Division one Boys Regional Final as Cam Carroll the nineteen
and six Bulldogs at Byron Center square off with Jovon
Daniels in the nineteen and five Eagles of Hudsonville. A
regional championship trophy on the line, but more importantly, a
trip to the Elite Eight in the quarterfinals next Tuesday night.

As I welcome in my partner Jason Hutton.

We were here on Tuesday night and watching Hudsonville have
an easy time.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Boy.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
They were knocking down threes, Joe Bondaniels leading away with
twenty three points as they took care of West Donnawa
easily in that one jay eighty six to forty seven.
And then the nightcap did not disappoint Byron's Center in
Northview and the Bulldogs pulled out late sixty to fifty
five despite their big Villa Camp Carroll falling out with
about two minutes left to go in that one.

Well, for Hudsonville, it's just kind of picking up where
they've left off because this entire tournament run, they're not
just winning, they're winning big. Twenty seven over Genis in
the district opener, twenty nine over Grandville in the district final,
thirty nine over West Ottawa in the regional semifinal.

And someone might want to.

Say, yeah, well those teams aren't the top tier of
teams in West Michigan, Okay, But still, I mean Hudsonville
is clicking on all cylinders.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
I don't think you can argue with that.

And for Byron Center won a game against Northview on Tuesday.
I mean, just two heavyweights going had to head. That
one was everything I think everybody I hope it would be.
There was a huge crowd here at Hudsonville field House,
a one point game in the final minute, and Byron
Center held them off. Keyan Hinko with that huge third
quarter stretch where he scored eleven straight Bulldog points and
Byron Center got it done. You know, they never won,
They hadn't won a district title in thirty years before

last week.

Who they are in the regional final. It's been a while,
and no one's better than Eric Kelly. Excuse me on that.
Of course, we call him mister District around here for
Hudsonville sixteenth season coaching at his alma mater, nine district
titles after they won just last week at the Grandville
District beating the Bulldogs in the finals, and they are
playing some great basketball and Jay, I'm so excited for
the matchups tonight. It doesn't get much better this. When

you look at the starting fives, both teams not very deep.
I would argue Hudsonville probably a little bit deeper on
their bench, maybe one or two extra players. Everyone shortens
their benches, you know, come tournament time.

But when you looking at ISAAC matching this game tonight,
the fieldhouse here at Hudsonville in their second season being opened,
seats about forty three hundred were expecting standing room only.

With Byron Center just down the road, they had fourth
h plus they estimated on Tuesday night for both games
for that regional semi final. Of course, let's tovill Westadawa

River Cities and Lions in there, there's only one conference
champion left standing?

South Christian goes down to Division two, Rockford goes down,
Northview goes down, all conference champions Muskegan of course losing
Rock for the district final out the only one left
the OK White champion Grand Rapids Catholic Central and they're
going to be in action tonight at ground Rafts Christian
to the regional final.

Against Sparta, who beat spring Lake.

Yeah, they call it March for a reason because it's
a single elimination tournament and anything can happen and does happen.
And we were shocked with Rockford going down on Tuesday.
We were shocked with South Christian going down on Tuesday.
But these things can happen. And I'll tell you what
defense is good to play this time of year the
way Granted it's Catholic Central Guards, it's elite and that's

why they're still standing big favorite tonight against Sparted. But
how about the Spartans sixth place or fifth place out
of the River City's Alliance.

It still dances and in Division two also down the
road in Battle Creek and Battle Creek Harper Creek tonight.

How about Howland christianali Oka Black They weren't.

The championship was Unity Christian seventeen to eight. The Maroons
taken on Marshall at nineteen and six. They had a
flu buck go through, but Titus Spencer saved the day
at a game high twenty nine points even though he
was sick, and there win on Tuesday night to get
to the regional final in Division three North Muskegon at
twenty three and one. You and I would love to
be at Kent City High School tonight seven o'clock typic
against Powama West.

History meeting last year in the regional semi finals, went overtime.

Then a Division four Miskegon Heights Academy taking on Fowler
seven o'clock the tip off for that one of Mount
Pleasant's Sacred Hard High School and try to christ to
the defending state champs and Mark Heeler's last year at
twenty three and two. They'll take on the Cavazoo Phoenix
at nineteen to four. But Jay for the first time
ever Trinny Christian hosting a regional.

Yeah, they got that beautiful new gymnasium. Why not?

And you know, big matchup for them if you talk
about conference champions, they are the Alliance League Conference champions
still standing. Looking to get back to the President Center
for a sixteenth or seventeenth or eighteenth time under the
direction of Mark Keeler. They go regularly, you know, kind
of looking ahead. They could play Fowler in a state quarterfinal.
Of course, Fowler playing the Skig in Heights tonight. What

a run it's been for the Tigers, but that potential.
Remember one of two Trainee's two season losses this year
came to Fowler at home way back in December.

you see this one when it's all said and done
being a difference either.

Well, you know they met on February fourth, that Byron
Center Bulldogs won by two. They played that game without
Bowling Green Segnee Cam Carroll, so Jayden Bowman was really
their only big He got in foul trouble. Tuesday night
they beat Northview Carroll in foul trouble. Several other Bulldogs
in foul trouble. Byron Center needs to stay out of
foul trouble tonight. As you mentioned this time of year,

benches are shortened. Bulldogs need their key guys on the
floor and then they need to play their game right
there quick.

They have the guards, they want to get out and run.
They want to shoot the three.

Is that Hudsonville style two Yes, but if you're Byron Center,
you gotta play your game all right. For Hudsonville, they
need to get Joe Bon Daniels going. I mean he's
their guy. Yes, he's a junior, but huge in their
win here over Rock from a February eleventh game we
called outstanding in this tournament run as well.

I mean this is a capacity crowd as you would
expect at a regional final, lots of Byron Center people here.
But Hudsonville's thirteen and one on their floor this year
only lost coming way back in early December at overtime.

First of all, point guard Isaac Lee, a senior nine
points per game to assist. He's going on to play
Division one football at Penn. Shooting guard is Kean Hankles, senior,
their leading scorer at sixteen points per game. He's a
lefty cut of your minds you of a true Knitzel
type player to assist forty four percent shooting from behind
the arc, seventy eight percent free throw shooter.

The guy I like, who's kind of the mister everything.
The glue guy can play defense, he can rebound his
cash spot.

Forward is Jaydon Boone, when the senior transfer beast Cat

as good, led by junior point guard Joe bon Daniels
averaging just under sixteen points per game, he can light

it up from behind the ArcLight Kinkle at forty five percent,
also an eighty percent free throw shooter.

Their shooting guard really found his stride.

According to coach Elliott, he's their glue guy in Griffin Baker,
they're starting quarterback on the football team. He's just a
winner and a senior leader. Then you've got small forward
Joey Miller. He's gonna play at Madonna University next year.
Twelve point three points per game, eighty percent free throw shooter.
The guy who's impressed this I think the most this
year has really come on as Justin Fisher.

Twelve points per game left, he can shoot it. He's
a big four rebounds.

And then Isaiah Hamlet, the transfer coming in eleven points
per game and four rebounds. You'll have a tough matchup
tonight with Cam Carroll. Each of these teams has got
a key transfer right. Hamlet's been huge for Hudsonville. Bowman
big for Byron Center. I find it an interesting.

Landon Conrad started most of the year for Byron Center,
but now it's been Bowman here in the postseason, starting
at the four for the Bulldog.

Cam Carroll wins the tap and they're visiting black uniforms,

I wondered how Joe Rodriguez would play this because Whitchers
was huge in that win the first time when they
were really small. Because Bowman got in foul trouble. He's
in early looking for a spark. There comes a double team.
Nice passed by Carrol the Whitchers down low. Great job
Whicher's on the backside, realizing his guy came to help
on the double team, got right to the basket. The
Cam Carroll an underrated passer for a big Well, yeah,

you say Cam Carroll's going D one because he's six nine. No,
Camp Carroll's going D one because he can play. Excellent
passer out of the post. Excellent job that time by
the big fellow finding Whitchers for an easy one.

and wise they just uses those broad shoulders against Whitchers,

Daniels can't finish the left hand, big rebound up high
Isaiah Hamlet. Oh, we almost threw it away. Hinkle knocked
away the outlet pass. So you love the chess match, right,
Eric Elliott switches it now. Daniels was on Lee and
it was Baker on Hinkle. But they got a switch
there with the high screen. Hinkle got to the bucket

halfway point lost going opening corner with good defense both ways,
high screen there, Miller trying to feed or trying to
free excuse me, Joe bon Daniels. Now hamlet straw him
down the lane, takes cam Carolyn finishes on the left
hand well sixt eight Isaiah Hamley, who could shoot it

the floor, get by the defender and get the layup.

Well, it just comes down to big time players and
both teams have them, right, I mean, both teams have
great senior players, you know, talking about Junior's Cashist Bonn
and Byron Sentaer, Javon Daniels on Hudsonville, But it was
a senior Cam Carroll. I thought he was just the
difference in this game. Defensively, he got an early foul.
We know he battles foul troubles sometimes did on Tuesday.

He never backed down. I thought he played great defensively,
He was great on the backboard. Offensively, he led everybody
with eighteen when they were down late. He had the
big bucket to put him ahead.

They will take on Flint Carmen Ainsworth who held on
against Marquett who had a late rally by six sixty

bowling green Sinee Cam Carroll eighteen points. He had seven
of those in the fourth quarter, eleven in the second half,
and he leads everybody.

They got eleven points from Easton Whitchers eight in the
first quarter and then he had a huge three in
the fourth quarter as well.

Kind of been a bench guy, limited minutes on Tuesday.

Against Northview, but he was great against Hudsonville in the
regular season when they won by two.

Great tonight when they win by three. Whitchers eleven points.
Kean Hinkel, their leading scorer averages sixteen, had ten in
the first half. He finishes the game with ten. Hudsonville
clearly was going to try to take him away. Eight
points tonight for Isaac Lee, but you cannot put a
number on his defense, which is once again outstanding. Two
points from Jaden Bowman and a free throw from Cash

Spot for fifty for Hudsonville. They were led by Joey Miller,
their Madonna Bounds senor. He had fourteen points to lead
the Eagles eleven in the first half. I thought Isaiah Hamlet,
the six to eight senior, was outstanding. He had twelve
points in the game, really good on defense as well,
nine points apiece from Javon Daniels and Justin Fisher, and
the Eagles got three from Griffin Baker forty seven points

all from their starting five. Of course, Whitchers supplying eleven
bench points for the Bulldogs.

Both were senior laden clubs coming in lots of talent,
and I thought the seniors on both sides really stepped
up in a heck of a basketball game tonight. Again,
congratulations to Eric Elliott and Hudsonville on a fantastic season.

They're going to end their year at nineteen and six overall.

They were eight and two and second place by rock
for the ok Red and the Bulldogs at Byron Sene.
They move on to the quarterfinals after the soccer team

They've got a young squad with coach Riddell, Hudsonville and
then Byron Center Northfield. But the Bulldogs come out on
top with the Division one Regional championship trophy. They earned
it tonight and again the final score in this one
fifty to forty seven.

How about the explosion of Byron Center boys athletics. You know,
I mean fifteen years ago they were Class B Division
two about five hundred to six hundred less students than
they currently have. The enrollment explodes, and boy, the sports
have just taken off. The hockey team wins the state
championship last year. Do people understand how rare it is
for a team on the west side of the state

to win a hockey state championship. It hadn't happened since
Catholic Central in like twenty eleven. When Byron Center does
it last year, you know, the soccer program has really
taken off.

They were in the state finals.

This year, the football team under Mark Cisco gets to
ford Field and now look what this boys basketball program
has done, winning a regional title, and now they're one
win away from reaching the Brezlent Center. It's never easy
in the state quarterfinal. They're gonna have a really good
Carbon Anthworth team to take on Tuesday Boy, but the
potential to double up and go ford Field and the
Breslent Center in the same school year, I'd.

I was talking to Brady Lake Tuesday night, the athletic
director Byron Sonny said, Man, just a great senior class,
good kids, good leadership for our lower levels. And how
about Joel Rodriguez too. You mentioned a jay in our pregame.
Thirty years since they'd won a district they do that.
Now they've won a regional championship, and you're right, what
a year to be a fan of the Orange and Black.
And I know my kids going to Byron Center. I've

always pulled for BC a little bit obviously pulled from
al malatter Rockford and Hudsonville and everything. It's just great
to see. But this one was a showcase of what
West Michigan High school sports is all about. The community, sport,
the fans, the student section. It had everything, and unfortunately
I have to have a winner and a loser. But
both these programs were proven why they were top ten programs.

makes that puts Byron Center ahead for good. I thought
he was clearly the best player on the floor tonight,
