Speaker 2 (00:04):
They've got sexted in there as well. They want to
go powerhouse football.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
McDonald over the right Side, Reaches out.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Touchdown with game previews and analysis from our broadcast crew.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Songgate looking his way, takes a snap from center.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Looking look you nowhere to go? Gonna throw it to
the corner of the hands out.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Oh he was crapping.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I think he made the catch. He did blot up
being your.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Tip cats, I know. Plus, you'll hear from an area
coach every week and our Coaches Corner segment see where
the guys sit on their top ten team rankings and
who will be named the Uptown Chiefs game Players of
the week. It's the LMCU High School Football Preview Show
powered by Lake Michigan Credit Union. Now here are your hosts,
Brett Bakita and Jason Hutton.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Oh it's getting good now Jason Hutton.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Week six of the LMCU High School Football Preview Show,
brought to you each and every Thursday night by our
friends at Lake Michigan Crediting through the regular season, through
the first couple weeks of the playoffs, and Man we
having fun with the division and conference races starting to
take shape. Our top ten is all over the place,
and I'm just loving matchups that we normally don't see
and we now see, maybe even in division play. Like

(01:12):
I had an our game of the week Forstchill Central
at South Christian.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
That was a lot of fun, Partner.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Yeah, you know, you just don't know what you're gonna
get in that, okay, gold because there's so many good teams,
I mean really, I mean Zealand East I think is
way under the radar here. What they were six nothing
with Zealand last in week four and a half. So
there's five really quality teams there and at any given
Friday night, anybody can win. But at this point, I
don't know if anybody can sloat on Unity Christian because
so far nobody has.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
And tell me, you were not happy because we used
to battle trying to do the TV coverage on the
radio coverage. You got to do Mona Shores at Muskegan
at Hackley Stadium, but I couldn't stop. It didn't matter
where I was. You and Tom Kender were having fun.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Yeah, TK and I had that conversation last Friday night.
I said, he used to drive me crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Brett.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Brett would say, well, I'm as keymore Shorts, I'm gonna
have my Lake Short crew do that game, and it
would drive me crazy. From a television standpoint, it's the
best game in the state. Like, I can't do a
TV show with that game interviewing area and not have
it as the game of the week. So they used
to drive me crazy. I guess it wouldn't technically count
as the biggest game in the state last week because
Muskegan's had, you know, a couple losses early on. But
I'll tell you what, it was two really good football teams. Like,

(02:14):
don't buy into the Miskeigan being one to three for
one second. I think Miskegan's a pretty good football team.
I really do. And you know, that was a one
score game several different times throughout the second half. The
lights even went out. But Mona Shores is really impressive
to me. They're clearly the best team in the area.
Five and oh five good wins at this point. So yeah,
it was a lot of fun to call a game
at Hacker. It was a great night. It had a
ton of fun.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Feel pretty good about that call that it was the
lake Shore Game of the Week. You had fun. That's
why we make it the lake Shore Game of the Week.
It never disappoints. But we got to get into our
top ten rankings because I imagine yours are going to shuffle.
I've got a new note one to talk about. I've
got a new team in my top ten to talk about.
I'm excited about. So we will definitely do that coming
up along with our uptown cheapskate players of the Week.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
I don't even know how you put together at top
ten now. It's it's so difficult because.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Well, I do think that there's some teams that have
separated themselves at the top of the heap. And you
look at two of the unbeatens like Ammona Shores and
Unity Christian. I mean, how do you argue here's the
great thing? And I know you'll agree with me on this,
which is rare, but how do you disagree or even
make an argument with a five and oh team with
the teams that they've played so far.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Well for both those schools, But I don't agree because
I do not have Unity Christian number two. So we
can get into that now or we can get into
it later. But I don't have Union Christian umbers.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
Do you have?

Speaker 7 (03:30):
You?

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Utuy, Christians? Just tease me that four okay, four, we
have some work to do.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
And coming up with the coaches corner tonight, Dave Aberger
is going to join us from Holland Christian. His second
season at the Helm for the Maruons, but he's been
on the staff. He worked as a quarterbacks coach with
Chris Kuiperson. He's got an interesting background as far as
being a quarterback himself and an indoor football team over
in Saginaw.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Jay can't wait to talk to him and catch up.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And by the way, the Maroons five and zero after
their big victory of Reest Grand Rapids for the first
time since two thousand and nine.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
And we'll get into this when we get coach on
the phone. But you know what I love to say,
year two of a head coach, and he had been
in the program before, but still he's changed some things right,
and there are things you learn and adjust to with
a new head coach. And so year two and Holland
Christians often running, you know, maybe a little bit of
a slow start, but they're a team that appears to
be getting better week by week.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
And by the way, his quarterbacks coach doing pretty good right.
Eli Boyce, who's going on to play at Hillsdale, was
great last year for him. Evan his son, was the
backup quarterback and now he's coming first year starting university.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
He's lighting it up right now.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
For them, left handed, and he's got some weapons to
get the ball to. Simon Groton, Heist, Josh Bruxford, des Mayered.
I mean, they've got some good, good guys and Gabe
can Faras also at standing tight end.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Now, let's announce our Lake Shore Game of the Week
change for this week and also for next week. Now
we have the ability to do this, we kind of
set our schedules through week seven, obviously to be announced
for week eight to nine. Those are coming up later
in the season, but we'll announce him here on the
show is well when we have those set up, but
we kind of wait and see what happens, and we
tell the teams that, you know, depending on how it

(05:06):
goes and so forth. Because we set these schedules in
May that things might change. You guys are changing out
the Lakeshore Game of the week this Friday night is
going to be Holland Christian unbeaten coming in to Cougar
Stadium and take on Grand Up. It's Catholic Central and
what should be a great okay Black Conference.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
Yes, okay Black. He got three teams tied for first
place all two and oh two weeks in the conference
play because you have Northview sitting there too, and oh
so all these teams have to play each other the
next three weeks. So it's going to be fascinating. And
it starts tomorrow night at the cat What a great
setting for a really big football game. And undefeated Holland
Christian and we know Todd Kulsher is going to have
his team right to play.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
And you have a change in week seven. You guys
are going to West Michigan Conference.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
That's right, so it to be the West Michigan Conference.
Rivers Division, North Michigan sitting alone in first place. They
will host Ravenna. Of course, that's been the matchup since
kind of decided that division title since the split a
couple of years ago. Mason County Central just knocked off
the Bulldogs last week though, so they both have a
division and loss at this point. Revena playing for what
they can hope to be a three way tie if
they can somehow find a way to win at Fred Jacksfield.

(06:06):
But I'll tell you what, The Norsemen are clicking on
all cylinders right now.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
That's why I want to tell you always check out
besides our podcast being there, our sponsors being there, everything else.
The Trinity Health Michigan High School sports pages available at
one oh seven mus dot com, Wood Radio dot com
and nine six Won the Game dot com. Because any
changes in schedule, we will have them there. So those
are two coming up for the Lakeshore Game of the week.
We're going to stay with our set schedule so far

(06:31):
through week seven. We have, of course coming up this
Friday night, myself in buck Gino in the Oka Red
and obviously it's changed a little bit Rockford back to
back losses, but Rockford going to Cali. Do I need
to take on Derek Pennington's fighting Scott's And then in
week seven I'm really looking forward to this matchup as well,
speaking of could decide the division in the new look
ok White, We've got West Catholic at Forest Hills Eastern

(06:55):
and boy, the Hawks got by Hamilton last week. West
Catholic has head kind of some Iffy Games. Spring Lake,
I know was very close and an easier time with
Grand appets Christian, But I don't know what to think
in that matchup coming up in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
We'll see how it plays out again this week well.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
And you know, the matchups, in my opinion, aren't great.
Tomorrow night, a week from tomorrow, Week seven, I think
it's loaded with great games. You've got the Forest's Eastern
West Catholic game, which is really good. That You're going
to have South Christian Unity, Christian Grand Rap, It's Catholic
Central North View. I mean, there's some really good matchups
in week seven.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
All Right, we're gonna get into more of these two
with the four pack and stuff and talk about games
that we like besides our games of the week this
week with Buck Gino and Tom Kender. But let's start
with your game real quick. Your thoughts on Mona Shores,
this version of them, the Matt Coziak another big win
on the road for them. They've won four of their
five games on the road, but this one never easy
at Hackley Stadium.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
Well, just their ability to do what it takes to win.
You know, they've run the football between the tackles physical
with both Jonathan Stewart and Tomorrow and Stewart ike Sewart.
They did not do that last Friday night. They won
the football games throwing it Jonathan Pittman outstanding pinpoint accuracy, ding,
Mikah Karrafell and Cara Fill had a huge game at
seven catches, one hundred and sixty eight yards three touchdowns.

(08:05):
He also threw a touchdown pass in the first play
from scrimmage to George Duggans for a score. So just
impressed with Monashors versatility and I just again, I think
they're the best team in the area.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
All right, and as far as our game, thoroughly impressed
Dave FOURTEENO and for Still Central, what a job by
his staff and the kids to bounce back after they
got thumped pretty good by Unity Christiard. Right now, you've
got Carson VISs coming to your place in South Christian.
They're unbeaten three interceptions by that FHC defense, and they
threw the football like crazy. Nick Williams had five touchdown

(08:37):
passes through four games coming in for the season. He
threw five last Friday night for Still Central wins going
away thirty four to thirteen.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
Yeah, I know, Tim Rodgers isn't the coach of forstil
Central anymore, but that guy knows football. And I remember
last year when you and I were out there preseason
and he said Nick Williams is going to be our
JV quarterback. He goes, but watch out for this guy,
like he can throw the football, and that's playing out.
He's a junior and have a great year.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
And they had a lot of guys step up. I mean,
obviously Brendan Cargill stepped up. I think he had six
sketches over one hundred and fifty yards, a couple of touchdowns,
Ty Ryan. They had some big I and t's those
guys going both ways. So congratulation to Forest Hill Central.
They've got a whale of a game coming up with
Zealand West, who's now licking their wounds after losing Tunity
Christian like the Rangers did two weeks ago, so that

(09:21):
might be the battle kind of for second place. We'll
see or if Unity Christian slips up because they still
have South Christian left, which is a big rivalry game
and that very deep.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
Okay gold, yeah, but you Unity Christian already wins of
Ver Zealand lost and Forest hil Central. That's big time.
But yeah, South Christian next week, and it's never easy
in the Gold. I'm telling you, Zealandies do not sleep
on the chicks.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Let's go to the ram Country and what's going on.
We've got Rockford at Caledonia's our game of the week.
But Rockford back to back losses in the Okay Red,
It's unheard of. And yet they lose to Jennison at Homes,
spoiling their homecoming fifteen to fourteen.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
J Well, remember Rockford has not played a football game
a week after a loss with this coaching staf right
since Brent Cummings and this crew came in there. Their
only losses have been in the playoffs end of the
season and then they had nine months off before they
played another game. So last Friday night they played a
game right after a loss which they had not been
in and they lose to Jennison. I think we have

(10:14):
to give a lot of credit to Josh Lucas and
the job he's doing with the Wildcats because they went
to Kalamazoo Central one week one. Did you know the
Maroon Giants have not lost since right, they did lose
the Hudsonville but look what Hudsonville's doing at this point.
They lost to forestls NORM. I think FORCELSRN was a
really good team. So I think Jennison's getting better.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Grandville very tough last week.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
Yeah, I think Jennison's getting better every week. I think
that Rockford gonna have to find a way to deal
with adversity here because they go to Caledonia this week.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Ram's battling some injuries, but they're just not firing on
all cylinders. And I don't think it's injury based. I
think offensively, they're just not clicking like we've seen them
put up points, which obviously helps your defense if you
can do that. I mean, only scoring fourteen points against Jennison,
Rockford's got to get it right because you know what,
Caledonia will score points.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Yeah, and of course seven of those fourteen came out
of pick six offensively scored one touchdown.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
How about Hudsonville and East Kent with that was kind
of the matchup we were looking at in the OK
Red and Hudsonville answers it with Flying Colors. The Eagles
are the team to beat right now in the OKA Red.
If you aren't convinced of that, thirty five to six
over East Kent when it was playing well should convince
you right, no question.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
I mean, anybody that wasn't a believer in Hudsonville after
their win over Rockford has to be now they've won
four in a row. Their only loss was in week
one without Ethan Carter to a Howell team that's five
and zero. Their home against grand Haven this week. They've
done very well against grand Haven over the recent history.
Grand Haven is much improved. But you know who loves
this very quietly, Tank Terry Eric Stiegel and the Grandville

(11:40):
Bulldogs because they had lost to Rockford. But now they're
controlling everything because they will host Hudsonville. I didn't mention
that in our Week seven matchups. How about Grandville at Hudsonville.
Grandville has done very well against Hudsonville in recent restrict
the Bulldogs. Can you win this week and then get
to next week and find a way to beat Hudsonville.
They're back in first place.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
A couple of the games I wanted to highlight for
different reasons real quick before we end this segment. Nor
Few Roles Overn Middeville seventy two to fifty four, but
with that victory the Wildcats five and zero for the
first time since nine seventy seventy.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Seven, Jay, unbelievable. I wasn't even born.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
And then another big game that had and obviously he's
going to be with us for the coaches going to
their head coach of the Maroons. How about Howland Christian
five and oh for the first time, as I mentioned earlier,
since two thousand and nine, but twenty one to twenty.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
They went over.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
East Grand Rapids at home a lot of momentum, and
I give Bunk Gino credit. He looked at their schedule
and said, you know what, they get a break here there,
just like Norfiew. They could be interesting going into the
latter part of the season with Catholic Central down the road.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
But five and oh for the Maroons.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Well, and we talked about Aberger and their weapons, but
they've been really good on defense this year. You know,
defensively they are really sound with Kenfara and Misty and
those guys at linebacker. I think that Holland Christian defensively
has given them chances in this game, and they'll be
tested against a young Cougar offense this week.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Speaking of that, Dave Adberger gonna join us in the
Coaches Corner, brought to you by Montel Construction. We'll do
that next here on this week sixth edition of the
LMSU High School Football Preview Show. Stay with us, you're
on ninety six one to the game. Well, Jay and
I love talking to high school coaches around the area.

(13:20):
That's why we have the Coaches Corner segment each and
every week hereund the High School Football Preview Show on
ninety six to one the game. It's brought to you
by our friends at Montel Construction. If you need anything
done with the exterar of your home, there's still time
before winner roofing, windows, siding. Find out more at Montel
Construction dot com. That's Montelconstruction dot com. Dave Adberger is
our guest in his second year at the Helm at

(13:41):
Holland Christian And if you missed it last week, the
Maroons hang on for a victory at home over East
Grand Rapids twenty one to twenty. They are five and
zero for the first time since two thousand and nine. Congratulations,
coach has got to be Maroon Many over there on.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
The Lake shore it is.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
We're really enjoying it right now and it's spent quite
a year. We're early product kids and the school support
has been just off the charts this year force as well.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Hey coach, congrats on the great season. Before we get
into this year's team, I just want to ask you
about you know, over the years we've seen you know,
used to be every football coach was a high school teacher,
right they were in the building, and then that's kind
of changed over the years now where you know, people
from all walks of life are coaching football and it's
just very interesting to see me you as a pastor.

(14:25):
How does that go hand in hand with you coaching
varsity football team and still, you know, being a leader.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Of a church.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
Yeah, that's a good question. I appreciate that two things. One,
it puts me in the community and lets me be
able to be in the front line.

Speaker 8 (14:38):
I think one of the.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
Dangers of ministry is that you live under the shadows
people so long that you're not able to see all
and feel all that people are going through on a
daily basis. And now that pastors don't work, because they do.
But this puts me with the people in the community
every day. I'm with the kids, every day, I'm meeting
with families and what I've been trained to do as
a pastor I get to put in practice Monday to

(14:59):
Friday as well.

Speaker 8 (15:00):
In the community.

Speaker 7 (15:01):
And to be honest, I wouldn't be able to do
it without a great support staff here at our church
and a great support staff at the school as well
with our other assistant coaches.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
And you talk about it.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
You were kind of sharing with this off the air,
But this is something I'm always curious about this when
people have that aha moment in life of oh, this
is what I want to do. You had this as
a high school football player.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
You're sharing with it. So very cool to see it
play out now.

Speaker 8 (15:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
Yeah. When I was at high school, I was my
senior year playing sports and loved sports and went to
a Christian camp and really felt a strong call in
my life that I was supposed to follow the Lord
and in the ministry, and I didn't.

Speaker 8 (15:41):
Know what that looked like.

Speaker 7 (15:42):
My dad as a pastor, And of course people were like, oh,
you cause your dad's making you or here this is
the next step.

Speaker 8 (15:47):
For your life.

Speaker 7 (15:47):
And it wasn't any of those things. It was just
genuinely I felt this sense in my life that this
is what I'm supposed to do, and wanted to work
with students and wanted to help people, and it's just
become more clear along the way. And God's a lot
of these two paths of one. I think my physical gifting,
my passion, and then you know, my heart for people.
They walk side by side and so get to walk

(16:09):
down every day.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
Great stuff. Coach Dave Aberger is our guest on the
Coach's Corner his Holland Christian Maroons five and oh big
game the Okay Black coming up tomorrow night when they
take on Brian Rapids Catholic Central Coach. Let's just talk
about year number two as the head coach. You'd been
involved in the program. But what is the difference from
year one to year two, just with comfortability for the
kids and everybody here from last year to this year

(16:31):
for you.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Guys, Yeah, I think it's buy in. I think I
think there is the first year. You know, the kids
kind of look at you like. The way that I
coach is different. I'm not an insider to the school.
I didn't I didn't grow up at Holland Christian.

Speaker 8 (16:43):
I didn't go.

Speaker 7 (16:44):
To one of the I didn't go to Unity South
Holland Christian. You know those kind of the schools growing
up as Christian, so I'm kind of an outsider, so
they weren't sure who I was, and so they weren't
quite as similar, even though I knew the faces and
the names of the kids from being involved. So but
one of the things that that's been huge is our coaches.
We've all tried to pull them the same end of

(17:04):
the rope and we've tried to take a few core
values and say, hey, let's let's live and die on
these hills and let's make sure that the kids get anything.
They get these two things, and they have bought in,
and we've seen changes in the weight room, we've seen
changes in practice, we've changed seen changes in the classroom.
And that's been the biggest, i think palatable change that
we've been able to experience the last couple of years.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
And boy, for a quarterbacks coach taking over as head coach,
you've had some great talent to work with. It is,
of course Kirk Cousins high but you weren't there at
that time. But you look at you look at Eli
boy You look at Eli Boyce and he's going on
and now playing in college and then you're saw Evan,
who was his backup steps in and the South Paul
has played fantastic for.

Speaker 7 (17:45):
You guys, Yeah, yeah, thank you. It has been It's
been a great opportunity to work with the quarterbacks here
and Eli was a great quarterback and just ian, he
and Evan play so differently. Eli has six six '
four and kind of a long, lean athlete. Evan is
about five ten five eleven uh in the South pawt

(18:06):
and so just there's a difference in stall of play
and trying to figure out how do we tailor the
offense to their gifts, how do we how do we
how do we keep our DNA as an offense and
then and then continue with those guys be great and
it's it's been a lot of fun to watch see
how our our football team has played differently. Our receivers
are a bit different this year when they were last year,
and so you got to you gotta kind of make

(18:27):
things work around the kids that you have and and they've.

Speaker 8 (18:30):
Done a great job of uh really growing.

Speaker 7 (18:33):
Evan and and Eli are are different. Eli was very
very decisive, he'd make us right at times and had
a great arm. Evan is very instinctual. He throws in
the run very well. Us He's not afraid to try
to take a chance and fit balls. Our one of
our coaches last year said he doesn't have a conscience
when it comes to filling the ball, because he'll be

(18:54):
in practice and he'll try to fit a ball and
take a shot and he'll throw a pick and turn
around like nothing happened, and like, you know what you.

Speaker 8 (19:01):
Just did, And he's like, yeah, but somebody does.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
Had to figure if I could do it or not.
And that's kind of his mindset.

Speaker 8 (19:06):
And so he.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
Plays with a little bit of that swagger and we
were excited to see.

Speaker 8 (19:13):
Him play every week.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Coach.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
You know, I always like to get coaches thoughts on
this because some have differing opinions. But you guys are
five and oh this year, you're actually on a six
game winning streak because you finished the regular season last
year with a win against Unity Christian and it had
been a few years since you had beaten your rival.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yeah, Unity Christian and.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
We're one of nine against them.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
Yeah, how do you feel like there was some momentum
created in that game that you've been able to carry over?

Speaker 8 (19:36):
We really do, We really do.

Speaker 7 (19:38):
That game against Unity last year was a pivotal moment
for a program. That was the one game that we
felt I think our school felt like we just couldn't win.
Unity plays an incredible brain to football, and the course
of that flat team, you just have to scheme up
differently for it, and you have to almost intall a
new defense, and so that had been a unique challenge
for us, and mentally going in, our seniors were locked
into that that was the one that they had circled

(19:59):
and everything was aligning right towards the end of the year.
We were playing with great confidence and to win that
game and then not make the playoffs was disappointing. But
our guys for this year really said, hey, let's not
let's not let the work ethic change, let's not let
the standard change. And that has been a source of
confidence for our guys. The last few years our school has.

(20:23):
We had a short lifter. COVID had kind of had
a bubble year of kids regarding numbers and even some talent.

Speaker 8 (20:28):
We had talented kids in the program.

Speaker 7 (20:30):
But we didn't have enough of them to really do
what HC had done for a long time, and so
we were everybody's homecoming for for a number of years
and we were the underdogs and we've we've really embraced
that underdog mentality. I think every coach that I know
is pretty petty. As much as we talk about not
being petty, every great coach is really petty. And I

(20:51):
have a staff full of petty coaches, and so it
doesn't take much for us to put a chip on
our shoulder. And the kids have really adopted that as well.
And we went from being underdogs too. I think now
just before you call, when our coach was talking to
me about some Texteos getting from our team captains and
they're going from being underdogs to just having that dog
mentality where they don't they don't have to be the

(21:12):
biggest in the game, they don't have to be the strongest,
but they just want to bite hard every chance that
they get. And we're really proud of the kids.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Well, we're making it the Lake Shore Game of the
Week because I told you, coach, And now you think
Unity Christian is a big rival and a tough matchup,
what are you thinking of the Catholic Central Cougars after
you've seen them on film prepping for them?

Speaker 7 (21:32):
Yeah, they're a blue blood team. They're just really good
and they've got years and years have been great. They've
got great players, they've got a great staff. Schematically, they
do some really good things offensively, and you've got to
play all fifty three yards of the football field and
that's gonna be a unique challenge for us defensively. I mean,

(21:52):
they're really good up front. They've got fast, skilled guys
that can cover up a lot of ground in the outside.
And so we're about the opportunity. We're trying to, you know,
look for some ways that we can create some mismatches
on film, and we don't know a lot about them.
And that was the thing with EGR last week, is
we didn't know them. We'd seen them play, we'd seen
them in the news, we've seen them playing in November.

Speaker 8 (22:14):
And won the opportunity. And you really can't.

Speaker 7 (22:17):
Measure yourself as a program until you play, you know,
the biggest kids in the block, and that's certainly them.

Speaker 5 (22:22):
Coach, I want to ask you about your defense. I
believe correct me if I'm wrong. You have a first
year defensive coordinator in Nate Elzinga, and what I've seen
so far this season, it looks like you guys are
playing really well on that side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
What have you seen?

Speaker 8 (22:33):
Yeah, we are. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (22:34):
Nate Elsinga comes from Derek Pennington's coaching tree, and I
got to be with Derek from my first year here
as well. And you know, you know Derek. He's at Caledonia.
He's he's tough as nails, and Nate has that mentality
and he was he was with Forwards doing us for
a while as well, and he comes in very prepared
every day. He lives and dies with a script and

(22:57):
he just is so organized with our kids. He wants
me to play under control, he wants him to play fast,
he wants them to.

Speaker 8 (23:02):
Play confident, and does a great job.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
Communicating that to them. And so I couldn't ask for
it for any more from him. He's been a great addition.
I feel like he's been there all along. He's a
great fit with our staff and culturally, those those are
big things, those are things that matter, and so I'm
so proud of him and thankful for him as well.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
David, it was a pleasure to finally get to talk
to you from both of our standpoints, and the Holland
Christian program as rolling right now. We have a lot
of fans over there. We're excited about having you guys
this game of the week. Best of luck on Friday night.

Speaker 7 (23:33):
Hey appreciate both of you guys. Thanks for taking the
time and thanks for highlighting high school football and West Michigan.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
He is Holland Christian ed football coach there five and
oh Dave Adberger joining us on the Montel Construction coaches corner.
We'll take a short time out. We'll come back with
more as you're listening to this week six edition of
the LMCU High School Football Preview Show exclusively here on
Naughty six to one.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
The game.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Down Now for the Week six four, we bring in
Tom Kendra, We bring in Buck Gino. Jason Hutt has
already had studio with me and gentlemen, here we go.
We got four different games than our games of the week.
Remember we switched for the Lake Shore game of the week.
It's Holland Christian at GRENAPPITTSKTHLIC Central. Jason and Tom will
be on the call six o'clock Friday night from Couger Stadium.
Buck and I are staying with the OK Red rivalry

(24:18):
Rockford at Caledonia again six o'clock with our coverage. Rick
Burkey will be your studio host back and thanks again
to Bob Sackey did a great job last week. Gentlemen
and Tom Kendra, we start with you.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
Where we headed, Well, we're headed to Lowell ken Ola
Hills at Lowell. You look at these two teams, they
both had huge wins last week. They both knocked off
four and OH teams in very impressive fashion. Starting off
with Lowell, the Red Arrows this season, they had four
home games. Last week was their first road game. And
what do they do. They go out to Cedar Springs

(24:50):
and get a huge twenty eight to fourteen wins. How
about the defensive effort for US Jacob Penegy's team. They
forced Cedar Springs to throw eight passes as we know,
you know, eight passes for Cedars Springs that might take
him half the season. But one of those was a
Casey Engele, the senior linebacker for Lowell, picks off a pass,
takes it seventy four yards to the house. And you know,

(25:14):
this Lowell team at three and two, if they can
get another win this week, looking at possibly getting back
in the playoffs. I got to mention on the Red
Arrows Casey Angele. He's one of their star wrestlers. You know,
this is one of the great streaks, I think in
the state, eleven straight Division two team wrestling titles for Lowell.

(25:34):
So those are some tough kids over there. You switch
it over to Kenowa Hills. You know, they picked up
a thirty four to thirty win over Battle Creek Harper Creek,
which was four and o coming in. Harper Creek went
up fourteen to nothing in that game, but the Knights
came back. This is a pretty good Kenoa Hills team
which could be scary good over the next couple of years.

(25:55):
Very young, and I'm speaking specifically about a couple of
great sawce more is their quarterback Grayson Fellows at one
hundred and eighty three yards two touchdown passes in that win.
And then how about the sophomore running back London Hampton
one hundred and forty yards three touchdown runs. This is
an up and coming Kenawa Hills team under Don Fellows,

(26:17):
and I think it's a great matchup here in the
River City's Alliance. You got in that division seven schools,
six of them are D three schools. The only D
four school is Allendale, So watch for some of these
RCA teams getting in the playoffs in Division three, and
I think the winner of this game on Friday really

(26:38):
is in the driver's seat to make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Buck, do you know your thoughts?

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Yeah, I mean what Tom said about how Will has played.
Obviously a couple of big winning the last couple weeks.
For them and winnip Seed to win at that environment,
it's never an easy task. Gusk Folk does have a
young team still but impressive so far so that he
based out of their first loss in.

Speaker 8 (27:00):
The regular season.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
And then you look at Kenowa Hills or with the
new coach down Fellows. Obviously your people didn't know kind
of what to expect out of Kenna Hills, not only
because of a new coach but also a new conference,
and so far they haven't disappointed either side. Both teams
are driven by one side of the ball. At Kenoll
Hills does a great job offensively in the role I

(27:22):
think defensively for them, they have been pretty impressive. I
think the most points they've given up is the thirty
five to Coopers Bill in Week three that they lost
that game. So I think, you know, for looking at this,
this is two teams that contrasting styles role you know,
back from when Noel Beingaland's coach. Now I'll do you,
Jacob Peigy. They love those rough players. They love the tough,

(27:45):
smashing moun stuff, and that's what they're doing best this year.
And then you have Kenowa Hill, who you know, they
do like to run the football, but with great and
fellows they can throw that ball around a little bit.
And you just have to wonder as far as pass
defense all playing against another team that likes to pass.
The only other team that they've played that really like
to do that. They've played these Great Rapids, they lost

(28:07):
to that team. They played Coopersville, they lost to that team.
So can Kenwall get it going in the air, because
if they can, that's where the Lowell's weakness has been
so far out in the season. And that they can
get it going in the air, that could be trouble
for the Red Arrows. But boy, this is just another
really good game in that River City. The Lion pretty
tight so far.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
Well, it's just a matchup that we haven't seen a
ton over the years. And we got two schools very
similar in enrollment, very just similar schools that haven't played
a lot over the years. Of course, you had the
glory days of Lowell where they were nobody really wanted
to play them, right, So we haven't seen this matchup
a lot of River City's Alliance brings them together again,
and you look at it, it's kind of a conference
eliminator because you've got Coopersville the loan, unbeaten, sitting the

(28:48):
loan at first, Lowell and Kenawall Hills each have one loss.
Somebody is going to get their second loss and pretty
much be out of the conference race. Just trying to
find a way in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
I think Don's done a great job kind of making
a mark, and obviously the River City's Alliance helped him
as far as their schedule. I think with this conference
they could be competitive in this conference, so that helps.
But you know, he's playing in this situation with a
young football team. Like Tom mentioned, just cut it loose,
and he likes to do that anyways, and so I
see Kennwill Hills taking chances, trying to throw the ball deep.

(29:15):
But I think in the end, the physicality of Lowell
in this game will prove to be the difference. And
you know, like Buck and Tom and you've alluded to Jason.
I mean they've played different styles. They played Cedar Springs
and one they played Coopersville, they played the scud happens.
Even though they lost those games, it'll prepare them for
this game. I think they'll be ready for the air
game of fellows and companies. So good matchup there, Tom,

(29:37):
Let's go to buck Geno next. What do you got
buck Well?

Speaker 4 (29:39):
I'm gonna stick with the old favorites, my hometown team. First,
Hill's Northern. They take on the number one almost on
disputed number one team here, and that's more on a
Shores and an Okay Green matchup we all know, especially
Tom and Jay with Marris Spirts thing to do last
week against Muskegan, and I think Forest Hills Northern kind
of flying under the radar a little bit simply because

(30:01):
they're playing in the conference with three marquee names, two
of those I just mentioned also by Ron Center. But
they've been competitive in every game. They were with the
Skei game for almost entire four quarters. They kind of
had a bad fourth quarter and gave up a couple
of points and lost that game. I ended up by nineteen,
but I think that game was closer than the score
indicated and then you know they come in and now

(30:23):
against the game against Monash Mona Shore is boy.

Speaker 7 (30:26):
The schedule for them.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
The first five games had just been brutal. But they've
come through at five and oho. I mean they've beaten
Byron Finery, They've beaten the Smith's Vegan, they beat River Rouge,
flint Hambity Grand Blank, like all these teams are.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
Playing and now there's not really a.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Letup because if they try to take their foot off
the gas. This is the Fourtils Northern team that offensively
can really bite you. Addie doing a great job at Northern.
He's got his son the sophomore quarterback on and his
son playing wide receiver with a senior and they've had
some pretty dynamic numbers. But the defensively they've had their struggles.

(31:03):
So I look to see this Promona shores of this test.
Can they do it week and in the week out.
We talked about that with South Christian in forest Hill
Central last week at our Game of the Week. They're
eighteen year old kids. Man, Sometimes they just kind of
the minds wandered and you wonder if that's going to
be the game that happens this Friday.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
I'm physically holding hutting back in the studio. Tom Kendro,
I'm going to let you have first crack at this one.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
Yeah. I think Mona Shores have to be careful this
week because, like Buck said, they've had the three long
road trips to start the season and then back to
back emotional games against Byron Center and then the Skeigan.
But they're going to have to be up for this
game because forstill, Northern is very good. I mean, you
look at the Huskies. How good is that twenty eight
to six wins at Jennison in week two? Looking right now,

(31:46):
especially with the way Jennison is playing, something tells me
that the Huskies are going to pick off one of
the big three in the ok Green. They took the
Skegan down to the wire, and they have this game
against Mona Shores and Byron Center next week. Who knows,
maybe it'll be this week. Last week at Reez Puffer,
they did not throw a pass and they also did

(32:06):
not have a turnover. Just a really powerful performance against
Reese Buffer Colton Sawyer at one hundred and fifty four
yards and four rushing cutchdowns in that one. It's a
classic game where Forest Hield's Northern is going to be
emotional and Mona Shores might have a letdown. If that's
the case, this could be an upset.

Speaker 5 (32:25):
Forest's Northern is a playoff team. That's my personal opinion.
I think they are a playoff team. I think they're
really good. I think they're underrated. The problem is the schedule.
They're three and two at Mona Shores this week, then
home for Byron Center. As Buck mentioned, probably underdogs in
those two games. Doesn't mean they can't win them, but
they're underdogs. They have Union in Week eight where they'll
be a heavy favorite, and then week nine Northew. Northew

(32:45):
is five and oh. I think that's going to be
a huge football game. If things play out like many
of us think, Force's Northern could be four and four
going into that Northview game and needing it to get
into the playoffs. Of course, that's an old rivalry, so
this is fascinating. I think I think Forest Zone is
really good. I think Colton's Lawyers having a great year
running the football, and it's strength for strength because Mona
Shors is TK and I just saw last week they
are really good against the run.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
The Ashnock Bowl coming up for Hills Northern, besides being
obviously geographically border war and the rivalry like you mentioned
with the old Okay White, that's.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Gonna be a good one.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
I look at this one and not that Mona Shors
is going to have a letdown at all. Forestills Northern
is for real and they've scored points. I've watched it now.
Buck you look at that Forest Hills Central loss that
came with a late field goal. How good does that
look after what we saw with the Rangers and you
mentioned they were toe to toe twenty eight twenty eight
with Muskegan. I just think that Mona Shores is the
real deal. I think Mona Shors will win this game.

(33:38):
Forestills Northern might push them a little bit, but Mona
Shores is just whatever they need to do. It seems
like they find the dynamic to do it to beat
their team. And I love their physical edge. I think
this year more than they've had in years past. With
coach Koziak, all right, from there we go next to
Jason Hutton. You're gonna take us somewhere we haven't been before.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
That's right, We're going to the Central States. White as
it's now known formerly known as the Silver and this
changes because the small realignment, Central mont Com comes down
from the Big School Division to the Small School Division.
So instead of the Golden Silver, now the other d
in the way. So it's Central malk Kama Kent City
and this is going to determine the conference champion in
that division. And let's be honest, Eagles have absolutely dominated

(34:19):
this division in the Central State, so they won six
to the last eight league titles, one of the year's
twenty twenty one. The only reason they didn't win it
is because they had to have a COVID forfeiture. So
in games actually played on the field, Kent City has
won twenty nine of their last thirty in division play.
But they've never played Central malt Com in a divisional
game because they had always been a crossover to the
CSAA goal. And there've been some good matchups. Two years

(34:40):
ago they played early in the season twenty eight twenty seven.
Kn't City beat Central malt Com last year as well.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
But I'll tell you what.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
The Hornets are playing really well with emmett Linghaman at
quarterback and they went down to Berry and Springs and
got a nice win last week so I think this
is going to be a good matchup and it's got
a lot on the line. When you're talking about determined
conference champion DK you're up next.

Speaker 6 (34:58):
Yeah, looking at this game, you know these two teams,
Central Montcalm and Kent City, they're the only the only
two Division six schools in that CCAA White Division. So
you know this could be a potential round one of
a second game in a playoff. Central Montcalm they've won
three in a row last week, three rushing touchdowns by
McCoy Wernholm. But like Jay said, Kent City, they've been

(35:21):
the team and they're coming off a loss last week
against Try County, playing at home. I think they have
maybe a better, bigger sense of urgency here. Their quarterback
Andre Mead last week he had two rushing touchdowns in
that loss at Try County. A lot of pride with
the Eagles. I look for them to bounce back this week.

(35:42):
I was impressed with them big win a few weeks.
They're going against Sravanna and I look for Kent City
to pull this one out.

Speaker 4 (35:50):
Buck Tito, Well, you look at Kent City and when
Bill Crane was there, they just really grew into one
of the premier small school programs that just side of
the state and Division six. And the tough thing for
them is they've always kind of come against a juggernaut,
you know, whether it be a certain team on one
side of the bracket, but they just seem to not

(36:11):
be able to find a way past the district's round
and get into a regional or maybe even a semi
and then that group takes over and they kind of
try to continue that tradition. And they've only had two
losses this year, both to bigger schools in WeGo and
Try County. As Teak mentioned, this game at home for basically,
when a mounts to the conference championship, the last three

(36:31):
games in Kansas City schedule, they should be favored pretty heavily.
So you're looking at this game and you're thinking, boy,
if they can win this game the last three, I'm
not saying they're automatic wins, but let's say they win
all of those two. That makes them at seven and two,
that can get them a home playoff game.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
I'm going to styalt you with you, guys.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
I'm just literally going I covered Central Mount Calm back
in the day when I was up at CMU, we
used to cover them with Shepherd Carson City Lakeview.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
You remember those days, Jason.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
So I am going with Central Mont Calm to pull
off some type of upset here against Kent City compared
to what you guys.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
That's bold.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
I didn't think you were doing picks this year.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
I'm just saying, I like Central vulkof you're of the hornet,
all right, And now finally we'll end with my game quickly, guys,
Forest Hill Central at Zeeland West, after seeing Forest Hill
Central get up off the mat because they got humbled
by Unity Christian, let's be honest, two weeks ago forty
three to twenty. And you guys know they talk about
this in the NFL. They talk about in the college.
You don't hear as much at the high school level

(37:27):
is matchups. And what I mean by that is how
do you match up offensively and defensively, as you guys know,
against teams. Some teams are physical, some teams are finesse,
some teams have trouble with the wing tea well, Forest
still Central turn things around. And I look at it
with South Christian, what they faced and now having seen
Unity Christian, which is kind of like a mirror of
Zeeland West. I have a feeling Forestil Central is going

(37:50):
to be tough in this game. With that said, Tray slowtok,
what percent of health is he at? I know we
played quarterback. I know we didn't play on defense in
that game supposedly against Unity Christian. So where are they
at for Zeeland West if they're not complete on hundred percent?
From what I saw, Buck Gino would probably agree. Forestill
CeNSE was really impressive and Nick Williams I like him
at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
They made some plays. With that said, I'll start with
Tom Kendra.

Speaker 6 (38:13):
Yeah, the biggest score of last week that jumped out
at me was for a Still Central thirty four to
thirteen over South Christian. The Rangers did the seemingly impossible.
You know, they shut down Carson VISs. No one's been
able to bottle them up the way they did. And
you mentioned their junior quarterback, Nick Williams five touchdown passes

(38:33):
in that game really stole the show from Carson Visk
and so, but now here we go against a whole
different kind of challenge, a whole different type of offense
with Zeland West. You know, you got the first year
coach or a Still Central Dave Portino against the twenty
year veteran at Zeland West, John Chilito. I think it's
a great matchup. Both of these teams only have one loss,

(38:54):
both coming to Unity Christian. So you know that Okay Gold,
We've talked about it every week on this show. You
know what a loaded division, and it's just it's just difficult.
And we got some great teams and these are two
of them.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
Buck, I'm curious to see what you thought after what
we saw on Friday night with this matchup.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
Well, you talked about Unity and how dominant they were
against Forstall Central, I think Unity Christian is fully back
and we know what they can do when they're at
full strength. And for Soli Central, I mean, let's be honest,
they do not see a lot of teams that run
the tea when they've been playing in Division two now
Division three in the Okay White for many many years,

(39:33):
Like that's just not something that they've had to prepare for.
And now they have to do it twice in the
span of three weeks. And I think the first one,
I was saying com by a surprise because I knew
what was happening. But boy, I think they just struggled
with it and with the way that Unity Christian runs
it so well, and to the degree that they were
able to execute, I think that, like you said, they
got humbled. And then they came in against the South

(39:55):
Christian team where we thought that they were going to
have trouble matching up in some spots and they is
to absolutely surprise not only us but pretty much everybody
that was watching, not because they won, but just the
fashion that they were able to do so. And I
look at this game and I think, boy Tray Slohawk
is I'm not going to say he's one hundred percent,
He's left in it. Obviously he's not playing defense and

(40:16):
he's really trying to limit his exposure. So that's gonna
be a big key as well, because we look at
what Forso Central is able to do on defense against
South Christian. But Nick Williams five touchdown passes. Their offensive
attack was diverse and it was explosive, and Trip Gallery
did a great job mixing up things and really going

(40:37):
at the weaknesses that South Christian had. And now we're
going to find out in this week because Nick Williams
can throw five touchdown passes against South Christian if they
can get him rolling again. That's going to make it
real tough for Zealand Less without tray Loohak back there
playing safety because he's the ring leader not only of
that offense but also the defense.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
Well, I just think this game is going to happen again,
and I think everybody has that same thinking. So how
does that impact this game? Maybe it doesn't impact it
at all, but I expect we'll see these two teams
play again in the Division three postseason, and my thought
is these are the two best teams in the area
in Division three. Although Coopersville might have something to say
about it, but I just think it's a playoff preview.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
We'll take it. We'll take it again down the road. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
This four pack segment, thank you, gentlemen, being brought to
you by J and H's Family Stores with now sixty
plus locations across Michigan to serve you.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
J and H Family Stores.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
Stop in on the way to your next game or
on your way home back with more after this short
time out as you're listening to a Week six edition
of the LMCU High School Football preview show here on
ninety six to one, the game, Well, I want to
remind you third annual Touchdowns for Kids campaigns. Welcome back
to the high school football preview show, brought to you

(41:47):
each and every week by the Lake Michigan Credit Union.
We had a big week ten touchdowns for Muskegan and
Mona Shores in the Lake Shore Game of the Week,
and then we chipped in with another seven for South
Christian and Forest Hill Central. So seventeen touchdowns equals eight
hundred and fifty dollars for our weekly total, and that
pushes our season total jay to thirty seven hundred and
fifty dollars. Fifty dollars donated for each touchdown score in

(42:09):
both of our games of the week. Thank you so
much to Lake Misigan Credit Union.

Speaker 5 (42:12):
You have ten touchdowns at our Lake Shore Game of
the Week last Friday night, mikeah Carafell was doing his
part for the kids.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
I love it and again, don't forget you can volunteer.
You can find out more go to kids food Basket
dot org one of our great sponsors. That's kids food
Basket dot Org. All right, uptown Cheapskate Players of the Week.
We're gonna mix things up. We're gonna go top ten rankings.
Last and let's start with the Grand Rapids area. I
gotta go with our quarterback and our player of the
game on Friday night from Forestieal Central. First time I've

(42:38):
seen him with my own eyes, junior quarterback Nick Williams.
Two hundred and sixty three yards passing five touchdowns, also
rush for fifty yards and that big thirty four to
thirteen win over Unbeaaten at the time South Christian.

Speaker 5 (42:50):
Yeah, Nick Williams, you're throwing that defense, and I'll tell
you what. He gives the Rangers a chance again this year,
because boy, you can do it on both sides of
the football and you beat a really good South Christian team.
They're riding high there for the Rangers and they're gonna
need this week when they play Zeeland. Will last honorable mention,
I'm gonna go Brody Betzer for cal don't another five
touchdowner formance and the win over West Ottawa. He has
twenty three touchdown passes this year. Remember the state record

(43:11):
is fifty six, So depending on how long of a
run Calderian can make, I mean he's got a shot
at some records here if he continues at this pace.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
I'm so excited to see him because I saw him
in training camp and we saw him last year. But
what a difference you see a lot of times, the
just physicality, the size of him, and the experience of
going from your junior to senior year as a starter.
So he'll have Rockford coming to town. Our game of
the week on ninety six, won the game on Friday night,
all right, Lake Shore player of the Week, brought to
you by Uptown Chiefs. Get they got the Holland location

(43:38):
as well. I'm going to go junior quarterback Bryce Colbert
from North Muskegan for the Norseman. Remember James Young transferring over.
So this kid comes in fresh off the JV right
and boom fifteen of eighteen, passing three hundred and four
yards four touchdowns in a forty two to six win
over Heart. They've won four straight.

Speaker 5 (44:00):
Yeah, the Norths have some really good receivers. And I'll
tell you what, Colbert's playing at a high level. North
of Skikings won four in a row and they are
just cruising. And how about for audible match, I don't
have imaginem going. Michah Carafell from Mona Shore seven catches
one hundred and sixty three yards three touchdown. Catches also
had a fifty two yard touchdown pass on a half
back pass to start the game. But the second touchdown
reception the one that made a twenty one to seven

(44:20):
the diving catch he made in the north end zone.
That was one of the best catches I've seen in
a long time.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
There's our Updown Cheapskate players of the Week and for
being honored on the show, they'll each get a twenty
five dollars gift card to go shopping Updown Cheapskate on
us with those three locations Kentwood, Granville and also Holland
for those along the Lake Shore. All right, top ten rankings,
I think you went first last week, so I will
go first this week and grab those real quick as
I do have a new number one team obviously because

(44:47):
Zealand West was my number one team. They go down
in defeat in that matchup. It was a great one
with Unity Christians. So this is what it looks like
for me going into Week six. Mona Shores at five
and ohs so impressed four of their five wins on
the road as they went at Miskeig in forty two
to twenty seven. Unity Christian is up to number two
for me. So impressed with their victory over Zealand the

(45:09):
West and they are five and zero. Remember this was
a three and six football team a year ago. Crectivity
A staff have a ton of phenomenal job I've got
Byron Center at three they beat Union for their homecoming
forty eight to six. Their four and to one Zealand
West drops to four for me from one last week.
And then I have Hudsonville run out my top five,
top team out of the ok Red easily winning over
East comp With thirty five to six to improve to

(45:31):
four and one, then six to two.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
Ten looks like this for me.

Speaker 3 (45:33):
Jay Catholic Central at four and one, no problem with
out it Wee Hills thirty five to nothing. Forest Hills
Central with that big win over South Christian at seven
at four and one. Rockford's still in my top ten,
but kind of just hanging there at number eight. They've
lost back to back games at three and two and
at Caledony this week. Then South Christie with a loss,
drops down to number nine at four to one, and

(45:54):
my new team in Northview, Ryan Aschnock and the Wildcats
at five and oh first time since nineth team seventy seven.
They put seventy two points up on the board last week.

Speaker 5 (46:03):
Normally I'd get all mad at you here and be like,
what are you doing? But I can't get too upset
because I don't know how you're supposed to do this
at this point with these top ten teams. So anyways,
I'll try to give it my best shot. But mine's
a little off the radar. Two So I have Mona
Shores with one. I had them there last week. Think
they're the best team in the area. I still Byron
Center too. I mean, I don't know how much of
a difference you can have, but they just played a
little over a week ago and it was two extra

(46:25):
points was the only difference. So to me, I don't
have to drop Byron Center because they were just this
much short of my number one team. I have Hudsonville
number three. I've just been so impressed with the Eagles
four straight wins. So then I come in with the
Uni Christian at number four. Then it got really tough.
I felt pretty good about the top four, and then
it got pretty tough for me. I went Zealand West
at five. The Ducks, with their first loss here last week.
Four still Central. I hadn't ranked them all year. I

(46:46):
bring them all the way up to number six. After
that impressive win over South Christian. I brought Northview into
number seven. Seventy two points. The Cats are five and
oh for the first time in forty seven years. Incredible.
And then I have South Christian at number eight.

Speaker 2 (46:57):
I have Grand up.

Speaker 5 (46:58):
It's Catholic Central number nine. You have a numb six.
They just haven't beaten a good team yet. That doesn't
mean they're not a good team.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Oh and they're coming Holland Christian, so.

Speaker 5 (47:06):
We'll find out about the Cougar's you're coming up. And
then I went Holland Christian at number ten. Call me
a hype machine, but I got two teams playing each
other in our game of the week in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
You weren't going to Hudsonville anytime soon, are you?

Speaker 3 (47:16):
I don't know why I have because you have Hudsonville
over Unity Christian and the Eagles have a loss.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
Yeah to Howell, Okay, I'm just driving. Oh, I'm just checking.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
I mean, Husville's got three times as many students all.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Those teams are. You know, they might call it the
salad City. And they played for a trophy in basketball.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
But when are we gonna get the football?

Speaker 6 (47:33):
Man?

Speaker 2 (47:33):
I think we're ready. Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (47:35):
You're saying Udie Christian would win if they play.

Speaker 3 (47:37):
Well, I'm just saying yeah. I mean I'm beaten. Compared
to one loss. I don't know how well that would
go over. Well, the schedules aren't even close. Like they
haven't played any similar teams. They play completely different schedules.
Like one loss of the haven't do anything. Okay, all right,
I'm just checking. You have to beat Rockford.

Speaker 2 (47:53):
No, but they're Division four too compared to Division one.

Speaker 5 (47:56):
Oh, I don't worry about that. If they played head
to head, who would win?

Speaker 2 (47:59):
That's how I ran. Okay, there you go, fair enough.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
And with that said, don't forget one quick change for
this week and also next week with our Lake Shore
games of the week. So we've got Holland Christian at
Grandappis Catholic Central. Jay and Tom will have the call
on that on the Moose Friday night, and then next
week it's Ravenna at North Muskegon in the West Michigan Conference.
We're staying the same This Friday night, Caledonia hosting Rockford

(48:22):
should be a lot of fun. Buck Geno and I'll
be out there with the call and Rick Burkey back
with us in studio for Jason. My name is Brett Pikita.
Thanks everyone involved with the show tonight. Hope you enjoyed it.
