark left to go.
In this one, the lead is twenty four up and
under against Chadler. A nice job there by Butterspall.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Yeah, excellent job by Muterspat. You know it's interesting it
was sixty two to thirty one before that bucket by
number five. This wasn't eleven to four stretch with the
Cougars outscoring the Rams. And you said Rockord's gonna bring
in some new players. They brought the starters back in.
Speaker 1 (01:33:43):
Yeah, I was surprised by that. I thought they might
clear the bench a little bit under control here with
this one. McKinney down low. Nice job by Catholic Central
and filed again to go back to the Jerseys.
Speaker 11 (01:33:53):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
Yeah, we've talked about it a lot tonight. I just
I think there's a lot of positives here to build
down with Catholic Central. You know they're down twenty six,
they're not gonna win this game tonight, They're playing a
really good opponent. But I think there'll be a team.
You know, you've got three months here to grow, almost
three months, and I think they have the potential to
be really dangerous in Division two. Come March.
Speaker 1 (01:34:13):
McKinny misses the first second one upcoming and a wide
pitch of Kate Higgins gonna check out back in is
Drollima and also checking in Desiree Donneley second free throw
on the way around it out, McKinney missed him both
Mater's ball with the rebound for Rockford. Stay with us
for the discount door post game show will take it
(01:34:34):
through the individual scoring Somebody brought to you by m
K d I, Funeromes and more. Rockford had to hurry there,
just beat the ten second goal as full court pressure
by Catholic Central, mateer now not even looking for a
shot at the three, dumping it down low to droll Ama.
Good unselfish play there and Anika was filed as she
went up, so Drolma will go to the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
Man A nice job by Rockford. They're working it in
to Drollima. We had to look at a jump shot,
but you talk all night about them being unselfish. Get
it inside the Drolima.
Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
And good recognition, not only to get a teammate to score,
as Drolloma hits the first, but also sometimes you have
to recognize the player that it's not your night. She's
missed some shots from behind the arc, even though she
is a three point specialist, and just saying, hey, you
know what, let's get a better shot, and Trollama makes
it pay off as she knocked down both free throws.
Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
Yeah, it's your can really fill it up. And she
didn't shoot it great tonight, but you know her, She's
done other things defensively, distributing, rebounding to help her team
have a twenty eight point league.
Speaker 1 (01:35:35):
Here's Jerlin dribble round handoff and pick a rose and
the left wing skip pass over. Now gets it back
right side, thinks about the three. It's got Drollima on
her nice penetration kick out, good looking at three and
knocking it down. Lily Engs from that time for the
left wing for the Cougars.
Speaker 6 (01:35:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
Nice, Just a great knight for Haley Darling. She's played
really well he has and Ekstrom knocked down the open shot.
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
Kick out Desirae Donnalie three. It's waiting threes here, fifty
dollars here, fifty dollars. They're all for kids.
Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
Food basket you get a three, Oprah must be.
Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
Here, baskets, baskets for kids. Off to a great start
two years in a row.
Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
Cornerstones laid out the red carpet.
Speaker 1 (01:36:17):
Now trying to answer back the other way. What hit
twice off the back heel then bounced out that time
for Maria app and rebound cleared by Joloma. They're looking
junior with size Anika Droloma and now in the front
course he crossed the timeline. Little bump gonna be called
that time by Derland working against Addison y pitch now
(01:36:41):
substitutions more both ways. Check it in for Rockford Philo
Real along with junior Alexis Mtzdura also coming in for
the first time tonight. I believe for Grant afpd's Catholic
centralist Ema Mead, the senior number fourteen Addison White pitch,
(01:37:02):
dribble penetration to Matar Now kicks out extra passo they
tried to get at that time. For Madua, she could
knock down the three from the right wing, but I
had a good look.
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
Are you as surprises me then and go in? At
this point, I just expect them all to go in.
Speaker 1 (01:37:14):
I mean seventy three forty five, that's scoring some points
for Rock where we still got one nineteen left to
go before we're done. McKenny stepped through the eurostep. Oh,
couldn't finish off the window. Nice move by the senior.
Loose ball picked up pick a Rozzi. Strong move on
the baseline. No keeps it alive, though tipped around. Catholic
Central stays with the possession. McKinny deep three out, top
(01:37:37):
lets it fly, No off the back iron battle for
the rebound and Addison, why pitch has it?
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
I like catch central shots selection. I mean they're going
hard to the basket. They're getting some pretty good looks.
They haven't made as many as they probably would have
liked tonight, but he can't be upset with the shots
they're taken.
Speaker 1 (01:37:53):
Stick around tonight We'll announce our uptown Chiefskate offensive player
of the game in this one, also our Montel Construction
Defensive player of the game. Good job by Mateer dribbling
leaves it for Villa Reale. Final thirty four seconds in
this one seventy three forty five. Rockford with a win,
gonna improve to four and one for Catholic Central, just
their first loss of the season, but a Division two
(01:38:14):
team against the Division one power in the stadium Rockford.
Here's drollom ole top little keep away. Now McKinny with
the double team, they knock it away. Nice job by Inkstrom,
Engkstram up ahead and Addison, why pitch just lets her go.
Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
She lays it up an egg and Shream's another player
who can really help this team. You know she's she's
gonna spark plug for them this year already. And nice
steal there.
Speaker 1 (01:38:36):
Mattier now just gonna dribble it out and there's the final.
Rockford wins it going away seventy three forty seven. They
will take on the Pioneers of East Grand Rapids Monday
morning slash afternoon and for Catholic Central their first loss
of the season. But it doesn't get any easier. They
will take on West Cathay who won easy over East
Grand Rapids tonight eleven am on Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
Yeah, it should be a game. I mean it's early Monday,
but should be a great matchup. Seventy three forty seven.
Rockford wins the game. Aaron Sagrave's tournament director, has the
unenviable task of picking MVP. So do he before he
makes his pick? I think he's gonna pick Addison Y
Pitch the Boy. It could be Anna, could be Kate Higgins.
Speaker 1 (01:39:17):
Well guess what you get to do it for our
uptown Chiefs. Kate offensive player the game. I'm gonna I
don't want me to save it. I know who I'm
gonna go.
Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Yeah, yeah, I'm saying predicted Aaron's gonna go that.
Speaker 1 (01:39:25):
Well, okay, well we don't have to go with Aaron,
by the way, No, I we'll make our own pick.
So we'll do that. Coming up, stay with us with
a discount door postgame show after this time out. Plus
we'll have our J and H Family Stores highlight of
the game as Rockford wins it tonight in This Girl's
Battle over grann up Its Catholic Central seventy three forty
seven of the Final back with more after this on

mul Arena. Welcome into the discount door. Postgame show and
impressive win, win number four on the season for the
Rockford Rams. They get it done over Catholic Central tonight
on the girls side seventy three forty seven. The final,
it's time out to take it through our MKD Funeral
Homes final scoring summery and let's take a team. Wise,
Rockberg got off to that quick start, Jason and really
(01:41:51):
never looked back, twenty three to nine after one. Then
remember Catholic Central did have a good stint probably four
minute block in that second quarter. But then the last
minute and half before the half, Rockford spurted it out
to the biggest lead of this game at that point,
forty one twenty one. And it was all the Rams
in the second half, knocking down the threes, doing what
they wanted, getting to the Ram fifty nine to thirty
(01:42:11):
one after three, and then your final seventy three forty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
Well, Annay Pitch was named the most Valuable Player by
tournament director Aaron Sagraves, not our most player. She did
lead all scores tonight with twenty five points, in the
process becoming Rockford's all time leading scorer in girls basketball,
the all time leader in free throws made at Rockford,
we think, the all time leader in steels, and she
already owned the record for assists.
Speaker 1 (01:42:34):
Yeah, so four to her credit. If she got the
one with the steals.
Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Not a bad night for Annoy Pitch twenty five points
lead all scores. Her younger sister, Addison, who is a freshman,
had twenty points tonight for the Rams. Kate Higgins, the junior,
had eleven points, Desiree Donaldley had eight points, Udrey Mutterspa
had seven points, and Anaka Droloma added two points for
the Rams seventy three points. Hayley derlined Grand up its
(01:43:02):
Catholic Central tonight with nineteen points. She was the only
Cougar in double figures. Emma Ella Picarazzi had nine points
for Grand Rapids Catholic Central. Lillly Inkstrom had five in
this game, six points for Jaya Chandler, four points for
Grace McKinney, and two points for Peyton Fellows for forty
(01:43:26):
seven for the Cougars, who are now four and one.
Speaker 1 (01:43:27):

Back to the Discount Door post game show here live
from Cornerstone University's Mulla Rita. Rockford wins it over Granfit's
Catholic Central on the girl side tonight seventy three forty seven.
They'll take on East On Rapids coming up on Monday
early day there, and what a matchup Wes Catholic who
went tonight over East Grand Rapids fifty six twenty eight
taking out the cougars of Catholic Central. The Holy War
on the curls basketball side, gonna be a good one there.
(01:47:12):
Joined us right now in the Montel Construction Coaches Corner
rockforded coach live Brad Wilson. Brad, thank you so much
and congratulations Happy holidays. But what a win here tonight.
And I know you were impressed by Catholic Central, a
good ball club here, but you guys really took it
to them in the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:47:27):
Yeah, I mean, hats off to Catholic Central.
Speaker 23 (01:47:29):
They played really hard and thanks to Cornerstone for putting
this on every winner. You know, holiday season, it's sort
of really what makes it go. And we've been coming
here for years and they never they never let us down.
Such an awesome experience. But our team came out with
a lot of energy and shared the ball, played hard
on defense, and you know, we had a lot of
kids that stepped up and made big plays in the
(01:47:50):
big moments, and so super proud of our team.
Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
I felt like in that first half a big difference
for you guys was second chance points. I mean, the
way you guys went to the offensive class. How important
was that in this game? How important is that for
you as a team.
Speaker 23 (01:48:01):
Yeah, it's really a huge part of our identity. We
talk about no second chances for them, and obviously we
need to get as many second chances as we can get,
so we work on rebounding every day and it's a
huge part of our identity. And I thought we did
well tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:48:13):
I was really impressed, and I know Anna has that
as part of her game. A list or older sister
at Mischicontect did, but even Addison as a freshman. They
lead you and assist the wide pitch sisters so unselfish.
But then when you have that, how contagious it is.
For example, Jordan Matier tonight, your three point specialists, they
were setting her up for looks. It wasn't going for her.
She recognized that, and a lot of times I thought
(01:48:34):
she passed up a shot but got a better shot
with a pass.
Speaker 23 (01:48:37):
Yeah, we talk a lot about you know, good teams
versus great teams, and great teams share the ball and
it's not about what's the best look for you, it's
what's best for the team. And our team is so
unselfish they're willing to make the extra pass. And I
really think that that's what sets us apart.
Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
You are, obviously, I mean, you're one of the best
teams in this day. Your scheduling enough. You alread played
Wayne Memorial, gave her vershard. You're gonna play Miskeig in
here in a couple weeks. We'll be there for that one.
What does this non conference schedule in playing these tough teams,
what do you want to see from your team?
Speaker 23 (01:49:06):
You know, through that yeah, we want to play the
best teams that we can possibly put on our schedule,
and really what happens is it just exposes us in
our weaknesses, you know, and it really shows us if
if we're not a good rebounding team, when you play
good teams, they're going to show that out right. And
so we want to play the best teams we can
early on so we can see what our weaknesses are
and work on them for the duration of January and
February so we can make a big run in March.
Speaker 1 (01:49:28):
And finally, you and I talked about this in our
pregame conversation this week. You know, you could see Cno
over here with her teammates. She's shot up at the
bit and it won't be long before she's out there
again after that ACL injury. But all coaches I talk to, football, basketball,
whatever sport, when you have an injury, it's next player up, right,
and you grow because of that because now your depth
is even more When she comes.
Speaker 23 (01:49:48):
Back, yeah, there's no question about it. And obviously she'll
be a huge addition to us. But she's grown in
so many ways off the court, and as you saw,
I mean, she's our biggest energy bug on the bench.
She's really starring in her role in other kids are
getting opportunities to get in and get lots of minutes.
So we're we're creating depth and so you know, if
you're looking for a bright side of it, you hate
to see kids get hurt. I would say we made
(01:50:08):
the best of it, and she's gonna be back soon
and I know she's gonna show out for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:50:12):
Coach. Always a pleasure. Great win tonight, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas.
Do you best of luck Monday night though against the
spread rappids, Harry Christmas? Do you guys too? All right?
Thank you so much, appreciate it. Brad Wilson joining us here,
Rockford head coach. They get the victory tonight seventy three
forty seven the final and Jay, as we wrap things up,
you've been waiting now for this. You heard Aaron Sagrave's pick,
It's now your time, uptown chiefskate offensive player of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
It's a little anti climactic because I'm going to the
same pick Aaron Dan. How can you not give it
to any pitch? When she sets the school scoring record,
free throws made record and Steele's record already had the
assists record and she had a game I twenty five
easy call any pitch.
Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
All right, Congratulations to her. Are Uptown Cheapskate. Offensive player
of the Game with twenty five points is brought to
you by Uptown Chiefskate Locations in Granville, Kentwood, and Holland
to serve you and she will get a gift card
to do some shopping this Christmas season for Anna with
Uptown Cheapskate. I'm the defensive signe brought to you by
Montel Construction. I'm gonna go with a player we just highlighted,
(01:51:09):
Jordan Mattier. She can really fill it up. Knock down
to three. The shooting guard junior realized it maybe wasn't
her night shooting, and she did other things assisting other
teammates to get better shots. But she had a ton
of deflections and steals tonight. So Jordan Mattier of Rockford,
number twelve, the junior guard, is gonna be our Montel
Construction defensive Player of the Game, brought to you by
my home team. And for your next exterior project, don't
(01:51:30):
forget about Montel Construction all right. Finally, J and H
Family Stores highlight of the game. Before we wrap things
up here from mull Arena, we gotta go back to
Ana why pitch. It was her night historic right with
all the different categories becoming career leaders at Rockford for
girls basketball. Well she led the way with twenty five points.
And here was one of her highlights. Offensively tonight against
(01:51:51):
the pressure they lose it unable to handle it that
time was the senior McKinney monterspawned the kickout.
Speaker 8 (01:51:57):
To wy pitch No and a why pitch though the
other side the senior knocks down the three.
Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
And that was a big one. An ay pitch, good
ball moment you saw and attacking that offensive glass to
keep plays alive. N Ay pitch with our J and
H Family Stores highlight of the game brought to you
by J and H Family Stores. Stop being on the
way to your next game or on your way home.
Our wing Doosey fan of the game today, Thank you
to all our listeners and calling in and calling number
five to start off the basketball season was Steve Kyleson
(01:52:26):
of Grand Rapids. Thank you, Steve, You've got a twenty
five dollars gift card coming you way. And we have
to thank Aaron Sagraves and his staff. They do a
great job. We're gonna be here a couple more times
with our LMCU game of the week coverage for high
school basketball before the holidays are done. But they set
us up court side and Jay looking forward to the
action coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
Yeah, there's a lot of great matchups coming up tomorrow, Boom,
Monday all day and then after Christmas into the new year.
So he can't beat it. I mean, ten bucks for
all these games. It's it's good stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:52:53):
Next up, Buck Gino will join me court side a
Monday night seven point fifteen with the pregame coverage seven
point thirty, the approximate tip off. You're on ninety six
to one of the game. We're going to the boys side.
And I want to ask Jay because he's seen them live.
I have not yet. I haven't been in high school
basketball mode until tonight. But the Bulldogs of Byron Center
and coach Rodriguez, he's got a lot coming back. They
(01:53:16):
are very good. They beat South Christian last Saturday at
the Calvin University Invite. What should we expect from the
Bulldogs as they take on the boys growing up, it's
Catholic Central team.
Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
Well, They're a lot of fun to watch, and they
got they have won loss this year. They lost to Grandville.
Grandville solid played a tough schedule, but they didn't have
Isaac Lee still coming up the football season, and they
didn't have Jadon Bowman yet the transfer from me. He's
count one with those guys all together. They beat South
Christian at the invite and then they blew out a
really good for Still Central team on Tuesday. So Byron
Center's really good. I think it's a good matchup at
Central County. Central's God dudes too.
Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
All right, before we wrap things up to just your
final thoughts, So I want to promote this Farri State
going for a national championship Division two level in football
against unbeaten Valdosta State tomorrow. Will have the coverage right
here courtesy the Bulldog Sports Network on ninety six to one,
the game one o'clock, pre game two o'clock kickoff. Does
Tony d spring home national championship number three? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:54:05):
Somebody asked me early day, who you picking fair State
at Valdosta State. Well, I don't know anything about Valdosta State.
Obviously they're a great program. They're always down there. But
like I'm gonna pick fair State because I know what
I'm getting with Tony and East and the Bulldogs, And
I don't know who's gonna win, but.
Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
I'll ride with the Bulldog by the way, just down
the road. When he played at Forestills Northern, how good
is Trinidad Chamblis's been a quarterback for Farris State.
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
I remember that recruiting class. Yeah, I was still working
at Fox seventeen at the time, and I believe he
brought in seven or eight or nine quarterbacks, you know,
not all to play quarterback, but Tony loves to recruit
quarter That was usually the best team right on their
high school team and Carson Gulker Trinida.
Speaker 1 (01:54:37):
Carson Golker broke.
Speaker 2 (01:54:38):
His lake in the first game, right, and most teams
would be like done because you lost your quarterback. And
then boom, Trinidad Chamblis just steps in and they don't
miss a beat. It's impressive.
Speaker 1 (01:54:47):
Harlan Hill finalist, unbelievable and the guy could sling it.
I remember one of his final games, we covered him
over at Forest Hill's Eastern against Forest Hill Central. I'm like, wow,
first time I'd seen him play. He was a good
basketball player. Saw him many times on the Hardcore, but
I'm like this guy as a bright future chose football
at Fair Estate.
Speaker 2 (01:55:04):
Yeah, that was a playoff Gamemember and they played it
for SOLS Eastern because whoever was supposed to host it
was renovating their field. I remember that too. Yeah, he
was so impressive and lost that day.
Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
He was and so best of luck to Trinity Jobs
you remember he can you to shoot it? Tonydese and
the Bulldogs to my own again. One o'clock starts the
pregame coverage right here on ninety six one. The game
can't do it without the guy back of the studios,
in studio host, executive producer, Extraordinary technical difficulties aside, he
just finds a way to get it done. Thank you,
Joe Aaron, Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to you. Same
(01:55:34):
to the hut and family. Jay always a pleasure And
for Brett Pikita wrapping things up here tonight, want to
say our final score Rockford seventy three, Grand Rapids Catholic
Central forty seven. Thanks for listening to the MC high
school basketball Game of the Week right here on ninety
six to one.
Speaker 13 (01:55:50):
The game Life Insurance. Why are you putting it off.
Can't afford it too much, hassle, think you don't need it.
There's lots of excuses for putting off life insurance, but
if you weren't there, who would pay the mortgage and
other bills? With ETHOS you could be covered.
